While investigating border violence in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, Denver journalist Natalie Benoit is caught in a bloody ambush and taken captive. Alone in the hands of ruthless killers, she will need every ounce of courage she possesses to survive.

Betrayed by another operative, Deputy U.S. Marshal Zach McBride has endured a week of torture and interrogation at the hands of a bloodthirsty Mexican drug cartel. Ready to give his life if he must, he remains unbroken—until he hears the cries of an American woman.

Although Natalie is only a voice in the darkness of their shared prison, her plight brings renewed strength to Zach's battered body. With her help, he overpowers their captors, and they flee through the desert toward the border, the attraction between them flaring hotter than the Sonoran sun.

But past loss and tragedy leave both of them reluctant to follow their hearts, even when the passion between them reaches its breaking point. Faced with feelings neither expected, they fight to stay ahead of the danger that hunts them as forces more powerful than they can imagine conspire to destroy them both…

Forgotten about you?” He caught her chin, forced her to make eye contact, his gaze flashing anger, then slowly going gentle. “That would never happen. Never.

Oh Zack and I will never forget you too! Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

This book was just AMAZING! And I am so incredibly stupid for giving up on this series after book one. So, so, so very stupid

The story

On the way to a journalism convention in Mexico, Natalie's bus gets stopped by the Zetas, and they kill every Mexican reporter on it, while Natalie gets kidnapped. Zack is being held by the Zetas and tortured for information, and his cell ends up right next to Natalie's. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Even though he'd given up on himself, he still tries to help her get out any way he can, so they make a run for it together Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

She thinks he's a criminal, involved in drugs, while he's in fact a deputy U.S. marshal, but he can't tell her that, of course Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The most of the story is them running through Mexico, trying to get home in one piece, and I totally loved it! It was full of action from page one, lots of torturing, killing, running, having sex, falling in love, running again, getting saved, having sex some more and so on Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

She met his gaze again. “Please don’t let me down, Zach. I do not want to die out there in the desert.”
He drew her into his arms and held her close, partly to reassure her and partly because he couldn’t help himself. “If you die, angel, it means I’m already dead.”

Natalie

She has a sad story in the background which I'm not going to tell because you just have to read it in the book. But what I will say, it involves a dead fiance, and she never got over him. She finds herself in a cell, faced with possible rape and murder, and her only salvation could be the criminal next door, Zack Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

They manage to escape, but there's still the worst to come, going through the desert toward the American border Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

She trusts him, even though he's a criminal, and they get attached pretty quickly.
I really liked her, and the attitude she had with Zack when he told her they can't be together Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Zack

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

He is a deputy U.S. marshal, working undercover, and been almost a week in Zeta's hands, being tortured. He knew it was over, that they'd kill him soon, but then came Natalie. He just couldn't give up, and did everything he could to get them out. *swoon* He is just magnificent! I can't say how much I adored him Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

He is still troubled by his time in the Afghan war, and is basically blaming himself for being alive Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Natalie's the one who shows him he is worth it Photobucket
Oh yes, one more thing Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Zack is not a man of many words, but he seems to like one in particular when it comes to Natalie Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
can you guess? Yes, it's "beautiful" Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Babs, I'm gonna kill you, every time he said it I was in laughs Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Here's one of my fav Zack quotes, love his inner monologue Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

"She looked up at him, a hint of uncertainty in her eyes. “I’m probably not very good at this, but I want to taste you.”
The idea of his erection in her mouth shorted out his brain.
“Okay,” he said, stupidly.
Okay? Holy hell, McBride, you stupid idiot!
It was more than okay."

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The ending was just a wee bit sweet for me, but the action before it! Wow. I had tears in my eyes! One of my fav scenes is with the Tears there too. I guess I'm an action slut, cause I loved every minute of it here Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Just a great book, so glad I read it, now I'm definitely going back to the previous books Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
even though I broke my own rule of reading out of order Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I really enjoyed Breaking Point. Zach McBride was yummy, sexy and kicked ass. Natalie was brave, smart and sweet. I loved Zach and Natalie together. I think the only thing I didn't like about this read was Natalie's dead ex fiance. I don't mind dead exes in books I just don't want to feel like they are in a love triangle with a ghost. I felt Beau (Nat's dead fiance) popped up way too much in this book. I didn't feel like Zach was second best just that Beau was too much a part of the book for a dead man. I loved all the Marc moments I got. Marc is my favorite hero of the series so far. I just love how him and Julian play around with each other. The brotherhood and friend these men share is so cute. Overall a good read. I can't wait to start the next one!

Books like Breaking Point are the reason Pamela Clare is my favorite Romantic Suspense author. Yes, I know I sound like a broken record, but it’s true, and this latest installment of the I-Team series only further solidifies her place of honor in this genre. The story is action packed from the first page to the last and once again I was kept on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next, and once that was revealed, how they’d ever be able to get out of it. And when I say my heart was pounding and my hands trembling while reading this story, I’m not exaggerating.

I won’t go into the plot, other than to say that the dedication gives us more insight into the depth of Breaking Point than the cover blurb ever could:

This book is dedicated to the memory of the hundreds of murdered and missing women of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. You were brutalized and discarded like you didn’t matter. But the earth received your tears, your blood, your bones, and, like a bereaved mother, the earth itself cries out for justice. May the violence end and those who stole your bodies and your lives be held to account.

With all of Pamela’s novels we are given stories we can believe in, causes we can champion, and if Breaking Point is any different at all, it’s only in that the underlying truth the story is founded on is so heartbreaking. And while it’s true that there are hundreds of missing and murdered women whose names we’ll never know, we know of them, and they live on through Pamela’s writing. They are not forgotten.

Now, as those of us I-Team fangirls know, this wouldn’t be a Pamela Clare novel without a gorgeous, passionate, hotter-than-hell hero and Zach MacBride fits that bill perfectly, giving us plenty of burn-up-the-pages sexy goodness! Both he and Natalie Benoit are incredibly strong people, inside and out, and they had to be in order to survive the physical and emotional hell they’re put through in this book.

While Breaking Point has one of the most intense, exciting endings I’ve ever read in a romantic suspense novel, it is also filled with memorable and heartwarming moments. One of my favorites from this book also takes place towards the end when we get a candid, touching glimpse into the depth of the friendship formed between Marc and Julian, a couple of I-Team heroes from previous books. It seriously brought tears to my eyes.

If you haven’t yet read this series, you’re really missing out on some incredible stories. They’ll enlighten you, entertain you, make you laugh, sigh and fan yourself, and they might even move you to tears, but most importantly, you’ll finish the book knowing that what you read was well worth your time. And who knows, you might even be inspired to take a look around and see what you can do, no matter how small it might seem, to make someone’s life a little better. To make a difference.

I was incredibly honored to be part of Pamela’s “ride along” team, a few lucky souls who were invited to read the manuscript, chapter by chapter, as she was writing it. To share in this experience was easily, next to the birth of my grandson, the highpoint of my 2010 year. And to be so trusted was… well, I just don’t have the words to express what a privilege this was. Thank you, Pamela.

The I-Team reading order, so far:

1. Extreme Exposure
1.5 Heaven Can't Wait - a novella found in the out of print anthology Catch of the Day and on ebook
2. Hard Evidence
3. Unlawful Contact
4. Naked Edge
5. Breaking Point
5.5. Skin Deep
5.9. First Strike
6. Striking Distance

***BREAKING NEWS ON BREAKING POINT***

28 February 2011, Australia

ARC OF BREAKING POINT PUSHES I-TEAM-OHOLIC OVER THE NAKED EDGE?

An avid reader of Pamela Clare’s books and self-confessed “I-Team-oholic” , Lady Jayne, is one of the luckiest people on earth to have received an advanced copy of Ms. Clare’s latest thrilling instalment, through the Mission of Mercy ARC Program for the Bed-Ridden. Reports of the sounds of excited squeals from the reader’s home in Adelaide, Australia, is said to have been heard as far as neighbouring New Zealand. However, no correlation to the recent earthquakes sadly suffered by the devastated Kiwis has been found. Let us keep the people of Christchurch, the cyclone and flood victims of Queensland and Victoria, and all those affected by natural disasters, in our thoughts and prayers.

Though, it is not only the traumas caused by natural disasters that break our hearts. The horrors that humans inflict upon each other ravage our spirits. Pamela Clare’s dedication in her latest book reminds us of one of these horrors. “It is so touching that it will make readers’ hearts ache and may even cause their eyes to glisten…well, at least it did, for me...and it was just the dedication!”, said Lady Jayne.

