This stuff smells like tj maxx or marshals. Picture this…. plastic coat hangers, dirty children, denim jeans, old mis matched shoes and cheap air fresheners… I kinda dig it wish it lasted longer

SweetPeaPea

It's unique, I'll give it that, but I just hate coconut..

A mi gusto... horrible, pésimo. Un olor sumamente sintético y pobre, podría usarlo para limpiar ventanas y no habría ninguna diferencia con el limpiador normal. El coco es la última nota que hubiera pensado que tiene, literalmente huele a jabón.

this smells exactly like raffaelo candy. the vibe this gives off is like you spent the whole day at the beach, swimming and eating juicy fruit and then at the end of the day you go home and you smell salty and you’re all sticky from the fruit nectar. the very last bit of perfume smells like your skin but better and i get a lot of musk and bergamot at the very end. in a way it feels like paco rabanne olympea’s cousin; the sweet opening and the salty, citrusy drydown. it’s just sooo intoxicating. my bf wears this all the time and i just can’t help but sniff the hell out of him.

The Wolf

This is atrociously cheap and makes me appreciate the other coconut frags I have in my collection. It if you took a coconut air fresher, rotten fruit, plastic, and liquefied them in a blender, that's what it smells like.

The chemical fig mixed with an ultra cheap cedar smells like the off gassing of plastic.
The coconut smells exactly like car air freshener. It's so synthetic this feels carcinogenic, like it could give me endocrine problems or cancer. I threw it in the trash because I didn't even want to give it away to friends or family. 🗑️

To my friend this is a " funny " scent, to me this's horrible. Coconut in this's synthetic & too sweet, and go with the fig's just awful, causes me headache. Maybe it's just not for me. Failed blind-buy, must sample before buying.

This perfume is quite a hard one to review, because I still can't really decide whether I love it, or it's just a passing fancy. However, let's make it clear here; this perfume is pretty unique in terms of the scent profile, and I really enjoy the overall perfume trails. However, just that there's something that bothering me and it's keep clinging on me not to fall head over hills...

To me, this is very 'beachy' fragrance. It's not a freshie-kind or aquatic scent at all, despite the liquid colour of the perfume is blue. I recently started to have a huge crush on milky/lactonic note, so I was getting this one as part of a blind-purchase, because my brother was looking for a everyday gym scent that can be considered 'Unique'. I knew that coconut does have a milky scent profile and some types of fig do have a lactonic quality, so I thought this could be a good purchase. Last but not least, the price was unbeatable at 18$ at online store.

Even though I gave this as a present to my brother, I found that he's not really touching much on this perfume and in the end, he just went back to his other perfume collections that are more clean and soapy (his current everyday gym scent is Ferrari's Bright Neroli). Hence, this fragrance was stored lonely in my brother's perfume wardrobe, meaning to say, I got a chance to test out few times on me while he's away.

So, let's talk about the juice now. I definitely can sense that this is pretty unique release because most of the guess perfumes that I tried in the past, was not really impressive to me. However, this one did in terms of its uniqueness. It's definitely milky and lactonic, but surprisingly, I don't find it sweet. There's something that lingers along with coconut and fig and it's very green and herbal. I can't really detect what it is, but I believe it could be a lavender or sage. Generally, the opening is pleasant.

The main problem that I face is the middle note. As time passes by, I can sense more coconut is coming off from my skin, but the smell of the coconut is not something I was expecting. I was expecting the coconut to be more sweet or sugary/syrupy, but in 1981 Indigo, the coconut here leaning towards more of natural, or unprocessed type. I'm from south-east asian region and coconut is very common fruit to see and smell when you go to the local night market. Surprisingly, 1981 Indigo's coconut is very familiar to me, because it really smells natural coconut that's sold in the hawker store. Meanwhile, the fig is slightly sweeter side, but it doesn't really meet my expectation because the level of sweetness is also not that high. I personally think that milky/lactonic notes do shine when they meet tart/sweet aroma, but in 1981 Indigo, the milky note meets something green and fresh, which making me scratching my head, because I think it's really going out balance from this stage.

And... the base note. I'm really sorry to say this, but this perfume made me realizing that my skin really does have a bad-blood with cedar. The cedar in this perfume is pretty intense and almost having that herbal quality to it. When this cedar getting mixed with coconut or fig, it creates a very distinctive 'pulpy' scent (I really can relate myself to kesteny, because his/her experience is very similar to mine) that is not really pleasant for me, but this can be different on another individual obviously.

Overall, this one is definitely a unique one to go for, if you are seeking something out of ordinary summer fragrance. I do enjoy the top note, but starting from the middle to the base note, I think there's something not really balanced and it starts to go wild. I freaked out when I tested for the first time (cedar was too intense that I had a headache after all), but after few more tries and wearings, now I'm starting to appreciate a little more than before. It's definitely growing more on me, but I just can't say I love it, because it still smells very unbalanced and each scent doesn't get mixed well enough for me to appreciate. I wish it was more of a warm milky/lactonic perfume, but this one is more of herbal/green milky kind which can be not a crowd pleaser in general.

However, I will try to keep test it on my skin for few more weeks to see before I finalize my comments.

kesteny

I find this intoxicating, but I didn't fall in love with it immediately.

I've had this for about a year and while I would spray it once in a while, it never really felt like me until I put it on my skin on a hot summer's day.

