At my nose it smells like Eau de Orange Vert with Pasha Noir Absolu... a very well-done cologne, high quality for being a cologne. The citrus of Orange Vert with the rouge ingredients of Pasha Noir Absolu: spum sugar, caramel, smoke, and tabac.

Adrian Papaki

I like citrus frags. But this is just straight up citrus with some funky smoky under tone, expected much more from this, thank god I didn't blindbuy

qoepi

whoever said this doesn't last is lying i got 6 hours out of it and it became a skin scent at 2 hours

Gabrooch

Mr. Citrus Tea should have been waiting for me based on the pyramid, but something didn't work out. It actually smells like a sweetened lemon, that one we mix with sugar or honey when catching a cold.

I do have nothing against such a combination, but I expected a smokier and deeper citrusy performance (the smoke is not noticeable on my skin at all).
In general, I can only recommend Citron Noir to people who do not like to feel fragrance around them/prefer it sounds translucently.

If you're looking for something along these lines, consider Hermes Voyage (EDP and EDT both good - for me it's a question of endurance and volume -> EDP is my choice): it conveys a similar sweetly-sour story, but with more playful spices.

Tincel

Has ambroxan and those masculine aromachemicals present in many fresh pseudo-sophisticated scents in the past few years. Makes it smell cheap, underwhelming, and unlike Hermès. Sniffed it once and said booooooh

Dorm_leveller

First and foremost, this is clearly an eau de cologne and as such anyone expecting it to last longer than an hour should just steer clear of this section of the hermes section. And open a book or two. Dilutions are ok but only in moderation or taste - not in fundamentals.

Second, it actually last quite long for an eau de cologne but it is also a clear reference in the genre.

I love its absolutely bitter smell - something that is not easy to do in perfumery - but here it is done masterfully. And from the GC analyses I’ve seen, it has surprisingly small amount of woody ambers for the effect they create - but then again, that’s the beauty of perfumery - sometimes the smallest amount makes the biggest difference.

heymit

Quite underwhelming, having read the reviews. I expected a bit more niche quality but it smells very generic. Outspoken fresh high pitch citric in the opening and the drydown is your typical middle of the road drugstore imitation of Chanel Bleu type base. It doesn’t smell ‘Hermes’ to me. Apologies for the negative review, but can’t make more of it. If you love popular bleu type fragrances, this might be for you though.

barbas

Some people are just mean. If you can't review a perfume with decency, just don't do it. They are used with niche and all kinds of expensive cr..p. Many people who enter here wants to read an honest opinion and not all can afford expensive water with smell.

Chyber 99

This is for “intimate moments” only, that’s way the performance here is delicate

This is not for offices or social events, there is a lot of perfumes with strong performance made for other purposes, but not this perfume.

The master perfumer of Citron noir by Hermes not ignorant that people.

It is romantic masterpiece, for romantic moments, hugs, and kisses, gives you a charming scent as if you are not wearing perfume.

This is your body soul scent during intimate moments, without disturbing the other party by tacky clear strong chemical perfume.

Tripokaridos

That's what I like in Hermes they make perfumes that are unique and realistic.
This is a Summer day or night out perfume with Bright citrus that is balanced by a dark smokey tea... Amazing Elegant Masculine perfumery.
Its for those that have a lot of perfumes and use different one for different time of day and this lasts 3-4 hours just enough so u can wear something else . Projection also is for people that don't demand attention, they just sit down drinking coffe and only the close people to them can smell it.

This stuff is fantastic! Ironically, I first heard of Eau de Citron Noir from a negative review. It piqued my interest so I looked up the note breakdown and thought it sounded like something that I would enjoy. I blind bought it and I couldn't be happier. It starts with a realistic zesty citrus smell. Kind of reminds me of Eau Sauvage but much more modern. Underlying the citrus is a herbaceous smokey accord which carries it though to the end. It isn't extremely powerful in terms of sillage which I find to be a good thing for a citrus scent. The biggest downside to it is the longevity. It’s doesn’t last more than a few hours—it is an eau de cologne after all. This has a masculine smell to it even though it is advertised as being a unisex fragrance. Im glad that it's finally starting to warm up so I can start putting this to use!

WildCalifornia

I love citrus scents and what I really like about this one is that it keeps its strong citrus notes while being very good for the evening . The smoke ,black tea and dry black lime notes make it very evening friendly.
At first it's super zesty but not sweet. What would be sweet is replaced by this dark dry lime green smoke with orange and citron peel. After about 20 minutes it settles into the black tea, noir, green smoke scent and the early sharpness almost goes away . About another 20 to 30 minutes later it fades a bit and keeps that dark lime zest but settles more into the wood note. It's not an overly complicated fragrance but it smells great in my opinion.I can totally see how many won't like the initial notes because it almost smells like a bowl or different citrus peels . Definitely an evening fragrance that can be worn during the day. Summer and spring scent for sure. My biggest issue with this is the longevity. It settles in nicely after about an hour. Then an hour after that it fades . Then you can only really smell it when you get your nose right onto it. For a $150 cologne I expect it to last much longer than that . Which is why i waited until I found it cheaper. Right now the 3.3oz is like $60 on joma . So it's a bit better

I really love the woody citrusy opening, in the middle you start to get smoke. I think it’s longevity is nice, I’ve put it on six hours ago and I can still smell it on my skin

bailão

Eau de Citron Noir is an incredibly fresh, smoky, woody, citrus/lemony fragrance that, at least on my skin and under the weather conditions I live, performs pretty well for an Eau de Cologne, better than almost every other citrusy fragrance I own or used to have. It gives you that fresh out-of-the-shower vibe, and as the fragrance unfolds, I also feel a cedar note that is not listed. Amazing fresh, aromatic citrusy fragrance with an incredible performance. A safe and elegant choice for the office environment. Kudos to Ms. Nagel!

I don`t get why people complain about longevity on this one. People are using it the wrong way (winter and cold weather), and if so, no citrusy cologne in the universe will perform. Again, as I already mentioned in a previous review, people need to educate themselves relating to where, how, and when to use their fragrances.

Olives4life

Considering the price, there is no reason to buy this fragrance. This is one of the most lovely smelling and realistic citrus scents out there but unfortunately the performance is just really not that great.

JJ2137

Great scent, sour and refreshing lemon-lime. Giving longevity a 'moderate' rating is generous, because it is closer to 'weak 1h-2h' than 'moderate 3h-6h'. After 30 minutes it's a skin scent that lasts 3 hours tops. Same for sillage, it hardly projects. BUT this is eau de cologne, it supposed to be just a refreshment. Only top notes are present, not much of base notes here. The price should be lower though, taking all these factors into account.

Edit: If you want longer lasting fragrance of very similar scent profile check Roja Burlington 1819. The price is very hefty, but the resemblance, at least in the drydown, is there.

Perfumeissex

First impressions:
Interesting. This perfume should be rated above 4.00.

I have skipped this perfume as it is rated below 4.20 which is the rating I use for blind buying and I heard that this line of perfumes lacks longevity. I came across this dark bottle of Hermes perfume in a perfume store next to Terre D'Hermes Eau de Givree. I gave it a whiff to see how horrible it was, but to my surprise, the top notes were complex and beautiful. It was not any average citrus scent, but more of beautifully crafted, unique, elegant citrus notes that exude confidence, luxury, and refinement. It was far from boring, and from my experience coming across a not boring citrus perfume can be quite challenging.

I am a fan of the Hermes Terre D'Hermes and the Lalique Encre Noir series, and Eau de Citron Noir is up to my alley. Unisex, mysterious, thought-provoking, uncommon, and elegant would be some adjectives I would use to describe the fragrance. Lessons learned not to judge a fragrance by its rating on Fragrantica. This perfume no way deserves 3.90. Give it a try if you like interesting citrus scents.

aliyegore

A very elegant and sophisticated scent, with citrus notes well balanced. Unlike many similar ones on the market, I think you feel the touch of Hermès in this perfume with its slightly dark structure. I can say that it is very satisfactory in terms of performance.

aks1

Hard af palo santo and citrus. Lasts really long on clothes i never wear it on skin

DJ Alkmaar

It's gorgeous but you've kucky to get an hour out of it.

shokravee

god kill me, why does this smell like savauge + aventus? am i tripping? potentially. but there's this syntheticness or something in the background that bugs the crap out of my nose.

OAKESKINEN

I really like this one. It's a lovely fresh, lime, citrus and smoky wood fragrance. I honestly think this can be worn in every situation. I get about 8 hours on clothes with a moderate projection. Definitely gonna buy a bigger bottle.

OwlFactory

Quite possibly my biggest waste of money on a scent ever.

Lemon pledge in a glass bottle with a cheap cap.

Doesn't last long, which is a good thing, because it's very unbecoming. I suspect you could use this in layering another fragrance, but as a stand alone scent, I find it repulsive.