“This book is dedicated to the memory of the hundreds of murdered and missing women of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. You were brutalized and discarded like you didn’t matter. But the earth received your tears, your blood, your bones, and, like a bereaved mother, the earth itself cries out for justice. May the violence end and those who stole your bodies and your lives be held to account.”
Breaking Point will grip readers from the start and is probably Ms. Clare’s most action packed I-Team book. Yet, like all the books in the series, it deals with meaningful subject matter, born from the author’s experiences as a newspaper editor and journalist.

At an interview at her home this week, Lady Jayne stated: “My 2011 started off badly with bronchitis, then discovering I had Glandular Fever (“Mono” in USA)… but receiving an ARC of Breaking Point has totally …MADE. MY. YEAR!!! I’m usually always behind on new releases in my favourite series, being Down Under. This is the first ARC I have ever received. For it to be one of Pamela Clare’s books? I am without words. Thank you again, Pamela, for another AWESOME read!”

“I LOVE this series! Pamela Clare’s I-Team books just work, for me,” said Lady Jayne. “They are not just candy, though they do inspire visions of yummy eye candy…” she said smiling, sighing, and getting a glazed look over her face for a few moments, before continuing. “But the backdrop against which they are set is never something trivial. They are important current issues that add depth to a sexy, romantic, suspenseful and movingly satisfying read. Her characters aren’t just sexy-as-all-hell, but they have their own pain they are dealing with, and have a lot of heart. Just the kind I love to read about! And Breaking Point is a worthy edition to my personal favourite Romantic Suspense series.”

Breaking Point will give readers “heart attacks” of the “WHAT?!?! Noooooooo!!!...” and “WHOA! Really??? Just…WHOA...” variety, heart pounding and breathless moments (of the suspenseful and other kind). And even if the dedication didn’t make you cry, other aspects of this book more than likely will.

Natalie Benoit, former resident of New Orleans is a survivor of Hurricane Katrina. Her story is just heart wrenching. Following the devastation wrought by Katrina, Natalie joined the investigative team (I-Team) of the Denver Independent as its crime reporter, replacing Tessa Novak.

Crime Journalist, Natalie Benoit

Natalie has beautiful aquamarine eyes

While on a three day convention on American-Mexican border issues of immigration, the drug trade and human trafficking, in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, along with her colleague, photojournalist Joaquin Ramirez, Natalie is taken captive by a ruthless drug cartel.

Natalie ends up in a dirty cell next to deputy U.S. Marshall, and former Navy SEAL, Zach McBride, who is also being held prisoner. The man is a true warrior. Together, they must find a way to escape. It will take all their strength and cunning to do so, and they must trust each other with their lives. There is nothing like being thrown together in such life threatening and challenging situations to brew a romance, eh?

Recreation of U.S. Marshall, Zach McBride, while in captivity

“This book was scorching HOT! And not just because they were in the prickly Sonoran Desert!” said reader Lady Jayne, during an interview at her home. “In fact, it contained one of my fantasies…” she said, blushing.

A desert waterfall, flowing after a thunderstorm.

The landscape of the Sonoran Desert is filled with… prickly things, bushes, bumpy terrain and peaks.

The “F**k You” cacti are a warning of how treacherous the desert is once the sun sets.

“I loved Natalie and Zach! They are both such strong characters and have been through a lot in their lives, both with tragic pasts that still haunt them. I loved when they began to open up to each other, and move on from their pasts. My heart ached for them. I really loved how they watched out for one another. The ending of this was just...WOW! Soo ... intense and ... emotional ... but I'm not giving anything away. You just have to read it for yourself! I also loved seeing the development of characters from earlier books - with their kids, pregnancies, the depths of their friendships... just “Awwww!”

Though Post Viral Fatigue prevented Lady Jayne from devouring this book as fast as she would have liked, it has aided in her recovery, uplifting her spirits. Sources close to Lady Jayne have confirmed how “beyond thrilled” and thankful she is.

It is no secret that I-Team fans are twitchy with anticipation for this one. In Lady Jayne’s humble opinion, “Breaking Point will be worth the wait.”

Hunky Jed Hill is the cover model for the book. It is expected that there will be worldwide reports of women suffering ‘heat stroke’, once they get their hands on it.

Shirtlessness and unbuttoned fatigues are a necessity for
survival in the desert.

Zach McBride a True Warrior and Hero.

If Jed Hill as Zach McBride entices you to read this book and you haven’t read the I-Team series yet, while each book does stand-alone (for plot and main characters), Lady Jayne recommends reading the books in order, as your reading experience will be better enhanced by doing so.

“Plus, Reece and Kara, Julian and Tessa, Marc and Sophie, and Gabe and Kat (and now Zach and Natalie join the ranks) are all amazing, individually, and combined! I love the moments in the later books where we see the interactions between the characters from earlier books. I really enjoyed the “Bromance" between Julian and Marc in Naked Edge, and we get more of that in Breaking Point, and now with the addition of Gabe,” Lady Jayne said, smiling, with a shimmer of tears in her eyes.

Or …if you just must fondle lick read the Jed Hill covered one, first, then Breaking Point is due to be released on 3rd MAY 2011!

“Though, that leaves enough time for you to experience Extreme Exposure. But you’ll want to have Hard Evidence (coughs)…in hand. And you’ll be desiring Unlawful Contact, quite badly, after that. Which will make you want to rush to Naked Edge… and in agony for Breaking Point, waiting for...release,” said Lady Jayne, blushing and giggling.

Pamela Clare’s 4th book in the I-Team series, Naked Edge, recently won the All About Romance Best Romantic Suspense for 2010, as voted by the readers. Though, Ms. Clare seems to be her harshest critic, as in her response posted on ARR she stated:

“Thanks to AAR and all the readers who voted for Naked Edge. When I got the news, I was utterly stunned. Naked Edge was a tough book to write and took a lot of risks, in part because I wanted Kat, the heroine, to be authentically Navajo. When I turned it in, I told my agent, in tears, that it was the worst thing I'd ever written. She told me I was crazy. For the book to be voted Best Romantic Suspense by AAR readers - I can't tell you how gratifying that is. Ahèhee! Thank you.”
Well, if Ms. Clare felt that way about Naked Edge, wonder what she felt about finishing Breaking Point ? Let’s hope she'll be in tears again... of happiness and satisfaction, that is... because as reader Lady Jayne says, “This one is absolutely another winner!”

In fact, Breaking Point received a starred review from Publishers Weekly, who had this to say about it:
"Clare’s fifth I-Team novel (after Naked Edge) sizzles with constant adventure and romance. U.S. Marshal Zach McBride is the unwilling guest of Mexican drug lords when he meets another prisoner, American journalist Natalie Benoit. The two join forces to escape and make their way across the treacherous Mexican desert toward the U.S. border. Their romance and mutual attraction develop as they share their unhappy life stories and dodge their enemies in one harrowing encounter after another. Natalie's initial fragility is juxtaposed against Zach’s stalwart nature as he helps unearth her hidden strengths and she encourages him to listen to his heart. Complex characterizations and a fast-paced plot filled with sensual romance and mystery make this a highly enjoyable read for newcomers and series fans alike."

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:

1. Natalie Benoit (Lauren Cohan), Zach McBride (Jed Hill), Joaquin Ramirez (Christian de la Fuente).

2. Special thanks to the author’s unnamed co-worker for igniting the fun double entendre discussion on the I-Team book titles, on Pamela Clare’s Facebook page on Weds, 23 Feb 2011, which was the inspiration for those used in this “News Article”.

description

Yup. Another high rating for another Pamela Clare book :D At this point I’m starting to sound like a broken record in my reviews for this series since I say pretty much the same things, but once again, this author is amazing. The I-team series is amazing. The amount of research and effort that goes into each and every one of her books is awe-inspiring, especially for this book.

“The seed of the story was planted several years ago when I [Pamela Clare] researched and wrote an opinion column on the femicides in Ciudad Juárez, where more than 400 women and teenage girls have been murdered, their sexually mutilated bodies found dumped on the outskirts of town or in the desert. Most of the murders remain unsolved, and more than 1,000 women and girls are still missing.

Try to imagine an American city--your own city, perhaps--having 400 unsolved sexual homicides and 1,000 missing women. It defies comprehension.”

That’s what I adore about her books (not the murdered and missing women part LOL). Her stories are grounded in reality and always inspired by a real life experience – often her own – and combined with her journalism skills, it gives her books a very authentic feel. Not just the romance, but the suspense, the action, the mystery.

