Modern Muse by Estée Lauder is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women. Modern Muse was launched in 2013. Modern Muse was created by Harry Fremont and Olivier Cresp. Top note is Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Jasmine Sambac, Chinese Jasmine, Lily, Honeysuckle, Flower Petals and Tuberose; base notes are Musk, Patchouli, Patchouli Leaf, Woody Notes, Amber and Madagascar Vanilla.

Estée Lauder presents Modern Muse, the first major perfume launch in the last decade since Beyond Paradise from 2003 (wwd). This perfume is Estée Lauder’s attempt to climb back to the top of the perfume houses. Modern Muse symbolizes what it means to be an independent and self-confident woman today, sure of herself and her style. It is a confidence that inspires.

Perfumer Harry Fremont tried to express the duality of the composition by creating a two accord composition of sparkling jasmine (which symbolizes femininity) and sleek woods (representing strength). The first accord, accord of jasmine, blends exotic notes of mandarin, tuberose, fresh lily, honeysuckle, dewy petals, Sambac jasmine and Chinese Sambac jasmine absolute. The sleek woods accord combines two types of patchouli, Madagascar vanilla, amber wood and soft musk.

Model Arizona Muse (whose name fits perfectly) is the face of the new fragrance. The fragrance is available as 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

I love this one! To me, this smells like black licorice. It reminds me especially of the black licorice scented marker from a scented markers set that smells like various fruits that I had as a kid! A little sweet, musky and a hint of orange. Very office appropriate! It does remind me of SJP Lovely and Narciso Rodriguez, but better!

It is March 1st and I just returned from walking my dog and collecting the trash barrels. It's 36◦ F in New England. The fragrance was definitely projecting at least arm length. When I first sprayed it on I could detect fruit. I see mandarin orange is a top note. But the fruitiness gives way to the flowers -- for me these florals remind me of spring. I know Lily of the Valley/muguets are not part of the scent profile, but that's what I pick up or I am reminded of. I see quite a few comments writing this off as "Meh, nothing special." I dunno. We or I at least live in a time where people seem to have a lot allergies or asthma etc. This fragrance is very well blended like a good smooth whiskey. It doesn't tickle the nose or elicit a sneezing or coughing reaction. This fragrance was inspired by the New York- based ballerina Misty Copeland. If you're a dancer, you probably want to minimize wearing strong or for that matter any kind of fragrance.I could see Misty Copeland wearing this once the top and middle notes have dried down. It has a pleasant and friendly quality to it. I can imagine the dancer and the choreographer working together and being envelopped by this fragrance. Not everyone wants a beast mode fragrance or a fragrance that demands attention. Sometimes you just want to smell pretty or pleasant and invite others around you to appreciate your scent. This is a good choice. It's good for everything, every occasion and priced at $40. Holy moly! Sure, there are plenty of other choices. Fine. But if you want something that is classy, well-composed, pleasant and easy to wear that suits everyone, and won't kill your purse, you won't be disappointed with Modern Muse. It smells as good if not better than J'adore by Dior (no hate on j'adore - just comparing). This is marketed as a female fragrance, but it might be an interesting choice for a man. Men like flowers too. For what this perfume is I rank it 9/10 for longevity (6hrs +/-), composition, affordability, likeability and mood enhancement. It's an easy reach.

This is a gentle, inoffensive, delicate floral beauty and I'm here for it. It is my experience that Modern Muse is asthma and allergy safe but your mileage may vary.

Narwhal544

A very clean and fresh floral, delicate and good for summer. Ideal for wearing at work - it would be difficult not to like this!

lagavulinx

Whitenflowers a bit of rose at 1st then when sniffing alot it smells like it mire turns to red rose tuberose menthol dry driftwood. Nah. At 1sr I thought it smelled like idole but then the white flowers kicked in too much. I dont smell it until I get like an inch from my wrist, so I passed when I saw 2 for auction at $27.

Mimithenoynoy

I blind bought it at winter time. At first I could not get any smell since I was not expect to smell such a delicate perfume and thought if it was a fake perfume. Then I brought it to Sephora to check with the original ones and found out that it is original, too. I was so dissapointed by the smell. After months, I tried it in the summer time again. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the flowerness and cleanness of the perfume. More I wear it in the summertime, more I enjoyed the smell. İt is one of my summertime besties now.

09pinkrose02

it's perfect to wear to the office or a lecture, it's clean and inoffensive and pretty much smells like someone who took an everything shower. It's so not special though, could easily be a toilet spray imo. I wear it around the house as it gives a spa-like feel and is nice to spray on bedsheets etc. I also wear it to interviews, it's the kind of scent no one would be bothered by as it's very pleasant, but it's not a head-turner. I would recommend it to someone who likes perfumey clean scents, if you're a sweet floral enjoyer this isn't for you...

missparfums77

For me , it’s like if Narcisso for her and Light Blue by D&G had a baby, a nice day time fragrance and people pleaser

Sophisticated_style

A very classy combination of elegant, crisp jasmine and soft woods. My favourite combination 🤍 🪵
I adore this perfume, signature worthy, a repeat buy for me and a modern classic.

swedishmilk15

I'm shocked that anyone cares about this fragrance enough for there to exist flankers so numerous. Sorry, EL.

Modern Muse is a nice white floral, and there's musk. Well-crafted. Yawn-inducing.

MTK82

I wear for official meetings and get togethers. It's a clean girl responsible type girly perfume. Perfect for office wear. A clean and crisp scent, underwhelming and drab. But it kinda works

an_baum

sleek glass counter-y, "womanly", musky magazine florals. pencil skirts, skyscraper cubicles & wine-colored pumps immediately come to mind. PG2013.

FlowerSeeker

A classy timeless floral. I notice the jasmine and lily. My husband notices the honeysuckle and a lilac note. Neither one of us likes patchouli and are pleased we don’t pick up on any. I don’t notice vanilla either. The musk is mild and blends well with my skin. I like this and will wear it again!

rene.saller

This isn't my favorite EL fragrance, but I recently decided to give it another try, and I like it better now. I would describe it as a fairly clean citrus/white-floral, despite the dirty patchouli and musk base notes (which don't come through too much for me, thank goodness--no doubt the main reason I never gave away this bottle of EDP). I catch a fleeting peppery note sometimes, a bit like carnation or chrysanthemum. I like this scent just fine, but at least with my skin chemistry it doesn't really do anything special. I prefer it to Pleasures, but I don't like it as much as Beyond Paradise or (my all-time favorite EL scent) Sensuous.

TDSollog

Considering the notes behind this one, I expected something special. This is a floral with a patchouli base on me. An unabashed feminine one. Jasmine, honeysuckle and tuberose are prominent for the first 5 - 6 hours on me, then a musky, cozy patchouli with flowers in the background. I recommend, especially if your like classics with a twist. Not "dated" and not "trendy".

qianqian

A bit sour and fruity but balanced by sweetness in the opening. Suits me well.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

I like this perfume, but it wasn't a love for me. It smelt slightly too mass market and synthetic for my tastes personally. I felt that the ingredients in Modern Muse didn't smell super high quality and super well blended. It was a very pleasant perfume but nothing outstanding or different for me.

I tried this on my skin and I smelt it to see if it was a true honeysuckle soliflore perfume or at least smelt a lot like honeysuckle, but I only got a fairly present honeysuckle note in this. I smelt the jasmine and the lily in this fragrance too, but I didn't really smell any tuberose now that I think about it. I do get a hint of the orange at the top in this though and it adds some freshness.

I couldn't smell the wood and the vanilla so much in the base notes, but I got a decent dose of amber, patchouli and especially musk. It's a very powdery and musky perfume and it indeed makes me think of powder rooms and the perfume Narciso Rodriguez for her. I think that a wide range of people would like this and that it's a safe and inoffensive perfume one could wear to work while wearing a white shirt and a suit.

Modern Muse had moderate projection on me and moderate longevity, clocking in at 6 hours on my skin. Nothing feels intrusive about the scent bubble this gives you and it would not invade anyone's personal space wherever you go. I think that spring and summer during the day would be great times to wear this perfume.

All in all, fairly decent and a 7/10 for me. This isn't quite full bottle worthy for me, but I'd definitely wear it if it came free with an Estée Lauder Gift With Purchase that they always do in their (Estée Lauder's) promotions during sales.

RM1997

This is one of my favourite scents of all time. I had my first bottle years ago as a gift from my mum -after I helped myself to hers on d daily basis while on holiday together- and so it always reminds me of her (not sure this sells it well lol). Now, 5 years later it has me in a chokehold once again and I feel that as a mature working woman I embody the scent and carry it much better. It has a light and simple springtime feel to it which exudes professionalism and femininity. I was lucky enough to grab a big bottle at duty free, and it has been put to use almost daily for the last few months. I cannot recommend it enough.

KillerBee123

What an underestimated beauty in the sea of Blah!

I have re-discovered it recently having put it aside for years.
On me it have so many layers that come with the hours I wear it and the warmth of my skin.

I really, really sorry that when the Rouge, Chic and Nuit were still available a couple of years ago I did not buy them. I believe they are discontinued and could be found on eBay and Amazon for ridiculous prices.

Lotte_Liese

This fragance reminds me of Lancôme's Idôle, not because they are similar but because they are both uncomplicated, simple, feminine florals that although have no fireworks, would be very suitable for being an office scent or signature fragrance. They cannot offend.

XOXO_marcel

A big, classic, musky white floral. I could see this appealing to young women and grandmas alike. It's well-balanced and doesn't cross into the territory of being "too" big. Not headache-inducing like many similar scents. There's a verrryyy slight hint of sweet vanilla on the back end, but it's almost entirely floral.

Similar to Angel Elixir.

annasarahr121

Modern Muse is the first non-classic, post-1990 Estee Lauder fragrance that I ever enjoyed. Before that, I loved White Linen, Private Collection, and Tuscany Per Donna, while Knowing was my signature scent for 15 years after it was first released. Because I've always thought highly of Estee Lauder perfumes, I picked Modern Muse up, blind, when I found it for much less at TJ Maxx back around 2014/15. I wore the juice in that first bottle a fair amount, actually, back in the day when I only had 8 or 10 perfumes; only now, I just cracked open my second bottle that I had as a backup...

Modern Muse has always been a scent that I low-key love, as opposed to "love with absolute abandon," but I do really enjoy the stuff. I'd describe it as cool, collected, put-together, a bit in the same family -- especially in the clean, fresh opening -- as aquatic florals like Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue and Tous Gold (though it doesn't smell like those, it has a bit of the same effect). As it dries down, the jasmine + honeysuckle really comes forward -- I ADORE honeysuckle and MM has the best honeysuckle note I've ever come across in a perfume! -- along with an astringent note that sort of reminds me of tea, over a clean, white musk in the same vein as the original Tous with the silver teddy bear top. It's subtle and very well-behaved -- some might say TOO well-behaved to make much of an impression -- and very fresh and pretty. I have to positively BATHE in it, spritzing a ridiculous amount of times, to create the kind of scent cloud I enjoy. It's an understated, classy, cool, sophisticated yet easy-wearing fragrance for when you just want to smell nice and don't want to make much of a statement. I find it clings to the skin, wearing fairly close, for about 4-5 hours; this is when I spray about 6-8 sprays up and down each arm and another 6-8 on my neck & decolletage (I think that qualifies me as an oversprayer...?). But, in spite of this crazy spraying, I got no complaints, nor compliments, for that matter, from my somewhat discerning husband, so that cements my impression that Modern Muse "reads" as just clean and fresh. Clearly, I really enjoy it and will always have a place for it in my collection.

Incidentally, I don't think it's that similar to any of the Narciso Rodriguez for Hers (which I also love) mostly because they have so much sweet osmanthus that give those perfumes a fruity, apricotty warmth, while Modern Muse is so resolutely cooly FLORAL.

rosemiragenights

Beautiful jasmine/mandarin perfume. Scent of a no-nonsense business woman. Classy, serious, feminine, office friendly. No matter how many perfumes I try, I always come back to Modern Muse. It’s just so elegant.

Enrium

Modern Muse is a musky white floral scent, pleasant and soft. It is along the lines of SJP Lovely or its more expensive counterpart, Narciso Rodriguez for Her, but without rose. It is classy and clean, ideal for daily workwear, inoffensive and nonchalantly feminine.

NR-style white musk is evident from initial spray, permeating this scent throughout with clean, soft muskiness. White florals are present from the beginning - sweet orange blossom initially (or perhaps an impression created from the orange and jasmine notes), tempered by the musk, and a surprising lily-of-the-valley note, green and radiantly clean.

Powdery jasmine rounds it out, becoming dominant as it progresses. It unexpectedly reminds me of Tommy Girl as the orange subsides - perhaps due to an unlisted tea note. It is fresh here. Patchouli adds a nice hint of earthiness to the base.

