Jose Peralta died from cancer complications

Jose Peralta, the Queens state senator who died suddenly in November, had suffered from complications of cancer, the city medical examiner announced Tuesday.

Peralta, who was just 47, died naturally from “complications of acute promyelocytic leukemia,” according to a press release.

The cancer affects “the bone marrow and the blood” and “[p]rogresses rapidly without treatment,” according to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Peralta, who made history in 2010 as the first Dominican-American elected to the state Senate, died Nov. 21 — the day before Thanksgiving — after developing a fever the day before, his widow, Evelyn Peralta, said at the time.

Just days later, Evelyn told The Post that doctors said he “was septic … and that led to organ failure.”

A source familiar with the ME’s determination noted that septic shock “was a complication directly related to the fact that he had cancer,” noting there were likely other complications that contributed to his unexpected death.

Peralta also left behind two sons: Matthew, 21, and Myles, 13.
