Received my 170ml flacon today, which I'd ordered blind online.

Ahhh... Now I see what this fragrance is supposed to be. It doesn't smell like lemon drops, lemon zest or Pledge; rather it is meant to be an extremely bright, scintillating cloud of sparkling, airy aldehydic freshness. Neither lemon or ginger are candy-like here, alluded to dumbly and directly; No, they are part of a brilliant, oldschool, multi-citrus Eau-de-Cologne type scent, completely devoid of sweetness. (I detect supporting notes of green lime and orange).

It really cannot be compared to other lemon-forward scents, like L'EAU d'HADRIEN, ACQUA VIVA or Mancera LEMON-LINE. Rather, it's closer to a scent like Nina Ricci SIGNORICCI, or, as suggested below, Guerlain EAU DE FLEURS DE CEDRAT: linen-crisp, aldehyde-bright, ship-shape and no-nonsense.

Interestingly, the drydown of LEMON AND GINGER reminds me very little of the original 4711 (blue and gold label). The neroli is only hinted at here, where it's focal in the original.

Absolutely magnificent stuff, especially for the price. This is the kind of scent you want to keep in the fridge and apply as a pick-me-up in warm weather.

If you have any experience at all with perfumery, you know that a citrus cologne like this one isn't going to last a long time on the skin... Highly recommended.

I bought this perfume many years ago and I am still using it. It’s a less embarrassing perfume where I can wear anywhere, like work. I do not like to smell other peoples perfume esp if mixed with their sweat; they don’t know but it smells awful. This scent smells fresh and clean but has an intimate sillage and dries down to a toilet cleaner scent. But reason I bought it was it’s bright genuine lemony burst smell which I loved. To be Frank I hardly smell any ginger. Fresh’s Sugar smells like this one but I’m thinking that brand has longer lasting fragrance. All in all I still would wear this till it empties; it’s a very unassuming scent and I don’t mind me being the only one that knows I sprayed something

ANNAFRYS

These fruity veggie mix do the job to me the composition is brillant like indian ayurveda two ingrediens keep your spirit; vitality and good well being. Like I said previously 4711 its not just perfume its a Healing Aromatics.

DaisySniff

This is such a refreshing, really good lemon with a hint of ginger. It is so simple, so pure and that’s exactly what I love about it🍋
Very refreshing and uplifting without being sweet or bitter. I think it works on cooler summer days aswell.

thecellophaneflower

A good lemon/ginger fragrance is surprisingly hard to find. It seems so simple and yet...this is one of the only pure citrus & ginger perfumes on the market. For the price point - it's definitely worth it. The longevity is poor and the notes are simple (as listed) but...this is a great citrus fragrance that smells natural. Not sweet, not artificial.

windchime_00

Very crisp and sharp, maybe too much so at times. Not sweet at all which is often my preference. The opening smelled like Lemon Pledge cleaner, but that didn't last at all, then I got the very, very fresh lemon & ginger as promised.

Not sure how I feel about it at the moment. I sampled Molecule 01 + Ginger the same day and I much prefer that one tbh, but this one is still nice!

miles178

super lovely lemon ginger ... and for the best price!!!

MAKSTR

Like almost all scents in this series. Sharp lemon with ginger at the back fades in 30 mins.
I layered it with Azzaro Ginger Lover on my forearms and it turned out great, ginger was slightly amped.
Both are weak on my skin so for an hour or so I enjoyed both with pretty good projection.
Scent 7/10
Sillage 8/10 short but heavy projection
Longevity 4/10
Value 8/10 Great for layering and mood uplifting if you like citrus.

aemilien98

Definitely agree with others about the lemon cleaner opening, but that was when I smelled it for the first time.

My nose has gotten used to the fragrance and now it smells more like a lemonhead candy on the opening. I love this fragrance… The lemon isn’t just the star of the show, it upstages the ginger, but it is still noticeable.

