This is a beautiful, clean, fresh and sweet unisex scent, in which I mainly smell rose and honey. It lasts all day on clothes. When you don't know what to spray, but you want to keep it classy, elegant and a bit elevated, this always does the trick. It smells simple and linear, but also luxurious. One of the best rose scents out there and it's a bit unique as well because it's an airy and fresh rose rather than a very sweet jammy rose that most fragrances seem to be going for. 9/10

I’ve had this fragrance for a few years but it has been sitting in the back of my closet practically since I bought it. I sold off most of my collection last year, however I was compelled to keep Ambre Nuit.

As my collection is smaller now I really have the opportunity to appreciate this excellent fragrance, which otherwise gets somewhat overlooked these days. Over the past month I’ve really enjoyed having this in my weekly rotation and I’m absolutely kicking myself for not returning to this sooner.

Ambre Nuit is light, airy, clean, sensual and cosy. It opens bright, fresh & clean; however it slightly sweetens up with some rose & salty-amber. The rose in here is slightly green. The name Ambre Nuit alludes to this being a night time fragrance, but it’s a lot more versatile than that. I try to wear my ‘special’ fragrances more often these days, so I’ve been wearing this one to the office.

Ambre Nuit is often compared to 40 Knots. I’ve owned 40 Knots previously and I’m considering a new bottle for Summer. Whilst both frags share similarities, the wearing experience is very different. Ambre Nuit is light & airy, I find it to be quite easy-going. 40 Knots is more dense, I find that it takes awhile for it to settle on the skin. Once it settles down it is very nice.

Dylanduke

As others have said - calm, soothing, mature, refined and classy. It gives off an air of familiarity and thoughts of home for me.

Am considering buying a full bottle to use as my signature for the office.

Only downside is the price.

lmnsvgz

This is a very airy, ambery, rose fragrance - it is a good blend and nothing smells too strong. Fairly unisex but I am not very impressed by it. It smells like warm roses.

ant615

I’m not overly excited about the way this smells but it does give me compliments when a give someone a handshake or a hug so I guess it still “works”.

Mizmonsta

when they say grown and sexy scent, this is it. such a beautiful classic smelling scent without smelling old, which is a very important distinction. its like the perfect blend of floral and amber without feeling heavy. perfect for dates, weddings, formal meetings imo. maybe not shorts and a tee casual but very easy to wear casually. spring/fall seems optimal timing. not a beastmode scent so its perfect for the times you dont wanna run the risk of being offensive, but still wanna smell phenomanal. Really top tier scent. i like to layer with the fenty floral body butter or an unscented lubriderm lotion on warmer days

Zegnaa94

My favourite perfume. Such an elegant, sexy and classic date night perfume.
I love it !

@theemasquerade

If I'm buying something from Diors prive line then om only ordering straight from Dior, that's just me.

It shouldn't be a big difference with old and new batches, I would say it's barely noticeable. Maybe the bottle wasn't stored properly or it's fake.

theemasquerade

I skin-tested Ambre Nuit and Tobacolor in a Dior store last week in Germany. I had a hard time making up my mind; both magnificent fragrances. Where the drydown of Tobacolor went south for me (too much of a stale cigar bar scent the next day), Ambre Nuit went into ecstasy territory after 3 hours. This is not a cheap fragrance, so I opted for a small decant from an reputable online service before pulling the trigger on a full bottle. Now, I'm confused. After several wears, I still love this Ambre Nuit from the decant; but it's for sure different. Compared to the Dior store; this decant is more linear and has a strong dose of cinnamon & spice throughout not listed in the notes. Still a wonderfully muted rose on a bed of delectable, upscale amber.

Is it possible this is a prior formulation? Assuming the Dior storefront is selling the most current product; specifically in the in-store testers. Is this something that would occur from maceration?

All said, this is still a solid 9/10. I'm not convinced it's for me (40+ man living in Florida); perhaps I would rather smell it on a woman. I can't tell...and I hate that I can't make up my mind on treating myself to a bottle.

AMH19

I just discovered this one and fell in love. This is a gorgeous signature scent for those who love simplicity. The amber pairs with the rose for a scent that is strong and inviting, but not over the top or offensive.

One of my favorites in the collection.

Jackcyummyfood

Smells perfect. Quiet, not overly synthetic or sharp. Just very calm, a little sweet, and some floral nuances. I blind bought this and I think everyone reading this should too.

IrinaRen

This is a beautiful fragrance! In my opinion you can wear it day and night very universal. I feel like it’s a nice signature scent as well. Very nice amber - warm, sophisticated, not headache inducing not too sweet but very comforting at the same time. True unisex ! I definitely see the resemblance with Xerjoff 40 knots, the dry down is almost identical !

mo choudhury

@snifflord ....I'm talking about the limited edition of Ambre Nuit.
not the new release (New Look).
scroll to the end of the reminds me list and you'll see it. (Ambre Nuit New Look limited edition). it's the last one on the list.
it's a 2022 release and the notes are different.
Bergamot, Grapefruit, Turkish Rose, Pink Pepper, Amber, Guaiac Wood, Patchouli and Cedar.

Snifflord

@mo choudhury
Very different scents, Ambre Nuit and New Look.
Ambre Nuit is a very classy and sophisticated smell...quite formal and seductive.

New Look smells EXACTLY like Avignon...a slightly salty incense. There is no amber to speak of
and even if there is it is either very little of just a hint of ambergris. New Look is a waste of money, IMO.

mo choudhury

does anybody know if there's any difference between this one and the new look edition, as the both have different notes?

Esna

Dark rich sweet amber; old money sexy. Unisex.

FragheadMo

Ambre nuit has always been a love for me and will always be. It opens up with citruses, pink pepper and rose with undertones of ambergris and woods till the drydown. It's one of the most beautiful drydowns i've smelled. I can feel the perfume alive and breathing on my skin. It's very rich and the ingredients are of excellent quality. A masterpiece.

shoosie

This fragrance smells so warm and comforting! Its very ambery, and while I do get hints of rose, its very faint. Its not saccharine sweet, but really addicting from the notes of spice and incense. Its a little too masculine for me, but the longevity is really good since I sprayed it in the morning and could still smell it on my skin at night. It reminds me of reading in a vintage library, kind of like The Secret History. Its not for me but if I smelled it on someone else I would actually just throw myself in their arms.

LuaLat

Opulent. Elegant. Classy. Fresh rose on top of a warm sweet amber, smooth powdery musk and a hint of wood. A romantic, gentle and unique masterpiece that is extremely well blended for incredible smoothness and quality. Natural ingredients result in an aroma that smells natural and that is not synthetic or sharp. Great autumn fragrance that is good for date nights or special occasions. Romantic and autumn focused scent DNA. Very well constructed fragrance that is the result of extremely clever, skill-full perfumery creating a simple yet addictive fragrance. Classic French perfumery with a modern twist.

Performance

8 hours on skin
12 hours on clothes
2ft projection
Silage lingers in the air well without being annoying

Projection of this fragrance is prominent but not too loud which makes it a more pleasant fragrance as it is gentle on your nose and does not cause fatigue and is not offensive; this makes it more elegant and smooth.

If you want a unique, high quality masterpiece that is great for date nights and autumn wear this is a great one to add to your collection.

One of the best out there

If a warm blanket was a scent, this would be it. I don’t get rose but on my skin it smells like cosy cinnamon-y wood with amber. It’s the signature scent I’ve been looking for for over a decade, I think it finally found me. My skin hold scent well so I get about 12+ hours, the silage is close, but exactly what I need for an everyday scent. An absolute love!

lessthanzero

Sort of the "type-species" for the Dior Privée line. All of the DNA of the line is visible in this perfume.

Very formal, but unpretentious and not "loud." Feels recognizably French - aloof and elegant. At the same time, there is a very "American" sleekness, sweetness, and brazen sexiness about it.

Peppery, floral, warm spicy, slightly salty and ozonic, woody, mineralic, make-up powdery, honeyed. It feels aldehydic, in the way that cinnamon powder in the air tickles your nose. The primary flavor and fragrance compound of cinnamon is of course cinnamaldehyde... I think that 90% of folks wouldn't be able to identify the floral components here as "rose" per se.

