All the King's Men #2

The Rebel King

Rate this book
Ambition. Revenge. Love.

Raised to resist. Bred to fight. Survival is in my blood and surrender is never an option.

Though surrender is what Maxim Cade demanded of my body and heart, I had other plans. We were fast-burning fascination and combustible chemistry, but the man I trusted with everything was a trickster. A thief who stole my love. If what we had was a lie, why did it feel so real? The man I swore to hate will have it all, and wants me at his side. But power is a game, and we're the pawns and players.

Facing insurmountable odds, will we win the world, or will we lose it all?

Rita Award-winning author Kennedy Ryan delivers the gripping conclusion to the All the King's Men.

AHHH!! Kennedy Ryan just delivered one of the most magnificent reads I have EVER read! The Rebel King is absolutely spectacular as it not only contains passion, and turmoil but it is honestly One of the Greatest Love Stories EVER Written! Maxim and Lennix were EVERY-DAMN-THING. Their love, respect and dedication for one other was almost tangible. I was immersed in the story and felt their connection right of the pages. The Rebel King will ultimately blow your mind and stay with you forever!

Without giving away any spoilers just know that The Rebel King starts off at that harrowing cliffhanger at the end of The Kingmaker. But what follows is Maxim and Lennix's powerful journey where they face the lowest of lows but also the highest of highs together. Their banter, fiery fights and heartstopping love for one another was astounding, making them truly one of the best couples I have ever read. I die for them and am so overcome with love for this story and the kismet connection they shared.

Overall, Ryan's exceptional talent and powerful storytelling ability made this story worthy of a King and his Queen. Her writing is flawless: beautiful in its prose and riveting in its intensity. I feel changed for the better having read this series. The All The King's Men duet is a once in a lifetime kind of read and Ryan's BEST work. They are absolutely brilliant and like Lennix, deserve to shine in the heavens like the stars they are. Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

How does one get over the hangover after reading prolific Kennedy Books, long enough to attempt to write a review?. The urge to re-enter the her sacred realm is acute, the world she creates and hands over to you is so very real and alive. All her subjects carry a strong message of racial harmony and tolerance. Everybody MUST READ this fantastic Duet. Set against the backdrop of powerful, redemptive love story, this is a socio-political commentary underlining the timeless importance of it, especially so in the current volatile climate of our country.

description

“She said revolution requires a certain degree of hubris. I have hubris to spare. Whether you know it or not, we need a revolution. We need to shake things up. The status quo is insufficient for what lies ahead. Let’s not fear the future. Let’s make it.”
Kennedy in her infinite wisdom has given us not only a novel but an important lesson in history and humanity. Her kind demeanor reflects in her stories like brilliant sunshine. Her ability to connect with her readers spills her trademark compassion and graciousness as major characteristics in the fictional people she creates.
They are humane, strong, staunch believers and tireless fighters. Holding on to their beliefs and convictions, Maxim and Olivia share a once-in-a-lifetime kind of connection that happens when planets and the moon align together on rare occasions. Their unlikely but inevitable coupling makes up a powerful winning combo that is both envied and celebrated.
"The girl who chases stars landed on the moon, planted her flag, and I’ve been hers ever since."

description

Ms. Ryan not only entertains, she reminds us that the core values on which this great nation is built on, are as pertinent for survival now, as they were decades ago. Her story glimmers in hope when all seems lost.
Her hero- Maxim Cade carries the same Zeal and drive to succeed as our nation builders did centuries ago. He's strong, down to earth, passionate nationalist who wants to better the world and leave his clean footprint on this earth for our future generation. I wish I could gather Kennedy's words and bring Maxim to life. God knows our country needs a superhuman like him right now!!
A man of huge ideas and impossible dreams and enough hubris to bring them to fruition.

description

"This bed is our map, and we make love until it feels like we fall off the edge of the world. It’s just us, the longitude of our bodies aligned and locked and loving. The latitude of our hearts, crossed, pressed together."
Their path to eternity is littered with political dangers and social potholes, coupled that with family hostility, it makes it a super angsty read and couple of scenes had be bawling like a baby.
In particular, the scene when Maxim goes to Millie's house, just broke my heart into million pieces.
Earth shattering grief, foundation shaking passion and an overload of sentiments had me engrossed, reading this book NON STOP. For the first time EVER, I didn't cook food because I was reading. It has been an eye opening, subsuming journey for me reading this Duet. And as usual she's thorough in her research, her weighty and intelligent prose forces you to broaden the horizons of your mind, make room in your soul for diversity and sensitize your heart.
I was more informed, more aware of Apache culture, their tragedies and bias they face, their struggles to cling to their identities and land everyday.

description

“Lennix Moon Hunter, Yavapai-Apache Nation,”
“The last warriors to surrender. And I am the girl who chases stars.”

Very few authors manage successfully to have you fall in love with the characters and shake your Psyche at the same time. I always come out enriched and enlightened when I close the last page.
Such informed and profound conviction in writing deserves all the RITAs which are inevitably coming her way
Time to get a bigger shelf Ms. Ryan.
I'm honored and humbled to have read your words🙏

Maxim is my once-in-a-lifetime, and I’m his.

