It's a decent, peppery, musky, rose scent. Sillage is weak and it just doesn't last on my skin. A bit old school and boring though.

AbeStreet

First, I love the bottle. A very classy and timeless appeal that really syncs up with the fragrance within. Second, I like the fragrance. I was not all that fond of it during the initial spray but after letting it settle for a few minutes I found it to be quite attractive. For me the rose is ever present. I appreciate the lack of saffron in its note breakdown. The rose is soft and while not loud it is the stand out note and some may find it comes across too feminine. Not me. I love a good rose scent and this is probably one of the best I've come across in its price range.

adrienn99

wearing this again on a cold winter day... curiously I get lots of geranium (but then rose and geranium share some aromachemicals)... today smells more like Guerlain's Habit Rouge.

Gyps

I’ll have to come back to it. Can’t smell much rose. Annoying lid that keeps coming off.

Edit: Came back after a month of letting it sit. Nice rose scent, with other notes blended well. Not really loud and strong, but I get nice whiffs of soft rose coming up to my nose when I move around. Nothing like Nina Ricci, completely different roses. Overall a nice scent.

Edit: Came back again and it’s even better. Improves with age. Lovely rose that’s deep, dark and musky. Really, really liking it now. Gorgeous.

For men I would say. 70% masculine.
Not bad but not my favorite oud rose. Because for sure rose is not the top, the top is pepper and then patchouli.
Neither this is not a fresh and juicy rose...is more a dry rose or petals.
I think is the patchouli that keeps it more masculin, would be so much better if it there was sandalwood replacing the patchouli.....

I'm in shock. This Black Rose bear a resemblance towards my mom's perfume, Aigner Explosive.
If only she's still alive, I'll purchase one for her.
rest in peace mom.

I do love a good oriental scent. It's even better if there is a Turkish rose or a Taif rose within it. My definition of perfection demands it also to have a lot of darkness, oriental woody notes, as well as resins and balsamic hints. Last, but not least, I appreciate a final significative touch, an earthy accord.
This #black rose has all that and it even dries with an earthy vibe sprinkled with dry vanilla.
The house of Trussardi seemed to have lost its initial magic touch, justified by some very good perfumes that made a furore in the 80s and 90s. Later on, the situation got even worse with a somewhat shoddy bottle design for the 21Ist century bottlings. They ruined a high-class standard set in a not very distant but a bygone past anyway. Recently, a new well-conceived design has accompanied the release of some new scents that I qualify as very high-class and high-quality, well over the average of Trussardi's deserved competition.
On a visit to a good perfumery, one can verify the recovery of good taste with the new perfumes' flasks and packaging. They fully respect the old traditional Trussardi's approved design. I tried three of the most recent perfume launches and was very pleasantly surprised.
The dark rose of #black rose seems to have been raised in the Middle East. It is quite different from the Cartier roses and it is perhaps closer to the Montale and Mancera roses. There is some familiarity with Montale's Roses Musk for instance, but for me, this scent could be a flanker of one of the perfumes I have been enamoured of for several years. I am referring to the dark rose that dominates Tom Ford's Noir de Noir. And yes... the new Trussardi's have a neat Tom Ford energy in my opinion!
Trussardi's Taif rose note is warm and incredibly lush, being considerably enhanced by a fine simmering pepper spice in this perfume. It turns out to be a profound and pungent rose, adorned with spices and some honeyed notes. The perfume is powerful, intense and intricate. It entangles deeply with our senses. An exotic Arabic rose is the true centre of the fragrance.
The perfume base confirms an oriental warm atmosphere, proposing notes of punchy vanilla and cocoa, earthy patchouli, dark musk and lingering resins.
So far, I have only enjoyed a small decant of this Trussardi scent, but I have a keen intention of buying a 100ml bottle along with Trussardi's new woody and resinous fragrances.
Anyone who likes a dark and seductive oriental rose should not miss this suggestion from Trussardi.

This beauty here walks the line between a gothic, romantic, noble rose and a powdery grandma rose.