It becomes woody as it dries down with some vanilla adding sweetness. The musk remains dominant as it fades to a musky skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate.

A year-round everyday scent, MM is unexciting but pleasant and nicely put-together. I prefer rose with musk personally, so I would choose Lovely over this, but that's just my preference. Fuss-free femininity. 3.5/5.

Atomikbomb_

I don't actually smell jasmine with this predominantly, I actually smell orange blossom! I *can* pick up on the jasmine, but it takes some time after it dries to catch it for me. But wow...I really, really get orange blossom 😅

I think this smells like *PERFUME*! It's not at all that "modern", because it's lacking in overt fruits or vanilla that hallmark many current releases...and I'm more than fine with it. I really enjoy this and truly didn't anticipate it.

It's a shamelessly floral fragrance, and on my skin personally it really sings. I played some air hockey in the mall, and as this was heating on my skin I was enveloped with such a beautiful, present, but still tastefully light white floral cloud 🥰

But then...it got even better. I kept thinking that this reminded me of Narciso Rodriguez For Her, and come to find out that is a common impression here! I'm so thrilled, even if it is redundant, because I adore For Her! It's a beautiful, snuggly sharp but crazily femme musk. I'm not sure what aromachemical produces this effect, but I'm a huge fan. I happened to wear a leather jacket today while testing this, which is also my go to while I wear For Her, it just feels right 🖤

This is lovely. I'd rate it a 10 if it had stronger patchouli in the base, but goodness, it's beautiful. Easily a 9.

Koningin

I had this one a couple years ago and got rid of it fairly quickly cause I found it to be a tad boring and too musky. I repurchased it recently and I can now appreciate it much more. It’s perfect for the spring weather.
It’s a simple yet cozy and pretty smell that cheers me up. I really like it this time around. I think it might have to do with the the time of year since the first time I had it, it was in the winter.

TheNyx2003

Simple but in a best way !
It has no twist in it , it's just smell like a green , natural jasmine , the jasmine is not synthetic at all , at first sniff i said to myself that this is nothing special but when you wear it give you crisp , self_confident vibe which is really nice
This fragrence is about "THE VIBE"
Usually heavy floral/white floral fragrences are propper for well_matured womens but this one has no limitation , every women in every age that they has can wear this IMO
some comments said that this is propper for office but i think it's more than that , i see signature scent potential in modern muse
Thanks estee lauder ;) never discontinue this beauty 🩵

lady_ireth264

I definitely agree that this smells similar to Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDT, but less intense.
It's funny because there's no jasmine in NR.
For Modern Muse, I get jasmine in the beginning. A clear, fresh jasmine note unlike the thick grapey one in Alien, which I adore but unfortunately anosmic to.
I think this jasmine note stays for 15 minutes, and then for me lily and tuberose are the ones most prominent. The white flowers plus musk is making it similar to NR but not as opulent and swoon-worthy.
It's pretty, simple, not offensive, office appropriate, great for summer definitely.
I'm curious about how long it will last for me.

Iristhenurse

I have near early used up the whole bottle. It was poetic, romantic and lovely Jasmine based perfume. It feels like a gentle, feminine yet also sophisticated girl. I would name it “ First love” but “ Modern muse” is also very apt. It has an innocent and gentle vibe to it. This is a timeless kinda scent and it would be perfect if you are a fan of jasmine as a fragrance. I would buy it again. I so think it is a likeable perfume so in my opinion it is a safe option to be bought as a presents. I would wear it to an interview or a date. I think she is easy to use and versatile.

saho93

I would not characterize this as “modern” like the moniker implies because I think this is timeless.

This is quite lovely. I like lush floral, and this fits the bill. Jasmine, honeysuckle, notes I really like.

Very feminine and well formulated.

Update 4/20/2023. I sprayed again today, and this so gorgeous. I am upgrading to love. So so nice. 10 out of 10.

stephanienwc

I smelled Modern Muse for the first time today (very late to the party - yes I know) and I was surprised by how clean it smelled. Beautiful jasmine, not to heavy but prominent, layered over white musk. The patchouli and amber rounds it well nicely with some warmth to keep it from being too high pitched. It's a beautiful formula.

Lucius Smellfoy

An invigorating jasmine with a touch of musk to keep it from being too virginal. This would make a beautiful wedding perfume. It’s fairly linear though on my skin the longer I wear it the bigger it becomes. It lasts decades on clothing and will get you through an entire work day and then some. For some reason it calls to mind images of China in springtime, I can’t explain why. I’d rate this a solid 8/10 only docking a few points as I don’t smell the mandarin and I would love to.

LiliiiS

it's strange because I dislike the pink Narciso Rodriguez, Guerlain Idyyl and SJP Lovely(unfortunately these three perfumes make me feel sick) but I really like EL Modern Muse!
for me the strongest note is flower petals, not a specific flower, but white flowers in general and a very nice musk. clean but not too soapy or scrachy
this is one of my favorite perfumes for spring and summer. it's crisp and clean and fresh. I find it very feminine and sort of classy. ageless yet youthful. it also lasts and projects very well.I believe it can be a very good bridal perfume.

Air of Grace

I tried this at the department store and mentioned to the store lady that I would like to walk around for an hour to get a better perspective of how this fragrance works on my skin .

The initial opening notes are to die for . I didn’t get any mandarin just a cool Jasmine and floral petals .

I wanted to buy a bottle there and then . But I let it settle on my skin and noticed an amazing scent follow me around the shopping centre .

It’s silage and longevity is astounding but my only negative is that it then changed to a powdery scent so reminiscent of Idylle by Guerlain . I gave that perfume to my mum cause it was way too powdery and potent .

This is much more toned down but I just can’t do excessive musk . I don’t get any patchouli , Thank God !

Overall very good value and such a pretty scent but not bottle worthy just for the musk notes .

tamarj

my favorite parfum. You can feel it all day and enjoy. I will buy it again

marinejuana

felt nice at first spritz but then i had to wash off my arms to get rid of it :(((( caused a terrible headache and made me feel nervous. not my muse at all

vwgirl123

This smells 99 percent just like the old Lovely before they reformulated it! Ultra feminine pink and white florals with a light creamy white musk! I'm beyond happy I discovered it because Lovely used to be my favorite perfume and I can't stand the screachy lavender note in the new reformulation.

Nocciola23

I love this! I tested it years ago and didn't enjoy it but now I find it wonderful.
To me the patchouli and Mandarin are the most noticeable notes, giving it a freshness that reminds me of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. It's not a sweet floral and I love that about it. It gives it a more sophisticated edge. I do find it to disappear quite quickly though, which is a shame. 8.5/10 from me

Stefanija

Modern Muse smells extremely beautiful, when I caught a whiff of it 5 mins after spraying, it brought back the feeling of getting an instant crush on someone as they walk by 😆 I feel like it would be hard not to feel attracted to someone wearing this.

Veronica1962

It’s a nice perfume but I’m only rating it as ok because I couldn’t really smell the white florals like jasmine, just florals. It could of been a bit better. 6/10

Jezebelle

Fresh daytime elegant feminine floral with a touch of citrus. Has an ageless vibe, if it wasn't for the marketing and the bottle I can just as well see this on a sweet teenage girl as on a 45 years old career lady. Smells natural, well blended and expensive. Very inoffensive (It's very hard to overspray), very pretty, very wearable.

Anabee

I’m in love with this fragrance. To me it smells like Chanel No 5 should’ve smelled. (Not a fan of Chanel No 5, other than its history and its image.) I’m glad I found ‚Modern Muse‘ I had different fragrances in the past, with a similar vibe, like Le Parfum by Elie Saab (The EDT version!) and Idôle by Lancôme. I wanted a sophisticated, „grown up“ scent, which was still young and sexy. The opposite of girly girl but still feminine, not tomboy. I loved Elie Saab (the EDT) , but it became too womanly for me after a while. Maybe it was my fault, bc I stored it in my bathroom, I might give this one a chance again. Same happened to me with Idôle. I smelled Idôle on a female neighbor of mine, it was gorgeous on her!! Simply gorgeous, but somehow it was too strong on me, and became much too orange-y and scratchy after a while. ‚Modern Muse‘ with the soft musk and Jasmine reminds me of Narcisso Rodriguez For Her (edt) but ‚Modern Muse‘ is fresher, cleaner, and more natural smelling than the former.

‚Modern Muse‘ smells like a rich girl that is the personification of the ‚clean girl aesthetic’ . She got old money, she’ll never wear a monogram bag or anything too loud. She’s vibrant yet chill, she’s lean and healthy. Her skin is glowy, her nails are always done but natural looking. Her hair is long and shiny. Her makeup minimal. she wears a crisp white shirt, perfectly fitting blue jeans and ridiculously expensive lingerie underneath. Everything about her is sexy, yet effortless. Her fragrance is merely the cherry on top, not the whole desert. This to me, is what ‘Modern Muse’ achieves! You don’t get a crazy silage, but anyone who comes close, knows you’re wearing something that elevates you. It doesn’t overpower who YOU are, it just makes you a bit better.

I made the comparison to NR For Her bc of the jasmine and musk combo. It’s got a very similar dry down, but a completely different opening and overall vibe. NR too often than not, smells like damp laundry of a heavy smoker, combined with the sweetness of laundry detergent. It doesn’t matter, who I smell this on, this unfortunately is always the impression I get. NR’s jasmine smells artificial, while the ‚Modern Muse‘ jasmine smells like you‘re standing in a garden. It also has honeysuckle in it. When I smell honeysuckle, I think of huge, elegant mansions in the South and endless summers.

The opening of ‚Modern Muse’ smells like the green of freshly cut flowers and then the Jasmine & Honeysuckle come through, and something soft and woody afterwards. To me this fragrance is perfection. It’s my personal Chanel No 5. A modern classic. It could last longer, tho. 9/10

jadesfragrances

spotted this at the store and thought i’d test it - i owned and loved le rouge gloss (now discontinued :() and i’ve been really missing it lately, yet i’d never tried the OG modern muse. obviously this isn’t comparable as the notes are very different, and it’s lacking the cherry/rose/vinyl combo that i loved in LRG, but i can still pick up that base DNA here.
still a very pretty, feminine fragrance. florals are very soft and fresh, though there is a slight soapy-ness to it which isn’t a bad thing, just a little generic.

orangerose18

This is a warm, floral scent – I get the white flowers, the jasmine, and the musk, but it also smells like candles to me. The citrus note goes sour on my skin and it becomes rather rank. Not a good one for me, but would recommend if you're a full grown Woman in management or similar.

dendry

One of the listed notes is 'flower petals' and the opening did feel like being showered with a cascade of petals, an imagined flower rather than a real one. It's immensely pretty and blushing bride-y and makes me think of pink and white blossom in spring. It faded quickly though, to a skin scent (which is unusual for a Lauder fragrance; they usually go on and on and on .... and on) and then a few hours later became a pleasant, if generic, softly woody memory. It's a pleasure to wear and I don't see longevity as a problem; you can just re-spray.

pinkandpearly

So far I am using my 3rd or 4th bottle. I really love this perfume. Yes it is not long lasting but it's very classy. You can smell the classic Estee Lauder Pleasure. I really like the elegant Jasmine in it. My signature perfume. I will keep buying it.

ArianaS

Similar with Narciso Rodriquez “For Her”, Elie Saab” Le Parfum”, Sarah Jessica Parker “Lovely” and Philosophy “Live Joyously” but Modern Muse is the most sophisticated from all, mature and well blended.

moonsunstars

The burst of Mandarin Orange at first spray reminds me so much of Lovely Sheer. I detect Jasmine and honeysuckle the most as it starts to settle into the skin. The drydown, I adore. Even then, I still find it more similar to Lovely Sheer, than the original Lovely. However, there is no sharp vetiver - just a delightful blend of musk, patchouli, and a tiny bit of vanilla. It's such a beautiful sweet floral musk. I am glad I finally picked this one up, because it's been on my wishlist for a while - I intend to wear this quite frequently.

pattygirl

A safe, work-appropriate floral musk. More work friendly than Narciso Rodriguez. The jasmine goes a teensy bit indolic for about 30 mins after application on me. After that, this smells like NR-light. The amber musky sweetness that is present in NR is not present here. I enjoy this for office wear and office-related, after-work gatherings with superiors. Mature, but not in a vintage way. Things this is not: sexy, flirty, sultry, attention-seeking. Things it is: professional, musky floral - yet clean, proper, smart, no-nonsense. If you are looking to seduce - this isn't it.