I think the reason why this perfume is hard to like is the opening - there is a bit of a 'dusty' quality to it and I can see why people quote 'wet concrete' or 'wet soil'. While there is an appeal to those smells to some, it's not something most people want to walk around smelling like (including me). The mistake I made was to spray this on clothes which made the opening last and last...But when I sprayed this on my skin and let it sit for 10 minutes, the dry down really started to shine. I could smell something herbaceous and very pleasant and fresh mixed with ripe fig (but not sweet!), perfectly supported by a pulpy coconut. On me however, the coconut is barely detectible, while the fig is very dominant along with the green notes. What radiates from the skin is a smooth herby fig and it has an intoxicating quality that makes me sniff myself again and again.

This is marketed to men but I don't detect anything distinctly masculine that would make this hard to wear for a woman. If anything, I think perfumes that are marketed to the opposite gender usually reveal a slightly different faucets when interacting with a woman's or a man's skin chemistry.

Not a safe blind for everyone, but if you like fig and don't mind a bit of greeness, I'd say that chances are you would enjoy it, but do yourself a service and test this on your skin!

This is a dreamy coconut. I know the fig is there as a background but the savory elements of coconut are what’s prominent here. It’s not cloying, overly sweet or synthetic. It smells niche to my nose, and like nothing else in my collection.

I found a 30 ml bottle at my local burlington for 8 bucks. It was a blind buy and trust me when I say never do what I did. The first time I smelt it, I couldn’t believe how bad it smelt, but the dry down on the other hand was heavenly. It smells like figs and creamy coconut. That’s about it. The fig note is really bitter and hard to like but once you wait about 15 minutes, you’ll be glad you got the fragrance. The coconut drydown lasts a long time over 6 hrs. This is a really nice one to wear during summer when you’re at the beach, just be aware of the really harsh fig opening

defectedmonkey

I bought a 30ml for $5 at a rack store. Looking at the note break down it made me think this would be a good clean freshie. However it is cheap for a reason. It's aimed for summer/spring wear, the problem is that it is too synthetic for warm days. I wanted to rub it off as soon as I sprayed it. Hey-ho, you win some you lose some.

The AntiChrist

I'm blown away by the Guess 1981 line so far. I bought Los Angeles first and loved it, but this one is breath-taking

In two ways. By it's uniqueness. Nothing in my collection smells like this. This is a gem. One of a kind. Also by how well blended it is. I mean that as in the androgyny. A guy or a girl can rock this but I do think this requires a certain persona to pull off.

It doesn't smell anything like Versace Blue Jeans but it's kind of in the same lane to me because it's so fresh and... Pure lol

The coconut shines beautifully in this fragrance. I can see this being worn by someone in casual attire, light colors in the summer. It really smells good.

I get a visual of an astrological event. Moon and Venus intertwined in an early fall morning. Everything is right, harmonious, sea salt baths, teenage hearts... Not that this can't be worn by an older gentleman, but because it's so light hearted, passionate, charmingly naive, and gentle.

I love love love this. Will be buying a few more bottles just in case they want to discontinue this beautiful jewel in the future. I'm enamored by it

But... I can see how alot of collectors and enthusiasts might not like this release. This fragrance is not for everyone. If you're drawn to this, and want to wear it, you may be just a little eccentric lol a bit of a floating gender, open minded or artistic. Regardless I think every collectir should own this for the sheer novelty

JonnyBadass

A nice clean casual freshie with a touch of sweetness. The coconut note isn’t really identifiable, just adds a slight beachy sweetness and you end up with scent reminiscent of a nice shampoo or hair product. It’s a pleasant scent that I find a little uplifting and great for casual daytime wear when you’re not really trying to impress but still want to smell good. The longevity is terrible, only lasting around 2-3 hours, but you get what you pay for. I paid around $17 on Amazon.

herecomestheg

Very pleasant smelling cheap frag. Not the best longevity, silage is close range (I prefer this for short-lived perfumes since reapplying doesnt come with drowning it out for 30m), its solid, soft and welcoming. I believe it leans more on the work/everyday side rather than dates. Very nice bottle, mature but not serious. 1891 Indigo seems mostly unisex with a male bias to me, it’s just weird having coconut in a scent and it not being from shampoo or lotion. You will probably attract people with this nice fresh coconut, fig, and amber cheapie. Not groundbreaking but eh. It’s okay!

ashantismells

Considering this is aimed at men, this is a pretty unisex fragrance - mostly due to the coconut I guess. If that's your thing then maybe this is worth a blind buy, but I understand some people will not be a huge fan of this. With all that said I think its a solid frag but its still a little too cold out for me to be wearing this. Will 100% revisit this in a few months when its warmer.

jleezlg

i really want to like this, the coconut and fig opening is really nice but there is a note in here that is incredibly off putting to me and i’m not sure what it is. it’s cloying and changes the coconut note to feel almost sickly and vaguely rotten? also reminds me of cheap mens cologne. will keep testing. it’s not a philosykos dupe sorry to say, no greenness to my nose at all.

update: after a day testing this i can safely say it’s not for me. i think it may be the sage or lavender that’s giving me something really off putting.

inFidel

Top note coconut and fig in the heart? I'd say just the opposite. As soon as you spray it, the coconut comes out first and for a minute or two doesn't even let anything else come through. Then, when the coconut calms down, the fig comes forward and takes the scene.

It's definitely a different scent. It isn't overly complicated or overly strong (not great performance) but for a summer no-brainer frag for $20 for 100ml it's an alternative worth picking up. In a vast sea of summer citruses, this is a different vibe that not many have smelled and most likely nobody around you is wearing.

