My mom wore this fragrance for the majority of my developing life. Just today, she repurchased it after years and years of not wearing it -- such a cozy and nostalgic scent. Now, this isn’t vintage by any means but it still carries the essence of perfumes from the 00’s when everything was notably more potent (more concentrated possibly?) and longer-lasting. Upon the initial spray, it's remarkably peppery, but it swiftly settles into a comforting blend reminiscent of violets and jasmine-infused baby powder. The warmth it exudes is quite literal; it leaves your wrists feeling heated after application (I have no idea why that is).

When I think of "femininity", I think of Ultraviolet. Moreover, the bottle is absolutely adorable. It’s like a fidget toy.

Zoia Collison

I was surprised when saw how many different notes are in this fragrance. To me it's huge bouquet of white flowers. Strong long lasting fragrance. Really like it.

jlog23

I get a blueberry type smell! It's unique, but not good enough for a full bottle.

Aeiris81

I find it quite fascinating in spite of the pepper note which I don't usually like. But it works wonders here. I can smell both violets and apricots, who would have thought peppery notes would be such beautiful link? (Obviously monsieur Cavallier did😊). Genius. It is soft and powdery and purple but with an edge. Very early aughts, club smoke, lights and glitter. Love love love it.

Rosiewebber

This is a soft scent. I get lots of sweet apricot and very powdery violets, not much pepper or anything else really. It’s feminine, inoffensive, very 1999, but I think it holds up.

mooshi

This smells exactly like what I imagine the colour purple would smell like, specifically the colour of the bottle. It reminds me of what Prince would smell like in his "1999" photoshoot. It smells very abstract and unique, sharp yet powdery. If you want to smell like Aladdin Sane got thrown down a chimney filled with violet smoke and came out looking like Grace Jones, then buy this perfume.

medusa666

Metallic blend with a peppery touch, very different fragrance of its own kind. It is not as powdery as described though it is of a complex scent and leaves a 'youthful' trail behind. It can be worn in spring and summer and lasts for days!

Saveria

Ultraviolet, a perfume that I got as soon as it came out and which I surprisingly really liked.

It smells like powdery violets, chili peppers and far more, but I find it so well done that I can't really find all the notes. An astonishing perfume, whether by its smell or by its totally futuristic bottle (looks a bit like a spaceship), and then the purple tint; very attractive to me who loves this color.

It's a sparkling but ageless fragrance, I wore it very very young but I wouldn't mind wearing it now. A perfume created by Jacques Cavallier who is also the author of other little wonders (like Hot Couture which is one of my favorite perfumes, Alchimie, Poême and many others) and which became rare to smell in the crowd. In short, it has everything to please.

If it was a monument, it would be Casa Batlló in Barcelona ; ultra original, surprising and pleasant.

I don’t like ultraviolet I received it as a gift and found it very spicy and dry. I’ve never liked powdery fragrances it’s just not me I wear it only on the BLUEST Mondays I’ve received compliments when wearing it though and it does last a while but I find it hard to finish the bottle.

nukleo777

My wrist smells like flowers and my neck like spices. Warm winter spices. This perfume has unique transformation as time passes. Imagine a bad girl baking spicy bread. I love the bottle and the colors but I do not like the way the spray works. Not misty enough.

KleinenFuchs

Warm and long lasting, I had it before 24 years…

mono9

As others before me, Ultraviolet is the epitome of my youth. Nothing stood out for me from those times, not Angels, Poisons, Rush etc. but just this one. Even years later, having niche perfumes from brands all around the world, as a middle aged woman I still come back to this one from time to time. Maybe it is just nostalgia but I also know that I haven't come across anything similar.

Perfect10Tara

Space age digital violet that packs a big purple punch! Absolutely beautiful - it's sharp yet smooth and smells delightful. I wore it when it was first released. It's got that lovely zing that I get from all the perfumes I have loved over the years. Stunning. My nose isn't good enough to pick up every note but I definitely detected a fluffy tone in there which must be the peach. The violets sing! 🍑💜

alecsandrally

This used to be my signature scent back in high school,in the 2000’s.I always got so many compliments on this perfume, even my best friend got one because she loved how it smelled on me,but didn’t love it so much on her. With my body chemistry it just smells great.Back then I didn’t know about season perfumes so to me smelled great all tear tound, even in the summer.
Even if now I’m in my 30’s and I love louder perfumes,I always have a bottle of this one as I still love it,even after 15 years,I just don’t reach for it as often.Still a great perfume in my opinion❤️

LadyT33

I love the unique bottle and the gorgeous purple juice. Looks like something Bowie would have worn in the 70’s. I wore this in the late 90’s when it came out. Revisited her in 2022 and I still love her! She’s a peppery violet delight!

CallistoLuna

Bought this perfume back when it was first released. Forgot about it for about 20 years....rececently bought a new bottle after reading it had been re-released. I don't know if it is exactly the same, but takes me back to the year 2000❤️ I used to wear it in my 20s, but still works for me today. I wouldn't wear it everyday, but it is now part of my rotation. Interesting and unique.

lauravladelena

Even if there is a slight hint of spiciness, I would say this is a muted violet scent. It's ok, wearable but nothing impressive. I would see this worn to a casual Friday at work.

callmemother

my mom bought this for herself, when i tried it my first impression was „it’s really giving ultraviolet“ like it can’t remind me of any other color than something purple. It’s not a parfume i’d personally buy or wear. Reminds me of old people scents a bit and i mostly smell coriander lol

selinacat

This is such a weirdo I love it. Down to earth, but chic. Sporty but creamy. Fresh but calming. Sweet but spicy. There is something that gives off flanker vibes but I couldn't tell you what it reminds me of. It's musky but clean. It's complex yet utterly basic. I wish this was all hyperbole, but it's not.

If you're a weirdo, this could be a great "safe" scent. When I wear it, I feel like I fit in, disquised amongst the normal people. It's work appropriate yet cool enough for a rock concert! I'm serious, it's that unusual.

My one complaint, is the bottle. The large looks like a DKNY counterfeit, and the 30ml is literally a child's plastic Easter egg. The worst part, is it has such a satisfying nozzle, I feel like a sexy secret agent in space, after I struggle through popping off the cheap child's toy cap.

Mona Lygre

I tested this perfume back in 1999, and it was love at first sniff!

It looks like an alien spaceship, and, the smell of it makes me happy, I'm so seduced,

I went to the perfumery a lot of times just to sniff this beautiful perfume, but, I was a single, poor mother than, and I couldn't afford to buy it, but finally, after all these years, I got my hands on it in a lucky swap some 5 y ago,

I love the silky smooth pepper in it, it's soapy, powdery, flowdery, and jummi, and I think it's perfect to wear for everybody in the whole world, and milky way and the rest of the Universe!!!

Mthrofwaterdragons

I blind bought this recently from Fragrancenet, after reading about it on here. I really enjoy it. The atomizer on it is not great, so it comes out in droplets at first, you have to finagle it to spray in a mist. You can waste a little like that.
So this really reminds me of Mojave Ghost from Byredo. You're going to have a sweet, violet, apricot, creamy and lactonic mid and base with this. Your drydown, scent bubble, are going to be beautiful lactonic goodness. If that's not your vibe, do not get this.

krmarich

After years of reluctance and fear of a stinker, I tracked down an original release. I grew up on and love Paco Rabanne fragrance since 1980. I love violets! It had never been used in a Paco Rabanne fragrance before. Many reviewers seem to love it. So here goes nothing! 24 years after its release.

I love the little purple case and the egg-shaped bottle. The perfume is a very pale violet. I gave it a spray. I loved the fruity peppery opening. The candy like violet is obvious. Its a wonderful tasty treat in the trendy gourmand parade following Star and Lolita Lempica. After about 40 minutes it gets really dry and crispy clean. It's very fresh and osmanthus takes over with the apricot. The sweetness is completely gone. I think iris or lilac would have kept the violet alive longer. It get no excitement from the original spray and frankly, the heart is about a boring as it gets.

Then as the drydown sets in comes this peculiar "aromachemical" that reminds me of an e-cig cartridge. It has a trace of oakmoss, vetiver and patcholi that somehow clash on the rosewood cedar woody base. Perhaps it's the odd vanilla note that is a little too sweet. PR fragrances have always been about pushing the envelope on note composition as early as Calandre. This one smells better on my coat sleeve than my skin.

I cannot say this is a love for me. Time may change things...

Betsywoolbright

I found a good deal on a partial bottle of Ultraviolet, and it arrived today. I am disappointed to be disappointed by it. My SOTD was vintage Insolence, which is violet overdose. But with Ultraviolet, I can barely even detect the eponymous violet.

Instead, my skin amplifies the apricot. I mostly smell apricot and osmanthus, with only hints of violet, coriander, pepper, and other flowers. Apricots and peaches rarely work on my skin; I was hoping the apricot would play a supporting role here, but it's actually the most prominent. There is something about this use of apricot that reminds me of the Chloe Narcisse pure parfum in the tiny bottle (which is practically an apricot solinote perfume on my skin as well).

I'll almost certainly be re-selling. I don't hate it; I just don't think it works for me. There's enough love for Ultraviolet, though, that I'm sure I can find it a good home.

Mariapiza

Ultraviolet is a unique and abstract fragrance that lives up to its name. It's hard to describe, but it has a "digital" quality that's captivating. I've been wearing it since 20010, and it still gives me goosebumps. The initial blast is peppery and green, with a powdery violet and coriander note. As it dries down, it becomes a spicy, green, and vegetal scent with rose and osmanthus. The layers blend together to create a scent that lasts for days, but stays close to the skin. Ultraviolet is my favourite fragrance, and it always will be. I remember admiring it as a kid and feeling luxurious whenever I sprayed it on. It's sweet, but not the usual sugary scent. It's a sci-fi heroine kind of scent that stands the test of time. I agree that it's not a safe blind buy, but it's truly wonderful.

Vanillastorm40

Ooofff, this is awful. Scratchy black pepper is all I get from this. Was really hoping to like this especially because I've had great experiences with many Paco Rabanne frags (Olympea Legend, Exces L'Exces, etc.) but this is a hard no for me. Straight up black pepper, no thank you.

Yellowmoon

Ugh!! I'm so confused...I've bought this twice now dt all these glorious reviews..thinking maybe the first time I just got a bad batch...but no!!! Both times nothing but white soap!! I'm so jealous of y'all !

Tony Shades

One of the prettiest and most romantic violets on the market, which is not dusty powdery like many others in the category, but soft smooth creamy velvety. I find it adorable.

Nil3

True classic yes !
Wearing it today with PRIDE!!!!!!

Skinscents4Fusspots

Holy S! Why has it taken me so long to get this stunner back in my collection?! I had this when it first came out and loved it! Such a modern violet scent in 1999 and it still is! It used to come in a plastic container so you could safely keep it on your desk - it's a bit of a shame you don't get the cool case anymore as this bottle is a pain to store!

