This isn't as spicy and cinnamon like as it was back in the day. It's much weaker now but I layered it on top of pink sugar berry blast and it emits a unique beautiful scent. I don't know why I came up with this combination but I like it.

IgotExpensiveHabits

Ok I got diamonds and emeralds and sent it back immediately it was so green and gross.
This was the follow up to that purchase, but I didn’t like this either, so I said it in my back room and was prepared to sell it. Fast forward two months later, and it has matured into this beautiful, juicy peach perfume. Undertones of almond, vanilla, and powder are very very light and very very much in the background but it’s mostly peaches and light light florals that I can’t discern. Spray and set and forget for awhile, then revisit.
YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
It does have a lot of alcohol so if you empty the sprayer and set it on its side in a cool dark place it really grows up.
Upon spraying on skin, Let that alcohol burn off for a sec before you take a whiff.
Lasts days on a sweater. Projection is great for the first six hours, rolls off the skin and clothes. Then becomes a skin scent but does not disappear.

My fave this spring with Shalimar edt.

I have been wanting to try other flankers or the Diamond series by Elizabeth Taylor. I was able to get my hands on Diamonds & Rubies for less than $10. It is very fruity and flowery on me. The notes breakdown says peach is in it but on me I am getting more of a strawberry vibe. It doesn’t project much on me with 6 sprays but I can smell it on my skin for well over 3 hours. I don’t get the spices either. Just a lovely well blended female scent that will not offend anyone.

It doesn’t turn mega powdery like White Diamonds does on me and doesn’t last as long as my Diamonds & Sapphires but for the price I got it, I don’t mind one single bit.

To push the longevity and scent profile even more, try layering with perfume oils and you would be amazed. Today, I wore it with Si Intense perfume oil and it is absolutely beautiful with a stronger sillage.

So if you like fruity flowery scents, go for Diamonds & Rubies especially if you can get it for less than $15.

This is my mom's signature scent that she's worn since I was a kid. It smells absolutely luxurious and has not changed since she first started wearing it. All the notes blend together for a beautiful, unique scent with great projection. I would absolutely have this in my rotation if it wasn't her signature scent.

honeybunny1977

You really need to wear this in order to get a sense of how these notes come together. Sophia Grojsman is a master perfumer who created my all time favorite perfume called Paris by YSL. (and Tresor, Eternity) I think she is brilliant at floral compositions. Diamonds and Rubies is a warm floral with nuances of peach, lily of the valley and lilac. Its very unique! It does have a vintage quality which still holds up for me - I enjoy this uplifting floral scent. Its probably more inexpensive than it ever has been so for $12 you might want to try it if you enjoy florals.

I’m on my second bottle. Definitely a 90s gem. Reminds me of Tresor and Sun Moon & Stars. Not perfectly identical, but similar enough for me. It makes a statement. You get noticed but you don’t “knock people out”. Vintage yet modern.

Aeiris81

Sparkly, juicy, over the top. Works well in winter, I can't imagine wearing it during warmer seasons because of the powdery note which needs cold in order for this beautiful, fizzy concoction to stay soapy and fresh. That being said, it's the perfect season to wear it and I love it.

Powdery Evoked Carnation with Rose, Almond & a Vintage Vibe...

I heard about this scent for along time, and now that I've finally got to test it, I'm not disappointed. There's alot going on in the notes, but I will do my best to describe what I get: opens with a rose that's sweet & powdery with soft floral & almond-wood tones. The spicy notes in the heart include some cinnamon & nutmeg, that help the scent to transition into a spicy rose that leans to carnation with a vintage vibe, while ylang supports the fruity facets of the rose, and heliotrope supports the powdery, vanilla facets. The longer it dries down, the sweeter it gets with vanilla and sandalwood with everything held together by benzoin-amber. There are some similarities to the original White Diamonds Elizabeth Taylor, but this is rosier and leans more to carnation as it's drying down rather than tuberose. This isn't a dupe of anything, but I can see the similarities to Trésor Lancôme with peach, but this is rosier, with a powdery, carnation-leaning rose as the star of the show. I'm a longtime fan of carnation, so it's a love for me. Enjoy!

Just bought this because I had a feeling it would be similar to 'True Love'. Similar notes same fragrance maker. And indeed it does very much remind me of EA's 'True Love' yet better projection. I have only sprayed this once. I feel I won't be disappointed. I try not to repeat buy fragrances anymore.
The heliotrope like in 'Diamonds and Emeralds '. Stands out. This is a super strong note on my fine self. At 17$ Aus dollars it was a bargain I could gift myself for Christmas as it is Christmas Eve as I pen this.
Overall it's a well rounded scent with. Tresor vibe yet not so Peachy. Very much a big sister if True Love. I'll come back when I more to add.
Merry Christmas to you all.

evavidal62

For me this is a holiday party Christmas fragrance. It's got a soft warm spicy feel to it, like a cozy delicious festive gourmand scent even before they called it gourmands. The peach is like peach syrup and it comes through in the opening and stays strong throughout the performance of the perfume, enveloping those multi colored florals. The stand out florals in this are rose; in the form of rose oil, jasmine, lilac, heliotrope, and ylang ylang. Pink, purple, and yellow colored flowers. The sweetness of the peach and the floral juice can be too much. If you spray liberally this is a bomb. It's such a strong perfume it is at Giorgio Beverly Hills kind of strength. So it's best to spray once and you're good to go. This leans feminine and mature but it's gorgeous. It has a vanilla and amber dry down with sandalwood. Lasts hours and hours, all day. It projects like a missile. It's soapy powdery and cosmetic style. Pretty and dainty as opposed to assertive and strong (for that there's Passion). This is for a very soft feminine woman. Other vibes it gives me is retro cosmetics and powder, rose soap, and again, a gourmand vibe via the peach. This frag can be easily appreciated if you enjoyed such fragrances as Lancome's Tresor, Elizabeth Arden's Red Door, Lanvin's Arpege and Yves Saint Laurent's Paris. This is super feminine and sweet, with a sophisticated auntie Mame being the life of the party kind of vibe. It smells like Elizabeth Taylor enjoying herself at a Christmas party. It goes with sweaters, turtlenecks, scarves. It's a winter perfume. Despite the spice accords, it's mostly a peach and floral juice which turns into powder/soap and dries into sandalwood. A delicious and unforgettable vintage classic.

Diamonds and Rubies is a beautiful luxury powdery bar of soap you find in a nice hotel. It also reminds me of a powdery lillac tree in my garden. It is a universally pleasing soft scent. I personally don't feel that it has great longevity or projection. It reminds me of stepping out of a shower on a warm spring day... very feminine. I would like a fabric softener like this. Definitely a cozy pink sweater perfume as well. Nice. I usually have bad luck with celebrity perfumes, but I saw a 100ml bottle at TJ.Maxx for $12, so I went for it. I can see how someone could really dig this perfume, but for me, it is not on the top of my list. 😉

JoannaV22

I recently found Diamonds and Rubies at Ross for $9.99 for the 1.7 oz size and jumped at the chance of buying it.

For me, the almond wood, rose, and spices are what I pick up on the most with slight notes of the Jasmine. I think the sandalwood peeks through too but primarily the rose and almond wood. The effect it creates along with all the white florals is something that is both soothing, and elegant. Because this perfume is rather powdery, I can tell that it may smell too “grandmotherly” to some. It’s definitely unique in my collection because most perfumes of today are sweet gourmands, while this is a warm spicy floral. For me, the scent is elegant with a hint of sexy. I wouldn’t use this in the summer because of the spicy and woody base, but it feels perfect for Autumn and winter. The powdery notes will really shine in cold weather.

The perfume bottle is simple and unassuming, but looks luxurious and rich. It’s tall but easy to store because its so slim.

Update:

Though I like this perfume, I’ve noticed it does induce headaches for me, being its so strong. And compared to the Emeralds or Sapphires flankers, I just don’t reach for it. The powder in this becomes too much and I don’t have anything else to layer it with. Such a shame because I do like this fragrance, it just hasn’t been working for me. I’ll keep it in my collection and see if I can make it work in the upcoming autumn and winter.

silvas

perfume with personality. for me, quite close to tesori d,oriente royal oud dello yemen . 80% female, but can be worn by a man who loves floral-vanilated perfumes. very good performance. L= 7-8h+. excellent price. good quality glass, but a bit big😇.

Oooh, Diamonds and Rubies, another interesting Grojsman frag! This one I will call "rich and strange." It seems to have a little of everything: a ripe peach at the beginning, going into powders and spices and jasmine and lions and tigers and bears oh my (OK, not really, but it's quite the hodgepodge). I'm never sure when a scent is marketed as an amber floral what it means, but this one offers a little something to everyone. It's not nearly as clean and soapy as Sparkling White Diamonds, and the scent is well-blended enough that you don't really pick out the individual notes so much as enjoy the overall gestalt. Something about the spice/fruit/almond/floral accords is kind of Christmassy to me.

Update: For an EDT, this is crazy powerful. I find that many of the Taylor EDTs are stronger than what many other lines call EDPs. I would advise not overspraying D&R because the longevity and sillage are much huger than you might expect from the color of the juice and the EDT designation.

Update: The drydown is beautiful and not nearly as "in your face" as the first hour or so. I can still smell it quite strongly in the crooks of my elbows (just a single spray for each). Crazy longevity for an EDT, just crazy! I think next time I wear it I might focus on the lower body, or maybe just one inner elbow. I'd be very careful putting it on the chest or neck with this powerhouse sillage!

Update: It is about ten hours later, and I can still smell Diamonds and Rubies in my elbow crooks. This might be the most enduring fragrance I have ever smelled, especially in the EDT form. What a mysterious concoction!

D0LLFACE

I just added this to my collection. I’m in my Elizabeth Taylor era when it was the 60’s and she was wearing loud paisley caftans and had the most beautiful bronze tan you can imagine, second marriage to Richard Burton time. Total glamour puss but with an edge like she didn’t give a damn. Kinda think she may have always been like that, but it just gets worse when you’re older doesn’t it? Anyway, this is a beautiful powerhouse of a perfume. I feel like someone I knew wore this because when I got it I sprayed it on a mohair sweater hanging in my closet and I just wanted to go in and bury my face in it. It was familiar.
It’s powdery spices and floral. It really could be the definitive Christmas perfume. I cannot wait till the weather cools and I can rock this is in a long purple caftan, oh hell I’m so sick of the heat. Can we please get to Fall already. I have a whole tray of La Liz perfumes I want to bathe in okay, let me live, will ya Mother Nature?

kappa1927

made a bad choice with the powdery but my friends LOVE it. had to open the window to air out my desk after it was sitting there unopened for 10 minutes

D&gredcap

This is total 90s vibe - it’s super flowery but I don’t get any roses - powdery also and it’s got an enormous silage. It last quite long

WhoKilledCockRobin?

Here are my first impressions after 2 or 3 days of wearing.

It was blind buy. I'm surprised how delitious slightly sour sweet peach with little bit of cinnamon developed on my skin after maybe 20 or 30 minutes. Lovely, gourmand, unusual and mature. So complex. Wonderful smell.... there's something nearly narcotic or addictive for me.... great blend of smells. I should add, that my skin chemistry hates modern main stream fragrances and loves aldehyde ones. So... maybe that's why I am so happy about this perfume.

Longevity is ok, when I sprayed before going to bed, I woke up in cloud of wonderful smell.

Disadvantage is strange smell 20 minutes after spraying. It reminds me Arpege by Lanvin, it has similar strange smell in first 20 minutes. Moreover something strange like smell of barbie doll head is present in fragrance. I don't mind it.

Bottle is cheap and of low quality and I really don't like it. But I don't care, juice is wonderful.

Scent is sweet and has "doll head" smell so I can imagine it like a migrena or nausea trigger. In my case, it's ok.

Skin on sensitive parts of arms is slightly itching after spraying.... so I use it only on non-sensitive parts. That's why I won't buy it again.

I have Diamonds and Emeralds too. But Rubies are way much better.

If you like aldehyde, sweet, cinnamon and peachy perfumes, go for it. It's unusual, soothing scent and bargain.

emily erdbeer

Delicious and unusual. So close to the discontinued Tentations from Paloma Picasso, though without the strong note of cloves. Despite the dated look, I think this still works for today’s tastes. An excellent value, good sillage and longevity.

dglightblue

cold day, wool fabric and skin test.

After an hour it’s a gentle aldehydes (I dislike aldehydes mostly) and old school not syrupy peach number.
This is not thin but it’s actually not a huge 1980s banger either.
The powder is not baby powder, and though I cannot think of anything modern it reminds me of.. a softer narciso powder??
It is rounded, doesn’t screech, the Rose is not mega rosey or old at all, on my jumper there is a touch more clean spice.

I think it’s nice. I don’t like the original

Ambikaambika

It is spicy, a bit sweet, can smell the sweet rose scent with some cinnamon perhaps and incense notes I love it! Also has some more flowers in there too

Frabra88

This creation is so unique, it smells like perfumes from other times yet manages to fit in a particular modern aesthetics.
I agree with others reviewers, try it on different occasions and after it has macerated a bit. Try on skin, on paper it does not open well.
First I will start with the scent, then I will tell you what scene or image it brings to mind.

So, the opening is hair spray or nail polish like, this is true. It is scratchy. And a sour quality is present. On skin this impression lasts a while but then leaves and it translate itself into something boozy (as in a liquor more so then pure alchool, to be precise rum and cola, or something alike).
Peach (and apricot) is immediately recognizable, a little syrupy and surely sweet, canned peach, and goes together with the rose (and probably some purple flower), wich give to the scent a soapy dimension. This is wonderfull though....because behind it all there is such warmness from the spices, the ylang, the almond and the heliotrope. Also I think the orchid contributes to the peculiar sweetness.
At this point you could call this a fruty floral gourmand, because heliotrope, almond and spices (I think cinnamon and cloves for sure) recall to mind marzipan, cristhmas sweets, probably even dehydrated fruits and nuts! But it is not as if they are in front of you, so I would not call it a proper /edible gourmand. There is even a play-doh nuance, doll head characteristic abaut it but less pronounced and round then that in Dior Hipnotic Poison and the likes. Really it is difficoult to put this perfume in a category, the sticky or syrupy sweetness mixes itself with soapy, dusty and oriental shades.

In the mid, the scent starts to became powdery, so beautiful and elagantly powdery. But more spicy and floral dustiness then talc. This facet and the sweetness of this scent (wich is given I think by balsam, flowers and heliotrope, of course not the modern sweetness of ethil maltol) reminds me so much of the same elements present in Chloe Narcisse, with wich it shares some notes and also costruction style, I would say!
Other then that I can not pin point specific notes, they are all blended.

The dry down, or background body (as I would rather describe it here) is wonderfull...some of the lilly of the vally, cinnamon and cloves remains and, in combo with sandalwood (maybe even the dry and bitter almond wood of the opening), some balsam and incense, they form a particular accord...to me it smells a bit like stale clothes, but in a good way, the clothes of the day before that are soaked in perfume, powder and fumigated with incense...the expensive clothes of a diva! And even like womanly part a bit...just a bit.
This is a very warm scent, best for autumn and winter. A fully bodied composition.
Shall I dare on a summer night? I don't know.

I would like to close this already long review with an image: a cabaret ballerina is getting ready in her closet, she is spraying her peach scented hair with a cherry-cola hairspray. She is drinking rum and cola made special with spice and clover, prepared just for her because she is indeed special...she is nervous, her new lover will be in the audience tonight. She puts on her favorite lingerie, the last puff of cinnamon scented talc, red velvet fatty lipstick...costume is on! The incense she burns for luck continues its life in her closet...she must go now, off in to the club where the aroma of liquors, smoke, adrenaline, wonder and lived in stale space hug her. And her show begins.

If you are on a budget yet you would like something special and peculiar then give this a try. And do not give up at firsts spray.
It is potent for being an edt in both persistence and sillage, I prefer to spray this on the mid of my body and on the wrist because it is so intense. I would like so much to have a sample of the edp or edt without reformulation.
As for comparisons I would say Tresor by Lancome it's different, yes they share the peach and the way it is used, but here I feel it is more sweet; in Tresor you get that "peach's skin or is it skin like peaches?" sensation, surely more velvety and less syntethic. They share one thing however...that lady intimate body part nuance, that I find so thouching. In a floraly way though, nothing animalic. I think it is merit of the lilly of the vally. To me their similarity ends there.
Probably more similar to Giorgio Beverly Hills Red, for the spicy, woody and powdery parts.
If you like this "romantic but malicious" category and a powdered peach, but less spicy and still low cost, I suggest Frank Olivier Frank Olivier (white shell packaging) and Coty Exclamation (white pack with just black detail).

