ina.rem

A delightful blend of ripe, juicy peaches and cold white flowers creates a refreshing joyful spring scent. Ideal for spring and summer.

Tochudesign

It feels like a luxury shampoo for me in a good way, it is little bit alike with crayon so it take a nostalgic for me. But unfortunately the performance in my skin is just about 1 hour then become skin scent that i have to literally put my arm to the nose to smell it.

Tincel

Soapy floral, slightly sweet/fruity. Well done and airy, but a soapy floral nonetheless.

Perfume_junkie_UK

Fresh cut grass, freshly blooming flowers (clean/none indolic jasmine, osmanthus and carnation mostly), and honey, all in abundance.

Definitely get a heavy blast of oranges in the opening, but it settles/mixes nicely with the other notes into the background.

Very beautiful scent. Perfectly blended notes.
Uncle Serge rarely fails me!! My favourite perfume house.

I love this! Truly. It suits me perfectly and will be a fantastic spring/summer favourite.

Mademoiselle Rêve

After a refreshing beginning, an hour after spraying it is very similar to J'adore and J'adore Parfum d'Eau, a cousin of them, one could say! (Probably a more nuanced one, but I would need more tests to claim that)

Siennai

This smells exactly like a market in Istanbul on an August day morning, particularly the seedless green grapes but with the greenness of other fruit and veg around...and maybe shampoo too

Neverapeoplepleaser

Not my most favourite Lutens...but very pleasant none the less. I'm testing in the wet Autumn which does it no favours. I feel like I would totally vibe with this on a warm summers evening. I get most of the notes listed here, plus the green notes I feel give it almost an apple thing going on. Love the lily and osmanthus here. Although doesn't knock your socks off, it does linger very nicely and wafts up subtlely throughout the day. Great intro to SL for placid, floral fruity lovers.
If you like this and want to try another SL, I'd probably then go onto Feminité Du Bois.

seoul_soulnyc

I don't think a human lady wearing this fragrance. It has a surrealistic beauty. A sheer delight of dawn.

Rjhuggi

At first sniff to my nose I get sweet ripe tangerine peel in the best possible way then dries down to a beautiful creamy , citrusy white floral. It's a strong like for me and absolutely full bottle worthy especially if you want to smell pretty and not so in your face like other SL fragrances can be (which is more my style). I do own it and I do wear it when the occasion calls for it.

Ms._45

I just received my order of this, blind bought based on notes & reviews & familiarity with a few other SL. I love it … I read a lot of the reviews prior. It smell’s exactly like I imagined & wanted. It’s prob my new signature for day at least. I think it will work well for fall actually. It just smells youthful but sophisticated to me, like this will complete most daily fashion looks, smells like: high fashion, well blended, not too strong or sweet or fruity … & I think that was the overall vibe SL was going for. It works. Like as I’m wearing it in my pjs, no makeup, it makes me feel like I have my makeup on & my hair is shampooed & styled & I’m wearing the best lotion & skincare products … It’s more youthful to me than Narciso Ambree which I’ve been wearing lately since got that a few days ago. That’s pretyy mature on me. & I’m 35 … This is just very easy to wear with anything, & that’s what I wanted in a signature that I will constantly grab. I wanted something that made me feel like a pretty, mature but youthful woman who is styled & put together. I think it will be pretty lightly misted all over in my hair also. It makes me feel sexy just because it’s giving a strong, stylish vibe. I might even consider wearing it on a first date because it’s also kind of playful & pretty so far. I think it can be for evening. I might be the only one who sorta detects an evening formal feeling also. Fun & cute for a date, I think men would love it. This is prob the only perfume out of my growing collection, I wanna wear with everything now. Hooray! It seems to work really well with my chemistry right now, super chic … & can go day to evening. I will update when learn how long it lasts. Sillage seems good so far …

KöbiD

This is such a fun fragrance! The opening reminds me right away of those fruity, pink bubblegums. And honestly, this is the most realistic bubblegum note that I have smelled in a perfume so far (looking at you, Moschino Toy 2 Bubblegum). Anyhow, the bubblegum note disappears after a few minutes and a lovely symphony of sweet white flowers emerges. The flowers never get indolic and they keep their playful sweetness until the end. The jasmine note is not comparable to the indolic one in A la Nuit. I think this is a fragrance that could be appreciated by many and it just shows how versatile the Serge Lutens fragrance range is.

Petula009

This is Serge's take on J'adore. I like both fragrances and I do enjoy this shampoo vibe style of fragrances. Feminine, nostalgic, refined. Not complicated. Maybe linear? I don't care, I love this.
Vibes: luxury shampoo, clean, floral
Form: 2ml sample

violeteme

On the first glance Nuit de Cellophane may seem boring, pedestrian and juvenile. But the more I smell it, the more nuances I get, the more nostalgia, memories it brings in, the more it envelops into a truly feminine, poetic piece. Adorable, demure, archetypical, nostalgic, even softly melancholic. On one side it's a beautiful summer night, soft scent of a body cream, wavy hair just washed, a long silk skirt...on the other side it's poetry, a mystical tale of womanhood told in the softest way. In its core it reminds me of those perfumes that somehow stick to a person, reminding of him, they smell slightly weird, unique, sometimes even unpleasant, but captivating. Smelling this, I feel like a young girl watching my mother doing all those beautiful, relaxed rituals of beauty and thinking to myself I want to be like her someday. To me it also embodies that all beauty is ephemeral, finite, which evokes a certain melancholia, and for this reason must be appreciated while it lasts.
Nuit de Cellophane smells quite different on the skin and on clothes. On clothes it is quite proper, shampoo-ish, on the skin - sensual. It is a very unique perfume, I can't compare it with anything else. The vastly compared J'Adore seems to be much more perfumey, I don't like it, it doesn't present that beautiful softness. Osmanthus, lily, jasmine and some fruity notes are the main characters here.

jlfears

This is the Osmanthus version of the original J’Adore. It’s not as “perfume-y” as the Dior and has much cleaner elements to it—bordering on shampoo—but still has phenomenal staying power.

This is a great one but isn’t for me. I have a new bottle available for swap within the US.

klioux

Bright and sweet jasmine with some fresh green stemminess. It is uncharacteristically uncomplicated for a Serge Lutens fragrance. The white florals in here are very Chinese to me, like walking through Century Park on a humid overcast day. Unfortunately for me this becomes increasingly saccharine and powdery on my skin, almost like it's trying to sneak up on me and drown me in sweet powder.

Edit: the Chinese floral I'm detecting is OSMANTHUS. I had the pleasure of stumbling upon the Serge Lutens pop-up in Shanghai a couple months ago, in the height of osmanthus season, and the note was easily identifiable. The familiarity of osmanthus is a win for me personally.

jet199

Makes you smell like you just stepped out of the shower all day. Apparently some people don't like smelling like they had a shower. Fine, you do you. (joking)

This freshness isn't just because there's a soapy smell or because it has notes often used in soap and shampoo. I swear there is something in white floras which opens up the airways like olbas oil. You get the effect of a sort of minty freshness without any mint. Smells like a cold fresh air as well as the listed notes. Likely they are using the same tactics with scent that detergent companies use to keep your clothes smelling fresh all day and I'm here for it.

Anyway, the feeling I'm looking for in my white florals right now is "haunting" and this is a bit too nice and fruity for that, but nearly there.

elledeelee

Fruity white floral hairspray. Bright and sweet, it starts off smelling like backstage at a kid's ballet show, where little girls have their hair scraped painfully into braids and buns that are aggressively smothered in all number of strong hold gels, sprays, and mousses. And so, it's an incredibly nostalgic scent for me.
As it wafts it becomes decidedly quite spicy, which I really enjoy. Lily is also present. And just like those little ballerinas, this is an enthusiastic performer.