NutnMakeScents

Ok, so I usually wait til I have worn a fragrance long enough to get to know it before I review it or make a comment but this has been one scent experience I feel needs to be let out. I bought approx. 4 months ago just as it was starting to turn chilly in the midwest. My first spray was so off putting I nearly took it back. The fig had just the right profile to mix unpleasantly with the perfumers alcohol that it smelled rancid. I figured that i needed to better prime the sprayer so I sprayed several times out the window of my car. I used my forearm and still the same result, bitter pungent and some what foul. Later on the smell has dissipated enough that the actual scent began to come through. I really liked it but is the opening too much to bear?

Cut to a couple weeks ago, I retested and to my surprise the opening has mellowed so much that the entire journey is now pleasant and wonderful. So, what accounts for this? Maceration? Oxidation? Olfactory regeneration? Relative weather? I'm starting to find all of these hold true to a degree for all fragrances, with some more than others. Brand new, newly produced bottles seem to give me the most off-putting version of a frag where others that have been sitting or have been primed enough to sufficiently oxidize seem to do much better. On the whole this tends to happen more often with cheaper fragrances (sub 60 USD) which is likely due to the pace with which these are pumped out and steps higher end brands take for granted are skipped at the cost of initial.quality. Rather than this being a gripe it is rather a PSA to give "terrible" frags and our olfactory senses time to develop to eqitable maturity. But this may not redeem all fragrances in which case its probably the scent and not some other variable.

hijoebye

I have the original 1981 and don't care for it, but this one threw me for a loop!
I was curious to try this based off the notes and comparison to Philosykos with the fig/coconut combo. But this is not a dupe of Philosykos by any means. This one is less green and the coconut in Indigo is amped way up making it sweet and pleasant. Will test better for performance in several months because this undoubtedly is suited for warmer temperatures.

EDIT - After trying this for a few days, I get the same "metallic" quality from the original 1981 For, although the coconut is quite strong, making it not as bad for me.

EDIT 2 - Now it's summer, the heat is in full force and this lasts impressively long. I prefer the drydown because the metallic quality fades away, and I find the lavender in the opening to be too biting. When it settles, it's more pleasant, sweet coconut with vanilla nuances. Now on 8 hours of wear and still smelling it on myself, very nice!

Chaselark

In reading through the comments, the person saying, "metallic pinacolada" resonates with me as this was somewhat reminiscent of Azzaro Chrome United in a metallic sense. But you can detect the pinacolada in the dry down as a skin scent. But the most true characterization imo was "Green fig leaves, pure BITTERNESS that contrasts with the sweetness of the coconut". The opening is a total fig bomb, and not entirely appealing or a crowd pleaser. This gets much much more satisfying in the dry down as a skin scent. It's not overly sweet, and would not be considered sweet compared to what middle eastern frags call sweet (not syrupppy). This fragrance stands alone and because it's so different and off the radar coupled with not screaming "cheap", its interesting. This is not for someone seeking to leave a scent trail, it's a proximity scent and only people in your immediate space will pick up on the nuances of this fragrance. I can see this being discontinued due to low volume of sales and in a couple years selling on Ebay for 2x and 3x what it cost today to the small pool of fans of it. I will never wear this in public or even around my wife and family because it's "peculiar" and I have plenty of personal and crowd pleasers. I wear this in my alone time working from home as I try to understand and appreciate why someone even made this peculiar fragrance. It's kind of like a personal challenge for me to figure this out, why it was even made. To be clear, this is not peculiar in an encre noire lalique kind of way...no....though that's not my thing, I understand and get why people enjoy encre noire.....but....Guess Indigo.....this is total WTF?

Martina Ivanovska

I wonder if this is really similar to Philosykos?????

Yep!! I just got it and it is very similar to Philosykos, I love it ❤️

Mr. Blind Buy

I got this cause I seen on YouTube that this is a unique fragrance and YES it is and that's the far as that goes. I first tested it on paper and it was horrible. Smelled straight synthetic with the earthy fig smell. Turned me off for about a month then I thought I haven't tried it on my skin. Did that and the synthetic smell went away moments after spraying. The fig can be pulled off but only in a certain occasion. I'm a traveler and I'd only wear this when I'm deep in nature, that's it lol. At a preserve, national park, mountains, an island or beach. Settings like that I feel this scent will flourish. In the city just walking about, no. You will 100% smell different than everybody else no matter how cheap this is guaranteed

Hectuhhhhh

Main notes are a fleshy coconut and sage for me. $7 for 30 ml at burlington I can’t complain

Bigsly

The woody and sea type of notes are obvious fairly quickly, along with the powdery, typical designer-level iris. It's definitely not especially sweet and is similar to Hollister's Free Wave (there are a couple of different notes, such as FW's algae, but the main notes are the same). And this is quite strong, especially the longevity. For me, it doesn't have the depth, and so comes across as a bit synthetic and simplistic, but I can imagine it being a crowd pleaser, at least with some demographics. I was hoping for more coconut and/or amber, and if that's what you seek as well, you might do better with True Gent Blue by Avon. With both amber and tonka listed, I expected at least a bit of soft sweetness after a couple hours.

Origen1

First I bought the original and the next day I came with the resonated 1981.

I liked the first one so much, I had to go for the Indigo 1981 hype.

GUESS INDIGO 1891

Bought with the expectation of "smelling different", I must say, it delivered.

Green fig leaves, pure BITTERNESS that contrasts with the sweetness of the coconut.

It is a "manly" coconut if you will. Sweet, yes, but not as vanilla-y as in other fragrances.

It's not a complex scent.

The bitterness of the fig leaves dissipates to make room for that delicious beach coconut, a bit more refined than in creams and sunscreens.

Both scents come out together in the opening, but the sweet one prevails.

I still consider it blue, because when you smell it you think of the beach. It doesn't take you to the figs, but to the club, the pool or the sand.

I can see anyone in a polo shirt and white shorts wearing this.

