Girl by Pharrell Williams is a Woody fragrance for women and men. Girl was launched in 2014. Girl was created by Christian Astuguevieille and Antoine Lie. Top notes are White Pepper, Lavender and Neroli; middle notes are Violet, Iris and Styrax; base notes are Vetiver, Cedar, Sandalwood and Patchouli.

“There should be no boundaries – I learnt that from Comme des Garçons” - stated Pharrell Williams on the occasion of presenting his first unisex fragrance named Girl. When he was young, he used Ralph Laurent’s Polo for which he says it was "really cool" at that time. Later he used Dior’s Fahrenheit because it was so different from other fragrance at that time, and after it, during 15 years he did not wear any perfumes at all – he stated for WWD.

The meeting that took place 4 or 5 years ago in Basel (at Art Basel) with Sarah Andelman, founder and creative director of Parisian Colette made him think differently about fragrances. During greetings and embrace he smelled the perfume she was wearing and asked her what that scent was, and she answered it was Wonderwood by CDG. From that moment on, Pharrell has been, as he says himself, in love with Comme des Garcons!

He wanted to collaborate with Comme des Garcons and he envisaged a concept which was based on woodsy notes. Top notes of fragrance Girl includes neroli, lavender and white pepper, followed by iris, styrax and violet, while the base closes with a woody union of patchouli, vetiver, sandalwood and cedar. Composition of the perfume is signed by creative director of Comme Des Garcons, Christian Astuguevieille and perfumer Antoine Lie of Tasakago. The house of Comme des Garcons Parfum is in charge of production and distribution.

Fragrance Girl will hit the shelves starting from September 1st at Dover Street Market London, and will arrive in the same stores in New York and Tokio later on. Also, before the exclusive partnership, fragrance Girl will be available at Sephora in USA, Canada and France. The fragrance arrives as 100ml EDP and 10ml EDP. Flacon design is signed by House + Holme.

A long-lasting masterpiece.

XaneusValentine

I like it. Reminds me of: the smell of rain + violets + woodsy + laundry in a subtle way

an_baum

i don't know how, because few to none of the notes are the same, but this is like if betsey johnson perfume got sprayed down with a dirty cobwebbed hose and then went through a car wash of cheap violet shampoo. i wouldn't want to smell this on anyone, a true shameful waste & disgrace of materials that ultimately come from this earth

chrissychrispants

I initially bought this because the price was excellent and I thought the bottle was art. But I actually really like this!

Stone pebble, cool violet florals, light woods and a touch of herbal lavender

uwuwood

This is going to sound odd, but this really smells like how it feels to spot a teeny tiny rat in your apartment. There's the initial wave of shock and disgust, followed immediately by recognition and sympathetic affection- it's just a little guy, fuzzy and not much different from the hamster you kept as a kid, to be killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time; for the crime of being small. You then recall the gruesome way Nibbles died, how he crawled behind the radiator to rot, how the smell filled your childhood home. The revulsion returns with a vengeance, as your toes curl and you start to salivate. Like his songs, Pharrell Williams' fragrance invokes in me a nostalgic dread, a sick and confused yearning for worse times.

Tshahb

Wondeful perfume, embarrassing affiliation to a lame celebrity who wears a giant, glans-shaped hat.

Who cares though, I'm still wearing it!

It's violety and smooth with a sort of hot chocolate undercurrent (patchouli?), but not at all sweet.

Very strong too, even after showering.

It's very similar to Fahrenheit, but stands up on its own.

iris

In my search for a replacement of the original Narciso Rodriguez for Him, I ended up with Girl, a misnamed fragrance that at first glance possesses the same somber melancholic vibe.
The more I wear it though, the more I start to sense how it's actually juicier, more friendly, and it has some more colors in it, different than grey. There's a bit of sunshine in the opening notes of lavender and neroli, and there's some classical niche vibe in the woody patchouli base and the creamy pepper notes in the beginning. In fact, the more I get to know it, the more I start to see violet as an obstacle. Anyway, Girl is too short-lived, and I also find it too unfocused - as if some AI compiled a random set of nice notes.
This ambiguity intensifies in the context of Girl being technically a "celebrity fragrance", created shortly after the viral music hit "Happy". I can only imagine how one-dimesional the expectations for a Pharrell Williams fragrance were back then.

jasminette

This shouldn't be confusing or challenging to me but for some reason @Holli 's review rings true for me. Something in the early opening gives it a perfumed burp/stomach acid impression. I don't know why. It smells pretty pleasant but unremarkable after that: lavender, pepper, neroli, and a slightly stale vanillic amber note come through at once. To my memory, it smells like Jannat by Memo and Dior Fahrenheit sprayed into a small space at the same time.

sir reeksalot

this stuff is quality for celebrity fragrance and i was really surprised.i get a watery concrete violet scent that is different and is a ? but not a yuck.like when you're waiting for a scent to go really bad after the opening but never does.it just remains a hmmm?hmmm?i'm glad i got it and especially since not many people want it.

franchizzy

Right off the bat I get the violet, Fahrenheit/NR reference. I do pick up some Black Afgano too. Excellent/modern fragrance artistic yet crowd pleasing underrated and niche based. Pharrell and Cdg really put something beautiful out there. The price for this is insane based on what you’re getting.

LloydP

Very sweet synthetic unisex fragrance, almost has like a milky sweet scent to it. It’s definitely more on the feminine side bought it for 25 eur at tk-maxx. It’s a unique fragrance with a nice lavender note throughout. Nothing mind blowing, just nice and unique :)

Betsywoolbright

I'm really interested in trying this one but my skin amplifies vetiver (not my favorite note, anyway) and I'm afraid it would all just turn to vetiver on me. I'm 36f. 75% of my perfumes lean unisex, and I'm not sure if it would lean too masculine on me or not.

arpoelogy

This is perhaps a strange reference but this perfume smells exactly like many of the Asian supermarkets in my area and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

swedishmilk15

Girl smells a LOT like my vintage Worth Je Reviens. I like this very much. It definitely has a gamine quality. For rainy days.

Edit: Now that I own and have tested both, I can confirm this is VERY similar to Dior Farenheit. (I still think Je Reviens is similar but this is much closer to the Dior.) Violet and vetiver are the predominating notes. I actually think this smells higher-quality than the current formulation of Farenheit EdT (which performs like an aftershave or eau de cologne.) Projection is enormous and longevity is above average. One spray is generally enough, and I'm an oversprayer.

Farideali24

Not a fan of the opening, but after few hours the dry down is very nice

Professor Value

My wife gave this Girl to me saying it leans too boy for her. I agree, and it's a nice scent, with good performance.

Sniff away

This is a lovely fragrance I don't understand all the hate . I don't get much pepper. Neroli is slight in the opening it's mostly lavender and iris . Then the drydown it's a little violet and sandalwood that sweetenes the fragrance, there's some patchouli which adds an earthy smell , Longevity is around 5 hour's with Moderate projection . It's very cheap just now , I like the bottle design. niche quality.

Holli

All the smells of a group of people at once. Sweat, saliva, cheap perfume, running water, stale meat, crystal light, air conditioner floaties, a gurgly cough, motel lobby, unlit cigarettes, empty clothes hamper and window cleaner sprayed in a hot car. Synthetic and repugnant. Also somehow oppressive. Bad vibes.

Katora#1

I don't know what's wrong with me, but Girl reminds me of Khaliji by Al Rehab (oil version). There's something sweaty and soapy about it. I don't know if this is going to change further down the line, my description is based on the first 30 minutes of wearing the fragrance. I may post an update, if it becomes more wearable with time.

Update:
It is still sweaty and soapy and is reminiscent of a generic masculine fragrance for teenage boys that you can find at a drugstore. No wonder this crashed and burned at release, given the original price tag. The fact that this celebrity fragrance was a CDG collaboration also is very misleading, as it implies that it could have been anything else but the thing it it turned out to be.

UncleThor

So I blind bought this perfume based on the post-mortem hype this one has recieved, as I was looking for a unique addition to my office-rotation. The notes seemed office-friendly, and the reviews seemed promising, so I managed to cop one of the last in stock from a discounter. For $30 for a 100ml this felt like robbery. Me being the robber.

A distinguished, smooth and unique violet and iris composition, which fit perfectly as a daily driver, as it's very office-friendly. It has some classical elements to it, while still being a completely modern scent. It has this comforting effect with the iris and violet leaf, while at the same time the woods and pepper give it some character. This lasts an entire day at work and then some. I cannot express how glad I am that I pulled the trigger on this one. It's a strong like bordering on love for me.

CarbuneInmiresmatul

This is excellent! It's bitter, energizing, very energizing actually. So the opening is not so great to my tastes, it's a bit sweet but then it gets to like an almond apple kind of thing, then the vetiver and wood and some nice bitter flowers come in, and omg its sooo good. I think it's predominantly male as the most of the effect. I feel manly and on standby, energized but not agitated. Full of potential to act but remaining in calm, and precision. Not under the domain of desire. Very cool! Highly recommended.

It projects for about 4-5 hours on my skin, then remains for your own satisfaction for maybe 4 more hours easily.

Astieren

Like a friendlier, more universal Fahrenheit with a touch of comforting baby powder. It’s really good and available at a snip. No brainer.

frederickf_

I’m getting a gorgeous chilled out violet vibe. Pretty unisex. Elegant, sexy, and fun. Love.

*loves_shoes*

I really don’t understand how this is voted masculine leaning…. On my skin and to my nose it’s a soft, powdery, floral. Quite sweet. Maybe the tiniest of woody notes at the base that do get a bit stronger over time. And a very slight freshness. Traditionally feminine leaning for the first 30 minutes at least, then unisex after that as the slight woody notes come out more.
I can’t smell ambroxan properly, so maybe that is the ingredient they’re using for wood?
It’s nice, I like it, but I’m just sad that I seem to be missing something.

LushWaves

Am I crazy? I get little to no violet, at least in the vein of Narciso Rodriquez For Him or Fahrenheit. I get no pepper, no wood. It's just a beautifully musky, sweet ambroxan scent for me. I love it though, especially at the cost.

orangecloud

It’s a great fragrance with a melancholy vibe, Buy it, love it.

Ford4630

A bottle that will give your children nightmares.

A scent that will give you nightmares.

adamh9201

overwhelmingly peppery and sharp. Just so bad

narag

There is no violet here. It's violet leaf, a very different note, not floral but green. I'm surprised nobody mentioned that, but of course Narciso For Him EDT, a violet leaf bomb, is the first in the similarities list. The drydown resembles Oud Wood that shares vetiver, sandalwood and pepper with this one.

This is a dark, changing, mysterious, not for everybody perfume.

Detman101

@TheLB - Good to see another Depeche Mode fan here! <3
=)

TheLB

Detman 101- just a shout out from one Depeche Mode fan to another.

I somehow bought two bottles of this perfume years ago and forgot I had them. I just went thru my perfume collection and Ughhh now i remember why I boxed these, it’s a terrible weak boring woodsy perfume that even if I did like it, it doesn’t last even half hour on my skin. I tried giving it to hubby and he hates it too. I can understand why this thing didn’t sell well and went into obscurity and it’s not coz of the name or cute bottle. True perfume lovers dont care about that, but we do care about quality, longevity and silage which this perfume has neither. I wouldn’t waste another second spraying this on my skin when I have hundreds of beautiful Niche perfumes that are worth wearing. This smells cheap, made with all aroma chemicals. It’s just awful. I have two bottles to give away if anyone wants one. They are both 99% full. I sprayed it a few times hoping for something. But no. It’s just weak boring crap and so beneath Comme de Garçons talent . I’m sure they must be embarrassed by this celeb perfume that went nowhere quick.

ShoGirl

Vetiver-violet woody delight that smells warm and interesting and like it costs 10 x more than it does. Man I love vetiver and mixing it with purple flowers and a bit of smoke like it's done here is just a very winning idea, not like anything else I have, and I will wear this a lot. I don't love the bottle though: the production feels sort of cheap to me, and it's good that the fragrance doesn't! Recommended for me by a friend - on my own I would never have gone near it! - but I'm so glad she did so.

