This is really very similar to Creed Viking Cologne. Ungaro pour homme III and Viking C have both extremely similar acidic top notes and dry down in the base is similar, slightly sweet. But Viking C has more that mandarin accord to it but the base is very weak and light where Ungaro III’s dry down is a bit stronger and denser and the sweetness is better with some fruity woodiness. I’m not sure if I can smell any rose here but I guess it adds to the overall composition very nicely. Awhile back I sold Viking C because I found it a bit boring and somehow watered cologne. But this Ungaro III is more original with traditional barbershop qualities and overally this feels a bit denser and better. I paid 17€ for 100ml and I’m happy! This is a keeper!

Edit:

The dry down lost its slight sweetness and the acidity came up front again. I need to try this more.

Hello all, you get the notes wrong again, please, from their homepage: "...fresh notes of lemon and orange, accompanied by the sensuality of pepper and sandalwood..." Great value, no question about gender here and a perfect signature scent. Vintage perfumes still in production speaks quality, which is also a scent characteristic here. This one however stands out as still being like a modern new perfume. The best value you can get.

FragChronic

I'm surprised Nobody picks up the Drakar Noir with rose vibe, it has a lot of similarities to that classic.

Misterprofumo

Ungaro pour homme screams masculinity and class.. it's a sultry sexy fragrance that seduces you from the first spray, I blind bought this due to a really good sale and oh boy am I glad I agree with others for the price this is more than a steal you could easily pay more for similar scents today, I see alot of people comparing this with Safari I am a huge fan of Ralph Lauren safari since the original formulation in the 90s and I see the similarities but still both fragrances have so many different things going on and are unique in their own way, however a pro is Ungaro can outlast Safari now due to Ralph Lauren changing the formulation, this is definitely a winter date night scent and one I would have in my collection as long as it's around.

What a surprise.
Been sitting on it for five years. I even returned it once without opening the box.
On my skin it turns into luxurious barbershop cream. I imagine Nicky Santoro might smell like this after getting his shave.
It's naught but in a classy and not in an obnoxious ways. It's old school but easy to wear.
It's not a great one but a very good one. Something I will definitely keep and would repurchase.

I've been buying as many of the old classics as I can afford lately. Some, like Drakkar Noir, which I expected to be an absolute powerhouse, are very disappointing, it's obvious I'm very late to the party and the lights are almost out. Others, like Encre Noire, or Quorum, are more than I could have imagined, absolute delights and instant loves.

Ungaro III arrived this morning.

Absolutely beautiful.

At first blast I felt it was a better copy of Aventus than Armaf's Club de Nuit Intense Man, the pineapple accord was so strong. Yes, there is no pineapple in it, but that's what I smelt. That initial blast soon resolved to a strong multi layered spice aspect. It bought to mind what Old Spice would smell like if its full potential was realised.

It's a very sophisticated and memorable fragrance. I can see why numerous people say it's a masterpiece. I'll have to see how it goes in the long term, but for now it's a new favourite and I can't wait to see how it combines with Encre Noir.

When I first tried Ungaro III, I didn't understand it. I was too dark and smelled like nothing in my collection. Now I get it. Mahogany + vodka = masculine + sexy. That's all you need to know. It exudes a confident and mysterious vibe. Smell like the man that you are. It's also a great value.

donshan123

Ungaro Pour Homme III is a masterpiece scent that I believe every man needs. The fragrance is a manly rose scent that is a BEAST during cold, winter months. It is perfect for formal or casual nights, but I have also worn it for daytime formal/casual wear. If you are a dude, and you want to try a rose fragrance without it being feminine, try this fragrance. It is a scent worth two thumbs up, but this is just my opinion. Do not base your opinion on me.

For ANY fragrance, read reviews before buying it, but take them with a grain of salt. Everyone has their own opinion regarding smells. Some people love a specific fragrance. Some people hate it. My advice is for you to GET A SAMPLE OF ANY FRAGRANCE BEFORE YOU BUY IT. That way, you can assess it yourself and have your own thoughts rather than strictly going off someone else's thoughts and opinions.

sweet piglet of smoke

This is a lot--and I mean a lot--more wearable than many of the reviews below might lead you to believe. It's not dated, and it's not hyper-masculine. I agree with the reviews that say if this was released today by any high end niche house, people would happily spend $300 for it, and brag about wearing it. I wish I'd gotten it years ago. It seemed too good to be true. But it wasn't. It's even better than the best reviews here led me to believe. I could wear this every day until Christmas.

perlindvall

Top notes first up is vodka, lol... Now that's my boy, what a star! First Class! Seriously this is a great one and better than new similar perfumes.

#317 in my "Tour de Fragrance"
Well if you thought Ungaro III was gonna be better than I and II, prepare to be disappointed. Actually this is the only Ungaro fragrance I've purchased but I still can't say I've smelled an Ungaro fragrance as there's nothing here to smell. No idea what this is supposed to be because I get zero from this except a hint of sandalwood so light I may be imagining it. Could be a bad bottle I suppose.

jackchemin

This smell! Wow! This could easily be a $300 fragrance! So blessed it isn’t! Glad I bought a back up bottle just incase!

Ungaro L Homme lll a Masterpiece best men Classic Fragrance after apply 3 or 4 spray really Enjoy it

Glyph

"Vodka and Roses" might sound like the discarded name for an Eighties metal band, but it would also have been a fitting name for this fragrance from Ungaro, which is still being produced. It's a very memorable accord, though probably not one you'll want to wear to the workplace because of its booziness. It's got a beautiful array of dozens of other notes, and it's unusual in that when you first spray it on, its power does not seem so evident... but it sneaks up on you later.

I did receive compliments on this almost as soon as I wore it. I think it probably was even more complex once and also made with better ingredients (you can usually tell), but I still enjoy this very much, especially at this price point.

Markja

Another broken fragrance
This was awesome 15yr ago it smelt fresh airy but dark and quite mysterious
It was a lovely date night scent and the rose just worked for a man’s frag

Anyway I tried the new stuff and initially you get a blast of cheap vodkka cheap woods and some sickly sweet cheap floral note
I can tell what’s it trying to be and still is the same but it feels like ungaro3 was a high flyer massive salary and pent house now ungaro3 sadly is broke and homeless

ViceCity

This was being sold on the cheap by an online retailer and I decided to take a punt. For the first time I do not feel totally disappointed with a blind buy.

The bottle looks a lot like Bvlgari in Black but the fragrance absolutely does not smell similar. It's something else, a lot lighter and not long lasting, but comfortable enough to wear not just in fall but spring time as well.

It's not a favourite of mine but I can't complain considering the low price for which I managed to secure one.

scenturian

As soon as I put this on my chest hairs thicken, and then transform into a wolf, yes really wolf.

I recently read an article about evolutionary-genetics, was saying that homo-sapiens were also capable of growing full hair like other animals when needed, this one does it to you, ahahaha.

Anabol2336

This is one the most awesome vintage fragrances you can still buy and for cheap. Ungaro worked for Chanel and Balenciaga and that explains why this one reminds me of Egoiste and Balenciaga Pour Homme respectively. Basically Egoiste and Balenciaga mixed with Ralph Lauren Safari. If you like those and Drakkar Noir, Fahrenheit, YSL Opium Pour Homme, etc. These fragrances are like the best of the late 80s and early 90's before the lighter aquatics took over. To me that little period between about 88 and 95 created the best fragrances ever made. They have that 80's powerhouse DNA but are able to tone down the animalic funk and make it more acceptable to most noses. I highly recommend this hidden gem to virtually anyone because it doesn't smell dated and it also doesn't smell juvenile. It really is just a perfect fragrance. Performance is incredible. Last all day until you shower easily. also that vodka note is done perfectly. The only other fragrance I know with a similar note is 212 VIP. It just adds a really sexy touch to the already perfect fragrance.

Qlnmu

I think “90s barbershop” pretty much sums it up. If you’re familiar with Drakkar Noir then it’s in that sort of ballpark, but it’s a decade more modern than that and I think that’s for the better. I own both and would wear this over Drakkar Noir 9 times out of 10.
How we respond to fragrance is so much about association and for me the scent memory this gives is very comforting. When I smell this I’m transported to my boyhood home where my Dad is stepping out of the bathroom smartly dressed and clean shaven. As he descends the stairs he leaves behind him a Gillette-scented wake that is unmistakably clean and masculine.
As a scent to enjoy for myself I find it to be very comforting thanks to that homely nostalgia. As a scent for other people to smell on me, I’m quite happy to sometimes wear something that’s a bit different from today’s fragrances, to not smell necessarily modern or youthful. I’m now a father myself and feel pretty comfortable giving off a ‘90s Dad’ vibe.
That might not suit you, or you might find that the people in your life who smell this on you have a negative association with this sort of scent profile - lots of people will have smelled something like this before - but if clean 90s Dad sounds to you like a fun way to smell, you should consider picking this up, you should have no trouble finding it for around £20.

jackchemin

I really like this. After a couple of hours, I forget I have it on, then I get a whiff and just for second or two I really believe I’m James Bond. The rose is absolutely beautiful in this.

Chaselark

Wow, they ain't lying, this @%$# is amazing (for the price). Lots of Aromatic Woody's out there but this just rises at least 2 tiers above a standard aromatic woody like Kenneth Cole Mankind Hero - in 'zing' and punch. Why, how? I think it's the twist in introducing the Rose & Vodka notes. This is a Ferragamo company and if they placed that brand on this exact fragrance they could sell it for 2x & 3x the price. It's hard to find an under $20 fragrance for a 3.4 that draws this much positive attention. If you like cheapies that punch above their weight, you'll be happy.

Eibextario

Smells good on the initial spray, then gets quite boring really fast. I don't know the vintage version, but there's no way Polge and Demachy have created this. They have created the original formulation, but just by how punchless this smells I doubt there is anything left of it. This is a reformulated remnant of the past. In the drydown, it just smells like "something" without any recognizable notes.

mkcmn

The new version scent drying is very close with the lagerfeld jako. I can't say anything about the old version because I don't have it. If you accept it as one of the new generation perfumes, it smells very good. Soapy clean and attractive scent.

zoozoo

Kont drakulanın parfümü :D bulursanız bi deneyin, old school ! Kış için ideal bil hassa akşamları. Menekşe lavanta ve yosun baskın. Sanki tütün de varmış gibi.

karlovonamesti

I have no experience with vintage (although extensive experience with vintage Ungaro II), but I would refer you to Rich Milton's review below for an assessment on that. This review is of the current black-cap version by Interparfums.