Gingerspiced

I found this for $12 at Burlington and was excited because I heard it was good. I had previously tried reforms of Passion and also Giorgio's Red and I hated both. Passion smelled to me like flowers covered in stale cigarettes 🤢 The first sprays of this were so screechy! Boozed up stale rose and synthetic peach for hours. I never got heart notes, just screechy peach and rose. I always trial perfumes in different ways, so after doing light sprays I went to my guest bathroom and sprayed myself like 5 times to see if more notes would come out. Same screech! BUT late that night, like 8 hours later, I went back in that bathroom for something and it smelled amazing. Reminded me of LPRNcouture, like a musky sweet floral dusky scent that I love. So I knew there was more to this. Obviously I wasn't going to wait 8 hours for drydown each time. I tried spraying and then blasting with a hairdryer (just obliterated it). Tried spraying and then rubbing vigorously (took the top notes off!). I tried "macerating" (stupid name, it's just when you spray a few sprays to clear the nozzle and introduce fresh air to the bottle, then leave it for a period of time to oxidize slightly) and only 5 days in, it is leagues better. I braved a full set of sprays to work today and have been told the room smells nice (one guys thought it was tge germicidal wipe in my hand, so the boozy smell must still be strong haha). I put it on at 7am and by 8:30am the heart notes are dominant. These are the notes I can smell now:

Top- rose powder, synthetic peach (like a freshly opened bag of peach rings candy), booze (kind of sharp)
Heart-lily of the valley, heliotrope, some musky underlayers and some top notes occasionally

Edit: returning, the peach and almond are just too sweet and sharp for me. If they faded away faster this would be truly lovely on me.

XOXO_marcel

Bubble gum, cherry lip balm, and marzipan all come to mind with this one. Surprisingly gourmand and not at all like the original White Diamonds, although they both share a retro/vintage flair. I might wear this for my upcoming wedding since it's a unique fragrance and I can see myself eventually developing a sense of nostalgia around it.
Woefully impractical but I love it anyways and have been wearing it to work.

Edit: Now that we're getting into warmer weather where I live, I want to add that this is purely a winter fragrance. It's completely different (and frankly, slightly gross) in the heat. Lovely in the cold though!

rezzmail

I can understand why people don't like Diamonds and Rubies. There's something so odd about how you almost have to use a great dent in the bottle to get to this incensey, powdery rose that is as syrupy sweet as it is aged like mulled wine.

I quite like it and see myself using up my current bottle, it's wonderful in the winter since it has a tendency to hover and take up space in a way that not everyone would expect from a budget toilette. It's a wonderful layering scent with oils or deeper woody/ambery roses, but there will always be those off putting notes.

The dusty almonds, the stale lilies, the sugar that blasts you almost off guard; it's easy to be like wow I wasted my money, but give it some time and revisit it. This perfume almost needs a marination period for some reason.

kl99

If i had to imagine which fragrance Bette Davis wears in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane to better enter into the role I would definitely say this one: Diamonds and Rubies.

A sort of Cherry Hairspray aromatised with almonds and lilacs.

A nightmare fragrance for an old lady who belives she still a doll like girl.

No one of the suggested perfume mentiined by users are close to this composition.
No Temptations by Paloma Picasso
No Tresor
No Nahema
No Spellbound
Etc ...
This is just is a cheap multiflower roomspray

@Fatima1219 I was just having some grim daydream along the lines of what you described, a little eerie to say the least! Glad you have your life and your health!

To others, this scent bears multiple testings. The first time I smelled it, all I got was melon and spice, and I really didn't enjoy it. But after the 2nd or 3rd try I was suddenly able to detect all the sweet, creamy rose, peach, and heliotrope along with the powdery almond. Do give it a few tries before you make a final judgment. This is now one of my top favorites, and a wonderful, romantic aura I like to surround myself in, especially for bedtime.

The vintage EDP and parfum are also a more lasting, rich experience. The modern EDT is definitely thin and weak in comparison (this is OK for me, as I love to make a big cloud around me at home with the EDT!) The rose and spices are more apparent. You may wish to seek those out, as the prices are still affordable. I think it's worth it, but maybe I'm partial.

villiruusut

Blind bought this from a Marshalls for 17 bucks on a work trip to the US. A spicy peachy-rose that oddly reminds me of the smell of Anna Sui nail polishes (I'm serious about this - I can't seem to find people talking about this but I swear Anna Sui scents her nail polishes with something extra). Not the biggest fan of the smell but I don't hate it either - I'm just not sure where to place this in my wardrobe - but my cat seems to be soothed by this scent and becomes extra amenable to pets.

tatuli

Didn't work for me. Smells like church incense. It turns into a skin scent in an hour. And although the dry down is creamy and nice, has no projection whatsoever.

Fatima1219

I was in a bad car accident approximately 3 months ago. I lost consciousness at the wheel, and was unconscious in the ER for hours. Ironically, I was wearing this fragrance on the day of the accident. The police officer told my husband that all he could smell was my perfume, lol. I must've reapplied prior to the accident. I feel very thankful to be alive and well. The Lord really blessed me that day with a good, safe vehicle and my Diamonds and Rubies! Although, I haven't worn the fragrance since--I have high regard for it. It is my good luck charm. Who knows what would've happened if I had chosen another scent for that day?! Diamonds and Rubies can be described as a musky, powdery rose--a subtle powerhouse! It has excellent projection and longevity. The price point is great and the fragrance is a perfect break from today's vanilla gourmands and fruity-florals. Diamonds and Rubies is not a safe blind buy--but what the hell!? Purchase it anyway--it may save your life!!!

rahatski

Update: everything I said before is still true and yet it’s weirdly addictive. A sweet spicy rose cloud. I can’t explain it.

The initial spray was a disappointment. It smells like nail polish remover. Then there’s a bizarre almond thing going on for a few minutes that’s a little bit nutty and a little bit cyanide. A quick detour through garam masala (cardamom and cloves is my guess). Then it settles down into a gentler, rosier, soapier Tresor.

I would apply this away from other people before driving in to work, and let it develop in the car. At the end of 30 minutes it should not evoke protest from the sensitive but before that… phew!

I’ll try it again in warm weather and see what happens. Overall, I’m a bit bummed out.

dmaw

Recently purchased Beekman's holiday scent, Amaryllis Bouquet...right away reminded me of this old favorite of mine. It's the subtle spiciness, I believe. Also in this same vein, Avon's Rare Rubies.

LanaDelSlay

Also many here said it'd be similar to Trésor, there's no peach, no lily of the valley type of vibe, no fruitiness, so I wouldn't even listen to these reviews, completely out of touch. Nothing to do with Trésor or even Chanel n5. The soap is truly like a cheap soap, there's no fruitiness, no peach no almond in there, no sourness like some said.

Rosa5964

I’ve been collecting some of the older, “bigger” perfumes, especially when they’re cheap! This is supposed to have the notes I like, but I mostly get this sharp chemical smell almost like rubbing alcohol. I waited for the dry down, and still not much better. Just too sharp for me.

mhubbard1961

I bought this back in the day. Thought I loved it. Sort of like a fabulous first date that fizzles out quickly. Learning how and where to wear perfume is a work in progress. Like dating. One spray to the lower body is plenty. 3 sprays to the chest completely insufferable. Gave mine away and would not repurchase

EspressoAddict

Sweet, juicy, soft. In line with YSL's Paris and Lancome's Tresor, just less powdery and less fruity than those. Similar enough however to be a safe bet if you like Paris and Tresor.

Opens quite intense, filling the air with a trail of what others have described as "churchy", rich incensy and aromatic. Hints of powdery rose and a bit of ripe peach. There's something a little boozy about it, and sticky sweet, but not quite as syrupy as Hypnotic Poison. More like a bit of liqueur.

Slightly oriental, with hints of incense and rather indescernible spices, giving it an aura of luxury and mystery, slightly powdery floral, softening it, lightly boozy with hints of liqueur making it intoxicating. Not quite the motherly vibe of Tresor, not the mature composure of Paris, not the cloying lethality of Hypnotic Poison, but somewhere in there. Feminine, luxurious, indulgent, a perfectly warm and decadent perfume to indulge in during the colder times of the year, tiptoeing between innocence and insolence. Especially if you like the ones i mentioned above but your budget does not allow you to indulge in them.

It starts off quite strong with plenty of projection filling the air, and it wears off over the next few hours, but you can still catch whiffs of it off your skin during the next four hours without needing to bring your elbow to your nose. Lasts over six hours but close to the skin, yet it still has some life to it and doesn't really become a skinscent, and doesn't wash away completely in the shower if I applied it in the last couple hours. Sits a bit better on clothes where they have touched your skin. I will be back in a few months to let you know how it behaves in the winter, since my skin is not particularly fond of retaining scents during the heat even when it's not hot enough to sweat it away.

I am pleasantly surprised. I am not particularly fond of Tresor or Paris, and generally don't have much of a taste for sweet perfumes, but this one is just right.

A Sophia Grojsman masterpiece! That fact that we can still find this all over the place for <$20 is astounding.
A lightly spiced floral Oriental scent. Yes, the Sophia Grojsman peach is here, but she's not the star like in Exclamation. No, this is dominated by a lush rose scent that somehow manages to be prominent without being overtly dominating and "Grandma-y". A rare anytime scent for me, the spices aren't so dominant that it stays locked in wintertime. The bright, white florals and beautiful, soft, musky sandalwood and just barely there cedar is fantastic for any afternoon.
For a lovely day you'd start with Violet Eyes in the morning, Diamonds and Rubies in the afternoon, White Diamonds in the early evening, and White Diamonds En Rouge as you move into the night. Elegance never gets old.
If you dislike these then that just means there's more for me to love. 🥰🌹🍑🍾

Melting boozy candied roses dusted with baby powder.
it's like if love's baby soft was formulated for a grown woman rather than a tween, then spritzed with something sticky and intoxicating.
It has the vibe of an extremely sweet cream sherry

It could only be suitable for the coldest of cold weather.
Spritz it on when you wish for glamour at 10 below.

I have the modern EDT, 90s EDP, & a parfum, shower gel, lotion, & body powder set of unknown age. All smell great but other reviewers are correct about the EDT being lighter and sweeter, maybe less complex than other iterations. Edt's are supposed to be this way but I don't know how a vintage EDT compares to what I have. Parfum & EDP are woodier, muskier, and more rosy than the EDT. I find the EDT pretty lasting but yes, the balance of notes is different. Bath products smell like the EDT, and the powder is woodier. Passion body powder is also very woody, almost gasoline-y. I like it. I wonder if all the Taylor powders share that quality. Both the powders I have are also SPARKLY which delights me, as a person who was 13 years old when body glitter peaked in the late 90s 😄

This was my 5th blind buy of Elizabeth Taylor perfumes and it's one of my favorites! I love the warm, spicy notes and like another commenter said if you like Tresor you will most likely like this, and I love Tresor. In order here is how I ranked the Elizabeth Taylor perfumes that I have:
1. Passion (this is a beast of a perfume, love it!!)
2. Diamonds and Rubies
3. White Diamonds - another beast of a perfume, classic and I love the bit of spice.
4. Diamonds and Emeralds (love the smell but low on longevity for me)
5. Gardenia (love the smell but low on longevity for me
6. Sparkling White diamonds - this one is very different and I get what people mean now when they say it smells like a “freshly Washed and clean” fragrance. I need to try this one out a little more.
7. Forever Elizabeth (not diggin this one much, I wanted to smell the apple everyone talks about but only get a faint whiff of that, would not purchase again)

SniffYouGo

Magical if you get the right version. Just ok if you don't. I don't know if it's the specific form (parfum vs. eau de toilette) or when it was made that makes the difference, but the parfum in the mini bottle I have is far deeper and more complex than the eau de toilette. It's like someone smelled the parfum and thought it was all about Christmas smell and formulated the eau de toilette based on that, but it misses so many luxurious notes, as if the heart was literally ripped out of it. It's the shallow spiced version. There's so much more to it than that.

Then there's the parfum mini that I could swear is mostly white diamonds mixed into a D&R bottle. I think I got tricked on that one, so beware.

Once I get a decent supply of the real deal, I'm making this my signature. It's sweet and smooth, smoky and woody feminine sophistication in a bottle. They did something right with this. Absolute heaven.

MoonFlare

Wow, this is alot softer then I thought it would be; considering ET perfumes like White Diamonds and Passion are powerhouses. Very soft, powdery, spiced rose that almost has a make-up, lipstick like vibe to it. Not an "old lady" perfume, but definitely a fragrance for mature noses!! Lasting power is about 4 hours, but maybe it's because I don't over spray? Definitely worth my 14 dollars. Oh, and I'm wearing this on the summer time here in San Diego, so the projection is moderate.

GoodVibrations

This is very close to Hermès Rouge. Diamonds and Rubies derives texture from a powdery rose soap accord, almond, and spice, whereas Hermès Rouge derives texture from iris.
In Diamonds and Rubies, the cedar and sandalwood provide an elegant woodsy base while supporting the rose with a creamy emollience.
Diamonds and Rubies and Hermès Rouge both offer a similar, highly sophisticated powerhouse rose.
Diamonds and Rubies and Hermès Rouge also both convey an abstract nostalgia that echoes more history than the years of their releases would reflect.
Diamonds and Rubies is a little bit fuzzier than Hermès Rouge, but that seems to be a Sophia Grojsman watermark. Grojsman’s creation Lancôme Trésor shares a similar fuzziness, but I find Diamonds and Rubies to be much more comfortable to wear than Trésor.
Diamonds and Rubies and Hermès Rouge share a certain uniqueness in that not many fragrances smell like this. Diamonds and Rubies peripherally offers up the fruitier notes in sweet little sparkles that convey high quality. Diamonds and Rubies is soft, elegant, and gorgeous. As an early flanker of White Diamonds, Diamonds and Rubies retains the regal character that established this line of perfumes as a serious presence. The quality is not the least bit undermined by the price point. As with Hermès Rouge, I’m sure one bottle lasts for 20 years.
I also get the Guerlain Nahema reference, but Diamonds and Rubies is closer to Hermès Rouge than anything else.

FreeBeing

Well. I went and did a blind buy on this one. I am now sitting here, waiting to try it and praying that I get all the good & powdery notes that work for me and none of the ones that either hate my skin or loathe it. I can wear some White Diamonds like nobody's business but it was a fluke that I even tried it. That's why I'm going to try this one. I will be back with a deep-dive review!

Okay. I am not sure how I feel about this one. I LOVE White Diamonds but wanted this for the "powdery" notes. I'm not getting powder. Strangely, I think about fragrances in colors. When I think of powder notes, I think "off-white". This one makes me think "red" or even "RED!!!" It's hotter and spicier than soft to me.

On me, this is not subtle or soft. It's even a bit harsh and loud. And it never does settle down. Very weird. I'm going to put the bottle away for a while and come back to it later. Right now, it's a "Meh" for me.

swedishmilk15

My grandmother wore WD so I was hesitant to try this (personal associations can be hard to overcome!) So glad I went for it. This was a bit off-putting at first, all I got was almond and melon. A few more wears, and now I find it just stunning! Very romantic. Almond essence, rose, soft stone fruits, and a bit of calone and muguet freshness. Reminds me of an aquatic Tocade or Sun Moon Stars but add almond. Addictive. I find I'm NEEDING to spray this before bed and don't want to sleep without it. What's that, Ms. Grojsman, did you say, "Hug Me?" Yes, I think I will.

AMGMoonHalo

I was shopping for mother's day gifts and happened on a Tresor L'eau eau de parfüm gift set. I got it home and decided to spritz a tiny bit from the travel spray. It had the likeness to Elizabeth Taylor's Diamonds and Rubies. After reading up on Tresor's creation history, it is due to the perfumer, Sophia Grojsman. Both are her creations, but Tresor L'eau is an adaptation of Dominique Ropion. What is interesting is the Elizabeth Taylor's Diamonds and Rubies EDT lasted over 24 hours on my skin. Where the Tresor L'eau EDP has faded completely. Definitely a testament to the amount of essential oils and ingredients used. On me, both are beautifully peach and apricot from beginning to end. So Elizabeth Taylor's Diamonds and Rubies is a good alternative to the original Tresor if you're saving up to buy that one one day. If you look for Tresor, definitely try to find the original EDP version.

PerfumedParrot

I’ve got the vintage pure parfum with the bow on the lid. It’s a bit too boozy for me at first, I love the peach, but then the vanilla sweetens it all too much. It smells like a peach flambé with vanilla custard and caramelised brown sugar.
My boyfriend smelt it and said it smells like ‘falooda’ which is a milky, ice creamy, rose water cold desert.

This retro gourmand warm sweetness is too much for me.

