I recently bought Parfums de marly Percival because I liked it so much and the longevity was stunning. Now I blind bought this one and to me it is almost the same scent and its performance is out of this world. Now I regret my Percival purchase a bit. Both are amazing in terms of quality.

Go to any department store and smell the Chanel lineup it will go like this nice, nice, inoffensive, nice, let’s have it!!! The last one would be Platinum it’s a cold as ice and fresh and spicy fragrance that will always be in my collection and if you are into fragrance it should be in yours.

jbfragrances22

Timeless, effervescent, clean, metallic.

Undoubtedly one of the best fougeres ever created, and one that will always have a place on my shelves.

vanillacappuccino

This is my absolute favourite among the 90s-00s barbershop fougeres and a staple in my collection. Creed GIT and Himalaya come close, but miss out due to the projection and performance this has on me.

Five sprays in the British spring weather for an evening event: three on the neck, two on the wrists. Kept it on for 5hrs, then returned home to my roommate who was on a FaceTime with his girlfriend on the other end of his room, ~5 metres away from me.

Once he got off the phone, he was quick to point out how the scent projected all the way to him. Insanely beast mode projection-wise.

Longevity is greatly dependent on the temperature: I've found 16-25C to be the sweet spot for a good 6-8hrs.

Overall, 9/10. Banging deal for the price. Greatly recommend.

its simple masculine screaming i dont give a damn, because I am the boss

Chanel, please perfect this fragrance or distill it! I don’t mind the method; just preserve its essence—the most exquisite soapy perfume I’ve ever experienced! We need an Edition or Parfum version of this! 🙏

I thought I must address this classy fragrance, since I’m wearing it today. The gentleman of the Chanel men’s collection, this sparking offering speaks with refinement and elegance, featuring notes of Petitgrain and Neroli in the top notes together with Geranium and Galbanum in the Heart and a beautiful mix of Oakmoss, Cedar, and Vetiver in the drydown. This for me is a very tasteful selection for Spring and Summer, owing to the lovely citrus complex with its floral and subtly woody contrast. On my skin, it starts out fresh and lively with the delightfully surprising melding of Petitgrain and Geranium quickly taking center stage. The dry down is slow and subtle, shifting through the different shades and moods of the fragrance, until it anchors itself in the Oakmoss and Vetiver with just a touch of sweetness and maintains the lush freshness throughout. It smells expensive and unusual, and stays true to the notes through the drying experience. Like a lovely Spring evening, this fragrance invites one to take it slow and enjoy the richness of its subtlety. It lasts a good while on me (7-9 hours) and feels incredibly luxe.

The softness and freshness of this offering retain a certain je ne sais pas quoi of masculinity wrapped up in a fresh, green, leafy canopy. I feel that this can work well in many settings, and draws compliments under the right circumstances. A sophisticated fragrance, I don’t feel it is for everyone, but for me it is an understated gem. The bottle is of clean, minimalist design with a silver cap and the classic Chanel sans serif writing on the transparent glass body. It sits beautifully under a soft lamp on top of my Swedish birch bookcase. If one likes a fresh, elegant fragrance, this would be worth a spin. It’s inoffensive without being blasé and ordinary. I could see wearing this on a date at the amusement park on a warm twilight. Chic, classic, and polite. Well done, indeed.

klolxx

timeless classic, smells like pure class even 31 years later. signature worthy for sure.

vorachoom

Legend never dies. Barbershop DNA with a Chanel elegance touch. One of my client was a Chanel's BA, she told me that when she worked for Chanel she and her colleagues agreed that Platinum Egoiste is a true fragrance for a true man yet easy enough for normal noses to understand.

vsnk

An absolute timeless masterpiece. Reminds me of the older classic - Eau Sauvage from Dior, yet Chanel has lavender instead of citrus and much longer longevity on the skin with stronger projection.

DscentFellow007

They weren’t lying when they said Platinum.
This is Metallic, has a 90s masculine vibe.

Classic for sure. Office safe

zephs08

I'm mindblown. What a masterpiece! I wont say anything as the other guys below have already said it all.

K98

I put this on when I wanna feel like Tony Montana

mikebardenpiano

At first this one came off too spicy or harsh to me, but I've adjusted and now I love it, mostly as an office scent. It's not one for dates or parties really - it's more cold and clinical, but not in a bad way. It just got a structured and intentional vibe to it that seems to be custom-made for office use. Once I got past my initial hesitance over this, it's become one of my favorites.

NotthatScentsitive

Elegant fresh in a sophisticated way.
Makes the all time classic top 10 easily in my book.

Chicago Tony T

Biggie Smalls I believe mentioned this in Big Poppa. My GOAT as far as rappers. I got a decant recently and I agree with everyone's statements. Classy and cold pretty much. Mature and elegant. Not really a casual scent as it's more of a office scent or date night scent for those that don't prefer sweeter scents.

root

Fresh, aromatic, piercing, metallic
It took a while for me to get used to the 'platinum' metallic smell. Underneath it's a great, sporty, clean aftershave feel. This is what American Psycho Patrick Bateman would wear when he was in college, learning his craft, all dressed up in his pinstripes and his ego. His hair slickly combed back, eyes focused on his tasks with brutal efficiency, and still having the time for fun and morbid humour. This would be his go-to smell, his signature scent as a young man. Now that he as grown up, he can't shake this scent because it's part of him. It represents discipline, efficiency, keeps the madness at bay or masked by the metallic edge so he wears it still sometimes with pride.
Definitely worth having this on my rotation. Great during fall and early spring, after a shave before heading out for the day.

capthook

I wore this one as a primary cologne for years. A very citrus / lemon rich opening with a soapy yet woody drydown. Was one of my favorites for a long time and would layer this with an aqua frag sometimes. A similar on-the-cheap clone would be U2 Man by Al-Rehab , but I don't like it nearly as much and it does not last or project like chanel.

This was my "go to" fragrance for a long, long time. Without going into detail, I would say this is a modernized classic. A fusion of old meets new, but in a sophisticated and classy way, not synthetic or short lived. Lasts a long time, smells great and gets lots of compliments -- but isnt to be used heavily. I really like it, but probably would not purchase again due to Chanel being totally unreasonable on price. Sure, its not Creed but its not exactly affordable for what it is either as other similar options are out there such as CK Eternity for example which isn't the same but goes along similar fragrance notes.

Eau de Cornichon

I've recently smelled this for the first time and I really wasn't expecting it to be so smooth, fresh and pleasant.
I didn't look at the note breakdown beforehand so I was expecting it to lean towards the slightly weirder side of things, like Antaeus or the original Egoiste, but instead it just feels classic and familiar in a very friendly, comforting way, it doesn't feel dated by any stretch of the imagination. As a matter of fact, I find it perfectly modern and I think it could be worn by virtually anyone.

Also now I realize that there's sooo much male beauty stuff that kinda smells like this, it's kind of mind blowing.

Besides AHEB, this might be my favorite men's Chanel. What a masterpiece. Signature worthy, wish I discovered it sooner.

letoumit33

I love this stuff its for gentlemen only a green fresh aromatic fragrance versatile for any occasion.but for more mature audience.and its high quality and long lasting as well.its one of my favs freshies

Shalva

Seriously high quality cologne, dark green and cold to the point of being metallic. I personally don't find it very enjoyable as an olfactory experience since it is too serious and borderline sharp but if you want to come off as professional, imposing or if you want to intimidate rivals this will do it. Either way, you can't smell wrong wearing this.

P.S. the drydown is detectable after a couple of days still and it's very nice, reminds me of a christmas tree.

FlowerSeeker

Crisp and fresh! Cedar is strong here and the rosemary complements it so nicely. A classy men’s fragrance. Giving it to the hubby!

Al-Deeb

masterpiece 10/10
i can describe this as a Smell of CEO wearing light blue shirt

Filosykos

Tried it yesterday after a long time. What a classic smells divine and one spray lasted the whole day.
So happy Chanel has taken good care of this.
Platinum for summer .
Egoiste for winter.
It doesn't get any better than this.

alien_with_blue_eyes

Timeless scent.... If you like masculine, mossy, sophisticated, fougere/barbershop and fresh fragrances, you need this gem in your collection. It's not my favorite fragrance, but it's one of the best for sure! 💯

Occydahui

Egoiste Platinum Chanel... the mere mention of its name transports me back to a bygone era. A time when elegance and sophistication reigned supreme, and a man's fragrance was a statement of his refined taste.

I remember the first time I spritzed Egoiste Platinum on my wrists, the way the crisp, metallic notes seemed to shimmer in the air like the chrome trim on a vintage sports car. The lavender and geranium added a subtle depth, a whisper of old-school sophistication that seemed to transport me to a smoke-filled gentlemen's club.

As the scent unfolded on my skin, I felt like I was wrapped in a warm embrace, a comforting sense of tradition and heritage that seemed to connect me to the past. It was like slipping on a well-worn leather armchair, or lighting a cigar in a exclusive gentlemen's lounge.

Egoiste Platinum was more than just a fragrance - it was an experience, a journey through time and tradition. It reminded me of my father, who wore it with pride, and the memories we shared together.

Ah, the nostalgia that Egoiste Platinum evokes! It's a fragrance that refuses to be forgotten, a timeless classic that continues to captivate and transport me to a bygone era. Even now, as I write this review, I can't help but feel a pang of nostalgia, a longing for a time when life was simpler, and a man's fragrance was a statement of his character.