I get violet and apricot with a sweet creamyness from the almond and vanilla. I definitely get a hint of sweet pink rose too. I get more red pepper / chilli than black pepper and very little (if any) patchouli. Not much wood at all, maybe a warmth from rosewood. Slightly powdery but not old fashioned at all. A true classic!

Fenissa

One of the very few perfumes I have tested in store and made the decision to turn around and buy it when I had only walked the length of two shops away. I turned on my heels, went straight back and bought it. I'm now on my third 80ml bottle which is a lot for me as I have a collection of over 400 fragrances and rarely get through any bottles. It really is that good.
What I love most about it is how unusual it is, and how it has stood its ground every bit as much as Mugler Angel or Alien. It could be a Mugler as it is still so unique. It should be a Mugler because it feels futuristic and otherworldly. The purple hue of the juice really suits the ultraviolet aesthetic.
I will always love it.
Performance is exceptional. I easily get over 10 hours wear. Silage is moderate to strong. A very worthy addition for anyone who enjoys Violets.

Dzai

This one stands out for me. I have not smelt anything like it yet. Its sweet AND clean at the same time without being overwhelming in sweetness or in cleanness. it is a very balanced fragrance. Very long lasting. It lasts more than 10 hours on my skin. Its on the synthetic side but a pleasant synthetic if that makes sense. Overall a good fragrance.

malikun

I definitely liked this scent, when I tested in Duty Free but my only question is what did it remind me of? I have looked at the reminds of section here but still, nothing rings a bell. After searching by notes I think it is similar to Kenzo Flower..might need to buy a full bottle to check again :)

medusa666

It is a beautiful, peppery-floral fragrance that needs to be explored and appreciated with patience. It classifies as a 90s scent with a metallic note, a true Paco Rabanne's signature in most of their original perfumes. Nowadays, each new fragrance that comes out is a copy of another. This one is definitely one of its kind.

Isadudman

I've been in love of this fragrance since I was 18 yo. Is fresh, spacy and floral. Long-lasting.

wondervalley666

I had high hopes for this one. It's nice, and has a certain appeal, but it isn't for me. The opening is a bit loud and reminded me of acetone/nail polish remover, which made me wonder if my bottle turned. That evaporated quickly, leaving me with a scent that smells like J del Pozo's Halloween EDT, with some added unique spicy top notes. It almost reminded me of some of the spicy top notes in JPG's La Belle Le Parfum, but more bitter and dry in Ultraviolet while La Belle Le Parfum is very sweet. It smells... good! But it's so weak. I require stronger scents than most people. My skin eats fragrance, I live in a windy dry heat climate that evaporates and blows away whatever scent I apply. Ultraviolet would require me to reapply every hour or two to get it to last. If I lived in a cooler climate with humidity, I might like this a lot. But for where I am now, this perfume doesn't cut it. It would be a great scent for office workers, as it sticks close to the skin. I found the same performance issue with Ultrared as well.

AuthenticAF

I really enjoy this even though it does feel synthetic. I definitely smell pimento and red pepper. It smells very modern to me even though it was released a long time ago. It is great for keeping in a beach or gym bag to spritz for a refreshing feeling. The bottle is also great for travel, it feels indestructible! This is bright and happy and fun.

AquaJima

After reading the reviews I knew this was next on my “to try” list.

All I got was a sweet violet with a soft powder note in the background. I went back and sprayed myself all over and still… a very soft candy powder like violet. Like the violet candy you find in vintage pharmacies, but super weak to the point it goes unnoticed. Nothing exciting, groundbreaking or particularly memorable (for me).

I am not saying it doesn’t smell good, because it does, but the best part about this one is the beautiful holographic bottle.

This is my issue: my mom wore a violet perfume. And that violet was pure, profound and glorious. After having that olfactory memory I expected a lot from this… and I found it really underwhelming in comparison. So maybe, if you don’t have strong association to the violet note you might really love this.

I don’t get “Millenium, modern, digital, futuristic, intoxicating, groundbreaking” is just… nice.

stacia79

Just as weird as you think it'll be.. IN ALL THE BEST WAYS. I had a sample of this years ago and it was one of those samples where I immediately knew I'd be getting a bottle. I went through several bottles of Ultraviolet, actually. For me, it doesn't actually smell like any of the listed notes. If I had to pick notes, I would say it's spiced apricots and violets. It smells like a new toy. It smells like a sexy outfit. It smells like clubbing. It smells like wasted youth. This is extremely unique, you will get noticed and you won't smell like anybody else. I had to give it a rest because it was becoming too reminiscent for me of a different era of my life that I am happy to leave in the past (the clubbing days). But if you're serious about expanding your perfume repertoire, just get this. It fills a space in your wardrobe you didn't even know existed. Don't overthink it... if you happen to not like it, I guarantee someone you know will be more than happy to take it off your hands.

Maenad1

I bought this fragrance when it first came out, and more than 20 years later, it's still part of my collection. To me it seemed like a "night out clubbing" kind of fragrance. Kind of sexy, musky, spicy, attention-seeking -- you can imagine this fragrance complementing mixed drinks, hairspray, cigarette smoke. But years later, when I'm way past any desire to go clubbing, I still find Ultraviolet very wearable. This seems to be a polarizing fragrance -- people either love it or hate it. What I like about it: It lasts a long time on my skin and has fairly good sillage without being loud, nauseating or obtrusive. I get whiffs of it all day, but it smells soft and clean, not sharp. On me this start out with a dose of pepper, but within a half hour to an hour the pepper smooths out and settles down, and then it's mostly a musky, fruity violet. The drydown is lovely -- clean and musky, maybe even a little bit like soap or bubble bath. Ultraviolet may appear at first glance to be a weird sort of fragrance, but in truth it's a scent you can wear in almost any setting, and it's certainly a fun bottle to keep on your dresser, whether you have the "egg" or the "spaceship."

the_gunner

This is everything I wished insolence would be, it's sweet yet spicy (like ginger and honey drink, I mean the vides 😁), it's make-upy yet not over powdery, it's strong yet soft.
it's very confident and fun.
I absolutely LOVE it as you can tell!
also, I wanted to say that I get a very nice banana note, could be my nose confusing the Osmanthus note .

Rose du soir

Sweet and icy. Ultraviolet reminds me a little bit of candies sold for the throat at pharmacies. The violet note has an almost minty quality, even though there's no mint in this fragrance. With time, it gets warmer and a tiny little bit powdery, while still being fresh and summery. It's a cold and futuristic scent, and also at the same time strangely familiar and carefree, reminding me of the early 2000s. This is what a pretty alien girl would smell like.
Marked as soon discontinued on Paco Rabanne France.

Healthy scents

This one is such a staple! I've been loving it since early 2000's and still love it the same way if not more.
The best violet fragrance, hands down!👌

violetelle

This is so light, pretty and enchanting. It’s slightly sweet but also metallic, in a good way. You can tell this is from 1999. It feels modern, fresh and optimistic. The pepper and violet in this are really fresh. Overall, it’s a really pretty, fresh, interesting and lovely scent. Very feminine and clean - a compliment getter. I wear this to the gym or for running errands in the spring.

FutureKiwi

I was expecting something tough, stereotypical "sexy": oriental, sticky sweet, unbearable. I imagined it as a perfume for a diva - like for Carlotta from The Phantom of The Opera. I thought it smells loud, kind outrageous. Now here I am, sniffing my wrist, laughing to myself. I was so wrong! On my skin it's a fresh, powdery fragrance that projects in such a interesting way. I appreciate freshness without citrus - and this is it, probably due to violet notes. I also do get anise - but it's not listed. This is cooling, super fresh fragrance, I'd gladly wear it in the Summer. This is the first Paco Rabanne scent that I truly enjoy. This is so joyful, I'm feeling so much more optimistic wearing it.

theuntrainednose

I have a small sample.

---

A fresh powdery floral and sweet scent. Smells like you have just showered with a good shower gel, and are now wrapped in fresh and fluffy terry towels. Cute.

Edited to add: perfectly fine, though I think I prefer other powdery fragrances I have tried. For me, an Okay scent. If you enjoy powdery scents, try it, it may be more your style.

Calliope blue

Great and unique, all year around signature scent. Nice, floral, slightly sweet, woody and little bit spicey scent . Very well blanded parfume. 👌😊

CalamityJai

Ultraviolet smells like Alien if Alien didn't punch you in the nose. Much softer and more wearable version for me :)

Lumoava

Sounds interesting and I often see it sold for a very good price. Tempted to blind buy.
Is there any resemblance to Jesus del Pozo Halloween?

Siljemariyeah

Haven't worn this for years, since I didn't love it six years ago. But I put it on again a few days ago and enjoyed it a lot more. My boyfriend said it smells like an enchanting witch forest 😂 He hasn't seen the color or the bottle. Just had to share that comment.
Will be back for a review.

autobus25

I just get this perfume. I must say, it's not love at first spray. I love alot the Paco Rabanne perfumes so I decided to find something a little more fruity with violet. I just get a question: where's are the violets? The roots maybe.... On me I get to overspray to have a 4 hours. So, considering I searched for that because it's rare where I live, I'm disappointed. The bottle is nice, the scent will do the job to go to sleep but I will think if I'm keeping that.

Ellsa

Dusty+ sickening powder. The only things I like about this are: the bottle and the name. I bought this from mistake, I wanted something else but somehow because of an confusion I took this also together with others. On my way home, in the car, this smell was still on my hand and I was thinking that I’m so glad I didn’t choose this because smells so bad and dusty but surprise: when I arrived home this was in my shopping bag😭😭. The performance is insane because I tried sooo hard to remove this from my hand and only on the third wash and after a hand lotion I could barely remove the scent from my skin.

Marie76

Well, first things first, this does not have violets in it. If you smell them, you are imagining them. It's a complex fragrance, fresh but with a peppery note that gives it heat, it's flowery and green but smells somewhat more chemical/unnatural. It has a wonderful projection and staying power, the dry down varies from day to day depending on what your body is like that day, in that aspect this perfume is absolutely bizarre. It reminds me of the 90's. It's free and careless but full of character It's not too feminine, I'd say it's almost unisex, it's fresh, wearable and interesting. On offer now so I've stocked up, I often wear it in the summer.

Miss_Nathalie

Bought it recently again and it still smells exactly the same as when i wore it in the 90's!
Its an unique scent. Its sweet, powdery, floral and a bit of sharpness. Its hard to discribe but I love love love the dry down.