Juulb2275

I absolutely love this scent. I've been looking for a long time for a pleasant, sensual male perfume, and this one does it for me. It opens with a light, fresh citrus smell and later evolves to a woody, warm scent. I can't get enough of it. Doesn't smell overly masculine or synthetic to me. The perfume has a uniqueness to it and i will definitely buy it again. I disagree with the comments that say it fades fast, for me it has a good longevity. I smell it even after a long day of work.
Would definitely recommend!

Eau de Citron Noir by Hermès: A Radiant Ode to Citrus Elegance

Eau de Citron Noir by Hermès is a true masterpiece that effortlessly captures the essence of citrus sophistication. From the moment this fragrance graces your skin, it embarks on a journey that is both refreshing and remarkably refined.

The opening notes burst forth with the vibrant energy of citron, offering a zesty and invigorating introduction. The clever inclusion of black lime adds a unique twist, providing a depth that goes beyond the typical citrus fragrances. The result is a harmonious blend that balances brightness with a subtle, intriguing darkness.

As Eau de Citron Noir evolves, the heart notes of lemon petitgrain contribute a green and aromatic quality, creating a dynamic interplay of accords that is both refreshing and sophisticated. The fragrance gracefully settles into its base notes, where the warmth of spices and woods delicately lingers, adding a layer of complexity that enhances the overall experience.

What sets Eau de Citron Noir apart is its sheer versatility. It seamlessly transitions from casual daytime wear to more formal evening occasions, making it a go-to fragrance for those who appreciate a scent that complements any setting.

The longevity of Eau de Citron Noir is commendable, as is its moderate sillage. It leaves a trail that is both inviting and intriguing without overpowering the senses. The bottle design, true to Hermès' commitment to elegance, is simple yet refined, a visual representation of the fragrance it contains.

In conclusion, Eau de Citron Noir by Hermès is an olfactory celebration of citrus done with unparalleled finesse. It's a fragrance that doesn't just evoke a scent; it conjures an entire atmosphere of sophistication and vitality. For those who seek a fragrance that effortlessly embodies the art of refined simplicity, Eau de Citron Noir is an absolute triumph.

Opening is divine. The lemon does smell a little like cleaning product but it is so wonderfully offset by a very masculine woody/grassy note that smells like patchouli or vetiver that it doesn't really matter. I believe that's the guaiac wood. In any case, the citruses are gone within the first 5 mins.

The citric opening is also deep and slightly dark compared to other citrus-based frags. It's not gothic dark. More like 5 o'clock shadow dark. Shame this is merely an eau de cologne. Like Rhubarbe Ecarlate, Hermès needs to release this as a proper eau de parfum.

An hour in, it's still there but has contracted into a skin scent.

I personally find this superior to the oft touted Concentre D' Orange Verte.

20 mins later, everything has settled to a woody, grassy patchouli scent. It's also mellowed significantly.

2 hrs in and it's still going. It's retracted significantly but it's still easily detectable.

3 hrs in. It's now barely hanging on. At this rate I'd say total longevity is between 3-3.5 hrs which is a phenomenal showing for an Eau de Cologne. That's equivalent longevity to some Eau de Toilettes.

PS. I thought this was going to be done by the 3.5 hr mark but 5 hrs in I can still smell this on my skin - especially if exposed to warm ambient air. Is this really an Eau de Cologne or did Hermès deliberately mislabel the concentration of this?

OTA Mom

Intensely bright citrus, tea, and wood, as promised. The slightly smoky facet of black lemon is evident as the top wears off. Crafted by Nagel, this scent is of course a cut above.

Myrtillajus

Very fresh, juicy, easy to squeeze: a realistic lemon with light smoky touches made even more pleasant by the note of green tea.
A dive into summer carefreeness for me.
Beautiful, not great durability but to be worn with ease during the warmer seasons.
Lemons painted by Helen Flockhart.

yazzakasbah

Other reviewers are stating this contains Ambroxan (which is not listed anywhere).
I think Ambroxan is the ingrediënt in some male perfumes that totally ruins them for me.
To my nose it smells like dirty urinoir. I think it's due to genetics.
Just like fresh coriander leaf tastes exactly like dishwashing soap to me.

Anyway, Eau de citron noir is not an option for me.

arthurbaron

Sophisticated, fresh lemon opening. I could imagine wearing this on some cashmere during winter. Unfortunately it fades quickly into some very generic ambroxan territory that overpower the citrus notes and gets quite dull. Disappointing.

caifan

Eau de Citron Noir by Hermes is a citrus and woody fragrance.

Its opening has some heavenly citrus, really nice, it smells like lime and it seems like lemon too, this phase lasts 10 minutes max, then it turns a little smoky and slightly green. After another half hour the smoky tone disappears and a woody base of patchouli and ambroxan remains, and there are no further changes in its development.

Citron Noir is a fragrance to be used during the day, in the morning, since citrus fruits give an excellent dose of joy and energy (although they don't last long). Being a light fragrance, it is suitable for spring and summer, for daily use, casual outings or office work.

Its duration was good, more than 8 hours, but with a sillage almost near to the skin after 1 hour.

This fragrance is unisex and pleasant, simple, but of good quality, although it falls short in sillage performance. I do not recommend for blind purchase because it is not cheap, but I do encourage you to try it and get your own opinion.

Jernê Knowles

1. Eau de Citron Noir is a very large tea and at a bubbly Citron temperature, for a ritual that involves a lot of incense, fire and smoke! Impressive how this fragrance, while managing to convey a feeling of freshness, also transmits warmth and intensity.

2. Yuzu's tea notes are very lively, as in niche perfumes, and linger even after complete farewell. Simply, the advertisement for this fragrance narrates in a semiotic way its real proposal for its users. Freshness, but pertinently to a warmer, denser and admirable intensity.

3. Its citrus strength denotes fine drinks, served on a very large wooden table, in a wet bar, where citrus fruits are poured into the wood until they are finally gone. It's innovative, unique and makes you want to smell like it for years, addictive as it can be.

4. Hermès always innovates, and even in what may seem 'simple', it brings notoriety with its brand and olfactory identity behind it.

dsgnmind

Picked this up with a travel set of four. I'm drawn to most of Hermes citrus-orange scents. Their fresh and spicy while remaining cool and sophisticated, just which they were a little bit deeper and last longer. With this one I feel it is great for a summer night out and has a hint of romance in it, the citrus goes back and forth between lime and lemon with me, others can't decide. The smoke is not really apparent, it just gives the fresh citrus a hint of depth and moodiness, but remains a largely safe fragrance to wear anywhere, very office friendly (as is the whole line). I'd be curious to see what this would be like kicked up a few notches, still retaining is key characteristics but a little bigger, deeper, and luxury - but possibly that is not the intention. I feel to get a few of these from this line to last more than 6 hours I have to really lay it on, and even then it remains an intimate skin scent, which is fine. I fun, fresh, mature enough fragrance that is a hint moody but easy to wear, a good travel companion, but maybe that's about it.

Granny Autismo

Very underwhelming in comparison to other great works from this brand — such as the ever-so-popular Terre d'Hermès and the underdog Un Jardin Sur Le Nil (both of which are Jean-Claude Ellena frags). To put it simply: too much citrus, not enough smokiness. It smells like the lemon water you'd get at an Italian restaurant in the opening, and dries down with the guaiacwood becoming a little more prominent — thus making it smell sweeter and a tiny bit smokier after the first 5 mins of wear. Personally, I think this has the perfect amount and intensity of citruses, but that's honestly about it; there's nothing else I can compliment this fragrance on. It'd be perfect as a room spray or a car air freshener, but that's not exactly a compliment than anything. If they put Jean-Claude Ellena on this one, I bet this would be an absolute banger.

zavi

If this wasn't Hermes I seriously doubt there would be this many positive reviews. This is such an uninspiring freshy there's really nothing special about it. I've resorted to using it as a room spray at this point.

Some additional thoughts: Way too expensive for what it is. The bottle cap is a really cheap piece of plastic. Can't say I'm impressed in the slightest.

aaronmilic

If you're a mature man with a nagging wife who's clueless about fragrances, suggesting "you should go and buy yourself a nice after shave" and want to take no risks of wearing something remotely interesting or noticeable, you just want to blend in and smell just a bit better than you usually do and don't want to spend too much money... then look no further.

joikgirl

Want to smell like an expensive mosquito spray, get this.

sgd11

Testing this right now…but from what I can tell so far this has LOADS of cheap ambroxan that isn’t mentioned in the note breakdown and it’s absolutely ruining the scent for me.

Update: Yep. Stuff is garbage. Straight ambroxan bomb. Smells like they used one of the cheaper iterations of the ambroxan molecule as well. The reviewers who were paid to hype this up should be ashamed of themselves. And so should Hermes.

EauDeBaldy

Get such a nice lime type of feel with this. Very beautifully done. The shame with this particular Hermes line, they are great for about an hour then fade away. I had the same feel and experience with vert d’orange… hits you right away then just… gone into a beautiful memory.

Worth a try, a sample but to buy a full bottle, that’s up to you. A good spring or summer, daytime try.