Amy0711

This is just one of the best perfumes I've tries. I'm usually into unisex perfumes so it works for me really well. The smell is so strong And lasts for a long time even if you washed your clothes. highly recommend it to anyone who's into unisex fragrances. Just one of the best!

FollowTheRedHat

I blind bought this because it was a ridiculously good price. I had read about all the notes and read a lot of reviews and I was aware that it is very hit and miss and love-it-or-hate-it type of fragrance. Because of that I got two family members (one female and one male) to try Girl with me and whoever liked it best would get it. We thought, at least one of us would like it. When it arrived I loved the bottle (as did my female relative, my male relative was not keen and was confused by this being a unisex fragrance called "Girl"). We then each sprayed it. On my male relative it was well balanced, smoky, spicy, floral with a hint of sweetness in the background from the neroli and the lavender. On my female relative it was screeching with smoke and was sharp and had no balance at all. On me it was an absolute disaster, it was like I was reeking from a chemical fire, it was acrid with a chemical, tar-like smoke that was choking and this just overwhelmed all the other notes. It is not the pepper that was the problem (as other people have reported) as I often have pepper in my perfumes with no issue. I suspect it is the styrax and vetiver as I don't have these in my other fragrances. We all let Girl develop for a few hours. On my male relative it just developed and was lovely, it calmed down on my female relative but it still was not pleasant, on me it just became less aggressively offensive but was still horrid. The decision was unanimous, Girl was delightful on my male relative, unpleasant on my female relative and hideous on me. Girl has become a signature fragrance for my male relative and he has bought a few more bottles of it.
If you blind buy this, my suggestion is you have a few candidates to try it. I would hate for one person to buy this and have the same experience as I did. I really like it, just definitely not on me.

raw umber

Like Nirvana Black, I did a review of Girl a few days ago which was immediately downvoted, so I want to just quickly add a few thoughts about this fragrance in the hopes that it could help someone who might love it but be thrown off by the marketing around it, as I was at first. Girl never should have been sold at Sephora. I love Sephora and shop there frequently, but it's not a great venue for every type of scent, and I think Girl would have been better off sticking to Dover St. Market, with the rest of the Comme des Garcons line.

Girl smells like an expensive and refined synthetic woody blend. It's very on-brand for Comme des Garcons and I don't see it as easier or cheaper in feel compared to many of their other offerings. If you enjoy the brand's aesthetic, you will likely experience this as a chic high quality fragrance. I purchased a huge bottle for 20 bucks now that it has been discontinued, and I think it definitely deserves its original $135 price tag.

If you like modern minimalist expensive smelling synthetic woods, definitely try Girl before it's gone. I'm on a sandalwood quest right now and I'm so grateful I took a chance and gave Girl another try. Sometimes if you don't like something at first, it's because the time wasn't right for you and the scent to connect. Future you may fall in love with it when you meet again.

chefan

One of the best bang-for-buck fragrances I currently own. I must be one of the few people who actually likes the fragrance all the way from the opening to the dry down.
I am getting the sense that this fragrance was presenter quite ironically, with its juvenile bottle (designed by KAWS for the collectors out there) and its completely misleading name. I could not image a fragrance that was less “girly” than this one is (if we exclude the house of Aramis).
If you want a niche experience for a cheapie price, I would definitely start with this one. Enjoy this fragrance for what it is, and take every review with a pinch of salt. When coming on here to leave my review I was shocked to see the low score.
I would say buy a sample, but for the price this is currently trending for, I would argue a blind buy might be in order.

robin1234

This is a very unique perfume. Niche quality at really low designer price. The notes you get keep changing with time. My wife was disgusted with the harsh violet and peppery opening and told me to get rid of it immediately, but hours later told me "this" one is so much better than the previous one. She was shocked when i told her it's the same one I was wearing all the while. This perfume gets bad reviews for so many reasons: tacky looking bottle, being a celebrity perfume and also the challenging opening notes. Give it a bit of time and the true beauty of this lovely perfume is stunning. it's smooth, aromatic and woody with niche quality. I strongly urge you not to judge a perfume by it's bottle and give it a try..

pauladeyemo

Can't stand the opening but the dry down is good.

Bubbles1964

Wow. I love this scent. A blast of pepper greets you upon opening, but Girl dissipates quickly into a unisex floral vetiver. The lavender is here but it’s light and not overpowering. The spicy wood notes hold up the base, and I get great performance, a little over 4 hours and it’s still going.

I commented years ago, here on Fragrantica that I liked the bottle, but I assumed the juice was not for me. So glad I got to test Girl because I’m purchasing my next perfume now. Best budget celebrity scent I’ve come across in several years.

enfer

@foreverine I believe the sharpness you're experiencing is the blast of pepper in the opening, that is prominent in both Girl or Toy Boy (whether white pepper or pink pepper). I could see it being sensitive or off-putting with excessive use or when combined with other notes but to me this sharpness, or rather spiciness actually complements both fragrances and makes them both among my favorites. (Not familiar with Al Haramain's Amber Gold yet). I might be wrong but I hope this helps :)

Koaguk

Dry down of this reminds me Bond no9 SOPFH opening . I got both of them and compering side by side need just to wait until for the dry down of Girl to smell as close as it get to Sent of peace. And longevity is brilliant. I'm testing them both on my skin.

foreverine

This is not subtle at all.

This fragrance has a scent that is very sharp. I found this similar sharpness in Al Haramain Amber Oud Gold and Moschino Toy Boy. After trying Al Haramain and Moschino, I thought that it was Amber. But after trying this one, I doubt that it is Amber. Does anyone know what I am talking about? This sharp, alcoholic, plasticky smell?

I washed it off after trying it because I know it will only irritate my husband, who is very sensitive to the smell. The scent stayed even after an intense scrubbing. In the end, I layered it with Joop! Le Bain. I will keep it for the design of the bottle.

gatsby

@haogaga you have a damaged atomiseur perhaps. I had 3 bottles, now I opened the fourth one. It works perfect, like any other expensive bottle. Regarding the fragrance, yes, it is masculine, woody ant violety...so cool and strong. Attracts compliments. I like it very much.

haogaga

Just got my bottle. And this one is definitely giving me Narciso for Him EDT like 50 60% similar. But this one is heavier on the Woody note. Very masculine, with a hint of Violet. Nothing really fem about this one. There is cozy and also classy about this scent. In general, pretty good. I would save this one for cool rainy days. That would be the best scenario for this scent .
The bottle is cute, funky but i hate the sprayer. Worst atomizer ever of all the bottles i ever owned. The shot is narrow, bearly shoot out any juice.
Performance is okay, not that good. i have like 3-4h and projection is pretty average.

tzaiki

The floral combo in this is nice, overall a very good perfume, leaning more masculine than feminine though. If there was a nicer bottle I' d keep it. But these dead eyes on the bottle and the cap just make it a NO go for me. I see the celebrity perfumes for me just do not work. Wether a colab with the CDG or a celebrity on its own is a meh!

5pritzer

Masculine.
Spicy & Fresh.
Unique, sophisticated, classy scent. 👌
Very good longevity 8hrs+.
This had so much hate due to its old price ($120ish) however, this goes below $40 now which makes this a steal! After all, this is a collab between Pharell, Kaws & Commes des Garcons (CDG).
Perfect for daily wear in the office or casual meetings. Excellent performance.

alsfox

Love this fragrance , had it for the last 4 yrs I would say it’s a very pleasant masculine scent . One thing about it that I am not satisfied is the longevity is moderate and sillage performance is poor. Other then that e smell is great on my skin. Recommended to those who want a subtle woody dry down on your skin.

Essy_C

I got this as a blind buy, 99p for 10mls on ebay. Its an intruiging blend that isnt overpoweringly floral or feminine, although I picked out the violet note I didnt notice the lavendar until I read the notes here. On my skin it warms up to a gorgeous mild white patchouli and violet with a touch of lavendar (which I dont usually wear)

harperhilton

*why* is this not more raved about? it is spectacular imo. if it were sold by cdc it would get the accolades it deserves. i am smitten (and i love the bottle, too. the cap -- not so much :-)

so: it's a dry, woody violet with a very small sweet tinge in there, which latter is not immediately apparent but definitely there in the dry-down. shades of fahrenheit and the original NR for him. addictive. use sparingly and get a bottle before it disappears (it's been discontinued.)

a major find for me, along the lines of caron's 3me homme having been a major find for me at the time (no relation scent-wise, though.)

and yes, i'm a woman.

cinnamonfrosting

Got this fragrance SUPER cheap, I didn't originally get it for the perfume, I got it for the bottle! It is quite strong, slightly overbearing but nice! I love violet fragrances but I think it's too woody for me so I don't wear it often. Pleasant though! I think it's a more male fragrance

Andy the Frenchy

A so peppery violet inb the top, supported by a blurry round woody note. The base will focus on a very nice vetiver note. Nice, but do not expect one of CdG legendary fragrances here.
In a nutshell: should you bump into a $5 spray, it might be worth getting it. But should you decide not to, you won't be missing anything. The pricing is just fair imo for what it is, since it's overall just ok for me. Should you look for a similarly priced fragrance, I'd suggest Lalique Hommage a' L'Homme instead, which is more interesting imo.
Mild days, 20+

intlV

This was a blind buy bc I enjoy unisex scents and Pharrell as an artist. I can see this easily becoming a daily wear. The iris pulls more towards orris in the dry down, and is all but non-existent in the open. The styrax and alcohol gives the opening a retro, Calgon-esque feel, a trip to the 80s/90s that I wasn't expecting. It quickly mellows out into a well blended, unisex fougere that lasts for 10 hours and is more than worth the price.

Venusia

Unisex spicy violet, leans masculine just a bit. I smell a light Fahrenheit on this "GIRL" and I like it so much. My man wears proudly Fahrenheit Edt and I wanted a version of it for me. This is it! Happy with my blind-buy. And I actually like this funny different bottle.

djbuffoon

Rarely have I done an about-face on a fragrance like I did with GIRL. Sampled this several years ago, hated it. Couldn't scrub it off fast enough.

And yet, since then, I couldn't get it out of my mind. Bought a travel size bottle last week, and then immediately bought a full bottle. Not sure my problem was before, but this is a lovely, mature, slightly powdery violet and patchouli scent. Works best for spring and early fall. Sillage is soft, but it lasts for at least twelve hours on the skin. Impressive juice all around.

Giskela

I found one but the bottom of the bottle says Made in France 14f30/1432 but I can't find out that batch code where was it manufactured. Anyone can help?

gatsby

Fresh shavings, violets, pepper, iris and vetiver. Very professional made, almost with a niche vibe. It is a Comme de Garçon creation, after all. Very good silage and strong longevity for the old, first editions. After 2017 until discontinuation, t it was watered down. If you find a 2014-2016 batch, grab it fast.More on masculine side IMO as well. Beautiful, quality fragrance in a stunning bottle and package.

plum

I bought it completely blindly. I ordered it once off ebay but it got lost in post. It was while ago and now I thought it was going to be discontinued, so - now or never.
I need to say after reading the reviews here, it is underated fragrance and seems to be controversial.
It opens with neroli which is not my favourite. Then I can smell lavender. And later it gets dry and powdery. It seems to be more masculine than femine, at some point it smelt like Today for men by Avon or maybe it was my husband's top hanging on the chair I was sitting. Longevity is poor, after a few hours there was no smell on my wrist, but I like it and think it was well spent £3.50 for a 10 mls bottle. I have the feeling it is going to be discontinued soon so grab it while you can!

Jacquis

If you are looking for:
* A more feminine Lalique Encre Noire; or
* A more masculine Guerlain Insolence; with
* A dash of Perles De Lalique

Here you go, Girl by Pharrell. This perfume is gorgeous and delightfully androgynous. The violet lends that slight green floral but watery transparency to the vetiver. The lavender is not very pronounced and the spice adds uniqueness. This can be worn in all seasons and by anyone. I am wearing this on an 88F humid summer day. Exactly what I would expect from Pharell. A serious floral vetiver. A meeting of the genders in the middle. Ten years ago, I would not have appreciated GIRL. This requires moderate fragrance experience to understand. Great value as well. So happy that I found this one. Longevity is amazing, at least 8 hours. I'd guess silage is moderate.

fewormany

Sharp. Powder (violet & iris) and pepper.
Reads more guy than girl on me, but suitable for anyone.

