this isnt offensive at all its quite pleasant

AEyup

Those who live in ranches and farms are lucky to have the freedom of using this perfume in its natural habitat. You have to love the smell of soil and whatever lies in the soil to appreciate it.

If you are someone like me who loves this perfume but lives in the city among city slickers who might not accept Figment man for who he is - a savage untamed fecal beast - then you either hide your love from others and wear the perfume only at home; or come out publicly, fight and stand up for your love.

If you decide to do so, be ready to be seen like 'Shallow Hal' in people's eyes.
As a defense mechanism, get philosophical when someone complains about the smell.
Example: "What is wrong with smelling like animal shit? What is the definition of animal shit anyway? at least it is a natural smell".
Always act like a creative artist who uses the right side of their brain; and smells the beautiful side of things that normal people cannot smell. Try to make others feel ashamed of their basic smelling ability.

If it is any consolation, remember that when you smell like shit to others, you passed the point of giving a shit about others!

I disagree with the "cat pee" comments, and I was an owner of cats for years, I've changed my fair share of litter trays.

Sharp and anamalic? Yes, very much so, but in an earthy way.

This scent is extremely pleasant, in fact, one of my favourite scents from this house (and I enjoy a few from Amouage), truly a great shame it was discontinued.

The opening is very much a sweet spiced (peppery) lemon and geranium with a mineral and earthy zing.

I can smell the "animalis" note (a pre-existing synthetic base) but there are enough additions to this that I'm okay with it. Mernado knows what she is doing. I pick up a kind of Ivy-ish herbal.

Extremely real mossy wet greens, earthy (like, mulched leafy compost) along with masticated herbs in freshly turned soil. There's a resinous and balsamic quality from the labdanum and gaiacwood note fading to the sandalwood later.

The drydown gets spicy and fresh and the vetiver note is top notch. Though it's earthy it isn't a dirty scent, I find it very clean.

This reminds me of the period just after a fresh rainfall in a tropical steamy herbaceous forest. I have lived close to Bhutan (in the far north of Sikkim) and this takes me back there.

Versatile and wearable in all settings. I don't find it offensive remotely. Perfect for the spring and autumn, but wearable all year around.

HermanoBasura

Smelled this from a friend of a friend. I can agree with the other reviews that it smells like Un fresh musty soil mix and cat pee, but this is different in a way. It may smell like human or animal feces but it brings back memories of a childhood. I used to grow up in a small town, dirt roads everywhere type of place. We used to play with the mud and dirt. This reminds me of that scent. I wouldn't recommend for anything.

farzadkaya

in our country perhaps you could say most of people hate this one, but I like it very much.
in fact soil is my best scent along with vetiver, patchouly and animal notes, and the Figment is one of the best earthy/animalic frags with a good vetiver.
it is very similar to Peau d'Ailleurs by Starck another good earthy frag which is designed also by the perfumer of Figment Annick Menardo. I like the later too

renperd

I tested Figment Man on Saturday, and agree that it's challenging: dark, brooding, 'unfresh'. Since I'm unfamiliar with feline urine, I don't make that association. In fact, I've never come across fragrances that remind me of the scent of any animal, human orifice, human excretion or secretion, etc. What I do get from Figment in the far dry down on my shirt is a reminder of JP Gaultier's discontinued Kokorico. I suspect they share a patchouli note. I contemplate buying discontinued Figment Man.

Ben Armband

Do you enjoy Serge Lutens Vetiver Oriental? Do you love cats? Do you take pleasure in gardening?

Figment is kinda like if you put VO in a very musty soil mix and a cat pissed on it.

Now, I can hear you say « that sounds horrible » and, yes, it does. But it smells even better! Angelus Libri, just before me here, made it sound poetic in their review — because this perfume IS poetry! — but I think what they left out is that it simultaneously smells kind of bad. But only "bad" in a modern sense, because a lot of people aren’t used to the smell of raw nature anymore, because everything and everyone smells soft and sweet and harmonious nowadays. Figment is raw, with sharp edges, yet when you give in and allow yourself, it transports you to a primeval forest after rain, where danger lurks but beauty abounds when you know where to look.

A difficult scent for sure, yet rewarding when you surrender to it.

Angelus Libri

Wet leaves on a musty floor with a peppering of needles atop damp wood chips a mycelium slowly forming in the fall. Grass emerging beneath the melt of snow on a humid winter day. Love at first spray. The petrichor lasso around my heart.

MrMrBrian

Don’t know why I seem to be the only one that loves it. Sure seems that way. I think I bought it in 2020 during Covid for hardly nothing and ever now & then I sneak it out amongst my other 300+ fragrances hoping my wife will change her toon and like it But it’s just not happening…She says she gets the dirt & grass which is in the notes listed as earthy notes and Vetiver. I used to think I didn’t like any Vetiver But realizing this year I do and This one is no exception. I’m glad I have it hearing that it’s discontinued and just like the discontinued myths man It’s soooo strong that it should be a long time before one should ever run out of it. I get the lemon and the Vetiver and the earthy notes that does give it an animalistic vibe. I’m not sure if there’s a touch of castoreum in this or not. I do get asked a lot what it is I’m wearing it Never really complementing words lol. But it hat doesn’t matter That’s not what this is. It’s a statement maker for a certain type of confident person like myself who likes this scent a whole hells lot! I have the long messy blond hair facial hair ripped jeans old Doc Martains and a Movado watch “Go figure” But plenty of carded samples out there still of this one to try n buy before it’s eventually gone forever.

The DZ

This one has reached deep into my subconscious memory. It is absolutely as advertised. Damp soil, earthy, sweet patchouli. But it reminds me of childhood, digging in the dirt on a warm day and just laying down in the earth. Smells both like new growth and decay. It makes me so happy.

Photorealistic green/natural is something I love wearing, so if that's your thing, you'll probably love this. However it does dry down with a slight animal urine smell note. Try it first.

Update: the late hours life of the fragrance smells like straight up cat pee. Sad!

cactus pete

Very damp earthy and woody smell, like the forest floor in a cool morning after a night of light rain. Intriguing for sure, however, I'm sure some people really dig it, but I can't shake the faint sweet smell of urinal cakes. I don't hate it, and the earthy woody notes would be amazing without the urinal cake note...

Great projection and longevity. Perhaps I will try my decant again in a few months.

Not for the faint of heart.

Starch Mask Replica

Smells strongly of wet dirt with a hint of sweetness and sometimes urinal, yet somehow it's interesting. I'll probably never use up my sample, but I don't feel compelled to get rid of it, either.

smelling.sniffing.swan

Not a bad scent, but not my style.
Sandalwood, incense and pink pepper are the key players here in my opinion.
Some anamalic notes that hang about are a bit more controversial. I find it interesting, but the term 'cat piss' may get thrown around by some less niche noses.
VERDICT: If you are looking for compliments, steer clear. An interesting blend that a select few may love.

Amouage have updated their website and it is confirmed: Figment Man is gone.

RIP Figment. :(

Chanel de Lanvin

According to the previous opinion this perfume is vile 😂 several of us know how to appreciate it, so we must not take into account inconsistent opinions but show reflection.
It's possible that when you wear industrial, fashionable perfumes and expect compliments, it's better to stay in the shadows 😉

refinednostrils

Only for the trained niche noses. Very earthy and mature men’s fragrance. Quite potent and does last on my skins for hours and hours. A spray one evening and it doesn’t come off until the next evening and even then it doesn’t disappear as you can still get traces of it. Somehow not all amouages lasts this long. May be worth trying before you buy but anyone who digs earthy and somewhat animalic woody type fragrances can blind buy because upfront you know what you’re getting :)

FragLoverMNE

This is a very hard fragrance to wear. Much harder then Interlude.. But I like it and will wear it on a, cloudy, cold winter day wearing all black outfit with a black wool coat. Its earthy but there is some sweetness to this earthiness. For me this is Chanel Antheus sprayed on a black soil.

Scent: 8/10 (because of the wearability factor)

Wild nature in a bottle: moist forest soil, woody, slightly resinous and grassy, with animal tracks.
Fresh and dark. Full of life, but sinister at the same time.
An absolute work of art.

Tshahb

I thought Myths Woman was the essence of the forest floor and it's earthy mulch until I smelled this.

Exquisite, moldy, wet and green this is the photorealistic natural environment, whereas Myths Woman represents a melancholic hydra slithering about in the swampy mud deep within.

Stunning and esoteric, this is what a perfumer can do if they are allowed creative freedom.

Further exploration reveals minty sweetness with some sparkle, I guess the geranium and vetiver.

Card testers don't do this justice, put it on your skin.

Uodate: annoying aftermath from this perfume is a permanent geosmin smell on fabric - powerful and eternal. It makes me hesitant to wear it.

AATur

I’ve just bought this fragrance, it’s very addictive, very niche. Animalistic note reminds me a little bit of Nishane Unutamam which I really like. Figment is not for classic fragrances collectors, it is fully niche experience. Like I said, it’s very addictive, I keep smelling this on myself whilst writing this review. For me this scent is perfect when I want to smell good but only for myself. It doesn’t mean some people wouldn’t appreciate the uniqueness of it. But I’d rather wear this when I’m alone or in a group of who will understand my olfactory weirdness 🙂

MRBB

I just got a bottle on sale. It's not as daring as I thought it would be, but I love it. It's totally wearable. As many reviewers have pointed out, the initial scent is strongly reminiscent of damp earth and moldy logs. The best way to describe it is like a photorealistic scent of freshly cut raw, plump beetroot.

Amouage's "Figment" is a wild ride that I can only imagine wearing to my own burial (as a warm-up). The idea of encapsulating potting soil into a perfume by Menardo and Chong is audacious. Yet, against all odds, it works in its own distinct way.

This fragrance is a gardener's wet dream on a frosty winter morning. It's an unapologetic journey into a raw, earthy realm. Figment is different and unconventional, and the AI-generated suggestion that it's not suitable for public spaces is hilariously true. Only Amouage could pull off such a move.

M-as-Marin

September 2023 UPDATE: Figment Man and Myths Man are back in the production. Yeah baby!!! Thank the lord that Amouage came back to their senses since it would be a terrible loss for perfume world if these two never back back again. 10 out of 10 move from Amouage!

Figment makes me feel like a happy, soil-covered lizard

Like a dumb, warm reptile nestled into wet roots and beetles and leaf humus on the rainforest floor.

I imagine it's what the entire bug kingdom in Hollow Knight smells like.

Until now, I hadn't encountered an "earthy" frag that is so legitimately earthy. It's a garden-y kind of smell. Broken roots, grubs, and petrichor. Or a slightly musty, cozy vacation cabin. Or playing in the dirt in the woods, as a kid. All positive, simplistic, associations (for me, at least.) And it dries down to an herbaceous, green, sophisticated incense that is either sexy, or food-y like a turmeric pie crust.

I can only assume this is a truly advanced, nose-aesthete product, because if it's not, it's literally dirt and wood bits in alcohol and oil. I feel like I need to get my friends to smell it and (hopefully) tell me I’m not crazy (my girlfriend, for one, says it’s the only animalic scent she’s ever liked, despite the fact that the atomizer head smells like mildew.) It has absolutely no cheap, easily-recognizable artificial accords. Just organic. Just dirt and wood.

Anyway, Figment makes me want to be that lizard, beneath the understory, with my dirty lizard toes, smelling forest smells, licking my eyes, and unconcerned about stupid human things like careers and taxes and late stage capitalism.

JodyK

I can see why people don’t dig this. This is a very dirty, very intense scent. I personally don’t pick up much in the way of animalic tones (I can’t tell if I should be alarmed by that), but the earthy tones do not disappoint, especially when they’re paired with the pepper and lemon. It really sharpens the earthy notes, helping them cut through the air and just scream “HERE I AM”! This perfume is definitely challenging, especially if you’re coming from more crowd pleasing scents, so don’t pick it up thinking this will be an office friendly fragrance. It isn’t; be kind and don’t do that to your coworkers.
Personally, I love this scent. It’s certainly a little off putting, especially if you put your nose directly up to it, but if you allow it to sit in the air with you, it is like being in a beautiful, damp, and slightly depressing forest.
Unfortunately, this thing is discontinued, so if you’re at all interested in what I or other commenters have described, I strongly recommended picking up a bottle. You might regret it, but you might not… who knows?