Although I try not to play favorites in this series as all of them are great, I have to say that this book (along with books 3 and 4) I love just a teensy bit more than the others. For starters, this is the only book where a big portion of the story is not set in Denver, Colorado, home of the I-team headquarters. Not only was it a nice change of scenery, but it was like a fresh start for both the author to write and for me to read. The other books made me feel comfortable in the same setting and with this book in the tumultuous turf war zone in Mexico, the stakes are higher than ever before.

Another thing that was refreshingly different from the other books was that this one started out with the hero and heroine already knee-deep in trouble, and their aggressive fight for survival and getting back to US soil. I love that the author explores different levels of law enforcement through each of her heroes’ occupations, and in this book the hero Zach is a Deputy US Marshal (pretty much the highest level up there, topping even the FBI) who’s being tortured and interrogated by a ruthless Mexican drug cartel after being betrayed by someone he thought he could trust. On the other end, the heroine is an I-team journalist traveling to Mexico to report on border violence and she’s ambushed, taken captive, and placed in a grimy cell right next to Zach’s. Even though Zach and Natalie are attracted to each other, they don’t let it get to their heads. Their number one goal is survival and neither of them cut each other any slack while escaping and I just love that! Every moment of this story is intense and nail-biting, and despite this being the 3rd (or 4th?) time I’ve re-read this book, the plot still manages to take me by surprise each time I read. As I don’t want to end up spoiling what happens next in Zach and Natalie’s escape, this is all I’m going to say about the plot.

Here comes my absolute FAVORITE and most memorable part of the book (even this series!) and the author’s note couldn’t have said it better:

“It has been a goal of mine for some time to write an I-Team story in which the past heroes all play a pivotal role in the action, in which the stakes are so high that all of the I-Team heroes have to come together to keep the heroine alive. I was finally able to write that kind of story in this book.”

And she really delivered on that! If you’ve read one or all of the previous books in this series, THIS is where that previous knowledge and background on the other couples will pay off. Seeing Reece (former senator), Julian (FBI background), Marc (sniper), and Gabe (extreme sports jock + former ranger) and all their smart, passionate I-team wives come together to protect one of their own just makes me feel all emotional inside. Because somewhere along the way, these characters became more than just names on a page. They feel real. Their friendships, the heroes’ bromance feels real. There’s a scene near the end of the book involving Marc and Julian that made me cry, not because it was something epic but because of the sheer simplicity that spoke volumes.

The only reason why it’s not a full 5 star read is that it took me a while to warm up to the heroine Natalie. No character stupidity or anything on her part. It’s just that for the other heroines I got to know them a little through other books and the only thing I knew about Natalie was that she lost everything when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and doesn’t like to get close to anyone. Maybe that was the author’s plan to make her a little more aloof than the other heroines and have a fragile strength that appealed to Zach. Either way, I ended up loving her sweet character by the end of the book.

I seriously don’t know what else to say about this book that I haven’t already mentioned before. It’s definitely another smashing hit for me and another strong addition to the series that both longtime fans and new readers to this author will enjoy. Do I recommend it? Hell yeah! The rest of the series too :)

Breaking Point is the 5th book in the I-team series and just like the others, can be read as a standalone. However, because the other couples play a pretty important role in this book I recommend reading it after the first 4 books.

5+ stars – Romantic Suspense

Thoughts Before Reading:

HOLY @#$%*&@%^%@!!!! What a studtastically smokin' HOT cover hunk!! Y-O-W-Z-A!!

Mama likey! I just wanna lick up all that dirt! *naughty grin*

Thoughts After Reading:

There are 5-star reads, and then there are 5+ star reads, and Breaking Point is definitely the latter. Pamela Clare is one of my top favorite authors, and her I-Team series is without a doubt one of the very best in romantic suspense. There are numerous reasons why that is: the emotional, thought-provoking depth she conveys in her stories, the nail-biting, white-knuckle-gripping, edge-of-your-seat suspense, the uber yummy, tough, to die for alpha heroes, the strong, intelligent, capable, genuine heroines, the believable, passionate connection between the H/H, the yowza hot, intense love scenes, and the moving HEAs.

Breaking Point moved me to tears with the beginning dedication and the story grabbed me from page one and didn’t let go until the very, bittersweet, end. I loved Zach and Natalie! They were such complex, caring characters, and their relationship was evocative and poignant. They had off the charts, combustible chemistry, and their love scenes were need-a-cold-waterfall-in-a-desert, smokin’ HAWT! Whew!

I also loved the funny and touching moments between I-Team heroes Julian, Marc, and Gabe that demonstrated the strength of their friendship and added beautifully to the story. I can never get enough of Julian “Dark Angel” Darcangelo. *sigh*

It’s a powerful, thrilling, heartrending, and sensual romance with remarkable characters that’s not to be missed. I absolutely loved everything about it. It’s hard to decide which book is my favorite of the series because they’re all wonderful, but I think Breaking Point is a close second place after my sentimental favorite, Naked Edge. I highly recommend this series for romantic suspense fans, especially those who prefer them emotionally intense, action-packed, and steamy. Big 5 stars!

Zach:
(There’s just never enough Jed Hill hotness!)

Jed Hill Nice and Dirty

Natalie:
(Elsa Pataky definitely has the striking eyes to play Natalie.)

Breaking Point does not disappoint! Pamela Clare is on a roll with her I-Team series, and she's got everything right with this one, delivering a top-notch romantic suspense.

Starting with that cover (*thump-thump*), the brave beautiful heroine, the sexy, fearless hero, the suspenseful plot (filled with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing), the sadistic, depraved villain, the fiery, white-hot romance, the cliff-hanger ending...what's not to love...did I leave anything out?

Our heroine, 27-year-old Denver investigative journalist and New Orleans native Natalie Benoit (we met her before in Naked Edge), who lost everything important to her 6 years ago during Hurricane Katrina, has traveled to the Mexican border town of Ciudad Juarez to attend a journalism conference with co-worker/friend/ photographer Joaquin Ramirez. While on a bus loaded with her fellow journalists, a trio of armed men enter the bus, execute the Mexican passengers and take Natalie hostage to an old abandoned town. While locked up inside an adobe shed, awaiting her fate (will she be held for ransom, or will she be used by her captors?) and reciting nursery rhymes to keep her panic at bay, she finds out she's not alone. A man in the next "cell" is also being held prisoner, and his name is Zach.

Town where Zach and Natalie were held…

Zach McBride, 33-year-old Chicago native, former Navy SEAL and currently a Deputy U.S. Marshal is working on a case to capture Mexican human trafficker/ drug dealer/ perverted sleazeball Arturo Cesar Cardenas, the head of Los Zetas (a drug cartel), who is wanted for the murder of Americans on U.S. soil. Zach's betrayed by a female Mexican Interpol agent who has sold him out to the Zetas, telling them that he's stolen their shipment of cocaine. Now the Zetas are holding him prisoner until he gives up the info: who is he working for and where is the cocaine? Since Zach won't talk, they figure they can make him talk, by using a little 'electrical' torture. Zach is blindfolded, shackled, suffering from broken ribs, and gets a daily dose of "shock therapy" from a truck battery. But still he won't talk. He's prepared to die (just like his SEAL buddies who died before his eyes in Afghanistan) and resigned to his fate. Until he realizes that he has a cell mate. Now he must do everything in his power to help her...

That's just the beginning of an engrossing plot that has Natalie and Zach escaping from the Zetas and trying to make their way 40 miles through the Mexican desert and across an Arizona desert filled with drug smugglers and extreme weather conditions. Yes, their struggle unites them, their natural chemistry excites them, and they make good use of their limited time together (I'm thinking of that waterfall scene...whew). Zach can't believe this is happening to him. The connection he feels to Natalie is unlike anything he's ever experienced, but he's determined to fight his feelings. He's only allowing himself four days (the time it will take to get Natalie safely on US soil) to enjoy the pleasure that is Natalie. After all, there could never be anything lasting between a woman like Natalie and a man like him--she deserves someone who wouldn't be putting his life on the line every day, and that's just not Zach. He's tried the civilian life, and it just doesn't work for him. He'd only end up drinking his nightmares away again if he's not actively involved in some type of 'war'.