Quite a noseburner in the beginning, becomes smoother after about 15 minutes but keeps some sharp edges. I can still smell it on myself after 12 hours, sometimes even the next day. I really like it, but not an everyday scent to me.

manpen

You have to hand it to them in terms of being somewhat no-compromise in the creation and marketing. When most people probably know you for 'Happy' and you call your fragrance 'GIRL' - what you get here is very far from what you might be expecting. There is the hint of flowers and nature here, but it's heading more to sedate, calm, thoughtful rather than effervescently the smell of female brightness. So, the name can be seen as ironic, and then you put it up in an uncompromising bottle designed by Kaws - making it an art statement right of the bat - AND - you get CDG to make it. As a unisex perfume you've sent most men running for the hills with the name and presentation and most women will take a sniff and get a disconnect. How not to sell a celebrity perfume? Hard core!!

As for the scent - I LOVE it - wearable by anyone, anywhere, anytime. On me it's VERY light and not a projector but it drys to a very contenting wrapped in a light cashmere blanket you've just walked through a pepper coated wood with, the sun peeking through, smell... You can pick this up for a tenner - which for a Comme perfume is amazing - and - to me at least - it bears the brands often slightly unworldly scent whilst being massively less jarring than say '8 88'. Fill your cupboard with these at this price - will be a great standby for years to come.

Let me start by saying that for me Girl is as girly as Mrs Doubtfire. In fact it is so masculine (just have a look at the notes and have no illusions) that I consider the name a provocation (well, controversy sells). The way I see it, most girls, let alone women, will simply find Girl too gloomy (disclaimer: I kind of like girls/women who actually smile). For me it has no uplifting or relaxing qualities whatsoever. Also, I just cannot imagine anyone wearing it in spring or summer. I quickly grew tired of it. I now layer it with David Beckham Instinct as it gives it a nice bergamot vibe. Performance-wise, it is rather disappointing (for an EDP). It stays on my skin for 5 to 6 hours. On the good side, it does not feel synthetic or cheap.

cleo cupcake

This definitely leans to the masculine side for me. I get vetiver, cedar, sandalwood and a touch of rubber and birch tar. Somewhere between the softness of Bvlgari Black and the toughness of Lonestar Memories. No violets or any other florals. I like it and I thinks it's quite wearable but I think I'm going to like it better on my husband.

TrephineArtist

This is an unusual one, at least to my nose!

Going to have to come back to this one, it's interesting I'll give it that but right at this moment I don't think it's for me!

I pick up a strong white pepper odour (when it comes to food I much prefer black pepper in both taste and scent). A vase of cut flowers doused in white pepper. Later though the cedar and vetiver become quite prominent to me.

To be continued...perhaps.

christianne1

I must be completely anosmic to the violets. I can’t smell anything but fresh woody aroma chemicals. I heard so many nice things about this one but I don’t get it. Smells very cheap to me. I’m actually wondering if my sample is fake or something. It came in a black packet and everything about it looks legitimate but what I’m smelling is not violet or anything remotely close to Prada Infusion d’Iris. I’m baffled.

ysl187

i really dont get the hate!!

The opening is nice the mid and dry down! i find this unique but not challenging for the "everyday man"..

my girlfriend was like meh. But who cares, you can not win over everybody!

The fragrance starts intensely violety and I like it. But after 10-15 minutes it becomes disappointingly indistinctive. It appears this nameless Girl got carried away in picking up violets and has now found herself lost in the woods. The earthy iris and sandal barks she desperately embraces whisper soft and encouraging words in her ears, but tell of no way out of the woods.
To me Girl is actually interesting but not one for repetitive wearings. I don’t like being lost in this particular forest more than once.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This is some peppery wood shavings! But.... I really like this.

The opening is super sneezy and masculine- but this works as it dries down. It's thin/dry and reminds me of paper/old books. (There are several notes in common with V & R Dirty Trick- which also smells like ink/paper) I mostly get the dry papery woody iris with a green/vegetal/earthy/dirt.

Guys, if you like Love in Black for Women from Creed- this is your version. Put a hefty dose of wood and pepper in Love in Back- and you get this.

The potency/sillage was HUGE at first (SNEEZY!) but calms way down, and in about 3-4 hours, I didn't have much left.

Overall, I like this! I wouldn't wear it to work, it's too weird, but as it dries down it gets more people-friendly.

Although I have written a review on this previously I would like to add some further thoughts on this amazing fragrance.
I have been layering my fragrances for years now, each their own. Anyway I found surprising enough that when Pharrell Girl layered with my Solinotes Cerisier gives a definite Chanel 19 vintage edp vibe circa late eighties early nineties vintage vibe.. I'm super surprised at how similar to Chanel 19 this pairing is. I'm serious. So in looking up the respective notes indeed. Pharrell Girl and Chanel 19 share quite a few similar notes. Not that note sharing in itself is a guarantee of of similar smelling fragrances.
I just thought I'd add this anecdote to the site. If you're lucky enough to score a flcon inexpensively and are an aficionado of Chanel's No 19. Give it a whirl. Lasts and lasts.

TonyAKAMrClean

One of the best celebrity scents I've tried!

I thought it was going to be more feminine, but this is indeed very Unisex. I agree, more masculine than feminine, but still perfectly Unisex.

There's nothing synthetic about it, and it is very nichy in scent. If Bond No. 9 and Montale had a baby, that company would produce scents inline with this one.

Without looking at the notes, I was thinking cotton candy, hazelnut, violet, patchouli... but looking at the note pyramid, the iris must be softening up the vetiver to give it that nutty vibe. The amount of sweetness is perfect, not too much, but not so little as to allow the notes to be too controversial to be unisex. Also, the iris doesn't stand out as a singular note. I've never smelled iris mixed or masked or complimented so closely as this before, so I must say, I'm wowed.

This is not the basic woody or citrus or generic "I just want to be even more famous" type of celebrity scent at all. There was some real thought put into this scent and it wears WELL above its price tag!

The only negative for me is that the bottle is a little childish to my personal tastes and reminds me of the spongebob and marvel/disney scents, but who cares - it's what's inside that counts.

Props, Pharrell. This is dope!

reborn

80% masculine and 20%feminine.It is very niche, very dark, smokey vetiver and dry violets and leather. When it settles down is very mascuiline. I like it very much.Thr bottleand name suggest something fresh, fun and sweet, but it is opposite.

isabella_andromeda

I blind bought this because it had been on my "to try" list for a while and it was on sale for almost nothing.

When I took my first spray onto my arm, I thought I'd made a terrible mistake - the irises and violets are really strong, and it smelled to me like an old lady's handbag. (I would later get used to the opening.)

Leaving it on, though, it morphed into something quite different. I think this must have been the pepper and the woods coming through. My skin tends to make everything smell a little soapier and cooler in temperature, and I think that helped too. It has a real slouchy, chilled-out air about it, and the flower punch at the beginning makes a lot more sense when you've smelled the drydown.

As a Pharrell scent, I think it totally works: it's slick and cool, with a bit of a quaint classic charm about it. It's also weirdly non-gendered, rather than unisex - less "for men and women", more "that wasn't even a question in the first place".

Bigsly

The unisex version of Narciso Rodriquez' first "masculine" release. I did a dab sampling so I'll update when I wear it the usual way.

UPDATE: With a couple sprays to the chest, I get the same result. I find it a pleasant but "abstract" composition, without too much of a "chemical" quality. Thus, if you asked me if it's a fougere, oriental, gourmand, etc., I would not have an answer for you. Even the iris/powdery quality is different from most others I've tried. Perhaps "industrial pleasant" could be a new category for a scent like this. Another idea is "celebuniche," since I wouldn't quite call it niche, as it's a bit light, and smoother than most niche.

I was looking for this fragance but It is not easy to find It here. Endly i found It in a perfumes online outlet for a very good price. The smell is wonderful for me. It is soapy, creamy, powdery, Woody, flowery and very very spicy. It makes me remwmber of other comme de garcons parfum but i cant remember which one... Cdg quality for a Zara price.

Longevity: 8

This is not de most long lasting perfume i have, but It is better than most of the perfumes which can be found nowdays un the market.

Sillage: 8

His projection is quite good as well. This fragance is not a beast but it goes with you and after you for some hours

Quality/price: 10

As i have said before, i find It quite as a niche fragance for the price that a supermarket perfume costs. It really worths his price

Versatility: 9

I think It is a very versatile perfume. It could be a oerfect perfum for a daily use case of his soapy and powdery character... But It is strong and spicy enough yo became a nice company for night out or yo assit todo different events.

Bubbles1964

Not a scent review: doesn’t sound like something I would like, but I do love the unique, pop art bottle. I love the character and colors, and it looks like a nice thing to hold in your hands. Props to the bottle designer.

Tine1world

I purchased this with the intent to layer with other fragrances to give the lighter ones more depth.

This is the longest lasting fragrance since Paco Rabanne's 'La Nuit' no similarity in scent, that I have come across.

It's a great unisex fragrance. I paid AUS $ 14.99 for a 100 mill EDP with a work of art for a bottle/vessel.

I find this spicy and woodsy in the a similar vein to Cavalli and Madonna Dare. More suited to the colder climes, the similarity between the afforemented is not identical as this is just a reminder of those fragrances.

It's highly unsex and that's fine, one can tart this up as the base notes for more floral and or fruity fragrance even a heavy musk. It's not too herbal or acrid either.

In conclusion I am very happy to have had the opportunity to purchase this at a bargain price, it sits well as a contrast to my otherwise travelling collection of floral fruity and musky fragrances, and again is extremely long lived. 24 hours plus on my skin.

diatosin

To me this smells great for the first minute, earthy greenery, spicy herbs, some kind of witch tea... But after that first minute it all goes heywire, the magic evaporates and I see myself in my fiance's tool garage with all his dirty, greasy, oily tools... motor oil and hemp oakum. I don't know what note does that, I blame the vetiver or styrax.
So I asked his opinion about it... without telling him any notes, he smelled a rusty car filled with herbs. I see how many people could like this smell, not generic or mass appealing, a no-no for him also.
To sum it up, to me this is how his hands smell after he works on the car engine without gloves or after he did some plumbing around the house.

indigo

A lovely member sent me an unmarked decant of this as a "blind sniff & guess what it is".
My brain/nose filtered out literally everything except for the huge dose of overbearing peppery synthetic wood. I couldn't (& still can't) identify any florals at all in this. Girl manages to encapsulate everything I hate in modern perfumery, with that pungent fuzzy horrible (to me) note which I constantly pick up on - & tried for so long to identify & pin down. It's well & truly here folks - in buckets.I know it's synthetic "woods", but I don't understand this chemical, & it doesn't even smell anything like real wood to me.
This is probably down to my own limitations & perception, but I truly cannot stand this. It hits my senses like a pick axe. I think it's dreadful, & smells on my skin like it costs about 10p per litre to manufacture. Girl smells just like cheap "sports/fresh" type deodorants, & loads of other modern synthetic "woody" perfumes (DSquared offerings springs to mind).

Sorry Pharrell... but I do really like your hat :)

cocofluff

This fragrance is very unisex but leans masculine to my nose. Smells very mature. It's powdery (iris), a little peppery, and a "dank" (as someone stated below) watery lavender scent. Then later lots of cedar in the base. It's very interesting. Unique. Resinous. Oily. Vegetal but not grassy. On its own it's too masculine for me to wear.

Happy to enjoy my 10mL mini bottle. And VERY happy to have smelled this fragrance and to have had time with it.

EDIT: It's a NZ summer night and I'm testing this one again and I like it better than I did last year. -

AHeartLikeMine

An interesting woody/powdery/vetiver that smells familliar, but I can't place it. Perhaps it shares a scent with a hand soap, or candle, or room freshener?

shushkin

Girl is a massive pepper/vetiver/wood bomb. I should have sprayed on one of those paper testing strips. I sprayed on my wrist and it had me coughing and spluttering. My skin has done its usual amp up the pepper trick!! I can barely make out the violet at the start. I don't know what happened to the lovely iris or lavender. Please don't blind buy.

After 15 mins or so it settles to pepper/vetiver/dry wood shavings with a little violet.