Imagine rainy season: You walk into the porch of your wooden holiday home, there is smell of damp earth, wet / moldy logs and slight pungent & animalic fecal smell coming from the soil interspersed by some crushed flowers.
The smell is pleasant in a harsh way. This is what Figment smells like to me.
Figment is creative perfumery at finest.
Pushes the envelope.
Collectors item but probably a difficult wear.
Above average sillage and performance.
Try before you buy!

Amouage #1 - Thrown into deep waters.

Got me a beautiful Amouage men's discovery set for 20 dollars off someone and wanted to test the infamous Figment first to get it out of the way since its the one i heard most about, along with Interlude (which i own a clone off and i am familiar with the DNA).

To me it comes across as a more wearable YSL Kouros. Kouros is more astringent and that acidity combined with the animalic notes made me gag a little bit the very first time i smelled it. Hence why people describe Kouros as "piss-y"

With Figment it is a little different. It is still animalic and has that classic vintage men's aggresive scent profile, some mustyness but its not bad actually. I see wet soil or peat come up often in reviews and not without reason, its in there from the get go.

Make no mistake tho, this ain't in the mass appealing category eigher, just because i prefer it to Kouros and find it more pleasant, doesn't mean this doesn't kick like a mule. You better buckle up before aproaching Figment, especially if you haven't smelled such scents before.

This is the cheapest Amouage one can get in my country, 50 ml for the price of a designer fragrance or a Mancera / Montale. Worth it if you want such a fragrance DNA in your collection.

Roarrkegaard

LOVE. I bought this because I saw it was discontinued, then got scared reading all the reviews about how it stinks or smells bad, etc. As soon as I removed the wrapping and opened the box, the air was filled with a smell I have not sensed in any other perfume I've ever smelled and it was love at first sniff.

This is rich and I can't stop reaching for the bottle and smelling the cap. There's something familiar that I couldn't put my nose on until hours later when I finally realized why I was feeling so soothed by this fragrance: it smells like some of the incense we use at my church!

My wife says it reminds her of rain, which she loves.

I will be purchasing backup bottles of this. It's a fantastic scent. Sad to see it has been discontinued.

cats_eye

Smells like horse shit. Literally.

Tys0n

When this was released, I recall being incredibly taken by the damp soil accord, which made it one of my favourites from the house. I never pulled the trigger on it until this year. It’s not available in stores here so I bought it online for a reasonable price.

To my surprise, there is next to none of that earthiness from my recollection and instead I get a very animalic geranium-forward scent with a base of guaiac, sandalwood and vetiver. After an hour the animalics smooth out.

As this was released at the same time as Myths, I can’t help but compare the two. The smoky incense opening on Myths is to die for, but the dry down is less interesting. Figment on the other hand dries down to something far more captivating, and while it’s the not the fragrance I thought I was getting, I love it all the same.

Interested to hear if anyone else has experienced similar variation with Figment Man batches.

S0041464

Smells like your friends damp, musty holiday house.
While I can appreciate the niche nature of this fragrance, I wouldn't call it a masterpiece.

brandonR

I was working at the hospital today when we had a much needed summer rain. The only reason I knew it was raining was because I smelled it through the ventilation system. It was a wet asphalt and leaves type of smell that immediately reminded me of this Amouage masterpiece.

People can lowball this one all they want, but Figment Man in my eyes is their best creation, and I’ve sampled most of them. Their loss is my gain.

10/10

SomebodyToKnow

Sexy and Masculine. A more classy and sophisticated version of Memoir Man.

Sam Waris

After reading so many mix opinions I went ahead and bought it at a great price because someone who bought it did not wear it at all.

About this fragrance, this is one of those fragrance when Amouage use to make actual niche fragrances, this fragrance is what niche fragrance is all about, this is a collectors item when you want a perfume for your own pleasure and not because you want to others to smell.
This perfume is why I fell in love with niche perfumery, even though its discontinued its well worth getting it.

Now talking about the fragrance:

This fragrance starts off with a similar animalic note slightly similar to Musiqa oud by nishane, but then after 15 - 20 mins it changes to the vetiver rooty smell.
After a few hours like 4 - 6 hours the beautiful smell of earth and some slight hints of sweet flowery notes come up which so beautiful, when I applied it I could not stop smelling my arm again and again.

This perfume is not everyone's cup of tea, its very different than the mass appealing fragrances that a lot of these niche fragrance houses make these days and they dont challenge themselves anymore because they can cash in that designer market customers where people just buy it because it smells safe etc.

When I wore this on my jumper, the entire room was smelling it for days even though I was not able to detect it but my wife was able to smell it and complained about it days after, so that is a good sign that its longevity is awesome. I absolutely love this smell but my wife who is a clean freak hates it and complains that it smells like mould which I totally disagree, I believe that this is a fragrance that is super niche and you really have to enjoy fragrances that is super different.

This fragrance gives me that calming effect each time I wear it, there is something zen about this fragrance and I truly cherish it.

However, should you go out and buy it ? NO ! sample it first, apply it on your skin & see how it works on you and if you really like the different stages of the perfume because the opening is very different to dry down.

TLDR:
- Super complex
- All year round
- Great longevity
- Great performance
- Super Ultra Niche
- Not for everyone
- Similar to Gilli mitti attar
- Not blind by worthy

Vitalii1111

the train is simply chic and masculine. Up close and the first 30 minutes are scary, but then it's great. The plume looks like an Amouage Beach House

frankcrummit

I admire Figment's originality but dislike its potency.

As with so many of Amouage's offerings, I have the sense that it is designed with Middle Eastern heat and humidity in mind, but I feel it is far too pungent to wear in public in these cooler climes, without provoking strong reactions from anyone placed within my radius.

Sampling it is one thing, but wearing it quite another!

farzan amini

Its really unique , and certainly its not a blind buy fragrance , you should test it before . but I love the fragrance and I dont undrestand all the negative opinions . It opens with a fresh and sharp lemon and behind that you can feel the darkness , the earthy notes and wet soil . Its kind of weird but in a good way . In my opinion , its not a perfume , its sth beside , sth that if you wear , certainly people around would say what is that weird smell , where its coming from ? And they won’t believe its a perfume you worn , if I want to make it short , it makes people around talking . The longevity and sillage is enormous and Its all season wear .

Vitalii1111

the aroma is cool, one puff and the aroma sounds great. not more

sebeck666

i wore figment a few times, i didn*t get any compliments, but...
-the opening is wonderful but challenging (some geranium-vetiver& a lot of earthiness)
-after about 10 min. wet soil dominates and it lasts and lasts... about 10h on my skin!!!
-after 2h i get some animalic, wet, soil vibe- geosmin
-it doesn*t evolve that much after it
i like it a lot because its completly different.
not so likeable but i can*t stop sniffing it!!!
After a month of wearing figment men i can confirm that this weird soily geosmin Note is not so pungent anymore. Or my nose got use to it...I ve got some compliments ... and now i truely adore IT... IT is summer now, and IT really shines in a Hot wheather. A masterpiece!!!

maxji777

Blind bought it. I was trying hard to understand and enjoy it. Tried layering it with other nicer perfumes to cover its unpleasant notes. But I give up. It is definitely my worst blind buy. I find it overall repelling vegetal heavy scent that I could not fix by layering. Unique - maybe, but it’s not what I would wear. If anyone interested I have a full bottle.

Andras 21

Rains bring some amazing smell out of earth. That's something really good for many but pungent for some. That's what this perfume brings. Amazingness in a bottle which is coloured and designed accordingly.
The earthy notes are pretty noticeable from the point go and they grow pretty strong, fairly strong and keep growing. It's surely an animalic perfume. The aura that this creates is impeccable, very very different. This is not ur typical oud our vetiver or leathery perfume, this is the bundle of different perfumes which vary and work together extremely well.. Surely is a power packed perfume. Not for every nose. 10/10 for longevity
10/10 for silage
10/10 for formulation
100/10 for sexiness...

Gurreu

Addictive, earthy scent. Super nice aromatic base.
Initially a little strange, but after a few weeks, it has become a favourite.
IMO, figment man is suitable any time of the year, in any environment. Maybe restrain from over spraying !
5/5 from me.

kentabatinga

I want to find that animalic facet mentioned a lot in here. Did not get any of that. I only get a very pungent decayed dark forest soil from the get go, very similar to Demeter Dirt. After half hour, a little bit of sweetness comes through, somehow camphorous as well. It's a fragrance for those that want something out of the ordinary. I don't love it, but I kinda like it. I must be in the mood to wear it. Maybe I'll skip a full bottle purchase (prices are good at discounters) because the animalic I crave in perfumery was non-existent on my skin.

Chanel de Lanvin

I own this perfume as well as Myths Man, these are for me the 2 excellent achievements with Interlude and Lyric Man.
Flagship perfumes of Amouage.

M-as-Marin

Figment Man is by far the cheapest Amouage fragrance on the market which unfortunately gets a lot of hate. You can get a full presentation 100ml bottle for around 120 EUR right now in early 2023. Mark my words that in five years from now, it will be the most expensive Amouage on eBay. After deciding whether should I blind buy it or not due to the overly negative reception, I got my hands on a small decant a few days ago.

Let me just say that it is nowhere near "pissy" or unwearable like some of the comments here suggest. It is a nice aromatic and real earth-smelling fragrance you can wear without smelling like "death". Will it be to everyone taste? No. Is the best from the house? No. Is it a challenging balsy niche fragrance? Yes. Should you get yourself a decant and judge yourself? Yes.

If you ask me, I'll be getting this one very soon, and you will find my review at scentgrail.com

Hope this helped everyone who are in doubt regarding this one, but I understand why Figment failed so much just as the beautiful Myths Man as well. Even thought it has been officially discontinued(I have contacted Amouage directly), the overly huge remaining stocks wont last forever. Now's your chance to buy something different.

Mez0Nez

Smells like Ambrinol and Terrasol are mixed.

CarbuneInmiresmatul

Dear friends,

There has been a terrible mistake in general reviews of this perfume. This splendid, one of kind juice, is divine! In no way it is too harsh, too shocking, besides shockingly beautiful.
Yes, it has earthy and animalic notes, but in no way they are overpowering or unbalanced.
This amazing substance perfectly balances Geranium, Animalic Notes, Earthy Notes, and Resins.
I blind-bought it, yes.. you can do it! And I suggest you do so! Since it is no longer produced, and it is maybe the cheapest Amouage you can get, and it's a unique unique experience, beautiful. (as well as consider it an investment, since surely in the future it will be highly sought after when no longer found)

Another thing.. nobody thinks about it, however.. I happened to have a bottle and.. well.. it reminds me of a highly matured sophisticated niche version of Versace Blue Jeans! :)) Yes!
And looking at the notes, no wonder! They have in common, citruses, geranium, vetiver and sandalwood!

I hope this was entertaining for you, and I could not recommend this more.

OHfragluvr

I like Figment Man, glad I picked it up while still available. Of the 16 Amouage fragrances I own, I think it is definitely the most interesting, niche, and vintage-like. I read and watched reviews, knew what to expect. Under no circumstances would I recommend someone blind buy this. Nope. You had better like animalic and be comfortable with earthy and earthy from wood notes. I can see why many don't like it. Animalic and unusual notes challenge many noses. I happen to like floral, oriental, leather, amber, animalic, and more. I like its fresh opening, and the heart and base where it gets down to business. Great longevity. Wore it for casual wear today. Black Iris or Interlude tomorrow, and with two evening events this week, will wear Overture (with gentler animalic notes) and Royal Tobacco to those. Different frags for different venues. I love the fact that Amouage had the cajones to put this on the market, push limits, and keep the brand creative.

Menadrin

I cant undestand some fragrances from amouage. This is a very strong but absolutly not good scent. Smells like mildew. So I dont recommend to buy it blind. Maybe some people can wear it, but I cant imagine, which type of human.

Nelbuio

Beğenmedim. Kirli bir toprak kokusu var. Çürüyen mantarları barındıran, nemli, kedi idrarlı toprak kokusu.

So, where do I even begin with this. First thing I can say is that most of the not so positive reviews below are accurate. As I'm one of those guys who panics when I realize a scent has been discontinued, I pulled the trigger against what most have said here with a blind buy. Am I happy to own this? Well yes and no. It's definitely "niche" and have a feeling a few years down the road there may be a cult following who is willing to pay an arm & a leg to get their hands on this. On the other hand the chances of me actually wearing this out in public are pretty much zero lol. One spray in the bedroom has had my wife nauseated now for the last few hours, if I dare to spray it again in her presence I may need to invest in good divorce lawyer. I can kind of see the direction they wanted to head towards when creating this monster but fear they took a wrong turn somewhere in the process. The comparisons to urine, mold, damp rotting materials etc.. are valid. I'm almost thinking about bringing it with me to work to spray around my bosses desk every morning before he gets in hahaha.

