This reminds me of my dad shaving and getting ready to work when I was a kid, like a barber shop when I'm done getting my shave and hair cut. The smell is very true to the name . It started off aromatic and manly fresh. Then the leather and musk really comes out. The geranium, rosemary, musk and leather are the strongest notes you will smell. But it's all very smooth . All together after the initial top notes it smells a lot like shaving cream. Like a very aromatic shaving foam with a classy old school leather note. To me the leather smells like an old dark brown broken in leather cushions on a barber chair. It's fresh herbal aromatic and leather . With just hints of everything else . Then kre I wear this the more I like it. I fortunately it's discontinued so I'm hoping I can eventually get a bottle .
Performance is not the greatest . Projects for maybe an hour and a half. On the skin for maybe 4 hours .

This has cracked into my top 10 fave scents and I love this scent and just barbershop fragrances in general !!

At the barbers opens up very herbal, musky, green, sharp and loud and in that first 30 minutes on my skin is a room filler beastly scent !! In fact, for those reasons I avoid any public settings where I’m in close proximity of people as I can see this being abrasive ! Also in the opening I sense a mix between Drakkar noir and Platinum Egoist

However once this dries down the the magic really starts with this and it becomes a much more subtle scent that is very reminiscent of the smells you get from the barbershop with the mix of high quality shaving cream, hair product and those expensive leather seats ! At this stage it really embodies the smell and VIBE of a barber shop rather than smelling like a barbershop scent itself.

The drydown is pretty much the same except it does down to a very nice skin scent that is still very pleasant and aromatic but then the tonka bean comes in making this even more smooth and even slightly creamy. The drydown is by far my favorite part as all the harshness has died down and it’s just extremely pleasing to the nose and to all age ranges as well. (This could be a negative to those hoping for a more brash, intense type of barbershop fragrance experience) but for me with barbershop scents I like them to be more subtle and gentlemanly rather than super aggressive and bold.

Performance on this is great as it lasts 8-12 hours but keep in mind after 3 hours it’s a skin scent but will come alive in high temperatures and when you move around. Sillage is only light but noticeable after an hour and not super thick but rather airy and light.

Overall rating -8.5 out of 10 !! A superb scent that is easily my most complimented in terms of barbershop scents and has been well received by all ages as well and not just mature noses. A beautiful blend of both old school and modern style barbershop styles scents.

I have this and Platinum Egoiste. I love and really enjoy both, although they share similarities they are very different in how they behave. To my nose PE is louder and more herbal. ATB is more subtle & soapy, the leather makes it more elegant & classy in the dry down. ATB could is very much office safe, first date or anywhere where you don't want to be too loud. Both are loves for me as I said and I don't consider them redundent. As my taste has changed over the last few years I do prefer a more subtle scent bubble and can find myself feeling self-conscious when I wear something loud around others, having said that I prefer ATB for most scenarios. I believe this has been discontinued but it can still be found. Thinking about getting a back up soon.

Dannenils

It's quite good but does not last that long. It's not at all close to platinum egoiste. Where do all People get that from? For me if its close to something It's Dior sauvage.

joshuabrian

DISCONTINUED! Get a bottle before the prices fly up!

Anabol2336

Reminds me of several fragrances my dad had back in the 90s. Stuff like Van Cleef Tsar, Platinum Egoiste, Eternity, Drakkar Noir etc. I really love it. This one and Beach Hut Man are probably my two favorite green fragrances at the moment.

archerries

It undoubtedly smells like shaving foam. Clear black pepper, basil, lavender and rosemary, —a vibrant, masculine scent. I would absolutely love to smell this on a man. It's so warm, peppery and inviting.

benkim

Classic yet modern. Barbershop. Forgettable.

This starts off rather modernized concept of clean man - walking out of the house in the morning after cleanly shaving the face. The top was promising, but dries down quickly to a typical fougere - Drakkar Noir with more of sweeter musk and more herbal (I don't have Drakkar Noir anymore).
At the price you can acquire At the Barber's, there are so many options that are either more interesting, or more affordable, or both.

uhohstinky

Is it great…meh. Do l enjoy it yes. It’s not going blow anyone way with projection and sillage, most fougeres don’t but it’s an easy wear. You get the orange citrus and black pepper in the opening, lavender,a slight minty note from the rosemary in the mid and musk, moss, leather and tonka in the base. Sits close to the skin after about the 3-4 hr mark and at that point it’s very fresh and clean. The price point on this is high for what you get. I have other barbershop fougeres that are half the price and perform better. Overall I do like it and I can see myself wearing this fragrance from time to time.

delancy

I love barbershop and fougere frags so I was extremely eager to test a sample of this. Unfortunately, it was a major letdown for me personally, and I really do believe that this is overrated for its price point.

I definitely don't dislike ATB, but when it comes down to it: this really is just an inferior blend of Platinum Egoiste and Drakkar Noir. I'd rather just buy PE and/or DN.

Also, I actually do agree with the review below that compares this to Armaf Legesi (which I do not like, a cheap-smelling "kinda clone" of Platinum Egoiste). At The Barbers and Legesi don't smell identical, but they really do share some similarities especially in a "Drakkar Noir" kind of way. Which is hilarious as Legesi retails for $19, and ATB retails for $160. There is a distinct gap in quality between the two, don't get me wrong, but seriously, you really are better off just buying Legesi over ATB if you specifically want this Platinum Egoiste mixed with Drakkar Noir blend that ATB delivers.

I like niche fragrances, they make up a fair amount of my collection. But this is a really good example of the fragrance community unnecessarily paying niche prices for something that has been better executed in designer fragrances.

Edit: Also, what on earth is going on with that positively upvoted "reminds me of" comparison to YSL Rive Gauche. I "get" the comparisons here to Platinum Egoiste and Drakkar Noir (not that ATB smells identical at all to those two), but come on, on what planet does ATB smell anything remotely like Rive Gauche...?

Jesse101

At the barbers is exactly what it’s advertised. It smells like you’re at the barber shop and just got a clean shave and a trim. It encapsulates the feeling and confidence you have for the rest of the day. This fragrance smells to me like the best shaving foam you’ve ever smelled. (Such a shame it’s being discontinued)

Starlightus

My favorite barbershop cologne ever, I got 3 bottles of this stuff.

Dimmuburger

Smells like the first time your pop took you to his barbershop. Awesome fougere, wish it had a bit more longevity. Wait until you can find it for around $85-88.

PaddyOhFraiche

Meh, it's not bad but nothing special. It’s a typical brut clubman pinaud smelling aftershave scent that lasts about 3-4 hrs. Not worth the price. This is the most masculine smelling of the replica's I've tried but I still prefer whispers in the library which leans perfectly unisex.

Steven221283

Just a heads up that a rep on the MM stand in Harrods confirmed that this is discontinued. So if you like it, you should grab one soon before they all go.

Anyway, this is your classic fougere barbershop scent. Something off-putting in it for me though, possibly the basil or rosemary (or both). As barbershop fougeres go, I much prefer MFK Masculin Pluriel, and Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme even more so.

A.Brock

Very similar to Chanel Egoiste Platinum. The Chanel though is much brighter, fresher and sharper and probably outperforms it overall

joy-lang

One of my first decants in this hobby, sprayed a little bit on paper and it slightly splashed into my hand. Has a very strong opening that mantains throughout the day. Unfortunately not exactly my type of fragrance, as I kept smelling my hand I remember who used to wear this a lot (an annoying customer at my last job) and couldn't get past that impression. Had to throw out the testing sheet as the scent projected like crazy on my room. Nauseating for me.

dreamyseashell

I honestly detest this. I could have sworn I liked it a few years ago, so either my tastes have changed or my sample is horribly expired. I find this nauseating, like someone is spraying luxury shaving cream into your mouth. The dry down is okay, but the opening is not worth it for me.

Sabreena

Strong opening note of shaving cream that lasts about a half hour before calming down to a lovely warm spicy base. It’s so sexy and inviting. Lavender and Basil are the most dominant notes for me. Definitely leans more masculine but it’s appealing on everyone. New favorite for my wife to wear. Overall 10/10 so many people would love this fragrance.

Stinky whiskey Buttons

Airy Fresh, like a barbershop dream, well blended and should be a buy for everyone that loves Fougere and barbershop, not to soapy...not to spicy.. mild and soft, perfect for summer and when you want to smell clean in a old aftershave whey wit a modern touch and finess, for those that dont want it to screechy or loud, it smells expensive in a subtle way
Good amount off tonka in this tho, so tonka bean haters be Cassius .

Professor Value

Perfume rating 3.81 out of 5 with 1,269 votes?!?!?! Who's kiddin' who? This is hands down one of the best barbershop fragrances, and I've tried the overwhelming majority of them. It's classy while being versatile. It's in the same league as Fougere Royale, Rive Gauche, and Platinum Egoiste. Maybe if people actually believe that insanely low rating for ATB the prices will start to come down. Highly recommend.

tailoredshirt

I adore this. It's very crisp and clean; shaving foam and leather chairs. I love wearing this in the office, especially during the summer when I can't tolerate sweet scents. One spray on my chest lasts on me all day.

I also purchased Pinaud Clubman and Clubman Vanilla recently, and At the Barber's is a dead ringer for Clubman Vanilla (with added leather).

whiskeyntobacco

The most interesting thing about this one apart from everything said in reviews is how it transforms on the skin after a long day of sun, light sweat. When I hug my husband in the late evening, I get major linden blossoms smell. We drink a lot of linden tea in Northern Europe, and I love the cosiness this fragrance creates with specific skin chemistries.

Apart from that, I am happy that I managed to get my hands on this before it is sold out everywhere after it was discontinued. As a woman, I wear this a lot in the hottest summer days.
If you can find it, grab it, it is mostly on sale now.

JLaw7

Classic soapy fresh men’s aftershave

Krisena

Not my style of barbershop. I like the ones with tonka at the base.