Modern Muse was my first ever "grown up" perfume, way back before I got really into fragrance and developed a taste for musky, skanky niche powerhouses full of amber and patchouli and spice and filth. However, despite that predilection I still do always return to this scent in Spring.
It's a realistic honeysuckle, with jasmine providing an undertone, and enough musk, patchouli, and amber in the base to keep me happy. Modern Muse is sophisticated and classy, but the musk keeps it a little bit naughty. It's expensive pencil skirts and crisply ironed shirts and suit jackets, with scarlet lace underwear and stockings hidden beneath. Work appropriate, or date appropriate, but noticeable enough to make a statement rather than blending in to the background. She may be more mainstream than most of my collection, but I don't think I will ever be without her.

libraangel98

I love this scent, it makes me feel awfully grown-up every time I wear it. The perfect scent for a corporate job interview, or an important meeting where you want to make a statement. Smells like sexy old money to me.

Sabrinabtw

I loved this one from the first time I smelled it on a tear strip in a magazine before it was released. I had forgotten about it and purchased for nostalgia recently and have been wearing it obsessively. It's the dry down that gets me, it just works so well with my chemistry and it gets better and better the longer it's on my skin. I am a jasmine fanatic but often hate the citrus notes it's so frequently paired with. I do get a lot of orange at first but it mellows into such a pretty, clean, soft scent. It lasts all day and I can smell it my clothes the next day. I don't get any sharp or bitter notes nor do I get any heavy sweetness either. This is a perfect white floral for me.

tessture

A dense white floral bouquet with the honeysuckle, lily and jasmine very clear and fairly realistic. Indolic in the back but not offensively so (I hate indole). Base notes are a nice smooth melange of powdery woods and vanillic musks, with something like hairspray lurking. It reminds me of the older women in my life when I was growing up: fashionable, elegant women, but still a much older generation, so wearing it makes me feel more elderly than I’m ready for. Sometimes it’s reminding me of vintage Avon scents. Not really my thing.

Emera1d

A colleague has been wearing Modern Muse recently and it is very strong and noticeable jasmine scent with a little bit of a vintage feel. Now that I have smelled it and seen how it performs I no longer want to test it on myself, as it feels a little bit too dated for my taste.

Astar88

I always loved this, was pretty much the first perfume I actually fell in love with, it's a clean white musk with beautiful white flower and soft wood notes, it doesn't have much lasting power or sillage and you pretty much have to bathe in it to keep the scent, but whatever it's a beauty and I often have compliments when I wear it.
I don't wear it everyday like I did before, I've changed my taste a bit and am leaning towards warmer woods, ambers, vanillas and such.
I'm not sure if this is on the way to being discontinued, alot of the modern muse lines have been disappearing and the unit version that I also loved is also restricted to 50ml bottles now.

aliengunaydin

With this perfume I can see how the tastes can change. For me this perfume is 5/5, the perfect fragrance to my nose. Maybe the only perfume which I wanna fill my lungs with when I smell. I can only detect slightly sweet and fresh honeysuckle jasmin combo and that’s it. It’s amazingly blended. So beautiful. The vibe is either a princess with velvet powder pink dress or middle aged privileged woman in nyc living far away from world problems. So clean and fresh with a mature feminine character.

ingeneuxo

-Clean, woody citrus scent.
-Dries down leaning a tad perfumey for my liking. (-)

netaz5

Beautiful white floral, very feminine and not sweet
unfortunately doesn't last too long on me,but I love this scent

lysithea

Intoxicating white flowers. Tuberose and jasmine are very prominent. A masterpiece.

Azisai-

This one surprised me! Opening was a little nice but boring at first, your typical sweet mandarin spritz...the drydown is was got me. So far from designer fragrances, this is the most realistic honeysuckle I have ever felt. It's just so...raw? Fresh jasmine and honeysuckle, almost as if I could feel the petals pressing against my nose.

It's quite linear after it dries down, stays shockingly real honeysuckle forever more until it fades away, but that's fine by me because it's lovely.

I kinda want this now simply for that vivid jasmine/honeysuckle note, reminds me of the countryside in the summer when all those flowers are blooming and you can feel them while you're on an afternoon stroll through a meadow. Romantic, but realistic.

BillieNG

Modern Muse is a truly nice fragrance as well as its name , and both live up to any expectations. Having read some of the reviews, I'm bewildered how on Earth one could smell patchouli and musk in here. The first one that I am able to smell is a tuberose . It is lingering for some time bordering Juicy couture (Juicy couture) but without the sweetness. Not much later a distant muguet call (not listed) starts echoing and talks the tuberose into a polite conversation. The jasmine becomes more prominent an hour later and occupies the dry down. This is by no means a rustic bunch of white florals. Each stage is wrapped in suits and pencil skirts bought from any posh retailer chains you can think of. I am not certain if I ever buy it, but if given a bottle, I would gladly wear it. That's for sure.

Hunnynpink

I bought this on mercari so I'm not sure how old it is but it's giving me nail polish/acetone opening and floral patchouli drydown.

bourcet

Coming back to say that I love you, Modern Muse. Wore you outside all day at the county fair, 70 and breezy, and you were still going strong 8 hours later. Musky jasmine, mandarin orange, patchouli. Absolute heaven.

Murmur123123

If you like white florals, you will be able to appreciate Modern Muse. Upon initial spray, the orange top note is slightly sharp (which does remind me a little bit of a bug spray...). Luckily this goes away quite quickly and you are left with very clear dominant jasmine and lily, and the dry down is quite strongly musky (which gives me the Narciso For Her vibe, but I will not say that Modern Muse reminds me of For Her because they are so different from each other. It also smells similar to Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely).

Overall Modern Muse gives me this light and airy quality, but it is not weak or gentle. It has a "high pitch" and strong character - imagine an office lady dressed in a demure outfit, with a quiet but resilient and persistent personality. Not a safe blind buy unless you are a hard core fan of white florals. I can see myself wearing this in day time in all seasons (perhaps except winter when I crave for something warm and cozy) and for both work and casual occasions. But I will be mindful of not over spraying it especially for indoor occasions, because I can see why it may bother someone else's nose.

lemmenkukka

Well hello Honeysuckle, Tuberose and Patchouli, my faithfull friends! This one is a promise of springtime! I find this very uplifting and classy and I highly recommend this!

Fire_Rabbit

I was gifted a 100ml of this perfume for Christmas three years ago. I don’t reach for it often, but when I do, I think of it as pleasant. It feels feminine to wear. A soft clean woody floral. A spring scent. Very elegant.

echurch1979

I've had this perfume for sometime and I have just never gotten around to reviewing it. Which seems crazy to me, because I find nuances of loveliness in its breath every time I spray. Come to think of it, I don't particularly wear it often, and again, why the heck not?! There is a gentle stream of the most realistic honeysuckle babbling through each layer of this perfume. For a gal from California, fragrant honeysuckle could be found around any body of water, natural or manufactured, and always projected the clearest, sweetest nuances of crisp white floral, summer ever knew. The smell itself was radiant light, and touched some of my earliest, and best childhood memories. Jasmine is also present, with its regal stature and tender expression. This seems uncharacteristically simple for a Lauder, but I think that was an intention manifested properly. Dry down offers some woodier, musk driven chords placed surely, as a means of balance and symmetry. Without looking at the press release from 2013, I would say that Modern Muse offers us a precise experience of the entire honeysuckle plant...from the satiny petals, to the sweet nectar you can pull from the stamine to anoint your tongue...to the wooden branches, limbs, and bark...and the fertile earth containing its tender roots. I just love it!
I see that it has received fairly lack-luster reviews here on Fragrantica - my home away from home - which is also slightly perplexing. Then again, when we love something, it's hard to think of any other valid perspective. This takes me back, for a moment, to a time when the sun shone brighter, and kids ran barefoot down dusty roads. Bright colors housing the world, whizzed by the periphery, carrying the most miraculous fragrances of our fleeting youth. There was such freedom found there, amongst the swimming holes, salty skin and soft blooms. All things warming under an omnipotent sun - lazy exhilaration! What nostalgia saturates my soul when I glimpse into that expansive soul, and find such bliss!

valevaleria

Nice sober floral. I imagine a woman arround 40 wearing it for work. Confident and feminine. A nice discover for me.

SoccerMommy

I think using Kendal Jenner as a face of this fragrance wasn’t really suitable. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Kendal but youthful and playful is not what I see in the fragrance.

This is something Meghan Markle’s character in suits would wear. A no-nonsense career woman. It’s good for the office, strong but not obnoxious.

Lovely fragrance, poor marketing.

Beccyb95

Fresh, bright and slightly musky floral. I really like it on me - I love sweet perfumes with musky base notes. My boyfriend likes this one too. I actually like all of the perfumes from this range, though they’re quite different.

ingeneuxo

-Nondescript white floral perfume.
-Longevity: Medium
-Projection: Low
-Not a fan. (-)

SeauxGood

Modern Muse is a musky white floral that, on me, comes across as pleasantly “soapy.” Six hours after spraying I still smelled like I was fresh from either showering or shampooing my hair. I’d put it in the same vein as a Philosophy or a Clean brand fragrance. It’s light, simple, and effortless. The kind of fragrance you choose when you want to smell nice without doing too much. A white cotton shirt type of scent. I can’t wait to see how this will perform in the Summer.

bourcet

I first smelled this on my friend's sister at an outdoor event this year and I had to ask her what she was wearing. Jasmine sambac grows natively where I am and at first I wasn't sure if it was perfume or a blooming bush nearby. The way the perfume projected off of her and into the still, dusk air was incredible. It was intoxicating. It was one of those moments when you can really be transfixed by somebody's perfume that you just HAVE to ask. Having said that, this juice was on my shortlist of frags to buy but figured I should try it at Ulta before I took the plunge. I loved what I sprayed on the tester paper in store so went with a full on wrist spray. Love, love, loved it. Still, figured I'd go home wait for it to fully dry down before pulling the trigger and making the purchase. Well I loved the dry down and loved how long it lasted on me. Overall performance was great.

Here's where things get interesting. I ordered my bottle off of Ulta.com since my local store didn't have it (the one with the in-store tester was over an hour away). When I received my order, I sprayed it on the cardboard inside the box and it really wasn't the same vibe as in-store. On me it's a little stiff, a little cold. I mean, I still like it, but it was too overly white floral. Too waxy and bridal feeling. Too much of that chemically evocative MALL SCENT. Macy's perfume counter here we come! But, because I love reading other peoples reviews on here, I noticed an interesting tidbit from abigailtorres632 stating that this fragrance's scent profile deepens over time. Therefore I must conclude that the tester bottle sitting on the Ulta shelf has fully ripened and therefore offered a richer opening and even better dry down than the fresh bottle I have now.

That's the thing about patchouli fragrances is that they get BETTER OVER TIME! This is like a fine wine or scotch, alright? Some things age well! People on here who say they hate patchouli, are you 5? Are you just boring? Would you prefer Escada fruity florals all four seasons of the year? Should Armani My Way be the only fragrance sold in 2021? Do you hate the earth? Are forests just boring? If Kim Kardashian became a huge patchouli stan, would you like it then? I know I'll get no balloons for this review, and that's fine, I can deal. But there are so many smart people on here who really helped me understand fragrance and complicated molecules and what a certain accord in a fragrance is from, chemically. Saying you hate patchouli and therefore a fragrance eliminates any discourse and just relegates your review to the type of content discussed in the comments section of a Daily Mail post. I thought I hated cashmere notes and that gourmands were disgusting, but it turns out I was just smelling the wrong gourmands. A poorly blended candied fragrance marketed towards teenagers is not the same thing as Mugler or even an expensive vanilla amber combo. I actually thought I hated patchouli, too, because of my mother overspraying Clinique Aromatics Elixir as a child, but you don't need to be attacked by 1970s chypres to enjoy a well blended patchouli. Tastes can change, people can evolve, growth is a good thing.

PenelopeLA

Beautiful musks and florals in this fragrance. I find the patchouli note very soothing, not "in your face". The honeysuckle is also very lovely. Very long lasting with decent projection. I get plenty of compliments when I wear this. It is one that, when I am wearing it, people will say "what do you have on?? you smell great!"

LEM922

My grandmother owns this perfume. She explained to me that she loves it, but it doesn't mesh with her body chemistry so she never wears it. She had me try it on, which is why I'm writing this review. This one confused my nose. I smelled things I liked, and other notes I couldn't stand. I was wavering between "this is kind of nice!" to "this smells AWFUL!" You can definitely smell the mandarin orange on top, it gives it a zest. The florals are quite nice, and the amber is prominent as well which I like. I think what I'm smelling that my nose isn't pleased with is the patchouli. I'm a patchouli hater, so that may be what's repelling me and making me not like the perfume. Its nice for others perhaps, just not for me. It smells very classy, a bit old lady-ish but not in a bad way... just very mature. If you're a fan of perfumes like Coco Chanel, you'll probably like this.

