Black Opium Eau de Toilette by Yves Saint Laurent is a Amber Vanilla fragrance for women. Black Opium Eau de Toilette was launched in 2015. Top notes are Pear, Black Currant, Citruses and Green Mandarin; middle notes are Coffee, Tea, Jasmine and Orange Blossom; base notes are White Wood and White Musk.

After EDP Black Opium presented a year ago, the house of Yves Saint Laurent will introduce a new edition, Black Opium Eau de Toilette at the end of August 2015. The new version of the fragrance arrives in the same flacon form and the key note remains the same—coffee, which is this time combined with fresh, greener shades of flowers, tea and fruit. The perfume version of the fragrance highlights a blend of flowers and coffee, while the new version EDT accentuates the green character of coffee.

BLACK OPIUM EAU DE TOILETTE starts with fruity notes of tart and refreshing black currant combined with pear zest, citruses and green mandarin bark. The heart incorporates the key ingredient—coffee, which becomes fresher with jasmine tea notes and luminous sweet orange blossom. It highlights sensuality with white musk and white wood which subtly support the flowers and fruit of the composition.

The advertising face of the fragrance Black Opium Eau de Toilette is British model Edie Campbell. The new fragrance can be expected on perfumery shelves starting from August 24, 2015. The bottle retains its unchanged design and can be differentiated from the EDP by its pink-golden reflections. The fragrance can be purchased as 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

I am surprised by the amount of negative reviews for this. It is a smooth and beautiful autumn/winter scent suitable for daytime. I rarely go out in the evening and so I don’t need many evening fragrances. This is lovely and I enjoy wearing it. I also don’t fear it being too strong for work. It does need topping up halfway through the day but I don’t mind that.

caprilyic

far too juvenile for my purposes, but inoffensive. tried on at the vancouver airport duty free store, if you must know

Foxzilla

Man, something must've happened to BO EDT in the last couple years, bc I bought this in 2016, and the performance on this thing was/is great. It's literally about 90% the sillage and longevity of the EDP. Scent-wise, it's missing some of the warmth & depth that I love in BO EDP (mainly the vanilla), but there's something very satisfying about this. The main difference is in the beginning, where the black currant & citrus are prevalent. You don't immediately get hit with the coffee, like in the EDP. In the drydown, it becomes a brighter / more fruity floral version of the original. The interesting (and probably divisive) part is the tea note. It gives almost a saccharine sweetness to it. This could've been called "Diet Black Opium," or "Black Opium a la Fresca," and it would've made more sense.

I actually didn't like this one much when I first got it. I really missed the vanilla in the EDP. But as I was wearing this, I smelt something so beautiful in the air, it took me a few min to realize it was coming from me! I just had to smell it from further away. Now when I wear this, I spray this on the back of my shirt, and I can catch that beautiful scent all the time.

Pink0313

my winter to go perfume , so feminine and last long unlike other perfumes that does last at all on my skin.

BigBobRoss

Dark fruity wintery scent with an earthy coffee touch

Pleasant scent with decent longevity and sillage

Ececanga

I don't know why nobody mentioned this but the drydown is 90% similar to Carolina Herrera Good Girl on my skin.

Siv7Stars

I tried this side by side with the edp. It's a bit sharper n more synthetic somehow plus it disappears quicker. This seems to concur with many here. I've rarely preferred the edt version of anything with the exception of Chanel Chance.

angelphoenix

i used to love this but then i bought the edp and now it kind of smells like cat pee

AlienKitty

For me its the same smell like original EDP, maybe just a bit toned down. I did read some review saying that if you dont like original this could be the one that you would like. nope. still dont like it.

dglightblue

Horrible, a blast of horrible, then not much/semi pleasant, then pencil shavings end.
Low longevity

LayersAndLayers

Smells great but lasts literally 1 second. You can spray 6 times but the result is the same. Absolute waste of money. I ended up giving it away - bummer!

grapefruit352

Eau de perfume version of Black opium is much much better, smoother, deeper and richier! Eau de toilette version is not to my taste at all.

I_am_nothing

For disclosure I despise eau de toilette version of any and every perfume I have ever smelled so the fact that I also hated this one should have come as no surprise, but I was still hoping that wouldn’t be the case with black opium cuz I adore the eau de parfum version.