Zach...
Photobucket

Natalie's definitely developing feelings for Zach, and she can't believe how fast it's happened. There's been no one for her since her fiancee Beau, but it's been six years of mourning and she's ready to move on with her life, even if being with Zach and experiencing such untamed passion makes her feel a bit guilty. But Natalie's unsure of just who Zach is. He doesn't reveal much (to tell her the truth would be too risky for her--the less she knows about him, the better), and she knows there can be no future for them if he's into something that's illegal. But she can see that he's a good man...can that be enough? Zach tells her that they can't have a future, but Natalie's not about to throw in the towel yet...

Just when you think Natalie and Zach are out of danger, and that maybe all that's left to the story is them possibly working on their relationship, there's a bit of a plot twist. Natalie is still in danger, but maybe not just from the Zetas. But does someone else out there want Natalie dead, and if so, why? Will Zach be able to protect her, or is he too close to the case? And can he continue to resist her, even though he needs to stay close to her to protect her? Will calling in reinforcements he can trust (Natalie's friends Julian, Marc, and Gabe) be the difference? Will Zach admit that he deserves happiness, or will he continue to punish himself for something that wasn't his fault? Will Natalie give up on him, or will she fight for what she knows they can have?

No complaints about this one, it's all good. The writing is top-notch with plenty of detail, the plot holds up, the suspense is...suspenseful, the romance is scorching (oh my, the intensity of the sex scenes...); you've got your emotionally (suffering from PTSD and suvivor's guilt)and physically tortured hero, your brave, smart, sort of kick-ass heroine who is a lot tougher than she imagined; your thoroughly rotten bad guys; your supporting cast of protective alphas (that would be Julian, Marc, and Gabe) your cliffhanger/ final showdown ending where a couple of lives are definitely on the line (tear-time here); and of course, your sweetly romantic little epilogue that also brought a few tears to my eyes. I liked the fact that Natalie and Zach were both hurting emotionally, each suffering a little from survivor's guilt, and each helped the other heal. When Zach finally opened up to Natalie, breaking down in front of her, I knew these two were going to make it. All good stuff, all making the book un-put-downable.

Zach...again:)

What I would've liked to have seen? I wanted

So fans of this series, not to worry, this story delivers. And if you've never read an I-Team book yet (what are you waiting for?), this can be read as a stand alone. Now, is it my favorite I-Team story? Ohh, it comes close, but for me
Naked Edge still reigns supreme. That book just spoke to me emotionally and stayed with me for days after I read it. But for other readers of the series, this may be the one. What I can guarantee is that you'll find Breaking Point one very satisfying, sexy, suspenseful read, and a welcome addition to one of the best Romantic Suspense series out there. 4 1/2 stars

*Favorite Quote: "I think I've loved you from the moment you lifted that awful blindfold off my face. I opened my eyes, and there you were, the bravest, most beautiful woman I've ever known. You set me free, Natalie. In so many ways, you set me free."

**Some pictures "borrowed" from Pamela Clare's website.

***Be aware, there's a glossary of terms at the back of the book. I wish it would've been placed before the story, as I stumbled upon it by accident.

Now this is one time when you CAN judge a book by its cover! Breaking Point was HOT, sexy and even a little bit dirty. {{wink, wink!}}

The I-Team is hands down my favorite romance suspense series for many reasons, but one is how uniquely different the stories are from each the other. If you haven't found this series yet, the common thread is that each heroine works as an investigative reporter for the Denver Independent newspaper, and each story takes one of these ladies on a high octane adventure fighting believable bad guys and falling for a heart-pounding hero. However, the criminal rings and bad people are unrelated, so each book takes you on a brand new adventure with vastly different settings. I also love that the heroines in these books are always ‘normal’ too, meaning they are smart and tough, but not cartoonish. They are not fearless nor believe themselves invincible, in fact quite the opposite, but they will rise to the challenge when provoked. In other words, they are real women I can relate to.

In Breaking Point, U.S. Marshal Zach McBride gets tied up in Mexico – literally. Starved, tortured, blindfolded and chained to a brick wall, not to mention duped by a trusted agent who turned him in to the Los Zetas (a powerful organized Mexican crime ring), he has little hope of survival and bringing down Arturo César Cárdenas, the head of Los Zetas. Cárdenas, a man of many crimes, is wanted in the United States for the murder of Americans on U.S. soil.

Natalie Benoit, an attractive American journalist visiting Juarez Mexico for a three-day SPJ (Society of Professional Journalists) convention and tour, gets caught in the crossfire of what she believes is a local gang war. They take her captive, bring her to an old abandoned church where she finds herself in the cell next to a prisoner chained to the wall.

As you can guess, Zach and Natalie do escape and begin a deadly game of survival with the Zetas across Mexico. (The escape was so nail biting, OMG!) This story moves at a fast pace, but never slips on the details. You feel like you are right there. Zach must rely on Natalie as he nurses his health back from the injuries sustained while captive. They are two strangers who must now depend on each other for survival. The Zetas want Zach recaptured believing he can lead them to millions of dollars worth of missing cocaine, and Natalie may have a price on her head too.

This story had many layers, which kept me guessing and the pages turning. It eventually takes us back to the United States for what could easily be dubbed as the biggest show-down in this series yet. Holy crap, so much happens! The Zetas crossed U.S. soil once, and despite the risks, they are ready to do it again to ensure their secrets remain hidden and millions of dollars safe.

Zach and Natalie’s romance was wonderful to see develop. Both of them have damaged souls from past losses too grave to face. Despite the fast-paced action of the story, they build a slow, tender and heartfelt passion between them. The bone melting kind that explodes when they come together. (mmm, yum!) They were opposites in many ways, but made a very convincing romance between them. They had me in tears a few times too, especially near the end.

I have to give props to Natalie. She is easily my favorite heroine in this series now. I just loved her. She was smart, willing to push herself beyond her comfort zone to do what is needed to keep them safe, but not willing to take stupid risks. I liked how she was able to deal with her past demons too. Very realistic and touching.

Zach was a darker character with a damaged soul in need of healing and believing again – how can you not love a guy like that?!! The way he treated Natalie had my heart in my throat so many times! His back-story was heart breaking, but part of it included a small bit with his father that never gelled with me as I honestly never understood the full scope of his anger with his dad. You may more sense of it than I did, but if not it was a super small part that can be skipped over.

Past hero/heroines Reece and Kara, Julian and Tessa, Marc and Sophie, and Gabe and Kat all make reappearances too. Julian, Marc and Gabe play a significant part too, (but don’t worry if you haven’t read the previous books, you will be able to follow no problem.)

This was another fantastic addition to the series. Fans are going to have a hard time picking their favorite among the series, but no one will be disappointed with Breaking Point. It was that good! The story never slips on the details. It is tight, believable, and unpredictable – not to mention sexy, nail biting, and seriously HOT! Enjoy!

In full disclosure, I got this book as an ARC copy, but I would have paid full price the second it was released if I didn’t. I love this series and all things Pamela Clare.

I-Team reporter Natalie Benoit is attending a conference in Mexico when the bus she and Joaquin, her photographer, are riding with other Mexican journalists is attacked by members of the Los Zetas cartel. Her next reality is a dark, dank cell where she hears a man being tortured. US Marshal Zach McBride was betrayed by an Interpol agent who convinced the cartel that he's stolen a drug shipment. The two of them provide support to each other through the dark until the opportunity for them to escape arises.

This was one heart-stopping moment after another with lots of action, suspense and mystery. I was told this book was one of the best in the series and I wholeheartedly agree. The scenes are riveting and often tough to digest. There were a few twists that helped sustain the intrigue, along with the developing relationship between Zach and Natalie. I liked them both.

It's not an easy story and Kaleo Griffin's narration was just about perfect. I'm loving this series and this was one of the best to date.

***5 Stars***

"Sometimes the scar isn't on the outside. Sometimes it's on the inside where no one else can see it."

Right from the beginning this book grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. It's filled with pulse pounding action and heart melting romance. This book.....THIS BOOK!!

description

Natalie Benoit is in Mexico to attend a journalism conference. The bus she's on with other journalists gets ambushed by the Zetas, a Mexican cartel, and Natalie is kidnapped. Thrown into a holding cell filled with spiders, scorpions, rats and who knows what else, Natalie begins to panic. Who kidnapped her? What are they going to do to her? Can she find a way to survive? Little by little her haunted memories return of her ordeal in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina six years ago. The walls begin closing in on her and she starts to spiral into a deeper panic...until she hears a comforting voice from the other side of the wall.