I don’t think I need to add anything other than THIS IS NOT A SAFE BLIND BUY. Anyone who enjoys this fragrance probably has a cemetery in their backyard. It is that bad. Smells like death.

Fragaddict123

Fortunately when I heard this one is getting discontinued and found a bottle for a good price I had to snatch it
Unfortunately the moment I sprayed it I knew why they discontinued it
If I had to describe this thing with a word it’s “vulgar”
I never had problems with earthiness but my biggest issue was the sourness to the extent of being nauseating
Performance is great
I didn’t like it my first bad blind buy in 2023

When I first read the name on the decant I thought this will probably be a nice green refreshing fig fragrance. Maybe a hint of mint but probably not, because how could they pass up on the name FigMint Man?!

Anywho. Blast my arm with five or six shots and boom: BEVERS BUTTHOLE!

This fragrance has hipster written all over it. It’s almost unpalatable as if it’s intentionally made to offend. And if you think it’s horrible you just don’t get it man. You know the kind. When you go to get a coffee and it’s so sour you can barely drink it but the barista behind the counter gives you a dirty look when you ask for another one. Or when you get a beer at a microbrewery but it’s 1000x hoppier than it should be. This is that fragrance. If this fragrance were music it would be grunt metal.

This does not smell good. There is no art here. The sole point of this fragrance is to offend. This is slacktivism or quiet-quitting. This is lazy rebellion in a bottle.

After seeing a couple of affordable bottles floating around on the grey market, I found both reviews and notes for Figment Man piquing my interest. An earthy, animalic Amouage sounded fascinating to me and I wanted something divisive that could push the envelope. Would my nose be able to handle a challenge? After finding a decant, I was surprised to find myself liking it at first sniff, a rare occurrence. This was despite me picking up instant associations with vintage men's scents from the 80s. Despite being dated, I found myself hooked by sweet mesmerising civet, alongside the smell of overripe banana. To me, the scent doesn't evoke earthiness, but there is a dark undercurrent to the sweetness that suggests decay. Projection is remains strong for 3-4 hours before the civet becomes more muted. Castoreum takes over as the dominant note, projecting a savoury, musky animalic odour. An amber note lightly sweetens the castoreum and adds body to the scent. The scent wears for over 12 hours, so I have no qualms with performance.

I enjoy the scent of Figment Man and believe it to be wearable. However, I have been told that it smells like 'old man' or 'sewage'. Being younger, the scent is incongruous with how I present myself. However, I still wear this on occasion to irk those around me and generate a different type of energy. It's a very fun wear, but I'll only pick up a bottle if it comes along at the right price.

The opening is a realistic earthy accord like a wet forest in the rain but it only lasts a few seconds, no barnyard at all, nothing challenging or weird. The woods are camphoric, herbal, and cooling in the opening, which triggers our nose to associate it with soil but it’s just the high quality of the woods used in the blend, if you are used to mainstream synthetic fragrances you won’t understand it. Perfect office or night-out fragrance, not overpowering. Close to Hamdani Parfums de Marly.
Figment is fresh, woody /ambary, with the vetiver and sandalwood texturizing the accords, very sophisticated, 4 seasons but I think summertime is best; high-quality ingredients, unisex.

After a month of testing the fragrance from a brand new bottle I have to confess that I don't like it and I think it won't appeal to many people. The earthy mineral note doesn't blend well with the rest of the notes.Test before buying.

jero

Not that earthy or so animalic as the notes mentioned, more of flowery geranium and refreshing lemon in a way cooling down, all the way Amouagesque. And this really recalls some of the memory of old Bax, according to whom had experienced the damp coolness thing in the basement from the bottle of nevermore.

(Though I consider the vintage Polo performance decent), I agree with @MississippiMudcat this is the strongest... on paper a week ago the silliage yet makes my jaw-dropping. Once in a while smelling this Amouagesque scent in the air floating in my room is a pleasure, just I am uncertain when or where to have this outrageous beast out with me, the heaviness of Amouage easily makes the impression of an expensive pomade, though it belongs to the most alluring gentleman of leisure.

juljan

love it
i never know what people mean by "dirty."
is it earth like dirt?
is it bathroom/barnyard dirty?

for me it is not like some barnyard-like ouds and remains solidly perfume.

definitely for the niche/art crowd. aggressively contemporary. it ain't your grandmother's night on the town seductive civet/musk, or a ladies-who-lunch fleur du jour. nope. rather, it is bracing and intoxicating. and has a "sweetness" all its own.

Mississippi Mudcat

This is by far the strongest fragrance that I have ever owned. The original Ralph Lauren Polo in the beautiful green bottle from back in 1978 and into the early 80's versions is a distant second.

If you like earthy and soil/dirt like accords as I do then this will be right up your alley.

I don't get any fecal or urine smell out of it, but I would not attempt to wear this unless it is cold outside.

I love it, but you MUST sample it first because it is definitely not a safe blind buy.

ZZtopnote

Figment Man No 1 for YouTuber "Scentrifugal Force" his Top 20 Dirtiest Fragrances. Love it.

egghead1280

One of my favorites, and have yet to smell another like it. Opens up with a strong earthy smell, like smelling fresh dirt an hour after it has rained. It dries down to a pleasant earthy peppery lemon scent. The longevity is very good and this will last you the whole day if sprayed in the morning, but the longer I wear it the less of the earthy notes I smell until eventually it morphs into a mostly lemon scent on my skin. In hot weather the lemon takes over sooner, and in cold weather the earthy opening seems to last quite a bit longer. I prefer to wear it in colder weather because I find the earth notes more interesting, but it is sneakily versatile for being a more niche scent.

Chanel de Lanvin

When you see the previous reaction, I tell myself that I do not suffer from an olfactory problem to the point of finding this perfume or others, in this way as catastrophic.
For this person's opinion to be consistent, they would have to share it with the perfumer himself, at least it's called an exchange of dialogue, but frankly, we don't care that the lack of information lead to regrettable purchases.
You don't buy a perfume like a shirt, criticizing it for being too narrow or too wide.
It's not a mainstream scent, especially not for those who like to smell shower gel and claim to like fragrances.

Rammer99

Interesting scent. Would never wear this out to impress or out in general. This is something I like and enjoy to wear at home. Couldn’t pass it up for the price o paid. Opens up animalic, dark, green and earthy. I actually like it a lot, my girlfriend does too, mind you we both like Ouds and super masculine scents on me. This is great, until it dries down to plain rich, wet moist dirt. The dry down I don’t enjoy for wearing out at all.

At the same time, I love the smell of wet, earthy moist dirt. I go fishing a lot and it’s the same exact smell as when I’m stomping around at sunrise, in soaked, wet and muddy Florida summer canals and ponds. I love being out in nature, therefore I love this smell. Dry down is the exact replication of a wet, saturated, rich mossy soil. I love nature and being outside, hence my appreciation. At the same time, I know 95%+ of people would def not appreciate this scent. A masterpiece for what it is.

Scent as art, and depiction of a moment/ setting as opposed to something mass appealing. Def not s blind buy unless you know what you’re getting yourself in to.

portamentoporta

After reading all the review, i decided to try the 2ml vial. To summarised it, this perfume has 2 face. On a cold day it smelled like a mossy and earthy yet sweet peat with a little tinge of organic fertilizer from decayed matter. On a hot humid day it smelled like sweet, musky, soapy, yet very very VERY fecal (the equivalent of changing your nephew's diaper and cleaning them with a baby soap). It's a unisex fragrance with a little bit of masculine side.

Longevity wise its very good, i used it at night before going to sleep. at the morning i still smell it on my arm, and its still going strong. and it lingers spectacularly.

Its a linear fragrance and at the same time a beautiful piece of art, a signature worthy of a fragrance.

EDIT :
After getting acquinted for a bit with the 2ml vial, i decided to pull the trigger.
It takes sometime to get used to, after several usage at home and outdoor.
I've come to fruition that i like it, A lot.

After getting used to the opening, basically a fresh citrusy and earthy notes (mossy forest and wet soil) that stays for 1 - 2 hour. then transitioning to that mossy wet soil +
animalic compost + something sweet that are in the first time that i tried, a bit hard to love. This combination of sweet but fecal dirt stays for 6 to 7 hour. then transitioning to creamy woody smell from guaiac and sandalwood combination with a bit of the earth notes still lingering, stays until the more or less to the 12th hour of usage.

The projection sits pretty close to skin and this perfume projects the guaiac and sandalwood (a bit smoky, some people likened it to general aromatic candle/incense) to
the people around me.

For me, Figment man lingers in front of your nose prompting you of imagining nature and depending on your mood, it will remind you a bit of funeral. it has a goth and at the same time meditative quality to it.

I perceives Figment Man, as a concept or an idea that are succesfuly achieved as a scent. And in addition, the presentation speaks the same.

A gothic forest scent that are slightly uncanny yet at the same time, pleasant.

Handybandy301

To me this smells of what I imagine Salomo's Gardens would have smelled like. Full of fountains and exotic birds. It has a fresh water and fresh air quality to it in the opening, soil and animalics are present. Very natural smelling and very well blended. One of my favorites. I think it's discontinued. Will get more

TonyPo

Uffff one spray. Dry down is getting better, hard to shake the memory of that opening though. I’ll let this bottle sit for a bit and revisit at a later time.lol

brokesta911

Amouage Figment Man (2017) - animalic soil - A new way for #annickmenardo to showcase her signature accord, yet create her take on the famous Kouros. In 2000, she created Body Kouros, but had a completely different DNA from the original. In this perfume, she showcases a weird yet beautifully haunting combination of wet soil and animalic notes of Hyrax and Civet. She draws out this further by adding Labdanum that develops into a Leather accord. Earth, smoke, animalic. Her creamy & smoky backbone is there on her strong woody base.

HASSANMIBRAHIM

It requires a special taste , nose that used to smell out of a norm fragrances , for me it is great and brilliant fragrance , again this fragrance not for beginners and I recommend to sample it before a purchase , overall rating 8.5/10

Sadly now discontinued...

Blind buy.
Reading the reviews, I was expecting stankier. This is a pleasant, fresh earthy animalic. Very musky and natural. Like digging your fingers into the dirt under a dewy forest bed. Opens up beautifully on skin, very multifaceted. An adventurous scent, but honestly more wearable than you'd expect. Just don't wear it on a first date.

AEyup

A strange one by Amouage, as dirty, animalic and challenging as they come yet sexy and addictive.
I feel like the scent changes in the same wear, sometimes i get very animalic and fecal whiffs then 15 minutes later it goes into this rich earthy seductive pleasant territory.

It is a piece of art in my opinion, off the beaten path of any perfume trends going nowadays.

Although i can't imagine myself actually wearing this perfume but it is a treat to the nose.
Bravo Amouage!!

maxji777

Really disliked it first time I sniffed the cap. Sprayed one time, and was really disappointed, since it was a blind buy. Now as the evening comes, I sprayed more on my skin, and I can’t stop smelling it. Agree that would go nice in a garden. It is actually not that bad, and the accord that I did not like is actually somewhat dissolves on the skin and it becomes more of a multifaceted floral scent. Best for summer.

Agent Strong

The combination of earth and floral makes this seem almost funerary. I'm reminded of a similar combination of notes in BPAL's Burial. It sounds odd, but it works really well. There's nothing really challenging here, only that the earth element is not what the masses expect from a fragrance.

It has been discontinued, but is still available. I'm on the fence about getting a full bottle, but it is quite pleasant to wear.

FMilan

Oh, my Gods! I'm drooling as I'm wearing Figment! I was losing hope after all the IFRA bs, but this... this is something else! Christopher Chong and Annick Menardo just gave me a reason to keep on dreaming of better days.

This is brilliant! A huge, earthy, mildly animalic petrichor accord. What a breath of fresh air for nowadays perfumery when even niche and indie succumbed to market tendencies...

Anton1971

Ohhh, how much I like this piece of art ! Very strange combination of animal note and all the rest.... reminds me of Bat , Zoologist somehow... Happy to have it. I do not like simple perfumes. And this is my taste of what I am looking for.