Lixa

Lovely but fading within the hour. No deal for me

Tosca92

I see this is on last call on the Estee site. Has this been discontinued? What a pity. I’m going to miss this. Beautiful fruity powdery jasmine fragrance with a woodsy base. The scent was strong, but not overpowering and lasted for hours. I remember this was my signature scent in 2015. Really nice daytime white floral that was definitely aimed at a younger demographic but was still too mature for their target audience. Definitely stood out from all the popular Floriental Gourmands. It might not have been as memorable as Beautiful or as captivating as Tuberose Gardenia (which also seems to be going, RIP), but it certainly was a nice fragrance that was lovely in its own right

Cynthia.S

I don't think it smells like Narciso For her at all, this one more alike Mugler Alien to me. It's very soft and gentle. A very morden scent just like the name.

FrenchyFry

I wanted to love this. So bad. Honeysuckle and Jasmine is my favorite combo in all of perfume...but this is not a love or even a like. Something about this fragrance turns sour on me, it's so sharp. I don't get any sweetness at all from the honeysuckle or the vanilla, I just get something kinda tart. I usually don't have issues with patchouli or tuberose in fragrances, so I don't think it's that. So, for some reason, I can't make myself like this.
Goes to show that even if you think you'll like all the notes, something may still be in there that doesn't work for you somehow.

Rafaela777

This may be similar to narciso Rodriguez for her edp But, I have both and I love this one more. I much prefer this one and reach for it all the time.
The NR one is more serious this one is airy and easy to wear. The musk here is more toned down also. Great for everyday, running errands or work. Very versatile

foldingwishes

It's bright and pretty... but to be honest there's a note in there that's super generic and instantly transports me to a department store (in the olden heyday of the mall). The initial spritz is effervescent and pretty, and then it becomes overpowered by that one boring note. Hmm... maybe it's the Tuberose. Tuberose never smells good on me.

AsiaP

I'm in love with this perfume. It's soft and fresh but not too sweet. Jasmine and honeysuckle combination is amazing!! I can wear it everyday.

Help !

Please, somebody tell what note that is: I am receiving

I splashed my sample pretty generously and for the first half, I got something close to Gucci Bloom. More accurately, the flanker Ambrosia di Fiori which is stronger than the original Bloom. This gave me a blast of honeysuckle-jasmine-tuberose with pretty strong projection that lasted about two hours. Compared to the Bloom blend, for me this leaned more to honeysuckle and jasmine and less tuberose.
Then after about two hours it changed completely and turned into a kind of rough skanky-ish musk. I don't think this musk is anything like Narciso Rodriguez, which is so smooth and graceful and enveloping, this managed to be loud even as the projection dropped. That part lasted another four hours or so before fading away completely.

Koningin

This perfume is quite sharp. White florals is the star here.
I read everyone thinks this smells like Narciso Rodriguez but I don’t understand how you guys smell the similarities? This perfume is verrryyy sharp and NR is soft rounded, little powder and sweetness but has some pepper as well. Perhaps you guys are conflating the pepper note in NR with the white florals in this one. Anyways, to me it’s more similar to Issey Miyake.

kkaattjjeess

Unsuccessful blind buy here.

I saw a small youtuber that I like rave about this perfume, so read some reviews on here, and decided to order it.

It's not a bad perfume, but the lily is a bit harsh on my skin and overpowers everything else (not in a good way).

I will test it a few more times and hopefully grow to like it, but so far this belongs to my 'Meh' section.

sablepoot

A lovely well blended floral. Easy to wear, I like it after a shower. Perhaps a bit bland? Would prefer it with more depth.

jane.3

On me, this is wonderful. Woody with a hint of citrus. Someone said it reminded them of mosquito repellent (citronella?), and, oddly, I get that. It's complicated and not really romantic. Definitely not a first date fragrance. But it seems to say something authentic about ME.

I love it.

White florals, I don't get. And honeysuckle? Not a bit. Jasmine? Not at all. I've also got Diptyque Olene and THAT is Jasmine. All jasmine, all the time, nothing but jasmine.

Unfurling Blossoms

This one is sad for me because I originally had a travel sized version from Scent Bird which I bought last year. The smell was INTOXICATING and enchanting... Yes, it smelled like Lovely and Narciso for Her but with this bold and dominant woody base of cedar and the notethat smelled like pencil shavings - I LOVE that smell! However, this week, I bought a full bottle of it with a batch code from January 2019 - I'm assuming the batch from Scent Bird was years before - and it smelled NOTHING like my Scent Bird atomizer! It was flat, mellow and just a fluffy cloud of a Lovely clone but that's it... The beautiful sharp pencil shaving note was gone. 😮😮😮😖😪

Someone told me it could be due to the Scent Bird being an older batch and the base notes becoming more prominent. I was SHOCKED! The fragrance I had loved was just an illusion of time and nothing more.

I had hoped the perfumer would have made the woody note more prominent at the start so that those of us who loved the way it settled wouldn't have to wait years for it to be "ready" to wear in the present time.

If that is indeed what happened it is a very traumatizing aspect of fragrance and makes me rethink decants and keeping fragrance past a certain number of years to avoid being tricked in the future. By this estimate we should all be smelling the newer batches - devoid of the past-due dates of many bottles sold on the grey markets - if we want to know what a perfume TRULY smells like! Because what are the odds I will be able to find that same pre-aged bottle in other second hand shops just to chase notes that weren't even present when the scent was designed. 😡😡😡

Edit: I just received a mini bottle of this fragrance (my third source of sampling) with a batch code of 2015. It smells just like the Scent Bird sample which means the longer it sits, the more the base notes evolve and deepen. *sigh* Why do I have to wait years for this fragrance to be beautiful?!

ibanana

This is a beautifully done floral with a really solid woody-musky-patchouli base. Love at first sniff. I normally find musk and patchouli together to create a depth and heaviness to a scent...however not here! This perfume is not heavy and with a just-right depth and complexity...a Goldilocks of perfumes. It isn't anything ground breaking, but it is incredibly well executed! I smell Jasmine from start to finish, but the longer I wear it the more complex and beautiful the fragrance becomes. If I close my eyes and sniff, it takes me to a lush English garden in the middle of a hot summer's day where the sun warms the flowers and makes them more fragrant. I adore this scent and will be wearing it year round. This perfume lasts an entire day for me (8-hrs ish), with a good projection that's not overbearing and moderate silliage.

KittyDeBeauvoir

I think I have to be honest with myself here and admit I was a little harsh on this fragrance.

I finally bought a 50ml bottle for a decent price from eBay because I felt it had to have a certain "je ne sais quoi"; a certain "something" that inspired so many positive reviews.

It has a citrus opening. I smelled it initially on the first few sprays, loved it, and have missed it ever since. I honestly really loved the invigorating orange burst. No matter.

Afterwards, the white florals. And they're quite lovely. Both individually recognisable, yet also very well-blended together. You definitely get jasmine, honeysuckle, and some LOTV that come off as a nice floral bloom.

The dominant jasmine mixes with musk, and *that's* the front-runner throughout the life of this perfume. It's a cozy, warm, musky jasmine. I think I prefer my jasmine sharper and fresher, but I don't mind this. I most definitely get SJP "Lovely" vibes from this! 100%.

It's got better longevity than I initially gave it credit for. It smells pretty - lovely, even - on your clothes. You won't offend anybody with this, but you might not always get a compliment on how *amazing* you smell. Thus, a great office scent.

I don't know if I'll purchase a full bottle again, but - then again - I initially thought it was Nothing Perfume, so... confusingly...here we are.

Kitty rating: 7.5/10.

thecluelesscreative

Classic white florals, fresh, good for a professional setting. However, I don't like tuberose, so that kind of ruined this perfume for me. This one is nice, but I prefer the Le Rouge variation.

Duft Liebe

This is a pleasant, soft and easy every day scent for me. It might be less unique and "life changing" than the older EL releases I love so much.

Am I the only one to notice the similarity to TWILIGHT (newer formulation) from Sarah Jessica Parker ?

WijayantiKusuma

Got the mini version from my uncle who shares the same passion as i do, perfumes. This is a straight white florals bouquet which i love. To me it's more to a Classic Muse instead of Modern Muse. I got tuberose, jasmine, musky and woody scents. For me personally, it's a perfect fragrance!

Iker212

The crux of this review is largely focused on how this fragrance for me evoked just a general ambience and imagery in my head, a first for my fragrance reviews.
The first few seconds out of the bottle, it smells pretty mediocre, as if this smell has been done before a million times...BUT, the drydown is where it's more appealing to me.
There is something that smells distinctly 'modern' about this fragrance (even though I would normally associate 'modern' with more fresh and sharper smells, but this is not sharp). 'Modern' immediately came to mind when I smelled this, even before I realized what the name of this was, and it evoked images of sleek evening business parties in glass high rises (oddly specific, and a bit cliché for imagery, I know). Perhaps it's the lily-honeysuckle blend, but this is exactly what I would describe as a 'contemporary woman'. In that vein, this is an extremely adeptly-named fragrance, something I don't usually give much thought. When I was using the sample I received, I kept on going back and sniffing my wrists, and to me, if I want to keep smelling this on myself, it's an obvious sign that I should probably purchase it. The sillage and longevity could both be a bit stronger, but all-in-all, a pleasant surprise from Esteé Lauder.
(Oh, and I usually won't comment on this, but for how much I like this fragrance, I don't like the bottle design--for a scent called 'Modern Muse', the bottle reads more 'Pretty Schoolgirl'.)

mokin001

I will admit that I was surprised by Modern Muse. When I first smelled her, I was in the fragrance section at a beauty store and I was instantly transported to a Thursday afternoon in elementary school, sitting on the dotted rug in the honey sun and just waiting. The combination of whatever scents were sprayed recently and Modern Muse must have become a concoction that resembled one of my teachers perfume and since scent and memory are closely linked, my brain just sent me back to 4th grade.

About a year later, after becoming more familiar with perfumes in general, I decided that I would give her another try and I am so very glad I did. She is one of the sweeter florals that I have and enjoy but she definitely smells like a flower kind of sweet (probably the honeysuckle) instead of candy like I find in most perfumes even though they are technically floral. She is just the right amount of present, lightly making herself known but not inflicting herself on those around you.

There is no age to her, though she is not much of a teenage fragrance. I could wear her to work or on a date or just casually. I think Modern Muse is a truly any time fragrance.

erbium

I am going to preface this review with the statement: I HATE patchouli. I actively avoid it in every perfume I buy as it becomes the only thing I smell and just does not develop well on my skin.

I received a rollerball of this from a subscription box and without looking at the notes, put it on. And wow.... this is a beautiful perfume. It is the epitome of class and sophistication while still feeling young and fresh at the same time. After I looked up the notes I was SHOCKED that this had patchouli in it & even after knowing it was supposed to be there, couldn't find my nemesis hiding in the dry-down. From start to finish Modern Muse was beautiful. So, to all my other patchouli haters out there.... give this one a chance & I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised!

Katryna G

This is an amazing perfume. Great longevity and sillage. Exudes confidence and strenght. I picture black-suited bussiness woman wearing it. High heels, ready to be amazing in whatever she does. Sweet white flowers and creamy deep sexy musk similar to Narcisos musk. Flowers used here all have sweet and juicy facets so it creates this flowery sweetness, very pleasant. Also it is very clean without feeling sterile. This fragrance is underrated and a bit overlooked in my opinion. I had Narciso For Her and do think they are similar though Modern Muse is better for me because is more airy and bright and has better longevity on my skin.

lmwimsatt

I really dislike this and dont see the relationship to narciso for her at all. I'm not saying I love narciso for her, but I think it's quite nice. But this modern muse... all I smell is chemicals, and not in a good way. Its not like I cant stand smelling it, it smells perfumey, but that's about it.

octobertragedy

I think this is a must try for all jasmine, tuberose and white flowers fans. I'm not necessarily a huge fan, but this is a fragrance that deserves much appreciation.
It's classy, strong and feminine. The notes of jasmine, honeysuckle and tuberose are very rich, almost natural and they seem to be perfectly blended with musk and mandarin. It reminds me a lot of NR Narciso (the white square bottle). Narciso is muskier, milkier and less floral, and more to my liking...
This is white flowers heaven, the notes of jasmine and tuberose create a beautiful image of spring, almost to the point of an overdose.
Incredibly huge sillage and amazing projection.

GinCatsBooks

Modern Muse was on my want list for 3 years and during the Christmas period I took full advantage of a promotion on a 50ml bottle and I'm glad I did!

Modern Muse was always a love at first sniff for me, whenever I went into a department store or drugstore which had an Estee Lauder concession, I would always spritz myself with this. When I first sprayed it, which was the first time in almost 3 years, it was like being reunited with an old friend, it made me feel so happy and optimistic, Modern Muse is very comforting, clean (but not stripped and sterile clean), almost unisex to my nose, it reminds me of a soap Lush sell called Sultana of Soap which is just one of the best scents in the world in my opinion!