This is so similar to Chanel's Platinum Egoiste that you should probably just get Platinum Egoiste.

aKa_anthrax

So for starters, out of all the Replicas I've tried(everything except Music Festival and the older discontinued ones) this is the only one that imo nails the "memory in a bottle" concept, but probably just because it's specifically replicating a scent. Anyways, this is not a safe blind buy imo, and also the only Replica frag that is so overtly masculine, and def took me a bit to get used to, it smells like straight shaving cream at first, and not particularly high end shaving cream, however, after wearing it a few times it clicked for me, I could start smelling the amalgamation of individual notes present, it's a really interesting deconstruction of the concept of shaving cream by way of distilling it into certain individual aspects, extremely Margiela. I like it a decent amount now, it's my go to to just wear if I'm around the house and want to smell nice, however, something about the drydown I dislike and it's what keeps me from wearing it out or buying a full bottle, it's just weirdly sour, and makes me want to immediately scrub it off, unfortunate as overall it's a good scent.

wenf

100% aftershave. Very overpriced for what it is.

1uckynumb3r

On a whole the smell is a mix of Chanel Platinum Egoiste/Calvin Klein Eternity edp(dark green juice) with a Prada Luna Rossa Carbon/Penhaligon's Sartorial vibe in the background.
It's a nice barbershop type of a fragrance, made in a modern style, not dated. Isn't the best in that category but was a pleasant surprise(it was a blind buy-a small 10 ml vial from notino for just 12 euro).
On a scale from 1 to 10 i'll give a 7.5

mateuszolech072

I think that it is a perfect replacement for Rive Gauche. At the Barber’s is modern and very well balanced barbershop scent where for example Beau de Jour is unapologetically herbal and strong on lavender, this one is smooth and much more pleasant. Don’t get me wrong BdJ is great, but personally go my taste Replica is closer to RG which is even superior. I don’t think that it is discontinued, it is available on many places and also on the Margiela website.

bradsapho

God damn i love this so much and it's discontinued now. Truly one of the great barbershop fragrances.

pakistanstar

Every man deserves to be pampered. Those who can truly appreciate a fresh shave with a straight razor will reap the benefits. At The Barber's should be reserved for such occasion. For the times when you have to suit up and bring the missus along as arm candy. Her smile doesn't stop all night because she knows how the night ends already. Thankfully my boss' wife shared that enthusiasm. Don't worry sir you'll have her back safely in the morning.

stinkfrog

Pretty much redundant at the price if you already have Drakkar Noir or Lomani pour homme in your collection 🤷🏻♂️

CNCxFRAGHEAD

@Ro1618 & anyone that loves this fragrance. Dapper Fragrances has a dupe of this, it's nuclear AND it's at a great discount.Thank me later

Stephen N

I have a longstanding love of barbershop fragrances, so I was eager to try a sample of this. It's not a bad fragrance at all; it's got the same sort of fresh/spicy style you would find in many barbershop fragrances, with decent projection and durability.

So why are they charging so much a fragrance that smells like it shouldn't cost more than $20 at the most?

Serasmellsgood

There's something seductive about this. Like I'm willing to risk it all if a guy wears this. Deep, sensual lavender, with a clean soapy accord. YUM!

btd069

Herbal, Menthol Shaving Cream Fougere Scent. Smells, as the name would imply, of a fresh clean shave. Lots of typical fougere ingredients including Lavender, Rosemary & Basil. The Mintiness seems to be coming from the Geranium. The Leather is not very prominent as is more of a Clean Suede rather than the likes Ombre Leather, Tuscan Leather or Godolphin. The Musk is of the White Musk Variety, very clean and not heavy.

Presentation is minimalist which is typical of the Replica line and the juice is has an extremely light tint to it. Longevity is 4-6 hours, so not that great. I like this smell very much and it smells clean and smooth. Projection is good for about an hour then it settles down and gets closer to the skin without being a skin scent until a few. hours later. The concentration seems to be decent cause I can see an oily sheen on my skin for awhile after spraying.

This is worth it at discounters for $90 or less, but would say that it's not at the $160 retail price. This is a top 5 favorite from the line right behind Jazz. Club, By The Fireplace & Whispers In The Library IMO.

spcmiller

I just noticed this was out of stock @ Sephora and Nordstrom. Can anyone confirm that this is discontinued or simply temporarily out of stock?

gxbjw

I’m gonna keep it short and sweet; Just go for Armaf’s Legesi which literally shares the same DNA to this.

Legesi’s performance is better and the price is 1/5 of At The Barber’s. Yes, At The Barber’s’ quality superior, but not worth USD100 at the discounters, let alone retail.

Pass.

HoneySmoke889

I am a woman and I used to love wearing this fragrance during my early 20s. I told my friend I wanted a fragrance that smelled like cologne and leather to remind me of my dad and she found this for me. I specifically wanted to relive the memory of hugging my dad before church, freshly shaved wearing his leather jacket. It was perfect! So warm, nostalgic, and beautifully masculine. When I wear it I feel enveloped in a cloud of masculine protection. Funny enough, when I met my husband he didn't like it for himself. He likes to wear fresher scents. I might get a bottle again for myself just for the nostalgia and comfort.

MKnocker

Perfect after shower lounge around the house I just want to smell clean fragrance. This also works well for the office. Performance is fine especially given how you should use it. It is not a date night or clubbing fragrance. You wear this for yourself. It doesn’t need to be a beast. It does lounge day to perfection and is decently priced. I will always have a bottle in my collection.

arizonaruby

Fresh, spicy, green aromatic. Loads of basil, orange, lavender and rosemary. Perfect for a clear spring day. Would also be very office friendly as it’s quite clean and fresh and the sillage isn’t massive.

Rob1618

I love this SO much. And I want it to work SO badly. But the performance, the Sillage, the projection, it’s just not there. While Bleecker St by Bond No9 isn’t the same exactly, it’s close enough in that it’s aromatic, and it’s able to project enough that it can leave a cloud. So I know that fresh aromatics can work for me, but this one just doesn’t have that reach or the longevity to make me over the moon with it

DapperDon

Smells like Barbasol & aftershave!
I own Platinum Egoïste & At The Barbers.
The main difference between PE & ATB is that PE is much sharper, metallic and more herbal. I also find PE to be cleaner smelling where ATB is warmer & has that aftershave spice.
I now have a 2015 bottle & it smells completely different form the newer batches- where the newer is more light & airy, the older is deeper & a lot warmer. Almost like how hair clippers smell when you’re cleaning them with the oil after a fresh warm cut.
Old batch Not sexy by any means. Newer ones clean & somewhat attractive.
Overall: this is Platinum Egoiste with added tonka bean to tone down the sharpness while also adding a bit of depth, creaminess & sweetness.

mj13

Really love this stuff, discontinued I believe, so I use it sparingly. Great longevity for me about 7 hrs till its a faint memory. I agree with the comment below mine, fresh & clean cut never goes out of style.

Vicschmidtscents

This is the best blind buy gift for a man. I've gifted this to a few men and they've all really liked it. 'At The Barbers' is such a fun and perfect name too. It's that classic and nostalgic mens scent that we've all smelt before. Fresh and clean-cut will never go out of style.

Fragaddict123

Barbershop fragrances are a tricky thing
And the variety that is available In the market is massive
Meaning that any brand that sells a barbershop scent with a higher price than most will definitely suffer the consequences
This one is a victim of the high price tag
It’s a very good fougere but not distinct or special enough to buy
It reminded me of azzaro pour homme and it’s a lot cheaper than this one
I understand the theme they are trying to portray but if you can’t bring something special most costumers will choose more affordable alternatives
I enjoyed wearing it but it’s not worth it

ca$hm3re

A warm sophisticated leathery soap. My boyfriend's favourite fragrance. It is very classy to me and classic.
|It doesn't break any records for uniqueness but it is really good at what is does, and has excellent longevity for an EDT. Projection is decent too. It is very comforting and warm, with a distinct soap smell after a while. But it is definitely a masculine scent with the leathery notes balancing that clean soap. It gives off big d*** energy, because it doesn't try to be too hard or announce itself. It's also not something you come across day to day on men unlike Sauvage or Bleu de Chanel (which I like don't get me wrong). But this is just for the grown men out there (you won’t catch little boys wearing this). Is it just effortlessly sexy and masculine. If young men out there are wanting to feel more grown then they should definitely get this.

MK_Fraghead696

Love this fragrance so much.I layered this with CREED Green Irish tweed and the compliments I get is outrageous.

iszzieanna

A quintessential, everyday fragrance. Opens fresh, clean and spicy. Dries down to a lavender musk. This fragrance also needs versatile for layering.

LittleSir

Tried this on today at a shop.
Smells very pleasant right away.
Quickly reminds me of Eternity EDT. But only the soapy part of Eternity, that I like. It does not have the metallic part of Eternity, that I don't really like.
But much higher quality.
So, it's pretty nice. Clean, soapy/shaving cream and linear.

cdgodard

There are other barbershop fragrances that last longer and I enjoy more. Beau De Jour by Tom Ford is more expensive, but per wear (given the number of sprays you'll need to smell like the fragrance, I think it's a much better deal.

Martin014

They really replicated so good the name of the fragrance. My brother handed me a paper with this fragrance without me knowing what fragrance was in the paper, and when I smelled it the first thing that came into my mind was a barbershop

dpark

Very nice fragrance. Reminds me a ton of Rogue’s Bon Monsieur, but lighter and soapier, with more citrus in the opening. Where Bon Monsieur comes off authentically throwback, this comes off as a modernized recreation. Lighter, slightly sweeter. Easier to wear, but also a bit lower performance in terms of duration and projection. Still very decent performance.

Colognewizz

Great everyday freshie if you just want to feel clean and smell like a man. Basically smells like shaving foam in a cologne form. Great on winter months but could be used all year round. pretty much an expensive version of drakkar noir

Naoto

No gimmicks here - it smells like posh shaving form (hence the name "At The Barber's") and that's it! It makes you feel that you've been back from a barber shop.

EspenE

What a great and pleasant scent. Fresh smell that you can use as a everday fragrance

bradsapho

As a younger man, i've had several compliments on this from people i wouldn't usually get them from. Ok, it's been done before, but it's genuinely one of the most pleasant friendly smells there is on the market. Performance isn't amazing, i personally layer it with body shop's white musk for men, which works surprisingly well.