Woollyworm

Strange and wonderful! Beautiful, and retro in the best possible way.

When first applied, it seemed strong, confusing and discordant, but I needn't have worried. Give this one a chance!

As it settled down, I could smell the spicy peach, and the rose. It DOES seem like a red rose, which I love. It is a bit powdery, but not in a bath powder/dressing table kind of way. I dont have a sophisticated nose, so I'm not sure what a good comparison for that note would be. I suppose that could be the almond wood. More florals mix in, and the heart of this fragrance is really addictive and enjoyable. The dry down is smooth, slightly sweet and woody.

This is a sophisticated, womanly perfume. It's not a vanilla bomb or a light aquatic fruity thing. I'm surprised at the quality of this inexpensive fragrance. I look forward to wearing this in the fall and winter!

tresi

Beautiful, comforting, budget friendly scent, ideal for fall & winter. Beautifully blended powdery, peach, rose & almond. Long lasting, projects well.
If you enjoy Tardes Barcelona, then you'll probably also enjoy this. This is more complex with the fruity, floral, spicy notes but shares that beautiful, warm, soft, almond note.

Yes Malena

I wish I liked these Elizabeth Taylor fragrances more, because they have the greatest atomizers. The greatest--they all spray this beautiful perfect cloud of perfume. Amazing sprayers.
Diamonds and Rubies, like Diamonds and Emeralds, is one I keep coming back to every few months, wondering how it will land now. As others have said, the dry-down is very pleasant and warm. (The less said about the opening the better.) I think almond is not my favorite perfumery note though, because for whatever reason to my nose it feels incomplete and rather on the synthetic side. It's so rich and yummy, but somehow not satiating for me. Idk. As time goes on, it's looking like my favorite of the bunch is Diamonds and Sapphires, which is surprising, because it has that loud melon note. Diamonds and Sapphires is very cheerful. Diamonds and Rubies is more daring. Diamonds and Emeralds I do not understand at all--I guess it's "the sporty one"? White Diamonds Night is basically the dry-down of Diamonds and Rubies, so if people like that, try White Diamonds Night and you can bypass the other parts.
They all grow on me, I guess. But I don't feel like these Diamonds fragrances fit me or suit me. I wish they did, because they are interesting, affordable, and the sprayers and bottles are so wonderful.

SweetJhane

So soft, flowery, and powdery. I adore almond, heliotrope, rose, peach, sandalwood, and musk. I don’t get the spices others do, but this is so pretty that I don’t mind, much as I love spices. The opening is a lot to deal with, but 20 minutes later, it’s worth the wait. It just gets better the longer it’s on. It is definitely affected by weather. It’s rainy and cold today, and the rose is prominent as a clear, fresh, dewy rose, along with sweetness, which is very lovely. Now that I’m getting familiar with this, I find the longevity to be better than I thought. It is around 8-10 hours - I am admittedly an oversprayer. It lasts even longer on clothes. When I wear it to bed, I smell it on my bedclothes in the morning. It’s very different - for that reason I don’t think it’s dated, just unique. I can’t wait to see how this develops in warm weather. This is a very beautiful scent.

Update - I absolutely love Diamonds and Rubies. Roses are blooming in my garden and in this perfume. The spices come into play almost immediately in warm weather and that fresh peach blast on apllication is now something I anticipate with pleasure. I know people think of this as a winter/Christmas beauty, and it is. But weather GREATLY affects what steps forward in this scent. I’m finding that I love it even more in warm weather. Heat does not subdue or consume it - this gorgeous girl thrives, dances and turns even more into what it can become. I hydrate my skin really well with an unscented product before spraying perfumes as it has become drier, and doing so really gives perfumes something to hold onto. It greatly extends longevity and strength in many cases, which is true for D&R. The more I wear this, the more I am compelled to wear it. Simply one of the most beautiful, different and expertly conceived perfumes I’ve ever met. Backup is ordered!

Goofy79

Absolutely awful 😖 smells like facepowder from the 70's left in an abandoned house. Weak and fade away quickly..!

Aiga1

Not as vintage as White Diamonds, but still a bit vintage. Yet wearable in cold weather. Soapy, powdery, warm floral with a bit of spice.

amandavolpe

This is my third review. Yes, I have an issue with this one. I hate passionately the opening (rancid, artificial almond). I do love the discreet dry down (spicy peach, roses and vanilla). Finally found the perfect solution: Yves Saint Laurent’s 2011 Yvresse, a fragrance which was also originally created by Grosjman. It has all the peachy goodness without the annoying Nivea shower oil opening. If you have the same issue with Diamonds & Rubies as I do, you might want to check Yvresse out!

CurlGurl

After wearing this several days in a row, it reminds me of something a fashionable character in Murder She Wrote would wear. It's definitely dated, but that alone shouldn't stop someone from giving this a chance. One reviewer said the smell is warm, even hot. I agree. It's definitely a spicy perfume. It's sweet and very powdery, heavy rose and almond. I definitely get the ylang-ylang and sandalwood, and I think what dates this one in particular is the addition of sandalwood and strong florals. At first sniff it also reminded me of old-school pink tiled bathrooms and potpourri. But I refuse to let memories ruin a scent for me, and wore this, picking it apart until I saw it's beauty. I think it's an excellent bedtime juice. Some people may find the powdery nuance headache inducing, however, or the sweet and almond cloying. Its a great cheapie I think.

Gemini12

On paper this one looks like it should be right up my alley. Unfortunately it was a big NO for me, despite repeated wearings, in various seasons. For some reason it reminded me of my aunt's bathroom from the 1970's and I could never get past that. I ended up giving it away.

Pieter Pad

Not a succesful blind buy for me. Too much flowers, not enough amber, musk, spices and oriental notes. I was hoping for a dirty rose scent like Vivenne Westwood's Boudoir, but maybe that was wishful thinking...

amandavolpe

This has grown on me (once I get past the odious almond note).

Decodawn

A very grown up feminine romantic fragrance, this is NOT a sugar candy sweet 2020s fume this is a very clever composition and multifaceted. Very similar to Tresor an almost dupe.
Diamonds & Rubies is a beautiful rose peach musk fragrance you need to wait 20 minutes for the fragrance to settle and warm on the skin. Perfect for Autum/Winter, the Red outer box is an ideal stocking filler for Christmas. Elizabeth Taylor fragrances are all made of very high quality ingredients do not be put off by the low price on the initial launch 25-30 years ago Elizabeth Taylor fragrances were incredibly expensive. I see the similarities with Lancome Tresor the excellent Russian nose Sophia Grosjman is the nose of this fragrance. White Diamonds, Passion and Diamonds and Emeralds are my other ET fragrances that I own Emeralds is my favourite as I love Tuberose and Gardenia but Rubies is beautiful. Don't just try it buy it you will love it. 🌹🎄❤

LeSucreRose

I blind bought this because someone mentioned it on one of the threads as being a surprising makeup scent. Well, I love makeup scents and this is cheap. On initial spray, I’m not a big fan. Too sharp and I know it’s not listed as a note here, but too civety. It smells like a civet powder. It is growing on me on the dry down though and it smells much better from a distance than it does when directly sniffing my wrist. I also own Guerlain’s Nahema and I do definitely detect a similarity to that, except Diamonds and Rubies is slightly softer and more powdery. I am not much of a Nahema fan either. My favorite rose perfume that’s somewhat similar in style and price point to Diamond’s and Rubies is Avon’s Velvet.

dizedd

Harsh raspy musk with a very faint "fruit" note that I thought might be apricot, but apparently it's peach. I have tried this twice now, once in hot weather then last night when it was cool- both times it was a scrubber.

This may be one of the worst blind buys I've ever purchased, and I was particularly surprised because I love strong perfumes and I am very familiar with [and fond of] Elizabeth Taylor's 2 original perfumes, White Diamonds and Passion. I always preferred Passion, I went through 2 bottles in the early 90's. When I worked at McDonalds lol. If you've ever wondered what's a great scent to combine with the smell of french fries it's Passion apparently.

I didn't get "powdery" from this. Just the awful harsh musk with other assorted chemical smells. I used to think I hated musk as a note, now that time has passed I realize that I just hate the musk formulation that was being used in perfumes when I was young. Another great example of this awful musk scent is Mambo from the late 80's. People still rave about it here, and I foolishly blind bought some of that based on reviews here too-nope.

Besides the beast mode musk, the bottle is huge, extremely tall, and IMO tacky. The classic white diamonds cylinder starts to look cheap when you get a larger bottle. Also the perfume literally made my skin itch where I'd applied it. If you love that old style musk scent this is a great bargain, I think my bottle was less than $15. I won't be buying any more Liz Taylor flankers.

LSAUG

Wow this is a beautiful perfume! I sooo love this. The almond note on top combined w/ the red rose is so distinct and special. Those then blend w/ that lush peach, spices, powdery heliotrope, other florals and that sweet vanilla to create soft, dark red velvet magic! This perfume is fancy. It is for special events, for holidays spent w/ loved ones. It gives me a romantic feeling yet it is also so loving, soft, gentle. It invites hugs and kisses and cuddles. I have to admit I never wanted to try Elizabeth Taylor fragrances because I thought they were going to be to screechy, loud and harsh. My hair dresser and I were talking about her movies the other day and how we both loved them and I got to thinking why don't I see what others have said about her fragrances in this magazine. And based on these reviews I gave 3 of her fragrances a try. Plus they can be had for nothing! I have spent a fortune on perfume over COVID and now I could kick myself because I could've been wearing these beauties and saving a hell of a lot of money in the process! If anyone has any hesitation about these perfumes don't! Run to the nearest computer and order like the wind! If you appreciate glamour, style and good taste you won't be disappointed.

Ez-zühre-i eflûtun

It was a blind but at tk maxx. I’ve wasted over £8 because of this awful scent. I cannot believe how could anyone like this. It smells like cheap soap mixed with rotten nuts and baby powder. Looking at the notes I thought it was going to be a nice scent. I’ve tried to mix it with Britney fantasy perfume and even that couldn’t hide the powderyness and bitterness of this perfume. Fantasy is a really strong perfume and if that didn’t help then I don’t know what will. If you want to smell like a grandma not in a very good way ( some grandma perfumes are beautiful) then buy this. I would rather wear l’aiment perfume, it has grandma vibes too but at least it smells more sweet and much more pleasant.

amandavolpe

It smells exactly like the kind of cheap body oil you can buy at the supermarket.

I’ll blame the almond note.

I can tell that underneath there’s a beautiful, sweet, powdery, creamy peach, vanilla and roses concoction, but the almond overpowers everything else.

Such a shame.

Mc1995

Very pretty, Sophia Grojsman creation that smells like a couple other of her more famous creations! This is a great dupe/mix of Boucheron Jaipur(underrated and unfortunately discontinued),CK Eternity for women and a bit of Lancôme Tresor. More soft and musky than those though, I’d still say those three are better but this is definitely worth a try and for so cheap out there too, not bad! This has to be one of the best Elizabeth Taylor releases.

Laila C

The first 20/30 mins was an ‘oh no what have I done’ moment but then it settled down into a lightly spiced roses and cream cocktail on me.. it really is gorgeous! A successful blind buy.

Laila C

So my hubby is not bothered at all by any of my fragrances.. except this one. He practically tried to eat my arm whilst I was wearing it the other night! Definitely a keeper!!

golden

Gorgeous perfume! To my nose I get a combination of Sun, Moon, Stars. By KL. Now I used to adore and wear that perfume, years back. But at some point I feel it changed. Because when I bought it again ( probably in the mid 2000’s) it was so screechy!
Now the other perfume that it also smells like, is Tresor.
Both mixed together. Great combination, by the way.
Anyway, this is way more complex and deeper than SMS.
I’m feeling the Peach, spices and then the smooth sandalwood, and benzoin. It’s really quite delicious.
I’m wearing this in August, however, it’s quite cold here in the UK. And windy, this is simply sumptuous!
I think this would work very well in the winter months ahead. Even an evening out.
With this perfume, you’ve gotta wait for the dry down. Otherwise you may feel this is way to loud for you. Give it time to develop, and you will find the magick there.
I actually prefer this over SMS. And that’s really making a statement! Because I used to absolutely adore that beauty. The bottle was so Mysterious to me, back then.
Well, this is my new replacement. It’s a beautiful retro classic, spicy, smooth sumptuous, lingering perfume. For those that love this type of old school vibe.

FireOrchid

Okay, I just hafta say, LOVEEEEEE.

I will NEVER be without a bottle of this again. This perfumer is a magical genius. She also did Diamonds & Rubies' teenaged little sister, Exclamation, and I love that one too.

I feel sexy wearing this. Beautiful. I feel like this is what Angelina Jolie would have worn in a spy movie twenty years ago.

Its deep, and full and as soon as I sprayed it, this full bodied warmth filled both nostrils and surrounded me in this beautiful perfumed cloud.

I was only wearing shorts and a Marley teeshirt when I sprayed this, but I immediately felt like the kind of woman who pencils those dark lines up the backs of her legs, after she has donned the perfect LBD and slipped a gold cased crimson lipstick into her black satin evening bag, on her way out to an evening of dancing and dinner at the club.

This gorgeous fragrance is taking me places in my mind and I am HERE for all of it.

So much love.

DJAdorbz

Man. I read all of these amazing reviews for this fragrance after coming across a bottle of this in Marshall's. What passion people have for it! What devotion! What admiration!

I hated it. I sprayed the box and couldn't even bring myself to spray it on my wrist.

All I smelled was rose and clove. But the kind of rose that is potent to the point of cloying.

I don't know what it was, but I detected NONE of the rich, creamy, peachy, soothing-spicy notes that others love.

I'm glad it works for others, but I don't think I'm an Elizabeth Taylor fragrance woman.

pinkstate

On my skin it opens up with a potent rose, peach with some aldehyde (maybe the spices) notes. The dry down is a delicious almond, rose, vanilla with a little sandalwood scent. Sillage and longevity are superior. I can not understand how Taylor can create a potent EDT for such a low price that can beat any niche or EDP for triple the price.

AstridNyxRose

Ah, the timeless, fabulous Liz Taylor. The insanely talented Sophia Grojsman. I love them both in their respective fields. This is a gem of a fragrance. Sort of gourmand, very sweet, lush and ripe. The booze-soaked peach steals the show. And it is TASTY.

Holli

This is somewhere between DG The One edt and Burberry for me. Definitely perfumey. A great rainy day coffee shop type of thing.

lolitajade

This is a mysterious fragrance. Definitely for the night or the winter. Dark red velvet, bedroom or rock chic, A dark, mysterious and sexy rose. I would say this is a mature scent but not a granny scent. You will get noticed for the right reasons.

This is not a screaming 80's powerhouse, like white diamonds...Unless worn in Spring, Summer. It would be considered quite current, if you want to be different. Having said that, it does remind me a bit of Elizabethan times. One spray will be enough. Similar in ilk to Lush Imagine Rose, but not.

I cannot explain it, but this perfume can be worn for a certain situation only. You will know. It is not a work fragrance for sure. For me it is as a rock chic a winter's night out, Christmas or to feel very sexy. You sure don't think of it being an Elizabeth Taylor fragrance.

louiee

This has great value for little pennies.

Love most of Sonja Grojsmans creations ...this one for sure included.

Juicy spicy peach, lily-of-the-valley, lily and woodsy. A truly feminine, flowery and intoxicating. Reminds me of the strong and yet vulnerable complex in the feminine flow. This is for sure for mature women.

Looong lasting amazing silage and a true compliment getter.

VioletOrchid

This scent makes me think of a cozy warm coat 🧥 in a cold winter night. It’s powdery, velvety florals. I could’ve sworn I smelled tuberose but it’s not in the notes. I have a hard time picking out (pun) the rose in this perfume. I also have a hard time detecting spicy notes. Everything is blended together and you have a sum different than the parts. The scent profile is that of many 80s perfumes if that makes sense, velvety, creamy, projecting and long lasting.

annxyz

I own a whole lot of perfumes , but this one always gets compliments and it is dirt cheap . No kidding, strangers at the book store or grocery store look over and tell me they like my perfume and ask what it is .

The first sniff out of the bottle I thought was nt wonderful, but the drydown won me over and I think this one is lovely . It reminds me of the original Samsara many years ago .

Ferra_Verto

An absolute knockout. Vintage powdery rose, smoky spices, rounded out with amber and sandalwood. The peach is present, but isn't as syrupy (to me) as others have described; it reads a lot softer to my nose and on my skin. The sillage on this is amazing, and it's very long-lasting, at least 8+ hours. Definitely wears better in colder months, would be too much in the summer.