This is probably the best fragrance value in my collection. I spent $10 for the 3.4 oz bottle, the price of a bottle of Old Spice. What I get for that pocket change is an incredibly well-rendered vodka accord, steeped with juniper and lavender aromatics, with an obvious accent of sage and a halo of citrus, bitter lemon. What ensues over the course of six hours is an essay on dihydrogeraniol and some sort of hard wood, which is reminiscent of the smell of the inside of a well-made violin, which could be the mahogany note. These two elements fuse into a woody rose with the curious effect of having significant olfactory heft while also seeming transparent and light. The rose isn't overly masculine, and I could see women wearing Ungaro pour L'Homme III without an issue.

Certainly this third entry in the Ungaro masculine triptych is the most avant-garde of the lot, with an Italianate flourish of vodka-tonic freshness followed by a brief herbal stage that is evocative of the eighties "powerhouses," before rapidly coalescing into an early nineties rose scent. The key to this one is go light on the trigger. But get the dosage correct, and it's absolutely magnificent, and I think could rival any of the transgressive niche roses by brands like Malle and Amouage.

Ungaro pour L'Homme III:
I've had this for a couple of years. Not something I wear everyday. Definitely fall and winter. Wore it today for the first time in a long time, and got a compliment (I rarely ever get compliments on fragrances...). Longevity and sillage are first rate. I love the combination of notes. Mahogany. Rose. Vodka. Oakmoss. It hits all the bases. Fruity, woody, a little boozy. Probably the most sophisticated-smelling fragrance I own. I bought it for less than $20 USD. Definitely a must if you like classics. It came out in '93, but still has an '80s feel with 16 different notes. It's DNA is probably best for an older guy, or a younger guy who appreciates something different. Not a scent that everyone is wearing, so you will definitely get noticed. Highest recommendation.

juristhegreat

Revisiting this masculine scent from 1993. Considered as aromatic woody fragrance, but this one came with some twist. First, I like the dark nuance from vodka and mahogany wood notes. Second, I like the way the rose presented in this concoction, alongside the lavender, lili of the valley, and jasmine. Like other 90s fragrance you can also found geranium, and the combination of sandalwood, patchouli, oakmoss, but they also add cedar and musk. You’ll be amazed if you can find the old batch, because the newer is far from good.

CodyJr

An uber masculine masterpiece.

SphinxTeteDeMort

This smells like a forgotten half-wilted rose on the writing desk of Edgar Allan Poe, amongst "many a quaint and curious volumes of forgotten lore" from which the severely depressed poet seeks to borrow "surcease of sorrow—sorrow for the lost Lenore—for the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore—nameless here for evermore." There is a storm outside and the raven will start to rap at the chamber door in several minutes. Also, the drawers of the desk are filled with empty bottles of cheap whisky.

Prejudice: This has been called many things: Man in black old version, but with vodka and ROSE and LAVENDER. Mature man. Cheapie. Fresh. "Rose Aventus"... Blind bought for 21€.

1st quick impression: Is it just a generic blue? A synthetic opening, light fragrance...

2nd impression, now full wear: I smell the rose on my chest and the lavender on my wrist, oddly enough. The lavender actually smells nice and not too synthetic at all. I could never tell this has a vodka note. But in general this is quite unremarkable.

3rd wear. Synthetic generic perfumey perfume. This might have been great back in the day, but today (black cap bottle) this is just a cheap generic male smell. Gave it to a friend.

smellydude

If you can find one , get the one with the brown cap and red box, Made in France , these were produced by Chanel (Jacques Polge). The very early reformulations when Ferragamo parfums took over the " Made in Italy" ones with the brown cap ,are good too. The later modern " made in Italy" ones with the black cap are just ok compared to the original Ungaro Pour Homme 3 " made in France" ones.

donshan123

Emmanuel has reformulated Ungaro III a few times, and it upsets me because it becomes more synthetic after each reformulation. However, I still love the scent. I see many ppl have voted it as a daytime fragrance, but I would not wear it during the day or casually. That's just me. I use Ungaro III as a nighttime fragrance. Ungaro III is a dark, manly rose fragrance. If you are looking for an affordable, dark, masculine, sexy, slightly boozy, clean, rose fragrance, this is it. It is a fall/wintertime BEAST that performs spectacularly in cold air. Despite its synthetic nature, I highly recommend it, but don't take my word for it.

For any fragrance, read reviews before buying it, but take them with a grain of salt. Everyone has their own opinion regarding smells. Some people love a specific fragrance. Some people hate it. My advice is for you to get a sample of ANY fragrance before you ever buy it. That way, you can assess it yourself and have your own thoughts rather than strictly going off someone else's thoughts and opinions. So, do not let my opinion influence you.

Marcel

Ungaro III is a classy Italian fragrance, with an interesting darkness to it (probably because of the vodka note).

It's extremely well blended; all notes work in harmony with each other. No one could be surprised to read it's an Aromatic Green composition, since it's a barbershop type of fragrance.

What I like about this fragrance is that it projects an image (at least in my mind) of a very mature man (I'm not talking age here, but rather the state of mind which comes from experience); it also gives the impression of a very reliable man, which I think makes it perfect as office scent.

Roman86

Very pleasant and delicate. It does last a long time. For the money this is a welcomed addition to my collection and I can't wait to wear it to formal occasions.

Guitar 2016

This is a great Woody Spicy fragrance, Fresh, Light , Sensual and Complex , A Timeless Classic and Hidden Gem ! Emanuel Ungaro Pour L'Homme III has a masterful Harmony with its notes.
It opens up with fresh citrusy, slightly spicy, green and floral notes in the background then dry down is green musky woody. It is perfect for the spring, fall and winter. I really enjoy it and I love it, I'm so happy that I have it in my collection.
Two Thumbs Up.

rowan.walters

I have a few versions of Ungaro III. The main difference seems to be the amount of oakmoss, which is more noticeable in the first version. They’re all good and retain the Ungaro III DNA with its central dry rose and vodka theme, illustrative of Emmanuel Ungaro’s avant-garde, even iconoclastic, take on traditional men’s fragrance.

In the same way that Christopher Sheldrake and Serge Lutens challenged the convention of woody fragrances being “masculine” with Shiseido ‘Fémininité du Bois’ Ungaro challenges the traditional notion of rose as a “feminine” note in Ungaro III.

Vodka is an interesting choice. Alcoholics often choose vodka for “day drinking” - because it’s relatively odourless - and in Ungaro III the vodka serves to complement, accentuate and enhance the rose with a “booziness” without competing by asserting its own identity.

There is much more going on than rose and vodka but they’re the stars of the show, with a supporting cast of floral and woody notes. The latter come to the fore in the dry down.
In any case Ungaro III is a timeless men’s fragrance wearable by anyone of any age that works for any occasion. Even work.

Mystères du Château de Dé

L'Homme III has a fantastic top. A kitchen sink of notes, strong lavender, aromatic, blended effectively, to grab your attention and change your mindset. Often sold for under 20 bucks so a great value. Mine is the "Gold and Bold" edition.

sapeur1999

Vodka, rose and sandalwood for creaminess, a suave and elegant rose scent that's worth every cent of it's 25€ worth, it remains western, manly and highly wearable. Feels great in the beginning of the autumn when you're transitioning into cold weather scents. It reminds me -and offsets in usage situation- to Armaf's Le Parfait (less nutty) and Moschino's Toy Boy (sweeter). Performance wise is not stellar but that's what you get for the price.

WGG

I've the black bottle, black cap, gold detail. Reviews here are all over the map, I'll add another thought or two. This has echoes of Antaeus. Tried them side by side, Antaeus, deeper more complex, better blended, but similar vibe, and so much pricier of course. I also tried alongside Noir de Noir, a much stronger rose there, great performance. But keep coming back to Ungaro III. It's smoother, less in your face, easier to wear. Suitable for nights out/parties, close encounters. Autumn, winter, indoors. Silly price, almost a safe blind buy.
5/5
Update: this is like a parfum version of Bulgari Man in Black - and much better, more depth, projection

rr690

A great boozy musky frag that is very masculine. It starts slightly sweet and then it settles into a very pleasant old school vibe. Its a more mature version of all the sweet stuff that's popular right now and the Vodka notes set this one a part from the other boozy frags.
I got about 10 hours of total performance and my wife couldn't keep her nose away from me.
I think it will do well in all situations, however I would go easy on the sprays if you plan to wear this in the summer. I think since its not overly sweet you can get away with it in the warm months

FlirtBoy

if you are looking for a "boozy rose" accord, get this or Amouage Gold pH, they´re different but both share a similar charm...both of them being beautiful creations of the 90s

Latitude-29

Ungaro frags were powerhouse masterpieces.
Nuanced, articulated, indicted with a personality &.....eff me...did they bloody last!

Oh & by-the-way; they actually had a smell...yes...you could actually smell them 20minutes after their application. I believe they used to call this 'fragrance' &/or 'perfume'.

I have Ungaro PH & Ungaro PH2.
And yes bevren, I couldn't agree with you more about this unfathomable appropriation of an AGE to a FRAGRANCE.

Fragrance doesn't have a right or wrong age.

It has right or wrong occasions, right or wrong seasons/weather & right or wrong body chemistry.

Out of these 3, only the last is a fixed immutable phenomena. And it could be argued that even the occasion & weather is irrelevant if the wearer can pull it off & rock it at the time. (But I think entering Ungaro frags in daylight, in high summer could never be done...but who knows?)

When you read these comments as you say: 'old man', 'old lady' 'Dad' etc........it's as though those commenters must have thought when these so called 'old' frags came out, young men & women at the time must've smelt them & thought....hmmn...."that's OK....but I'll have to wait 'til I'm over 45 to wear that!"

When they came out they were worn by whoever liked them...WHEN THEY CAME OUT. And they didn't come out with an age rating system like a movie: PG M or R (LOL!)

I suppose any stakeholders in Lynx, Axe, Impulse & throw in fabric softener to boot; have no worries with their returns for some years yet.

bevren

I get really tired of reading reviews on this site by people who refer to scent as 'old lady' or 'old men in suits' - it's got to be the most ageist site out there. What a terrible shame.

PhonePotato

L’homme III smells like 1 Million made for old men in suits. This is a gorgeous and high quality scent BUT it does smell like it’s from a different era. It smells old and classy like something you would wear to the opera in the ‘70s. I kept smelling this and thinking it smelled like an old school/classier version of something I had, then it came to me, it’s 1Million. It’s 1 Million reformulation for your grandpa. Don’t believe me then just look at the shared notes. Yeah, the rose in this is amped up and the spices are different but they do give a similar effect.

