In the search of a cozy summer scent, I would liked to try this perfume and I hated it... In my brain, it is nothing like a suncreen at all. It is just a cheap white solid 'Turkish bath' soap which I don't like either. Eww very nauseating and disappointing :(

ripgirl9000

This perfume is nostalgia in a bottle. It smells EXACTLY like 90s sunscreen and in the best way. I love it for that. It is a memory scent. I do not find myself actually using it often, because I rarely want to smell exactly like sunscreen. But it is delicious and brings me back to the beach days of my childhood every time I smell it so it is hard to let it go. I probably only wear it when I am heading to the beach! Because that is the positive headspace it puts you in.

Several years ago i snagged the vintage formula in the old cylinder bottle.

It definitely smelled immediately and powerfully nostalgic, however, even so, i was convinced the juice had gone off from age.

I am still to this day not sure if its gone off or if this is just exactly the way its supposed to smell.
One day maybe i will buy a newer bottle to solve this mystery.

First of all, the juice in this bottle is incredibly powerful, projects BIG, and its VERY long lasting. Dense. Which seems to go against the opinion of most reviewers.

I am wearing it this morning and its still projecting powerfully after washing dishes by hand, with bleach in the presoak, no less.

Maceration? I have no idea. But i am not exaggerating… i seriously cant get over its power. I wore it a few days ago and it kept chugging from morning til night!

Second, i wouldn't call this juice “pretty”.

It smells like heavy sunscreen, yes. But not very “flowery”

Yet, it has that same “fullness” and “density” i get from tropical white florals.

Its pleasant to wear despite my misgivings of it, because the scent cloud around me is really full and summery.

Maybe the sand notes in my vintage bottle have greatly intensified over years. Because what i smell is more than a bit salty, even smelling strongly of driftwood. Not salty like Womanity, mind you. This is a different kind of salt, and i am at a loss to describe it.

All the flowers are nearly buried under “driftwood”. They are there but they are not the most powerful part of this juice.

But still, whatever that special sunscreen note is, that aspect remains very strong. It definitely smells like some kind of sun care product from my youth in the 70s and 80s, 100%

To be honest, my bottle smells quite niche. Its fun and VERY different.

I am just not sure its altogether “on purpose” or if its due to the vintage age of my bottle and maceration.

Either way, i really enjoy this.

Its not my top favorite (my fav is Sand & Sable) for summer, but its pretty compelling.

Its the exact scent of my northern ca summer weekends laying out at the beach or the pool … in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Uncannily realistic.

90's copper tone vibes all the way. If you can get your hands on a bottle, I highly recommend for a nostalgic summer fragrance. Leans feminine. Fresh, clean, crisp, I definitely get a hit of neroli. The little sister of Tom Fords Neroli Portofino.

I have wanted to try Bobbi Brown Beach perfume for as long as I can remember, and the reason for this is: that I absolutely love the smell of fragrances that remind me of a hot summer day on the beach and in the sea. Bobbi Brown Beach perfume is a lovely, soft fragrance with notes of Jasmine, sea water, sand, and mandarin orange. When you first apply the perfume, it has a very strong and beautiful smell, and you can definitely smell the sea water and sand notes coming through. It almost reminds me of the Coppertone sunscreen we grew up with. However, after about +- 30 min, the perfume is fading, and you can smell a soft hint of Jasmine coming through. The longevity of this perfume is very moderate, and therefore I think for this reason, it is a bit of an expensive perfume, but hey, it's Bobbi Brown, and I think the price is also in the name. If you are like me, who loves the smell of sunscreen, then definitely try this perfume.

Wore this for my coastal wedding & it was just perfect. I always have a bottle on hand. Like wearing a fluffy hotel robe after a lux jasmine bath on the patio looking over the rocky crashing coast with the sun warming your back.
More of a coastal vibe than tropical which makes it a bit more versatile than coconut forward sunscreen scents. Not extremely long lasting or strong but I've grown to appreciate that.

halcyonatlantic

As a girlie who grew up in Florida going to the beach every weekend, oh my gosh!! My childhood! The initial spray is very sunscreen/bug spray scent and is so nostalgic. After it dries down, you can smell the subtle blossoms and sea salt of the ocean. It is absolutely perfect and one of my all time favorite perfumes. It also has pretty good lasting power on me. I can still smell it 5+ hours later. I live very far from the ocean now but this perfume always brings me back there.

Shimmer412

The perfect sun tan lotion only better fragrance… more chic and classy! Definitely gives off major beach vibes and a lovely nostalgic feeling! Conjures up feelings of the Sun on my skin, my feet in the sand, and long walks along a beautiful, white sand, tropical beach with my feet in the water!

I had no idea they even made fragrances like this back when I first bought this (maybe 2012ish) and I was thrilled! I’ve been wearing this ever since and even got the body wash, body scrub, and body lotion! I keep this in regular rotation during the warmer months with my favorites of other similar fragrances… Tom Ford Soleil Blanc, Replica Beach Walk, Nest Sunkissed Hibiscus, Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess, JHAG Lust For Sun, and JHAG Vanilla Vibes!

I get great performance with Beach… excellent longevity (I can still smell it on me the next morning!) and silage!

sem413

This is sunscreen in a bottle. No, not suntan oil or a beach vacation, with coconut and yellow florals—straight up SPF 50 sunscreen that you put on your face everyday.

If you want to smell like sunscreen (which I do because I love that comforting chemical scent), then buy this. If you don't, stick with Beach Walk, Nina Soleil, Lust for Sun, or Soleil Blanc.

I was in Florida (not my favorite) place but I happened to come across "Beach" in a dept store- spayed it on and immediately fell in love with it. It instantly conjoured up the beach, summer, sunning, beautiful places, warmth, flowers (and some Florida sense of place). I unfortunately didn't have the budget to buy it but didn't forget it. At Christmastime, lo and behold, Bobbi Brown was offering a "Beach" special and I gifted myself a bottle. It is now a waning summer but I wore it from June to August. I love it!

BerryRose

This is such a great find. A cheap and cheerful, "does what it says on the tin" fragrance. It's in the wheelhouse of other beach-themed summer fragrances (Bronze Goddess, Coccobello, Nuxe Sun, Jil Sander Sun, Replica: Beach Walk, The Body Shop Coconut) although the aquatic note is obviously synthetic, as a whole this fragrance feels more naturalistic than the aforementioned fragrances. It's lighter on the powdery and coconut notes, and instead leans into the freshness of the aquatic and mineral notes. The bottle is lovely too, simple clean lines with a nice weight to it. For the price you can do a lot worse.

MilaiaFoxe

Luxury Suntan lotion, for what would you want to smell like this? I don’t know, my skin doesn’t require sunblock, rendering this one useless for me. I received compliments on it but i myself don’t like it.

ash.edmundson

If you love that beachy nostalgic vibe but wish it were more elevated, classy, and clean, then this is the fragrance. I keep the roll-on in my bag whenever I'm travelling somewhere hot. It makes me feel happy whenever I smell it, and it's subtle enough that it feels like it's more for you than anyone else.

Dory Cubana

BB Beach reminds me of Ambre Solaire suntan lotion from the 70s & 80s. I grew up in then Yugoslavia (today Croatia) and this reminds me, too, of endless summer days of splashing, swimming in the Mediterranean, sitting on the stone slabs under pine trees. Stone warm from the sun, watching the sea water drops drying so fast on the hot stones.
The Coppertone was imported in YU in the 80s, so I am familiar with the smell. But we only got one variety of Coppertone and that one was heavy on the coconut, quite similar to today’s Hawaiian tropic suntan lotion smell, not like the one you all mention in your reviews. We had Ambre Solaire, a French brand, and it is the same exact smell, vintage chemical suntan lotion of the late 70s.
BB Beach is basically cheaper Fire Island by Bond No.9. It’s less complex and more linear but still the smell of retro suntan lotion. To get the flashback feeling of long gone summer vacations, no need to pay 300+ US$ for Bond.
BB Beach is currently priced at 80 US$ and will do just fine.
I am also familiar with TF Soleil Blanc edp. Not a fan of the brand, but did fall for the hype around SV and Soleil Blanc has just a hint of coconut to make it more modern and thus a more appealing beach frag. Overpriced, too, IMHO.
My favourite beach smell of all times was Azuree Soleil by TF for EL. Was, because it is discontinued. The direct descendant is EL’s Bronze Goddess, but EL vary the formula from one season to the other, thus going further and further away from my Holy Grail of beach frags.
BB Beach is perfect for what it does, so enjoy while it lasts. The company already discontinued the oil, the travel rollerball and the rest of the line, so what’s it to be other than “discontinued” sign…
All true love is sad, right?

nostrilsattached

I only pick up on orange blossom (maybe neroli and bergamot, a very similar citrus facet to Guerlain's Nerolia Vetiver), a light sugar-like delicate sweetness, white flowers, a strong solar-ozonic "gassy" quality, plus a very light hint of pharmachemical acridity. I just bought a sealed bottle and I've topped up with a few sprays every once in a while after the first application. Not detecting any jasmine, sea notes, or anything remotely sand-like. Was outdoors and indoors. No change.

joy3141

I think this may be my longest perfume love. Others come and go but this has always been steady. I remember having a sample with me at a music festival in 2007. I used it all up of course and later purchased this in a tall round glass bottle. Memories of a wonderful time in my life. I’ve gone through a few bottles - a testament to my love. It smells of Coppertone and sea and flowers. I still reach for it more than Sur La Plage or Soleil Blanc. I will always love this.

luanneog

Recently blind bought this one trusting other's reviews and it did not disappoint. This is truly Coppertone sunscreen in a bottle, wish I adore. I grew up 5 minutes away from the beach. Going for a swim, snorkeling was a usual activity within my family. The smell initially took me back to those days when I wanted to run off to have fun but my mother would hold me back and apply sunscreen to avoid having me getting a sunburn. It's bright, uplifting and nostalgic. It's creamy and beachy withouth being sweet, fruity or coconutty. Initially the smell was a bit more floral and somewhat plasticky. Whenever I sniff this I'm flooded with memories and feel a tad happier.

Leeben1993

I blind bought it scared after reading these comments😂
Personally I'm a fan of this, it give me nostalgic vibes to the 90's which was my childhood.
Totally a sun screen applied at the beach with the salty breeze in the background.
Layer it with TF Soleil Blanc (I prefer the edt) and thank me later 😉

ArunaMoonChild

Maybe I don't actually know what sunscreen smells like because if this is it, Why? Why would I want to smell like this? It smells like bug spray, flowers, sweat, and DEET. Not a safe blind buy. Fortunately I can return it, and I plan to do so as soon as possible. Heavy on the floral, very synthetic, strong. I sprayed one spritz on my wrist and after an hour it settled some, but the essence is still there. I followed influencer saying this is a perfect summer beach scent and for ME it's a complete NO.

colleen_like_jolene

Not a safe blind buy. I saw this for $40 at TJ MAXX and applied a few sprays. I was so sure I’d love it, but it’s a one note perfume and that one note is annoying after a few minutes. It’s old school coppertone, that one all the old ladies and babies wear. Nothing fun or beachy. Why the perfumer didn’t go for THE Hawaiian Tropic oil scent, I have no idea. I did try Vacation and it’s not Hawaiian Tropic, either, but maybe the Walmart version of it. My search for the best beach scent continues.

Susjd

This is straight SUNSCREEN; It is linear and one-note. No embellishments, no development, no accompanying scents. It is fairly strong, and as it is linear, becomes screechy after a while. For me it was annoying from the first spray. My absolute favorites in this genre are Tom Ford Soleil Blanc (BOTH the edt & edp. They are different.), Replica Beach Walk and Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess. And a new acquisition in the genre is Vacation by Vacation. It's a fabulous mix of tropical & slight sunscreen, and out of all the aforementioned favs it has the strongest coconut scent. I often interchange all of these, wearing one on each arm, as they all compliment each other in my opinion. (with the exception of BB Beach, too bad, so sad). The others are absolute winners!

Note: On saying "interchange", I didn't mean the favs were interchangeable. They are all divinely different, but they compliment or enhance each other in that glorious summer-scent universe!