In short, Egoiste Platinum Chanel is a masterpiece, a fragrance that will forever be etched in my memory as a symbol of tradition, elegance, and refinement. If you haven't had the pleasure of experiencing it, do yourself a favor and seek it out. You won't be disappointed.

MakeupNeverSleeps

In response to LMBelvi: I've been wearing this for about a week, giving it thought and doing some research. It seems that the fougère category of frag was originally intended for women, however the "dandy" boys of late 19th century Western Europe ensnared the genre. They read more or less like the post-modern equivalent to high borderline grandiose narcissists, which aligns with the marketing of the scent quite literally. If I (personally) remove the constructs and perceive it in the here-and-now, I too get a truly unisex scent. One who reveres hygiene and values smelling fresh/clean is the one who will wear this well. If men are wearing No. 5, then women should certainly feel free to wear this.

LMBelvi

I have to add… in response to MakeupNeverSleeps… I see your point and was thinking maybe this was too typically masculine for me to wear it as a female “omnivore “ scent lover. But I’ve spent an afternoon with a sample of this, and sorry to bust your marketing idea but I’ve decided this is already unisex enough. For me at least.

colcjf

This is my favourite perfume.

It smells like warm, floral metal. It gives off an urban, modern and french vibe. It's airy yet it projects, which is a terrific accomplishment.

The best Chanel out there.

SammerPharaoh

After a journey in perfumes world, i made a humble conclusion, i found 90th perfumes (which platinum egoist is one of) are simply the best. Very versatile u can wear platinum egoist, Herrera for men, Burberry for men all year around. Not like these days scents that made for specific situation, u need one for summer days which shines in sun heat (profondo) however, for summer nights u need another one (prufomo) etc...

LMBelvi

Tried this in a duty free shop and like it fairly well. Very light spicy dry down that seems quite versatile

Jgough84

Absolutely beautiful fragrance 10/10. Pure class

Clean scents 7

Top tier fragrance, masterpiece.

MakeupNeverSleeps

I see an opportunity that Chanel is missing. I think because this scent is so objectively pleasant-smelling, and that since fougère is largely associated with a well-groomed, professional man...the ego-ideal of the ideal gentleman...that they could take the core of this scent and rewire its exterior with something more associated with a woman. Women that love the fougère blueprint would be able to experience it as attributed to the self and thus could associate enough of it with the self and not entirely with the "ideal" groomed, sophisticated, successful man. Something strongly referential but not literal; à la the appeal that Byredo Gypsy Water has to women, but not such that a man would spray it on and think "woman". In brief, I think if they made a unisex version of this, the ladies would freak. If it ever happens, I'm taking the credit.

BeauBleue

Has anyone bought recently direct from Chanel and can comment on longevity?

Bakpao

Credits to the guy in the comments who said "It takes experience until you find out this is how you want to smell". He's absolutely right.

slytherinhearmyhiss

I ve been reading reviews. Hopefully one day i will be able to afford this :)

Knows2Nose

It sounds like PE might have some its original DNA back? 🤔. I’m definitely intrigued now, gonna see for myself at Nordstroms or Macys, since that’s where people are having the best luck.

Visiting my uncle in the '90s is one of my favorite childhood memories. He was always stylish, funny, and smelled really well. He used to work in Germany and would bring back the coolest things to Poland. Once it was an Action Man figure, another time funky, colorful slime that was fun to play with. Today I know that he wore Platinum Egoiste back then. It's hard for me not to love it.

wizkid04

Im on point, that’s not the 300 it’s the rolls Royce, stainless steel watch by choice with gold voice.

I have a pretty massive collection and freshies and aquatics are "been there done that" like 20 years ago. I'm gen X. This was popular with the rich suburban kids who lived vicariously through Biggie Smalls lyrics.

I figured what the hell, i'll buy a bottle and it can have a place in my rotation this spring and summer. Folks saying this is weak - my bottle is not. I bought at Nordstroms. Sprayed lightly one day and enjoyed it. It's a familiar smell, and it's quality. And over the years of collecting i've learned that some fragrances really take some time to reveal themselves and their character. So, next wearing, i used a full spray to my upper chest/neck area, and it was almost shocking just how much comes when the sprayer is fully depressed. Fast forward a couple hours i'm at work and began feeling dizzy and it was then that i realized i had OD'd on Egoiste. There are a couple fragrances that have that effect - Terre d'Hermes applied too heavily results in same, as does Encre Noire, and Odeur 53. Maybe iso e super?

Anyhow, it's a solid fragrance. Not ground breaking in 2024 but it still holds its own, and really is a perfect work scent, and easy reach pretty much anytime any place. But, this stuff is strong. Easy on the trigger.

Knows2Nose

This was my most complimented fragrance in the early 2000’s. Just down right stupid how many girls loved this on me. Then sometime around 2013 I went to buy a new bottle and it was very noticeable that something had changed. The best way I can put it is that this new formulation was flat and very weak, almost like it was watered down. I keep hoping things would change by testing new bottles but no luck. I did read once that companies sometimes have to alter their ingredients because some ingredients get ‘banned’ by some kind of FDA-like agency, and this may have been the case with PE unfortunately.

Aromatix89

Beautiful Chanel fragrance, woody, floral and musky. Timeless and elegant.
I get over 10 hours on longevity and 2-3 hours of projection. Don’t listen to people saying it’s not strong. Stay hydrated and use a really good body oil then spray on your fragrance. Most people are not hydrated enough or use a cheap lotion or none at all which leaves your body very dry.

Max015

I bought this fragrance when I started my fragrance journey, and I fell in love. At the time, I was 16 years old, and I never understood why people thought it wasn't suited for younger people. It's fresh, floral, and reminds me of a spring/summer break without worries. Seeing the comments about reformulations gives me concerns; I'm close to finishing my current bottle and fully plan on getting a new one. The only thing holding this fragrance back for me has always been the performance, so I hope it's not as bad as everyone says.

holyslap

@BeauBleue

I got this 3-4 years ago loved the smell but the performance was trash so i sold it. I'd suggest not wasting your money. These days we'll be lucky to even find a 5 year old creation not reformulated and watered down let alone a scent from '93.

BeauBleue

This one is on my list but the recent longevity complaints are concerning... Anyone bought recently and can report on it?

KatherineTs

Bought this for my BF and I LOVE it! I can smell it anytime and say WOW.

Hulknas187

Paid full price for this. Hope I love it. It arrives Tuesday 5th of March. I will update this review on March 6th after I have worn it. My last bottle to add to my collection until ADG Profondo Parfum is release. It has taken over a year for me to finally pull the trigger and purchase it from Sephora.
Stay tune for review.....

yaksha13

Was worried about this being weak, given all of the reviews saying it is weak on here, but mine is a beast. Can smell it the next day!

Perfect fougere fragrance. Smells fresh, elegant and masculine.

chillzz1230

I have a great bottle, but a friend of mine went to Bloomingdale's and bought a bottle that l took a whiff out of it and it was extremely weak. Bottle is legit, but I'm assuming it's reformulated where as mine must be the last of the Mohicans why do they always destroy masterpieces , I mean juuuust why smh. 1 of my all time favorite scents and they destroyed its longevity and sillage. Not the same anymore, what a shame

Zpmghal

its just perfect, don't have any words for him. Just perfect fougere . But i guess i got reformulated version and its so freaking weak, projection 30 minutes and longevity 2-3 hour despite that i moisturized, and it's so close to skin scent even tho i did 6 sprays no one have noticed it. But if you can find old version (not reformulated) buy it without a doubt, however sillage and longevity is awful
overall: 9/10
sillage: 2/10
longevity: 4,5/10
projection 0/10

anth_ny

Smells like money

Derosm

The most elegant perfume ever.

fahgrance

Reminds me of my gay auntie's walk-in closet -- was exploring her house with my cousins when we were all young (have no idea how accurate my memory is, btw). Lately, this just reminds me of my very best friend's favourite "singer".

Sweet and Strong

Opens up as a DIVINE lemon tree, soapy as well. Aromatic, perfect for summer. Dries down into soapy and a bit more floral. Definitely manly, no doubt. For the clean cut man 100%. You cannot wear this with a beard lol I'm joking of course, but it feels true. If the lemon scent stuck around and grew more floral as well, I'd go as far as to say "buy it!" If your a fan of lemon fresh. It's just not there. Gone in 10 minutes. Shame. Might have to check out the other versions of this.

Cloud57

Chanel just raised the price again. A 3.4oz will cost you $130 plus tax. Done with this brand, hope they go bankrupt soon.

Jgough84

Just divine

LordSmellsGood

Dude… STFU ⬇️⬇️⬇️, you get zero 🐱, that’s a guarantee. Man wears the scent, scent doesn’t where the man.. that being said PE is undoubtedly a staple in any solid collection. Chasing down early 2000s bottles if anyone’s interested in trading for entry level niche stuff let’s talk.

MetaNose1

A timeless classic which laid the foundations for A&F Fierce, Legend, and similar lavendar/geranium/oakmoss inspired fragrances. This is the classiest and most elegant of all. The perfect interview/board room meeting fragrance. Goes perfectly with a clean shave and a fresh suit. Smells out of the 90's and yet not dated. Some scents transcend time, and this is one of them. I'll always keep a bottle in my collection and save it for upscale events.