Aus11n

Opening started off nice but quickly dries down to an herbal mess. Basil rosemary and oak moss overpower the other notes by far.

Lykopa

This scent reminds me of Penhaligon’s! It is really well blended, and I think it would smell great on any guy. The lavender, basil, and rosemary notes make themselves known, and its really nice and fresh. I find this scent so intriguing!

Remmel

Yep, it's a barbershop, alright. Starts with a strong blast of Barbasol shaving cream that's calmed eventually with powdery florals and herbal notes. About a half an hour into it, a hint of vanilla reveals itself as well. One of my absolute favorites from the Replica line. It's not something I'd wear myself, I find it too masculine, but I'd love it on someone else.

yakup

I most certainly wouldn´t recommend you invest money in this fragrance if you want to smell sexy and appealing. I love the smell and the whole barber shop aesthetic but you just won´t get any good ladies reactions. Apart from that: decent performance and I´d say that this is one of the most masculine fragrances I´ve ever smelled. The leather, lavender and musk just turn any boy to a man.

likesleet

at the barbers: i thought this would smell like jazz club or by the fireplace for whatever reason. beauty products for men smell

FlirtBoy

looking at the votes I am a bit cofused...so...does it smell like Platinum Egoiste? Drakkar? Rive Gauche? I understand the shaving association, but these mentioned above are not too much alike tbh...

JoeyC

Pleasant, clean shaving cream smell on the top. Definitely a masculine fragrance. Not a whole lot of variation from that shaving cream smell - very one-dimensional but not necessarily bad. Slightly leather on the dry down. I would say it improves as it dries and the leather comes through much more clearly.

It does smell quite like a generic “M E N ’ S” body wash at first. Actually it reminds me of how my dad used to smell. Or like how I remember those green Irish Spring bars of soap smelling in my childhood.

Not something I’d wear but I don’t hate it by any means. It is a very nostalgic scent to me for the above reasons.

Glad I got this in a sample vial !

BigJarOfHoney

Uff This perfume is something beautiful.

At the barbers

It's morning .
Late spring, buds are visible on leafy trees.
It is cool and the dew collects on the grass and flowers.
Slicked hair and dark sunglasses, a newspaper under his arm and a croissant with butter in his other hand.
He is biting and chewing a croissant and the crumbs remain on his lips, the smell of coffee can be felt on his breath.
He pushes open the brass door and enters the simple barbershop.
One barber is already shaving a customer, while another turns a large brown leather chair and invites him to sit down.
He sits down and the ritual begins...
The barber puts a warm towel on his face, then
expertly whips up shaving cream in a wooden bowl.
After a few minutes he removes the warm towel from his face and applies shaving cream.
A razor flies across his face while Italian music plays on the radio.

The smell of the barbershop.
The smell of leather, the smell of expensive shaving cream.
A creamy powdery fragrance, fresh, full of optimism and lavender.
Citrus is present in the background at least for me, but spices like pepper are felt.
Moss and tonka beans are there... everything exudes masculinity and purity.
A perfume that you can wear anytime and anywhere.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 7/10 Performance of the perfume - its duration is usually more than 8 hours or more, it depends on the weather conditions, it stays on the clothes even longer.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 8/10 Perfume rating - in my opinion, this perfume can never leave my collection. Beautiful and wonderful, which makes you want to smell it on your skin.

Made by Kouros

FIRST IMPRESSION: I quite like this. Why not, it's like they aimed at "ultimate barbershop", a genre I enjoy. Good effort. Lovely fresh shaving cream opening. Where should a barbershop dry down to? This goes to light, still a bit fresh leather, like a leather chair. That's a good choice to me, and lends this uniqueness. Long lasting too.

FINAL VERDICT after 3 full wears: I really like this! Feels so fresh & soapy clean, yet interesting and manly, pleasant, versatile 24/7/365. I pick out some basil and lavender, but it's all well blended. It dries down to some bitter leather but is quite linear in that it's very recognizable all the way through. And it lasts the whole day. Great longevity, which for me makes it beat eg. current formulation of Drakkar Noir (which I really enjoy). So even though this one is way more expensive, I might still grab a bottle.

nocturnelle.1

Everyone saying this is inferior to other fougeres, and that may be true, but as a woman I find this easiest to pull off. There’s something rounder and sweeter about it. This is refreshing in a way that isn’t the usual citrus or aquatic. Well, not usual to me anyway, since I don’t shave my face. Maybe I should just slather myself in a can of Gillette when this runs out. Would be a lot cheaper.

ishootlikeaking

Ngl this fragrance on my skin kind of reminds me of raid, the bug spray that kills ants. Not really my thing, I admit I bought it because it smelled clean and like aftershave on the test strip at sephora but I was pretty disappointed it didn’t perform well on my skin.

This is my fav style, listed notes very much appeal to me & bought a full bottle blind. I did & still do like it but there’s something a bit off putting to me. It’s hard to describe but I will offer my opinion for anyone who’s interested in trying this style. My favorites are Citoyen by Galimard (edp or parfum), Platinum Egoist by Chanel & the best of them is Garrigue by MPG.

Trishaaa

This smelt exactly like a hair gel and shaving cream which I guess is perfectly on par with its name. I thought it was nice but I feel it could have been amped up a bit here to have some more strength and character to it. Little bit basic to be anything majorly good but it's a perfectly fine fragrance.

jeannebelmondo

Expensive and more "well-blended" take on the classic Gilette shaving cream/aftershave scent. The opening is incredibly herbal and minty fresh, to where it gives a menthol-y feeling in my nose when I breathe in, and the ivory soap clinical feeling is very much welcome because it does make it truly smell like, well, a barbershop. Unfortunately after a while that plain white soap bar feeling takes over entirely, and I'm left craving the lavender and basil that left so fleetingly. I was craving the lavender because it's having such a comeback in feminine fragrances lately but I only got a few minutes of it.

Very squeaky-clean, inoffensive and easily likable. I'll stick to just stealing my boyfriend's deodorant though, it's not really a remarkable scent.

Docplaya

I have been testing At the Barbers and Platinum Egoiste. ATB opens with citrus and spice. This gives it a more palatable scent to the modern nose. In contrast, PE opens with a sharp herbal note. The dry downs are very similar. PE is more elegant and colder with that metallic accord. Interesting enough, with the mix of lavender and that metallic accord, PE is better able to “replicate” a barbershop vibe. I really like both but find myself reaching for ATB more. Seems like ATB can be a casual or formal scent, whereas PE is more formal. PE has slightly better longevity and projection. I’ll probably buy a bottle of ATB and get a decant of PE for more formal events. BTW, neither one is a true compliment getter from the ladies.

Update:
My opinion of ATB has not changed too much with time. However, my opinion of Platinum Egoiste has really elevated. In addition, Platinum Egoiste is better priced. I now own both bottles but if I had to do it over again, I would just bypass ATB.

EddieGravity

Smells like a can of shaving cream in the opening to the mid notes! Old skool barbershop aromatic fougere. A classic fragrance your dad would likely have smelled like after coming home with a fresh shave from the barber’s. It’s only flaw? The dry down. It dries down to a subtle unimpressive leather. It doesn’t last very long either considering the price.

It’s discontinued, and some discounter websites still sell this. Don’t pay a ridiculous amount of money for this. There are actually a lot of similar smelling aromatic fougeres out there that smell better. Consider those as a purchase option unless you have a personal love for At The Barber’s.

margielaenthusiast

smells like shaving cream and like the teenage boys at my school who douse themselves in generic cologne to be mature

lihsinhsu

To me this is just another men's fougere fragrance. I suppose it's pleasant, but unoriginal.

ayken

Oh god, I don't know if I should add my comment on this but oh well, this is a big no for me. Yes for you if you want to smell like male-targeted hygiene products- go for it. SMells very minty and like a shower gel to me so that is why I couldn't take it. At some point I liked it but also I hated it at the same time.

Zactel

Extremely similar to chanel’s platinum egoiste. Funnily chanel’s platinum egoiste is cheaper and came out first in the early 90’s. I would go for platinum egoiste or maybe a clone like armaf legasi which is 20-30$, if you love this house then go for it. The scent obviously is really good and is the perfect fragrance for a man who gets a haircut every 2-4 weeks hence the name of the fragrance.

Frangipanilove

Another non descript but perfectly pleasant, inoffensive offering from the Replica range. If you like these notes but want a quality version I recommend Guerlain’s La Cologne du Parfumeur. Soft aromatic lavender cologne, but one that is sophisticated whereas Replica is the synthetic version of the same idea.

karinevandal

It smells literally like the old green speed stick from the 90’s or the classic Gilette shaving cream (which is 100% true to the name of the fragrance)… it actually reminds me of my father..

..I wouldn’t want my men to smell like this tho.

But again, MM nailed it, recreating realistic scent « at the barber shop »

Stacer Vaughn

A simple, fresh, clean, lavender barbershop fragrance that shows a little bit of leather as it dries down. I prefer this to ones that lean too into the citrus. This isn’t a complicated fragrance with a crazy amount going on, but it’s plain good. In the same vain as stuff like Platinum Egoiste or Masculine Pluriel.

Not the best longevity, I get about 4-6 hours depending on the day but this is a great casual fragrance that will pretty much work for any occasion. Dress it up or down.

dmw

Margiela's Replica At the Barber is both what I had expected and not.

There's a fairly green opening, and soon, something a little metallic in there as the lavender and then the musk starts to dominate, but as it dries down, it becomes more vague and atmospheric, and I mean that in a good way: it's like the atmosphere of the barber's rather than a cologne, if you know what I mean. It's not actually a traditional fougère, rather it is what it says - a replica of the scent of the barbershop, which includes that type of scent but isn't the only aspect.

I really like it, and I think it's one of the few of the Replica range that actually achieves its goal of creating the impression of a memory. Maybe the barbershop was an easy target, but this still hits the bullseye.