Konga5000

Just bought a brand new bottle from T.J. Maxx 3/4/21. Got home and sprayed it ... smelled like plastic ! Not sure if these got reformulated because the entire line stayed the same forever ..... and I've owned this in the past too! The scarf I sprayed this on still smelled HORRIBLE in the morning! What the heck is going on ?

Gemsense

So in love with this edt version i hunted down a couple bottles of the edp. Assuming the edp would smell just as fabulous and also last longer. I was wrong! The edp is not at all like the edt not even iin the dry down! Huge let diwn. Ill stick to the edt. Hopefully ill be able to wear the edp in other climates and get the beauty the edt has been giving me.

Kashaboo

This is a beautiful, unabashed 90's scent, the scent of my hay days. I wished I happened on it earlier. It is a red scent, roses and cinnamon, sandalwood, amber. I am not surprised that the great Sophia Grojsman created it. It reminds me somewhat of Spellbound, but not totally, and also of Vintage Red Door, the one from the 80's and 90's (the present formulation of Red Door is awful, and cannot be counted). Sillage is great, pretty strong at the start, and longevity is outstanding. I can still smell it on my clothes for days. The bottle is beautiful too, and value is outstanding.

Gemsense

Upon first spray its a major big NO! but give it some time and this blossoms into a very sweet juicy rich spicy powdery cloud of deliciousness! It does not resemble spellbound but it could be a cousin of spellbound. I LOVE it now❤ gosh this is delicious!

Roses amour

I bought Rubies And Diamonds after seeing it in the ‘reminds me of’ section for Guerlain’s, Nahema.
Rubies And Diamonds is a seriously decent, sweetly cinnamon spiced, powdery, ruby red rose perfume! The almond wood adds a very soft nuttiness and the peach, a nectarous element. The other notes are elegant classics. Overall not at all a heavy or overpowering fragrance nor dated in my opinion. It is an opulent and elegant scent, excellent value for money.

maria1106

A high level scent for me.
Very flowery, were roses dominades, but roses not annoying. Just a little sweetness, just a little spiciness. There is also something fresh on my opinion in the mix, that i can not explain, seeing the notes.
When it settles is a warm, flowery, femminine fragrance.
I think is easy to reach all year around and every time of the day/night, but nevertheless the scent is interesting and special.
It is a dominant, attractive and brilliant fragrance - something that nowdays sugary fragrances should envy.

Scentsywhatsky

This smells enough like Tresor that I was immediately transported in my mind back to high school when my mom wore it. It’s lighter definitely because it’s an edt. Maybe a bit sweeter. I recommend this fragrance. It’s a steal. This would be the perfect concentration for late summer and early fall when the days are still warm but you’re ready to reach for your fall fragrances.

Mystères du Château de Dé

Diamonds & Rubies degraded considerably, unfortunately. 15 years ago the EDT was fine. The first 30 minutes are a rocky road with a sludgy watery off note. After, smoother sailing.

White Diamonds EDP - eau de parfum - is in much better shape.

If you're an Elizabeth Taylor completist buy all means keep a bottle of the current juice, if that's all you have available. I can't see someone with more than a couple dozen fragrances wearing Rubies regularly.

Edit - it's better after 3 hours.

ManoChrome

This scent reminds me of my grandmother. No, she did not wear it. No, this does not mean, that this is an outdated, grandma-smelling cheapie. My grandmother was born in 1925. She lived through two world wars, countless losses and difficulties, but she always preserved her grace and dignity. A beautiful, smart and strong woman. I remember how she always wore high heels (custom made!), simple, yet elegant and top quality custom made dresses, how she never missed an appointment by her hairdresser and she never left the house without wearing lipstick and sunglasses in the summer. She loved opera music and smoke one of those long, thin cigarettes with her coffee. She was a lady in the best sense of the word. No, she was not rich, as a teacher she never earned too well, but she made these things happen, because it was important for her. She respected herself. This scent is like her - complex, elegant, warm and powdery, not too loud but certainly not going unnoticed. I can understand why there is no place for this little gem on the market and it is being discontinued. There are not many ladies like my late grandmother left in this world...

This perfume finally came in the mail, due to the generosity of my in-laws. I had been excited to smell this for the past four years, but due to a tight budget had never been able to bring myself to actually spend the money.
This perfume is just lovely. I smell elements of many other perfumes I have loved over the years, while somehow being softer and more gentle than many of them. I smell the high yellow-floral sweetness that was the strongest element that I smelled from Chloe Narcisse; I also smell a tiny bit of the watery, old-fashioned rose of of the Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose. As the scent develops I smell the dusty, orangey powder of Dana Navy; and in the heart I swear I detect a hint of the warm, almost root-beer spices of Tabu. While I smell all of these great elements in their turn, this perfume does not feel as potent as many of the perfumes I have listed; I would not be afraid to wear a spritz of this to an office as long as the weather wasn't too overbearingly warm. This is not something I can say about Diamonds and Sapphires, which is incredibly powerful on me (all the lily and melon). In all, I am just very happy to have been able to finally smell and own this fragrance; I will be wearing it very often. I think it goes very well with a femme Victorian gothic or midcentury vintage visual aesthetic.

I get really strong floral and peach notes
Fruits and everything else in the background:)
All I can say is that it smells vintage and old school

This is another scent that I’m happy that I didn’t dismiss. Basically, I got this by accident instead of Red Door and I was already expecting to be disappointed by it. Instead of being stuffy and outdated, this scent delivers a delightful mix of tangy, floral, and powdery notes right off the bat. It’s sweet without being too saccharine in a way that reminds me little of the parfum version of Red Door. The longevity isn’t as great as White Diamonds, but it’s still pretty good overall.

Disclaimer: (And No, I am not reviewing this now as a symbol of support for any political parties that identify with this color. This is just the next Elizabeth Taylor fragrance that I have tried and I'm reviewing).

Red.
The color of roses.
The color that flows through our veins, our hearts.
A color that quickens the pulse. Heats things up.
Red. The color of cinnamon red hots.
The color of rubies.

I've got to admit that I never gave Elizabeth Taylor's perfumes a good try. I was too overwhelmed by the first notes of aldehydes within her White Diamonds perfume to have purchased any other ET perfumes. The only thing that convinced me to try her other perfumes have been the reviews on Fragrantica. Elizabeth Taylor has quite a perfume following.

Today, I took the time to watch the Fragrantica.com Sophia Grojsman film on the perfumer's life.
This is an inspiration to anyone in the perfume industry - or anyone in the arts/design/perfume world.
I recommend seeing it.

I just ordered a bottle of ET's Diamonds and Rubies - and this wears in such a unique way (and is so different from the other Elizabeth Taylor perfumes) that I would not immediately recognize that this is an Elizabeth Taylor perfume.

This has the classic spicy smell of "red hots" - yes, like the cinnamon hot candies that melt in your mouth and turn your tongue red.
I loved "red hots" as a kid. That was one of my all time favorites.

One of the reviews that mentioned that this smelled similar to Estee Lauder's Spellbound was finally the reason that I decided to order this. I'm testing this now, enjoying how this is setting up on my skin.

The general smell of this is a sophisticated blend of the Winner's Circle Red Roses - and one of my all time favorite candies - Red Hots! If this were a design related visual - this resonates with vintage damask red velveteen wallpaper or a beautiful red velvet formal evening gown --- or yes! Santa's Suit!

This has a lot of cinnamon in it, which always has warmth to it. This runs hot...in a good way, however -- sets up on the skin soft and not overly strong. It is definitely something that quickens the pulse.
We'll see. So far, so good!

------------

I'm also sampling Avon's Rare Rubies at the same time. Both have the same type of red roses/cinnamon type blend. Rare Rubies is a much stronger version - more like the classic 1980's perfumes, however - it softens down within the first hour and a half where it wears closer to the skin. I can see why so many people have been begging for Avon to bring this back. It is a great fragrance if you love this type of Christmas/cinnamon perfume. This is very close to some of the notes in Estee Lauder's Cinnabar perfume. Avon's Rare Rubies is a strength that is slightly less bold than EL's Cinnabar - and slightly bolder than ET's Diamonds and Rubies.

------------
Elizabeth Taylor's Diamonds and Rubies, Avon's Rare Rubies, and Estee Lauder's Cinnabar are great for the Holiday Season around Christmas. With the cinnamon blends they are all festive and elegant in their own ways.

-------------

Comparing Elizabeth Taylors perfumes that I've tried so far:

Diamonds and Rubies is resonating in the range of a lot of the 1980's and early 90's perfumes. It is not a dupe for Spellbound, although is created by Sofia Grojsman. I would wear this for more formal occasions and around the holidays more. With the cinnamon and roses, this is a fairly elegant perfume - (although I could see wearing this as your signature if you are someone who likes that type of vibe). I would limit this to fall/winter/maybe early spring when there is still a bit of a chill to the air. This would be overwhelming and almost cloying in the climates that I've lived in - in the summer where we have ranges from 95-112 degrees. The more that I wear this, the more this is growing on me. This is definitely an acquired taste, Sofia is Sofia Grojsman for good reason, she is a fabulous perfume creator...this is like seeing a range of paintings by one of your favorite artists -- she has a distinct style and sophistication that you can definitely discern from a lot of other perfume creators. She does the note of rose in a romantic and alluring way, this is such a classic - I really can't find anything to complain about. The only thing -- does this resonate with your level of sophistication and your personal style? If so - you really should order this. It is pretty amazing -- especially around the Holidays and Christmas. This has hard to beat for the holidays!

I'm also loving Elizabeth Taylor's Diamonds and Emeralds - which is more "ME" - when chilling out and having more of a low key type day. I would reach for this more often because my lifestyle is not as formal now as it was a few years ago. I love the crushed gardenia green notes to this one. This is a fairytale gardenia garden perfume. Love this so much! Pretty AWESOME!

Sparkling White Diamonds -
Another Christmas type blend - only this one resonates more with the vibe of an Ice Princess, like the character in the Disney movies "Frozen". This is beautiful, starts with a very powerful blast of aldehydes similar to the original Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds. I love the dry down of this, it has a lot of lily and musk - very pretty... great for the spring/summer -- but could also be a clean, clear type ice princess vibe for the winter months.

White Diamonds -
This is popular for good reason, everyone loves this one. The dry down is fabulous, but the first hour and a half is too overpowering for my taste. This is so popular that I often hesitate to wear this because I don't want to smell like someone that other people know, I really want to have more of an individualized scent. If you are living in an area where this has not really become a big hit, by all means - claim this one as your own! I love certain aspects of this - but the beginning is pretty strong for me. So many people have been wearing this in Texas and CA - that it is too easily detected. I like something more unique.

Passion -
This is gorgeous on, the more I have worn this - the more I am developing an appreciation for it. This is very similar to Estee Lauder's Youth Dew - which was one of my mother's very favorite perfumes...Passion by ET runs slightly softer, with less silage - however, still shows up and has presence. There is a discernible smokey incense note as well as a lotion note in this which makes this perfume unique - not run of the mill. You'll have to research the reviews on this - this is one of those perfumes that I was too young to have worn when it first came on the market. I'm just now growing into this. It is a gorgeous signature perfume. If I weren't constantly trying new perfumes, this may be "the one" - but there are days when I still want something more light and airy, more like my Eau du Ciel. Who am I kidding, I actually still like variety in my perfumes - I love discovering new perfumes...and I love writing reviews! Passion is a great business woman's perfume, it has a depth that will be taken seriously, it wears at times like a 1980's/early 90's perfume statement. It definitely "makes a statement" - and has the sophistication to be taken seriously. The name "Passion" fits Elizabeth Taylor and is a word that was well chosen to introduce her very first perfume. (Yes, this launched before White Diamonds). This is well crafted, refined, beautiful, and lady-like. It is truly exquisite, sensational. Try this one, you never know... I really think this should have gained as much popularity as White Diamonds, more people need to try this perfume.

Update:

Elizabeth Taylor's Rare Rubies -
Hmmmmm, I wrote a review on this before I had really given it much of a test drive. It starts off smelling like hairspray on me. Then I pick up the rose smell, which is really SWEET. -- I think this is a perfume that is rather limited on me. I want to love this one, but it has a little bit of a plastic-y type chemical smell that mixes with my skin. Maybe it is like the Barbie Doll head that has been left out in the sun a bit too long. I've cleaned up my diet quite a bit - have been eating more protein, salmon, fish. Anytime I do a major diet shift, it effects the fragrances that I used to really love. Sometimes they have a different chemical - chemistry exchange with my skin with a new diet. This perfume is not transitioning well with the recent change in my diet. However, Elizabeth Taylor's Diamonds and Emeralds is definitely transitioning incredibly well. It smells great!

lukataskas

This is very Sophia Grojsman. Rich, deep and “too much” in the best possible sense. I imagine big hair, fancy, shinny dresses, a lot of sweet champagne in those lovely vintage coupe glasses... The scent is nothing like what they create nowadays, very old school and nostalgic, even for someone (me) that never lived in that age. The price is ridiculous for such a beauty. Worth a try if you’re into big and loud old time perfumes or Sophias work.

anitasaastamoinen

In this fragrance there are some similarities with my beloved Tresor, but this is spicier and warmer. I like this a lot, it's a womanly scent and it has some vibes and glamour from the old Hollywood in the 50s. This is definitely a scent for colder season. This is a creation from Sophia Grojsman and I love her scents (Tresor, Volupte, Paris).

SeauxGood

It might sound weird, but Diamonds & Rubies smells exactly how the box looks. It’s warm & spicy, slightly oriental with a whole lot of seduction. I could imagine this on one of the femme fatales in an Art Deco era pulp mystery novel or the BBC's revival of Detective Hercule Poirot. Consider it a budget-conscious alternative to YSL Opium or Tresor by Lancome. Whatever the case, it screams late 80’s/early 90’s.

The juice in Diamonds & Rubies has lots of flowers - lily, lily-of-the valley, orchid, ylang ylang, roses, etc. - layered over the classic peach-amber foundation that is the White Diamonds calling card. The dry down of this one is powdery & spicy with a pinch of woodsy notes. This is a more mature number than Sparkling White Diamonds and Diamonds & Sapphires, but not quite as recognizable as the original. If White Diamonds is what your mother wore, Diamonds & Rubies was the choice of her her jet-setting sister.

It definitely speaks to a bygone age when fragrances were expected to be thick and heavy in order to be taken seriously. Maybe to mask the smell of the wearer's cigarette smoke. It reminds me why the crisp/fresh/clean scents (Cool Water, CK One, etc.) grew in popularity only a couple years after this line debuted.

AMGMoonHalo

On the fence on this one. ETD&R EDT is a powdery spiced, fruit, rose dominant, fragrance. In order to control the application, use a cotton ball and dab. This one has decent staying power. The initial spray was complex. Not the usual citrus fresh blast one experiences with today's more modern fragrances. I acquired this one, but, right now the climate is much too hot and humid to appreciate this. Due to this, all I get is sweetened spiced fruit preserves, rose, and powder. It does have warmth and depth, but I need to try this in cold weather. This isn't the spicy oriental in comparison to London Burberry, Opium, or Obsession, these latter fragrances are much spicier. Became an arm's length sweet powdered rose with one spray on the back of my hand within a couple of hours. I was worried about the benzoin as Kim Kardashian's Gold is headache-inducing for me. But, this was not like KKG even with all the complex notes. Between Diamonds & Rubies, Diamonds & Sapphires, and Diamonds & Emeralds, I gravitate towards the D&E and in second place is D&S.

Edit: The weather has cooled off for a short time (Oct 2020). I get a lot of powder, peach, almond, and rose with vanilla. Definitely a dress up evening scent. I think of a scene from a movie where a lady sings a sultry jazz tune in front of a grand piano in a long fancy dress. One definitely has to have nostalgia to appreciate the work of this perfumer.

kateclarkecosmetics

A definite must have safe blind buy if you love Sophia. Very typical of her work, it’s like Eternity and Paris got together and had a kid! It does have a touch of greeness running through it in the same way Nahema by Guerlain does. Nahema is Turkish delight, this is syrupy, amber, delicious rose. Nahema is cool rose, this is warmer. I never get the peach notes in her work. Perhaps slightly in Tresor. The initial alcohol blast goes within a minute or so. Very elegant and an even more beautiful price! Slightly spicy in the dry down but not enough for me to call this a floriental. On me it’s pure rose and just maybe a touch of almond. One thing I have noticed - your skin either loves or hates Sophias fragrances. Mine adore them. Very good work.

janelbragg

I can recommend this perfume to only one very specific group: people dressing up or posing as androids or other non-human types. It will give you the special chemical smell that no one will be expecting or will ever soon forget.