Zach McBride is a former NavySEAL and current U.S. Marshall being held captive and tortured by the Zetas. His colleague betrayed him and now he's paying the ultimate price....torture in exchange for information. Too bad he's trained to fight, to never crack, to endure...if only his mind can hold on long enough for his body to finally give out so he can find some peace from his own past nightmares. But then he hears a commotion outside. A woman is thrown into the cell next to his and he hears the beginning sounds of her panicking...and then she begins reciting nursery rhymes. It's the sweetest voice he's ever heard. Behind the darkness of his blindfold, he has no way of knowing who she is, but he takes the chance and opens his mouth to reach out to her.

In the darkness of those cells, Zach and Natalie form a bond and hatch a plan for escape. It will take strength, determination, and sheer will to fight their way through the Zetas and find a way to escape over the border and onto American soil. Along the way, a passion ignites between them. Two lost souls fighting to stay alive find refuge in each other. Do they have a future together if they manage to make it through this ordeal? And if they do finally make it home, does that mean that the danger is over? Maybe the real enemy isn't in Mexico?

This book had me stressed out! I didn't know what was going to happen! Danger lurking in every corner, the risk of an ambush coming from any direction, not knowing who to trust, never fully letting your guard down....

STRESSED!!

I think what I loved most about this book is that even though Zach was your perfect swoony, Alpha badass hero...he had an equal counterpart in Natalie. The girl was just as badass! She was no wilting flower or damsel in distress. Sure, she had her moments of fear and doubt, but when the time came to act, she was right there in the thick of things holding her own.

But lets not forget about the romance!

As much as these two are fighting to stay alive, they're fighting to break free from their pasts. Natalie has been closed off since her horrific ordeal during Hurricane Katrina and finds herself feeling more alive than ever in Zach's arms. However, with the elation of finally feeling something other than grief, comes the burden of guilt, and it weighs heavily on Natalie. Meanwhile, Zach is a disheartened man after the loss of his team and brothers in Afghanistan. He doesn't feel he has anything to offer a woman, having come back from war only a shell of a man.

"There's something inside of me - it just doesn't work. I went away to war, but I can't seem to come back."

...the man who'd come home from one war only to find himself trapped in another, much more personal battle.

Natalie recognizes his pain because she feels it too. The sorrow of being the only one to survive...the only one to make it out. And with understanding comes patience, determination and strength. Zach helped her in so many ways, and she's determined to help him slay his demons.

"My life was cold and dark and empty. But you made me feel again. You brought me to life, Zach. Do you think I can turn my back on you when you're hurting like this? You're the strongest man I've ever known, but sometimes even heroes need help....You're not alone in this anymore. You fought the Zetas for me. I'm going to fight for you - even if the one I have to fight is YOU."

This book was the PERFECT balance between romance and suspense. Hands down my favorite book and couple in the series (Marc and Sophie you come in a close second), and easily one of my favorite reads of the year so far.

This is definitely a series that has NOT lost its momentum, but only gets better with each book. I've loved watching this I-Team family come together and grow book after book. Pamela Clare has quickly become my go-to for when I'm craving a little heart racing action....both in and out of the bedroom.

Opening Line: “Natalie Benoit watched the streets of Ciudad Juárez roll by the outside of the bus window, wishing the driver would turn up the air-conditioning.”

5+ stars!! You know those books that within the very first page, you can just tell you’re going to fall in love. It’s the right book at the right time and you get that excited feeling as you try to figure out how you can squeeze a couple more hours of interrupted reading into your day. Well you’ve found it.

Yeah Pamela Clare has outdone herself with this 5th instalment from the I-team series; I could not put Breaking Point down, what a freakin ride. The action starts immediately and just doesn’t let up. More than once I caught myself thinking how the hell are they going to get out of this? (Which is just silly because of course they’re going to get their HEA, this is a romance after all) but I was so caught up in the story. Everything about this was just perfect, starting with the cover (hello) the studtastic (and literally) tortured hero, the sigh-worthy romance, the sexy, sexy love scenes, the inclusion of Marc and Julian and their ongoing bromance and a heroine that I could believe in. Easily one of my top reads this year. I’m just sad now it’s over.

If I’m honest the only thing I didn’t love (and frankly wondered why he received so much page time) was the photographer dude Joaquin Ramirez, he was all over this story for no apparent reason. And if I’m nitpicking the story does slow down considerably after their return to the States but its only briefly before an absolute edge-of-your-seat, movie worthy, bullets flying, helicopter roof top rescue, missing thumb, couple more rounds of electric shock torture, holy shit he’s been shot ending wherein I may have forgotten to breathe.

Investigative reporter Natalie Benoit is on her way to a journalist’s convention in Juárez Mexico when her bus is ambushed, fellow reporters are shot point blank and she is taken hostage. Believing herself to be caught up in a gang war Natalie is moved to an abandoned church where she finds herself chained to the wall of a cell awaiting her fate. Will they seek a ransom or just rape her? Either way she’s probably dead. Within hours she hears the sounds of a man being tortured, by all accounts an American man.

Undercover Deputy US Marshal Zach McBride is in the adjoining cell; he’s endured a week of torture and interrogation so far and doesn’t know how much more he can take. Of course he hasn’t broken, his military training made sure of that and in truth he doesn’t know anything about the Cartel’s missing cocaine anyways but now they’ve changed the game, they’re offering him the girl for information.

Adding Natalie to the equation just renews Zach’s resolve so that without ever seeing each other they forge a bond and plan an escape. Due to the extent of his injuries Natalie is actually responsible for their hard earned freedom and now the pair finds themselves on the run, escaping across the desert and towards the US border. The Zeta’s cartel has eyes everywhere so they can’t go to the authorities and Natalie is pretty sure her escort the assumed (Mr. Black) is either dealing in arms or drugs so they can’t trust anyone.

Zach and Natalie what an awesome couple, both suffering from survivor’s guilt they were so perfectly matched and so perfect for healing each other. Past heroes and heroines make a welcome return to this story which despite the gripping level of suspense always maintains a realistic edge along with a pulse pounding, melt your heart romance. This is one for the keeper shelf.

Breaking Point was an exciting story with a good romance. Natalie Benoit is a reporter on the same I-team (Investigative reporting team) as the previous heroines in this series. She travels to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico for a journalist convention, where she is kidnapped from a bus full of reporters, some of whom are killed in front of her. She is taken to a compound where she is locked in a cell next to the man who will change her life – Zach McBride, an undercover U.S. Marshall. Zach was betrayed by one of his contacts to the Zetas, a violent Mexican drug cartel. They think he stole a shipment of cocaine so they are torturing him to try to get him to tell the location. However, Zach is a former Navy SEAL and he is able to withstand the pain without giving up information. When he hears Natalie in the cell next door to him, he knows they need to escape soon or they will both be dead.

After some rather ingenuous work on Natalie’s part and some skill from Zach, they are able to elude their captors and make their way across the desert to the United States. During this harrowing trek, they get to know each other a little better. Natalie is able to share her experiences from living in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. She was attacked by a murderer and almost died then lost both her parents and fiancée in a car crash. She spent the following six years frozen emotionally but finally is ready to live again after meeting Zach and facing death head on. Zach has his own demons, he lost four of his friends during a fire flight in Afghanistan and has never really gotten over his survivor’s guilt. Zack and Natalie have an instant bond even during these intense conditions, the passion and chemistry flares hot between them. They make it to safety with the help of other U.S. Marshals and Marc and Gabriel, but then they have to deal with the aftermath. Zack does not feel like he can give Natalie what she deserves, which is a normal man who will give her the white picket fence and kids. Can she convince him to face his demons and give them a chance despite his job dangers? And will they be able to unravel the mysteries behind her kidnapping in time to keep Natalie safe?

Breaking Point was such an exciting thrill ride! I found the setting and storyline very interesting because there really is a battle going on at the Mexican-U.S. border right now (watch Border Patrol to see how hard these U.S. Marshals work!). The danger Natalie and Zach were in seemed so real, I was biting my nails! Zack was a great hero, he was a tough former Navy SEAL who was able to withstand torture but keep it together enough to help Natalie and him escape when she works hard to create a diversion (yeah for heroines who help save themselves!). He was also a very good, honorable man who treated Natalie with respect and won my heart with the way he called her “angel”. He wasn’t a perfect man, he had his own demons from being in a war zone, battling PTSD and his guilt over his friends’ death when he lived. Natalie was a brave heroine who never gave up even when things seemed pretty grim. She kept her head and helped them escape. She also showed her intelligence by letting Zack lead their escape using his survival and military expertise, not being TSTL like so many heroines who try to act like Rambo and almost die.