Smell is 10/10
Longevity 7/10
Projection 8/10

11Mic22hael33

I have a bottle of the most recent formulation before it was discontinued. It takes a couple of full wearings to realize just how awesome this fragrance really is. It's very bold with an array of notes that are perfectly balanced and well blended. It's loud but not screeching in any way. Ungaro Pour L'Homme III is how a men's fragrance should smell and it lasts for hours and hours. One of the best bottle designs I've ever seen. It's heavy, sexy and blacker than black. They need to get this discontinued gem back into production. What the hell were they thinking???

Masterpiece by Jacques pole & Francois demachy👍 I haven't tried the reformulated version? But the vintage is amazing❤️❤️🏆

Steven42000

One of my favourite scents, if you appreciate any barber shop fragrances you have to try this.
With 250 bottles plus this is still one of my most worn fragrances,

etmpewo

This is one of those scents you need to learn to appreciate.
It's an 80-ies / 90-ies scent: bold and daring.
This scent screams: Here I am and I'm not afraid.
When you're from the era, you'll instantly recognize it and love it.
When you're younger, you'll find out it may take a long time to love it,
but as soon as you get it, you'll never appreciate the soft smelling
scents anymore.

I LOVE this scent, even though I'm a woman. It's super masculine.

DenizYildirim

Loud and proud. This was love at first smell for me. I was skeptical of a vodka note as I assumed it would just be an alcoholic ethanol smell but it really does somehow smell like vodka without smelling sharp and alcoholic. The rose comes through prominently but it's not the kind of rose you'd associate with an old lady smell, it's somehow strong yet still soft and somewhat powdery. The vodka and lavender really make this one scream masculine but not the strong silent cowboy type of masculine, this ones a loud, fashionable, gold jewellery wearing, slick haired type of man smell.

BillyBearPeppersteak

I want this fragrance to sell me a used car and to be wearing gold rings with chest hair sticking out of it's shirt.

This fragrance wears hair cream. Drives an old Mercedes. Loves to golf.

This fragrance thinks Huey Lewis and The News are still pretty hip.

This fragrance really made me realize how much I loathe modern men's scents. My nose is fixed dead smack in middle of this guy right here. Smells like victory.

youeatcheese

This is one of the fragrances that I changed my view on, in a good way.

I bought it blindly after seeing all the good reviews. When I first tried it I was very disappointed and did not like the smell at all, just made me think why the heck people think this is such a nice fragrance. But, I gave it a few tries and then I started picking up more notes and started appreciating it more. I like Toy Boy or Declaration D'un Soir for a rosy masculine fragrance and Ungaro III is in the same category for me - only a little bit more masculine side. I would choose the other two over this one - nonetheless, Ungaro III is a very nice solid scent.

orestes

I prefer red cap version!

Joeslacker321

I had smelled the most recent one in the mall the other day. I loved it didn't have much bad to say. Then I got home and it developed into a synthetic metallic smell in the latter stages of the sprays life. For that reason it kinda turned me off if anyone has a bottle of the Made in France Red cap and Red box bottle I'd be willing to buy or trade, shoot me a message. Thanks.

ALC555

Fantastic creation of Jacques Polge (house of Chanel) and Francois Demachy (house of Dior). This is a smell of the 90's. Still relevant and unique among the numerous tutti frutti men's colognes nowadays. I just got the Gold and Bold Limited Edition today. I will purchase the regular black bottle when l run out of this boozy fragrance.

ManicMonkey84

I feel like I must’ve gotten the baddie reformulated version of this. As others have mentioned, this smells exactly like Gillette aftershave with a tinny vodka undertone. The geranium comes through faintly during the drydown, but the dominant note to my nose is still very much drug store men’s grooming product. This is ultimately a no for me, unfortunately.

alanwake

This is an elegant, refined old school Fougere with modern chypre tendencies. It shares a lot of similarities with Zegna Pour Homme, minus the woody elements. My sample is apparently from the first generation which is the red box, black bottle, gold neck, red cap. I detect no vodka or rose. I mainly get a dose of leather, lavender, geranium, cloves(or cinnamon), moss and subtle woods. Zegna Pour Homme came out a year prior to this, but this is close and extremely well done. No complaints.

Frag/cook

This is rose fragrance done in classic style.
The main player is the rose for sure, but it's spicy and dry woody also specially 1st 30-40 minutes, alot is going on in the top and middle notes, then it dries down to an elegant rose with spices and rounded woods (sandalwood gives rounded-ness but it isn't detectable)

The performance is very good (for an EDT and price tag), it acts like a light EDP

I think I'm gonna wear it all year around thaks to it's classic style that gives it wearability.

8.5/10 for me
But it is not for everyone one because of rose note that might be too much for some tastes.

davidelliott

A true masterpiece of a death rose Oud.Lasting all day and projecting for a good 4 hours .

Mystères du Château de Dé

Gold & Bold edition, attained at low cost. Sweet and pretty and very nearly a woman's perfume impact, cheap and rich, yet comfortably masculine. Nice trick! This is tailor made for Mediterranean young men. Bellissimo!

Kuldeep S

This perfume reminds you of 90's aftershave splashes like gillete. I like the fragrance ,and only downside is its poor performance.

FragChronic

anyone who says this smells like Chanel Egoiste has a broken nose, sorry, just sayin.
where would anyone come up with that?
Egoiste platinum maybe?
but not spicy cinnamon sandalwood bomb egoiste,c'mon now.
I do see the Drakkar Noir resemblance. not the same, but in that ballpark

Kuldeep S

Its' dry down is very similar to Burberry men EDT. Sweet, minty. No vodka note to my nose. Not bad , but not as unique as I thought.
I also got some similarity with Drakkar Noir but not with Davidoff zino.May be my 38 year old nose is now not sufficient to identify individual notes in the perfume.
Edit- I sometime get a Gillete or adidas aftershave lotion vibe.

Regular_dude

Nobody think this smells like Tommy Hilfiger for men?

alphairone

The opening blast of Ungaro Pour L'Homme III really does evoke the scent of vodka. Now, how'd they do that!? This yields to a dark, enchanting damask rose steeped in spirits and flanked by geranium and all manner of woods.

As it dries, the rose slowly crossfades into sheer patchouli and sandalwood, eventually winding down to faint mossy, musky skin scent.

This is brooding yet seductive, and I would hazard to say that it's up there with the best of the classic men's rose scents, such as VC&A PH and Azzaro Acteur.

DaedalusX

Pretty pissed right now... I must have gotten a reformulation because this stuff is weak as hell. According to the reviews this stuff is supposed to be moderate to long lasting. What I got was a 30 minutes to an hour tops. I thought it was a skin issue for me so lent the bottle out to a few different buddies and they said I was being generous with even saying an hour of longevity. After doing some research and sleuthing I’ve realized that I have the 4th reformulation. It’s the one with the black box and black bottle, gold neck, but black cap. It’s obviously watered down from the previous entries. Anyway, in my opinion the only way I can describe this stuff is that it’s a modern Drakkar Noir, but a lite version. I’m wearing it currently on a very hot day hoping that the performance would be better, but the performance is piss poor. Smells great and is cheap, but was expecting much better longevity. I wish there was a way the Fragrantica could add to the colognes page which generations or re-formulations that have been done, but the more I think about it, it’s probably too complicated. Just know to anyone buying this stuff that you’re most likely getting the 4th generation with this stuff. The bottle that’s being shown in this profile is the 4th reformulated version.

First Generation- Red box, black bottle, gold neck, red cap
Second Generation-Red and black box, black full bottle, red cap
Third Generation- Red and black box, black bottle, gold neck, black cap
Fourth Generation-Black box, Black bottle, gold neck, black cap.

Apparently this stuff wasn’t always cheap according to collectors I’ve spoken with, so it’s cheap now for a reason, and now I know why. Just an FYI.

One of the best! This is true gold standard. 🍸🌹
Emanuel Ungaro Pour L’Homme III is the way of classic fragrance that reminded me of early 90s age, but not outdated. This perfume has composed by two master perfumers of Chanel and Dior “Jacques Polge” and “ François Demachy” and that is why it’s so mysterious! This is perfectly combination of Woody-Aldehyde, spices and rose. It’s make an illusion of a man in the bar during early 90s with nice black suit sitting there with vodka and a red rose 🌹 waiting for give it to a girl he love. It’s gentle, luxury, romantic and mysterious in the same time.

Scent 9/10

“The true legend that never been told (in fragrance community)”

...And I sad to hear it’s already discontinued

Davidoff's Zino meets Chanel's Égoïste. I have the limited edition 'Bold and Gold', made in Italy – and I have no idea if the composition is the same or different from the regular 'black-top' version.

My early assessment of this is that it is a nicely balanced floral with a 'masculine rose' emphasis. The orange has a top and early mid-note presence. As for a vodka/alcohol presence, I must say it's not obvious in this 'Bold and Gold'. Coriander for sure. Sage too. Beyond the opening the lavender seems muted. If I'm honest, and to my surprise considering five different woods are listed, this aspect lacks density. It is rose that prevails.

L'Homme III is an airy scent. I don't notice it on me; but those around me can. And it is always complimented. A light spray projects quite nicely for three hours in temperatures of about 16ºC but tails off somewhat thereafter. Longevity better than average – nudging seven hours as a skin scent on this 'first' outing.

Ungaro pour L'Homme III sells for about £20/100ml EdT compared to Égoïste at £75. That is a serious price difference for easily mistakable products.

mjhazard23

I can’t stop spraying it. Fastest I’ve blown through a 10ml decant. Full bottle ordered. Everything considered 10/10

It’s the 90s distilled in a bottle

<3.34 - Disatisfied; smelled better off test strip than being unoticeable on skin; did not want faint sprays to never linger anywhere tried, gave it a fair chance, but difficult to pinpoint any sillage/longevity at some point.

An alluring aspect of this well-rated & unique III/Trois from '93 is its literal note likeness to '89's Tsar VanCleef & Arpels, 90's Egoiste Chanel, '92's Witness by Jacques Bogart.

94's Dolce & Gabbana pour Homme & '98's Gucci Envy for Men also take after many similar notes. From the house, the Apparition ones by Olivier Polge seem of decent quality.

II or Deux had his brother Jacques Polge as nose while Francois Demachy created I/Un. Both of these box/cap designs were more colorful yet discontinued while this one is straight black & gold, fitting for its sinister, mischievous likeness to the dark masculine rose.

I had to spray this on tester strips too before I realized its subtle deceptiveness & complex depth portrayed on skin/dry-down bass. The intrigue of mahogany (spicy wood) & coriander (nutty seed) is noticeable mixed with the cedar/vetiver.

Plus the patchouli/oakmoss is in good combination with the sage/sandalwood for the floral vodka intrigue as it's well-balanced but may require many more sprays for the optimal effect.