Ahm93

Been wanting to sample this. Sampled it just now on a scent strip. Fell in love at first whiff... Kept the scent strip and an hour later took it out again. Smelled awfully familiar - then figured out that it was similar to my dad's Aramis Adventurer's drydown. Not sure what the other Aramis scents smell like in particular but can someone confirm that this dries down at least a little bit (to me, it was almost unmistakeable) like Aramis?

strongerwithglue

Smells like the cleaning solution barbers use to clean the hair clippers. Very nice. Very fresh.

ski808

I was sold at first whiff! Having never owned any niche fragrances before this, I'm glad I managed to come across this beauty before taking dabs that a ways. Some have considered this to be of semi-niche designer quality. And it is sooo addictive, I can't stop smelling it! It is not so much of a barber type fragrance, but it captures the nuances of it in a very sophisticated manner. I like how this and the rest of the Replica range doesn't possess the offensive sillage of the usual beastly niche fragrances. The layers are extremely impressive and well thought out, but the sillage remains mindful of it's space at the same time. Why would we want to attract unwanted attention? I had also recently purchased Lazy Sunday Morning for the girlie, never regretted it, and I practically jump to have a quick snog every time she passes by LOL! Impressive work by Louise Turner. I believe, ATB will be my new signature scent!

L.Margaret

When I first got, felt regret buying but after getting used to, quite like it.

Strong scent of male perfume but after top notes faded it gives unique, masculine-ish and fresh smell.
My friend didnt quite like it from the bottle but after the scent blended to my body temp and other factors, she with feminine preferences, loves to smell my perfume so much.

jayanna

reminds me of my dad :)

erika.isme.98

If you hug a friendly man who is extremely well-groomed and he's wearing an expensive jacket, he might smell like this to you.

Lavender and leather are the main notes I smell. It's sweet, warm, and clean. Replica NAILED THIS. Definite barber shop vibes! I like it.

L0vejoy

English Laundry Notting Hill smells exactly the same for 12 bucks at TJ Maxx / Burlington

michaeld2986

I'm a fan of fougere fragrances as I see them as classic and timeless. However, I find 'At the Barber' being more of a dumb reach. I own a full bottle and I've used most of it. I like it, but I'm not sure I'd invest in buying another bottle once I'm out. I also own 'Beau de Jour' by Tom Ford and it seems have better longevity and performance.

ckorp8

Just okay for me. Tried comparing this with Egoiste and ATB was totally drowned out. Totally no comparable.

dear,prudence

I bought a sampler of Replica perfumes. While testing them, for several of the perfumes the only note I wrote was "soapy". This is one of those.

JonniePatron

This is my second review of At The Barbers. This is a real nice representation of a modern day barbershop fragrance. Spice and leather verses the heavy lavender opening of most fougere / barbershop scents. A more refined modern day Drakkar Noir.

For comparisons to other barbershop fragrances.
Beau De Jour (my favorite) has way more lavender
Rive Gauche is more rich and creamy.

At the Barbers is definitely a more dumb reach and wearable barbershop fragrance than the other two. I really enjoy this right out of the shower or during the day with jeans and a white T.

Note: I’m 41 and my wife is 42. She usually hates barbershop fragrances because of the old man vide but she likes At the Barbers.

samialeigh

This reminds me of the old Adidas - Moves Her cologne. It's pleasant but I've smelt it before and for a cheaper price.

VinceChi1178

I suppose if you spray a fragrance called "At The Barber's" you shouldn't be surprised that you smell like shaving cream for the rest of the day, right? There's just no mistaking it -- this one is 100% a barbershop fougere through and through.

And I quite like it. It's clean, classic, inoffensive. It's not trying to reinvent the wheel. It's giving you what the name promises, and the performance is rather good. Yes, it falls into the same camp as many other fragrances, but there's a reason houses still crank out these barbershop scents. They just work.

The problem with their popularity, however, is that any one fragrance needs to really do some heavy lifting to stand out from the pack. This is a solid offering in the category, but I just don't think it would ever be the first thing I reach for when I'm in the mood for this scent profile.

Alas, it's a pass.

Starlight_moon

This smells exactly like your typical aftershave cologne. And unfortunately in this case, this is quite a long-lasting scent that will follow you all day. There is nothing unsex about this fragrance, it's 100% male.

Mariyamokshina

Wow. Get it off me ! Cheap aftershave

Pi1980

JmThms

I just got my full bottle in after owning a decant for several months. I haven't worn it since last winter, and smelling it now for the first time in months, I'm surprised. I didn't realize how similar At the Barbers is in scent profile to the group of CK Eternity/Drakkar Noir/MontBlanc Legend/A&F Fierce/Chanel Platinum Egoiste. I guess the reason for that is because maybe I smelled At the Barbers before I acquired Drakkar Noir, CK Eternity, Chanel Platinum Egoiste, and the MontBlanc. So I didn't make that association. Interesting. It's that similar shared "metallic" accord. And it IS there in At the Barbers. Now, I will have to reevaluate At the Barbers given that scent profile. And I will have to downgrade my opinion of this in that light. I don't think this is the best scent profile representation of a quintessential "barbershop" fougere. I think a better representation is found in these fragrances in my collection: Tom Ford Beau de Jour, Penhaligon Sartorial, Tom Ford Fougere D'Argent, YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme, MDCI Invasion Barbare, Azzaro Pour Homme, Davidoff Zino, Avon Wild Country and a few others. In other words, the perfumer here for At the Barbers didn't nail it. Missed it a bit. It's a good fragrance and it will fit into my "barbershop" fougere collection, but just not near the top. I'm not sure what is creating that metallic vibe, but I assume it's in the herbal contributions somewhere. Is it the geranium, which I've heard can manifest a minty facet? Drakkar Noir is quite mentholated itself. Whatever it is, I don't think it jives so closely with a targeted "quintessential barbershop Fougere". I initially questioned the Leather note - added by the perfumer to "replicate the smell of the barber's chair". OK, I just thought the perfumer was overthinking it a little but that's OK, it was intentional. But the metallic vibe? To replicate the scissors? And clippers? If so it doesn't appear to be stated anywhere. The Maison Martin Margiela website has this:

"...Focus on the orchestrated ballet of gestures: a shaving brush is soaked with soapsuds before the blade slides jerkily over the skin...."

But does not explicitly acknowledge replicating a metallic blade smell. Even if it did that would be REALLY overthinking it in my opinion. Good frag but should have been better.

Update: Now wearing it. I don't like it. Its annoying. That metallic smell. "Barbershop" fougeres are my favorite genre and I have a big collection of them. And I rarely say I don't like one, but At the Barbers will have to join Paco Rabanne Pour Homme in that small group. (Paco Rabanne Pour Homme's soapiness smells like cheap laundry detergent to me). The perfumer missed on this.

Patricia888

This is purely male perfume. I have lots of unisex perfumes and I love to play with ambiguity and borderline things but I cannot see myself as female ever to pull this one off - it`s pure male perfume. Very clean, nice masculine scent, I would never mind smelling this on a man.

ikea pencil

Bougie Gillette shaving cream.

This is peak "fresh" to me. Geranium, moss, rosemary and lavender that are soooo smooth and clean. Masculine but not showboaty. The only downside is how generic this is. I don't know if people taking quick sniffs would be able to distinguish this as it's own thing as it's REALLY similar to Gillette's shaving cream. It's a scent that's imprinted on everyone when they're young, playing around with dad's shaving cream from the medicine cabinet. But it's executed so well and it's easy to love. I enjoy how this doesn't come across as soapy, retains some herbalness and stays wonderfully fresh. Lovely! Maybe even FBW!

Corvo

A fresh and clean Gillette shaving cream frag which has a timeless DNA. A fresh shave in a bottle. Or as someone below put it, an Irish Spring soap bar.

It's masculine but not aggressively so, there’s a fresh youthfulness there which means I can wear it without feeling like I’ve stolen it from my dad or grandad. Not sure when I’d where it, probably best suited for the spring time and possibly in autumn.

Performance (skin): A linear scent that projects most for the first 45min-1h and then sits close to the skin. Could still smell it on me (although faintly) after 8 hours.

LeChefRouge

This is the first Replica fragrance I have bought and after testing over a couple of months, I love it! I'm still new to the community so I can't pick out individual notes, but this is just a clean barbershop aroma scent with a hint of leather. This is perfect for the hot kitchen I work in. It doesn't project too much and doesn't offend anyone working with me. I get about 7 hours on this fragrance, so I usually reapply between meal periods. I'm not sure I would pay full retail for this scent, but will gladly pay the $80 I spent on it earlier this year. Solid 8.5/10

Fuming_hot

This is the niche version of Drakkar Noir but without the sillage of Drakkar or the performance. The lavender really shines through but doesn't get too soapy. There's a herbal note from the rosemary in the drydown. Has similarities with Platinum Egoiste from the lavender presence. Performance is the only snag.

The Wolf

I was not high on this when I first bought it in December 2020.
It felt overwhelmingly herbal without enough lavender. It died on my skin very quickly.
Fast forward 8 months and I really love it.

Either my nose has changed/matured or maceration has smoothed it out dramatically.
Performance has also jumped considerably. It projects better and stays on my clothes 24hrs+.
It's very refreshing to wear in the heat.

Where I live it is over 100F° regularly during summer.
This frag is refreshing, clean and cooling. Even more so than Aqua di Parma Colonia Club.
Excellent frag for me but the juice needed time to age like wine.

Daisv

From first Spray, big on the moss, ripe Lavender, Green Earthy and some musk but super faint. This smells like the OG Irish Spring Bar Soap, lathered up and foaming-Yet Rubbery. It does Smell clean, but that's mostly the cologne smell. Nothing yet making this a standout fragrance, falls short on impression.

Bert_

It smells like luxury shaving foam.
The good question before buying it, is: would you want to smell like that?

mikema_

Perhaps the best of all barbershop colognes.
Next to Fougere D'Argent (which is more barbershop + dense forest).

