Yves Saint Laurent Y by Yves Saint Laurent is a Woody Aromatic fragrance for men. Yves Saint Laurent Y was launched in 2017. The nose behind this fragrance is Dominique Ropion. Top notes are Aldehydes, Bergamot, Ginger, Mint and Lemon; middle notes are Apple, Violet Leaf, Pineapple, Sage and Geranium; base notes are Ambergris, Musk, Cedar, Balsam Fir, Incense and Vetiver.

Yves Saint Laurent launches a new men's fragrance for Generation Y (those who were born in the 1980s and 1990s). The fragrance is named Y and is capturing the spirit of youth with the goal of offering a millennial generation something different.

"Y, the new masculine fragrance by Yves Saint Laurent. Inspired by the iconic Yves Saint Laurent white t-shirt and black jacket, this Eau De Toilette represents a balance between freshness and strength. Like a crisp white t-shirt, notes of bergamot, sage and ginger offer a sharp juicy freshness to challenge convention and exceed all expectations. At its base, soft notes of balsam fir, cedarwood and marine ambergris embody the subtle power of a tailored black jacket that is refined, chic and surprisingly powerful. An authentic and bold creation; masculinity re-defined. Everything starts with a Why. #THATSY"

Top notes: white aldehydes, bergamot, ginger
Heart: sage, geranium absolute, violet leaf
Base: ambergris, incense, fir balsam, cedar, musk

Hip-hop musician Loyle Carner, sculptor David Alexander Flin and artificial intelligence researcher Alexandre Robicquet were selected as the faces of the advertising campaign.

The fragrance is available as a 60 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

This fragrance single handedly made me a fragrance collector. Prior, I would rotate between 5 fragrances (mostly the Polo line, Versace pour homme and CH men). I remember smelling this in 2017 and I really enjoyed it, but I ended up purchasing YSL L'homme Ultime that day. The sales rep gave me a sample and I became obsessed with this fragrance, but didn't buy it because I was a broke college student with a minimum wage job at that time. Fast forward to 2020, I went down the rabbit hole of seeking reviews of this fragrance and other fragrances. I ended up buying the EDP because reviewers said it was a better version of the EDT, but I do not agree and it was very cloying.

What makes the EDT great is the airiness, the smell of summer, the symphony of notes harmonizing with one another perfectly, and I also like how it smells like you have been at the pool all day and just took a shower. It is nostalgic to the summer days of not working and being carefree. This is the best YSL Y fragrance in my opinion and I don't get why people say it is a weak performer because this thing is really strong and lasts all day on me. At the end of the day, people, including myself, can noticeably smell it. On my skin, the performance rivals the EDP because the EDT can get me nauseous so I only use 4-6 sprays. I am glad to own two bottle of the original formulation because the new one is similar, but they definitely made it closer to the EDP and added the annoying cloying sweetnes.

tylerss20

Comparing this to the EDP...this is a perfectly pleasant, inoffensive general purpose fragrance, but it leans a little too much into the airy, sweet realm. The EDP is a real improvement, but this an adequate warm weather fragrance that's office appropriate.

Hgp_12345

Its a nice fragrances but shit longetive and projection i get about 3-4 hours

applecrunchdev

performance could be better but the scent is great its my go to dumb reach fragrance for the gym and casual wear.

nzq3224

By far smoothest fresh fragrance i own, may not perform as good as others but still one of my all-time favorites. Just feels so smooth and calm, would never offend anyone, and very mass appealing. Smells clean and fresh and a bit soapy, perfect for school and every day use

FemaleDog

This smells like every emotionally unavailable man standing idly in the club. It's nice, well-rounded, and crowd-pleasing, but why would you want to smell like everyone else?

Senzus

My best fragrance, I can't smell it. The formulation is sweeter but superior than the original. I buy it again👍👍🙂

bad performance for the price. i prefer afnan 9am dive to this. same performance, slightly better on afnan, almost same scent.

Dougy_fresh

Reminds me a bit of Coach for Men, but more citrusy. Not incredibly intresting, but it is fresh and easy to wear. Not anything I havent smelt before. Mass appealing and very casual. Pretty good.

Freakmoney

The most telling thing about this fragrance is that AI says the top comment is “has a nice smell”. Wow, a cologne that has a nice smell. This fragrance draws my ire, not because it smells bad but because the level of popularity it attained for being so mid and so basic.

This is a fragrance you’d want to grab if your personality is to try to make people forget that you exist. I can’t see a reason to buy a designer fragrance to try to smell like it’s like, what’s the point?

I wouldn’t be so annoyed by it if it was 1/10 as popular.

Stanfragm@n84

L.12.12 Eau de Parfum and this.. Smells 1 to 1 Exactly the same..... Note breakdowns mean jack...... These designer houses are all in on it... Distracting you with fancy bottles and names.... But in Reality.... Most fragrances are repeated all over these so called designer houses..... Untrained noses will fall for it and think they buying different fragrances but in reality... They buying one clone of the other

BigDaddyBronco20

Amazing Fragrance, I have both the EDT and EDP and can confidently say the EDT is much better. The EDP only performs slightly better than the EDT but the EDT has a much better scent, the price tag is a bit harsh though...

abyssangel

I see what they were going for but its an Aldehydic overload for me, splitting headache ~15mins after applying just one spray. Like high end decoration plastic fruit being cut with a knife made from graffiti fumes. It's edgy, complex, loud and sharp. Despite all that, the one time I wore it I received a compliment about the scent, so it has that going for it. Try before you buy

Boier Serafim

Generic. Like a another 199 fragance

Cristiano817272

Smells good but it IS NOT strong
I wouldn’t recommend and I regret buying it 😭😭

Marxwick

The opening zingy freshness of the Aldehydes, Ginger, Mint, and citrus combined with a semi sweetness are captivating.
It is a lighter and fresher version of Y EDP.
I prefer this over the EDP for high-heat seasons due to its refreshing quality.
The projection is good for the two hours, but it lacks longevity.
My bottle still has the Linalool ingredient.

HermanoBasura

My first real fragrance. I absolutely love this. It isn't too strong, but it's fairly long lasting and good for its price. It's fresh spicy and aromatic combo make it very pleasant to smell. But not too much of it is needed as it's decently strong on the opening. I would recommend just about 3 sprays, 2 on the side of the neck and 1 on the back. Would totally recommend this for anyone who's trying to get into fragrances. 8/10 I love it.

coolwaterlover

pretty fucking awesome

RogueZXRO

Insane longevity, for instance, projection on my skin for 12+ hours, and I had to wash it off because it smelled so bad. Don't wear this if you are indoors. You will choke yourself out and those around you as well. From my experience, it was unpleasant. It started to smell like rotten fruit mixed with some urine.

Unmodernize

Faultless fragrance, a real hit. Y has an impeccable DNA and oozes freshness with just a bit of depth. Summery and joyful. The performance is so so but it’s a freshy.

monsieur.moustache

Not bad, just not for me. Way too floral and it has a synthetic woody note that I'm not a fan of. Luckily, the EDP and parfum formulations rectify this and are thus much more pleasant to wear.

ayywolf

I bought this as a summer freshie and I was satisfied. Thankfully I got a 40 ml bottle, I grew bored of it after like 2 weeks of wear.
This is a nice sporty, fresh scent and it lasts quite a long time.
Unfortunately it's very generic to me and even though it's great quality and well blended, the scent profile is not that unique. The EDP and the EDP intense are much better.
Longevity is pretty good in my experience.

Jonathan.D

My first fragrance,
It is basic but god.
7/10 from me

OrangeGuy

Very mass appealing, very nice and not harsh fresh with notes of sweetness and citrus. 7.7/10 love it

sp10

very nice and radiates between a good distance, walked into a room and people near by could smell it and asked what it was, very mass appealing scent, Good for any occasion really, More of a day time scent but wearing it during the night would do no harm - but there are better alternatives for night time wear. Overall positive radiation, very mass appealing - likeable by anyone, and good for any time wear. Only negative is longevity - may need to top up after 3 hours or so, other than that very good fragrance.

james101

My favorite fragrance in my collection, so fresh.

LeSmeller

Similar to Y EDP, but less apple, more artificial fresh type, though still very sweet. "Artificial" would be the most important quality of this scent. It's just one step from smelling very bad, like a $5 fragrance, but somehow hangs on to acceptability. If you just catch a whiff it's not bad, it's fresh and interesting without the usual citrus.

jakerei

Clean, inoffensive freshie that is great for- aaannnddd it's gone.