SailorV

I doubt that violet would be the highest voted note on this site if it wasn't for the name of the fragrance. It's there, but this is quite different from the usual violet perfumes. If you expect a realistic violet, you might be disappointed. Ultraviolet isn't named after the flower after all, but after a part of the light spectrum that isn't visible to the human eye.
This concept, together with the fact that Ultraviolet was created in 1999 and comes in a then-futuristic bright purple bottle, describes the scent well. It is abstract, intentionally synthetic, almost otherworldly and neon bright. It has a similar vibe to Gucci Rush and also shares some notes with it. They're not the same though, and while I love both, I think Ultraviolet is a little less in-your-face and therefore easier to wear.

To my nose the main note in this is osmanthus. Smooth and cool, almost sterile, but also fruit-tinged, with a texture somewhere between suede and plastic. Dewy light violet and a very slightly soapy rose create a cold floral bouquet, while apricot amps up the fruitiness and adds a hint of lactonic notes. Red and black pepper notes add a fiery, spicy warmth. Vanilla, amber and patchouli constitute a substantial base and make Ultraviolet an intense, long-lasting scent.

This is surely not for everyone, but if you have a soft spot for the late 90s and aren't afraid of some obviously artificial notes, I highly recommend this. I find it quite artistic and unique, but also flirty and sexy and still modern.

indigo

This is really quite nice. I think the name Ultra violet is very apt because it does not really smell “natural” to me - I don’t mean that as a criticism tho’ - because it smells good, but very modern imo (in the general perfume scheme of things, that is)

I can’t pick out most of the individual notes, it’ opens sweet violet mostly with fruity osmanthus on me. In the dry down I sense the almond more & the vanilla. It gives me a tiny touch of a Hypnotic Poison type vibe. I don’t like HP, but here it’s not at all so strong that it puts me off & it’s not too sweet either. The violet isn’t really that prominent (imo) in the dry down. Overall to me feels quite nicely balanced, I think. Longevity is excellent.

I bought this blind on line because I currently crave some violets. Insolence EDP went out of stock in the few days between me putting it in my “basket” & going to checkout! It’s not like Insolence, but I do like it a lot & it is a very pleasant surprise. It wouldn’t surprise me if this has a quiet but very loyal following, because I think I’ve smelled it before. A Paco Rabanne sleeper, bit like Calandre.

I have to say, I hate the atomiser. It squirts a thin piddly jet of perfume. I feel if it sprayed a nice fine mist it would wear much more nicely & give a better experience...maybe that’s just me tho.

rihabi

This one is primarily violet smelling as the name stands, although there are mainly floral notes, I would reccommend the fragrance for this season. It just has some winter vibe, sweet and cozy. No pepper and spicy notes whatsover detected, although they are listed here.

RosaMilena

Blast of herby spicy no sweetness at all. No violets per se here for me until the very end of the drydown. Too many salad dressing herbs and no sweetness. It's like a non-sweet gourmand salad dressing herbal mix on my skin. Scratchy and dry. Off putting. Very weak barely floral-ish drydown. I don't hate this but I don't want to smell like this. It smells like something I would add to my salad dressing. I might want to eat it as a garnish in soups or salads......just not as perfume.

JolieSucre

This is a wonderful, truly understated and rarely worn perfume (hurray for individuality and wearing something special!) that I have been wearing since 2014 or so. Would never get tired of it, as it is unique, potent and really, really sexy.

The name 'ultraviolet' might be deluding, as I cannot detect any clear violet scent in this. It is mostly clean berries (not sugary, not sour), sweetness, and florals - the color 'violet'. Not a great description, but you can feel what the color violet should smell like. However, if more experienced and knowledgeable reviewers mention violets, then they must be there.

The perfume is very unique, it belongs to that category of scents that you remember as it cannot be mistaken for anything else - to me, other similar perfumes are Eden by Cacharel, J'Adore, Alien, Light Blue etc. They are their own scents and can be detected right away. This is one of those. To me it was never a matter of love and hate, I love it at the first sniff, but for those into aquatic, fresher or green notes, this might not be the perfect choice.

EDIT: I forgot to add that I find it has a similar vibe to Gucci Rush. It is similar as well, but sweeter, with a bit more iris, I would say. Rush is fruity, this one is flowery, but they are similar. Cousins, not sisters, but definitely in the same family.

gtabasso

Smells like a lot of other vintage fragrances of the genre and does go on a bit bitter and sour and ugly then fades into a soft, sweet kind of watered nothingness. Not real impressed. I have a vintage bottle. Mostly apricot, pimento and coriander with a little soft quality that isn't a violet powderiness or candied. There's a touch of rose and some dry rosewood. Almost reads like a white musk on my skin. And then about an hour later everything changes and settles into this sweet, soft, pretty, gentle, fruity-floral violet fragrance. Very close to the skin. Is it the best violet out there? No. It's nice, but nothing special. I could live without it in my collection. But I don't dislike it as much as I did in the top and middle. It's pretty, but getting there took too much effort.

After watching video clips and reading many positive reviews, I went ahead and bought Ultraviolet (in spite of being in an indulgent and dangerous fragrance spending spree.) It arrived a couple of days ago, and I tore into the packaging like a 6 yr old on Christmas morning. I spritzed my wrists and much to my chagrin, the top notes had this deafening scream, and I thought for sure I'd made a boo-boo. But then about 10 mins. in, this very graceful, lythe, soft and pretty scent wafted so gently by. I was so relieved, as most mistakes don't do a sudden 180, or at least not for me. It's now 24 hrs later and I can still smell that beautiful scent, which surprisingly for me, isn't stale at all. I guess with age, my skin now eats fragrance, and I usually need to layer with the matching body cream to have staying power, but I won't need to with Ultraviolet. It's made a passing grade and I'm definitely hooked. Ultraviolet has earned a spot as a top 10 contender.

ppneta

É um perfume para mulheres a partir dos 55 anos! Mulher madura que gosta de coisas diferentes!

sara lii

Every time I spray it, it gives me all these flashbacks from 99/00. I love it!!

panda12345

Great parfüme also not very common and popüler it is secret treasure. Smells very clean and elegant only bottle and sprayer is not good

amywamywoo

Feminine floral (but not overly so), the peppery/spicy edge helps to keep it interesting. It's playful and sexy, even though its fairly linear and synthetic I still like this a lot. I find it quite unique, I can identify this on others in a heartbeat.

If you enjoy Gucci Rush, (and you also like violet's) I think you'll like this. It shares a similar vibe.

The purple liquid in a UFO!
Ultraviolet certainly smells like its name, as silly as that sounds, its a smell but its just so abstract and unusual that it doesn't really smell like a perfume, it smells sort of "digital"
My current bottle is from 2006 and is made in France, however, the bottle i got bought for a birthday present was made in Spain. The scent on me opens up similarly to how PR Pour Elle does; strong peppery and green, this initial blast had my hooked from the off, it then dries down into a rosey/spicy, green and vegetal scent and I am yet to find anything that even remotely replicates this scent. I mainly smell the pepper, some violets in the background which gives a powderiness and coriander, theres also some rose mixed with osmanthus, it all layers up nicely to create this "digital" abstract scent, it lasts for hours, days even, but it does stay close to the skin which I like, its quite "come hither" so to speak.
Ultraviolet gives me goosebumps every time I smell it, and thats after 10+ years of wearing it, I adore it, this scent is what the 2000's smell like, it will always be my favourite <3

fairyfart

Ah this one takes me back to the early noughties. Back when it was all massive flares, Buffalo boots and very small lycra tops. Rave had gone mainstream. I was young and stupid enough to be hopeful. What a time, uh?

This is a very strange perfume. There's something recognizably Paco about it. It's pretty and feminine but ethereal, different. A chemical quality which I like. Lots of violet. Hint of amaretto biscuits. It's fun. It's addictive. Bought a bottle the other week and I'm really enjoying the nostalgia. Yay 00s! Thanks for everything.

Coquita

Powdery bell peppers and a bit of coriander, that's it for me. Couldn't go beyond the first half an hour, as I really hated the bell peppers' note and had to wash it off. Not my kind of fragrance.

1/10

Charess

An interesting perfume. Powdery, floral and a bit weird if I may say that. The pepper, orange pepper and coriander is just too much. It smells very purple. Purple powdery flowers with fresh spicy pepper and I get some honey? The drydown is a bit creamy. I get no patchouli, amber or woods. A happy fragrance that keeps a bit mysterious. Interesting, but not for me.
Sillage is moderate-heavy and longevity is 6-7 hours.

Methi

Beautiful my first fragrance

meliecat

Violet, peppers, fruit, musk - in that order. And amber! On my skin it`s not powdery at all, and I wouldn`t classify it spicy either..It probably counts as a vintage by now, but it still smells unreal, I mean it`s really unique, enigmatic, inexplicable..but easy to wear all year round. Slightly unisex - just like its male counterpart - probably due to the peppers, which are present on me mainly in the first half an hour. Fantastic fragrance, and the bottle is something different too!A real classic in my book, but might not work for everyone..

justfloral

Crushed leaves of black elderberry (distinctive peppery scent) + European blueberry (billberry) + blackberry.

Pez_Enelrio

It is funny people here comment it to be an aquarius scent, because a friend of mine who had it before me is also Aquarius. I am not very happy to be trapped in zodiac's stereotype because im a Pisces and i am usually advised to wear watery and light scents and still sometimes I enjoy more spicy ones.

blackmartini

I remember when I first discovered this as a kid, it was one of my very first scent crushes and I would spray some on every time I would swing by the perfume shop. It felt like a real luxury as I couldn't afford it (or any other fragrance for that matter).

I finally bought myself a bottle a couple of months ago and it still smells exactly like in my memories. Makes me feel like a sci-fi heroine whenever I wear it. Ultraviolet is sweet, but not your typical run-of-the-mill sweet sugary crowdpleaser and really stood the test of time.

It is truly wonderful, although I agree with people saying it is not really a safe blind buy.

Ultraviolet by Paco Rabanne:

One must Truely Love Violet in a perfume to really appreciate this gorgeous perfume & personally I love Violets!! This is very much in the same group as the original Lolita Limpicka,The only difference being that the latter as a strong Liquorice note which I find intriguing!! On The First spray of Ultraviolet I get a cozy almost fizzy Peach smell, followed by a warm Peppery aroma & then bam my favourite part the Violet makes herself present as she dances now all the way through the fragrance, like a beautiful Ballerina gracefull & free!! The dry Down is indeed very different to the fizzy sweet Peachy start,As by this stage the Peach note is all gone & It's a Woody warm note that now takes the centre stage pushing the Violet into the back ground, before they both magical dance together & form another truely marvellous aroma!! This Fragrance sure has many different facets & each stage of It's development absolutely intriguing!! Kind of like Guerlains Insolence which is another winner for me & I Absolutely Adore!! So if you like the other two Perfumes that I've mentioned in this review you really will also love Ultraviolet!! When this Perfume was first launched there really wasn't any other Violet Perfume that could match It's intensity or It's make-up!! Even yet I find this little beauty intriguing & the UFO bottle design certainly unique & it does take a little while to master it,but once you do It's rather well worth it!! I Also find the silage & lasting power extremely good at sixteen + hours!! & when I wear it the compliments always come rolling in!! So yes for me Ultraviolet is a true winner indeed!!