PolynesianPrincess

Bought it and returned it! Awful! The "sunscreen" smell description is very accurate, BUT it is NOT the yummy coconut or banana sunscreen smell -- it is literally the exact cheap chemical smelling sunscreen smell from the 1970's... I was literally nauseas when I sprayed it on me... If you like chemical sunscreen from the 1970's smell, then this is the fragrance for you....

amg7613

The most photorealistic fragrance I own! I found this for a steal at TJ Maxx and I am loving it. A bright, sunny day at the beach with the wind blowing, salt water lapping at the shore, and sunscreen.

Harley522

Cool sea breeze with night jasmine. Summertime in Los Angeles. The Beach movie with Leonardo DiCaprio vibe. That underwater kissing scene with glowing plankton .
Really captivating perfume.

This smells like: Sunscreen on skin, beautiful sunny day on a caribbean beach surrounded by flowers. Absolutely stunning and a must have for a clean classic summer girl/gay/they/all

HannahRosesAreRed

Have you gone on a beach vacation? Perhaps you stayed at a hotel or motel, maybe rented a house in the area? Imagine you do that–you check in, unpack your bags, and take in the scent of this clean space you just rented–there's a distinct floral jasmine smell, soapy, aldehydic, yet oddly clean and innocent, permeating this rented space. Night rolls in, and it's a warm summer evening. The distinct fragrance of ozone and sand wafting in from the nearby ocean. You can hear the waves crash and you drift to sleep.

Morning comes, and you start your day taking in the clean smell of the place you're staying at, then proceed to slather on the sunscreen–specifically Coppertone Water Babies, from the pink bottle. You step outside, onto the boardwalk, with its outdoor restaurants and bathrooms with concrete floors, sand everywhere. The scent of the ocean is strong. The soft serve ice cream vendor gives you an orange sherbet cone. You go to the boardwalk amusement park. You spend the day at the beach, then take a quick dip in the pool. That soapy floral smell from your hotel/house has followed you here, intermingled with the scent of orange, the aldehydic pool chlorine, the sea breeze and the Coppertone lotion that fused into your skin.

Combine all this, and you get Bobbi Brown "Beach." This scent is near and dear to me as it completely captures specific scents and experiences of my Eastern Shore childhood. It's a wonderful scent to spray just out of the shower (or ocean, pool, and so on), or to brighten you mood in the dead of winter. It also smells fabulous on linens to give that "just checked into my hotel" vibe. I would hesitate to call this a sunscreen scent, though it bears resemblance to Coppertone specifically, and it's certainly not tropical–but it's a good example that a perfume doesn't have to rely on coconut to evoke the beach.

ingrid.superstar

Beach. The idea of this fragrance has haunted me since I first read about it years ago. Finally, I tried it. Using the review below me as a jumping-off point, in the initial blast this does indeed have a "public washroom" smell -- a sort of harsh, chemical, cherry/almondy/sweet-spicy odor plus acrylic white florals, not unlike the first whiffs of freshly applied sunscreen, especially the spray kind, as I think someone else mentioned. I'm sure the functional fragrance folks that make restroom air fresheners are well aware of the Coppertone formula. But further, if this is a sort of "virtual reality beach day" fragrance, that humid, heavily-perfumed restroom with perpetually wet, sandy concrete floors is part of it, no? Where I differ from the other reviewer is that I like this opening quality of the fragrance. Somehow the slathered-on chemical quality used to cover up the scents of Mother Nature feels very American, very 50s or 60s. There is a sharp citrus, bordering on a citronella-like accord that calms down in the first five minutes, if not sooner.

Beach then quickly becomes a soapy, buttery orange blossom and jasmine fragrance with the jasmine coming off far less sweet than it often does in "beachy" fragrances. A green tuberose comes and goes, as if carried intermittently by a random breeze. The fatty, waxy qualities of these white flowers seems to me to be particularly emphasized. At some point "Beach" becomes "Pool," as I detect a chlorine note -- sweetly chemical and ozonic, atmospherically familiar as most deep childhood memories are. Paradoxically airy and musky, yet weighed down with yet more thick, chemical overtones. As it develops further, the florals fade, there is a greenish, mineral note, like a wet banana leaf dusted with sand. I really get the sandy, pebble-like quality in the dry-down. Short-lived overall, but interesting and impressive.

This fragrance is kitschy, poetic, and apparently close to a lot of people's hearts. Though I don't have a deep emotional connection to it, I was definitely seeking something more than just a fragrance in it, trying so many "sunscreen" fragrances in an attempt to beat winter blues in Indiana. I'd call Beach unique in the larger world of "beachy" fragrances for not being chock-full of coconut and/or frangipani; but overall, to me this is a bottled functional fragrance -- impressive for its resemblance to sunscreen, but not a perfume as such.

For reference, a gloss on some other sunscreen fragrances:
- Child Perfume by Susan D. Owens -- my favorite so far for its gentle, abundant floralcy. Realistic, breathy jasmine and a touch of lilac. A rich oil, though it doesn't last very long, sadly.
- Jennifer Aniston perfume -- allegedly a copy of Beach, but scrubbed clean of any harsh chemical notes. Soapy, polite jasmine that lasts about ten minutes. Still very pretty and affordable, but says more "clean indoors" than "beach."
- Kuumba Made Pikake Lei -- Poor performance, too. A candied, softly indolic, jasmine dryer sheet. Still a nice pick-me-up.
- TBH I don't get the comparison to MMM Beach Walk at all -- to me that is all coconut, ylang, and vanilla, none of which are in Beach.

MaisonTess

Has the same public washroom smell that Prada Candy has. Was expecting coppertone and it just smells like an old almondy air freshener from a dollar store

Beacon631

This is my favorite Summer fragrance. I have lived a 10-20 minute car ride to the beach all of my life and this scent transforms me there immediately. It conjures visions of warm sands, suntan lotion, ocean waves and driftwood. If I close my eyes I am there. Love.

Mez0Nez

A sharp green (honeysuckle) scent.

viewdemonde

This is a GREAT scent! It really is very, very reminiscent of the beach. I 💞 it. My bottle is empty. Note to self: must get more!

isrsat

This is a sunscreen scent. Like a more unisex version of Hibiscus Palm. Lasted about four hours on me and faded into an aquatic slightly creamy scent (I really thought there was coconut in here??) But for most of the duration it was white florals and sunscreen.

Forbiddenjade

This is gorgeous in oil form! Lasts longer and it's a perfect replica of the Coppertone old formula.
I am in heaven!!!! On a beach, my 4 years old self running wild on the shore, with my wolf dog chasing me and barking and circling me. My mother chases us both with my hat, and when she catches up there's the bottle of this milky thick thing that smells so good, but bothers me as it's kinda oily.

I feel I'm wearing a diving suit when she covers me with it. But the scent coming from it makes me happy, so I give in and then enjoy the flowery whiff. My mother laughs at my ghostly face, the thick cream making me as white as a sheet so much that I almost glow among all tanned others.

I'm under the scorcing sun, making sand castles, the sea waves lapping at my feet ... and this thing smells so good.

In drydown the oil exudes a light sand scent, yes, with a tad of plasticky backing. I love it!

PS: my search for the perfect beach scent has finally come to a happy end.

GinCatsBooks

Beach is quite literally that; the beach. Well, more specifically its the scent of SPF 50 and sea air, but as a pale redhead which burns even on overcast days (there is a reason why I either stay inside or wear flowy linen shirts all summer long), this is how a day on the coast smells to me.

I bought Beach after waiting ages for it to come back into stock, I was curious more than anything about the sand note, if anything, I was expecting something aquatic with a sun parched, briney stones or shells type of note along the lines of Dune, but nope!
Beach is, from start to finish the scent of sun block, nothing coconutty or sticky, and you know what? it makes me feel GOOD!! it reminds me of getting up early to head to the Westerly part of Wales to the beach and enjoying the humid yet fresh sea air,

Longevity I personally find excellent at around 7hrs from 3 spritzes with an airy light silage. Beach will always have a place in my wardrobe, its a key part of my olfactive summer memories past, present and undoubtedly future, I've never found anything else that smells like this does. The only negative I have is that its only available online directly from Bobbi Brown's website and I wish there were some other Beach scented products (and a reintroduction of the body oil would be nice, that sounds like it was divine!) to go alongside the EdP, and, because of its sea faring nature and me being landlocked 90% of the time, it almost feels a bit wrong or naughty to wear it!

I was lucky to find a rollerball very cheap at a thrift store, and it really does timewarp me to the happiest parts of my childhood summers. I can see why people would be disappointed, as it is fairly basic and doesn't project much for the retail price. I'm getting benzoin, although it isn't listed in the notes, and the jasmine is very light and clean. The sand and salt is dry and almost breezy. It has to be the exact recipe for Coppertone's fragrance. Drydown is a close sunkissed skin scent, and even that brings back other memories - driving home, hair still wet, sitting on a towel in the backseat after swimming all day. Sad that from open to close it's such a short ride at maybe 30 minutes.
We're on day 5 of a heatwave here so this has been nice to wear in the city, day and night. If you're looking for a complex and artfully crafted summer perfume that evokes a possible far-off suntan lotion that you can't place, Sun Di Gioia is an absolute stunner. If you just want that feeling of warm nostalgia, Beach will bring it, but, just like summer, it doesn't last long.

Adriall Rose

I spray this perfume and I’m immediately at the end of the yearly family 16 hour car ride to Myrtle Beach, SC. We’ve finally made it to the pier where I can get cookies and cream icecream and eat it as I kick up sand on the beach. My mom is demanding I put on copper tone sunscreen or I’ll burn in the hot sun.

I get nothing more from this than generic copper tone but it’s just a comforting scent memory like nothing else in the world. I have a roller ball on me pretty often, just for the summer.

Funny story—one day a runner went by me on the street, sweating up a storm and wiping sunscreen out of her eyes. I said to my boyfriend, “ah, she’s wearing Beach by Bobbi Brown.” He looked at me like an absolute loon

Bluerabbit

Wow. They weren’t kidding, reviewers who called this “coppertone sunscreen”. I’ve worn this all day, and there is hardly any florals I can sense. It’s just a constant HELLO IM WEARING SUNSCREEN smell. I did want some sunscreen hints in my summer fragrance this year but this… it’s just lacking the complexity that I’d need in order to justify buying a whole perfume bottle vs … $4 coppertone sunscreen.
Maybe I’m sensitive to the smell? Coppertone always ran into my eyes and made them burn as a child at the pool. Hadn’t thought about that until today. Thanks Bobbi 😆

2whit2quit

Wore this to the beach for 4th of July, and it hit just right. Pure summertime nostalgia!

Bond No.9 Fire Island:Bobbi Brown Beach Comparison

Chandler Burr famously described BBB as an olfactory replica of the Coppertone scent. Fresh and spritely, dominant jasmine and mandarin orange. This fragrance brings back all the feels. Memories of carefree childhood parties held poolside. Mum holding me down and applying a thick layer of sunscreen to my shoulders, preaching to deaf ears the importance of waiting twenty minutes before swimming. No amount of sense could keep me out of that water.

Now imagine you are with me in that memory, and hours later you emerge from the pool, waterlogged and a bit burnt, and her arms wrap you in the warmest, fluffiest towel fresh from the dryer. That is the experience of Fire Island. A white flower and neroli core reminiscent of BBB, but diluted and cloaked in cozy, powdery cardamom. The happy end of a day spent swimming, when everything is right with the world.

Burns

If this fragrance seems polarizing, it’s because for most of those who love it, it’s a nostalgic scent. For those of us who were doused in a particular brand and scent of sunscreen as kids, and who have positive associations with those memories, this scent is as good as a time machine. For those who never shared this experience, this may be why you’re mystified as to why this smells like the beach.

Speaking for myself, I was born in the early 80s and grew up going to Nantasket Beach in Massachusetts every summer. This is the scent of the sunscreen my mother would aggressively slather all over me, including my face, and that would sting my eyes when I sweat. I hated the sunscreen ritual but I loved those summers. This is a photorealistic representation of that sunscreen, which others have identified as Coppertone. I could be wrong but believe it was the Water Babies line, the one with the dog pulling off the little girl’s bathing suit on the label? To me, this smells like a sandy bathing suit in 1991, in the best of ways.

Melly88

Based off of reviews, I thought this was going to end my search for a new signature summer scent, and I was surprisingly disappointed. This fragrance is everything I was not really expecting from the name “BEACH”; it’s floral heavy and for some reason, I smell a hint of powder. I do get the “sunscreen” smell, but only whiffs of it in the dry down, which is a disappointment because I purchased this fragrance solely based on that aspect. It’s very sharp and heavy when first applied, then dries down to a skinscent within the hour. I wish I loved this, but it’s just not for me.

petgrief

My naturally beautiful, minimalist mother has loved this scent since it came out and wears it as her warm weather signature. It’s a fragrance that makes me smile to be around and will always make me think of her.