Subhuman

Never have I bought a backup bottle so fast. This stuff is incredible. A burst of fresh, full-bodied lemon and lime that almost immediately turns moody and weird, like a storm cloud interrupting an obnoxiously sunny day. If there's such a thing as "goth citrus", it's this. Fresh-cut grass and smoky black tea shroud the fruit, segueing into a mouth-wateringly tangy and dry sourness; I'm assuming this is the black lime/noomi basra accord, having yet to taste this exotic-to-me ingredient (although I've already ordered some from the House of Bezos, just to try). The spookily tenacious drydown is a dark green cedar/incense thing that feels like enough of an evolution from the smoky citrus that an obvious use of modern woody musks doesn't feel out of place, although there seems to be disagreement on that point. Apparently some of you sniff a whiff of ambroxide and are ready to smash plates, but I think it's deployed judiciously here, and I'd much rather smell someone who's bathed in Eau de Citron Noir over the latest Aventus knockoff.

Your mileage may vary, but I think this is one of Christine Nagel's most satisfying splashes for Hermès. Take a familiar concept - lemon cologne! What could be less original? - and turn it on its head with a creative twist, while keeping the whole thing wearable, versatile, and weirdly addictive. I genuinely hope this sells, and is never discontinued. (And PM me if you want someone to take that bottle you blind-bought off your hands.)

emil1724

The drydown is literally just Dior sauvage, it’s crazy. Can’t believe it hasnt been mentioned yet

kula

I wore it once. When I first put it on, it instantly reminded me of my grandpa and how he smelled back in the days and I wasn't sure if I'd like to smell like that, but I somehow found it interesting and wanted to give it a try so I didn't wash it off instantly and I didn't change my clothes before leaving the house.

I asked my brother how he felt about the smell and that it reminds me of grandpa. He replied, "yes, I had the same thought - your smell is like the grandparents' flat in earlier days". Our grandma was a heavy smoker.

The "compliments" I got the rest of the day ranged from "Do you remember the scent of old mothballs? You smell like that" to "What do you wear? It smells like vomit after a long night out".

Eau de Citron Noir is not for me, it smells old and unpleasant.

alphairone

A bright, cheerful lemon and citron, rind, pith, zest and all, puts Eau de Citron Noir in line with other in the Hermes Eaux de Cologne series. Splendid and invigorating, I can't deny the pleasure I derive from this—to a point. I do find the wisps of smoky black tea to be a unique twist, however, all else becomes wispy and it all quickly collapses into something thin and unsubstantial.

If only that delicious bitter citrus could've been extended with some perfumer trickery for just a little bit longer...

Schnuffke

I'm testing for the second time and have rarely been so undecided. To me, this is more interesting than portrayed by others, kind of mysterious. It reminds me of something in my past but I can't put my finger on it. Perhaps the smell of a strongly scented citrus soap back then when I was a heavy smoker, during summer holidays in France? There is definitely something French in it and the dry down is not just smoky but also soapy. The lemon does not last long, though it keeps lingering, and the tea note is not very distinct to me.

Personally, I find this intriguing, I'm "à la recherche du temps perdu." When did I smell this before? It certainly doesn't remind me of another fragrance, more of some citrus household cleaning product, an old building, and hints of cold cigarette smoke. I like it, although I'm not sure I'd wear it often and whether to buy a full bottle.

Personal matters aside, try it out. It's one of the more interesting offerings from this "uniscent" line of Hermès and in my opinion has a high artistic quality.

petshopb

Very nice fragrance. To me it is like a summer body-spray version of Dior Sauvage.

discardedandroid

Pretty neat, the note breakdown is spot on and I can pick out each note. Lemon lime smoke, though still mostly citrus. Not super strong, though pleasant. Recommend.

Granny Autismo

The opening really smells like an Italian restaurant. It smells exactly like how lemon water tastes. But, the sweetness and smoothness of the guaiac wood manifests in the drydown, making it smell much more pleasantly cologne-like. Be that as it may, it's a bit of a letdown that I don't get any smokiness.

lou6

It's a nice ''natural'' SMOKY citrus scent. Perfect in a warm spring and summer weather.
joyful, playful for casual occasion
I would consider it unisex.
Glad to have a sample but wouldn't buy a full bottle.
Fair performance for an eau de cologne.
7.5/10
wouldn't recommend but it's worth try. 7/10

SophiaViolette

I found the notes impressive the first time I sprayed it… a punch of fresh citrus and leather, very sexy! It’s leans more masculine, but I could also see a confident modern woman wear it very well too! It’s fresh and leathery, unique and smells expensive. Price is very fair.

I could go on about this perfume for ages. However, just like the formula itself, less is more when it comes to talking about this aftershave.

Firstly, I don't at all think this is unisex, if I smelled this on a woman, I'd assume she had a pair of balls.
Secondly, this perfume smells very good. It'll make you feel successful, powerful.

However, this is short lived. Unfortunately, this scent lasts a max of 4 hours, and although the top notes are incredibly punchy and smell fantastic, this fades before you've left your house.

I still love the scent, as it's easily one of my favorite blue scents. This collection overall I think was done very well with in terms of the top notes, however the longevity really lets it down, especially for the price, when you can buy extremely strong blue scents which also will make you feel the same way for cheaper.

Made by Kouros

After the citrus pretty quickly dries down, this is just an ambroxan/amberwood scent. No magic is done here to make citruses last longer. So, one hour of lovely black citruses; several hours of ambroxan/amberwood.

Having said that...

and this is quite uncommon for me to say, but...

this is a surprisingly classy ambroxan/amberwood. Wow. I just wrote that. Eau de Citron Noir is simple, masculine and probably quite sexy. In fact, I even quite like this. :o

bloodorangesoda

Very sour in the opening, lemon and lime are very apparent. Smoke is also very present. The citrus is sharp at first but the smoke and tea round out the edge and smooth it out. Over time (2.5hrs) it loses the smokiness such that it is almost sweet. It smells like lemon tart and Guaic wood. After the first hour, it is difficult to smell unless you raise your arm near your face. Good for summer during the day or a warm summer night. Hermes describes this fragrance as "midday to midnight " and I couldn't agree more.

Fragaddict123

The only scent that madam Nigel actually nailed from Hermès perfumes
It’s a very beautiful fascinating imaginative scent of black dry limes that we middle easterners eat with our food
Such a perfect job when it comes to what it’s meant to depict
All is good and well until we cross the 3rd hour mark where things crumble down unfortunately to a non existent Little leftovers
As much as I respect this creation but the performance was disastrous
I did buy a full bottle just out of pure respect for her art here although I know I won’t be wearing it much since I couldn’t enjoy it for so long

btd069

Rindy Citrus & Ambroxan right away and it's all you can smell during the opening, kinda of reminiscent of Hermes Eau Givre but not quite as sour. Then as it starts to dry, you get woods. I can't tell if I actually smell any smoke, or it's just cause its being suggestive by being listed as a note but i think i'm getting a very light, subtle smoke which comes out slightly more on the dry down. On the far dry down I'm getting a good dose of Ambroxan still, but it's not really helping extend the life very much. I'm not really getting much tea, other than a very light sprinkling. As most of the notes start to fade, it starts to smell like Molecule 02, so just just straight up Ambroxan. The Ambroxan sticks around on the skin a very long time......almost an entire day or at least half a day.

This whole line, including this scent, lasts for 3-4 hours for me. Performance is not good. This fragrances smell really nice. As i said earlier, the Ambroxan stays a long time, but all the other notes start disappearing at that 3-4 hour mark, when it's reminiscent of Molecule 02. Projection is not super noticeable, and sillage is not really there. Got this as a tester with cap for $50 so don't mind the terrible performance.......not remotely worth the retail price.

anamarialungu7

I like this perfume for working busy days during the summer. It feels fresh and clean and it makes me feel like I can conquer the world

Gorgeous smoky bitter citrus, smells magical! The citrus is very bitter and natural but the smokiness and spiciness can come off irritating in that defining strong, sharp "for men" kind of way that some perfumes do, which can seem strong and sneeze-inducing to some people. That being said, I know an extremely feminine-presenting woman that wears this as a signature scent and it's breath-taking! It comes off almost religious in a clean-bitter-lemony-incense sort of way.

Smelly_ponzu

Surprised pepper is not in the notes. Citrusy when first sprayed. Then it gets pretty sharp and i start to kind of hate it. Reading the comments made me realize why, yea this is sauvage.

DariaFrancesca74

Triumphant triumph of the highest level of citrus, a very refined masterpiece by Christine Nagel, the nose of the Hermès maison. Freshness, joyfulness, magic, sunshine make this fragrance magnetic: the harsh citrus notes victorious over the whole olfactory experience masterfully blend with reassuring bois and magical smoky notes. Great blend that is loved and remembered. Wonder.

EthanMk17

I Was Able To Test Eau de Citron Noir By Hermès When Visiting A Friend Recently. A beautiful Citrus Lemon and Lime opening with a distinct depth to the citrus with Citron. Very fresh, clean scent with missing depth past the citrus notes. For me I couldn't distinct out much smoke or anything else for that fact, within the fragrance. It smelt like Limoncello for me.