Chanel de Lanvin

This perfume is a real slap in the face.
Out of time and makes you forget what the world of perfumery, with the exception of a few brands, is most banal.
It is intended for men, for once we do not find the lack of creativity of the usual male perfumes that flood the market, for me it is unisex, I have no trouble wearing products intended for women either, for very essence of nature, a perfume has no genres, only marketing makes the nuance question profitability.
The earth yes, that's what you can smell directly from the first spray, but then comes Gaiac wood and geranium, with a hint of vetiver to dress this earth.
In short, olfactory art in the bottle, for enlightened amateurs only, for people who have a nose used to smells in real niche perfumery, the conventional ones go your way.
Thank you Amouage.

DawnBreaker

A hundred dirty civet cats swimming and urinating in a kiddie pool of Pine-Sol disinfectant. Interesting, but not something I would wear. I adore Amouage as a house as well as challenging, arty perfumes, but this is a no go for me. Sorry to anyone who loves it. Conversely, I think this box and bottle is the prettiest in the Amouage lineup. Absolutely gorgeous packaging.

lemale83

Artistry at it’s best. And one of the most unique perfumes I’ve ever smelled. Smell like wet soil just after a heavy rain ending a long drought. I don’t know how Amouage manage capture that exact smell, it’s so realistic and natural. Figment Man dries down to a more wearable with a slightly sweet earthy scent which is nicely complemented by a fleeting floral touch. Yes I agree with most of you here, Figment man is not the most wearable fragrance, but there is something in it I keep coming back to smell. I think it’s more wearable than skanky Gold man.

Performance is off the chart, it last an entire day with strong projection. Not recommend blind buying, but you should at least try this interesting perfume.

Deelecto

One case where the "reminds me of"s are very telling. If you know original Bat, Kouros and general Amouage quality, you can basically triangulate Figment Man and know what you're getting.

Smelled off the cap or from afar, it is unmistakably Bat. However this is the compressed version, like listening to music through cheap headphones. Spraying it on is like playing the same thing through a good stereo - everything opens up. The Amouage quality is there in spades in a rich, multi-dimensional composition, and now the Kouros comparison starts to make sense, with a sporty lemon/geranium over bat-cave petrichor and civet-y animalic notes. I'm picturing a posh game of doubles being played at a country club with a petting zoo. However the animalic is way less funky than Kouros to me - this is still very attractive even up close.

Not a typical Amouage but a relatively safe and totally fantastic sporty animalic. Love it!

MLHaskell

Excellent! I don't see how the notes called out in the little pictogram above relate to this fragrance, but it doesn't matter.
It has a lovely set of first notes, perhaps geranium, lemon, pink pepper, but I would agree with botanical, lovely. Then, it dries down into something much more floral: rich, creamy, leathery (does that count as animalic?), and at the same tlme light. I pick up a tiny hint of rose and something minty, could possibly be the barest patchpouli. At this point, if I put my nose on my skin, the fragrance has some sharp woody note that is a turn off for me. But away from my skin--amazing. I spritzed a sample, and went out for errands. I had the car defroster on, which blew the fragrance around my car. A faint whiff smelled like one gorgeous thing, but when it was stronger, it was something else. I would go into the post office, come out, open my car, and the faint smell would waft out of my car and nearly make me swoon, so lovely. I would start the car, drive around, and the stronger smell would envelope me--gorgeous. One of the more exciting and interesting scents I have ever tried. This feedback is based on a sample, and I wonder if decanting may have an impact on what I received.
EDIT: I have found that this fragrance is far more enjoyable if sprayed on my clothing. The collection of warm and sparkling notes hang together much, much longer. So, your body chemistry will matter, which I didn't really believe until trying this perfume.

Jammy777

Fantastic! I wore it for the first time today and, all along, I enjoyed the uniqueness of the scent. I walked into an office I've never been to. And a young lady gave me a compliment. I didn't quite get her at first, because I'm not used to receiving compliments on fragrances. So, I asked to know what she said, and she repeated, "You smell really good." But I must confess that when I first smelled this perfume on paper strip at the boutique, it kind of appeared offensive, yet there was something inexplicable about it that made me pick it up on that day. So I hesitated to wear it since I bought it more than two months ago. Surprisingly, it's quite a beautiful scent on skin. I enjoyed my day today with Figment. It's a lovely perfume. One of the best in my collection. Never write off a perfume based on how it smells on paper.

FMilan

Out of a sample, the same scent profile as Mazzolari Lui, but lighter and airier. Like a Mazzolari Lui Cologne or something like that. Very nice and (much) easier to wear compared to the Mazzolari.

Kurgen

Amouage at their best... creating scents that no-one else would dare. I have absolutely no clue as to how they managed to bottle the smell of a mound of damp soil with rose cuttings strewn throughout, but they did. ...and I love it. :D There are so many safe, derivative scents out there, and very few of them have the balls to do something different. From the mesmerising box design, to the gorgeous bottle, to the unflinchingly challenging juice, they never pull punches.

hfiebert

What an interesting scent. It always seems like this scent is going to jump full out into one of several directions but it never does. Animalic, green, earthy, aromatic, ozonic, fougere, etc. there are so many components but at the end, it is extremely earthy and really enjoyable.

Caldrumr

A fantastic piece of perfumery.
It certainly isn't going to be your go-to safe office scent. This beast is interesting and complex.
It has (very) strong notes of soil, like a humid jungle floor, with moss and tropical flowers and woods.
A sharp note of old-school lemon is present in the opening, but fades fairly quickly.
Up close, it is certainly a bit pissy. But this isn't cat piss; this is the same style of floral uric scent you find in fragrances like Kourous - animalic and sharp.
From further away, it is more floral than anything, underneath that ever-present soil note.
So it's soil and animalics, but certainly not potting soil and cat piss.
A brilliant fragrance.

komail

This is so complex and multifaceted. It starts leathery and animalic in the ballpark of YAL Kourous / ELDO Rien and turns into this beautiful transparent lemony earthy smell like Terre D’Hermes. Totally non linear.
Very unique and big love for me. Its one of those fragrances that you have to test for a longer time to appreciate. This is not for smelling over a tester strip.
The opening might be off putting to some but just let it settle for some time and you will enjoy.

igor.boroto.thomaz

I've been with a Figment decant for 6 months and I've tested it a few times. It's a strangely addictive aroma. With each use, new facets are revealed. Make no mistake about the smell of urine and earth that remains in the spray bottle, because Figment behaves much more complex when applying to the skin. Its opening is essentially old school lemon that recalls the great citrus classics, which gains a burning when mixing with pink pepper. Soon after, the smell of wet earth begins to emerge and dominates the fragrance along with the anime notes that are responsible for the sensation of urine (this chord reminds me a lot of Kouros), but balances with the incensed DNA of Amouage, very prominent at this stage. The projection of it in the air leaves a citrus/earthy/wet/slightly animalic aroma that is a spectacle. This is art, this is innovative and this is to be appreciated by open-hearted people who like challenges and innovations.

inkhorus

Uniquely melancholic flowerless woods in the rain. A contemplative perfume. Opens wildly with earthy / damp notes, immediately after is citrusy, but not for long, then settles again into petricor-ish wet soil again. Difficult to pull off in a conventional setting but hey if you can please do. This is no people-pleasing perfume. This is where perfume wants to be art. Thanks Amouage.

Jammy777

This is magical. Nothing like it. Truly unique. I've had it for a while but hesitated to try it on me because of some reviews that said it was unwearable. But nothing could be further from the truth. I wore it today for the first time and it has shot to the top three of my collection. Apart from separating me from the crowd, the scent itself is a perfect definition of masculinity.

Stinky whiskey Buttons

This is The Beuty and The beast, the animalic earthiness and The amouage dna sparks and makes a magical parfume, this is by far my favourite amouage. And it deserves more hype, i heard this was like The black sheep in the amouage family, Its truly art in a bottle

jarednomak

The GOAT, at least for me; nothing comes close to this gem.

Royal family ss

What a masterpiece! True art. This is what niche perfumery should be.

The smell of soil,Fresh air,Green land, Animals,Trees, Plants, Happy kids,Kind people…This is village. Where there is still life.

extremely earthy - extremely unique

As Good As It Gets

( beware it’s not for everyone )

Aslanyus

This is such a fragrance
It is undoubtedly Most unique fragrance on the market
It is so special fragrance very hard to use
10/9

cwavah

I get alot of animalic and soil in the opening .. but this is more of a tamed animalic earthy soil fragrance.. Lemon present in the opening drys down to a mild wood but animalic present and dorminant

Potent too

Jewelpaq

This is the most unique fragrance in my entire collection, but I love it. My wife has got used to me wearing it & my Son tells me that it smells like damp grass and is slowly getting used to it also. Just one minute spray of this juice & it will project like crazy & does last 12 hours. To my nose it is a very damp, musty, earthy smell that is pretty much linear to the end.
I was initially given a decant of this perfume & after 2 day's, I had to buy a full bottle as I love this fragrance so much. In my opinion, it is a pure masterpiece in perfumery.

Spender

I bought a decant after reading the comments below. People seem to be very "shocked" by this frag.
So maybe I was a bit too excited about it in the first place but I must say that I wasn't that surprised by the scent when I tested it.
I totally agree with the comments that say that you first get strong (very strong) earthy notes, very realistic actually (and not potting soil guys.. comon.. potting soil stinks so much ). Then, after some time you get lemons. Very fresh and masculine. I don't think Figment is that difficult to wear though.
Nonetheless, this perfume is art and pretty serious art. Not that strange when compared to, for example, Beaufort London Fathom which is green feta salad in a bottle, so strange that it gets you laughing. Imo with Figment you stay in the wearable range, original scent that is classy, masculine and fresh.

Apr_Hiki

Uhm, this fragrance is hard to review. I had this one for over a year; however, sometimes I really like it, sometimes I regret buying it... yeah, gods! I am such a noise.
So, as my unstable feeling for this little guy, and for my poor English (as it isnt my first language), I will make a short and frank review.
1. Don't buy it if you are living in a tropical country (like me) as the hight temperature makes this one smell like urine (my sister told me that)
2. Even you are living in a low tempurature, dont buy it if you are an office man. People in the office will ostracize yoi for sure as this fragrance isnt an easy one for everybody to enjoy.
3. Dont buy it if you are not a man/woman that cant live without praying perfume on your body each 3 hours even when it is still on your skin. 100ml bottle... believe me, your whole family can share this bottle and the next generatition still got some rest to use until they move to the nursing home.
4. Dont buy it when your budget is so so.. yeah, Amouage products are so expensive.
And, if you have all these mentioned things above, but you still want to try, just go ahead. Because, sometimes, I love this one and I feel it so worthy to buy (when I got drunk... yeah... believe me ;)

Safistus

So let me start by saying that, at least for me, this fragrance is addictive.
I usually start my day by sniffing some essential oils and samples I have, including this one.

Recently I said that I will make a break, at least one day from smelling any perfume but this one just comes in my mind and make me smell it again and again.
I understand that it`s not the easiest fragrance to sniff, or to wear it, but it`s something really unique, for the lovers of strange fragrances, which I`m a big fan of.
I also have a sample from Sorcinelli - "But not today" and they are a bit similar, but only 10% and I have to say that Figment take me more on a scenery than the other one.

It`s really about the feeling on this kind of fragrances and niche in general.
And man, Figment is the one that reminds me of a walk in a damp forest, in spring and most in autumn, where all is wet, rainy, with diyng leaves all over and a lot of mosses everywhere you look, which I simply love.

For those who look for an olfactory journey and for the lovers of walking in forests, just by yourself, to admire the beauty of this part of nature, Figment is a must.

This and Myths do the job very well. even if it`s a subjective theme, but from my perspective, this is what niche have to deliver, to play with you oflactory memory and transcend you to a canvas you have felt.

Trendkill97

Very strange, but unique. Feels like chlorinated water slightly gives a vibe of a swimming pool, at the same time, the vibe of rain falling fresh on a gloomy day on the rocks and woods.. the brightness from the pink pepper and the touch of citrus saves the scent from totally falling into that dark category of fragrances. However, the animalic notes, soily, grassy, earthiness remind me slightly of something a house like Orto Parisi would do. Nonetheless, this is a challenging fragrance and could actually appeal to some who appreciate bold unusual styles of perfumes.