Gicha

I was expecting a bit more saturated and rich aroma but somehow I feel only PEACH and no jasmine, no Lilly, no roses as it should be. This perfume is very very similar to Fancy Love Jessica Simpson, I might say it's an absolute twin perfume to it.
I bought is because some relievers wrote that it's similar to Sun Moon Stars of Karl Lagerfeld but unfortunately it is far from it. I was disappointed by the smell I felt...

BlondeMoments

tangledvines.. yes black pearls is rather garish and gaudy..lol. D&R is a very womanly scent. Sweet but not candy..feminine as in very womanly..not girly.
Rose, sweet jammy peach, spices in background, very vanilla very powdery drydown. I can wear this anywear, anytime, with no doubts. yes it can smell a bit alcoholic at first spray..as many toilettes do..but hairspray? not at all.
give it a moment to settle, then smell the real fragrance of it. Feminine, comforting, womanly, glamorous..a bit gourmand.

** The parfum, that is very rare to find..smells more like fresh spice, the toilette is sweeter, and my preference

perfumeninja

@indiglo my own personal experience with D&R has been that the original testing I did with the pure perfume was so much better than the large EDT I bought.

I really love the perfume version and it is much smoother and spicier than the EDT which does sort of deliver a big hairspray type cloud. I had to wait a long time to get to the part where I enjoyed it with the EDT version.
That is just "my own experience".

It might be helpful if reviewers would mention which formula they tried as I did find a huge difference in the scent overall.

I'm hoping that by hanging onto the EDT that one day it might mellow or at least I'll experience it differently. :)

Edit: Update 3/25/2022 - I wore Millenia today and it is one of my most loved perfumes. It is spicy and sweet and reminds me a bit of Wish by Chopard. That spiciness was making me think that there was something of Diamonds and Rubies in Millenia. (Spoiler alert: there is NOT.)

I brought my EDT bottle of D&R out and sprayed it on a piece of tissue. I don't like the first hour or more of the EDT. It really reminds me of a hairspray that I recalled someone using. I kept smelling it through the house from where I sprayed it in the bathroom.

Before I went to bed I grabbed the tissue off the top of the bathroom wastebasket and smelled it. It was just beginning to morph into what the pure perfume smells like.
I just don't like the EDT and I'm not sure I will ever spray it right on my skin. I may change my mind one day but I don't see how.

For now I would say absolutely get the perfume because it is a beautiful spicy fragrance but I really don't care for the EDT.

Happy sniffing!

indiglo

Update, encouraging retry today, not getting that musty note. I wonder if the sprayer needed to get clear of some oxidation. I'm starting to like it! It's rather unique (to me) too.
A bit cloying and heavy for me at first, better on dry down. Not apparently going to be a fave for me. I like Emeralds and love Sapphires though.
------------------------------------------
@perfumeninja, thanks for your comments. I'm adding a note here.
[EDT, House of Taylor]
First try-out, well it wasn't love at first sniff for me unfortunately. Too sweet, a weird mustiness. I like spice and this wasn't at all too heavy for me in that department. Rose can be a problem for me, though this is an odd dustier rose on me, not the nuclear rose I get from some fragrances.
I'm working on it. Some fragrances I have to acclimate to.

Planet_X

Surprised noone has mentioned that this frag is very very similar with Sun Moon Stars that Sophia did for KL. Just more affordable "same-thing" basically. Same spicy mulled wine-christmas parties vibe in it, same baked peach on woody-sweet base. Years ago everyone wanted to be "ultra-modern" and wear something extremely extravagant and crazy - to smell like a tarmac, or rain, or new car's leather seats...Hmmm. Now you are on trend, if you are going retro. So I suppose Sophia's frags again as avant-garde as years before - to be a woman, to wear a medium length dress, to curl your long hair, to smell of fruits, powder, lipstick. Trendy!

meg0825

An inexpensive gem! Powdery and spicy rose with syrupy peaches and a subtle almond note. If you like Tresor you will like this too. They both have a lovely peach and rose combination. No one does rose quite like Sophia Grojsman. Fantastic!

deviant_dee

I find it odd that it says on here first for main accords 'warm spicy' because for me it's predominantly floral...with that peach note flowing through. I'll admit that when it settles down there's subtle spice, it actually reminds me a little of the smell of rooibos tea. Overall though, on me, it's a glam floral. I'm not saying they smell identical but it's got that YSL Parisienne vibe. A classy feminine scent with a rebellious streak.

It's a well crafted perfume but a tad bit too floral sweet for me, a gal who prefers darker spicy perfumes.

Contessa01

This is my favorite of the white diamonds line. Amongst the more mature fragrances white diamonds I think is one of the best though I don't wear it much myself. I really like diamonds and rubies, I agree with the reviewer comparing it with tresor, that is, mixing the original fragrance with tresor's peach notes and a bit of a powder note in it as well.

Heretic_Housewife

This is a Sophia Grojsman creation through and through.

My initial reaction to smelling Diamonds and Rubies was "Coty Exclamation grew up and got a makeover".

To me, the sweet, nectar-y peach note dominates the blend, with the floral and Oriental notes in the background. I specifically smell peaches, vanilla, rose, spice, and carnation.

I love it, but I love all of Grojsman's peachy fragrances. I only have a bottle of the current EDT. I am on the lookout for older versions to try. I once had a parfum mini, but can't remember it at all. I must have liked it because I used it up.

Unfortunately this formula (2019 EDT) performs like a body spray on me. A skin scent within 15 minutes and gone completely within a couple of hours. Which is disappointing, because I like it so much.

Lixa

Just discovered this and it's splendid, especially since it's such a bargain (it definitely smells 6 times more expensive). I would say it's a combination between Tresor (peach) and Chanel 5 (powder). Absolutely Amazing find.
This is a "50's femme fatale" scent, glamorous and larger than life in the old Hollywood kind of way. Longevity is excellent for an EDT. I love it, and will buy again.

A Reflection of the Heart

This one gave me a major headache and allergic reaction with sneezing and stuffy head. Neither aldehydes nor chypre notes are listed. But to my nose, there is an intense blast of something...as well as a chypre aspect to this fragrance. This has also been noted by others, both directly using the word chypre and by describing a "camphorous" or medicinal aspect to it. I didn't spend much, so if it doesn't work out that's OK. But it's a Sopjhia Grojsman creation, I like all the listed notes, and I'd love it to work. So, I'm not quite ready to give up. I'll use more sparingly will explore layering with something sweet.

Update: So I actually threw this out last night but rescued it, resolving to use just a bit of it, Frankinsteined with a honey/rose, a bright rose, and an amber/spicy, to see if I could manage to come up with something I loved and that wouln't give me a headache and allergic reaction. I thought I was sucessful, but it was wishful thinking. Unfortunately, my body doesn't work well with Elizabeth Taylor perfumes.

Phantomias

A warm and sweet/spicy fragrance. Cinnamon is prominent and supported by fruity notes. Sandalwood grounds the composition. Not quite sweet enough to become a fruit salad, DaR is feminine and fun to wear.
Moderate sillage and lasting power. I have the vintage parfum in the gold bow bottle, which came in a coffret with three additional ET fragrances.

VanillaTabbyCat1963

Beautiful rose-dominant floral. Lots of syrupy peach with spice which makes this a great choice for the holiday season next approaching us. Despite the long list of notes, I don't get much of anything more than perhaps vanilla in this scent. I'm not decided if that is necessarily a bad thing, although I love what's listed. Kind of a less tart and more wearable (on myself) Tresor. I

What was once a well-blended high-quality department store fragrance has turned into a cheapy drug store brand.

Since her passing, Elizabeth Taylor's brand is going downhill. I received Diamonds and Rubies sealed new inbox. Once opened, I was shocked to find that the spray nozzle was made of cheap clear plastic and not the usual gold plated finish I was used to. Well the perfume itself smells like the plastic cap. Yes, it smells like plastic and has a strong chemical smell.

Be warned that anything made by "House of Taylor" is inferior to the original high-quality fragrance made by "EA Fragrances Co."

What was once a well-blended high-quality department store fragrance has turned into a cheapy drug store brand. It's sad that those who manage her estate would let things get this bad.

JacquelineRenee

I am quite fond of Diamonds and Sapphires. I appear to be in the minority, as I love cool, creamy, ozonic water scents. I have no idea why I purchased Diamonds and Rubies, as I do not care for floral oriental fragrances; however, I could not resist a bargain, so I picked it up.

When I got home and sprayed a bit on my wrist, I was as bit taken back by the very strong scent of cloves; I couldn't smell anything else, and I placed it on my vanity as a fragrance I would likely not wear again. For some reason, it kept calling to me, and each and every day, I would take the top off and smell. Soon enough, I began to smell other notes; rose, peach, Lilly of the Valley, etc. etc. I eventually worked my way back to trying it again, and it was a complexly different fragrance to me this time. Once you get past the initial burst of spice, it settles into this dreamy kind of sweet creamy powdery more subdued spiced rose scent, and now I cannot seem to get enough of it. It was the best $13 dollars I have ever spent.

perfumeninja

Diamonds and Rubies came into my life by way of a small box of "gifted" fragrances from a family member who loved going to estate auctions and garage sales.

Amongst the perfumes in this bunch were these little egg shaped mini bottles of perfumes. They have little gold metal bows on the top as the stopper.

I tucked them away and didn't think much about them. One was White Diamonds and the other Diamonds and Emeralds and then Diamonds and Rubies in parfum form.

Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds was never a fragrance I cared for and so I lumped all her line of perfumes together. I would have never given it a second glance and back in 1993 probably called it a mature woman's fragrance. No way!

From time to time I'd grab out the little "Rubies" bottle and give it a sniff. I didn't dislike it but I'd put it away and forget it.

Just in the recent months I started dabbing it on and now I seem to have fallen in love with it. I'm a confirmed spice lover so of course this is a perfume I'd love!
Original EL Cinnabar is in my top five of all time.

Diamonds and Rubies is for a woman with some life experience under her belt, a woman with confidence and ability. She's also a woman who is feminine and warm.

I love the cinnamon-y spices in this perfume and it would be ideal wearing for the festive seasons of the year when the air is crisp and fireplace smoke wafts through the cold air.

The perfume will wrap itself around you and your family and friends will love getting warm hugs from you smelling of Diamonds and Rubies. Memories are made of such things.

Diamonds and Rubies is a beautiful fragrance that was created by the famous perfumer Sophia Grojsman and is expertly blended. It is going for mere dollars at discount stores and is a true find for the spice lover.

I'm planning on being well stocked on this one for the upcoming fall and winter season.

Edit: I recently bought a large 3.4 ounce EDT in this at TJ Maxx. Today while doing an "in the morning before showering" sampling of this EDT I can't stop smelling the back of my hand. The EDT settles down to the same lovely scent as the perfume. Tempted to wear this today but I'll save it for fall. What a great find! It was $12.99 for a beautiful spicy Sophia Grojsman creation.

2nd Edit: I am not finding the EDT as enjoyable as the perfume. I would recommend the pure perfume. Everytime I spray the ET I seem to wait for the drydown to happen as it's a bit harsh at the opening. I am not sorry I bought the EDT because I still do believe that perfumes mellow over time and our noses change. One day I will relish in having this large EDT.
First samplers may want to go by the perfume formula though! It is really gorgeous.

I have to add that I don’t often get compliments on my perfume these days, mainly because fragrances are weaker and have little or no sillage because of scent stabilizers being reduced in the past few years .

That said, I can honestly say that I have never worn this in public without a stranger making a comment about how good I smell . Yes, really . And it is Elizabeth Taylor and costs very little and lasts all day . I love this exotic spicy floral, but it will not go over with the crowd who leans toward marshmallows and pralines. The creator of this perfume is Sophia Grojsman , who is an icon in perfumery . To me , D&R has some similarities to the vintage Samsara , along with Estée Lauder Spellbound . Those two classics are stripped of complexity and longevity, and Diamonds and Rubies is worth exploring if you love those . Definitely rich and made for a WOMAN .

This is a true rich oriental and it is actually elegant despite the bargain price and sneers from people who will call it an old lady perfume. When I was young, girls wore perfumes like Opium , Obsession, Rive Gauche, and Azuree . They were head turners and not considered geriatric . No 70s hipster would be caught wearing perfumes that smelled like cupcakes for middle schoolers as they jammed to the Beatles , Jimmi Hendrix, and
The Moody Blues.

I hope Diamonds and Rubies never gets the reformulation hatchet , but I have a backup bottle next to my backups of Guerlain and Jil Sander#4 . This is my most complimented perfume when I leave my home and am in public .

sandifitzg

I so wanted to like this one but the combination of peach and rose confuses my nose. I want to smell rose or peach as dominant but it is like they are melded together into an entirely new flower scent. There is also something medicinal lurking somewhere is the back ground.
I love the bottle and the sillage and lasting power is very good. I will wear it today with 2 sprays and see how it goes.

Elsee

Received today. Hmmm...does anyone think this smells similar to Giorgio Red? I need to try them side by side but it was the first thing I thought of when I smelled it. It's actually pretty good and sort of mesmerizing.

Happy sniffing everyone! And Happy Mother's Day!

stephdray

This review is for the vintage perfume in the little egg dabber bottle:

Oh goodness. So, the good news is that this is absolutely recognizable as the same fragrance as the modern EDT. Reformulations haven't butchered it. In fact, the modern EDT might be stronger in terms of longevity and sillage.

The bad news is that this vintage is so much softer, smoother and better blended. Yes, it opens with a scary alcohol note. After that, it's all elegance. It is still a warm spicy peach rose, but you can't easily pick those notes out. This is a real beauty. Truly a rare gem.

stephdray

This review is for the modern EDT as of 2019:

This is a simply amazing old school fragrance that can stand up against anything from the high price perfume houses. The opening will scare you, but hold on!

It's a drunk peachy rose--but that doesn't do it justice. The spices and powder are also noticeable even before the drydown giving the impression of a very grand lady at her dressing table powdering her nose.

It has BEASTLY sillage and longevity. I love it so much that I'm prone to overspray--will have to scale back, because it basically becomes a cloud around you. But if it smothers me to death it's not a bad way to go. Very different from the original White Diamonds, but absolute quality. The best of the flankers by far, and there are a few good ones, too.

To the previous reviewer: Diamonds and Rubies is rich and it lasts, which makes it ( sadly) superior to the Tom Ford scents I have tested and owned as of Mar 2019. It is fairly intense upon the opening notes, but it soon softens and I smell it all day . I often get compliments on this one, and there are not many scents these days that have any sillage at all ( unless you shower in your perfume).

If someone misses the classic strong and spicy orientals, they should give this a try.

Also, White Diamonds lasts all day and is well composed. Though it has been around for many years I just discovered it . I find it well made , rich, and elegant . The EDT and the EDP are both lovely , and the EdP sometimes be found on sale at Fragrancenet .

These two perfumes are great values and well done.

Here is the deal...This is a solid oriental floral for an incredible price. I have purchased designer and/or niche brands which didn’t smell as nice and had worse performance. It has a spicey fresh powder dry down which has pretty good longevity and is overal a unique scent. I think this is a good signature and an incredible price per spray in terms of value. Of course it not ground breaking, and of course this is not Tom Ford. But... do you want to pay houndreds of dollars for a perfume you spray once a day which has a fresh spiced drydown: or, do you want to spray yourself 2/3 times a day with this gem and get the full breakdown (from the top notes to the heart and finally base) in several sweeps. Overall, this is an incredible value buy. Furthermore, this is a great intro to oriental florals.
Win!

Although clove is not among the notes in particular I storngly smell it in this perfume and that's not a good thing for me, unfortunatelly. This supposed to be a rich, warm spicy rose scent but all I smell is covet surrounded by some flowers. It's a pity.

However, I see why others like it so much, it's a beautiful creation for those who like this type of spicyness, like in Sun, MOon, Stars for example which is again a big no for me because of the same clove-y notes in it.

SIllage and longevity is above average.

Edit: after more than 12 hours of wearing it started to grow on me. I find it softer, however more intersting now. I really don't like cloves and it almost ruined the whole composition for me but I hope that if I try to apply this perfume differently (just a light tpuch with a cotton ball, for example), this perfume could work for me as well. I would never thought that one spray behing each ears would be that much that I will be overwhelmed by it for a whole day!

Is cheap - smells cheap! (Oor's 'andbag comes to mind!) And yet ... there's something terribly naughty about it! (Again - as I've just said!) That über-synthetic-smelling insect-repellant vibe that to me dominates this - it's just so audacious & spot-on! Little stroke of genius ... love the stuff!

@ceaidetei -- I think I must be as sensitive to the chemicals in this as you are insensitive: I just sprayed a tiny bit on my wrist, and it just won't be through lobbing whiffs at me!