Performance: This is where Eau de Citron Noir Really Fails. Poor projection, I found even struggling to smell it off my skin at close range. Longevity was mediocre lasting around 3-4 Hours
Overall: Imagine your in the Amalfi Coast sipping ice cold Limoncello in the beautiful Italian Sun. Definitely smells like Limoncello, just a shame the performance and price overshadows this lovely scent.

erika.isme.98

The closest to a realistic lemonade scent I've ever come across!!!! Great opening but 0 lasting power. Dry down is sad like a cleaning product.

Angelov1314

Smoked lemon? The lemon has been in the closet for 1 year so is the cigarette butt.

In a good way it mimics 40% of the cigarette smell which I like.

Scent: 7.5/10

derby2169

I really was looking forward to trying this one, I generally enjoy Christine Nagel's approach to fragrance and very much enjoy all listed notes.
However here something went wrong, The moment I applied a smokey lemon note appeared and then immediately disappeared, underneath a peaty amber material, the type that doesn't scrub off.
Probably the worst of Hermes' otherwise stellar EdC line.

jacquavit

I completely understand how this fragrance has such divided reviews. It does smell like cigarette butts and lemon rind, in the best way possible. I'm a huge lemon nerd, the zestier the better. This fragrance incorporates the bitter peel with smoked wood, giving it the beautiful artistic outdoorsy and unisex edge. I can't get enough, but its not for everyone.
The notes are simple: citrus and smoked wood. Silage is not long for the citrus at about 2 hours, but the smoke sits for around 4. I can faintly smell it on my clothes the next day making it very intimate.

Not for everyone but definitely one of my favourites! A simple masterpiece.

jellisunc

Reminds me if the citrus used in Atelier - but something in here disagrees with my nose. Opening is great and refreshing, but I think the woody notes are whats giving me a headache.

lzblz

Shame this doesn’t last long enough on my skin to figure out. I do get the similarities to Sauvage EDT and Atelier Cedar atlas however.

Enrium

I admire Hermès as a fragrance house - as a completely separate entity from their legendary leather goods. Their scents are consistently excellent, due in no small part to hiring the best in-house perfumers. Only a nose the calibre of Christine Nagel could be a worthy successor to Jean-Claude Ellena, and she delivers every time.

Eau de Citron Noir is no different - a simple lemon cologne on the surface, it follows a clear inspiration - the black lime used in Middle Eastern cuisine. I find it so refreshing that the "Noir" actually has a specific meaning here, instead of being tacked on meaninglessly to a flanker to denote evening use or "edginess". This scent is simple and effective - tart, fresh, dark, smoky and woody, yet is unmistakably lemon. In crafting this scent, Nagel deftly avoids the common pitfalls of lemon-dominant scents, i.e. cleaning products/candied lemon sweets/cold and flu medicine.

It opens with a tart lemon note, reminiscent of the darker, more bitter bergamot but unmistakably lemon. The tea note that emerges soon afterwards is genius - its unmistakable green, herbal quality complements the citrus to perfection, adding freshness while enhancing the citrus.

The fresh opening is joined by a smoky-woody accord after a little while - cosy and pleasant, it is like fragrant wood burning on an outdoor fire. This is an unexpected counterpoint to the zesty lemon. That's it until it fades, and I have no need of anything else - this is a simple yet utterly satisfying lemon-dominant scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate, and it is unisex, even masculine-leaning.

I'm not a lover of lemon, but this is excellent. In fact, it is the best lemon scent I can remember trying. Perfect for hot days. 4/5.

petshopb

I love it. However, for me it is similar to Dior Sauvage. It is like a Dior Sauvage sport summer splash with some extra lemon.
Smell: 8/10
Performance: 5/10 ( it is enough for summer)

Koummya

Really nice bottle! However, a pleasant enough scent, but lime & smoke this is not. I hear the Hermès ver of a brighter, icier Dior Sauvage and I agree. I’d love this if it had the 9+ hrs staying power of Dior Sauvage EDT but this lasts maybe 2.5 hours on my skin? Sigh. How is that allowed? Hermés, you could’ve had a best seller here! Whatever.

SylvesterW

Cool citrus scent with weak performance

naipe

Remains of bitter lemon peels soaked in alcohol at the bottom of empty glasses and piles of cigarette butts in the ashtray... who would like to smell like a living-room the morning afterwards a party? Not me

chrisk252

Peppery bluish woody citrus...nice, but so weak and doesn't last at all. I can barely smell it an hour after 3 sprays on my forearm. It's nice enough, but not amazing and terrible performance.

Scent: 7 / Sillage: 6 / Longevity: 5

brunono

As all Hermes are products, this perfume is elegant, classy and it's delicious. The only problem is that it doesn't last long (2/3 hours?)

el-bi

It’s a masterpiece. Smokey lemon .such a luxurious frag! The shower gel is even better, peppery and bougie! I keep buying and buying it !

Zeeth

This is a really good Fragrance the opening is the most beautiful citrus I have ever smelled, then the drydown become more creamy, a really pleasent scent,
For an EDC it's a really good longevity over 6 hours but become a skin scents in 3-4hours
Someone said that it is a Sauvage version of Hermès and I totally agree with that,

Hermès should really release a Concentrée version of the Citron noir like they did for Orange Verte and Pamplemousse rose

Phresh Man

THIS IS SO OVERPRICED!!! I got a sample from Nordstrom because I was impressed in the store but the performance is laughable! It will anger you because this stuff sells for $140 and it smells like muted citrus peels that barely last 3-4hrs. Good thing I tried it out because it's a super terrible performer.

E.H.Tersono

This is a fun lemon. It's the lemon of a candy, not a fresh fruit. The lemon of a cocktail, not a lemonade. The lemon of a tart. A really interesting take on citrus. Like most of the Hermes fragrances I've tried, I really like the opening so the first 20 minutes or so are lovely, then it gets boring for me. Dry-down is fast, and then it's gone, it's a completely different scent with nothing from the opening remaining, and it's not a scent I like - a kind of cleansing wipe powdery sourness.

ForestOfFragrances

I love this scent. It's a pity that it's not long lasting, but otherwise this is the true epitome of what citrus fragrances should smell like.

The rating is too low for this underrated fragrance!

Patternatter

I’m female and I absolutely adore this…
Hermes fragrance always smells classy, even the ‘fresher’ ones such as this.
Out of all of the ‘eau de’ line, for me, this has the best longevity and sillage. My skin drinks ALL fragrance and most last an hour tops. This one lingers most of the day.
This triggers intense nostalgia. I took this with me on a trip to Jamaica and now every time I smell it, I’m transported back to the Caribbean.

Bert_

A metallic and lemony ambroxan fragrance. It can be seen as a chilled interpretation of Dior Sauvage EDT by Hermès.
While it may remind me of citronella oil that my parents used as mosquitoe repellent, it doesn't smell cheap and even reaches the niche standards.
It is definitely a men fragrance.
It smells very metallic and can remind of rust smell.

RejdaPersa

I really like the smell of dried Persian limes, on which this scent is supposed to be based. I use them in my cooking and have a jar in my pantry; they have a pleasantly bitter, powdery scent in their raw form, becoming more tart and bitter after cooking.

I was excited to try Citron Noir for this reason, but on my skin all I get for hours is a very nice, but pure, sparkling citron smell. No smoke or black tea at all. On my skin, this smells similar to Orange Vert. It lasts a long time for an Eau de Cologne, almost as long as an edt. Lovely fragrance, but it does not smell like it’s inspiration by any means.

monkey500

On my skin, on a warm day, Hermès Eau de Citron Noir opens up with a very natural smelling smoky wood incense accord like last nights camp fire; wholly masculine leaning… the smoky woods project for a few hours with a peppery incense aspect.

9 hours later Citron Noir remains as a skin scent… one of the best re: longevity from the Eau de Hermès line.

TL;DR: Linear, natural smelling, decent longevity but ultimately lacking a certain ‘something’. There are much better smoky wood incense fragrances for a similar price.

bittun

Delicious! Fresh, sharp citron to start, which soon softens to a beautiful hazy lemon. Gradually the lemon merges with a leathery scent - smells so clean! The lemon then sharpens up a bit again, and coexists with leathery/woody notes. The Citrus slowly dissipates, and what smells like leather and wood dominates. Retains a sensation of fresh and expensive soapiness nevertheless. Surprised leather is not a note. Still present on my wrists the next morning. Totally delightful unisex fragrance. As a woman I love it.

S M Mehedi Hassan

Wah.. Excluding the performance, its a scent that acts like energizer. Longevity is poor. Its a scent not for others but for self. Enjoy.

JessVanEgg

If you’ve ever used citronelle as a kid, you’ll instantly be taken back to those times. It smells amazingly of lemon and tea.

Price is pretty ok. Sillage is moderate but the scent lasts for no more than 3 hours, which is pretty disappointing.

Despite its low longevity, I still think it's a 7/10.

MadDrSparks73

Received a sample of this with another fragrance I purchased. Sprayed it on my wrist 3 times to try it out.