Modern Muse opens up with a blast of tuberose, but not your typical punch-in-the-face tuberose, this one feels gentle, modern and creamy, the tuberose then settles and makes way for the rest of the notes; musks, some mandarin, honeysuckle, woodsy notes and vanilla, they all come at once, but it doesnt feel like an olfactive overload, its more like a symphony where all the notes blend together to create a harmonious, well blended fragrance that isnt too heavy but isnt boringly linear; its just the right balance.

Longevity of Modern Muse is very good, I remember getting ready for Christmas day at 9:00 am and by 8:pm when i was getting ready to shower and put my pyjamas on, I could still smell this lingering on me, the silage is soft, its close to skin, however, for me this isnt a deal breaker.

Will I repurchase in the future? definitely, its full of happy memories and its so comforting and versatile: dressed up for formal events or dressed down for casual daily wear, its never too much or too little <3

sugar&spice

Modern Muse is a lovely perfume with good lasting power...the combination of its standout notes of sparkling jasmine, hypnotic honeysuckle and airy musk is a divine olfactory symphony; singing in harmony throughout top, middle and base notes. I just want to smile and hug myself wearing this lovely perfume - an absolute joy!!

Phantomias

MM edp opens with fairly big white florals followed by musk. It's a well done modern fragrance, but not very original. MM is one of those "I've smelled this before" scents, so similar to a dozen other perfumes. SJP's Lovely isn't one of them, IMHO. Yes, both frags have a strong musk note, but Lovely also has a hideous lavender/patchouli note.
Lasting power is decent and sillage is modest, MM is work safe. After dry down MM is surprisingly unisex.
To sum it up: a good buy for those who like modern florals with a good bit of musk.

lulu169

this is a dupe for Narciso Rodriquez, SJP Lovely, Signature by Beckham and Berlin by Michalski. So if you own ony of them you dont need this.

A true jasmin perfume done with perfection. Look no further if you love jasmin scents that are not heady.

rumari47

I dismissed this perfume several years ago and I can’t remember why. The bottle? The scent itself? I decided to revisit because I saw that this “smells like Narciso Rodriguez for Her EDP.” which I adore. AND? I am very satisfied! I bought a 1.7 oz bottle and after wearing it today, I wish I went for the 3.4 oz. I got home and could smell the scent lingering in my bathroom where I had sprayed earlier today. As I climbed into bed I caught whiffs of the scent in my hair. It’s a lovely musky floral that is VERY similar to NR EDP and Lovely. Very long lasting

mevans

Opening with a light citrus, it's a bit floral and the musk and woody notes are noticeably there and keep it from being too girly. It develops into a sweet-ish, musky scent that stays for hours. This would work in an office but is also elegant enough for evening wear.

NoelleNice

I have come very late to discovering Modern Muse and its flankers. I’m pleased to now be acquainted with them. This is a very pleasant, inoffensive, musky white floral with a citrusy opening. On me if becomes a subtle and sophisticated ‘skin but better’ type scent. The most prominent floral note for me is the lily, but it’s an ever-so-slightly ‘dirty’ lily and jasmine accord on my skin alongside the very subtle but sweet patchouli (as opposed to a purely crisp or clean white floral). There is the faintest suede type hint I get on dry down, that isn’t listed in the notes, but is definitely there on my skin (perhaps my chemistry). To me this is beautifully blended. A feminine scent that would make anyone smell generically ‘lovely’. I can also imagine it is the sort of scent that someone could wear for almost any occasion - a versatile winner that would transcend seasons, times of day, and formality versus casualness. Overall this is very pretty, but I’ll probably never own full bottle, unless I happen upon one at a particularly good price.

LadyIva

Erm, nope. Surprisingly, it never occurred to me to try Modern Muse when it was first launched - and now that I've finally tried it, it's obvious that I haven't missed much. This is a typical sweet scent from the 2010s, halfway between Coco Mademoiselle and Flowerbomb. It contains very sweet patchouli and tangerine, some obviously artificial white-floral notes (mostly jasmine) and some white musk, and I'd swear there's also some vanilla or tonka in it, although these notes are not listed in the official scent pyramid. What it really reminds me of is - Naomi Campbell's eponymous first fragrance. I sniffed Modern Muse and i was like 'oh, here's Naomi Campbell all over again'...

gtabasso

an average sweet white floral on application with some musk; quickly fades and does have some cumin I think because you do get a little of that body musk in the base

floralscents88

blind bought this based on the positive reviews here. the initial floral blast is lovely no doubt but by drydown, there is a faint smell of sweaty BO(like armpit odour, if you know what I mean). on my wrist thats what i smell by drydown. I'm sure other people may disagree and it maybe a totally different experience for them. It's winter right now in new zealand, so i might try it again when summer comes and try it on clothing if it might be different and will update. But right now, its a no for me. I'd rather be without perfume than risk smelling of sweaty armpits.

UPDATE: summer day, 1 spray on clothes. I don't smell the BO anymore. But boy that 1 spray is quite strong and lingers for a long time. a powerhouse citrus floral scent, so spray with caution. it's still a no for me, that single spray alone got really overwhelming and cloying. my 10 yr old son told me "its quite strong mom and it gets in your nose and gets suffocating"(arms length away). so there you go.

DaturaD

This is one of the perfumes that i keep buying with no regret it is a very distinctive beautiful floral scent

therose7

I will always have this perfume. After wearing White Linen from my 20's I now wear this in my 50's. Sophisticated, fresh, classic, confident and wearable for anything. A really beautiful fresh white floral that is not sweet.

muckata_11

It's a gorgeous! For me is a mixture between Elie Saab Le perfume, Guerlain Idylle and maybe Narciso Rodriguez for Her ( pink bottle). I love it from the beginning to the end.

Inspired91

Jasmine, honeysuckle, musk, that's what I get. Extremely feminine. I don't understand the dislike for this, it makes me think of some sweet, beautiful girl walking in a field of flowers. I feel super girly (yet not in a childish way) when I wear it. Yeah it's not the most complex scent but sometimes simplicity is beautiful.

AnlisaC

I smell patch, patch and more patch on me me plus wood. It is one of my favorite classics. I always feel sophisticated when wearing this. Muse is great for evening or daywear. It kind of reminds me of a garden party where the women are wearing hats and drinking tea having lovely cucumber sandwiches. Oh maybe I’m saying this because it’s Kentucky Derby weekend, anyways..... I love Muse, Estée Lauder you are amazing. My Mom always got a fragrance on Mother’s Day from me her darling daughter. Sadly she’s passed away. She would’ve loves this one.

Muse in the dry down does get a bit spicy on me and the mandarin orange does come through. Longevity is ok at best on me. Spillage is pretty good. I do spray and walk through it to keep the scent on me.

I can also see this as a little black dress fragrance. Anyway, EL Muse you are so pretty I will always own you.

cookygirl

Hopevilla - I am wearing Modern Muse today and I also smell the leather. It's faint but it is there, relatively early in the dry down. I really love this fragrance. It's perfect for transitional weather.

Lotv73

We have been blessed with unseasonably warm weather this week. I have taken this opportunity to test spring/summer fragrances I got after the weather turned cold. I got this in the mini size as a gift with purchase from Estée Lauder. I could barely smell it in the cold weather. I’m trying it out today because it’s warm. What a surprisingly pretty fragrance it is! Now that I read the notes, I’m not surprised I love it. I’m looking forward to buying a full bottle when my mini runs out.

Sandra07

When i smell it for the first time, it's reminded me of my childhood when I hugged my mom. I don't know, it's just smells like Bvlgari Blv Pour Homme drydown's (did anyone think same thing?). Very nice n calming, love it.

Mistressvoodoodolly

Does anyone else smell a strong tea note?

hopevilla

Buckle up, this will be a long one.

So I have this grandmother... No! This is not the beginning of a "matronly" diatribe! My grandmother is unrelentingly chic - more than I will ever be. She has a talent for choosing clothes/patterns/colours/smells that seem random to the uninitiated but, upon closer examination, turn out to be masterpieces of class and originality.

One of the few things I have in common with this force of nature masquerading as a grandmother is a love for perfumes. We also both love white florals (although she seems to prefer creamy indolic tuberose, while I prefer green LOTV etc). Makes sense then that she frequently buys me a new scent for my birthday. This is how I discovered every single one of my favourite white floral smells. And I kind of resent her for it because, without fail, I always open the perfume package and have to hide my disappointment when I see a bottle that I have already tried and dismissed at my local perfume counter (or, even worse, havent tried but have decided against purely based on Fragrentica reviews/note profiles). Every year I think she's missed the mark but EVERY YEAR it turns out she saw (or rather smelled) something I had missed.

This year, she gave me Modern Muse. And I was like:

"Oh, yay, a boring floral from a house that peaked with Pleasures (just my personal view), in a pink (bleh) box and a stupid little bow. I'm pretty sure Fragenticans called this one 'Office Appropriate. What high praise..."

And now I love it. And, most importantly, I disagree with almost every review here.

Let me qualify that: I am most certainly not a "nose" and dont purport to be a scent savant. But I am enthusiastic and obsessed with smells, so it perturbs me when my take on a smell differs so vastly from other reviewers' takes.

Let me just say it. Honeysuckle and leather. Yes, you heard me, I smell leather. And no, I'm not getting confused with the flanker Modern Muse Chic - I tried it and get no leather from it. But in Modern Muse, a smell described as a boring but well-blended floral, I smell honeysuckle with a touch of gardenia hiding the smallest hint of leather. And not the faux leather of Tom Ford or Dior's Leather Oud. You see, I wear a lot of leather. I love leather. And I collect leather smells, but (shhh, unpopular opinion alert) none of them actually smell like real leather.

And yes, this perfume is well blended and inoffensive (although more unique than the word "inoffensive" makes it sound).

Now I am in a bit of a quandary, because I dont want my signature scent to be a something in a pink box that people more experienced than me dismiss as mainstream! But I keep reaching for it...

Damn. My grandmother wins again...

meg0825

A pretty jasmine and honeysuckle white floral with a citrusy opening and a musky base. While this is not among my favorite Estee Lauder fragrances, it is easy to wear. Definitely office friendly, just not a stand out in my opinion.

bartenderbabe

In the world of fragrances it is impossible to find something everyone likes. Modern Muse is about as close to a crowd pleaser you could ever hope to find. Completely at ease and unobjectionable, this little gem is the epitome of class, confidence, and enduring femininity. Modern Muse contains two different jasmine notes that blend seamlessly. That extra strain of jasmine takes this fragrance from ordinary to extraordinary...that little boost makes this perfume stand out in all the right ways. The honeysuckle is beautiful, and just the right dosage, playing the supporting actress while letting that top notch jasmine take center stage and shine. Long lasting and pleasant at all stages from first spray to dry down. I don’t understand why some reviewers find this to be geared toward s younger crowd...I detect no fruity or gourmand notes, if anything Modern Muse pays homage to the floral powerhouses of yore, without the powders and musks. Aptly named, because she is truly destined to be a modern classic.

annxyz

Uninspiring and another generic fruity floral that is nondescript to me. I see no real personality , just more watery fruit and flowers . This does not last long , but the bottle does not look as cheap as other Lauder scents.

Check out your old favorites and see if you recognize them without the labels.

annxyz

Uninspiring and another generic fruity floral that is nondescript to me. Probably appealing to very young ingenues...

annxyz

This one is not very uniqie to me . It could be a celebrity fragrance in my opinion. And I do love EL .

thecoffeeslayer

I was gifted a rollerball of this fragrance. I keep trying it & thinking "I Like it, but..."

I agree with those who say this is a nice, well balanced, white floral that would work well at the office. It's reserved in its throw, but not intimate. It is floral in a "petals" sort of way. It confuses me though. Normally my skin chemistry takes white florals to a heady place. This doesn't do that. I'm getting the sense that, perhaps, something like Iso E Super may have been used here.

I've been trying to layer it with other fragrances, but puts a damper on anything it's paired with. Strange, right? That said, it works fine on it's own. I'm keeping my rollerball for the office, but I'm not sure how much use it'll get.

mermaidylady

I purchased this back in 2015, and I really loved it. At the time, it was my signature scent. Classy and elegant, musky and creamy, with a noticeable jasmine note. I wore it almost exclusively during the fall and winter for the next two years, before deciding it was no longer a good fit for me and gifting the remainder of my bottle to a friend.

So, what changed? For starters, the jasmine started to become overpowering to my nose for whatever reason (I did become pregnant in 2016, perhaps that had something to do with it), and overall I was just unimpressed with the longevity. It's a really pretty, ladylike fragrance, but poor performance compared with other perfumes that captured my attention. I think I got around maybe 4 hours with this, versus 8+ with the fragrances I moved on to. The drydown in this perfume is just lovely, pity it doesn't last longer.