Longevity - insanely disappointing. You're better than this, YSL!

busohboss

same old DNA , you can smell this scent everywhere everyone is the same

peru2803

I dont find this fragrance refreshing at all, can even suffocate in intense heat. Good spring and not so hot summer fragrance. 6.9/10

Lovnir

Beautiful all year round scent, works for all occasions, just a fruity soapy freshy goodness, anybody that passes by you will be pleased by the scent. 9/10

NEONinitial

i love how this fragrance smells, its by far my favourite opening in the Y line- however im disappointed by how terrible it smells on me. scents with a clean masculine scent profile like this tend to go foul with my skin chemistry for some reason, and no matter how many times i test it (on my wrist, neck, shirt, etc.) it always smells a bit like a skunk sprayed me.

i wish i could wear this, but more for the rest of you i guess.

gkortus

the aldehyde opening is pretty hard for me, i wore this cologne every single day for two years straight and that was before i got serious into colognes, smelt other stuff and they are just way better, obviously the EDT doesnt last crazy long or project. i have truly grown to hate the opening on my skin

hverduyckt

fresh scent with synthetic vibe
not so well blended with limited sillage

better freshies out there

VicGuzman89

Too expensive for what it is. It smells nice and clean but it lasts no more than 2 hours on my skin. Go for the EDP

Chris5102

This fragrance smells great don't get me wrong but this fragrance will only work for you if you're okay with you being the only one that can smell it.
Absolutely Zero Projection. You catch a brief whiff of it shortly after the first spray then it immediately becomes a skin scent. even then you might get about 3 hours of putting your shirt/arm directly onto your nose and smelling whatevers left of some sort of fragrance.

lukaspriest

I absolutely adore this fragrance. To me, it smells so fresh, clean, and pleasant. I'm not worried about making a big bold statement of individuality with my fragrances, so I'm not concerned about people calling this boring. I just want to smell good, and this absolutely gets the job done for me. 10/10

Seb1979

Good, gives shower fresh clean with more. I like it

navalshastri

This was one of a potent and projecting fresh perfume I smelled after long time.

Opening was fresh and fruity(pineappleish mintish) along with some black pepper like smell which I don't know which note represented. After the initial opening the mid and dry down still smelled fresh (Sauvage like) which seems to be of Ambergris fresh aquatic smell. Also, the dry down smelled herbal-like (Carom Seeds like) which I personally liked but my mom didn't like. It's fresh paper like smell in drydown with rest of pineapple like fruity like and mint like.

It fooled me to be like Bleu De Chanel a little (EdP version which I have) on strip but the moment I smelled BDC I could see a clear difference (BDC has lavender, barbershop like dry down). I still don't know why it reminded me of BDC.
But, to make you imagine I can say it has Invictus like opening (60%), Mid-Dry down has Sauvage+BleuDeChanel mix (60%). But much younger perfume compared to most names I mentioned.
It is versatile and fits all seasons (almost).

P.S. When I tested this, I also tested AcquaDGio Absolu & Black XS. I asked 2 girls from make-up section to number these three.
Both ranked Absolu 1st, Black XS 2nd and YSL Y 3rd. Same goes to my mom.
According to me- YSL 1st, black XS 2nd, Absolu 3rd.
Among all three YSL Y edp lasted like beast!!!
Guys like YSL Y more compared to girls.
Girls like Absolu more than most guys.
Black XS is common liking among girls and guys, maybe.

joeyplace

super clean scent but with a strong smell of synthetic still amazing clean summer fragrance

Kamuran

Sweet, clean, fresh, slightly soapy, and very salty opening. I mainly pick up on salt but the other notes I can notice are vetiver, bergamot/citrus in general, and maybe a little ginger. Hard to pull any exact notes out as a lot of it blends together.

The dry down is a little better since it's just the soapy smell and not as much of the salt, but it's still the most prominent thing I pick up.

This is another one that I unfortunately can use because the sea salt notes gives me a headache right away and covers up anything else.

Scent1nel

This is to my nose hands down the best of the line. That is, the 2017 original is far better than the 2022 reformulation and all the other flankers. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why they would think to mess around with this gem of a fragrance or why people think that the reformulation is better. I get it that this is somewhat subjective especially when very little separates fragrances in terms of rating but I also think that hype or lack thereof(as promulgated by the influencers of the fragcom) sadly plays it's role. In any case thank god I had the good sense to go and buy a couple of backups before the 2017 version is no more.

But enough about the oddities and unpredictability of the fragrance world, lets talk about what makes this better than the reformulation and makes it a strong contender for the best blue fragrances today(easily in the top 3). It has a beautiful creamy(almost soapy) ambergris/vetiver/incense base that is significantly subdued in the reformulation or missing altogether, a ginger/bergamot/mint that pops in the top lifted to even greater heights by the aldehydes(ruined by the lack of mint in reform.) and a smooth apple/pineapple mid that pulls it all together and grounds it beautifully(both missing and replaced by lavender in reform.).

The reformulation isn't terrible by any means but it loses it's edge for me and goes from one of the best designer releases of the last 7 years to something forgettable and not quite collection worthy.

EDIT: Now I know this is not everybody's cup of tea and that there is a sharp almost abrasive note, certainly in the opening. I too detect this and was one of the reasons I wasn't very keen on it for a few years after it's release. It has since grown on me in a major way as I started to notice everything else that was going on with the fragrance and those sharp notes became less bothersome. The issue is, as far as I can tell, that there's a few fragrances out there that if you don't get the dosage just right it ruins the experience in a major way. For most fragrances this doesn't matter too much(a good fragrance is a good fragrance after all, the more the better) but every now and then we get a fragrance that just as it was masterfully put together requires masterful application. So, rule number one, do not apply on clothes, this amplifies and allows for that sharp note to remain present far longer than it has any right to. This is fairly potent stuff, 5 sprays max and let it dry on skin first before clothes come into contact with it. This way it reacts only with your skin chemistry and nothing else. If you do this you will experience soapy, creamy, sparkly, blue bliss for 6-8 hours.

CollectorGabe

The original 2017 formulation has a what I call fruit punch/ kool-aid accord in it. It’s got a punchy, juiciness about it throughout the duration of the scent that reminds me of like a spiked fruit punch. This smells like the perfumer was tasked with making vodka fruit punch smell like a wearable fragrance. Nice office scent, spray on clothes rather than skin to get a nice scent trail for about 4 hours.

non.operational

A nice freshie ruined by the sickly/creamy base. I expected the notes to include Tonka, but I guess the offending accord is amberwood.

NamertBaykus

Soapy, clean and fresh but well blended and it's not boring to me at all. The opening is a bit harsh and generic but in time it evolves into something much better with musk and amber while also retaining its fresh character.

Suitable for all occasions and every age. Most people wouldn't find it offensive except for the initial harsh, loud scent.

Steve907

Safe, versatile. But the headache factor and the price would have me reaching for Chic for Men by Carolina Herrera instead. It's lighter and cheaper but just as nice of a scent if not nicer.

Marssade

Now i tell you this...ask 100 girls if they prefer a scent like Y or the masterpiece we all believe in here la nuit de l homme ...just ask...Does this makes Y the better scent??? Yes it does!!! In the end, after having 150 scents you ll find that you will grab and go the LIGH BLUE, THE BLEU CHANEL, THE Y and anything generic...why??? Because they are the REAL MASTERPIECES ...(with the exception of ENCRE NOIR because this one is a LEGEND)..

Jade-Ange D

Ermm… I used this perfume the week after my dad died because I needed a strong scent, I use strong scents as a shell against days when I feel horribly bad or when I need to feel more charismatic.
But after that awful time, I couldn’t wear the perfume anymore since it started to cause me migraines. The scent even started to smell really bad (like… ham) with the intensity of the incense, the ginger and the Balsam Fir mixed with fruity notes such as Pineapple and Apple.
It smelt like a cheap deodorant for men, like the scorpio or the adidas ones that boys seems to use as a perfume and an alternative to the shower in high school… 2/10 if I should give it a note.

Atomikbomb_

This is definitely one that would be difficult to hate or even dislike, but I almost equally think it would be difficult for me to find it particularly alluring or moving in any meaningful way. Still, it's pleasant and I'd enjoy it on anyone passing by.

It's fresh, crisp and musky...befitting the color of the liquid perfectly. It has that synthetic ambergris that ends up just smelling like salt and fresh air, and everything is very balanced. I enjoy apple in men's fragrances more than women's, and the apple here is my favorite element of the entire scent. It has some aromatic spice, but it isn't typically gingery.

It really has a lot of things in small doses, and it's just a musky burst of random fresh stuff. It's somewhat soapy.

Violet leaf sometimes smells like pickles to me, but thankfully that isn't the case here.

I'd grab it at a discounted price, but wouldn't recommend anyone pay retail for it. It's decent, but a little forgettable.

iamdynamite

A frech clean, soapy fragrance that I think is plesant. The only problem I have with it is thats it's performance is very weak for it's price

Nauticus9

A fresh and clean fragrance that provides great versatility.

Just note that it can be super headache-inducing for some people. Its super safe and has that attraction factor. Super nice and light and isn't too harsh or cloying. The opening can be agressive, but give it some time and the drydown leaves your skin with a smooth and sweet smell. It lasts pretty well too. It's very meh for me. Not a big fan.

Shaybeige

I really don’t understand how this is so low rated. It’s nothing ground breaking but it’s clean, fresh, mass appealing. The aldehydes , apple and musk stand out to me but it’s very well blended.

Like pretty much all YSL fragrances, projection is low, so you will need to spray a good amount but longevity for me is about 5 hours.

I’d recommend it for anyone looking for a casual everyday scent.

Zeusy

Nice. Will be great for the daytime in summer. Will be kept for then or the odd day in the office.

Projects decent and lasts a good few hours on the skin.

Rated as good value as I paid £29 for this from boots. If it was the usual £60+ I'd of rated it lower.

thefreshzonetiktok

Used to be my everyday, now have PTSD from it. Please waste ur money on any other YSL cologne than this. Its basically a headache in a bottle. Super strong though and long lasting. I wouldn't say it smells BAD just the vibe it gives off is not a pleasant one. Its like the cologne is screaming at everyone when u wear it. Like an alcohol BLAST.

isakasyv

I mean its nothing extrodinary. But its a scent that comes in handy in situations where you want to give a good first impression!

allenb83

Theres no cedar, and no musk in this at all. The incense is next to non-existent also. I smell a tiny hint of mint and lemon behind the overpowering geranium and violet leaf. Both eventually give me a headache. Theres also something very synthetic about this one, like a heated plastic smell somewhere in the background. They probably tried to synthesize the pineapple and failed miserably at it. I got this as a sample and would never buy it.