I have to say, I'm not impressed with this fragrance, AT ALL. It just smells cheap, as if the perfumer was rushed to get something out on the market, and just threw some aromachemicals together and said, "HERE YA GO. NOW LEAVE ME ALONE, I'M BUSY ON SOMETHING ELSE."

Extremely light. The opening citrus fades off within 30 minutes to a skin scent that's barely detectable. There MIGHT be a "smoke" scent there with the citrus opening, but I'm not detecting it.

The base note of guaiac wood doesn't exist, it's ambroxan. If it did contain guaiac, this frag would lift off, stand out a lot more, and last longer. The black tea with ambroxan is the backbone, which doesn't and can't carry much weight. So the frag just slithers off in slug fashion.

This isn't just an "I'll pass" fragrance. This is a "Get this headache inducing chemical bomb off of my skin and outta my nose" fragrance.

mravenec

The text printed on the 2ml sample I've received reads: "the elegant and lingering freshness of lemon with woody, smoky notes".
Hmmm... not really. I mean the opening kind of tricks you into believing that this fragrance is designed for this sophisticated gentleman the brand likes to portray in their ads. What I get is indeed a burst of citruses which is gone in 3 mnutes with the cheap woody and smoky notes present right from the beginning.
I must admit that all the preceding comparisons to such fragrances as "Bleu" are, alas, completely justified. The problem here is the chemical and artificial base, which smells of heavy ambroxan and aromachemicals and just doesn't feel right in the Hermès lineup. The result is a very mainstream creation that predominantly aims at the "male" consumer. A pass for me I'm afraid.

Kitojj

Great opening, super juicy (citrus and watery). After a few hours it turns into a Cologne type of scent with some metallic aspect. It lasts quite some time on my skin

PPAN

The opening is just spectacular. Extremely realistic lime in a swirl of smoke. It is Middle Eastern and Western and Asian altogether in a very classy way. The drydown is indeed a lot less charming, as it is what feels like a combination of synthetic guaiac wood and tea that has become acidic. But seriously this is a cologne, what do I expect? Just reapply as much as you want, it doesn't project that far and doesn't stay that long anyway.

Purrsian

Although it is said that this is inspired by a Middle Eastern cuisine, to me, this is a perfume version of Hong Kong style lemon tea, served in local traditional cafes. A special blend of stems, leaves and sprouts of Ceylon tea in a very specific ratio is to provide the tea with full bodied well rounded aroma, smoky, borderline dry and bitter yet somewhat luminous with woody sweet dimensions, the tea is heavily brewed until it is as dense and dark as espresso. Later, adding hot water in 1:1 ratio, adding 3 thinly sliced lemon and some rock sugar. You would never want to poke the lemon slices or else it would turn too tart and bitter, just let them soaked and gently release the aroma and infuse the air...

Eau de Citron Noir is an exceptionally wonderful option for the usual neroli, lemony fruity fresh summer fragrances, simple but very well made, dense yet refreshing, very addictive.

Fabien77

My second bottle is below its half and I,m trying to go easir on the accelerator, since Im always in the hunt for something as evocative efgect as Edcn had on my instantly. It is yummy, real green limes pulp and zest, with this modern ambar bas (hence the associations with Dior Sauvage), but much more sophisticated and less aggressive. A love at first sniff. I wore it in a travel to scotland and this iss the scent that accompanied me on Isle of Key... no more words needed. Whenever I wear it, I het right away back to the colines and pricess cross street and the castles. Longevity ans sillage are IMPRESSIVE for an EAU DE COLOGNE !!!
So far, the fragrance that I received the majority of comoliments in my whole life. All that said, the quest nos is to cope with my infidelity issues. Just as life.

Len511

l received it because I didn't cancel my perfume subscription in time and didn't have any choices picked. Initially like
any fragrances I've never smelled anything like, and don't find immediately offensive, I use for a few days to form an opinion. I did read a few reviews before actually receiving it. My preconception was that I probably wouldn't much like
a lemon citrus or a cologne that smelled like lemonade. That said, I really like it. What it actually smells like to me is an
over ripe lime orchard with fresh asphalt paving the orchard roads. It puts me in a summer state of mind in the middle of winter. I'd say it's more realistic than ethereal and more plausible than fictional. For a fragrance, I find that refreshing.

drewskii

Scent smells so damn good, so citrusy so juicy and tart but...... the longevity is complete crap. The scent barely last for an hour and then disappear even after spraying like 7 times, this is a lovely scent but it's not worth buying cuz of the bad performance.

Cinnamonpeelerswife

It opens like lemon pledge—much sharper citrus than I expected from Hermès, but it’s startlingly brief, and followed by a boozy, smoky accord that my husband brilliantly describes as “disco”.

The longer I wear this the more it smells like emerging from a discotheque in Mallorca as the sun rises. It’s brisk and hard and raspy—like someone’s new beard against your chin at 6 am.

My daughter says “it smells like the dentist”, whIch is also charmingly apt.

It’s magnificent and evocative of youthful excess. I highly recommend it.

LiniBogBog

I bought this one to my husband and I am addicted to HIM :) (he is not that much excited:)) But I love it !It's long lasting and there is something really irresistible...If I was a fragrance I would choose to be this one :)

evacecilias

Just found and tried this one out today. I initially find the lemon very true and fresh cut, but the woods and smoke took over too soon and I had hoped for more if a citrus with added depth by the noir, now I got a smooth dark powdery wooden scent with a hint of background lemon. It is not what I was looking for but I really really like it.I could easily wear this both day and nighttime. It has vibes from two other favs I really enjoy .But that's a different story. I say way to go for the brand as given this one some edge. I meen as a contrary to a lot of the other reviews.

adamgac

Smells like a mojito to me. The lime comes through very strongly. I pick up some minty freshness as well

intlV

This downright stinks. It simply isn't well blended. I'm shocked by Hermes here. I agree with the other reviewer that said it reminded them of something from Dior. Even Bath and Body Works can make a dark citrus scent that's actually wearable. The only plus side is the longevity is poor, so I didn't have to deal with it too long. It's just so basic, I only picked up 2 notes, orange peels and burned woods.

silent_hill_dylan

I find that this fragrance has THE most realistic citrus notes! The smokey aspect gives character to the fragrance - the only downside is the dry down smells just like Dior Sauvage to me.

DrNDJas

Beauty and the Beast. Beauty: the delightful citrus opening, exhibiting all the qualities of this fabled house. Beast: the horribly cheap smelling, nose burning base. After the citruses evaporate, all that’s left is a very generic, cheap, and far too aggressive synthetic woodiness that is not at all pleasant. I expect better from Hermes. Do not blind buy this one expecting high quality. The opening is nice, but that’s all. I’m sorry I can’t find something better to say about this one.

Yourhumblenarrator

Somewhere between a grape fruit and a lime, the first burst of Eau de Citron Noir is impressively realistic. Wet, pulpy, citrus, sour rinds and all. We've come to know Hermes as an exceptional house for citrus, and if lime is specifically your thing then she's worth a try. A mellow black tea soon joins the top notes to create some depth. Something that seems like a touch of ambroxan is also present to keep it from stumbling too far out of the safety zone, and some have even likened this to a Bleu de Chanel for that reason. It's fine, but with Hermes being the king of summer fragrances and all, there are just too many better offerings to choose from. Lovely but redundant and unnecessary. I really wish they'd concentrate a little more on quality over quantity, but that's pretty much the story of every fragrance company in existence. Beautiful bottle design as always.

ajagrze

The problem I have with ambroxan-heavy frags boils down to the simple fact that while I can (to a certain extent) enjoy them on others, I can't stand them on myself. They're not pleasant, entertaining or artistically relevant. What is more, they all too often get dominated by the obnoxious star of the show, and - let's face it - ambroxan is no oud.
Eau de Citron Noir pairs THE NOTE with a synthetic-smelling citrus accord, the harshness of which I might find oddly appealing elsewhere, but not here, in a cologne-style fragrance. The overall effect is very sharp and uninventive, but if I were to try and be nice, I'd say it works as a rugged alternative to the likes of Sauvage (UGH...) and Bleu de Chanel (ugh...).