Much more feminine than masculine to me. A very nice blend of synthetic and natural materials. Not for me.

Hesssa21

Warm, light, sweet, comforting. Pretty linear so good for layering. Safe blind buy if you like amber.

A13xandra

Sexy vampire. That’s what I think of when I wear this fragrance. It’s a cold weather perfume, very musky, I get a bit of a church vibe. I ordered the 250ml I liked it so much. The sweet amber mixed with airy rose is a beautifully comforting accord. Definitely unisex.

Enrium

Ambre Nuit is one of the many rose-centred scents from Dior Privé, this time paired with a sweet amber accord. Like others from this line, it's composition isn't anything unusual, but is beautifully done. It is surprisingly subtle, considering its name, but it is a high-quality, muted amber scent for everyday wear. The rose isn't the focal point here, but is the perfect accompaniment to the amber that permeates this scent.

The sweet amber accord is present from initial spray, followed by light, sheer rose. It is lightly spiced, warm and sweet. I get some dry vanilla, adding sweetness to the balsamic amber accord. AN is very subtle initially, but becomes more intense as it develops.

The rose becomes jammier as it develops, marrying beautifully with the sweet amber accord. There is a slightly sticky honeyed quality to this scent here, but it is nicely measured - it isn't too sweet; it certainly isn't syrupy or cloying. I get cinnamon as it develops, perhaps nutmeg too.

The amber accord has subtle animalic facets that come to the fore as it develops further, with some saltiness following the sweetness of the opening. The amber accord is more resinous at its later stages. It fades to a sweet, musky skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is a unisex cold weather scent for everyday use.

Multifaceted sweet amber with jammy rose, AN is a beauty. The amber accord is addictive, reminiscent in parts of myrrh, benzoin and ambergris instead of being a grey haze lazily derived from synthetic amber-esque base notes. Elegant, wearable rose-tinted sweet amber. 4/5.

jassca99

Ambre Nuit is an appealing amber possibly mixed with balmy benzoin, sweet rose that’s a little jammy, and cinnamon which all somehow results in smelling like a sweet amber, honeyed root beer? So smooth and definitely unisex but I initially thought it leaned feminine because I picked out the rose very well in the opening like the one in Aerin Amber Musk; Amber Musk is different and completely feminine with sweetness from coconut cream and oil, increased rose blended with amber and benzoin. However, the amber and spice in Amber Nuit become stronger with time on the skin keeping it unisex maybe leaning masc. It can definitely be worn by a man, in fact I would like to smell it on a man and on myself, although I prefer Amber Musk for myself. There are definitely unlisted notes in this, such as soft spices like cinnamon which I pick up greatly and maybe nutmeg. Both notorious for contributing to a gummy, soda accord. Projection is strong on me for the first 2 hours then it mellows out.

Raul Claudiu

This is just incredibly beautiful. The rose is not heavy like in other fragrances, here it s just like you squished fresh pink rose petals in your hand then smelled them. It is also lightened up by some citrus and pepper while still having some darkness and depth, especially in the drydown, the ambergris note makes it lean slightly masculine. It’s hard to describe in words though how gorgeous this perfume actually is. Genius composition.Perfect for a golden autumn day or special occasions any time of the year.Warm, romantic, sensual but not sweet.

IamdrinkingBeer

My 40ml 2022 batch is very weak, lets hope the maceration gives it some strength

RawSmells

I have been collecting Niche Frags for a few years now, and have about 70+. This Frag is my second designer fragrance from Dior, the other one being Dior Homme Parfum, which I adore equally as this frag. If the fact that this is my second designer frag out of my entire collection didn't suffice to say how awesome it is, then I don’t know what will :)

The DNA from Dior Homme Perfume can be sensed here, more like a template for the line I'm guessing. This is such a versatile, unique and stunning fragrance in my books. I think I will be purchasing a 250ml bottle at one point as I can wear this anywhere, anytime, in whatever occasion, other opinions may vary. I have layered this with Creed's Tabarome Millésime to give this fragrance some lift, and it worked surprisingly well, considering how much of an imbecile I am at layering!

I'm very chuffed with the fact that Dior has a line that sits in the designer realm, a gorgeously crafted people pleaser, yet can hold it's weight in the Niche world, and is very unique, to me anyway. I have already purchased Oud Rosewood on the back of this, but has not arrived yet, and I'm hoping that I'll love that the same way, and will encourage me to venture more into this wonderful Privee line

FB worth, safe blind buy, an extremely versatile people pleaser, yet signature fragrance worthy, highly recommend this to any person, or any gender, and any age.

Enjoy, stay safe, and may God bless you all :)

jellybeantree

This fragrance is my low key chill fragrance. It’s not super strong but it’s so relaxing to me and very versatile. It’s a love for me.

NiWi

In the first two-three hours this comes off really smoky on my skin. It does not overpower the absolutely perfect rose and the amber note, but leans too masculine for me. But then the smokiness soften and the remaining dry down blends the notes perfectly into a warm, honeyed beauty. I would love this fragrance on a man.

tanaC

Ambre Nuit
(2 ml. Decants from friend, thank you)

This is definitely on my buy list.
This is Honeyed Amber with Rose I am looking for.

Warm-sweet amber with minimal mineral undetone.
A hint of spicy from Ambre itself (spicy Safforn like)
Rose centric in the middle.

If there is mildly incense note this would be freaky amzing.

11/10 must buy..

Full wear experience

As I use further, I doubt this scent a bit.
It's wired because, this doesn't scream "Amber" for me.

I full wear this a few time, and I notice the amount quality of Cedarwood note.
I enjoy this personally but then there was certain Amber experience.
But it is really dry amber experience. Their was a tone of smokiness / Birch tar quality.
I think this is from certain aspect of Guaiac wood.

What I doubt in scent, sort of lock chain is the tingle accent in this one.
It is sperate from the woodiness that lay down in here.
I doubt it was Patchouli(?), but I am not so sure in this is very dry like dry leaf like.

But I still enjoy the scent, I wish I can wear this a bit more often.
This is the dry amber experience without much of Sweetness you can wear often.

Score 9/10
Projection : Moderate Soft with Double spray
Longevity : 6-7 hours
Classification : Unisex, but sexier on a man
Summary : Dry Amber with Rose Expereince

Gatorsrules

Normally, I can’t stand rose. This is NOT a typical rose scent. It doesn’t even come close to a rose amber on me. The powdery, floral, and warm accords are blended beautifully. This is quite the head turner for compliments for me. It’s dead on unisex too! Overall gorgeous!

Creamy_ambrette

Wow! This is so beautiful! I have a 2022 batch and I swear there are more notes in this. When I first sprayed this, as the opening warmed on my skin, it reminded me of Layton- which has patchouli, sandalwood, pepper and guaiac wood in it’s base and bergamot in the opening ( along with other notes) Then Ambre Nuit changes and comes across almost smoky, powder and incense-like on me - slightly reminding me of Magnificat -which also has rose and Amber but Magnificat is much more dense. Ambre Nuit is a bit more sheer. I swear this is the same as the 2009 Ambre Nuit: Bergamot and Grapefruit; middle notes are Damask Rose and Pink Pepper; base notes are Ambergris, Guaiac Wood, Cedar and Patchouli. I’m so happy this doesn’t go oily and animalic like some ambergris goes on me. I have a 40 Ml and I think I might have to go and purchase a larger bottle! This is just a first impression after a few hours. I’ll update in a few days about performance.

Sugarpoiso

It's funny how your nose can change. I've had multiple samples that smelled like harsh, dimension-less cologne. I put my latest sample away a few months ago and revisited and I can't stop smelling my hand. It's sweet, almost honeyed rose, a little powdery, a touch warm amber. Really classy

Kaylovely

I should have a sample somewhere. The candle: reminds me of Vanila Diorama with added amber and less sweetness. I get the amber fossil powdery vibe. Yum

FragStar

Opens with a beautiful amber, slightly spicy pepper and jammy rose. The amber is resinous and the rose is luxurious and enveloping. The dry down loses the spice, but the elegant amber and rose combination gains a warm vannilic, masculine accord. The fragrance feels stylish, opulent and completely modern. A fantastic success and worth every penny.