Overall, well achieved, I feel it could have been more refined that fig smell, which at times reaches the edge of synthetic, maybe plastic, Maybe makeup.

I feel it lacked a third dominant note, something smoky, maybe roasted coffee, maybe a mineral touch.

Unfortunately, the short time I wore it I felt it projected little and after two hours there was no scent at all. Nothing.

I will continue to use it as an exploration, hopefully it's just my perception, as the original 1981 lasts me ages.

Stanky_James

My lovey bride bought a bottle of this for me. While I don’t wear it a lot, when I do wear it I wear a lot. I just can’t stop spraying. It must mix well with my soggy onion body odor. Idk.

This cologne doesn’t last super long, which on me is weird. I’m one of the oddballs and colognes usually last over 8-10 for me. This one we’re talking like 3-5ish.

It’s a good go to if you have an extensive collection and can’t make up your mind.

careycrews

Absolutely Awful!!!!! Smells like Concrete and Dirt. Dry and brutally bad!!!!!

OnielG

At first I sprayed this fragrance and hated it with a passion but then about 20 minutes after when it dried down I was extremely please with how I was smelling. I would rate the opening a 3.5/10
And dry down a 7.5/10
Longevity about 4-6 hours
Projection is about a 5/10 for about 1.5 - 2 hours
The price was $13.99 ( Really happy with my purchase)

I'm pretty sure I can get better performance if I apply on top of lotion.

Overall I would give this fragrance a 7/10
*I just have to get through the opening notes🤢

Klimbisupp

The notes sounds good, but sadly this blue juice is not for me at all.
Sticky metallic pinacolada syrup. I feel like seasick after two sprays.

Fingli

As a person who lives in a country where the fig trees are common thing, I can say with all my due respect to previous reviewers that there is no coconut note in this fragrance 😎 It is how the fresh green fig's leaves smell. In the frag this note is refined and combined with the rape figs note in a way that make impression of very natural (3D, I may say) feeling of fig's tree. I was pleasantly surprised when I tested it and bought a bottle with no regrets.

The frag itself has some sunny vibe and is very suitable for summer days (even in hot summer days). It is not sweet aroma, although there is a rape figs note but the green leaves note is more dominant. The frag gives feeling of freshness rather than a gourmand.
From the other hand "Indigo" is a linear frag -- the fig is all around you until the smell fades from your skin. In warm summer day longevity on me is about 4 hours with a moderate sillage.
IMHO it feels like unisex but tends a bit more to masculine.
Recommendation for buying: YES! ✌

Azure Eye

This frag smells more expensive than it is, and performance is moderate to good. On my skin, the profile stayed quite green for a long time (1-3 hours) with a lot of fougère traits. The leafy smell was quite lifelike as well, this scent is not very synthetic, despite being fresh (and inexpensive). The coconut was also prominent, but it smelled more of the shell and hair of the coconut, as opposed to the meat and milk inside. Perhaps it was just the mixing of notes that made the coconut woody and fibrous. The important takeaway is that the coconut here is not sweet or mixed with vanilla to make a sunscreen lotion, or gourmand profile.

Throughout the life of this frag, it remains fairly linear on me. The green leafy note dies down, but that takes hours. For the price you pay, this frag is a steal.

Uppanatum

Wow is this juice amazing. A tropical, green, natural smelling wonder of a perfume. And with the price I can just bathe in this stuff. Phenomenal. Don’t pass on this.

StanDalone518

Imagine if they made a fresher spring/summer version of Nishane-Fan your flames

The coconut is more of a savory toasted coconut
it’s not a candy/suntan lotion coconut

I got it for $12.99 it’s worth every penny
I love it

valthunder

I got this because let's be honest, it was cheap, and the notes of it got my attention.

don't let the colour of the juice mislead you, this is by no mean a fresh perfume.
i sprayed it 10 minutes ago in my arm, so first impressions.
Opening: after sprayed, it was a coconut punch to the face, it lasted (I'm not lying here) 30 seconds. After that it's an earthy, dirty fig that I'm smelling, the coconut is barely noticeable and there is a touch of sweetness on the back that it's really well balanced.
i will update once it develops to the heart and dry drown. but for now, I'm really happy with the acquisition.

Update 1: After 45 minutes the earthy, dirty smell receded a lot, and it was overpowered by the sweetness. after 2 hours, it's more of a sweet than anything else fragrance. But the sweetness is not overpowering, it's well balanced. it's still projecting, as i get reminded that I have it on me every now and then. I should say that the smell is kind of addictive.
I don't think this will last more than 4 hours on my skin.

Update 2: it lasted around 5 hours, after that couldn't smell it anymore

For 18 usd that i paid for it on frangrancex, this is an amazing acquisition.

xoxoMyke

This has been the fruity fig masculine fragrance I've been searching for since 2017.

The blue color is extremely misleading.

Indigo opens with abrasive green fig leaf with the fig fruit representing a faint coconut flesh accord. The cedar and musk are most noticeable after the fig note. Fig is unique in that its leaf smells extremely green - almost harsh. And the fig fruit flesh smells like coconut. This fragrance is entirely linear. What you get in the beginning has very little transition with the fig slightly bowing out to the cedar and musk.

I don't get the coconut sun-tan vibe that are echoed through the reviews. I think it's cuz fig leaf and fresh fig fruit in their natural forms aren't common enough in the USA. The harshness of the green fig leaf is probably what recalls the chemical nature "suntan lotion" with the fig fruit hitting the "coconut" portion of suntan lotion.