Piggy41510

Wore this beautiful fragrance to church today and this stuff is awesome 🙏🏽 This fragrance will always be in my collection and the sillage and projection are just right!! Not to Strong and not to light. 10/10 for me❤️ thank you Mr Polge for creating this great fragrance 🙏🏽

Rallemakral

This fragrance captivates with its sophisticated blend of fresh and woody notes, making it a timeless choice for the discerning man. Its perfect balance of lavender, rosemary, and vetiver offers a crisp, enduring fragrance ideal for any occasion. Esteemed for its elegance and versatility, it's a testament to Chanel's legacy of crafting luxurious, memorable scents.

vineover

I love the dry down of this fragrance.

the dry down is yummy.

K Safin

Dear Smellybutgood,

Surely there is somewhere more appropriate to write corny, fictitious, farfetched Z-list blue movie scripts.

RhettB27

This is one hell of a fragrance, definitely a fragrance that exudes a classic masculine quality and is truly my type of barbershop scent. It reminds me of another great barbershop scent Thomas Kosmala No1 Tonic Blanc with the utilization of Neroli and oakmoss with bursting citrus and elegant green nuances, such a clean classic gentlemanly fragrance. Testing my older bottle with a batch code of 4701 it says it’s from 2019 but it has the thick black tube on the atomizer and is the brick style bottle. I believe it may be before 2019 so I’d greatly appreciate any information I can get on it if anybody knows, but it smells freaking amazing. The newest formulation definitely has some nice burst and smells great but compared to my bottle it lacks in both performance and smell. With my 4701 the citrus top notes are definitely still in tact as it smells relatively similar off the atomizer but when sprayed on it develops so interestingly and I get nuances not in the newest formula. That very strong sharp bitter green citrus is much more tempered in my bottle as the citrus notes are present but an ambery vetiver facet makes itself present as well to my nose not long after spraying. The mid-base notes have seemingly macerated to perfection, and like I said the performance is so much better in both longevity and projection. Would greatly appreciate any information on my bottle 🙏

Muskyflower

Amazing.
Perfume is simutaneously
cool sharp and metallic,
Soft and floral,
Aromatic and herbaceous,
Bright and uplifting,
Woody and ambery warm,
Slightly sweet.

Rewind a year ago,
My wife's Dad has a fragrance collection,
I decided to investigate his collection.
Out of all his fragrances, this was the one that I fell in love with- this is the one that started an obsession.

Fast forward,
20 something odd perfumes later,
Yet this first love is still absent in my collection. Why? Why? Why?

And the only fragrance in my collection that I do love is Dior homme intense.

Chanel PE, I tested again today at Ulta.
Four sprays total, to the wrist and forearms.
This was 1:30 pm and I can still smell it at 8:08 pm. I dont think longevity is an issue.

I think it is about time I add this to my collection. I have always known deep down that this is how I want to smell

EDIT: just bought from Sephora. Couldn't resist. Such a pleasant and comforting and uplifting scent.

Edit: 4 sprays yesterday from New bottle, 2022 batch, lasted about 5-6 hours (which I believe will improve as the juice ages a bit)....

6 sprays today and couldn't smell it after the first hour. I believe this one is rather easy to go nose blind to. If ur nose is as sensitive as mine, i reccomend no more than 4 sprays.

Smellybutgood

In the mid-2000s, amid my late teenage to early twenties days of clubbing, and the pursuit of meeting gorgeous girls, I stumbled upon a gem at the mall circa 2005 or 2006-- a unique cologne in oil form that you would roll onto your pulse points. The anticipation of wearing it to the club was palpable, and it never failed to make a lasting impression on the ladies.

One night at a bar, I met this extremely gorgeous older woman – the epitome of elegance with red lipstick and manicured french tip nails, embodying the essence of classy and sexy. Our conversation unfolded into a profound statement she made: "As you grow older and more mature, you'll realize this is exactly how you want to smell as a man." Then we left together and I became a freakin man. 🫢🫡

Fast forward to 2016, my return to the fragrance journey as an adult man. A decade-long obsession to find this elusive scent that I first discovered at the mall finally bore fruit in 2022. Spotting the name "Platinum Egoiste" at the fragrance store, an instant recognition set in – this was the one.

When I asked the receptionist to sample spray it, her response carried a knowing smile, and she said to me "You've become a man when you realize this is what you want to smell like." How ironic and fitting.

Platinum Egoiste, a modern fougere masterpiece, that radiates a clean, minimalistic allure – noticeable yet devoid of any overly dramatic character.

This fragrance isn't just a scent; it's a journey – a testament to personal growth and the realization that this is what a man should desire to smell like.

skm50

I'm a lady and smelled this at Sephora, and it immediately brought me back to my days working at the spa. Very fresh herbaceous woody sophisticated scent. They say it's for men, but would it be crazy if I said I wanted to smell like this myself??? I already own Bleu de Chanel and wear it frequently and get a surprising amount of compliments. I also have Allure Homme Blanche edition which is arguably unisex. I particularly like Egoiste Platinum because it doesn't have that pungent overt cologne-like smell. It smells less cologne-like to me than Bleu de Chanel. It's just a masterpiece of exhilarating aromas.

Marcx

As a kid we have a game whenever we’re in a car/long driving holiday. Whenever we go through a tunnel. We would hold our breath… until we emerge on the other side. That feeling of first breath… up the mountain tunnel…through it… that feeling of exhaling inhaling…bottle that.

this is what a chanel man smells like. imo. this is my only chanel i ever bought, not even bleu. the peak 90's chanel. its irresistable. its metalic, its clean. its interesting. its the all around versatile classy guy. who doesnt need to work whos lifestyle is just vibes...private school graduate. relaxed confidence in a bottle. hes not golfing type... hes the sailing type, the ski trip, or summers in south of France type...not attention seeking.. from wearing a basic white shirt to a suit this can work. He got nothing to prove or run after. It’s alluring but also inviting and down to earth but sometimes can be oblivious. Just a happy, content, wholesome scent.

This is what you want to smell daily. Easy. Calm. And Magnetic. It’s like what you want people to feel around you. Like a breath of fresh air… you will literally light up a room. This is what modern masculinity or whatever that means should smell like.

And whoever cares. Got my bottle in 2012

borys

It takes some experience until you find out this is how you want to smell...

Ksj_

This is a very mass appealing introductory scent into fougeres. I personally find it an upgrade from the vintage version of Egoiste.

I think every man should put their nose on this one because it evokes professionalism to the nth degree.

I love this metallic, sharp, barbershop, green, herbal freshness. It's my signature scent, and I am currently going through my third bottle. I wear it at work and it is performing excellent during heat 30°C+. I'd say after 7 hours it is time to reapply but technically, it's still going sitting close to the skin.

Zanerkand

I sprayed this on at 6:00am and can still smell it at 11:00pm; I can't even imagine how excellent the projection has been.

Perfumery of the highest standard. Fresh, soapy, metallic lavender that's expertly blended. No wonder it has such a high rating.

Very masculine and I understand why the words 'old school' and barbershop are used. Neither of these are bad things....and if everything smelled like Savage then our joy in the fragrance community would be diminished.

I wouldn't blind buy this; people used to sweeter fragrances will have to test this first.

Excellent, even if it may not be for everyone.

This smells so incredibly 90s! I love how it transforms on my skin because I tried a spray on my shirt another day and didn't have positive feelings. On skin it lasts beautifully and reveals depth.

AdamHendrix

I remember trying this in Selfridges as a 16 year old back in the mid 90s and having my mind blown. It was like nothing I'd ever smelled before and there was one particular note that just stuck with me. It just had this mild warmth about it that I could constantly smell but never grow tired of.

There was no way I could afford it, but after days of still smelling it on the cuff of my jacket I knew it had to be mine and a very large percentage of my measly part-time wage went on a bottle.

This stuff had INCREDIBLE sillage and longevity without ever being overbearing (for my nose anyway) and for years I wore nothing else until I discovered fresher options like Le Male and Issey Miyake pour homme. Haven't bought a bottle now in years and don't think I will. It's like a long lost love that ended amicably, the memory is such a joy that I would be scared to revisit it and risk having it spoiled. An absolute masterpiece of a fragrance.

ayywolf

This is a hidden gem from Chanel. Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême and Bleu de Chanel are the ones people usually go for. This is truly a masterpiece of a fragrance. It has a barbershop-, almost shaving cream-like scent which is perfect for an elegant man for the daytime.
Light, not sweet at all and the performance in my experience is surprisingly good. It lasts quite a long time and projects well too.
It's definitely a 30+ fragrance or at least 20+, although I don't think you need a suit to wear this, a shirt or a nice knit sweater, even a good quality white t-shirt with some classic jeans or a polo shirt would pair well with this. I think it's all about how much a man values himself that adds elegance and sophistication to this fragrance. It's not bold, but it definitely has that classiness to it that requires a certain level of confidence. In terms of occasion, you can definitely rock this anywhere, any season. I don't think this is as limited as people say it is in its wearability ("suit fragrance for summer").
Very nice fragrance, timeless, masculine, light, elegant and well-preforming.
10/10 in my opinion.

tino9879

It's extraordinary. Deeper than Allure. More elevated than Antaeus.

micholas

Just received this for Christmas. First time I’ve ever owned it and I do love it, but as mentioned the performance is horrendous. Sprayed it on this morning and seemed to have become a skin scent after 20 minutes. I will put it away until the summer and try again in hot weather.. whatever I spray now is a waste of juice.