Pistonj

Just dropping by to update my 3-year-old review. Still the best fragrance ever.

TupacAmaruShakur

Imagine Chanel Egoiste without tobacco and cinnamon, I always loved the opening of Egoiste but after an hour I smelled like a ashtray and this is not the case with Ambre Nuit, it has the opening of Egoiste and then takes a different direction, it never loses that light, seductive scent, it becomes a little sweeter on the drydown but the opening is riding along through the whole journey.

I love it, perfectly blended. My top 3!

Edit: Batch is from 2023 January, lasts +10h on me. I'm from Europe so my bottle arrived from Paris.

aaronmy

The essence of this fragrance is beautiful. Amber and rose give this the most relax and welcoming vibe. This also can be extremely classy. Amber and rose are the only things listed on here, but I smell spiciness of pink pepper, and also ambergris (both of which are noted with the original). To my nose, this is a high-end clean fragrance. It lasts all day and on clothes even longer. It has this warmth that's so lovely, but so airy. The performance is great. It does not project far, but it projects for a long time. It lasts all day on skin, and on clothes, this will last a full day. Unfortunately, as much as I love this, I would prefer this on a lady. Otherwise, I believe that this is a classy scent for men. I cannot see myself wearing this casually. This is also an all season, any reason scent. I would just be light in the summer.

PWAAAA

the best 🤷♂️

Shaina87

This is such a pretty amber and rose fragrance. It's unisex for sure. The rose is a little powdery on my skin and the amber has a slight spiciness to it. It smells elegant and classy. I wouldn't say it's very unique. But it is really nice and I enjoy wearing it in the winter for a night out. For me, performance is moderate.

efehoria

It has similarities with 40 knots but it cannot replace it. The smell is nice but it lasts very short because its performance is terrible! Don't waste your money 🤷🏻

Lukasssss

Very well blended, pleasant, and classy.
I feel like it leans feminine, I picture a mature woman wearing it.
Deep amber with a clean rose finish that I think can be worn year round except for hot summer days. 7/10.

Dramaloladiva

Ambre Nuit is pure sexiness and seduction!! 🖤🌹🖤

I wear it to bed as much as I wear it to special occasions. This puts me in a serene mood but it also makes me feel beautiful and confident. I love Ambre Nuit. It is a beauty in terms of composition the rose, of course but the warmer elements as well such as the Amber and other notes I cannot quite guess…. At the top though, Ambre Nuit is almost fizzy like a coca-cola (only for just a few seconds), and I absolutely love the rush that it gives me ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪

This is definitely unisex leaning neither feminine nor masculine and it smells so warm and comforting. It is a masterpiece and one of my favorites from Dior!

deauxBabs

I was given a tester of this scent when I bought Gris Dior
Although it does not smell too unique it does have a very luxurious scent
I would buy this if it was cheaper
not worth the price
6/10
EDIT - I changed my mind this frag grew on me it's worth the hefty tag
new rating - 9/10

harperhilton

this is growing on me -- fresh at the beginning and then deepening into a soft, slightly spicy amber/rose/ambergris. lovely. but not for me.

12/16/23 addendum, pretty much exactly one year later: this has advanced to one of my very favorite perfumes. funny how that happens.

Noseblinded

I get the reference to Grand Soir. But with the rose this feels more powdery to me, almost talc-like. I get the rose, but I also get a lot of its greeness, which is nice. Maybe some incense in the opening. Not for me, but I cant deny this is beautiful, it has a calming cozy vibe to it, while remaining elegant and attractive.

Weedol1972

I adore this fragrance. Not quite as nice as Grand Soir by MFK but it is a beautiful scent. I’d say it’s more feminine, subtly beautiful however on a negative it doesn’t last long at just an hour or so for me.

Child Chemist

Very clean, sparkly amber with "baby oil" rose notes. Would be stunning on a chic woman. I adore Ambre Nuit's powdery dry down; This transformation takes the fragrance to the next level.

Sofia Y.

Musc noir rose smell a lot like ambre nuit imo!

AmiHec

Ambre Nuit is pure sophistication. It’s rich/delicate amber unlike anything else.

I imagine this is what Leonardo DiCaprio wore in Titanic. A smooth boy and a sweet girl indulging the chase for each other on a grand ship. The story of Jack and Rose is always bittersweet to watch. Epic film and a special fragrance forsure.

realitygreene

I received a sample of Ambre Nuit with a recent purchase on Dior's website so I know it's legit. As a fragrance, as a creation or work of art, this is divine. It smells like quality fragrance. I do think this fragrance is unisex, but it leans a bit more masculine and heavy for my personal tastes so although I like that I had the opportunity to try this fragrance out, it's not one that I would ever purchase for myself. I'm not even sure I would like it on my boyfriend...I mean, I'm sure it would be nice, but it's not a scent profile that I really go crazy over.

And honestly, I don't even know what kind of notes are in here. Amber and rose of course, but this is also pretty spicy. That's what gives it the masculine edge. There's a bit of a honeyed edge to this fragrance that I do enjoy. My nose finds this scent good and pleasant, but also distinctly knows that I don't want to smell like this.

edit: after three hours this has really softened on my skin. Still not one I would reach for or want to smell like, but its slightly less masculine. The natural smell of my skin mixes really well with this fragrance.

singhdivjot

Smell honey, amber and tonka in the beginning.
There is also a floral component maybe rose but its not super prominent and only there to balance the whole composition.
Very versatile, unisex and overall relaxing vibe.
Very good for chilly nights in canada here.

Sartorial Mess

To me, Ambre Nuit is like the refined, more polished, richer, handsome older brother of Dolce & Gabbana’s “The One, for Men, Eau de Parfum.” It has a similar vibe but the quality of ingredients, the overall composition and longevity are infinitely better. You really need to test/spray it on skin to get a feel for it. Spraying it on a test strip does not do this fragrance justice. Absolutely love this fragrance and will not hesitate to repurchase.

Marek1710

Just masterpiece, no more words needed. When i wear this perfume i feel like “damn this smells so good”. Longevity above 6h easy on my skin. Dont hesitate.

sparris

Reminds me of Costes 2 but without the soapiness. Subdued but not boring or bland.

Controlledbyscent31

This to me is like a better mfk grand soir 🤩 I really like this one but I'm undecided if I like it for me or my husband will report back....

Adog22

Smells like a toned down and slightly floral version of tobacolor. Almost get a cherry accord in the background. Projects pretty well.

likesleet

pure amber on the first spray, but then grapefruit, rose, and bergamot combine to make a clean, fresh, and slightly sweet drydown. gold standard for amber tbh

Vikkinca

Further to my glowing review below of this amazingly well-blended rose fragrance I must inform those who aren't able to afford the original that there is an astoundingly nailed-on clone by Fragrance World. There is no change of name; it is also Ambre Nuit.

I have tested the Fragrance World version three times now against the Dior, and I can barely tell the difference. In fact, I forgot which arm I'd sprayed which Ambre Nuit - that is how good the dupe is. If you have the opportunity to try Ambre Nuit by Fragrance World please do. It is a mere $13 where I'm from, so naturally I bought myself four bottles of the stuff😊 They come in 100ml. bottles. I am confident you will find it to be of outstanding quality in terms of scent, presentation and performance. Longevity is at least 10 hours. For me, it is one of the most proficient clones I have ever come across.