Might smell a little dated to some people. Personally I'm a fan though.

A great surprise for someone like me who is not that fond of roses. Usually rose perfumes are sharp and old fashioned, while this one is airy, modern, and soft. Such a lovely thin rosy vail, an almost-transparent rose scent. Great for beginners and those who are not big fans of rose fragrances.

It was compared to L'Extase by Nina Ricci which I own and love, but to me - they are nothing alike. The Black Rose it much softer, more of a tender skin scent. For some reason the first blast is very sharp and overwhelming, but five minutes later it morphs into a beautiful soft light rose scent. Trussardi fragrances are not always appreciated the way they should be. This is what happens with The Black Rose, which deserves a lot more love than it's getting.

adrienn99

this is actually a very interesting take on rose...while it's spicy, it's not overwhelmingly spicy...the frag feels pretty airy throughout. On me, the pepper and patchouli combo seems to be more dominant than the rose, however, the rose is there, it's just been 'modified' slightly by these players. At first, it does not appear very complex or rich and yet there is an allure in its minimalism. It feels like a well-polished zen stone.

Cannot really think of any frag that is similar to this one and that's weird coz I know quite e few rose dominant frags...If pressed, I'd say Etat Libre's Eau Protection but then the patch is a lot stronger in that.

Dunno...Trussardi scents keep impressing me these days.

First impressions: tried this on in store after nearly attempting to blind buy online. From the first whiff I knew already It’s NOT a perfume I’d wear. The taif rose & pink pepper is the first note I pick up and the latter disperses quite quickly leaving the rose in the forefront. Musky rosey middle eastern feel. It’s very similar to attar perfumes. I am Agreeable with some of the comments below.. if you have smelt some high end oud rose combos this one falls a bit flat. I suppose you could wear it for daily use as it’s a lot closer to skin as opposed to the other traditional attars and ouds which are loud from the get go. For me tho, it’s not a must buy.

The Black Rose is a beautiful warm sensual spicy rose combined with soft powdery incense imparting a heady buzz. It gives a feeling of calm and clarity, perfect for introspection and relaxation. There's an air of magic and mystery to this one. It's aura is like drinking a perfect cup of the finest tea on an Autumn evening while reading your favorite book or watching your favorite movie, dressed in comfortable clothing or wrapped in a cozy blanket. It lends itself well to meditation as it truly has a spiritual vibe to the fragrance, like a temple with smoke from resins gently wafting through the atmosphere while a large meticulously kept ancient rose garden blooms on it's grounds. Who'd have guessed a few simple ingredients when blended together with such mastery could yield a fragrance this immense and powerful. This was a blind buy for me based on the Arab Taif rose only, I adore old garden roses such as Damask, Centifolia Muscosa, etc. and grow them myself. I was blown away by the sheer magnitude of The Black Rose and will buy it again and again. This is an amazing performer with all day longevity, fantastic projection and silage but it won't overpower anyone's senses.

konchokjenpa

It took me a while to formulate an opinion on this, because it's just honestly so unremarkable. It's... something. A fragrance. Generic, semi-floral with some kind of incense and vanilla thing happening, but not really anything standing out to me. It's fine. And the dry down becomes something more familiar... Bubble gum, like the old fashioned Bazooka Joe or Dubble Bubble. Not my favorite, not the worst thing I have ever smelled either, really just a shrug.

Planet_X

Perfect fragrance to wear when doing your Tarot reading or chanting mantras, like Usnisa Vijaya Dharani. It has candlike warmth, incensy swirls and spiritual inspiration. Very calm and reassuring, has class and certain dose of sweetness, which presents itself in rosey petals, floating among the white musk clouds. Development is somewhat nostalgic, full of vintage powdery vibe. It is dusky fragrance with fire-dust kind of feel, rather than being " moist" or bright. Must have for enigmatic introverts.

bel.gravia

Smells way better than the notes suggest. On me it smells like rose scented incense, nothing better for a cloudy, grey day. I smell even some myrrh, resins, balsams. It is worth its price, a mysterious and confident offering from the house of Trussardi. At the first spray it made me recall L'Agent by Agent Provovateur. Except Trussardi is smoother and has a brighter, alive rose. As Black Rose dries down it becomes more floral and slightly more friendly but never looses its darkness.