SANDYDE

Geosmin. Terrasol. Anamalis. That’s all I get from this. It’s really beautiful tho. All things I love, but if you’re familiar with or have smelt those three aroma chems, then everything else gets buried underneath them. I would def recommend this fragrance otherwise. Dirty, funky, compelling, a tad bright, and unlike most frags out there. This is only my second amouage perfume I have bought (after interlude), and although both haven’t been masterpieces, in my opinion, they both leave me excited for this house. I don’t understand the comparisons to afrika olifant. Nothing like it. This anamalic note, is much more general, I don’t get any natural animalics from this at all. And it definitely is brighter than afrika olifant. Not warm at all.

brandonR

One thing’s for sure, even if you love it, you’ll never get through an entire 3.4 oz bottle in your lifetime.

kaurg

First impressions. Soil, dirt, petrichor and moldy fungi are the main players here, for sure. But this only works from a distance. From up close, this accord appears quite harsh and unnatural, reminding me of fragrances like Tom Ford Noir Anthracite. Otherwise, I agree that it is quite clean (especially compared to Afrika Olifant that I have been testing). There are some castoreum-like leathery notes peeking through, but there are also some fresher notes in the top, probably the minty geranium, some citrusy freshness. For me, it falls into the category of "interesting..."

Blowfishes

Unusual and comforting fragrance. Definitely has that soil tincture opening, yet also very clean smelling. For me personally, this is like many oud type fragrances, but with most of the darker backbone removed. There is absolutely no skankiness, but I can understand some people picking up on the civet note. I also get the damp cardboard a few others have mentioned, but this is freshly produced cardboard, dampened with clean rainwater. Most damp cardboard I encounter is old, musty, and the water has become stagnant. This definitely doesn't have that.

I don't get any lemon, but can understand how some feel they can pick up that note. There is an element of freshness that hovers just below the top notes, that combined with the pepper, elevates this above a simple "potting soil" fragrance.

One for the Autumn or Winter, but may be suitable for a cold Spring day too. Performance is very good, with projection perhaps only above average, but longevity is beyond ten hours on my skin.

Redfish365

When I first acquired this about a year ago I was at a loss for words. It was the most unique fragrance I'd smelled. At the nozzle I get the clear and distinct smell of soil. Potting soil. Fresh potting soil. Like sticking your nose in a nice new bag of the stuff. On skin however the smell is lemons. Initially I thought the lemon smell was rather artificial but in the last 12 months of sitting in the bottle it seems to have metamorphosized into a super fresh, juicy lemon which is nicely framed by touches of geranium and pink pepper.
Then the distinct smell of civet surfaces. This animalic note will, for me, remain until the end. I generally like civet and find its judicious use quite sensual. Here it's used almost recklessly and yet it works! I'm sure it'll be yucky to many, nay most but I quite like it here.
The deep dry down with guaiac wood and labdanum plus sandalwood to me is patchouli-like and quite nice. The civet and lemon make appearances here and there hours after the initial application. Longevity is quite "Amouage" as is sillage. This stuff is absolutely tenacious. Im sure the 3.4 oz bottle I have will last a decade or longer due not only to the sheer strength of the potion but also to the fact that this is not a daily wear. Some will find it off-putting. To me it's art.

Initial fifteen minute impression: WOW

I get an earthy, soil, damp jungle, and animalic smell right away, and it's not unpleasant but rather intriguing. I really like it even though it's not what most people would associate with what perfume should smell like... Then there's a lemon-lime citrus and herbaceous quality that rises up which is really nice.

This fragrance doesn't give me any of the bad vibes that many other reviewers seem to get from it. Just from this initial impression, I can definitely see how Figment Man tends to be a love it or hate it kind of fragrance.

Gotta shower and go out, but I'm looking forward to future wears of this fragrance!

ewgaud

Probably not a fragrance for work, or anywhere else you might see people. All the more complex notes are trampled over by a very pungent, cloying scent that reminds one of a dried horse turd cooking on the pavement on a hot day. Amouage's own description of the fragrance promises to "awaken the imagination of the unknown" but only if the unknown is a gentle breeze through a petting zoo. Other reviewers promise that it can be appreciated by more seasoned noses, but since most of the people in my life are more down to Earth, I'd rather not actually smell like the Earth.

Italian pigeon musk

Wow , first off I absolutely love this fragrance, this is something special.

I was going to hold off on writing a review but I just was walking down the street, it's hot and humid, I passed an empty trash barrel and got a whiff of figment man... Utterly beautiful.

So this does not smell like trash, I suppose it could, if you imagine that when wearing it. This is a very complex unique fragrance that like someone else mentioned almost simulates an environment.

A wet, damp, climate with woods perhaps in the rain.
I can also imagine a smell of an environment perhaps after it rains, the air carries different scents your way as you walk through it.

It is an airy fragrance in my opinion so far from the times I've worn it. You get whiffs of it's constantly changing notes and it definitely hovers around.

Simply what I get here is a beautiful opening with a strong lemon, but not like any other lemon I've smelled in a fragrance before, perhaps the combination with the geranium is what I smell, perhaps also the animal note is right underneath giving it a tartness that some people refer to as "pissy", it's very nice and not unappealing in my opinion. This stays throughout most of the duration of the fragrance although it's very prominent in the first hour.

The earthy notes come out as it drys down, followed by the sandalwood and guaiac? I don't exactly get "dirt", but it has a damp soil, wet, pungent feel to it. Someone mentioned moss growing on trees, I can picture that at times during wearing this.

Then when the wood notes kick in as it dries down
It's something spectacular. It sort of warms up a bit, perhaps the labdanum? I'm not quite sure, I'll have to edit again with more insight on my experience with the dry down as it's fresh on my nose.

One thing I did find with this fragrance is if you smell it up close like on the back of your hand, at almost anytime during the duration of the scent you can smell the beautiful wood notes. But they only start coming out into the air in bursts later in the dry down.

Overall this is such an amazing fragrance, if you're reading through the reviews because your curious about this one, then it's definitely worth sampling despite anything anyone wrote that's negative. If you like Amouage fragrances this has Amouage quality and uniqueness.
I blind bought this, because I was intrigued, and I feel like I can trust what I'm going to get from Amouage is nothing short of quality.

It may not be something you would want to wear, or might have a hard time finding a place to wear this, but I personally like this one so much I will wear it wherever and not feel self conscious about what other people might think about it. If you decide to sample this even if it's not for you, I think you won't be able to deny the quality of this fragrance and will still be able to appreciate it's uniqueness.

This in my opinion is a masterpiece of perfumery.

HI everyone. Figment by amouage is very similar to Oud malaki from Chopard . The fragrance opens freshly, lemon and geranium , the herbaceaous notes was maintained over 30 minutes, then the heart appears, a beautiful castoreum animal accord maybe civette i think. Finally the santal and vetiver gives to this composition a confortable and soft long lasting sillage

Darkstar _ Destroyer

I mainly get geranium in the opening, which I really like. Soon, I get the soil accord, but it's more subdued than in some other parfums using that same accord, like the original Bat.

There is definitely an animalic aspect to it. I suspect it's civet, as it comes off a bit "pissy".

This is a challenging fragrance, to be sure. But a rewarding one as well. It certainly won't work for everyone, but then again, what fragrance does?

I really like this one. Art in a bottle. I'll wear it just for myself.

Pro Tip: I don't think it will get many compliments, but it just might be enough to discourage your mother-in-law from extended visits if you spray this on the pillows in the guest room!

mmmmgood

when I first sniffed this, I felt it was the thing you'd wear if you wanted to smell like a very specific place or environment. Figment Man, doesn't really evoke images of a scent you've worn before. But it takes you some place you've been to, outdoors. Now, the trick to wearing this, is knowing that YOU'VE been there...not somebody else. And you're wearing it because YOU liked how that place or environment, smelled. If you get caught up in what will people think, then you've just wasted a few hundred bucks.

personally?...I think its a beautiful perfume, because I dig a fragrance thats heavy on the animalics and heavy on the earthiness.

TheJurisDoctor

First, you’re not buying this for compliments. If you accept that, then you can proceed to understand the fragrance.

This is meant to evoke the environment of a rain forest - the wet soil, decaying wood, and mossy rocks. That’s exactly what this does. It’s almost as if you are lying face-down in a wet and shaded rain forest. The realism here is interesting.

Now, actually wearing this as a fragrance is where the split occurs. I actually wore it all day, and while it is interesting, I didn’t like it as a personal fragrance. But it’s a phenomenal representation of the rain forest, and I appreciate the artistry here - just know that you’re buying artistry.

ZONE

My current favorite this Spring. Wearing this is the olfactory equivalent to the meteorological phenomenon known colloquially as "the devil beating his wife".

alexander12350

Can't really imagine who would be able to pull off this fragrance, what a strange smell.

Marlon

This one has a wow factor. However, be aware because it's challenging as well.

I don't get the earthiness. To me it's animalic, big time animalic. In a pleasant, addictive way though. Other notes are perfectly blended and I can't see any of them popping to the surface - they just give this fragrance some volume and balance the animalic accord, so the composition has more accomplished, sophisticated facet.

It doesn't evolve on my skin, it's pretty linear. But it's long lasting and powerful. Got to say, I like it a lot.

FreddyK

This is extremely weird. 10/10

bigredwitt

Wet soil accord is very similar to original Bat (current Olympic Orchids Nightflyer), though slightly more fresh.

Beautiful and unique.

Sits super close to the skin. Maybe just my batch, but that makes it a huge loser in my opinion.

moderndandy_swap

Imagine: cold foggy morning, dead Koublai Khan with his horse (and musks) are lying on a grassy soil near a rotten wooden pier, covered by petrichor.

pharos81

Totally agree with the review below. The sillage and trail of this fragrance make this a masterpiece in my eyes. The notes are indeed challenging, but trust that it makes a beautiful statement.

toompje88

Wow... I don't know what to think of this fragrance after trying it for the first time. The opening is quite lemony pungent and slightly animalic, not in a very pleasant manner to be honest (it resembles the smell of a dirty toilet in the process of being cleaned). Quite quickly the opening fades out and mostly a strong, earthy note is detectable. At this moment it literally smells like potting soil with smokey woods and vetiver in the far background. The moment it starts to dry down, the animalic notes come to the forefront, they are quite heavy in this fragrance. For some reason this scent smells better in the air (I get the slightly sweet woody notes) then when smelled from the wrist (mostly a dark, animalic smell). Luckily I have a 5 ml decant, so will test it out more as is needed with such complex fragrances.

Akscent

I agree with Maddyrain's earlier review. If niche perfumes are the place where the most distinctive and adventurous fragrances are to be found, then Figment Man is as niche as you'll find. I love it.

This is a complex fragrance. My wife calls it "depression in a bottle" but I think that assessment is unfair. Figment Man is both melancholy, dark and sepulchral and uplifting, green and citric. As soon as you spray it, there is earth, dark rich and, at times bordering on moldy, and there's bright sunny lemon and minty green geranium. The fragrance is beautiful and needs to be worn repeatedly for extended periods to be fully understood and appreciated. However, get a sample or a decant before you commit to a bottle. Many, perhaps even most, folks will not enjoy this scent even if they appreciate the craft it displays. Others may well like it, but not want to smell like Figment Man. Also, note that this scent skews darker as it progresses--the earthy smell intensifies and some labdanum driven smoke and dry medicinal guaiac wood, used here as a fixative, mark the deep dry down. This scent projects strongly for hours and lasts past the 12 hour mark on my skin.

I reach for Figment Man mostly in early spring and throughout fall and I have given up trying to find situationally appropriate occasions on which to wear it. These days, I just like to smell this fragrance. I wear it in any situation, appropriateness be damned. It is that good.

The presentation is typical of Amouage, that is, excellent. Atomizers are great. Even the box is beautiful, although I'm not sure it's floral graphic really matches this scent.

Because this scent is polarizing, you can find it deeply discounted if you look around. Get your nose on this fragrance at least once it you can. It is remarkable.

pharos81

10/10. Unique. Animalic. Green. Dirty & Clean.

yigitalikaymak

@Chocolate Wonderland
The fact that a perfume evokes something else as a smell does not make that perfume bad.
C.Christian’s No.1 is known as the most expensive perfume in the world, but it reminds me of a hand soap. The equation you have is very wrong and unprofessional.

Next time never blind buy;)

Ralphangel

I own Amouage Reflection Man which I love, but Figment Man smells of rotten wood and wet stinky earth soil. The drydown is somewhat better as the woody notes come into play and softens the wet earth accord. This is a very complex
and challenging perfume which is not for the faint of heart!