This one is boring. This one is bland. This one is just one note - citrus. There is no depth, no hook, no layer, just basic lemony citrus smell, not a lemon pie or anything actually complex and interesting that’ll make you wanna keep on smelling it and see how it blooms and transforms. Nope, just a straight up lemon zest spray in your face.

So if you are on a lookout to smell like 6 year old kid selling handmade lemonade at a stand for 10 cents again here you go bud this one’s for ya

Scandal1

Sweet with a hint of citrus..I cant pin point any notes only fruity happy notes..but fades away very quickly..lasts for an hour or so on my skin ..the edp last alotttt more but I prefer the edt more as its tend to be more wearable than the edp

hfigures

It has amazing longevity. That's what I remembered about it as I sprayed at 7:00 a.m. as I walking out the door. Ten hours later it is still going strong. I smelled this all day long and I hoped no one else could smell it. It's skanky, but there are no animalics to blame. There were no layers to this fragrance on me. The initial blast is shattering and it dissipated a bit, but the smell did not change. If I had put it on earlier I would have showered. I don't like it. It smells nothing like the EDP which I love.

candy_apyeon

Ok
Can we talk about black opium eau de toilette
This really smell so good...or maybe...smelling

I don't tend to go for EDT, as I value performance and longevity in a scent, but I sampled this one anyway. The scent does not match the bottle, name or concept, given its sweetness, blandness and lack of mystery. Also, this is undoubtedly a daytime scent.

The syrupy opening is heady and strong: fruity with prominent berry and citrus notes. Plum and blackcurrant are also evident, rounded out by the sweet juicy pear. Some synthetic vanilla provides even more sweetness - somewhere between candy and cough syrup. It is slightly cloying in my opinion, but I can still appreciate the appeal of this sweet opening for many.

As it dries down, there is a hint of coffee grounds amongst the sweetness, as well as some liquorice/anise. It is not heavy on the floral notes, but a faint white floral accord emerges after a little while. It becomes sweetly woody (heavy on the vanilla) as it fades to a skin scent.

Black Opium EDT is quite well-blended, and is feminine and inoffensive, but it is a generic, unoriginal floral-fruity, not to my taste. After the strong opening, its performance is lacking, even for an EDT - it disappears completely after two hours. It should be a lot better, but I must try the EDP for comparison. 2/5.

pamplemousse2

The Black Opium EDP has a special place in my heart because it was my first "real perfume" I fell in love with and was obsessed with it. I always had an issue though with how it only seemed to really last and project for like 30 minutes though. I heard about trying out the EDT instead and that it would be 'better' since the EDP honestly has the performance of an EDT anyways, it doesn't really matter which you get longevity wise.

Upon first applying my sample of this, I can smell it within about 8" of my skin, which like the EDP, has a large projection at first. It does really smell pretty similar too, but maybe just a touch less 'scratchy' or heavy? Probably from the lack of pink pepper. The pear is certainly there, though, and it's a bit more 'juicy' smelling from most likely the citrus.

After about 5 minutes, it's already a bit lighter, smelling within about 4" of my skin and a calming tea scent is there as well. I never got too much of the coffee note in the EDP, more so a hint of a super sugary "coffee" drink, or vanilla latte, and I feel like there's perhaps a hint of that here too? I drink my coffee black, so it can be hard for me to discern when there are "coffee" notes in fragrances, but it's more like a frappucino or latte.

I feel like it also is already very 'weak' smelling. The EDP has a big punch in the beginning that can be honestly a bit overwhelming. This seems a bit languid and listless and shy without much body, which I'm pretty surprised about. Almost a bit thin? Like I get a scent, but it's kind of fleeting or watery and not like one potent scent "cloud".

10 minutes later and it has a sort of sweetness to it that reminds me of anise or licorice. I do think there is actually a bit more coffee scent coming out now, which honestly in the EDP was still just 'vanilla latte' coffee smelling. To me, if I wasn't told coffee was in here, I still wouldn't have known, but since I know it's a note here, it does smell a bit like very sweet coffee beans. There's a slight roastiness to it, too.

1 hour later and it's a skin scent that's been a bit linear. Still a bit syrupy sweet, but with actually some slight coffee-ness to it. More so than I'd say even the EDP has, which is surprising, and actually what I wanted from the EDP. There are moments every now and again I actually do smell coffee, not vanilla latte, which makes me happy. I feel it's sweeter directly on the skin, and more coffee-ish the further you move away or in the trail. But the scent is fainter at this point overall.