Excepcional, me recuerda en el secado a Contradiction for Men de Ck.

Ionut82

Although I try to be as objective as possible in the review of perfumes, I can not ignore the fact that it is sold at a very low price compared to what it offers. Even perfumes from Avon or Oriflame have higher prices.
In conclusion, you can't go wrong with it. Cheap but good

Dorian_Gray

At first spray I smell a strong similarity to Drakkar Noir and then turning into Chanel Egoiste.

The opening is too strong but the drydown is gorgeous.

Oleo derides "disrespectful" men, and then proceeds to attack those with a different opinion than his. Classic pretentious turd.

This stuff smells exactly like what it is..a retail $40 bottle of cheap fragrance from yesteryear. I bought expensive cologne in a private sale and the guy threw this in for free, obviously in an attempt to just get rid of it since it has no value.

I've seen some describe it as so well-blended that it's hard to pick out the individual notes. No, my non-friend, it is so poorly blended with low quality ingredients that you can't pick out any notes. You may notice this in the reviews.. nobody can really break down the highlights or progression of the fragrance.

Sure, like what you will, there's no problem with that. But to hail it as a masterpiece? Let's be reasonable. It's all relative, I suppose.

pflyer85

I picked this one up as a blind buy because I was looking for a classy fragrance to wear for a Friday evening wedding in mid March. I don't really have to dress formal often so I didn't want to spend a ton but wanted to smell like I did. I think I knocked it out of the park picking this up! This is definitely the newer reformulation but I don't get this brooding, super dark fragrance that some describe. I'm guessing that is more in line with the original formulation. To me I get a less metallic, more floral and slightly darker version of Chanel PE. If Chanel did an evening flanker to PE this would be it. UIII definitely has that distinctive 90s aromatic characteristic to it. At 34 years old this doesn't smell dated to me but I can see where a 24 year old might think so. What I like most is that while it's formal and classy its not the least bit stuffy or too conservative. This one has a playful and mysterious edge to it. Age wise I would say 30+ but someone in their mid 20s could pull this off on certain occasions. If you are looking for a semi formal to formal evening scent for moderate to cooler temps, do not sleep on this one! 8.5/10

An absolute gem!
One of the best affordable scents I've came across since Bentley For Men Intense.

Ungaro pour L'Homme III is an aromatic, warm, spicy scent with a woody depth & touch of a unique aquatic-like sharpness from the vodka.

The rose here is not the typical soft rose you find in a lot of fragrances. Everything is so round & well-blended together that it's difficult to pick a note on its own by nose but you can "feel" the presence of each note.

A scent reminiscent of the classic aromatic fragrances of the 1990s without being out of date, like many other in the same category. It has the classical aromatic vibe of the 1990s fragrances, yet unique enough on its own.

The scent is soft, warm, & charming. Clean & crisp, almost inviting others to come closer to you.

There is no stink here (e.g. Kouros, Aramis 900) that has become off-putting as the general taste developed. So, this is a safe blind buy.

I actually tried it because I was trying rose fragrances for men, which I did out curiosity & interest in masculine rose scents. Who doesn't like rose, right? & what pushed it up in the testing list was when a youtuber I follow mentioned it as one of the best affordable scents. When I tried it, I bought it on the spot! Something I don't do anymore but it was a rare find where I live (all Ungaro's in general are rare here) & the smell with that price was a steal.

Ungaro pour L'Homme III is a classy scent, that goes perfect withe tux or a suite. Yet, I feel it's wearable most of the time for almost all occasions but it shines best on cooler nights.

One of the best cheapies out there.

Italian classic style. Solid and timeless.for me is a little simillar to SERGIO NERO "Pour Homme" with strong notes of corriander, patchouli ,cardamon, lavender....but UNGARO "Pour L'Homme III" has more timid, mysteriuos, more silent and reserved intravert character.meanwhile Sergio Nero has more bright expressive and extravert mood...both perfumes are no sweet. they belong to an old perfumery school.are aristocratic , conservative, old-fashioned.

For gurmanes who love high quality classic italian vintage

Read reviews and blind bought this fragrance, just received it today and upon first wearing all I get a the whisky boozy vodka note, I’m going to give it a chance but if I don’t like the dry down I’m returning it, eBay buy and it is a 2002 product, it was advertised as vintage new in box sealed which it was....this is what happens Sometimes when you blind buy 😐

Just some general lines that might help the majority of people:
- if you aren't mature enough, stay away from this one.
- if you just started your fragrance journey, stay away from this one.
- if you are the type of person who dresses like 2pac, stay away from this one.
- if you expect to drop panties in 2019, definitely stay away from this one.

Oleo

I don't give a damn if the fragrance is more than 25 years old, or if the bottle is made of cheap plastic... And I don't even care if a teenager, a housewife or an astronaut like this fragrance or not.

This is a timeless masterpiece, created by Jacques Polge and François Demachy.

... Is there anything else to say?

Indeed, this is the olfactory gem that evokes the scent of vodka and the gothic rose... The cursed one, the underground legend that has reached these days, hidden among forgotten shelves of old perfumeries.

I've read that it has been discontinued, so hurry to get it. I already have some back up bottles...

Projection & Sillage are strong and longevity is very good (7-9h), especially in cold and humid weather.

... Sometimes you read a lot of nonsense in people's reviews. There are some disrespectful guys, some ignorant babble... And some absurd ideas, too. One of them, is that Ungaro III is a fragrance "too masculine".

Really? ... Are you kidding me? Those guys have lost their sense of smell snorting so much sugar overdose. Don't make me laugh! In case you hadn't noticed, we are men, yes... Not a fruit cake.

This fragrance is sophisticated, classy and mysterious... Perfect for dusk and nights. All seasons, all year... And of course, dressed up. ;-)

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, someone compares the dry down of this fragrance to that of Vera Wang for men.

That’s about as accurate as stating a Strawberry tastes like a Grapefruit...what is going with peoples noses?

This isn’t a matter of picking up different notes and different skin chemistry, if someone told you that strawberry tastes like Grapefruit would you trust their tastebuds?

paligap

I just received the black-capped version in the red box.
What a letdown.
It is very distinctive, mildly intriguing, and a very dry scent.
However, the longevity (or lack thereof) is very disappointing!

zareliman

First of all you should know that this fragrance must have been reformulated at least once (if not more). The older formulations came in a reddish box that looks like Roses (maybe some people were getting a placebo note from that presentation), but the newer ones come in a plain black box.

The first time I tried this one I got zero Vodka or Rose, just strong wood and a hint of lavender/citrus. The store owner at that time shared that note description, she was suprised that someone listed Vodka or Rose as she didn´t ever get those smells (and she had sprayed it countless times for customers). I tried it a second time in a different store and then I could get the Rose (not as prominent as people are claiming here though) and I decided to buy it because it was good juice for the price although the presentation, bottle and cap, are very unappealing and cheap (I won´t be displaying this one alongside the nice bottles).

It´s not very unique nor special, it´s not divisive either, it´s a quite masculine heavy scent. It could be considered versatile, maybe suitable for a signature scent given that not many people smell like this nowadays, although I think it leans towards colder days.

Grillmaso

disclaimer: no offence towards anyone intended, just sharing my view:

THANK YOU Mr. Arbiter !!!

Seeing so many positive revs on this I thought something is wrong with me. I totally agree with you 100%.

For me there is no elegance, no flowers, no sensuality, no romance. Only thing mentioned by revs that is definitely there is masculinity, or I would say OVERMASCULINITY. And very cheap one.
This smells like default shaving foam.

I would imagine this is worn by guy 50/60+, living on countryside, working on field, not really taking care of himself. That one time in years, when he has to shave and suit up for some special social occasion (wedding, funeral, etc.), he would wear this, his only frag for last 40 years.

Classic or not, vintage or not, for me, this is one of the worst frags I ever smelled.

SpicyChaos

I'm reviewing a new bottle of the edt. It says Parfum Aromatique on the bottle, but eau de toilette on the bottom. I was lucky to get a 100 ml tester bottle for less than 25 usd.

I'm very pleased that I got it, because it fits, and performs, very well on me. What you get here is a warm, spicy and very masculine scent. I can't see a woman pull this off, although I'm sure some female daredevils will prove me wrong. :)
There's an interesting mix of orange, booze, wood and herb notes in the opening. Later you are presented with a wonderful rich smell of a rose and other floral notes. Below all these delightful goodies, in the base, you have a good dose of musk that is noticable at all times, but never in the front row.

How cool that such a masculine scent has a rose as it's star performer!

I easily get 6-7 hrs longevity on me. Sometimes even up to 12 hrs. This has turned into a love affair. It complimates me and lifts me up.

Arbiter

Oh man! Blind buy after the reviews. Thought I could trust you guys. This cologne smells OLD. Very OLD. Old and cheap. This smells like an old vegas casino strip club with all the smoke, dust , carpet and human odor. Very linear. Dry down on skin doesn't change scent. Just me but stay away from this one!

If I had to choose one of them, I would probably choose Oscar Gentlemen

rocketteli

I think this scent is the definition of "it grows on you". The top notes from the first spray come off extremely distinct and reminds me of an old era scent DNA. In my mind I see an older demographic rocking this fragrance, 30+. . .

It lingers very nicely and the dry down really takes you on a roller coaster of notes. My favorite is when its stuck on the base notes because the sandalwood and oak moss pair perfectly together. My 8th time wearing this was finally when I decided it wasnt a regret buy. (Not a reccomended blind buy, despite YouTube reviews). In any case, it's a cheapie so no harm done to the wallet, lol.

Le Knows

As it turns out, Ungaro III is surprisingly light and airy. That shiny black bottle with bold, gold accents might lead you to believe that this is a dark, brooding masculine powerhouse. But make no mistake: The only thing dark about Ungaro III is the packaging. Even its boozy element is a light, fresh vodka with wafts of equally fresh rose. Ungaro III is modern without being unoriginal—classic without being stuffy or dated. It's a year-round masculine aromatic that stays close to the skin with enough refinement, sex-appeal and sophistication to effortlessly go from office to dinner date. Quite nice, indeed.

Faithful&True

Ok so I blind bought this scent and tried it on my skin; I must say that it is smooth to my nose. I thought it was going to be almost on the same lines as Obsession by Calvin Klein or maybe something darker but it has it's very own character. I recommend any man to buy this fragrance.

aet

A great fragrance! A classic that smells as relevant today as it did when it came out in the 90s. Very elegant. A gentlemen's scent. Longevity medium. Sillage good.