Wait another 30 mins and it actually smells good. The iris and lavender are finally allowed to surface along with some pencil shavings. Im not sure I can be bothered to wait half an hour for it to smell nice.

This would make a nice work scent. It's really unisex so fellas get your nose on this fab cheapie.

Moderate sillage and longevity. If your skin tends to amp up the pepper note then test with caution.

msginsling

Blind buy. Delicious. Heavily concentrated dank lavender. Surprised by the price as this is definitely from the CdG stable and not just a side line. I'm especially surprised that's is not currently being marketed through Dover Street Market, perhaps someone feels Pharrell is too commercial (celebrity) and so no longer fits the DSM/CdG brand profile.
Perhaps not the easiest (commercial) of fragrances to wear. Personally I adore it.

addendum... I put a scarf on yesterday and a bit later I was hit with a blast of something unbelievably wonderful. Truly delightful and truly remarkable. warm and classy. The price on amazon is now £73 my last bottle (purchased in December 2018) was £22. seems this is now out of stock though.

Juiceman 0331

I want to buy this just because of the bottle. I compare fragrances to a time machine certain fragrances that I have in my collection are just like that. For example, Bvlgari Man Extereme reminds me of the time when I was in Boracay Island in the Philippines and my wife and I found out that she’s pregnant with our first baby.
Fahrenheit reminds me of seeing my dad in 1994 after being separated from him for 12 years, he gave me a Fahrenheit, so everytime I see my new bottle it reminds me of my dad.
I consider great looking perfume bottles like a piece of art that you display in your living room and this “Girl by Pharrell” bottle is gorgeous.

Sorry if I had nothing to say about the actual fragrance since I haven’t tried it.

Heetkin

Sentence Summary:

I got a 10ml of this out of Poundland for a quid. This scent needs it's own category, as for me it's neither for men nor women, but somewhere inbetween...
Smells nothing like Farenheit, but does smell like when crushed up Parma Violet's are being roughly kneaded into warm Play-dough while a Bakewell tart's baking in the oven.
A Strange Brew.

spcmiller

I received a sample of this in a recent trade and immediately fell in love with its imaginative nature and uniqueness: I can't immediately think of anything else that smells even remotely like this one. Upon spraying, I get this blast of what I would describe as almond rather than wood, which fades quite quickly. Then, for the duration of the scent, I smell a lavender soapiness which I am quite enamored with. Never intrusive, but omnipresent. Given its current price point this lasts a decent amount of time and I get wafts of it throughout the day, so I'm assuming others can smell it as well.

As others have said, this scent suffered from poor marketing and lame presentation. I don't know that it attracted its desired demographic, and at $135 per 100MLs originally, it was probably a VERY difficult sell. But now, it's available at an excellent price, and once discontinued, I can see it rising in value quite quickly for a multitude of reasons. Might have to pick up a backup bottle just in case. ;-)

spinderella

The Fahrenheit-connexion made me a bit weary of this scent, because Fahrenheit is bonded with some fairly bad memories for me (as our brains do with perfumes and memories good, bad and ugly). But I am glad I tried this perfume. Cheap as chips and amazingly beautiful. It has the same metallic violet- note as Fahrenheit, but in an inoffensive way. It has a niche feeling, special and less boring than most unisex fragrances. Recommended.

gtabasso

Basically, this is a sweet, soft woody fragrance with cedar as the main note. It's there from the top. After the sweetness wears off, it is cedar with a hint of lavender. I wouldn't call this a "violet" fragrance. It is NOT floral nor candied but the flower lends the wood a sweetness in the top. This quickly becomes a skin scent and lasts about 2-3 hours.I will say that this is niche for $8-10. It is not a cheapie scent but it smells derivative and like many other sweet woody scents out there. Worth it if you get it cheap! Glad I didn't spend $35 on it.

thetcq

This is one that will smell according to its surface and environment. Initially, I had huge reminiscent of Dior Fahrenheit, as I’m sure was intended by Pharrell. It then got smokish and feminine but changed to sweet and masculine. It switched back and forth many times and I love it. It’s like wearing 2 different but similar fragrances. For a bold, extrovert, like myself and Pharrell, it fits very well. I am 17 years old but I feel my grandma with a similar personality as mine could wear this. If you try this fragrance out, don’t let it wear you.
Overall: 9/10

Chaos Reigns

Girl is a product of the cooperation between Antonie Lie, who has worked on three Comme des Garcons perfumes and many other things, and Christian Astuguevieille who's not actually a perfumer, more like an art director or something of the sort at CdG, basing this perfume on requests by celebrity simpleton Pharrel Williams.

Sillage: skin scent. Longevity: hours -- if you get as close as 1 cm to your skin at application point. To me the overall mix of notes is a quite repelling synthetic sweetness. Not so far from, say, Playboy products, Girl does not offer much more refinement than perfumes generally available at supermarkets.

In comparison to the only definite DdG perfume I know, Concrete, which I love, there is a really slight similarity between the two, which, I think, must be the modest synthetic woody notes. While Concrete is zesty, fresh, fruity (apricots?), Girl is cloyingly synthetic sweet.

(Note that the French fashion company's fragrances are made in collaboration with many different perfumers. I actually couldn't google who the nose behind Concrete was. Anyone knows? Give me a PM.)

RachelGrigg

Ive been racking my brain tying to work out what i own that this smells like...... and its Envol de Cartier! Phew! Finally worked it out. Very similar i think although girl is less sweet and a bit more powdery. Im sure i can smell white musk....
I just got it.
Full wearing tomorrow.

nattonline

I also do get Fahrenheit and a mixture of reduced sugar Angel. Quite nice tho, in my opinion. A bit too heavy for me to wear during summer. Absolutely a nice welcome to my collection.

Agnes1

Transvestite Fahrenheit.
Makes me think of Frank N. Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Fahrenheit wearing garter belts and lipstick.
Can't stop laughing after spraying it for the first time today. ROFL!
Very cool.
Changes from masculine to feminine to masculine to feminine all the time.
Was a blind buy for me and I don't regret it.
The bottle is fantastic.

timkal69

What a gem I have found in the rough... The opening was quite reminiscent of For Him by Narcisso Rodriguez, but then it slowly turned into this more pleasurable Fahrenheit.

This fragrance will be something to reckon with once all the stocks dry up and the prices skyrocket. Like someone already mentioned, you won't like it because it is not meant for you.

Harpalike

What a two-faced frag! It started harsh and very dry - lot of dry wood, dusty vetievr and harsh pepper. Definitely masculine, I thought! Aften an hour warmed by the spring Sun, violet and iris came. Gentle and bright, slightly sweet and cosmetic powdery. Definitely feminine! I love the base - very mild and at the sime time fresh cedar and veriter which turns from stucking in the lungs dustiness from the opening into gentle and sweet lemon.

invisiblewoman

This is the only "celeb" scent that I own (by way of an awesome Fragrantican who gifted it to me), and I actually quite like it. The perfume is a woody, violet extravaganza with a hint of sweetness. I don't really understand all of the hate for it--I think it's fun, casual, and interesting. The bottle is unique, and while def not my fav, as a lover of graffiti art, I can appreciate it. The presentation was also quite lovely. I can, like others have mentioned, imagine wearing it with a white tee and jeans, or even a flirty little dress. I find it versatile and relaxed.

greyhoundmom

G I R L is aptly named because it's quite feminine, in my opinion! Maybe tomboyish but not masculine at all. There is a sweet powderiness to it from the musk and lavender that I can't imagine on a man. It is a quirky scent, for sure.

One of the few fragrances with noticeable vetiver that I actually enjoy--my other vetiver-heavy favorite being Angel Muse. Vetiver can come across as very masculine and mature and unwearable for me but this is a lovely representation of it. Fresh and peppery florals and woods add depth and make this an instant favorite of mine.

This is a good low maintenance casual jeans and t-shirt kind of fragrance, reminiscent of CK Obsessed in its vibe. It's also super strong and has crazy longevity, I can smell it on myself the next morning.

Mim

What a great surprise this little woody maniac is.
I must admit, this smells a lot better than I could ever hope.
It's so woody and creamy. Very uplifting and well balanced.
The vetiver, soapy lavender, cedar and milky sandalwood with a touch of powdery iris and a hint of white pepper is what I get from this one. I wish I could smell the violet here, but I cannot.
I find it pleasing and long-lasting. Sillage is moderate (soft toward the end). However, I prefer it more on my husband than on me. It's a bit sweeter on his skin. Very sexy. :)

The design house Comme des Garçons occupies a specific perch in the fashion world. It is known for being off-beat, progressive, trend-setting. Search for "Comme des Garçons" and "avant-garde"--- it'll take days to dig through all the results. The brand has a strong interest in maintaining an unconventional appearance. CdG's perfumes convey the bona fides of their non-conformity by emphasizing three qualities: iconoclasm ('anti-perfumes' such as Odeur 53 and Odeur 71), thingness (recontextualized scents like Dry Clean, Sticky Cake and Concrete) and a signature style of synth-woodiness. The first two speak to the reputation CdG want to preserve, the third identifies the brand and ties it to that reputation. The question is to what extent the brand has the brand reduced avantgardism to a set of signifiers in an attempt to market their artistry?

After the Series collections of 2000-2008 the brand focussed on marketing creative collaboration. Collaborations with Stephen Jones, Monocle, Daphne Guinness, Hussein Chalayan and Gosha Rubchinskiy widen CdG's style profile and replenish the brand's street cred. In 2014 CdG joined forces with Pharrell Williams on the perfume Girl. It was a significant ramp-up from figures known strictly to close followers of the fashion industry to the most prominent superstar of the day. CdG phrased Girl as a collaborative project, but let's call it what it is. Girl is a celebrity perfume.

So what did each of the collaborators stand to gain?

For Pharrell, it's easy. Affiliation with avant-garde ('serious') art gives a high-brow to his pop career. Pharrell has a track record of pop-up style art and design projects and for him, creating a perfume with a groovy fashion brand was no different. It supported the narrative that he is ‘about’ creative idiosyncrasy and avant-garde style. Accumulated incidences of cool give him legitimacy and balance out large scale public projects (think The Voice) with smaller artsy ones. The free advertising that the perfume provided for his album Girl didn’t hurt. If I sound cynical, I'm not. The integration of Pharrell Williams's musical work and his interest in design and fashion is smart and intriguing. It breaks down the boundaries between marketing and the work being marketed.

CdG's gains were different. Pharrell didn't win a new demographic, nor did he need to. CdG on the other hand did gain exposure to a wider market. By making a celebrity fragrance but couching it as an artistic collaboration, CdG sought to immunize themselves against accusations of ordinariness. It gave them a new foothold on the shelves of Sephora without sacrificing the high ground. It was an opportunity to sell out without selling out.

Girls has been promoted as a mainstream version of CdG’s style of spare woods but in truth, the perfume's sweet synthy woods put it more in line with young men's club fragrances like Paco Rabanne 1 Million, Victor and Rolf Spicebomb and Tom Ford Noir Extreme. They all share a similar design concept. Tenacious woods, syrupy/powdery sweetness, spice notes and aromatics all shout for your attention. A lavender/violet topnote gives Girl a passing similarity to an aromatic fougère, but the demanding sweet-woody accord drills to the surface quickly and smothers the lavender in syrup. The perfume vibrates on a frequency that that suggests lopsided doses of industrial strength woody aromachemicals and the topnotes in particular are piercing.

As with all of CdG's joint perfume projects, there is an assumption that the perfume will be a reflection of the artistic collaboration that went into the project. But what if it’s not? In this case the perfume and the story have next to nothing in common. If Girl had shown evidence of the high minded artistic collaboration that CdG and Pharrell would have us believe I might feel less like I’ve been sold a bill of goods. Unfortunately Girl has the expediency of a convenient hook-up and makes Pharrell and Comme des Carçons seem more like friends with benefits rather than serious collaborators.