Maisonap

Oldie but Goldie. Simple but stunningly executed fragrance, a solid summer, fresh, green fragrance, that every man needs in his collection. Crisp white shirt perfume, a good office fragrance

Joizee_HH

Picked this up again after having it back in like 2012. I never wore this in the 90s when it was everywhere. I really enjoyed this last go-around but grew tired of it. Nevertheless it always stood out as one of the scents I’d always come back to. Whenever not knowing what to spray on in a duty free when quickly passing through, I’d always grab this. My wife also likes it and finds it pleasant. I can’t speak to longevity and sillage of the 90s version. Back in 2012 it wasn’t a top performer. The newest bottle I have seems to have some more performance. I am presuming somewhere in between way back when and 2012. Lasts quite long on clothes. You can’t go wrong with this one if you generally like barbershop fragrances. It can work whenever and I don’t think it matters what age you are.

Piggy41510

Just picked this one up at the Chanel boutique in Walnut Creek CA. I don't know how this beautiful fragrance got past me in the 90s? Very classy and mature elegant fragrance which you would expect from a Chanel product. My wife loves it so I purchased platinum egoiste for myself and I picked up coco mademoiselle for my wife. Great service at Chanel and the staff treated my wife and I very well. Happy to add this to my collection and it's a 10/10 for me. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁.

This smells like shaving foam. While I do like it, I don't feel like it's the best thing that I have ever smelled. It's pretty wearable and I don't feel that it smells dated but it has a more mature vibe. This doesn't smell similar to egoiste. I probably prefer egoiste a little more to platinum egoiste but most people would rather be smelling platinum egoiste on you. I get great performance with it. Sillage isn't crazy but it lasts most of the day! I'd like to compare it to the old formulations but I am content with the current formulation on it's own.

nycarty

timeless classic. chanel, never change.

Fragito87

A great scent for office (under shirt I find) as it seeps a clean scent that is mature. I think I first had this when I was 17 years old. However I never had the confidence to wear it, thinking I was perhaps too young, now 17 years later I feel it is perfect. Spray this on straight out of the shower, add a Crisp white poplin shirt and a dark blue or charcoal suit and you are good to go! Utter confidence. Top three scents for me.

Trueblood84

Well it took me awhile including revisiting some classics to get my nose to fully appreciate this modern classic. At first all my nose picked up was soapiness. But after training my nose with such classics as eternity, I picked up all the beautiful nuances that this fragrance has, and began to form an honest opinion on it. Platinum egoiste actually has a similar style to eternity, but it is even more classy and safer. Platinum egoiste tones down some of the sexiness and instead goes a more formal route. I can see myself wearing this during the day to a business meeting, while eternity would now be reserved for drinks after I finish. This stuff is Uber versatile, smells good and lasts all day making for a great daytime wear. 8.5/10

John_Sam

This is an ultra-versatile refined fragrance. Dressed up or dressed down you can wear it anytime.

I have an older rectangular bottle (batch on the bottom says BJ1) with the large atomizer and black collar, a sample decant, and the new version (square bottle). The older version and the sample are mainly orange and musk. There is a bit more floral notes in the older bottle up front and then dries down to orange and musk. It's not an ambrette seed musk its more of an animalic musk. The newer version is much sharper in the opening. Slightly sweet orange, soapy lavender, green herbs, and musk mallow in the base. It's has a lot of layers to it. The newer version is actually much better than the older batches. They all resemble Fierce by Abercrombie and Fitch which I think is due to the petitgrain.

puselabber

Everyone has their own nose and scent-memory. Mine is working at the Chanel counter, having the exclusive line, and a 20% discount on handbags by Chanel. I guess I was a modern girl, because my favourite for women was Chance edt . Never liked mademoiselle. For men, my favourite was Cuis de Russie. And second fav Gentlemanw was Egoist Platinum 🫶 then we had Les Exclusif. I loved no 19 and Cristalle. Then we had no 22 and Gardenia. The two last ones were not my fav. This was mid 2000.

NikosN

Probably the best fresh masculine fragrance. You can use it all year around. The master perfumer made something fresh and woody with a tiny amount of sweetness. This creation is still in production because men love this. Also I think that the perfumer took the main character of Calvin Klein Eternity and managed to create something fresh without citrus! Eternity (1990) is jeans and t shirt. Platinum Egoiste (1993) is suit and tie. But, you can wear whatever you like. Platinum Egoiste will serve you real good. I use it even to the beach. Lavender, flowers, small amount of herbs, wood. The result is magnificent. Sillage, longevity excellent for this character of perfume. Please ladies stay away from this. It belongs to us. lol. After all, you can smell it on us...

Fragapp23

Mature, business like fragrance this one. Spray it on before heading into the office and feel ready to take on the world. Performance is average.

As I ziptied Saddam Hussein's hands behind his back, I noticed how gorgeous he smelled. For a man who had been living in a hole stocked with hard-core pornography and Cocoa Pebbles, his aroma was downright classy.

In the ensuing months, I befriended the downtrodden dictator as my unit helped guard his covert prison cell. Yes, Saddam was responsible for various international atrocities, but he also made me giggle with his Porky Pig impression. We bonded over tiddlywinks and soda pop, our mutual love of history and Backstreet Boys music bridging the cultural divide.

One day, I mustered the courage to ask Saddam how he had smelled so good despite his subterranean living quarters. He smiled and reached into his back pocket -- technically his bumhole since he wasn't allowed pockets. Out popped a slimy 30 ml bottle of "Egoiste Platinum." "This," he laughed, sharing one of his few English words. His face softened as he extended the bottle to me. A wartime gift. Thank you, my friend.

Two decades later, that bottle of "Egoiste Platinum" occupies a special place on my mantle. I occasionally spray it on knowing that I will smell good -- SadDAM good!

xyzzo

Freezing-death in a bottle! Super fresh, fougére-type with a strong, metallic edge. Both airy and cool aquatic. When I've met first with it at late '90-s I thought inmediately: " ..oooh, this is just like a mix of Cool Water and Drakkar Noir! .." And I think that 'til nowadays. But it's no problem to me. Platinum is one of my top favourite. Elegant, timeless, manly freshness. Masterpiece of Mr. Polge.

MaxRenn

Put simply, If I was only allowed to own one fragrance....this would be it!!

Gbogzy

My brother introduced me to this and I immediately fell in love with it. Nothing offensive about it. Each time I use it, reminds me of a mature, wealthy businessman. Will I buy it again? YES!

Egoiste Platinum Chane

One of the best smelling classic barbershop scent around. If you want something similar you can look at MM At The Barber. The scent isn't loud nor pronounced but is for the wearer to enjoy most of the time but still smells so good

Carrolllaw

I wore the original Egoiste in the early 90’s, back when I only owned two or three fragrances at a time, and only replaced them when I used up the bottle. I rarely bought the same fragrance twice — always wanting to try something new. When I got bitten by the fragrance bug three years ago or so, I came across Platinum and fell in love with it. For me, it is one of those scents that instantly improves my mood. I have to put it in my top favorites list. When I’m throwing a suit on, and want to impress, with no risk of offending or overpowering a room, this is one of my go-tos. Clean, fresh and invigorating. Absolutely love it!

Ryahya

I have to say this perfume really grew on me, tried this on chanel boutique but I didn"t like it at first, later i found my workmate was gifted this perfume & I persuaded him to sell it to me, so I got it on a fairly good price.

I have the old bottle so I reckon the scent is this what its supposed to be, its a herbal green aromatic to my nose, sillage is low but the scent just keep coming back to me, performance is very good for this kind of scent, last 6-7 hours on my skin.

now its just sitting on my work desk & I tell you I just cant get enough of sniffing it, I find myself trying to sniif it every once in a while.

am2000

‘Some may find it too old-fashioned’ get a grip mate, I’m 22 born in 2000 and this smells like pure shaving foam, lavender lush, it’s timeless it will never be ‘old-fashioned’ I love it and will continue to wear it, it’s not mature or youthful if you’re a male, women will love to smell it on you, pure fresh clean shaven barbershop style, love it

Mr. Chris

I try to avoid crying about reformulations, I understand it’s common and unavoidable and just part of the industry but seriously WTF happened to this scent? I mean it’s barely recognizable anymore.
I have a vintage bottle of this I bought a few years ago with the old bottle design where the cap is the same width of the bottle. I pop into Sephora from time to time to just get my nose on random scents, some new ones I haven’t smelled yet and or some old classic go to’s just to see if they’ve changed at all. I stopped in the other day and sprayed this on one arm and Allure Homme on the other. Allure Homme was fine still but this has turned into a disaster. The last time I tried this from the tester in store was about a year and a half ago and it was fine then but now!??? It’s SO powdery now and the performance which wasn’t exactly great before is a lot worse now, seriously like one hour projection and gone after three.
It used to have a sort of metallic aromatic barbershop scent and now it’s just a powdery mess. The powder is so dominant I can’t even pick out any of the other notes. So very sad and disappointing this scent isn’t even recognizable anymore. I will truly mourn the loss of this once great fragrance. Might as well discontinue this because it’s not even close to what it was, shame on Chanel.

manila_nose

I bought this one after sampling other popular lavender based fragrances. TF BdJ is a lavender infused oakmoss bomb (which, to me, smells as if someone is trying to cover their BO with perfume). MMM At the Barber’s smells beautiful, but too sweet and doesn’t last long.