This fragrance puts a smile on my face whenever I put it on. Have blood orange & basil coming in the mail tomorrow. Can’t wait to smell that one :)

Fleurdel

I guess i've to review this because I've had this for some time and would be like my signature everyday scent. I think this just sprays on and disappears, I cannot really track the sillage of this. I just wanted an unobstrusive scent that won't attract attention, this was it because I was attracted to the clean scent of ginger and lemon. I would say this one would just be a 'put on for the moment' scent but it is really pleasant. Does not have any lingering notes, which can be sickening.

sitingqueen

Clean and refreshing citrus with just a hint of ginger. Very lemony top notes disappear quickly. This is a skin scent within 45 minutes, so suitable for a personal “refresher” and inoffensive for office wear.
Very agreeable in hot humid summers. 3.4 oz can be purchased for less than $40 so it can be reapplied during the day at reasonable cost. Much better than a “body spray” as it is a quality and well constructed fragrance.

s.cooke

Love this so much, it's the only frag I ever finish and repurchase. It travels offshore with me. Sure it doesn't last long or fill up a room but I use it in a close environment with other people where beast mode would be inappropriate. Energizes me in the morning, refreshes me during the day and relaxes me before bed. I will never be without it.

m_khosi_m

Sharp lemon opening and a bit of ginger on the dry down. A cologne so I didn’t expect it to last, I picked it up for morning gym sessions.

Enrium

This cologne opens with sharp lemon that veers into toilet cleaner territory. It is joined by a natural-smelling ginger note, and then fades to black. That's it!

This is the most linear thing I've smelled in a while, with a name that does exactly what it says on the tin. Sillage is weak and longevity is fleeting. I suppose it's fresh, and likely layers well given its simplicity. Reminds me of lemon and ginger teabags. However, I can't even call this inoffensive, as my lemon-averse sister shuddered when she smelled it on me. I don't see the point of this one. 1.5/5.

violet violin

This fragrance is exactly what it says. More lemon than ginger in the opening, but after a few minutes the ginger comes in a bit more. I would say this is not “Meyer” lemons though, there is a distinct smell to Meyer lemons. This is just plain old lemon. But it’s nice and refreshing and bright.
I like to layer this with 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods and I am also going to try this with Mix Bar Bourbon Vanilla which I just got today to try out. Mixed with Vanilla Woods you get sort of a lemon iced gingerbread smell that’s really nice. Also I have layered it with Shalimar to brighten and enhance the lemon in that and I think it would allow you to wear Shalimar when it gets a bit warmer outside.
However, the longevity on this is pretty poor, even when layering, you would have to reapply quite a bit. Sillage is low as well.

KittlesK

I tried to love it but sadly, this fragrance evokes memories of Mortein fly spray. Not what I was expecting from a $65 bottle of perfume.

kashmirattar

Sharp lemon oil at first spray, dry down is crisp young ginger. It’s clean and cheery. Very linear. It is exactly what it says it is.

I like to layer this with lavender scents for a little more depth, and smoky tea scents because apparently I like to smell like a hot cuppa.

stephen.redeker

Really bright shot of lemon and a bit of ginger, just like the name says. It does smell a lot like Loccitane Verbena. Smells very natural. It's perfect if you're looking for a light citrus for hot summer days. However, performance is low so you'll have to reapply it often. Sure, it smells like Lemon Pledge, but is that such a bad thing? We choose Lemon Pledge to clean with because it smells nice, just as we choose to spray this cologne on ourselves because it smells nice. I picked up a 50ml for ¥500 ($4.50) at Don Quijote in Tokyo, fyi. It's a nice cheapie, and unisex. Also, the bottle has a twist off sprayer top, so it can be refilled.

Coffee King

Anyone that has watched Family Guy will understand when I say this cologne is what I would imagine Consuela smells of, lemon pledge. I have to be honest I don't think it's very good. I have always loved Guerlain Cologne Imperiale as a post bath, summer freshener, this is in that bracket, but it's poor in comparison. Performance is very poor, maybe it'll work better in a hotter country.