Koyote44

I got a YSL Y 2017 100ml tester bottle as a gift, along with a 10ml sample of YSL Y 2022, for buying some eye cream, and face cream.
The 2017 version has a very nice and strong Violet note, I could feel it for an hour+ along with some aldehydes on the back, and a vague mix of mostly apple mixed with pinneaple that makes it sweet, and flares of geranium+ginger fading. The Violet in this one is VERY characteristic, and it fades into something lightly musky. GREAT for very hot weather.

The 2022 version obviously does not have this Violet scent, the Bergamot note is replacing it, and that´s why it lasts longer. It is not fresh as a lemon-ish fragrance like Allure Homme Edition Blanche, or Dior Homme Cologne, it is a tad heavy or a watered down version of the EDP, or the EDT Intense, so maybe better for spring than summer. Performance is good for 1 hour, decent for the next 1 hour, then is a skin scent evaporating in 2 hours, in a total of 4 hours is completely gone.

So you can have some 2017 Violet intense short fuse fragrance or a Bergamot low and steady long run fragrance. Choose according to your activities, day fragrances both, unless it is an extremely hot night.

digitalink

Y EDT is exactly what it sets out to be, a likeable, easy to wear fragrance that can be used anytime anywhere. Sure it may not be unique, but like other perfumes in the "shower gel" family that clean scent it just going to add to your appearance.

For me, Y opens slightly sweet and fruity thanks to the bergamot and apple. I don't detect the mint or at least not enough to get a cooling sensation as you might experience from Eros or CAHSE. Instead, it is warm, bright and soapy throughout.

As far as designer "blues" go, I would rank this above Dylan Blue, Bleu de Chanel and maybe on par with Sauvage. While I do prefer Y EDP of the this, I find this to be a great scent to wear at the gym.

Aditya chatterjee

Oh yes! This is the fragrance which perfectly suited for youth, young generation. From top notes to dry down its so perfectly blend that i wish it could last whole day😍, your loved one definitely give you compliments if you wear it because its too soothing to noses that everyone loves it.
BTW i am big fan of lenny Kravitz, he is the brand ambassador of the the ysl y so i grab it and its best blind buy till date for me.💯💌

miss_stinky

I would recommend this as a gift for a younger masc person. It definitely has a 18-22 yo on a night out vibe lol - no offense. I try to use up my fragrances so long as I don’t think they’re offensive so I will typically use it when I get out of the shower and I want to wear something but don’t want to use up my more curated scents.

6/10 pleasant, makes a nice gift for a teen or adolescent weaning off of AXE.

Salahuddin Hourani

i loved the smell, really, but the longevity is the main disadvantage

arefuthescroob

Something is too clashing in this perfume for me..

Afrikano

This was the fragrance that started my journey. Accidentally smelled it at a ulta and couldn’t figure out which on it was. Nose blind I bought Eros Flame by mistake and quickly realized it wasn’t it. Spent a week researching and finally recognized the smell again at the mall and found it. To me this is one of the most underrated fragrances now simply because it gets overshadowed by the EDP and Parfum version. I prefer this over the EDP because the EDP is too sweet for me whilst this is more fresh and can be worn pretty much year round. Definitely back up bottle worth and a 10/10 for me

Timyoungn304

Smell: Amazing
Performance: ABYSMAL!

Get the 2022 version if you’re after this one.

XOXO_marcel

Suuuuuper fruity freshie. A bit soapy, I think from the aldehydes. Pleasant and will make you feel squeaky clean. Not very memorable, but it achieves its purpose. This would probably be a safe blind buy.

BigBobRoss

Watery minty citrus with hints of green

Very fresh, Great for the summer months

Lacking in longevity

Dangler83

This is nice, but it smells like version of Invictus, but without the headache inducing power. I think this is great for the younger crowd.

wizkid04

This fragrance has pleasant smell, fresh and sweet nothing else. I’m on my late 20s, and to my liking this is a little too juvenile, high school or early college, but off course to each it’s own.

One big negative and reason why I sold my bottle is because I lost count of how many people that I work with wears this stuff, and I mean the ” Y collection”. EDT, EDP, eau Fraiche etc. They all smell similar in the air and I can immediately recognize the scent, I’ve even asked and every time I’m right, “YSL”. If we talk about overdone fragrances, I would take Sauvage any day over this.

wednesdaygirl

The apple and geranium come off pretty strongly on me and create a scent that's like rose, but slightly to the left. Reminds me of the late-20s early-30s big city workaholic woman that goes back to her hometown and meets a hunky fireman that helps her enjoy her summers again that's in like every Hallmark movie ever. Also reminds me of a department store employee. Sweet and mellow but bland. Pretty generic smell.

VIPMEN

how can we tell the difference (if there is one) between this new version and the older one? a different box?

Martin014

Really weak fragrance, it smells just like the edp but with less power. For the price I expected more, and it only last like 3-4 hours

JKeto

Too sweet, smells almost sugary. Otherwise it's ok, nothing remarkable.

smellsgreatbrowhatisit

A great office-friendly, summery scent. This was my signature scent for ~2 years, before running out. I prefer the smell of this over the 2022 version.

Works well on a masculine, confident man, as it leans towards being a unisex scent.

Kungsan

Had a bottle of this since a few years back didnt like it, tried it again and like it now.

Very clean metallic/smell last 5-6 hours in the heat summer time

Nice clean. Lattafa Fahkar better IMO

Laliqua

Yves Saint Laurent Y - This EDT smells fresh but really nothing special. It smells clean and it isn't too strong.

Scent: 7/10
Longevity: 6/10
Sillage: 6/10
Bottle: 5/10
Value for money: 6.5/10

compare to Fakhar Black Lattafa? YSL Y is more soft and attractive flowery green smell. Fakhar Black Lattafa has less density and vaporize quickly even if it's Extrait de parfum but worse than YSL Y

sam75

A big "No" for me, it smells like a basic Moroccan ensens,
for me ensens isn't meant to be a body perfume, but an ambiant smell on the air (on special occasions).
I wouldn't call it masculine either, it's unisex.
And lastly it's too agressive, too much in your face.

tylrmrtn98

I got this on sale at Macys for like 60 a while back. That’s the only reason I have it. This is nice but the EDP is this but deeper and can be used year round. I’d go for that over this. This is good like I said. The EDP is a better bang for your buck though. I use this mostly as a work/gym scent.

Crowseph

The reformulated 2022 version of Y EDT really does last well over 12 hours. I like most of the notes in it too--fresh and clean with the violet leaf, musk, and cedar standing out to me after the opening. There's definitely a stringent synthetic note to it too that I don't care for--someone compared it to the smell of new electronics, and that's an apt description. It doesn't make me dislike the fragrance, but it definitely holds it back from being a summer staple for me.

Overall, a long-lasting reformulation that is a fine choice for spring/summer. 7/10

Yessamin

This EdT starts with zesty citrus top notes for a touch of youthful confidence and drive.

larrykeithfrick

I just picked up the reformulated version (2022) of YSL Y today and while at the store since they had all the flankers along with it tried the EDP and others and this one stood out to me as the best smelling on paper of them all. I live in the tropics so its important to me to have something that is clean and fresh and will not overpower anybody and this fits the bill nicely. Top notes are citrus, bergamot, very fresh smelling with nothing coming across as harsh. Once the top notes wear off there's a musky, woody dry down that is very nice. I can see this as a daytime frag at the office, gym, shopping when you want something clean and fresh and not overpowering. As far as performance goes I'm not sure since I haven't tried it on my skin yet but at least on paper it's quite long-lasting. The 2022 reformulation seems to be better than the 2017 version at least to me. Will report back with some performance data once I've put it through some wear.

torturedsoulboy

This was amazing on paper and I made the mistake of not testing on skin, so I paid full price for a bottle since it is discontinued. On the skin it smells like cheap plastic. Will try to use it to tone down the EDP or might see if it smells better on clothes.

Opening is very basic bitch cheap scent, no alcohol picked up surprisingly.
Notes of green Apple, Bergamot, Spicy Ginger come into play. Surprisingly i do get the note of Ambergris, but i don't understand how they could add the real thing as it's so insanely expensive, but whatever they are using that note is nice, it makes the dna go 'airy' with a slight weird mature note that Ambergris is famously known for, reminds me of the same Ambergris found in YSL's Tuxedo.
Synthetic Mint & Lemon notes then appears.
Then Aldehydes, that make the fragrance mature & elegant.
A touch of white musk found in Aventus.
Very very light floral that im not familiar with, to create layers while maintaining a masculine vibe.
Violet leaves give it a very strong distinct scent to it's dna.
Something just slightly creamy in the background to calm all the other notes down.
I do get the note of pineapple, but im not sure if it's actually added with the White Musk or if it's just the olfactory playing tricks on me.
Sage to make it aromatic.
The smallest touch of Incense to give it slight smokiness, creating another layer to the dna.

Mid all the notes start to meld together to give it's final dna scent, and goes on the candy sweeter side.

The nose perfumer is VERY technical here and is really talented this note combo using all these ingredients, but also make them work together. The problem with this fragrance is that becomes strongly synthetically cloying in the end dry-off, and i eventually i couldn't handle it anymore and had to wash it off - twice!

