Un Jardin Apres la Mousson by Hermès is a Woody Spicy fragrance for women and men. Un Jardin Apres la Mousson was launched in 2008. The nose behind this fragrance is Jean-Claude Ellena.

Un Jardin après la Mousson: created in 2008, it explores the facets of an unexpected India, when the monsoon restores to the earth what the sun has taken, chasing away the burning breath of drought. Ginger, cardamom, coriander, pepper and vetiver speak of the rebirth of nature captured in Kerala, a universe engorged with water.

Nope, this is a fail.

Smells like uncooked rice with spices, cardamom, cinnamon and ginger sweetened by, amber ? And something that smells like cooking oil.
This is put together with a base of watery notes, something melony but it doesn’t smell like natural melons and some light florals.

It’s quite simple and performance is alright. I didn’t like it but it is well made.

Edit 1: this is simply revolting.. never smelled anything this bad. How come they sell something like this?

AnastasiaGostieva

Amazing freshness from both aquatic and spicy notes. I think it one of the most refreshing summer fragrance pf them all. Of course, longevity is not great, but I would bath myself in this fragrance during summertime. The perfect balance between zesty ginger and cooling cardamom/coriander is superb. It’s in my WS!

To me this feels discordant, like half of two very different fragrances smooshed together.

One half is a fresh fruity-floral, with a distinctly watery sweetness, like the clear juice that pools in a ripe melon as you scoop out spoonfuls of the smooth, slippery flesh.

The other half is a fuzzy, mulchy, root-like scent, with a hint of spice-cupboard in the mix.

It smells like springtime sunbathing on a tiny wooden dock that's just beginning to decay with age. The dock is on the edge of a pond full of algae and water lilies. The sunbather's optimistic sunscreen bottle and beachy state of undress stand out somewhat awkwardly against the backdrop of the cold, murky, and uninviting water.

The fizzy sharpness of the ginger seems to be the main culprit in creating this discordancy. Once it fades, Un Jardin Apres La Musson dries down to a greenish-floral skin-scent, with a sugar-water freshness; sweet and vaguely lotion-y.

It is probably my favorite of the garden collection.
I’ve never been to India, but I can imagine the scene of an Indian garden after monsoon through this bottle. It paints a picture of a meadow dressed by raindrops, with the ginger lilies swaying in the June wind, twisted into a sweet, soft melon-like scent composed of ginger flower, ginger, vetiver and some other spices. It is totally fresh and moist at first, bringing the clean air after rain to me, and after about 30 minutes, the air of the garden is getting warm with the scent of ginger and pepper emerging.
This perfume really captures a vivid scene of a garden after monsoon, and every time I want to choose a bottle to wear, I think of it.

Just lovely! It reminds me of walking through the overgrown fern jungle by the Tisza river in the Carpathian mountains after a heavy cool summer rain. It's green and very moist, yet spicy with a touch of sweetness. So far my favourite Un Jardin out of the three I've tested (the others being Nil and Lagun).

I'm in love and contemplating buying a full bottle.

Why is this gem of a fragrance being discontinued? One of my favourites for warmer months and the first Hermes fragrance I owned way back when it was first released. The ginger is a wet, green ginger rather than the much warmer dried root. There’s a good amount of cardamom which I love in everything and plenty of fresh, leafy notes. I don’t get a great deal of citrus but it’s there and the florals are very much supporting notes. Looking at the list of notes you could easily confuse this for a South Indian recipe but smells like a warm, lush garden in the tropics as intended. I’ve got a full bottle and hope to find a few more at a reasonable price.

Apres La Mousson is easily the most beautiful of the Jardin line, possibly one of the best Hermes fragrances and in my "top 10" of all time fragrances. It's not that complicated, but it will also take you to a different place. Ginger in fragrances, if done right, smells absolutely amazing. There's nothing like the smell of ginger either in food, drink, or fragrance.

In Apres La Mousson, this is a slightly floral and aquatic ginger. There's a lot of vetiver in the background, along with some coriander seed. It has layers, and some oomph as it lasts AND projects like a beast.
It's the best thing to wear to bed, or while leaving the house on hot days. So sad I only have a 50mL. Highly suggest.

Un Jardin Apres la Mousson is another too-light (in my opinion) Jardin series scent. I've got a bunch of ginger scents I like - 5 O'Clock Au Gingembre by Serge Lutens, Eau de Gingembre by Mesinzer among others. I like them, particularly the Serge Lutens. And I have a sub-collection of what I call "After the Rain" petrichor scents. I don't think Un Jardin Apres la Mousson is particularly good in either of those genre. Its ginger is no more prominent and vibrant as that in Demeter's Fresh Ginger. Very watered down. And so you say it's supposed to be that way because it's a garden after a monsoon? Well, Demeter has a couple of garden petrichor scents that arguably do a better job. But despite a slightly sour opening, the scent profile itself of Un Jardin Apres la Mousson is pretty nice. And its weak performance is at least a little better than that of Le Jardin de Monsieur Li. I like Un Jardin Sur Le Nil and Un Jardin en Méditerranée, but both these latter two - Un Jardin Apres la Mousson and Monsieur Li, are disappointing. On to Sur la Lagune and a Cythere. Now my expectations are low.

During my first visit to the Hermes shop, my initial impression was, "Hmm, nothing particularly special, it's quite fresh, but I need more floral notes." However, as I decided to purchase their 15ml set, which I ended up with La Mousson, Terre EDT, H24, and L'ombre, along with an additional 30ml of La Lagune (I truly adore the floral essence in La Lagune).

Fast forward a month later, before bedtime, I decided to apply La Mousson, and to my surprise, I fell in love with it.

I could distinctly perceive the scents of ginger, pepper, and cardamom, which I hold in high regard. It was akin to sitting in a rainforest by a tranquil lake during cool weather. The fragrance resembled a refreshing, beautiful, and gorgeous blend, providing a soothing aroma that resonated deeply with me.

Now, I have made up my mind to invest in a full 100ml bottle of La Mousson.

QUENCHED ROOTS. This is still widely available, although it may be discontinued. Translated "A Garden After the Monsoon", overall this has an earthy 'after the rain' vibe, with cardamom & ginger flower evolving into water sinking down into soil around the golden ginger roots. A mix of aquatic ginger-flower, roots & damp soil. It has an initial aromatic spiciness from cardamom & ginger, with near-cucumber & vague florals to elaborate the ginger flower with Hermes style. Average, or slightly above average performance for a light summer wearing experience. The base is similar to many Hermes scents (Eau des Merveilles line especially). But this may be the point - a returning to roots - since smelling this also evokes imagery of roots being watered beneath the soil. But why ginger? Potatoes or carrots wouldn't have worked as well since after all, this is the symbolic pot of gold at the end of the rainbow....

istvan.buda.779

I've heard it is discontinued

Elysiom

Fresh rain. Summer melon. Ozone after a thunderstorm. Sweetness. Ginger. Gosh what is that at the back? Ah, there's the lily. I think it's the lily combining with the sweetened ginger that sort of reads like a 'melon', which doesn't sound like it makes sense but when you smell this you'll know what I mean.

Such a strange fresh masterpiece. Disagree about the ginger being too strong- I love ginger and would like more of it here. Slightly metallic. This feels like... if you were overheating on a very hot summer's day, one spritz of this would cool you down. This is just...

It's complex, and well made. Fresh summer rain in a bottle. Not super herbaceous. Fresh without being cloying. Sharp without being too metallic. Strong without being overpowering. Clean without being soapy.

And the melon isn't a true melon. It's like getting a whiff of cinnamon and saying you smell apple pie- it's not, you're just smelling something that suggests it to your brain. Its the lily, combined with everything else, that comes close to that synthetic 'watermelon' that we have in american sweets. But if you stick with it and tease out the other scents, you'll be able to distinguish what it really is.

Frangipanilove

This was apparently Jean Claude Ellena’s own favourite in the Un Jardin series. I had high hopes for this, finally getting it to my collection, but alas its not for me. You will only like this if you are extensively fond of raw ginger. There is a lovely melon aquatic note in the beginning which I would really like to stay and be more prominent but sadly the ginger barges in and takes over like a larger than life 50+ stage actress with too much makeup and large lung capacity. I felt like a ginger cookie all day when wearing this - which I am pretty sure was not Jean Claude Ellenas intention. Will re-evaluate in slightly cooler weather.

Zahraa555

Airy fresh peppery ginger with coriander! Very aquatic and easy to wear during hot summer days. When I spray this I think of a rainy forest.
I smell the “watermelon” in here, but for some reason I also get metallic lavender in the dry down.

j4yt33

This reminds me of a Moscow Mule, a drink with ginger ale (ideally the spicy version), Wodka and cucumber slices. Fresh, wet, zingy and cool

Comicalcupcake

Gorgeous ginger cardamom opening. Mellows out into a criminally soft-spoken musky spicy creamy drydown. As it goes about 4-5 hours this way, you could take this ride three times in a day and smell the colors change. I'm loving it now in spring but we also tend to have a hot early fall here and I think it would be perfect for that September weather when the summer won't let go but you still want to embrace the coming harvest.

weazal

Soft fallen snow or pure spring waterfall with clean laundry and dewy ripe honeydew that’s not sweet.

Turns more watermelon and fresh cut cucumber as it warms, while the soapy cardamom base adds balance.

Close to being a must-own due to it radiating indescribable fresh rain/laundry, but the base notes hold it back along with a dry down that's a little too shampoo. Not bad - worth trying.

alternateu

beautiful, wet, juicy, spicy fragrance.
aptly named "apres la mousson" - after the monsoon - you get that beautiful wet misty air, with the heaviness of the spice fields lingering in the air... it's "petrichor", but specifically, spice-field petrichor. beautiful.
a masterpiece, feels like a dreamy watercolour painting.
the coriander isn't my favourite thing on my skin - it turns ALMOST in a "curry-like" direction, but it's near negligible until the drydown.
decent longevity (maybe 5+ hours?) with average projection - not bad for the un jardin range.

LMBelvi

The ginger opening was really cool and zingy. Then the coriander turned me off (as it often does). Then florals kick in and I can understand why some reviewers said it brings to mind a waterfall. It became pleasant and soft.
I would not buy this in the future but the decant I have will make a nice change from the scents I’ve relied on this winter.

on-that-day

Finally got my hands on half a 50ml bottle - no samples exist for this, and based on the reviews I deduced it was not a safe blind buy (agreed!). The notes all look good to me, but like everyone says, they're pretending there's no melon in this and there is ABSOLUTELY melon in this. The opening fairly smacked me in the face with a honeydew/cantaloupe melon - after a horrible alcohol blast, but my bottle is probably fairly old - and I thought all was lost. I didn't even know I disliked melon before now, as I avoid fruity/gourmand scents like the plague. Now I know (and knowing is half the battle).

After a couple of minutes, the watery, sugarsweet melon yuckness grew conflicted. My notes for this read "melon melon melon my god what I have done WAIT. Nice things are happening??" And they were! Cardamom came out, spicy fresh, followed by a green soapy coriander - I have the coriander mutant gene so it always smells and tastes like soap - and began an epic fight with the melon. It fought back hard, clinging to the end of every sniff. "Die, melon," I thought. "Die in the fire of the other notes. PLEASE die!"

As we headed into drydown, I thought the coffee I was drinking might have been obliterating the dreaded melon, but thankfully it was just losing the battle with the rest of the notes. It was like the cardamom and coriander had sent for back-up, and the cavalry swooped in to Save The Day. A piercing, but somehow fresh black pepper led the charge, followed by warm ginger which signalled the beginning of the end. The final combatant was vetiver, and the melon could take no more, departing at last with its tail (stem?) between its legs.

Now I'm wearing a light perfume, aromatic and a little warm, clearly aquatic but with distant hints of powder that might be attributed to the lily. No single note stands out anymore, just a gentle, delightful fragrance that does, indeed, have a faint petrichor quality. A fragrance that is genuinely fragrant. It doesn't smell anything like an Indian restaurant, as one reviewers said; it's just like the post-monsoon Indian landscape that people not-from-India imagine. JCE is excellent at taking the ideas people have of what a place *would* smell like, and bottling that olfactory illusion. How is it green *and* warm *and* wet *and* dry? I don't know, it just is. Which is amazing and a bit weird.