This one does not last long, as well. Maybe 1-2 hours before becoming skin scent. But it’s slightly cheaper where I’m at, and smells like a gentleman’s perfume. A true classic. One of my absolute favorites at the moment.

DichterundDenker

I love Chanel's Egoiste. I like a lot of Chanel fragrances. I also love metallic scents like Pegasus by Parfums de Marly.

But Egoiste Platinum is a screaming, very unpleasant perfume. My skin chemistry is going crazy with this scent. If you are used to a lot of scents and want to buy Platinum blind, please don't do it! It must be tested!

Ovamka

What the hell happened just now? Just purchased a bottle without trying out this most recent version of Egoiste Platinum.

They have taken out all of the platinum...and replaced it with aluminium.

TheMoThatKnows

I mentioned in another review that Antaeus is my favourite Chanel apart from No. 5, and that is true.

But Platinum Egoiste is not far behind. I love the metallic notes in this one. It’s brilliant!

So many men go to the Chanel counter to purchase Bleu, and leave this beauty behind. What a pity.

delancy

Recently finished my bottle, and I miss it already. I've tried the best clone (Armaf Legesi). Look, it's "okayish" for the cheap price point, but man, nothing can beat the OG.

@httrung32 summed it up perfectly below: This is Paul Allen's fragrance. He has a better apartment, a better haircut, a better business card, a better fragrance, and he dines at Dorsia whenever he wants.

And I'll add further to that notion that this is the fragrance Patrick Bateman WISHES he knew about. You see a modern day Patrick Bateman would be wearing a current-day, trending blue ambroxan bomb as to quote his own words in the movie "because I want to fit in".

Seriously, if you're a guy and you have your shit together (and you want to smell like that), this is the one. Do yourself a favor, throw out all of those sickly sweet, blue ambroxan bombs and noxious fruity sweet "male" car crash fragrances that make you smell like her ex-boyfriend or just another generic male. Buy a bottle of this masculine juice and thank me later.

This is not a fragrance for try-hards or for people who have to peacock or like to use the word "alpha". This is for guys who already know they are at the top of the food chain and don't have to prove themselves to anyone or compare themselves to other people.

This smells like wealth, success, confidence, clarity, assuredness, and effortless masculinity.

This doesn't smell dated, it smells classic and timeless.

Leave Bleu De Chanel to the generic guys who get their fragrance recs from TikTok and Insta reels and who buy whatever "top 5 best male fragrance" video lists are trending.

This right here is the Chanel you are looking for.

MidwestMadMan

Just wow! I have no other fragrance like this. It’s unique and pleasant as f&*@!. Absolutely beautiful composition. Bought on the blind. This is now one of my 20 signature scents.

TRmen

Just perfect. I think it is the best in the Chanel line even better than Bleu de Chanel. This is very dressed well, a man with suits after taking a shower and shaving. Every man needs that scent for his daily life and this is the best office man fragrance for me. However, it is a bit mature fragrance so if you'r below 30's then it is not suits you if you'r not wearing very formal outfit though...

Simon-Alexis

For me, who's not very enthusiastic about men's fragrances, this perfume is one of the exceptions! Despite the name "Égoïste", it's not at all overpowering in a masculine way: while noble, it really comforts me with its aromatic scent.

WeezyPipes

No sweetness, no fruit, no spice - just a clean, cold workhorse of a fragrance. Smells like business. A staple.

Josh Andsome Handsome

This is the only Chanel you need in your collection in my humble opinion. It has a timeless quality to it that I find suits pretty much any occasion you could think of. There's a reason it's been around for thirty years, it just gets the job done.

Sodaron

Love to read the reviews on this OG. This was actually one of the first scents I had as a young boy. Probably shoes that were a bit big for me. Kept it and during my early 20s girls loved it. To me it smells extremely masculine, straightforward, green, metallic - nothing sweet here. A scent, I had almost forgotten about over the last years getting all sucked up into the mass appealing ADG, Eros etc. - either sweet or citrusy fresh. Then I came across this one again - boom. This is unapologetically steel - a brutal, classsic scent (just like egoiste but not so weird) that sends many newcomers to sleep.

m74rk

Still love it, but I just received a new bottle today and I just don’t remember it being this powdery. In fact, I don’t remember it being powdery at all! Does anyone notice this too?

razorsedge

This is an absolute men's classic - green, bold, refreshing. Very confident, daring even, but still classy. Gentlemanly and suit+tie base, with a daring, and youthful top.

Egoiste Platinum opens fresh, to me similarly Versace Pour Homme - the resemblance is uncanny. Following by strong Lavender and Green herbal notes. The combination adds a bit of spicyness and a sparkly, metallic "peppery" feel to it.

But the drydown is where it's really at. It's thick, smoky, woody. The Oakmoss is big and adds to the classyness and the cold feel, so it's appropriate even for hot weather. Real Fougere material.

Great scent.

camphor_lover

I like it! It’s herbaceous in a very clean fresh way, it’s classy but with a younger vibe. If I was a male teacher in my early 30s I would wear this and all the old admin ladies would be sooooo nice to me.

Edit: I tried it again and although the opening I described above is still true, it does dry down to something too cologney for my taste.

llyam21

Incredible. Nothing else needs to be said.

enro

I have a bottle I bought in 2020. Smells divine.

Stopped by Macy’s and I was curious to see what the current bottles were like. I tried four sprays on my arm. Right off the bat, it was an obvious watered down version of my 2020 bottle. Some of the notes appear to be missing as well.

Unless this tester was defective in some way, it seems Chanel has destroyed another of their masculine classics (Pour Monsieur, Antaeus).

I don't get it. How much can watering down a fragrance and removing certain notes really add to their profit margins?

Towels

This is THE stuff. If you're looking for it, you know what I'm talking about. You want to smell like a real man? This is it. Pure class in a bottle. It's a more mature vibe but could be pulled off by anyone who looks and acts the part.

Doesn't last that long and projection is just okay. But I think it's kind of a plus because sometimes you don't want to smell like you're soaked in cologne. It's a more subtle, pleasant, classy thing.

EDIT: I received confirmation from Chanel that this fragrance has no animal derived ingredients.

Unmodernize

This is a 10/10 and the kind of smell I truly enjoy.

Masculine fresh and green and decent longevity, for me that’s all that is needed.

This (93) is a product of its era - juxtapositioned to the modern candy sweet frags for men (2010-today) that 90 % or more current releases subscribe to.

Now I would love a modern version of these PE and ADG frags. It’s time, come on..

anoncan

ChillScent

Chanel had not expanded Male fragrances since the flop of Egoiste. Egoiste Platinum OG will be the history of Fougere perfumery.
Basically, I find that Fougere is much relied on quality of ingredients and some banned other material to give the depth and multi-facets.
1st version is marvelous (Egoiste Platinum - splash square bottle) - stunning version with big herbal, metallic vibe.
2nd reformulation (Platinum Egoiste - Tall bottle) - Very impressive, but the base is a bit thinner in comparison to the OG ( You will see it great quality, as if you never sniff the OG)
3rd reformulation (Platinum Egoiste - the same bottle as the OG with sprayer) - It's more office friendly, soapier. It's still nice, but lack the soul.
Everyone has a reference point until they meet the real OG.

Jwebb79

I love this, from first sniff in the shop, to bringing home a scent card and sniffing all day, told my wife I was gonna get it and she bought it for me..
Fresh smelling, clean out the shower scent, aromatic, maybe slightly herby to my nose..
Can maybe tell it has a 90s vibe, but still modern smelling in my opinion and quite versatile..
I'd ultimately say spring, summer daytime wear, but wouldn't be out of place in the evening, I think you could easily wear in autumn too.
Very classy fragrance, has decent sillage for the first 2 - 3 hours or so and continues to project after for the next hour or two, and after that it still lasts well on my skin, probably a total of 7-9 hrs..
Love this fragrance so much.

jsk03

This fragrance may not be suitable for everyone, hence it is advisable not to make a purchase without careful consideration. Its reaction varies depending on individual skin types. Initially, Lavender and Petitgrain notes are obvious for the first three hours, followed by the emergence of Sage and Jasmine. Personally, I also detect the presence of Tuberose in the middle phase. After approximately 7-8 hours, a Mossy Sandalwood note becomes apparent, and upon sniffing the skin, a hint of Vertier can be smelled.