I think this is a good dna scent actually, it just needed to be made with quality ingredients. It does a good job for the fresh/minty-lemon/white musk genre. Think Versace Eros + Creed Aventus had a baby with YSL's style of perfumery.
This is so strong on 4 sprays im sure it will last min. 6+ hours.

Fresh scent very clean.

fine scent i can’t always handle

Demus Anum

YSL Y EDT is so bright, fresh, clean, light, aromatic, airy, smoky caramelised sugar sweet . My most loved fragrance along with Dior Sauvage EDT, YSL La Nuit de L'Homme EDT, DG The One EDP.

Stoopid Phresh

This stuff smells nice but dammit its just something about this one annoying ass note that sticks out! That one note gives this fragrance a cheap quality- The parfum is much more refined and its the upgrade to this...this was the starter so it ok to mess up

GilbertGrand

Finally picked up a 60ml bottle of this. It's unfortunate it's being discontinued, because I was surprised by this fragrance.
I wasn't expecting too much of Y when I bought it (as all the reviewer say to get the EDP) but I was impressed. It's not crazy over the top, but it's quickly become my "dumb reach" fragrance over Azzaro Chrome.
It's fresh, uplifting, smells like a fancier soap (nothing like Prada L'homme soap or Artisan Pure soap). The whole drying process of this fragrance is nice too, all the layers are wonderful and work well together. The top and Base being my favorites. I'd give this a 6.8/10 not the best, but better than expected.

Bigmike650

Smells really nice👌🏽 Can’t see anyone not liking this. Great dumb reach fragrance for spring and summer.

HunterB10X

I really like this fragrance. It is PERFECT for 55-75 degree weather. I get 6-7 hours of performance with 5 sprays, which is just fine with me. It does pretty well in summer heat too. I like this one better than the EDP. Although, I’ve only worn the EDP for 1 full wear. I would give Y EDT a solid 8/10. And yes, I would recommend it for any season but winter.

chakukan

Fresh and Clean and perfect for spring :)

mkpunk

Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Y was a fragrance that I reviewed long before I owned it. Now, that is because I got the sample vials of it when it first came out. I did enjoy YSL Y but was always turned off on the pricing. I even got a clone of it, Lomani Why Not? Granted, that was more Invictus than I remembered YSL Y. It wasn't until I tried YSL Y Le Parfum again from a sample vial, and saw Y discounted heavily, that I finally bit the bullet.

YSL Y opens with a lot of aldehyde and citrus. In my original review, I stated how it does smell similar to Playboy New York due to the aldehyde and citric open. There is also some ginger uptop and a slight mint in there, but it isn't as sharp as most mints. Just like Playboy New York, YSL Y has an apple mid but unlike New York, there is a lot of violet to my nose. The base is a musky ambergris and cedar mix with a slight fir. To my nose YSL Y is an Invictus style scent mixed with Playboy New York, minus the Fierce components.

YSL Y performs best in spring, summer and even fall. It is a day scent due to it not being as strong as other fragrances in the mass market pack. While YSL Y isn't a bad performer by any means, there are a lot of fragrances similar to Y like Invictus that do perform better. YSL Y is a good casual and work scent. YSL Y I find lasts about six hours. It is a moderate sillage fragrance.

YSL Y sadly was discontinued and discounted to sell off the existing stock in 2022. At least the original formulation. This is due to the end of lilal or butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane in fragrance. For the original formulation, YSL Y gets a 7.6 from me. Far from the best in the Invictus mass market pack, but nice. If you didn't get it, don't rush out for it especially with inflated discontinued prices on the secondary market, though even full retail honestly you can do much better.

groover

There is actually a new YSL Y Edt released i just
tested it against the first release, the new one is
much denser and stronger and feels more
potent, i still have to wear them side by side to really
know for sure about longevity and projection, but i liked the new re release
so far.

Marty04

It looks like there is a new version of Y EDT.

fragrence_cutch

First fragrance I bought from a duty free before I got into collecting. Just bought two backup bottles from Ulta at 40% off and they’re super low in stock! RIP to my first fragrance that’s been discontinued :’( something to get used to I guess

Dumbplings

This is the best and only YSL Y that I actually like because it doesn't have the green notes in it, but of course they have to discontinue the best one just because some youtubers overhyped the worse flankers and now everyone buys them instead. This is the best from the Y line

Zizi518

I wanted to dislike this fragrance, because the idea of citrus ambroxan shower-gel like blue fragrances is just so overdone at this point. But YSL's take on that DNA is surprisingly nice and unique. In fact I had to get myself a bottle of both the EDT and EDP lol. This has a very modern, refine feel. It opens with a bright & fresh & sharp aldehydic citrusy notes, and a big dose of sweetness from apple and some other notes. It's refreshing, piercing and synthetic (not in a bad way at all). There's also a slightly spicy touch from ginger. Feels very green and lively, and slightly herbal with the sage note which is an unique touch. As it dries down it becomes more woody, a little smokey, and more subtle. A good amount of ambroxan but not as heavy as BDC/Sauvage/Dylan Blue. I think this measures up to those fragrances really well. It's the sweetest take on the DNA, in addition to the fresh components, makes it very crowd pleasing. At the same time it's also the most unique and recognizable out of the bunch at least to my nose. It's more elegant than Sauvage but not quite as serious as BDC.

This was on sale at Sephora for $40/100ml and at that price it's great value. But if you have to pay more than that get the EDP. It's a much improved version. More depth, more classy, way better dry down, better composition overall and lasts twice as long.

This isn't a groundbreaking fragrance but we already knew that. For what it is, I have to say YSL nailed this. It does what it does so well. It's so easy to reach for and is extremely pleasant and versatile.

I wonder if this is discontinued? Guess we’ll never know.

MothRah

Discontinued.. Heads up: 40% off on Ulta's website as of right now if you're interested. Just picked up 2oz bottle for $49. Not for the boyfriend, but for me lol. Love this scent. Am a bit sad it's being DC'd.

Steven221283

Just to confirm, this one is being discontinued. Currently in 'Final Production' and this is confirmed by YSL. So if you're a fan, get your hands on a backup bottle.

Anyways - very nice fragrance, but the performance isn't too good on this one. Only lasts a few hours on my skin. If you like it but want it to perform well, buy the EDP. They're very similar scents but the EDP performance is miles ahead.

whitekid3

i wanted to add another blue type fragrance to my collection, and this was on deep discount about 40% off at Macy's ... nice citrus opening and then floral dry down ... smells very pleasant and clean, like you just washed your clothes ... i actually prefer the edp because it's sweeter and even more pleasant to the nose ... however, if the price ain't right, i ain't buying it ... obviously, i enjoy the scent, i'll follow up after a few wearings

Tenacious1

Very nice and sweet freshie. I prefer this over the EDP version. Smells and works great in the FL heat. I'm not sure why I seem to be in the minority in preferring it over the EDP.

gxbjw

Dries down to be a lackluster version of the EDP. Apple, ginger and and sage is very prominent, it’s just a fresher, greener and less sweet compared to its counterpart.

Like seriously, the difference is very minimum, so much so that I really don’t see the point of buying this iteration of Y while the EDP and Le Parfum version is available.

The performance is also a fraction of the EDP’s. With all due respect, just skip this one.

MothRah

I had a sample of this a little bit ago and I fell in love with it. My plan was to let my bf test it out as he doesn't really care to wear cologne, but hadn't really tried any that he liked either. I loved this one so much that I just wore it myself. Although it's been a while since I've run out of the little test vial, I keep thinking about purchasing a bottle. Perhaps I will this summer, as it is certainly suited to be a gorgeous warm weather scent. I am a little surprised that not many people find this to be unisex. It is pretty sweet. But as always, we can all wear what we like!

Materia

Pleasant smelling fragrance, inoffensive, and beautiful in the air. 8+ hours on my skin perfect for spring, the office, school , and any other situation you could think of.

edifier

I bought Y EdT when it was released in 2017 and received a sample of Y EdP recently. Comparing them on each wrist over a couple of hours, I thought the EdT is more versatile, has the classier dry down and is the better scent overall. The EdP has a cleaner opening, better longevity, is sweeter, and probably garners more compliments, but I do not love its dry down which is too dense for me and overstays its welcome.

Even though the EdP is much more popular than the EdT, they are basically 90% similar and I do not believe a master perfumer like Ropion made a mistake with the EdT, which is his vision for a YSL blue fragrance. Y EdP was possible only due to the criticisms of the EdT but I do not think that it is the better or best version of the Y line. Even though its performance may be mediocre, the EdT is more complex than even Y Le Parfum. Just spray more of it.

ApexCN

It doesn't smell bad, just a clean inoffensive scent but it barely lasted 3 hours on me. It is a safe scent but I highly recommend the edp over this.

User123

I mean, it smells good, but it reminds me a bit of cleaning products.

TJ1997

My trustee interview fragrance. Why? It's safe, fresh, and does the job it's designed to do. Nothing offensive but nothing unique about it either. It's kind of a dumb reach fragrance because it works so easily. The opening is bright and fresh with the aldehydes being pronounced. Dries down to a slight musky and woody scent. 6-8 hours depending on the climate.

Good for the office, interviews, and casual warm-weather days.

A safe, fresh, option. A good fragrance to keep in your car on the go. Nothing spectacular but that’s okay. A decent option to casually wear in warm weather.