I'll see how long this lasts.

3 hours later and it's a light skin scent I need my nose to my arm to smell, but it's there. It's a bit woody and sweet.

4 hours later and it's basically gone, except the slightest hint left directly on the skin.

This one confuses me: I love the bottle, I can watch the purple glitter shine for hours, I prefer it to the original bottle. The juice inside is like an explosion, it is very intense at first even though it's an EDT. It is not intense in the bad sense, it smells wonderful, like juicy pear, seductive coffee and fresh tea. Very well blended. Ideal for both day and night. If you are a fan of the original, then this too will excite you, if you are not, then maybe this will win you over, since there are subtle but essential differences in the way they smell. (for example the dominant tea note) The downside is that, in a short time it literally disappears. That bothers me 'cause I would like to smell like that all the time, since it costs a certain amount of money & is a product of a big house. Βut this perfume has strange behaviors. For an EDT it smells very sweet & intense, especially in the beginning and after an hour you can not smell anything anymore. Yes to the incredible smell and the dreamy bottle - Νο to its negligible longevity...

chelseamurdock

I’m not sure how I feel about this one... and that hesitant feeling in itself tells me it’s probably not my taste. I smelled a deep plum mixed with coffee beans and a slight vanilla note... and also maybe some peach or apricot? So strange. I really thought I would enjoy this one, but something about it doesn’t appeal to me. It kind of smelled like coffee with fruit and booze. I think I need to try this one again to be extra fair and sure. I can see why others would enjoy it, but I’m still on the fence. It didn’t win me over yet.

summersunshine

The opening of this is very sweet and very strong--it reminds me of cotton candy and an overall "fun fair" sort of vibe. The first time I sprayed it, it covered the whole room. Luckily, it mellows out pretty quickly, in to a warm, sweet coffee smell. Like a melted frappuccino. After a couple hours, its mostly gone, with just a slight sweet lingering. The longevity is moderate--I get about 4 hours from this, more if I apply it to moisturised skin. Sillage is good, but not overpowering. I'd also call it moderate.

I know a lot of people feel this is a nighttime perfume, but I think its too sweet and not dark enough for that. I definitely prefer it as a daytime scent.

Overall, its very pleasant, and I don't think many would find it offensive. It does have a very "young" feel to it though.

berrycool1211

I bought this as a gift for my niece. Before giving to her I tried it out on myself, lol.

The scent is nice. It's dark, smokey and sweet. But it's weak and I can barely smell it on myself. This is the EDT version so I guess it's expected to be like that. I think the EDP version is a bit stronger.

Anyway, the review:
When I first sprayed it on myself, the opening smelled like spirit or some clinical alcohol which I didn't like. I think you this synthetic scent? I don't know. But after 5 mins, it becomes pleasant. It's kinda smells dark and fruity, I am guessing it's the coffee and the black currants and maybe even the citrus notes. I can't tell for sure. It lasts about 3-4 hours on my skin. On the clothing it's long lasting, 8 hours plus! The sillage is weak.

Now for the seasons and occasion. I think it's good for cooler climates. Especially autumn. Though I think it can be worn on spring too. Occasions. I imagine this to be good to wear for clubbing or a night out.

I'll like to try the EDP version too. I feel like I'll prefer that one over this.

Don't think I'll buy this for myself.

iimuru

Opening is little too sweet which must be from black currant and pear. Although to me it smells more like a fig/black currant+ lightly burnt wood. Right after you spray it, it stinks up the entire space and you may think it's too strong. In about 5~10 minutes it becomes just perfect (for next 20min), where it's not overwhelming and person next to you and yourself would enjoy. It then becomes skin scent at least on my skin. Scent is quite linear with a minimal change, it loses some sweetness in a first hour and darker/heavier scents from musk, coffee and wood becomes more noticeable. As a whole I think it's a sweet scent that suits late 20s and older. It has a decent longevity but lacks in silage (cloys for first 5~10 min and dies down rather quickly). This perfume gives that vibe of an independent and professional women. I don't think it's worth for the price.