Anamandy

I just bought the edt. from Walmart for $9.00, so I figured if I don't care for it it's cheap enough that I can give it away. On first spray it comes out like a blast of alcohol that takes a real long time to dissipate. Then comes the spices and a synthetic oily smell. The alcohol synthetic smell is starting to dissipate but the spices are so overwhelming I can't smell anything else. There is definitely cinnamon, clove, and allspice in this mix. If there are flowers or powder here, I can't smell them. Actually, this smells exactly like a room freshener I use during the holidays. I doubt anyone I know who likes spicy scents will like this since it is so overwhelming. I only used one spray on my wrist and the whole house now smells like this stuff. I'll probably be using it in the future during the holidays to give the house that holiday feel. As an aside, I highly doubt when Elizabeth Taylor was alive, she'd be caught dead wearing a fragrance like this. Someone here called the edt. vile. I have to agree. This is really bad.

I purchased this as another blind buy during the Summer. This is the complete opposite in strength in the Diamond series. For me Diamonds and Rubies was too heavy on the spices where the rose and powdery goodness were escaping me leaving me with a dull headache. I can say that this scent is likable and worth trying for $10.

rastamama

Love ! I received this today and I have the flu so my nose isn’t great so forgive me if I’m incorrect but to me it has a Gloria Vanderbilt powder scent to it. I love this fragrance, very feminine and ladylike. On me it’s lilac, amber and musk...beautiful.
I wore white diamonds and all of the other fragrant jewels when I was younger but usually just grabbed for whichever and never took the time to have a favorite. Too young to care I suppose, but I do recall them all smelling wonderful. So I’ve decided to recollect them and I started with this one Rubies. Even though I’m sick it is a comforting non offensive scent. It can be worn year round, day or night. I really am enjoying this while I’m here in bed channel surfing. I can’t wait to wear it out when I’m feeling better. Safe blind buy... so classic and timeless.
Edit: Wore this today. It’s raining on and off. This smells so classic, comforting, powdery and pleasant. I will be reaching for this often until Summer, heck it may work during warmer weather as well. For the price I’d say a definite safe blind buy. Smells like I paid much much more than I actually did. Oh and now that I’m no longer stuffy I agree with my previous review it does have a Gloria Vanderbilt powder vibe to it.

Marie69

Testing today a vintage mini, perfume. Let it breathe a little. Now to me, Diamonds and Rubies is greener and softer than diamonds or Sun, Moon, Stars. It is spicy, carnation perhaps, and rose too. The peachy aspects are subtle and the carnation more dominant. It is rich though, and powdery. Signature Sophie G classic sweet floral but greener and softer than other SG scents. Agreed that this one is more along the lines of Volupte but not violet, rather rose based. This is more spicy and ambered than White Diamonds. Strong, same as most SGs. Elizabeth Taylor's line seems to age well so pick up those vintage minis for pennies. These may well go up in price in the future, as like Liz herself, ...they don't make 'em like that anymore.....

Yes....to all the above "reminds me of's"....Nahema,Tentations and Sun Moon and Stars...and I will add...yes...Samsara Light vibe as well. This scent has to goe thru it's thing....developement wise and blending with your chemistry...ect... It goes thru changes on the skin for sure. The first blast is...kinda cheapy perfume vibe..then quickly the changes start to happen, resulting in an amazing drydown....Patience required...worth more than the low price paid....classic.

Diamonds and Rubies has a lot of my favorite notes, and it's so well blended. But mostly it is quintessential Sophia Grojsman; this is SO in her style of rich, romantic oriental fragrances with peach, spice, and rose. Yes, it's heavy, and undeniably better in cold temperatures. But it's so lush and rich and warm, like a hug from someone you are actually glad to see.

D&R feels timeless, not dated. Very like Guerlain's Nahema, but more approachable. It's rose-forward, but not just a rose scent because the peach and spice add such a velvety character. It's like a rose and peach spiced pie (but not sweet). Heavy from the benzoin and amber, and also replete with allspice or British Mixed Spice - keep out of reach of children!

You won't enjoy this if you want something light, fresh, or gourmand. But if you have a longing for glamor and comfort, give this a try.

Jobob

I just bought this because one of the reviewers said it smelled like sun moon and stars by Lagerfeld and I loved that fragrance. Well, it is just about identical when I did a side by side comparison of the two and since it is impossible to find a bottle of sun moon and stars that doesn't smell off I'm thrilled too have this inexpensive hidden gem! Both scents were created by Sophia Grojsman so that explains the similarities. The spice is very subtle in this scent with the soft rose, white flowers and then a creamy and powder dry down. Wait before you judge this fragrance when first spraying on because my initial response was a no like until a few minutes went by and then it was wow I love it.

socorrosouza

Diamond and Rubies on my skin is very different from Charlie Gold, its main notes are rose and spicy peaches on an amber/benzoin/vanilla .Longevity is 4 hours wth soft to moderate sillage for 2 hours. Charlie Gold is spicy caramel on my skin a very SPICED caramel, sweeter than D&R but also longer lasting (7-hours plus with heavy sillage).I find D&R better balanced and more sophisticated but this is me.

Timby

Though I am generally not a fan of designer scents, however the ET ones stand out as one of the better.
D&R is warm, round, sultry. Clearly a red rose fragrance, with subtle spices.

Strong echoes of Volupte (which is more green), Tresor (which is lighter, brighter, less spicy) and Charlie Gold...I think this is the closest match.

With Charlie Gold that can be had at $10, and D&R that can be purchased at $20... these are very reasonable scents.

If you are looking for yourself or a gift, and like any of those I mentioned, you will most probably like the others. Having said that, at the lower price point, D&R makes a more elegant presentation as a gift that Charlie Gold.

It is no coincidence that all the above were developed by the same nose. Clearly, it was a winning formula, and was retweaked for different fragrance names.

Silage good
Longevity excellent.

My mum bought me this back in 2012, and I adored it. Along with the other Diamond perfumes released by Elizabeth Taylor, this one is one of the best out there. Incredibly cheap as well.

It has this spicy lingering scent to it, very floral and long lasting. Though I was 16 at the time wearing this, I do agree that it is quite mature of a perfume and reminds me of vintage clothing for an odd reason.

The packaging is pretty sweet and sophisticated too. I recommend giving it a try, considering its a classic and mature scent that has a warmth to it.

Peach145

This was my grandmother's signature fragrance.

gtabasso

thought I would love this best based on notes; a bit rancid like rotted rose petals in a compost heap and cough syrup at first; for me the almond wood, spices and heliotrope with a funky rose dominate the top then benzoin starts to hit out but the almond note still steals the show, not in a gourmand way but competing with the rose to win; the base is where it's at with all the notes melding to create a creamy warm cocoon to darken the almond note and turn the florals warm; dislike the top, like the base where in the final drydown the spices, including cinnamon, take hold with the rose and the sweetness

SweetLadyForOne

Being a fan of a couple Sophia Grojsman fragrances, I decided to give this one a try. I'm surprised how much I like it! I mean because it was pretty cheap, & I didn't think I would like an Elizabeth Taylor perfume. I was a little worried about the cinnamon, But it's a warm comforting gorgeous scent. I'm Glad I took the chance.

brt

After reading the reviews on this one, I took a chance and made a blind buy. I've had some time to wear it and I find myself growing quite fond of it. A spicy, peachy, cinnamon-y rose that makes me feel all cozy and snuggly. It was cool and rainy here today and it fit my mood just perfectly. It brings Tresor to mind but D&R is not as sweet to my nose and somewhat softer with a touch of Ms. Taylor's glamour. Very nice especially for the price. I'll enjoy this in the late fall and winter or on drizzly summer days.

odie

A lovely fragrance to add to your collection. On first spray, I get this radiating spicy rose.....lovely. It continues with this loveliness until it gets to a warm, milky, powdery undertow which remains closer to your skin. The thought that came to me at the time on Saturday - we were shopping for fathers day gifts- was "this is not a poor woman's perfume!"

My sister did not like it at all, in fact, she doesn't really go for powdery scents and told me she does not like any of Elizabeth Taylor's offerings. Do I think it's dated? No. Certainly, it is different and celebrates luxury. I think it could have used a little more benzoin though....something more uplifting, perhaps the mentholated magic of a bit of tuberose. However, the spice is there. Sorry dear sister but I like this!

Power to those who love and wear this!

Tigi

I truly adore this gorgeous fragrance, Oriental, spicy-florals are some of my favorites and ET's Diamonds & Rubies is exemplary, beautifully so, of the type.
The fragrance is a 10/10 for me due to the complex, other-worldly beauty.
Performance: She's a total BEAST. Even though I'm a terrible over-sprayer, two sprays of D&R lasts hours and hours! Sillage is moderate to monstrous, depending upon application.
Value (bang to buck ratio) = off the charts. This fragrance is hilariously inexpensive, in diametric opposition to her beauty and quality.

Review for the Parfum : I finally get it! While I have struggled liking the edt (all I smell is pepper; occasionally I will get some rose, never any peach) the parfum in the tiny little bow bottle is gorgeous. Thick, velvety spiced rose with that fruity undercurrent; spicy with just the right amount of sweetness. Not a candied sweetness, either. Someone mentioned Tresor (which I also love) and I will throw in Spellbound as perfumes that this is similar to. I am so glad I stumbled on this and got it.

I wanted to add that the parfum is very creamy and smooth, and in the deep drydown, I can smell a very slight amaretto-like scent, which is the almonds. I have the edt on one wrist and the parfum in the other. I *do* find the edt stronger but I’m pretty sure it’s because it’s a spray, whereas the parfum is a dab.

janedelamare

spray it lightly on your knees under your jeans. it's a powerhouse, so go lightly.

very Sophia G. -- like a spicy tressor. i smell a nose tickly, black peppery, rose, with apricot pit. i don't smell a whole lot of peach.

to me, this isn't dated, because i never knew it back then... love it as newly introduced to me in 2018.

Mrs. ELE Arjona

Elizabeth Taylor fragrances all tell a story and take you on a ride. I am currently collecting and reviewing them all. This so far is the only Elizabeth Taylor fragrance I don't seem to care for, and my Husband doesn't like it either. It doesn't smell bad, but something about it doesn't suit my personality. At first spray I suppose it is rather peachy in a boozy sense. I think the almond comes off very bitter on my skin and when first sprayed, and that makes the spices somewhat off putting to my nose. I think the banana-ness of the ylang-ylang possibly may be a turn off. I don't prefer the candied taste or smell of the artificial banana. The floral is dominated by the powder of rose. The rest of the floral comes off as sort of sickly sweet and off putting, I think the lilac and LOTV are in full stomach turning bloom to my nose. I think the benzoin and the vanilla add to the sick/sweet factor.

What I do like about the scent is the spices, I like the rose/floral I get when smelled in cold air. I think if I could wear this all day I would like when it dries down to the base, the Amber/Musk/Woody vanilla sounds divine! I'm looking forward to spraying this on a willing tester, because honestly perfume does either work with or against our chemistry, and just like how food tastes, smell is also a preference. I don't believe in completely hating any perfume, because it must smell good to someone/on someone right? And if you read the reviews people adore this fume.

Now in defense of this I think it smells better on me in cold weather, and I happen to live in Florida. I tried to do a test on my arm on a January day...after it dried down I went outside to ask my Husbands opinion...I found the cold air sort of brought the floral-ness out and I was actually enjoying the scent. I'm glad I own it, I have Black Pearls and WD Luster left to collect, and all her other scents I enjoy. So I guess I was bound to not prefer one. Its interesting out of the fragrant jewels it seems there is always one that reviews mention they absolutely don't prefer. Its interesting, because 2 out of 3 isn't bad! Someday hopefully Ill give this a true few days to wear and see if it grows upon me, or I'm sure someone I know will love it and I can gift them the 3.3oz bottle.

Also...I wonder if Ms. Taylor liked Peach Schnapps as a mixer or in drinks. I feel like all of her fumes are part of her personality. I think this is the Party Girl Liz. Dressed to kill, something spicy was had for dinner, or perhaps a spice cake/peach tart for dessert, the garden is in full bloom and our dear Liz is holding her liquor and has a boozy peach drink in her hand. Dripping in rubies. When conjure this vision of her in my head, the scent seems right on the money!

After reading all the reviews, and being a big S. Grojsman fan, I went to the nearest perfumery shop and - I think it was a destiny - they had Diamonds and rubies, Diamonds and emeralds and diamonds and sapphires fragrances on sale for 4.99 euro eachl! So I just grabbed one Diamonds and Rubies, and as soon as I came back home, I sprayed it on my wrist (there were no testers in the shop).

I can't believe how this fragrance reminds of Eternity! I used to wear Eternity back in a day and I know it very well. D&R is for me more Eternity and less SMS, and 100% Grojsman! Even if I didn't know this perfume was created by her, I would have recognised her unmistakable style. The fact that I don't detect any rose and that the fragrance develops rather cool and close to my skin might be due to the very cold winter day, and I can totally imagine how this beauty will show more dimensions when the temperatures rise. To be honest, I always passed this frag without bothering to try it - a good lesson to never underestimate the "cheap" stuff. O, and something else - this perfume is by no means old fashioned or outdated, it is a well crafted, well balanced, long lasting, beautifully presented fragrance which is worth having in the collection, especially if you are a Sophia Grojsman fan.

jacob_blunkall

One of my absolute FAVOURITES!!
So yummy, rich, luxurious, yet affordable!
Strongly suggest!

Purchased on a blind buy the other day for 12.99 in the Christmas gift set with the huge bottle of EDT and tube of lotion.

I really wanted to love it, but on me it's just not great. Letting it settle, I can see how it evolves into something creamy at the end but it just doesn't seems to sit well on me. It's not awful, but something in the way the spice meets the rose I believe, or just in the spices don't work on me.

I can however, see where on some women this would smell marvelous. I adore Liz Taylors Passion which is loaded with spice and generally love warm scents in cold weather so I will likely give this another try or two in the future. The scent it brings into my memory is Georgio Red, however I have not actually smelled that for many years and could be way off. Have not tried her other Diamond extensions and would most likely love one of them. So far it's been Passion, Violet Eyes, both of which I find beautiful and White Diamonds I find quite pleasant actually if not over done.

tyekristopher

I finally got around to buying this today, I also picked up emeralds as well but did not get saphire. So out of the two I got I loved rubies, I figured I would like emeralds more but nope rubies smells like a nice creamy peach, faint spice and I don't detect rose like listed. The initial burst is not so pleasant but after it settles on the skin it is beautiful! it out lasted emeralds I do like emeralds but rubies stole the show! for 14 bucks it's a steal! I love this scent, hope it never gets discontinued

freddinos

Revisiting this beauty after I gave it away a few months ago.
I in fact missed it so just bought it again, it’s so affordable that the margin for error is vast!
I don’t need to add much to the descriptive reviews, I am just going to do a comparison to Nahema and Tentations.
Nahema isn’t really similar to Diamonds and Rubies (as I initially thought prior to doing a wrist to wrist comparison), it opens more smoky, more dusty rosey and feels more serious in a way.
Tentations has more peachy and sweet undertones, and it indeed shares some resemblance to D&R. It’s a bit more boozy/vanillic to my nose.
Of the three, I personally prefer D&R. Its base notes strike me as clean, spicy, powdery like only Sophia Grojsman can do. It’s a fabulous perfume, cozy, sweet, a bit dated, like a mother’s embrace. I love it.

Gwenhwyfar

Now, THIS is a pleasant surprise! Finally, a good,,,no...great quality scent at an unbelievable price. Not that it matters all that much when a good perfume is concerned. But still, it's a nice bonus, so why not? Makes it easier to try out at least a couple of more from this line. But from all the reviews I can see that this is the favorite with people out of all ET perfumes. So, I will probably not say anything new about this - like to most other reviewers to me this scent is mainly boozy spicy heady ripe peach with just a hint of floral background on the bed of creamy almondy powder. To me the rose here is not prominent at all, just so very slight, and almond is very prominent. I loooove almond notes in perfumes, so that's great! I don't know if it's benzoine or almond that gives the powdery dry down such a smooth creamy undertone.
I agree with the reviewer before me, Gambrina, that applying it to skin brings out the notes in this perfume much better than spraying just on clothes. My skin is naturally hot and dry. It seems that this perfume requires heat from the body to flourish fully, and the fabric of clothes will just carry the flat sweetness of it without any development.
It has this retro vibe, though, and I mean it in the best way possible. I don't feel nothing synthetic, harsh or out of place here and I'm not easy to please, especially with cheapie scents. It reminds me of my top 5 favorite Armani Si, in the way that they are both boozy-sweet, and that I actually relish each and every spray of both of them, without any logical reasoning or noticing of notes. Just pure enjoyment. But of course, they are totally different in notes and scent, just the similar emotional response they raise in me. I guess I like booze and sweets))

Gambrina

A lot of people accuse this perfume in being cheap and smelling chemical. At first I would agree, partially, but after you let it stand for a while and apply to a hot wet skin (my natural skin condition) it turns out marvelously classy like a perfume of an opera diva or a movie star.