Monkeys

Ungaro III is a dry yet a little sweet juniper berries/gin scent made quite aromatic by a rose and/or geranium plus lavender combo! I can also detect a touch of mild coriander at first which is quite a unique spice smell-wise. Underneath that I get a leathery, non-hippie preeminent patchouli note in the base along with subtle woods, probably sandalwood, and it is definitively still warm from the juniper/gin main note to my nose.

The result is classy, masculine and mature yet to me not dated and almost gives a "cozy", inviting barbershop for gentlemen vibe. I could see it as a darker more grown-up relative to a fragrance like the much fresher Declaration d’un Soir by Cartier. Also if Zino by Davidoff is a favorite of yours you could truly enjoy this one! (It is “younger” than the Zino’s and I like Ungaro a lot more). Without using the same ingredients I also believe Guerlain's Homme Intense uses a similar recipe. Guerlain's quality is higher though.

While this one is not for me it doesn’t take anything away from it. If you love warm, dry, spicy and aromatic fragrances with a dressed-up feel, give this one a test, it could surprise you.

tayyabforyouth

This is a boozy masculine rose cologne. I detect mainly rose and vodka (two interesting and unusual notes in a masculine fragrance) on the opening, but with strong hints of sandalwood, lavender, and patchouli as well on the drydown (while the vodka somewhat disappears). This is definitely a 'night-out' fragrance, and leans masculine though could be used by women due to its sweetness. It reminds me a lot of Swiss Arabian's 'Sultan' attar, possibly due to the sweet sandalwood mixed with rose. The vodka is very sweet while the rose and lavender and woody accord from the sandalwood and patchouli are also quite prominent. Sillage is very good while longevity is also strong. Overall this is an ok masculine rose cologne for men with an air of mystique and good performance (and for only around $25 for 100 ml too). This is not that similar to Cartier Declaration d'un Soir (another one of my favourites) at all even though it has prominent rose and sandalwood notes. I would say it's very similar to Swiss Arabian's Sultan attar. I don't know of any other fragrances featuring vodka as a note though, so it's pretty unique. But overall I am not that impressed to be honest.

3.5/5

I am reviewing the "Gold is Bold" limited edition by the way (but I've heard it's identical to the regular version).

This is 90's classic, one of the very best I have smelt of its kind.

Rose, lavender, leather, peppers, patchouli, sandalwood - all the classic 90's must-blends in the right percentage, that is friendly to the nose, mind and soul. This is what makes Ungaro L'homme III still smells relevant today.

The drydown smells like Burberry Men EDT, but more raw, crisp, mature by a few years.

Projection is moderate to strong. Longevity is fantastic.

I miss Ungaro. It's great to learn that Ferragamo saves this treasure.

This is unbelievable, most heavenly, most enchantied, yet so gentle and super manly Rose fragrance.. I wonder what it was before all these reformulations and sintetic substituting on ingredients started.. it probably was the final success of the Alchemy.. it is still a perfection even in present, weak and sintetic era of colognes.. when I read negative reviews I wonder if there’re more than one reformulated versions.
I don’t know how to talk “cool” and appeal to you, guys, in calm manner to try it..
This was fragrance that once caused the lady, who happened to be near me, to open her eyes wide and turn her beautiful face to me, subconsciously! - and I am not kinda guy who just does it by “default” LOL; and you know what? - that was enough to cross the line of indifference for further conversation and interaction..
I think - this one truly deserves to be referred as “jewel” - many refer to fragrances here this way. Please try it when you have chance.
I don’t think it’s “clubby” though. Not sporty, not for “gym” either. When you’re driving your truck or meeting friends for beer - it’s not the time to wear it.. I think it’s for times when you want to open your heart to someone, to dare to hold hands, to close eyes and kiss.. or just to express that you yearn for all that when you are alone.
Ingredients here are transmuting into each other.. I can’t separate them, they are all like shades and petals of the perfect rose - not oriental, not overwhelming and poisonous, not voluptuous, not lipstick-like.. rose that is male gender, that reflects gentle and understanding sides of man, that is bringing sense about man as of not superficial and temporary. Your woman will love it. Try.

A classic, this is sophistication in a bottle,I'm a 49 year old man and a lover of fragrances since a teenager i currently have Ysl L'homme,Armani Diamonds just to name a few so you can see were I'm coming from and this bad boy launched in 1993 hangs with the best of today's frags,I'm not one to mention notes and chemical composition like many nerds here i believe people don't want to hear that they just want an honest take on a specific fragrance and this beauty is what i put on when I'm dressed up and ready to go with my sugar to a special occasion. (my review originally appeared on basenotes)

Of course it is fantastic.

Ungaro III is a very special scent, because it is modern yet at the same time decadent, lush and sensual yet masculine, tame at times yet underneath its cover, it is very provocative. I am one of those people who think that this is a very dark scent, and very smooth. I am sure it is one of the types of fragrances that women love a lot on men.

The opening is woodsy, spicy and citrus-y at the same time. This is a very refreshing idea for an opening: being very bold and multi-layered with varying ingredients. Vodka is an interesting note here. I know that most people usually detest this note if it is too raw, and why shouldn't they? But here, it seems to be broken down so well with lavender, that it reads as a note that adds an original dryness to the opening.

I think this scent is dark, not necessarily because of the combination of notes, but because of the idea behind it. There is something almost primeval and raw about it, at the same time it is obvious that the notes are meticulously mixed to create a very ethereal experience. It smells real and natural: there is nothing synthetic about the scent. I think what is the boldest move on the fragrances part is its heart notes which are all flowers! The much-discussed roses of this scent are very powerful, but they are not the pink/white innocent roses of YSL Paris. They are -what they must be- black and very dark maroon roses with a vengeance. They smell very cruel, and unforgiving, and move on your body like a ghost.

The scent has a very dark spirit to it: something creeping near behind almost, kind of sinister. I do not understand how people can say that this is a cheerful scent: on my skin, it is a total seducer who wants to get his next victim. It wants to attract people: it WANTS to be recognized and appreciated. The base of the scent is musky indeed with mossy woods and patchouli. It is an elegant part of the equation and compliments the roses very very well.

It is a skillful scent with a bold statement to make, and I would say I see this scent in the same category as Narcisso Rodriguez for Men (with heavy violets in that one rather than roses), Opium pour Homme (the infamous anise/vanilla combination) and Le Baiser du Dragon by Cartier. These all do not necessarily smell alike, make no mistake, but they are all mystical scents that feel raw and animalic enough to be deemed otherworld-ly, but elegant enough to be appreciated for their genuine beauty and darkness. Actually, I feel like this scent smells kind of close to even legendary Aramis with the musky, patchouli and woods combination along with the common green notes like vetiver and moss, and the un-feminized flowers.

Don't know, maybe it is just my nose.

The bottle is fantastic and very very chic by being jet-black with gold accents, and it matches the juice inside. And the way you almost uncork the cap is also stunning and a nice detail. Overall, one of the best scents around, and one that I am sure I will enjoy for many years to some.

Aleccsei

To me it was quite disappointing. I was was very anxious ´to have a scent with vodka and rose... but I didn't get any of those 2. I barely got any sage and that didn't even last too long.

Don't let the people that claim you need to get the original discourage you from trying the latest release. Far too many times I fell for that nonsense and hunted down vintage bottles only to find out the differences were so subtle nobody even noticed. Ungaro is no different. I have both the original from France, and the latest version with the large numbers III on the box and bottle. I purchased the latest version because my vintage bottle was getting low, only to find out they are virtually identical. The only difference I noticed is the original lasts a little longer and projects slightly more. I'm done listening to people here saying how vintage is superior on certainty fragrances because 8 out of 10 times the scent is the same and the only difference is the performance. This actual review is for the Gold and Bold release, that I am wearing today, and I do not see it yet listed on the site.
I bought the Gold & Bold just curios about if it was a really new addition to the regular formula which was in my top favorites back in the 90's and always grab compliments every time I wore it, but I do not notice too much difference between both, besides the difference on the golden packing and cap, well I did not put both bottles back to back I just remembered I got the new version and that I had and I had not worn it yet.
After almost 5 hours, I would say it has a shorter longevity that the regular Ungaro III and about sillage probably shorter as well.
It would good to read to some reviewers here that had compared both.

Update":
I did compare both later tonight and I my older bottle was more potent and I would say a better smell from the Bold and Gold, probably my regular bottle is kind of vintage now since I have it at least for four years.. maybe.. but I do remember the older version when the bottle used to come with a red cap, that was the one that drew compliments all the time.

aT FIRST I WAS put off by this fragrance.
But once it dried down it was a kind scent.
It's no beast, but don't over spray it.
It will stink once you go passed three sprays.
I wouldn't buy this again.
And this is going to last a long time in my collection.

Years ago as a young lad I stepped into the world of perfumes through ungaro pour L'homme 1991. That was a genuine masterpiece, an ultimate end for the floral rose based colognes. Unfortunately discontinued it is now a rarity, only to be purchased with a high price .

Ungaro III pursues the ungaro pour L' homme 1991 tradition but with a weaker body and more rose aroma. A modest substitue for that famous one, and for me a reminder of that unforgettable gem. Whenever I apply ungaro III a sense of melancholy engulfs me, because of the wonderful memories I had with the original one that I will have no chance of their repeat, but anyhow this available version is not bad at all, it is in fact one of the best rose perfumes for men.

A gentleman with a suit will match up with this cologne, sure it is not a sport perfume to be worn by a young fellow, it needs a man of distinguished character and sensibilty to show its capabilities.

For the vintage one made in France and first line in Italy, not the one from 2005 and up. It deserves 4 and half stars as like for other two twins! They are inmortal in my soul...

We have the ORIGINAL version of this fragrance and my husband smells divine with it on. It is so perfect for his body chemistry that it is probably the only fragrance that has this kind of affect on me and others. It is spectacular. It also lasts through showers for two days minimum.

I rarely react to fragrance on my husband like this one causes me to react. As for older person- he has been wearing this since he was young and it was still sophisticated on him then. People think he is famous all of the time and this scent definitely adds to that effect.

From descriptions, I am thinking the new one will be nothing like it used to be so he will have to ration the old one even more saving it for special occasions.

Soofiya

I'm a rose lover but since I have such conservative ideas :) I believed that rose is in territory of feminine scents, honestly I thought a rosey male fragrance is not a good idea and I hated the only rose dominant male fragrance I've tested before, dsquared royal black
Ungaro III taught me my lesson, this is lovely!
It opens with dominant lavender and citrus notes and just a hint of watery vodka..since I love lavender in male Colognes I enjoy the opening part but main story just begins when the floral heart blooms, ofcourse rose is superstar, but not a delicate feminine rose,it doesn't remind rosewater either, this is a dark, masculine rose blooming mysteriously on a woodsy base
It's sophisticated and sensual, this IS floral, rosey and has a warm, sweet undertone but is nothing near feminine,it's manly even in a sexy way
I love it when a scent is fresh and warm the same time, this one has this quality and is wearable year round,it's not a very young, sporty, boyish fragrance,it's manly and better for +25
Longevity and sillage are more than moderate
❤❤❤❤

August 2016. Definitely reformulated around 2015/2016.