AnitaHendricks

This scent truly smells like lemon and ginger. It's perfect during a hot summer day! I wonder if it repels mosquitoes.

Tamago37

It comes out with a generous "whoosh!" that reminds me of a can of soda being opened. Indeed, this has notes of Sprite/Lemon Pledge, but I actually like it. Late spring in Germany can be on the sweaty side of acceptable - so I spray this on when I want to freshen up. Mischief managed!

sopke

Reminds me of Loccitane Lemon Verbena (i suppose 2017 yellow edition). No matter the critisizm i like it for rare sunday occations to the city park and i would use it more often in summer if longevity would be better. But ginger is my treat, so..

ibibonica

this was one horrific experience, kati77 is totally right!

kati77

Strong toilet freshener!!!!!!! Lemon, lemon and lemon, then slightly ginger. Can not stand it, sorry.

Chrysolaga

I loved the Lavender & Thyme from this line and had to try many of the others. I do agree with some other reviewers that this has a lack of staying power. I also agree with Lana148 that this fragrance does resemble Lemon Pledge in an undeniable way, and so I think I would likely layer it with another fragrance. It layers beautifully with the grapefruit one from this line, I think, and the lime and nutmeg.

Like the rest of the 4711 Acqua Colonia line, this one does what it says on the bottle - it gives you lemon and ginger. Like the other fragrances, Lemon & Ginger is a linear fragrance - what you smell on your first spritz is exactly what you'll smell hours later. That scent is a pleasant, sweet lemon with a hint of ginger.

I love lemon notes and ginger notes, so thought I'd love this one. However, the ginger note is more of a candied ginger rather than the powdery ginger I expected. That makes it a little too sweet for my nose, but still a very pleasant fragrance.

The only negative about this fragrance is the longevity. I'm lucky if I get an hour out of it, and with negligible sillage - this is a skin scent on me. However, that's a problem I face with all of 4711's fragrances, so not a big deal. At this price point (I paid around USD 15), you could bathe in the stuff and not feel the pinch (figuratively, not literally). It's also available in a gift box with a matching shower gel, so you could also bathe in it literally, if you so wish.

raiza1990

This one is really sharp, but at the same time i also get a sweetness with it. The lemon is more proeminent than the ginger, but it is the ginger who gives this fragrance it´s special touch. It smells expensiver than it is and i think you can wear it at day or night.
The projection is ok for me, it sits close to the skin what is good for this type of scent. i would not like it to fill a room because it can really get agressive on the nostrils. Longevity, like with the other fragrances of the line is ridiculous. you have to reaply it every 15 minutes. They should really work on this at 4711. Even an eau de cologne should last longer than this.
If you enjoy this one, try Yellow Diamond by Versace and Saharienne by YSL. They´re both heavy citrus like this one, but with a flowery touch.
Note:7/10

Amos Jolthead

It looks like the overwhelming majority of people who try this either really enjoy it or recognize it's a good fragrance even if they might not like it. And for good reason. Lemon and Ginger is another fine scent in 4711's Acqua Colonia line.

Like everyone else has noted, it's quite zesty and refreshing and is a perfect fit for summer. This is definitely one of the better scents in this fragrance line.

Tracyarts

On my skin I get a slightly soapy lemon fragrance. Not sweet or juicy, and no ginger. Not quite lemon dish detergent, but leaning heavily in that direction. It works just fine for a daytime scent when the weather is hot and humid. Fresh, clean, bright, and light. Worth the discounted price I paid but I don't think I'd pay full price for it.