If not for the melon note, I'd buy a full bottle, but its projection is very poor on me and I don't want to respray and go through that melon all over again when I'm enjoying what I have, even if I have to stick my nose to my skin to smell it. Similar to Monsieur Li, this would be a perfectly safe office scent if only because nobody else could smell it on you without breaking some HR rules.

I do love this scent a lot, though, and if I could bathe in the drydown, I would. Definitely worth trying if you get the opportunity, even if one of the notes seems like a deal-breaker. True unisex, moderate longevity.

The Deserter: Citrus. If it's in there, it's being subtle in the drydown and can't be distinguished. I don't get the floral notes, really, but I can sort of see where they might be. The citrus, on the other hand, went AWOL to avoid the Great Melon War.

klioux

Soft subdued ginger sparkle over a delicate watery petrichor note, a tinge of lily powder.

I love a real-life after the rain smell, but in perfume they often turn a little too dusty dry dirt on my skin, rather than the fresh loamy earth that I want. This one stays damp and fresh.

A scent like this only makes sense as an EDT, and the execution requires nuance and a delicate touch. I like this one like a well-kept secret.

linn.derella

A beautiful scent. Ginger, citruses and watery notes. I think this is a sophisticated and grown up version of all the cheapies who tries to be "fresh and clean". But I find it very masculine, not even unisex, and therefore it's not one of my favorites.

jero

It's only a wind... through my skin... lefting nothing. The thing in my mind being the most close to smell like water (in the nature), if it does make sense (to good Mr. Miyake:) Thanks @Maeva review (from 2014!), I found the word "bulrush" fits my impression to this monsoon just it's not listed as a note, and... if it does produce smell;)

Dani C.

This is my favourite from the Un Jardin line. So unique and pleasant at the same time. Apres La Mousson feels like being around the moist of a small waterfall in middle of the forest. Surrounded by spices, fresh cutted ginger, some greenery and flowers around. It also has the perfect level of sweetness. It doesn't get me lots of compliments to be honest but I wear this for myself, it's a huge love for me ❤️

bintTapputi

Light, watery, ginger tea. That is literally all this is, to an exact measure. Watery in that it smells like natural, fresh water some how. Not like a candle or a sporty fragrance, but extremely light, fleeting droplets of water going by and in the breeze the smell of fresh ginger. It's lovely. 6.5/10

dezaval

Very dewy and watery (not in the Cool water sense). I detect mostly watery notes as well as ginger and cardamon. Yes, it's an "after-the-rain" fragrance. No, no, I'll correct myself, it's not a fragrance... It's an experience, a memory from a summer rain. Beautiful!

Ivan sue

Smell is so so weak. Just freshly crushed ginger sense. Not worth it. Nothing special.

yy123

Watery fresh spicy musky, slightly green

agata1288

Cardamom, pepper, coriander seeds and vetiver all the way. Smells spicy, earthy and slightly sweet. I can't pick up any ginger or citrus from it. I really like it, although, similarly to all other scents from Jardin collection, longevity is quite poor.

venussansfurs

Not what I'd anticipated. Like an Indian restaurant in a jungle of rubber trees. Starts out with melon (not listed above) and there are some musty watery notes, but it's more spicy than aquatic, with tar-like elements. Most of this range is interesting to me, though not so wearable.

alphairone

We need rain here in New England this summer. The sun has been blazing every day, the forecast is that it will hit 96 degrees and relief is in order. Un Jardin Apres la Mousson (after the monsoon) is raindrops on large leaves and flower petals, refracting light and emitting aromas only released after a torrent.

It has a distinct note, a fresh cut ginger root, uncommon in fragrance as so often ginger ends up in more heavily spiced or gourmand contexts. Ginger lily also appears here, a beautiful and peculiar flower, Latin name Hedychium coronarium. It has a scent profile that is like a spiced champaca, with facets of freesia and an aqueous, vaguely spiced quality. I detect it through experiencing some solvent-extracted absolutes from the flower.

Wonderfully rendered watermelon and cucumber accords (leave it to Ellena to deliver) also fills the heart of the fragrance, without the sense that there is really any calone or overly-synthetic aquatic aromachems; it's quite impressive really. The contrast with black pepper is striking and keeps Apres la Mousson from feeling too sweet and unsubstantial, it leaves room for some shadows.

This is perhaps the most unique and compelling from the Jardin series, and certainly worth a sniff. It's my personal favorite from the line.

chrisk252

Soft, sweet, floral, fruity, pleasant spring scent. Might be too sweet for high summer heat, but a pleasant warm Spring day scent. Not a love and full bottle purchase for me, but a pleasant scent for a relaxing Sunday reading the newspaper or going into town for ice cream.

Scent: 7 / Sillage: 7 / Longevity: 6

tilapia_johnson

Freshly peeled ginger root and dewy ginger flower, followed immediately by the sweet relief of rain. Some reviewers have described a melon note but if there is one it isn't heavy synthetic calone, but a naturalistic cantaloupe found in the general water note. It follows the formula of the other Jardin fragrances, which are fresh, aquatic, light, and less about recognizable notes and more about an impression of a place. This fragrance is stone blue, and sounds like the orchestral samples in Bjork's "Venus as a Boy" to me, delicate and pure.

Saira.Manahil

A garden after the monsoon........ oh now this is just enchanting, I was looking for a perfume that could harness the smell of petrichor (the smell of nature after rainfall) and this fragrance MORE than delivered. The Jardin collection by Hermès is something special and this little beauty has so much character!

To me this juice truly smells like a private grove of fig trees that are laden with rain drops after a heavy storm, the air is thick, humid, and languid, capturing the green vegetal scent of the atmosphere. You can even smell the earthy richness of the damp flora and fauna. It’s a joyous scent that celebrates fertility through vitality.

My favorite fragrances are ones that transport me to a certain somewhere, and Un Jardin Apres La Mousson uses that deft Hermès finesse to make this particular scene come alive. love, love, loveeeeeeee

Enrium

Un Jardin Après la Mousson is my final Jardin to try, and also happens to be my least favourite. I love the inspiration behind it - India during monsoon season - but this is a flat, watery scent with a few spices thrown in. It isn't bad or unpleasant, and has its moments, but it ultimately disappoints. From a perfumer of the calibre of Jean-Claude Ellena, I expected more. In a nutshell, this is a unisex, fresh, slightly spicy aquatic scent, melon-heavy with spices added in.

The opening is fresh and watery with a nice ginger note, overwhelmingly reminiscent of ginger ale. Some cardamom and pepper add a more savoury, peppery edge to the ginger, but this is slightly discordant, reminding me briefly of dinner. However, it is light and fleeting enough, as well as offset by the fresh melon-citrus accord to not ruin this scent - instead, it just adds a little interest.

The spices subside as it develops, revealing the watery melon note which remains dominant until the drydown. It runs out of steam here - it is fine and fresh, but too linear. However, there is a nice vetiver note as it fades, adding a little grassiness. Performance isn't great however, even in comparison to other Jardins - sillage becomes quite intimate minutes after the ginger ale opening, while longevity is weak-to-moderate.

Not terrible, but not great, especially beside the likes of Un Jardin Sur le Nil and En Méditerranée. The melon drydown feels lazy in comparison with the deceptively complex olfactory watercolours that M. Ellena is known for. 2/5.

kate89

Quite dry and dark, but works wonderfully layered with Rose Amazone.

Gioia's secret

I don’t know whether it was reformulated, but when I was testing it first time, I have almost bought it, as it smelled like a forest after a rain🌧🌲🌳, it was really so special, but after that I was testing it in two different stores, it smelled very boring and I wasn’t able to detect the same atmosphere again🥺. So now I am afraid to buy it

upk

It's the scent of ginger ale. Fresh and punchy ginger scent with squishy and spices such as cardamom, pepper and coriander.

Zsuzsi0328

I like it as I love Jean Claude Ellena. However, on me it only smells of watermelon chewing gum, no complexitiy and certainly no spices. I was looking forward to a bit of India , especially Kerala being my favorite-but Watermelon Juicy Fruit it is. Its fun though.

RealWen

I get it that this frag is trying hard on spicy. But the opening of this one reminds me of lamb chop BBQ. Not my cup of tea. The dry down is much better. Also, how does hermes think this frag is reflecting its name? where is the rain and where is the garden? Id call it a backyard grill: satay and tikka masala.

Smellofcolor

The opening invokes memories of dried ginger coffee (ചുക്ക് കാപ്പീ) which is a soothing hot spicy drink with dried ginger, black pepper, cardamom, cumin, cloves etc, popular in Kerala in winter/monsoon, with the addition of flowers such as ginger lilies blooming in the background.
Theres only a hint of spicy floral on the skin within a couple of hours.

orangetomato

I do not get much of a rain or watery note. For the first 10 minutes or so I smell a strong bouquet of spices: cardamom in particular, but also ginger & coriander. I don’t get any melon at all!

It’s a lovely, unusual scent - I eat indian food all the time so I like these spices. I’m just not sure it’s all that wearable as a perfume for ME.

After dry down it is quite earthy. I garden a lot and I get a strong note of freshly turned damp soil mixed with a waft of the spice, particularly the coriander. I don’t think it’s particularly masculine, but it definitely isn’t what most people would think of as feminine. I’d say unisex leaning masculine if forced to choose. It isn’t airy & light nor is it particularly green unlike the other jardin fragrances. I have some jasmine oil from Nest and I’m thinking this smell would be lovely layered with the jasmine to lighten it up a bit.

This scent combination reminds me actually of the smell of a LUSH store back in the 2000s when it had a more woodsy, earthy, herbal smell though I don’t think there’s any patchouli note in this. It’s a similar sort of scent family, not the exact same. If you like those types of scents and yearn for the days when Lush wasn’t all citrus and rose, you might enjoy this a lot! However, get a travel spray or decant first. This isn’t one to blind buy a full bottle.

Kaew3T

I was really looking forward to this scent and nearly blind bought a full bottle. Luckily it was very difficult to find and so I only bought a small tester. It is a nice scent. I like it a lot but I don't think it is something I want to smell like because it reminds me too much of Indian food! I love Indian food but I definitely don't want to smell like it!

loding_lul

nice smell but the ginger kinda smells like mushrooms, idk if its just me but it has a kinda storng mushroom aftersmell, but i like the way its make still.

Minalerie

I love the way this smells. Damp, fresh, green, peppery, with a spice that elevates the experience. My complaint is the longevity. It doesn’t last more than an hour for me.

E.H.Tersono

I get aquatic melon from this, from the beginning to the dry down. It's very sweet but it isn't as sickly sweet as something like Acqua di Gio, it's much fresher, green florals underneath a melon.

huet82

Update: Wore this out on a pretty chilly day. Strong vetiver dominating the ginger note, and slightly green. I've never liked vetiver, but this was somewhat tolerable. I'm surprised I've never noticed it before.

I bought a decant before buying a bottle and the decant smelled much more like honeydew melon and less gingery. I don't regret buying the bottle though, and I reach for it fairly often. A pretty sweet gingery scent, leaning slightly feminine to my nose.

afluffyunicorn

This is easily the best fragrance from the Jardin line.

Very easy to wear on the daily smells spicy and fresh.
Nice brown shoes, jeans and a white shirt going into casual Friday you will feel like a million bucks with no cares in the world!

The opening for me is Ginger, pepper and cardamom while all floating in a pond of fresh water. Such a clean smelling fragrance.

It works really great on my skin but I can understand if someone thinks its very sweet.

Zaca

I grew up in the northern part of Australia (not India) with monsoons every year. It would have been appropriate for Hermes to omit the ‘Jardin’ part of the name and simply called this fragrance ‘Apres la Mousson’, with the keyword being ‘Apres’ (‘After’)

This is not the smell of an Indian garden with hibiscus, jasmine, oleander and bougainvillea after the monsoon, or the petrichor of rain hitting dry earth. This is the smell of vast plains of water in a tropical country a week or so after the monsoon has arrived: a mix of rainwater and vegetable matter just starting to decay. The ginger and cardamon give it an ephemeral spiciness, but it is far more freshwater aquatic than woody spicy.