In general, I love this fragrance. It exhibits remarkable versatility, boasting excellent projection and decent longevity. I highly recommend experiencing it at least once.

mihuco1217

Went to a department store to look for something niche, but I ended up buying this instead . I was surprised by how this scent fits my personal taste. Very fresh and aromatic. I don’t care if some consider this an old man scent. This, to me, was love at first sniff.

httrung32

This fragrance is not Patrick Bateman's scent, as some articles or reviews suggested. He did not use Chanel Platinum Egoïste in the movie, and I doubt any antagonists would like or use anything from Chanel. To me, this is more of Paul Allen's scent, who is charming, unbothered and confident. He is focused on himself and his success, and he does not care about the beta male wannabes who were obsessively envious of him. And who can blame them? He has a better apartment, a better haircut, a better fragrance, and he dined at Dorsia. Platinum Egoïste was a turn-off for me at first, with its sharp and clean neroli opening, and slightly herbal rosemary. It gives a feeling of super masculinity, but also extreme cleanliness, classiness and indifference. The dry-down after 20-30 minutes is more beautiful, with lavender, oakmoss and woody notes. It becomes more pleasant, refined and seductive in a menly way. I hated this fragrance at first, but I admit I was dead wrong. It has all the nuances and changes of a typical Chanel fragrance, and I fell in love with it on my first full journey. However, this is a fragrance I choose for days when I feel confident and cocky, when I do not hesitate to make eye contact and have tremendous energy in myself. It is not for days when I feel insecure and have to wear sunglasses to hide my eyes. To me and probably many people, It is definitely one of the best offerings from Chanel, with strong to moderate projection and very long-lasting for an EDT. And, It is a must-have for every young confident modern man!

WhiteFlowerPrincess

This is a very sexy and masculine cologne that I think would smell really good on almost any man and it certainly would help attract me to a guy. It smells clean, slightly botanical and it has a hint of floral in the heart notes. I can smell the clary sage, which gives it that herbaceous quality. I can also smell the bitter green smell from the galbanum, the minty camphorousness from the rosemary and a touch of spicy floracy from the geranium.

Platinum Egoïste by Chanel is a very well-blended fragrance for men and I think that it smells like it has very good quality ingredients in this cologne. It also lasted on my boyfriend for a good 7 hours and it projected at about arm's length on him.

I think it smells wonderful and incredibly sophisticated and classy. I could imagine this fragrance being worn to the gentleman's club or to a rustic chic bar by a man wearing head to toe Ralph Lauren Collection. Two thumbs up and an 8.5 out of 10 from me!

dayonee

I think everyone should try this at least once in their lifetime. Timeless, sophisticated and classy scent. Leans a little more toward as a warmer weather and daytime scent but you can basically wear it anytime, anywhere. IMO anyone can wear this (I've worn this since I was 15) Can't go wrong with it. JUST THAT GOOD.

Been my signature scent for 27 years and over time, the scent has changed with re-formulation; the OG bottle (where the cap and the bottle was the same width) used to be slightly sweeter and smoother, now it is a bit more "green scratchy" in the opening. Ran out of this juice 6 months ago, decided to switch things up and still searching for a new signature scent, but I have a feeling I'll be coming back to this again. MASTERPIECE.

EDIT:
Yup. Got another bottle. Brings back memories. Nostalgia overload. Feels like home. With that being said, as mentioned above, reformulation has killed this great perfume. Still great, but now, it is a shell of what it used to be. This literally hurts me.

FragZappa

This is beautiful stuff. Sometimes I get sick of trying to smell all niche and enigmatic. Sometimes I just want to smell plain old good. This does that job exceptionally well.

Bagheera

What can I say about this fragrance? It's simply my number one fragrance of all time. Used to wear it so much in my youth, that it gives me good memories and nostalgias. It's barbershop, but not dated, yet a timeless 90's vibe barbershop. It's so nice close to the skin, even nicer in the air. Clean, elegant, masculine... The smell of a successful, well groomed and well put together man, literally. Dressed up or dressed down, formal or casual, any season, any weather, any mood, any clothing style: this gem will never disappoint you. If I had to keep only one fragrance for the rest of my life, I would never dare to think twice.

Do I recommend a blind buy? No, cause it might not give the same effect to the majority of the younger generations. But it's almost an obligation to try it, or you might be missing out one of the best fragrances your nose will smell.

PS: My current bottle is from 2011, I haven't tried the new formulation yet, but even if it lacks in performance or smell, this gem will never leave my collection, because I know not one single fragrance can take it's place in my book. Thank you, Mr. Jacques Polge!

timeless and classy.

my favorite barbershop fragrance, scent is likeable and masculine.
it has been copied recently by the likes of Bois Imperial and Ganymede, so it's not very unique anymore, I still like it better than the two mentioned.
performance is excellent.

Fabean

I went to a Chanel boutique to smell BDC parfum and PE was placed next to it. The name sounded nice and the bottle looked cool so I got a test strip with BDC parfum and PE. When I smelled BDC parfum it was what I expected as i’ve smelled the other BDC perfumes but I was really liking PE. I love lavender and PE was exactly what I like. On my way home, I barely smelled BDC parfum but PE was projecting pretty well in the car. It doesn’t last like BDC parfum but the projection is better. Its got great versatility too thanks to it's lightness. I know it's been reformulated quite a bit but I hope they don't discontinue it cause it's a classic and it still smells really good and performs really well on me. I would love to have it in my collection for a long time.

FragBags

A fresh haircut, a clean shave, and a couple sprays of Platinum has been proven to cure depression.

fragrantlyenhanced

one of my all time fav designer frags

its is versatile, cold weather warm weather. it smells fresh, green, airy, uplifting and barbershop like. lovely lavender, neroli rosemary blast in the opening. the green herbal touch persist even in the dry down. it has this very unique metallic note to it that makes it feel sharp and ''cold''. idk how they achieved that prob smth with the way they blended the cedars and geranium especially in colder weather you notice it a lot more. its not harsh smelling at all. this is channel we are talking about. its really intoxicating even after a long time wearing it i never got bored of it. in warm weathers the unique fresh and clean barbershop vibe is noticed the most. but it doesn't smell dated or old man like just mature. very modern and undoubtedly masculine. out of most of the chanel line this one lasts well above average. ive had people tell me they smelled it across the room but i was generously spraying it haha. it's inoffensive but still strong. many compliments. been thru 2 bottles already and i will definitely get a third. the price + performance + wearability along with the unique complex scent profile makes this an all time favorite signature that will stay in my collection forever.

XOXO_marcel

It's fresh, and at the same time it reminds me of gingerbread. I like it a lot. A bit expensive for what it is, but I'd recommend giving it a try.

Not particularly sexy. Good for office wear.

Fresh, masculine and innofensive. This is a great and versatile cologne which can be used for any occasion. Apparently this is what Biggie used to wear

Perfumery at its very best, clean, refined, masculine and dry. a purely timeless masterpiece that fits nearly every personality and age.

DomfromBE

@AndyWarholsFavoriteWig This was the answer to the market who didn't welcome the "real" Egoïste the proper way back in the 90es. But it already was uninspired and boring.

Maynard_James_Krawczyk

One of my most beloved perfumes. It has that cold lavender vibe. If only it have a better longevity.

JonnyBadass

A classic fresh out of the shower fougere, with a bit of warm woods and amber in the base that keep it from smelling too mature/old school. Quality lavender in the opening gives a burst of soapy freshness, a soft and sweet musk from clary sage mingles perfectly with florals and a bitter green note from galbanum. A clean sandlewood in the base lends sophisticated smoothness alongside the warming cedar and amber. This is a timeless masterpiece in my opinion.

Sam Diaz

A perfect masculine scent for the working professional. To me it’s a perfect blend of an old school barbershop scent mixed with a modern day business casual appeal. Perfect for the office, but really could be suited for any occasion. This is what I imagine a CEO would wear daily. Longevity and sillage are nice. Not too over powering but not underwhelming either. Every white collar working man should own a bottle of this.

egghead1280

I have worn this more than anything else I own and I am not sure there's a close second. Highly versatile and elegantly masculine. If you made me choose just one scent to wear for the rest of my life, it would likely be this one. It can be worn to the office, on a day out and about, chilling at home, and to the bars. I prefer it in the summer but it will work just fine in other seasons too. It is a fresh green scent that keeps itself grounded through the woody base notes. Pleasant, inviting, and quietly confident; it just meshes very well with the parts of me I like to portray. I have received countless compliments from anyone that has gotten close enough to my body space get a good whiff. It won't blow you away with its sillage and will never be the loudest voice in the room, but it doesn't really need to be and it doesn't want to be. An unassuming masterpiece.

OldFragMan

Joefrag below is right. Smells great on the right person but on the wrong one (like me) it’s a stinking mess. Body chemistry is real. My wife actually asked me to never wear PE again. Gave it to my brother who loves it and oddly enough it smells great on him.

Out of respect for this classic I will not rate it and for the fact that it’s smells incredible on someone with the right chemistry.

CanadianSmells

No nonsense clean, green, soapy MANLY scent. Absolute office banger. Timeless in my opinion (26yo), but some people find the scent profile outdated.

Great versatility, and actually surprising performance (on skin). I get wiffs of this 6-7 hours after application. Chanel quality is obvious. Do not sniff up close as it is intense, the magic in this scent is the bubble/ sillage.

Most similar to Montblanc Legend EDP to my nose.

Overall: 8.3/10. Personnally love this, but not a mass appealing scent in my experience.

vit_r

Reminds me of Gillette shaving gel.

smellyoul8ter

On the right person or to another person’s nose, this is a clean, soapy floral green with herbs and a slight touch of woods. The fragrance of a timeless, classic gentleman. On my skin and to my nose, this is clean on the verge of sterile. A floral house cleaner that’s hiding it’s bleach really well. And, man, there’s some combination in that dry down that makes me think of hot fresh urine. Like a sample you’d put in the small door at your doctor’s office. I guess it’s the herbal notes trying to mix with the sandalwood and amber? Anyways… sample first and decide which group you might fall into.

iLikeExpensiveSmellyWater

Extremely similar to Percival. Very clean, elegant, refined. Not necessarily a head turner but gives the aura of being confident and well put together. Versatility is off the charts, can truly be a 4 season fragrance. Classic but not at all dated in 2023 and I believe pretty much any age can pull this off.