Lana148

Oh, this is such a happy, bright, juicy lemon with a tiny bit of ginger. Simple and delightful! I love it...,

but silly lemon PLEDGE ruined it for me. I can't stop associating this wonderful scent with a furniture polish:(

princess_buttercup

On me, the lemon is fresh and juicy and does not last very long. I am left with the faintest hint of spicy ginger, very close to the skin. The same happens when I spray on clothes I thought I was looking for a great lemon scent, and maybe I still am, but oh boy do I really want more ginger scents! They work well with me.

evacecilias

Starts of very true to the lemon.Fresh.
A little lemon pie comes along to play but
the ginger is really shy.
It all just dissapeared within a couple of hours...

mamiman

On my skin this one smells softer and sweeter than the original 4711 which I find more masculine. This smells like lemon candy and I don't get much ginger.

melancholybaby

A bright, clean lemon; as the dry-down unfolds, there is an undercurrent of a very discreet spice...can;t really make it out. The lemony note persists, and it is a great heat-wave fragrance. Long-lasting for a cologne, too (4 hours in, I can still smell it quite clearly.)

IsaIsabella

Paid S$17.50 for this which is around US$15. Originally I thought it wasn't available in Singapore but hey I managed to find it at a local obscure perfume store!

Opens up like a stuffing of sour lemon candies. Very refreshing, suited basically for a hot humid day. Then as it dries down a half hour later, there is a muted lemon scent that almost reminds me of a lemon scented detergent we have here called Mama Lemon. The ginger note isn't prominent here unlike Bvlgari's BLV. Rather, it lends a mild touch of warmth to this scent.

I initially thought it smelt like my L'Occitane's Verbena but when sprayed side by side, L'Occitane's woodier and its lemony note lasts longer. However, 4711 is dirt cheap compared to L'Occitane (I paid $37 for .6 oz bottle!!) and you can always happily respray it. It comes in a bottle where the cap can be removed so you can easily decant and bring it along.

And this honestly don't smell like the original 4711 until the dry down where I felt there was indeed some similarities with the original except the original was more complex, powdery and medicinal. Maybe I'm just delusional.

Verdict: great, affordable citrusy fragrance. Wouldn't hurt to try.
Longevity: (edited) 3-5 hours.
Sillage: Moderate for 30 minutes. Soft thereafter.

tessture

Smelled like a laundry detergent on me. It's clean and bright, but really smelled more like product scent than perfume. Might be appropriate only seasonally or geographically.

viewdemonde

During a heatwave in Brisbane - indispensible!!!!!

diddyscafe

I currently live in South East Asia, and during humid, hot afternoon (and sometimes, night) I just don't feel like wearing something heavy. This scent is IT! I rotate this with Clarins Eau Dynamisante and Elizabeth Arden Green Tea. Being the cheapest of all (about US$27 for 170ml), it is actually the longest lasting with amazing, amazing sillage, I can actually smell it on clothes for days. The lemon & ginger is the best of the line and is so refreshing, it makes me feel and smell like I've just showered even when I'm rather sweaty.

bbbonbon

I tried this one last week with the orange and the rhubarb ones and I have to say I was very surprised, they're all a lot nicer and softer than I first thought. But in a few hours, the lemon and the orange ones had the same drydown, the old lady soap smell, Which I can't truly say I really like.

Habanita

@srimati: In Germany in Kaufhaus and Karstadt stores.

For people who like a "cheap version" of the Aqua Allegoria scents, this might be an option. Since I'm not a lemon fan, this one is not for me.

srimati

Where can you get these?

Zaleska

I tested 5 colognes of this new collection and they're simply delicious! Lemon and Ginger, as COSMICSCENTS said, smells like a lemon candy. Perfect for after shower, very invigorating. But...yes, the lasting power is terribly poor. 5 minutes and gone!

delphine67

I deffinitly want to buy one from these line. Dont know wich one to choose. This one seems nice. and about the staying power. its a colonge for refreshment, not a perfume

COSMICSCENTS

YUMMY!!! IT SMELLS LIKE LEMON CANDY, CITRUSY WITH A HINT OF SUGAR. IT DOESN'T LAS VERY LONG ON THE SKIN THOUGH:/