It’s not an unpleasant fragrance but it has a very strong memory association and ‘sense of place’ to me personally: looking out the school bus window at lakes that seemingly appeared overnight after the long dry season, flocks of honking magpie geese, cheeky swamp hens, catching little fish and parental warnings not to swim near farm drains.

m1rrah

This is, by far, the most amazing perfume I've ever owned and smelled on my own skin. My only gripe with it is that it wears off after about 3-4 hours.

But the kick I get from it, that scent of raven earth after a lot of rain, in hot-humid weather - wow, is this perfect? I'm here looking for recommendations that tend to smell similarly but have more staying power. (Twilly d'Hermes was a good rec from my local Sephora, but a bit too sweet for me.)

ingeneuxo

-A warm, spicy scent that fares well in the tropical summer heat.
-I didn't expect to like this, but its probably my second favourite from the Un Jardin lineup.
-Lasts maybe 2-3 hours tops.

*Update*
-The cardamom/pepper note turned out to bear such close resemblance to food, I just don't see myself reaching for this.
-Not fbw unless you're a die-hard cardamom or Jean-Claude Ellena fan. (-)

brokesta911

Hermes Un Jardin Apres La Mousson (2008) - Ginger Dew - #jeanclaudeellena is a master in using Cardamom. He’s able to bring out its fruity and spicy facets. In this fragrance, he mixes that accord with Ginger, Pepper, Coriander with a base of Sea Water and Vetiver. Refreshing.

Very similar to Un Jardin sur le Nil, but then sweeter. Too sweet for me. Would prefer le Nil to this one for sure.

Smells like a fancy garden party, with lime and lemon based cocktails and good looking people laughing at the lightness of life. Only the drinks are mixed too sweet by a not so capable bartender.

Liz-frag

This perfume is beautiful , unique and pretty . It is funny because I have tasted a cocktail on the tropical side of Australia during the rain season that was tasting like the smell of this beauty .
Refreshing , hydrating , good summer - spring scent .
Some people might think it’s masculine because of the ginger but I don’t really care ☺️ Not very good lasting power but I don’t mind respraying :)

valevaleria

Too much ginger for me... it is all I smell.

AmbuEnak

this is my fav fragrance from Hermes beside terre d hermes..
in my country ( indonesia ) there is a traditional food called "Nasi Kuning" and this nasi kuning have a lot variants.. and i just want to share about authentic nasi kuning in my town "east java"

and nasi kuning have a similarity scent with opening of this hermes..
ginger... turmeric.. coriander..all is blend together.. and i can detect very well from apres la mouson.
and from spicy group fragrance this apres la mouson is one of may fav fragrance...
i still remember when i bought this hermes in 2011 i wore this and my friend sniff on me and he said i smell some delicious foods on you. LOL just received unique compliment from this fragrance.

strawberryswitchblade

I‘ve been owning a bottle of this for ages but never really enjoyed wearing it. Something, I guess the ginger, gives off a slight buttery smell which I can‘t stomach. I do like the aquatic spiciness, though. Today, out of the blue I decided to layer it with Bath and Body Works 'At the Beach'. I love it! This concoction smells like an exotic beach in technicolor. It retains all the lush tropical vegetation vibe of Un Jardin sans the butter plus the salty, coconutty feeling of Beach

zind

This is perfect for when I look out my windows and see a foggy horizon. It is amazing how perfectly this creation fits the description of the moonsoon part!

The cool, gentle freshness and spices does indeed make it unique. And I bet it can make a man feel as manly as it makes me feel feminine. How is that even possible?

It's a chill summer (on the brink of autumn) day, and this is not out of place with my oversized wool-blend sweater. Though it is most appealing to wear during moist and rain, and generally on summer and spring days. Very soft, but leaves you with a clean veil of scenty mist.

I have to admit it may be more of a like than a love for me, as I somehow don't feel it's the best match with my personality. But I enjoy wearing it just because of that. We're all multi-dimensional and who we choose to be, when I wear this I choose to showcase something quite different than I usually do. I don't know if that makes sense? It's just something I imagine to smell on a woman far more clean, proper and put-together than myself.

elliya1980

My first best spicy and aromatic fragrance. When I looked at the notes and how the story illustrated behind this perfume, I was very interested in this. It's true and I am very satisfied with my blind purchase. It's fresh and doesn't make me nauseous or have a headache. but it will too spicy if I apply to much in hot weather.

July 2020

After being MIA for a long, long time on Hermes.com, I was delighted to find that it is now available again and not discontinued (Hermes prefers the term "rested") as I had thought. To me, this aromatic, transparent ginger/pepper/cardamon frag is the most unique of the Jardin line and I thought it rediculous that it was not as avail as the other 5.

People complain that this is the most masculine of the line. I guess so? But I dont like manly scents and I wear it bc it's different. I do only wear it in certain times -- usually in the summer when it's raining. LOL. The name really is evocative of the scent.

I am pasting the current copy from the website as they change it from time to time:

"A serene expression of nature’s rebirth after the monsoon rains." Jean-Claude Ellena

Un Jardin après la Mousson explores unexpected aspects of India, when the monsoon gives back what the sun has taken from the earth, and drives away the scorching breath of drought. In this novella, ginger, cardamom, coriander, pepper and vetiver tell the story of nature’s rebirth, captured in Kerala in a world overflowing with water.

Olfactory strolls through the different annual themes of the house, the Les Jardins fragrances attest to genuine encounters between the Hermès spirit, the soul of a place and the perfumer-composer.

A garden of serenity, striking yet soothing, where the freshness of Kahili ginger mingles with cool spices.

Olfactory emotion: Fresh, Delicate
Main raw materials: Butterfly ginger, Cardamom, Coriander

I have Un Jardin En Mediteranée, Un Jardin sur le Nil, and now recently I purchased this. This is BY FAR by favorite. The others were lovely but this is just so unique. I love ginger so I blind bought because people commented on how ginger-heavy it is but actually I probably wouldn't have minded if there was a bit more (that's just a personal preference though, there's still plenty of it). It starts with the most interesting melon smell, but there's a little something else in there too and altogether it's very soothing and cool. Then the spices come into play. They're prominent but I don't think it's overkill. I smell lotus like someone else mentioned, but it's not listed. I probably wouldn't buy second bottles of the others but this one I will definitely be purchasing again.

skeleton

I can’t believe melon is not a listed note! To me this is a sligthly spiced cantaloupe melon with a acquatic touch. Normally an acquatic melon is something I couldn’t stand but I do enjoy this! It’s very summer-y, a bit sweet bit still has a cool feeling to it. I feel sort of fresh and fun wearing this.

m.ali.b1996

A sweet spicy perfume but not warm.
Cardamom and ginger usually can't be cold but here they are!
Cold like mint or melon.
Mr. Ellena wanted to make a perfume with the smell of Indian jungles after monsoon rain and he used mineral watery notes beside vetiver to do it.
Ginger and cardamom make it fresh and sweet and have an important role in our perfume.
Also I can feel black pepper in this aroma.
It's a good idea for having a good day in summer.

Jean-Claude Ellena is an artist. However the qualities of most of his perfumes are very fleeting and as for me they are beautiful and evocative paintings in the clouds and my only thoughts were that these would last on clothes and skin in monster mode.

This perfume paints a real picture of a pond full of pink lotuses with smell of the coming of monsoon clouds. At the moment here in Sri Lanka we are in the middle of the monsoon and just before the rains there's this very beautiful fragrance of the dust kicked up by the droplets of rain hitting the earth. The highlight for me (and my wife) is the corona of the pink lotus flower (which is not mentioned here). It is a thick and fleshy, sunflower-yellow part which is surrounded by the petals.

This fragrance makes me feel sentimental of the beautiful monsoon weather and is a very beautiful yet (again) a fleeting composition.

Ideal for day time and warmer or monsoon days
Dusty, lemony, fresh lotus flower.

anna-fie

I think this might be a bit to masculine for my taste..
The spices are prominent and I also smell Liquorice root.
I will probably give this one to my fiance.

molly1217

Stimulation of ginger into my nasal cavity, resonate with spicy pepper, perhaps because coriander, clammy instead of drying, the rich fragrance of vetiver, such as rainforest climate.
If you can accept, it is definitely the most unique garden series.

marcel2782

There is a sweet, natural and quite aqueous odor here, leading the central single chord (sweet + natural + aqueous = ideally fruity) - but highly undefined, and maybe this fruity vibe could be put on the account of the cardamom. There is not much direct reference to melon/cantaloupe, it is necessary to make a mental effort to make this association, but I agree that it works AFTER this effort. The pepper is here, but as rarely seen in perfumes with pepper, it is here carrying it totally and just for taste - which is great, because there is no more common mistake in perfumery than excessive pepper. Deep down there is a very nice floral aspect, as expected. Intimate-to-satisfactory performance, as expected. Very versatile.

brokesta911

Starts with a ginger accord, then transforms into a cantaloupe & cucumber mixed with spicy ginger & cardamon.

Refined, Refreshing & unique. Perfect for humid climates. If you care about longevity, I recommend that you purchase the 15ml Traveler bottle. You can spray every 2-3 hours.

seagreentangerine

If a feeling could smell... This perfume would be that moment when you know you're going to break up with someone you love so much. You burst into tears and cry for days at the edge of the ocean, the wet warm September winds lashing at your whole being... Then... you feel the light touch of sunshine on your face, as the storm begins to break, the tears stop, the salt slightly crusting around your eyes... You start to smell the fragrance of a wet tropical garden behind the sands.. and sunbeams dance a rainbow across the sparkling sea...

I know, it's bizzare, but I feel very melancholy and all wistful and nostalgic whenever I smell this. It's a very powerful and emotional fragrance and yet it never featured in my life in the way I describe it. Very intriguing scent from Ellena... Did he want to capture heart break and hopefulness... Hmmm! Clever x

lmwimsatt

Is this DCd? I cant find it anywhere the other 5 are sold. I'd live to try it

octobertragedy

The main notes I get are fresh cut ginger and black pepper. Strangely enough the mix of notes make me think of something very green and watery. I see some people say that has water melon notes, true, but to me there are very obvious green tea notes. This is how I imagine a green forest in a extremely humid climate would smell like. Spices, tea and water drops...
Where I live, this would translate in a spring and summer early morning scent. Very sunny, green, full of power fragrance, like an energy drink. A fragrance that seems to whisper constantly: "you can do it!" lol.
I agree, it has that unisex vibe, but a very unique one. Good longevity on me, a little bit too loud with ginger in the opening. Drydown has bitter sweet notes of herbs, liquor and melon juice.

Eugenia Olesen

Interesting composition and very demanding to the weather conditions. I feel petrichor and some fennel. Reminds me of New Zealand from Demeter Fragrance. The longevity of this leaves much to be desired though. Two or three hours as a maximum and it leaves my skin without even saying Bye-bye. Overall refine and almost impalpable scent. Nice one.

lgbailey86

How on earth is melon not listed as a note. I get a very clear rind of unripe honey dew smell from this. Ginger note is soft, buttery, not sharp or citric and the peppery facets in here are not biting.

They are, however, unique and interesting. The pepper is a white uncrushed dried peppercorn scent. Helps separate this from many other melon heavy fragrances. So nice and exotic and interesting.

All of the Jardin fragrances are just impossible to pinpoint. Your first impression is different from the next and so on. This is very wet and juicy.

It is the opening night of the lion king and it just stormed here and is very hot and humid out! I am wearing this to the film and it seems so freaking awesome and appropriate.

VikingWoman

What a surprise! The moment I sniffed it I knew this, but it took a few hours untill I realized what it was - "Nu" from Yves Saint Laurent. They do have a lot of notes in common, cardamom being the most prominent. Also black pepper, bergamot and vetiver are in common. I am even pretty sure that NU used to have ginger in the eu de toilette making it very fresh. The only note they dont share is the strange, but not unwelcome; cucumbery/melonlike heavy wetness. It even suits this disguised NU with a little twist in this direction.
First out the bottle is a blast of the cardamom (something incense like too?), then after a short while comes fresh black pepper. The fresh wet cucumber/melon thing is quite prominent for the better part of an hour, but cardamom and pepper still lingers in the background. Then it becomes "Aqva Divina" from Bvlgary only without the creamyness from the beeswax (it is more green here). Dry out comes in 3-4 hours and is a hint of ambroxan and vetiver that creates the salty ocean (very subtle now).
It really is a chameleon that changes all the time, nothing remotely linear about this one. However if you dislike very spicy og incense rich scents you should try it first.