One of the first perfumes that I can't pinpoint the smell of!
It's honestly a weird type of perfume to me:/
I'm always honest with my reviews. This smells pungent, I hated it & actually did regret buying it.
I thought I'd get my younger brother to try it, since I don't think it suited me, I don't think this would suit a female. To my surprise he hated it & squinted his face the moment I spritz it on his wrist. That second he got up just to wash it off LOL!
Sorry to anyone who likes/loves this perfume.

kasienka26

Im a comme des garçons cents lover. To add to my collection i blind bough it. It's very flowery, reminds me of any elisabeth arden perfume. It's not bad, but it has nothing to do with comme des garconses perfumes. Seriously, nothing. If you wanna blind buy it for the CdG reason, don't. you are waisting time. If you look for other brands CdG like, check Montale Greyland and Montale Full incense. You ll love it

WhiteVelvet

Girl perfume is a powdery lavender on me.
With a bit of sweet violet coming through. I like this.
Very nice and lasts all day. I find it more femme than
masculine. I am not wild about the packaging. I like the scent. Smells very expensive.

mkpunk

Comme des Garçons' Pharrell Williams GIRL is a bit weird. I found it super cheap on clearence in the 10ml size at Ross. I find that it's a lighter scent but it is definitely 80's. I am pretty sure Pharrell's use of Fahrenheit was influential in GIRL except that it is a more feminine fragrance than Fahrenheit is typically. I'm not saying that is a bad thing at all.

Like Fahrenheit, I find petrol heavy violet in GIRL. However, I find that the petrol is softer. I find the iris softens it with a slight cosmetic bag feel. GIRL opens with some lavender and a good amount of pepper before going into the petrol/cosmetic bag mid. The base is slighter with some vetiver and cedar, I don't smell other notes honestly.

GIRL's performance is good but can be better. i find the projection is soft to moderate with no clear winner. i get wiffs through the mid for about 4 hours and it is a skin scent for two more hours. GIRL is mostly a fall and spring night time scent for me. For day use it is possible but not for me. I find GIRL works for dates, casual and upscale settings.

GIRL I find is pretty nice but I'm unsure if I'll rebuy because it is limited to night use and I got enough night options personally. That said, I rate GIRL 7.0 out of 10 for a nice smelling scent but with some performance issues on my skin.

amberonic

I bought this because I had been wanting a frag by CdG and I was so stoked when I found it at Ross for the cash I had in my pocket. I find myself reaching for this about once a month when I need something "modern" and "different" that is also fresh and light. It's a perfect denim+white tee frag. As in, it's a basic that reads as effortless chic while being a 21st century CKOne.

Tiger84

Girl is amazing. I don't get the name or the marketing, but I also don't mind, who cares, it just adds to the uniqueness of this whole creation. It is of exquisite quality.
For me, it is mostly sandalwood, with its milky facets, and cedar, slightly bitter but gentle, not the scratchy, hard cedarwood that makes Bois Rouge or Japon Noir so badass, here it is behaving. The opening gives us some violet which contributes to the Fahrenheit-like petrol-ish note. Then vetiver is getting emphasis in the drydown, reminding me to Encre Noir. Great composition. Not too strong, medium longevity.

However, what nobody writes about is the presentation, the excellent, gorgeous, careful packaging. The box is huge, and the bottle and its whole presentation is so unexpected. A tasteful note tells us that the bottle has been painted by a new, experimental method. Interesting and unique, and the price can't be beaten either! This is excellent quality for celeb frag price.

gingergirl60

I was intrigued to wear this as I like Pharrell and was interested to sniff a perfume he was behind. Being a bit short on cash was pleased to find small bottles of it in my local pound shop. I hadn't read any reviews to sprayed away! It is strong, but that is good news for me. It is quite strong on the violet, which is a favourite with me. I can't speak for any men but I think they would like it,it is quite woody. So far am pleased with my purchase and might go in search of more. But why call it Girl?

jenn.ca

Oh, GIRL, you are a precious thing. Very misunderstood by a lot of people. I find your design very edgy, and the graphic touches are what makes your body unique. Violets, with smoke and powder. That's what I get when the fragrance is on me, and it is incredibly soft, despite what the other reviews say. Find it more feminine than masc, but both can definitely wear it, and both can definitely make it work.

russianGY

This is absolutely perfect scent for man or woman who’d like to make statement that they are EXCENTRIC and slaves to abstract ART. My immediate visual imagery pulled Kazimir Malevitch “Black Square” - iconic to seeking minds and general-public-opinion’s disaster. IT is unbelievable in its longevity; and I think, in general, it’s just accidental struck from other dimension that happened to come through Pharrell. Commes des Garçons, from other side - are so expected to be found behind thing like this! - ha-ha just twist their name gender-wise and here you go!
This Violet note always stands out - Fahrenheit, eau de Gaga, Jil Sander Man, BH Metal Jeans (I believe), e.g. etc.
..but ‘Oh boy’ (or shall I say here - ‘Oh girl’!) Violet here is abducted into some futuristic alliance.. All ingredients named - are quite familiar.. how come this perfume twisting my olfactory brains!? There must be something else there, or maybe they irradiate it by laser beam while mixing..
I promise you - U WON’T LIKE IT - cause IT’S made NOT 4 LIKING!! IT’s for making the person who wears it to fall out of ordinary, to generate disturbance and to challenge feelings and mind - as if some ultra-violet alien hides behind their human form. Don’t be scared now to try though- it’s perfume by all definitions and there’s nothing unpleasant here.
Brilliant (well, quasi-brilliant) perfume. Any age any gender can pull it and be challenged by it.
As much as I like to pull “macho” majority of the time - I have days when I want to listen only to David Bowie and wear silver plastic shoes on bear feet and not to comb my hair, and put all my jewelry at once and go to wine tasting with friends.. is it ‘girl’ in me? cause on those days this perfume is the “bulz-eye”.

SterlingArcher

What a disgusting mess and travesty to the fragrance world. X'd out eyes means it's dead you know lol. Couldn't wash this crap off fast enough! The bottle is crap, the juice is crap, as is the maker. It's a big f$%k no for me.

violetstorm

well i wanted to love this but unfortunately it just didnt work for me..............it smelled very alcoholy or medicinal on me :( the bottle is awesome though lol..........i was hoping for more lavender & iris & violet but thats not what came thru on me..........luckily i only paid like 20 bucks on a discount site so didnt loose too much money lol.............

freddinos

I love Pharrell Williams, but Girl was not for me. It smelled like a combination of Dior’s Fahrenheit from back in the day, with DSquared2 She Wood, sprinkled with violets, grounded in wet concrete.
Fun bottle, quirky scent.

Ashleighgreen

I knew this would not be a run of the mill celeb fragrance. I personally love the design and the bottle. The fragrance smells of powdery wet concrete...in a good way. Soft and creamy with a sharpness of pepper. Its art. So not surprisingly it won't be to everyones taste.

GainsbourgFan

I don't know what it is about this fragrance but I find it very compelling. It's equal parts woody, floral, and fruity to me - even though fruit isn't really included in the notes. It's a sweet and almost melon note, but there is plenty of cedar and vetiver alongside some powdery violet and iris. I'd almost...almost say it's a bit like classic Mr Bubble in adult cologne form, with wood.

I'm kind of surprised it wasn't a success, I was able to get a full-size retail bottle at FragranceNet for under $20. I like Kaws, CdG, and Pharrell so perhaps my opinion is biased but it's a cool bottle, cool concept, and a unique fragrance. Definitely has a place in my collection at that price!

mmcdonald36

It's a mix between Aqua Fahrenheit and Creed Tabarome. Unexpected and very good. Confused by the low rating. I guess it's just women who wanted another Flowerbomb clone

ashamoil

Smells like nettle tea and sadness

LilIzzy86

If you've been looking for something that smells Biolage, look no further. Smells just like it to me. IF you too are disappointed that Sephora no longer carries this, there is an EXACT dupe by Nabeel, called Arbab. It's a middle eastern perfume oil you can buy on Amazon for $3.05. You literally can't beat that with a stick. Like I said, this is how is smells to me, but to each their own! I loved it.

RaggedyAnne

It was certainly too strong for me, definately unisex, but too much for me when I wore it. I gave it to my son and he wears it often, and on him I love it. He also wears Tom Ford perfumes, and I would put this in the same bracket...it has that same vibe to my nose.

trabuquera

Certainly unisex, certainly very nichey for the money, certainly unusual, and certainly great value. Full of notes I normally love and produced by someone I admire (in almost every sense). I wanted to love it; but somehow I don't.

Initially it comes over fresh and light, if a little synthetic-seeming - floral muskiness of some sort, a bit like a cheaper version of a Narciso Rodriguez (or something?). On me a it seemed a bit weak and generic-EdT-ish at first but there was definitely something darker and clingier lurking underneath. Oh god, is it vetiver? I fear it is. Or maybe a particularly dirty sort of patchouli. As it dries down this inky/sweaty/dusty note just gets drier and sharper and stronger and more obnoxious (just to me)- reaching an almost reeky-bitter level right at the end. No, don't like, sorry.

nitschevo

I'm surprised that this doesn't get more love. Maybe that's because of the connection to CDG and their (aside of Grace and Daphne) uniqueness and out of this world sillage. This is more quiet in comparison but nonetheless a well crafted woody fragrance with only a pinch of florals (violet mainly, the iris adds a dry aspect later on) woven in. If you like fragrances like Molecule, Light Blue, Dune, Fahrenheit or even Wonderwood this one could appeal to you as well. Longevity is very good with moderate sillage, which is a good thing to me because it's more universal that way.

Personally I like the bottle, it's different and mixes things up. I recommend reading about the background of the design & naming. Pharrell is an artist and very creative person so it's no surprise that he applied that to his venture in the fragrance world. I tend to keep bottles because they're art as well (mostly) and this one would look very nice in a bookshelf, IMHO.

Price has dropped enormously so snatch it up while it's still available.

missguided23

I snapped up a bottle from Chemist Warehouse for $14.99 too. It is definately well made. It's masculine and feminine at the same time. I am getting more of the feminine notes at the moment...but when I got into my very warm car the woody notes bloomed. I think this one is going to smell incredible during our stinking (and beautiful) Summer. Bring it on.

rhaineclayton

I've been hearing about this on a Facebook perfume group I'm in. It's only $15 at Chemist Warehouse, here in Australia. So, today I decided to dive in.
I did smell this a while back but it didn't impress me that much - probably because it was full price!
Today, I'm wearing it and I'm getting flashbacks to Karleidescope, but without the insect spray note.
Someone mentioned JLo Glowing. Yes, that too but without the dirty panty note.
So, overall it's a lot like a couple of perfumes I would have liked, minus the certain unpleasant notes that ruined them for me.
I'd say that's a successful blind-ish buy (especially for the price).

instantjim

So I have had this several days and applied it many times. I was really excited by the notes, violet, vetiver and patchouli being among my favourites. I really think this tends towards the masculine rather than the feminine and if were marketed as such would be more popular. The bottle is unusual (read hideous) and does not add to the product: I kinda want to cover it in black gaffer tape or something. I actually was hoping for stronger violet (I verry much love Grey Flannel) but to me this is subdued. There is an underlying sweetness, which reminds me of Oak by Bath and Body Works. The woods and spices balance the sweetness and make this an interesting, but not unnerving fragrance.
.

instantjim

This is currently on sale in Australia for $14.99 Aus for the 100ml size. This equates to approximately $11 US or about £8.50, which is amazingly cheap.

Angeldaisy

this actually stings my nostrils.
i love violets. i love plastic violets, as in Insolence. but not these ones.
opens with violets, as some lotiony fruity yoghurt thang. bit of green. green apple fruits. perhaps some pepper. but mostly, a vile nose stinging "woodsy fruity" aroma chemical that overwhelms the whole thing, gradually turning more and more "sharp sweet plastic woodsy" and lasts forever. this dreadful cheap woods chemical is in the new rendition of dirty english and possibly a lot of other budget man scents, underarm deodorants and the likes. i can "feel" it in my nose more than smell it.
on the plus side, i do love the tacky bottle. and it matches the scent i guess.
and if you do enjoy this fragrance, one spray will do, so your bouteille will last you a while.
for the record this smells nothing like the aforementioned:
infusion d'iris, Dior Homme, Mon Jasmin Noir, Farenheight etc.

sarabeegee

I expected a bit of oddity as Girl is a CdG product, and I got it. There is almost rotten fruit note at first, with a bit of green (artemisia? mint?) then it morphs into a violet/black pepper blast, and I do mean blast. The violet is of thermonuclear strength. Within an hour, however, I got green woody with a touch of floral aka Dior Fahrenheit. The dry down is quite lovely but the initial hour after application was unpleasant. This is a perfume I admire as an art project rather than one I would wear.

supertw94109

Nice watery cool violet and greens opening that turns very woody and then patchouli and pepper or slightly spicy end. Very interesting scent and lovely unique bottle by artist KAWS. Kind of cool fresh and slightly melancholy vibe. For me the woods were a bit too long lasting and persistent, I would have added some resins or saps to mitigate that wood as it was too dry compared to the cold watery front notes. It would have made the transition better.