Bloomistry

I blind bought a bottle of this because I love Nina Ricci L'Extase Rose Absolue (created by Francis Kurkdjian) but find it too sweet and feminine. I wanted a more masculine rendering of Taif rose, and this is certainly that. It has notes almost identical to L'Extase Rose Absolue: both share pink pepper, Taif rose, vanilla, patchouli, and musk. Trussardi The Black Rose however has amber, whereas Nina Ricci L'Extase Rose Absolue has atlas cedar, benzoin, and black pepper. These fragrances are very different from each other.

Trussardi The Black Rose has a subtle floral character. It is not loud as florals and especially rose fragrances can sometimes be. Nor is it the syrupy candied jammy rose accord of Nina Ricci but instead a dark rose. The blending is peppery in the opening and patchouli forward, grounded in musk and amber, and the patchouli is earthy and dry. I tested this on one arm with Nina Ricci on the other and the latter was superior in blending, quality, naturalness of the rose, projection, and longevity. If you want a great Taif rose and enjoy sweet gourmand fragrances, L'Extase Rose Absolue is what you want, not this.

I have another from the Trussardi Exclusive Collection, Amber Oud, which I've had some time to experience. I found it on the discount shelves for 17.77 Canadian dollars so I'm happy. Amber Oud is synthetic (most oud is) but a synthetic done well. The Black Rose also has a synthetic character throughout. As another reviewer said, if you're acquainted with higher quality rose fragrances, you may find this one lacking. Note however I have found that the more I wear the Exclusive Collection line the more I like it. The performance was poor on first use but improved noticeably after some time, so if you think you've purchased a dud, don't despair. Give these Trussardi bottles a while to open up. They are not stellar performers but they are good.

Okay, I sprayed this before putting on my shirt for work. I washed it the night I got home, and the next morning, the chest area of my shirt still smelt like the perfume. This is for sure my signature scent at the moment, I'm in love with it.
It's such a beautiful rose scent, and is a bit powdery too. I do understand why this is labelled as "Dark" I'd definitely wear this for a date, or an intimate night.
It's a really good price too, give it a go and let it sit on your skin before you buy.

Robinfv

Quite nice, although a bit too watery for me. You smell the rose immediately, and not in a older women’s way. It’s a modern interpretation, high quality, contemporary scent in a beautifull high quality bottle. Only, as mentioned before, too watery and a bit too feminine for me. Won’t be buying this again, but nice enough to recommend.

Oleo

A wonderful perfume, perfectly unisex, that fits fabulously on a sophisticated man.

As you can imagine, the star of the show is a rose, a Taif rose: It's soft, creamy, subtle, slightly tannic and delicate... So this fragrance doesn't smell like the typical spicy and powdery rose, but fresh, green, mild and "alive".

This perfume opens with pink pepper too, giving way to the captivating rose that leads all the journey, where Vanilla, Amber, Musk and Patchouli act as supporting actors in a perfectly balanced concert.

- Longevity: Above average.
- Projection: Moderate with a classy aura.

Perfect for all seasons, avoiding excessive heat and cold.

As I said, the perfume is soft and even somewhat refreshing, so it’s suitable for well into spring or early summer. It goes great with a suit and also to perfume a romantic situation that involves calm and/or oriental exoticism.

- Conclusion:

•The Black Rose• by Trussardi is one of the best rose-based "designer" fragrances that a gentleman can wear.

Sex in a bottle

amanda.ratu

This is my signature scent.. this is quite cheap, good performance.. it so peppery rose.. strong n beautiful fragrance..

Diaryofsmallthings

Rose is most definitely the star of this gorgeous fragrance. A dark, rich and exotic rose. The pink pepper is strong on first spray and then peeking through from the spicy haze comes the Taif rose. It comes in gradually becoming stronger, warmer and richer until it's full beauty is realised and incorporated with a very well-done patchouli.