Lolapoop

it's provocatively pretty and that is what makes it niche. It's so pretty ,it makes it feel like a guilty pleasure.I get the cellophane concept. Nothing in nature can smell so pretty hence the cellophane .Though there is a plasticine vibe after an hour or so....who knows

mejohann

The name always gets me, and for this reason keep my small vial. But I swear the new batches smell noticeably synthetic compared to 10 years ago. If you're sensitive to synthetics, definitely give this one a pass. It's heart doesn't seem to be made of true floral extracts anymore. It used to smell very real, but now has a cheapness and headache-inducing quality to it that keeps me from wearing it. The mandarin also seems to have taken a lesser role, so this has become a more indolic synthetic flower bomb. Unfortunately it's on par with BBW now :(

darkflaneuse

Pretty jasmine scent that lasts for 4-5 hours. It smells nice (sweet and fresh, not saccharine) but is bland compared to Lutens’ other, way more interesting scents, so I wouldn’t pay $150 for it.

Air of Grace

Just an update on my previous review after full spraying from my now purchased bottle .

Opening notes are mainly Osmanthus on my skin, I don’t find it weaving any apricot nuances . Just a noticeable Osmanthus with a touch of spice . Maybe the light , spicy notes come from the carnation . Anyway , this distinct scent lasts at least half an hour . And it’s HEADY! Don’t bypass this scent while it’s in this opening stage .

Then the fresh, green lightness of the florals - the Jasmine and Lily come through. I believe there are added aldehydes despite it not being mentioned in the perfume notes . The reason being is that the scent exudes such cool , soapy like freshness which some reviewers mention resemble shampoo .

Or is it Serge’s metallic , icy floral trend such as with La Vierge de Fer? Whatever it is, this frostiness sets it apart from mainstream fruity , white florals and I love it !

To me , the musk is quite minimal , just enough to give it a slight powdery depth without smelling like powder. Almond and woody notes are hardly noticeable .

Nothing indolic/ animalic or cloying . Just how I like it.

I don’t get warmth, as mentioned this is a cool scent to me . Like an icy , cold freshness . The right amount of sweetness from the honey and the plummy fruits . It’s all well blended and I’m in love with this floral scent . Wish I tried it earlier .

It’s summer now and it’s such an easy go to fragrance . Not offensive , can be worn in the office actually anywhere cause who ever complained of a clean , just showered , light floral .

Don’t laugh 😂 but I find this fragrance very sexy . Just like being soapy clean ready for intimacy . I’m just not a fan of sweaty , natural odours 😆

Lots of talk about this being too simple/ boring for Serge Lutens perfume house but I would like to think there is a market for everyone . Don’t like complex , unusual notes ruining it for me . I put it down to it being “ more wearable” than a few of his other edgier , complex scents and that to me is a good thing .

This is a classic beauty , timeless , pure and innocent . Yet not only for the young . I’m in my 50s and this personifies refinement and class to me . Quality ingredients and definitely not synthetic smelling .

Just bought another bottle , this time 100mls as it’s becoming my daily summer scent and my original 50 mls is half gone 💓

Air of Grace

I gave up on Serge Lutens fragrances awhile back due to its edgy notes and extreme potency on my skin .

Projection and longevity were always astounding. I understood and admired their quality but I personally couldn’t pull off a lot of his fragrances . Too many unusual spices / resins for my tastes .

Out of the blue, I decided to try Nuit de Cellophane at the department store .Being a green, white floral lover , it was on my “ to try list “ and it always came up as a recommendation from Fragrantica.

I was so pleasantly surprised ! What a a pretty , fresh, clean floral with depth. Not groundbreaking but of quality composition .

Wow! I was hooked ! Loved it so much that I bought a bottle . It’s just my cup of tea.

On my skin , this arms’s length scent has great longevity . Its freshness never makes this a heavy scent and I can still smell the fragrance 8 hrs later.

The freshness , I believe comes from the Lily , green notes and the orange .

I agree with a few reviewers that the name is ambiguous . This is a delicate , light scent for me . Better suited as a day scent so not sure why it’s named Night ? Transparent night ? I do agree it’s a sheer scent though .

However , I don’t agree with the fragrance being similar to J’adore . I buy J’adore for my mum twice a year. Its has been her signature scent for over twenty years . It’s not for me as a perfume but I order this creamy beauty as the fragrance in my candles .

Upon smelling NdC, J’adore never came to mind maybe because this is of a lighter formulation with honey and Osmanthus . ( though the Osmanthus doesn’t turn too peachy on me )

halogencat

Very charming, sweet and versatile peachy osmanthus fragrance. Very fresh and clean smelling - like expensive hotel soap or something. Impossible to imagine disliking this, it's pretty understated but not that remarkable or long-lasting. Could easily blind-buy although it leans young and girly.

QuincesI

Very intimate and delicate, a skin scent, but not uninteresting.

A lot of white flowers, the very clean feel of osmanthus (which is in this perfume more apricot than any other fruit, in my opinion), without really having the jasmine-lily side to it. On my skin, I think it's surprising and finally less classic than it looked at the beginning, with very small scents of honeyed almond.

Very light, not overly complex without being too flat or too conventional, in short. A sweet word, a simple pleasure, for those days when you would have a headache with anything else. The hold is pretty good on my skin but the sillage is very light.

kookaburra1000

You’re that girl. You’re that sweet girl who shampoos her hair four times a week…you are fresh, clean, caring and charming. You keep little European soaps in your bathroom that collect dust because you think they’re too precious to use. Your name is probably Sarah or Claire.

OlgaOT

Definite J’adore vibes! I haven’t smelled J’adore in years if not a decade so cannot be more specific I’m afraid but testing Nuit de Cellophane just evoked memories of that scent. Probably the most mass appealing from Serge Lutens as well (I started introducing a friend who likes watery smells to Serge with this one and so far — successful).

malikun

I read a lot of positive reviews about SL and I ordered the discovery set for my mom from their US website, only paid 65$ for 8 tubes😍 The opening of NdC was so good, smelled like apricots/osmanthus/fig vibes. After a while it started to smell like Head and Shoulders on me, I mean I like it just wouldn’t shell out so much on a H&S fragrance😂But I aint complaining - it was a free sample anyway! now looking forward to hearing feedback from my mom about the whole set

likesleet

this just smelled vaguely fruity. i liked it, nothing wrong with it but i could never identify this in a lineup.

MadMadCat

This is a surprisingly mainstream scent for Serge Lutens, and it would be mainstream for pretty much any other brand.
The opening is mostly jasmine and orange juice, sweet and fresh, the middle notes are sweet and fruity, and the dry down is the standard musk/sandalwood combo, although of high quality. It's "pretty" and quite generic. I think that in the Luten's world these two words are major insults. It becomes a skin scent within a couple of hours.

Autumn_Moon

I agree with those who feel like this one gives off a "shampoo-like" vibe. Ditto for those who have commented that this is an "easy" Lutens to wear.

When I first dabbed this on to my skin from my sample vial, I was reminded of candied raisins, of all things. (And now I am craving candied raisins. Which I don't have on hand. Oh, well! :) )

After that wore off, NdC became mostly fruit (a lot of juicy, almost candy-like peach showed up) and soft, fuzzy florals (primarily lily) with what feels like a very clean, white musk. The floral element feels a bit like a photo that is intentionally blurred/out-of-focus for artistic effect. Once it settles down, that freshly-washed-hair/shampoo feeling settles in, and it stays fairly linear for the rest of the ride. It's very clean -- no animalic facets lurking in the shadows here, and no unexpected surprises. So long as it isn't over-applied, I find it highly unlikely that anyone would find it offensive.

If your end goal is to smell nice, this may fit the bill. There's nothing here that I felt I had to "push through" or endure or puzzle over in order to reach the next stage of the perfume's evolution. If you're looking for a challenge or something with multiple nuances and complexity, though, there are other Lutens scents which achieve those objectives. I don't think that's what this one was designed for.

Will I use the rest of my sample? Sure. Would I pay full retail price for a bottle? No.

Bubbles1964

The easiest to wear from the Serge Lutens lineup; a white floral with juicy fruits and honey medley. This is so smooth and balanced, you may not think you are wearing a niche perfume. Nuit de Cellophane is not challenging—or more importantly, different— in any way.

Enrium

Nuit de Cellophane is a pleasant but unexceptional floral-fruity scent, nicely composed with good quality ingredients. A cut above other scents in this category, but not groundbreaking, it is an easy-breezy sweet jasmine scent - pretty, simple and youthful, like a sweeter J'Adore Dior. I cannot understand the significance of the name - it is more of a daytime scent than "nuit" suggests, and "cellophane" likely equals transparent, but it is not light enough to warrant a transparency reference.