That nostalgic, old school sunscreen note is honestly what makes this perfume and you’ve got to love it to find it enjoyable but I also find it slightly more complex than that. It leans a little floral, a little aquatic, a little citrus and the blend of notes is lovely. This is a “beachy” fragrance done right.

Frenchess

I blind bought this based off the reviews. I was really hoping for that retro sunscreen smell, but all I got was a Coppertone Sport Continuous Spray Sunscreen scent. If that’s what you’re after, you’ll love it! But it’s a no for me.

annema

This is the beach/summer perfume I always wanted but never found, until recently. Yeah, all other comments are saying the same, it smells like a retro sunscreen. I'm a kid from the 90's but I remember that smell. It smells like my days on the border of a lake or a rocky beach. I sprayed myself before exercising the other day and the sea water and sand smells became more prominent. I guess these scents develop much more in the heat...On first spray you smell the Jasmine but then it becomes more "beachy". I also like the minimalist practical bottle. Bobbi Brown stayed true to its genre.

herculano

Ahhhhh…
Here it is.

A true old fashioned (for us over 40) sunscreen vacation scent.

HOW FUN!

This is a GREAT perfume!
Jasmine, seawater, sand, neroli.

But really… it’s the COPPERTONE scent!

The smell of suntan oil and/or sunscreen from the 60s all the way through the 90s!

This is the summers of my childhood here in California ALL THE WAY.

My longtime boyfriend, 53, who grew up in Santa Cruz and vacationed every summer in Hawaii as he was growing up….is going to LOVE this on me.

He and I go swimming every summer, sometimes at our favorite B & B and sometimes at this fun (very wild, and “unofficial”) river spot.
The river is my favorite place to swim because it’s very deep, with rocks to jump off of. It reminds me of teenage wild fun in the 70s in California (I wasn’t a teen then, I was little, but my siblings were, and they were pretty wild). It basically reminds me of the vibe in those old Mountain Dew commercials.

Summer fun!

This is going to be my river fragrance, and maybe also my Hawaii fragrance.

You can easily layer this with coconut (I tried it with the surf wax fragrance oil “pirette”) and it will fit right into this…nostalgia and all.

But it’s also perfect just as it is!

I wish I knew about this one sooner. It’s absolutely pitch perfect for me.

VelmaT

I have the rollerball of this. Yes, sunscreen, definitely, but also white flowers, including gardenia. To my nose, the drydown is heavy on orange blossom (which I consider a plus.) Also occasionally reminds me slightly of kids soap bubbles. The review preceding mine mentioned European cold cream and that feels right to me. It's light, happy, perhaps old-fashioned, and for me, nostalgic.

brumbarche

For summer you say? Not only!
I was expecting sweet vanillin and dense tuberose, or something lighter with the same idea (like musky and sweet EL Bronze Goddes) but instead I find this to be very close to Amouage Ashore with some similarities with Bond 9 Fire Island, and not so much like МММR Beach Walk, which has too much “swimming pool” water in it. It’s the beautiful floral and feminine aspects of Amouage with the creamy base of Bond 9, but none of its unisex musk or tuberose, although you get heady white florals. It smells like luxurious floral oil. Do not try and like it from smelling it from up clos, though. It’s somehow an open space perfume and intended to create this creamy white floral aura with very few notes, than have you dissect its "complexity" by burying your nose in it. If I’m to use cosmetics associations, in Europe we don’t associate this scent with sunscreen, but more like ...with "cold cream" / luxurious makeup remover. Smells like the fancy face cream you mom wore, or clean fresh linens but no grandma “clean” aldehydes - only white flowers with the stems, like clean heady (not indolic) jasmine and maybe a bit of gardenia or waxy lilies stirred in ... there’s is creamy density - the way tuberose can be, but no added sweetness whatsoever (Bronze Goddess has added sweetness that feels more of a sultry summer, instead of the humid spring garden we have with Bobbi Brown Beach).
One spray in the air, you go through the mist, and you are good to go and dive into the crisp sunny morning air. You’ll smell groomed and clean, like covered in beautiful white floral petals. This is for people who don’t take too well toothrotting sweetness in the air when the weather starts to get better and when about to start their day. Some people want something different than the sugarbombs of today and would also appreciate a minimalist bottle to comfortably take along. This is not for a blind buy, but if you enjoy Amouage Ashore, Bond 9 Fire Island, Jo Malone Vintage Gardenia (yes, they are reissuing it!!) etc… you’ll find Beach right up your alley.

Zethre

Very pretty, clean fresh floral. Not what I was expecting from something called Beach, to me that should be more coconut, hot sand, hot skin, (so Bronze Goddess essentially) this is more like a quiet windswept beach on a cool day with sun peaking out from the clouds. Refreshing, but you're not tempted to take your coat off.
Vaguely reminds me of some of Van Cleef and Arpels florals

abbyallison

Reminds me of the Hotel del Coronado. Smells like beautiful beach, luxury hotel and sunscreen.

Faintly reminded me of Beach Walk, but more sunscreen/floral and less sandy.

lovethatsmellalot

This smells like sunscreen (ala Coppertone, not Hawaiian Tropics) and the beach, with moderate staying power. Good if more feminine than others of the same ilk.

Note to self: you like this one but are on the fence about buying a bottle. Maybe if you found a really good deal. Great for smelling!

Anamandy

Wow, I really like this. It really lives up to its name. It is a true beachy scent, though not necessarily just a Coppertone scent. The sunscreen note is not the focal point here. The beach is. It's the beach mixed with sun, sand, sunscreen and jasmine flowers - lots and lots of jasmine flowers. A light, clean, sweet, airy jasmine that's soft and pretty. It goes really well with the sunscreen, sand, and salt notes.
What I really like about this though, and contrary to so many other fragrances with a salt note, is that it is not overwhelmingly salty but just enough where it smells like the scent of the sea in the air. It's perfect. What isn't perfect is the performance. Within 2 hours it was a skin scent on me. I am hoping that this is just a case of a perfume needing warmer weather to perform better. Hopefully, it will live up to my optimistic expectations next summer.

violetstorm

for once the name of a perfume actually matched what it smelled like lol..............this scent is AMAAAAZING !!! its exactly what i was hoping for :) this is a gem of a scent !!! i dont know how bobbi brown did it lol but it magically reminds me of when i was a kid or teenager going to the beach :) it has the essence of that delicious sunscreen u use to wear when u were younger - ok dont worry it doesnt smell like sunscreen lol but it has this delicious subtle sunscreen vibe but in a perfume way if that makes sense lol.................and the jasmine is so divine in this scent - on me the jasmine is a standout & lingers ever so softly.............this is a def "all around" "easy to wear" "for everyone & any ocassion" type of scent.............love it !!!!

vlrtualboy

This is what I've been SEARCHING FOR!! After running the gamut of "sunscreen" fragrances (Vacation, Margiela Beach Walk, more) *this* is the straight-up Coppertone, public pool fantasy. And to make things even better, it actually LASTS! Sits on the skin so nicely, takes me out of the office and to a waterpark all day long. I will say that it plays the sunscreen smell the most faithfully of any of the others I've tried-- only a very vague "spa" vibe on drydown. Graciously not overpowering or headache inducing, so amazing. I will be wearing this year-round just to be annoying, but it's definitely a summer day fragrance. Undefeated champ of the sunscreen scents in my eyes!

Alexandra.kom

on every woman i smelled this perfume , it smells like sand and sunscreen in the best possible way!!

on my skin on the other hand all i smell is bergamont not even mandarin as the notes state.
I love smelling it on others but doesnt sit well on my skin , unfortunatelly.

Jessie292

I bought this thinking I would smell like sunscreen which is a scent I really love. Although it does smell like copertone, it was missing the fake coconut sweet scent on top of it I was looking for. I don't know if that makes sense but I find it dry. The same kind of dryness a white wine has. However, I use a coconut body mist which I layer with beach and it's now perfect. The sillage and longevity are very weak. Lasts about 30 minutes on me

MsFCAS

This is a great summer vacation scent, and that’s what it smells like. Suntan lotion from the 1970s/80s. Flip flops. Sunburned noses. An orange soda from the beach stand. Toes in the sand. A dip in the ocean.

cheleine

Okay hear me out:
This doesn’t smell like the beach, this smells like going to the beach.
More specifically, as I’ve seen other people mention: european sunscreen. I’m from Europe and I can say with my eyes closed that this is IT! Exactly!
I’ve smelled other perfumes trying to mimic that exact scent but with poor results. Yes, after seeing the notes pyramid I can KIND OF smell the jasmine, the sand and sea notes but it doesn’t matter: this is pure european sunscreen from the 90’s forward.
That being said, this is not suitable for summer nights and generally formal situations. This is a beach scent (as the name suggests) and a casual summer morning kind of scent. If this is your vibe this summer, go for it!
If not, you can skip this.

FragranticaReader

It smells like late afternoon, coming home from the beach when I was a little girl. Amazingly evocative scent memory for me. Takes me right back there, to the point it can utterly change my mood and my perspective. Great for anyone with a beachy childhood.

Fleurissima

Wow! Just wow!
I was reading one of the reviews below that said it smelled like suntan lotion, which I have been searching for ages, but most failed to grasp that 90’s European suntan lotion scent. If you know, you know.
But I am in love!!!
I can’t believe it took me this many years to give this one a chance, and I’m so glad I finally found what I had been looking for!
If you want to literally smell like “the beach”, look no further! This is IT! 🙌🏼💗

sibaraa

The orange blossom is very harsh in this. Leaning masculine.

carotomorrow

I don’t get the hate when almost every reviews of this perfume say it smells like a good old fashioned sunscreen. If you don’t want to smell like sunscreen just don’t buy it. It’s not your typical coconut beachy perfume because well there’s none in it. It really smells like coppertone but I would say it’s the soft touch of jasmine that really makes it wearable. I put it on when I need my day to feel brighter and it works every time.

CaraQ

This is what I would consider one of the BEST beachy summer fragrances out there!

Most importantly, (to me, clearly) is THERE'S NO COCONUT. *gag* I'm not a fan of any kind of coconut note in my perfumes. And, with most beachy scents, it's right there. BUT, NOT HERE!

Ok, so here's the thing: it doesn't smell just like you stuffed a beach in a bottle and sprayed yourself with it. Sorry. But, it's rather someone's interpretation of a beach, and it's pretty close.

This is a lovely scent, screams summer, sunshine, waves, bikinis and summer wraps. Will I buy it again. Yes, most definitely!

Also, goes extraordinarily well with B&BW Beach Cabana hand soap, which I hope they'll turn into its own complete line come summer 2021.

LackawannaOakie

OK. QUESTION.
I’m an older guy. Old enough to remember when the cool go-to sunscreen was in a green plastic container with an orange cap. It was “Sea ‘n Ski,” and it smelled great. Then it disappeared and Coppertone cloned the fragrance. I was at a friends house and used Beach liquid soap and it was Sea ‘n Ski reborn. I went shopping for Beach fragrances and discovered you either couldn’t find them or they were many doubloons. Why? Why? I wondered. How did ol’ Sea ‘n Ski achieve the same fragrance in drug store item?
So, help me. There has to be “Beach” ringer out there for cheap.

Gildedlilly

I worked for the Bobbi Brown line in my early 20's as a makeup artist and discovered Beach. I couldn't afford it back then and would just slather myself in Coppertone as a dupe. I haven't had a signature scent since Mariel by H20 was discontinued years ago, but I suppose Beach is now it. *plot twist* I am currently on the prowl for a new signature scent. Beach has absolutely zero staying power. In order to actually enjoy it you must spray profusely all day, and after that spray 10x more. You still won't pickup anything by bedtime. Honestly, Coppertone sport lasts longer and gives my skin an LA sheen. At $6.99 a pop I look and smell like the beach all day.

bourcet

So you know you've gone full crazy when you're on eBay buying opened, half used bottles of Bobbi Brown Beach body oil for over $200 since Ms. Brown discontinued the rest of this line. Disclaimer so we can get this out of the way: I LOVE this scent. And I'll get to why in a minute.