Twizzler

I don't really think this is a safe blind buy and this is definitely one that's completely different from start to drydown.

Based on the reviews this is totally different from what I expected. First spray is a strong floral violet and the pepper comes out shortly after. A short time later it's a fruity-powdery pepper apricot. As it dries down more the apricot gets more and more prominent till your left smelling like a bowl of sexy spicy fruit loops.

Midnight Lady

I get a lot of violets drown in synthetic and heavily sweet vanilla. There's a small sign of black pepper and cedar wood, but the unbearable sweetnes of this scents makes it difficult to detect other notes.

I believe it has lots of fans, but for me this is synthetical sugar juice.

perfumeglam87

Over $30 a bottle. This fragrance is way to light and weak. I can barely smell it. I get little breezes of it throughout the day. The violet and pepper is all I get as well. To me this is a fresh light summer fragrance, it's not as heavy as you think. Also reminds me of the bvlgari omnia fragrances..Just light and fresh

CasuallyFragrant

This was my signature scent during my teens and early 20's.
I've recently repurchased and even though it's been discontinued for a few years my bottle smells exactly how I remember it - a beautiful violet overload!

One must love violets to love this scent. I also get a slightly spicy almond vanilla in the background, but center stage is the violet.

I'd definitely recommend getting an older bottle while they are still reasonably priced online. A rather safe blind buy for those who love Lolita Lempicka (original) or Guerlain's Meteorites powder.

Krupp

I got a good offer on this violet UFO, so I bought it. The shape of the bottle requires quite a portion of luck for you not to get the spritz in your face, but I managed the art after some trials.

Was it worth the efforts (and eye washing!)?? Yes, absolutely.

It is a rather heavy scent, a night scent, a club scent, an attractive take-my-breath-away scent, a sexy scent. So I gave it to my wife! And when she wears it, I love to put my nose to her neck and fill my nose and lungs with this seductive nectar.

biki

The bottle looks cool but it is a bit frustrating. I can't add much but agree with those who feel hints of carnation and those who notice fruity nuances. Definitely not light. Like it. Moderate to good sillage.

katemax

I blind bought this and immediately regretted it as the opening is not good. However after half an hour I get the sweet violet powdery scent and I love it! I've worn it exclusively for 3 days now.

UnearthlyApothecary

As soon as I smelled this I realized I have smelled it or something very similar before and I love it! Despite all the Pepper and coriander I actually don't get very much spice... at least not as much as I expected.I get strong sweet violet, a little anise and almond. Ultraviolet is strong and powdery yet slightly creamy. There is nothing natural smelling about this one, it's quite synthetic but very smooth, unique and wonderful regardless. UPDATE: I could still smell this on my skin the next morning, so it passes my longevity test

karishma_sk

my signature scent... period

nerdyrockstar

I don't know what the f happened to the formula or to my nose, but when I finally sprayed a new 30 ml Ultraviolet "egg" on me, I almost got knocked out by the strong and very sharp peppers.
I used to have a small tester of Ultraviolet back in the 2000 and it smelled like a soft, mysterious, violet mist or cloud that surrounded you after you sprayed it. Like suede or velvet.
Now it's very in-your-face-peppers, that luckily soften after a couple of minutes and the violets start to appear, still very recognizable, noticeable and nice, but more "flat" then I remember.
I wonder if it's just my idealizing memory or a real thing.

refikama

Groundbreaking for its time. It was the next brand new thing after Poison.

Revontuli

I cannot find enough words to describe this fragrance. I have a feeling that it's much underrated, but on the other hand, maybe that's better. It smells so unique; it goes so deep through my senses, like opium, like an aphrodisiac. Dark and sexy, even gothic. It lives up to its name in every sense; it's just "ultra", in a positive way.

moonbloom

Gorgeous scent!!! Ultraviolet is really wonderful. Unique, unusual. I love it. It's a lovely violet, and has many lovely smells. Gorgeous pepper and vanilla, and a comforting amber and flowers and fruit. It's very strong, which I love, a warm, comforting and enriching and also cool and charming perfume. Very feminine and playful, exotic and enthralling. I've been wearing it for a few years, and have loved it from the start. It's a very special perfume. And I love the bottle and the colour.

Hewlett

This is not a review, but someone here said that this is an "Aquarius" scent. I just realized that my friend, who introduced me to Ultraviolet by Wearing it as her signature scent for years, is an "Aquarius".

I totally love this scent, one of the few perfumes where I've emptied bottles and rebought more than twice. I'm an "Aquarius" too!!!

That's weird in a funny way!

blake.lee

I love this violet! I love it so much I almost overdosed on it the first time I wore it. I forgot how HUGE 1990's fragrances were. I sprayed two sprays on each arm and one on my chest on my shirt. BIG mistake! I almost suffocated lol! Two sprays are plenty. This scent is hard to describe. It's sweet violet but spicy, very modern, cheerful, even slightly ozonic and I usually hate ozonic perfumes, but love this one. I don't understand how Ultraviolet is both cold and welcoming at the same time? You could never call this one a shrinking violet. You need to love powerful floral scents and pepper. There's a fruitiness to it and a soft, fluffy sensation in the base. Cold, wet, strong violet with hot, spicy pepper and a fluffy amber, almond and vanilla base. Don't expect a gourmand or a traditional oriental and you won't be disappointed. Use a light hand so you don't overwhelm yourself. The bottle is a fun one too!

heavenlyangel

Beautiful violet. Violet is a gorgeous flower, and this perfume really makes it extra lovely, for me. I love it. Spicy and ethereal. Sweet and yet a tad bitter. Soft and powdery, but also strong, has a gorgeous oriental aroma, with a woodsy/violet/almond dry-down. It's quite wonderful and unique I think, a beautiful powdery floral, with a lot of creamy sweetness. On me it lasts very well - about 10 hours, and the sillage is nice - about an arm's length. My husband and children really like it, and even ASK me to wear it! 'Mommy, can you wear that yummy perfume today?' I love it.

polkadot27

Beautiful scent- it is both powdery but also smells sort of dewy- this makes it have a very unique interesting feel for me it is dry due to the powder yet has a dewiness. I find it very intriguing- I have had it for years now and I am sort of angry that shops are now selling it again, as it will probably go mainstream as everyone loves LADY MILLION (which is rubbish) so will probably add this to their collection too.

This scent is unique and reminds me a little of Alien it has the same unusual vibe as Alien, not a similar scent. I find this one quirkier than Alien. I feel it I wear this well- it is nice for colder months- I find it too cloying in the summer. It lasts 6 hours on me- but projection is strong when one firsts spray but then it does turn into a skin scent. Anyway I am not good at identifying the individual notes but to me it is powdery metalllic smelling yet has a dewiness about it also. There is no strong peppery spicy notes for me- it is smoothly blended in my opinion- I don't know- I find it unique smelling and it has a unique feel- it just works with my skin- I like it's 'vibe'!

This one certainly puts the newer perfumes from this line to shame- how can Paco Rabanne go from making unique master pieces such as this to Lady Million?

mereltje

There is a dupe of PRU called blacklight from Creation Lamis. Longer lasting (about 6 hours on me!)

guachipiruli

I just received this in the mail. I really like it. If you are into flowery violet fragrances this is totally for you. Violet is usually associated with ¨older women¨ but this is not the case with Ultraviolet, it has a certain chewing-gum note that may makes it a bit teenerish and makes it immediately an actual fragrance.

Lasting power is very disappointing. Half an hour and it is gone. In that sense it is a classic violet fragrance ;-). It is more like a strong skin scent than a true Eau de Parfum.

If you can live we reapplying during the day (something i lololove to doe XD) I recommend it. And if you can´t I recommend it as well.

karina281

Over the past 5 years I used around 7 bottles of Ultraviolet. I never saw anything that would smell the same way. It's so individual and bright and a bit old-fashioned but in a good way.

I love each and every note of it, but unfortunately sillage leaves much to be desired..If it was heavier I wouldn't be in search of other perfumes which could fulfill all my expectations.

But in spite of that, it's still my signature fragrance.I absolutely love it

bronni666

i received this as a gift and to me, this stinks. smells like lavender and roses that have gone off like granny's purse or a cheap air freshener, i have many perfumes i hate but this one happens to be close to the top of the list along with ck's contradiction. i gave it to a friend and she threw it in the garbage.

ohrite

though this perfume has been in my collection for years I've never worn it more than maybe ten times. that is until just recently. I've started to rediscover my whole wardrobe and this instantly went to my top ten! it's cozy, enveloping, sweet but fresh, distinctive and to my nose wellblended. it feels like a friend to me. really love this. <3

Soofiya

Very unique and strong,it's very original and sexy in a special way..not a girly girl's sexy fragrance and not in a mysterious, dark Asian way..it's sexy, mature and playful the same time
Ultraviolet opens spicy, dry and powdery..something like peppery woods but it dries down to a lush oriental floral, spicy violets in a almondy vanilla base with a fruity undertone, difficult to explain but interesting enough to buy and wear..it's not my type and I can't say I love it or that I want to repurchase, still I'm happy to have a 2.7 oz bottle of it in my collection since it was an interesting experience
I also like it's bottle,it's uniqueness,it's color and how easy to take in hand it is but it's very difficult to decant it in small bottle as I usually do and it's also not a good idea to carry it in a bag, unless it's it's in it's box..it's long lasting on me with more than moderate sillage,it's a noticeable one
I don't like to wear it in hot days because it's peppers and powders may become nauseating but wearable in other cooler days
Edit:
Well it acts very different on my skin in different days.sometimes violet is surrounded by spicy woods and incense! I know incense isn't among notes but I can smell it it gets pretty strong to my nose sometimes, during these times it appears as a unisex scent and I don't really like it.other times I can smell violent blended with fruity(apricot)almondy vanilla.during these times it's creamy, feminine and sexy and I like it a lot
Make sure to give it a least twenty minutes and then decide about it.I can sometimes feel an almost old, synthetic vibe in it's opening but it develops to a more pleasant scent as time passess
Usually brands tend to discontinue original, unique perfumes with off putting opening and lovely dry downs.I'm surprised and happy to see ultraviolet is still among us

eternalgold

The aroma is ethereal violets drifting across the edge of a meadow.I could not detect any pepper or roses and no vanilla. But its strength may be a bit too much for some.