Krisena

It's good, high quality. I do not love it however, but that's just a taste thing.

newbie-in-frag(ame)

In warm weather, the floral notes jump out, with a soapy quality all-over. In cold weather, a razor-sharp blade that cuts through the thick air telling those around who has arrived.

Raul Claudiu

This is such a classic, refined, gentleman’s fragrance. Super versatile. It s very light&airy but completely masculine. My dad has an old empty bottle(bought in the 90’s) which smells even better, the metallic note is stronger.Opens up similar to Creed GIT,but then loses the similarity,in the late stages of the dry down this is woody, metallic with a touch of sweetness. More suitable for someone 30+

Andromedabee

My husband's signature, one of my favorite smells in the world. Clean and fresh and put-together. I borrow it on days I need a certain kind of macho confidence but definitely wouldn't call it a unisex fragrance - it's lavender shaving cream, it's opening a door for a stranger with a polite nod, it's kissing in a movie theater. 10/10

MrAbbas

Herbal fresh scent. Smells like a well put togther gentleman that is classically well dresses. Doesn't smell dated but its has this coriander like smell somehow to me nose. I like it but nothing that blew me away. Its just nice.

don00

too grassy for me, bois imperial much much nicer as a fresh everyday scent

Roman86

This is pleasant but the main problem is it's way too light. I have the zippo lighter bottle of Paco Rabanne XS that is more potent and has a similar scent profile. Legasi Homme by Armaf is supposedly also similar and lasts longer than Platinum Egoiste. Platinum Egoiste really is a pleasant fragrance but I just wish it was stronger so that's why I'm sticking with the alternative versions which are much more affordable.

SupermanEcstacy

I don't care what anyone says about this (negative). This is my second review of this and it's such a glorious fragrance. I'm 26 and no you don't have to be 50 to wear this. It just screams 'MAN'. It's an all year fragrance, such a clean and professional scent. To me, I really get more than a full days wear on this lasting 10+ hours. This stuff won't attract girls, but it'll attract wife material xD

DapperDon

I absolutely love how clean PE is. A 90’s fragrance that isn’t dated at all. Timeless & charming. It’s crisp, metallic lavender, herbs & soapy neroli dominant. My only gripe is that it’s very sharp due to its floral notes & if over sprayed will smell like straight up white bar soap.

As I type this, I’m regretting selling my bottle, but I was planning on purchasing PE little brother- At The Barbers, which has a very very similar smell IMO less sharp & more pleasing. Neither smell like barbershops, just freshly showered w/ shaving foam vibe. Now Invasion Barbare- that’s a barbershop frag for sure!

FastoJetso

Elegant and classy, Chanel is a master at creating well-blended fragrances. The scent is very clean and refreshing, with a slight citrusy edge from the Neroli. Overall gorgeous, and will be used extensively during the upcoming spring and summer months.

MKnocker

Being a big fan of barbershop fougeres I blind bought this expecting it to compete with my MMM At the Barbers and Creed Himalaya. During my first wear I realized that while this does fit into that family, it’s also…MORE. This is the most versatile perfume in my collection. I love it around the house on a Sunday afternoon. I love it at the office during a busy workday. I love it at the black tie company Christmas party wearing a tux. It is pure class. Totally inoffensive and clean but with a sexiness and maturity to it also. It’s the epitome of “damn you smell good” compliments.

I’m very sympathetic for those who struggle with skin chemistry and this fragrance. I guess I’m one of the lucky ones. This is top 5 in my collection right alongside Aventus Cologne, Green Irish Tweed, Sedley, and Himalaya. It is niche quality for a designer price. To me it’s the best Chanel offers and I’m a fan of BDC and AHSEE.

Sloth

@JoeFrag, I’m the exact opposite of you with this frag.
You are most fortunate, as it turns to a bitter and fusty mess on my skin.

LanaDelSlay

I tried to stay away from this because it's for men but I can't. You spray it and it's a blast of woods to me then the rosemary and sage etc makes it aromatic, fresh, i think the lavender in it and vetiver makes it darker so then we associate it as a male scent. but i love a scent sometimes that's not soft, but truly imposing, saying i'm here and i'm not insecure or scared to be looked at or observed. and I love that. also the bottle is so damn classy and chic

Bob Cage

It and it’s big brother are timeless giants. Chanel doesn’t need to push out more mens fragrances. With only 4 “designer” fragrances chanel still manages to hold a top 3 spot in men’s fragrance.

imranhirani007

The Chernobyl tv series of fragrances!

ōyiss

@pusiaque - “ ... I found something old, created in 1993”

How dare you haha! As someone born in 1993 I feel personally attacked!

In all seriousness, I love this fragrance and I’m thinking about buying myself a bottle for my birthday this year. Tbh, I want it for the nostalgia. When I smell this I remember early mornings during the 90s, saying goodbye to my dad as he leaves to goto work in a suit. I don’t think that he wore this specifically, but I love the clean professional vibe of this fragrance so much that I chased scents just like this for most of my life.

Guest2563

One of the best office fragrance ever. Patrick Bateman should wear this when he not out chainsawing people.

Eibextario

I love "barbershop" fougeres and this is probably the best one out there. The barbershoppiest barbershop with the most experienced barber and all the traditional tools, sharpened and stropped after each customer. Nothing comes close to the experience. The mix of shampoo, shaving cream and moisturizer of the highest quality will leave you smelling good after each visit, although not for long.

That's the only downside of this stuff. Doesn't last long enough. Doesn't mean it doesn't perform, but compared to something like the original Egoiste, which lasts the entire day, this stuff is a more fleeting experience. Somewhere between 4-7 hours, I'd say, with moderate projection during the first two. The good morning office fragrance for the well-groomed gentleman, but you should reapply before a meeting.

Don't bother with the clones. I tried. They suck.

Trishaaa

Definitely a freshie, it amps up the aromatics a fair bit here which makes it very interesting and certainly enjoyable for me. I also got the woody notes but they were easier to spot once the dry down settled in. I also really love that even though there is oak moss, it's not the kind that overpowers the scent and is actually quite hidden compared to the rest of the aromatics in here. As of someone who personally doesn't like oak moss all that much, I enjoyed that aspect a lot. It lasts a moderate amount of time to me, nothing too weak or strong. Good scent.

waff13cak3

Currently my dumb reach fragrance. It is very metallic and pleasant smelling. Can work pretty much all year, but I would only wear it during the day. I sometimes layer a bit of Green Irish Tweed on top of it and that combination is amazing.

CoachSutton

Modern day classic. Fresh, metallic, soapy. One of the best office scents ever. Very professional smelling scent. Around 7 hrs longevity.

Fortyfree

Cool and refreshing aromatic scent with a nod towards "barbershop" fragrances.

It opens fresh and bracing, citrus notes, mainly lemon alongside a phantom "minty" aroma.

As it warms up it becomes more herbal and the lavender starts to take centre-stage.

Remains fairly sweet throughout, maybe some fruity hints, a touch of anise and a sprinkling of pepper here and there. Base remains green and aromatic, lavender hangs around too.

A great scent for mature guys in spring and summer.

It's a very wearable fragrance however it does hark back to certain 90's cologne's/aftershaves.

It's Office safe. Great for formal occasions.

Performance is good.

Insideno5!

This is the fragrance that got my nose to appreciate more versatile fragrances.
Spicey oriental leathery fragrance and a compliment getter for nostalgic purposes may buy again .
Old but gold.
Another very under rated fragrance

skaccomatto

It's kinda difficult to add more to the reviews below, especially for a masterpiece such as this one.

Platinum Egoiste is the epithome of a gentleman perfume - it's sofisticated but easy to wear; it's clean but not soapy; it's sharp but not piercing. In a sea of obnoxiously loud fragrance, Platinum Egoiste still makes itself noticeable, with it's abstract green opening (though lavender is fairly noticeable) that many describe as metallic. It's indeed cold and has some metallic aspect, but don't mistake it for the modern metallic interpretation (think of sclarene, Hermes H24) - it is still very much into the realm of sensation rather than an attempt to create a metal smell/note.

In Platinum Egoiste there is a very noticeable floral undertone; some breakdowns report jasmine, some others not, but I think it really has some jasmine in it, and the geranium/jasmine combo is particularly prominent in this bouquet; dualism again - greener the geranium, sweeter the jasmine, but you need to look (well, smell) for it in the breakdown to pick up what gives the fragrance that subtle sweetness that counterpoints the overall green tone.

This ambivalence persists into the drydown - accords transition one into the other so smoothly you won't easily realise the fragrance changes slightly over time - where woods and oakmoss really bring back the clean, sharp abstract green opening, in a slighly less metallic and darker way.

Don't get entangled in the endless discussions about reformulations - the current version is still relevant and good as the old ones. If you want something clean, office safe, good smelling, bright, sofisticated and understated, this is a must-have. Very strong love (probably the first fragrance I fell in love with, together with Drakkar Noir). The bottle is a timeless classic now; my 50ml bottle is from August 2022 (batch code 7902). Get it.