Ries

Who is the nose/perfumer behind this?

Maddyrain

Now this is a truly niche fragrance! Even though no one can deny the quality of Amouage fragrances, you have to admit that Figment Man is completely different from anything they have ever released. It could perfectly be part of Etat Libre d'Orange line. It is an invitation to try something new, strange, out of the box and unique.

Figment Man is dampy, mossy, dark, green and earthy. It lasts a very long time on my skin and it leaves a pleasant lemony and earthy trail that will certainly leave people wondering if you were gardening.
Well done, Amouage!

Kloppo

A homeless man covered in cat piss and manure. If you ever wondered what sex panther from anchorman smells like. This is it.

Ries

Oh god, I love this! Do I want to smell like a pissy unwashed homeless...? I guess I do... The smell of wet soil, a filthy beast rolling in vetiver, a leathery/amber from the labdanum binding it, with just surprising fresh whiffs of lemon and flowery weaving through...Sillage is crazy, longevity too... Wow, this is crazy stuff. Of all the out of the box stuff I smelled last few weeks of perfume cruising, this is not so much the most inventive or creative (there are great creations out there) but it's certainly the most invigorating, disgusting, heavenly, complex, over the edge one... This is a stench I wanna bath in, just 2 or 3 sprays on my wrists and I'm already in a cloud of it... I was already looking for a full bottle, the price is just way too crazy for me; cheapest trusted seller €189...wow. Will I go there? When the lottery is mine, for sure, otherwise it's a bit out of my league. But a 2ml tester once in a while, just to sniff this wild animalic grossness... <3

Hmm €130-140...that's more like it...

Gabriél_de_ATL

This one is not for the faint of heart or those who want to blend in.

I loved the opening, and it reminded me of fresh cut grass after 10 days of rain. It smelled green, alive, vibrant, and earthy, with a vague undertone of umami. But then at the 2-hour mark, o dear god.......First, let me state that I like Figment, but not for the reasons most others would. My family has a house and a farm in Nicaragua, and we are used to having animals all over the place. I am not kidding when I say that we have had baby chicks running through our house, sometimes a goat wandering around our courtyard, parrots, a turkey every-now-and-then, and dogs and cats, and of course on the farm there are horses, cows, pigs, and chickens. There is something actually very positive-smelling from all the combined animal smells, scents from the skin, and their "eliminations", it smells of LIFE. WE literally have the smells of birth, growth, and death, all combined in varying ratios, and I find comfort in this odor/smell. But I would not describe it as "pleasant". Figment doesn't smell like that, but it REMINDS me of that same feeling. After the mid-notes open up and the base notes start to become revealed, it is like birthing animals with all their attendant fluids and rotting organic material and "animal-generated fertilizer" packaged into a bottle. I could not stop smelling my wrist and forearm where I sprayed it, I was fascinated by the scent. Like mushrooms in a damp wood growing out of a rotting tree with animal feces nearby, and the wood was located downwind from a chicken processing plant. And I am not just writing words, I actually kept smelling my forearm every minute or two. This scent triggered something in my brain that made me feel like I was part of the animal kingdom in a very primeval sense. Words can NOT communicate this scent, you really must sample it. and I HIGHLY recommend you sample it first and examine it every hour to see how it evolves. And understand that while I was fascinated by it, I couldn't think of any occasion to wear it, so I passed it along to a fellow frag-head who loves the uncommon, and he loves it.

I don't know how to describe this, but I can definitely say it is Art.

Mystères du Château de Dé

I suggest Figment should not be tried once and dismissed. If it intrigues you at all, wear it 10 times before you let it go.

Today I'm enjoying another journey on Figment. It's narcotic and transporting, artful and intellectual. It's painterly. Just great. But you have to be open for that sort of thing, and in the mood, to boot.

Didn't I read that the brief was Himalayan impact - mountains, forests, temples, mysticism? I get that every time. Only the first wears gave me some piss and ammonia. Now, there are challenging passages, but often stunning vistas, too.

NiceLemon282

About as niche as it gets here. Reactions on the street will range from “stay away from me” to “hmm what is that” but you probably won’t be hearing “that’s nice”. To me, it smells like a box of old stale perfumes, makeup and cards you find in your recently passed away grandmother who hasn’t touched it in 20 years but possibly urinated in it once when she got stuck in the attic. Certainly interesting but possibly the most unbearable scent I’ve ever tried. MAYBE if you’re an eccentric old woman you could get away with wearing it.

Radiohed

Initial Impression: This fragrance reminds me of walking downtown in a big city where there are lots of homeless people living on the street - like urine soaked cardboard.

After a full wearing: The pissy animalic note is pretty much all I get from this and it stays throughout the entire fragrance. However, I found myself hating it less the longer it was on my skin, which felt like an eternity. This is a beast!

ginandrice

Well. WELL.

I’ll start by saying that Figment does open with, among other things, a minor sweet-floral accord that would probably be pleasant enough on its own. It’s just really hard to care about said pleasant floral accord when Figment is overwhelmingly dominated by the sharp and musky smell of urine.

Figment also has some prominent earthy dirt and grass notes, and on their own they could’ve actually been quite pleasant. Fresh dirt often has a paradoxically clean smell to it—a healthy, hale scent that can give one a feeling of well-being and groundedness. I can perceive that "healthy dirt" scent in Figment, fighting to make itself known. Unfortunately, those wholesome earthy notes are utterly overshadowed by the pungency of the urine.

On a swatch, I find the dirt and grass note is more dominant, while the urine is lighter and less oppressive. But even on a swatch, that urine note is just too much. It goes well beyond funky territory. It’s overtly and distinctly rank.

I actually washed Figment off before it could fade—something I almost never feel moved to do.

nickfromtino75

Amouage Figment for man.
I can not find this fragrance dirty or animalic as many say.I dont agree.
The only strange note i detect at the begining and at the end,is this from wet soil.Very realistic.
Has the freshness and brightness of lemons(tons of lemons)during the day and stay at least on my clothes for days!!
Manly, strong,unique and heavy.Only 2 sprays gays..

LordCharfield

Firstly. In no way whatsoever does Figment smell like Oud Palao! Really! Get samples if you don’t believe me!!
Anyway, this is my first Amouage and I admit that the £115 Black Friday price tag from AllBeautyUK was an influencing factor.
Needless to say, stunning packaging!
Well, I opened and sprayed. I got the damp soil note straight away. I wanted something off the radar and it is, but boy, is this challenging and not really in a good way!
For me, armed with positive opinions from the YouTube Frag Comm, I thought this was a safe blind buy. However, the experience is more like going into a run-down area in wet, damp weather, in the dark and coming across an alley way behind a row of virtually derelict houses. As one strolls down the very dimly lit passage, garbage and broken glass is strewn everywhere. A broken child’s bike and numerous piles of sodden clothing and discarded carpet line the edges of the walk way and seem to have absorbed the rank stench of urine and garbage.
Imagine if you tripped over, face first in this place, what sort of odour would permeate your nostrils. Well, there you go. Welcome to Figment!
My wife came home in the evening and didn’t comment for an hour, but as she was cooking tea (bearing in mind the olfactory overload from cooking garlic, ginger etc, she asked if I was wearing something. She said that she thought that when she arrived, something smelled as if it was rotting in the corner and that she wondered if one of our dogs had had an accident on the carpet!
I would advise that although I’m pretty adventurous and love Montale Black Aoud and loads of other similarly powerful stuff, this migrates so far from my idea of a scent, that I cannot see the point. I blind buy and sometimes I like, sometimes it’s not to my taste, but that’s fine. This is “out of scope” as a wearable scent!

abdelraufambutong

This scent brings memories from my hometown province in the southern Philippines. It smells like wet grass. I can see why there are votes that this perfume is similar to Oud Palao, maybe because of the labdanum on the dry down. I have both of them.

This is so earthy, animalic, and maybe fecal for some. I would wear it any day, any time and any weather.

indiekid82

i am new to the fragrance world and as such haven't developed a good understanding of the notes etc. But to me this smells like an old womans talc powder, maybe thats the geranium? have no idea why a man would want to smell like this

jantimren

I received this perfume about one week ago. It was my very best blind buy, ever! I loved it from the very first moment. I've been wearing it every day since. And I've to say, this is the most beautiful fragrance I ever experienced. It's so complex in how it's built up. It has so many different facets and the dry down is a real surprise. So, I already ordered a second one! I hope Amouage Figment Man will stay unreformulated over the time.

matty64

Right from the start, I’m smelling the geranium earthiness. Similar to Terre d’ Hermes but different in a good way. The lemon keeps the opening from going underground. As the fragrance evolves into the middle notes, you will get a civet or cumin or muskiness. If I hadn’t already owned Songe D’ Un’ Bois D’ Ete. This would have ruined or disgusted my olfactive discernment. I was rewarded with a beautiful, cascading smokiness of Sandalwood and labdanum. The ultimate dry down is worth the price I paid for this technically flawed but almost perfect journey, we’ve all come to know as “AMOUAGE.” Thanks again, Matty

jaber

I loved this fragrance from the first sniff. Its different and i find it very relaxing and i wear it very lightly at home watching TV and sometimes for bed...

It smells like earth or humid forest after rain .. Its nature in an amazing way.

I mixed this juice in my travel fragrance atomizer with a pure natural musk and oud fragrance that I mixed myself in a ratio 5:1 and Booom .. Its an unbelievable classy scent that gives a mix of oud, musk and earthy wood that ends with a soft oud that trails as you walk.

Its amazing by its own but i managed to create something unique out of it.

Everyone's saying Dali Pour Homme but I don't think so. I think they smell like each other for the first 10 minutes but then Dali dries down to a smooth patchouli and musk while Figment man stays sharp and screechy. This is really reminding me of Serge Lutens L'Orpheline though more than Dali Pour Homme. But as much as I'm enjoying my sample, I really can't see myself wearing it often. I can't think of a single situation to wear it, even if it was for a gothic party and I'm wearing all black I'd go Dali Pour Homme or L'Orpheline over this. Even if I was depressed this is like a running away to a cave to get away from it all smell lol. Cool perfume though, definitely worth smelling and a must try if you're into dark, moody, depressing perfumes.

SweetBriar

Smells very much like Bat by Zoologist. This one might be a bit smoother though.

Dirtyhoody

Stop the hate. This fragrance is for manly men that don't want to smell sweet and pretty. This is what I would imagine testosterone to smell like.

Paulmac1966

Super green fragrance. It reminds me of freshly cut wet grass and some old flowers that have been put into a compost heap just on the right side of rotting. I actually love it. Unfortunately my missus reckons it smells like rotting grass and is awful. Pity as it’s super discounted on Allbeauty.

brandonR

Want to break up the sickly sweet gourmand winter time monotony? Here's your ticket to the big game. Amouage Figment Man is the mafia of scents. Everytime you try to get away from it, you keep getting pulled back in.

I know the scent is way over the top sharp green, but I just can't stop smelling the back of my hand while writting this review. I must have taken over 30 whiffs so far. It's polarizing genius. A yin and yang of love vs hate.

If you like green powerhouses of the 80's, it's worth a sample purchase. Figment Man may grow on you the way it has on me. Time is the secret here. Although linear the entire way, time will allow you to understand this under appreciated sleeper, and have you coming back for more.

Darius HIldenbrandt

Amouage Figment Man.Very Amazing bottle and...very very awfull scent, absolutely not wearable (for me).it stenchs spoiled potatoes in dark wet cellar with a lot of mold...scent of death, negative darkness, destruction and body degradation...maybe there is too big overdose of ylang ylang , muscat and other chemicals?? Maybe... On the other hand this scent is good choise for those who want to use it like repellent! its my personal impresions:) maybe in future I will change my oppinion??? Maybe.but not now!!🙊💔

After some time I changed my opinion about this perfume.its very unique and amazing.I love it💙💚💋

If you’re an art enthusiast you should buy this.

Kuldeep S

performance- very good
smell- unique . like bug spray or powder insecticides(DDT) but in good way.
not for everybody.

mo-haider

Think rich, new, wet soil...honestly not a very pleasant opening at all. It slowly tones down some of that as it dries down and starts displaying those animalic notes but the dirt still dominates. On my skin though after about 6 hours or so, the dirt fades away and the animalic notes really start to shine; this is the moment when I start liking it.