Corspin

I'm writing this review after trying the EDT, EDP, live and le parfum and I'll try my best to compare them as objectively as I can.

I own the EDT and EDP, and the le parfum and live I have tried multiple times from a sample.

All of the fragrances of this series are some of my favorites. Even though these fragrances are from the same series, it would be a mistake to assume they're the same.

Overall, their openings are similar, going for a fresh, natural and aromatic smell and all of them are great actually. They also have the same vibe, going for a natural walk in the forest idea. However they present you with a bit of a problem that if you would only try them for a short while it would be hard to notice any differences.

The differences start when you get to the drydown. Each one has a different note in the drydown that has the major role. The drydowns also have a very different level of warmth to it which makes them suitable for different occasions or climates.

Openings:

If I had to choose, I would say the the le parfum has the best opening. It's deeper than the others and very intense.

The EDP probably has the least stunning opening because there are no aldehydes in this one. The opening is still good however.

The EDT has a more fresh opening but it lacks the intensity of the way the notes envelop you at the start like the le parfum does.

The live version has an opening that is a bit unique compared to the others as it contains some added sweetness. Besides this, the store I bought this from has different info on the notes, those being: Top: Bergamot, lemon, ginger. Middle: Orange Blossom, geranium, sage. Base: Cacao, tonka bean, juniper. I think fragrantica is wrong on this one because there is definitely tonka bean in this one.

Drydowns:

Here the EDP is in my opinion the best. It really encapsulates the walking in a spring forest vibe extremely well with the natural and woody scents. Especially the amberwood in the drydown is just too good. The only bad thing that I have to say is that if you compare the EDP to the le parfum that the EDP is a lot less noticeable, which is weird because by itself it is my favorite. I would argue this is because the drydown of the le parfum has stronger smells.

The drydown of the le parfum is the most warm scent of the series. The other ones go more for a fresh drydown but the le parfum does no such thing. It's more of a wood and mild spicy kind of smell, resulting from the ceder and tonka bean notes. I say mild spice because they have a certain softness to it. In this sense it's also pretty different compared to the other ones. The le parfum is clearly the most long lived as well. My only issue with the le parfum is that the woody-spicy-tonka bean smell is kind of predictable but that doesn't mean it's bad.

The EDT is the more fresh. It is also the one I would prefer wearing in very warm weather. The musk note is very noticeable in the drydown and a nice addition. The musk is also not too dominating (which often happens) and well balanced with the other ingredients. The projection and longevity of this drydown is a bit weaker compared to the other ones. There is nothing wrong with the quality itself, it's more that your nose gets used to certain smells so if you own multiple of this series you might want to consider spraying some extra to make sure you get this one.

The live version has a drydown that trades the slight woody smell from EDP for some added sweetness and freshness. After about an hour to 2 hours the smell can be very dense if you smell it up close so maybe don't spray too much, or take that as an indication that you have good projection, you choose. The EDT is also fresh but I would say this one more so and I actually like that a lot. The added sweetness however is another story, I would argue that it limits it's potential because it makes this one a lot less classy than the other fragrances in the Y line. It's a more straightforward smell and it doesn't have the depth the other ones do but it does smell amazing.

Overall (for me personally):
1. EDP
2. le parfum
3. Live
4. EDT

The EDP is my favorite, it gives you the vibe that this scent was made for perfectly. That being said, the other ones are good too and they can be more suitable depending on the occasion or weather.

The le parfum I would highly recommend as well. The warmness of the smell really takes it into a different direction than the other ones. I'm definitely picking this one up if I can get a good price on it, if that means anything to you readers.

The live I would recommend in warm weather or for young people or on a night out given that the projection packs quite a punch. The sweetness makes it less suitable for formal occasions however. I'm not sure whether I'll buy one because I'm not sure what I should do with it yet, but maybe.

The EDT I would recommend in warmer weather if you want something more professional than the live version. The freshness of the EDT can't be denied and I'll still be using this a lot on formal occasions.

If you're still with me after this wall of text, thanks for reading!

bleukreuz

I initially own the EDP because EDP is the one everyone hyped. However I found the EDP to be too dense and heavy, and unfortunately can be suffocating in warmer climate. The EDT however, is just right for me. I would suggest giving the EDT a try if you are in the same position as me. I did just that and I was happy I finally have YSL Y that I can use on daily basis. I will reserve the EDP for colder weather or nights :)

ForestOfFragrances

I too, don't understand the hate. It's a safe scent alright, but it also has a bit of character and smells sophiscated. It's a little sweet, a little woody, and has the attractiveness and versatility to be worn in any season and occasion.

That said, I have yet to try the EDP. But by itself, the EDT is worth a shot.

classic.pder

Dumb reach, safe to wear in most environments (see: workplace) because it dries down to a skin sent on me after 1.5 hours. Drydown reminds me of Sydney Rock Pool by Arquiste with less coconut (an improvement IMHO).

This juice is not too expensive, so I say spray liberally and spray often?
Is it a bit boring, yes?
Are you sure to smell "nice", also yes!

Wish this had more woodiness

DanSmellznice

This fragrence can get all the hate it wants in the frag community, however, I've never seen a woman more entranced and seduced by a fragrance than I have with Y edt. If we're talking performance, i like the edp, if its overall scent then it would be the edt.

Eclectorina

You may be surprised to hear my mother wears this. I gave it to her because she likes skin scents, flowers, if sweet then light sweet, and fresh. Her signature must have been Miss Dior in the eighties. She likes this! And it's very pretty on her.

The only reason I don't wear it myself is I find the last stages of it just a bit too dry, in a crisp manner, which isn't really captivating for me personally, and why I would hit pass on it for a lover if I could choose his scent.

I like the opening very much though, the fruitiness is really cosy in summer. Perhaps it takes a musky male to wear it right, to be addictive. And a nolo mohito.

What a weird post on this hyped scent. I do like it though, it reminds me a of YSL Saharienne.

MrKreyon

The drydown blows me.

corianderbean

This is a safe scent. Initial spray reminds me of D&G Light Blue but then dries down to something kinda herby. It's a good scent if you like the D&G Light Blue but want something more interesting.

Halian

A steely scent that is mild & safe for all ocassion. Nothing edgy or intrusive, just harmonious bluish notes like the whiff of breeze you would inhale on mountainous valley during spring. After a while, you will experience a fruity-floral sensation, but you can't really claim that it's elegant or sophisticated.

I used Invictus Aqua before; Y may fall under the same category, but less candylicious than the former.

A great perfume? No. A good perfume? Yeah, something you can wear during a job interview.

Aqua Velveeta

Call me crazy, but the EDT is the only member of the Y line that is of any interest to me. The EDP everyone deems the best of the Ys smells like someone trying desperately to be all things to all people; whereas the mint (or something else) in the EDT gives it a light, herbal skankiness that makes it far more unique and likable to me. I think the EDT has more in common with PdM Sedley than its EDP bro, and that's a good thing. Maybe I'm missing something, but all the Y EDP praise feels like gaslighting. I hate the EDP but really enjoy the EDT.

cplively

What an excellent line this fragrance started. With the EDP and Le Parfum versions being so incredible, I can understand why it's overlooked. It wears a good bit lighter than those, so I think it's a better Spring Time choice, though with the freshness Le Parfum has, you'd be well served with that one too. I still think Eau Fraiche is the high heat choice, though I think the original EDT would still be solid.
Where the EDT really shines is in an office environment. Of the 'Blue' Fragrance lines from the major mainstream houses, I think Y EDT is in the upper echelon when it comes to an office fragrance. It's not too loud and easy to pull off in any season.

PierreLouis

@PaulShalom exactly my impression, in particular Invictus Aqua, so also MontBlanc Legend Spirit and Beckham Classic Touch.

PaulShalom

I love the scent but it wasn't until after I bought a bottle of the EDT and EDP version that I realized it's really just a clone of Invictus.

krazyrandy

I like the scent. It smelled really good at first but unfortunately it does not last a long time on my skin. For the price you pay it should last longer or be cheaper. Sprayed 6x and after an hour its barely skin scent.

HARDSTYLE916

The aldehydes and incense is a no for me. Y EDP on the other hand is a banger.

Teddylah

This is very fresh. A light blue fragrance as this doesn't project too far. Lasts about 5-6 hours and sits close to the skin after 1 hour. Nice for hotter days and the office. 7/10.

Appalachia

Smells to me like sexy blueberries. This juice will bring in plenty of compliments. I have to go pretty heavy on the atomizer to get a satisfactory projection out of it. I'd highly recommend this one for everyday casual wear, especially for a casual day at the office. So far, this is the most complimented Fragrance I own.

KKick

I love YSL Y EDP so much, it's got everything I want. The EDT however is... I don't know. The opening reminds me of those things they use to mask the smell in a public mensroom. I don't like to be hard on perfumes because preferences differ, but when your EDT has more in common with a urinoir deodorizing block than with your EDP flanker, it definitely doesn't do it for me.

john_nezis

Tested from a sample, it smells uninteresting and very neutral to me. Performance was absent, at least on my skin, and this is strange as my skin holds fragrance very well.

sebseb

I hate ambergris so much. I can't stand it. Smells too much like Invictus to me and ambergris is nauseaiting to me and totally different than ambroxan which is not intoxicating sweet, it's transparent.