MrEleven1181

I received this sample when I purchased a few fragrances online. First thing is this is a woman’s fragrance and i am a man so just keep than in mind although i do wear and enjoy a few woman’s fragrances.
It starts off with a very powerful peach/fig scent. I mean its nice and fresh and i could definitely see woman enjoying this fragrance but after 30-40 mins this just takes a turn for the worst. It goes to a kind of chemical shampoo smell really not very nice at all. I really wanted to wash it off but kept it on to test the performance.
This lasted around 6 hours before fading and sillage was poor but kind of what you would expect from a designer fragrance

BBarragan

This version is a cozy sweet musk on my skin. Lighter than the EDP. Still very sweet. Midway through the dry down I get the woods popping through, then the DNA of the EDP with its vanilla coffee lingers on the skin.

Lili_was_here

To my nose this is the most beautiful blend that you can think of, of coffee and licorice, even though licorice isn't listed as one of the notes.

Sillage: On my skin; embarrassingly enormous during the first 30 minutes (yes, I have seen people making faces and taking a step back), but after half an hour it stays within my comfort zone (arms length).

Longevity: It performs better than most perfumes on my skin.. approximately 5-6 hours.

When to wear: In my opinion this is a perfume suited for clubbing, late nights and for wintertime.

Queen of torts

Smells nice. Not as strong as the original (as expected). Got it on sale but wouldn't have gotten it full price. Longevity just over an hour

I wondered recently, the Papaveroideae, is that the patriarchy who believes that their ideals are right in the sense that this is a disgrace to the fragrance which first bore part of this name? This fragrance here, it seems to speaks to me. More than the poison of hypnosis, but it is not my intention to cause a rivalry. Having been drawn to the intensely red flower ever since I can remember, having been partially saturated from its seeds on some Friday evenings and seasonally as one of two pastry fillings might have something to do with it. That there is no depth to it is something that I partly understand but partly also see as a hasty reflex brought about by the sweetness and perhaps also by some who may be applying it onto a certain hollowness. That never works, as it does not work to cover an unsightly character with, say, an expensive wardrobe. Alright, alright! I will try to behave. The fragrance, I hope, is not an empty shell over sentiments. The note of coffee is not something that I absolutely must have in a fragrance, but here it seems creamy, blended well and in interaction with kind of a fluid poppy red, a bit of sparkle as well as something grittier and darker, which may be allegorical smoked poppy seeds that you might feel haptically as if it was a refreshing peeling if you happened to spill this imaginary cream. I will have to decide on whether to pursue this formulation or the higher concentrated one. And then simply wearing it without giving too much weight to simplified associations, as they probably do not have to grapple with not few bland fragrances marketed to men. I might have settled with smelling it from her but for seven winters now I have wondered, where that sweet neck may be.

vattenmelon

yuck! it smells-on my skin- like SWEAT! horrible smell

Mctmes

I found it to be too heavy and headache inducing. I didn't realize I had tried this, the eau de toilette, and was expecting the coffee and vanilla scent, which this does not have. Honestly didn't care for this at all, and it didn't last very long. Not worth the price tag for sure!

Eguam

I'm joining the sad people team. I absolutely love everything about this perfume. Everything... but performance. One hour after spraying i need to stick my nose to my clothes to smell it, and 2 hours later it's gone. It's a real shame, because it's a delicious scent.

hunnydebee

After all the interesting notes fade, it lingers nothing but coying sweetness that’s slightly annoying with no depth whatsoever.

bombekmateya

I'm soooooooooo sad because I really hardly fall in love with perfumes, I did with this one (edp is really too sweet), but noone smells me, neighter do I ! :(

mapache

I have/love Black Opium EDP. Today I received this BO EDT version....and wow....surprisingly...I am getting more coffee note than in the EDP...10 points for that!!
Basically...not supremely different scents...but..now I love them BOTH.

PricklyAndHot

I like more this edt. It's more airy. And it has more coffee. But this fragrance is still not my type.

doormouse1

Another dupe for this one is Night Sky by Milton Lloyd.

lmwimsatt

I definitely smell grapes more than coffee. This is perfect for a little biker mama

ElliCoco

May have found a cheap sort-of-dupe for this: Paris by night by River Island.

AnitaHendricks

Beautiful! This perfume is lighter and more fruity than it's black glittered sister. This one has a strong black currant note where the eau de parfum version has vanilla. I enjoy both! It's dark, feminine and it has lots of character. I'ts a wonderful perfume during fall.