I think the common mistake people make is applying it directly on the clothes or on dry cold skin. I believe so after trying it on my handkerchief a few times, where even after a time it smelled like some logistic product.

Try it on the skin after hot bath or shower and under the clothes to preserve the smell and it will blossom on you like it was intended to.

cocolover56

I'll be agreeing with the two reviewers above my review. However, I'll be agreeing ONLY in relation to the EDT. If one wants to truly enjoy this, the parfum is the only way to go.

Not to sound horrid or anything. My opinion is very much the same for things like Coco Noir

Ebay will probably have vintages of this (discontinued long ago) relatively affordably for a 3.7mL bottle.

My argument is very much the same for all of the Diamonds (White, Emeralds and Sapphire), the parfums are the only real way to go and the only way they blossom. The EDTs are almost vile.

adrienn99

this is my second time wearing this fragrance and looks like I've come to same conclusion on both occassions, which is... spiced powdery peaches with some white floral background.
The only reason why it's kind of disappointing for me is because I sampled this hoping it would be a rose dominant frag.
I think this would be less suited for a rose lover and more suited for a spicy chypre fan.

Annabear

Totally agree with SmokeySings78, until I read her review, I was too cowardly to write one of my own because I don't love this fragrance at all. I have noticed a sad trend on this website, if someone doesn't agree with your review of a fragrance, they'll give you a thumbs down.
I am not sure that the thumbs down function was intended to be used simply because you do or don't like the fragrance that someone is writing lovely compliments about or panning it...I think this proves that we do not live in a society where a different opinion is tolerated, it's immediately attacked by the vigilantes who have a different take on it. The thumbs up button is fabulous, and I use it often, especially when the review is written well.
On to the fragrance, I bought it blindly because it was so beloved by many reviewers here, and it was such a bargain basement price. On me this is so pedestrian, Elnett hairspray with some artificial chemicals thrown in. Now that's on me, I am sure that it smells gorgeous on those of you who have praised it to the heavens.

cocolover56

Diamonds & Rubies parfum is quite similar to Guerlain's Nahema.

Both open in such a way that might remind one of jelly crystals. This is mostly likely due to the peach & rose combo.

The spices that aren't listed, to me, seem to be soft nutmeg, corriander seeds and pepper.

Would be 10/10 if it weren't for the longevity. Just beautiful

marina.corradini

I followed the reviews on here and purchased the current EDT. Sorry, I don't think it's nice :o) Cannot be compared to beautiful "Tentations"! Smells chemical and cheap.
I've just came across a vintage mini of Chloe Narcisse and I find it to be very similar to D&R, they share 8 notes.

MikiRae

One word - SUBLIME
This is an exquisite fragrance - polished, smooth, rich, opulent, elegant and simply divine. Can't believe I only discovered it this year! It is so well blended, I can't single out specific notes. If I had to describe it I'd say it's a fruity, rosy powder bomb.
Longevity is astounding! This is a top quality fragrance for a ridiculous price!

Tigi

If I didn't know better when I sprayed this on, I would have sworn on a stack of Bibles that the fragrance I'm wearing is the erstwhile Sun Moon Stars by Karl Lagerfeld (from all those many eons ago).

From initial application all the way to the dry down, to my nose and on my skin, Diamonds & Rubies is an olfactory dead-ringer for SMS. I find the sillage and longevity comparable to SMS as well.

Fragrance: 10/10
Longevity: 6/10
Sillage: 6/10

Edit: Diamonds & Rubies is a tiny, tiny shade spicier in the opening; that's the only difference my nose can discern. I am seriously considering as the one and only possible replacement/ doppleganger for f SMS since that's been discontinued and D&R is a (knock on wood!) readily-available, affordable dead-ringer.

Yesterday I purchased 100 ml of Eau de Toilette for a shade under £8 from The Perfume Shop in the UK, so its still available. Weirdly when I asked for it the sales assistant had to get it from under the counter, as if it were some sort of illicit product.
I absolutely loved the opening - a whole bouquet of red roses. In truth I didn’t get much else (its obviously me), no peach, no anything else, the roses were very ‘in your face’. Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining, I had a big grin of my face because I absolutely loved the smell and was very comfortable with it - at home. Going out with it on was a different matter. The projection, seemed to me, as though I was trusting a bunch of roses under every one's nose as I passed them. If I were younger I probably wouldn’t have minded so much (you're rebellious when you’re young, and want to make a statement), but as an old timer, I’ll admit I was uneasy. Maybe I put a bit too much on.
The opening note lasted several hours, slowly but linearly transforming in to a creamy powdery base, too milky and creamy for me - I like a ‘dry’ powder, lots of benzoin. Unfortunately I didn’t get it or the musk that I, personally, prefer. Longevity was very good - a good 9 hours.
Stunning value for money.

Decodawn

Hello from Deco Dawn this is my review of Elizabeth Taylor Diamonds and Rubies. Following the excellent reviews on here I blind bought D & R. I am delighted the opening is a huge explosion of carnations and Rose. I wasn't too sure to start with if this was going to be a scrubber. But within half an hour the heart and base had developed into an extraordinary fragrance very warm, sensual and full of Eastern promise. I love the Packaging in a Red Box and the 'White Diamonds' bottle design with diamond cuff around the bottom of the lid. The quality of the ingredients the longevity and silage is very good indeed and for the price quite incredible as this fragrance smells very expensive. Guerlain Nahema is almost identical and retails at over £100 quid in the UK. Elizabeth Taylor fragrances are amazing value for money. Every woman of a certain age, I am 50 but very young at heart should own this fragrance or buy it as a gift. An ideal Christmas present due to the colour of the packaging but perfect all year round. Try it you will love it.

How can this be £10 for 100ml? The world has gone mad!

This is absolutely gorgeous! Its the smell of old Hollywood. Rose, spice, peach and the loveliest powder. A divine combination.

I feel like I should be wearing a ball gown and jewels when I spritz this on. The name is just perfect and doesn't feel cynical. Perhaps the original celebrity scents set the bar higher?

Just beautiful, anyway. And great sillage, wonderful longevity to boot.

Thrilled to have discovered this.

Becw08

Well...all I can say is THANK YOU to the lovely posters who recommended this as similar to sun moon stars!
It is indeed very similar - perhaps not that surprising as they are both by the great Sophia grosjman - buy I would never have even tried this if I hadn't seen it recommended on here.
It's gorgeous...deep and subtle at the same time.
And such a pretty bottle!
For £10 for 100mls on amazon...whats not to like!!

Nuitdenoel

So, I have had about a week with D&R, and it is firmly in the "like" category. It is a good perfume, certainly smells like I spent more than I did, and it dries down to this lovely, peachy, powdery rose. The issue comes with the opening for me. It has to be the pepper interacting with either another note or my skin chemistry, but it takes a good 15 minutes for that menthol/eucalyptus note to go away. To be fair, though, no one else seems to smell it on me, so it may actually literally be just my brain confusing what my nose is smelling.

All in all, I am pleased I got it and I will certainly wear it. D&R is a great afternoon perfume to spray on before you leave for town. The projection stays within an inch or two of the skin and I get about 4 hours of longevity before it dies away completely. If I was in love with this, I would definitely order any lotion to layer with it and help it hold.

Pretty good buy for the price.

UPDATE: I am keeping the above review but wanted to add that the longer I have had with this, the more I have grown to love it. It still doesn't scream "roses" to me but it is a beautiful, comforting scent. I wear it out but I also love it for bed time. The moral of the story: never be too quick to judge a perfume. Officially moving it to LOVE after having had it for almost 2 months.

UPDATE 6/11/17: I sprayed this on at 09 this morning. It is now 1700. (9am and 5 pm). Washed my hands numerous times, been outside down and the barn with my goats, etc. and it is still projecting about 2 inches from my skin. Getting lovely wisps of warm, spiced rose very now and then when I'm not sniffing my arms, too.

Nuitdenoel

I think I am going to need to spend more time with this. I blind bought it because I typically love Sophia Grosjman's perfumes -- hello, Tresor! -- but so far, I like this but it is not an enthusiastic like. It opens with a menthol/eucalyptus note on my skin. I smell like I've rubbed down in Ben Gay (a topical pain relief ointment in the US). I will spend a few more days with it and update.

TsarinaM

I just blind bought this and I love it. It is creamy, soft, and feminine floral with a true ruby gemstone feeling in the scent- and it is extremely well blended with the elements. Yay!

God Bless!

kateridelisle

Very similar to more expensive fragrances like Guerlain Nahema but without paying the hefty price. This is a very beautiful powdery dusty, woodsy rose with a hint of creamy peaches, jasmine and ylang-ylang and subtle spice. It does justice to the retro versions of fragrance of old Hollywood glamour, very Rita Hayworth, something I would expect a gorgeous red hair beauty to wear. If you're looking for some retro glam, this is it! I find this to be the best of the Elizabeth Taylor fragrances in creating a glamorous, luxurious fragrance.

Konga5000

Good but NOT as good as Diamonds and Emeralds. A giant bottle for $14.99 ? Who's complaining ?

socorrosouza

Peach is a powdery fruit, but on my skin this is not at all powdery like Fancy Love , all peachy talc (I love powdery scents but not soapy). It has a spicy flavour too, but not that spicy too, like Gucci Guilty, Obsession, Coco. If you don't like spices, as must be the case since D&R is mild, please don't buy any spicy perfume and keep smelling D&R to see if you can grow to love spicy scents.Because if we keep wearing the same kind of perfumes one day we won't be able to even smell them.We have to evolve our tastes, adding and expanding our horizons.

vanillaamber

I bought the smaller size for $8 on Amazon, as a blind buy. I like White Diamonds parfum, not the EDT, and decided to try this and Violet Eyes. I'm not sure how I feel about this one yet. It's definitely the way it is described-warm spicy, and I get a fruity/peachy scent, along with a lot of powder. I don't like this as much as White Diamonds parfum. I like Violet Eyes better too, it doesn't have the powdery scent. I can see how others like this, though. I would like it if it weren't so powdery on me, and the spicy part is a little too strong for me. I wish the peach and fruit were stronger.

HoneyPamela

I bought Diamonds and Rubies for an unbelievable $12 on Amazon because of the reviews here it is similar to Nahema. I would say it is close but not quite the same. Nahema is amazing but so is Diamonds and Rubies -- my fav Liz Taylor fragrance. Having worn both White Diamonds and Black Pearls in the 90s, I prefer D&R because it has a wonderful powdery dry down the other two do not.

One reviewer here, Carolyn said "I can't imagine anyone wanting to wear this (D&R) without being happy." I think this perfume stands the test of time because it reminds many of something else.

D&R reminds me the most of Yves Saint Laurent Paris, another rose perfume by Sophia Grojsman. When I wore Paris for a brief period in the 90s, it did make me feel happy. I consider Paris to be a very feminine, grown up perfume.

If I had less than $20 to spend on a signature fragrance, Diamonds and Rubies would be my choice. If you like rose -- and this is not old-lady rose -- you won't be disappointed. And the sweet is not candy sweet, just the right balance. Wish I had discovered D&R sooner...

sophiesnose

I seem to like a lot of scents by Sophia Grojsman. Until I joined Fragrantica I didn't even know what a nose was let alone know that I had so many by the same nose. There is this familiarity to her scents a typical Sophia Grojsman note that can be found in Exclamation, Sun Moon Stars, Tresor, and this one too. You know it as soon as you smell it. For years I longed to find another bottle of Sun Moon Stars to take me back to my high school days. Then I smelled this one and thought, close enough. I'm sure side by side I could pick out the differences but with a 20 year gap (seriously, how it that possible?) these smell close enough to me! Diamonds and Rubies is a lovely fragrance with a fabulous price tag. Perfume is the closest thing to a time machine as I'm ever going to get and this one took me back to 1995. If you don't like her other stuff you won't like this either. But if she's one of your favourite noses, give it a go you won't be disappointed.

BlondeMoments

D&R has become my signature. I have tried many other frags, more expensive ones..and always come back to this.
Ripe peach and big red rose..mild spices and powder..and finally vanilla. sweet but not candy..feminine but not girly..a very womanly scent. I bought the far more expensive and harder to find eau de perfume..thinking it would be even more long lasting or stronger. It isnt..but what it is ..is different. the eau de perfume is less sweet and much more strongly fresh spices start to finish. I much prefer the edt..bought 2 more bottles on ebay for $13 each. This and ET entire line has been discontinued, but is still cheap and plentiful right now. Black pearls is nice..but I have to say..less sweet and sometimes a bit gaudy to my nose..comparatively. Too me, D&R is mildly gourmand. and the price allows me to smell wonderful every day.

VioletDream2

This is sophisticated! Luscious peach, sweet powdery rose heaven! With a soft powdery spiciness. Good projection on me and last well for the price. My boyfriend likes this too!

cutsie587

This perfume smells so good on the skin!!! The main dominant note is rose, and it is mellowed out with the peach, almond, and spices. The amber gives it a soft dry down. It almost reminds a little of Fancy Love by Jessica Simpson. Another success with ET perfume! This lady knew what she was doing!

MLK

I saw this for $15 AU ( 100ml) at the local pharmacy so I picked it up as a blind buy (there was no tester available), I have to say I do not regret my decision. It is a lovely rose with some fruitiness and then vanilla in the dry down. It is somewhat similar to Nahema but I would not say it's a cheaper version of Nahema. Diamonds and rubies stands on its own and there will never be a substitute for the wonderful Nahema for me. I'm glad to have this fragrance in my collection at such an amazing cheap price.... it does last for hours on my skin and the dry down is a very nice fruity rose.

socorrosouza

Diamond and Rubies on my skin is the best of Elizabeth taylor's perfumes. Gardenia is also memorable a green floral specially for summer and spring, light, carefree.

socorrosouza

For me , this is the best of Elizabeth Taylor's fragrances, a sweet/spiced combo of peach and rose, delicious, very very sexy and sophisticated. One of Sophia Grojsman's better creations. Unfortunately, in this instant gratification era people think it is an "old lady" scent (the kiss of death) instead of trying to understand the perfume, opening their perfumistic horizons. I love gourmands (Fantasy, Rocker Femme, Hidden Fantasy), but I also love green , spicy , floral, woody scents. Best be confronted with something different and trying to work out than be subjected to the same kind perfume over and over and over.

danielle.reeves

Sorry to post once again..but I find this has been discontinued. Figures. well it's cheap enough..stock up ladies! lol

danielle.reeves

Oh yes. if you like peach and rose..this is better and cheaper than Tresor..and without the cigarette accord.

danielle.reeves

I just received it in the mail, and I really do like it.
My first and only other ET frag is black pearls..which kind of had to grow on me..but I am liking it.
BP sillage and longevity may be a bit stronger..but D&R is sweeter..I think a prettier scent.

carolyn.parker

This perfume is so heartbreakingly beautiful

It's hard for me to choose a single Elizabeth Taylor perfume that best personifies her as a woman. Each of the perfumes I own in the Liz Taylor line capture different sides of her, different moods, almost like each perfume was made for a different role she had not only in Hollywood movies but in her actual life.

Passion, her debut fragrance (1987) is Liz Taylor as Cleopatra, in full make up and costumes, atop that giant Sphynx as she enters Rome in triumph.

White Diamonds (1991) is Liz Taylor dressed from head to toe in diamond jewelry, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, her voluptuous figure draped in a white sequin robe as she walks up to a platform to receive an Oscar or Achievement Award. Glamour & Luxury. For a film role it would match up with her role as Maggie the Cat in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.

Black Pearls (1995) is saucy Liz who rode motorcycles with guys to raise money for charity but also loved motorcycles, was still working in movies like The Flintstones Movie & These Old Broads, appearing on sitcoms like The Nanny; having a ball and one last romance with construction worker Larry Fortensky. She wore whatever the hell she liked, whether it was jeans and a black leather jacket (leather goes with Black Pearls perfume), or lovely evening gowns with daintier jewelry. Elegant but spicy & more devil may care.

Diamonds & Rubies (1993) is a young romantic newly wed Elizabeth Taylor, although I feel the same way about Violet Eyes, her final fragrance. She has just married actor Michael Wilding & has given birth for the first time. She is not matronly but motherly, sweet, soft, loving, nurturing, and at peace, but still sexy as hell. If this fragrance matches up with one of her movie roles it would be her role in GIANT opposite James Dean & Rock Hudson, or the heroine in A Place In The Sun opposite Montgomery Clift. It might also match up with her role as the Southern belle Susannah in Rain Tree County. Like Elizabeth Taylor herself, this is a beautiful perfume. It is also complex and formulated with love & attention to detail by none other than the mistress of all perfumes the Great Sophia Grojsman.