The rose never leaves and lingers through to the very last of this scent on your skin. For the first two hours I can clearly be smelt from over a metre away as I've been asked numerous times what I'm wearing! One commenter thought it was some sort of Turkish Delight oil haha!! It becomes more intimate after this time. A new favourite for me.

The Mystery Of The Taif Roses And Reasons Why They’re So Adored

If you read anything about Trussardi the Black Rose, you should know it is built around the heart of Taif roses. These blooms derive from the land of Taif in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. While the Damask Rose is known for its deep and potent fragrance in the West, in the Arabian world the Taif Rose is renowned for the same properties. Often described as astonishingly aromatic, these 30 petal roses create a unique fragrance that is intense, yet magnificent. I find the fragrance of Taif Rose absolute to be enigmatic at first. Originally, it is quite a mild and spicy floral. As the fragrance develops, the smell of rose becomes clearer and the sweet pink rose notes combined with soft honey notes have a great deal of strength and long-lasting depth.

The Black Rose revealed to me that things aren’t so black, and this scent is an unexpected rose. The scent evolves through a spicy, floral, and chypre phases. The first thing that comes to mind when I smell this bouquet is an exotic liqueur from Arabian nights. A pink pepper note is set at the very opening, blended with the bright and light pink flowers whose yellow heart spreads an intense and persistent perfume. Close your eyes and imagine to walk over a pink flowering carpet and the air plenty with their delicate fragrance.

The heart is nothing but rose, syrup rose. The quintessential aroma of Taif rose is warm, highly tenacious, immensely rich, deeply rose adorned with spicy and occasionally honey-like notes. It holds a powerful and complex fragrant scent that entices the senses. Nature has conceived an alluring and captivating aromatic redolence that is considered the best in the Middle East. The exotic Saudi-Arabian rose is the true heart of the scent.

The base concludes in a classic chypre, warm, and oriental way, with notes of sumptuous vanilla, chocolaty patchouli, suave musk, enigmatic amber, and emotional resins, connecting the East and the West through scent. The heady of the Orient mixed with a salty Mediterranean air. Ain't no oud here, which puts this cologne in the same class with Montale Roses Musk.

Fall is an ideal time for this scent. It’s the time when the abundance of its ripe and juicy scent is in harmony with chilly air, yellowish leaves and last days of sunlight. It is labeled as unisex and gourmands of both sexes will know how to enjoy it. There is a lot of wisdom in this fragrance proving Trussardi's genius. It suits workdays at the office, so delicate, not offensive, with moderate sillage yet long-lasting longevity.

sopke

A really nice and well-balanced creature. For me it has nothing in common with 'black'. It smells like roses, sand, dry grass and heat.
The main difference from Lumiere - no cloying sweetness, BR is very sophisticated and not cheap. And i find it less sharp than JHG Vengeance. A perfect blind buy for me.

justilou

This has won me over, and I am not generally a lover of rose in fragrance. (It usually reminds me of cheap candles or bathroom sprays.) This is warmer and unobtrusive, staying close to the body. On me it is definitely not a unisex smell fragrance. It is like a less cloying version of Narciso. (Which I adore, but it can be a bit heady.) For some reason when I wear this, I have strangers stopping me and asking what fragrance it is.... yet another discontinued (In Australia) Trussardi fragrance that has that effect. If they ever bring back Skin, I’m stockpiling it!!!