Is this a scent I would ever wear in public? Nope, I am not that daring. But it is certainly an experience and you can tell Amouage really tried to steer this one very far away from conventional fragrances and to me it seemed more like an artistic pursuit than a people pleaser. I would go so far as saying that this is eccentric even by niche standards.

juljan

on me, as i step out of the shower, a few sprays of FM and i have stepped into late night london on a foggy night in front of a flower shop before the sanitation crew has picked up the heaps of damp semi dead flowers and cuttings. not so much "soil" despite a definite earthy quality, but more vegetal cum dirt. pulling up a decaying weed with the dirt clinging to the roots in little damp balls.

then i notice a pile of cardboard boxes getting damp. flat clean boxes, droplets of fog give a little lift to the wafts as they form a warm spicy apparition.

while the air is not terribly cold, you still adjust your coat and scarf a little tighter and savor the well worn fragrance you put on hours earlier.

edit, september 7, 2020. yup, cardboard.
edit, december 28, 2020. colder dry air amps the spice side. wonderful niche aromatics. earthy quality still present but not as dull.

SeaElle

For the first few minutes, I swore I was anosmic to this. Lemon, wet dirt...could that be it? I went about my business, forgetting I had it on altogether. At some point, I pressed my wrist to my nose and it had taken a hard left into animalic territory. Suddenly overwhelmingly heavy with urine and touches of geranium - as if a dish of potpourri were set in public toilet to distract patrons from the dominant odor of its human traffic. Yet, it is disorienting in its sex appeal. I shouldn’t want to keep smelling this, and yet I do. If your nose had a history tab like an internet browser does, I would feel compelled to clear it before leaving my room and going into polite society.

The animal note doesn’t seem to last to my nose - though it’s possible I just become accustomed to it. It seems to me to yield to the base over time, although shadows of it persist through to the end. I also find the initial lemon mostly dissipates, but it leaves behind some vague, sharp, almost metallic citrus impression in its wake. This suggestion of citrus, if not the actual smell of it, hangs around into the drydown also. Someone else mentioned menthol or camphor, and that’s what I get in the drydown also. It feels more like patchouli than woods, perhaps that’s the labdanum.

I’m not brave enough to wear skanky things like this in public, so a full bottle wouldn’t make much sense for me. But it’s a perverse private pleasure, for sure. It’s dirty, but there’s always just enough “freshness” surrounding it to stop it from downright filthy.

old danny boy

Definitely a fragrance that will divide people. I fall more down the middle, as it's grown on me. Opening is a bit harsh, reminds me of Musc Raveageur, but unlike MR, Figment doesn't get to a place that I really like.

Earthy, animalistic, wet wood in the forest is what I think of when smelling it. I do sense a certain strong level of quality in it; definitely not synthetic. Sillage and projection is strong, but I think wearing this you're more likely to be noticed, than really appreciated.

Definitely do NOT blind buy this.

2.75/5 for me.

EnterTheDarkness

Smells like depression.

Amouage Figment Man surprised me. It's not nearly as animalic and challenging as I expected. It's earthy, and I certainly get the soil tincture. I get a powdery citrus note in the opening and it's bright and lively - uplifting even. However, this fragrance dries down into something quite different. It turns earthy and this is where the soil note starts to present itself. Upon drying down, Figment Man turns into something exactly as it is named - a figment. To me it smells like a dead flower, rotten vegetation and very slightly fecal, though not nearly as pungent as it may sound. There is a certain beauty that is still there, but only a blemish. A beautiful and blooming flower, now dead and deformed. It smells (but only just) lifeless and this gives a very queer sense of beauty. A figment of what was once there.

At this point, Figment Man invokes the wrong kind of emotions in me. Its melancholic atmosphere unearths wistful thoughts. I don't want to smell like decaying petals, but I can't stop smelling my wrist. This is an unusual experience. It may not score very highly in the scent department as this is not something I want to smell like but scores highly with an artistic perspective. The packaging is lovely and for me suits the fragrance. One of the best presentations out of the entire Amouage line.

Performance is absolutely uncanny. Even after a shower, a bath and overnight I can still, although very faintly, detect the fragrance. Sillage and projection are also massive. Wear this if you want some alone time. This is perfectly unisex to my nose.

Scent: 5/10 (Satisfactory)
Performance: 10/10 (Beastmode)

Andy Panayiotou

The impression I get is of soil and some undergrowth recently upturned by passing wildlife. There's a noticeable bitter lemon in the opening that later turns into an impression of a cloudy atmosphere.
All in all, an animalic soil with a zesty opening that later turns into a smell of impending rain and thunder. The animalic and soil notes go on throughout, smoothing out a bit and giving a hint of sweetness after a few hours.

ffunch

It smells like potting soil. Not soil in the forest, but more something in a flower pot you got in a nursery, with some kind of fertilizer mixed in. But, strangely I like it, and find it very interesting, and it is growing on me. I need to wear it for a few more days to decide whether it is a must have. The potting soil is the most persistent thing, but on the surface it is sort of peppery and a bit flowery, and very close to the skin it is animalic. It lasts for a long time. My wife says it smells like something rotten, which probably is what will stop me from buying it.

Zeeshan777

Awesome fragrance.
Picture yourself hiking on a mountain trail where it has rained a few hours before.
The damp smell of the soil and drying leaves combined with a touch of lemon amazingly captured in a bottle.
Great performance, 9/10 for me.
Well done Amouage.

marcel2782

The opening is pungent, resembles urine to a certain degree. It settles in a smell of scented earth/dirt. Feels like the desert, somehow, like the endless dirt, camel fur, the heat of the sun and things like that. NOT your usual people pleasing scent.

kentabatinga

On me, Figment Man is dirt, soil. That soil/dirt you smell in a damp forest. You scoop the wet ground and the dirt smell gets stronger. That's Figment Man in the opening. The dry down is basically the same, but not as pungent. Figment Man is not as realistic as Demeter Dirt, but is similar. I like soil, I just would not wear it as a fragrance.

Muzoona

If you are disappointed because zoologist bat is discontinued, then this perfume is the best choice for you. Its 80% similar to Bat with extra animalic note with no fruits.

For me, Im not sure if I will have one. However, its very unique.

Jedai

When I first heard about Figment, I thought Amouage had been working on an original mix of fig and oriental notes... so cute of me! No, while Portrayal Man is a low key take on Dior Fahrenheit, Figment Man is actually vintage Kouros on steroids.

In the opening I get a bit of aldehydes although they are not listed, maybe because I already had expectations of some Kouros vibe. It's a smooth blend but the animalic note, which I guess is artificial civet, takes up a lot of space. So there is less going on than in Kouros, and it's not fresh at all even in the opening. I don't get the incense / labdanum.

Figment Man could be called Kouros Intense and, even though I loved Kouros back in the days, a 2ml sample is more than enough for me.

Salama78

I have figment man for more than a year.. what makes me write down my review is the rate this fragrance has here on fragrantica.. it is a low rating but with many comments wrote down, and this reflects how figment man is controversial but at the same time challenging..
I can simply argue how people react to fragrances, and I know that it is a very subjective issue..but I think fragrances SHOULD also be taken from the side of being a creation of ART..
Of course this will come against the crowd please sometimes and this should be taken into consideration too..
Figment man is not a crowd pleaser fragrance for sure..but it is a highly an artistic creation of a fragrance..I think it is made for someone decided to be away from the crowd.. someone doesn't like queues.. sleeps at day and lives at night..
Simply describing figment man as an animalic based fragrance with green notes mixed with florals..
Now animalic?? Yes, if no why do we love sex?!! Why people sniff underwears sometimes..?!!
The green note of vetiver here is so perfect to reduce the severity of cevit but never comes out from the dark side of the smell.. and floral notes give the balance of the whole scent to be accepted by humans..
My personal experience with figment man is that I find it a mystical figment..as it gathers the combination of good and bad, beautiful and ugly of me..
No need to speak about longevity and projection, etc..
Well done Amouage..
Note:
I write this review listing to the song by human league. Human ;)

intuit

Liquid lemony petrichor in a bottle.

The dirty vibe here isn't animalic, it's earthy. No Kouros to be found here, unfortunately for me. And even if the wet soil vibe is what everyone talks about here, the geranium that pervades throughout most of the scent's life keeps this smelling cool and sharply fresh instead of damp and cloying. A dirty freshie, if you will.

Not a crowd-pleaser, but I've worn it on different days and got contradicting comments from the same people who didn't know I was wearing the same fragrance. On some days, they love it. On other days, they find it too dusty or sulfuric-smelling.

I don't find this particular Amouage to be as opulent as their others, so skip on this if you're looking for a classy, dressed up fragrance. This is more of a casual outdoor-wear "freshie" with a very strange earthy twist.

vpetrovw

It is really interesting one,but still,I can't believe that perfumer made this :D it is insane, the opening smells like dead animal buried in the backyard with some flowers. After that it gets fine /if you`re 70-80yo/.
Still 5* for uniqueness.

*Edit: I can`t stand it,sillage is enormous. Needs to be scrubbed.

jaber

This is art at its best to me. Luxury mix of old and new, animalic with fresh, well balanced sophisticated, masculine, dominant and just amazing.. It's not suitable for extreme heat the. reminds me with elysium from Roja Dove but only better. 10/10

konkok

I LOOOVE IT ! Last and projects well. Smell like nature, wet soil in a sexy way. I feel rugged, whenever I wear it

godfrapp

This is simply amazing, love it - a scent that is unlike anything else! Judging by the majority of reviews here it's not for everyone, but I'm perfectly fine with that - more Figment Man for me! :)

samswim

OMG!!! Had to have a shower, I could not stand it. This was kind of OK at first, very sweet and flowery, a bit much but OK. After an hour or so I smelled like I hadn't washed or bathed or had clean clothes for a year, dirty unwashed body. Nasty!

It instantly reminded me when I was cleaning, dirt, fallen leaves, and pulling rotting plants at the back of an old barren mango tree. The earthy notes and fecal matters overpower the beautiful notes at the back.

louis.lee

They must've made a mistake with the name "Figment", it should've been named Amouage Fecal, because it smells nothing but fecal matters.

What were they thinking!

atlaseetschristmas

When I first smelled this, I immediately thought "Kouros with a dirt floor". Sort of a luxury outhouse if one could conjure up such a thing in their mind. Over time as I've familiarized myself to this more It's actually got more of a naturalistic sort of cavernous quality, wearing it now I can practically hear the echo'd drips of moisture from a distant bunch of stalactites.

Figment starts out with an odd lemon liquor opening which immediately burns off to reveal a stunningly accurate geosmin accord, warmed up underneath with a sort of mildly urinous animalic muskiness. The rest of this (long wearing) fragrance is sort of a dance between an earthy soil/mildew accord, a sort of slightly fresh mildly lactonic sandalwood/labdanum sweetness, and the aforementioned animal notes. The fun of this is definitely living with it and sniffing it as it evolves from one quality to the next and then back around, it seems especially responsive to humidity and body heat to me.

While Fate seems to be the one that everyone labels weird or challenging when in actuality its structured very accessibly and almost somewhat generic, Figment actually is a very weird and challenging work. This is a bold move coming from Amouage who tend more towards the luxurious than the overtly experimental. I could see this coming from an indie house (and I suppose in a way it already has from Zoologists bat- although I think this may be even better as it rids itself of the sort of salty savoury rotten fruit accord of the latter). All in all, a challenging and rewarding wear.

Oh, and the bottle and packaging are fantastic, perhaps my favorite of all of the masculine Amouages. It's got a sort of funeral-home baroque vibe. Very pleasing.

Harlem_Shaikh

Figment Man goes on smelling of murky lemon mixing with geranium leaf and pepper. As this accord burns off, an acrid smell arises: a mix of more peppe, damp earth and water-saturated stucco. In mid-development there's moss, incense and a hint of woods more pine/cedar/guaiac than sandalwood to me, and then a medicinal/camphorous aroma comes to the fore before blending with mild musks. No note in Figment Man stands out, or smells like its usual, readily identifiable/predictable self.

This is a very unique and a masterpiece from the house.

First of all this is not a perfume for compliment gathering but i can say this is an art for real perfume lovers !
So if you are looking for a perfume that brings for you good and positive compliments dont even sample this !

First you spray it you get really zesty and natural lemon (that presents all over the perfume life )along with geranium and pink pepper
and this composition in top notes is familiar if you have tested interlude man before , then the next stage vetiver and animalic notes comes out (if i want to compare this stage to sth natural in narure and give real feeling i can say its a scent like roots of wet plants ) that is really odd then earthy notes complete this perfume (i get a little oud at base notes).