I highly recommend Breaking Point if you enjoy action-filled romantic suspense with great characters. Once again Pamela Clare has created a story with an honorable but tough alpha hero and an intelligent and nice heroine. I love how she manages to make the story realistic but still really romantic. The ending made me cry again, more because it was touching and sweet (and not the heart breaking sobs I had at the end of Naked Edge).

*3.5* Ok, I understand this is RS so there's gonna be some generic genre specific plots, but WHY does every book in this series turn a strong, intelligent, competent woman, into someone without any common sense at all!!

It's incredibly frustrating, because I actually really enjoy these stories. I'm just tired of the same, overused, stale plot points. Every single man in the series forgets how to use a condom and hopes he's not making a mistake...but also kinda hopes he gets her pregnant by "accident." Ever. Single. Book.

Surprisingly, the dead ex trope didn't bother me in this one. It's been six years but Natalie can't seem to let the memory of her ex fiancé go. She even keeps a framed photo of him at her bedside. Zach is so confident in his manhood that he speaks to that photo one evening. Telling the picture that he too would die for her. It's kinda sweet, and I liked that he doesn't feel competition, but camaraderie with a man who once loved Natalie.

I thought the thriller/mystery was done well. The torture and graphic descriptions of those young girls was hard to read. It's difficult to separate reading a story like this for entertainment knowing sex trafficking is a real and horrific reality for some.

I cried over a scene at the end between two of the men from the previous books. What an beautifully sensitive scene to put in such a macho book like this. Loved it!!

Pamela Clare just keeps whipping out these AMAZING stories. Every time I finish one I think how can she possibly top this and then she does it again. What a thrill ride Breaking Point was for me, not a boring moment to be had.

This book just like all the rest in the series had, great story, danger, action, suspense all rolled in with emotional moments. I shed a few tears here and there while reading. There was quite a bit of violence but that just made the story grab me even more.

With every book I read in this series I fall for each hero. They are all so fantastic that I could not chose a favorite. Zach was every bit as protective, smart, tender, caring and sensual as all the other's, Oh and lets not forget the HOT cover, that alone has most of us swooning over him.

Natalie was a great heroine, she was smart, brave, heroic and tough. I just love these characters Pamela invents to share with us.

Again the chemistry between the H&h just pours off of the pages so be ready for some HOT love scenes.

As always' the book had a wonderful HEA ending

I heard that this is the last book in this series. I hope NOT because I want to continue reading about these characters in as many book's as Pamela can write for us. I guess I'll just have to wait and see where Pamela decides to take us with her next romantic suspense. Which ever way she goes, I'm buying.

Yep, I ditched my book club book mid-way to start this one...

Edited to add: ... and I'm so glad I did!! The same thing happened when I was reading Naked Edge--at a certain point in the story, it became impossible to put the book down. Loved the camaraderie between the heroes from prior I-Team books. I'm particularly intrigued by this Marc Hunter character...

Too bad my book club meets tomorrow and I'm still only halfway through our book. Oops. I blame Pamela Clare. : )

WOW!! This was such an amazing book that it is way above a 5 star rating! -- Crème-de-la-Crème --

I was so moved by the poignant and beautifully written dedication of this book that I must include it here in my review…
“This book is dedicated to the hundreds of murdered and missing women of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. You were brutalized and discarded like you didn’t matter. But the earth received your tears, your blood, your bones and, like a bereaved mother, the earth itself cries out for justice. May the violence end and those who stole your bodies and your lives be held to account”.

I know I am repeating myself when I say Pamela Clare has an amazing talent. She is one of my top favorite Romantic Suspense authors and I eagerly await each addition of the I-Team Series. (I feel the same about her Historicals)! Each book is well researched and the issues that are presented make me more aware of what is going on in the world and I find myself wanting to do something to contribute to its end and enlighten those around me of these atrocities.

But of course there is more to why I love this author’s works….How very rare to open a book and become captive, enthralled from the very first pages…to become so involved that it is as if you are there, in the midst of the action, no longer a bystander reading words from a page but living the words. And the crème-de-la-crème is you have a hero to die for along with a heroine you admire and adore! Each book is filled with the perfect balance of action and suspense along with hot, sensual romance! They are Powerful, Sensual, and Emotionally Intense! They are the kind of books I love the most, one that I want to devour as fast as I can, while the other part of me is loving it so much I want to make myself slow down and savor it for as long as possible. That is why I love this author. For she brings to the reader these things mentioned and so much more!

And all the above is what you will find in this 5th installment. I was so excited when the cover was revealed. It is beyond a doubt one of the sexiest I’ve ever seen and Jed Hill’s picture was the perfect image for our beautiful and powerfully male hero Zachariah McBride. Former Navy SEAL, American Hero, and now Chief Deputy U.S. Marshall…hot, sexy alpha male! And he does not disappoint. There are so many facets to this man’s character and I loved them all! He is ruthless and when threatened by danger, I would definitely want him on my side! I loved his humor, his protectiveness, his honesty and that sweet tenderness. He is a “man’s man” and what he considers weakness, I found it only endeared him more! I love how he immediately takes charge of any given situation and the intense concentration to detail that he applies to each task at hand, whether it is saving lives, remembering southern sweet tea, or his sensual, sexual loving of our heroine, Natalie Benoit. I fell in love with him from the very beginning and as the story progressed, my love for this hero-to-die-for only grew.

And the heroine is one that you will also love and admire. Natalie Benoit, Investigative Reporter for the Denver Independent. This story opens with action as Natalie is brutally captured and held prisoner by the cruelest of the drug cartel. I found her sharp intelligence refreshing. She is brave, compassionate and also fierce in her protectiveness. And like Zach, she too is a tortured soul, carrying deep wounds from a painful past. And as these two broken souls unite to escape the brutality of their captors and in their struggles to stay alive they are drawn to each other and the pages ignite with their sensual desires.

There is so much more to this story than just their captivity and escape. That is only the beginning of the trials, the heartache, and the triumphs each of them will face. And the wonderful talent of this author is that while filling this story to the brim with action and suspense and all the new challenges and obstacles they must overcome, it is also a story of courage and healing while intertwining perfectly a thrilling, sensual and poignant love story. And woven into this riveting tale we once again meet up with past characters from the I-Team Series while meeting new ones along the way. And I really liked the way Ms. Clare incorporated them all and even included some in major roles while keeping our main focus on the hero and heroine.

And in the midst of this nightmare Zach and Natalie both find their hero and the remarkable ability to hope again! So many of my emotions were engaged as this story unfolds…laughter, tears, fear, anger and let’s not forget the hot steamy lovin’!

A truly well written book, filled with complex characters, action and suspense along with a remarkable love story that will keep you captivated and anxiously turning the pages.

A Riveting – powerful – emotionally intense - action packed – suspenseful – poignant – enlightening - sensual – sexy story that held me captive from beginning to end! I loved everything about it!

Thank you Pamela Clare!

There are so many “sigh” worthy moments in this book. Below are just a few of my favorites.

Oh my stars!!!

It’s official. There is no denying it now. I am a Pamela Clare I-Team FANATIC!!! And when I say this, I am admitting to thinking of nothing else other than the I-Team series for almost 10 days straight. Pamela and her I-Team series shot straight to the top of my all-time favourites list, standing proudly next to my Ward, Cole, Singh and Kleypas keeper shelves! With a short list of books she has released, Clare has become my newest auto-buy author and if you haven’t read any of her stuff yet, PLEASE please check out any of her novels! I promise you, you won’t be disappointed! Clare gets the *Leather Lust* seal of approval!

Now onto my thoughts about Breaking Point. ..With the last two books being favourites of mine, I was a little worried that Zach McBride wouldn’t stand a chance against the likes of Julian, Marc and Gabe. But, damn is Zach smokin’!! Zach has been set up and taken prisoner by the Zetas, a bloodthirsty Mexican drug cartel who enjoy torturing their prisoners and brutalizing women. As he reaches his last shard of hope, he hears the cries of a terrified woman, the next intended victim of Cárdenas and Zach’s protective tendencies rise to the surface again. With her help, they escape from their captor’s grip and flee to the border for safety. Meanwhile, they deny their attraction for one another until they realize they are not only running away from their killers, but also from their feelings.