Erinbath22

Beautiful violets and woods. This is a smooth, almost creamy concoction with sharp peppery facets. Just really nice. Iris smoothing it out to balance some masculine notes, and it comes out very unisex to me. An earthy, woody patch of violets. Because of the sharp pepper woods note over violet I visualize this scent as a soft pastel purple cotton ball with metal studs.
The dry down phase of this is mostly patchouli and thin woods.
This reminded me of JLo's Glowing in some ways in the heart. I like it for the same reasons I like that one. This is less fluffy, more unisex though. I have the tiny size without the weird bottle. I wish I had the weird bottle.
Update: I can't tolerate whatever makes this peppery/woody. My nose has learned to find a similar aromachemical in some other men's colognes also and it's so annoying.

_christine_

The thing with creative visionaries is that they don't always have mass appeal. Comme des Garçons is one of those innovative labels that customers don't always get or want to wear. Pharrell Williams is a visionary who can have amazing commercial success while being true to his muse.

Girl, the album, was wildly successful. Girl, the fragrance, didn't quite find its audience and I'm not sure why. It's a beautiful fragrance and very unique. It really hits the androgynous niche that aligns to the Comme des Garçons aesthetic. The fragrance is woody, mossy, and has violet providing clean floral notes.

Girl is unique and lovely. It's likely to be discontinued which is a shame.

Miss Guerlain

Strong & Soapy!
I have no other perfume that smells like this. On me it's very strong. Like this strong scented lavender & violet soap I used in the guest bathroom of my aunt as a child. Because this is exactly where this scent takes me. Lavender / iris / violet / & after 1h the vetiver takes over more These 4 notes that are leading on my skin. It's definitely not sweet to me. At all. As the scent is so STRONG on me I'll be more careful with my triggerhappy spray-finger and just spray once. Very NICHE to my nose & very unique a'la Comme des Garçons. Thumbs up for the creativity of the bottle & the same thumbs up on creating a niche scent that takes a bit effort to get to know & wear.

jwc001

Initial blast - for the first couple of hours, it's very similar to Narciso Rodriguez for him: the violet is nearly overpowering and catches in the throat. Later, the heat has died down and the iris comes through I think. The scent is calming and pleasant - I understand what people say when they talk about a "plastic" smell. Maybe that's the styrax. My nose cannot detect a resemblance between this and Farenheit - but I only have smelt Farenheit Parfum. So maybe one of the other versions of Farenheit is close.

The bottle is a bit odd - like something from a Ren and Stimpy cartoon, and the packaging a bit irritating, since I can't get the bottle in and out of the box very easily.

Cherry_Darling

This is definitely farenheit-esque, must be the violet + vetiver + the styrax gives it that leathery - for me almost subtle petrol station smell. The pepper and woods also give it a very niche feel. Definitely smells more expensive than it is, very good value perfume! Longevity is actually great! Drydown nice and sweet woody. Overall great value perfume.

Beadvised

So I bought this because the reviews seem decent and I thought the bottle was cute. I have not tested this on myself yet. A male allowed me to test it on his wrist. After a little convincing that it is unisex although it's called "girl". As soon as I sprayed it he says "this is feminine" lol. Says it's nice and there is only 1 sharp masculine note which would be the spicy note. I told him to wait until the dry down. In the end he still thinks it's feminine. I think it is unisex but more on the feminine side. I get both eliminates but this isn't something for all men to enjoy. I like it for a high end smelling fragrance at a low cost I really like the bottle.

Johnnyhelvete

its almost a carbon copy of Dior's Fahernheit.

miggs80

I'm glad I was told this was unisex because the "GIRL" name misled me. This stuff is awesome and definitely niche quality. Nothing else that I own whether niche or designer smells anything like this. There's something in this that is so addictive to me that makes me keep smelling wherever I sprayed it. Very interesting, unique, yet crowd pleasing at the same time. Don't let the price tag fool you. The price only dropped due to poor marketing. When I run out I will definitely be repurchasing. Great scent for any guy any age.

Max Logan

Lots of pleasant wood.
Top notes disappear quickly.
Not abusive or suffocating.
Lovely, but nothing special.

Giotedesco2980

I was at sephora and the bottle was the reason i approached it, thinking they accidentally put the girls perfume in the guys section, then i noticed it said for boys and girls! so i sniffed it and was amazed! I sparayed it on my wrist and i loved it! the beginning citrus with a cedar wood in the back ground, then not much of a change for the middle, then the dry down and it smelled great! it had a smooth vetiver and nice and woody!
now i loved it but i wanted to see what my friend who is a tough guy thought and i didn't show him the bottle, if i did he would have immediately not liked it saying it's girly!
But he did like! and i asked how do you think the girls will respond to it? he said it smells like a winner to me! I showed him the bottle a few days later, not sure if he will wear it again?
I am happy with it, i get compliments from girls often it works great with my skin! i am almost done with my first bottle, i need to buy another one quick i heard it's been discontinued.

no-fi

Promising notes, promising opening, generic peppery dry down. Pass.

FragranceAndFashion

This is a great fragrance. I get tons of compliments. Truly unisex. No one will dislike the smell of this fragrance that comes in contact with you when you are wearing this. I do about 10-12 sprays and it lasts about 8 hours.

mapache

I remember my first sniff of this at Sephora...and thought...."just OK ". But on days that I am smelling many scents, usually means that I don't get a scents true effect. But....ebay auction....$3.98 ....won item. Done deal, right ??? Well, I am very happy that I own this.
I find it more on the feminine side, but that's OK by me. The bottle is cartoon-ish...trendy. I find the scent sweet, but the undertones come in and out making it very interesting. I enjoy this scent. I get the violet/iris similar in other scents with these notes.

After 2 days and 1 night..(wearing it to sleep...lol)....
I LOVE IT !!!
Back-up bottle purchase for sure !!!

EDIT: People are saying this smells like Dior Fahrenheit????
NO WAY,Jose....I just did a side by side.....of both. LOL. NO !!!

Uh-umm

Girl reminds me of a type of mosquito pesticide (Egyptian incense) If you don't know, now you know. But somehow after a few wearings it grew on me and I think it smells intoxicating and pretty dam good. Kudos to Mr. happy.

ses101

Great bottle, but if they really want it to be "unisex", why call it "Girl"? Because of this, I can't see many straight men trying it out, which is a shame as CDG is, generally, a great fragrance maker.

knoxknoll777

This is my first Comme Des Garcon fragrance so I don't really have a reference point for this house other than this. I can say that I really enjoy this. I don't understand all the hate for it. Maybe it's because they did a celebrity collaboration and the niche lovers don't like that. That really doesn't matter to me as all I really care about it how it smells. To me it's sort of like a slightly smoky cedar that is very pleasant. At the discounted price, I don't really see how you could go wrong and if this is there worst offering, I can't imagine what there best one would be like.

Solid 7.5/10

jaydemm17

At first i didn't like it but then i realized i sprayed too much on. It soon became a very addictive scent,so much so that i bought another bottle as back up. You know what it kind of smells like to me? smoke machine smoke... like theatrical smoke. It's a very pleasant unisex scent, but not in the usual aquatic CK One style unisex. The violet is so nice and then it has a great sandalwoody dry down. Smells similar to Narciso Rodriguez for Him, another great unique frag. In the end: great smell if you want something different but not too challenging... and how can you go wrong with Comme des Garcons quality for 30 bucks? Just go easy on the trigger.

UnearthlyApothecary

I don't know why but I am liking this more and more. The violets are not as strong, the dirt is down In the base where it belongs. Powdery. Woodsy. It's growing on me.

UnearthlyApothecary

Dirt and strong violets. I am beginning to understand why this was discontinued. The snobs look down their noses at it and the average joe just doesn't get it. It is an interesting scent experience to be sure but I'm just not a fan of strong violets. Or dirt.

HeidiLynn

I'm cool with masculine scents and enjoy most of the notes listed here, but the overall composition was lacking. Started with a bracing--even strident--dose of pepper then within an hour transitioned to what I think of as 'toilet paper jasmine', that common white floral note used in scented TP; here, probably created by the neroli and lightly powdered violet. It only lasted about 3 hours and was very faint for most of that. I had sincerely hoped for more lavender, sandal and vetiver as those are some of my favorites, but didn't sniff any of them. Not complex, this is just too faint and too poorly put together. It's not male or female, and more marketing than substance.

missk

This fragrance is still relatively exclusive and expensive in Australia, despite the fact that it has been relegated to the discount stores overseas. I have tested Girl multiple times throughout the last 12 months and have always enjoyed its scent both on the skin and on a card. I do however find it a difficult fragrance to describe.

Girl is quite synthetic, in the way that it was designed to smell. It's musky, woodsy and clean. In the heart and drydown it smells of harsh Hotel soap to my nose.

I can see how this fragrance could be unisex, however I must admit that the violet note lends a feminine twist. The packaging also tends to swing towards a female buyer, in the use of blues, pinks and purples as the primary colours on the bottle.

Girl is an interesting perfume, however it is not nearly as fascinating as some other scents from CdG's range. It's less niche and more mainstream. The longevity is great, although the sillage wears more like a skin scent. I recommend testing Girl for the experience and to satisfy your curiosity.

polkadot27

I have just received my bottle of this today in the post. It is definitely masculine, like completely masculine it cannot pass for feminine at all. No one would ever assume that it were unisex, ever. However, despite being female I have own and worn male scents in the past so this does not bother me personally. To me it is very spicy, not very aromatic but very spicy with woody undertones. Lasting power is very good! Pepper and Cedar are the most dominant notes. If you are a female considering buying this, if you are against wearing male scents do not purchase this as it definitely leans towards more masculine fragrances than feminine. The silage and radiance are not particularly good considering it being so masculine in scent. I like it but it is not mind blowing- but I do not regret buying it because it is interesting ad spicy. Would I wear it if I were getting intimate with a male ? Probably not, I don't think they would appreciate me smelling more manly than themselves. It is cosy warm and spicy and when I sniff my skin hard where I have sprayed i detect some metal like woody peppery concoction which is unique that I am really fond of. Overall I like this scent it is different to the rest in my collection, is it a safe option? for a male definitely for a female no way. Is it suitable for everyday every situation use? for a female again no way. Will I wear it? Yes, I will reach for it when I want to feel warmed cosy yet rebellious simultaneously! I love the bottle the X eyes really do it for me I have no idea what the creature on the bottle is- looks like something out of spongebob?

Scent= 6.5/10
Bottle= 7.5/10
Lasting power= 7/10
Silage= 5/10

Max1985

No no no The scent is all over the place I don't even know what a small.

RJ Watson

Just picked up a 3.4 ounce (100mL) bottle for $15 at my local Marshalls, so this is a total blind buy. This particular store has a very generous return policy (even on opened fragrances), so I took a leap. (Side note: Yikes, when it launched, it was $135? Hurray for my wallet!!!!)

My first read is that it's intensely woody (cedar) and peppery (no doubt from the actual white pepper combined with an overdose of Iso E Super), a little floral from the violet and slightly powdery iris note. Although not listed in the official notes, I also get something distinctly rose-like lingering in the background, which is simply beautiful. If there's patchouli here, it's been fractionated in such a way that nothing even remotely earthy survived but I can't say that I miss it. Altogether, it's a relatively quiet number for an edp but longevity is wonderful. The descriptor of 'transparent' would be perfectly applied here.

Not overtly masculine or feminine; in fact, it reads as more of a pleasant smell as opposed to a proper perfume. Still, very nice work especially considering what I paid for it. It will get a lot of use this spring and summer because I don't own anything else like it.