Beyonder

This fragrance has a mysterious recipe which reveals a new kind of freshness. A unique recipe, aromatic and smokey that is an olfactory paradox for the mysterious dandies. Christine Nagel, perfumer creator of the house Hermes chose the black lemon to distill its quintessence. She selected this rare raw material grown in Iran and the Middle East. In the Middle East, black lemon is prepared from lime scent with acidulous, zesty and rustling accents. Exposed in full sun, limes become black and give off a golden and smoky fragrance. The dried preparation is then crushed to become a spice with acid flavors sublimating Iranian dishes such as soups, rice or stuffing. Another beautiful sunny creation from my favorite designer house for summer scents. Thumbs up for the creativity!

georgi.nedelchev

Just tested it today. First impression was not so good, but later it settled very well on the skin, with sweet, salty, spicey and smokey notes. More mature than I expected. I thought that the scent will not last longer, but more than two hours later it still projects very well from just one spray.

faoumed

I tried the sample omg th3 scent just choked mei was expecting better than this coming from hermes

cbeau

The opening of this fragrance contains probably the most convincing realistic citrus notes I've ever had the pleasure to smell. Together with just a hint of smokiness it makes for a truly great composition. However, the dry down sees the fresh citrus shift from convincingly-realistic to convincingly Dior-Sauvage. It was uncanny, as if it were a party trick "watch this cologne transform into another cologne". If you like Sauvage maybe you'll like this, because again it has a great opening. But for me, the dry down leaves me wanting something more original.

shopkw

My go to summer frangrance now. What does it for me is the sparkling fresh 3D citrus. Its fresh and has the realistic fresh zest to it. Masterful blended with the heavier notes that do not make the frangrance dark on my skin. But gives it a frame, character, uniquiness to play in. Its been 12 hours and still a vivid skin scent. The sparkling citrus is dimmed but it lasted about 5 hours. Which for a summer freshie is great. Im complimented whenever I wear it. Sillage and project are good. Not beast. But this is best worn on light breezy summer days. The best in the Hermes line on me and one of the best fresh cirtus scent I have tried. I'm surprised it ranks so low. Hidden gem in plain site alert.

gerry.madoni

A very pleasant dark citrus scent most especially for the hot summer months. Probably the only drawback is longevity which is quite poor and requires far too many reapplications for any real lasting power. Not unusual to get through 10 - 15 sprays to get through the day. So, in effect there is little bang for the buck with this fragrance. A shame as it is really quite good and at edp strength would be a winner. Overall has shades of JV Artisan Black about Citron Noir. With the latter being more appealing and wearable in any situation. If indeed Hermes was to release a concentrated edt or edp version of Citron Noir, I would order several bottles without any hesitation.

6.75/10

Gianfranco65

I love this scent. It is super sexy, but its longevity is very weak. Too bad!

Tuvok

This is a true unisex. Me and my girlfriend can both easily wear it. On my skin, the performance is terrible, max 2 hours. It also is not noticed by anyone and not complimented. It is a personal fragrance for me. I wear it for myself on hot days when I don't want to bother people with it. To me, it's a realistic lemon, a mouth-watering scent that wakes me up. I do not believe it evolves much on my skin, except for toning down a bit from the initial freshly squeezed juice smell and showing some depth. It is not worth the original retail price. I bought it for 200 PLN ($50 USD) and still it is too much for the performance it offers. But sometimes you just have to let go, stop calculating and just enjoy the fragrance even if it just lasts a moment. So if you can do that, buy it and enjoy. If not, just forget about it and any other eau de cologne from Hermes

Houdini4

Totally confused by this fragrance.
It’s either a work of stirring, modern, genius or a unusual and synthetic take on the classical citrus fragrance. The base is just plain aroma chemical woody warmth, I’m not saying I don’t like it, in fact I’m very fond of it this sort of stuff, just seems like an odd and jarring sidestep for this line, (certainly the green and citrus ones anyway) and left me a little confused. I got Basenotes of synthetic Amberone cedar, and even synthetic Oud but definitely a heavy leathery slightly smoky accord.
The citrus opening isn’t even that bright or dominant to mask this effect, and Citron Noir comes straight out of the bottle a touch on the harsh side for me. As I mentioned I do kinda like it but not enough to buy or wear again.

zhiang0113

As a follow up from my review in February, I bit the bullet and bought a bottle!

I gave it a full wearing today with 5 sprays, and I still love the photorealistic lemon rind scent in the beginning. However, it is definitely lacking in the projection department, and I couldn't really detect it most of the time by the 1 hour mark.

I could occasionally catch whiffs of the slightly salty smoke note up to 4-5 hours later, but it was incredibly faint by then.

However! It definitely is tenacious in terms of longevity as a skin scent; it consistently lasts overnight on my wrist, and if I'm lucky, I can still smell it over 12 hours later if I put my nose up to my skin.

I have no regrets purchasing it; I just wish it could project more!

dzingunyte

fantastic scent for summer time, super longevity as for eau de cologne, more like eau de parfum.definitely in mt rotation of scents for summertime

clintjr82

This is the best of of the citrus genre, along with d verte orange. This and the 2009 d verte orange are classics that should be in your collection. They are super fresh and natural. Smells very good and gets compliments all the time

Loredana0108

Smells like no other citrus fragrance I've tried before. Starts with juicy, sour lemons & limes, then this beautiful smoky note appears and adds depth. One of a kind olfactory experience and I'm thinking of buying a full bottle of it. I'm not a citrus fan, by the way, but this perfume is so good!

Steveg15205

Where to start...........let’s say love at first spray. First, this is not a masculine fragrance, i would almost identify this as truly being unisex. What I love about fragrance is the depth and truly wonderful notes. The opening is this giant hint of lemon, lime, and citrus, that gives this beautiful sillage for about and hour, then yes this goes into a nice skin sent. However, this is designed to be worn in the heat of summer and i found myself in the summer sun i could smell this amazing sillage of black tea, mixed with lime, and almost a sage like smoke. This is one of the summer sents that makes people go what are you wearing (in a good way). Overall, this lives up to the Hermes name and quality. I would like to see this maybe into the eau de tolliete or Parfum range. I do believe that this could stand up against some of the big summer time designers. This is a definite yes from me.

Lom

Starts off with the smell of a lemon sherbert, like a super strong popsicle. Then it turns into a more soapy lemony smell. After about an hour it turns into a pretty nice smoky black lime which is unusual and has a nutty facet. This phase stays for hours on the skin and is the best part of the perfume. I have no idea why, but I imagine this being especially appealing on a tall blonde guy.

UPDATE: You truly appreciate this fragrance once you try it in very warm and humid weather. Wow! This becomes so elegant and fresh and very beautiful. A true life saver. I LOVE it now.

zhiang0113

Starts off with a strong citron/lemon rind note - astringent, citric, definitely not juicy or sweet. It slowly fades into a slightly acrid and pungent smoke, which transitions into an incense-like haze. It has an ambroxan-like phase on my skin too.

I absolutely love Citron Noir - it's an interesting twist on citrus-centric fragrances, and it lasts amazingly long on me! It projects pretty strongly for around 2 hours, and I could still smell it on my wrist after 9 hours and a shower! Would absolutely recommend it for those who want to leave an intriguing, mystifying scent trail.

sugar_sweet

Like lemon with herbs, starting is very strong, after comes masculine notes, i like it but i am not going use it.

tayyabforyouth

This opens with a beautiful natural smelling mix of sour citrus fruits (to my nose, lemon, lime, and citron) along with some sort of salty accord to it. It's like a glass of lemon-lime-citron-ade with some salt added. I don't really smell any smoke (as in for instance Maison Margiela's At the Fireplace, or Amouage's Interlude Man). Maybe my nose is interpreting this 'salt' note as smoke. I quite enjoy the note in any case. It's a very unique and interesting opening for a citrus fragrance. However projection and longevity are both weak so not thrilled by this.

3.5/5

Jvs3005

Probably not a very special contribution for anyone wanting to buy this but I am a 30 year old woman and I love this one. It's so refreshing yet smoky and woody, it's real love and a special one in the female fragrance scene, I believe. Bought it instantly. Totally unisex.

My5Scents

I thoroughly enjoy the invigorating opening of fresh, ripe lemon and lime, with a touch of smokiness. It’s so natural and very well executed. As it dries down, gentle woody notes and a subtle floral accord merge with the citrus and smoke. I wish that the high definition citrus blast of the opening lasted longer as this is the most exciting part of this fragrance experience. Once this is over, what follows is not remotely unpleasant, it smells really good, but it doesn’t break new ground. Actually, it smells a little generic.
Despite it’s shortcomings, I still think it would make a decent choice for an everyday summer cologne; not every fragrance needs to be groundbreaking and not everyone is looking to stand out with a unique, unusual fragrance.
I much prefer this to Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue, which uses inferior quality ingredients and smells far more synthetic overall. It cannot match the deliciously realistic opening of EDCN, and while both fragrances have a similair generic dry down, the Hermes is clearly a higher quality product.

CobraCommander

Lime and lemon mix don't work well. The smoke note doesn't do much. They should have instead added basil or black pepper instead of smoke. As with all citrus frags, this doesn't last long and dry down smells like nothing.

atarilynx

Uggh...while I was at first ambivalent about this scent, it has worn on my nerves and now it's a dislike. It has quite a lot in common with HErmes TdH Vetiver Intense, a fragrance that was born and released at essentially the same time. They could be called twins separated at birth.

There is a thick plasticky quality to this scent and in TdH VI. CN doesn't seem to have much smoke to my nose...and I'm not opposed to the black lemon scent overall, it just seems it can be used to better effect.

Agree this would be acceptable for the legions of BdC and Sauvage fans...I'm not one of them.

ScarlettX

The top notes were really fresh, citrusy and enjoyable, like a good light lemonade. I was amazed how good it smelled.
The base notes are getting more masculine, smoky and spicy. It's okay, but it's not amazingly uplifting like the top notes.
I'm not sure about it, have to give it another try probably.