I liked what Clare did differently in this book. Instead of keeping the identity of the bad guy a secret throughout the book, from the very beginning we know that Zach is on the good side while Arturo and his Zetas men are the bad guys. I think this worked in developing a sense of urgency in Zach and his action plan while making us hate Arturo and his men on a higher level than in the previous books. Instead of being kept in the dark, we read about the ruthless and brutalizing ways of the Zetas and come to hate them on our own terms. Clare lays out the facts, and we draw our own reactions.

What I loved about this book is the complexity of Zach and Natalie’s relationship. They don’t just fall in love and live happily ever after. Just because Natalie and Zach work together to escape Mexico doesn’t automatically mean they are a couple fit for marriage. Zach is plagued by guilt and his memories in Afghanistan still haunt him. Meanwhile, Natalie still feels her grief of her fiancé’s death. She doesn’t believe herself capable of loving again and Zach doesn’t believe he deserved to be loved at all.

I loved reading about the trials that the both of them had to endure to get to their happily-ever-after. This was definitely an emotional book, where Clare features two tortured souls who find happiness in one another. I couldn’t have asked for more!

Breaking Point was a nail-biter for me. If you stopped reading at 50 pages (although you won’t, trust me. It’s that good!), this would be a 5 star book. If you took a chunk out of the middle of this book and read from there, it would be a 5 star book. I was baffled to think back on how much happens in this little book. Calling it “action-packed” seems like an understatement.

I savoured this book, reading slowly and read every damned line (sometimes, rereading too) because I didn’t want it to end. It’s a long wait for the next one, but there is no doubt in my mind that whatever Clare releases next will be a star! Bottom line? I-Team will own you.

Favourite Quote:
“You’re going to take a shower – with your guns?”
“I’m not actually going to take them into the shower. I just want them close by. You know, if you’re going to hang with me, you need to learn the correct terminology.”
He held up the AK-47, the muscles of his arm bunching against the weight. “This is an assault rifle.”
Then he held up the handgun. “This is a semi-automatic pistol.”
Then he gave a little thrust and looked down at his penis. “That is my gun. As you’ve discovered, it’s pump-action like a shotgun, but it doesn’t fire bullets.”
Then he shut the door behind him, leaving Natalie to giggle into her pillow.

ON SALE - $1.99! Plus...if you buy the ebook at Amazon you get the audio book for only $3.99 which you DO NOT WANT TO MISS!! Kaleo Griffith's narration is PHENOMENAL!! I loved loved loved this book when I first read it, but listening to it on audio is like an out of body experience. You are literally hurled into the story! I highly recommend that you do not listen to this in public...you'll embarrass yourself by moaning out loud...or while driving...accident waiting to happen!!! Have a misting fan handy, a cool drink and be prepared for the ride of your life. Mr. Griffith gets this book, understands who these characters are and you can hear and feel it in his SPOT-ON narration. I knew who each character was without being told! His toe-curling, panty melting, sensual voice WILL SET YOU ON FIRE!! Not only is this a must read, it's a MUST LISTEN!!

Original review posted May 2011:
5 BIG STARS! What to say?! The excitement leading up to this book overwhelmed me, but nothing prepared me for what Pamela Clare delivered.

I went through a rollercoaster of emotions and was left with a huge grin on my face, tears in my eyes, drool on my chin, and characters that I CAN’T GET OUT OF MY HEAD! It was that GOOD! I am going to read it again, and then go back and read the entire series over, because I can’t get enough of these people, especially the men. Oh the men, and now we have another scrumptious specimen, Zach.

This was romantic suspense at its best. Zach, a hero you want to call your own. Ex-SEAL, US Marshall, a one-man army ready to protect the women that has unexpectedly come into his life. He is haunted by his past and suffers from PTSD. A tragic issue that the author brings to our attention. When believing death would have been the better option, well…that’s just heart wrenching. Unfortunately, many of our wartime heroes and their families deal with this every day. Natalie is a resilient heroine, up against tremendous odds, yet willing to do what needs to be done. She comes into Zach’s life at just the right time, ready to help him in the present and her love and understanding will heal the scars of his past. Oh the sex…SMOKIN HOT! The author's writing shines in these scenes. I also loved the feeling of family and camaraderie when all the characters that we’ve grown to love make their appearances in the book. The men were their usual kick-ass, full-of-themselves, awesome heroes and now they’re comedians too! Some very funny stuff. Loved it. It made the book very personal, because they are so relatable.

The story line evolved around the drug cartels and their ruthless murderous ways. We were introduced to a real life crime fighting organization, Shadow Wolves, who along with the Border Patrol, fight at the frontline tracking down the drug smugglers. These Native American homeland heroes are so good at what they do, they’ve been asked to train border patrols in other parts of the world. I checked out some articles on them…very interesting. Not only do we get a suspenseful novel, we always learn something too. Hmmmm…series in the making Ms. Clare…I think you might be on to something. I’d like to read more about Agent Chiago, we only got a taste of him, but he was yummy!

Clear your schedule before you begin to read, because you will lose all concept of time getting lost in this wonderful world of heroes and heroines that Pamela Clare has created. You won’t come up for air until you finish. Even then it will take time for you to catch your breath.

Kindle…$139
Ebook…$7.99
Getting lost in a Pamela Clare novel…PRICELESS!!

I can see why so many friends love this series, this was really good! I'm looking forward to reading the rest of them, especially Julian...he seems like a badass.

In case anyone is interested in my adventures in audiobooks, this was a good one. It was narrated by Kaleo Griffith, and he did a great job. I really like his voice, and it's good to know he voiced the whole series. The only complaint I have is that it was a little corny when he tried to put on Natalie's New Orleans accent. It's bad enough when a male narrator tries to sound like a girl, but the accent on top of that, he didn't really pull off. Lol. I guess I feel that for $23.95, they should have a female voice narrator as well, like the Beautiful Bastard books did. Maybe that's just me.

Thanks for the rec, Feifei! I think I'm going to have fun with this series:)

This book starts out with murder, kidnap, and possible rape and death. It's emotional and far too real – and pretty much scary AF. You may be looking at the cover and thinking shirtless guys, sex, etc. – And it does technically have that, but this book is so much more.
Note: Details about "possible rape and death" on the spoilers section at the bottom of the review.

Plot
Natalie is a journalist who has been kidnapped in another country. She fortunately meets another captured person, Zach, and together, they find a way to escape the antagonists and find their way back home. While Zach is the more “capable” in this scenario, I love that Natalie doesn’t just sit there and do nothing. She listens to what she has to do – she even shoots a guy. It’s a team effort.
And I can imagine that for any traumatic-survival situation, you can’t help but form a bond with the person who has been there with you. I love seeing Natalie and Zach helping each other out, getting to know each other, and of course, falling in love. By the end of this book, I shed a few tears (the good kind) because it has been such an emotional journey for both of them. Their connection truly is meaningful.

I also appreciate the friendship aspect in this book. The characters and relationships that have been established in previous books are in this one too, and it’s just an amazing feeling to see them all again. There are some cute bantering and a lot of good support.

Characters
– Natalie: I was somewhat skeptical about her because she seemed the most “eh” out of the whole friends group, but after reading this book, I have real respect for this character. She’s straightforward, reasonable, and hardworking.
– Zach: I like him. He is a rather complex character. He suffers from PTSD and some serious survival-guilt (on a past situation).

Final Thoughts
This might have been the scariest, most suspenseful book yet of the I-Team series. I don’t like this book as much as the others, but I respect this book (and this series as a whole) for showing how people can endure and fight, even especially after difficult, traumatic experiences. I’m giving Breaking Point 3 stars. It’s a thoughtful read – really complex and emotional.

Things that you might want to know (WARNING: Spoilers below)
Is there a happy/satisfying ending?
Love triangle? Cheating? Angst level?
Tears-worthy?
Humor?
Favorite scene?
What age level would be appropriate?

------------
I don't love this series (I don't hate it either), but I realize I've been giving it higher ratings as the series progresses. Fingers crossed on this one too.

5 STARS, definitely!

First, I want to say thank you to Pamela Clare for her kindness. First I get Naked Edge from her, now Breaking Point. I can't say much, just..thank you, really, really thank you..

Again, Pamela Clare never disappoint me. Breaking Point, while it's not my favorite ( Unlawful Contact still the best ;) ), but I really love this book. A hero to die for, but even Zach is Deputy U.S.Marshall, the top alpha (and it makes Marc, Julian and Gabe, hero from the previous books, pissed off!),he's not perfect, he had his own demon, pain and nightmare. A heroine that make me proud of her, Natalie might be look weak, but I adore her strength. This book is full action! From the start until the end. There's so much surprising moment happen. (teaser : something terrible happen to Julian *gasp*)

I can't write a good review, since My English not good either. There's so much a great review about this book at Goodreads here, like review by Lady Jayne, Auntee, Shawna, UniquelyMoi *~*Dhestiny*~*, Rhonda, Annie, Elena, the others.. . And yeah, I love their review, really!!! :D.