Edit: This has SO many secrets. Today it was a little cold and after
2 reappliances, it smelled different all of a sudden. A slight trail of powdery bourbon vanilla emerged. Not sweet but very powdery and discreet.A little like the powdery scent "Habanita" from Molinard. What a chameleon this is.

Bubbles1964

LOVE. A spicy, tropical garden next to the warm ocean. A ginger-cardamon bomb opening. Nothing else I own comes close to this one. It’s hard to get spices to work in warm weather, and Jardin apres la Mousson does exactly that; without any sweetness.

Underneath the tropical spice bomb is some kind of juicy melon, but the essence is light. I would not have known, but I read other reviews below and I agree. I cannot place it though; could be watermelon, cucumber or cantaloupe, or a combination of all three. Whatever is causing that sensation just adds to the layered complexity of this scent.

Good performance for an EDT, with soft projection. Recommend with reservations; the reviews are polarizing. It works on me and I want a back up bottle as I heard rumors this is, or will soon be discontinued.

liblazagu

I'm a female and I love this one. Precisely because it is not too sweet. It feels fresh and invigorating. What I smell: masala chai. I imagine is the cardamom and pepper in it. People say they smell something aquatic, but it is more like rain. Not like the sea. It is earthy not salty. People say they smell ginger, I could never put my finger on that one, but now that I have read the reviews, yes maybe. There is a spicy hot sensation in this fragrance.

I would highly recommend. It is one of the very few fragrances that over the years I have really loved. Mind you, I love the world of smell but never purchased many designer fragrances because most of the ones I stumbled upon in malls I found mellifluous or too in your face, or heavy and oppressing. Maybe I do not know how to search, or cared to search. (just recently I found there are decants)

Anyhoo, try this if you are like me. Others I have liked if that tells you anything are: ck one, Paco Rabanne XS pour elle (1994), Caron Fleur de Rocaille (1993), farenheit (back in the 90s edition). YES I'M OLD... but I'm young in spirit :)

justfloral

I tested it and think it is more on masculine side.

After spraying it's enigmatic - nice fresh watery with prominent pepper and cardamon (I have even detected willows). But after half an hour it turns masculine, maybe due to coriander note, I can scent an aftershave (Aspen?).

Coquita

The first time I got this sprayed on I got circled by a very powerful cardamom-pepper mist. My grandparents had a pepper tree in their yard, and that was exactly the smell I was getting. I fell in love with the feeling it evoked in me. After twenty minutes, the scent gradually started to change: the ginger began to appear, and so did a subtle floral scent. These got stronger by the hour until completely overrunning the spicy scent, which lingered very subtly in the back. The dry down is mostly ginger with an aquatic feeling.
My overall impression is like a walk in a botanical garden after the rain with all its flowers in bloom; I've never smelled something as evocative. The only problem? My partner says it smells like watermelon chewing gum. I've read a lot of similar comments, so I assume it's the ginger-floral-watery scent that takes this path in some noses. I do get a very sweet whiff after the second hour is gone, but I wouldn't describe it like melony. Its a pity, because if this is your case, you're truly missing something beautiful here :)

FabulouslyLazy

This one was on my want list. Eventually I had to give up the purchase because each time I tested it on my skin there was something wrong.

The opening blast of cardamom is amazing, I really love it alongside the peppery feeling. The problem comes up later, when it becomes too aquatic and kinda 'rotten'. Stagnant water, that's what it is - I know this is supposed to be a garden after the monsoon, but on me it's too literally the smell of wet greenness and soaked spices.

Ginger is absolutely prominent. I think that this Jardin doesn't feature ginger root but its stems because the smell is less zesty and more herbaceous. I really thought I couldn't ask for more, yet almost paradoxically this is not enough.

So sad it doesn't work with my chemistry because I like so much the idea that lies underneath the fragrance. I love every single spice and ginger and everything...but no way. My skin amplifies the worst of it. Sigh :(

Dorange Sense

I had great expectations. The name sounded really promising. But all I get is a soso aquatic scent. Almost Chanel Chance Eau Fraîche. Not sweet thankfully. But yeah, unfullfilled expectations of earth and humidity, abstraction.
The better Après la Mousson is Demeter Dirt imho.

ishouldbebetterthanthis

Reading through these reviews has been so interesting--scent really is subjective, eh?

Anyway, I love this. On me, I get sweet ginger, freshly grated, and coarse black pepper. There is a tiny hint of melon, but nothing obnoxious. With a bit more time, the sheerest floral, like a soaked water lily, peeks through. This smells expensive and smart.

Mas777

Pardon....but where is the cantaloup? Where's the melon? I smell spices, flowers, water but not at all these fruits.
Do you really know these fruits' essence people? I live in Italy, I'm italian and these fruits are very common here.
By the way, I like Un jardin apres la mousson, I think it will be my go-to fragrance in autumn. Summer is too hot for it.

natalilancom

If you want to feel the smell of rain on your skin, I recommend for you Un Jardin Apres la Mousson Hermes. The theme of water, rain, wet leaves and grass are main notes in this composition. The feeling of rain creates the freshness of ginger and pepper, and then the warmth of soft and delicate spices plays with your mind. This "rainy" composition is simply amazing, airy and watercolor, like a real warm autumn rain. This fragrance creates a mood of gentle melancholy and nostalgia for the hot summer. It is spicy-warm and miraculously blends with the natural scent of the skin. This fragrance likes a sexy underwear, which no one sees, but it is only your secrett.

Seducianne

Most personal and intimate fragrance I have ever smelled. Beautiful and nostalgic blend of aquatic and citrusy notes on my skin. I would say it smells like rain in the italian countryside, during spring. Not a sunny smell, actually I would classify it as rather sad. There's nothing heavy or violent about it, but it's a very introspective and wishful fragrance. Almost like a memory. It stays rather linear on my skin, it's not invasive in any way, but it's there and people will almost wonder what it is, without even being sure IF there's something there. I would say it would make a great signature scent for a woman who could pull it off. But an ordinary "pretty, sexy, feminine" girl wouldn't. I'm thinking it would fit a very deep, mature and at the same time serene person. Ageless perfume as well. Could be worn by a 20 year old or a 70, as long as the spirit is there.

bal026

Well I have never wore a perfume with this particular scent, it is very freshy and green... like it at all, but I need to say that I feel better wearing it in personal moments instead of job time!
Longevity and sillage on me is very good, around 10hrs and I still feel the aroma!
Dont risk in a blind buy, please taste it before.

mirenaf

I remember going to several shops at the airport in Paris and the perfume that grabbed me was this one. My first perfume of Hermes. So different, fresh and unique. There is something in this perfume that makes me go back and forth over the years and always have a new bottle waiting to be opened. Ginger gives it incredible diversity. When I spray with it always ask me what this perfume is. Hermes make
perfumes that are not for every taste, but definitely the bravest ladies can enjoy their creations

Lishypants

The most predomonant note is a melon opening thats watery and fresh. Cantaloupe and honeydew with flowers from spice trees - not the actual spices. I really like spicey scents but this is strangly not very spicy. More fresh watery and fruity with subtle spice.

I do detect pink pepper beery leaves and green coriander, but not much cardomom or ginger unfortunetly. Opens very sweet but that sweetness drops off quickly. Would love this if it had better longevity.

I love most of the Jardin range but unfortunely this one fades quick on me, but projects well especialy in the sumer heat.

blackmartini

This is a beautiful creation but very hard to pull off imo. As in, the scent ends up wearing you, rather than you wearing it. It really paints an exotic decor and transports you to another place, another time. A very emotional perfume...

Art

Garden after monsoon?

This fragrance has strong sweet melon and warm coriander at the opening but I can't see it in the pyramid note, feeling smooth spices like black pepper and sweet cardamom on middle. Base note are warmer with vetiver on background. I can't say it exactly feeling like garden after the rain, but it fruity freshness fragrance for sure. I like blending of cool melon and warm spices. Good fragrance, but moderately silage and moderately longevity. Good smells with very naturally without synthetic.

sz.galambos

If people find CK reveal and CH men+privé and CH good girl sweet, I wonder what would they say to this?

This is sweeeeeeeet. Smell? Kiwi with some slight citrusy wibe. Like the green, kiwi flavoured gum-bears melted in cloth detergent. It's F. weird, yet pleasant. Edit: after 2 hours it gets a nice anise-like note.

LostHesperid

I already had Un Jardin en Mediterrannee and Un jardin sur le Nil, both of which I love. So I had high hopes for this one after reading all those positive reviews. But boy was I disappointed !

The first time, I only tried it on paper and it smelled fantastic, very aquatic and cucumberish, very fresh, I loved it. I didn't get any spice on paper though. Two days later, I proceeded to try it on my skin (wrist) and yuck was it gross !!! I was still getting the fresh aquatic cucumbery note in the background, but I was also getting a very strong pungent smell of heavy spices and rotten milk. Probably it's the cardamom/dill/coriander accord that doesn't agree with my skin. The smell was just foul and putrid.

Puzzling though as I don't really smell the coriander -which is an herb I love in food- nor do I smell the dill that much. But I guess those two provide the earthy dirty smell. The cardamom on the other hand provides the heavy spicy scent. Some people spoke of Chai Masala for this frag, well I'd say instead Chai Masala gone bad ! That horrible smell lingers for quite some times before fading away and it eventually leaves you with the original aquatic cucumber scent that smells quite nice. But it's far from enough for me to buy this frag. It just doesn't agree with me. My first disappointment from Un jardin...

jeca

I do not see it among Jardins any more ;o( and this one is the best of them all. Citrusy and slightly marine, very refreshing, never boring, inoffensive, but present.

This was the first perfume in my life that created a tactile space around me. My whole family smelled the space and saw the picture. A stone edged pond full of clearwater and pink lotus in full and half bloom, The heavy, grey, monsoon cloud overshadows the garden and creates a half shadowed pond and pours its cool droplets on mother earth.
There is the faint smell of dust from the earth that lingers in the air.The heart of a pink lotus, the golden yellow heart of the flower, fragrant, mysterious but uplifting. Cool monsoon rain, sunrays beaming through the branches and trees. A dark thicket beyond the pond, A lonely but content old house, where I sit and look out at the rains.

This is an unmistakable fragrance, the only one of it's kind.Positive and content, uplifting and spiritual.

Ideal time: Summer / Daytime
Clothes: Casual, Light

Content: Will not bother anyone.

I just got a travel sized version of this perfume yesterday. Smelled the scent from the bottle and it was incredible. Didn't even spray it on myself... risky but it was only a small size. Sprayed it after purchasing and it smelled incredible. Like a spring/summery warm aquatic scent that lasted the rest of the day.

Today after a shower I sprayed the perfume again. It's interesting I keep getting whiffs of the perfume (projection is good but not overpowering) and I feel as though I'm getting two different scents. The most prevalent is almost a powdery rain scent and then occasionally I will get that yummy sweet and complex scent I originally smelled yesterday. I'm wondering if it's the combination of my Dove body wash that is contributing to the more powdery scent.

To be honest I'm hoping it won't always smell this way on my body.. I'll try it on again another day with not immediately after a shower to see if there's a difference.

Neckromancer

This smells very herbaceous and savory to me. I smell salt and and pepper and something sort of herbal...I thought basil or dill, but looking at the notes, I think it's the coriander. It reminds me of men's aquatic colognes like Green Irish Tweed.

memento___mori

I love to wear this perfume during the warm, summer days, because it is just so very fresh. It is up there with my to-go light and fresh scents like Eau d`Hadrien by Annick Goutal, Calyx by Clinique, Un jardin sur le toit and.. maybe not so light, but also super fresh, Womanity by Thierry Mugler. This one starts with a lovely blast of hologram-like cardammom and ginger, to quickly develop and stay in a watery, peppery watermelon. It is a lovely perfume.

Catty

Sorry, but I will not pay 70-80 euros for a scent from a traditional French maison to smell at the end like a melon!!!! No thanks!

lemmenkukka

Lovely everyday scent, summerish. Like being on a vacation near beach. I´m happy to own a bodylotion from this line and I like it a lot. It has a calming effect to my mind, a true stress-reliever. Considering of buying the edT.