Stay blessed and happy always, my fragrance family🌹

Deepak Vashistha

Warm, luxurious amber. A minimal amber scent with some rose. There is definitely cloves in the background which gives it a tad bit of spiciness. Close to 40 knots by Xerjoff but i found this one to be more pleasant and warm. 40 knots is much spicier. Overall Ambre Nuit is a cozy fragrance with warm amber which will surround you like a blanket and will remain close to skin. Performance is decent with 5-6 hours and projection is mild, so i recommend 8-10 sprays with this to get a good scent bubble. This could also act as a signature scent as this is not intrusive at all and also kind of mild for office wear. Though this is more of an evening scent for me.

ilsagold

I've tried it at the airport, on my wrist, before my flight I enjoyed the scent until I take my seat on the plane. Then I flew for 3 hours and an hour to get to the hotel and soon I slept. I forget the scent last 3-4 hours as I didn't get any whiffs of it. Probably the projection was low. Anyway, I purchased a decant. It is indeed a skin scent for about 6 hours. No need to spend for a full bottle with poor performance.
It reminded me of my beloved Vanilla Flash, which performs and smells better than this. Anyway, I'll finish it by layering it with Acqua Di Parma's Colonia Leather Eau de Cologne Concentrée, which also has a rose note that needs to be doused up plus they both have guaiac wood and cedarwood.

Vikkinca

If Tom Ford's Noir de Noir is a luscious red rose then Ambre Nuit is an ethereal pink. This is sumptuous. Beautiful. Comforting. Incredibly well blended where the rose is creamy, almost reminds me of the feeling I get when I am indulging in a strawberry milkshake. This is one of those fragrances that you can use to layer other scents, with great effect.

Of all the fragrances in Dior's Collection Privee, it is Ambre Nuit and Bois D'Argent that are (thus far) miles ahead of the rest. They're the only two worth purchasing the 250ml. bottles. Both perfectly unisex, and lasts at least 12 hours on skin. I am totally gaga over them💖

Dramaloladiva

Oh. My. Goodness. Where has this been all my life???
This is so beautiful, soft, warm, tender, and I am head over heels for this!
The amber here is luminous and rich and almost mouth watering! It is beautiful and I will have to get a full bottle of this mist of Heaven!

DenM

Lovely scent. Very well balanced. Smooth, not loud and good for any occasion. Performance on the weak side.

stalal

One of my favourite almost animalic amber. This is beautiful. Don't let animalic mislead you, its not the barnyard smell. its more of a musk smell.. Rose is so well blended I cant tell it apart but it definitely adds to the perfume. Long lasting and moderately projecting. I spray it often at night before going to bed to enjoy it few hours before I fall asleep.

Its like Perfumer was making Chypre Perfume but half way into making changed their mind. Which makes it very interesting.

Its funny review below states they find it similar to Frederic Malle's Portrait of Lady and I find it similar to Musc Ravageur.

cedrat

This fragrance has captivated me hook line and sinker. I can't believe something with such a minimal note list can be so luxurious, elegant, refined, and classy. This is definitely a treat. There is a spicy rose but it's the ambergris with its languid, mellow depth that sets this fragrance apart.

This fragrance bears a strong resemblance to Frederic Malle Portrait of A Lady, but is much more understated. I confess I like this better than POAL, which was among the top roses in my book. The amber must be constructed from very high quality ingredients indeed. Smells very natural and has the perfect "weight": I wouldn't call this airy, but it comes close.

Hugely impressed with this, and looking forward to exploring more of Demachy's massive ouvre.

Yalcin05

The opening is amazing! Spicey amber and yet so airy and dreamy vibes.. can’t describe it, it’s so simple yet so complex since they made amber smell more airy than even some freshies. The rose is prominent as well, but not annoying or to sweet or jammy.

Drydown is exactly 40 knots by Xerjoff which made me doubt if I want it.. at the end I took it and no regrets. It does smell luxury and it’s definitely unisex. Both males could pull this off and for sure dress up or down, but in my opinion always dress up. If you have a bad day smell this and it will make you feel warm and home. So again dreamy cozy vibes! Just dream and chill or go out for an extraordinary date!

The performance: longevity around 8-10 hours with 6 sprays but the Sillage is strange.. it goes and comes like a aura bubble.. not sure if this is the right description but it goes and comes.. specially on clothes or chest.

Scent 9/10
Performance 7/10
Value 7/10

If you like this scent and want it bit more masculine take40 knots of Xerjoff the performance is also beastmode on that. But this smells more dreamy and the opening is to die for.. ambery peppery sweet airry thing… man can’t stop sniffing the open en mids..

I absolutely loved the Ambre Nuit I smelled and tried at the Dior Boutique. It was a beautifully executed fragrance that smelled classy and grown up. The rose was very bright and prominent of course with the amber, and I could smell soft spices and sweetness. It was bright and fizzy and an instant love.

The one I purchased and brought home, not so much. I have tested it many times and it just smells dusty, animalic, dated and masculine. Nearly no rose, no freshness. I’m confused.

lanamarie

First; if you are looking for longevity, this is it. I have showered, put lotion on, and i can still smell the fragrance. And i had applied it about 12+ hours prior to my shower. I can see this being a unisex scent, however i think it leans slightly more masculine. It kinda reminds me vintage mens colognes, but not as strong and overpowering. For me, this isn’t an every day fragrance but i can DEFINITELY see myself using it for occasions like nights out drinking, karaoke in a bar, and nights at a jazz club. I personally don’t get much floral out of this, but that could be my nose. I still think it’s a great fragrance.

adelaidesandrina

This is my feel good perfume. Whenever i wear this i just feel confident, probably because it just exudes power in some way! It smells rich, elegant and feminine with a slightly masculine edge. It just smells so sensual. The rose here is delicate, in fact i think it resembles rose petals more. The amber is animalic, and somewhat viscous which makes it smell like 24k gold (no joke). I love to layer this one with gris dior, gris has this dryness to it which compliments the jamminess of ambre nuit. Those two combined? Wow! It creates this “smoldering” fragrance that’ll attract attention.

I really like the MCD line, when you first smell them you might not be too impressed. But the more you smell each and every one of them, you’ll slowly appreciate them to the point where you just want more!! You can really smell how well made they are, and the high quality ingredients used to make them.

spiceysauce5

So good, so so good. Drydown is spicier and less rosey, but still just as smooth. This is my favorite of the dior privee line so far, really is unisex, very romantic and night time vibes without being stuffy, fuzzy, heavy, syrupy, gourmandy, or headachey, which is a big feat imo.

SailorV

Ambers are usually warm and balsamic, and this is no exception from the rule. But it's also surprisingly dewy for an amber, which really makes it stand out. Notes of fresh red roses and grapefruit give it a lush, humid texture so it feels very smooth and not as dry and resinous as many others from this scent family. It's still a very warming fragrance with spicy and woody accents, just more balanced and fresh than usual. There is a dash of patchouli in the base and I think I also get some tonka, despite that not being in any notes list for Ambre Nuit. Maybe it's part of the amber accord here, because I absolutely smell the familiar powdery, spicy and sweet aroma of tonka somewhere between the multiple layers of this fragrance.
I have tried a decant from a recent bottle and have no idea if the scent is very different from the 2009 version, but I think the notes list from the old version describes this much better than just "Turkish rose and amber". Dior's website seems to be intentionally vague and doesn't mention a lot of notes, an while amber and rose are the most important notes here, it's definitely not just a two-note-wonder.

In my opinion this is completely unisex. It's not a simple gender neutral scent though, it balances traditionally masculine and feminine notes so nicely that any amber lover can easily wear it. I noticed that it is voted as "more male" at the moment, but I really don't perceive it that way, even though I'm a woman who doesn't like to wear masculine scents. It smells like a formal, refined evening fragrance to me. I could see it equally well on a person in a black suit or a long dark red evening gown, or even a golden cocktail dress... Just something glamorous and a little upscale.
Not quite a love for me at the moment, but a strong like that I'll keep in mind if I ever crave a new amber.

espoj

Ive had this for a while and like everyone here, it is sumptuous. What I have picked up is its animalic dry down. I always thought it got funky in its dry down but now fragrantica can confirm there is an animalic element so im not going crazy.

Ive notice principally that in warmer weather it can turn animalic. And I love animalics so this fragrance just went up a notch in my books to superstar status.