Hassan321

Everytime I spray this, I get hungry for some Lemonade. it's almost edible and I am this close to drinking it

kuncoro

Another love-at-the-first-spray. Usually I don't really like lemon etc. But apparently Hermès could combine the freshness in a pleasant way. I took it with me to wear it before light business meetings to boost my freshness & creativity.

GRAF

Love. Why? Because I like Sauvage. Citron Noir has a similar vibe at the backgroud as Sauvage in its late dry down. This Hermes contains smooth ambroxan in low percentage and has 4-5 hours longevity as a skin scent. Most of its life is a skin scent but the opening has moderate projection for about 20 minutes. Then it starts to settle down on the skin. Citron Noir is different from the rest of this line, feels masculine and modern.

Up front is a very natural greenish citron opening with a feeling of a lemon peel mixed with some lime. Then comes a fresh note of black tea. I do not get much smoke, in fact I do not get smoke at all. The guaiac wood is very discreet at the background.

I don't know how Buddha's hand or black lime (they say that this Hermes contain these ingredients) smells like but I do not detect any unusual or unfamiliar note. Citron Noir is safe, refreshing, common smell, very pleasant if you like Sauvage and very versatile & suitable for high temperatures.

Dominant notes are citron, lemon, lime, black tea. I also get traces of oakmoss after about half an hour and something herbal, citrusy herbal.  It's a nice & simple scent.

Kon-nos91

Well, not a huge fan of Hermes perfumes, they may are statements but for my taste are a bit linear. Of course you can be noticed and feel classy, but to be very honest, I never been that experienced with the house. Maybe I will in the near future.

If you like citrus-ies, this is a total must. Ok, you would say tell us something new, citron noir, what it could smell like? Caramel? If you like D&G light blue EDT for women vibe, you'll fall in love. It also reminds a bit of Neroli Portofino from Tom Ford, less intense and more 'marine'. Initial first snif is like pure fresh lime and bitter lemon essense. I can't detect anything else, maybe a bit of black tea.

It is called unisex, I don't belive in perfume genders but here it's like 55% masculine-45% feminine. As time passes you can detect a soft smokiness too. All in all, I didn't impressed at all, it's just not my cup of tea but I can assure you that lasting power is good. About sillage, here's the magic. You may want more complex & strong perfumes in such prices or you may think that a perfume can't be romantic without floral notes or rose, but if you smell this during a summer day...you will be charmed!!! Citric mixes aren't only uplifting or 'happy' but can wake up ones heart in seconds.

p.s: Remind me to gift it to my mother.

Aguirre

Thick and bitter lemon+lime peel. That's all you need to know.
Meh.

This is where Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue failed for me. LB gave off a really sour smell on my skin and even from the bottle it smelt off to me. When I first smelled Eau de Citron Noir on the test strip it smelled like fresh lime and lemon and I loved it. When I sprayed it on my skin the notes didn’t changed so this was a yes for me. Very fresh and light, and it makes me think of summertime sipping ice cold drinks in the sun. The Hermès store in Melbourne did not have the big bottle as they sold out so I opted for the 4 15ml travel bottles pack that came in their own individual pouches. Not cheap though but this is worth it for me and can’t wait to wear in summer as it we are still in winter here in Australia as I write this.

ffunch

Delicious and unique lemon, smoke, and tea. I just wish that the lemon part would last longer. I want to smell more of it. But I like the guaiac smokey dry-down as well.

Jonayla

For me it is a NO. Smells of clothes that have been in front of the campfire whole weekend. After that someone srayed those a little bit citron air-freshener. That is Hermés Eau de Citron Noir if you want to homemade it. :D I love Hermés but this confused me.

jelenaeva

never been more excited about overused perfume glossary term ‘noir’ - after galop, citron noir marks such a nice beginning for christine nagel and her hopefully, successful hermès opus.

never quite a fan of jean-claude ellena, i really like this majestically orchestrated cologne, an unexpected match of initial citrus blast and resinous backdrop, which beautifully evolves into not your average smokiness with solid longevity and wonderful, old skool cologne drydown.

longevity is better when compared to narcisse bleu and eau de gentiane blanche, and sillage is quite good after initial citruses calm down.

istvan.buda.779

Hermes made their version of Bleu De Chanel/ Sauvage. At least they not going to make a million flankers like Dior and Chanel do. You don't like it you don't have to buy it

allwritey

Opens with a bright, lightly sweet citrus accord that immediately turns smoky. It has something that reminds me of toasted coconut or sesame seeds. I feel it needs to be a bit more balanced (with a citrusy floral maybe?) to keep the citrus notes alive at least for another 30 minutes and keep the concept of charred, masculine-y lemons alive.

Citron Noir, even if it is an EDC, is disappointingly wispy and weak, with little to no projection. It might be OK to wear in warm weather although it has a warming rather than cooling effect because of the smoky, gourmandy note.

Devilicious94

After a few wears on the skin of the Citron cologne, the lemon zesty peel blast quickly fades and smells too much like a cleaning product.

Most lemon scents to me have this association unless florals or spicy woods are mixed well.

Not worth the money imo, much better long lasting citrus smells in the market.

Jish80

Smells strongly of dark wood, black tea, and cured citron. The scent is masculine, clean and fresh without having that department store cologne quality. It is not for everyone but this is a very classy blend.

Danceswithscent

Smells of a kitchen fire someone tried to clean up with some
cheap orange cleaner. Couldn’t wait for it to die, which thankfully happens fairly quickly. WTF Hermes.

Bromigo

Absolutely terrible fragrance. Other people reviewing this must be much less sensitive to Woody-amber type aromachemicals, because that’s the only thing I can smell after the first 10 minutes. It’s a shame too, because the background elements are quite alluring, but they get lost in a sea of rubbing alcohol-like harshness.

pauroj

super lemony , it is fresh but i somehow feel like i have smelled this a thousand times before, it remains sharp doesn`t turn sour which is a bug plus , perfect for summer !

thethe

It’s fantastic. Longevity is rather low but I like to think that some fragrances are meant to sit close to the skin. It’s great that there are options out there for those who want to smell great while at the same time don’t feel it necessary to project.

Michelle12345678

This dark, spicy, manly lemon smells SO GOOD. I am going to buy a bottle immediately.

It almost smells like something you could eat. Like peanut brittle.

This is addicting and it lasts a really long time on me. 12+ hours.

Vegas Pauli

Huge fan this line especially Neroli Dore, Gentiane, and Narcisse Bleu and Citron gets a strong like from me. Hermes has a knack for producing fragrances that smell so natural, like your experiencing the essence of a live plant and Citron delivers with a brisk and sour citrus opening. It reminds me of a freshly squeezed grapefruit peel, not the pink one but the sour yellow kind. This is classic hermes: expensive smelling, sophisticated and very nice. The dry down turns very masculine and reminds me of Dior Savage. Good or bad, of all the Hermes Eaux de Cologne collection, this smells the most like a "mans cologne". Like Sauvage this is a good workplace, daytime, business suit kind of fragrance. Brisk, sharp and clean its a good high quality scent and very long lasting. My only critique is its not overly original or a necessary addition to this line, but Ill enjoy my bottle until its gone .

trabuquera

Eau D'Isappointment I'm afraid. On paper every single ingredient in this is a favourite of mine, I love the house in general and this series of bright citric colognes in particular, and will even forgive them their poor longevity. Loved the idea of a smoky/dark lemon - as I am crazy for Persian style dried limes and Moroccan-style salted preserved lemons in food - and the first, strikingly crisp yet moody burst of this is a real thrill - the first citric I've ever tried with a sense of actual menace and dark to it. Something's going right when you first smell a 'fume in the sterile, conditioned, dry cold air of an airport terminal and still want it madly.

But I jumped too soon, because sadly, on me, the longer perspective on this one goes darker still and more bitter - reminding me of generic men's colognes, and not in a good way (and I'm told it's uncannily similar to Dior Sauvage.) Never outright unwearable (even on my female skin) but somehow not quite delicious - too sour, too dark overall imho. Interesting, but a little wrong.

45yoGWM

I'm 10 mins into my first experience wearing this. (I got a sample yesterday at the store.) The opening didn't grab me, and now that it's evolved slightly, I'm still not interested.

Hermes has so many citrus fragrances, it's impossible not to compare. For me, it doesn't hold a candle to Néroli d'Oré or Terre d'Hermes, so I won't be giving this another go. But for someone very interested in lemon + tea notes, it could be worth seeking out.

Update: Okay, 45 minutes in, this is staying harsh and unpleasant. A scrubber for me.

justfloral

After spraying: joyful lemon note - resinous, realistic (it isn't the pastel lemon in Eau D'Orange Verte).
But it turns very quickly masculine, after 15 minutes I can scent typical aftershave (with fougere note of fern and incense).

Stephen patton

At last, a citrus frag with a twist which makes it a bit more interesting, takes you through a journey of fresh and dark. I can smell the tea note straight away, don't get me wrong, it did take me back a bit but if you give it a chance to work with your skin chemistry, it a really nice drydown, not my fav or the Hermes line but a very welcoming release. 7/10

Bubbles1964

Like other Hermes colognes, this is too fleeting for me to consider buying. Citrus opening was beautiful, but gone in less than an hour. Turns into a faint, smoky guauic wood base but only noticed when my nose was pressed up against my skin.