Madrona

For some reason I was attracted to the name but violets... well, they just don't do it for me, I guess. The combination with the pepper in this one is somewhat nauseating. Not a fan, I'm afraid.

bushonka

For me, As for the shape of the bottle (looks like a little UFO), the color of the liquid , and even the smell, Ultraviolet is the predecessor of Alien. No wonder if Thierry Mugler was inspired by that for creating the Alien fragrance. Ultraviolet is sexy, spicy, playful, fun and easy to wear. And the Alien it's like more grown up, mature and wiser sister. Both sweet, with atomic projection and longevity and with very violet and purple aroma.... Gorgeous

Mattshaffer

Dude-- don't be scared, just go buy it.. I had this fragrance and sometimes i use it with fcuk pop culture, not too much but only a thin layer and the result is awesome.. I love it!

Mattshaffer

Moawiya -- go buy it!! I had this fragrance and sometimes i use it with fcuk pop culture, not too much, only a thin layer, i love the result!

moawiya.alanazi

ladies do you recommend this one for a dude i'm 26 btw.

Nil3

I reviewed this one already . But I had to add after reading the review ( 2 below me)

Omg!!!! I'm an Aquarius!!!

yayu.kholie

Very unusual scent. I have a love/hate relationship with this one. Sometimes i love the soft lingering smell and sometimes it makes me so nauseous that it almost makes me throw up. It stays more than 7 hrs. Sweet winter perfume. Dont blind buy this one first test it out yourself

Dimitra79

15-16 years ago I was working at the airport. Day and night, summer and winter. I was wearing Ultra Violet. Because it was enigmatic, aetherial, feminine, different, unique. I was very young but I didn't want to smell like everybody, lovely flowers and caramels and raspberries like.
Ultra violet was the perfect scent to accompany my very precious memories of that period of my life, these very hard and strong and at the same time beautiful days, with all these travellers and sunsets and colleagues (some of them still friends) at that busy and sometimes preciously quiet airport.
Yesterday, at the perfume store I saw Ultra Violet... What?! It still exists? I smelled it, again, after all these years. And it provoced an emotional storm.
Thank you Paco Rabanne.
As a fellow fragrantican commented, this is an "aquarius" perfume, if that makes any sense.
Well...that's not exactly a perfume review, I know. And I can't say that this is a "safe" perfume. But it has personality. A unique one. Try it. I 'm not sure you will like it. But you will never forget it!...

selenium_m

Long ago left it behind not in the best olfactory memory. Not so long ago found half used bottle in my mother's house...in my old room, together with bvl black,le roy soleil, jpg classique and other old sweethearts. I tried it. Soon afterwards I got a headache and started hating violets and once beloved J. Cavallier. Maybe the time was not right, maybe coz it was very hot summer, maybe I was in fight with the whole world, but now there's been a change of hearts. This violets are blossoming in the winter cold. Vanilla is getting cheeky with black pepper. The whole impression is warm, powdery and a bit high-pitched. The longevity on my skin is terrific and so are the compliments. Whoever loves the work of J.Cavallier should try this because of the classic Cavallier-ish note that is so very distinctive.

yiota.liapi

Sensational and warm.winter only.love it

mimosabee

This is a deep, mysterious, enchanting fragrance that is romantic in a post-modern way.

I say post-modern because all the notes scream equally strong which makes it hard to define.

To begin with, coriander is very strong . As a matter of fact, so strong that it almost resembles carnation. Then, a creamy blend of apricot and almond comes and makes this scent sit on the skin well. In between this contradiction, you can feel rosewood, roses and vanilla. And then let's not forget the frontman: violet...

The result is ethereal and outwordly and I love it on other people. It is a very beautiful scent but I regret to say it is not for me... I have very fair skin that goes well with powdery florals and warm spices to some extent is tolerable on my skin as in Ralph Lauren Romance. I really love to smell it but unfortunately it triggers my migraine and the mixture of coriander and strong violets gets clogging and makes me feel dizzy. It has a very long sillage and you can sense quality in this fragrance.

If you like the fragrance at the initial spray and if you have migraine or allergies, just spray it at the tips of your hair and wear it for a day. Only buy it if you are still fine by the end of the day.

update: I bought it and I'm loving it. Very durable on clothes. Perfect in cold weather. I smell the bitter lily of the valley flowers and lilac in the opening mixed with some deliciously soft, airy vanilla.. Maybe, that impression comes from corriander and jasmine.

chanelnumerocinq

Loved it so much the first year of having it, as time passed became a bit disenchanted. It is special and unique but it is very sweet.

Ultraviolet in keeping with the futuristic/alien theme of the advertising & UFO packaged design, smells intentionally (?) synthetic & unnatural. What I mean by that is sometimes perfumes smell unintentionally synthetic (the supposed smell of fruit ends up smelling like fake syrup). But Ultraviolet is synthetic in a way that smells deliberate like it’s supposed to be part of the perfume, like Alien by Thierry Mugler or any other “futuristic” scent. Of course this is my impression, I could have it backwards!

Ultraviolet opens strong, with an acetone note. Dries down very sweet with violet and vanilla juxtaposition. The sharpness & overall strength and simplicity of these two notes together distinguishes Ultraviolet from the other violet/vanilla compositions on the market that remind of baby powder or something from Guerlain. It’s not powdery or very floral.

With age of the liquid, Ultraviolet becomes more peppery, both in the herbal and vegetal sense.

Not necessarily a pretty perfume, but it’s different. A distinctive choice for a night out.

Wellcovered

I used to have this, and I loved it. Even went through 2 bottles which is incredibly rare for me. But then I started smelling it on other people, which is an indicator to me that a scent is getting too popular and it's time to move on!

I think I will repurchase now, it's been about 10 years Since I have smelt it on anyone. So incredibly unique. Can be a bit sweet and cloying if not careful, less is more!

perfumehopper_in_JPN

So soft nice scents.

I can't depiction this scents, but safe for blind buy(except people don't like soft sweet smells).

And not same scents but same soft and sweet type perfumes are Ghost,Escade's Sentiment.

Wysteria

I like this!
Opens like citrus fruits and shiny metal (yes it smells like metal) on me, and turns into fresh and sweet violets within a few seconds. Then it settles down to a warm spicy futuristic floral. I also get a little bit of powdery soap. Really nice.

I love the way uv gradually develops. It's a really warm scent on me, and I'm a big fan of warm spicy perfumes (that's why I dared to blindbuy this one) For me it's also very a very relaxing scent. The name, bottle, smell and notes all make perfect sense. Great concept, I'm glad to add this one to my collection.

goldiloks

I absolutely love how there are no comparison scents noted in the 'remind me of' section. Spot on. Ultraviolet is unique, and it completely smells the way it looks, if that makes sense. Purple, silver, medicinal, inviting, cold, weird, and utterly lovely.

badgerbruno

Softer and milkier than Beyond Paradise but there are some similarities there. No clue what the florals are but they both smell divine and have a hint of pepper to them.

username101

When I first saw this I thought, wow the packaging is very reminiscent of Be Delicious by DKNY, but then this actually came out first so I guess this is the predecessor. I am a lover of violets, and I wonder if this fragrance delivers violet well, or if it's a creative blend that incorporates violet.

virna.medina

This perfume smells like no other perfumes. I've tried like dozens of perfumes but keep on coming back to this. Ultraviolet is me!

starvega

I wear Ultrared regularly and love it so I've been keen to try Ultraviolet for a long time, but unfortunately my skin just eats this one up. The fragrance is made up of lovely, powdery, candied violets, but with very little sillage and and gone within a couple of hours. If you are like me and have trouble with your skin eating perfumes, you might find that it wears the same way on you.

Wheaters

I really like this. First impression was rubbish to be perfectly frank (way too sour!), but give it 10 minutes and get out of Boots Fragrances into the fresh air and bam - there is the sweet Violet I was expecting.
Very light and subtle. Not powdery. Completely inoffensive. Not great at staying power nor projection, but will definitely buy if available at discount.
Recommended :)

P.S. Strange bottle, not the most user-friendly squirty thing ever.

ellenresia

This is my ultimate Perfume. Absolutely gorgeous smell, beautiful and I can't stop wearing this since 2001. I fell in love with this perfume for the 1st time, for 14 years wearing the UV from Paco Rabanne, I've never bored. Everytime I wear this, men and women who are passing by, they says... Girl... "what perfume are you wearing? You smell perfect!" And of course I feel so pretty when this UV baby on my body. She is my soul scent :)

BethiaCharlotte

Ultraviolet is an incredibly soft and subtle perfume being an interesting powdery floral that sits very close to the skin. It is quite a romantic fragrance in a very modern way. I personally like the fact that the silage is light, and it would be perfect as a day fragrance at the office as it would not overwhelm the room. My main criticism of the perfume is the bottle design - the lid is hard to remove, and when I finally do manage to get it open, the nozzle falls off (not to mention that the fact that I have had to keep it in the box because it just rolls around like crazy). Apart from that, its a lovely feminine scent!

This perfume tells me that the wearer is a feisty and bold career lady. Highly sexual, knows what she wants, and gets what she wants. She wants to be the centre of attention, and loves to have fun and take risks.

Very strong musk, cedarwood, powdery. But careful not to overdose, as it might be a small assault to the nose.

But one of my faves.

I got a sample of this, and I liked it. It smelt sweet and soft, like powdered, candied violet petals. Once I put it on, the pepper and the spicy became more prominent, and the flowers receded to the background.

Something about the combination between the pepper and the flowers and fruits and almond... didn't go well. Something hit a really bad note, it smelled overwhelmingly rancid to me, and I had to wash it off. I am disappointed, because it seemed promising.

YanaYanaYana

@bamapachyderm Thank you! :)

I ended up buying it and OMG best blind buy ever! First of all, despite the fact that somehow I never had it (and I am a perfume hoarder) it is very very familiar. Those around me must have been using it. It brings back good memories somehow. Comfort scent for me, definitely.
As I said, I love everything Violet these days and this one goes right to the top of my all time favorite. It is so soft and beautifully understated (just how I like it, I can not physically tolerate loud fragrances due to my extreme sense of smell), so elegant. As others said, it is definitely not a "Look at me!Look at me!" scent. It's more of "Come and look closer, I'm unique". Oh how I fell in love with it!

bamapachyderm

@YanaYanaYana - this is not like them. They have violet leaf, this does not, and it is quite noticeable. This is lovely, but much more "powdery" than Violet Blonde or B. Balenciaga. If you're looking for something like those two, this isn't it.

*this isn't a straight up review of Ultraviolet, I'm just answering a question. I really wish Fragrantica would update this site to make it more conversation-friendly!!!

anosh313

My grandfather always used a perfume that smells like this.. so sad... I wanted to like ultra violet but I can't

YanaYanaYana

Somehow I missed this one completely. I have no idea what it smells like but these days I LOVE all things violet, so of course I am dying to try this one. It is not sold in NYC (not thay I know of) but I see it online. Does it smell more like Balenciaga? Or Violet Blonde? Anybody has it for a swap or can kindly send a sample to a fellow perfume lover in need?