NC opens with a sweet, fruity accord that brings to mind tinned fruit cocktail, but not in a bad way. Notes of sweet mandarin, peach and apricot are most evident, joined presently by a sweet, clean jasmine note. As it develops, the white floral accord really comes to the fore. Waxy lily and jasmine are most evident, underscored by a sweet peach-almond accord. Bold, lush and heady, it is quite pungent. As it begins to dry down, woody notes creep in, with some honey adding rich sweetness. The florals become more powdery, and it fades to a sweet musky skin scent eventually. Sillage and longevity are moderate.

NC is fairly linear and predictable, but nicely put together. A sweet, youthful scent with potential mass appeal, but perhaps overpriced for what it is. A nice alternative to J'Adore, but nothing special. Likeable regardless. 3/5.

francesmendez

somewhat of an older scent but still bright enough to be worn by younger people without being too mature. would be worn by miss devenue in la sirène du mississippi; femme fatale, soft, sweet, dangerous, fleeting, stinging

Gioia's secret

It is a love from the first sniff❤️ In windy weather NdC makes you feel like all the flowers of this world are dancing around you with the rhythm of the music, I can literally hear Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of Flowers on the background.
NdC is very bright, incredibly beautiful and inspiring fragrance that makes me feel happy, beautiful and special at the same time, as nothing else does smell like NdC🥰

Compositeur

I'm the last person to claim to know what goes through Serge's mind, but could cellophane mean transparent? As in, the transparent scent of jasmine wafted through the window on a warm night's breeze?! Or even, a description of the level of humidity in the atmosphere?
In any case, performance wise, I noticed longevity is pretty solid (round the 8-9 hour mark), but I think, from reading the reviews here, that a lot of people don't realize this because sillage is discreet (it turns into a skin scent). But, the musk lingers. So in effect I find this to be a musk scent (from mid-point onwards, after the flowers have disappeared). I use it as such, i.e. a musk-centred perfume. I replaced Clair de musk with this.

AnlisaC

I have always loved this fragrance. Such a soft floral on me and lasts all day. I finally found it again at a discount website because I was running low and wanted to have another bottle in my collection. It isn’t easy to find, wow except for the Serge Lutens website where it was very pricey….well I love this so much I may have paid that price lol. I have always loved Serge scents they are definitely unusual to me and have a special place in my heart because they were the first niche fragrances I had purchased. So with this scent it is the one I love the most. This is a spring summer favorite of mine and the longevity is long on me up to 9 hours. the Jasmine and osmanthus stick out on me but not in a sharp way very soft and comforting. Gives me yellow floral vibes almost beachy but not suntan scent. Can’t wait to wear to again.

loversclub

This was a blind buy, as most of the reviews on here suggested that Nuit de Cellophane was nice and inoffensive enough for me to get it without testing it first. It's sharper than I expected it to be, and I get a lot of the fruity notes at first. It's bright, clean, and sparkly. I do see where the comparisons to Korean shampoo come from, but I think that it's interesting and sophisticated enough to differentiate it.

Mystères du Château de Dé

The first hour is delightful. Sure I get the shiny white flowers, fruit and plastic, and the animated city market street ambiance. Then the white flowers fade and I completely lose interest, at this price. If only it was a dimestore treasure.

ScentedPlaza

A large size bouquet with white flowers. Crisp, fresh, extra floral, clean and bold..

Ruby Galore

Why are flowers and gifts wrapped in cellophane? Why is one rose more beautiful in cellophane than without? For the same reason that the night wrapped in cellophane is more beautiful..because it sparkles! :)))

Ruby Galore

This one is really interesting. I don’t know what the osmanthus that everyone mentions smells like. Strong flowers. It reminds me a little of that floral sweet note in Pure Musc For Her Narciso Rodriguez.
If it was a lamp, it would be fluorescent. Its name is great because of that neon shimmering modern artificial floral scent, although they say it is not artificial, it could also be called ‘Neon Light’.

rosenoir

It smells 'nice' but like a Korean shampoo. I feel like you would have come across scents like these in a supermarket shampoo.

brettashley

The smell of osmanthus flowers always reminds me of Taiwan. It’s deeply tied to, I dunno, traditional Taiwanese activities like looking at the moon and drinking tea (sounds stereotypical but honestly, true). And I’ve always wanted a very true osmanthus-jasmine-tea-incense perfume to take me back to the (olfactory) shores of Taiwan. Serge Lutens’ Nuit de Cellophane doesn’t quite get there because the osmanthus falls flat upon dry down, and the jasmine doesn’t radiate like a humid summer night, and I see what people mean by shampoo, by clean laundry musk, by linens. I’m looking to be engulfed by warm summer nights so humid, you could swallow the air. I’ll keep looking, but I’ll enjoy using up the sample for that first beautiful blast of white florals that seemed so promising initially.

emerson10

Very linen-y/detergenty to my nose.

lovesick

a painting of a flower by an agoraphobe. calculated efforts at seeming effortless. salons and their innate dissonance, hairsprays clashing with conditioners, vanity clashing with insecurity. rubber-faced plush toys, smickering with springy cheeks. a film about falling in love in paris by someone who's never set foot in france. a void, and the futile measures one is willing to take to hide it from the outside world. authentically inauthentic. a lack.

deceptively delightful opening: a rush of jasmine, illuminated by a subtle apricot-like sweetness from gentle osmanthus with a slightly smoky undertone. mere minutes later, all of the enjoyable, recognizable white floral notes quickly disappear to be replaced by locks lavated with shampoo, white lotion, a lifeless doll fresh out of its packaging, oleaginous soap, and hints of dry grass. the facade cannot be maintained.
a puff of synthetic perfume dressed up as a lily, begging you to call her angelic, to pull her closer, yet when you reach out, your hand phases through her like a hologram. what is left is a generic, light, 'nice' scent that all would immediately recognize as a vague entity of Perfume with a capital P, full stop. not jasmine, not osmanthus, not fruit, but an unidentifiable, unremarkable 'perfume.' offensively inoffensive. hollow and soulless.

not remotely dark or suitable for nighttime, despite its title; in fact, a more appropriate name would have been 'jour de salon.'

songs for nuit de cellophane: i want to be you by your funeral, 22 faces by garden of delight.

Perfumatrix

Okay, look. Je t'aime, Oncle Serge. I love his crazy, difficult perfumes, his moody, poetic ad copy, all that. But sometimes, you don't want to work that hard. Sometimes you don't want an avant-garde, oh-so sophisticated offering that smells like kumquats, fresh Brussels sprouts, moth balls and burning motor oil (but it's sooo unique and provocative and all the perfume bloggers are happily dissecting its every nuance!) Sometimes, you just want "You smell pretty." Full stop. Monsieur Lutens has you covered, with offerings like Sa Majeste la Rose, Clair de Musc, Santal Blanc . . . and this. If you don't like osmanthus, apricots, and jasmine, great--but don't complain that this smells of osmanthus, apricots, and jasmine. It just does.

Sometimes an easy, fresh, sweet thing is what you are after. Do you need to pay Lutensian prices to get it? Well, no. But in my case, I picked up a 5ml decant, cheap, to see what everyone was so miffed about. And I will wear it on days when I want "You smell pretty," and don't want to have to think hard to appreciate my perfume, or wait half an hour for some weird, twisted top note to burn off. With NdeC, I use a sandalwood oil first as a fixative, and voila, I've got a good rainy-day, springlike scent that men enjoy, I enjoy, and there you have it. Cheers, friends.

theonlyht

I was drawn to this because the osmanthus... but I have to say this is nothing like the osmanthus in my memory. What I get is more like jasmine and white flowers. And it's pretty linear, not worth the price tag or the name.

LaContessina

I waited a long time before trying this one as I was puzzled by the non enthusiastic reviews about Nuit de Cellophane.
I was scared about this plastic, artificial cellophane/shampoo note that everybody seems to be bothered about.
Well, in my case, I cannot detect specifically cellophane nor shampoo.
There is a hint of something chemical, that makes it similar to a common mainstream fragrance. That's to say, it's not so unique!