(Edit: There were two $15 bottles in the clearance section at Marshalls. After a full day's wearing, I went back to the store and snatched up the second bottle.)

Skayalily

This is DRY, on me. The opening is rather scattered, mostly peppery, pleasant but directionless. Then there is almost an hour of puffs of vetiver/lavender. This feels somewhat masculine, yet remains pleasant. From there on out it's smooth dry wood with powdery florals. The blending settles in at this point and is downright gorgeous. After about 6 hours it's a skin scent, but on my skin it lasts. My 6 year old said, during a hug after I'd been wearing it over 10 hours with no resprays, "too beautiful" with a deep sigh.

Circuit FAiry

Girl - First impression on this fragrance is that its fresh, spicy and woody...tons of wood. You must love woody fragrances to be able to appreciate it. As the fragrance begins to settle I get a sweet fresh element that starts to surface. Several hours in, it changes and I get a clean soapy vibe. Violet is voted as the main note but IMO it is more of supporting note along with the iris.

The presentation and name of this fragrance are an afterthought. Confusing as it may be...the bottle has nothing to do with the fragrance and neither does the name. Honestly this stuff is wonderful but it suffered due to its poor marketing.

The juice itself has depth, it is long lasting, and has wonderful sillage. Worth a try for those who enjoy strong woody fragrances.

Curly Sherly

I decided to get this perfume bc of CdG being 'behind' it, the bottle - I do find it interesting in a very unusual way and a comparison I've read among the comments with McQueen's My Queen (as a huge McQueen fan). Firstly - I do find the perfume very pleasant, modern, wearable and with good quality. I will use up my 100ml bottle, would I re-purchase time will tell :)The My Queen comparison - yes, but only briefly in the beginning, as the scent starts to dry down they take different routes - MQ is fuller, thicker, rounder, more powdery/violety, much more on the feminine side with stronger silage and better longevity. Girl turns perfectly unisex, has dryer, dustier, spacier and more delicate dry down. Bottom line for me - yes, I enjoy it very much, will wear it and can't wait to try it in warmer climate!

Deefit

I wonder what would have happened to the ratings if this had not been branded Pharrell Williams, but Comme des Garçons? Even their perfume with scotch tape and industrial glue notes gets more love ratings than this. Is this snobbism, we're witnessing here?

Contessa01

When I spray this I get a blast of peppery citrus and cedar. Then it settles down into a creamy peppery violet. Very unique, not my style. Better as a men's fragrance maybe.

mrsg34

I really like this, I tend to avoid celebrity scents but got this for a good price and the notes are right up my street. A blast of pepper settles down to a lovely woodsy fragrance combined with patchouli, cedar and vetiver with a waft of iris. I really don't understand why this isn't more popular it's really rather lovely. It's not a girly girl perfume but it's very unisex, I'm glad I bought it before it disappears.

GrandmaGaga

Be forewarned: First blast is black pepper., but...give it a few minutes and it becomes a primarily vetiver-heavy floral scent that I think leans more towards something men would like. It's really not as bad as alot of these reviews make it out to be once you get past the name; if you are expecting something 'girly' or even 'feminine' you will probably be disappointed.

GodKing

First, just a heads-up that the gift set is currently selling for $32.50 at Macys, which consists of a 100ml bottle and travel rollerball along with free shipping. Although not a favorite, it's a very good full-bodied Comme des Garcons fragrance at a bargain price IMO. Check it out if you're interested. I just ordered a bottle since it's bargained priced.

Anyway, I sampled 'Dead Girl' perfume in the Fall of 2014 at my local Sephora. The fragrance was in the women's fragrance section and, after talking to a sales associate, it was noted that the ladies (staff and customers) did not like it because it had a very masculine opening. But I was also told the drydown was quite nice. Needless to say, I haven't seen this fragrance in the stores in at least six months.

To my nose, the opening was messy-masculine. I have heard it described as a dryer sheet...absolutely, just add a cup of fabric softener, toss in a packet and table pepper and throw in a handful of dirt and that's what I take-away during the first few minutes. I found it to be bit odd...but it was certainly masculine so it didn't bother me; certainly not like it would some of the ladies.

However, a few minutes later Girl transitioned into a decent woody, flowery, earthy scent that is very dry. I am not a fan of powdery fragrances, however 'Dead Girl' was not overly-powdery to my nose and the Iris was well-done. Conversely, I didn't detect any vetiver in this one. To my nose the resulting blend in drydown is a pleasant, warm, creamy cedarwood (smelled like a cedery sandalwood) with some violet and earthy patchouli rounding out the background. Not too shabby and better than expected. At times (fleeting glimpses) I could detect some slight similarities to something like a Bois des Isles or Trumper Sandalwood but, as I said, those moments were fleeting, at best, as Girl is oddly-unique to my scent pallet.

This fragrance projects pretty well (it doesn't push-out, but it leaves a nice scent trail on my skin) and the 3-4 times I sampled it lasted 8+ hours on my skin (I would be surprised if it didn't). Overall, I feel this scent is worth checking-out (it's a good frag) but it's not quite my style and/or I have other perfumes in this genre that I really love. C'est la vie! Moreover, since it's bargained priced it may be a good blind-buy some men and women who like a ballsy type fragrance.

Regardless, I was pleasantly surprised...really nice peppery fragrance with a loud/sharp iris note that was not overly powerdery. Moreover, the woods/vetiver and patchouli combined with the pepper and iris give Dead Girl a very nice dark/woody/spicy vibe that is lightly perfumey. While I balked at the $100+ asking price, I have no problem paying $32.50 for a bottle of this juice. And yes, the bottle is quite fugly.

atlaseetschristmas

I think when I first tried this I had a bit of a vendetta against it considering the fact that CDG is my favorite house and I despise Pharrell quite a bit. Trying it a few months later, It's actually quite nice.

I detect a dry blend of vetiver, violet, iris, dry cedar, a touch of sandalwood and a prominent fig note (despite the fact that its not listed). It's modern and clean in the same way that stephen jones is, sort of rooty-dry-floral with weird chemical detergent overtones. It starts out very strong but quickly turns to a muted slightly salty green powdered skin scent. Kind of contradictory in nature, but it is CDG afterall.

Definitely not a "must-have" from the line, but I do, however begrudgingly, enjoy this. I could see this being nice in fall or spring.

wilso55

This perfume is very unique. That's why I bought it. It is good quality, but not a safe scent. If you like floral, pepper and wood... this one will please. It will open up in that order of notes. I like pepper and smoke and wood so this is up my alley. I like new, different and interesting scents. This is not a clubbing, panty dropper, working scent. I think it's purely just for self appreciation and enjoyment.

Chicago Tony T

If the dry down were more pronounced I would at least like this. Cedar is my favorite wood but it's so light while blended with the patch and vetiver. The floral/fresh opening is boring as well. I will say that it is well blended as most of the notes can be recognized but it's a reason it has been discontinued so quickly.

AZJeff

I thought I would give this fragrance a try since I think it was on clearance through a decant vendor. I really don't like this fragrance.
First of all what I get from this fragrance is it's both pungent and sharp, and then a little floral from the Iris and Violet. Both flowers are lovely in their fragrance alone and usually do well in most fragrances but not this one.!
The fragrance note combination doesn't make sense and doesn't combine well IMO. It smells too chemical or synthetic to my nose. I don't see how anyone could like this fragrance. But I guess there's a market for everything including this fragrance.
I wonder why this design house called this fragrance "Girl"? This isn't even hardly fit for men or boys let alone ladies or even girls.
The bottle design is too plain and I don't like the name which is too plain.

BroomRider28

Easily, this is the cheapest smelling and most disgusting scent I have smelled in the last 10 years.
If the house of CdG taught Pharrell Williams that "there should be no boundaries," well, this train wreck of a cologne offers a good argument that there should be SOME boundaries.
I absolutely don't understand how anyone could like this, not even his most devoted fans.
Yes, we all have different tastes, and I'm always open for something different, but there's no denying the atrocious, overall cheapness of this cologne.
I wouldn't even call this a "drugstore fragrance" because it doesn't even rank that high.
I can't even imagine an over-the-hill, super-trashy prostitute wanting to wear this stuff.
Yes, it's that bad.
Avoid at all costs.

iMaverick

I don't know why, but this scent reminds me of D&G Light Blue for women with a muskier edge to it. I could be very wrong since I haven't smelled Light Blue for years now, but somehow Girl makes me turn my head towards its way.

I like it. I'm not quite sure if I'd wanna own a bottle right away, but nothing really puts me off about it. To describe a scent in a nutshell, it smells like a fresh musky skin cedar combination. They call it unisex, and yeah, it is, but the dude would have to hide this in the drawer if he's afraid of possible social outcasting.

glitterlust

It wears much softer on skin versus a blotter.

To me it is very smooth, floral woody powdery with a leather aspect. It shares the same vibe as another Lie creation, l'Essence Cerruti.

guillermostf

Thanks to Aeternitas! i have one bottle of My Queen by Alexander McQueen. I always thought it was an unisex fragrance. If I have to believe you, i'll keep My Queen to myself, and i won't spent that amount in Girl.

papergurl

I love iris, I love cedar, I love to be challenged. I have various niche and even several from the Chandler Burr series just to smell, my personal enjoyment. I don't wear them, but experience them. I have made several attempts because of Comme des Garcons and made it through two sample vials. This is like the Emperor's New Clothes...just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Infusion d'Iris is wearable, enjoyable, graphically iris-green. Strangely, I had used my sensual amber body butter from B&B the night before and that calmed down the pepper "spikes" a bit. The price tag, the bottle, the prickliness of the composition...well there are lots of bottles on the shelf collecting dust. The creative process is what it is all about, but they tried to market this and it doesn't seem to be what was expected. I shared with male friends and they won't touch it. Great thing is some folks do like it. I am just glad they have stopped pushing so hard, I would dodge the perfume area at my Sephora for weeks.

JaiTee

I know this is controversial, but while reading the reviews for Girl, I wish that budding perfumistas would hold-off on writing negative reviews until they've trained their nose to recognize various notes and how everything works together.

PW Girl is not your typical celebrity offering.

This perfume takes you through a journey beginning with a brisk, peppery lavender opening. It's intriguing because I'm used to lavender being sweetened up like in Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her or Caron Pour Un Homme, but instead, in Girl, it is accented by a dash of pepper.

The heart of the perfume reveals a powdery iris and violet, and just when you think PW Girl is a docile, timid creature, out comes the bitter and earthy vetiver to snap you to attention.

This stage is sharp, and one that newbies will be immediately turned-off at because typical designer perfumes don't go down this road. For a period of time, it even becomes as smokey as Chanel Sycomore on my skin. Overwhelming up close, but from arms-length, there's an airy feel to the entire piece.

In fact, it is EXACTLY like lcommisso writes in her review below -- the final act presents the airy, breezy personality of cK Be, married with an earthy, occasionally peppery ribbon running through.

This is a moody scent, so approach carefully! Not something for everyday wear, but more for the order and juxtaposition of the notes.

Longevity: about five hours on my skin.
Sillage: up to arm's length

Aeternitas

Many of you have probably never tried Alexander McQueen's My Queen perfume. It's in a purple bottle, discontinued. Believe me when I say this smells EXACTLY like My Queen. The notes in both fragrances vary, but the scent ends up coming out the same. Both embody smoky violet notes with powdery iris on top of a strong, masculine base.

I love it. The bottle is absolutely horrendous, but I suppose I can get past that. I don't know who Pharell Williams is, by the looks of it he does music. I just got this as an unexpected sample and I think it's fantastic. The contrast of florals and woody notes are like leather and lace. A peppery world of opposites.

ptilda

First there's the bottle, which has got to be the most amateur, immature, ugly, gawdawful thing ever dreamed up in the world of perfumery.