Too much melon

CatherineB9

I get LOTS of cardamom. Personally I don't like smelling like chai masala - I prefer to have cardamom in my tea or dessert not on my skin. I do smell India after the monsoon, lots of water and spices popping up. It's nice, just not for me.

I think this is a clever perfume, unusual and delicate. The melon smell is appealing to me, but I'm not sure I enjoyed it on my skin. It wasn't strong enough for me when I smelt it on my wrist. The mystery is there though, and I love the images it conjures up when you think of the title. It succeeds in what it sets out to be.

socorrosouza

To me it is a very light flower-y spice-y scent, delicious but fleeting, the aroma of torn flowers on a bed of spices. Love Ellena's perfumes, so ethereal, but they don't last long on me.

AshesM

My fav. My signature, especially as I'm Indian. On me this is not melon or sickly sweet at all. It's a hit of cardamom mainly with a beautiful blend of other sweet spices. I feel like a tall glass of masala chai! It has a strong sillage, and I feel like I'm floating in an intoxicating aromatic cloud all day long. While there is a slight corianderey quality to the perfume it's not repulsive at all. And unlike what some people mentioned it does not smell rotten whatsoever. I can see how it's polarising though, but for me it evokes all the childhood memories of a monsoon cloudburst: the smell of wet earth (no smell like that anywhere in the world), a warm blanket and a hot cup of spiced chai!

itskhajayall

I am not really a fan of fruity fragrances but this smells great and is not very sweet/sickly. I instantly smell melon/cantaloupe but dry downs more fresh rather than sweet. Amazing summer scent!

Victoria Regia

Full disclosure: I am a female, and I generally dislike melony-aquatic scents. Onto the review: I visited my Hermes store today with the intention of purchasing Un Jardin sur le Nil. It's Summer time here in Pennsylvania, so of course the weather is hot and humid. I tested this fragrance on a whim and left the store for a cup of iced coffee to let it develop on my skin. Ten minutes later, I went back and bought it instead of sur le Nil. I remember testing this and hating it when it first came out. I thought it was the weirdest fragrance I had ever tried!.Quite frankly, I was repulsed by it. I thought it smelled like musty, aquatic and weird. Fast forward to today, and I ended up buying it. Go figure! It starts with vegetable sap, melon and black pepper, but it dries down smelling like clear water and a light, freesia-like floral. Very elegant and delicate. Perfect for a hot day like today. It felt so clean and calming I just had to have it. For the gentlemen who dislike sweet and fruity scents, fear not - this is dry, clean and discrete, and there is a good chance you will like it, too! And like another reviewer mentioned, I think there are more notes to this fragrance than what they are listing on this website.

deakrek

All I get from this one is wet dirt scent. Very earthy with the odor of wet vegetables, mostly cucumber. I would suggest this one for male users who are very outdoorsy and have a decent beard. I could enjoy smelling them wearing this but on me it was plain weird.

Vegas Pauli

Fresh and peppery, but with sweet floral-fruity undertones, this is way more complex than the five notes listed indicates. Sweet, fresh, watery and slightly soapy with a fleshy ripe cantaloupe after taste. Like all Hermes, it's all natural with not a false or synthetic note in it. While its unisex in nature, I'm gonna say this veers more feminine, its very delicate, soft and flowery. But as man, I love the way this smells and would reach for it on occasion during the heat of the summer months. Im a bit biased as I'm a sucker for all Hermes scents. Thumbs up, its a good one.

Hendricks Gin and Apres La Mousson seem unlikely bedfellows but the mind of this reviewer pays homage to Passage to India, A Jewel in the Crown and a nip of W. Somerset Maugham into the bargain. There is a metholated burst at the opening and the gin kicks in. How odd that a Frenchman encapsulated the Raj in this way.
Recalling India's history I observe the gamine eyes of the Fishing Fleet narrowing at the spiced nuances of ALM. I'm sure they wore Jicky, thick with quintessential lavender, or whatever preceded it. Come hither, said the spider to the fly, be seduced by the stunning beauty of Indian women who didn't perfume themselves with the contents of a Turkish brothel. This, surely, is what evaporated from their skin; Melon, cinnamon, and tulasi, the holy basil. Seduction of a different kind.

He's a clever man, that JCE. Only for the broadminded, this piece of history. As our summers are sub-tropical in the North I enjoy APLM at that time. This is my choice of fragrance if we eat at Thai or Indian restaurants. Note: The reference to the Fishing Fleet is the sarcastic name given to English women of good family sent to India to find a husband from the (single) serving officers of the Raj.

It's opens with strong new fresh pulled from the ground ginger still have the dirt on it and noticeable spicy note from the pepper. A few minutes later it settles to melon. No sillage, project almost moderate. At the first sniff on paper i think it was my number 2 hermes jardin set but now i might have to think about it again.

JardinHomme

After sniffing the entire Jardin series at an Hermes boutique, this is the one I chose to take home.

I plan on using this mostly during spring/summer, but it's also sublime during Mediterranean winters where it drizzles but never snows. This unisex perfume may be meant evoke Kerala after the monsoon season, but it's still raining softly in this Indian garden.

Un Jardin Apres Las Mousson starts off smelling like a a freshly cut and peppered cantaloupe that was left at the base of pond reeds during a light drizzle. It then blossoms into a wet cucumber, coriander, and ginger infusion with cantaloupe and rain still in the background. It's fresh with a watercolor brushstroke of murkiness, quietly aquatic without the saltiness of marine calone. It's airy, but the skies are saturated and grey.

In the most abstract sense this is how I imagine beautiful dreams smell like, so I wear it to bed after showering, and spritz my pillows with it. The bottle may not last long that way, but at least I'm enjoying it!

lilred

One of my favorites in spring! It truly reminds me of freshly fallen rain combined with the spiciness of cardamon and vetiver. The 'après la Mousson' part is true, recognizable by the travellers amongst us ;). If you love some fresh spiciness, this one is a great one for during the day and especially when you spend the day outside in the park or light hiking.

witchinghour

I blind bought this because I am always looking for fresh scents that are green as opposed to obvious and sweet; because I decided that any scent I wore regularly had to perfectly represent my personality; and because I kept obsessively Google searching "perfumes that will make me smell like a freshly mowed lawn" "perfumes that will make me smell like a forest after it rains." On my skin the peppery note and the melon/cucumber notes come off most strongly--the scent is so interesting, it keeps my nose to my wrist until it fades. Which is admittedly too soon. the faint undertone of melony sweetness is just the right amount of femininity for me.

Sometimes it feels to me like complexity and strength of the scent are trade offs. You get complicated, ephemeral scents or you get long lasting, strong ones. This perfume has all kinds of complex notes that emerge over its lifespan on your skin, but it is something people will smell only with their nose practically to your neck. (Luckily, ever since I started wearing this perfume, my partner does this with regularity.) I might not go for this perfume if I was looking to grab attention in a room full of people--I think it's better suited for a quiet moment with someone who knows you well already.

app9

Glorious! I fell in love head over heels today at the perfume counter. The cardamom note is so good, I just can't stop sniffing my wrist. It reminds me of a cold winters day, maybe even Christmas, since the spices (not coriander, though..) are commonly used at Christmas in Finland.

Old Herbaceous

There are notes in this lovely, cool perfume that are not listed above, including some kind of melony fruit (melon? mango?) and vetiver. The melon-like smell is not the inside of the fruit, though; it is more like the fragrant, intact outer rind of a fruit, the kind you would smell in the market stall to see if the fruit is ripe. I love this perfume. I like cardamom and I love the way you can smell that note right away when you spray Jardin Apres La Mousson, without it being overpowering. The ginger is there, but with a light touch. I'm not getting the cucumber others have mentioned but cucumbers, watermelons, melons and cantaloupes are all members of the Cucurbitae plant genus, so they are related; and the same scent might smell like one or the other of them to different people.
So on first spray, I get cardamom and melon rind. Then a touch of ginger and ginger flower, with a little pepper. As time goes on, I smell the coriander emerging but the melon rind and ginger flower linger, to be joined at last by vetiver.
I did blind buy this perfume because I have loved Un Jardin Sur le Nil, but this is a unique and distinctive fragrance. I love it but not everyone will, so maybe test first.

As soon as I smelled it, I had to have it, no ifs or buts. I tried on the tester and I was immediately transported to Kerala. My skin seems to amp up the ginger and melon and is followed closely behind by the beautiful aquatic notes and some cardamon. I've never smelled anything quite like it. Two of the ladies and another shopper were immediately drawn to my exclamations and also fell in love with it on the spot, one of them tried it and it was VERY different on her skin, still nice, but vastly different to how it smelled on me. The other shopper purchased it too, without trying it as she was already covered in perfume. It's my new signature scent, I can't imagine being without it now.

MademoiselleMaya

It's a great quality scent, perfect for hot weather, with just the ideal sillage and all day long longevity. It's an exotic garden, wet with rain, with bushy vegetation of dark green leaves, and as I revisited it this year, gave me a great day in such an exotic place. It's not too masculine on my skin, which is great, and I really loved it on me.

AnnaT

In our first encouter, all i got was spice spice spice and very musculine edge.

i let the bottle sits for half a month before a revist today. i discover that the spice is not that spicy anymore and it becomes milky and much less musculine.

edit: my bf smelled it on me in a very hot summer day. He simply exclaimed India. He said Mousson reminded him a lot of India and Indian tea.

Andrew Goring

I was very attracted by the listed notes of this fragrance. I'm a big fan of Hermes and Ellena. What could go wrong? I ordered a sample...
Initially I found Mousson rather nice. Quite light and good for summer but as time went on I became increasingly flummoxed as to where the listed notes were because mostly I was just getting melon. Ultimately it was too much melon, which with daily use became rather too sweet for my tastes, reminding me of the calone-heavy aquatics that I've been consciously avoiding of late! Not great lasting power either. Lovely box though!
Still nice to come back to on a hot day, when the mood takes you but it's not one I'm going to buy a full bottle of.

beibinis

Not a review but:

Wow, when I smelled this it always reminded me of garden after rain. Greenness and water, all these wet plants and vegetables, damp black-earth.

I am not french speaking but only now (just from curiosity)I translated the name of this fragrance and I was wonder-struck! It means " garden after monsoon". I had no idea...

Perfectly named fragrance.

Eos

Un Jardin Apres la Mousson is truly a strange creation to my nose. Like all JCE scents this is a sheer, luminous almost diaphanous creation. Somehow this manages to be both aquatic and spicy without being heavy or overbearing. In my mind its sort of the idealized fantastical scent of what it would smell like if you added fresh ginger to your sauna's steam. Its all at once clarifying, medicinal and invigorating but not really how I personally want to smell all the time. Interesting all the same.

Bretto66

I bought this on EBAY and just got it in the mail. My thoughts....delightfully understated......the crisp ginger opening mixed with lotus and cardarmon.....quickly moving into a fruity melon like scent.....this is beautifully anchored with a surging vetiver base.......do I like you Un Jardin Apres la Mousson......well of course.....nothing quite smells like a Jean-Claude Ellena perfume.

Expectation Played a Nasty Trick on Me

What “Un Jardin Apres la Mousson” promise to deliver: The scent of an Indian, more specifically a Keralean Garden, after rain. Kerala, lying in the South-West corner of India, is famous for it’s Back-Waters and lush green spice gardens. I expected to get the scent of these spice enriched gardens after rain, which are almost pungent green and intoxicating in it’s true sense.

What I actually get: “I am inside a small tea-stall, like those you get in almost every part of India. Is it raining outside? Yes, I can smell the water. Is it in some platations? No, not specifically, it is more in a Colonial City of India, which is near some large waterbodies, but not sea. It can be Calcutta or Cochin. For Calcutta it is the River Hoogly and for Cochin it is the backwaters. I have ordered a “Masala Chai”, since suddenly after rain it is a little relief, from the scorching sun. The “Chaiwala” or the Tea-Maker is boiling the cardamoms with milk. May be he has chopped very little pieces of ginger to add into tea also. The vapour of the cardamom infused milk, with the chopped gingers are coming to me. I am waiting for something more dramatic to happen. Nothing Happens. The perfume story ends”

Not so Good Point: I dare not to use the word “Bad” against Jean Claude Ellena’s creation. I definitely get very distinct notes of watermelon and/or cucumber present here. The representation of rain water with these notes did not worked for me.