Ambroxer

I’ve explored most of the Y flankers and figured it was time to check out the original. I hadn’t heard very many good things about the EDT, just that it was generic and forgettable. Having now had the chance to sample for myself, I really kind of like it. Y opens with aldehydes, lemons, bergamot and geranium, which give a bright, happy, soapy, citrus, floral sensation. It’s very refreshing and feels a bit effervescent, like sparkling flavored water. Soon after, a pinch of ginger is added for a little spice while ambergris helps everything simmer in the base. This all comes together as a clean, easy to wear fragrance well suited to a variety of casual and professional settings. Y gives the sense of being lighter and brighter than other fragrances it is often compared to, so expect a bit more of a well laundered confidence while wearing it.

I own Y Eau Fraiche, and while I like it and think it has its place, find myself wishing I could swap it for this EDT. Y is plenty fresh on its own and has better performance. I also think it works better as a fragrance whereas Eau Fraiche is more a balm to counteract the effects of a hot, sweaty day. The EDP is still the best in my mind, sweeter, darker, longer lasting, but definitely carries over the DNA found here. And nothing more needs to be said about how appealing and versatile this DNA is.

Y EDT. It’s worth a second look and worthy of a reevaluation of what it brings to the table.

Massimo.Frag

Really like the sage note here, very fresh, very clean, good scent.

cbrewerton

I do not understand the negative reviews on this one. It is an awesome blue fragrance that does not smell like Sauvage, Dylan Blue, or Bleu de Chanel. It smells more crisp and fresh, probably due to the aldehydes. It has a lightness to it that makes it more versatile and less sharp than other blue fragrances. Great for casual warm days, the gym, or even an awesome office scent.

TouchGem22

Masculine and juicy. Simply put

nebuladirt

I get a pencil shavings note when I first spray it and honestly, I'm not mad at it. It does dry down to a nice fresh/aquatic scent at the end.

BigWhiff

Received a sample of this in the mail yesterday. Sprayed 1 spray on the back of my hand. The opening was just ok. Wasnt good or bad just meh. Mid dry down was super synthetic in a bad way. Couldnt detect any notes just chemicals. A little after an hour this became a scrubber. It smelled like a high school locker room after football practice. A group of sweaty teenage boys trying to mask their stank with cheap body spray. It was nauseating. I love YSL Lhomme, La Nuit De Lhomme and their flankers but I just cannot get on the Y wagon. Third sample from the Y line and they all suck imho. Im just thankful I didnt blind buy this.

seldomseen

C'mon....YSL Y is a lovely smelling, all purpose, people-pleasing, mass-appealing, invigorating, feel-good, spring/summer fragrance that every man should own---even if you're a niche-head! YSL Y is a safe blind buy... if you like aquatic, citrus, or freshie type fragrances that have a high-quality scent composition/characteristic.

Overall: 8/10 - The bottom-line. Upfront reality is. YSL Y does what it's supposed to do. Very well.

FYI - the entire Y line are bangers!

Tamlin

Opens up with a blast of fresh apple, which is nice, but as it dries down the ambergris takes over and to my nose that makes the freshness disappear and makes it turn almost a bit funky and dirty...

Ambergris really isn't my jam, I'm afraid. So this is a pass for me. I'd much prefer the EdP.

Katabetha

classically fresh and very airy.

Scotty123

I purchased Y EDP a couple days ago, and along with it came a sample of Y EDT, I’m kinda getting out of the whole hardcore fragrance game as fragrances are getting to expensive and just aren’t performing anymore, so I’m looking to find a nice EDT and EDP of the same brand, one for days and one for nights, I really enjoyed the Y EDP so I gave the EDT a shot and as soon as I smelled it I immediately thought I have this fragrance already I think? I go to my closet and ruffle through all my fragrances and smell them and sure enough to my surprise it was one my wife had gotten me from B&BW last year for my bday and it was Atlantic. I was like wow, they’re so very very similar it’s unreal. Needles to say I’ll be using that one more often now as I really enjoy the Y line and will probably still purchase this Y EDT regardless and just use the EDT in the summer days and the EDP in the summer nights. But for anyone on a serious budget who likes and enjoys this Y EDT and just can’t come up with the money B&BW Atlantic is for you.

This fragrance is amazing, honestly. It gets a lot of hate, and I'm not sure why. It's definitely similar to the likes of Dylan Blue, but to me it's a little lighter. The lemon and apple make this a PERFECT summer wear. This is going to be my go-to in the summer for sure. I love clean, blue fragrances but this just adds a little bit more summeriness to the scent. It's also professional enough to wear to work and other formal events. This is a great all around scent. I almost didn't pick this up due to the negative reviews but I'm really glad I did. The drydown is a little sweeter and more balanced than the opening. I also got the EDP which I do think is a bit better in terms of an all around scent - it's a little less summery, but this one still is amazing. This thing lasts awhile too, I sprayed it on about 5 hours ago and I'm still picking it up. 8/10

Yves Saint Laurent Y Live Intense EDT opens with a strong projection of sweet, citrus, spicy, fruity, smoky, green, and musky notes. The opening is unique, refreshing, delectable, intense, bright, and versatile. The bergamot, lemon, ginger, mint, apple, pineapple, incense, and aldehydes are the opening prominent notes. The lemon, bergamot, pineapple, and apple create an intense, sharp, and delicious fruity citrusy note, both, the bergamot and pineapple are slightly more prominent. The mint and ginger are also noticeable, cooling green, spicy, sharp, and fresh. Along with these notes, the aldehydes are a prominent note, a complex note, with a soapy, musky, lemony, floral airy, clean, and fresh nuances, very projecting. As time passes, the initial citrus intensity calms down a bit, meanwhile, the incense, vetiver, ambergris, develop adding a smoky, fresh green, and musky accord. The musk is projecting and adds a fresh slightly lemony touch but it is inoffensive. The cedar and violet leaf, are the last noticeable notes, a fresh woody note, and ozonic accord, respectively. At this point, the intensity of the fragrance has taken a step down from strong to moderate. Once Yves Saint Laurent Y Live Intense EDT has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, musky aldehydes, spicy ginger, mint, fruity, pineapple, apple, bergamot, smoky incense, green vetiver, and woody fragrance with ozonic accords. The fragrance feels aldehydic, blue, casual, comforting, delectable, diurnal, energizing, exotic, fresh, fruity, green, high-quality, inviting, masculine, modern, musky, nicely-blended, playful, rare, rich, seductive, sour, sweet, unique, versatile, wild, woody and very pleasant.

VERSATILITY: 9/10. A great fragrance for casual wear.
GENDER: Masculine. Its spicy and smoky notes create a small tilt to the masculine side.
AGES: Any.
RECOMMENDATION: Yves Saint Laurent Y Live Intense EDT can be found for about $75. Its longevity could be better but It is a bestselling fragrance and for a good reason. This is a great buy.
BLIND-BUY: No, sample both Yves Saint Laurent Y Live Intense EDT and Yves Saint Laurent Y Life Parfum.
SIMILAR: Yves Saint Laurent Y Live Intense EDT is a close relative of Yves Saint Laurent Y Life Parfum, both are great fragrances. Y Live Intense has a sharper fruity opening with the pineapple being the prominent note, but these fruity tones lose some of their intensity once the fragrance has reached its dry-down. Y Parfum has less fruity tones but the bergamot and apple are well combined with the juniper berry which continues into the dry-down. Y Live Intense has an airy touch, Y Life Parfum does not; Y Live Intense has an intense opening, Y Live Parfum has an intense dry-down. If you must choose one, choose Y Live Parfum. These are examples of other fragrances in the same genre.

This one for some reason, if you apply a descent amount of fragrance on you, blends amazingly with the scent of a fresh brand new black leather jacket. Once more i had this experience and it was with john varvatos the original scent. Grear smell, great fragrance.

KeishaDiamonds713

Girlie girl here!!
I got this because a girl on Tiktok said she mixes it with DIOR J’adore in joy. I am enjoying it with juicy couture or Tom Ford noir de noir. The soap smell plus the warm gourmands make this truly unique

TapputiKaputi

Metal, salt, water, sky. Synesthetic royal blue. It’s 1999 and you have crossed the olfactory line to the men’s side of the department store. Touch all of the cashmere sweaters, listen to the tissue paper crinkle. The scent opens to ginger, bergamot, detergent, vetiver. Rub your cheek on an alpaca scarf. Smell that royal blue sky. Immure yourself in masculine tenderness forever.

Mokingbirdzz

one of my favourite scents alongside my signature yellow diamond, ima citrus boi

Chiodi108

This cologne gives me a migraine every time. Not a fan.

greenieman

Smells like laundry detergent. Yet I still like it for some reason. I’m not so sure why, but it just smells so clean and easy. Kind of boring and one dimensional, but I actually think I enjoy it. I would give it a 7/10

dereynolds01

Gotten lots of compliments from both men and women. Pretty satisfied and personally love the way it smells myself

caifan

Y by Yves Saint Laurent it is an aromatic and woody fragrance, with a not very original aroma, but pleasant.

At its opening it reminded me of a little Bleu de Chanel, with that slightly harsh incense and citrus sensation, but enhanced by aldehydes, those first few minutes are interesting and enjoyable. Over time the fragrance becomes more floral and musky, with some woods, which make it very close to being an aquatic fragrance, something like Light Blue Pour Homme by Dolce & Gabbana or Versace Pour Homme.

Its aroma feels of good quality although its sillage is weak, but in duration it was quite good, since it lasted half a day. Obviously this part is subjective.

I think this fragrance is easy to the taste of the general public.