The main point of Nuit de Cellophane is a bunch of flowers and apricot on a musk/sandalwood base.
The apricot is given by the massive presence of osmanthus, that will -unfortunately - disappear in the drydown.
Again, I don't get the name; nothin here evokes the night; yes, there is some jamsine (and we all know that the Jasmine flowers, on a plant, give their richest scent after sunset), there is this apricot feeling, and this makes is an almost common fruity floral.
Fleeting.

To me, easily forgettable at the price point for such low performance.

Premices

I had great expectations for it, but it doesn't smell like the Osmanthus flower.

hsiangchi.huang

It caught my attention because of the "osmanthus", and I admit, it's definitely noticeable. HOWEVER, Serge Luten has a dark interpretation of this dainty sweet yellow flower - it smells ROTTEN! I don't what it is... but somehow there's a dark bitter twist to it.

As someone who grew up with osmanthus, I have a nostalgic feeling towards this flower. Till this day I still cannot find a good OSMANTHUS perfume...

Murmur123123

If anyone has smelt the real sweet Osmanthus flowers in Asia, and has eaten any of the Osmanthus desserts, including the osmanthus flowers preserved in sugar to be used as sprinkles on Chinese desserts - this perfume does present that very realistic aspect of thick sweet osmanthus smell. This may not be a crowd pleaser, but I like it for that sweetness.

KittygirlZ

This was recommended to me as an osmanthus scent. It is not. If your looking for that ever elusive osmanthus fragrance, look further. I agree with others here who compare this to the scent of a florist shop. This is a sharp, and noisy floral. Not for me, but my sister will love it.

Malifiscent

This is such a bright, feel-good type of scent. I wouldn't consider it fresh, but it definitely has a clean, dewy and airy vibe to it. A quality floral shampoo with a slight tart and peachy (not the smell of peach, more a peachy vibe) topping coming from the osmanthus, backed up by an airy smoothness in the base. The delicate creamy smoothness is vaguely more apparent as it dries down. When you get close enough to get a waft of someone's hair to discover how clean and pretty they smell, and it instantly puts a smile on your face; that is what Nuit de Cellophane feels like. An uplifting and bubbly scent, not in a little girl type of way, but more so a youthful sophistication.

Violinplayah

Fresh, light, clean. If you’re looking for Lutens weirdness, this does not have it. It does however have the sensation in the aroma of a fresh blossom- it’s not heavy, oily or stuffy, and has that saltiness that real flower fragrance has sometimes. It’s nectary. I like it. It’s a good springtime event fragrance.

I totally agree with comments below about Japan/Korean shampoo smells. It really does smell like it and it reminds me of getting clean and dressed up to hang out with my friends after using Korean shampoo. This is a nostalgic scent to me and I think it is very pleasing for anyone. This is not offensive at all. I recommend if you want a great daytime scent for everyday including work. This is a clean, floral/fruity, that is youthful and bright without being cheap. It is good quality!

cresol

A very pretty translucent sweet, white osmanthus. A pleasant but altogether fully unremarkable offering from Lutens and a complete departure from previous releases. This is definitely not challenging or even bad, but for the price tag it's a hard no.

Forever Neil

Sexual shampoo that resembles a flower shop. This fragrance turns me on. Leans feminine.

KayleeAp

This is a light nice scent. I agree with everyone who mentions this has shampoo vibes. I actually get a hair spray type smell, but close enough. To me, this isn't a bad thing. Its pleasant, generically fruity-floral (perhaps slightly leaning towards jasmine) that won't likely offend anyone. I approve :)

glutencherrypit

I'm testing this right now and here's what this fragrance is conjuring up in my mind as I smell it:
Imagine that you've taken a shower, used a nice floral-fruity shampoo, dried and styled your hair, maybe even applied some floral-fruity hair product on top of everything. Then later that day it starts raining and your hair gets a little wet and as soon as you get yourself indoors again you start getting little wafts of the same floral-fruity smell reminiscent of your shampoo and hair spray. Somehow getting your hair wet again seems to have reactivated the fragrance and you find yourself pleasantly surprised by how mellow and comforting it seems when it's muted and dispersed by the warmth of your body and the natural oils of your skin.

How pleasant and evocative this feels! Which is why it's so surprising that when I try to analyze the notes, I can't pick up on anything in particular other than osmanthus in a little cloud of nondescript barely there fruity and flowery notes. It seems nice and even simple in its soapiness. Or maybe deceptively simple? To me this is the type of fragrance that I would want to smell once in a while to give my olfactory brain something to think about, but I don't necessarily see myself wearing this as a perfume.

"The spirit of Parisian haute couture, its ethereal and dreamlike world, is incarnated in this glimpse through a translucent cellophane veil, in a night suffused with the cooling fragrance of mandarin and osmanthus."

Fruity, white flower, then the carnation adds some sharpness to it. Then there is a soapy-ness to it, which isn't the clean musky soaps I'm acquainted with -no it's actually more like hairspray. And then the lily, it's so very loud. I admire a lily, it reminds me of my mom and of my childhood. Here it is overwhelming. For the first hour this is quite headache inducing. But it does tame itself and the white florals relax and blur into one another. When the softness settles, it is quite delicate and feminine. I love the top notes in this, but they dissipate too quickly. Overall, a decent soapy fragrance. 6.5/10

natasha.wahyudihardjo

Well, well, well. Isn't this one unique fragrance? I do not think it smells like Do Son at all. They don't even smell remotely alike although both of them are heavy on white florals. They are different. Do Son is that one girl enjoying vacation at a tropical coast, her white dress billowing and she is up for that one fleeting but romantic summer fling.

Nuit de Cellophane is composed of white florals, but I can totally see why it is suitable for nighttime wear. It is mysterious in all its glorious plasticky notes. I can see myself slapping that man suit, going to a bar located in the basement, ordering a good ol' manhattan or old fashioned while lighting my cigar. It makes me feel powerful and mysterious. The first Serge Lutens I smelled and boy did it not disappoint.

adrianaiyo

A perfume for a date. This is a scent which Asian boys will usually like and accept.
This perfume reminds me of the shampoo scent which is very popular among Japanese guys (according to some researches performed by the media), but a more classy, sophisticated and mature (not the age-wise, but manner-wise).

Many reviews address it as "an expensive shampoo scent", and suggested that it's osmanthus note is very un-obvious. In my opinion, I agree with the first part, but not the second, at least on me, the osmanthus scent is very noticeable since the opening, although it is distracted by the other white flowers.
The kind of sweet, apricot scent of osmanthus is not there, at least I don't get it :(

If one is looking for the osmanthus scent which you is found in Asian cuisine or the osmanthus scent you got from its tree, you may want to skip it.
If one is looking for an everyday perfume, a very feminine, sophisticate one, or one for meeting the guys you like, recommended.

duckduck1995

The opening is very pleasant and ethereal due to the combination of the white florals (Osmanthus, Jasmine and Lily). It gives off an airy vibe which comes off very naturally. Some would consider the opening to err onto the feminine side of things, but I feel the dry down becomes more unisex. The dry down consists of the fruity notes (some sort of berries?) and musk to give it a snuggly floral vibe.

The performance is pretty average, I get around 3-4 hours and leave a light scent trail. I suggest wearing this during the spring/summer seasons and during the day, as the scent can be a bit fleeting. Overall, I highly recommend this perfume but don’t pay full price for it (it’s not worth it), try get it from a discounter if you can.

CologneCoogar

I have a few Serge Lutens and like them all. I find this one much fruiter than floral. It serves up a nice big whoosh of freshly sliced fruits at first spritz. I get benzyl acetate and allyl cyclohexyl propionate, but not over-done, just giving it some body. I prefer the dry down as this gets a bit more complex, with some mild spice and maybe a bit of undergrowth/green. I'd recommend this to a younger woman, although I've smelt it on a 30 something man, and it worked well. But that's the magic of perfume...

Sabretoothkitten

Cool! I smell mostly the citrus candy but my husband says " taffy wrapper". I'm a good way. Those looking for that vinyl or baby doll note but don't like Shalimar...try this.

oana.ignat

Very elegant and fresh and floral. I use it for work at the office as its not overpowering but subtle enough to be remarkable. Good projection, long lasting. Yes, like ALL Serge Lutens perfumes this is a good value for money purchase. Highly recommended.