'The Black Rose' definitely has that unisex vibe albeit very soft yet not particularly masculine, just suitable for either sex. That's just an opinion.
I don't believe one has to stick to the notion that fragrances must be exclusive to one sex or the other or the others and according to marketing.
If you like it? Wear it!
I used to reach more for my fathers and boyfriends fragrances in my youth anyway and I have always maintained a partiality to design houses daring enough to produce fragrances such as 'The Black Rose' Bold and Brave.
Chemistry is chemistry and each of us wears fragrances identifiably and uniquely individual to our respective pheromones.
'The Black Rose' is quite soft and at the moment I have a hankering for Rose scented fragrances, with my extensive collection in storage, most of which I will probably sell one day, I have amassed a ridiculously massive and excessive travelling selection.
Anyway. 'The Black Rose' does have a similar vibe minus the strong musk to 'L'Exstase EDP, yet somewhat less of a Cacharel spice with a patchouli undertone which is surprisingly subtle yet predominant and not dirty at all. I hope that makes sense.
The Rose more specifically the Taif rose is noticeable in an exquisite spiciness all of it's own.
Very exotic, very erotic. I can almost imagine the private harem boudoirs scented just like 'The Black Rose'. Not that I am advocating for and have no desire for that lifestyle personally. 'The Black Rose' evokes images of middle eastern cultures, their exotic markets, hawking silks, spices and an array of perfumed oils and rose of attar... All intimate, intimate because this fragrance settles within a coupe of hours after application into a skin scent yet it does last well into 12 hours plus, a bonus.
'The Black Rose' is well suited to layering, as is what I do with a bit of experimentation, highlighting the beauty of this fragrance which incidentally I absolutely adore.
The flacon is beautiful too, simple yet not exactly somewhat reminiscent of Bvlgari flacons, in gestalt, though visually completely different. Just noting the companionable design principles..
It's a rosy scent with a patchouli note very well done. It's long lived and I can see this as a unisex scent well suited to layering with similar fragrances or a rose solinote.

Tazahr

Beautiful rose fragrance. Dry and not overly sweet or jammy. Very elegant and light with the classy Taif rose.

If you found it discounted get it.

chandra.goldie.aulia

I tried this because the saleswoman told me it's unisex. At first I thought it was, thankly I waited for the drydown, it's close to unisex but it's still way too feminine to categorize it as unisex. The drydown is full of powdery rose, I think that's the taif rose taking place.

ScarlettX

This is a dark oriental rose fragrance.
Rose, musk, patchouli and amber are the main notes indeed.
It's very very masculine, I don't think I would like to wear it.
Not a good one even in masculine way, when I think about it.
I won't try it again.

LadyIva

I love this type of rose fragrances very much. It is a darkish, peppery rose adorned with patchouli, on a musky base. It is very much unisex, sort of similar to fragrances such as NR Rose Musc, JHAG Lady Vengeance, FM Portrait of a Lady and the best of them all, MFK Oud Silk Mood. Obviously in terms of quality these high-end fragrances that I’ve listed trump Trussardi The Black Rose easily, but you get what you paid for. So I’d say that The Black Rose is a cheaper, less impactful, mainstreamed version of Oud Silk Mood and the likes. It is not worth paying the full price for, because its sillage and longevity leave a lot to be desired; but I’ll wait for this fragrance to be discounted and then buy a bottle as an everyday substitute for Silk Mood.

diego.lesgart

Is really UNISEX!? In my country "is" or shops tell us is for her

groover

This one reminds me a bit of
ferrari essence oud, it may be
due to the strong rose, this one
however is better blended in my
opinion. It is a dark soft spicy
rose scent whit very good quality,
the drydown smells like caramel just
like Ferrari oud essence.
The scent itself leans a bit more feminine but
if you like Tom ford black orchid, chances
are high that you will like this one too as
they are in the same scent category.

Parfumista2010

To me this is Dior Homme with some cherries and a hint of marzipane. The namegiving rose is not detectable to me that much.....I see this as a summertime gourmand. Sweet scent but more like a honeygolden chiffon scarf.

qatarkind

I tried it today it's soft oriental rose frag. Very beautiful.

nfainan

Taif roses note ??! This is so weird floralcy and oriental scent i think it will be good for arabic women with some incense.

rednut

l'extase Rose Absolue anyone? Nina Ricci? an awaited yet still not available fragrance.........
This looks to have the same notes

CherryBlossom

Maybe this could be similar to L’Extase Nina Ricci, by the bottle and notes. I will love it by the way.