As with most every MM perfume, the name is accurate. No confusing description; just smells like you're sitting in a barbershop. I guess if you had to go stronger than this, you would just get Chanel's Platinum Egoiste. But PE is different, and this is better. Inoffensive, masculine, and timeless. Barbershop colognes have a tendency to feel dated, but this is good.

anders.pilot

I used about half this bottle a while back then traded it, its not bad at all, but at its current price, the competition destroys it. 8/10

AnnaElli

I got this one in the MM Replica Discovery Set of 10. It really does smell like at the barbers' and reminds me of the aftershave my dad used to wear when I was a child, unfortunately I do not know the name. Quite a nice strongly masculine fragrance, I'd say it is a timeless classy kind of smell. Very fresh, spicy, quite long lasting.

Great99

I have to chime in, only to make it clear that this does not smell like....
Drakkar
Rive Gauche
Azzaro
It does have some herbal aspects like....
Channel Platinum Egoiste
Eternity

I worry that people might expect one thing, but then get something completely different based on the comparisons. This is more modern than the Fougere Classics, and lacks the creamy smooth characters of the top listed comparisons. I regret referencing a modern Sauvage twist in my last review, it smells nothing like Sauvage, but has a peppery opening and modern vibe that separates it from old school barbershop style frags. I really enjoy this offering, but the price has gone up significantly, it has a small hint of Gillette blue cooling gel or blue gel shaving foam whatever that is scent wise??? Anyhow, if you are curious about this one I highly recommend a sample first, do not blind buy based off our comparisons.

Thanks Again

persb010

I absolutely love this fragrance. The masculine white towel fresh herbal feeling with a leather accord to give it some balls. The way it lingers on clothes is worth the purchase for me. I find it just delivers in cold weather even as a fresh fragrance. I spray this on my Jean jacket and it’s magic. It may smell exactly what you imagine it would, but I recommend. They recently started selling this in a smaller size than the 3.4 ounce, and as a collector it was perfect.

Jewelpaq

This is a solid nice fresh, clean gentleman type of fragrance with a barbershop theme to it. I would say that it is almost impossible to not like this fragrance. it is right up there in the designer sector of fragrances. To me, this is pegged at the correct price and if you can find it available from an online retailer at a discounted price, you will be getting a great deal.
This is very versatile & can be worn dressed up or down. I get great projection for first 2 hours with very good silage and after 4 hours it becomes a skin scent for the next 4 hours. It will last on clothes until the next day. This is a great addition to my collection.

Ryanleaf

This a great male on the go fragrance. I really enjoy the smell of an old school barber shop. Just takes me back to the smell of my grandfather taking me to the local shop. I can see this worn on a nice summer day.

gstaffvitorrosa

To my nose goes in the direction of Guy Laroche´s Drakkar Noir but a bit more shaving foamy. I think it doesn't project very much, only the first 30 minutes to 1 hour afterwards it comes down to a more personal experience, sitting close to the skin but you can still feel it giving you that boost of confidence. It´s not the type of fragrance that will give u a tone of compliments, not because it doesnt smell great but because it dont get very noticeable. It´s a must have if you enjoy that barbershop style of smell and if you're a collector of those sort of fragrances.

byronius5

Received a sample vial from Split Scent a couple of days ago, and after trying it out, I enjoy this scent, it's really lovely, but I've smelt it before. It smells like Prada L'Homme and Chanel Egoiste got together and had a child; it combines the best characteristics of both of these scents straight down the middle: Cool, clean, refreshing, airy, soapy, a tad sweet, a tad aromatic, and the odd bit of spice, just as a fantastic barbershop fragrance should be. The most outstanding notes I get out of this one is the basil, the lavender (big time), the white musk (only slightly) and tonka bean; all the other notes just don't seem to be there to my nose.

I do like it, there's nothing to dislike, it's very pleasing to the nose and inoffensive to those around me, but I probably wouldn't buy it; that would be redundant, as I already have the two other fragrances I listed above, and if I want an identical scent I can just layer those. But if you don't have either of them, then I would say if you really enjoy the barbershop aromas, and you've got $150 to spend on a barbershop fragrance, then this will do the trick. My only complaint is the performance; I think it fades pretty quickly; it didn't last more than an hour on my skin. Overall I give it 8/10. It loses a point for weak performance, and another point for being IMO way overpriced for what you're getting.

ikea50

Really solid barbershop fragrance. Unique in what is a crowded field. You get a lavender burst followed by spices and leather, however this is a spicier offering than most in this category. It's a second tier barbershop fragrance behind the big boys but its still worth adding to the collection. I like it because its a modern twist on a classic genre. Performance and sillage could be better. 7.5/10.

persb010

First tried it in Orlando, 2018. Classic shaving cream. I think the leather undertones give this fragrance some legs that help it linger into 6+ hours. The leather with the seemingly white, frothy shaving cream and warm towels makes a fantastic fragrance. The scent DNA and price would lead one to think this is overpriced, and it is. I just saw they have 1oz of this on some websites. $50 for a 1oz is when I pulled the trigger. Fantastic casual fragrance and for work, but I can see the price being too high for that. I recommend the 1oz. Solid fragrance.

easterncrescent

This opens with a very fresh and almost sport feel akin to a 1990s deodorant aerosol. This definitely has a retro vibe to it but does not feel like a dated scent. The dry down for me is the best part as it does produce a spicy shaving cream effect which does feel clean and masculine but the performance is not great at this point. Definitely overpriced. Does not have the gravitas of anything like YSL Rive Gauche. I would probably agree with others that this is not a barbershop scent but rather a smell of a barbershop interior. It’s pretty inoffensive safe to use in many different settings but I was hoping for more spice and power. For anyone who grew up in the 90s it does have a nostalgic feel to it. The more I wear it the more I am liking it.

Anabol2336

It smells exactly what is says it smells like. Takes me back to a day at the barbershop in the mid 90's with my father and little brother. My father would always spray us with Drakkar Noir right after the barber was finished. If that's the vibe you like then this is a great choice especially for nostalgia.

stacia79

I grew up hanging out at my uncle's barber shop. This smell is incredibly nostalgic for me. All the products are here. Even the plastic combs and the barbicide and the vinyl cape is here. The warmth of the blow dryers is represented. The shaving foam. With undercurrents of tradition, self care, warmth and intimacy. I had no idea this was going to blow my mind with its photorealism. Wear this and listen to "Sharp Dressed Man" by ZZ Top.

jellisunc

Ending up purchasing a 10ml travel spray of this one, its really easy to wear and inoffensive. The more I wear this one, the more I enjoy it!

It is very herbal and spicy in the opening but dries down into a very pleasant masculine fragrance. This is coming from someone who does not usually like green fragrances such as basil, rosemary, and definitely not a fan of moss most of the time. But the moss is done very well here and is incredibly modern smelling. They really did a good job of taking a classic and turning it into a modern-day fougere that is only missing the coumarin note.

It really does remind me of my barber and I think this line nails that piece almost every time, taking you to a familiar place and time. However, I do not agree with the pricing of the REPLICA line, but I guess that is nitpicky. It's a like that I can see becoming a love as I age!

kaurg

Compared to Platinum Egoiste, At The Barber's is more spicy and dry, whereas Platinum Egoiste is more flowery and green. They're both very clean and synthetic smelling, but At The Barber's is a bit more natural. Maybe. You might get them mixed up separately, but side by side, they're quite distinguishable from each other. Azzaro Pour Homme would be a far-stretched parallel, they're really not that similar. Don't get the leathery notes, but in the drydown, I got a synthetic fruity note that reminded me of Dior Sauvage.

justlikemagic

I got this in a sampler from Sephora - put it on and was confused, thinking it was marketed as a unisex fragrance as many of this house's are. Alas, no, but that's on me. This smells really amazing - clean and a little sensual - like cuddling up to a guy and getting a whiff of his aftershave. Definitely too masculine for me - will be passing it off to my husband, because it smells so, so good.

fragrex

This one doesn't reinvents the wheel like it's name it's a a plain and simple barbershop/fougere scent but this has caught the essence of a fougere so well that it's a perfect typical barbershop scent.
Foamy, spicy, a bit fresh and yet slightly dark.
Perfect yet typical its not an easy thing to achieve don't expect it to blow your mind but if you are into fougeres it's a must try.
Kudos to MMM for literally delivering in the scent what the name says.

UFChrisB

This is awesome. This is reminiscent of spicy, sweet shaving cream from the 1990's. It's the epitome of a barbershop scent. Give this one a try in the colder weather. The pepper and leathery notes cut through the cold and smell fantastic, classic and undeniably masculine. I get TONS of compliments with this one.

Manton96

If you enjoy wet shaving then you'll probably enjoy this, it's a fresh spicey aromatic soapy fragrance. This smells just like having a range of fine shaving products, pre-shave balms, a nice lathered up shaving cream, some zesty aftershave balms and the full kit of products with just the slightest hint of leather in the background.

NDStars

First blast of clean, freshly showered... male. That's it. I can't pick out any other notes except to say that I wish all the guys around me wore this. Evokes images of men in tailored freshly-pressed suits and also Chris Evans in that white cable-knit sweater. I'd say suitable for all weather and all times of day but perhaps a bit too bright and crisp for a night out. Projection is there in the beginning but performance fades pretty fast, on my skin anyway.

6+ hours later: It's mostly gone; honestly, was mostly gone with a couple hours. Would need a constant refresh during the day which makes it overpriced.

ginandrice

Before the dry down this is fresh, spicy, and masculine. For that first five minutes you can really smell the pepper and herbs, which are pleasantly sharp and energetic in concert with the more smooth and dignified base of lavender and musk. That few minutes before the dry down is when I like At The Barbers most. (If you’re male-attracted and craving a bit of easy, uncomplicated manliness in your life, a couple sprays of this could be a nice fix for you.)

Unfortunately, after the dry down this gets a little too basic for me. I crave that zingy dimensionality of the opening, when the vigorous top notes contrast the calm ease of the base notes. Once those top notes fade, what's left is just a sweet, woody musk; clean, unimposing, and quite standard.