Here every single note that you get in top and middle you can get them also in base notes
i mean as times goes on every single note appears one by one and stays in the ring.

In term of longevity and projection both of them are great and you get Amouage type of projection and longevity :))

ajagrze

Work of Art. Period. Cuddles to Amouage for daring to create sth this far from the current crowd-pleasers. I do see why this is not for everyone. It's haute parfumerie. Forget 'bout all the faux niche, ludicrously expensive phoney brands which have flooded the market in the past few years. Amouage stays true to its guts. Unlike so many others, unfortunately. Do I find Figment Man unwearable? Not at all. Not any less than Musc Ravageur or Timbuktu anyways, the perfect mix of which this one, imho, is. Earthy + animalic? C'mon, guys! The idea is friggin' brilliant and it pushes the boundaries of the familiar, the way all the truly great perfumes - Angel, Tubereuse Criminelle, Insensé, 1740, CdG2, and so many others - used to, remember? Yes, it's not goin' to garner as many compliments as, say, Sauvage or Bleu (shame, shame, shame... to Dior and CHANEL, of course). Does it mean it's worse? Well... let me put it this way: Is "The Sound and the Fury" worse than "Fifty Shades of Grey" just because it's less popular nowadays? I don't think so.

blackredcat

This is one of the perfumes that gave me quite a shock. And not a pleasant one. I had heard of it from someone saying it reminded him of unwashed sweaty feet after a long march. I was curious how this could be and tried it. It hit me from the start with some sharp notes that finally evolved into something reminding me of mouldy rotting beetroot. And although I only put only a spray, at about 6PM, I barely could sleep that night, as at every turn in bed I got a blast of that stench that made me feel like I was sleeping with my head in an old, never cleaned, trashbin. About noon next day it became quite pleasant and interesting, but I had to go through those first 18 hours before getting into that. So this is a no, thanks.

The potentialities & contingencies of subjective chemistry are endlessly perplexing. On me I get very little animalic qualities, and it’s for those qualities that I ventured toward Figment, so sadly I suppose I’m disappointed. This is why you should never trust reviews over what’s actually contained in the bottle, I guess; animalic accord is mentioned briefly, and that’s the most it ever shows itself, on me, just ever so briefly. The opening is fun but brisk, lots of little gnarly bits so well blended that it’s a very well-curated low-risk adventure, really. The dry-down is why I’ll continue wearing this. On me, it’s so charming. Like honey-kissed flesh autumn, a snack of green tea and salted plums. That’s the combined end result of the dry-down on my neck or on my forearm. It’s a charming mixture of sandalwood and geranium and vetiver and labdanum. Only wish it were more animalic, more earthy, and also more potent. I can’t even notice it on myself after five or six hours.

tayyabforyouth

I love the soil note in this but really dislike the animalic note (apparently goat hair tincture). Bat by Zoologist with its mix of soil and fruits is much better than this. A nauseating perfume really and has insane performance.

This seems to be Amouage's attempt to do something with their now discontinued and very expensive Amber attar which has a heavy ambergris note that, to my nose, is a bit too pungant. This one opens with an earthy, soily smell mixed in with an animalic, strong and natural smelling ambergris as well as hints of honeyed civet (the kind found in Dior's Leather Oud) which quickly dominate the fragrance. There is also a noticeable dry grass (vetiver?) smell and sweet sandalwood in the background which makes the whole concoction wearable albeit in small quantity. What characterises this for me is soil, ambergris and dry grass. Apply in moderation and it is beautiful, especially in the drydown, put too much on and you risk smelling like a farm.

marioslg3

Truly unique earthy/soily animalic perfume but not for all. It is a love or hate but you have to wear it a few times to get into it. Initially i didnt like it but now im excited how unual and well composed perfume is. Wear it with pride in a cold raining day and be the one! Smells like soil amd gets honeyed animalic more and more up to the end. Projection and longevity... Beast!!

smokysymphony

Amouage just went too far with this one..

From the beautiful Reflection, unique Memoir, and luxurious Epic to the unwearable Figment.. I just hope Amouage get it together..

siomes

Very disappointing from the house of Amouage. This is super light on my skin compared to other Amouage’s and the animal notes make this super nauseating. During the end of the drydown it becomes sweet and also a very ambury but by then it’s almost dissapered. Glad I didn’t blind buy this as I was going to.

SmellMyCheese

edit: Bought for the collection given it's discontinued and I got a good deal. I think these days with my nose much more trained to niche I can handle this better but it is still not one you'd put on as a pleaser :)

----

Starts off with a very pronounced earth note which reminded me heavily of Molinard Patchouli and a little of Zoologist Bat. A real wet compost type of smell, not very pleasant. After a while the drydown takes the earthiness down from intolerable to compromising levels so it works a lot nicer with the rest of the notes. At this stage it’s like a mossy and woody vetiver and patchouli mix with a touch of leather, not too bad in this form. As time goes on these notes get mellower and sweeter and it turns quite pleasant.

Overall it’s a bit too tough to wear and wait for that deep drydown through the extremely strong earth tones.

senpai

this is earthy, animalic and very potent. unique. i understand why people don't like it, but for me it's very good. one of the few niche fragrances that i like from top to bottom.

i smell something dirty, but in very good way. hard to describe.

after couple of hours it gets little sweet and spicy.

only downside is versatility. but it's only for me, so no problem.

damienthoresson

A truly beautiful animalic fragrance that feels like Bracken... on steroids. With civet. That smells like faeces. I actually love it so much. Its planets away from Figment Woman, which is not unusual for Amouage but the two are entirely unrelated. Which is good, FW was hard to get fully for me. This is a leathery, foresty fragrance that I can't stop thinking about. Need!

Erok32

@Morgoth01 How are dislikes unfair? Reviews are subjective, so if there is a dislike option, and one happens to dislike this fragrance, then what's the problem? Being that scents are subjective, then the fact that you love it is great for you. Hopefully it quickly gets discounted so that you can stock up.

Ladios

I have sampled this a few days ago. Oh my God. This is strong stuff, not for children. It is earty like real dirt, and everything else smells animalic from middle to base notes. Skanky, dirty and smelling like animals in the jungle.

zesty_calco

At the opening I smell earthy, animalic, musk and florals. The musk has just a hint of unwashed armpit. This quickly takes a back seat to bright lemon, powdery germanium and a sweetness from the labdanum. Undertones of the stankey animal musk linger that remind me of Kouros, Jovan Musk, Papillon's Salome and even Muscs Koublai Khan. During the drydown I smell the Amouage incense. After reading other reviews I was expecting something wilder. The musk note is strange but well in the background.

I applied this from a dabber sample vial. It has been my experience that Amouage (and most) scents perform much better from a sprayer. Sillage and projection were average for about three hours before becoming soft. Unisex leaning masculine. Not terrible for work and I don't find it sexy; a casual scent that's actually not too difficult to wear. This would probably work well in most weather. To my surprise I liked this quite a bit. It uses some interesting, maybe weird notes in a nice composition. Lots of evolution as well which is fun. For the price I expect this to perform a bit better but it could be my application method. Not interested enough in a decant but a nice Amouage.

felipebizarria.1

A modern take on Musc Ravageur? That's my first impression.

Animalic/spicy fragrance .

I am trying out the amouage line to find out why it has such a high price and see which suits me if any. I tried out this figment yesterday evening. It certainly different from what I am used to like ysl kouros or la nuit homme or dior homme intense. This smells simply like a few hours after it has rained on a dusty untared road in west africa where I am from. There is a hint of wet rotten wood and just a faint hint of geranium. The other ingredients like lemon and labdanum are not present for me. Once in a while you get this strange sweet smell for a second or two but this parfum has no vanilla in it.
i don't know which ingredient is doing that. The sillage is really enormous. Woke up in the middle of the night still smelling this parfum and a day after it is still just so strong in the shirt i wore yesterday. You just have to be a confident man to wear this parfum.

vaibsankhla

I smelled it roughly 6 months ago ( see my previous review).
Since then I bought it!

To anyone who says it’s going to offend, let me tell you this- I wear it to the hospital (2 -3 sprays) so far no complaints and actually had someone compliment me!!!

Smell is so complex

Opening
GREEN DAMP COOL MOSS growing on in a dewy forest ground.

Middle
Earthy mossy Animalic note shine through with undertone of soggy wood.

Dry down
Earthy sandalwood with slight vetiver comes out. Not a creamy sandalwood.

My brother recently commented that he smells sandalwood coming from somewhere, I was so impressed (as he has no interest in fragrances!!)

I am still getting used to it. Definitely one of the ones that takes time.

Bit old school macho
Powerful
Performance 8/10 (last around 6-8 hours)
Occasion - dress up only
Age 25+

Earthy humid green!

Amazing presentation too!

8/10 overall
Amouage doing what they do best

This one was an odd ball. Putting it in basic words, and sorry if i offend anyone who loves this, but its a horse piss on dry soil scent. Exactly the moment when clouds of dirt come up after heavy drops hit it and mix with the smell of yellow liquid. Who ever worked on a farm, or know horses, will understand. Who never been in such a situation, wouldn't guess, and technically, anyone can pull it off. Its not horrible, just different.

trippy

in tne blistering sun this monster changes shape and the animalic, musky and earthy aspects get more sensual, so if you want experience this juice in another wonderful dimension try it in a very warm evening, you will be pleasantly surprised!

Jwhdz1

I have to admit, I've been torn on this one for quite some time. It's been on and off my want list several times since its release. Something about it is quite captivating and whenever I test it from my decant, I can't stop sniffing my wrist. The main problem I have with Figment is that, for the life of me, I would never know when or where to wear it! Comparisons to Zoologist Bat (which I own) are valid, so owning this too would feel redundant in my collection. Another thing is that sadly, something about it feels incomplete and leaves me wanting for more - If only it developed just a little more unexpectedly it would already have a place in my collection. But.....MAN!!! Do I LOVE that gorgeous blue bottle!

b.gracious

Scent - mentholated soil incense .

Season/Time of Day - I prefer to use this one in the colder months, day or night.

Projection - I did get noticed, I didn't get a compliment.

Longevity - I get 12hrs consistently.

Vlud

Right from the start you smell heavy animalic and earthy notes. Not much movement, it stays pretty much the same throughout its life. I don't detect much complexity in this one.
Figment has a primal, raw vibe but sadly is very hard to find a suitable occasion to wear it as it can come off repulsing. Smells quite dirty :) Sorry Amouage, I didn't like this one.

hatandbeard

Figment Man opens up huge and feral! Bright, fresh lemon. A throaty, spicy pepper. Deep animalic notes of earth and soil. I’d say that the ‘animal accord’ listed has a lot of civet in it with a muskiness that is slightly urinous in a very subdued, completely non-offensive way. As it dries you can begin to detect the subtlety sweet geranium come through along with some wet woods. The woody notes almost smell like old, dry, dead wood that has been dried and rehydrated multiple times over the years as it lay on the ground in someone’s flowerbed somewhere, and the labdanum present isn’t the sweet, gummy resin that’s secreted by our friend the rock rose plant, but is more like the cistus labdanum oil that’s made from the steam distilled leaves from the same plant. It’s a very bright/fizzy green, almost camphorous smell that’s robust and sharp. All of this excitement mixing together reminds me of gardening, fresh overturned earth, and being outside in the wet, springtime months. As it dries down further you lose the lemon and the pepper, but a smooth and smoky vetiver emerges in the background that sits beside that damp earthiness that stays present the entire duration of the fragrance. It has a vintage Kouros-like kick to it that’s definitely not typical of a lot of current fragrances on the market, and people that tend to like very robust animalics that long for vintage style fragrances, but are open to a modern twist, should definitely try this. I can see the comparison when people mention Zoologist: Bat, but the comparison is fleeting at best and can only be made because of the dampness of the earthen accord. Figment Man is far more complex and is more reminiscent of actual dirt/earth rather than the synthetic wet drywall-like note I got from Bat. I’ve also recently had the pleasure of getting to sample some beautiful mitti attar and I don’t know if that’s what Christopher Chong and Annick Menardo were going for, but I want to say that Figment Man is almost like an extremely amped up and more complex interpretation of something like that. This is a must try for anyone looking for realistic green earth scent, but be warned...this is definitely not for the faint of heart!

NZFH

@Jarrock32 - quite a few reviewers elsewhere have commented on this similarity to Bat (the earthy aspect).