1stclass

Beautiful, classy, elegant.
However I think Morden muse was reformulated a year later to accommodate for Morden muse chic. Morden muse lost its intensity and Morden muse chic gained it all.
I still got my bottle from 2013, the scent is the exact same as Morden muse chic.
Morden muse did change a little since 2014. So if I were to repurchase, I would have to go with Morden muse chic.
The highs and lows of the fragrance industry.

AmaranthRose

This fragrance is my sexy, all dressed in black, better watch out, weapon...lol extremely sensual, not too musky, It's a floral scent, but not too girly...it's more of an night blooming Jasmine type with hints of soft musk scent. Clean, and not cloying, evening scent....like I said, It's my got to scent.

Stella Bu

For me this is a very seductive, "diva" perfume :)
When you want to stay "clean" but in the same time very sexy and ellegant woman, choose this ! it´s classic, very charming ...for any age after 22 :)
I am a singer and performer and usually wearing this perfume during my night concerts - the best is to put it right after, mixed with my skin full of adrenaline and then going to meet my family and friends and other people who congratulate you and you just feel awesome with the cloud of this masterpiece...black dress...nacked kneck...little wind in your hair...
ohhh
just love it:)
sexy
night
scent :)

tinkerbelllx

Estee Lauder does NOT dissapoint with this perfume. On my skin this is a soft, powdery, floral scent. The jasmine note is front and center. The dry down, is all about that Madagascar vanilla note. This is a beautiful scent. I absolutely love this perfume.

vgedin

I think this perfume suffers from its own perfection.

Imagine a woman in a perfectly tailored dress, wearing an immaculate French bun, without a strand out of place. A sharp jawline, a straight posture. What do you see? Perfection. There is nothing wrong with it. But the heart always demands a streak of madness, something thats a window into who she is. A red lipstick, perhaps. A bright scarf that demands attention. Whatever it takes.

This is exactly whats missing in Modern Muse. This is a perfume that is blended with an almost clinical precision, not a thing out of place. And that is certainly something to be appreciated. But that's just it --beyond that, Modern Muse has little to offer in terms of character.

Modern Muse Chic scores a hit with the plum note. J'adore works a charm with the pear and the lily. Even Gucci Bamboo shows some spark with the ylang-ylang and sandalwood.

Modern Muse EDP, unfortunately, offers no charisma to justify the use of the word "muse". It is masterful perfumery, but uninspired.

It is ideal to be worn for work if applied with the light hand, if you don't want to actively draw attention. Even if this perfume gets noticed, you're more likely to receive a compliment than a snort.

Having said that, Estee Lauder doesn't compromise when it comes to quality. The ingredients are great quality, the musk is beautifully done, projection and longevity are spectacular.

Maryxcontrary

To me, Modern Muse and SJP's lovely smell very similar.
Modern Muse however is a better blended fragrance and its main accords are Jasmine and musk.
Its classy and suitable for any mood or occasion and sits close to the skin
My own issue is it doesnt habe great longevity and l really dislike the atomizer.
I might give Modern Muse Chic a try after my bottle finishes though as it is a beautiful and inoffensive perfume

Tantimarlianneta

Modern muse is one of my fave perfume, i think the floral notes and musk blend so perfectly and leave fresh and clean feeling on my skin.

A couple year before try this perfume i was wearing Jlo still and i think they are similar but more floral in modern muse.

meow78

From the notes, this seems like it would be similar to Gucci Bloom (which I have and am obsessed with). It is, but it’s not as special on me - where Bloom is creamy but still fresh, floral but still warm and oh, so sexy blooming in the Summer, this is more conventional and office-friendly, like how Beautiful did tuberose in the 90’s. It’s not bad, but suffers from comparison for me.

piahellgren

A lovely white floral, much, much better than its reputation. I adore most of the Narcisos, really adore, but the original black For Her edt is the one I like the least. THIS one is what that Narciso wants to be! This one is bright and almost bubbly, which is not very common when this much jasmin is used. Its got a green pick-me-up factor coming from the lily and the mandarin. Honeysuckle keeps it from being too animalic, but there is an animalic aspect, just balanced enough so that this is work friendly. Its also grounded and not fleeting, in fact it lasts a long time on me. Its very sophisticated, smart and still friendly and soft. It's super versatile and the musk IS amped up, but not clean and fabric softener like, yet not skanky. Its less sweet than the aforementioned Narciso, less sour than Lanvin Rumeur (new version) and more distinct than Idylle- all three cousins of this one. But this one wins the competition. Mandarin softens the lily and there is not a drop too much of lily, thank you very much. Extremely classy fragrance. Dry amber and I smell no vanilla.

tacet

I've read a lot of other reviews about how Modern Muse is boring or derivative, and this was completely how I felt at first. I bought this as a blind buy for prom in my last year of high school, and I was underwhelmed, regretted not getting the flanker, Le Rouge Gloss, which makes me think a little of Loverdose.

After wearing it for a whole summer, and then looking back on it now, I think it's actually a very well-made perfume, and really hard to forget.

It's fresh, floral, and absolutely not soapy or powdery. It makes you feel like you're wearing water, but without any synthetic notes. It's just nothing like similar ditzy florals, and it really has staying power in your head. I don't really know how to describe it, but it makes "white floral" into something completely different.

That being said, I would disagree about this being an "office" scent. Is it inoffensive and sophisticated? Yes. Does it smell anything like a muse? No. Modern Muse is more like that really innocent underage girl you absolutely can't have sex with. It also doesn't have a lot of musk or longevity. You're lucky if you get a couple hours out of it.

AmyX

I loved this when I sampled it in stores. I tried this scent in stores at least 3 times before buying a small bottle. Now that it’s home (and it’s been over a month) I’m not so sure anymore. I smell a bit too much sandalwood in the top notes - does that make any sense? Once it dries down, it’s much better. Florals came through, though I still keep smelling wood(s). But for some reason, I got strong sandalwood or cedarwood or something at first. A more mature scent, to be sure, but not that mature; I’d say, 35 year old woman with a good job in a good place in her life. For some reason, I envision a single NYC elegant powerful woman in a business suit with a pencil skirt. Powerful, elegant, pretty but not very specific - floral orangey scent that’s workplace-safe.

Starlett_Sexton

This would be a really good summer scent. It’s a beautiful fragrance, very light and musky. I’ll enjou this this summer.

PricklyAndHot

The notes pyramide has so much beautiful white florals, but the fragrance is rather musky.

Not my type.

sandrajj

Well, this is a surprise! I purchased Modern Muse a few years ago, and it was a blind buy. My reaction to it was a resounding "Meh!" So I sold it on Ebay. Yesterday I was gifted a 1.7 oz bottle of the Eau de Parfum from Estee Lauder, included with my hefty purchase Online. After morning shower I thought I'd give it another go. And as I said, this was certainly a surprise! This is absolutely beautiful! I'm still amazed. Who knew?? Get yourself a bottle today!

rola.asad

I'm out of this perfume for nearly 3 months now, and I really missed it, I need to buy a new one!!
A lovely jasmine musky scent.

iamoir

The more fragrances I test from Modern Muse line the more I am convinced that my favorite is Chic. Modern Muse, the initial release comes right after. It just has a less intense character than Chic.

Maybe it's because I love florals, mostly white florals, and not only, mainly tuberose and jasmine, honeysuckle, gardenia, and I'm never saying no to a lily, the calla lily and the lily of the valley. This would sound as a headache inducing white floral fragrance.

Fear not: in Modern Muse the floral heart stays true to what it states without becoming what you would name "screechy white floral" , it is therefore : "modern". And if anyone would still insist that it's "grandma perfume", well I'm sorry, but they are too damn narrow minded.

After a completely indifferent opening that did remind me of acetone at times, here comes the array of all white florals: jasmine, honeysuckle, lily of the valley, lily, tuberose, gardenia(?) somewhere behind. There is also a lot of greeness holding these florals; you would call it a floral green. It could be the patchouli. There are woodsy tones as well.

It does get headier as time passes, only to start fading after four hours when it will be felt only from close to skin; it will eventually fade. Reminds me of Diorissimo. Then of Tuberose Gardenia. Then of London (another underrated classic...). Can't get enough of this bottled spring.

An absolutely lovely, lady-like, classic floral, beautiful and polished. Appropriate for any occasion I believe and will enhance every look. I think I might need her along with the Chic sister.

As for the comparison with Chic, as I see them voted as similar scents, I would add that Chic is centered around tuberose with a suede background, which is what differentiates her from MM. They are close. But one you smell Chic you will be able to tell them apart. Also, MM is more lush while Chic is dry.

mapache

Underrated scent, IMHO.
The beginning is honeysuckle/jasmine/pale tuberose...touch of orange. These florals are all balanced and held up by the patch/amber/woodsy/vanilla. This scent was a complete surprise for me, NEVER expected to like it at all. But through the first test, then a full-wear of this, I was smitten..then hooked. Usually NOT my cup of tea type scent. Never say never...lol.
Medium projection and sillage, but somehow you are still aware of it after a long while...???...
Great,safe everyday scent. Yum !!!

Gekons

On of the few fragrances I can not describe. It is heavily feminine, it sits on the skin like a warm velvet. I feel musk, amber, dark flowers. There is some herb, may be cardamom. I think I like it. Not for very young audience I am sure.

kc4116

This scent wears well in the fall and winter. However, the generic "flower petal" note becomes suffocating. I found that this fragrance did not evolve or develop over a few hours, which is something I require or else the scent becomes irritating and obtrusive to my nose.

I have a 1.0 FL OZ bottle of original Modern Muse Eau de Parfum that is 1/2 full. Purchased in 2015.

PM me to TRADE for something of equal value. US ONLY. Perhaps a small travel size bottle or two.

amygirl

Estee Lauder is trying to make this their perfume for younger audiences, both with the packaging (which is beautiful!) and in their spokeswomen they have chosen to promote the perfume. I just don't get youthfulness and modernity when I smell this. It smells floral with a lot of musk to it. But it's not really a sweet musk, it almost smells like salt or a bit of savory flavor. It's very unique, but for some reason I just can't jump on board with this being a very modern perfume. However this perfume is making me believe that perfume should have no age and if a fifteen year old girl smells this from a perfume counter and loves it then they should absolutely wear it! Perfume really has no age or gender, if you like florals with sophisticated musk then girl wear this!

ycv1104

I received a large sample and its just sweet and not overpowering like youth dew

Aviana Verene

I love this so much. The honeysuckle is realistic and beautiful. Its musky and animalic in the drydown, which is exactly what I was hoping for by the notes. This is everything I wished the entire NR line would be. Unfortunately, I cannot wear it. There is something about musk/patchouli/citrus (and maybe + certain white florals) that turns sharp on my skin. I had the same problem with NR for her (in the black bottle) and Coco Mad. If they just left the citrus out of this, it would likely become my signature scent. I'll probably hang on to my sample to see if I can layer it with something that will make it less sharp, that's how much I love it.

ETA: Something happened when I stopped eating gluten: this fragrance stopped turning sharp on my skin. Hurray!!!

CopperBlue

On me this is a weak musk scent along the lines of Narciso Rodriguez, but without any really outstanding floral component. Just a woody musk that fades within a few hours. I prefer Le Rouge flanker as that is more interesting than this one.

LoreleiBluebird

Really full on musk for me, yes there's plenty of jasmine, but the musk kills it. But that's probably just me, I'm very sensitive to musks. So an avoid for anyone similarly sensitive.

Fleur divina

It’s a full on jasmine perfume, so if you love jasmine, you will love it! Slowly it dries down to a pleasant floral. However, this by far is not a unique scent. If you are looking for a good quality jasmine perfume, then your search ends here. More than Narciso Rodriguez for Her, I found the scent similar to Narciso Rodriguez Poudree when I spray initially, but the dry down is not as powdery woody as Poudree but more white floral.

michelle.schlossman

I'm decluttering this from my collection so I wanted to review it first. All I get from this is citrus and the longetivity is poor. I paired it with a vanilla scented body lotion to make it more to my liking. It vaguely reminds me Light Blue. I don't see anyone else making that comparison so it makes me wonder if I had a bad bottle. The bottle itself is cute and classy I think. I wish I would have liked the scent
Update: I had to come back and update this because I really didn't give this one enough credit. I got rid of it and then realized I missed it and bought another one! It is the perfect scent for office/ daytime or anytime you want to smell classy and feminine. The more I wear it the more I appreciate the soft jasmine notes.

_christine_

The roller ball has none of the citrus if the spray. The roller starts with a blast of jasmine and stays as a light white floral throughout the drydown. It's pleasant but not unique. There are lots of jasmine-dominate florals.

This is okay. It's not a favorite and I won't replace it when the rollerball is empty.

WhiteVelvet

The Estee Lauder Modern Muse line is lovely.
I like them all so far. Modern, classy and elegant.
My favorite is the Le Rouge edition. I have always liked this brand. It was my passed on mums favorite brand of cosmetic and perfumes.
Not my favorite brand, but certainly one of them.
If you have not tried these and love fragrance. You should.