This year, I'm glad I can find a new addictive series like I-Team. A series that make me want to read again and again. A series that make me captivated, laughing, crying, thinking. Thinking, while I sit here, write a review, laughing at my friend's joke, arguing with my parent, there are lot of despair in other country, so much injustice, a bad side in this world. I can't do anything for that, just stunned here, almost crying. I know this book just a fiction, but Pamela's writing so realistic , it make me can feel what happen to the story and the character.

Some of my favorite quote and scene :

He held up the AK-47, the muscles in his arm bunching against the weight. “This is an assault rifle.” Then held up the handgun. “This is a semi-automatic pistol.” Then he gave a little thrust of his hips and looked down at his penis. “That is my gun. As you’ve discovered, it’s pumpaction like a shotgun , but it doesn’t fire bullets." ==> *snort*, men with their egos :))

He tilted his head back and let loose his best coyote howl. Chuckling, he glanced down again, his ending laughing abruptly when he saw the expression on her face.
Clearly, she was not amused
==> what I love from I-Team heroes.. their dry joke :))

"When I realized I was going to die, the only thing I could think about was you and what an idiot I’d been for not telling you how I felt about you. I think I’ve loved you from the moment you lifted that awful blindfold off my face. I opened my eyes, and there you were, the bravest, most beautiful woman I’ve ever known. You set me free Natalie. In so many ways, you set me free." ==> I think the first scene when Natalie removed Zach blindfold and stare to his eyes, is my top favorite *sigh*

This one considered as spoiler

Now, I must find another new series that make me intrigued and can't stop reading, or, I will re-read all book at this series again :D

NOTE : Dear Zach, I know you sexy as hell. I know you so alpha. I know you so tortured, physically and mentally. BUT, you never beat Marc Hunter. For me, he is my hero. Sorry...

Oh,forgot something..

AND I HOPE JOAQUIN RAMIREZ HAVE HIS OWN BOOK!!! :D

LOVED LOVED LOVED IT <3 <3 <3

Zach was AMAZINGLY hot!!

There was constant action and a fast paced storyline

The scene's when Zach and Natalie together were wickedly hot

It is definitely a romance suspense story I would recommend. Even though you can (in my opinion) read these books as stand alones I do recommend that you read book 4 before this one as Gabe the main guy from book 4 is mentioned in this one and it would help you to put his story in context :)

Buddy read with Blacky- Thank you for reading it with me I had great fun and loved the book :) I can certainly see why you wanted to re-read it :)

First read May 20-26, 2011

*sigh*...is it done already?
Another great action-packed, thrilling, sexy-as-hell story from Ms. Clare featuring my favorite investigative reporters "The I-Team".
I LOVED THIS STORY! Loved the characters, and the story line.... only sad thing is that Kara and Reese seem to be less involved as the series continues (their story is what got me hooked in the first place).
Zach McBride is well....AMAZING!!! ... and Nathalie is a perfect match for him!
I love the strength, integrity, honor, duty, and strong characters in this series!
I can't wait to read Holly's story!

Second read July 25 - 26, 2013

WOW! What a ride!
Once again, the characters, writing, and story were AMAZING!
What I really noticed this time I read this story was Joaquin's character. How I neglected him the first time around I'll never know, but somehow I did (sorry Joaquin).
Joaquin is the I-Team's photographer and a really good friend.
Violence strikes when Nathalie and Joaquin are at a journalist conference in Mexico, and all the Mexican journalists are being assassinated. Joaquin being of Spanish/Mexican decent is targetted and Nathalie risks her life to save Joaquin (and she does) but ends up being kidnapped and taken hostage.
Joaquin blames himself and feels guilty for not being more of a 'man' like Reece, Julian, and Gabe. He 'believes' that if he was more like them, he could have defended Nathalie, and she would never have been taken.
He asks Marc and Gabe to teach him how to shoot a gun, and repeatedly puts himself in danger in order to find Nathalie.
As I stated above, this story is incredible, but the part of the book that really touched me the most was at the end of the story when everyone is in Julian's hospital room (no spoiler as to how he got there) and Joaquin shares the photos he took of yesterdays action.

"He said nothing, letting the images speak for themselves.... And then came the photos he wasn't supposed to have taken...As the photos made the rounds, Joaquin watched, taking in people's reactions.
He saw the glance of acknowledgment that passed between Marc and Julian, the tears in Tessa's and Sophie's eyes, the appreciation in Gabe's and Reece's and he knew his images had revealed a deeper truth about their friendships and the ordeal they'd just endured than they could have expressed themselves."

""You have a gift," Julian said at last, handing back the photos.
"Anyone can be trained to shoot a gun. But what you do, Ramirez (Joaquin)-it's art."

I'm glad I read most of this book in the privacy of my own home because I would have been very embarrassed by my eyes bugging out, my gasps of horror, my exclamations of "no!", "don't!", "hurry!", and then there would be the utter humiliation of the drooling. Can't have that.

Breaking Point is the fifth in Pamela Clare's "I-Team" series and it's a great installment that might be one of the top romantic suspense stories of the year. I know, the year's not even half over but I'm pretty confident. It's that good.

I-Team reporter Natalie Benoit is attending a conference in Mexico with other journalists when their bus is attacked by drug cartel Los Zetas and she's abducted. Deputy US Marshall Zach McBride has already been in the Zetas' clutches for about six days by the time Natalie becomes his "neighbor". He's been tortured nearly to death and she's terrified beyond reason. How will they survive this ordeal? Together, of course!

What follows is part action/suspense/adrenaline-spiked road trip and part romance. Natalie and Zach belong together, that's obvious. The obstacles are believable, but so is the resolution.

This is probably the most action packed of the series. Almost no down time and I was thrilled to my toes that our old friends Julian, Marc and *sighs* Gabe play an integral role in the Big Finish. I'd like to take this moment to suggest a spin-off novella focusing on this SDUSM team in action together again. There must be something they can do. I'd even read about a beer run if these guys were starring in it.

But I digress. I do that sometimes.

This is part of a series, but each book has its own unique arc so they can each be read as a standalone.

Clare's research is meticulous and her descriptions bring all the elements to life. She also writes historical novels that are highly recommended.

ETA: The Breaking Point e-book is on sale for about a week for $1.99. Sale starts 10/23/13. This is really good romantic suspense and it works as a standalone. This is Penguin putting a book on sale. Yes, those are pigs flying outside your window. ;D

Ok this book starts off with heart-pounding action and doesnt let up till the end. Throw in some steamin hot romance and you got one fantastic contemporary romantic suspense!

Natalie Benoit, a journalist on the elite investigative team for Denver Independent newspaper, took this trip to Juarez Mexico to get away- but instead she heads straight into danger when the bus she's riding is ambushed by local thugs.

Unsure of what's going on, she rapidly goes from fear to horrified shock as everyone on the bus is cut down in front of her- including the newspaper's photojournalist, a personal friend.

Kidnapped and dragged away, she discovers she's not the only one being held hostage by the ruthless cut-throats. A friendly voice in the dark, the strange man being held in the neighboring cell confirms her suspicions that there is nothing but bad abrewing. But with determination, grit and a bit of luck they actually manage to escape.

She has no idea whom she's fled into hiding with but there's instant chemistry and though she suspects his motives there's an underlying trust there.

Oh Zach McBride, deputy US Marshal and former SEAL, does get her home but the danger has followed them because the reason for her kidnapping had nothing to do with her trip and everything to do with what she was investigating before she left.

Guys, this is fantastic romantic suspense. Natalie has been the I-Team member we've known the least about but her sad story finally comes out and it's quite a tale. Zach is just as tortured by a war-torn past but these two find comfort and healing in each other, during an unlikely time.

There's quite a bit of airtime for the former I-team members and spouses- as they help Natalie and Zach thru the morass of sussing out the big bad behind the taking of Natalie Benoit, and the boys interactions had me chuckling more than once.

If you like romantic suspense and you havent been reading Pamela Clare- you really need to start. ;)

Era la segunda vez que le salvaba la vida.
- Creo que me he enamorado.

- No ?