But what the actual heck for only keeping the EDP as the only Beach offering? What Beach has in personality it absolutely lacks in longevity. I actually owned the oil and loved layering it under the EDP, but I lost the oil during my last move and now the only bottle of it you can buy is half full and going for 7x its original price. Great.

Anyway, this scent is the goddamn best and if you disagree, you hate freedom. Yes, this is 100% old ass Coppertone but that's the damn point. When you smell Coppertone, don't you just think freedom? Aren't you just overcome with joy? Unless you have some negative association with the beach, this scent is all about happiness. About summer. Friends. Freedom. Flirtation. Sun. ALL OF THESE THINGS ARE HAPPY, FUN AND FREE.

So why the frick can you not purchase the requisite lotions and oils necessary to keep a good thing, this fragrance, going? Cause without backup this scent lasts maybe an hour. If that. Make sure you get that rollerball to bring with you, because unlike sunscreen, this don't last 80 minutes before toweling off. You're gonna need to be reapplying this bitch a lot more than Coppertone.

LawmaLlama

Ick. This is like 1970s-1980s chemical smelling coppertone. Like the smell you get after a really long, uber hot day on the beach, and you stink, you are sweaty, sticky, and you want to shower the second you return to your rental shack of a beachhouse. You are placing dibs on the shower and running to beat your family there. I get zero floral from this, but alot of salt. Not good salt, but sweaty body odor salt mixed with chemical sunscreen. Big mistake on my part for blind buying it on sale. I can't even stand to sniff the sprayer, it is so chokingly bad. I don't know why anyone would want to smell like this. Returning this purchase.

Eviehatz

"Beach" by Bobby Brown is the ultimate summer perfume. The scent is a mix of coppertone sunscreen combined with the smell of the sea itself. I can literally feel like I just stepped out of the water and I am all covered up in sand. White floral base notes make the perfume even more fresh powdery and simply irresistible!!!! 🌊🐬🐚

mollypop

If you reach for Coppertone over Hawaiian Tropic or any other suntan oil/sunscreen, this one is for you.

lena.tselika

Coppertone with a hint of Autan
But I love it, I used to smell like this as a child!!!!

Aland2020

I think this smells exactly like what most people are looking for when they long for the fond memories of walking on a sandy beach shore, the ocean waves lapping around their feet, the whiffs of suntan lotion on hundreds of people floating around the air. Then the wonderful feeling of drying off and taking a nice long shower, putting on a fluffy white robe and staying in a hotel room that is about 20 degrees cooler than you can afford to blast your AC at home. Or maybe by most people I mean just me. These are my fond memories of beach trips that I so rarely get to take due to being such a long distance from the coast. It's well worth the 10 hour drive a couple times a year for a day like this. And when I can't afford to, or I just don't have the time, or there's an unforeseeable worldwide health crisis going on that limits my travel capabilities, Bobbi Brown Beach can fill that void.

labonvie

I love this. It is straight up Coppertone with a hint of salt air. I’m never more relaxed than when I’m at the beach. Since I currently live 600 miles from the ocean, this is the closest thing I can get. For me it evokes summers at Jones Beach circa 1984. It is utterly transporting. I spray it on and I’m instantly relaxed. Unfortunately, the longevity is not great. I’m hoping Bond 9 Fire Island is just as good and lasts longer (It is!).

BTW....this has decent longevity in winter, 6-8 hours.

Austrian_in_Denmark

When I started getting really interested in perfume, I had a roll-on of Beach. I used it up without taking a decant, and now I regret. This was beautiful, even though sillage and longevity were only poor to medium.

The scent was unfamiliar to me, because the coppertone lotion many people comment on was not a staple in Austria and Germany during my childhood.

It would be hard to analyse Beach. It was salty, flowery, slightly fruity. Tropical, but I could not tell you why. Hm, I guess I am not a big help here. But I can tell you to be smarter than I was and take decants of all your fragrances!

gin42

I love tropical scents, and this one doesn’t disappoint! It smells like sunscreen when first applied, but upon dry down is when you start to smell the floral deliciousness. Gardenia, jasmine...there is a bouquet of beautiful notes in there. I have gotten many compliments when I wear this. I love Bath and Body Works summer scents, and I can layer this with any of their tropical body sprays. I’m a sucker for any and all beachy scents (also love Victoria’s Secret Bombshell Summer and Victoria’s Secret Very Sexy Now Beach), none of them come close to this though. Long lasting, good sillage, and ultra elegant.

Delphi001

Don't judge me! But I mixed this lovely Bobbi Brown Beach scent with my Escada Cherry in the Air and... well let's just say it's a fan favorite :)

sydneychantelle

I was able to blind buy this cult favourite for $46 CAD for 100ml at Winners. I was confident in my choice because of all the love I had heard for it. In my opinion, at first, it is a generic sunscreen scent. It smells like I’ve just sprayed myself with SPF 60 and turned myself a shade of white. However, the jasmine that it dries down to is lovely, and I am not usually fond of Jasmine, I actively avoid it. It is delicate and clean, and very carefree. The kind of warm feeling that a day on the beach leaves on your skin after you’ve showered the sand away. I found it to be very long lasting and while I am a little embarrassed of how blatantly sunscreen-y it smells at first, it is worth it for the dry down. I would not purchase this at its MSRP but am glad I have it as part of my collection.

Albiretu

I got this gem from a swap with LittleRed and I absolutely love this one too!
I've been wanting to try this for a long time and I love it. Beach is much more representative of a walk on the beach than Beach Walk by Martin Margiela, hands down. It's not sweet, it's a fresh beachy smell. Hints of salty water, coconut water, sand, sun, tiare flowers. It performs very well on my skin too. Love it.

Lloves

Such a beautiful scent. Wore this for my beach side wedding and it brings such happy memories. Just wish it was a bit longer lasting. Sunscreen, salt, warm sun, and a cool floral breeze. Very balanced

grannychoochoo

Tried a dab from a rollerball tester and wow..! It smells like the beach...sand, salt, yum. I had not read any reviews so didn't think "Coppertone" or any sun lotion. Just beach. It didn't last too long on my skin (a few hours) but bought a bottle online anyway. Happy birthday to me..! I know it will be a guilty pleasure of mine to spray as often as I need for a pick me up.

Mtc_x

It has the very strong jasmine notes, which is closer to pikake to me. It’s synthetic but that makes this fragrance smell just like sunscreens. It smells totally like a sunscreen but pikake in it. It’s also a bit creamy, and the creaminess makes you feel as if this fragrance has a little bit of vanilla notes or some sort. I feel sand and salt water as well. I couldn’t even imagine that somebody on the earth copied the scent of the sandy beach with this much of accuracy.
This fragrance isn’t what I’m looking for (I’m still looking for sweet and creamy coconuts milk), but I enjoy wearing it for this summer anyway. Interesting smell. Definitely for beach lovers.

paggeo

I absolutely love this scent!! Really reminds me of a sandy beach! I hugged my sister yesterday and she said " oh you smell like suncreen lotion .... like Coppertone". I thought yaaaaay , that is what I want to smell like!!! It really does remind me of Coppertone! So summery! You either love it or hate it, no in-betweens!

sallrw

OH GOOD GOSH, Beach by Bobbi Brown is a time capsule in a bottle! This scent takes me back to when I was a little girl at the beach. I can remember playing in the sand on a hot summer day with coppertone mixed with sand slathered all over my warm sweaty skin. A warm breeze blowing across the salty ocean water mixing all these wonderful scents together and sending them right into my nostrils. I missed this smell and now get to have that joyful childhood memory back

As for the notes, when first sprayed I smell a mix of jasmine, salty sea water and earthy sand. I can even smell a warm breeze (not noted). As it begins to dry down, the jasmine softens, the salty sea water and sand really come forward...with still the warm breeze and it softens into just a hint powdery. I personally do not smell mandarin orange at all. Amazing fragrance! I can't get enough of it!

The sillage was very good and lasted hours. The longevity lasted (on me) into the night.

Come on hot July...I'm ready for ya!

Edit: Heads up! When you wear Beach you will hear over and over pretty much the same compliment. Persons head jerks up with nose sniffing the air, looks around and says "I smell suntan lotion!" Then looks at you and ask "Is that you? Are you wearing suntan lotion? Oh my gosh you smell so good!" I kid you not it will happen to you just about like that. They should have named this perfume "Deja vu" because that's what you will feel is happening when you wear this out. You will definitely receive compliments. Coppertone suntan lotion and the salty beach in the hot summer is exactly what I want to smell like. Loving the compliments I'm getting with this perfume even though they are Deja vu!

fashionluver16

Just picked up a bottle at Selfridges today. I had tried Beach Walk by Maison Margiela and I didn’t like it (the opening was too strong and cloying full of coconut), so I was expecting something light, fresh, and cheerful. Thankfully, this was EXACTLY what I imagined!

The perfect blend of Mandarin and Jasmine is fresh, airy and definitely beachy. I used Hawaiian Tropic as a kid so I'm not sure if it smells like Copperstone, but it definitely smells like one of those sunscreens for beach but in a much more sophisticated way. I am absolutely smitten with this fragrance.

The only downside is its relatively poor longevity. It lasts very short on my skin, perhaps because my skin was very dry at the time I spritzed. Still, the performance is pretty poor considering it is an Eau de Parfum not a Toilette. Also, the dry down was not as impressive as the top notes, it slightly became artificial and generic (but still very pleasant to my nose). To be honest, MM Beach Walk has softer/creamier dry down with richness and longevity, but I fell in love with this perfume from the very first spritz so I don't regret my decision. So sad it is discontinued.

RB2002

Anyone who grew up using Coppertone in the brown bottle will appreciate this scent; a beachy, jasmine, “sunscreen” scent. Not coconut or pineapple or any of those other types of sunscreen smells.

Also, I noticed Sea & Ski sunscreen is back, and despite them saying they used the classic scent, they did not. I think they ripped off this perfume/ Coppertone in the brown bottle scent. A little different, but Clarins sunscreen lotion also has a 70s/ 80s sunscreen scent.

stephanieklein

Forget the notes. This smells exactly like SHE WOOD GOLDEN LIGHT WOOD. I'm surprised there aren't more comparisons. It's a cool breeze type of beach, not a coconut oil sunscreen beach. So if people are looking for a cheaper alternative, they'll be thrilled with SHE WOOD GOLDEN LIGHT WOOD.

Mbrock

The opening is what I would describe as beachy. It isnt "power of suggestion", lol. Jasmine mixed a certain way does make a beachy smell. Maybe it was in sunsceen some of us used growing up, I dont know but thats why "beachy" scents contain jasmine a lot of times. Jennifer Anistons perfume being one.
When this dries down it takes a very weird turn on me. I saw someone else describe a bitter note & thats kind of what I get. I wish it stayed the way it was when first applied. This isnt for me but I get the appeal if it works on your skin.

gtabasso

This is FANTASTIC but there is nothing beachy about this at all. It's not like an Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess. The power of suggestion is amazing. This is like sticking your face into a ton of fresh jasmine blossoms. It is sweet and a tiny bit indolic but not skanky or animalic. This is just fresh, strong, beautiful jasmine. I love it.

angel6

When I was a child I used Coppertone Sunblock in the beach and this perfume take me back to that smell. It's just a little plastic but it's very similar to Coppertone.

pois

I had it, loved it, but used it as a kind of psychological pick up. Particularly in winter, ocasionally just wearing a spritz of this was such a pick up. Ozone and jasmine, just that....

meligonlan

I stumbled upon this beautiful scent and just couldn’t get enough of it. It’s the first time I love a beach smelling scent that is minimalist and classy without an overpowering coconut. It really transported me to the Caribbean. Gets compliments!

rumari47

I was craving a summery beach scent so I got this. I really liked it at first because it made me think of the beach and it had a floral scent in the mix. I sometimes wear it when I’m craving it but I think it’ll take me several decades to finish my 3.4 oz bottle. I don’t crave it enough. I recently wore it and was asked if I was wearing sunblock. Ever since then, all I smell is sunblock when I wear it.

tyekristopher

This has hints of glow by jlo in its undertones, it must be the jasmine or mandarin mixture it has the tropical clan vibe

alyxdavidson

Received a sample of this scent. Not bad. Very fresh and summery. And it is very reminiscent of the beach because it's sunscreen scented. It's literally like she took the scent of sunscreen and made a perfume. It's quite long wearing and inoffensive but only for warm summer days. However, do you really need to spend that much money to smell like sunblock? I won't be buying a full size bottle.

fotoula

I've worn this perfume during a very warm and humid day commuting in trains and buses just to feel the summer mood and project it as well!!! I got the impression it pleased whoever happened to come closer to me! My collection of sea inspired perfumes comprises five or six items and Bobbi Brown's Beach added a sweeter, more flowery, more down-to-earth sunscreen type scent. It's happy, it's warm,it's a scent of a jasmine bud held close to your sun tanned skin that still smells of sea salt and sand while you sip a fizzy orange juice!