KamyFlower

This was a beautiful surprise to me! I feel the citrus notes, a delicious coffee scent, and then the confortable warm woody notes. I'm not a La vie est belle kind of perfume lover, but this one is just so delicious! It's sweet, sexy and feminine, easy to wear day and night! Perfect!

unsrsly

Thought this would smell exactly like the edp but it doesn't. I love the green note in this one, makes it a little more day friendly and fresh. I still smell the coffee and the pear but also a lot of the tea. I like it a lot, just not as much as the original edp.

The first Opium was released in 1977 and does not require presentations. Since its creation, Opium has already gained numerous variations ranging from summer editions to collector’s editions.
In 2014, more precisely in June, the press announced the launch of Black Opium Eau de Parfum. The new perfume would be a mysterious retelling of the original classic, full of Rock and Roll style and made for modern women, who are always on the move. Pure deception! Its fragrance has nothing of the classic version, much less the famous smell of powder, able to impregnate any environment.

Black Opium EDP was just another flanker, which eventually became a new pillar within the Opium line itself and in that little time has already received more than five different variations. Its floral and gourmand fragrance conquered the market and in August of 2015, the company released this Eau de Toilette version, with the same bottle, but bathed by a pink glitter.
Black Opium Eau de Toilette follows the same concept of Black Opium EDP, which brought the green coffee as a central ingredient. But this time, the fragrance has gained more luminous accords and the promise of more versatile use.

Its composition is badly publicized in the main media, as it differs from the official list, which can be found on the brand's website. One of the main differences is the fact that the coffee note was inserted in the base, not in the body of the fragrance. And this time there is no vanilla either.
Black Opium Eau de Toilette has notes of pear and green tangerine, plus a touch of black currant, followed by notes of tea from the jasmine petals and orange blossoms, towards the base with notes of green coffee, musk and white woods.

When applied, the perfume is sweet and pleasant. Nothing innovative, though, different. The difference is in the citric output, which mixes with the tea and collides with the sweetest side of the fragrance. Then, in a matter of minutes, a bitterness appears and makes the perfume lose its course completely (at least on my skin). The smell becomes strange and this change bothered me a lot. There's something there that did not fit well with the rest. So I try to survive this stage and, after a long time, this nuance start disappearing and the perfume becomes more enjoyable.
One note: the experiences I've had with this scent have made it clear that it's really a matter of skin. It's amazing how well it fits with the female skin, including the teenage girls. And one thing that was very evident to me was that it pleases more from far away than from close up. That is, the woman who pass you by wearing Black Opium EDT will be noticed. On top of that, it projects and lasts very well.

And even though it follows the style of night fragrances that are ideal for lower temperatures, I really think it can be worn during the day, but in smaller doses. Unfortunately, I did not feel the coffee the way I expected and I still prefer the EDP version, better finished and with no pointed edges that may cause divergences of opinions.

Soofiya

I like black opium edp,I love nuit blanche version but edt version never caught my attention just because of it's notes list.I can't imagine or love a black opium without vanilla.also I usually try to avoid blackcurrant and it happens to be pretty dominant here, more important,I believe in the sweeter the better, the heavier the better,so edt version didn't seem to be love material for me but you know,I'm very curious when it's about flankers and this brown bottle looks very eye catching so I picked up the tester and sprayed it on a paper, simply to compare it side by side with it's siblings and voila,it happened.I can hear love even before ringing my heart's bell
What made me fall for BO edt was it's pear.pear was a note I never cared about but after Katy Perry meow which is a lovely combination of pear and vanilla to my nose,I started to admire a good vanilla scent with pear.edt opens with obvious similarities to edp but not as heavy.pear shines through black opium DNA giving it a sparkly fruity freshness which is very likable.I can't pick up much black current and I don't miss it.this very fresh pear-dominant stage doesn't last long and it's a pity.however pear remains as one of the most prominent notes but in a sugary, sweet form.although there's no vanilla listed here,I can easily pick it up but it's not as heavy in vanilla as edp.lack of patchouli in this version keeps it less heavy, still there's enough woods in base to anchor this sweet pear-vanilla-white floral combo.I can't detect tea or any other green notes in edt version and however it's not as heavy as edp in vanilla and coffee,it's still sweet, gourmandish and warm and unbearable in hot summer days
Staying power and sillage both seem to be good, not as strong as edp but still satisfying
For me this is a little lighter BO edp with a hint of Katy Perry meow naunces so no wonder I love it and am very happy to receive it as a early valentine gift.it's a love in opening and a big like in it's drydown
This 1.6 oz bottle is so easy to hold in hand that it made me decide to buy nuit blanche in this size not the bigger bottle
❤❤❤❤❤

I don't like the EDT as much as the EDP.
EDP is deliciously sweet and coffee note is nicely done.
This one is similar to the EDP at first, but later it develops differently.
An hour after smelling, weird synthetic scent is present.
EDP is still delicious smelling at the same time.
Quite unfortunate scent in my opinion.
I can't even describe the notes, it doesn't smell like the notes listed here, except very synthetic pear note.
No coffee in here.