FloatingOphelia

I was looking for a fall fragrance and this could just be it. I hate to describe this as floral patchouli its more than that... Its the last of the summer flowers in bright autumn light as the leaves change. Its your first wearing of cashmere or knit. Its time for apple cider but not yet Halloween. Sweet, earthy, floral and slightly musky. Similar to SJP Lovely but prettier and more delicate.
I can say this perfume deserves its name. Its classic yet modern. I really love this.

SailorV

Modern Muse starts with classic, creamy white flowers, most noticeable a naturalistic jasmine.
Unfortunately, on my skin musk and patchouli start to push the flowers to the background as soon as they come in and develope a very sharp and intense smell. I do get the comparison to Narciso Rodriguez, it's a similar kind of musk. A hint of honeysuckle is the only remainder of the florals that can stand up to it.
It's not the first time I have this problem with musk/patchouli combos, my skin amplifies them when there are not enough warm or sweet notes to tame them. The scent luckily stays close to the skin, but only calms down after many hours. I noticed that it was better outside in the wind, but I for sure don't need a fragrance specifically for outdoor situations on windy days.

As the flowers in the beginning, the honeysuckle note in the background and the final skin scent after 9 hours are beautiful, I would guess this could be a very nice floral perfume for others, but sadly, not for me.
If you're picky with musks, just be careful while testing this and beware from blind buying.

pasha

Everyone says it smells similar or extremely similar to this or that other perfume, but I personally think this smells very similar to Elie Saab Le Parfum.

The jasmine is the EXACT same accord. They must be using the same lab. The honey substitute here is the honeysuckle which is basically the-less-sweet-more-floral clean honey. I also smell that fresh orange blossom you'll find in Le Parfum in Modern Muse, but perhaps I confuse that note with the lily that is ostensibly listed in the pyramid next to the other nondescript flowery whateverness.

Aside from that, I detect no tuberose or real musk here. None. If there is some muskiness, I suppose it is a very very sterile one that my nose cannot quite decipher. Hence the reason why I cannot quite see the parallel between this one and Narciso Rodriguez which is of course musk all the way up and out.

Really luminous and lush, just like Elie Saab. Perhaps younger and more carefree. I really like her, because she is elegant, feminine, and modern w/o resorting to that nowadays much too common 'sweetness'.

malindajoquinn

A nice enough warm floral. Doesn't make as much of a statement as I wish it did. Very soft. The lasting power is not great, and the sillage is nothing spectacular. Very skin-like, an easy fragrance to throw on.

tunedn2harmony

Out of the like, 50 perfumes I've sampled this summer, I definitely would describe this one as smelling the most "feminine"

Beadvised

With the first spray it's a blast of citrus. No worries though the dry down settles into a peaceful warm floral.

dglightblue

This is a very nice jasmine type white floral. I'm not sure I can identify tuberose, I'm not attuned to it yet, this lasts a long time, much longer on fabric.
This is a winter test.
I've tried this before and thought oh no another white floral. But, out of the many white florals if it works on you like it does on me, then it's a good buy. I get good spillage and pretty good longevity.
It doesn't go bitter on me, where Michael kore glam jasmine does. These two start out pretty similar in feel and scent.

I know some people think this type of fragrance is a bit old, I don't agree.
I can't pick out the other accords as moy nose needs more practice.

It is very similar to m muse chic, chic has a fruit opening and goes a bit like the m muse dry down. You might not need both in that case.
It is not like m muse Le rouge, nor m muse rouge.

I should really try these side by side.

From my perfumes similar ones might be:
Michael by Michael kors, the one with the suede look stripe on the box, taupe colour.
Agent provocateur petals noir which is much more quiet and 'dusty'
Agent provocateur mistress which isn't as fresh as m muse. It's more 'dirty'.
Jimmy Choo flash, slightly, the white floral edge is of the fresher clearer kind, all else is different.
It's blended in a smooth way as Chloe love, but the scent is different.
Prada d'iris absolute and prada de oranger are a different type of floral all together.
M muse is clear, wet almost. The prada kind seem dry in comparison.

Contessa01

I totally agree with reviewer pekoee - I'm not sure why everyone is snelling musk. This isn't musky. It's a orange tuberose jasmine floral. It's quite nice. If you like classic florals try this.

Thank you zipporahh for the beautiful bottle of modern muse!! I feel lucky! I love this perfume! It's very addicting! A great compliment getter and still , imo, unique! It opens with a sweet waxy Lily, honey suckle and ripe , clean-ish Jasmine and what smells like strawberry on my skin. Later patch and musk appear and it ends with ambery woods. It's sweeter than I remember. I tested it years ago when it first came out. I remember thinking it was to mature and sharp for me at the time. Now it blows my mind;) Heady. Sweet, musky, full bodied, long lasting perfume with great sillage! I don't want to be without a bottle ever! It can be worn year round and in Just about every occasion.

zipporahh1986

I don't like it. The lily and honeysuckle is very heavy on my skin. For me, it's too sweet and very headache inducing. I have a 3.4 oz bottle if anyone wants to do a trade.

This jasmine based perfume is a white-flower beauty. Tasteful and very true to the flower notes. On my skin it doesn't get too sharp, it stays soft with a hint of sweetness (which is not overpowering and doesn't get heavy). Lovely creation from Estee Lauder, very wearable if you are a fan of white-flower perfumes.

I discovered this fragrance while working at Estee Lauder while I was 21 and in college. I was granted a free bottle, which has lasted me about 2 years now. The first thing that comes to mind about Modern Muse is professionalism, and being a modern woman in society today. When I wear it to a job interview or the office, I feel feminine but sophisticated, lady-like yet powerful. It's not a very playful scent to me, it's more like a "take charge and get down to business while looking really sexy" kind of scent, and as a Capricorn, I respect that. Overall, it's one of my favorite scents, and I'm terribly afraid to smell the other scents in the line because I know I will probably get hooked on those too. Bravo to Estee Lauder for creating the perfect scent for the modern professional woman.

chinook

The jasmine & wood combination makes this a safe choice to wear in the office, but the patchouli in the dry down makes me smell like a dirty hippie. I only wear 1 spritz, so I like to assume I'm the only one who thinks I'm a dirty hippie at the office. It's a secret between me & myself.
Top note is mostly jasmine. Base note is mostly patchouli. It's somewhat loud on the skin and longevity is pretty good. Pleasant but not too imaginative, which might be a good thing depending on the occasion. Good for serious settings.

Oh dear... I think I may have fallen in love again.

Thank God I'm not as easily swayed by men as I am by perfumes, or who knows how I'd end up!!

I've teetered on the edge of liking the whole Narciso Rodriguez/Lovely/Idylle type musky-patchouli floral for a while. They always ended up being either too sweet, too sour, or too quiet for me.

This one however... Oh boy.

It really reminds me of those old school white florals like Fracas and Jardins de Bagatelle that just sweep you off your feet. Modern Muse is in no way old fashioned, though, not at all!

It is a sleek, modern confection, with a dusky, almost autumnal feel to it. The usual brightness of Lauder's flowery perfumes has been turned down exactly halfway, and the smooth musky woods just peek in behind, like a handsome companion with his arm around your waist.

Love it! My new fall fragrance!

CherryBlossom

Dear Andreab969, you are so rigth!... I have Le Panthere Edp and Modern Muse Edp, so I layared the first one on the second one and they smell lovely together. Thanks for share this advice.

orangepekoe

I don't see where people see all this musk? This is not a musk perfume. This is extremely floral and the tuberose and orange are very pronounced.

Blytheaar

My daughter gave me an Estée Lauder mini set for my birthday that includes Modern Muse. I've worn it twice now, and on me it is just a pretty, non-descript floral. Nice enough I guess but not really my style. On me the longevity is average - I was still catching traces of it in the afternoon (I sprayed it on in the morning before work) but by the evening it was completely gone. My husband sometimes likes florals in me but he was kind of meh on this one. Nothing about it tempts me to spring for a full size bottle, but I'll use the mini one.

Andreab969

This is insane but I had Cartier La Panthere on since this morning... still had skin scent. Decided I wanted to "play" with my collection. I layered "Modern Muse" on "La Panthere" and BAM! Crazy good combination! Crazy beastly beautiful result. I'll shower and try it again in moderation... and see if my delight in this strange combo stays true. I'll have to "sleep it off" though because the combo scent has me in its grip! It's NOT going to wash off that easy lol. I feel like a walking talking wedding bouquet!

The older I become, the more I enjoy wearing Estee Lauder fragrances. There have been many new releases from this house that I have missed in recent years, so the last few months I have begun to back-track and test all Estee Lauder scents on my radar. Modern Muse was for me a must-try.

Modern Muse is incredibly musky. I think this is the first fragrance from Estee Lauder that has fully embraced the white musk accord. Despite the fact that Modern Muse smells more like a Narciso Rodriguez perfume than an Estee Lauder scent, I quite enjoy this new take from the brand.

This fragrance is more of a clean and demure musk than a dirty one. The musk is softened by a crisp, feminine jasmine and lily blend that strikes me as being very classical and elegant.

Unfortunately Modern Muse doesn't wear as well on my skin as it does on the card. On paper this fragrance is deliciously smooth, floral and musky, however on my skin the floral notes all but vanish leaving a sharp, laundry musk accord. In terms of longevity Modern Muse also lasts better on paper than it does on my skin. I got approximately 2-3 hours wear out of this fragrance with little to no projection.

I cannot stress enough the importance of trying this fragrance on your skin before purchasing. Like any musk based perfumes they can be very reliant on skin chemistry. There may also be the issue of being anosmic to certain musks in this fragrance which is not uncommon.

I've already reviewed modern muse, well forget about,I just don't delete it so that you can see that an almost "meh" first impression can grow to a strong love in less than a month.now I'm in love with modern muse head to hills
I didn't find it similar to Narciso Rodriguez for her edp.I still don't find them similar but, maybe I have to give another try to NR for her edp.recently I found out that the scent that I remember as pink NR and hate is,actually belongs to l'eau version which may be because I usually dislike strong lily of the valley note.I have to try NR for her edp again after two years and if it actually smells very much like modern muse but a muskier version as a lot of reviews suggest,I may love that one even more
Callisa's bluesky hits the point and I definitely agree with her, most white florals turn to something creamy but modern muse remain very crisp and fresh, actually it's so crisp that I thought it has green apple as a dominant note.I like creamy white florals but this crispness is something unique that I can't get enough of it.it's heavenly
At first I thought jasmine and tuberose aren't as strong as I expected.yes, because I was looking for different type of them(perhaps an alien-ish jasmine or fracas-ish tuberose)now I still pick up honeysuckle as a dominant note and lily,a bit lighter but I also detect very beautiful sambac jasmine and a very light, almost green tuberose
It doesn't change much but this flower bouquet appears so beautifully and natural that I really don't want it to change.it's not even a bit boring for me and I easily get bored.changes in notes look small but are deep.drydown is a muskier, deeper.it still has it's adorable crispness also has a sensual warmness.all in all it's a Musky floral, but I can somehow feel that there's a touch of patchouli and woods in it too.not strong enough to freak out patchouli haters
Modern muse is an ageless, timeless modern floral that can be a memorable classic.it's so well blended, well balanced, sensual, elegant, sophisticated, easy to wear and high quality that I believe I can wear it for all occasions that I can think of.it's a pure floral that I know couple of floral-haters who love it!and yes,I'm adding it to my top favorites.it could even be a signature for me
Longevity is out of this world.usually white florals last more than other perfumes on me but I can't name many perfumes that last more than 12 hours!it's a soft scent, delicate, mild, whatever you call it,but not wear.I sprayed one spray on my chest, one on my neck and one on each of my wrists 10 hours ago and it's soft, lovely scent still wafts around me so that I can smell it even without sniffing my wrist.it has great projection and is soft at the same time
Would I repurchase it?considering repurchase of a perfume happens for less than 1/20 of my collection and about modern muse I'd say:definitely yes.I need to have it always and forever but I'd also love to try it's flankers.so if I finish my bottle I may first consider buying modern muse chic to replace it(in case it's enough similar,I don't know yet)
Long story short:I love this clean, beautiful, feminine scent.make sure to try it with sample or decant not just trying in perfume shops.it may seem too simple and safe in a single test.it needs time to grow on you

Callisa'sBlueSky

Modern Muse is my first Estee Lauder perfume and I am pleasantly surprised! The bottle caught my eye, after some testing I bought a full bottle.

This is a white floral, yet somehow it differs from other white florals. Most of the white florals that I have encountered flows into a creamy scent, where Modern Muse stays beautifully crisp and fresh. I smell lily and honeysuckle which is a nice surprise because normally my skin seems to make honeysuckle disappear. This is strong yet delicate in some way. Sadly I do not get as much jasmine as some people seem to get, but I still enjoy the soapiness from the lily with the unique sweetness from the honeysuckle.