I loved the opening and even liked the base. If this comes out in a stronger formula I'll be first in line.

Lom

It is as if Hermès took Eau d'Orange Verte and extracted out of it the unique bitter-sweetness that makes it stand out. This is pretty straight forward citrus with a bit of what smells like a rotten note which is surprisingly appealing. It doesn't have the off putting after taste many lemony fragrances have and there is defenitely no cat uriness like in Eau d'Orange Verte. The main problem is that this is really safe, verging on generic, even though it is well made and has an aroma of luxury like most Hermès perfumes. Another con is a short longevity. If I had the extra cash laying around I would get it for summer, but I don't.

cranky137

First 20 minutes you feel a very promising freshly-cut lemon, like when you are cooking. (Very realistic and not at all all hesperidic as lemon is usually represented). After the opening, you get Dior Sauvage. Comfy and so well-known.

In my opinion, this is a good-to-go variation for women to have a permission to wear a "homme Sauvage". At the same time, more feminine as other Colognes from this range (except Rhubarbe which is definitely feminine). I quite like it!

Longevity, consistent with other Colognes from Hermes, max 4h.

Gumbinator

Tried this one today in the mall. Was very excited to see it. Tried it, unfortunately a hard pass. Just a bland lemon scent with a kind of dirty smoke smell. Was anticipating a lot more.

StellaDiverFlynn

On my skin, Eau de Citron Noir is dominated by lemon and smoky notes almost in equal measure.

The opening lemon note is wonderful! Its aromatic, almost herbal peel is the first to greet my nose, and the ripe, juicy pulp soon follows. Its tartness is no longer piquant like that of a fresh lemon, but slightly fermented like the luscious tart-sweetness of confit lemons.

However, the smoky note that appears roughly 20 minutes later, turns out to be a big disappointment to me. It's not the leathery, rounded smokiness of black tea that I had hoped, but the ubiquitous, arid woody amber aromachemicals that are omnipresent in many designer and niche fragrances aiming at a male clientele. I have to admit that this type of ingredients are not among my favourite, but when it's carefully blended within like Mona di Orio Bohea Bohème or Rania J Ambre Loup, at least I can tolerate. However, in Eau de Citron Noir, this smoky note is left in bare spotlight with almost nothing to round its edges, which presents much difficulty for me to appreciate the fragrance in general.

Fortunately, the smoky note finally merges with the lovely lemon note about 1 hour in, and Eau de Citron Noir now maintains this delicious sweet-tart lemon with the acrid woody smoky undertone until it disappears after about 9 hours. The sillage is mostly moderate.

Personally, I enjoy the lemon note very much. Its luscious sweetness balanced by the fermented tartness makes it a rare comforting citrus fragrance for colder months. Sadly, the choice of smoky note is way out of my comfort zone, and its presence actually compromises the beauty of the delectable lemon note instead of creating an unexpected olfactory effect. Therefore, I would recommend it as a warm citrus fragrance, but only to those who are not sensitive to woody amber aromachemicals in general.

Mr. TomFordHermessence

I’ve tried better... It’s spiced dry cedar wood spritz with a cloudy smoked citrus ambroxen which turns into a late vintage of 1980’s Paco Rabanne scent. I think there’s Tide Mountain wash detergent that smells like this...

LostHesperid

Just tried it recently. I was excited there was a new cologne from Hermes and even more excited it was about lemon (finally !).

Short version : poorly crafted, bland and disappointing.

Long version : opens with a cloud of lemon but after maybe 10 minutes, it fades into a fleeting generic unoriginal woodsy blandness a la Bleu de Chanel that was shocking from Hermes. Their trademark good taste and crafty elegance is completely absent from this cologne. I don't mind the poor duration : I mean after all, Orange verte is a short lived affair. But I do mind the poor quality from such a high end designer. Simply put, Citron Noir is just unworthy of Hermes.

Voyager74

Very intriguing.

Hugo Montez

Love this juice! Nagel has been making a excelent job on Hermès. This one has Lemon and Lime with a smoky base and a touch of tea. The longevity is poor to mediocre. But this is a EDC so is supposed to not last long. The projection is soft but this is excelent to spray after a shower at the spring/summer time.

lgsoltek

Opens with a rather nice citrus note. For two minutes. Then drowned in a screechy woody amber note you can find in so many masculine scents these days like Sauvage.

cocolover56

It seems Nagel can do no wrong, successfully creating a cologne that could possibly rival Eau d'Orage. Smoky, dried lime and bergamot. Detectable spices and just feels so edible. A new form of Hermés cologne and soon to be a staple for me

Also, I'd just like to add that it lasts a LONG time. Annoyingly so, really. Its lasted me at least 9 hours. Not sure I want that from an eau de cologne. Have showered, can't get read of the woodsy dry down. How unusual.

Chris89

The citrus note was promising, but after a few minutes it dried down do this watered down Dylan Blue/Sauvage kind of thing. A little dissapointing and a big no for me.

GeorgeY

Citron noir - Hermes

Opens with a zesty juicy lemon note which is promising. Very refreshing and uplifting but disappears quickly. It soon changes to a ripe lemon with a more of the fruity sweetness. That zingy lemon peel nots is still detachable here and there.

But unfortunately the dry down, like many others mentioned, falls down to the Dior Sauvage, blue de Chanel trend. It reminds me more of Bvlgari Aqua Atlantic or Versace Dylan Blue actually with that salty aquatic/mineral ambroxan base.

I don’t get any smokiness out of this cologne at all.

Basically it starts with zesty lemon, turns to a sweeter/fruitier one then drys down to salty ambroxan and all happens pretty quick. Really like the opening but the dry down is just a bit tiresome.

mmcdonald36

Doesn't smell like an Hermes. Smells like a more sour take on something like Dior Homme Cologne. I prefer the Dior because it has more depth. This "unisex" Hermes may be enchanting to women who rarely smell men's fragrances, but to a man, there isn't much to write home about.

Bretto66

Chistine you finally ticked all the boxes....This is a magnificent Perfume 9/10
,,,,,Please Please have an attempt at a full on Mens Fragrance,!!!!

minimalist

Just tested and immediately bought it at Barcelona Airport.
love it, starts very lemony, natural and juicy unlike Dior's fizzy "fanta-ish" citrus top notes.

Very soon after, that black lemon charry and incensey note appears to stay with you. Beautiful and different, one of a kind. Thanks Ms Nagel!

SimplyRavishing1

Sounds Intriguing & One thing that plagues many sharp citrus notes on top & among the masses is their poor longevity. Maybe this offering from Hermes will provide better performance while in the same vein as a Bleu de Chanel EDP, I know Black Tea is my favorite note in Chrome Azzaro Summer 2013 an excellent men's designer Summer Frag this note also happens to be Present in Hermès Eau de Citron Noir, I am Interested in trying this.

jovejove

Some people you can never please, because they always know better than the rest. There’s the expectation of people to produce unicorns. New perfumer, new direction, new era. People need to chill. As much as love getting insight as to how people feel about fragrances, many have just become bitter on this site. Let’s see how long this post lasts. Get off your high Hermès horses.

daithi

At first, you can smell a dry and bitter lemon note, in the vein of “Rhubarbe” cologne, slightly smoky. After a few minutes the scent transforms to... Bleu de Chanel and Sauvage. A sporty, woody, cloying Axe deodorant mixture. Even the blue bottle is a clear reference to these two hits.

Very disappointing for Hermès fans.

antonpan

Not a fan of this fragrance. It smells closer to Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum than to classical colognes.
A promising start - lemon zest, bergamot, musk - transforms into noisy and dirty modern molecules of spicy freshness.

If you are a Dior Sauvage/Bleu de Chanel guy, you'll like it. If you prefer traditions of Hermes, this Citron Noir is probably not for you.

Zetamamman

I hate most citrus frags, but this one is something different! The spicy (even though there are no such notes listed) drydown with some lingering citrus (among the least detergent smelling I've experienced, or, make that "not detergent-y at all"!) is enough to actually make me seriously consider buying a bottle. And it's not "spicy" like most contemporary men's designer offerings, but a clean, deep, natural smell.
(I tested this only on paper about two months ago, paper still smells delicious)

Wlingle92lx

Agree with Eva Wu

Now watch....even this post will get deleted

Eva Wu

I know this review will get deleted (and rightly so cause I'm not really reviewing the perfume) but WTF guys??? Seriously?

Y'all are gonna start hating on a perfume the day it comes out JUST because it's made by a different perfumer in a different style from what you're used to?

This is not cool.

remy.cullen.5

Seems great! Guys, I know you are pissed about changes in fragrance industry, but dont hate on ms. Nigel for no reason. I have always wanted a dark citrus fragrance and cant really see the reason for blind hate towards anything new introduced to the market. Ellena retired. She has huge shoes to fill, why not support her instead of being a dick?