I like most of the YSL fragrances but in this case for its price I prefer Bleu de Chanel EDT, in Mexico they have almost the same price.

The bottle is beautiful and very elegant.

FrescoScents

Honestly this one is over looked, it's a blue fragrance but a high quality one. Simple, fresh, Aromatic citrus bomb. This is the type of scent that garnishes compliments. If that's what you're looking for, this is a sure hit.

danomar13

Amazing opening, meh dry notes. Like most fresh / citrus fragrances, YSL's Y doesn't pertain its original citrusy smell after 2 - 3 hours. Some people state that the performance is questionable, I personally find it to be 'ok' but not vigorous. Definitely gets more hate than it deserves but in my opinion is still not a masterpiece. I personally think it is also overpriced so if you are able to get a good deal on it, you won't be disappointed but for full retail you can get waaay better performing and smelling cologne. Preferably buy the EDP over this.

LeSuedois

Fresh, aromatic, smooth, classy, discreet. This is a really good fragrance for spring, summer and fall. It comes close to being a signature fragrance for me, because you can easily use it when you work. It is very unobtrusive, which I would say is a feature, not a bug.

dglightblue

Nice! Fresh, aromatic, pineapple is there, this one is a smidge lighter and sweeter than the edp of same name. This is a bit more wet than the edp, which leans fresh aromatic woody edt, is completely unisex and I’m getting it to layer it.
This rounds uot a bit more and has aromatics, eraser, aromatic type fruit which are juicy but not overly fruity, a fuzz in the background, light but decent.

After wearing this since the day it was released, I've decided to review my forever-signature cologne. I can't tolerate any more hate for this masterpiece.
Yves Saint Laurent 'Y' is crispy, fresh and sweet. The most detectable accords to me are; aldehydes, green apple, mint, pineapple, ambergris and vetiver.
I use it alongside the YSL 'Y' aftershave spray and the deodorant, yes; I'm thát serious about it. It lasts the entire day and longer on clothes. I have around 65 colognes in my collection, and 'Y' is the only one my girlfriend loves. I've bought the Yves Saint Laurent 'Y' EDP a year ago, but she will recognize the difference immediately when worn. Both are very similar but the EDP is heavier and sweeter with the tonka bean and olibanum.
I'm so impressed with the creativity of this scent; it smells like the fresh air in the Alps or what Fiji water should smell like. To say short; air, water and fruit. It is my safe and happy scent. Everyone I know has complimented me on this cologne and everyone knows me for wearing it. I sometimes wish I was the only one in the world wearing 'Y'. When I die, drench me in it. I recommend testing 'Y' out before buying, it is definitely special and not what you would expect from the YSL house.

Sebzillax

Very nice fresh citrusy opening, but rather quickly fades into a boring plain smell. It is very much a summer fragrance and perhaps that's why i'm not really that into it, as i'm smelling it here in november in the northern hemisphere (8 degrees celsius). Again, the opening is fantastic but it very much lacks in the dry down and it's definitely not worth paying full price for, in my eyes. I'll have to revisit it in the spring next year, but for now this is my experience of it.

If you want something a little more spicy, yet still fresh and good on a hot summer day, i would point you in the direction of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Intense. I'm personally not a huge fan, but it seems to be well recieved by the fragrance community, so i think it's worth a try.

Kuldeep S

It has a great fruity sweetness. In opening it is almost like unriped mango.

ginandrice

Starts quite similar to the EDP, but fades much, much quicker into a vague airy sweetness that's a bit powdery. It's pleasant enough, but I prefer the EDP, with its tart, juicy green apple bite, and then the powdery sweetness underneath.

Caldrumr

This doesn't smell like a fragrance to me. I don't really get any notes.
It just smells like a mess of chemicals. Very artificial, sharp chemical smell.
This is a hard pass for me.

Bulldada

It smells quite a lot like Azzaro Tonic, but with a strong ginger vibe. All in all a great cologne suitable for 20 somethings. Doesn't last very long, which is fine, because as a 20 something, neither do you. lol.

MarkoK87

What is wrong with people here ?? This is an amazing fragrance, I like it even more than EDP version...10/10

amon3030

A linear combo of Aldehydes and Musk which isn't a smart idea. This is awful!

Sniff away

Just buy Adidas ice dive or Avon elite gentlemen weekend. They smell almost the same y -ysl , and they last around the same time .If you want to save some money.

ROMANOV1101

I love this perfume. This ideal for the day and spring-summer season. I can detect the Bergamont, aldehydes, and mint is very refreshing. I have approximately30 perfumes and the aroma of this one is different. In my opinion reminds me of ZEGNA Z. Zegna Z I like it but the longevity is short. I am gonna buy a big bottle. YSL you did a good job!

juiced

Let me just start by saying that the amount of dislikes on this fragrance is clearly out of whack. There is absolutely nothing polarizing about this scent. Not even Fahrenheit or Le Male (which in my opinion are love or hate scents) have as many dislikes.
I recently treated myself to a new bottle for the summer and out of the 100 or so they had on display, I boiled it down to this one and Dior Homme ( although the Invictus Aqua was definitely in the mix).
The opener is noticeably strong with Bergamot. The best way I can describe it is like an even more bitter and musky grapefruit scent. That might not sound very appealing in words, however it’s a very regal and classy scent. The cedar and pineapple come together to create not a fresh pineapple aroma, but rather an enjoyable sweet pineapple cake scent. It’s very feint and not too sweet though.
Of all the base notes, musk is the most present and again, it’s very delicate and balanced.
If I had to boil this one down in order of presence I would say:
Bergamot
Musk
Pineapple/Cedar
Overall I’m very pleased with this purchase and will most likely purchase again.

peonies and musk

I'm a woman, and as much as I'd love to smell this on a man, I might end up buying a bottle for myself. It just pulls me in, I don't know. It reminds me of Versace Eau Fraiche (which I am also enamored by) and strangely it bears some resemblance to CK IN2U For Her as well. On the drydown, it's smelling like Light Blue on my skin.

Sniff away

This is a very dry ,sharp , herbal , and bitter smelling fragrance . The only sweetness I can detect is from the apple used at the beginning. I get a lot of sage, some violet and ginger in the mix then a woody ceder drydown. It doesn't project far and has average longevity. Unfortunately I don't like this fragrance it's just not my style, although it's different from the mainstream fragrance's that are on the market these day's.

m24norcal

I've never been able to put my finger on why I like this fragrance.

My first impressions were 'sharp, pungent...but not in a bad way'. I feel like I'm getting a lot of sour green apple, but blended quite well with citrus and a gaggle of other scents.

This is not a fragrance an older man wears to project power - this is a younger man with a playful attitude. It's not exactly a 'club' fragrance like Eros. I could see a young professional wear this as a way to project his playful, youthful zeal. Its odd, flamboyant composition makes it a tad rebellious in the genre of 'Blue' fragrances. A female friend smelled this and excitedly exclaimed; "It's like a Britney Spears fragrance, but masculine!" Take that how you want to (she loved it, btw).

I understand why it is so divisive. It can come off like the neon mutant descendant of Acqua di Gio. It's not, as its polarized reaction demonstrates, mass appealing...but I think it's brilliant for the right kind of guy. I find its negative reaction to be a tad bit of pearl clutching at YSL 'daring' to do something so 'gauche'. 'Y' is meant for guys in their 20s and 30s, it's an excuse for YSL to venture into new territory - perhaps free of the YSL baggage. Sorry ADG Profumo/La Nuit de l'Homme dude, maybe this one is not 'meant' for you. 'Y EDT' needs a fun, somewhat bratty attitude to pull off. When I wanna feel 'respectable', I can put on some YSL 'L'Homme Ultime'.

I still recommend most guys try this out in some way, it'll either 'spark' with you, or it won't. Don't let its divided reputation scare you off...this might be exactly what you're looking for.

marcel2782

The smell here is the sweeter of its aimed competitors (Chanel Bleu EDT and Dior Sauvage EDT), it's almost sickening sweet. From the bunch, this is also the most "blended-juice"-like, where none of the notes can be felt autonomously, but only all at the same time, and you can only identify notes by approximation, and not by pinpointing it out of the smell, because that would be impossible and even dishonest to say one could do it. Poor silage for maybe 1h and average longevity. Y EDT is worthy of comparison with Bleu EDT and Sauvage EDT ONLY BECAUSE they're in the same ballpark in terms of proposal - this predominantly fruity/clean/ambery-fresh/blue thing with close to zero depth. BUT, they're LEAGUES distant in terms of quality. From the three, Yves Saint Laurent works with the worst quality material - the inferiority is palatable. Hating and disliking, my friends, is not the last, but the very first sign that one has moved on from something, and this deserves being surpassed and forgotten, This feels like it's SO excessively constructed NOT to displease anyone that it backfired and accomplished exactly the opposite. Like that excessively submissive, kind and playful type of boy that is always trying and approaching and lingering to please a girl he likes in order to gain her heart and, by doing that, only achieves her absolute and forever-nausea and irrevocable-depreciation.

Cologneguy20

A beautiful fragrance with nothing to hate about it. I wear this day/night during the whole year.design is a 5☆.smell is 5☆Value is great if you go to a discounter which is a 5☆. Longevity is 7hrs which is long lasting for me 5☆. Overall 5☆

mcadamsfile

Definitely an odd scent.

arhamtausif

Smells great, fresh and pleasant. It's a very bright and green freshie, if that makes sense. But it's nothing special and doesn't smell unique to me. Dry down reminds me a lot of D&G Light Blue and Versace PH.