Overall it stays pretty linear and one dimensional on my skin, the dry down is the same as the opening with a bit more musk to round the perfume off. That is not a problem though, once in a while you want something that is simple and beautiful. Something that adds effortless elegance to your day, not an enticing olfactory mystery that demands your attention. Modern Muse is a well done modern white floral, I find it a very unique and enjoyable scent. It is elegant enough to wear on nights out, classy enough for office wear yet feminine enough for daily casual wear. A beautiful all-rounder that suits every aspect of the modern woman's life. Modern Muse is a very strong “like” for me, simplistically elegant.

BihterAnneBoleyn

This smells exactly like NR for her edp except this one is less powdery, I did not test it on my skin but on paper it does smell really similar to NR for her edp and i LIKED it. I will go to sephora and test it on my skin I hope it lasts longer than NR.

raiza1990

i just smelled tuberose, from beginning to end on this perfume. It reminded me of McQueen Eau de Parfum, but this one is more modern. It is slightly sweet, classy and feminine, a nice one to have if you like tuberose, i am just not very impressed with it.
Longevity is medium and it sits close to the skin.

skyelightfetish

Very pleasant, very noticeable yet completely inoffensive floral, with quite a bit of depth and a soft musky drydown.

Better on my skin than on paper.

Feels (feels, not smells) like a modern version of Pleasures, with the very old-lady lily of the valley of the latter replaced by a more general white floral, maybe even with a hint of rose. It's actually weird to smell a fragrance that's fairly loud and yet neither idiotic nor erotic nor weird.

Very clean, very American, sexually repressed yet feminine, makes me think of a mum with a blonde bob, an office job, a house in the suburbs, well groomed in a very invisible way and probably uses a douche.

Good for a room scent, not good for my self.

Starlett_Sexton

I love Mordern Muse Edp my bottle is from the original launch yr (2013) so I haven't tried the current but I'd be pretty sure it's already gone through a reformulation this to me isn't a heavy scent at all it has staying power and last pretty good on my shirt and last a good 4 hours on my skin I do get Jasmine lots of orange and kind of a tea note than just lots of musk i normally don't go for scents like this with the orange note being so upfront and in control but It's Estée Lauder for goodness sake they do it with perfection!!! Just lovely, Star

RhodeC

I didn't expect to have strong opinions about this one, but I really love it. I will be buying a bottle based on using my little tester 3 times just to make sure. I like it better every time. It has a citrus start, and a floral/woody dry-down that really lasts. The floral notes are not sweet or cloying. Maybe it is my body chemistry, but I feel like this formulation lasts much longer than most department store fragrances. It has just enough muskiness to give it a hint of sensuality without being too strong for the office. Unlike a lot of reviewers, I would wear this at night and in the cooler months.

Soofiya

Estee lauder modern muse is far from my imaginations maybe because I expected it to be a jasmine dominant version of pink Narciso Rodriguez but fortunately I can't see even slightest hint of similarity between this one and pink Narciso (I hate pink Narciso and I'm always looking for it's DNA to avoid it in perfumes) it's very strange that a lot of people see them similar, there's no dirty rosey peachchouli here, nothing sharp, heavy, dirty or cloying
The funny point is,it's not also very jasmine dominant to my nose.I tried it several times from different bottles both on my skin and paper and the result was the same
Ofcourse there's jasmine in it,but not as a dominant note such as in alien or calvin Klein beauty.lily and honey suckle seem to be stronger here but the most dominant note for me is general white florals.flowers are soft and fresh and never become sharp or heavy.although it's mostly about white flowers,it doesn't appear as something overly flowery like classic florals.I can smell a breeze of fruity freshness all through it's life.it must be mandarin but I can also smell something apple-like.it's like cool and crisp freshness that only a green apple can provide
As it dries down musk comes out and it's exactly my favorite type of musk.it's soft and clean and very feminine.I can't detect tuberose, patchouli, amber and vanilla as separate notes.it dries down to a clean and gentle musky white floral with a hint of subtle woods
It can be very useful and versatile.it's safe and none aggressive enough for work place and elegant enough for dates and formal occasions
Longevity is impressive while sillage is soft to moderate. I sprayed it in the morning and I can smell it faintly late at night, more than 12 hours!! I never expected such a Longevity for something this delicate
I like it's freshness and feminity.simple, clean and beautiful.but it's not a love or something that I find very intresting
Gonna decide about buying it or not in spring, for now it's 3.5 out of 5
❤❤❤

I like it. It's strong yet subtle. Floral nearly soapy on my skin. I don't personally agree that it is reminiscent of either NR or SJP. But of course we all bring different things out in our fragrances. I do own and adore both of those however. This, on me, perhaps it's just my skin but I find the white floral and tea note (I know not listed) to be the most noticeable. Modern Muse is like a better quality up market version of Agent Provocateur Fatale Pink. Very elegant. It's modern but I think perhaps timeless.

savageinstrangeland

This had been on my test list for so long and I never got around to testing it. I ran across a super good deal (Two bottles sealed in special edition travel exclusive box with a 100 ml EDP & .68 oz travel EDP for 49 bucks) I couldn't pass it up so I threw caution to the wind and snapped it up. Let me tell you, I have no regrets! It's feminine and classy. Soft yet still powerful enough for others to smell a few feet away. Excellent quality! Ultimately, it's a nice, clean, fresh musky- floral to have in my collection.

It's nothing totally groundbreaking or earth shattering as far as uniqueness, but it's quite beautiful. I can understand the comparison to SJP Lovely but this one is stronger, smells much more refined and has the better lasting power and silage you'd expect from EL. Infact, silage is absolutely monstrous for the first two hours, the third hour a arms length, then it settles into a skin scent that is detectable at intimate distance for many more hours to come. It reminds me of a cross between SJP Lovely and NR in the way that it is unapologetically feminine white floral. It wasn't the best on my skin in the dead of winter when I bought it, but I have been a OG in the perfume game long enough to know when I am going to LOVE something in another season. Modern Muse will be perfect for spring events. I wouldn't wear this before April or after September, but this will be my Jam spring-summer!

I am not usually a huge fan of EL scents to be totally honest, but this one I wanted to try and I'm glad to have found it at a price I felt safe to blind buy at. Floral lovers should have no reason at all to dislike this. I think I'm going to check out its flankers as well like, Chic & Le Rouge!

madame_plumeria

I don't think I've ever come across a perfume with a name suiting the fragrance so well.

Modern Muse smells like class.

It is soft, feminine and romantic but by no means weak. It is potent and powerful but not overpowering.

I get lovely soft jasmine and white roses with subtle musk in the background.

Beautiful!

Very good lasting power... around 8h.

Overall 8/10

Tosia

This is a lovely and and intriguing scent, light and airy. I definitely think the name is apt; if a muse had a smell it would be this! It smells like pure beauty. I love it and it gets a lot of compliments! I think it's quite a young scent.

scatterheart

A more floral Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely. It's clean, feminine, young, refined, and inoffensive. Imparts an elegant lightness. To me, Estee Lauder comes across as a rather conservative and non-envelope-pushing brand, so I wasn't expecting very much from this, to be honest. But I was pleasantly surprised.

turtle91

This has an old lady smell like Narciso Rodriguez and Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely. My comment might get deleted since it's a negative review.

SparrowLight1

This scent, for me, is named very well. It is primarily a white floral perfume, which evokes a sense of the glamorous, powerful woman who could inspire many. But at the same time, there is a crisp, almost aquatic undertone that, to my nose, smells undeniably modern. Before my sample ran out (tragedy!) I wore this perfume when I wanted to feel womanly, sophisticated, and sexy in a way that wasn't too "available." A chic, reserved, but powerful white floral. Great lasting power (6 hr+) and quality, and a fairly large sillage on me.

ElleNell

All I can say really it smells almost if not identical to Sarah Jessica Parker-lovely. A nice enough fragerance all the same but just not for me. This would suit any woman 25 upwards. I can see a well put together, classy smart lady wearing this.

crea11

Smells just like jasmine green tea! Lovely and delicate

mishlava3000

Modern Muse. I really wanted to love this perfume.

The name invokes passion and intrigue, and certainly the flowers deliver a passionate and bright sensory experience but I keep picking up a synthetic note here which gives me pause. Its definitely a pretty perfume and the mandarine makes my mouth water a little, still I wish that mysterious chemical note would dissappear.

I dont get the comparisons with NR, which I absolutley adore. Every nose and skin composition is different though I guess! I prefer MM Chic for its warm woodiness.

Overall it is a flatteringly feminine floral with good lasting power.

********

Update: Several compliments on MM and a request for the name. Obviously this is a crowdpleaser!

elpidamarini

Such a lovely perfume!..Trully feminine and elegant!..A breath of fresh jasmine mainly along with the warmth of amber and a very soft touch of vanilla. Very well balanced, which makes it already a classy and classic choice. One of my favorite perfumes with a distinctive mark, yet not ''loud'' at all!!!!

marianne76

I can't stop smelling it. I use it for work in the office. Longevity is ok. Smells professional, not overpowering. Good to use in small spaces. Makes me feel sophisticated and successful.

Lilium86

I've tried it today but on me it's like fresh polish... no no :(

etternax

This is a straight forward jasmine fragrance. It has a hint of the more rare Sambac jasmine but is mainly the regular white jasmine. However, it is a well-made fragrance. The ingredients are of fine quality and smell very natural, almost too natural to the extent that this might be a fragrance that you would prefer to smell in a room from a candle or diffuser rather than on a person.

I am a fan of jasmine-based fragrances, but this one is not for me. While I like that it smells so natural, it is a bit too bitter and green of a jasmine for my liking. You smell the patchouli alright along with jasmine. It is somehow linear, but still a white floral goodness.

Seasons: Summer/Spring
Longevity: 8+ hours
Projection: Good

White Flowers With A Honeysuckle

A Silver Moon Beam On Jasmine

This is a very well composed white floral fragrance with more floral goodness than Alien by Thierry Mugler which shares similar notes if anyone's noticed: jasmine, amber, woods. This perfume is not as obnoxious as Alien but it has a rich fullness that exudes confidence and maturity while also seemingly bright, sweet and airy. Wear this if you like Madonna's Truth Or Dare. This opens with a citrusy mandarin orange and it's fresh but fades quickly. The scent develops from citrus into white floral notes of jasmine and jasmine sambac, tuberose and lily. The tuberose is the big player here. It's a creamy full bodied tuberose but it has a modern advantage over the tuberose in Giorgio Beverly Hills. This is a sweeter tuberose, quitter and more relaxed.

The amber and woods and a hint of musk only remind me of sun tan lotion, perfumed lotion for the skin. Smells good though but not quite as in the coconut-beach tropical island vibe from Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess. This is also reminding me of the new fragrance from Louboutin Bikini Questa Sera. It's not mind blowing and smelled pretty typical of a white floral with a vanilla/musk and woods but I think the patchouli plus the honeysuckle give it a good edge and an herbal/aromatic forest air. Smells a bit old fashioned/vintage but at the same time perfect for day to day use in 2016.

Beautiful. It smells like it belongs on a mature confident CEO or boss lady. I'm not there yet but I do like to smell the scent of success and you know what that smells like? Tuberose. One day I'll wear plenty of it. In the meantime I have my transition fragrances and intro fragrances like this one.

dyaver

Such a lovely, bright, gentle and feminine fragrance. Really nice composition of white flowers with dominant jasmine and comforting patchouli-musky base. It's a pretty, floral scent that would please many. Safe for a blind buy, perfect for a gift.

Southern Blonde

Modern Muse is a beautiful woman robed in white, adorned with white flowers, not quite the Virgin Mary, but still she is a figure of veneration, respect, and inspiration for artists. This is a beautiful white floral, the best to come out of the Estee Lauder line in more recent years. If you love the floral scents of gardenia, tuberose, lilies and jasmines, this, then, is a perfume for you. Every single white floral note is detectable. Gorgeous jasmine, a creamy vanilla scented gardenia, and lilies. The fragrance opens with fresh citrus, sweet and perfumy, even old timey. The dry down is musky and woodsy with pronounced patchouli leaves. Smells green, herbal, and with that honeysuckle note it smells like inhaling the aroma of white flowers on shrubs outdoors. It's a well made patchouli-white-floral Oriental. The scent is very long lasting and has great sillage. Nothing but love for this perfume. Smells even better in the spring and summer, matches with white sundresses or white sun hats, the color is white, ivory, lily white, snow white, pure and clean. It's a sweet clean scent. I can't get enough of it. I think this is going to be your perfume if you like other white florals like Madonna Truth or Dare, or Kim Kardashian but in defense of this perfume this feels far more sophisticated and a throwback to white flower perfumes of the Golden Age. It might have more in common with Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds, but not nearly as intense.