Tifstr

I'm ready for the summer and i'm in the mood to find a good beachy fragrance. I recently purchased tom ford soleil blanc and was disappointed with the staying power so I thought I would give this one a try. This smells just like the beach on a summer day! I love the combination of sunscreen, flowers, and salty sea air. The scent lasts longer on me than soleil blanc. It's a great light day time fragrance.

snoopyQ

This is a very "transperent" perfume in that it does not smell perfumey at all. It smells like a body care product. Coppertone? I have never smelled Coppertone, so I cannot comment on that.
However it does have a sunscreen- vibe. To me it smells of salty jasmine, lacking any sweetness what so ever.

Very poor sillage and longevity on me. I spay it on and then .... i smell literally NOTHING.

ashababy

I just received this perfume today. I was looking forward to an alternative to my fav BRonze Giddess which does remind me of summer and the beach. This one just smelled like Jasmine and nothing else’s. I get not mandarins, no ocean and no sand. Just jasmine and a bit of bugspray. It lasted for a few hours and then it was thankfully gone. I have only tried it once and it isn’t hot here yet. I will try again in the summer and update my review.

perfumeaddiction

I would like to thank my swap partner for allowing me to try this one.

Beach is everything I hoped it would be. I get Coppertone sun screen just as I hoped I would. It smells like the spray on Coppertone. Summer in a bottle. Here on the East Coast it's the heart of winter and cold weather. Honestly it's not quite fitting for the cold. I do spray it to remind me that this cold is nearly half over and the warmth and sun are on their way. I will wear this often in the spring and summer. The silage and lasting power of this one are amazing and I adore the simplicity of the box and bottle. Honestly sometimes less is better with packaging and this is a perfect example.

armour

Love hate with this scent. In all honesty I want the perfume to smell like the beach with that suntan lotioney scent that wafts through the sea breeze air! However, this makes my brain dizzy as there is a pungent smell of something strong like chemically wrong as if they mixed flea repellent with a dead weed. I want to love it so much but this only applies after about 4 hours. After four hours you are literally are at the beach where the scent had powdered down to a soft oceaney sparkle with a hint of citrus orange that begs for you yo curl up with a great magazine and sparkling soda.

Hawaiiangirl

A very straightforward perfume that knows what it is. This is for all of us who hung out at the beach, slathered in Coppertone. It is salty, sandy, and full of jasmine. Great for days when you are at the beach or wish you were. One sniff can instantly improve my mood. Definitely takes me back to lazy days in Hawaii spent without a care in the world.

Janlaw

Dirty beach clothes to just plain neroli...

Nataliemarie

I agree w/ the ppl below that say there is a bad synthetic note in this that Bond 9 Fire Island just does not have. FI is MUCH better & lasts longer too. It does have the Suntan Lotion smell for sure, they both do, but to me "Beach" just doesn't cut it. I LOVE FI, LP "Beachy" and many others out there that have this vibe. Out of all of them this is my least favorite b/c of that weird smell.

NouveauDruid

Since this fragrance has been reviewed half a million times I'll be brief.

Beach is Coppertone which lasts 1-3 hours depending on the temperature and then morphs into Cool Water Light.

To me, this is the best of both worlds: the jasmine blooms close once morning has passed and then the sand warms with afternoon heat, mingling at the shoreline with salty waves, leaving their scent on my skin for the rest of the day and evening.

(Here's a tip to combat Beach's fast-fading. Spray it in your hair and on your clothes.)

Blonde Gypsy

It makes me smile to see so many others have the nostalgia of childhood from this perfume as I do. To me this is the 80's. No it doesn't smell like any perfume from the 80's. But it reminds me of that time. I go back to my first road trip being 6 or 7 years old. My family always struggling financially, I rarely had the privilege of out of state travels. But my grandparents decided they wanted to take me to Florida. It would be my first time seeing the ocean and going to Walt Disney World.

The age that I was, I could barely contain my excitement. My poor Paw Paw probably heard "Are we there yet?" countless times. Listening to classic country tunes and driving all the way from southern North Carolina was quite the long drive for me. Arriving in Florida was like going through another dimension. Numerous swamps, murky trees, and moss growing everywhere. The smells were numerous. I could smell the orange groves and it was a whole new world to me. But arriving near the ocean was breathtaking. My eyes had never beheld endless seas and smelled the salty air before. I was speechless and mesmerized with enchantment. I was so in love!

We arrived at our hotel and the beach was literally out our door. I was so excited I could not stand it. Right away me and my Mama (who was a younger woman then) got into our beach gear and headed to the water. Bobbi Brown Beach takes me right to that moment. The instant exhilaration of smelling the fresh salty sea, feeling the water on my legs, and digging my toes into the sand. My grandmother having lathered me up in "suntan lotion" and the smell lingered on my skin while in the water. Carefree happiness and running into that water like there was no tomorrow. Smiling so hard my face hurt and poking at poor little jellyfish. After going inside and the smell of the sea lingering on my skin and clothes. Bobbi Brown put all those memories into this bottle of treasure.

No matter how difficult my adult life is, a spritz of Beach truly brings a smile to my face. Being a mother now and almost old enough to be a grandmother, I find perfumes like this bring such joy to my heart. I hope my own children will one day find their nostalgia in a bottle to remind them of the wealth of childhood. As of now, I am enjoying my journey of nostalgia. Finding perfumes that are taking me down memory lane, they will forever be in my collection.

Ravensaw

This is.......SUNTAN LOTION. Its a good scent, envokes memories from childhood at the OUTDOOR pool, yep I said OUTDOOR.I was out running our Aussie shepard and two people I stopped to talk to asked me what kind of sunscreen I was wearing because they liked the smell.I don't have many occasions to wear this but I'm glad to have it in my stash

Jessicajessa

Finally bit the bullet, got it from Macy's they had a 10 off 50 I got the 3.4 bottle for 80 so not to bad.. I love it!! It smells exactly like sun screen.

Pa.princess

@jessicajessa....why not try the rollerball from Sephora? Then you can see if you like it without paying FB prices.

Jessicajessa

I really want to try this perfume as a lot say it smells like sun screen. Only problem is all the online discounters are out of stock. I don't want to pay full retail. Anyone have a bottle they don't want pm me;)

starlight93

Smells like a toiler cleaner and like a bug repellant..

Purefumelover

Beach smells like a bug repellant. The jasmine in it is totally synthetic and there are no natural oils that make up that 'Coppertone' synthetic scent.
Smelling synthetic fragrances is waste of our health. I am not fooled by advertising and designer names. I bought it at first without knowing all the facts about it and then gad to give it to a friend because it would give me headaches.

Bylaw

This has been my signature scent forever. I've been wearing it constantly for at least a decade.

You really honestly cannot judge this fragrance by how it smells in the bottle. It's gorgeous in the bottle but there is an antisceptic topnote to it that evaporates on the skin. This scent is both warm and fresh at the same time and transforms to your chemistry. I can't live without this perfume and wear it nearly every other day.

blackmartini

Not really a review but more a warning to fans of this stuff: I was told today by a Bobbi Brown make up artist that Beach and all other BB perfumes were being discontinued...

aqua76239

I wrote the review few years ago but the other day I smelled it again in Nordstroms. Now I know what it reminds me of-when I was growing up(in Eastern Europe), lot of women used this facial toner(at least that's what I think it was), and it smelled just like that. It certainly doesn't smell like the beach. I can't imagine wearing this as perfume. It actually smells astringent. Weird is that this is

mychinarose

I blind-bought this during a Sephora VIB sale. I regretted it immediately. There's something synthetic-smelling about it, as a previous reviewer mentioned. I wanted a really beachy summery smell. I actually found it in Replica's "Beach Walk" (also bought off of Sephora online during a sale). It's described as "sun-kissed salty skin" and that's exactly what it smells like (Coppertone mixed with salty brine). Bobbi Brown's "Beach" should have done the same. Fortunately I only bought the roller ball size. I may try to exchange it at a Sephora store at some point. I highly recommend the Replica version!

Edit (about a year later): I decided to wear this today since it's in my inventory, and I'm not a hater anymore. This is the exact smell of Coppertone sunscreen lotion SPF 5 (or 15, max) from the '80s. Because of that, it definitely smells like summertime at the pool or at the beach. Today is September 1 and I guess I decided I wanted to get my last summer-time hurrahs by wearing this...although the weather here in Texas may stay in the 100s (or 90s at least) for a good while yet.

medusa666

To the expert nose who knows natural from synthetic, Beach is a bitch....
The Jasmine is a synthetic version and it smells like a bug repellant after a while. Totally synthetic.

EnergeticCrab

Smells literally like the beach.
- Sunscreen
- Towels
- Sand
- Water
- Flip Flops
- Sun

It's nice if you like that sort of thing, but it doesn't feel versatile at all.

missguided23

When I first put this on it smells like when you get to the beach in the morning. The suntan oil, sand, the seabreeze and warm salty skin. Perfect if you want to escape in your head. But you know that feeling at the end of a day at the beach when you feel too sandy... too sticky... too oily... that's what it ends up like on me. All you want to do is take a shower and get it off. Definately the beach in a bottle. Won't repurchase though.

laurniko

I LOVE the smell of suntan lotion and in the summer I use banana boat dry oil for a body moisturizer instead of lotion, so I do love all beachy scents and this is no question right up my alley. BUT..BUT.. it doesn't last very long! And it's not really that cheap, so I do feel Demeter offers some scents you could layer and make this more your own, but I get crazy nostalgia when I've worn this and I am questioning buying the whole bottle for summer, as I've only sampled it. It does what it's trying to do really well and if you're looking to smell EXACTLY. LIKE. THE. BEACH, then this is a great one to try! For my money though, I'd rather go with Replica's Beach Walk.

mrs.ralph

I really want to sample before spending that much money, will anyone consider adding me a sample

Sherihan

The new rectangular bottle is very weak, it is still saying Eau de Parfum, but smells like Eau de Cologne. I did a previous review, saying positive things, but that was about the old cylinder bottle. The smell itself is almost the same, and I'm enjoying it, but please make it stronger Bobbi.

Lkrautter

Smells exactly how strolling along a beach would smell. Suntan lotion, salty ocean air and all. Great for ocean nostaligiacs.

CoffeeLuva

All I know is that when I put this on, I close my eyes and imagine the ocean breeze, hot sun but not sweating, and relaxing in the sun. I actually really like this. I guess I don't get to the beach enough, so I have it in a bottle.

Neckromancer

I actually really like this. I'm not sure why people are giving it such a hard time. It's a very creamy scent, and it smells just like the sunscreen I used as a kid. It really reminds me of the beach and getting sand in all the wrong places.
People who don't think this smells like sunscreen were spoiled with coconutty goodness their whole life and never had to smear on the SPF of the lower income bracket.

biblio17

Orange flower, mandarini flower, sea, salt, air, beach and sunscreen: Glorious Greek summer and this light ethereal perfume. I get compliments from women and men, although in Greece is not very common to comment about perfumes.I was looking for a fragrance, smelling like coppertone, my partner sunscreen for years. I found it and became my signature fragrance. Unfortunately, it doesn't last more than two hours , so i have to spray again.I have to say that the bottle of my perfume is different from the image in Fragrantica. I hope hey did'not change the perfume itself!Maybe i should buy some bottles for buck up before the "new version?" comes here.

saltandsea

I like it. Yeah, it smells like a fake Coppertone at first, but the problem with Coppertone (and this) is that the Coppertone in the bottle is way different from that on the skin. I want the Coppertone in the bottle scent, and I can't have it.

This, though, if I decide it isn't about Coppertone, is great.

I'd like to make it slightly more salty.

I'm also enjoying Tom Ford's Neroli Portafino, but that one is great a first and sours.

The two of these mixed BB and TF have been great.

I didn't like I hate perfume at the beach 1966 it was too plastic.