The musk, vetiver and cedar in the dry down also remind me of Issey Miyake's L'eau D'Issey Pour Homme. So yeah, a safe, compliment getting fragrance. Good quality juice. Decent performance. But nothing unique.

Hoping the EDP is better, because it's on my list and if it smells a bit darker and has more depth, I'll get it to replace Dylan Blue in my collection.

realmarkvon

For me, this is a white musk and aldehyde bomb. It comes off very "dry" without a better way to say it. I don't think it smells like anything Armani, Versace, Burberry, Chanel or Dior are carrying.

I had a sample and wore it out to a bar and within 20 minutes one girl said I smell "really fresh" -this was unsolicited. I asked another girl for her number and her friend said, "Give it to him, he smells good!"

Not the craziest reactions I have received from fragrances, but definitely positive. I didn't end up buying a full bottle, but I will buy the deodorant for the gym.

Yukio Okumura

I get calone, very calone with aldehyde, then it gets hot, smoky, I think it should have solar notes, because it refers to the heat, it is hot and smoky, but with a light fruity background and smoky with a light sweet too .

Savatage79

Great scent, I love the edp and live alot as they are my 2 favorites. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I love what the original Y brings to the table, its just an amazing scent to me. And it's no slouch in the performance department, but I wear this when I want to throw Y on but not necessarily bring out the big guns in the edp and my new addition of Y Live.

Beautiful dry down on this as well. And as for the uniqueness aspect it is very unique, I have hundreds of bottles and none of them smell like Ysl Y.

Dean ja

Nice, fresh and safe scent. Drydown is very close to Versace PH. Nothing groundbreaking.

Y= 40% Versace Pour Homme + 40% Invictus Aqua + 20% Chrome Azzaro

The Quid Pro Quo

Intriguing scent. Wore this for the second time today after having enjoyed my first wear over New Years. Strangest thing however: as I’m working away in my office toward the end of the day, I suddenly picked up on a note that hinted of low tide. Is that even possible? I found it rather unpleasant after an overall very nice day of wearing this scent.

Asylumin

For my taste its better than EDP version. The ozonated side of this is so pleasant. EDP fits for nightlife, EDT is for daytime, however both are loved by women. Longevity is moderate 5-6 hours with 2 hours of detectable sillage.
Anyway I would prefer the EDT version because of it projects a calmer, more confident vibe.

alabangcute

I was at duty-free today and was wondering what was that smell that was so sweet and cloying. Then I went over to the YSL counter and tested the much-praised Y fragrance EDT (by YouTubers). Verdict: It's just too sweet to be considered a masculine fragrance. Lol.

AJ1515

I like this the more I wear it. This is more unique than other blue fragrances: I get a lot of geranium and flowery sweetness.

Mylanta_Mcgrail

It is in the same wave of frags that emit a sweet scent but unlike others, it doesn’t try to make a whole tropical cocktail in your nostrils. It’s pleasing, present, and refined. I like it but I am aware people hate it passionately and it’s divisive. Don’t understand it. I liked it immediately when I smelled it on paper.

If you like the Versace Eros line, this is probably right up your alley. It’s a bit more sophisticated imo because I can see this in a black-tie event. It’s not a scent that takes itself too seriously but it can be versatile.

It wouldn’t be odd on a woman even though it’s made for a man. I get a tidal wave of feelings that suggests juicy overflowing fruits ripening in an infinite flow.

I would say it’s linear in progression. Though it’s not a bad thing. A great scent that just stays great? Sign me up! It lasts for 7+ hours and has decent sillage. If you put in on at 8AM, you can get swiffs of it at 4PM and it’s like juicy overflowing fruits are spilling out of nowhere.

The man or woman that wears this has a deep poetic side but asserts himself or herself in the situation when necessary.

I get the feeling that this scent has a pulse of its own and establishes attention and presence. It’s well worth the cost tier it’s in. 8.5/10

jjames799

Spicy sweet, fresh, floral modern safe scent. Nothing new and absolutely nothing to write home about. Obviously aimed at the younger generation who seem to lap up virtually the same scent profile on repeat.

I would say this smells slightly synthetic to my nose which surprised me for a YSL fragrance - in fact it reminds me of an Armaf scent that I have in my collection, which I can't quite place right now.

My whole family were big fans of YSL - Black Opium is my mother's fav and Kouros was my first bottle of EDT and still remains one of my signature scents. The fact that I have to purchase a clone of Kouros to get any of that magic tells you everything about where the company is right now.

A pale imitation, sadly.

DaedalusX

After reading some of the comments there seemed to be so much negative comments and a lot of hate. Being one to make my own judgements and ignore the general masses I decided to blind buy this, and I’m glad I did. This opens up almost identically to Salvatore Ferragamo Incanto Blue, which isn't in the database, and a little like Salvatore Ferragamo Incanto. By the mid it goes into a different direction but not too far from them. This to my nose is a sweet, spicy, and herbal cologne. This stuff is gold in my books. It’s a lot like a European cologne, and if you like Ferragamo scents then this one is for you. If you like scents like Ferragamo F Black, or the Salvatore Ferragamo Incanto bottles, you’ll absolutely adore this one. To me this is a solid 8/10 for me, I’d give it a 9 if it lasted just a little longer. I get between 4/6 hours, and even longer on the hotter days. No regrets over here and the dry down is a floral/powdery aromatic compliment beast. My gf is constantly sniffing my shirt.

I’d also like to add that generally speaking, whenever you have a cologne that is so close to being borderline unisex, women that I know tend to love bottles that go in that direction. It’s manly, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I ever caught my girlfriend wearing this stuff. I also don’t think I’d mind smelling it in her either, but I’d be pissed about her using my juice lol, but that’s a whole other story.

mazga

How can this be so polarising? One thing is sure , very few people find this 'just ok'. So it's either a love or hate relationship dus not a safe blind buy I'd say even though I did and loved it more than the edp due to a less sharp and brighter opening.

DanFragrance

The Aldehydes in this or whatever chemical that is used as the front runner is just nauseating. Its light and clean smelling but i just cant get past this headache inducing chemical

2/10

Bdeville

Im a diehard fan of YSL LHomme and when I tried this one it was an instant purchase for me. The smokey odor from incense is really nice, although is a fresh spice I prefer to limit its use until late spring and beginning of autumn, just because my region has a very dry and hot summer. It's a good starting point for spice fragrances, but all of us are so fond of them. Hands down among my happiest purchases of this year.

gonomon

Well, too much aldehydes for me. It does not smell realistic rather it smells something directly from chemistry lab. For the same price one can get fragrances more people will like but if you like the scent it is kinda unique so i would recommend you to buy atleast EDP version of YSL Y.
TLDR: Synthetic and likeable, buy EDP if you will. Not my taste.

patman21

This is not a bad scent. Pleasant, inoffensive ambery sweet stuff. However it has zero personality. If you want a scent that doesn't stand out in any way, go for it. Perfect smell for a "gototheclub" gym-rat.
Again....this is not bad, if you want to smell just like everybody nowdays, give it a go.

sprashanth1982

There's a lot of hype about this fragrance, so I decided to check it out at the local store. However, upon spraying it I was in for utter disappointment...

The YSL - Y EDT smells like just plain alcohol, I could not detect any fragrance notes in it - it smelt way too diluted. Now, I also got a chance to test the Y EDP version & that smelled really good - could detect the fragrance notes in it quite well.

So my verdict is - avoid the EDT version - as is too diluted and smells like plain alcohol. Instead, go for the EDP version which has prominent fragrance notes and smells really good.

milan.alleman

Very good fragrance, spicy but not too spice.
Even though i have the eau de toilette, it's very effective.
I get a lot of compliments when i wear this one;

dglightblue

Y edt, winter test on a sunny day, two sprays inner elbow.

impressions:
gentle
aqua? in the sillage not when sniffed close??
cedar or a dry wood - soft though
this is fresh but not an aquatic type freshie, nor is it green (looking at the accords now those suggest a more green fragrnace than what im getting)
i did note that i might be able to detect a perfumey light lemon which i now see as a listed note.

I guess you could say this is a clean light slightly dry aromatic, with a fresh feel to it. its not really spicey at all, easy to wear, it doesnt scream at you or "say' its this or that type.

and im a lady

EDIT
after several hours this is the same as it was. bright, aromatic, citrus. i would totally rock this, and by a happy accident it might have been this fragrance that got layered with si passione for women. if i find a Y at a reasonable price or split a bottle i might get it

karamjallaw

Smells nice and clean , a safe summer fragrance, but yet Another boring fragrance from designer houses.

When are we having another great fragrance that blows people’s minds? Fragrance with backbone , something like Kouros, M7 or even La Nuit d’ la Homme .

Still believe that designer houses can do great fragrances if they want . If they just stop play safe and dare to do something new.

Willy S

To me smells like a diluted version of L’homme

Fernando javier

mauryji

a non-complex fragrance but so polarizing , its ozonated side is invigorating _ and so good

better than edp in m.o.

rushrocker

It's ridiculous that anyone could complain about this fragrance. It's so good! Decent longevity for me too. I guess we all like different things... I will say that it's not the highest quality smelling fragrance. It lacks some depth and it can come off extremely generic. Joy Amin says it best, it's a "white t-shirt" fragrance. Really, really easy to wear. It's vastly overpriced for what it is though.