Again, this perfume has been sat in my drawer boxed as I felt it was too powerful/strong for me. However, there was something about it I liked that I just could not bear to part with!

So with fresh skin today I spritz lightly. There is a strong blast of peppery notes for me with a hint of flowers. Now in the past I have probably been too quick to judge and washed off, today i let it sit! After 4/5 hrs the pepper has mellowed to a beautiful floral, very warm fragrance, slightly more oriental than my usual choice but nice with a hint of powder. It is strong but needed that time to sit on the skin to reach its potential on me.

I have to say sillage is good for the limited spray I put on.... My usual more liberal spray would give a fab sillage me thinks. longevity was good 7 hours later and it was still very pronounced on my wrists.

I would not wear it to the office myself... I favour lighter options. However I think this would be a lovely fragrance if I had a big meeting at work and needed to impress.

sail0rmars

It's one of the scents that keeps you coming back for more! I smelled it for the first time and I'm already looking forward to test it again. I like the powdery sweetness and the floral notes, soft and feminine. I'm sure that's a good one in the category of the crowd pleasers, as it doesn't give anything harsh and it's a really balanced one, but still having its personality. Smells clean and expensive, for the woman who doesn't have to provoke a lot in order to be noticeable, as she's unique anyway.

jamiehammond1980

How anyone can have anything bad to say about this sweet violet delight is a mystery to me but that said I have loved this from first smell my boyfriend at the time bought me this mistaking it for the men's version which I am also a fan of.the women's version makes the men's look like a shadow of a shadow thank heaven for his mistake as this has been a staple of mine for years and its an alrounder anytime of year any situation if you like violet then snap this up if you like mandarins then go for the men's and who ever designed the bottle is pure genius that bottle is always fun when watching someone who has never used it try to figure it out lol.IMHO ultra violet is pure purple perfection.

Blondine28

Well, I am not in love. Ultraviolet is nothing special, it is good, but thats it. Why Jaques , why?? Knowing you did so many fragrances and this one is just ...so not you. :(

shell_bell

Just received a small sample bottle of this today and, with the warm spring temps outside, I think it's lovely!

This is my first violet perfume and while sitting next to the open window I smile as I inhale it on the breeze. Lightly sweet & with moderate lasting power this is not so powdery on me as the chart states.
Like others have stated it might not be much of a "signature scent" and it doesn't stand up and shout "HELLO, EVERYONE, I'M HERE!" but it's a wonderful spring scent and I'm trying to collect more of those as a new perfumista who mostly has only fall/winter bottles.

This fragrance is perfect when you just want to smell nice. It would work lovely in an office setting or just about anywhere I can think of.

If you want a pretty violet musk frag, then get this. I might save up for a larger bottle in the near future. ;)

mildspicej17u55l

Ultraviolet is the perfume for women or girls that want to smell delicious but don't really wanna mix in with all the other people smelling like a unicorn cutting the cheese. It's so pleasant, so inoffensive, and not annoying that I could never really point it out of a lineup. Ultraviolet is not a statement maker perfume it's an everyday signature. I want men's version. The packaging is so cool.

lkha37

I love this soft powdery floral with its little bite from the pepper. This gives it more character when compared to other powdery florals like Kenzo Flower. Makes a good daytime and office scent as it is not loud or in your face/nose. Good for snuggling down in bed too.

PerfumeGodess

It's like an extraterrestrial ship that has landed this fragrance on Earth! Out of this World!!!

denizz

I finished a couple of bottles from this perfume. It is floral-mostly violet- and feminine. Lots of my friends bought this perfume when they smelt on me.But unfortunately it is not long lasting.

mvd99

I got a sample of this based on the notes alone. I love orientals and have been recently getting more into spicy orientals and being Mexican, I thought the chili note sounded super cool and was worth checking out. On me, it's a like, not a love. On my skin, it's way too much pepper. I don't think it's an overwhelming fragrance though, just very spicy. I wouldn't call it beatiful but it's definitely interesting. After the opening died down, I got some violet peeking out beyond the pepper, but not a lot. It's so peppery in fact that I think it may irritate people with more sensitive skin.

s_aurian

My ex offer me to choose birthday gift for myself around year 2000-2001. After smelled many perfume at counter, I return to this one. Never heard Paco Rabanne before. Very new at my country that time. When people ask me, 'what is wonderful smell? or what are you wearing?'
their reaction when gets answer,'What, Paco what?'
Seriously, nobody familiar with Paco Rabanne that time. In my country, Paco well known after knock of One Million. But i'm still Ultraviolet girl. Its unique, spicy, difference, sexy, strong, dark etc. I also think why I choose male fragrance designer? I'm not quite familiar with perfume note that time, only I know, I love it very much! After that I always bumping into dark kind of bottle. Ultraviolet make me find myself. Spicy, fresh, standing and bold, bit masculine, just me. Very long lasting for my skin. Drew compliment... All time big love.

Cynicalwish

I remember using a sample may years ago, and really enjoying it. Then I forgot about it, until I tried again recently. The first spray didn't quite conveince me, it had a "hairspray" quality to me. But after a little while, it became a soft, gentle, enveloping sweet violet scent, made interesting by the spicy chilli note and cozy vanilla.
I would really like to have it again!

If anybody has it for swap in the UK, please contact me!

tahia_loky

este perfume huele idéntico a la barbie hawaiana!!! es muy rico, femenico, me trae recuerdos de cuando era niña :D

kathy_g

VERY unusual scent, perfect for intimate night outs. Has a great dry down. Kinda on a heavy side but definitely a statement maker. I still keep memories of my BF back in 2000s saying: "I want to dig into your hair smell and sleep there"..lol.

beccalee79

I first purchased this perfume the week it was launched back in 1999. At the time I had never smelt anything like it. It was so unique. Sweet peppery violet. I recently purchased a new bottle and the scent remains the same to my nose, maybe a fraction less potent. A must have for lovers of violet and pepper.

toto453

A different perfume, it makes a borderline between other fragrances. It is special but definitely good !

A gorgeous close to skin perfume. For those office days and moments where you need your projection as a clean fragrance not at all in someone's face. Very tidy. Totally Powdery. I can imagine orange and violet together with amber as it dries down after the initial pepper and coriander. Love the peeking Rose. Subtle Sexy.

Sillage : 5/10

Unisex, unusual and abstract, Ultraviolet is a cool, green, peppery blend of osmanthus and violets. The pepper is hit and miss for me in perfumes, but in this composition it is played well with other notes. Interesting combination indeed. It has cool and relaxing vibe which makes it a great perfume for spring and summer time.

The pepper is a bit overpowering at first, but then the composition settles into a nicely balanced scent of osmanthus with slight hint of violets. Not usual sweet-natured, predominant violets, but more like a soft violet layer underneath the osmanthus cover. The composition remains light and refreshing. There are woody notes towards the dry down, which make this scent softer and smoother with slight natural sweetness.

Overall this is a nice composition, but I do not think that it is a blind buy material. I would definitely test it first. A note for violet lovers – not my favorite one for violets. There are much better violet scents that showcase the natural beauty of this flower. But if you are looking for a light and unusual spring scent and enjoy spicy-green-floral scents then give it a try. Overall score 7/10.

lassmichdich

i don't get it. why? what's the interest?

tried many times and the only positive thing i can say about it is it doesn't stink. but it was frustratingly pointless to me. that's why i manage to accumulate enough emotion for disliking it.
my notes impression is mainly boringest and haphazardly put together ...vanillin(?) and no projection to talk of.
my skin might be partially responsible as it amplifies "sweet"... sweet! :(
sold it on ebay.

virna.medina

Been wearing this for years and then decided to look for a replacement.

Tried Alabaster from Banana Republic (love it, but it's no ultraviolet), Alien from Thierry Mugler (so-so), Boss Femme (like it, great staying power), Chic Carolina Herrera and Nina Ricci Jour (kinda liked it, great staying power), Ed Hardy Born Wild (kinda like it, but staying power sucks) and in the end I even got my nose stucked on one of the Victoria's Secret scent (big mistake).

Just purchased this again after 3 years searching for an alternate.

Nothing came close to ultraviolet. LOVE IT! It's so unique and there is no perfume like it. Reminds me of no other perfume. It's my signature scent, IT'S ME!

g1gglesg1rl

I just brought a little his & her's 5ml set for Ultraviolet & I love it. The men's is striking and the womans is not what I had expected.
It's sweet but not candy sweet like others I own, it's playful and sexy & I just added it to my want list for a full sized bottle :D

polkadot27

My first impression was, it is the only perfume that slightly resembles alien. I dont know, its like a sharper lighter more synthetic version of alien. It has the same feel as alien.
Anyway i do like it , i think its a rather mystical powder and spice kind of scent. Its very fresh and clean.
It is certainly unique and enchanting but in a masculine strong way, its a piercing kind of fragrance.
I think of it as a fairy dust kind of scent. Its special and complex but delivers what it promises. It alternates between a powdery feel and a balmy feel. Its interesting and less popular than alien and therefore more individualistic. If you like alien this is more affordable.

LadyPilot

I once crushed a few grains of allspice on my palm and sprayed some UV onto the other - why isn't allspice listed here???:-/
But UV is so much more than just 'allspice&friends'... It's a masterpiece in a fancy UFO/egg decant which makes it even more fascinating and enjoyable to use:)

janelle70

Settled down to a patchouli cedar drydown at 4 hours. Aw, I wanted the top and heart to last a bit longer as I'm growing increasingly fond of violet and almond. I bet those peppers made the opening quite unique too. Not a perfect fall day frag, but I like it. Lasted through the night on me, more than 12 hours.

mhubbard

I am reading the reviews here and wonder if we have tried the same perfume. I received some samples recently after reading a great deal about this on the boards. This is an innocuous, pleasant but non-descript floral, hard to describe as I can detect nothing distinctive. No prominent violet or gourmand type notes that I was able to discern. It would seem inoffensive and suitable for office wear. I already have several of those type scents, so I am glad I was able to purchase samples, as this is not FB worthy. Longevity nothing special, about 3 hours.

StellaDiverFlynn

Ultraviolet strikes on the skin with a fresh spicy osmanthus. It's really the sort of fresh watery spices. I smell mostly orange pepper, grey pepper and some ginger. The osmanthus is not overly sweet. The spices add some edge to the adorable fruity floral osmanthus, which is an unfamiliar combination but works surprisingly well.

The violet doesn't enter drastically, but quietly mellows into the whole composition. I don't find it very powdery or candied violet, instead, more of a tranparent and clean scent, a little bit shampoo-y like. The base notes are hardly detectable on me.

The sillage is soft and the longevity is around 7 to 8 hours. An unusual scent of spiced osmanthus and violet, I'd recommend it!