All in all, At The Barber’s is nice, even after the dry down. It's a bit of a sure bet, really, and I would be happy to smell it on a man. But I have little interest in wearing it myself, not because it’s too masculine, but because it’s too basic.

markactor

If there was a uniform standard of fresh soap from a barbershop, this would be it. Leans more masculine than unisex IMO. Sharp, clean soap. That's it.

7/10

toughcritic

I gave this fragrance an "OK" rating, not because I like it, but because it really does a pretty incredible job of smelling like a barber shop. That being said, I never really liked the smell of barbershops, so I guess this fragrance is not for me. I agree with other reviewers that think this smells strongly like the scent of aerosol shaving cream, and it also smells like baby powder. Once the aerosol scent settles down, the fragrance does open up and the herbal and floral notes are revealed. I have the Replica sample set, and this is the only male/unisex fragrance that I never wear.

altezze

Ok so I am a bit surprised how definite Fragrantica is on the male-ness of this one. To me the scent is pretty unisex, and might as well be called ‘At Barbara’s’ - your friendly neighbour who keeps a garden and makes you wash your hands with tar soap. Possibly it is the rosemary speaking, but there is definitely a bit of metallic sink with freshly cut herbs at a greenhouse in there. Outside is stormy, and you shiver a bit in your leather jacket as Barbara hands you lavender and basil to take back to the house. Thankfully no aftershave for me, just cool, savoury, outdoorsy infusion, like an unsweetened gourmand.

Wwoman

I, like other reviewers, totally get how this fragrance got its name. However, I'm not sure I want to *smell* like a barbershop. After the dry down, it does mellow and I am left with a slightly herbal musk. I think the idea of the replica series is genius in theory, but in practice I find myself asking if I really want to smell like any of these scenarios throughout the day. Nevertheless, they do have good lasting power and are true to the notes for me. I just haven't found one yet that I am willing to buy a bottle of.

Slava29

Lives up to the name and genuinely smells like a barbershop which is a good thing. A really nice fragrance but the brand isnt easily available on discount websites so you're going to pay full retail in most cases which hurts the overall experience of buying this.

Aventeros

As other people here have mentioned, this smells a lot like Gillette shaving foam. The individual notes don't really stand out. It just smells like a fresh shave. Great scent for work or any situation where you are not looking to offend anyone or project too much. It has white musk (or maybe ambroxan) at the base, so avoid if you are sensitive to those ingredients. Solid release overall.

I totally agree with @AtomikArts's review, and his final thought sums up my experience perfectly: "On me it's too bright and shaving cream-like although it does finish nicely. Just too much initial projection for me."

I am fairly certain that my dad used to wear an aftershave/cologne that smelled similar to this, because to me it's 100% him! However, as a girl, I'd really prefer not to smell like my Dad, lol! :)

I am glad I got to sample it though, and I highly recommend the Maison Martin Margiela Replica discovery set, since so far all the scents have been of exceptional quality, even if they haven't all been to my taste preferences.

michaeld2986

I really love the Replica line and At The Barber's is my most complimented and my personal favorite. I get about 4-6 hours longevity, which for an EDT is fairly solid. If you want it to last longer, put some in a travel atomizer and freshen up as needed. It's classic old school barbershop. I think this type of fragrance appeals more to +30 year old crowd. I notice many of the negative reviews seem to be from really young guys. It doesn't strike me as a young guy's type of fragrance. Overall, I give At The Barber's an A+!!!!

jellisunc

Not the biggest fan of the 70s-80s powerhouse masculine fragrances, reminds me of my grandparents and usually gives me a headache. That's what I thought this was going to be, but I was very wrong.

This is a beautiful barbershop fragrance that takes me back to getting a clean neck shave every month or so.

A great blast of lavender in the opening, but I also get a lemon verbena vibe even though it's not listed. I like the moss note in this, it smells very modern compared to others in the same category.

This is a respectable and refined barbershop scent. It's not too sharp or rough around the edges, but what you expect a clean shave leaves you with.

Longevity will get you through the day at 6-8 hours, but the scent stays close to the skin.

Get this if you love barbershop scents and want something that's truly refined.

AtomikArts

A bright, clear and crisp barbershop scent. Starts off quite forward with clean top notes and just the right amount of pungency to anchor it. Lavender and musk.

A fair amount of projection and sillage - this lasts to a diminishing degree for several hours until it dries down to a spicy skin scent with just a hint of its former sparkle.

A nicely crafted EDT with all the right moves - it is a modern barbershop in a bottle. Not my favorite from MMM Replica, but a good go to scent for spring/summer days outdoors.

On me it's too bright and shaving cream-like although it does finish nicely. Just too much initial projection for me.

BoozyBrunch88

Great scent - starts off very shaving foam like (aerosol can)and then develops into quite a green fragrance imo... you wont think this is long lasting but others around you can smell it. its a real masculine smell.
not close to rive gauche but have the same idea.. 2 different smells but same idea. 10/10 fragrance and will replace bottle when finished. I've heard its along the lines or Drakkar noir and i kind of understand the comparison...

JimmyMisfit

So nice. I get the sense of being a dapper little kid who feels all grown up because the barber put Brylcreem in my hair before I get my picture taken at Sears. Interesting to see the comparisons to Drakkar Noir. I used to love it, but I've become a little sensitive to lavender, so I don't think I can wear it anymore. (Same with Montblanc Legend) The lavender doesn't seem quite as front and center here, so I think I can get away with At the Barber's as long as I'm spare with it. If I remember Drakkar Noir correctly, At the Barber's is also sweeter as well as fresher and cleaner. Very comforting and evocative. This is the second Martin Margiela I've tried after Jazz Club, and their fragrances make me happy. I would wear this again.

brightflashes

One spray will definitely do you - at least for those around you. My partner tried on this masculine scent as I'm the girl in the relationship and it smelled to me just like Barbasol shaving cream with a little bit of spice thrown in. My guy likes it just fine and it made him laugh, but I don't think he's going to start wearing fragrances based on this experience (some people don't wear watches; he doesn't wear cologne).

Great silage, decent longevity, the dry down is much more complicated than shaving cream as it does morph into something more well-blended and masculine. It smells the way I'd imagine exclusive gentlemen's clubs smelling. Or maybe the taproom at Pebble Beach.

JonniePatron

Sampled today. Reminds me of little bit like Drakkar Noir. I didn't much like it at first but it has definitely grown on me. What I like most is that is not so over powering with that old man smell like most Barber Shop scents. It's a little pricey for what it is, but worth it. I'll be picking up a bottle.

UPDATE: Just picked up a new bottle of Drakkar Noir and "At The Barber's" is very similar. The new Drakkar doesn't last as long as ATB and Drakkar has a citrus blast at the beginning. If you're on a budget, just get Drakkar.

ATB is a far superior smell and smoother than Drakkar. I give At The Barber's 8/10. It's more for the older crowd. Not a young buck's scent. I don't think your average 20 year old would appreciate this scent. IMO. However I did wear Drakkar Noir in 93' when I was 13.

HisTyNess

Two words: GROWN MAN!!!
That's who this fragrance is for. You want solid masculinity in a bottle, then look no further.

9/10 Highly recommend!

bintTapputi

Oh I love it, it reminds me of my grandfather. It's almost an exact replica of his aftershave. This review is purely personal, I'm afraid. It's fresh, aquatic, soft, a great soapy fragrance. Probably has the best projection of the Replica's I've tried. Really a simple classic. 7/10

Great99

So modern Sauvage walks into a barbershop...I really like this and I can give a reason based off my appreciation for wet shaving. So this is spicy off the top, with an old school shaving soap vibe, if I were to put my thumb on the final modern twist, is at the dry down this has a strong resemblance to the Gillette blue shaving gel. Really any of the blue gel, and you can even include the blue gel calming aftershave. Now, the scent is more complex than that, it is just there in the base if you take it in. This is a great clean scent, they nailed barbershop. Projects ok and longevity is decent, would wear this in the spring and fall in my opinion. Suitable for any age really, as I find it shares a small hint of Sauvage to bridge the generation gap. Do not blind buy unless you get a sample or the 10ml travel size first, a little pricey and specific in character for most I suspect. Thanks for the read, hope this was helpful.

clintjr82

Mann just awesome! Rich mans scent. Talk about a real barber shop scent. This is it. Sophisticated Fresh Shaving cream magic. Old school with a modern twist. VERY masculine. This is mans man scent. Classic written all over it years from now. I plan on getting a bottle. I received good response from the mature ladies. They love it. Even the Nordstorm associate couldn't stop sniffing, her favorite from what she said.

Borzoi

A fresh classic barbershop smell. Very traditionally masculine.

QVT

Upon first application this is Rive Gauche but with more musk. Then it transforms and spends hours being a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. I was quite surprised to see so much development from a mainstream fragrance in 2020. Such a cool concept for a line and bottle, too.

If you don’t like Rive Gauche but do like the idea, this is a great choice. Otherwise, getting the original is probably the way to go.

This really does smell like you've just gotten a fresh haircut and a shave At the Barber's!

Classic, old-school, and versatile.

It's really fresh and clean which makes it work well in warmer weather, while still having a certain aromatic richness to it which makes it work in cooler weather as well.

This smells very masculine in a traditional and mature sort of way, yet it still has a certain softness and kindness about it.

It somehow feels both serious and casual. Confident and humble. Like a responsible and sensible dad who takes good care of himself and wears a white shirt, but who doesn't shy away from hugging his kids. Actually reminds me of my best memories of my father.

It's smooth, pleasant, friendly, unoffensive and comforting.

It's feels like a very familiar scent, which you could argue keeps it from being super unique or special, but you could also say that it makes this a timeless classic. I'd say a mature man can't really go wrong with this.

Many say this smells like Platinum Égoïste. While they are both clean, fresh, mature and with a classic barbershop vibe, I would say PE is much more posh and formal, as well as more citrusy, while AtB is more casual, down-to-earth and aromatic, with more focus on the lavender.

If Platinum Égoïste is an expensive suit, then At the Barber's is a pair of chinos and a white shirt with rolled-up sleves.