JakamoFiNaYe

To my nose, Ambre Nuit smells like candied grapefruit added to a fizzing Coca-Cola which is infused with a transparent, smooth rose note. This is the most wearable rose I’ve ever come across, the perfect mix of seductive and elegant. The aforementioned description probably wouldn’t lead one to think so, but it leans toward the masculine side of things on my skin.

ArcticCrocus

Another fragrance that smells reassuringly of cold cream. Reminds me of theatre people and after parties. Ambers sweet but subdued once fully dry. So good. I want to eat it up.

Better than Gris Dior, imho.

clo2005

floral heavy to my nose

RainbowGirl

This is incredible. The amber smells delicious. Almost like a spicy cake with a hint of rose. I wish I could afford this. I want to bathe in it.

Liamddf

This thing smells incredible! I got a little miniature with a Dior order and its just unreal. Looks so simple in the note breakdown but honestly you need to smell it. Then feel bad about not having it because of how expensive this thing is

jzryl

Smells spicy yet sweet, cannot describe how pleasant this is amber sure is prominent. Sadly doesn't last all that long in a temperate country such as mine.

Formula1

Just got my bottle from Dior today. Smells beautiful. Put it on about 8:30AM and still getting wafts of the smell at 5:00PM. Initially I get the amber and spice smell but now I smell the rose coming through. Can't wait to wear it again tomorrow. Love this!!

ckorp8

On skin only amber and rose showed up like the pyramid stated. However, on clothing, I also get something rather spicy, and someone mentioned pink pepper and that might very well be it. I love this perfume. Its refreshing somehow. Not too bad a price if you consider that at about the same price of this 250ml you only get 50ml of Tom Ford’s special ones.

I just noticed there are two Ambre Nuit listed, one under Privee and one under MCD Collection. How do we tell which is which? I’m assuming mine is the newer one which is this one.

Russruss

I'm 100% convinced that there is is labdanum in this. Really apparent in the base.
I get a really strong amber, leathery smell that has a touch of rose surrounding it. Definitely a more grown up scent.
Very sophisticated and up class but I do think that a fragrance like Moustache EDP by Rochas that cost 3 times less, performs better, is also a fragrance that is built around Amber & Rose and also has much more going on for it would be a better choice.

Nonetheless, a solid 8.5/10.

rullaxoxo

Ambre Nuit is a masterpiece. It’s one of the most magnificent juices that I’ve ever had my nose on. It is perfectly unisex, and it is sparkling, warm, boozy, bold, sensual, and romantic. Overall, I mainly get amber and rose, but there is something spicy about this one. I think it is a beautiful signature scent, but it’s best suited for autumn.

Overall: 10/10

Ms Floral Turbo

Another Dior gem - this is an excellent fragrance for both genders.
Anything with Amber in it, I love, plus adding Rose and Musk, makes it divine.
My bottle of this has just finished, and I will definitely buy it again.
Could recommend this for over 25+, both males and females.

FMilan

First time sampling the almighty Ambre Nuit. I have never ever sniffed this one over my own skin.

But... is there ambrette in here?

People are just wowzers over this one, but it’s not an easy perfume. It’s, to my nose, borderline daring. Reading about it over the years, that’s something I couldn’t imagine.

It’s gonna need some more tests.

Liz-frag

Bois d’argent absolutely deserves it’s hype.
However, I’m so happy that the « populasse » aka common people, decided to set their sight on this one and leave to US, THE PERFUME GODS, the fabulous Ambre Nuit.
Ambre nuit is warm, charismatic, sexy, alluring..
The person who wears Ambre nuit knows that He/She is HOT.
The lasting power is incredible and this is definitely a complex fragrance, there is way more going on there than amber and rose.
It evolves in so many different ways, it’s a carnival!
I don’t know which kind of meat Francois Demachy ate the day He created this beauty but it was definitely a Fauve.

Francois Belmont

This fragrance cannot be justified by its note breakdown. This is the best creation from Maison Christian Dior IMO. Such a beautiful scent that mesmerizes anyone smelling it. It deserves every superlative in the dictionary. This and Xerjoff Naxos remain the only scents I've ever fallen in love with at first sniff. I just can't stop smelling this stuff, and its even better when it lingers in the air. It's not a beastly perfomer as lets say Amouage Interlude, but neither was it designed to be. 10/10

Martin__

Uhm. An oriental, sweet to the bone amber fully covered with rose. Actually on my skin it's a rose with an amber background with a pinch of pink pepper and maybe honey as well. The rose is jammy and beautiful. The whole fragrance is definitely leaning towards feminine bu that is okay for me.

Perfect match for those who like oriental rose scents (without oud) with an addition of amber for a change.

The sillage and longevity are impressive so it is easy to overspray that one.

Nessers

When I think about not having this fragrance, I get anxiety. That's how much I like Ambre Nuit.

vetiverica

Deceptively simple. It's not just amber and rose here. After a lively citrus opening, pink pepper adds depth to Turkish rose while cedar and guaiac wood form a base of sorts for the amber accord. With that being said, Ambre Nuit never feels overly forward. It's all blended so well that you could forgive someone for attributing just two notes to this - and that's precisely where it's power lies.

moderndandy_swap

To everyone who says that its weak nowadays: I used to think the same way. I bought small 40ml bottle almost 1.5 year ago, sprayed it few times, and it was REALLY weak. I barely used it, except last autumn, when I was overspraying it a lot to compensate the weakness. Recently I pulled it out again, and it came back with the vengeance - potency seems to be quadrupled, and amber became almost head-ache-inducing-level powerful. I did not expect this plot twist!

frederikxgaden

This is an amazing combination of rose, amber and pink pepper. This is by far my favorite fragrance ever! If i had to keep one fragrance for the rest of my life this would hands down be Ambre Nuit. The fragrance is unisex, but i find it more suitable for a man. The scent feels light, sensual and intriguing. The longevity on my skin is 6-8 hours with moderate projection and sillage which i find perfect for this scent. If it was more powerfull i think it would lose its elegancy and classiness. What i really like about Ambre Nuit is that it does'nt scream for attention it is very classy and elegant. I find this perfect for spring and fall day time but also slightly cooler summer nights. All in all the scent is perfect for men and women that want to smell sophisticated, classy and elegant.

jellisunc

This is a nice and powdery amber fragrance with just a touch of rose. As it dries down on my skin it gets a little muskier, which I enjoy.

This is a romantic and alluring fragrance in my eyes, perfectly unisex. While simple note breakdown, the blend is executed very well and there is nothing that seems off here. As it dries down it gets a little sweeter and almost seductive.

However, it's just a like for me, not love as it's just a bit too powdery on me.

Kloppo

Spicy gingerbread with a light-moderate sweetness. I'd compare this to 1 milion prive's spices plus a bit of ginger, but I prefer prive to this because of the price and appley creamy sweetness in comparison to this one being a bit more harsh and ambery. If only the dior private blends were cheaper :(.

RogerJr17

Ambre Nuit is a scent that I've heard talked about for a couple of years now. I watched Youtube and it's on every guy's Winter/Fall niche list. I finally got on Dior's website and was browsing their "higher priced" stuff such as Oud Ispahan, Ambre Nuit, etc. Almost every Dior I own is a designer release so I decided to purchase one of these and I decided on Ambre Nuit. The reason for this is because I like amber scents. I was a little concerned after purchasing this because IMMEDIATELY after I got the confirmation email I was checking to see what this smelled like. I read the words "La Nuit De L'Homme" and I about fell out of my chair. The panic set in and I was like, "Aw sh*t! I already own this scent. Why?!" I got the package in the mail and nervously opened it up. I sprayed it on my hand for the test (because I live dangerously and blind buy stuff that I shouldn't). I'm wearing it as my SOTD and I got this near the beginning of last year. Here's what I think about it.