Neosmiaphyte

This scent is exactly what Bobbi Brown intended when she created it: Coppertone on skin. Beach is NOT one of those summer scents that is REMINISCENT of sunscreen because of the use of neroli and/or citrus. Beach IS the smell of sunscreen. No more, no less. This is a plus for some while being a negative for others.

Another option given by the Sephora SA: save money by going across the street to Target and buying Coppertone. Then you get SPF protection with the same scent as Beach.

Axum

A scent that seemed interesting at first, but of which I soon tired, and then longed to be free of. Now it's repulsive, a strange chemical stew of bandaids and decay.

Nat001

This smells exactly like sunscreen. Even my six year old daughter asked me if I was wearing sunscreen, that is how I confirmed it smells exactly like it. That is the reason why I bought it and it delivers. My only problem with this is the price, it should not cost this much considering it doesn't last that long. It also doesn't come in bigger bottles only in the 1.7 oz bottle so I feel like I can't use it as much as I would because it is painful to see how fast the bottle goes down. I am not sure I will repurchase due to the longevity issue. I only get about 2 hours of it before it disappears. This is over spraying it and even putting it on my hair. If this was cheaper and longer lasting this would definitively be my signature summer scent!

Konga5000

It was discontinued..now it's back?
Synthetic sun tan lotion should NOT cost this much!
Same on Bobbi Brown !

Bermuda bliss

I do adore this fragrance.bear in mind ...I live on an island and today it was sunny, thus works like a charm!! I couldn't believe how great the longevity is.
However ,I will not wear this on a Workday, cause it will screw your mind over ,thinking about the beach the hole time.........

pompous

I found this perfume by searching for scents that smell like sunscreen.

I tried it on in the House of Fraser in Glasgow, at the Bobbi Brown counter. I asked to try it on, and wanted to ask a bit about the notes of the perfume. I said something along the lines of "This smells of jasmine, is there any jasmine in this?", and the lady at the counter gave me the dumbest look and did not even answer the question..

As for the fragrance itself, I am not a fan actually! It was quite powdery and soft to me, but I smell zero sunscreen.

AliPratt25

I live in Florida and grew up on the beach. This scent truly reminds me of the evening after a day at the beach. After your skin has been slathered with sunscreen all day and slightly burned to a rosy golden brown. After you've taken a shower with plain Dove/Ivory soap and dried off with fluffy, clean, warm towels. Maybe you've put some after-sun lotion on. You curl up in bed and watch t.v. and drift off to sleep, still feeling the waves rock your body....

genny17

Beach isn't a typical sun tan scent, I can wear it n our cold Canadian winter, it makes me think of the breeze from the ocean, not so much the smell of suntan lotions..it is unique, I have to be in the mood to wear it, but I like it, although I don't love it!, it is a bright marine floral...makes me think a bit of the Aniston blue perfume, pretty, interesting, in a different league!

Konga5000

> THIS..........ushered me into the FRAG WORLD.

I wanted a "beach scent" so badly . At first this smelled AMAZING and it was my first encounter with an expensive frag.

However - I am so over "sun tan lotion" scents and have moved on.

This frag is good- but should be $29.99 for a 3.4 oz. bottle. and then marked down to $15.00 at T.J. Mish-Mosh.

REALLY over-priced for what it is (100% synthetic?)

Thank you Bobbi Brown.......and goodbye.

Shoota#1

Nice one by Bobbi Brown! Reminds me of a beach with a cool breeze!

camden-girl

I am a bit shocked at all the good reviews for this perfume as to me this is ghastly ! ! Yes I know no balloons for me as rave reviews always get more i have noticed but surely not everyone loves this ?
I was soo looking forward to getting my bottle in post which stupidly I blind bought down to all the good reviews all over the net , I opened the box desperate for something different but equal in loveliness to bronze goddess and what did I get ? Floor cleaner !! Omg nothing nice about this perfume, 3 days later I'm still trying to like it and can't. I cannot get past the initial chemical smell mixed with some flowers which I have smelled b4 in most dilute floor cleaners. Beach also reminds me of the toilets at Brighton when it's hot and sunny , I remember their was a small window and I could smell the lovely seaside sandy salty air mixed with the sent of some toilet cleaner and people's pee , this sent is Bobbi brown beach, I'm not convinced I'll ever like this one but thankfully after 20 mins it was gone anyway indicating that it's weak too :( my boyfriend smell tested and said " its not that bad but its not that good either." Haha nicely put ! Maybe I have a bad bottle that's turned or something but its unlikely I'm just not a convert yet sorry Bobbi.

miadam728

This scent is a true summer gem! Smells perfect for the beach. Sand, ocean, Coppertone. Why oh why is it so weak? It is gone within an hour and totally undetectable. If 'Beach' lasted longer and was stronger it would be amazing.

evie71

This is truly the complete beach experience in a bottle. I feel like I should hate this fragrance but I love it. It is everything I love and hate about the beach at the same time. The sun, the sand, the warm salt water, coppertone, the wind blowing your umbrella away, swallowing some sea water and sand when you get hit by that wave you never saw coming, being hit in the face by a runaway frisbee, parking, etc., you get the picture. Notice it is called Beach, not The Beach. It's because it hits you with a wall of water at first, then turns into freshly applied sunscreen mixed with the salt and sand stuck to your skin, then mellows into a nice melange of all of the above.

lee.lawrence.5036

I almost bought the rollerball online based on the description of it as being similar to coppertone, but I had figured a trek to Sephora wouldn't be a bad way to kill a few hours and boy am I glad I smelled it first. The girl sprayed it on one of those paper strips and waved it in front of me and I almost passed out it was such a pungent chemical smell. It reminds me of something I would clean the floor with. Perhaps this is what coppertone smells like and I just don't remember.

minusvminus

I feel the opening notes were like being kicked in the nose by Poseidon.I was extremely overwhelmed by the burst of sand and sea water. I never thought I'd use the sentence," It reeked of salt and sand." I mean the smell is intense, the scent invoked memories as a child of slipping into a wave too strong and ending up face first on the beach, sand crusted over the face, screaming for my father. Then it turned on me and bloomed into an almost skanky scent. I'm sure it's something that was just me, I got whiffs of something I likened to a white t shirt that was worn for too long, not precisely body odor but not clean. Then just as suddenly as the tide came in, it mellowed out into a Coppper Tone sunscreen scent. To say the least, it was an olfactory adventure. Don't blind buy, try a sample first.

scarywitch

i wouldn't suspect such a atmospheric and representational perfume from an other wise pretty conservative beauty brand like Bobbi Brown. however, i suppose minimalism is a huge part of their aesthetic, and that is probably behind the brilliance of of this scent.

instead of focusing on the "sexiness" or "fun" of the nebulous idea of "the beach", "Beach" by bobbi brown captures in vivid and measured detail what the experience of going to the beach smells like powerfully.

it's sandy, sunscreen-y, salty. smells like seagrass blowing through the wind, the ocean, the smell of salt water evaporating off of skin in the hot sun.

this evokes organic memories of the actually energy of the beach, rather than distorting it with extraneous typically "perfume-y" "feminine" or "sexy" smells. On me, i'd argue it could be unisex or even a perfect scent for a candle or a room.

wearing this in mid-winter allows you to transport yourself and capture the energy of the warmth of the surf and the sun.

raw umber

Salty non-sweet jasmine. Sunscreen. The open north Atlantic ocean. Dusty sand. Blinding white sunlight. Beach is a harsh, stark scent which truly cleared my sinuses like the sharp cold spray from the real ocean does. A beach is a brutal environment, even when the weather is agreeable.

When I decided to own Bobbi Brown Beach, I broke one of my personal rules: never wear a literal scent out of context and risk skewing natural associations. Certain scents have a nearly sacred status to me. Similar to how in other cultures, scented oils and incense materials are reserved for important rituals. My own rituals correspond to memories and to nature.

Hot pine needles and burning wood mean camping with my family. Frankincense means visiting cathedrals with my class in grade school.
Hot rainy air is also a sacred scent, and these natural, memory-laden scents are my true "special occasion scents", because to wear them at the DMV or while filing my taxes seems just short of blasphemous, but here's my REAL fear:
I don't want to encounter the natural scent in the world coming from its true origin, and instantly be reminded of my smell-alike perfume (rather than the thing itself). This happened to me once before and the result was traumatizing.

I was walking through my neighborhood and smelled a neighbor's barbeque and thought to myself, "mmm... Smells like a combination of Wazamba and Arso. ...Noooo!"
I couldn't wear Wazamba and Arso after that because I want burning wood to remind me of burning wood, and the distant burning wood of my past.

Which brings me to Beach. I live by the beach and for me, it's one of the most important scents of all. If I ever step out of the house, inhale deeply, and think, "Mmm...Smells like Bobbi Brown Beach!" I'm going to jump off a cliff. That's how accurate and harsh, salty and brilliant a beach facsimile this is.

Archivist's description of feeling Zonked is no exaggeration. I felt myself go slightly wall-eyed while wearing it. Why'd I decide to risk permanently skewing my associations and break my rule?
I'm tired.

Update:
Purchased a new bottle of this recently and it smelled artificial and sharp. I think it has been reformulated. Sad.

Piscean-Blue

Okay, so here's the thing about this fragrance. Simply put: it smells like the beach. Let me clarify. It doesn't smell like something you'd WEAR to the beach. It doesn't smell like something that would GO GOOD at the beach. No. IT SMELLS LIKE THE BEACH. It smells like someone is shoving your head in the sand and then dunking you in the ocean and then rubbing your face in a coral reef. In other words: it is magical... Well, for some...

Here are my thoughts:
-This isn't an "easy" scent. Not everyone is going to like it- and it is pricey. Do not blind buy. Get yourself a sample. And when you do... stick with it awhile. Let it grow on you. This is one of those numbers that makes you think, but if it can manage to get you to fall in love with it, you'll grant it a primier spot on your fragrance display.
-I don't care if they scrawl "for women" in giant font all over the bottle. This is unisex. If you're a dude, go for it.
-If you are into mixing scents this makes an awesome, awesome base! Try it with something coconutty or vanilla-ish. It goes wonderfully with fruity scents (adding complexity). You can really work with this one!
-This smells very high end. In my opinion it is suitable for day or night. Ideally, it's a day scent, but you can spritz this on at night for special occasions, no problemo.
-Although this is not an "easy" choice in the sense of everyone liking it, it is easy in the sense that it is mellow. If you like calming fragrances, try this.
-Many people compare this to suntan lotion, especially Coppertone. I say, "Hmmmn... yeah... sort of..." It's like a higher end version of Coppertone, without the coconut element.

mirrorladybug

This was the first perfume I loved at first sniff. It's not love anymore. It is (slightly) the good smell of sunscreen in the summer. I find myself, though. like some other people have written, not wearing it. In summer, I don't need to be reminded of summer, and wear white florals. Then in winter, I wear white florals because they remind me of summer. I really like this as a scent, just not on me. Perhaps I will use it as a room fragrence.

Dreama

To me this is a one note wonder. All I smell is the benzoin (the component that gives it the Coppertone smell), and that gets annoying really quickly. Never detected the jasmine at all even after several hours. I prefer Beach Walk from Maison Martin Margiela's Replica line. At least Beach Walk contains other detectable notes, which keeps it from getting boring. If you own Beach, please do everyone a favor and layer it! Skin by Clean would be a great choice.

Medea12

This scent is discreet and stays close to the skin.
It does not though have either marine/salty or sand notes. Salt and sand are scentless and the ocean smells of iodine and seaweed.
Beach fragrance has no marine notes in it.

The jasmine and mandarin are noticeable (most likely synthetic versions) and the first thing which comes to mind when one sniffs this is definitely Coppertone.