Five years ago in 2017, this was the fragrance I was looking for - a green tinged fig fruit dominated fragrance with a masculine slant. I was on a fig addiction as I had discovered Womanity 2 years prior and that was the fragrance that changed this fragrance game for me. Unfortunately, I wasn't successful (blind buying Avon Aromadisiac, Demeter Fig, CK One Gold, even as recent as FCUK Friction Night Her... then sampling Philosykos, Sea Salt & Fig Old Navy, etc,), I moved on.

Coincidentally, Guess Indigo was released in 2017. I'm not sure why it never hit my radar considering Guess fragrances end up at my favorite bargain stores like Gordman's, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross, etc. I'm glad to own it... I have a sneaking suspicion I will go through the entire 100ml bottle of this summer. I bought a gift set... I wear the deo spray to the gym... and the real thing elsewhere.

johnnyz

At first impression I wasn't sure I liked this much, although I did warm up to it eventually.... The coconut is certainly prominent. The overall scent kinda reminds me of suntan lotion. Having said that, I can see myself wearing this at the beach or poolside, but that's about it.

nabs1212

This is ok perfume. I can see why some people might actually hate it but you have to give time. The fig note is there for the 1st 5-10 mins strong. Then it slowly goes to the heart of the scent which is the coconut. Mixed with the other mid notes it becomes a musky fresh coconut scent. Which smells very nice and unique. It smells sweet but not syrup/sugar/candy sweet, more of a musky/fresh sweet . This can be easily unisex , the longevity is around 4 hours which isn’t bad. One perfume it does remind me of is Hermes sur le Mediterranean, but a lot more coconut. Overall if you’re looking for a change of the usual summer time freshy this can be for you.

My girlfriend really enjoys this one. She says she wanna eat me when she smells it.

Never been so repulsed by a fragrance before - the notes sound great, but this smells like I straight up sprayed Windex on my skin

chakukan

Blind buy and super price , such a lovely scent, perfect for everyday :)

Flexfragrance

As mentioned, the scent is really wierd, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. I like the smell, the coconut is different than i expected but you won't have anything like this. It gets you attention and makes you stick out from the crowd and for that i admire this one for it. Fresh, interesting and not to sweet. It gives you compliments cuz no one really have come acrossed the DNA. Tumbs up.

My situation was similar to Senor.Blanco: While travelling I almost bought this from TK Maxx in Germany, however, due to low score here on Fragrantica, I left it on the shelf. And good thing I did; I would have never thought how bad this actually is. I had high hopes, since I normally enjoy coconut and some other Guess fragrances a lot, but this was very stuffy. If you have ever smelled wet concrete, this is pretty much it. Propably the worst-smelling fragrance I have tried so far. Also, it could be quite difficult to find a situation where this would fit well.

Wow...This is NOT what I was expecting!
This is definitely a coconut frag...but it's like...gothic coconut.
I mean, my "Authenticity - Silver Luxe" is like "Spongebob amped up on Krabby Patties" kinda coconut...super sweet, powerful, knock-your-socks-off level coconut.
This "Guess - 1981 Indigo" is like "Daria Morgendorfer" staring you down and you dont know whether to approach and ask for her number or turn and run for your life"...sexy, dark, slightly homocidal, gothic and mysterious level coconut.

I like it...but I may have to brighten it up a bit by wearing both at the same time...they will balance each other out...lol.

I'll report back with projection/longevity stats after I wear it fully for the first time tomorrow.
=]

06OCT21
Welp...that didn't work.
This fragrance definitely has to be worn ALONE!
I layered it on my body with my "Silver Luxe" coconut frag (one shot chest and back) and also sprayed my shirt with the 1981 and I basically couldn't smell it over the 2 sprays of "Silver Luxe" by the time I left the house.
I can't really count this since I never actually smelled the 1981 for more than 15 minutes.
*shrug*
Will try again...after the next 3-4 frags I just received.

24OCT21
UPDATE: Nah...this isn't it...this ain't gonna work.
I have real coconut frags and this isn't it. This is a Fig frag...lol.
Putting this one in the donation bin.

Senor.Blanco

I wanted to like this, the notes sounded good, especially the coconut. I almost bought it from a discounter for $20, I ended up getting to test it later - I am glad I didn't spend that $20. It is unpleasant. Has a plastic smell and the coconut is barely detectable.

buggaluggachug

reminds me of malibu alcohol, which i hate. so i cannot wear it unfortunately.

terribleterrier

If you're looking for a unique summer scent, this is a VERY good deal when you can find it at discounters. The main top note as many have said is Coconut and it can be quite strong, almost cloying in the first few minutes. This was a blind buy and my initial impression was this was going to end up in the reject drawer for re-gifting. But after about 30 minutes, it dries down into a wonderfully tropical and intoxicating scent that surprisingly complex and long lasting. The coconut stays with it through the Middle, but tones down fairly quickly as it dries and becomes creamy and melds well with the cedar and spices in the base. Reminds me of an evening burning driftwood on the beach after a hot day. Definitely a Hidden Gem

anthonycball

Coconut. It’s not a sunscreen or a pina colada coconut. There’s something more unique, almost funky about this coconut. Is it the nectar? Maybe it’s the fig?

Truthfully, Indigo actually has me somewhat stumped. I’ve had a 30ml bottle for over a month, and I’m still not quite sure exactly what I’m smelling.

Pros: Very different, almost challenging if that’s your thing. Something you rarely find with these affordable designer fragrances. It evolves a lot as you wear it and dries down nicely. It’s also very affordable.

Cons: I wouldn’t call Indigo a smooth, well blended fragrance. There’s also one facet in the opening that does smell a little off. Funky or pungent as I mentioned; which does eventually fade.