Angel in the South

I ordered this as a blind buy and I am not disappointed. It is very feminine, powdery, violet smelling on my skin. A perfume that to my mind is the kind that a lady would wear. It does not scream or shout sweetness like many others that I own. As a blind buy I am not at all sorry that I bought this, I am sure that it will become a firm favourite of mine.

kakamelia

I have just ordered it as a blind purchase, so I hope I won´t be disappointed... But can´t wait smelling it.

Edit: Well it is for about one week I have this at home. The first sniff was like uaaaa :) Don´t know how to describe it, but I had a same feeling like I was on some carousel at carnival, smelling all stalls with sweets and exotic food. It was pulsing on me once violet, once some woody notes and all different notes (which I couldn´t identify). I had just euphoric mood and was very hapy of this buy.
But now I have lil bit calmed down - the euphoria disappeared:(. I have bought only small sample, and I´m quite glad. I have been using powdery and woody scents reecently and this is such different, that doesn´t please me so much. Sometimes I worry, if I don´t smell like some toilet air freshener, when I wear it :/. I don´t want to criticise it, I still find it very nice and I will use the sample till the end, but am not very sure of more buy of this...

Last update: I´ve bought a bottle cos I´ve revealed that my sample was a fake :/. So the original (I hope, nobody knows today, when you buy it online...) is something very different. Imho it is citrusy violet. It reminds me Versense by Versace-but with the violet note, which is very nice in this frag. It is very pleasuring and calms down the sourness. It doesn´t last too long on my skin (2hrs:( ), but on clothes it is better, lasts for ages. I consider it very universal - can imagine it on my mum, even on some 16yrs old chick.
So in the end my oppinion about it is very positive :)

marily

It's wonderful perfume......sweet violets but anything of vanilla in it!!!!! It's casual and cozy scent, you feel happiness and joy wearing it.....It's a unique and long lasting scent...I would say is appropriate for younger ages or maybe wearing it to feel much younger :)

Amarilis60

Love these peppery violets with lots of berries ! Very interesting composition, one of a kind! If someone want to sell or swap, I will buy or swap in Australia. Have few drops left :**( Can't see it in shops for a long time now but want it so much!

When I was much younger,I think it was 1998/99 I was visiting a friend. On her bedroom drawer she had a 'Ultraviolet' bottle festival or some sort of a huge Ultraviolet family gathering. That girl had them in ALL ml's. Each one more than one bottle. From the big one to the tiniest one. She took the 80 ml bottle sprayed it under her turtleneck and then we left the house.

Now,10 years later I was with my best friend and i had nothing to spray. So she pulled out of her purse the 'purple ball'. I sprayed some on my chest,it was April, spring, and warm.
The whole day she kept on saying: Man,this perfume is loving you. The whiffs I get are non stop.

Couple of month later I got a bottle as a gift from my mother in law.

I salute Paco RABANNE for this masterpiece! Genius of a nose whoever thought of these spices and that combination. I just wanna wrap my arms around myself...such a peaceful scent.

bluebellinthewoods

If you love this fair dues it's taste, perspective and memory all playing a part. On me this is synthetic violet acid. Something in me wants to like it but I just can't.

flowers-in-the-springtime

This scent has taken me completely by surprise! It's really lovely!
The initial spritz was rather unpleasant and aldehydic, it smelt a little sour to me and I thought it would be a scrubber, but after about 15 minutes it started to settle down and I got a beautiful peppery violet smell which kept wafting up at me for hours to come.
This is so utterly unusual that I don't know how to describe the notes. To my nose, it gets better with time, I can't stop inhaling my wrist.
Ok for what it's worth I can smell violet predominately but there are woody undertones and a powder note which is mature and lovely and doesn't dominate the fragrance, nor does it overwhelm you with girlyness. There are floral notes in here and I get a waft of osmanthus.
The fragrance has an addictive and very warm attractiveness to it.
The flacon lets this lovely fragrance down, as it looks like a big ugly egg. Surely PR could've had a little more imagination instead of creating a bottle which reminds me of something out of the Flintstones.
That apart, this is beautiful, classy and elegant.
Longevity is quite amazing and silage stays very close.
Value for money is amazing as this costs very little and smells like a million dollars!

olymailo

Amazing perfume for the winter days, not heavy but quite strong!is an unforgettable fragrance!

genny17

Such an interesting fragrance, on me it isn't really so much about violets, the scent is enveloping, fresh, a certain watery edge also, velvety, a bit hard to describe really, it is modern, warm, ultra feminine, a real different creation by Paco Rabanne. I don't get any spiciness really, more a warmth in the base, it is more a soft floral oriental, it isn't heavy, or strong to my nose. I feel real good wearing it, it has an uplifting aura , but longevity isnt great.
Intriguing scent I am pleased to like it, there is something candid and direct about Ultraviolet What you see is what you get.

vintage_scent

Lovely...the peppers blend so exquisitely with the powdery violet thanks to just the right amount of vanilla. I get a little bit of Violet Blonde and My Queen in this. It is actually what I was hoping Generous Violet to smell like, but that turned out to be a screechy ozonic mess.

I really love this because it is a lovely blend of old style with a bit of new. It is a soft spicy powdery cloud with medium longevity and sillage a bit on the light side. Later on in the drydown, there is a little more patchouli than I care for, but the violet holds it own. A very lovely little violet perfume, and a little bit vintage
Ultra sexy!

-UPDATE-
I feel that I have more to say about this gorgeous perfume since the last time I wore it...
Simply put, this is as equivalent to a fluffy, ultra soft cashmere sweater as anything can get. I am REALLY falling in love with this scent. It's soft but sultry, super sexy violet concoction...powdery, peppery, spicy gorgeousness. I really am looking forward to wearing this in the Fall and Winter months, it is just so cosy, like an enormous furry super-sized fluffy blanket enveloping you with a spicy ultraviolet cloud.Very vintage and purple smelling...I feel like I am wrapped up in a luxurious extra large mink coat.

I am sitting here on a Friday night drinking my lime-a-rita in a martini glass wearing this and one of my vintage chiffon peignoirs, feeling like a true femme fatale!;)

violetchaos

Gorgeous scent- when my man wears it. On me it's just too... masculine? Just patchouli, pepper and rosewood. Also the bottle is somewhat inconvenient, can't exactly carry it around in your bag and the reflective top is like a funhouse mirror!!

Revontuli

I'd call this a different, remarkable perfume. I also love the title a lot, the smell is indeed a deep and "flashy" one. For me it's perfect for winter days, due to its peppery notes and warmth. And it also has one of my wonderful scents, almond.

MintyBobbins

Great scent, but too strong for me. I gave it to my mom.. she loves it. :)

LaUna

What an amazing peppery violets scent! Fresh, crisp with water hues.
Definite Love :)
Violets, pepper, spices, cedar and water at first, then creamy soft vanilla, musk and coriander shows up shortly after. It picks up strength and gets sweeter with time. All of the notes are pretty much detectable. It's like Violets and breath of fresh air at first that begin to warm up on the skin! Yes I Love it that much already!
Awe to the awesomeness! Classy and excellent quality perfume, haven't smelled nothing like it.
Silage moderate, pleasant enough for daytime, and could be worn for evening occasions as well. Got 6 hours out of it.
Many Thanks to Fragranticans and Violet Lovers!
One of the Best blind buys!

gooberskitty21

Dios mio paco, what were you thinking??! This was a blind buy being that I had yet to sample a PR frag I disliked, until now..and man oh man do I dislike this! Smells like lavender scented carpetfresh & kitty litter. This is a NO, just no. I have a damn near virgin bottle of this up for swap, 2.8. oz. PM me if interested......please!!

RoRoSe

black paper, white paper, orange paper .. paper & paper & paper .. too papery .. spicy .. sexy .. close to the skin ..
I blind buy a 50 ml bottle in a good price.. I will enjoy it .. but I will not repurchase it to be honest ..

meret

Beautiful, delicate and tender in winter. Cloying, overpowering and unbearable in summer.

I love it! I love the wonderful fragile notes it carries in crisp and cold winter. its like floating in the cloud of dreamy feathers...

Indeed, the weather does matter - humidity with heat makes this liquid to explode in the most obnoxious way, seriously, creating a stink bomb. Whereas a beautiful crisp and cold winter with low humidity makes it really sparkle. This nordic winter is the time to truly enjoy Ultraviolet - get dressed properly, and take a walk outside in a winter wonderland, and when it's too cold just burry your nose into that soft pashmina wrapped around you, take a deep breath and enjoy the sensation of Ultraviolet caressing your senses.

Dawndelights

I bought this without trying it as could not find a shop with a tester and wish i never bought it. I think its the pepper i do not like, its not so bad after a hour and the pepper has gone a bit, but i think my mum is going to be getting another perfume off me soon
Edit I tend to spray to close but with this perfume and all that pepper you need to spray much further away and its not so bad so from a dislike its now a like but not a love and it could be a bit sweeter it not that sweet
Another edit, i am not so keen on smelling this on my wrist but i love the whiffs of perfume i get. The other day at work I was thinking one of the customers must be smelling nice and was thinking of mentioning something then realised its my own perfume i am smelling

lily13ana

A friend of mine has it, and i've never liked how it smells on her. One day i tested it from her bottle and i was shocked on how good it smells on me. It's exactly as i remeber it from 10 years ago when i tested it from the first time: mysterious and addictive. it has enough strenghth for me, it is very powdery which i love. i couldn't stop sniffing my wrist and, from that day i can't stop thinking of how much i want a full bottle. It has very good projection and longevity.

Edit: Have and use this for a week. In the beginning is sweet and then it seems very light, and close to the skinn with good longevity. The problem it might be the very hummid weather, because in the fisrt day it was very strong, the weather it was dry and windy and in the next days it rained and was foggy, with the humidity of more than 70%.

jennifer.radcliffe3

I like the fact that not many people know about this fragrance, and it is fantastic! I've had several men stop me in public and ask for the name of this fragrance I'm wearing. Hesitantly, I tell them. But again, I like the fact that it isn't a very popular fragrance. The name and bottle suit the perfume quite well. I would describe it as Confident, Radiant and Sensual.