Khariz

This is soooo pleasant for my olfactory nerve. It projects very good but does not make me wanna throw up. This is a head-turner. It also lasts very long on me. I sprayed 2 spritzes at 9AM, now it's already 4pm. 7 hours and it's still projecting!! What a catch for an EDT!!!

Oh, she smells good!

Black currant and pear zest, less coffee scent but i still like it. The colors of this version is much prettier to me. But this toilette version is still very strong.

Missmaassen

i like Black Opium EDT much better than the EDP. i fell for the scent on a card sample i was sent and couldnt stop thinking about this perfume till i purchased it. while the EDT still has the warmth, depth and mystery of the parfum, it is much more fresher and not sickly sweet. i love the coffee and white floral factor it has to it. This scent is very attractive , sexy and alluring. It also has amazing lasting power; 8hr + and i would recommend it to anyone who loves to stand out. x

flora85

My boyfriend bought me this beautiful masterpiece in my birthday, and i fall in love with it !! a nice coffee scent, not to sweet, not like its predecessor edp, which is too sweet for my taste. I can smell coffee beans, something sweet, like marshmallows, and it's refreshed with a bit of green, I guess it's the tea. Also, The combination sweetness the coffee and vanilla notes bring, mixed with woody floral notes smell scrumptious. It makes sexy moments even more indulging ;) Coming from a classic man, this is a very sexy one for the young, adventurous, romantic but hard ladies!

lexi.malevolent

I love this! I love the EDP anyway and usually prefer them but the EDT of Black opium wins for me! My colleague is now upset she bought her bottle of the EDP before the EDT came out because she likes mine more!

mybookhouse

I don't smell any connection at all to the original Opium. Sweet and gooey like so many recent fragrances. Guess YSL was just cashing in on the Opium name.

Piperok26

I really like this one better than the EDP. I get more of that coffee note and it's a bit warmer and less sour than the EDP. The sillage and longevity is really great.

FrkFors

I would say that this version is more fresh, dry and green compared to the edp. I feel this is more like a daytime perfume. I also think this one is more "raw" in a way. But it still has depth and warmth. It also has a decent stayingpower on me. I like the edt and edp equally much, but for different moods/events/weather! :)

Fadoluisi

I'm in love with anything that has Balck Currant in it.
I had the fortune of smell this very recently in a perfume shop and had the first instinct of wanting to pour the juiced drink it.
Really lovely it will be my next purchase.

I love BO and I like Nuite Blanche but this EDT smells weird on me.The coffe withe orange blossoms and the tea note don't go well together, on me it turns very sour also there are no warm notes in here the coffee is green instead of being rich and comforting.Sillage and longevity quite poor. Not my thing

Cel405

I really love this one. The richness of the coffee, the sweetness of the blackcurrant, the woods and orange blossom, I love it all. I had tried a sample once and that was all it took. This smells so deep and heady to me, but with some fruitiness to keep it from being too overwhelming. I equate it to a dark room with the curtains drawn, except for a small portion pulled back so that a crack of light can come through.

The silage is decent, nothing that will choke a room full of people, and the longevity is great. I can spray it on in the early morning and still smell it (though not quite as strongly) long into the evening.

I will absolutely be purchasing more when this runs out.

Sirena78

I bought this because I smelled a sample on paper (I should have known better) and thought it would be mysterious and gorgeous. Instead it's this sweet mess that had potential but was overdone in all the wrong ways and smells cheap to me. It is too strong in a fake synthetic way and was headache city for me. I can usually use perfumes in my hair or on my clothes that I can't wear on my skin but this one is just too off putting for me. It's intoxicating but in the way you've had too much and it makes you sick. The only good thing (I suppose ) is it does last quite a while and after it has died down it smells okay.