The Smell: Don't expect mind-blowing changes on this one. Very linear. I never would have pegged this to be two notes (according to the note breakdown on this site). For the record, I barely get the rose in this. This is a straight up Amber bomb. The amber does come off kind of powdery which can happen. It is super strong. I put on 3 sprays (overkill by the way) and my room has been taken over by this scent. No complaints here. I've worn it to work multiple times (which is crazy) and I was noticed quickly. I did not even make it down the hall from the time clock when I hear, "What is that? Smells really good." The girl smelled me and was like, "I knew it was you." For those who compared it to LNDL - nope. I don't see it at all.
8/10

Projection: It's strong. You'll get noticed
10/10

Price: $100 for 40 mL ($2.50 per mL), $250 for 125 mL ($2 per mL, which is what I have). I would say that's not bad honestly. This is also great quality and I think you get what you pay for in this scent.
8/10

Versatility: It's been cold lately. This stuff is MADE for cold weather, I swear. You could definitely wear it in the Fall as well. It'd definitely be a good date scent as well. Wearing it in the heat is (to quote Monty Python) "Right out!" I've worn it to the gym and it became cloying really fast. Depending on where you work, I would also be cautious about wearing it on the job.

I got lucky on the blind buy. Again. I'm pushing my luck because I know, eventually, I'm going to get burned. I like the scent and was glad (plus fortunate) that it works so well on my skin. I do recommend trying it out for yourself. Dior, from what I have been told, has some winners in this line and, apparently, this is one of them. Get a sample and let me know about your experience.

hottspice

Ok fragrance, very powdery but it is a well blended floral amber scent.

toompje88

An extremely sophisticated and rich smelling amber(gris) and rose blend is what I am getting (2019 batch), I smell 50/50 both rose and ambergris perfectly balanced. It also seems that there are some spices in the background throughout the longevity of the scent. The projection and sillage are medium but it has a good longevity, 8 hours more or less. Concluding, an exquisite fragrance, luxurious but understated. I’ll give it a 9/10.

Whit

This is oh so good! Warm ambery goodness with a woodsy dry down. On my skin, I don't get much rose at all; just a slight pinch of it. What I do get is lots of amber and woods; smells much more complex than the notes suggest. The dry down is spicy and takes on a masculine approach, which I actually love. Even my hubby complimented it and he usually doesn't pay attention to my perfume. LOL

Very long lasting with moderate sillage in the dry down. Great for cooler temps but I think it might wear well in the summer too. An instant love for me!

Pistonj

In my opinion this is the best fragrance ever

PerfumeLellek

This has to be the best scent there is. I sometimes just put this on at night to fall asleep to. Its so soothing.

Ambroxer

Ambre Nuit is an exquisite fragrance saddled by lackluster performance. This is a warm, rosy scent which personifies class, elegance and wealth. Although longevity and projection both come off as underwhelming on my skin, I still find Ambre Nuit to represent the glamorous luxury of a bygone era.

Amber Nuit is a superb blend of amber and rose. They dance around each other gracefully, each seemingly swapping turns to lead.  The resulting fragrance is perfectly balanced between these two notes, but also between masculine and feminine and passion and intimacy. This is a fragrance to add smoldering mystique to your nocturnal profile. The amber takes on a carnal facet while the rose has a balletic delicacy. Together, they come together in a marriage elevating each other high above what they would be alone.

I would see Ambre Nuit being perfectly suited to evenings and special occasions. By no means is this an everyday scent, but instead, one that should be savored and paired with events bound to bring joyful memories for years to come. Despite my perceived performance issues, this is a fragrance that will enhance your surroundings, even if it is only for your exclusive benefit.  Spray Ambre Nuit, turn off the lights, close your eyes, breath in and be seduced into bliss.

Djedi

You can feel a quick burst of citruses in the opening, quickly followed by an airy rose and light amber. The rose is nicely paired with an ambergris accord and never gets too sweet or intrusive. Lightly sweet because of the amber, the rose is spicy and balanced, and the blend is classy and understated. Excellent blending here by Demachy. The drydown leaves a nice but fairly mundane amber accord, which is a tad boozy. At this stage the rose is almost gone from the skin. Perfectly unisex, but to my dismay very discreet. It becomes a skin scent almost immediately. Frankly I wished the performance was a bit better. However, this does make it very versatile and suitable for office wear/close quarters. A great release and I recommend to at least sample it.

8/10

Christian Dior Dior

If I could describe Ambre Nuit (formulation as of July 2020) in a sentence, it would be a bottle of pure class, sophistication and luxury.

Ambre Nuit has a masculine touch to it and do not let the rose note draw you off it, it is a "masculine" rose which is not often the case with a fragrance that has rose and not oud to compliment it.

Ambre Nuit has Beastly Longevity with about 8 hours on my skin with projection of about 5 hours. It only turns into a skin scent for it's last 1 hour.

For something to be described as classy, sophisticated and luxurious, it shouldn't be obnoxious. That is why even though Ambre Nuit doesn't project extremely far (beyond 1-2 metres around the wearer) or doesn't leave a heavy or enormous silage, this is actually why I give it a 11/10. And this is purely because it has a slight lack of beastly projection and silage (not
a lack of longevity - it lasts very long) which is why it is Class, Sophistication and Longevity in a bottle.

Omniprime

Everyone raves about this being the best fall fragrance ever.

Sadly, for me, it was a massive disappointment. The closest thing I can compare to this fragrance is probably the smell of baby powder.

It’s clean, nice, and pleasant, but no where near great. It definitely does not smell its price in my opinion. Average at best.

5/10

Marivictory

I am reviewing the older version of this and it reminds me of some of Tom Ford's perfumes. This is a rich amber that isn't that cloying so it just ends up projecting really smoothly.

Ideal for cold weather and I would turn my head if I smelt this on a guy and I'm not a guy so I'll definitely still wear it but not an everyday scent especially since it is summer here so not something I would grab immediately. I do appreciate it. I have my eye on a lot of Tom Ford scents and the way this lingers is similar to some of the perfumes I want from Tom Ford. So yes anyone who loves TF would probably appreciate this most from this Dior line especially for guys who want to turn heads.

17seyed

Don't pay attention to the two notes listed here. The note breakdown is still the same as the old formulation.

Ambre Nuit opens with a trio of jammy rose, pink pepper, and grapefruit. There's a little bergamot there to prevent the grapefruit from turning too tart, but the opening is 90% all about a huge blast of pink pepper doing what it does best with its fresh, slightly sweet, and spicy scent profile.

I don't smell an amber accord here like you'd smell in MFK Grand Soir or Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan. The dry down is all about ambergris, and a very natural smelling ambergris at that. It's got a waxy texture, it's slightly salty, and smoothens out the composition beautifully.

I'm not sure if they used real ambergris or not, but I don't really care because it definitely has all of the scent and texture characteristics of real ambergris.

Ambre Nuit is a very simple fragrance once it dries down, it's just rose and ambergris. But because of the quality of the ingredients and blend that is used here, the fragrance feels alive and breathing off your skin, culminating to what I believe is among my top 10 of best dry downs I have ever smelled in a fragrance.

HUGE compliment getter, especially among those who appreciate the refined.

velhacega

Ambre Nuit is an impeccable brushstroke of rose and amber.
The amber here has a dry and medicinal edge, the vanilla in the accord is toned down and it's as if the sweetness comes from the flower itself. Turkish rose is the protagonist, accompanied by an opening rich in fizzy pink pepper. The scent sparkles upon spraying, and dries down rather linearly.
Wearable by any woman and by any man that appreciates rose.
Moderate projection and good longevity.

Le Festin, performed by Camille

aploto

Really nice, balanced scent. Feels like a more contemporary and unisex translation of straightforward and classic perfumes of old. Unusually pleasant rose, I don't usually care for rose but it fits in nicely here. Really smooth amber.

Aguirre

I have always loved Ambre Nuit.

It has always been pleasing and easy to like, but also a little bit off from today’s perfume standards due to its minimalist, somewhat flat, “unexciting” scent profile.

It starts off as a very happy fragrance: nice citrus accord with a big dose of bergamot and modern pepperiness. Then, the citrusy aspects slowly transform into a stunning, soapy rose. Afterwards, one can start to smell the honey + candied tonka + waxy ambergris/ambrox base adding to the rose. And things just keep getting softer, smoother, and sweeter as time passes.