Rgordin

Sweet sucking candy still partially wrapped in plastic. Turns to a clean but pleasant deodorant scent within 30 min. Worth the heft price tag? Not for me.

delightme5

It has a slightly synthetic sweet, and yes transparently cellophane feel.
Its clear initially. I dont understand the Nuit. I dont sense flowers, perhaps a flat white one maybe suffocated by cellophane - in the final phase.

Its still nice albeit, not long lasting for me and seems to sit flat.
Seems perhaps cheaply constructed - is this all just a name ? Im also sensing other dupes for this, one being Boss scent for her normal or intense , possible same peachy shampoo clean vibe.
NDC does settle into this soapy shower gel which is not necessarily bad.

If this soapy vibration projects nicely for you, you could enjoy yourself nicely with the right person, as it doesnt smell of "Ive doused myself with perfume",
it smells, bottom line , sexy soap clean....get it ?

Is it worth the price tag ?.. only you decide that.

Ps: This review is for the black labelled bottle.

Suitable quality from jasmine scent and white flowers note in a repetitive & non-innovative style..

Br'eauDeCologne

A short-lived, delightful fruity floral that smells like what my 20-something niece is wearing these days. Another mainstream-skewed release from this house (not a bad thing). There are flashes of complexity here that let you know this is not a typical designer fragrance.

That said, I'd recommend a try before this buy. Novel name and quality aside: this juice may come across as too common-smelling overall to some noses to be worth the cost.

IngaMM

I was tip-toeing round this all summer last year until I finally bought it, sadly only to find that this is the first perfume to which my skin reacts weather sensitive: It doesn’t like it in autumn, doesn’t like it in winter and it doesn’t like it in spring either. NdC just doesn’t smell anything like it should (and did) on me - what a disappointment. After one loud cry “What’s that smell!” from one of my coworkers one day I put it down for good. In my mind I had already finished with NdC and moved on when I decided to give it one last try during the heatwave this July. WELL, HELLO GORGEOUS! THERE YOU ARE!
OK, summers like this are rare, very rare in the UK, meaning the bottle I have will last me a lifetime.
On the other hand, knowing that I have this perfume waiting for me on beautiful summer days does put a smile on my face. :-)

Nuit de Cellophane stands out from the Serge Lutens line, as it's a true fruity floral. No warm spicy notes, nothing really weird, it smells more like a designer fragrance. But that doesn't mean it's bad or generic, I think it's a good take on the fruity floral genre.
The main notes to me are lily and jasmine with a mix of sweet orange fruits like peaches and mandarines, must be the osmanthus that makes it smell like peach or apricot. I think the name is quite fitting, it does smell like the fruit and flower bouquet was just unwrapped from cellophane foil. There is something plasticy in it. Also it's very clean, a fresh-out-the-shower scent.
Yes, it's kind of a shampoo fragrance, but it has some mystery to it. A peppery note from the lily, a creamy note in the drydown... Safe and easy to wear (except for those who get a headache from lilies), but not too boring.

I personally like the fruity, plasticy opening a lot, but in the drydown the fragrance is too cold and soapy for me, it even gets a little sharp on my skin, which it doesn't do on the blotter.

Molly Smith

I am undecided about this one. I smelled it several times on a blotter before testing it on skin, and it seems like two different fragrances! On a blotter, I smelt a lot of fruit and citrus with a hint of white flowers, yummy. On my skin, however, the opening was quite unpleasant. I cannot even describe the notes, it was just something sharp, as if a pot with a mixture of all the notes has been splashed onto my wrist. Luckily it was gone in ten minutes. In the next two hours I smelt a lot of chemical white flowers, air freshener type. I almost wanted to wash it off, but luckily I waited - and 2.5 hours later I suddenly felt a breeze of fresh dewy jasmine - and the sour jummy fruits were back! The fruity notes disappeared again an hour later, and now I can only smell tender dewy jasmine (there might be other notes in there, but my nose is not good enough to distinguish them). I keep smelling my wrist, but overall I think jasmine is just not my style. I love the drydown, but the first two hours were rather trying on me.
The lasting power is quite good: 6 hours and still going strong (from one spray on the wrist). The sillage is good as well, as I can smell it without bringing my hand to my nose even now.

Taxidermy

Beautiful, crisp opening ruined by a shampoo-like dry down. Not much to add here. I had a sample 7 years ago, I liked it and it has been on my wish list since then, but I always find something more compelling to buy. Lately I tried it again and I was instantly reminded why I loved it in the first place. But I'm reading all these reviews and I have to agree with you, that it's not that special after all. The shampoo-ey part bothers me a lot. I love white florals but I prefer them sharp. I can't remember how many times I said to myself that I'm gonna buy this next time, but I always end up with something else. I guess it will stay on my wish list forever.

SuzanneS

NdC is a cute kawaii harujuku japanese girl.
If you are new to Lutens, this is a great entry to try as its familliar, quirky, offbeat and easy to wear compared to his other florals found in a nightmare, or seduce you to your doom into a dungeon.

NdC is a slightly plastic fruity osmanthus and lilly floral. Its squeeky clean, just shampooed your hair and its still wet..and thats a good thing. Sillage is big and trailing. Its longlasting. This isnt a deep self examining scent but closest your going to get in the Lutens cannon of a carefree scent. Its great for a hit of sunshine in the spring or summer.

LuluSaintly

Lovely fragrance, daft name. It does indeed smell like a cellophane-wrapped bouquet of flowers, very fresh, very green, very glittering. Lovely for summer days - this isn't an evening or night scent, it's very matinal, clean-smelling and fresh - the sort of things I'd wear to choir. Not at all typical of the Serge Lutens line.

cutetrang

Loved the opening, sillage and longevity. However, after an hour, the fresh floral and clean scent turns into a more deodorant scent... I used to wear deodorant which resembles this perfume until I switched to a non scented one. It is nice but not FB worthy. Reminds me too much of cheap deodorant. Lovely opening though! very clean scent and perfect for summer or the office.

Mrs. Do Son

This smells like a mid end designer floral. I would put it in league with Calvin Klein Beauty: nice and pleasant but nothing challenging, interesting, or eyebrow raising. It is most definitely not a "nuit" perfume. As several people have mentioned it has a nice shampoo scent. Honestly Serge Lutens produces such amazing perfumes that this mediocre floral seems out of place.

I mean, a verbal analogy to this perfume is the phrase "oh, ok". Positive, friendly, commonplace, mundane.

If I had this in my collection it most certainly would be ignored. I wouldn't dislike it enough to swap it but I would never reach for it either. Overall 5/10

bronstein

This one starts interesting and slowly develops into something completely different... Right now I get the pleasant smell of women's makeup, it has nothing to do with flowers nor cellophane. I love the femineity that comes with the scent... Perhaps an alternative for those who consider a powdery scent too trite?

Arlene-Beatrix

Very nice, light, fruity floral scent. It has this specific 'Serge Lutens opening' but later it is surely pleasant. Good choice for spring, summer and fall.

Maria311

I know the niche perfume community tends to frown on pretty in favor of interesting but damn it, interesting doesn't wear well on me. I want a complex, spicy scent but they don't work.
With that said, I adore NDC! Yes, it's a pretty floral but it's not typical at all. Its well done and I find it has a "curious" quality in that there's something that keeps you sniffing, trying to figure out what it is that makes this pretty floral so special. I've been wearing floral all my life but this one stands out. Very well done.

dorothea333

My God People, what shampoo is it that you use???
You dislike the fragrance, because it reminds you of shampoo. Well I WANT that shampoo! :-)

dorothea333

I enjoy this fragrance immensely - it reminds me quite a bit of Michael Kors Very Hollywood Sparkling.

It is just so completely pleasant, and not difficult to enjoy like some niche fragrances can be.
A lot of niche perfumes speaks to your mind, to knowledge of perfume history and perfume making, and they can be an acquired taste.

This one is not difficult at all, it speaks directly to your senses.
It is bold, bright and warm, white floral, sweet, and wonderful. Do give it a chance, it has the potential to make you happy :-)

Bigsly

Come on people! Doesn't everyone enjoy the smell of cellophane?

medea_svenspoa

It reminds me the scent of a conditioner for hair, strong, fruity, and creamy, a really good and pleasant conditioner, but still, is a Serge Lutens and it doesn't worth the price!