ColMcr78

I tested this for the first time today.
Very masculine clean and fresh smelling.I agree it has similarities to PMD Percival.
It is Pleasant but to me it smells dated.Very 1990s vibe and nowadays I
would not buy it for myself.
I imagine an older 50+ professional gent wearing this and I feel that this is who it could suit.

MarkZero

If there is a top of perfumery, a class top... this beautiful Monsieur Polge would be top 3 always (so far) It's a masterpiece!
After owning more than 58 perfumes (at the same time) I came to the sane conclusion that I only need 3-5 of them and CHANEL Platinum Egoiste is a timeless class act!

I love it and wish that Chanel would make a more concentrated, powerful version of it so we can wipe that Sauvage smiles hahaha

Anton Constantinou

Wears cold and metallic like a fresh shave with a straight razor. Bright and herbal. Evocative of a smartly dressed man in a big city. Very ‘90s smelling. Sublime.

pusiaque

I was looking for something new on Fragrantica, something fresh but highly masculine and... I found something old, created in 1993. I tried once at a perfumery one month ago (got high compliments from my wife) and I found it under Christmas tree :) This is a superb fragrance. I am not surprised that it has been produced for so many years. It is not out of date absolutely. From Chanel, already tried Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme and Bleu de Chanel Parfum. These fragrances are just very good quality that are better of slightly worse than similars. Egoiste Platinum has something what makes it unique and perfect in its class. I do not need a suit to feel I wear a suit with Egoiste Platinum. Performance is good enough. It will be my successor of all Armani Aqua di Gio flankers.

LanaDelSlay

Tbh this smells so good, I'm bummed that it smells so masculine, like pure masculinity, because I'd wear this 100%. It's pure wood, so damn beautiful, seriously you need to try it. It screams luxury and expensive, and class to me

BigLongNose

Sour and metallic. Smells very similar to Green Irish Tweed in the opening. And smells like more up class version of fitch fierce, montblanc legend and percival

Rastaak

I really wanted to buy this perfume, but unfortunately I didn't succeed! Here, converting my national currency to Euro is very expensive. But I hope I will be able to buy this perfume in the future. I think that this is my signature and identity!!

TinnTinn

Got it as a gift first then give it to others too because it's actually good every day use perfume (IMO)
The scent is luxurious and polite musculine.

GodlySmellingGod

At first I hated it, then I liked it, and now.... I'm in love. Didn't know how my views on a fragrance can change so quickly, I first smelt this when I first started collecting half a year ago, in just a span of 6 months, not only has my taste changed drastically, but I'm starting to actually enjoy the art behind fragrances, and this is simply a masterpiece. It's sharp, fresh, and extremely rich in depth. Even though I'm only 22, this fragrance is truly something else, p.s you don't have to be 30 or older to rock this, just be confident, or let the fragrance give you the confidence, either way, its a great fragrance all around.

lmnsvgz

One of the most refined men fragrances. It smells like a 35 year old businessman. It's giving Patrick Bateman. It's clean yet masculine and prominent. A well-balanced scent that is timeless.

Vikingtop

Very clean smelling, well crafted scent similar to Gilette Shaving soap!

TravisS27

This is the first fragrance I ever got, it started my fragrance journey. Platinum egoiste will always have a special place for me and will always be in my rotation!

Saltychipdust

This smells like a spicier version of Percival.

mostafa385

Nice classic fougere with metallic notes. Smells classy & elegant. Longevity is ok 7/8 hours & projection is strong for 1 Hr & then it sits closer to you. Performance is moderate & doesn’t leave a big scent trail behind. Office safe & could be worn anytime as it very easy to wear.
I have 100ml bottle that’ll last me for years. I will not buy a backup bottle but I may re-purchase after I finish my bottle.

markactor

Very close to Creed GIT. Better price.

mohamedabdelreheim

Dumb reach and versatile. Fresh crispy airy barbershop. Love this stuff. Smell like Biggie and go get this.

OperatorDirge

This fragrance, alongside Dior's Eau Sauvage Parfum 2017, made me reevaluate my opinion on aromatic fougeres. I now have a strong appreciation for these more traditionally masculine barbershop fragrances. Platinum Egoiste is bright, clean, sharp, ethereal, and classy. I've heard people describe this as "The CEO Scent", and I can definitely see why. This is professionalism in a bottle. It smells like a light, creamy, metallic aftershave, and a freshly pressed suit.

Because of how light and airy it is, it's probably better for spring and summer. The cold might overpower it, so something a bit denser (like the aforementioned Eau Sauvage Parfum) would work better for fall and winter. Though to be fair, if you're wearing Platinum Egoiste to the office, where it's climate controlled all year-round, then realistically you could wear it for work anytime. Longevity is honestly not that great for me (about five hours before it's a skin scent), but I always reapply fragrances at lunch with a decant, so it's not really an issue for me.

Chanel is awesome at men's work fragrances. This is now a staple of mine.

brainrot_haver

My second at-bat with Chanel, and it’s another home run. Opens with a masterfully blended aromatic fougere, evokes a squeaky clean barbershop. Petitgrain and cedar come in to give a nice woody foundation that’s built upon with notes of neroli, jasmine, vetiver and moss. Typically oakmoss will dominate any fragrance for me, but it’s very well refined here. The drydown of this scent has muted shades of vetiver and red sandalwood with a warm, cozy amber and cedar. Doesn’t stick around as long as I would like it to, but 5-6 hours is still solid. Overall, a very nice, subtle masculine leaning fragrance. 8/10.

La Nuit Noir

Spring daytime office/formal event classic!

Sandalwood & lemon - with a light woods base.

Dries down into a very classy sophisticated scent, and smoothens out a lot over time.

Off my skin it can sometimes become very sweet, creamy, & powdery with the herbal elements. It's a really strange effect I don't really get from any fragrances other than Prada L'Homme. So it can change a lot over time when I wear it, with the main smell projecting off from my skin being this creamy sweet herbal scent.

DrDohm

BigBergamot

The sleeper of all sleepers. It I had to choose only one to keep, it would be this one. My favorite opening of any fragrance anywhere, short lived but really pleasant all the way through. The top is sublime, the drydown is really good.

ROUSAK

The opening if this fragrance is beautiful. little barbershop, however the dry down does not meet what you would expect from House like Chanel. Overall a good fragrance. 7/10

julesmelly

It's okay but there was a sharpness to this that I didn't like. Notes were also not particularly interesting.

Dipietro

Despite the prevailing woke culture I can say that this is a mans fragrance not unisex or gender neutral but a mans fragrance .
Just to be clear a mans fragrance Not for those men trying to get in touch with their feminine side. But for men who think Connery was the only Bond worth watching . And whose hobbies include seducing women as many as possible.

trbltrbltrbl

I read the review by Luca Turin that trashed this so came back for a sniff to see what's so bad. I'm comparing it to Tom Ford's Beau du Jour which is another very loud fougere. Egoiste Platinum is really sour. I can't really smell a middle or base note to it. It's piercing and linear. The TF fougere however is so rich and deep in its composition. I hadn't been so impressed by it until comparing it to Egoiste Platinum. The trouble is Egoiste Platinum smells like it belongs on a teenage boy and Beau du Jour smells like it belongs on a 60 year old man. I'm neither.

adam_11_1

@bskauge I sort of do get where you're coming from with the metallic note that you get. First time I've tested this genuine masterpiece I was intrigued and found myself smelling my hand every other second. As with all fragrances, you mustn't judge based on a couple days of testing, let alone by a first impression. This isn't your ordinary modern fragrance and the fact that this has been on the market for 30 freaking years is a testament that it is timeless and loved by many, but you have to give it a few wears and you'll eventually begin to pinpoint that herbal, slightly sweet lavender note. An overall perfetly blended fragrance, all the accords play along well and by the way I find this more than versatile for many different occasions. This is Chanel after all and according to my observation it still sells rather well. I'm sure you'll come around loving this too eventually!

bskauge

A sharp, sharp note of something metallic or wet stone with some hint of cedar in the background. Smells like a Zippo lighter with the steel and the flint, and that first top note takes a long time to evolve. I don't get any green or fresh notes at all, just that metallic note that is too sharp for my taste. I can't think of any occasion that I wear this, which is a shame, since I blind bought a 100ml bottle.

Catacal

Its like someone took a water gun but instead of regular water its got an insane dose of rosemary and mint. Smells super clean and fresh

Let_it_be

This is Chanel's first modern men's fragrance after that Egoiste's disaster. It smells nothing like the original Egoiste but Chanel spent so much money marketing that brand so they decided to stick to it. This was the reason Egoiste Platinum wasn't as popular as it could have been when it was introduced. People disliked Egoiste, they though Platinum was a variant of it.

Platinum smells a little dated and common today, but the quality is still impeccable. Take a deep sniff - you can smell a trail of notes like musical chords singing into your lungs. That's high quality.

If you want to imagine what it smells like - it smells like orange's peel. That sharp smell of orange when you are peeling it.

taslimhasan

Fresh, clean, expensive aftershave. And I love every bit of it.

lauravladelena

It smells like lavender cedar water. I feel like it could be unisex as it's a really natural smell but it also has this aftershave hint to it that i don't like