I love it for its roundness, uniqueness and sophistication. Ambre Nuit is not groundbreaking, but it’s a modern everyday perfume that smells timeless by neither brining back a classic formula nor falling into the black hole of nowadays’ mainstream boredom.

Beautiful.

red81king

As a guys perspective- this is a beautiful scent that can be worn if you have the attire to pull it off. You gotta be dressed to impress, and the scent trail will just elevate whatever you got going for you.

Super impressive and quality but very limited on occasions. Its hard to say if its bottle worthy when a decant will last a long time unless you are some kinda social diva that attends galas every weekend... lol

StratonOakmont

When I first smelled this I was expecting more because of the reviews..but now that it’s grown on me this is really really good stuff. Great performance. Class in a bottle. I think it actually leans a bit masculine.

Maalfattah

SMELL THIS ON YOUR SKIN AND NOT PAPER. This is a sophisticated Amber Fragrance, not the regular overpowering amber you smell in other fragrances. It’s like a lightly powdered amber. The Turkish rose is somewhere in the background and resurfaces every now and then which adds a nice sweetness to this. Projection is a little disappointing as an Amber fragrance but that makes it more intimate and refined.

Bubbles1964

I’m not sure why this happened, but the first time I wore this I couldn’t smell it. I wrote Ambre Nuit off, but kept my decant.

A year later I thought I would try again... and WOW. Obviously the note list is not complete. I’m picking up some sweetness and a light citrus note along with the rose. This is so refined and beautiful.

No big surprise, but this leans masculine. I still enjoy it, Ambre Nuit Is working with my chemistry on this cold blustery day and I’m loving it. Glad I still have 9ml left.

DingleBMoney

Absolutely awesome. This is an excellent, mature perfume. Always get compliments. Do try before you buy to see whether it “fits” your style. But if it does, you are in business.

EauDeBaldy

Now this, is a love at first smell to me.
As soon as I applied this, I immediately loved the masculine, sharpness, warmth of the fragrance.

It is said that this is a unisex fragrance but, to me, this is straight masculine & sexy.

Amber is what this is dominated by, & the rose is a nice dark smell that compliments the amber beautifully.

The more I let this settle and keep smelling it, it reminds me a lot of a fragrance I had awhile back called L'Occitan by L’Occitane En Provence.

As for the types to wear this, personally, this is a mature fragrance, more for those in their 30’s and older. Definitely not for the younger crowd.

The season, Fall & Winter but, I'd lean more for the fall time. Amber always reminds me of the fall season, brown leaves, etc.

Definitely keeping this in my arsenal.

Andy the Frenchy

A sharp smoky amber with a strong support of a balsamic/camphory note that gives a bitter aspect (bay leaf maybe, in the style of Lutens?)

I much prefer their oil Ambre Elixir Precieux, even if the price is quite agressive.

Le Chypriote

Oh wow...

A rich, sharp amber that settles into the most sensual and sweet rose you've ever smelled. An absolute icon.

Alion22

I was expecting something out of this world with all the hype around this one.
Sadly i've been very disappointed. it has a nice smell with a weird old note to it. Must an old pink pepper or something.

-From a distance it feels quite sharp maybe because the only note that projects is the one that i dislike.
-If you burry your nose into your skin it does feel more smooth and round..

The fragrance itself is not very rich, not enough notes or not enough concentrated.

Didn't get me any spontaneous compliment.

Projects for maybe 5 mins then dies into a skin scent for 2 to 3 hours.

Overall, not worth the price..

Jay67

I’m going to have to chime in here with my penny’s-worth of opinion on the “reformulation’” of Dior Ambre Nuit and before everyone starts shouting at me, I’m going to post this on both listings for Ambre Nuit, as my review relates to both, so forgive me!

First off........ this absolutely stunning work of art has been my signature Autumn-Winter fragrance since I first discovered it back in 2012 and if I’m perfectly honest, I’ll often wear it on and off in spring and summer too, just because I can’t get enough of it and miss it like mad when I don’t wear it for a while! Beautiful warm, honeyed ambergris accompanied by rose blended with delicate pink pepper and muted citruses........ it’s just so bloody amazing! Sensual, sumptuous and enveloping, it’s no wonder that Ambre Nuit is held in such high esteem within our community and clearly, it sells well enough for Dior for them to keep it within the Privee/Maison Dior line since 2009, while many of its contemporaries have been discontinued.

I’ve always stood back in wonder and watched while the Creed crowd work themselves into a frenzy over Aventus individual batch codes and which code and year is the best and worst, which is fine if that floats your boat and good luck to you but I’ll steer well clear of all that malarkey thanks.

But....... that being said, I do think that, whilst not necessarily individual batch codes but more the year the batches are produced or rather the year that the natural elements in the higher-end fragrances are harvested and the environmental conditions they were grown in, have a huge bearing on the finished fragrance. Not unlike wine, where the grape harvest quality can vary greatly depending on the weather and soil conditions, the same applies to most naturally grown ingredients, so let’s not lose sight of that fact when we’re discussing the “reformulation” conundrum. As I’ve been informed, Dior produce/grow the majority of their own natural components for their Dior Privèe/Maison Christian Dior line, one would assume that they have very tight quality control over these elements, so that shouldn’t be a factor but nonetheless, it must be a variable.

In my many experiences of Ambre Nuit production from the 4 different bottles that I own, with production dates from 3 different years; 2012, two from 2016 and 2019, I can say categorically that yes, yes indeed there is a big difference between 2019 and the other ‘vintages’, primarily in the longevity but also in the projection to a lesser degree. The question is though ...... is that because the older versions have ‘steeped’ in the bottles over the years, enhancing the efficacy of the components or is it because of replacement or reformulation of ingredients, EU and/or IFRA regulations or something else? We may never know the answer to this question but like the review from @darKSaga below, I have had conversations with the fantastic sales associates & regional managers for Dior at Selfridges & Harrods here in London and Dior boutiques in Paris but ultimately, no sales associate working for a brand like Dior or most others come to that, would tell you even if it were reformulated because if you’re an existing user of the fragrance in question, they run the risk of you not buying it again and if the fragrance is new to you, that information is irrelevant anyway. Also, bear in mind that the sales staff wouldn’t necessarily be told themselves by the regional managers or head office, so they may not necessarily be aware if that were the case and so their default position, should the question be asked is ..... ‘no, there’s been no reformulation as far as I’m aware.’

All of my rambling aside though and in my own very personal opinion, Ambre Nuit (pre 2018) is an absolute stunning fragrance and deserves to be on its pedestal; sensual, comforting & warm whilst oozing class, elegance and sophistication. If I was forced to only own three fragrances for the rest of my life, this would be one of them without question.
The post 2018 version less so unfortunately as the 250ml bottle I have is distinctly weaker in longevity, projection and sillage & whilst it retains the obvious Ambre Nuit DNA, it is somewhat lacking for me in comparison I’m afraid but I still wear it on occasion regardless.

@rvadati .... Thanks a ton for your review ...it helped me save money. I never liked Grand Soir (surprisngly)and would have wasted my money picking Dior .

Dior frags have turned water , I got Dior Feve which fades away in less than 2 hours . What is Dior upto ?????

rvadati

So today we are testing side by side Ambre Nuit and Grand Soir. And it was as shocking to me as it was for the sales people at Neiman Marcus. We literally asked dozen people that were working around that area or were shopping and they all said that these two after 10 minutes spray smell almost identical with a little bit of a difference. That is all I can add to this as far as comparison goes. They both are in a very close ballpark but there is a slight difference where Ambre Nuit leans more on the lipstick/feminine side where Grand Soir leans more on Syrupy/Amber/Bitter Vanilla side. I would say Ambre Nuit would be a great Amber fragrance for a female where Grand Soir would be a great mass appealing amber fragrance for a man.
If I wanted an amber fragrance I would definitely get Amber Absolute by TF.
Update: After 7 hours spray I can clearly smell Grand Soir became very gourmand like, where Ambre Nuit is practically vanished from my skin, I have to stick my nose on my skin to smell.

Smells nice..but does not worth the price

Greetings!

I would really like to know which formulation (before/after 2018) is batch 8G01A1 ???