I for one definitely prefer At the Barber's.

ChrisPhineas

It is what is says it is....a barbershop smell. Very well done. Good longevity and above average projection. Lasted 6 hours on my hands. Nice scent, but did not WOW me.

el_ahmadinia

I've smelt this in store, sprayed on my hand and 1 single spray laster 5/6 hours and projected very well. I love the smell and looking forward to wear it everyday.

Llcj

Got a 10 ml decant and wore it to work. Absolutely enjoyed it. It’s fresh, clean, professional, very pleasant. 11 hours later and I still get a good scent of it. Will want to purchase this at some point soon

JezzaN1

As others have said, it's a nice, clean throwback to the barbershop scents of old. Pleasant, but nothing new or innovative, and nothing to justify the pricepoint it's sold at IMO. At 50-60% of what it retails for I think it would be much more successful.

Mutt

A very good clean smell that I would classify as a comfort scent. Besides the listed notes I get a hint of black licorice. Straight from a barbers shaving cream. Reminds me of my dad shaving.

JonnyE

Well rounded, pleasant scent. No monster performance which was expected.
I would only buy it again if anywhere on offer. £94 is quite a bit for this one.

On my skin, I get similarities to Bleu de Chanel which seems kinda odd but that might be down to my skin.

Paulmac1966

@Thomas71. I was gonna say exactly the same.

linceed87

smells like shaving cream, and cheap shaving cream at that.
no thank you, i threw away my sample.... just think about that...

calculus

Fresh, clean, shaving cream-like. To my nose this has a similar vibe to Rive Gauche and Drakkar Noir. The notes may be a bit different, but the masculine barbershop feel is the same. I think at the Barber's is a modernized version of those very familiar classics and is a nice addition to your collection, if you like the "originals".

However, I find the bottle lacking in quality and it hasn't been very well designed. I like the visual concept, but the lack of a cap means the atomizer is exposed and therefore this bottle is almost impossible to take with you on a trip, if you don't want leakage. And speaking of leakage, my bottle had leaked in the package on its way to me 2-3 ml judging from the amount of juice left. The package had a very strong smell to it and the bottle was moist on the outside. I found that it leaks a bit where the glass meets the spray mechanism. I tried tightening the top part, and I hope it helps in the future.

Classic juice, nice concept. Needs a bit more quality control, in my personal experience.

Buy-ability scale rating: 6.5/10

I really like the smell of this. It’s a modern take on the traditional barber smell. The initial spray smells great but is a bit weak. Fear not though, after ten or fifteen minutes it comes through a bit stronger.

It’s not a beast in terms of projection but it does last, especially on clothes - I got a t shirt out of the washing basket two days after wearing it and could still smell the scent on the fabric,

However, it’s not something other people would smell on you. If you. We’re in an office, somebody sat next to you might get a waft of it occasionally but not too often, and it would only be a slight smell of a shaving creamy spiciness.

There is a spiciness to the dry down which I enjoy, as it is mixed with a “fresh” “crisp” “cold” type smell.

if you’re a guy who has a short back and sides, you’ll know the feeling of stepping outside for the first time after having your hair cut and feeling the coldness against your neck. This scent smells like that feeling.

As nice as the smell is, I think this is little more than a safe office scent or maybe a casual wear scent. It’s not a big hitter. For the price you’ll pay, there are better (and/or cheaper) scents that would be used in the same situations. They might not smell quite like this, but they would do a similar job.

USS-Spongebob

With "At The Barber's" being a self-described tribute to classic barbershop fragrances, it should be no surprise that one can pick out many elements in this perfume: nuances of citrus-lavender aftershave, retro shaving cream, stroppy leather, powdery moss, pleasant musk, etc. There's more than a passing nod to famous fougères of yesteryear ranging all the way from Clubman to Brut to Paco Rabanne to Drakkar Noir.

Does it smell like you've smelled it before? For sure! It smells like elements of all sorts of other things! But does it smell like any one specific other product? Nope. Certainly, it borrows freely from its predecessors, but the sum total of all those contributions is a unique perfume that's retro and familiar without being dated or a dupe of another product on the market.

Now, if only it were as cheap as all the perfumes that inspired it...

Alanitoo

A nice fresh and clean barbershop fragrance, nothing unique or groundbreaking. You have smelled this style of fragrance so many times before, in fact it smells exactly like the Gillette shaving cream. and i don't think it's worth $130+

Yayos

Its a very fresh and manly scent. Great for any season. Yes its pricey. And yes if u want to smell like a barbershop. Just buy. Brut faberge. 9 dls for 5 oz !! But this is much more different. I almost finish my 100 ml. It has a magnet with the ladies for his masculine vibe

dcjimr

I got a sample of this at Nordstrom a couple days ago. I'm not a fan of barbershop fragrances, but for what this is I think it's pretty good. The rosemary and pepper are just too much for me, though...it almost makes me want to sneeze. The lavender is very dry and very pronounced so if you're not a fan of lavender, this might not be for you. Again, since I'm not a fan of this type of fragrance, others would have a better idea of how this compares to other scents.

SocialAssassin

Similar to Platinum Egoiste, but different. There's something about this one I quite don't like. It feels rounder, more metallic, a bit fluffy and powdery. It's also sweeter due to the tonka. I prefer Egoiste over this one. But to each their own. I seriously don't understand how people are comparing this to Rive Gauche.

Dunk

Short and sweet , this is very similar to Rive gauche ! At the barbers is “spiced up” with black pepper giving it a very sharp opening that carry’s throughout . Rive Gauche is “spiced up” with star anise & clove giving a smoother and warmer finish. I like both for what they are fresh out the shower clean shave off to work daily grabs ... both could be a signature scent and used year round 🤙🏼

jacobbonilla

I’ve searched high and low for a barbershop scent that suits me best and I’ve found it! I feel like I’ve tried them all, from niche to designer and this one smells the best. Freshest, and most modern while still holding to the “barbershop” category. Sure it’s not longest lasting one but on the up side it has the best lavender note! I mean, I was being followed by Bees! Good stuff.

OldSchoolScents

Finally bought a bottle of this after many, many 3mL samples at Sephora. My favourite discounter finally got this one and although it was more than I'd like to have spent, it was much less than the overpriced full retail.

At the Barber carries the same DNA as Platinum Egoiste but where PE is dry and cold, At the Barber is warm and has some added spice and some more sweetness.

The first 1-2 hours smells sweeter and spicier than PE but once it settles , they drydown to a very similar smell. After about 3-4 hours, I can hardly smell them apart from one another on my arms.

It also does remind me of my favourite fragrance Rive Gauche although this is missing the anise note that really shines in RG. It will never be mistaken for RG, but the two are in the same ballpark.

At the Barber's is a fantastic, modern barbershop fragrance that can be worn in spring, summer and fall. It's a safe work fragrance and also can be worn easily in a formal or casual setting. For those who already own PE, I think this still can earn a place in your collection, especially if you like barbershop fragrances like I do.

Given the pricetag I'd shy away from making this your signature fragrance, but scent wise it is absolutely signature worthy.

valthunder

This is definitely not a fragrance for everyone. DO NOT BLIND BUY!!!

It's exactly what it says it is: A pure barbershop scent.
You apply this, and after 20 seconds, and it's like leaving the barbershop.

It can be used in every season, but i think it shines in spring and summer with temperatures between 18~26 degrees celcius.

I like it, but again, it's not a scent for everyone.

psebi101

It is what it says and clearly the lavender is the big star. It's a nice aromatic fougere, but it doesn't stand out in this genre. There are moments when I am reminded of Chanel's Platinum Egoiste, which I liked. In the dry down it gets simpler and less interesting.
6.5/10

Silencer1

This is a less sweet, more grainy, slightly more woody & powdery version of MFK Masculin Pluriel. I like barbershop fragrances, so this is a beautiful fragrance imo, but because I only got about an hour of real projection, (but pretty decent longevity) I would have to stick to MFK.

kaurg

First impressions. Quite similar to Azzaro Pour Homme and Platinum Egoiste. Maybe more in the direction of the former, but I can't be 100% sure, since I had to rinse it off at the airport for my GF to allow me to sit next to her on the plane. (So, maybe it's not a universal panty-dropper in 2019?) It is definitely synthetic smelling and clean. I get lavender, coumarin, anise, but everything is cold and metallic, antiseptic. For me, the quintessential 90s deodorant smell. I rather prefer the more rustic and warm versions of the barbershop theme like Penhaligon's Sartorial, but to each their own. In it's own sub-genre, it seems to be well constructed.

MNadz

This is really good and nails the whole Aromatic Fougere idea. No doubt this hits the barber shop scent out of the park!!! I really enjoy this fragrance and the beautiful lavender note that project throughout the 8/9 hours longevity I get from this. Projection was really good for first couple of hours, and slowly works its way back toward a skin scent. The musk and oak moss really compliment the lavender.

Here is why this is only a like and not a love for me - the price. It is extremely hard for me to pay $125 for the type of DNA that this is. Yes, it is great...but it’s a barbershop scent. I can smell this every morning depending on what shave soap I choose. Unfortunately, for MM, I would rather fork over a few extra dollars and get a PDM, Amouage or TF fragrance.

My solution - hit up Sephora for a free 3ml decant once in awhile.

Tyrone E

Definitively smells like a barbershop. Captures the scent of shaving cream/soap and a fresh after shave perfectly.

Performance is average. Lasts around 5 hours, moderate projection for an hour on me.

You can wear this any time of year but it's perfect for spring. I like wearing this one after a haircut/shave. Makes that fresh cut feeling even better.

Andy the Frenchy

Great. Perfectly tailored. Crisp. It's not a barbershop frag, it is a barbershop. Very modern and sparkling.

I don't wear these kind of fragrances often, and already own a couple, but if you don't, it's a great buy. Quite similar to YSL Rive Gauche, and also shares similarities with Egoiste Platinum (the metallic effect), but this one is more on the green side, while EP is more on the floral side.

30+, Spring days.

Texican

An absolute stunner! Knocks me right off my feet. Such a real scent of being at the barbers. Wonderful!