Kysyona

This was my first expensive fragrance that I bought with my 1st "real job" salary i my early 20s. had just miraculously escaped out of the post-Soviet block ( ugly times we had in the 90s there) and wanted to make up for the lost teenage years that were means to be spent partying and shining with youth and boldness. No wonder, I was dancing away every weekend back then, and this fragrance could not be better for a night on the town! The smell is indeed very violet, warm and deep, and surprisinly fresh due to a peculiar " cold air whiff" note in what I would call a bouquet of nighttime flowers. In all of that I see Lilacs, Iris and Violets, also a vetiver perhaps somewhere"backstage" - that's what I could sniff out of it.The modern bottleshape, the packaging - all of it screamed "disco!! party!! neon lights!!!!!". This all was in Ireland and I got quite a few compliments back then on how I smelled, even after sweating it on the dancefloor! The only thing is, this smell is so distinct ( didn't come across anything similar since! ), and so one-note dominant, that by the time I got to the bottom of the bottel I was pretty tired of it, and 10 years on - still tired! It is a truly beautiful fragrance, highly recommending it, but the day I will repurchase it - perhaps in my next life, when I am 21 again! :))

ingalee

This right is also a gamble,, had only heard about this parym, liked what was said, so I bought it at an auction site, for a cheaper money, but what a surprise! I like this, quite a strong floral scent just when it lands on the skin, then it will be a warmer tone of flowers, violets o rose, a little woody and peppery as people think, but I do not know if I feel right pepper?!

suit both day and evening scent, like the bottle and the color, sounds a bit like a scent of future? =)) A big plus is that it stays all day long, well almost anyway ....

incandescent

Sweet and spicy violets, somewhat mystical, a little flighty, very feminine, and a touch quirky. It has a sexiness about it too, with a character of its own. There is an underlying hint of metallic zing that gives it a 'futuristic' feel many talk about. But worry not, it is mostly a charming bouquet of sweet violets and spices, with just a hint of vanilla and almonds, and fruity notes that fade off into the dry down. Unique and memorable scent with a delicious sillage that will get you compliments. Fit for all seasons, day or night.

JUST FOR FUN: This is such a AQUARIAN perfume! It has that eclectic, futuristic touch while still being magnetic and feminine, just like the Aquarian personality. It is extroverted enough for a Sagittarian to wear daily, and it also has abit of an enigmatic, mystical feel which will go well with Scorpions and Pisceans. Flighty and playful Gemini would also enjoy this one.

shazbo_tastic

The first "real" perfume I ever owned age 18. I smelled a sample in a magazine and loved it and begged mum to buy it for Christmas. Smelling it still reminds me of univeristy and being that age. Funny how a scent can do that.
I would buy it again as it smells lovely but then I don't really want to buy it as I don't want to ruin those memories either if that make sense?

niecwiecio

I love this smell, really interesting! But i lasts for about 30 minutes! Not worth buying. I don't know how long it may last when you spray it on your hair, but on my wrist it didn't last for long.. Sadly :(

jedikitty

In one word: LOVE.
Just got this today and been "testing" (as in: can't stop sniffing my arm) all day, and the more I sniff it, the more I'm falling for this fragrance.

The violets are intensive, shameless, just the way I like them. The strong rose departs quickly, as if jealous of my love for violets... There is a touch of apricot and spice but both extremely mild, barely there. The vanilla is also barely there which, I think, is a good thing, as so many other scents flaunt vanilla to excess. This vanilla is just there to smooth out the violets, make them creamy and yummy...
I don't get much of anything else, and I don't really care - I love this frag just the way it is - soft, feminine, wearable anywhere and anytime without a risk of offending anyone. Yes, it's that smooth.

Sillage: at first, radiates to about 6 inches, minimal trail, then starts to sit close to skin, and the trail disappears.
Longevity: moderate, 6-7 hrs on me.

dulcette

this is a very interesting, memorable scent. long lasting and intriguing.

spicy yet floral, slight tart sweetness, a woman who cannot decide whether she wants to drink with her friends on their table or hit the dancefloor with a stranger.

definitely a party frag!

CozyCat

Ultraviolet is a sweet and spicy floriental, mainly fresh candied violets with spices, The spices themselves are quite mild and not too in-your-face. I find its scent to be quite distinctive and unique. It's intense but not heavy, rather it's falls slightly on the clean side, which makes it work in any season from cool winters to mild summers. It's crisp when first sprayed on, but it gets sweeter and more intense over time. Apart from violets and spice notes, I also get apricot, vanilla and wood notes on my skin. A versatile scent, day to night, safe enough for the boardroom, but touch up with a few more sprays and it becomes a sexy scent for a night out. It was released over a decade ago, but it smells very 'current' with it's spices and candied violets. It doesn't really smell 'futuristic' to me, whatever that's supposed to mean, but it does make me think of a fairy-tale princess born and bred in a concrete jungle, someone stylish, dynamic, witty and sensual, but maintains a certain feminine and floaty presence. If you like Lolita Lempicka the first fragrance, it's quite likely that you would enjoy Ultraviolet, and vice-versa, both are unique 'purple' fragrances composed around notes of powdery violet, sugar and spice. A bonus (atleast for licorice haters) is that UV comes sans licorice, it is also more 'grown up', fresher and floral. The only downside to UV is the very plain and tacky bottle. Otherwise it's a great all-rounder; original scent, versatile, lovely sillage, great longevity and not too popular. It will make a great signature scent.

my mom used to wear this fragrance and i do now ! it smells sooooo good ! it is a floral powdery fragrance taht later turns into a floral spicy with notes of sweet vanilla creating a perfect combination with a bottle that i find colorful and cute

This was a gift I wore intermittently for years and never could decide if I really liked it or not. Each time I used it I would think, " yeah, this is a keeper, it's a real complex, clean, crisp, modern scent" and I always got compliments (men and women) asking me what it was. It was just too cloying about the 4th hour into wearing it. It has a significant number of notes that I really look for in a fragrance...patchouli, rose, vanilla, citrus, violet, etc. I like a fragrance that's well balanced & blended and doesn't scream sweet, floral or musk. It's been a while since I've worn it. Maybe I'll try it again, but on my husband this time....it is very unique, dare I say interesting?

I receive compliments every time I wear this little gem as it’s daring, bold, seductive and exiting – a fragrance that cannot be compared to another. It is in a very strong genre of its own. Ultraviolet is not a sheer fragrance .it’s not heavy but it’s definitely on the heavier side. Like the one spritz lovelies which you smell even a day after on your clothes. It is a spicy, dressy and womanly fragrance but still there is a freshness that gives you a high energy. It is intense enough to draw attention when you enter a room but still light enough to prevent you from making an old-fashioned.
You have to dare to wear this perfume :)

Like I was saying in my previous review, this is my absolute favorite fragrance... I would like to add that everytime I wear this one I sing the same song, "baby baby light my way - ultraviolet" by U2... It fits perfectly!

Rice-Kitten

Am I the only person who can smell lemon when wearing this? I'm completely shocked to find there are no lemon notes in this!

Anyway, if I could describe this perfume in one word it would be this: Alluring

I remember smelling this on a work colleague and everytime she passed me on the tills I got this beautiful gust of warm, powdery yet citrusy smell (sounds horrible, but it smelt amazing) Obviously I had to ask her what it was and as soon as I got paid I bought it.

It's easily one of the most unique perfumes I have ever owned (and I have owned close enough to 100 perfumes!) is feminine and seductive. I'd recommend this to those who enjoy smelling different and mysterious :)

I love it! This is my signature perfume! What can I say?? Well, if this magic fume chooses you... then there is nothing to add... Truly masterpiece!!!!
Never been so complimented than with this one. The drydown is simply beautiful! The only thing I don´t like is that is not very longlasting on me. Test it, it´s a wonderful scent!!!
If I have to relate it with one word this could be "DEEPNESS"

dkny27

A little powdery - check....
Floral - check....
But the magic is in the dry down.... On the skin, somewhat reminiscent of Spellbound but not as loud, there's a cinnamon (even though there aren't any cinnamon notes listed), spicy settling that increases the ooooomph of this fragrance.... Evenings out or in!

PricklyAndHot

Most of all I feel in this fragrance the osmanthus, blackberry and vanilla notes. The pepper note is also noticeable. For me this fragrance seems rather light than overpowering. I can't say that this perfume is not interesting. Just not my cup of tea.

Kamaty

Start strong and sweet ,then transform in a beautiful violets bouquet yet sugar but very much nice and comfort. Stays for hours and most delicious ever !!!
The and of the day is really soft floral close to skin.
My husband arrive and smell me hummm... imediately go for my favorites!!

My lovely, favorite Ultraviolet, nothing else can compare to you. Unusual, beautiful, addicting, mysterious, sexy... So feminine, sensuous, alluring, you're my nature, my second skin. I can't imagine myself without you.
It's hard for me to describe this fragrance. "Fresh, clean, slightly powdery, slightly spicy, warm and soft" just doesn't do its justice. You have to test it, try it on your skin to see if it's yours. I know a girl who just hates it on herself, but she absolutely loves it on me. This is the one that not only works (or doesn't work) with your body chemistry, it also feels your mood, your attitude toward it. I like to wear it mostly for special occasions, but I think it is also suitable for office wear. When I wear it to work I seem to get increased attention from the male coworkers, like they want to get closer to me and feel that scent of a woman. Like F_A said in her review this is a "fragrance with a hook". It lasts all day on my skin from morning to night, and I will never trade it for anything else.

vroula

Beautiful, really beautiful. I like it very much!! Eventhough is an oriental frangrance it´s not very strong which I really like because I can wear it all day. So warm, so cozy and it lasts many hours.

When you smell it you are dreaming, you feel like you are in a spring field full of violets!!

I love Ultraviolet! This fragrance is unique! It's fresh, slightly sharp and bold, and what other people described as metalic scent, is actually not overpowering at all. It gives the fragrance a special twist and makes it unique.

pum.ohse

I have opposite thoughts about this perfume. In one hand i like the convination of pepper and violets. I also like the beginning, i find it really original. But on the other hand i find it too sharp and not enough well-balanced. In conclusion, i will not purchase it but i don't mind to smell it sometimes.

gracious

I hate. Ultraviolet To me it smells absolutely artificial, metallic
And, worse, lasts a long time!
Before you buy, try.
It is those perfumes, or you love or hate, like me

Ouch!

This little purple pill of pleasure is such a morpher! It's gorrrgeous.

You can smell the orange pepper and pepper in the opening and it smells slightly grassy to me, however this is not how the perfume smells for the main part. The fact that the heart and drydown of this perfume is packed with sweet sugary violets and other yummy things makes the opening not as harsh as it sounds.

The vanilla, amber and soft delicate florals shadow the spices really, and make this into a dreamy fragrance.

It literally unfolds before your your nose. The sweetness amps up within about 10 minutes on my skin, and the perfume smells like the TRUE way it's going to smell for a while. Gorgeous sugary violets amongst other delicate florals. This is just heavenly.

Yes, it's very sweet, but not cloying, there is a streak of pure femininity that blasts through this that sets it apart from your regular sugary celebuscents that use violet.

There is a Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfume called "Fairy Market" which is sadly discontinued but I've realised this is extremely similar. I'm going to put one on one hand and one on the other to compare when I get home. It's the same kind of feel. Almost fairy like..floaty and thick with sweetness.

I'm in love.