Good Point: The interpretation of Indian rain with “Masala Chai” is a Bang on. We, who live in India, knows soo well, how the craze of this spicy drink increases during rain. I really would love to know how Jean Ellena got this view.

Overall, this perfume somewhat creates a cultural closeness with India and her rains. But I would love to get soo much more. I wanted to feel the rain..to get drenched…or atleast breathe in the wet air, which doesnot happen.

However, am not very much enjoying wearing this perfume and it should easily have slipped to my "dislike" zone. The only reason I am keeping it in my "like" zone is of the thought of the interpretation of Indian rain.

Sillage: Soft to Moderate
Longevity on my skin: 3 Hours approx
Longevity on cloth: Approximately 5 Hours
Occasion: It’s a very casual perfume. You may use it for office purpose also. Inoffensive and balanced for both genders. Though Indian Rains create magic for romance, I personally will not use this perfume in romantic ventures.

P.S: I am left with "Le Jardin de Monsieur Li" only. Still now "Toit" is the best among the Hermes Jardin Collection.

I love every package of the "Jardin Series" with their beautiful Motifs..and the motifs on "Un Jardin Apres la Mousson" is the best, with all those jungle-book style miniatures.

I think this is going to be my rainy season frag. Be warned though, this is not for the likes of everyone. If you want to go safe, go with sur le Nil or Mediterranee but Mousson is definitely more unique. To me sur le Nil is just so.. meh, forgetful and generic. Besides I think this one lasts the longest out of all the jardins.

One of my first "aqua" or "summer" fragrances. I have sampled many, but found this one to be a bit different and more fascinating than the more typical aqua fragrances. This is such an intriguing smell. For me it starts with a lot of melon, then a spicy ginger-coriander mix as it dries, followed by a very unique aquatic-cucumber-rose-vetiver-lime-pepper combination after dry down. It's a bit on the sweet side, but I think a great choice on hot summer days (or nights). It could be worn by either sex, but I find it to have a definite masculinity, especially with the vetiver and pepper. After dry down as the melon note lessons, the balance and complexity of the composition is extraordinary. It has very good longevity and I smell it periodically throughout the day....a fresh, invigorating scent, leading with melon, but also presenting the other notes in harmony. It is potent, so a little (1-2 sprays) goes a long way. Sillage I am still assessing, but seems to be above averags. Honestly I was not sure whether I loved or hated this when I first smelled it...it was sweet and sharp on the test strip. But after trying some on, the smell was not too sharp and took on a bit more of a musky character with the "body" of the fragrance more prominent...unlike the rest of the Jardin line, it has a heaviness or weight to it which is hard to describe, but for me lends to it being a more masculine expression.

I would not blind buy this one, and I would suggest trying some on to smell it through dry down and with your body chemistry before judging.

Edit: The longevity, projection and sillage are excellent. I get over 10 hours and about 6 feet of projection. Too much can be overwhelming, so less is more. Still very much enjoying this scent, though it is a bit sweet for my taste (a bit more musk would reallly make it perfect to me). I did have occasion to spray on a lady and can say this definately works as a unisex fragrance...sexy and fresh, very good as a summer scent.

fiouu

On my skin this smells like dry algae and plastic grass. Like a mix between wood and carrots. I don't dislike it but I don't care much for it either. It's rather strong but with not much sillage

I love all four perfumes from Un Jardin, and this Apres La Mousson is one of my favourite.

After my holiday in India, I sort of get it how Jean-Claude Ellena got the inspiration and call it Apres La Mousson (meaning Garden After Monsoon). It felt so fresh when the first rain drop from the sky and get a rid of the dusty & dryness of the air mix together with the smell of spices.

It opens up on a vivid note of cardamom, in contrast to cinnamon and a crisp fruity note reminiscent of sliced watermelon contrasts with the cardamom.

It perfect for a hot summer day

melzy

Of all the Jardins, this is my least favourite. I guess - with the ginger, cardamom and pepper - I was hoping for a light spicy scent, something along the lines of the original Bvlgari Omnia.

I grow (and preserve) my own vegetables, and my first thought after applying this fragrance was 'gherkin relish'. In fact, it's halfway between gherkin relish and pickled cucumbers, with a dash of something melon-like thrown into the mix.

I think that melon-like, aquatic freshness is supposed to evoke the feeling of monsoon rain, so Ellena has hit the nail on the head there.

In summary: perhaps it's just my skin chemistry, but this one is not for me. Longevity was short on my skin, around 2 hours. Worth a try if you enjoy fresh-green, lightly spicy fragrances. I don't feel it's a safe blind buy.

SNOOPY

As many reviews have already stated my initial impression was melons or cantaloupe even though the note is not listed.
But the note combination evokes this in the same way many different kinds of alcohol can be mixed to taste like something unrelated.
Just ask a bartender to make you an oatmeal cookie if you do not believe me.
The pepper and cardamon and ginger are there but i thought it would be more watery given the name monsoon.
I liked the first 2 better than this one, havent tried the fourth except on paper.
It did last because i got bored with it and washed it off as there was not much development.
Just more melons.

birdy

it's like cristalle de chanel stronger, greener, younger, fresher.

mister_chaz

It opens strong and peppery, some reviewers mention melon - I tend to agree, there's something fruity to it, especially in the opening. The scent is bright, refreshing, androgynous... I like it. Unfortunately, it only lasts ~4 hours on me.

hod

It has a fruity vibe - probably because of the cardamom - ginger combo. longevity is solid - 8 hours and projection is fine. I tried it few times and i love its smell - it's quite unique - though it is similar to CK euphoria for men (the original)
they share some notes. check it out!

laantjebanaantje

This is such a great, atmospheric perfume.
It opens up with a spicy, peppery, green wetness (fresh ginger maybe?). It's not a sharp green, but a tropical green. Heavy, rich and deep. Then the melony notes arrive and the fragrance becomes sweeter, but never too sweet. It retains an almost translucent character. Ginger, pepper and cardamom manage to cut through the ripe aquatic sweetness and provide balance.
I should not like this fragrance. I don't like aquatic scents and I really don't like melon notes in a scent. But here, the melon is beautifully abstract and the aquatic notes are so masterfully blended. There really is a sense of relieve after a heavy tropical downpour.
Maybe that's the secret of this deceptively simple scent: the aquatic wet feel here is not cooling or refreshing, it is hot and humid.
It's like mini journey in a bottle.

I jumped on Un Jardin Apres La Mousson , with great enthusiasm , how could I forget Un Jardin Sur Le Nil first whiff experience !
My first whiff of Un Jardin Apres La Mousson , will be also memorable! Super galore sweet ripe weird cantaloupe melon, cloying would have been an understatement , that melon followed me all day long as a sticky / creepiest stalker. Never went near this fragrance again ! This said, I love to eat " melons salads" in summer !

Maeva

Is it really a melon accord, or just a calone overkill? I don’t particularly notice melon in this fragrance, but I do get some fresh, juicy ripeness, maybe reminiscent of fruit trees after many hours of rain, or rather a moist green garden, as the name implies. In fact on first impression UJALM struck me as a “mellow green” fragrance, being green and ripe at the same time. But this mellow greenness, or acidulated crispness, is definitely mixed with a very powerful ozonic accord.

UJALM is quite spicy and soapy too, and a marine scent but also a floral one, redolent of dewy kahili ginger blossoms from India. I like many of Jean Claude Ellena’s creations because they serve as local guides to the scents of (for me, a humble European who didn’t travel much) unknown far-off countries, especially those that form what we call “the Orient”. This is noticeable in his choice of notes in some masterpieces like Déclaration, Voyage, Poivre Samarkande, Osmanthe Yunnan, etc., compositions that remind you that the world of perfume doesn’t necessarily have to be as Paris-centric as it used to be some decades ago. I love his frequent use of cardamom, coriander, vetiver, tea, etc., and also his occasional use of rare exotic ingredients, like for example the massoia tree in Hermessence Santal Massoia, the bulrush in Un Jardin sur le Nil, and the kahili ginger in UJALM.

This perfume is perfect for the holidays, not only because it belongs to the summery fresh/uplifting category, but especially if you are going on trips to Eastern countries (I hope I’m not overusing stereotypes here). That said, I also find it a perfect holiday frag because it’s soothing, ideal to purify our souls after our winter struggles, our own particular “moussons”. It makes you travel to Asia, to a lush garden still dewy after the monsoon, though finally subdued, sun-warmed and fragrant with the spicy, intoxicating scent of kahili flowers. It’s like an Indian Eden in a way. If paradise was in India, couldn’t this be how it would smell like?

birdy

thank you Alexandar.drag. i don't know what is exactly cardamone!!!!!! yes. yet,i'm in morocco and we use lot of spices for cooking!!!

birdy

like freshly cut grass with a hint of sweet, don't know what is sweet in it?

UPDATE

I finally caved in and got myself this one and I don't regret it at all! However, it has somehow morphed into something that offers more than just the ginger-dry notes I remembered from the last time I tried it. If the previous impression I got was more like a very short story, the new impression feels more like a long travel journal.

On my skin, it starts off warm and gingery as before, but instead of offering a dry and spicy drydown, Un Jardin Après La Mousson now offers dewy, greener notes. Think of garden after rain: moist, cool, somewhat tainted with that distinct after-rain smell but refreshing all the same. After a while, I could detect melon (or cucumber?) notes frequently mentioned by others. The middle notes are spicy but mixed with the melony notes, they offer a very pleasant and grounded olfactory journey.

The drydown remains green and moist with sweet undertones but thankfully Après La Mousson never turns cloying even in hot weather. From top to bottom, the fresh garden-after-rain scent is never overwhelming and instead it stays fresh all the way: this may be due to the softness of Après La Mousson as I found that compared to its sisters, this cool spicy falls on the softer scale. Sillage is acceptable--if you want to increase sillage try spraying it near/on your hair--and longevity isn't too shabby either. I went to town on this and sprayed it liberally (about ten sprays around the neck and on hair) and I found that the gentle dewy-ginger smell radiates within arm's length.

Overall, Après La Mousson has really grown on me and within the first few days of making it my vanity staple I've received some compliments about how refreshing and wonderful it smells. Granted, it's not a head-turning type of scent but that's how Après La Mousson works: it's shy, earthy and gentle. It's not flashy. It's not gorgeous, even. It's beautiful, and very breathtaking in the most austere ways possible. It's not for everyone, but to know it is to love it.

New rating: 9.5/10

--

Like its sisters, Un Jardin Après la Mousson is eclectic and intriguing. All perfumes in the Un Jardin series are excellent, but Sur Le Nil and Sur Le Toit are so similar they could be twins, and Un Jardin en Méditerranée has a very strong personality that must be handled with care. This one, however, is the mellower sister of Méditerranée.

Its opening is like a loud but harmonious orchestra: bright, though not too bold, and exquisitely balanced. It's like love at first sight. Après la Mousson dries down into something dry, though, and quickly loses its sillage. I can definitely smell ginger all the way, and the spices are more pronounced as it dries--the sweeter notes fading away as quickly as a short summer rain.

Overall, I adore this and I wish I had bought this instead of Méditerranée. Un Jardin en Méditerranée has too much sass for me, whilst this one is more agreeable and delicate. If you love spices, you'll love this. I always associate spicy scents with fall or winter because the ones I like tend to smell heavy and rich (think Opium/Mitsouko), so finding one that works in spring/summer is like excavating a rare gem.

I like Hermes scents except Apres la Mousson. On my skin I feel melon and melon and melon:( After 1 hour more green and grassy, but not too pleasant. Too light and weak, lasts 2-3 hours, skin scent, quotes the springtime, it's not bad but nothing great

Lana148

Light, sweet, spicy, green, aquatic. Spicy cucumber? Yes, sweet cucumber mixed with a pinch of ginger, cardamom, coriander, pepper. The smell is different. I recommend trying it before buying.