Thanks in advance!

chipon

Definitely one of the best if not the best amber scent out there. It smells so expensive and is very well refined. Lasts very long as well on me. However, I have to warn that this is not in any way a casual fragrance that can be worn anywhere or any time. It is very much a scent suited to formal events.

Survival

Super linear but AMAZING for an amber scent. It's around the $300 mark on avg but well worth the cash. Longevity is moderate but projection lives throughout most of the hours. Another great release from Dior.

The more I wear it, the more I love it.

Elegant sensuality in a bottle.

Although not listed, there's a predominant honey note to my nose.

The start is freshly spicy with bergamot and pink pepper notes, then it dries down to a smooth, creamy, powdery rose. The amber note here (ambergris, according to the SA) is one of the most realistic ever, not synthetic at all.

Neither too sweet nor cloying, can be worn all year round (at least in the evening). It's very versatile but it suits better upscale or date occasions.

Longevity easily reaches the 12 hours line but the sillage is discrete, which is the only downside.

A true masterpiece, 9/10.

Either my decant is watered down, or my nose is anosmic to Ambre Nuit as I can barely detect it when first applied, and 20 minutes later it’s a nothing burger.

I should be relieved as I didn’t discover another perfume I must have, but instead I’m left confused. Earlier today I even thought I forgot to put on perfume, which is like walking out of the house with no pants on because I feel naked without scent. And considering amber is one of my favorite notes (I know it is a mix of notes creating the illusion of amber), I’m also bummed out.

zenais86

One of the best charming and versatile unisex fragrance that i ever tried in my life. I love it! i think it's the best in my collection, no words... just sniff it forever

@Albo27

I did a side-by-side last night. Regarding the new formulation, I could not pick up the pepper or much citrus that is listed with the older formulation.

But, to your point, it doesn't really matter because it's the same scent.

Albo27

I have both bottles and they smell the same to me I don’t think it got reformulated

12345

The 2018 bottle indeed seems to be reformulated.

It's still great, but not as bright as the previous version.

The amber is more pronounced. Still smooth.

westham1969

Ambre Nuit is an absolute gem of a fragrance, consisting of the smoothest amber I have personally smelled. The ambergris is high quality. This fragrance exudes class and sophistication, and I feel more confident wearing it. Projects well, and as others have mentioned, really is a good price per ml. Another bonus is that I have received more compliments on this fragrance than any I have ever owned. Amber lovers that have not tried Ambre Nuit should get a sample and enjoy.

Mario2017

Absolute knockout, one of the best in the world through all times. I never had so much nice comments from others than with this one. Everyone loves it, sillage is perfect not too much much not light. I canät stop wearing it since I bought it on ebay... 350 usd for 250 ml is a bargain for such high quality

Kitta1974

It is so soft and elegant however not what I expected. Def masculine in my opinion, the amber is dominant and I couldn't tell the rose much. It can be perfect on a man, very sexy indeed. The lasting power is very weak on my skin, sillage is too I think. I don't think it may be regarded as an expensive perfume by other people imo.

I would like to say a few words about Ambre Nuit with regards to the Pre and Post reformulation. I have tried both now, having been able to do that in Selfridges Oxford Street in London.

Previously I refrained from buying this perfume because of the performance issues and projection. But I was educated by a well versed Sales Manager who had been associated with Dior for a long time with regards to performance issues. He explained that no perfumer will have their work affected by negative performance or projection issues, but the public has to understand the art behind the perfume. Some perfumes are created as such which has an intimate nature to it. But if you look at the Dior website the Ambre Nuit is listed as an oriental in Intense category. He conceived that Ambre Nuit induces olfactory fatigue in a lot of people but people around them will be smelling them and hence the supposed performance and projection issue.

I have tried the new reformulation and did it for about 4 or 5 weeks, and I am convinced that the new reformulation has better and improved projection and slightly better longevity. It has been reformulated for the better. Again this is subjective to individual skin chemistry and I found the New Ambre Nuit slightly better in performance and projection. Please note that in my opinion the smell has not been changed at all at least to my nose. I got a 250ml bottle now after many years of almost buying it.

Gorgeous Perfume!

Tried this at the Galleria Saks booth in Houston, TX. I'll assume it's the 2018 version but it's hard to say for certain and I didn't know to ask. They still had some of the discontinued scents from the La Collection Privée line. Smooth, natural ambergris. The ambergris note has woody, musky, floral, salty almost sweet facets. I smell something like cinnamon as well. This is deep and nuanced with an animalic tinge. AN has some similarities to Dior's Eau Sauvage Parfum so there may be some myrrh. There's some magic in the way this mixes with your natural skin scent. Smells high quality.

Mature and unisex but definitely leans feminine. Projects softly off the skin making it nice for work. It could be stronger but I don't mind too much; this is a sexy, intimate scent. Longevity is nice. I'm still smelling this at eight hours. Better for colder weather but some heat and sweat really make AN sing. Pricey but ml for ml cheaper than many niche houses. Excellent fragrance!

Update: I let my fragrance bro try on my decant. With just one spray on his arm I could smell AN a few feet away. Maybe more beastly than I though? I'm curious to hear his thoughts as the frag dried down.

Tyriel

Beautiful scent. This is the most silky, smooth, airy, alluring scent I have ever smelled. This is probably due to the real ambergris they use. I can only imagine how white ambergris (highest quality) smells like.

I am not really fond of the opening. There is a little bit of a misplaced bitterness. I guess this is the grapefruit. But after an hour, the bitterness is gone and it mellows down in the airy, alluring scent I fell in love with. When sprayed on clothes, the bitterness is a bit more pungent and will last a little longer. On clothes, this fragrance lasts for more than a day and will continue to softly project at arm's length for more than 12 hours. Last night, I sprayed a single spray on my shirt at 21:00 and when I put my shirt on the next day (07:30), it was like I was wearing a cloud of ambergris/rose. Beautiful!

Edit: The bitterness was only detectable in the first 10-15 sprays of my new bottle. It is totally abscent now. Now it's pure perfection.

This is the fragrance I will wear if I really want to wow people.

Scent: 12/10
Projection: 8/10 (Soft, close encounter. But this is how a fragrance like this should be. Does project a good amount of hours)
Sillage: 9/10
Longevity: 8/10 (Lasts a good 8-9 hours on skin and more than a day on clothes)
Versatility 8/10 (Date nights and very special occasions)
Uniqueness: 10/10
Price-performance: 9/10 (The only downside is that the Privé line is only available in huge bottles. However, this makes the ml-price very good. Especially for the quality you are getting)
Total: 10/10 (Masterpiece)

I e-mailed Dior, asking about the 2018 version and if it was reformulated. Dior affirmed that no reformulation has been done for the 2018 version. They have re-released their exclusive line, together with some new fragrances. So it is exactly the same juice.

I spoke with Dior customer service today and was informed that the 2018 release of Ambre Nuit was not re-formulated. According to her, they just added new fragrances, discontinued some and will be releasing body products as well in June. Let's hope that the info she gave me was accurate.
It is my all time favorite and I love to layer it with Ambre Elixir Precieux. It took me a while before I finally got myself into buying a tiny elix. bottle for $300, but after I had a chance to sample it in the Vegas boutique, I took one home. :)

AMBRE NUIT is one of the most beautiful fragrance you can wear all the time , this fragrance i can say it is meaning of luxury something different and special , the oriental smell take you to another side of the world , this fragrance talks without any words , its story of luxury ..

I was told by a boutique Manager about 6 months ago that Francois Demachy was completely revamping the Prive line.

Their coming out with like 12 new scents and a few others, such as Amber Nuit is being reformulated

SomeStubble

At Saks the Dior counter has two of these. One is a bit pink. The other this orange color.
The sales person suggested one had oxidized but that seems unlikely as the darker one was full, the light pink almost empty.

The darker juice is more robust but they smell pretty similar if not exactly the same.

I don’t know which is which listed here.

Both smell good. Not great.

Ali AD

Why is Ambre Nuit re-listed as a 2018 release? I see other older CD releases as well.