Coffee King

Quite fresh, a less harsh opening then the EDP, dare I say it's a little less interesting then the EDP. A fruity opening transforms into something like a soft musky floral with hints of tea. It's quite nice, I find it a little bit safe.

Arlene-Beatrix

Quite likable scent, a similar, lighter version of EDP, but still, too much coffee for me. Too sticky, syrupy. What a shame. I love this bottle.

Shiffy

La versione edt è davvero molto simile all'originale Black Opim. Con l'apertura iniziale quasi non noto la differenza tra i due.. Poi man mano si avverte che è un po' più leggera..

This perfume as many other reviewers have stated is not close to the original opium. So please, try to banish "opium" from your mind when you try. I did.

I tried out this perfume while wandering around the store and sprayed myself on the way out, I wasn't wearing any frag that day so I thought, perfect!

I found this perfume's opening loud and brash, filled with the mandarin orange & citrus notes...while I waited for it to settle down (windows open in my car), I keep sniffing hoping to catch the coffee much spoken about...but nothing, it quickly developed into a sweet, fruity floral blend much like countless other perfumes today, that settled quite close to skin. I didn't find any coffee or woods.

Now don't get me wrong, I like a fruity floral now and again, I guess I fooled myself into thinking that opium black EDT would be different somehow, have something unique. I still am hopeful and will try the other flankers. I like the idea of coffee in perfume (two of my favorite things in life!) and completely dismiss any of the opium black frags...only as respect to the true opium parent.

Happy smelling everyone!

Purplegem

To me this is a bit bitter (not really coffee though), a bit 'dirty' (hard for me to describe this dirtiness - which I dont mind so much when a scent contains vanilla but otherwise its too dark for me). Warm, a little spicy. I can smell some floral and orange if I dont sniff it directly from the skin. Doesnt last that long. Seems to be popular - know a few people with it.

LadiesRed

I would say that the notes of Black Opium are warmer and sweeter than the new Black Opium Nuit Blanche. Its richer, got a warmth to it and has this alluring sweet scent that goes well with the type of girl who dresses in black, is chic and loves to rock but at the same time she is cultured and strong hearted.

Love this!

This reminded me by Cinema YSL edp!! That's all i get (at least on my skin). When i first tried this i kept thinking: this is good, but not new; i smelled this before, i used it in the past.. but what was it?! Then i felt a little nauseated and that was it, the only perfume that made me feel this way (glamourous and nausea at the same time) was Cinema. Don't have cinema anymore to make a side by side comparison, but i am sure it is almost identical, only Black Opium edt is a little more sweet and a little less glamourous.maybe it is a young & playful Cinema maybe made for younger women 20s & 30s.

I am a bit disapointed with this one. i thought it would be a "love" but it´s just a "like". it makes me think of a beautiful woman without confidence: you know that the potencial is there, she just does not show it. I think the creators played too safe with this one. by the bottle and name i was expecting something more glamourous but it is soothing and calm. don´t get me wrong, this perfume is good and if you´re looking for a confort scent that´s not too sweet this one may well be your thing. it projects good and lasts long, it is just not unique and you can find similar fragrances way cheaper.it is more complex than the edp,it is just that it could have been better developed.
Notes: i get mostly tea, coffe and the flowers. no citrus for me.

MademoiselleMaya

Pleasant fruity and gourmand top notes that can enchant on a paper strip or within the first 15 minutes, laid on a cheap, chemical, musty base.
After about an hour it starts to smell like Black XS but with a more pedestrian finish and worse structure.
Better than edp which is an unoriginal celebrity "parfume".
Passable, but.. darn, YSL under L'Oreal has reached the floor level. If they will proceed like this we'll soon be finding YSL in a cheap/sale bins next to Playboy scents..

Taliera

A SA at the department store insisted I try this, and because I'm not into flankers, I reluctantly did so. I was amazed - what a beautiful, quality perfume, I thought. Nothing like the original! I loved the interplay of rose, green coffee, patchouili and vanilla... Green coffee? - I kept asking. GREEN coffee?? How unusual! It was a bewitching formula. I was seriously going to purchase, when I smelled my wrist and it had turned into a jammy rose, such the type that I am tired of. It got worse and worse, reminding me of Black XS which I'm sick of. For me, only the beginning was good.