Cassiano

Nuit de Cellophane was released in 2009 and its name means, in English, "Night of Cellophane". Is another one of the few fragrances of the House that were created just for women. However, once again, this is a perfectly sharable perfume.

Serge Lutens defines its concept saying: "When beneath its cellophane, Haute Couture was but yet an idea…From the tight clusters of its petals bursts the scent of jasmine laced with mandarin orange".

Nuit de Cellophane has in its composition green notes, Mandarin orange zest, mandarin essential oil, jasmine Sambac, Osmanthus, carnation, lilies, musks, sandalwood, almonds, and honey.

On the skin, it results in a clean floral with a daytime aspect. At first, it looks like a high-quality shampoo, like those that perfume the long and well-treated hair of the models in the TV commercials. There is a very nice cleaning aspect. As it develops, its fragrance becomes floral-fruity, with a pleasant aroma of apricots and jasmine. For those who don't know, the osmanthus flower results in this nuance of apricots. Finally, in a simple and fast evolution, Nuit de Cellophane shows itself as a white floral bouquet, which is light and elegant at the same time. Don't expect a carnal bouquet with the scent of tuberoses and jasmine, for instance.

The impression I have is that Serge tried to bottle the smell of well-prepared bouquets wrapped by the transparent cellophane, which protects the flowers and retains their fragrances. The lasting is wonderful, even for a light fragrance. Remembering that light doesn't mean soft, right?

My only problem is with the name since I do not interpret this scent like a nocturnal perfume. Maybe Jour de Cellophane would be the most appropriate choice, in my opinion.

Calvini

I was hoping to smell osmanthus, but got a generic sweet foal bouquet instead.. Pleasant none the less

Cauda Pavonis

Light, flowery; aldehyde-y. Gave me a terrible headache! Which makes me sad because I enjoyed the scent. I just absolutely cannot wear this.

Mellyhelly

Another SL I cannot love as I wish.
I love osmanthus flowers while on the plant. It must be a difficult job to reproduce in a perfume.
I can smell osmanthus here or something similar, but it gives me no emotion like the real thing. A soulless osmanthus, nice, feminine, sweet, springy (but it's an evergreen) yet not mesmerising like the true flower.
On top of this it was mixed with mandarine and fruits. I get the shampoo reference.

hedwiginberlin

The list of notes sounds amazing and I wanted to love this. But to me it smells like shampoo.

HalfBaked

A trip to the florist. Bunches of cheap flowers in fresh buckets. Although the flowers are cheap and commonplace, the scent is no less worthy than other more expensive blooms. Bright carnations, crysanthemums, lilies ready to cheer up someone's day.

The florist looks up and a warm smile is on her face; she wants you to have a happy sunny day. She's peeling a juicy sweet mandarin orange. Then she winks at you...

Intrigued, you walk to the back of the shop. It is greener and warmer here, and there is a door at the back of the shop that you hadn't noticed at first. It leads out to a secret sunny courtyard. Osmanthus flowers are blooming, jasmine is climbing the walls and bees are buzzing...

thesheppardess

Not for me.
Strange how things go as I really, really liked it on the blotter strip. Sniffing straight from the little tester - also lovely. Once it hit my skin some sort of fruity, soapy cocktail happens, and not in a good way.
It smells familiar, I can't quite get what, maybe the shampoo I just finished? Won't be purchasing that brand again due to its fragrance.

Albee

The nice bottle is what makes me purchase this, but I never try it before I purchase.
Not a fan of it because of the strong jasmine scent.
Very Long lasting. It last on my skin for 4-6 hours.

aromatique

I only added this to my fragrance wardrobe recently. I'd heard great things about Serge Lutens and was curious to try at least one. There are a number I like, but this one stands out to me in a weird way.

It's unusual because it doesn't smell like anything else I've tried. I think that might be because the osmanthus balances out the floral and fruity notes...I don't get a hit of any one thing, just a pleasant scent. It smells 'bright' but warm at the same time.

Moderately long lasting, and seems to work on me summer and winter. In fact, it's the only scent I own that isn't really heavy that I use in the colder months.

Works day and night on me.

Serge Lutens fragrances are definitely worth trying; I'd say there's probably one to suit most people.

Julie Billi

Just received a sample from e bay....Sweet flowers....not bad, but not to die for....Does not last long....

talnyc

i love, love, love this scent. I love the osmanthus. It is a floral, but not strong. The Osmanthus really tames it down. It is sexy, but not heavy at all. Lovely all year round. I think this scent makes an excellent mixer. I use this with Bal D'Afrique and WOW! It takes it to another level. I mix this with La tulip and again, I have another WOW scent. I mix this with Amber oil and again...I get the, "what are you wearing".

The jasmine is there, but the osmanthus balances it out.

Lana148

Truly feminine, mix of white floral & fruits. At the dry-down gets to be more dusty floral but very pleasant. This one is more happy & fun from SL.

Daniela_Beatriz

To me it seems a floral bomb. I didn't think is fresh or subtle at all. Very suitable for nights, and not the hottest ones. Very pleasant, but one might have to tread carefully because it can get overwhelming.

MLK

This is nice and fresh, however every time I spray it on, it just reminds me of hairspray. It's nice but not worth the price. It's not the SL fragrance that I reach for.

keiserkarel

A midsummer night's dream! Delicious sweet aroma of living flowers. So soft and incredibly delicate. This is a simple floral fragrance, but has highly expensive taste.

guillermostf

Nice. No white flowers to my nose. I think white flowers are jasmin, gardenia, to mention some of the more used in perfumery, but this one doesn't smell like white flowers, instead i smell very colorfull flowers, like a big garden or flower store. By the way, not so special, but nice.

Houdini4

Mippymuppett's review below is spot on, although I thought it was curious that Sheldrake is not mentioned as the perfumer here even though I just assumed it was his creation.
It's true though even my favourite musicians/bands have made bad albums from time to time, if you have a such strong body of work it's hard to live up to that.
This is fruity, floral, and pleasantly feminine scent although I was expecting something that smelled like plastic which would've been super brave if not my cup of tea.

Arabian Knight

If you want a cheaper alternative to this overpriced scent, shampoo your hair with Pantene, blow dry it and then shake it back and forth. It smells exactly like freshly shampooed hair....

Baffling :/

danceforjoy

This is truly an exercise in subtlety. Yet it does not smell like anything else. It is peppery carnation, fresh green, osmanthus, a breath of jasmine, a drop of sweet honey, with a bit of lily dust and soft musk to hold together.

It is a quiet, delicate work of art, for the person who wants to keep her (or his) little secret, that they are wearing something special. Not for the person who wants to announce their presence before they have stepped into a room. I think that winter is not the best season; I think this is an ideal early March through end of April scent.

While it does not smell like Daim Blond, you can easily conclude, if you smell them one after the other, that they were developed by the same mind.

PricklyAndHot

Most of all I feel in this fragrance osmanthus and mandarin notes. But not very successful. And the fragrance is not impressive. Unnoticeable enough, comparing with many other fragrances by this brand.

mippymuppett

Hmm...I think that unfortunately Mr. Sheldrake has set his bar so high that when he decides to design a very pretty and lovely scent people will tend to find themselves "underwhelmed". I think it would be unfortunate to dismiss a very wearable and lovely fruity floral just because it isn't unique enough. Is it earth shattering??? No. Is this going to blow your mind??? No.

With all of that said, NdC is very pretty right out of the bottle. The osmanthus and jasmine sparkle and are very beautifully blended. There is a sweetness to the scent without smelling like candy. On me this sat very close to the skin and I wish it projected a bit more. Still very lovely!!!!

christianne1

A beautiful fragrance with a terrible name. This is a very "safe" floral. Flowers safely wrapped in cellophane. I don't care for a lot of mixed white florals as they can be overpowering to my nose (and can even make me sneeze) but this is beautifully done. I happen to love osmanthus, mandarine and musk...so this makes it an easy winner for me. The jasmine doesn't overpower as it often does in a lot of fragrances. Neither does the tuberose. This is a well blended softened floral. There is nothing especially thrilling about it but sometimes you just aren't aren't looking for a thrill in a fragrance. You simply just want something pretty. And with Nuit de Cellophane that is exactly what you get. A safe, pretty floral. I do not get the "night" part in the name though...this smells like a fresh daytime floral to me.

