24 Ridiculously Good Beauty Looks From the Spring 2019 Runways
Of all the ways we'd describe the hair and makeup looks that come out of Fashion Week—phenomenal, theatrical, innovative—"wearable" doesn't exactly rank high up there on the list. Technically speaking, it's not meant to. Designers commission beauty's top artists to create editorialized styles that complement the clothes. It's world building; they're bringing a certain type of "girl" to life, which backstage often translates to vague references like "She's a Bushwick party girl who was out all night and #wokeuplikethis" (i.e., the Wang girl or it's just-got-out-of-the-pool hair "but done in a glamorous way." To be clear, that's part of the runways' intrigue.
But every now and then, a fresh take on beauty pops up that not only feels wearable but doable. And that's not to say they're your basic no-makeup makeup look or messy waves. They're these: smoky eyes with an interesting twist, whimsical washes of shimmer, and downright fun ways to wear a ponytail. The looks from the spring 2019 runways were a mix of the two—some over-the-top, some attainable, all worth obsessing over. We certainly have been.