I just recently acquired samples of the Jardin line, and I have to say, I am very impressed. These four fragrances really show me the mastery of Ellena's creations. This fragrance is extremely well blended, so well blended that I am having difficulty picking out even a single note. To me, this smells beautifully of ripe cantaloupe, someting my family and I always enjoy in the summer months. I WILL be purchasing a full bottle of this, and I can really see this being worn throughout the year. Thanks for reading!

I own sur le nil. Last week or so I visited hermes and smelled this. Smelled so strong and so yucky and gross!!!! I couldn't believe hermes has this scent. Oh well, I dislike all hermes perfumes except Un Jardin seriess so far. I love sur le nil.

Interestingly I stumbled upon an hermes boutique today and gave this another shot. Voila~ this smelled so fresh and marine! Had some woodiness and spiciness(are those even words? sorry English is not my first language) I disliked un jardin mediterrenee initially but these two fragrances somehow smelled great today. Received the paper wrapped in plastic bag so I could smell middle and base note.

Top note of fresh water fades away quite soon, leaving spicy and woodiness, but still somewhat fresh. I may buy this

fragaholic79

The first thing that comes to mind at the mention of Kerala India, is coconuts. When I read that Mousson was inspired by Kerala, I was definitely anticipating a coconut scent. But I'm glad Ellena thought otherwise and concentrated on the second most thing Kerala is famous for i.e. spices.
Apres ala mousson is inspired by the scent of rich vegetation and aromatic soil, wet and fragrant after the heavy monsoon rains.
It's a very unconventional scent. Spicy, woody yet watery and fresh. The cardamom note blooms the strongest on my skin in the opening. It then mellows down to a translucent spicy, citrusy, woody fresh scent which is a signature of all the fragrances in the Jardin series.  The fresh ginger is zesty and very refreshing and stops the fragrance from being too rich and spicy. The image that comes to mind is of sitting in a verandah in the middle of a lush spice plantation in Kerala, enjoying the heavy monsoon. The rain is heavy, yet still, without the distraction of thunder.
Amidst the spices mentioned in the notes, Ellena’s minimalistic style makes it delicate, refreshing and a pleasure to wear on a hot humid summers day. An odd yet intriguing fragrance.

Cassiano

It was the last fragrance released for the Un Jardin line, which was established to represent a kind of travel journal of the trips to the most amazing and bucolic gardens according to Jean-Claude Ellena’s point of view, who is a renowned perfumer of the House.

Released in 2008, "A Garden After the Monsoon" is a trip through Kerala, which is one of the States of India, bathed by the Arabian Sea and which stands out for having the highest rate of economic development across the country. The place lives with 120 to 140 rainy days per year, due to the heavy rains of the summer monsoon.

Monsoon is the term given to the seasonal winds that are associated with the alternation between periods of drought and rain, very common in this part of the coast of India. After the monsoon, is when it occurs in many places, the renewal period when animals return hunting, plants will bear fruit, flowers blossom, lakes and rivers are full, etc.

For those who think of the famous smell of wet earth after the rain, the disappointment is huge. Here, the attempt was to capture the scents of ponds, wet plants, flowering, and rebirth. It contains notes of cardamom, ginger, coriander, ginger flower, pepper, and vetiver accord. But some people claim that there are notes of melon or watermelon. And it has a rationale.
Once applied, the output is floral and fruity, with something that really brings the nuances of melon. It’s slightly sweetened, too. Then, the fragrance stays moist-looking, as if it were a field of bamboo drying in the sun, with a soft and spicy pepper. The fruity aspect begins to be more restrained, but there is a floral nuance, thanks to ginger flower, said to be quite fragrant, similar to Jasmim in a few moments. After a long time, at the end of the evolution, I can feel the cardamom, drier.

As well as in other fragrances of the line, the projection is not strong, but the durability. It is, without doubt, one of the best of the line, along with Un Jardin En Méditerranée.

From now on, watching those documentaries about the Asian tigers in their natural and wild habitat is replaced by a new scent in my mind.

Me encantó el review de Edox! Hace tiempo que los jardines de Hermes me enamoraron. Cualquiera de ellos son frescos alegres super naturales. Una vez le recomende Este a una amiga que no para de agradecerme. dice que es mágico.
Loved Edox review. I'm in love with Jardins collection, any of them. They are fresh happy super natural. I recommended this one to a friend, she is always acknowledging for it. She says it s a magic scent.

Edox

ScarlettX

This perfume is green and close to nature, like other perfumes in that line.
I can smell herbs, pepper and ginger in it. The spiciness is a bit sharp in it, so I must say that this one I like, but other perfumes from that line I adore.
Nice scent for spring or summer.

Scentmad

When I first sprayed this I thought "nope, nope, NO!" far too salty and far too aqua for my taste - I particularly detest aqueous notes in perfume. However 30 minutes later and I get a smoky rubber bitterness - which, I grant you, is not exactly what a woman wants on her - having said that, I kind of like it. It's rather nice and I know it must have something compelling in it as I keep sniffing my wrist. I would say it has a celery salt note too and something that indicates hawthorn. A very chilly perfume indeed. The notes are a little contradictory and I think it’s something I would have to wear a few times to really get to know it a little better. I am pleased with my purchase though and it’s nothing like I expected. I still prefer sur le nil by some margin, but I think that’s more to do with my skin than the actual perfumes judging by the reviews. Worth a try, would recommend a decant before buying a full (100ml) bottle.

Teresa1019

my mom said I smell like soap.. i feel clean after spraying it!

Teresa1019

i love it ! the non alcohol version is like body milk!
it smells like a trip all condensed in a bottle..
this could bring wonderful memory !

This fragrance hit me like heavenly rain. To me this is an aquatic scent which makes it very easy for me to love it. It's sooo fresh, pure, clean - I think of fresh water with flowers floating in it, and a bit of spices (but the spices are so well blended in that they are only lingering in the background). I was surprised to see ginger-root in here as well as the other spices, as I could not tell from smelling the fragrance alone. Very well done in my opinion. This has to be mine before Summer. Love at first sniff.

happyscent

Un Jardin Sur Le Toit – the sweetest of the bunch; initial sprays smells like over-ripe apples, lychee/longan to my nose mix with green scents; I don’t know but victoria secret also has this scent

happyscent

Un Jardin Après La Mousson – I like this the best; it is rather unique with an aquatic feel (not the cool water type), it has a melon smell hinted by spices; I can't explain it its a delicate scent but really every note is suspended on top of each other this is something I would recommend from the jardin series

minus365

I am a man and need to say, this fragrance is very unique. It doesn't suit everyone on the first try. I smelled it in the shop and thought it is awful. Didn't like it at all. Then I somehow gave it second and third try and start loving it.

It has pretty poor longevity and moderate sillage, but it's all about moment of now and wildness and mystery that is in it. I can't remind any other fragrance that would come close to this.

It's pepper, water melon/citrus with touch of exotic spice. not too agressive or warm, actually it's pretty cold, clean and fresh, very much like a clean air after the monsun rain somewhere deep in the jungle. The name speaks for itself.

I think it's more for man than woman and it's a deffinitely stand out fragrance in my book. If you already test it and don't like, just give it another try. You may change your opinion same as I did.

If you want to have something unique in your frag arsenal, I strongly suggest to get one.

Such a mouth-watering smell!! I would have never guessed this is a woody-spicy scent....

To me it smells - like so many reviewers have already stated - a lot like melon and watermelon! The ginger is also up front, but the rest to me is very subtle... However, it is rather weak in terms of projection, so i suppose abundant, repeated use is necessary!

Apart from these technicalities, really, this perfume is up-lifting, cheerful, summery amidst the rainy, wet and cold winter... sooooooo nice!!

miss mills

I LOVE this one! I smell dill and watermelon mixed with grass and vetiver - coriander, yes, that, too! Herbaceous, green, sea salt spray oceanic...The spice comes in the dry down. I want a FB right now please, universe!!!

migueldematos

I can smell watermelon!!!

Michael1962

I'm not really a fan of Hermes but this is the exception to the rule.As noted by most reviewers I pick up the melon, more like honeydew melon, smell right off the bat. Also although not noted I get a slight tomato leaf vibe a la Lacoste Essential and the ginger is noticable although not quite in a Dior Homme sport way.The pepper is well blended in this one and complements the other notes perfectly

Perfect for spring and summer and one of the reasons I bought it as I needed more fresher scents to balance out my collection without the citrus overload.More green, calming and mellow and it does smell like the air just after a heavy downpour.

Highly recommended as a smart and different casual spring/summer scent.I love the simple blue hued bottle too

meugie

All I feel in this perfume is synthetic melon.
After 15 minutes appears a taste of pepper. Melon still here.
Average duration and moderate sillage.
I like it, but never will be among the Favorites.
Love the name. Very suggestive.

Houdini4

Couldn't wait to try this collection and this one was very nice, sweet spicy and thoroughly likable but nothing that special.

Bazique

I have all the fragrances from the un jardin collection and I have to say this is the one I love the most!

It is very a very unique spicy sweet scent. At first I felt it was a little too dry, but I love it more and more each time I wear it.

I'm normally a floral fan (my fav are Cartier's Baiser Vole and Jo Malone's Wild Bluebell), but this one really impresses me with its spice. IMO Le toit is a bit too girly so this one is just perfect.

courant

Leaving shortly to have dinner in a Thai restaurant. They make their stir fries with palm sugar, lime juice, nam-pla, chili and spices. I can't imagine walking in wearing Chanel No 19 or even Kelly Caleche from JCE. Here's where Apres la Mousson slots in. Equally I could imagine wearing this in Rarotonga, Fiji or Tahiti; places that carry a vegetal huff in the air. It's not an everyday fragrance but it seems to me that if you are about to glow (horses sweat, men perspire and ladies..glow) then your chemistry should be in sync. Enjoyable for its uniqueness.

Pinja

Airy, spicy, woody and completely dry.

A scent that seems to have top and middle notes only, without all the often heavier basenotes.

I perceive melon as something moist and there is nothing moist here, no aquatic notes (because calone is not aquatic to me, it's airy), no green notes, no fruits or flowers that could all provide a wet accord.
So I do not detect melon, only something airy and dry.
Like spices thrown in the air long after the supposed monsoon rain is gone.

This is wonderful. It seems to have a lot of Eau des Merveilles as a "base," like quite a few other Ellena perfumes. This is not by any means a negative thing.

Add vanilla to Eau des Merveilles and you have Eau Claire Des Merveilles.
Add musk to Eau des Merveilles and you have Voyage.
Add spices to Eau des Merveilles and you have Un Jardin Après La Mousson.

Deefit

The ginger and pepper really pop out to my nose, at least during the first 30 minutes. I also get the moist, wet, rainy vibe. This scent really gives me a great visual image of what Ellena had in mind when creating this. I've had the same experience with Un Jardin Sur Le Toit, Ellena is a wonderful man!

It's very spicy but in a fresh way, though I don't find this an everyday scent at all. I'm still not sure whether I like this one or not. I find it to be quite sharp.

Kiera79

Wow, this really is unlike anything I've tried before. I get a lot of watery melon with hints of cardamom and ginger in the background. This would be a wonderful spring/summer scent..... but unfortunately I can't shake the association with melon flavored jelly beans....

Marciu

This is actually my favourite one from the Jardin series. But I use it during spring only.

It's very spicy on my skin. I really feel ginger, cardamom, pepper and corriander mixed all together. Longevity that I get with it is good - about 8 hours and sillage is moderate, but that's a good thing.

I prefer using it in march and April, because when it's really warm or even hot, this scent is dusty for me. It's getting heavy and cloying.

But I like it and it'll be a staple in my collection.

StellaDiverFlynn

I don't know why but I had a misconception that the whole Jardin series must all be soft scents. So I gave myself several good spritzes and oh my! How spicy!

Ginger and Cardamom are the most prominent to my nose. It's a juicy ginger smell and it gives a cold and wet feeling, which goes well with 'Après la Mousson'. Though I've never been to India, I would imagine Kenzo Jungle l'Elephant is India under the sun, while Après la Mousson is India after the rain. I'd love to wear it in summer for its cold and wet attitude, and in winter for its spiciness. A fragrance with edges but versatile as well.