Still a hint of the old Ungaro III but now it has become a very offensive cheap lavender and musk fragrance. I am currently heartbroken.

If you dislike stinging lavender scents then this is not the one for you! this aint aromatic no more :'(

scent : 6/10
sillage : 8/10
longevity :8/10
60% day/ 40% night fragrance
old school and boozy scent
reminds me of Polo green + vodka

no-fi

Ungaro III is simply the best boozy floral aromatic scent because, frankly, it really is the only boozy floral aromatic. It truly is quite unique.

The vodka note at the beginning is very intense. On my skin, it's a watery alcohol note that is almost aquatic. Next comes the floral notes and spices, dominated by that gorgeous rose. The aromatic green heart is pleasant, with the florals and spices lingering throughout.

Sadly, I can't wear this unique scent because the intense vodka note doesn't sit right with me. It's not unpleasant, but it also doesn't wow me - and such a dominant note has to impress. Regardless, Ungaro III is an impressive and unique work of perfumery - and because it can still be had for a steal, it's worth a try.

the_badger

Ahh the famous Ungaro III... I got myself the bottle with the three big I's and this is what I think.

Scent. I thought this was going to be something that would absolutely blow my mind but when I finally got a hold of it, reminded me of a cheap clone perfume called "Dark Rose". I am sure it must be some cheap molecule that was used a lot in the 90's, some mix of super E ISO probably since it has like a cardboard kind of smell. Moving along, the rose starts to make its way, and this is not a light rose, its dark and harsh, like the one found Declaration d'un Soir. Honestly, I did not like this part, I would have settled with just the opening.

Projection. Average.

Longevity. Below average designer performance but don't fret, just layer it with Super E Iso and you should be good.

I was too young in 1993 to have known the original formula so I will talk about the new one.

MINDBLOWN O_O !!! Omg... This is what I call an awesome yet "cheap" masterpiece nowadays. It has everything what an aromatic gem should have. Floral and woody at its finest. All these flowers give to this one a gentle, soft and "feminine" touch, enhanced by the woody counterpart, thanks to the cedar, the coriander and the vetiver.

The perfect balance for a gentleman perfume, respectful about the feminine side in every man. Not like these ones nowadays which shout "Look ! i'm an obnoxious playboy whom play with girls like tools !" These ones which are nothing but something which shout "SEXBOMB, SEXBOMB, SEXBOMB !"

And gosh, the signature note, the vodka ! THAT vodka ! Which gives to this masterpiece the unique touch to this versatile and complete mixture.

10 out of 10. Thanks Ungaro for making yet these forgotten 80/90's androgynous smells. These ones which capture what a man should be. Being a man is to be respectful of ladies and assuming our feminity, not being a male with balls and testosterone.

chef.peporr

FINALLY!!! I laid my hands on a 1993 Ungaro III Original Formula (Red box, red cap, made in france). So this review is for the ORIGINAL 1993 FORMULA:

The first time i bought Ungaro III was in the mid 2000's based on reviews and recommendations from here. I really like it! i knew it was a reformulation but i couldn't get the original. As I said, i like it, i finished the bottle and never bought it again. It was a nice fragrance, nothing else, but i couldn´t get my mind off that original formula...

So, one month ago a friend of mine from France that is a fragrance enthusiast said to me "My friend, i have a NIB 1993 Ungaro III", immediately I said "SEND IT TO ME!" It was 150 USD but what the heck...

As soon as i got the box i sprayed two times on my wrist... I have to say i got dissapointed by the opening, it smelled almost identical to Polo Green... Too much wood, none of the roses or vodka everybody was talking about... 20-30 minutes after... OH MY GOD... I cannot describe this otherwise than PERFECTION... It settled down amazingly!! The rose note burst out, vodka, lavender and some coriander. 3-4 hours and it evolves into some kind of musky-citrusy-cozy smell. It has an amazing power and sillage, women loves it... It really is ONE HELL OF A FRAGRANCE...

Scent 10/10
Sillage 10/10
Duration 10/10

Reformulated Ungaro III it's ok; but if you like it and can lay hands on an original 1993 formula GO FOR IT. Be cautious though... There are some "original batches" made in Italy with red box but black cap. It's not the same juice I'm talking about. Check those three elements: red box, red cap and made in France.

UPDATE

So I decided to save my original 1993 formula and buy one of the actual bottles. So disapointed... I'm talking the new formula that comes in a black box with a big gold III on the front. It's still Ungaro III but the longevity and sillage are just awful and smells like watered down... I have 2 NIB with cellophane last formula (black box but with the III in bright black) for sale. If anybody is interested message me. I'm in Mexico.

A classic and classy spicy aromatic opening. But somehow muted and numb. Like meeting an intelligent friend who got too drunk.
It's dark and soft. But too diluted, and light. Like meeting some young gothic chic who smiles too much.
Ungaro III is a rose with bright red petals, green stem and black leaves. But no thorns.

Extremely nice dry down.

Godinezmarco

I enjoy and like this one but it has very weak sillage

boulouboulou

Soooo easy to wear, so easy to like !
For those who compares it to Zino, i would say this one is younger and less complex.
Still performs well and the notes are delightfull.

Personnaly i find it on the generic side, but i do like it very much, though.

Nice and cheap. Smells good, in every situation : versatile.

tetsuoyouth

The rose not reminds me of the mango in Paris Hilton Man. No doubt I'd choose this one over PHM since it is a refined fragrance and has a darker note most likely attributed to the wood note. Must buy cheapie!

siririschmoos

UNGARO III, it's listed as an AROMATIC, I guess what puts it in this category is the vodka.

I'm surprised that some people think of it as a cooler weather scent. It's airy, light, vodka-esque with a light rose in the background.

I can see why some might think of "bug spray" upon initial application. It eventually smooths out though and just stays airy and, to me, seems close to the skin.

I get a soft-pink-rose note in that background. Not feminine though, at least to me.

Summer or Spring, I will definitely be wearing this.

Cricot2

can someone associate this scent with some songs, please? maybe, this is the easiest way to understand this scent...

thank you!

What does the original smell like? I have no idea, but it comes in a red box with a red cap. I LOVE the reformulation that came after that in a black box with small, central text and big shiny black III's as the backdrop. But this review isn't for either of these. No. This scent was reformulated AGAIN, and I approximate it to 2014-2015 when it happened. Be very aware that the cologne you have known has changed for the worse. You can identify the newest reformulation by the black box with a huge emphasis on the golden III's.

I usually get annoyed at the moaning towards reformulations, but I found myself in the position for once. They truly did alter one of my favorite fragrances and transformed it into an expensive body spray. The first reformulation was incredible. It was a strong projector with woody notes intermingled with dark, spicy rose and booze. Be wary if you're buying new boxes because the most obvious difference is the minimal projection. One inch from my arm after applying it almost brings nothing to my nostrils. I have to press my nose into wherever I sprayed it to even experience it. No one notices this on me like the previous Ungaro. The part that breaks my heart the most is the systematic removal of the rose and vodka. I smell NEITHER while they are almost all you can smell in the old version for the first 30 minutes.

Now does the new reformulation smell good? As a matter of fact, yes. It smells like opening an old, empty wooden desk drawer in a thrift store- pleasantly woody. However, the tradeoff of projection and the rose accords for an immediate dive into the base notes is not worth it. If you want the old version, I recommend buying a tester on ebay with the "III" being small and in the center of the bottle. The new version has rather big "III's" on the bottle. Seriously, if you're going to spend $20-$25, get the scent the majority of us fell for to begin with instead of whatever they're trying to pass as Ungaro III today.

Because the reformulation is relatively new, many on here are still getting the older one when they buy it new, so they will rate it positively. However, pay attention to many of the newer reviews emphasizing a lack of projection. I might be the first person to even realize it was reformulated again.

EDIT MAY 2015:

Out of sheer luck, I actually got the chance to experience the first formula of this from 1993 via a half-empty vintage bottle online. Might I say that it projects VERY well! Surprisingly, though, I prefer the first reformulation that I blabbed about in this review as the booze/rose notes are more pronounced. In a hilariously unexpected twist of events, the newest formula smells more like the one from 1993! However, it's projection is horrendous. I ultimately resold my vintage bottle if only because the woodsy notes were uncharacteristically too prominent. But then again, it's an old bottle that might've been above someone's toilet in a cabinet for 22 years. Who knows what it's supposed to smell like ;)

Dead Memories

I purchased this online and it was 2 days ago that i recieved it , now lets get on with a little review :
first spray , its a blast of alcohol (vodka) then adds to the mix smell of lemon and coriander , i dont get the lavender nor saga and orange , 5 min later the top is gone which is good im not a fan any way , then in the middle i get a lot of rose and a bit (only a bit) geranium no lotv nor jasmin here again! , the good thing is the rose is so good and masculine and its light it wont get on your nerves , the dry down is the best part musky woody with ROSE (dominating)! so totally this frag is abut rose which is present through the whole notes that it makes this frag I(some how) one could say its almost linear but again smells good.as time of use it could be weared any time any day its almost all year arounder ! :) but i would say fall and spring - night time - and not so formal places are the best preferences ;) and one more good thing its cheap! almost :D

This review is about the latest version or reformulation.

When I smelled this cologne for the first time, I quickly fell in love with it.
The first note which came to my mind was Rose! But not a cheap and harsh smell of rose like Tearose cologne.
It has a refind, very natural and luxurious scent of rose.

The juice is balanced very well. There is no extra sweetness or anything harsh to my nose.

Frankly I haven't smelled vodka but I can detect a kind of woody scent beside the rose, probably it is vetiver, mahogany and or sandalwood with a touch of oakmoss which balance the rose note.

The scent is thoroughly beautiful and yummy from the beginning to drydown. At drydown the rosr is still noticeable beside a bit musk, sandalwood and oakmoss. The drydown is really fantastic and comforting.

The longevity is acceptable and IMO above average. It lasts longer than "Quorum" which I have.
The sillage is moderat but noticeable.

Longevity: Very good, long lasting specially on clothes and fabrics.

Sillage: A bit above average and noticeable for hours and hours.

Heart note: Rose

Scent: Luxurious, comforting and somehow sexy...