Nuit de Cellphone is probably not anything I would ever actually purchase as it smells too "mixed floral" for me personally...but I have sampled it several times and enjoyed it and can see where fans of white florals would be pleased with this. I just received a number of samples from Serge Lutens yesterday and decided to wear this one today because I couldn't quite remember what it smells like...and was reminded of what a lovely, simple, non-offensive fragrance it is. I can see where it may not make enough of a statement for some..but if you are simply looking for a nice, feminine floral, this is an excellent choice.

Shorokh

Well, I`m surprised to see so many disappointed people out here. Yes, this perfume doesn`t have the amber note, so what.
Recently I`ve realized that I wanted a white floral, light but long-lasting, sweet but not too much, pleasant but not common. I searched around many a niche perfumes corners, and found nothing to buy. Sure it was out of question to buy a mass market scent.
I came to the Lutens corner because I like to stay there, every time I discover something new to me: either a note, or a whole composition. All my Lutens were bought after a second or a third or even a fourth try, so I find it normal to come back again and to try again.
This time I tried the Nuit de Cellophane... OMG, how could I live without this fantastically well done Osmantus scent??? I`m an Osmantus lover, but never I heard this note so pronounced, so clean, tender, innocent but not simple, simple but far from being primitive... it`s hard to describe, it`s a little sweet, a little acid, you keep sniffing it, trying desperately to disclosure the secret: what is this evasive beauty... It smells like a prepubertal girl must smell... Innocent and vicious in the same time.
I love it. I`m looking forward to being delivered this from France! Lutens, I love you.

Floreat

I love this fragrance. It's juicy fruits supported by heady white florals makes it truly swoon-worthy. The opening is brief and to die for, albeit a bit too short lived in my opinion. It dries down to a soft and clean soapy smell. Even though it doesn't project as much as I would like, I still adore it. I'll just re-apply as needed - if for no other reason than that completely brilliant opening!

genny17

Most Lutens scents I have tried dont work on me, they tend to stink to be honest, Bas de Soie smelled like dirty socks to me, others just didnt work...Nuits de Cellophane finally is a Lutens I find real nice, I have to admit the top notes are full of carnation, so at first I thought it smelled vintage, but the scent gets lighter, fresher and nicely floral in the base, and it smells great, like underated floral notes, demure, not sharp, just nicely mixed with fruits and musks, all in nuances, apricot, osmanthus blending in creating some sweetness, some tartness, nothing full bloom, hints and demi teintes, lovely..I like it!!

rubyhexagon

I have just purchased this after prying myself away from the gorgeous, warm gourmand scents also offered by Lutens. This is to celebrate the cold, reluctant spring arriving here in the UK. A soft, shy scent in the dry down that definitely deserves to be dabbed than sprayed. I think I have found a feminine, complex floral that suits me at last. A perfect antidote to a winter of Gaultier 2, Etro Heliotrope and Robert Piguet Visa.

missk

As an avid perfume collector, having spent thousands on building a decent wardrobe, you would think that my boyfriend would enjoy at least one of them on me. The only scent that drives him wild is the scent of my hair after using TRESemme's Moisture Rich Shampoo, for less than $10 a bottle. For the last six months I've searched high and low for a perfume that smelt similar to my shampoo. I have finally found it in the form of Nuit de Cellophane by Serge Lutens.

Whenever I smell this fragrance, I am in the shower, with my long hair lathered in shampoo. It's a crisp fruity smell, with clean osmanthus, jasmine and almond oil to nourish the hair.

It reminds me a lot of the Salvatore Ferragamo Incanto line. Nuit de Cellophane doesn't smell niche or unique to me at all. It's not something that I would normally like, however I'm giving it a chance because I know that my boyfriend adores it. Ah, the things we do for love!

Unfortunately I'm more of a fan of Serge Lutens' heavier, spicier offerings. As much as I hate to say it, Nuit de Cellophane is a loud, sometimes offensive fruity floral to my nose, with a dominant, slightly watery osmanthus note. The composition is also fairly linear, which shocked me a little. I feel that Nuit de Cellophane is trying too hard to be mainstream.

Like most Serge Lutens, Nuit de Cellophane lasts on the skin and has strong projection. I would recommend this fragrance to anyone that enjoys clean, sparkling fruity florals, especially those that love the scent of freshly washed hair. Nuit de Cellophane is best suited to Spring and Summer.

tokamak110

The beginning is a bit too powdery, but the drydown, oh the drydown...it delights me, i can't stop sniffing it, very nice scent!

DresdenDoll

Lovely osmanthus scent. Starts out delicate, with a hint of fruits and the osmanthus slowly takes over, giving this scent a buttery feeling. For a little while once I begin to smell the jasmine this smells like the shadow of A La Nuit.
This is very gentle. It's also quite a pretty scent and if you like osmanthus, this is a must try. However I was rather underwhelmed. Pleasant - yes. Pretty - yes. However these are the strongest feelings I can muster up about it. I'd be pleased with it as a gift, but wouldn't consider a bottle myself.

Zazou

The first whiff left me enchanted... honeysuckle and white blossom. For a few minutes this scent resembled strongly the alas vanished vintage Chloé by Lagerfeld. To my disappointment NdC then developed into something soapy and completely uninteresting, reminding me faintly of "air freshener" (the stinky kind). Very boring, indeed.

chickenpotpie

Starts out pretty strong but dries down to very sheer and light layers. The beginning isn't my favorite because its quite a blast of alcohol.

Not what I consider to be a typical super sweet fruity floral you get these days, but its one that has been done before. Thankfully its very well done as fitting of this house. But, for those looking for adventure, you won't find it here.

Very pretty and well made, scent does not project loudly (well its sheer after all) and longevity is about 5-6 hours.

Elisabeth M.

White flowers don't fit with my skin chemistry (especially not Jasmine) and I am not very into floral perfumes but this is a very alluring and outstanding perfume done by Serge Lutens. It lacks the spice note that nearly all his creations have but therefore the cellophane note is very well worked out in this one. To me this is the perfect fragrance for special moods when my taste says: I want diversity and something different from what I generally love.

A nicely done white floral but that's what it is--a nicely done white floral, nothing unusual and not one that will displace a classic. I presume the "cellophane" in the name (this is the same word in English in French) refers to the sheer layers rather than anything synthetic. It does have a nice layered effect with the jasmine and osmanthus. My reaction to this is meh--SL is far more interesting when he tries outrageous or odd.

Projection: decent 1-2 ft
Duration: good, several hours
Fabulosity: white bread and butter
Value to price ratio: meh
4/10

A nice, generic-ish floral. This falls into my "shampoo floral" category.

I had a very interesting testing experience of Serge Lutens NUIT DE CELLOPHANE because one of my two tester vials apparently was not properly sealed, so nearly all of the liquid had evaporated. What remained was a very thick, perfume oil-like elixir. I applied it to my skin in the manner of parfum, and discovered a beautiful osmanthus-jasmine scent with a slightly soapy drydown.

Next, I added water to the empty "parfum" vial, covered the top with my finger, shook it up and poured the contents all over me. It smelled really beautiful: a resinous, clear jasmine vaguely reminiscent of my memory of Calvin Klein BEAUTY, though I'll have to try that perfume again to be sure.

Finally, I applied the edp liquid from my properly sealed vial and discovered at last the cellophane aspect of this composition. The jasmine now clearly dominated over the osmanthus and even seemed ever so slightly indolic.

I enjoyed this creation in every concentration I tried! If I acquire a bottle, I may siphon some off and let the solvents evaporate to produce a small volume of the "parfum" in my unsealed vial.

UPDATE:

I received a fresh sample of NUIT DE CELLOPHANE with a recent order and discovered that it really is fundamentally a shampoo floral, just as other reviewers have observed. I am reminded, in particular, very much of Bond no 9 CHELSEA FLOWERS. I'm not saying that Chris & Serge copied anyone but there does seem to be a shampoo floral movement underway.