Noemi1991

It's a fresh spicy perfume. It's not a really usual fragrance. It's not what a mean for a fashion perfume. On my skin it's quite strong. I can smell that melon-y taste at the beginning. But as the time goes by, it dries down and i can notice all the spices. I personally really like this fragrance. It reminds tropical and hot places. I think it's a perfect perfume for summer days, even if it's really versatile.

greenspear

I live in a tropical country for most of my life. This perfume smells exactly like home. I can imagine the smell of rain pouring down in a dense rainforest. Very nostalgic and comforting. Fresh, spicy, and I love the smell of melon! I just wish that, for the price, it has better staying power.

fragaholic79

An odd yet intriguing fragrance.

cumulnimbus

I enjoy the watery-spicy-woody surprising effect of Un jardin après la Mousson. I've used it during the late spring or summer for several years now and I'm confortable in it. I love the ginger blossom note, such a beautiful and strange flower in reality. The fragrance doesn't develop much staying quite the same after the first few minutes but lasts long for an edt.

My choice for summer out of Ellena's jardins collection for the moment and one of the few aquatic scents I really admire.

nerskine

Summer after it rains. Sultry.

WhiteCity

melon and cardamon drifted away by a warm breeze....

kolympiadis

Being a fan of unisex fragrances I decided to give Hermes' Un Jardin line a try. Of the four, I think this is the most versatile. The individual spicy notes of ginger, cardamom, pepper and coriander are all noticeable, but not in the traditional "dry spice rack" sense. This scent is very FRESH, but warm at the same time - an unusual combination! I think the melon-y note that some detect is actually a combination of the watery note and fresh ginger. Unlike dried ginger, fresh ginger has a very wet, tangy and sweet, almost fruity scent. I can see how it could be interpreted as melon.
I really think this is an all season perfume. I haven't had it long enough to try in winter, but the spices are definitely warm and rich. The rainy, humid, fresh side of the scent is apparent now, as spring develops, but the spicy warmth could easily take center stage in colder weather and be very appropriate.
Like all of the Jardin series, this is an unusual, seemingly complex but deceptively familiar, intriguing scent. It is highly enjoyable to wear!

patxaran

Just received the brume parfumee (alcohol free body mist) and gave it a go. First impression on this cold winter day is that it definitely brings back memories of travelling in South India. Spice farms in the backwaters and humid heat. I can see what other reviewers mean by the melon note however I cannot exactly say if it is melon, cucumber or just a general mix of vegetables. Maybe it will occur to me later what it reminds me of. So far, so good. Really need to test this when the weather is warmer!

jBoozy711

i will tell it straight like this

I AM AFRAID OF SMELLING THIS FRAGRANCE AGAIN IN MY LIFE

i tried it once, hated it, ruBBed it off
2nd time i literally threw up

i see a lot of reviews talking aBout how natural, juicy and green its
that makes me want to try it again

BUT I DONT REALLY DARE TO DO IT

melon note its so putrid and offensive
that makes me sad to even rememBer when i smelled that

pbluberry

The notes and the smell doesn't add up to me. I like it but I'm puzzled. I smell the pepper and ginger but also something fresh in the mix of things. Sometimes when a scent gets too overwhelming for me I spritz a little water on it and it freshens it right up. I get the Melon thing people are talking about in the end. Odd but in a good way.

cezarmac

Do you like summertime?Do you like smell good but not "good" as everybody? When are you walking on street on temperature up to 80+ do you get bored about that "Aqua,silver,sport..." smell?
Me too and me too and me too.
I used to wear this excelent alternative for a long years and i can't get enough.
Everybody knows that better fragrances are winter weather made to and honestly i know exactly what i'm talking about because i live in Brazil so wrong perfume plus wrong weather is poisonous.
Here is a great perfume of course this is not a masterpiece not even a lovely one although smell very good, big longevity and better than that versatily is amazing.Anyway we've got some "aqua" on it but not like a lake, river or sea it is just like a rain falling down on a rich spicy/aromatic soil in a tropical weather country for sure India because the aromatic cardamon smell along spicies such ginger roots and flowers i mean ginger roots smelling same as vetiver is typical from that region. Not listed on notes but present a summer proper smell comes out from watermelon while coriander and pepper make duo harmonious as Batman & Robin, coriander is like a grand finale for a freshness summer salad.
In the end you know what?it is so natural and comfortable that hot weather is just one thing else.

Juma

I like a smell of softener and I like a smell of ginger in BVL Notte pour femme- but not the mixture of these two smells in UJA Mousson.
I don't like it from the first spray to the last whifs.

isenseincense

I bought this last summer to cool me down on hot days. However it rained ALL summer in the UK and the last thing I wanted was a perfume that smelled of rainy days and thats what this is. Last summer it saddened me and I was ready to sell it on ebay. Now I will keep it till the summer in the confident expectation of heat and sun.

However Jardin Med will be on standby as that cheers and refreshes like nothing else.

ladynaqua

I love the smell, clean , fresh , crisp and green yet the sillage is very poor ..

freedre93

I did full of expectations above this fragrance, mainly for the fact to describe how Ellena did this notes become an idea of a rain. And so..I tried, and it doesn't fits me, why?
Well..what I only remember until now is the tea's smelling..and yes, it's spicy, and a bity strange..and I would say that a litle bit old! :/
but each opinion is a opinion..and I have to say that the quality of the perfume is really nice..maybe if Elena had thought the rain for some tropical place..it would seems more as a rain!

leomat2008

I love this one but it´s a little too sweet I wanted it to be. The note I love is the melon. Melon is very noticeable in the beggining of the bottle or in the beggining of the sprayed, but then the smell becames sweet and sweet.

silverbutterfly

I tried this perfume today, to me is too "cucumbery"and nothing like my imagination of "After rain" thing. It doesn't smell agressive, but on the other hand-nothing special for this price.

Adiro

This is a gorgeous spicy fresh mix, and I had the great opportunity of trying it thanks to a lovely memeber here, Greenfaerie38. I was reluctant to try it for so long, simply because I am not a fan of pepper, but here it is subtle enough. Actually the fragrance feels "cold" to me, in spite of all these spices.
The strength and sillage are very good, and among the Jardin series I would rank it second to Sur Le Toit only, in terms of lasting strenth and sillage. Very Good, a 9/10 in my book, and wishlist material for sure! I would love a FULL bottle of this, would be ready to swap a lot for this one! Highly reccomended!

ejade

Wow.. so many interesting and widely variable reviews. Being a huge fan of this juice, I can relate to probably 90% of these interpretations. Obviously, the frag will smell differently on each of us based on our own chemistry. I'm a dude... don't really sweat much, indoors most of the time and have fairly dry skin... accentuated by the arid desert where i live. Apres la Mousson, on my skin, renders the notions of over-rippened melons and mushy, drippy cucumbers... sorta rancid-sweet in its overtones all the while masking the idea of rotting vegetation. This aroma is wafted across a briny, still lake yielding a salty, over-flowing watery cleansing effort to what otherwise might have been unpleasant. These then get gently wafted along on a clean linen breeze to tidy everything up in a gorgeous bouquet of warm and comforting greenness... Strangely inviting and unusual... so beautiful and unforgetable... intensely seductive and sensual. Great for quiet and soft summer and fall mornings. Avoid the intense heat. Break it out on those cold, gloomy winter mornings when you could use a "pick-me-up". Don't use this everyday... it's too indulgent. Reserve it for those occasions when you need special attention or something a little selfish and self-centered... or share it on an intimate occasion... it's a great "combat scent" when you and your special someone need a "get some in the garden" atmosphere... most of all be open-minded enough to let it take you where it will..... ENJOY!!! This is SEXY STUFF!!!

Wilka

It took my attention some two months ago. I doubted whether to buy it or not, as when I saw this page here, I realized that they compare it with Bulgari Black - an also unisex fragrance I couldn’t get used to and gave to my husband after buying it, long ago now - . It's rather difficult to me to resist suggestions alluding to India or Arab charms so, in mid-uruguayan Spring, I finally bought "Un Jardin après la Mousson" today. I'm glad but I'll be careful not to wear it when it's too hot and, contrary to "Un Jardin sur le Toit", when I'm engaged in "hard urban action". It'll be wonderful for calm, cool or warm evenings in the open air. Yet, I must confess I fear its unisex side, in a way. Will my husband end up by wearing it, instead of me?

Valeriarguello

Its definitely my favourite out of all the Un Jardin collection. It really is in synch with my personality, not to overwhelming, simple, classic, independent, and exotic at the same time. The scent picks you up from a beginning towards a slow, warm descend.
The bottle itself is beautifully made, very simple and such lovely colours.
Reminds me of a tropical destination, surrounded by large tropical trees, sun shinning through the green leaves, hot and humid, somewhere in Asia.
Bought the 50ml one and instantly fell in love with it, so next perfume I buy will be the 100ml version. Absolutely love it!

jadejoann4

This is a fantastic, exotic scent that resembles no other. It is like you are being drenched in the hills of Chakrashila will cleansing yourself with insence and citrus. One of my absolute favorites. I can see a man wearing this. SO, that being said, I only wear it when I am dressed feminine and pretty.

malwiniusia

It is very diffiucult to describe this scent, as it changes its fragrance everytime i put it on. Personally, i realized that the perfume smells different at every weather change. When it is sunny it smells, as often described like watermelons and cucumber with a rather woody and earthy apres-smell. On rainy days the odour hugs you like a bubble and you feel like at a spice market, with lots of sweetness and balmy flavours. On cold days it is the only warm source that makes you remember of summer or a rainy jungle.
It is a good composition and everyone can sense something diverse in this great perfume. I recommend this to very wild women who seek for adventures but still hide some mystery behind their facade.
I do not own it yet, but i still have to find it more appealing to me than it already is.

GoodVibrations

Is it an exotic journey of south Asian spices, or is it watermelon Bubbilicious? Good either way.

kkk

I bought it to myself(I'm a woman) last year, I found it seductive, I just wanted to smell it and smell it... so different, so unique. But unfortunately I can't stand it on myself, it is too heavy for my nose, just too much. So I gave it to my husband who likes it very much too. On his skin it smells different, warmer and less harsh.
Pretty good longevity and nice bottle too.

PricklyAndHot

I would say that on me the most noticeable note of this fragrance is the ginger blossom note. The sillage of it is really quite charming. It really attracts my attention periodically. Despite this fragrance opens on me nearly like a green watermelon peel inside (I guess it's a mix of the ginger blossom and melon notes.), it really smells good:)

It doesn't smell on me spicy, only a little bit. And not too aquatic, but its watery enough.

I'm not a fan of watermelon and melon fragrances, but I like this fragrance! It's unusual enough. Only I'm afraid to get tired of the melon note.

evanthie

the best thing I've ever tried in my life! I'm in love with this :)Seeing as it's unisex I'd fall in love with any man wearing it. Simply the sexiest.

bloosunshine

The spice and cool wetness is a really unusual combination.I really feel the humid air, the wafts
of green freshness,perhaps a hint of cucumber,ginger
lingers beneath, while the pepper, and hints of mustard
seed add a brash spicy aura.Strangely enough they do
not compete. The cool wetness is never overpowered by
the spice, which by itself may be a little too tranquil
and mundane.A conceptual scent that must be smelled to
truly appreciate!P.S., the ombre bottle,and it`s oceanic
hues are truly beautiful!

Mnemsys

Defenitely a try before you buy fragrance. I love it. It's an unusual fresh scent. To me, it's not spicy, but more like green herbs, like parsley. The name is very appropriate, I think. The same vibe as after a heavy shower, when the air seems to be full of life; it smells natural and rainy. The downside to me is the longevity, which is really poor on me.

patrick-fragrancelover

I love the Hermès Un Jardin line and I was really excited to smell this fragrance. It smells like perfection in the bottle, but unfortunately smells awful on my skin. Truly it really doesn't smell like anything on my skin. I can't pin-point a certain smell but a poorly blended wood/bitter greens scent. But it really smells fresh and woody while smelling on a card or from the bottle, and really quite beautiful. I'm disappointed in this, but I'm sure that it sets well on other people's skin.. at least I hope so, because this fragrance really does smell amazing otherwise. Unfortunately, I think this is the low point for Un Jardin. However, I do encourage people to go and try it on their own skin, because my first impressions (on a card and in the bottle) were magical.