Ultimately, Guess 1981 Indigo is an affordable, unique wearing that differs some from the standard fresh, blue, or aquatic designer offerings most of us have. If this is your thing, it wouldn’t hurt picking up a bottle for about $12-$15 to try.

Rafrosa

If you are wondering what this smells like, it is simply coconut and cedar. As a matter of fact, that would be its name if it were a Jo Malone fragrance. I wish the tonka bean and musk would be more prominent to smooth out the sharpness of the cedar wood and greeness of the fig. The cedar really dries out the sweetness of the coconut and fig notes, so much so that it can smell as if Vetiver was included somewhere in the base. That being said it is a good/unique fragrance that is not without its charms. The cedar/Vetiver notes fade a bit in the dry down leaving a creamier coconut than what is present in the opening. Performance is good- it doesn’t project far, however you will have an arms length sillage for around 3 hours. I continue to catch wafts of the scent coming off me for 3-5 hours. Longevity is 6-8 hours. Not a bad grab if you are looking to introduce a coconut frag to your collection.
Scent: 7.5/10
Performance: 8/10

sapeur1999

A powdery, sort of metallic coconut main spring-summertime frag. The fig is also evident, but the coconut steals the show. Be aware that this is not a suncreen or sweet coconut scent. I paid 27 € for the gift set with shower gel and deo spray. I already had Eternity Now, which I deem warmer and sweeter, maybe also more nocturnal and a better representation of the coconut nectar, while Indigo could be the bark. It has also similarities with JPG Le Beau but this is more unique and thus less mass pleasing. Indigo is very fresh and sharp and just right for a beach day. It is long lasting (6-8hs) and has decent projection. Even the deo-spray projects! This could be what a surfer would wear on a warm summer night out. Like some said there's something acrimonious in the juxtaposition of lactonic, powdery and citric notes that won't work for those expecting tropical balmy calm, this is tangy, sharp and loud, 3-4 sprays all you need. I am quite surprised by this as all the other Guess I've had had poor performance but this rocks your socks.

Danielblig

Want to add to my review. I will give the scent a 9/10. This is fast becoming one of my favorites - top 10 (I have more than 100) Wonderfuldry coconut that does not become gourmand but stays slightly sweet and creamy. Not a suntan oil coconut either as many reviewers have pointed out. The concrete smell reviewers refer to in my opinion smells more like the dusty smell when rain falls on a dirt road- for those of us who grew up in arid areas that is a wonderful smell. For the price a steal- I may get a backup bottle because I would never want to be without it in my collection!

Danielblig

Love it. It does remind me a lot of Unforgivable Black Sean John. I have worn the two on different hands to compare and they are very similar

Napasonoma

I bind bought this at Burlington, I was afraid it was going to smell light suntan lotion. Well I’m grateful that it doesn’t. This for me has a very interesting scent path. It is constantly changing in the fist hour, at least on me. The coconut is there but not to dominate. This is more of a mature scent and that is due to the fig, iris, and lavender. This one never gets real sweet which makes it probably a more evening scent. But with that said I think you could wear this to a more crowded area, (if they still exist) like the office, church or just out and about. This is unique and I would say anyone under 30 should test it before buying it.

The Clogged Nose

After really liking 1981 Los Angeles, why not give this one a go?

They are both fairly priced after all and Indigo has very different notes.

That is the nice part about 1981 Indigo. It really is different. I could not stop smelling myself and collectors who like to sample different types of scents will want to put their nose on this at least once.

The milky sweet coconut is nice and swaps dominance with a peculiar kind of fougere. I do not like green scents but I make an exception for this one. The opening is very green by the way.

Unfortunately it is quite weak and already dimishes greatly on my skin after some three hours. That takes my rating down from Like to OK.

Go for 1981 Los Angeles, it is much better.

DiegoWalberg

Lovely, lovely, lovely!
Unfortunately the longevity, projection and sillage are very sad. Haih. How i wish they make it Parfum or Extrait version.

House Adams

You have to give this a couple wearings to really figure it out... The opening can be a bit off putting for some. It is somewhat of a mismatch of notes... The sweet fig and coconut, mixing with a dry herbaceous sage and oakmoss... And the iris providing some light florals that just don't seem to work well... But, after a couple wearings and really giving it time to dry down each time I wore it. It was a grower on me for sure.

The sweet fig and coconut begin to round out with the woody notes and the musk and amber round the entire scent out a little... The somewhat strange dry sweet herbaceous-ness, becomes a more pleasantly sweet woody composition but still has hints of the fig and coconut. Its not just a generic sweetness.

Now... This is nothing great - But it is a bit different, while being wearable. A designer Spring / Summer scent with some uniqueness... Really what many folks ask for. But... I can also see with a Guess scent, people excepting a super easy mass appealing "blue" type scent and when smelling this for the first time, it can throw you for a loop.

If you like Fig, coconut, sweet woody and slightly herbaceous accords... Give it a shot. Rack stores have 30ml bottles for around $10 - $12... For that price, its easy to give it away or turn it into a bathroom spray if you don't like it. No disrespect, but that's usually what happens to cheapies I don't like..

I love this perfume.
Its cool, watery, driftwood with coconut.

The coconut does not smell like coconut to me, it really smells like a cool rainy beach.

Its potent and projects.
Its a banger for me and I will always love it.

Maybe my nose if different than most people.

Wufam007

I've worn Indigo a few times now in the high AZ heat and even though it is overly synthetic I enjoy it enough to go back to it once or twice a month. Really it is all about sweet synthetic coconut here and not much else. Don't over spray or it can be an assault on the senses.