I was considering the possibility of acquiring a bottle of this perfume, but now I am thinking that if the day arrives when I succumb to the temptation to add something from this twenty-first-century fragrance group to my collection, I'll probably opt for one of the big Bond no 9 bottles instead (it was not all that difficult to drain my CHELSEA FLOWERS purse spray)...
For now, I'll continue to wash my hair.

I can smell lots of jasmine, pleasant but not like the other Serge Lutens fragrances. This to me smells more common, floral like many others, nice but not special. Good if you love Yasmin!

rose_selavie

It may smell synthetic, it may even smell cheap, but it`s GORGEOUS! Fresh opening of sheer and immaculate white flowers with a subtle trace of musk in the dry down.
It`s like a Photoshoped cover of a beauty magazine: you know it is not real, but you admire it anyway. Lutens has created the perfect synthetic bouquet, and the result is great! For all who love clean smelling perfumes, this is a must try.

mseidoom

I used to like this very much but I can't take the jasmine now. Before, it was really fruity and floral without the jasmine standing out so much.

When I read about this one, I felt the need to buy it, but am now cured after trying it on and wearing it for a few hours. It's a fairly straightforward white floral, with a slightly harsh note that I don't really like, maybe this is the pretend cellophane aspect. Comes into the category of "would wear it if given a free or at least very cheap bottle, but wouldn't actually spend my own money".

HappyShopper123

A full, brash, sharp floral fragrance. This is almost identical to Michael Kors' Very Hollywood. There are cheaper perfumes that smell similar to this.

shoreshells

I just tested this fragrance and it's a very pretty floral. At first I thought it had freesia in it; I love freesia, but it doesn't. I must be a mixture of citrus and jasmine. I think it's a great soft floral!

This was my first whiff of any SL scent. *Thanks Weegee, for the sample!* I was intruiged by the name, more than the notes: Night of Cellophane (plastic), and actually wore it for the first time to ring in 2011 at Midnight! I expected something synthetic and sheer with some dark shadowy feeling, but this is anything but...

This opens sweetly but brightly, like cellophane; but is nowhere near synthetic or "plasticy". As it evolves, the heady rich osmanthus and the light but sexy jasmine come strolling through without a care in the world! I guess considering how rich these flowers actually are; here they are sort of sheer, but they are very, very well-blended with the bright and refreshing mandarin orange keeping it sweet, but light and playful. No heartnotes or base is listed; but there just have to be more in this, than only these three. It is rather linear after the flowers arrive, but I detect something lightly musky and somewhat earthy here...it did not last all that long, but while it did: it is enticing and absolutely wonderful! Very sultry, she is and also quite elegant. Despite the name, I think it would be a good scent for the spring or even early to mid-autumn. It is not just an evening scent either, would set a very nice tone for a dinner out in a nice dress. Perhaps, with some light patchouli or a woody scent layered with it: more masculine, something nice for a guy. Just by itself, though; it is very feminine. Even dreamy...

Sillage: average
Longevity: fair
Overall: 3.25/5

I never know what to make of SL perfumes! They are niche and luxe, without a doubt. For those prices though, I expect a little more sillage and lifespan! Part of me thinks: "He is only in it for the money!". Then (usually after sniffing one) I think: "Man, he IS good!". I am dying to try Muscs de Kublai Khan, and think if any of them is worth a FB purchase; it will be THAT one!! I have a small spray of 5 O'Clock Eau Gingembre, and a large sample of Mandarin Mandarine already, besides this one; but think I will reserve any further judgement on this House until I sniff a few more of its scents....

Sa Majeste la Rose

I think it is a nice citrussy fragrance with a little hint of white flowers. But... It is not a Lutens fragrance!

Cereza

I can't decide. It's bubble gum sweet and syntetich at the opening, but I somehow enjoy it enough to keep waiting for something better to happen. I'm very trying to like this, actually, as I've been trying to find Luten's that would work on me.
I can feel loads of mandarine and osmanthus, but no jasmin....weird. The osmanthus is somehow very syrupy and a bit heady.

I think i'll pass. Was expecting more.

I finally figured out what this smells like. Juicy Couture. Heavy, sticky flowers, giving me a headache. Jasmine is too strong, citruses are non exsisting. I feel suffocated by the strong flowery scent. No spring in it, though. The flowers are more like a greenhouse production - very overbearing

First thoughts:
Do I just have bad taste? This is awful! Opening is not so much overly sweet-Nuit de Cellophane is not a heavy fragrance...but there is a harsh sort of synthetic overtone-jarring!

The opening notes soften slowly but surely. Within 15 minutes the composition passes through the nuances that must be the rotting lower leaves mellbybee mentions, or perhaps the "aqueous" tendency on Mals86...In 15 minutes they don't pass completely-but they weaken, at least.

In a few hours the scent dries down to a beautiful osthmanthus-jasmine fragrance, with osmanthus dominating, making it somewhat airy and fresh-and the musk becomes smooth. Whatever role the citruses had in the beginning wasn't so pleasant, but I think a bit of the zest remains constant, keeping the perfume in line with the name. What a relief that Nuit de Cellophane wouldn't be Nuit de Plastique....

I'm sure I would love this for nightwear if I spray it on a few hours before arriving at my chosen event-but I would be hard-pressed to want to wear this when I dislike the top notes so much.....I can't even vote whether I like or dislike this one...hate the top, quite like the drydown!

Nuit de Cellophane starts really deliciously cute, with fresh fruity candy-like but non-cloying scent and some uplifting citrusy sizzling. Very interesting start, which reminds me of orange flavored jelly.

Soon comes the floral, even though the notes don't include rose, I smelt something like luxary rose essential oil soap with jasmine hint. So far it's a well blended floral scent. Every now and then, it gives off some orange/Fanta/softdrink-like bubbly vibe.

The dry down goes a little bit muskier/softer but still with the sweet nectar essence (osmathus + jasmine combo?).

I find the Nuit de Cellophane is like a much luxary and less synthetic version of Happy Spirit by Chopard. If you like Happy Spirit, don't miss out Nuit de Cellophane.

sfonativeboy

I was so prepared to dislike this fragrance...

however ....it's very "SPRING"

first words that came to mind ..
CHANEL CRISTALLE

CRISP CLEAN SPRING-CUT FLOWERS!!!
with a hint of Swiss Alpine Air...
go figure

Imagine someone handed you a bouquet of lovely white flowers and one small orange and said "I hope you have a wonderful day." This is what this fragrance is like for me. It has surprising longevity too, despite how light and delicate it is. Periodically throughout the day I will get just the hint of it and then my day is wonderful. Truly one of my favs.

EternalSunshine7

Of course...jasmine again. BUT...this time I don't find it wreaking havoc in my nose. The orange balances the jasmine nicely. It's a pretty day-time in the spring perfume. Sweet, but not sugar sweet like many perfumes of today. Thanks to the juicy orange, I find it quite enjoyable.

zoka

I also like this fragrance very much... maybe it is labeled 'for women' here but I enjoy it on my skin. Opening comes with fruits, citruses but after top notes it lasts long time on my skin and gives nice floral aura. All floral fragrances should be applied very careful because if you overdose they might be too strong.

Mals86

A remarkably wearable Lutens for a change! I enjoyed the faintly-aqueous beginning, with its veil of light citrus and apricot. It segues into a lovely presentation of osmanthus, with its apricot-milk-suede notes, along with some other light florals, and then subsides into a pale, peachy musk that lasts for a pleasantly long time.

I have to admit that I don't see much relationship between the name and the fragrance. Although the scent is quite light enough to be described as a wrapping or veil, it's not the shiny, transparent plasticky glitter of cellophane. "Nuit" makes no sense to me, either: this fragrance seems very much preferable for daytime use as opposed to a night scent, in my opinion. But never mind that, plenty of glorious fragrances have idiotic names. And this one is, indeed, very lovely - one of the few Lutens fragrances that I consider to be easily worn, and not simply for the bravest among us.

mellybee

This fragrance is exactly that what you can smell when you enter the florist's shop.
Freshly cutted flowers soaking in water, the lower leaves of the flowers are a bit rotting. The flowers give off a strong sweet scent but then the shop assistant takes them out of the water and the scent's getting pale as she wraps cellophane around the bouquet.

The beginning is way too syrupy but once the scent settles down, one can enjoy the subtle smell of flowers blended with white musk.

Totally unexpected from Lutens, indeed.