It should have been simply named Eau de Coppertone.
It is the kind of scent which reminds us of our days wearing synthetic sunscreen while baking in the sun. CB's I Hate Perfume 1966 Beach smells a lot better and it is made with natural oils-not synthetic like BB's.

lcommisso

It is suntan lotion mixed with flowers. It is definitely beachy, and I think it would be great layered with one of Lolita's fragrances that also smells beachy, Elle L'aime.

smalltownbeatnik

This perfume is pure sorcery. It smells exactly like surf and sand. I bet if you put your ear to the bottle, you can hear the ocean. Best blind buy ever.

sokoblonde8

I totally agree with purrz11. This was a blind buy for me as well. I read about it on sephora and ordered a roller ball Immediately. Instantly fell in love. It reminds me of an adult version of copper tone water babies sun screen which to me is the BEACH and summer!! Very nostalgic. I've never been to the ocean and to me the beach is the lake but it still screams summertime. I got a lot of compliments on it and I love the way it smells on me. My new favorite! Even though it reminds me of my favorite childhood sunscreen, I don't find this scent powdery at all, just very fresh which makes it even better. I just wish it would last a little longer.

miss mills

I just tried this on today in my local dept store - it does smell just like the beach! Salty sea air, sand, I think I actually relaxed a little as I sniffed it, might need to order a sample vial for those days when I need a pick me up..

lolipophead

I just got back from a few days camping and the only fragrance I happened to have with me was Beach. Amidst all the chaos, I found myself chasing after a scent....someone smelt fabulous, and it was driving me crazy. I even sniffed the necks of people to discover who it was....you've guessed it....me!! Something happens to this scent when it is worn under your clothes, just lovely, a little piece of everyday magic.

zenbabylove

I'm still on the fence with this because I just got the rollerball today.

I ordered it sight unsmelled from Sephora based on the notes listed.

I wanted more of the coppertone/suntan lotion aura, and while it IS in there,
there's something else that smells like a sharp weed on my skin.

Perhaps it's my chemistry, but this doesn't smell like the beach on me.

It's more like an old lady frag on me.

glambert

I sampled this today and I absolutely love this scent! The sand and sea water notes make it smell exactly like the beach! The Jasmine and Mandarin orange notes make it wearable for everyday, or as a comfort scent. I would wear this on casual days or on days when I feel down or sad. This is definitely a comfort scent for me because I grew up in Southeast Georgia and this reminds me of sunshine and happy days by the ocean.

OKcololo

Simply put, milky jasmine + marine notes. That might sound offputting but it's actually very pleasant and humorous, and lasts a long time. It's a lot like Vanilia, in the sense that it's cheerful, a bit vulgar, and goes perfectly with brash summer beach-parties. Unlike Vanilia though, it hasn't been discontinued and is not overpriced, hence I highly reccomend it!
4/5 - 9/10

heymoe9

Tried it yesterday against 2 other summer perfumes. It smelled great and lasted through a shower and until morning. It smells like sand, sun and the beach. Just what I wanted. This will be my next purchase.
There are those that ask why you want to spend this much on a perfume that smells like suntan lotion, but it is so much more. It is memories of the beach, hot dogs and fireworks, riding the surf and catching sand crabs. No amount of money can pay for memories and feelings of my youth.
Summer love bottled.

DandelionPicker

The beach...it a bottle. Smells a lot like suntan lotion. Love it on a hot summer day.

MLK

I went to the Bobbi Brown counter to purchase some makeup and decided to have a spray of Beach fragrance as I had heard so much about it. As I was paying for my makeup purchases, I just could not get over how light this fragrance was (reminding me of my days at the beach with Coppertone tanning oil all over me) - I bought a bottle on the spot and have been wearing it all week. It just lifts my spirits and makes me feel relaxed and happy. It is not overpowering and easy to wear to work and everyday. I think my next purchase will be Bobbi Brown's Almost Bare perfume.

Tovah

My husband says this is the most beautiful fragrance in the world. He absolutely loves Beach, and he cannot understand why I would ever want to wear anything else. Back when Amazing Grace first came out (long before the formula was changed) he loved that scent, and he wanted me to wear it all the time. He is a very consistent man. Amazing Grace used to be very similar to Beach...they are both clean, musky florals with a carefree, clean, beachy feel.

Contrary to the usual common fragrance fates, I think Beach has improved! I owned it a few years ago, and I enjoyed the "Coppertone" accord of my childhood, but I felt Beach smelled too much like suntan lotion.

The bottle of Beach I bought a few days ago smells much more of a real "perfume" than an edt mimicking a scent memory. The pikake note is fully present, and the musk seems much less metallic; higher quality. It's so lovely.

Musky4

I tend to really like mandarin notes in perfumes, but couldn't detect any in this one. To my nose, this isn't a 'beachy' scent at all. There's nothing tropical or exotic about it. Something about it does remind me of that 'hotel' smell, but I don't find it very pleasant or summery. This would definitely give me a headache.

lanuitblanche

This is sort of like a Coppertone "solifore"! :-P

The main note is of Coppertone, but on me, it also has a salty briny note mixed in, with a jasmine weaving in and out through everything. It feels simple, but PERFECT if a day at the beach in perfume form is what you're craving. It also lasts quite a while, unexpectedly, about 4 hours on me. I adore this.

Hellokt

It's Coppertone and Giorgio Beverly Hills (80's version), although a bit subtler.

The smell of Coppertone is one of my favorite smells so of course I love this. Although, if I can find the original Coppertone oil, I'd buy that and save money. :)

afartherroom

Not an exact copy of the smell of vintage Coppertone (for that, try CB I Hate Perfume's At the Beach 1966) but rather, Coppertone as seen (smelled?) through a hazy filter of nostalgia. The suntan lotion here has been cleaned up a bit, made more presentable, prettified. That high, nasal, chemical sunscreen edge is still in evidence, of course (after all, if it were entirely absent, then how would you even recognize this as suntan lotion?), but it's been toned way down, allowing the scent that the functional perfumers responsible for the smell of Coppertone were probably actually aiming for to come through more cleanly. And what scent is that, once you strip some of the chemical edge away? What's Coppertone, once it takes off its glasses and lets its hair down? Well, it's primarily jasmine and orange blossom, with a complementary citrus up top. Why, Miss Bain de Soleil! You're floral!

This is a simple scent, and those who tire easily of jasmine or who have a low tolerance for white florals in general may find it just a little bit cloying after a while. It's not entirely linear, though: after a few hours, the flat mineral smell of dry sand finally puts in an appearance -- I had thought that it wasn't going to show at all, but just when I'd given up on the 'sand' note, there it was! The other beachy scents the notes claim, however, elude me. I can't smell any salt water or sea breeze in here at all. That's okay, though: the suntan lotion associations are strong enough that my imagination can halfway fill them in for me anyway.

As beach nostalgia scents go, I far prefer the photorealism of At the Beach 1966, but this is certainly a cheerful summery fragrance, and I'm sure that it will bring a smile to many faces. Longevity is good -- this one can see you through an 8-hour workday -- and it stays politely close to the skin.

Sherihan

This wasn't launched in 2009, it was before that I'm sure. It's great scent, that kind of perfumes that will be a masterpiece in the history of perfume!! Yes, I loved it very much,it has a nostalgia with me. As I like to wear soft, clean, fresh perfume at night, I can do that with this. Last word, it's a twin sister to Beyond Paradise by Estée Lauder , but I like this more,as it is softer and cleaner.

leighhannah

2 hours into it, I can actually smell the sand! Not sure if that's a good thing or not, but it is accurate. I prefer the body oil to the perfume. It's mellow and not as sandy. In the oil, it's actually a very nice, calming scent that I can subtly smell all day.

diego.lesgart

The sun in the skin in a day of beach!!! Mainly sunblockly. Afternoon or early evening in the beach... sea, sun and mainly sand.

SCBohemian

Bobbi Brown's Beach was a "blind" purchase, but I have no regrets! It evokes a clean, tropical breeze of orange blossom with salty, classic Coppertone notes. Beach is a vacation in a bottle! Reminiscent of Yankee Candle's "Sun and Sand" fragrance. This eau de parfum is my new favorite; an instant mood lifter! Sillage is moderate and longevity is about 3 hours

Bluemarinejosephine

I was looking for a perfume that would smell like Coppertone sunscreen which, to me, smells as a combination of coconut and tiare scents. I read the reviews and decided to try “Beach” by Bobbi Brown.

"Beach" by Bobbi Brown is a light and pleasant fragrance of weak longevity, sadly. It starts off as a quite artificial scent (which initially disappointed me) but it gradually builds up to a fresh, clean fragrance with a pleasant hint of jasmine and sea breeze.

It is a likeable, crisp, daytime, summer fragrance which smells nothing like Coppertone as it does not have that intense, sweet and warm coconut smell which is the Coppertone signature scent, it is pleasing nonetheless.

It just wasn’t what I was looking for.

I recommend “Beach” by Bobbi Brown if you are looking for a cheerful, congenial, breezy frangrance with a jasmine twist. It is not a signature frangrance that may hunt you forever (like the classic, recognizable fragrances like, Samsara by Guerlain or Tresor by Lancome etc) but it is pleasant to wear and I would definitely recommend it for younger girls as it feels carefree and youthful.

I would not recommend it however, if you (like myself) are searching for a warm, intense, sweet, creamy coconut scent.

Enjoy the perfume quest!

I was given this perfume out of the blue by my stepmother. I love new perfume's and admired Bobbi Brown's cosmetic line but had never tried her fragrances. I was very delighted. It is a fierce feminine fragrance. Very sexy. Deep and quite earthy on my skin. However, no notes of suntan lotion smell that everyone keeps comparing it to. More like an undertow of sunshine in a bottle.

This doesn't smell like sunscreen at all, sorry. I live in tropics and wear sunscreen year around although I prefer Hawaiian Tropics because it smells better than some of the other. However BB Beach doesn't bring that smell to mind at all-it smells like clean salty water with fresh flowers floating on it. Not my thing but if you want to smell like ocean water and sand, with some detergent(but not sunscreen), this one is for you
P.S. Review by Bandit is right on-I am European and I totally agree with what she is saying.

orchid_84

Beach is a breezy summer fragrance reminiscent of a relaxing day in the sun. It smells of warm sand, Coppertone sunscreen, and fresh jasmine flowers. The Coppertone scent certainly dominates in the opening notes, mellowing out once the fragrance has been on my skin a while. The sunscreen vibe always remains present, providing a warm-skin backdrop for the other notes. The jasmine is quite strong as well, becoming a hint grapey in the mid-notes. By the drydown, I mostly get the scent of sun-warmed skin and sand, with the soft aroma of delicate jasmine flowers carried on the ocean breeze.

This is one of very few "beachy" fragrances that manages to evoke the beach without smelling like coconut or sweet tropical fruits. While I do enjoy the scent of coconut, Bobbi Brown's fragrance recalls the beach with the realistic scents of sand, ocean breeze and flowers instead. There is a degree of oceanic freshness in this fragrance, but it doesn't smell salty to me. There are also none of those overbearing "fresh" chemical accords that are often characteristic of aquatic fragrances. This projects nicely in the first few hours, and the lasting power is quite good for me as well. I enjoy this fragrance a lot.

Coppertone. Very strong coppertone. Not necessarily a bad thing. Once again it evokes an emotional response of long, hot school summer holidays, bicycle rides, crab apples, damson stained clothes and faces, and your mum, taking five in the garden, slopping the coppertone on from the distinctive copper coloured plastic bottle. It makes me think of mum. It fills me with nostalgia for more innocent and exciting times. It makes me 16, finding out that fake tan on my legs works better than tights with a gypsy skirt and petticoat, with a motorcycle jacket slung over my Boho shoulder. When I need to remember my mother's smile, I will spray a bit of this into the rays of the sun coming in through the window and run through the atoms. I'll saunter up to the motorcycle showroom to smell the petrol and stroke the chrome, re-appraise the middle aged bald guys with goatees who used to be young, wild, slender, long of hair Jim Morrison types with Levi's and 'tude. Bittersweet fragrance. A sign of the times.

Moonwalk Memorie

I was skeptical of the reviews here and skin tested.

No actual beach, just straight-forward Coppertone. They're 100% right.

"Beach" lasted almost 7 hours on me.

MarillaV

A very straightforward perfume that knows what it is. This is for all of us who hung out at the beach, slathered in Coppertone. It is salty, sandy, and full of jasmine. Great for days when you are at the beach or wish you were. One sniff can instantly improve my mood. Definitely takes me back to lazy days spent without a care in the world.