I like this perfume but sadly the longevity is way too short. Given that it's an EDT, I would fault it. However, I would prefer it to be a bit longer lasting. This is the first coffee scent that I bought and it's quite a good one. My fiancé likes it and complimented that it truly lived up to its name as an Opium. :D

This is the most. Intoxicating. Fragrance. Oh. My. Goodness lol i just smelled this in Bloomingdales and I am in love. To those of you who are comparing this to the original Opium, just let it go. This is Opium's younger more attractive sister. Don't get me wrong, Opium is a classic but this is nothing short of amazing. Im getting coffee, some fresh brewed tea, a few berries, romance, mystery and a little sweet flirtation. It reminds me of Lancome La Nuit, with expresso. The bottle is beautiful as well.

The original is more my thing as it a oriental vanilla type fragrance with coffee nuances and a sweet character . It also has a little patchouli ,,, I find it delicious and warm and sexy. One of my top 5 favourite scents.
The new EDT falls under floral woody musk which is also one of my favourite categories in the perfume world. ,,,, the EDT is greener, fresher , fruitier more floral and not as sweet. I miss the absents of vanilla and patchouli but It's quite nice and I may still get it but if I had to choose between them I would definitely choose the original EDP due to its warmth , sweetness and vanilla vibe. It's more gourmand ,,, the EDT just a tat more ordinary reminding me of other perfumes a little more. But however it's closely related to the EDP and still very nice and tempting.

shalimaraddict

This is much better than the EDP. I'm not saying it is amazing, but way better. It does have that freshness to it, while still smelling like Black Opium. The EDP is too sickly sweet and offensive. This is softer and more complex if you can believe it.

Comforting tea + generic shampoo + some kind of mysterious potion

Without looking at the notes I thought it smelled a lot like tea, that kind of tea that is in 'Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden', behind a clean shampoo kind of scent of orange blossom and citrus. The berries and the overall vibe of being both shower fresh and dark and sweet at the same time reminded me a lot of 'Manifesto'. I couldn't pick out the coffee, but after looking at the notes I think it makes sense. The coffee probably adds the mysterious element for me. After it settles down I get the jasmine a lot more, but I never feel like it goes deep enough, and it stays very clean and shampoo-like

EDIT: tried the EDP and i like that one a lot more! It's sweeter and less clean and I think it works better. The EDT is too much 'a mix of everything'.

EDP = vanilla + mysterious potion

Purchased this excellent fragrance as part of my Wife's birthday gift after smelling a sample in a Macy's mailed flyer. Love it on her as she does too! The combination sweetness the coffee and vanilla notes bring, mixed with woody floral notes smell scrumptious. It makes sexy moments even more indulging ;) Coming from a classic man, this is a very sexy one for the ladies!

samlovefragrance

oh looks much more interesting than the edp, i'm quite sick of sweet vanilla dominated scents, and looks like the prominent note here by far is coffee so could be good, will try!

genny17

I much prefer this version, it is more complex, it starts off fresher, with a hint of coffee, as it develops, it gets more floral, it is like a fresh floral oriental to my nose, real pretty, real grown up also, it isnt that much different from the EDP, the top notes are pretty sweet out of the bottle, just fresher, but still bewitching and very attractive!! I dont detect the citrus notes, mostly orange blossom , and woods in the base..just more nuances, not as bold..lovely!!

Silvuna

Aahhh, lovely. Finally, a nice coffee scent, not too sweet, not like its predecessor edp, which is too sweet for my taste. I can smell coffee beans, something sweet, like marshmallows, and it's refreshed with a bit of green, I guess it's the tea. Thumbs up!

Nyssa Ainley

Hmm, Tea and Coffee in a fragrance?? That sounds a little bit ...

Ok, I want to try this as I love the EDP so much. I wish I could have purchased it on holiday but I went for a Shipton Ring instead.

I will get it this year by hook or by crook. I am saving up for a big shop in Cardiff in nice stores like Debenhams for a change - rather than High Street shops I want to look into Department Store buying.

Anyway, if it does perform well then I may add it to my ever growing want list.

I will edit this review once I can get to try it properly.

BirmanDolman

I have smelt this already, it largely retains the original elements of the EDP, however in my opinion it is much more pleasureable to wear as the sweetness is much more manageable, this would be a nice fragrance to wear in the summer, the lasting power is impressive for an EDT, I got 6-7 hours before it started to fade right down.