I wouldn't recommend to anyone who keeps a small collection but if you like to switch it up alot it could be a good addition for the price.

reechlee

At the mall, in one of the main floor areas, there is a display of a deserted sandy island with tall coconut trees that have clusters of both coconuts and figs. The display surrounded by those titan tron metal truss scaffolding, with very bright, hot display lights shining on it.

Has an abrasive quality like denim that of the blue color might depict. The fig is dry and a bit dirty; maybe think more of the leaf. The coconut is also a bit dry. It doesn't smell like sunscreen perse, but very unfortunately, anything coconut will lead you to think sunscreen/lotion/feminine. So on first impression, meaning on the impression of most other people around you, it will come of as that tacky, lotion, coconut vibe.

Stevie_D

I haven't owned it long so maybe I should give it more time. But I've a feeling its going to end up being relatively unused in my collection. I just don't love the smell of it and looked forward to a day wraring a better scent to be honest. At best I got warming coconut dry down. But the opening wasn't pleasant to me.

Br0wnsfn34

This juice is really nice and for under 25 dollars this is a must have in any collection.. Fig is one of my favorite notes.. To me this starts with a green fig with unsweetened coconut.. I also love coconut but sometimes it can get too sweet and cloying.. the coconut here is well balanced and very nice.. Logevity and projection aren’t all that great but for 20 bucks you can spray as much as you want.. I don’t see this as a men only fragrance I think women can wear this too.. my wife likes it doesn’t love it.. I’m glad I have this in my collection..

I really don’t get the reviews on here

(Maybe it’s my skin)
The opening is harsh and super synthetic
5 minutes after you do get the fig and some greens
But it’s already a skin scent

15minutes later
It’s totally a skin scent
You do get some coconut but it’s more of a natural coconut

The scent is just okay, could have been better if it was less synthetic

So on my skin
Scent 5/19
Projection 2/10
Longevity: don’t care st this point

Good thing was that I paid 20$ for
Going to resell it or use it as an air freshener

Cologneguy20

A coconut tropical vacation type cologne/fragrance. I get a complete coconut /Iris feel for a scent which I love5☆. Value for me was under $20 on discount websites 5☆. Longevity is 7 hours which is a push. I wear this particular fragrance during daytime during the spring, summer season. Overall it's a 5☆. I would definitely buy this fragrance/Cologne again.

Smile scent

Great scent! Simple, versatile, natural. Smells like green fig leaves. What a surprise to find such a lovely fragrance for a such good price. Perfect for a summer evening (after a swim in the Mediterranean? )

Longevity is excellent

MrHonest

To put it simply, on my skin it smells like a lower quality Artisan Pure from JV mixed with an underlying coconut note. A little strange how nobody has picked up on the similarity...

The coconut isn't beastly like I was expecting, but it's noticeable and blends well with that brash green soapiness throughout the mid. The drydown doesn't lose the coconut, but simply becomes more like a soapy tanning lotion.

I can totally understand the recoil from the green chemical harshness in the opening, but after wearing it a couple of times, it's not actually that bad. Could've easily been released as a believable Artisan Pure flanker minus the orange. Maybe Artisan Tropical Summer or something.

moawiya.alanazi

Smells like a coconut scented sunscreen lotion. But it opens like a bunch of rancid fruit that has rotted and stayed a week on a countertop, disgusting opening.

Pretty linear and surprisingly it stayed on my skin for 12hrs just one spray on the arm out of a tester bottle.

Deri Guzman

This smells like cement. A horrible fragrance.

lmwimsatt

This is unisex just like philosykos with its fig and coconut combo

heavenisalie91

I really like it! The coconut note is very prominent in this one. Overall this is a fresh, and a little bit sweet fragrance with exotic vibe. Longevity and projection are above average, and the price is great. Idk if its worth blind buy, but if u want to smell different try it!

rp64

synthetic, and not pleasant at all

BigThirteen

It’s crazy to read some of the reviews on this one.
Easily one of the best “cheapie” juices I have ever purchased.
You get a huge blast of coconut, fig, and iris...but mostly coconut.
I get almost beast mode longevity on my skin and good projection.
Yes it’s slightly “synthetic” if you smell it up close, but everyone around you will appreciate it and what can you really expect from a $20 fragrance.
In my opinion, absolute steal for the price. Will be rockin it heavy in the summer!

mjhazard23

Coconut is polarizing. Half the population can't stand it. This is an Almond Joy in a bottle. It’s beautiful. Because it’s so unique it took several wears to understand. Average performance. I’ve never received a compliment wearing it but still a 10/10.

FragNoob88

Definitely not a perfume you want to smell up close imo. Gives a wet dog/wet wood vibe for me. From a slight distance the coconut is very dominant. I think it's a terrible fragrance.

Smellwise

My update on this fragrance. I wore it much more since i bought it.. on itself its ok.. but i tried layer it with zegna milan and they compliment each other very2 well.. the scratchy sharp cedar in the opening is toned down when i layer these franrances.. i guess the fig note in zegna milan makes it a much better fragrance.. so my opinion on guess indigo has not change.. its an ok fragrance.. but a good layering combo makes a new perfume that to me is better than both frangrance on their own.. so i would really recommend anyone interested to layer zegna milan and guess indigo man and see if you like it.. to me its a perfect combo.. and performace also very2 good with this layering combo..

hdwilson80

This is nice... I get the coconut, lavender, and woods for sure and maybe even a little amber. The fig is there but not nearly on the level of Zegna Milan.

This isn’t a fragrance that you burry your nose is!! Give it a few sprays and wait for the magic to happen. The aroma is somewhat addicting.