I have wavered with two samples this and CB I hate perfume at the beach. Trying to decide which to purchase for the long haul;) I chose Bobbi brown and the longevity is so much better than I expected! The scents are so close that I am sure either way is a win but BB is cheaper and it's amazing. If you don't like suntan lotion smell though, you won't like this. I am a huge coppertone fan and this hits the spot!!!!!!!

nikoleta1

This is my new best friend, happy, sunny and beachy, beautiful and long lasting, smells like body that was sun lotioned and soaked in the ocean. This came as a swap all the way from Norway. Thanks new swap fried pinky7.

tiger1962

This is another favorite of mine. Perfect for the summer or anytime you want to be reminded of your childhood when your mom put Coppertone all over you so you would not burn. It reminds me of the beach, vacation, all good things and it lasts too. I bought the lotion and the perfume and layering them makes it last even more. Smells just like you think the sand, sun and ocean would.

surfergirlpuppy

Smells like salty beaches & how Coppertone suntan lotion used to smell. Reminds me of sun-shiney days on a beach in Florida. I love it.This is one of those great memory producing scents. I never want to be without it.
I also want to try some beachy scents that remind Europeans of their beach days. Please message me your favorites so I may add them to my scent rotation.

Jitterbug Perfume Lover

This scent brings me right back to the carefree days of summer; before life was complicated; simpler times and happy fond memories. I grew up on the beach and often wore Coppertone, or sometimes Hawaiian Tropic (still looking for the perfume version of that one!!)

Bobbi Brown Beach is the perfume version of Lenny Kravitz' song "California". It smells exactly like Coppertone, but I can wear it without the greasy residue of sunblock.

These days when summer is here, I put the convertible top down, blast some Lenny, wear my sexy sunglasses and beachy sundresses and a spritz of beach (with a layering of Manoi moisture melt or BBW coconut lime breeze lotion) and it's another perfect sunny day in L.A!! Bravo Bobbi Brown and thanks for the happy happy memories.

RGR

I was reluctant to write a review of Bobbi Brown Beach perfume. It is a perfume that brings back so many fond memories I cant even put into words. I didn't want to exaggerate anything because I know I will sound crazy but all I can say is I Love Love LOVE this stuff! And just letting you guys know I can't dissect this fragrance like I usually do because I just can't. So here's my opinion on Beach perfume>

It was winter time the first time I smelled this. Right in the middle of sweaters and scarves I was reminded of a little, 6 year old, wide-eyed me being slathered by my mom in suntan lotion. I remember skipping gladly into the sun. My little feet sinking into the hot sand and dwelling for hours on the shore looking for colorful seashells, stones, pebbles. Those days are now gone and never coming back. I had to grow up to learn this.

Anyways, I always enjoyed the beach. I also remember my swimsuit getting filled with sand and being taken away from the beach kicking and screaming just as the sun went down. My mother always looking in my direction through 70's style sunglasses. Now I know she was watching over me. But back then I was a tiny and oblivious child. This makes me smile and remember how careless those days were.

All of this because of a little jasmine and sand scent I encountered while shopping in a department store. Its not complicated, I am just another victim of nostalgia. I'm not going to point out notes in this fragrance. It's seems useless at this point because now I am a young woman that worries about everything else in life. Smelling this perfume makes me remember about NOT worrying and enjoying the moment. This is just price-less to me. I can't bring back the places, the people, the time and the little wonders of those moments. All I have left is what I can remember. Bobbi Brown made me remember all of this.

Now I bet people wear this perfume in the spring or summer. I like to wear it under sweaters in the dead of winter, when I feel a little homesick, when I feel nostalgic, when I want to go against every other winter fragrance out there, when I feel like I need a dose of sun and sand, when I need warmth in the cold. I will always have this even if people think this is expensive. I do not care what other people think. All I know is I enjoy every bit of this.

Bandit

I wouldn't believe it, although the Perfume Shrine told me so (I should have known better than to doubt her):

There is a big cultural gap between Europe and US when it comes to beach fumes. For us Europeans it is ambre, coconut and ylang ylang (mostly Ambre Solaire, but also those good old fashioned coconut oils without sunblock at all, lol, times change), for Americans it is "coppertone".

Coppertone for me has nothing to do with beach, I mean nada, zero, nothing, überhaupt gar nicht. It smells like a generic jasmin-orange blossom combo, which I smelled before, but never liked a bit. Soapy, chemical and very unpleasant. I cannot stand this smell. Actually it reminds me of detergents cleaning ladies used in Spain in the eighties, so I get some holiday memories, but not the right ones.

This is a pity, as I wished for an experience like the US perfumistas have while sniffing "Beach", CB's Beach scent and the others, in which coppertone is mixed in. I am soooo jealous!

I want that, too! Gimme an Ambre Solaire or Delial fume!!!

;)

agiuliano87

smells just like sunblock. If anyone likes yankee candles its pretty much identical to the sun&sand scent. Im in love with it so far :)

Nadia31

Beautiful Hawaiian tropic scent, totally 1980s on the beach! Marvellous!

Gingersnpr

I just got my sample today. I have Jennifer aniston parfume and I am waiting for my sample of CB I hate the beach. Anyway, hand shown so far Jennifer wins on the "beach" scents. Bobbi browns smells like walmarts sunblock spray(which I don't mind seeing I love beach smell) but jennifer has captured something a tad sweeter, less chemically. Less coppertone. But I know that if I had a bottle of this for like 15 bucks I'd wear it. Lol. Just not for the price tag it sells for. Also this would be perfect paired with Victorias secret beach lotion.

Yamba1

Bobbi Brown Beach is an ode to coppertone and sun filled days on the beach. I've had my share of such days, drenched in coppertone, taking lazy dips in the ocean before settling into more sun bathing so this scent has taken me back to those days immediately. (Oh the guilt! I now have to check my moles monthly to detect skin cancer). Anyway, for some reason, it *just* misses the mark to nail it completely. Upon opening, there is a definite citrus note that soon gives way to an overly sweet note (jasmine?) that is definitely present in the coppertone lotion, but what it lacks is enough saltiness in my opinion to call it completely authentic. This sweetness dominates the perfume for the first 30 mins or so, then it starts to fade quickly into barely a skin scent.

It is very similar to CB I Hate Perfume At The Beach 1966 which in my opinion is a better coppertone/beach interpretation due to the more dominant salty note.

Mons

I really like this fragrance, clean and fresh - but not in the aquatic manner.
It reminds me of the air by the ocean in the morning, before the crowds swarm the beach. It is a very feminine and comforting scent, however, it does not last very long and one must lean in to catch the scent because it isn't very strong. This does have its advantages, naturally, but I do need a little more umph from a scent. I'm on my third bottle of beach, I won't lie-- I go very heavy handed with this. It mixes very nicely with Balmain's Ivorie.

Being a Mediterranean girl and having spent my summers in the greek islands in the 80s and 90s I have to say that this perfume doesn't smell like the beach I used to know:( I'm still looking for something to bring me that memory. I still like it though and have purchased it twice, and think about getting it again. I also found that the new version (square bottle) smells less like jasmine, which was quite overpowering in the previous bottle version. It still smells mostly like jasmine (more than anything else to me) and I almost don't get the sand or sea smell unfortunately:( Also I noticed that whe I wear it in the summer it smells better, as compared to wearing it on a winter cold and windy day (bug spray resemplance) Maybe I should try I hate perfume's beach version and see if I have more luck there!

seneca

One of my favorite summer scents - warm, thick, hot yellow sand - reminds me of Miami - South Miami Beach to be exact. Love this juice. Can't wait until I can afford some more.

This is 'Beach' in a Bottle. Nothing cold or Marine, nor even oceanic about it. If you love the beach you will really like this :))

Surprisingly, Bobbi Brown's Beach does actually smell like a day at the beach. To my nose, it's the scent of sunscreen, wet sand and salt air.

A floral aquatic is just about spot-on when describing this fragrance. The jasmine accord is fairly dominate in Beach, particularly in the opening. When the scent first hits the skin, you could be forgiven for thinking that Beach was a light and airy white floral.

The sand accord in Beach is not unlike Dior's Dune for Women. I like both of these fragrances, and much prefer them over and above other beach related scents, ones that resemble the synthetic smell of suntan lotion and cheap, fake tans.

The drydown does have the tendency to smell a little bit like sunscreen, however to my trained nose, I realise that it's only the scent of creamy jasmine blending with the warm sand.

I've only recently moved to a suburb close to the beach, and since Summer is not far away, I'm eager to test Bobbi Brown's Beach in the surroundings that it was intended for. Many reviewers are saying that Beach smells a lot like Coppertone Suntan Lotion. I'm an Australian, so I'm not familiar with that product.

The sillage is fairly soft, however I found the lasting strength reasonably impressive. It lasted a good four hours on my skin. I recommend.

aristouka

Yeah, yeah! Coppertone suntan oil in perfume!!!
Why not!? I love to smell like i have just come back from a lovely day at the beach, and sun has been captured in my skin leaving me warm and happy, smelling like my suntan oil but clean just out of the shower and not feeling itchy from the salt on my skin after swimming!!!...that's BEACH for me!
(i will add and the appropriate song for this perfume if i am allowed... TEXAS-Summer Son)
For those who looooove summer and those who looooove Coppertone!
It lasts......and lasts...

Majesty

A very realistic 'sandy' scent, just sand and sea water on my skin. It reminded me of Bourjois Shower Gel Sable Blanc! It doesn't remind me of suntan lotion,it's not sweet or cloying,it smells like warm sand and sea waves! There's a whole line behind this perfume, body lotion, shower gel and body scrub, which accompanies Bobbi's Beach. Warm salty skin and hot sun, that's Bobbi's Beach perfume. Great longevity!!!

NikkiChantel

I am really wanting a bottle of this, and if anyone has one they do not want, I would be willing to trade, providing I have what you want to trade for. This scent really and truly reminds me of the old Coppertone suntan lotion. Brings back many memories.

sofababe

This smells nothing like the beaches where I live, on the North Sea coast of England, where the sea is a suspicious shade of browny-grey and no-one sets foot on the beach due to the lack of sand and over abundance of stones and litter.
BUT.....it does smell like a tropical, white sand, clear water holiday type beach. Thank Goodness.
I never really noticed that sand had a smell, but this fragrance definitely reminds of a hot sand, the kind that you can't walk barefoot on as its so hot from the tropical sun. Its salty, sharp and I really like it very much. it was a blind buy (I really should stop doing that!) but a very successful one. Summer is finally looking like its arrived in England and "Beach" is perfect for tricking the mind that I'm in a much nicer place than I am in reality.

katemcq

This is not a typical perfume. My positive reaction to it is because I love being reminded of the beach. It's taking advantage of my memories to fool me into thinking it's a good perfume.... or maybe it is a good perfume? It is impossible to know for sure.

The scent itself is extremely synthetic which, granted, much sunscreen is. It's a bit strong on the salty and chemical notes, but the overall effect isn't unpleasant.

It's what I'd consider a great novelty perfume and great for when you need a change from the day to day.

lalaland

I do like this scent, but i find that it can easily smell like sunscreeen to me. I do like it, though...

Aspendina

whoa! holy moly this might be the best beach scent ever, VERY nice and VERY true beach scent. I maybe be adding this to my wish list.

karlee79

One word for this awesomeness and it is " coppertone"!!!!!

dkny27

Went with the body oil on this one.... Compared to the EDP the body oil is richer, not to mention moisturizing, and the texture is reminiscent of the original application of the scent, which was "apply while on a warm sunny beach"! This is sand and sun and beachy goodness. There's no other way to translate. I can't imagine wearing this for anything other than warm, sun kissed days of summer....

Margarita1982

I bought it today and i love it!!summer in a bottle

SarahSk

I have to agree with those who say, "Coppertone!!!" I am a child of the 70's and 80's and remember the scent very well, having been a regular at our local pool. It has a salty/briny undertone that is subtle enough to be refreshing, and some floral notes (I don't recognize different florals very well; I know what I like but can't elaborate on it). I find the scent nostalgic, essential summer in a bottle, free and warm, definitely not to be worn in any other season because it is SO summery. It would smell out of place in any other season, so since I have other fragrances, why fight it?

LaUna

This does NOT smell like a beach at all, but rather like wallpaint/cleaner/floral mixup.
The initial impression is waaaaay toooo much!

It slightly mellows to strong jasmin and floor cleaner scent. Utter disaster. Good thing I only purchased a tiny tester.

Coppertone spf lotions from 80's and 90's smell whole lot better than this weird thing called Beach?

If you like this and want a much cheaper version try Suntan by Demeter, it's an exact copy of each other.

SS79

WOW! Found this today in the mall.. and well it smells IDENTICLE to Jennifer Aniston's perfume! (which I already own) I cannot belive it! So if you can' tfind this or its too expensive I would go for JA.