After a few wearing of this fragrance, I really do like it! This is the best rose dominant fragrance that I have tried as of yet. The rose is candied, semi sweet and dark. Yes a man can wear this very comfortably! The base notes make this a very palatable and mature scent. The duration of this fragrance is about 5-6 hours with 4 sprays. It does come off strong at first 1-2 hour point and ramps down pretty quickly from there to a skin scent though. Great for a night out. I think if you were wearing this for a day scent it would need to be reapplied. Yes after 6 hours I can faintly detect it on my skin maybe a little better on cloths...

Just love the drydown! The zing of the vodka vibe evaporates off the top 1-2 hour point leading into the blended lavender, patchouli and sandalwood smoothness. The base of floral musk and woods into the drydown. The wonderful rose... can be detected through out the life of the scent.

So I got a chance to smell this before I purchased it and was intrigued from the beginning. Because of the unique scent cloud it does create compared to the price point of around $25. It does standout in being different from any other scent I own... well worth the investment to my collection!

LeBart

This one is really special. Imagine what would be the smell of the black rose, dark and mysterious. This is it, with vodka vibe and orange opening. This is the favourite perfume of Count Dracula for sure.

I love it and rate it 10/10.

Edit:
On my skin it lasts all day long. I can smell it on my clothes even tomorrow. Rather mature and conservative scent.

I have tried this only yesterday!. What an elegant, sensual and masculine fragrance. I understood why it stood the test of time.

Probably less versatile, but the dry down is heavenly.

واقعا عالی خوشبو ماندگار با پخش بوی متوسط به بالا

kisherceg

Just a little warning...if I can give you an amicably advice: do NOT blind-buy this scent.
I did that and this was a mistake.
My skin does not work well with boozy notes, I could know (former horror-experience with C.Lacroix Absynthe for men).
Well, I tried this scent so many times, in cooler then in warmer weather, in winter, in spring, in summer, at least 7-8 times..but...the final effect -on me- always the same: tons of rotten oranges mixed with withered roses soaked in a sea of cheap, stinky vodka.
Nothing else, no sophistication, no nice flowers, no patchouli, no woods, no vetiver, only that rotten-alcoholic smell around me..and this effect is unfortunately very long lasting, sticks to my skin even after trying to wash off :(
Try it on your skin before you buy...

abcmore

Honestly to me this smells like laundry detergent.

adypress

just picked this one up today. this cologne is an absolute masterpiece, very beautiful rose smell mixed in with vodka, i love it!!!

Housebliss

My bottle is from 2003.

I've used this a couple of times, and to be honest I didn't really like it that much. Last night I sprayed once on the inside of my arm. A couple of hours ago I took a shower. I was walking around the office earlier, and I thought someone smelled so good (I shouldn't be writing reviews at work but oh well..). To my surprise Ungaro III is still lingering on my arm, and it smells wonderful. It smells clean and fresh.

I put on Green by Byredo this morning, but Ungaro just cut right through. How's that for longevity and sillage? 12+ hours, after a shower, and still projecting.

The opening is harsh, but the drydown is ace. I'll be wearing this more often.

daynierds

Not a bad smell at all, specially for that price, it does smell a bit dated....but actually not that much, performance is average to good, I imagine someone over 40 really rocking this...still not for me...but great value for the money indeed...

cdresz

This has a sharp "insect repellant" scent for the first few seconds. That's the first thing that dries down thankfully.

I have several geranium note scents. So I can really pick it out. I agree with many reviewers note breakdown, but I think both geranium and lemon are more predominant in this juice than other reviewers have scored it.

During cold weather I apply 5 to 6 sprays and get 10hrs. During the summer I apply 3 sprays and get about 15hrs.

Voters have pegged this as a "winter" scent, but I think it works well all year long. Obviously I apply less, but this smells crisp and refreshing enough to stay in my "summer" rotation.

The Vodka/Rose note is sophisticated! Different fragrances really do give me distinct "feelings" or confidence as some say. Ungaro always makes me feel "put together".

AndreiCristian

Why ? JUST WHY ?
So good fragrance with beautifull smell ruined all becouse sillage and longevity is crap !

Scent 11/10 , its just perfect for all day,so sexy and elegant , for a young gentelman , all sesons , all ocasions ( date , job , nightout , just perfect for all )

Projection 1/10 (on my skin is awfull )
Longevity 4/10 ( 3-4h only with 2 sprays on my arm )
Price 10/10 ( for only 20$ ? yea ... sure their are some better choise , but ... this smell too go to dont have it )

Overall 9/10 , great scent , if your skin is made for this your the luckyest guy ever ! This scent is special made for guys who has a good taste.

Disclaimer: the review is of the 'regular' Ungaro III (still on sale), not its Parfum Aromatique version.

Meet the sublime side of the Nineties.
Sharp citric opening, reminiscent of a classic EDC. Very interesting floral development, complex without being sweet. Beautiful woody-floral drydown. And all this luxury is enveloped in some cool blue haze.
Longevity is decent, sillage is moderate.
An elegant and versatile scent, suitable for a night out, romantic evening or a busy office day.
And (here's a personal note) the closest thing to my long-gone favorite, the original Calvin by Calvin Klein, introduced eight years earlier. Development and and especially drydown are different, but the opening is quite similar.
Stay out of the crowd, enjoy Ungaro III, these days you can get it dirt cheap.

durbha75

I got my bottle of Ungaro III the day before yesterday. I bought it online, a blind buy influenced by the reviews here. I have worn it yesterday and today. My reviews:-

Day 1. Opening notes smelt like orange flavored vodka with some medicinal bitterness thrown in. Quite pungent and nostril-searing. In around an hours time, it seemed to become a green and spicy smell akin to an aromatic green (think Halston 1-14). The smell of nutmeg dominated, and the rose note never came up. I was disappointed and was sure I had gotten a raw deal. However, I went with it today on Day 2.

Day 2:-

Inexplicably, the vodka note isn't there. It smells hugely sweet and lemony, reminding me of Burberry Classic. This time though, around an hour or so later, I started getting the famed rose note. As time passed, the note became more prominent. Towards the dry down, it was a mellow rose tempered with some spice (which I still feel is nutmeg!).

Overall review: Ungaro III is everything it is famed to be. A very exclusive, offbeat perfume which pushes the masculine/ feminine argument to the edge. Very smooth in the later part of its life, it easily lasts 10+ hours on me, though for nearly 8 hours it is close to the skin. But these lovely wafts of spiced rose keep coming in every now and then, making the whole thing a pleasure to wear (especially at the cheap buying price). A definite thumbs up from me.

jude1321

Honestly, I have had over 250 bottles of cologne in my life. Ungaro III, plain and simple, is the most underrated juice that I have ever come across. I mean, seriously, you can buy this sexy, amazing, beautiful juice for like $25 on ebay, sealed. In my opinion, after Le Male, Ungaro III is the best smelling fragrance ever made.

bozotheclown

I have a large collection of niche and designer and this is the most underrated fragrance ever can't believe its only $25

jozemo

i'm back, in the words of halle berry from monsters ball"make feel good" this the edt does just that! when it drydown on my skin, It is a inexpensive elegant scent that should be in a gentleman's collection.

kaju23

First few times I sprayed it I didn't notice anything special, sillage was poor with good longevity, I was quite sad after reading some of the reviews here. After two weeks of using it I got first compliment from a friend, and boy was I surprised! She said that I smell of elegance and it is the most amazing scent she ever smelled and she wants to remember it forever. Seriously, I was stunned. After that I started to notice the power of Emanuel Ungaro III, longevity is still very good and sillage got better, it truly is the fanciest and the most beautiful scent there is. An amazing mix of notes that's gonna make you feel comfortable and classy.

crunker

At first, Ungaro seems cheap and somewhat offensive, but when it dries down, it's a real hit with the women. Surprisingly, I've gotten some of my most memorable compliments while wearing Ungaro, and I wear many high-end fragrances(at least higher-end than this one).

The spray-on is heavily alcoholic and woody, but the dry-down has rich woody and musky scents that have a lingering patchouli in the background. It's strong, but not overwhelming, and for a cheaper fragrance it lasts pretty long, maybe 6-7 hours. As a throw around cologne or an emergency bottle to keep in the car, Ungaro is great. It reminds me of a lumberjack in a nightclub.

dosojosnegros

you're crazy!(no offense) i have both and don't find them similar at all. i can't even wear the Kanon KO. Ungaro 111 is fantastic. like a flower infused spirit. it lasts all day and night on me.

ZELJO

only one word to describe that one, ELEGANCE

Normad

I bought this based on all the great reviews. I was very surprised. Not in the way you might think. Yes, it smells great, BUT, when I applied it, it smelled so very familiar. It came to me almost immediately, so I went and grabbed my $6 bottle of Kanon KO and sprayed it on my other arm. 2 squirts of each on each arm. They open nearly identically. In fact, I could find very little difference. I was surprised as they dried down that KO had drastically better sillage and longevity than UIII, which isn't saying much! KO also seemed to smell better for longer than UIII. UIII kind of morphs into something not as pleasant as its opening. And, I paid $35 for the UIII at TJ Maxx. I tested them side by side a couple more times to confirm. Back the UIII went. Now I'm extremely happy with my $6 Kanon KO purchase. Has anyone else made this comparison, or am I crazy?

Cheadle

I like to do some research when I'm ready to add to my collection. I have used UIII twice before that's how good I think it is.. and just yesterday I come across this Gold edition limited etc.

First reaction: I was kinda annoyed it was not different

Later: Its all comng back now.. One of the best cold weather / evening fragrances, which also works well as a formal daytime fragrance when applied sparingly.

The gold edition is same as the oringal and that's not necessarily a bad thing

Ungaro III (vintage/made in Italy) is a perfect illustration of how a masculine floral should be constructed. Dark roses are in abundance, yet the effect is incredibly masculine and fresh due to the sharpness of a Vodka note. It's dark coolness comes across as sexy, sophisticated and unique; a highly appealing formula and many women adore this scent on a man. Quite simply a stunning male floral, my favourite rose scent next to the legendary Égoïste.

wachirael94

Today i ve just got a blind order from Fragrancex of a MARVELLOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS fragrance. That s UNGARO III. At the 1st spray, I did smell rosessssssss, even though they should appear at the middle notes.

It does not disappoint me at all. It's truly classy as a male fragrance, even though it comprises a blend of roses.

I'm rather sure that I will buy another when I have finished this bottle.

hernie

I used it in 1994 for the first time. It' s absolutely beautiful with a sillage and longevity above average fragrances. I think it has been reformulated but it soul remains the same. I can't find it in my country but in Miami. Love it sooooo much!