I smelled it on a strip a month or so ago and said, "he needs to stick to making music." Then was at Sephora and was talked into trying it again. I obligingly sniffed the paper and tried to give it another chance (the sales girl was quite knowledgeable this time, but was admittedly partial to iris, so that was her draw to this scent). When I ended up with a sample in my hand, I gave it one more chance on the back of my hand. This is just yucky. You might think that it's sophisticated and artsy, but it's not attractive. It's a cross between a musty basement, and grandma's old potpourri dish. I fail to understand what in the name of all things happy (pun on Mr. William's song) was going through the minds of the creators?

esteban747

It opens with an uplifting pepper, very clean, clear and citrusy.
Feels like a spring morning.
I have to admit, so far this is not as bad as I was fearing.
Then it gets green and woody, with the iris, sandalwood and vetiver. At this point it seems to be unisex. The cedar and patchouli are the last notes to arrive.
So this girl likes to play the androgynous game. It's neither girly nor entirely masculine. The dry down has a smoky aura that I don't like that much.
Still, it's better than I thought.

mademoiselle-c

Pharrell Williams' debut perfume "Girl" is neither girl nor boy. "Girl" steps beyond androgyny in to a realm of sheer bizarre and abstractness. I sprayed this perfume on myself today, and I thought of Williams Vivienne Westwood hat. One views the hat as either pure creative genius, or upon its gaze thinks "what is he thinking, that makes no statement and is just an odd choice in his ensemble." I, unfortunately, fall in to the latter category. Upon first spray, I wrinkled my nose at how complex and bitter this fragrance was. It seems to linger; it lasts and transfers itself on to any surface. I let this fragrance dry down and it did not get any better. For me, this, like the Vivienne Westwood mountie hat, is a fashion faux-pas, a bust, a "what were you thinking" moment that ends in Mr. Williams trying too hard to be creative.

fuggerone

woody and spicy with good duration and low projection, surely not worth its price tag....

ScarlettX

I really don't like it at all. It's dry, a little powdery, a little woody, spicy and bitter fragrance. The violet note is too bitter in this one and neroli makes it even sharper. Mixed with pepper and cedar, it really smells like poison.
I don't get it, what is it even supposed to be? It's called Girl, but it's actually unisex and it's even more masculine than some men's fragrances. It makes no sense at all. If it's supposed to be cool and youthful, it's just a big fail.
What a disaster!

LisaMari

I really like it, it smells like a quality perfume, has good longevity but soft sillage. Its very green, fresh, dry and savoury, like peas with a dusting of pepper.. that sounds weird but it works. I think its too 'young and hip' for me but if someone bought it for me I would wear it.

deviation

I wanted to try this perfume because I like Pharrell songs. However, this thing smells just like Nirvana black. It opens with exact same notes as Nirvana black with sandalwood note and then after 5 minutes it turns into celebrity headachey scent.

Jakemusic

I just tried this today at Sephora and I have to say this is the worst fragrance I have ever smelt. I like Pharrell a lot and follow his music but this was horrible. Sprayed it onto myself and cant get it off. Its horrible, being honest!
Rating: 1/10

ojosverdes

Tried it at Sephora and like it a lot. I think is wonderful. Will like to sample some more. It's quite woodsy and complex. Last a long time on the skin.

Vegas Pauli

To me this has a creamy milky smell with a pinch of cinnamon. Like maybe a cross between sweet horchata (the mexican sweet rice drink) with cinnamon and some soft powdery white flowers. I sprayed the back of my hand and had a friend take a sniff....he literally started gagging. I can see where this can be unisex and I do give credit for creating something different in an over crowded market, its just not cup of tea. Slightly cheap and young smelling and it has zero sex appeal or sophistication. Smells like something a high school kid would wear. Interesting and worth a sniff, but def not worth purchasing.

houstcs

I wasn't expecting much. And dont care for Mr Williams or his hats. But this is a different take on fresh grass, sorta like bubblegum and fresh grass. Worth a sample at least but overpriced

The heart is like a very weak narciso rodriguez for him edt

BringUsAShrubbery

Meh. I couldn't even really smell it... very faint powder.

Playtime

Tested it today. Liked it. It is an intriguing find on the drugstore shelf. I was also wearing Dior Homme Parfum at the same time. That was an interesting combination. It gave some edge to Dior Homme and elevated the iris in Girl. Being a female I find it completely unisex.

izogn

This is the worst perfume I have ever smelled in my life. Truly disappointed in Pharell for releasing this atrocity as a perfume. Gave me the worst headache when I smelled it at Sephora! Both the sales associate and I despised this scent. I had accidentally sprayed Angel on myself and told the SA how awful it was! She then said that Pharrell's perfume was worse. Of course I just had to be so darn curious to see what could be more unbearable than Angel. Anyway, how could anyone in their right mind wear this "Girl" crap? Other than to torture someone's olfactory system??

mister_chaz

A pleasant woody spicy scent, reminds me of some other CDG fragrances, maybe Woderwood. I like its sheer powderiness which manages to smell unisex. Very modern, urban, asexual... I quite like it.

aspida

Awesome, classy! Reminds me of Nouf and Voyage by Hermes !
Unisex!

HanamiTsukimi

Girl somehow manages to be both powdery and aromatic at the top and, in my view, leans far more masculine than unisex. Though the masculine vibe diminishes as it wears. I'm fond of lavender, so I enjoy the prominent presence of that note. There's also a strong iris note here which is probably the source of the powder.

Not good, not bad, not groundbreaking. It basically smells like a deep, dark forest. A very dry deep, dark forest. Inhaling it too closely may induce a cough.

I'll put this under "like" for lack of a more appropriate category, but I'll mentally file it under "ambivalent."

lcommisso

I am not getting any sweet out of this, just straight pepper and cedar. I feel this fragrance has an identity crisis, from the bottle (which looks more fun and sweet), the name (also indicated sweet/innocent...it would be different if it was called "woman" and not "girl") to the fragrance itself, which is leaning towards masculine seasoned woods. Based on the other reviews, all of which has different experiences, I would try before you buy. Kudos though for being complex enough that there's so many different takeaways from this fragrance.

People are going to glare at me for this, but this smells like a cheaper version of Mitsouko, at least at the opening.

EDIT: The dry down is a peppery/woodsy CK Be.

SculptureOfSoul

Anyone else think the dry down of this smells like a lighter, fresher version of Narciso Rodriguez for Him?

chillalot

The opening is very feminine slightly sweet...this did not come across as unisex...but the drydown is amazingly warm clean and fresh.. .a scent for all humans☺

genny17

When I read it was similar to Comme des garcons, I knew there wouldn't be anything girlie about it..it is purely masculine to me, mossy, dry, aromatic, without any complexity.
I know sone women will wear it, some like more masculine scents..
I would have prefered if Pharell had created two scents, one for women, one for men..those unisex scents usually lean toward masculine..and Girl surely does..
It gets a tad more floral in the base..so the base is indeed more unisex than masculine, makes me think of a drier Burberry Brit rythm, or a bit like TF Velvet orchid...
anyhow not impressed with that gender bender scent..for $90 you can find much better out there..

Eloquaint

Celebrity scents are very not my thing. I detest celebrity culture and refuse to support it with any of my money (or with the clicks of my mouse, either). But the salesgirl at Sephora (reading the reviews, they must be pushing this hard at Sephora this fall) accidentally Maced me with it, so what was I to do? Turn it into a proper review. I took a sample home.

I was very surprised. It's nice. It's reasonably interesting. It seems well-made.

So I looked it up here on Fragrantica, and lo and behold, it's a Comme des Garcons collaboration. Now everything makes sense. By no means do I like all the CdG fragrances I've met well enough to wear them, but I have found them relentlessly interesting and usually odd, which I appreciate more than I can say.

Spring leaves, flower, smoke, vetiver, weird artificial iris dry down that lingers, though I think this is a very short-lived scent, for the most part.

I won't be buying it, but it is certainly not the worst overspray experience I've had at Sephora.

chrisndema

This perfume reminds me of the smell of an eraser we used to use at school. Its' not bad at all. Its a soft peppery woody fragrance with a slight floral. I wouldn't mind a full bottle as a gift this XMas.

ellementira

This fragrance is not bad in the opening for me. Very fresh woody, with a hint of floral sweetness. But the drydown stage is unacceptable on my skin. It is 90% pepper, 10% wood-green. Sharp, stinging, biting to my nose. Nothing enticing or sexy, just bitter, dry greens. It reminds me a little bit of dry fig leaves, I'm surprised there is no fig leaf note. Perhaps it would be better suited on someone's skin who projected the iris a bit better, but on mine it's a scrubber.

MadeiraD

I would love this if it weren't the sweet notes that lend the woody, green loveliness a weird rotten quality in the opening, it dries down to a peppery, warm sweet scent with green notes, and a hint of florals in the background. What is with that opening though? eugh.

heyjudette

I'm so confused as to why so many people are hating this! It's absolutely amazing. I love my scents to verge on masculine and this does it. The floral notes jump as does the pepper; then my loves vetivert and patchouli scream through. Ok I can get why some people may be turned off by this, specifically for the incense notes, but those are my favorites. And how nice is it to see a celeb fragrance use high end notes and give us something different?

Maybelle

I tried it at Sephora. I have not smelled anything this awful in a very long time. It reminded me of the bad old days when everyone in high school wore Revlon's Charlie!

Alysha

I was surprised at this one. Tried it in sephora and I really did not like it. Definitely not a safe blind buy. Maybe it was the pepper that I didn't like. I haven't smelled anything like this before, so I wasn't expecting what I did smell. Maybe after time it gets better? My nose does not understand it at the moment.

alfarom

Being myself a Comme Des Garcons aficionado, I don't deny that the news about this collaboration with Pharrell Williams left me a bit surprised. Yes, CDG delivered a bunch of *fancy* streetwear-inspired collections in the past (especially in their *Play* line) but, for the most part, I think their aesthetic is very distant from diamond rings / earrings and revised ranger's hats. I'm surely missing something here because there must be something else beside, um, mere commercial purposes that links these two entities but, when I think about Comme Des Garcons, what immediately comes to mind is their unmistakeable drop-crotch pants or their most avant-garde / punk-ish designs. I can't help it. Bascially because that's what I always liked about the brand. I can honestly live without their doodle-style red-hearts logos.

With that said, the fragrance is nothing more than a decent spicy woody concoction with floral facets. It opens with a leafy / green violet note paired to pepper. A smooth and kind of milky accord provide a fig-like vibe and some entertaining juxtapositions between transparent notes and opaque ones. The fragrance then turns into a darker synth woody / incensey drydown that dangerously borders into plastic-y woodyamber territories. That's it.

It's nice and, depending on your tolerance to woodyambers, it's also pleasant to wear but, while feeling *smarter* than most celebuscents available on the market, it really adds NOTHING to the Comme Des Garcons roster.

All in all I would suggest this to either Comme Des Garcons novices or to the brand's completists. People who don't have a special fondness towards the brand and are simply into *interesting* fragrances, might want to look somewhere else.

Given Kaws' involvement in the design of the bottle, this might become a collector's item pretty soon.

Tried it this weekend.
On me this smells very much like sweet, sweet marzipan. It stays pretty sweet and I don't get much woodiness from this.
If this had been produced by Comptoir Sud Pacific, it would make sense, but I really don't feel de Comme des Garçons stamp here.

Four years later: I now own Girl and it has become one of my go-to scent for those days when I don't know what to wear.
That first impression of sweet marzipan is no-where to be found. It does remind me a bit of Bois de Farine

noni_345

Saw this bottle at sephora was like meh, probably just another mass pleaser then idle waiting for a sample to be made, i took a whiff n was like, wait, waa? No fruity tutti notes here.
very dry spicy, very aloof...I had to leave before I could really explore it, will definitely be back to check this out. Will I like it? it might have to grow on me but
Its definitely worth a sniff people

AmoreProfumi

I did not care for this...tried it at Sephora's was excited to finally get a chance to test it out, sprayed the strip took it to my nose && ECK! was what came out...I said ooo really Pharrel?! No!...based on the notes I thought I was really going to like this no...&& this being labeled unisex it smells way to masc. Just spice you get so much of the pepper note...I mean hey I'm sure this is a very nice scent to the right person && if you like a nice peppery scent this will be up your alley, however not my cup of tea, can't really comment on sillage & longevity && to note the bottle looked a lot cheaper in person. If you're interested I say deff. try it out first.

Overall: 6/10 (+ for teaming with CDG && the bottle art)