HidingSun

I have given it 2 full wearings. I smell coconut on the initial spray. It projects close to 3 hours, during this time coconut still dominates as the main note and is quite strong. Both iris and fig notes are faint and blended in with the coconut note.

It definitely needs sometime to get used too. If anyone had traveled to Srilanka or Southern India, this is a familiar smell as both men and women use coconut oil on their head to keep hair healthy. This is way too similar to coconut hair oil till it becomes a skin scent.

As skin scent though it lasts 4 hours and is quite enjoyable with the mix of coconut, woods and slightly sweet amber.

Smellwise

I get a strong sharp woody notes at the initial spray with background of coconut smell and other notes not so prominent.. cant say i smell the fig.. i like fig notes in zegna new york, but in this fragrance i cant smell that note.. 1st impression is ok.. not too bad but not impressive also.. will wear it more thus week and update here.. for the price its well worth it..

aet

The combination of notes makes for an interesting blend. the coconut and iris form an almost modeling clay undercurrent that is not unpleasant but does take a little getting used to. An all-around nice scent with good sillage and longevity.

Jeremy fragrance.

very good cologne, smells like coconut + iris with masculine edge. Performace 8 hours

kikoman3

It is really bad. Not even worth 10$/50ml. Maybe if you are under the age of 15. It smells like cheap coconut sun cream.

ernie824

Cedar, Fig & Coconut an odd mixture

SOTD: Guess 1981 Indigo for Men: As of 01/20/19

It was blind buy via Fragrancenet.com, It was recommended by Chad from A Gentleman's Journey YouTube channel, he mentioned that it was he's best blind buy bought for 2018, and I would agree. To my nose is a fresh and woody scent, I detect the fig, coconut, iris, lavender and musk. The fig, coconut and cedar is front and center, it can be sharp in the opening, but it tones down on the dry down. A solid release from Guess. Is a must have and a hidden gem

My SOTD (Scent of the Day): Guess 1981 Indigo for Men: As of 02/24/19

Revisiting this fragrance again as my SOTD as of 02/24/19, I just love the way the Fig, Coconut and Iris were well blended and as well the lavender and musk are connected in the background. And the Fig note is beginning to be one of my favorite note(s). My nose detects more of the Fig, Coconut and Iris from start to finish. Longevity/Performance is beastly on my skin 8-11 sprays, lasted on my skin as a skin scent around 12+ hrs. Overall rating it will be a tad bit bumped up from 8 out of 10 to 8.25 out of 10. Is a must have to any collection to me is a hidden gem from Guess.

Yurpdod

I have to admit that I have a soft spot for Guess and their fragrances, even though most would probably criticize them as being overly commercial and bland. But I loved Guess clothes in my late teens, and I thought the cologne Guess Suede was absolutely the sexiest thing I had ever smelled (I just repurchased a bottle of it recently for nostalgia purposes and it totally holds up!).

1981 Indigo for Men is a very surprising and modern fragrance from Guess. It has a fresh fig note as the centerpiece, balanced with soft, abstract florals, and an amazing coconut-tonka-woody base. The sage-lavender accord is great, and the whole fragrance is very well-rounded. It smells youthful and enthusiastic, and is gender-ambivalent in a way that is very millennial and "now". I like 1981 Indigo very much! It is a great budget alternative to fig fragrances like Philosykos and Premier Figuier.

blindbuysonly

WOW, I am in love with this fragrance! I will definitely be buying a back up bottle. Not sure I detect any bergamot, though.

smellsbells

comeon guys...projection? longevity?

uklezz

Impressive release from Guess. Oh man.. this smells so good. I had a small sample given to me after buying a pair of jeans and i honestly wasnt expecting anything from a brand like guess given that their fragrances are often unimpressive. That sample was enough to convince me to order a full bottle. This smells incredibly fresh and addicting. I have over 150 bottles (including several niches) and i have never really smelled anything quite like it, so it is pretty unique i'll give it that. One of the rare scent that got my girlfriend asking what it was and I cant really see anyone not liking this. To me, I get a fresh, out of tue shower almost barbershop kind of sent, but with a unique twist. I think its the coconut mixing with the lavender, i definitely get those two notes at first spray. I would describe this as a all season, any situation versatile kind of scent since it does start smelling warmer at the base with the amber, musk, moss and tonka all present and giving it a sweeter vibe on the dry down, but it is still undeniably fresh so it would be a good summer scent too.
I would say this has more of a mature vibe, but i could still see any age rocking this because of the unique elements (coconut, fig) i do not get much iris though. I cant comment yet on performance, but it seemed decent enough from the 3 wearings i had. Probably something you will have to respray after 4-5 hours if you want projection. I will update on performance when i grt my bottle and do some testing.

So far i would definitely recommend to check it out.

jelder_2007

Have a sample and a bottle on the way. To my nose it smells like molecule 01. I have this on one arm and molecule on the other and they are VERY similar.

lmwimsatt

I got this for my man who hasn't even tried it yet. But my son loves it so I let him wear it

hersheybeatz

This is by far one of my favorite fragrances I've bought in a long time.Me and my girlfriend was in the guess store in Washington D.C. Yesterday and I so happen to pick it up and smell it.i put it back because I have so many fragrances but she surprised me and bought it without me knowing.I rate this as a top 20 cologne all time because it's very very out the shower like type fragrance.An18 year old can wear it when you first but it on.After about 45 minutes to a hour it becomes very fresh and mature.I actually wore it today for the first time and got a few comments from a few mature women.Icsay but this and you will definitely be a happy guy!!!!

sniffmaster

Loving the notes, bring back the 80s for goodness sake. Hopefully ‘1981’ for a reason.

This actually sounds pretty good; I'm gonna give it a try