Note: I found that if you layer Mont Blanc Presence with Eau de Passion....you get this. Just a tip for those on a budget.

Robotnik19

I know that some people respectfully say “hey this isn’t for me or I prefer another barbershop style scent”! and that’s perfectly fine but a lot of you fragrance snobs are just saying “oh it’s not Rive Gauche it’s automatically terrible” you guys are the toxic people in the fragrance community. I haven’t smelled rive gauche but I love at the barbers’s rhe Moment I smelled it in Sephora. I definitely want to get this soon.

the Smell of Derbyshire

Wonderful stuff.

It's not groundbreaking but if you, like me, love the smell of shaving foam and an almost minty freshness then it's a winner.
Incredibly clean smelling summer scent.

July, Shorts and t-shirt.

great Longevity and projection.

marioslg3

Indeed a barbershop fragrance, closer to egoiste platinum, not ysl rive gauche by any means. It is pleasant, fresh and with a hint of talcum powder...the first 5 to 10 minutes is the best part of it but generally, a very well crafted perfume. I tend to love is as long as I wear it, is very manly and beautifully wearable

WhaleFingers

If I was wearing a blindfold, and this aroma hit me, I would be prepared to get a little off the time, and maybe a hot towel facial. This scent works great for me, bringing forth a litany of notes to culminate in an offer of fresh, clean gentleman vibe straight out of the chair, at the golf club, or in the office. Brings out memories of the dying breed of guy's guy that full of class, and someone you admire.

I see some people don't find this scent appealing in either the dry-down, or overall, however I recommend giving this one a shot for your own. Decant first, then make a decision. I absolutely love By The Fireplace, and this is coming up right behind with the MMM replica line. Check this one out!

ordealbyfire

Smells nice at first. Ozonic, fresh... reminds me of Libre (?) by Yves Saint Laurent. A few moments later, it has a smell reminiscent of a barber shop — as someone else said, minus the hair. Hefty dose of aftershave with an almost sort of.. mintiness? Like a fresher smelling shampoo. Despite its somewhat generic and fruck boy vibe up front, I don’t hate it. This fragrance loses me in the dry down. It stays on the skin for quite awhile, but it’s a musty smell that has the smell I associate with sun-skunked or old cologne. That really ruins the fragrance for me, outside of the fact that, like I said, it smells like a frat boy who’s trying his damnedest to smell sophisticated. It’s alright, I wouldn’t really recommend it.

Professor Value

I've been on a "woody" scent jag for a while, ordering and sampling like a mad man. But then I thought, "Wait, I love that classic barbershop smell, so, what about going in that direction?" Several pages of research later and my first order was for Fine Accoutrements' American Blend (AB). While I like the fragrance for doing a good job at attempting to capture the "essence of a traditional shave," its weak on longevity and sillage. So, on to At the Barber's. I ordered a 1.2ml sample off eBay, sprayed a small patch, and didn't like it immediately. But then, the next morning, I used it as my cologne-of-the-day, and it really hit the right cord. Maybe it needed a longer dry down, but it smacks of the classic, traditional barbershop scent with a touch of sophistication. Bonus, it lasts all day and has good projection throughout. Now, the price; that's something else. It is, in my wallet's opinion, on the pricey side, but it is worth it and I will be purchasing the full 100ml bottle soon and proudly adding it to my repertoire.

bubbagump210

This is a failed attempt at a classic fougere. The opening is promising but within a few minutes the drydown takes a left turn and ends up smelling like a rubber toy. I think this is the basil note (some others mention licorice), but it isn't convincing. You'll get whiffs of the opening from time to time, but overall you are much better off with another barbershop scent. Rive Gauche, Tom Ford Fougere d'Argent, etc.

tessture

Smells exact to me, like a barbershop, though my husband didn’t think so. Cologne, oily neroli notes, sharp alcoholic tonic notes. I rather love it. Smells like a clean, freshly groomed guy.

RUDOLFO512

This is how I smell when I leave the barber shop and I love it! Shaving cream, spices and after shave mixed together. Leather, tonka bean and moss give it that masculine touch. It makes me feel sophisticated and elegant.

kanak

At the Barber's was love at first sniff...and if i am being honest with myself, My love for this is probably more nostalgic than objective. This reminds me of my Dad's bathroom sink when I was a kid, the smell of shaving soap, straight razors and old school after shaves like Aqua Velva and blue Stratos. Maison Margiela does memories and this one is certainly a time capsule for my childhood.

Upon spraying, initial notes that hit you are bright, spicy herbal mix from the orange a bit and the pepper and basil. I love this first phase, very fresh and sparkly. The Heart is all classic barbershop florals, Lavender, geranium and rosemary and this stage really lasts a good long time. After the stellar Top and heart, the base is a tad underwhelming, standard fixative musks and hints of synthetic oakmoss but it's not a big deal to me as I think it serves it's purpose of giving the fragrance depth and longevity.

Projection is really good for the first 2-3 hours, always get compliments when I step into the office or meet people during this phase. Longevity is a good 5-7 hours most days although it does get close to skin towards the end. Frankly I dont see how anybody can not like this unless they are allergic to one of the notes mentioned, just smells so fresh and clean and squared away so to speak. If you like frags like Penhaligons Endymion, MDCI Invasion Barbare, Chanel's Platinum Egoiste ( which this is really similar to) or even good old fashioned Aqua Velva, blindly get this. A winner for me. 9/10

c.davis

This is a sharp sophisticated barbershop casual scent. Smells like a mans scent. A Money scent. It'll get noticed.

silkysmooth92

Does anyone else get an overpowering black licorice smell upon first spray?

opalescenttreeshark

I am wearing this today and I feel like a sexy, sophisticated 40yo man that just came back from getting his bald head touched up at the Barber's.

I'm a 24yo woman, but I like the feeling nonetheless. lol

In my head, this is what Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson or Karamo Brown smells like. Delicious. :)

meow78

This was in the Replica Memory Box. It smells like shaving cream, which has zero appeal for me personally (female). Not all that interested in my fiancé wearing this, either (for the price and skin scent, he could just shave.) Maybe it changes beautifully on skin?

soartdeco

I purchased this frag for my boyfriend as a 30th birthday present - logic being, by age 30, one should have a high quality, versatile fragrance for daily wear. I adore this scent on him. It is clean, professional, with a touch of sweetness that is not at all cloying. It lasts all day. My boyfriend is a man who is secure in himself and appreciates the simple things in life. As such, At The Barber suits him to a tee, but I could see how it could be too simple for some.

45yoGWM

Oh, this one is a mini-heartbreaker. It starts wonderfully, exactly evocative of a barber's shop, in keeping with the Replica theme. A nostalgic, masculine smell.

And then it just fades. No shimmer, no new ideas, no narrative, it just (very) quickly becomes a quieter version of itself. The opening is wonderful and butch as hell, but the overall journey is short, disappointing and emasculating.

Good to put on two hours before you know you'll shower or turn in for the night (alone). Nothing animalic or devlish to it in any way... just blue comb water, shaving cream, leather, and comfort.

Thankfully, unlike Soul of the Forest or an ELDO frag there are no unexpected sharp turns or reversals along the way. So this one's very safe, which is both a positive and a negative. Would be killer to have around as a sample size, but prob not worth it for a full bottle...

tayyabforyouth

Really fantastic traditional barbershop scent with killer longevity and projection. Absolute best of the Replica line, and I've tried or smelled all of them. However Pinaud Clubman and Rive Gauche (and for that matter Azzaro pour Homme or Azzaro pour Homme L'eau on the drydown) apparently smell really similar to this so perhaps it's not full-bottle worthy. However the opening is the best part of this fragrance. The dry-down at least to my nose isn't as great. It smells almost identical to Azzaro pour Homme. It's barbershop lavender and anise to my nose and it's ok but meh. Opening however is beautiful.

pkbowen

From a 1.5mL TPC decant. A classic, manly scent. Opens with all the rustic charm of a barber shop: barbicide, talcum powder, mousse, and manly aftershave. To me, these are so ingrained as aromas associated with a barber's that it is tough to ferret out elements of the scent pyramid. Nice and strong for six hours, and can be smelled on the wrist for up to ten hours. Mild projection, but quite good intensity at short distances.

An accurate Replica, but at the same time fairly buttoned-down and professional. Safe for work, solid in warm and cool weather. Could become a little much with very high heat or humidity. Still searching for the right summer scent but this could be bottle-worthy! "Excellent," 93/100.

mirrorghost

i got a free sample of this.it's a traditionally masculine green/aromatic fragrance. it smells like shaving cream. this is too fresh, herbal and green for my tastes. i mostly get lavender, bitter orange, basil and rosemary. it's very strong and gives me a bit of a headache, unfortunately. not terrible, just not my thing.

Thor65

I enjoy this one. Yes, I get comparisons to rive gauche, chanel platinum and mainly Azzaro pour homme. I do enjoy the barbershop catagory and am debating if this is bottle worthy. I'll probably go with Creed Viking and Cooper Square first. Not a bad scent though in my opinion.

zesty_calco

Lavender, oakmoss, musk, herbs, maybe a leather somewhere in there. Old style fougere, shaving cream, barbershop fragrance. Smooth, clean; smells a bit like grandpa. Reminds me of Azzaro Pour Homme or YSL's Rive Guache. While similar to these two it does do it's own thing while staying in the classic, lavender based, barbershop realm.

This is a maturish "masculine" scent that's better in cooler weather. More formal and probably okay for work. Sillage and projection felt good. Lasted about six hours on me before becoming soft. I think the bottle looks cool and I like the scent but there are many others like this. A little pricey for the average performance. Azzaro is dirt cheap but I will admit ATB is more wearable. Rive Guache (new or even vintage) can be had for around this price. Good quality frag if not a little expensive but nothing ground breaking here.

fashionista

Smells like shaving cream and soap. Not impressed. It does capture the scent of a barbershop but, honestly, who needs to smell like one?

happy-knight

You can get this type of scent for way less. I get the point of this scent- but it's expensive and predictable.