Bbjr

Sorry but the reformulated stuff is just a fruity version of every other fragrance out there today. One of the worst fragrances I've smelled in quite some time.

johnnyjazz

An outstanding concoction that manages to balance diverging notes with ease, fusing elements of floral, herbal, spicy and citric into a fantastic creation of class and sophistication suited for all ages. This beautiful composition offers the wearer a new experience with every wear, the layers here don't completely unveil themselves until 15-20 wears down the road, when one can really sample the sophisticated evolution and changes L'Homme III has to offer. Extremely underrated and absolutely essential for those who think beyond flashy bottles of Thierry Mugler and Jean Paul Gaultier as being statements of class and sophistication. Couldn't begin to do justice to this fine cologne by breaking down the notes. Suffice to say projection and longevity are moderate to above average, the real beauty here being the wonderful and reserved scent itself, lacking pretense and instead letting its multi-faceted character do all the talking. An absolute must for the man with enough class to know flashy and tacky aren't what scores a sophisticated woman.

abhisforever

So I read a lot about it before going forward with the buy. If you ask me to describe it, I would be lost as I cant find a precise word for it. But if one has to give it a name then it would be complex.

I smell the rose and I smell the Vodka but I can also smell some sheer class. Make no mistake, this one will make people notice you.

I like things which make me think, I give this one a sure double 10/10!

michael.j

I blind-bought this based on reviews. One of my best blind-buys. It delivers and then some. Absolutely delighted with the complexity and contrasts of this. This makes the tone-deaf aquatics and the audibly spicy syrups seem even more adolescent. This is not old-fashioned; it is timeless in the way that Eau Sauvage and Yatagan are timeless. I'm usually skeptical of designer fragrances because they're not about smell; they're low cost entry points into a brand's universe for Brittany and Bubba Spraycheese. The smell-as-brand-experience is invariably a colorful swill wrapped in the lust and luster of backstory and implausible nudity (I'm looking at you, Versace). There's certainly nothing wrong with wanting to make a buck off your perfume, even with naked people on cars, rocks, yachts, sun decks, rocks on yachts, sun decks on cars, etc. Duh, it's a business. But Just look at the latest string of embarrassingly cynical and childish releases from Fendi, Gucci, Ferragamo and Versace (weird that they're all Italian). None compare to Ungaro III in attention to layering, blending and sheer range of notes. Ungaro III reflects a commitment to a particular type of experience, not a faddish, brand-resident identity. Many frags have disappeared because they were selling an ephemeral model of personhood, not a smell. That Ungaro III is still in production and stubbornly popular today is clear evidence of its ability to transcend fashion. This is one of the reasons why Demachy and Polge are the respected figures they are in contemporary perfumery -- because they produce stunners like Ungaro III.

LustandFury

Reformulated Version: I liked this quite a bit. I'm on the hunt for a good rose forward scent and this was suggested to me. I couldn't quite place what it reminded me of but then it hit me. The heart and base really smell like Creed's Aventus. A bit more rose in the composition but the comparison is unmistakable.

mihanesabz

It is perfect but not for everyday use! I think every man should have one and use it once or twice a week. I am sure all the senators, presidents, actors got one! BUY IT RIGHT NOW!!!!

iammyping

This is simply stunningly elegant fragrance. In terms of composition of the scent itself it is without the question or shadow or doubt classiest man fragrance I have ever put my nose on, but...After two-three hours...Just like that, it's gone. Just a tiny hint of a smell. It wouldn't be so bad if the sillage was even moderate. But it simply isn't. From the beginning to the end- You have to have Your nose bury in wrist or neck to smell it.
In short:
9,9/10 for the scent,
1,1/10 for sillage and logetivity.

Mr.Bobby.N

I bought this as a gift for my father (after reading it's reviews regarding scent and age-appropriatness here), and before giving it to my dad, I sprayed a little on my wrist to make sure it wasn't horrid... and I really liked it!

Needless to say, I kept UNGARO III for myself and got my father another gift.

This is cool, sharp, imperial & sweet.
Pure class... a timeless scent.

Parfum de drague.

Senteur 10/10.

Calificacion General 9/10

jivanshi

@Redbeard: hmm, that's strange! I have used a sample a couple of times, and the problem I had was that it lasted quite a while, but with zero projection! On my skin, the heart and the drydown is beautiful, with a subtle rose, and I really like it, but it's only a skin scent, sadly... I will give it another try, this time also on the shirt, I really want a masculine frag based around rose, and there aren't many choices - either this, or Cartier Declaration d'un soir.

Redbeard

I got the new version blind for $12, and figured it couldn't be that bad. The top and middle were nice enough, but the base just smelled like wilted roses in a horror movie sanatorium...sickly, persistent and floral. I felt like I could almost but not quite place what real-world object it smelled like. The sillage reached an alarming distance from the piece of cloth that I had tested it on. People probably would smell it but wouldn't even realize the smell was coming from a person, especially a man. I probably could have stuck with it, but it just wasn't worth the mental effort.

NobleRoman

Blind buy because I usually agree with mr mookie! Yes, there are roses on top with a classy dry down. A real bargain, buy it if you find it. Thank you mr mookie

robertodoi

Fantastic Woody Floral & Sweet Spicy Fragrance. Totally wearable by men since 20' in any weather, day or night. A very nice option for the perfume lovers. I think women will love it too, cause the floral notes are seductive.

which did perfumer ungaro iii ????

RUDOLFO512

I bought this fragrance again after many, many years of not using it. I am thrilled that Ungaro III has maintained it's masculine and elegant formula. The rose and lavender are a masterpiece in this fragrance. I wore it to the office this morning and already I have gotten 4 compliments.

vonzigdarke

According to my nose: Rose petals marinated in vodka infused Jello shots in an expensive wooden ice tray, a fruit platter and "Lips like sugar...sugar kisses."

Bought this on sale at Perfumania based on reviews. With all the opinions here, I knew it would be interesting if nothing else. That being said, I am not sure what all the fragrance is up to. It would depend on if you are wearing it for yourself or hunting compliments.

I got plenty of compliments just the same. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a gourmand, rather what I always wanted out of a gourmand without smelling like Captain Jack rolling in tobacco leaves and molasses (AKA Dirty English).

I applied this as soon as I bought it-I thought I kept sniffing to try and guess the notes but I was also loving it. The notes changed on me from hour to hour-something like everlasting Gobstopper and all of it was great.

I have horrible dry skin so longevity is a problem with any EDT. Ungaro III goes on strong for the first few minutes but not to the point of killing people. A four to six blast encounter is fine 30 minutes before you leave home.

I would call this a classic scent not as in older man, but if Camelot had a boutique; Ungaro would be the headliner-it's mysterious in a sexy way.

Due to the combined compliments and fact that I cannot leave it alone, I give it a 10. It is filed next to my No-Fail serum, Chanel Egoiste Platinum.

Cheers.

Legolas

The bottle is masterpiece! it's just beautiful, and the juice inside is;rose, vodka and woody notes on a manly way.. sexy and elegant.. on me longevity was 6-8h,and projection first 3-4h really good.. great fragrance..

"Giraffes didn't exist until Chuck Norris uppercutted a horse."

You know, you might like Chuck Norris but he was kinda a jerk back in the day. He would always be doing these showoff sidekicks at parties trying to impress the ladies. Me? I would sit back and watch to see which ones actually were impressed. My type was the gal who would laugh at what a fool he was makin himself out to be and that's the lady i would talk to - and if i had me some Ungaro III that's the lady i would leave with!

One night at one of these highfalutin Hollywood parties many years later, I sat back and watched ... but I wasn't alone I brought along a bottle of Ungaro III. i knew Chuck was goin through some rough stuff abd he would be back to doin his usual stuff ... this was in the ninties and he was getting pretty far past his prime.
He was striking out big. His kicks lost their spring. The ladies didn't even give him a second look. They were all gathering around Steven Segal with his hair slicked back. He was humming somethin about breaking some guys arm. The ladies were giggling like school girls ... except for one and then I knew what I had to do.
I stepped over to Chuck and said : "Hey friend what's with the clown frown?" me and Chuck went way back.
"Ah, I just ain't got it anymore brudah" he said.
"Chuck, you're barkin up the wrong tree. This ain't your game anymore. Time to grow up." i said and i sprayed him with the Ungaro III.
His slouched back straightened - his frown turned upside-down. Something clicked and I told him give that one gal a try. Needless to say he stepped away with the lady. I know she could have been mine but sometimes you just gotta step aside for a friend who's climbin that wall.

I don't know what it is about Ungaro III. It makes you feel kind and almost like you know something few people know. Like you've been through it and you're better for it. What I mean is it has a good comfortable age to it, sophistication and poise. It doesn't try hard but it is hard ya know? It's fresh and upbeat without being young and in your face. Ungaro III is the middle aged Chuck Norris of colognes and yah know what - I don't care what anyone says, that's a beautiful thing!

I discovered this perfume accidentaly while testing others. As soon as the perfume touched my skin I knew it had to be mine and bought it right away.. it has became my signature perfume and everyone who smells it loves it.

I love it because it's not a common fragance people can recongize or smell anywhere, so that's why it's become MINE!

sobluedeep

So perfect!

To me this is a very citrus floral scent i don't get a lot of rose until the end but its there. The lavender is very faint and the geranium and orange seem to dominate. It does smell boozy, not like rum more like straight moonshine. I like it but there is a note in it which gives a very synthetic smell. I guess that's why it not too expensive. Not bad for a aftershave type of smell.

lateeeno

Loewe esencia . A photo copy . Daring and sharp to the bones . Green and mossy in a crazy way . The dry down is way better than the opening . In 30 minutes u get the best of it .

Projection : average
Longevity : very good
Smell : excellent once it dries down

sunnysniffs

still loving this scent. Fall season again and three sprays of this gentle elegant fragrance and I'm in bliss.

Can't see the hate comments on this one. I really think this deserves more respect than it gets.

New formulation review:
I struggled to find a time to wear this and it finally hit me, this is for those special times with your significant other. To my inexperienced nose, it starts off pretty sharp with the vodka note, but it levels out to a floral baby powder smell, lol. It's a very soft scent (Sillage is fantastic) and will fit perfectly if you plan on laying rose petals all over the bed and preparing a nice dinner for your partner. And please please please, do not overspray this one - there is no need.
UPDATE:
Despite liking this fragrance, I ended up giving it away because its not versatile and doesn't fit my style.

Go4broke

Im not sure what to make of ungaro III. It is unquestionably an elegant, complex yet well blended fragrance but Im finding this one a little old fashioned (im 33). I cant figure out if the rose note sits on the right side of masculine or not. As much as I appreciate this frag, I cant bring myself to wear it on a night out. If I do, i'll let you know how it went. ;-)