Diamonds & Rubies opens with a red rose, but not just a plain old red rose, nor even a "old lady red rose". This is a spiced up, glamorous, sexy, amorous rose. This is a velvet rose, lush, luxurious and expensive smelling. The rose is a romantic note in perfume but one never feels like it's a big old bouquet of red roses. It's more like catching whiffs of the bloom of a rose or it's scented petals, lacking in the citrusy greenness of the bushes and stems. This is not very fresh as it opens because it does tend to turn powdery almost immediately. I would say that it has a balance of feminine charm and sweetness and spicy adult boldness. That's what I get as a theme in most if not all Elizabeth Taylor fragrances. They are both sweet, soft, feminine, delicate but strong and powerful, provocative. Whether by incident or design, all the perfumes in her line are representative of her emotions & complex personality. This is one beautiful homage to the red rose by Sophia Grojsman. I'd never heard that Liz Taylor was fond of roses but most women I know would never reject a bouquet of red roses so why would one reject this red rose perfume?

The red rose aside, this is also a sweet peach perfume, almost like a Georgia peach, Southern, Scarlett O'Hara, a beautiful peach fruit that smells of the sweet fuzz and a bit boozy. Peach fruit cocktail. Even with this fruit & alcohol note, it's not tropical or festive like Black Pearls. It's more along the lines of the soft sweet but heightened femininity of such perfumes as Chloe Narcisse. In fact I would make the argument (and y'all can debate this on the Forum Chats) that this might have a similar build as Chloe Narcisse. Voila some of the same notes are shared by both perfumes: rose, peach fruit, alcohol, spices, amber, benzoin, sandalwood, cedar, vanilla. Not quite an Oriental in the style of Narcisse but definitely fruity floral, sweet and powdery. Diamonds & Rubies dries down to powder. But it also has detectable notes of benzoin, sandalwood, amber & cedar, not to mention creamy good vanilla.

Oh, and lets talk about the florals!

What florals!

Rose, lily, heliotrope, orchid, jasmine, lily of the valley, ylang ylang, jasmine & lilac. So yes it's quite flowery and if you're used to the different textures of floral fragrances, this one comes off as more powdery sweet floral. It's still one gorgeous rose to me even with all the other floral notes. I would say that in second place to the rose the ylang ylang (which smells of banana) and the soapy white lilies are what I get most. This is a clean, sweet and elegant floral perfume to wear with a DRESS, on a romantic cruise, romantic dinner date, with your husband because this does smell of a comfortably and happily married lady. When dry this is vanilla and cedar wood on me. Very nice.

My husband loved this perfume on me. He always said that I smelled so good like roses and peaches (that's as far as his nose could smell anyways). He would kiss me and hold me tight while we danced to the music of vinyl LPs he kept for years at our Charleston home & later Mount Pleasant in South Carolina. This is a romantic very gorgeous happy perfume. I can't imagine anyone wanting to wear this without being happy. It has a contented air, and it's so dreamy and romantic. It makes a really beautiful and thoughtful Valentines Day gift or Christmas gift. In fact I would say that it does smell of Christmas (maybe the almond note) not quite as gourmand as today's gourmands, but it is very delicious with peach & vanilla, so in a sense it does have something of a gourmand in it. Delicious and warm, spicy but sweet, floral and powdery with a glow, a ruby in the middle or heart of a diamond stone pendant, plunging into a bosom, which smells of Diamond and Rubies by Elizabeth Taylor.

mabelcruet

For a few weeks now now I've been lusting over the Guerlain counter because they have a tester bottle of Nahema on display and I love it but can't quite justify the cost, so when I read on here that Diamonds and Rubies shared similar notes, it was a no-brainer. Trouble is, nobody near me stocked this so I bought blind online. Oh my goodness! What a gorgeous scent. The only one of Elizabeth Taylor's fragrances that I tried before was White Diamonds and I found that quite harsh, but Diamonds and Rubies is very different. This is rich, full on, it has texture, it smells like velvet feels.I'm no good at individual notes, but the rose is up there, a big beautiful voluptuous rose with warmth underneath. The image this conjures up in my mind is a traditional country house Christmas. A peat fire, candlelight, mulled wine, spice from pomanders of cloves and cinnamon, champagne and hot whiskey. This is simply sumptuous and grown-up luxury. It dries down quite powdery on me, which I love, although the baby powder and slightly vanilla final notes are a bit at odds with the opening salvo! But a gorgeous blind buy, definitely recommended.

aspirina

Beautiful powerhouse! this is gorgeous! spiced peaches with cream and roses! It definitely reminds me of other creations of Sophia Grossman: Eternity, and sun moon stars. I also find similarities with the original Burberry and with Casmir. Very nice scent, reomantic, elegant, just amazing!

socorrosouza

On me sillage and longevity are moderate, perhaps I am partially anosmic to it, I spray 5 times to smell it. But what a gorgeous aroma !!!!!!! Boozy very spiced peaches , sweet but not overwhelmingly so, sophisticated, sexy, glamorous, refined, a great work by Sophia Grojsman. Does remind me a bit of Spellbound, another masterpiece by Grojsman in its subtle spiceness and overall sexyness but Spellbound is a true masterpiece and Rubies is a great perfume but not on a masterpiece level. Pity Sophia and ET did not had more collaborations, since they have the same larger than life quality. To all that complain of the sameness of current scents, this is IT !!!!!!!

2BetterJuice

Okay, so today for the first time I'm wearing ET D&R to work. As I got on the elevator to go up to my floor a nicely suited older gentleman got on the elevator with me. He looked at me, smiled...and promptly broke out into a raging coughing fit.

Somehow I couldn't help but take that personally.

According to a couple of reviews here, D&R has this kind of boozy peaches aura to it. Well, that's what I felt like smelling like today...boozy peaches! Instead, I'm giving off this heavy eau de room freshener vibe.

I'm not giving up on Ms Taylor's fragrances. (Far from it, especially since you can get them at a price point that I love.)

The next time I wear D&R I'll try layering it with a sweeter scent and for the sake of those around me, I won't go full throttle on the application.

This one is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Siv7Stars

Kind of similar but by no means a dupe for Tentations. Tentations is just a little less 'granny' or old-fashioned. But this is very nice, very strong too! You can't really go wrong as this is so very much cheaper. It's sort of creamier and rosier, thanks to the vanilla I think (it's not a sexy vanilla though, sophisticated yes but not sexy, sorry) plus lily of the valley, the latter note being why it smells more old-fashioned. Warm, mild spice. Some have described this as sweet, and it sort of is but really not modern sugar sweet. I apologise for emphasising old in this review, but you all know what I mean, it's a way of describing frags that many understand, politics aside.

pablOSO

Reminds me of Sun , Moon and Stars by Lagerfeld , only this one is not so sweet.

florina_81bobo

Perfect for women after 30 , it reminds me of the 90's, back in highschool, of my summer holidays. red roses and peaches, I feel also the lilac and some orchid, a bit heavy (but perfect for me) strong and long lasting...

5.05.2017
I come again with my latest experience wearing this perfume, these days. The first spritz is so strong, harsh, but after 30 minutes it settles down, and I really love the powdery note, it is like powdery peaches and roses, like the powder that women wore when I was 16 (a long time ago)...
So I think it is compatible with my chemistry, and long lasting and a good potency for an Eau de toilete, and it attracts most men. nowdays I got compliments from different people, mostly men. I was wearing it in the evening for some nights out, and some of my friends dared to say that is "ä perfume for those nights, when you want to make a man go crazy..."

lucia.lawson

Elizabeth Taylor's Fragrant Jewel collection followed the success of White Diamonds. There's no bigger fan than White Diamonds than I am so I was curious as to how the other scents in this line would be like. Diamonds and Rubies tops all of them. This is an absolutely beautiful beautiful perfume. Everything you've heard about this fragrance is true. It's a Sophia Grojsman and that gal can certainly make a perfume. This smells like sweet peaches, roses, spices, powder, and amber. The first whiff is something like a delicious but light peach and an almond. The scent develops into florals of red roses, yellow ylang, white jasmine, purple lilac, heliotrope, orchid and lily of the valley. The peach scent is always in the background and then mingles with vanilla and powder. This is a sweet powdery feminine womanly scent. Romantic, glamorous, elegant, it's like White Diamonds but less intense and sweeter. I can never tire of this fragrance. My last husband loved it on me so much he always asked me if I was going to wear that Ruby perfume again. I usually wore it to romantic dinners and trans Atlantic cruises. A beautiful rose by a beautiful rose of Hollywood Liz Taylor.

juniemoon

I have had this for awhile but just getting around to reviewing it now. I really can't add much to what has already been said. I find this gem, ha, best for every season except the warmest of summer days. I love every waft of it up to my nose from my chest, beautiful!

If actual rubies had a scent, this definitely would be it, captured to perfection; if someone who was blind and had never seen the gorgeous precious ruby stone, they would "see" it in their mind by smelling this!

nvenus

Too, too strong/heavy...
Beautiful bottle.

Bottle: 8/10
Edt: 2.6/10

Miss Carol

FINALLY, FINALLY I Found her! Why did she have to be the last of the Liz Taylor scents I tried not to mention all the other Fabs.
Roses and warm peaches is all I'm catching at the moment, but they are all I need to satisfy my long search for HER! I'm still waiting for the dry down but I'll be back later. Right now I am just so enjoying this. I've got to get me more bottles of this, I see me getting VERY carried away and hoarding at least 30 more bottles of this delicious and romantic perfume. Diamonds and Rubies how I love you. Your Roses, Peaches and Spices take me to heaven.

Katty M

Blind buy for me.Great perfume;long lasting ;moderate sillage. It reminds me a lot of Trésor by Lancôme ;with a powerful sent of rose at the end :).

Ferminadaza

I believe that this is Sophie Grojsman's earliest attempt of the YSL Parisienne composition, all of the similarities are there.

It is most certainly a derivative of her previous 1982 composition for YSL, the classic Paris.

Yes, the opening notes of Diamonds & Rubies are a bit different, but it dries down to Parisienne.

The average bottle of D&R is around $10-15.

Parisienne is around $50+

Same nose/perfumer...same overall scent and drydown.

Different initial top notes.

The choice is yours.

phoebe25

A big, traditionally 'perfume-y' rose and peach scent. Not bad. n general with ET fragrances you have to like aldehydes and / or full-bodied florals / very rich perfumes. It has a thick, multi floral feel.

The overwhelming sense is that of a big, rosy, powerhouse floral. I can only wear this decanted and dabbed; spraying it is just too much. It's very pleasant, when used with discretion.

It has very longevity. On me it lasts about 8-10 hours.

Dazzlindessie

An instant heavenly hit of ripe peaches, and blooming roses! I feared an obliteration of my senses from an overuling shroud of rose but I have NEVER found an opening of two notes that are as perfectly balanced.....it is,in the words of Goldilocks "Just Right".

In this I get the mingle of my two faves joining in with this alluring little symphony, jasmine and ylang-ylang.

Throw some spices in,smooth it with sandalwood and this takes me on a sublime journey beyond olfactory heaven!

I am a hopeless romantic who believes in love at first sight and now I believe in the enrapture of love at first sniff :-)

clgiles888

I kept reading roses and peaches, roses and peaches, sounds good, right? Well where the hell are they? I wanted to love this, tried it twice and determined it is a scrubber for me. I smell like i rubbed powder scented baby oil on me and then dumped unsweetened cocoa powder on top of that. Asphyxiating me. This one needs a restraining order, sorry.

Angela Agiannidou

Being of a certain age I thought of giving this a try. So, armed with me zimmerframe (you never know when the auld leggs will give way...) i made it to the nearest perfume shop. There i was told by the assistant that they only had sugary fruitilicious perfumes for the younger demographic and people my age should go on the Internet. Thanking her(excellent customer skills), I made it to the nearest Starbucks (just in time as the auld back started aching...)
There grappling with the Internet i just managed to order a bottle of this juice.
What a beauty! Me auld nostrils filled with the deliciousness of rosy spiced peach, creamed with almond and vanilla, enveloped in resins and cedar!!!!! Oh, my giddy aunt!! CLASSIC! Brought to mind when me and me auld man were courting, deep, smooth, sensational, long lasting and big in sillage.
Aye, they don't make them like this anymore..Jim,me auld man would be thrilled!! Dries down to a beautiful floral, soft and ethereal. Them youngsters don't know what they are missing! Me best fume!!!!

geekgoddess

This is a great drugstore frag, and proves that it *is* still possible to make cheap perfume without it ever smelling like noxious chemicals or gross fake fruit flavors. I wish more companies would make perfume like this: good, cheap, not trying too hard to be young or sexy-- especially since it seems like so many people's idea of "young and sexy" is actually "cheap, ditzy and smelling like a candy factory". I bought the largest bottle available because anything this good is bound to be reformulated sooner or later.

The peach note is really noticeable in this at the beginning, and it smells ripe, juicy and so much like real peach. The spice is a bit indistinct on me, but maybe that's just body chemistry. It smells nice, but I can't tell what spice it's supposed to be. Probably cinnamon, maybe nutmeg, and sometimes I smell a faint hint of something vaguely like eucalyptis. The almond note is noticeable, and seems more milky than powdery. When considered as more than the sum of its parts, this perfume is pretty classy for a drugstore frag, though.

This doesn't make me think of any age range, but if you think making any attempt at sophistication is only for the elderly, then yes, this may seem "old lady" to you.

Gigi The Fashionista

Oh Liz Taylor come back to us. This fragrance makes me want to cry. It makes me think of her, of how beautiful she was not only on the outside but on the inside. Her deeds spoke of a simple woman with a heart big enough to love all those who knew her. She was giving, hard working and womanly to her bones. This scent embodies Liz in an absolutely glamorous and classy way. The rose is the dominant note here as it seems to be the "Rubies" that the fragrance moniker describes. These are lush red velvety roses layered with almonds, vanilla and orchids. The heliotrope is also standing out and I adore heliotrope. In fact it's my favorite flower. I have never come across a scent that so perfectly harmonizes rose orchid and heliotrope my 3 favorite flowers. Sophia Grosjman made this fragrance and she must have loved roses orchids and heliotrope because I also smelled it on her Sun Moon Stars for Karl Lagerfield. This is a fragrance of luxury and elegance, very romantic. I could wear this out on dates and ladies if you're married spritz this on Valentines Day. This is so beautiful. The sandalwood and musk s probably giving everything that perfect strength and longevity and absolute class. I could bathe in this fragrance and I do. This is one of those perfumes I don't mind dousing myself with. I would have to say that this is Liz Taylor's most beautiful fragrance fond as I am of Passion. When I put this on for the first time I was playing Victor Young's Theme From A Place In The Sun which was the film Liz Taylor did with Montgomery Clift. It's almost a boudoir fragrance: I see Liz putting on this perfume at a dresser table with vanity mirror and she goes out for the night in something red, a lady in red. And for anyone calling this fragrance old lady you have no idea what you're talking about. There is no such thing. This is a perfume. We love you Liz Taylor and we wear your fragrances because we want to bring you with us everywhere we go.

Lyndale

Yep, this is truly beautiful, another masterpiece by Sophia Grojsman. It has been compared with Paloma Picasso Tentations and there are definitely similarities. While the two aren't quite dupes, they are close sisters. The peach note in this, while still warm and spicy, is fresher and brighter. Where the sweetness in Tentations is that of peaches preserved in alcohol, the sweetness here is more of a peach and rose jam.
In the dry down, it becomes a smooth, warm vanilla and almond caress, with hints of sandalwood and benzoin "wafting" around it. (It reminds me of sitting by a real fire, eating a rice pudding dish flavoured with vanilla and almonds).

It's now 10 hours since I applied this (yes, TEN) and I still have the wonderful, rich, creaminess on my skin.

Tiwalii

This! THIS! This is simply a divine spicy peach and rose.

I've never really cared for peach in perfumes before I smelled this. This is the scent that made me understand the peach note, and finally see how utterly gorgeous it can be in a composition.

It's a juicy sweet, almost syrupy, sunny, spicy warm and smooth perfume, with a deep and demure rose note, that combines youthfulness (that playful peach) and sophistication in an excellent way.

It also contains almond wood, which gives the perfume a creamy woody quality that is to die for.

Sillage is strong at first, but on me it dries down to a moderate. Longevity is wonderful. About 8-10 hours on my skin.

I love this perfume! I wish I could fill a pool with it, dive in and bathe in the stuff for hours. lol