After reading The Kingmaker, I couldn't wait to read the conclusion of Nix and Maxim's story in The Rebel King. I always worry when a duet starts off so strong, that the second part may not live up to the first... That was not the case here. This second book was just as wonderful as the first. It was beautifully written, and went in directions I never saw coming.

The ending of book one left us in a killer cliffhanger. I was so happy the wait wasn't long. I was so ready to get back into this world. Maxim proved that he would do anything for Lennix, and after being tested time and time again, he proved that to be true. This story had a good bit of suspense and action, but it was romance heavy in the best way.

Lennix is strong, brave, and a force to be reckoned with. There were times she was a bit stubborn, but I loved that Maxim took her and accepted her just the way she was. He encouraged her strength and they truly brought out the best in one another.
“You signed up for me..And I signed up for you, whatever that means, wherever that takes us.”

The passion between Lennix and Maxim is out of this world. They are so connected, so different, yet so alike in so many ways. They are each others true match. I love couples that fit like this. They challenge each other, and most importantly, they love and support one another above all else.

Kennedy Ryan's books are always powerful, important, real, and raw. They also always give me the feels, which is my favorite thing while reading. This duet, especially, tackles harder topics that I think are so significant in this day and age. And they're talked about and handled so well. These books will definitely be going on my favorites list of 2019 and I highly recommend them!!
“We weren’t unlikely, Nix,” I say, no levity in the words. “We were inevitable.”

Thank you NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

GAH!!! BRILLIANT!! SPECTACULAR!! PHENOMENAL!! I am completely blown away by how incredible, unique, powerful, inspiring, emotional and important this book and really entire doxology is while delivering the most beautiful love story ever! It is filled with action, suspense, passion, romance, grief, endurance, forgiveness, love, hope and just the right amount of spice. I was completely immersed from start to finish and felt all the emotions! This is a story that will stay with me forever and that I could read over and over again. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

After reading "The Kingmaker" and it ending on a HUGE cliffhanger I could not wait to read this conclusion of Lennix and Maxim's journey. The Rebel King picks up at the horrific cliffhanger from the first book. Lennix is strong, brave and does not wavier in her convictions. She is the girl who chases stars✨✨!! Maxim will do anything for Lennix and he proves that time and time again. He is a passionate, possessive and a protective man that put her needs above his own. Maxim is so swoon worthy🥰🥰!! Their love is the kind you only get once in a lifetime that endures forever.

Kennedy Ryan is the queen of contemporary romance and I will read anything she writes! I wish I could give this a gazillion stars!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a journey. What a love. What an epic conclusion to All The Kings Men Duet. Kennedy Ryan delivers. I strapped myself in and was ready for takeoff from page 1. I was on the edge of my seat. Biting my nails, holding myself in not wanting to go the toilet. I was completely immersed in this story. With Nix and Doc.
The prose jumps off the page. Flawlessly written. I was completely mesmerized thanks to the undeniable connection and intoxicating love between this couple. Wanting and needing more with every page.

Nix continues to blow me away with her strength which she finds within herself and through her heritage. It’s beautiful and fascinating to experience for reader like me who doesn’t have a broad knowledge about the history of the Native Americans.
Doc still takes charge when there’s something or someone he wants but now there’s more at stake. He gives it all just like Nix. They’re are two dedicated and strong personalities who complement each other. Perfectly.
Their journey is monumental in terms of their growth as a couple and as individuals. They are each other’s constants. They find solace and a pure need in one another and I reveled every moment. Their love is highly addictive and so intense. They struck a connection when Nix was 17 and Maxim 24 and it changed them both irrevocably. Now in their early and late thirties they now know what they want and are not afraid to claim it!

The Rebel King has it all. Suspense, humor and steam. It’s a perfect conclusion to All The Kings Men. There’s a reason Kennedy Ryan has won the RITA. She’s so gifted and versatile in her storytelling. The reader never knows what they’ll get from a Ryan novel. The Rebel King is impeccable from its prose to the overall story. Spectacular!

nnnooooo oweeennnn,

first of all, how could you?! that was not very nice, you cruel author. even if all of that was to help build maxims character, i cant believe you went there!! i felt used on his behalf, and im angry and heartbroken.

second of all, ... well i dont have anymore left to say. other than a very unimportant revelation that this book reminds me of lana del reys song, national anthem. watching the music video and reminiscing what happened in this book just hit me really close to home.

ps. can we get grims book please??

“You signed up for me,” I say, wanting to shout, but keeping my voice low. “And I signed up for you, whatever that means, wherever that takes us.”

Waw. What a ride!

Whatever Kennedy Ryan writes, I’m gonna read it. I love her. And I loved this book. She just knows how to write a really powerful, impactful, meaningful, emotional, and brilliant book.

Reading her books, you can always expect;
A strong as hell heroine. I always admire her heroines. Lennix was so strong and brave. She’s someone else equal. I loved her!

A freakin good relationship with no misunderstanding, with communication, and with a super undeniable chemistry. They just fit so well. They’re each other true match.

A really beautiful amazing writing with worth remembering quotes.

A meaningful powerful original plot. A message that’s well delivered. A unique story that’s entertaining and impactful at the same time. I mean she managed to make politics interesting, if that’s even possible!

That was the perfect conclusion for Maxim and Lennix story. I’m glad to hear that Kimba is going to get her own book, because I loved her so much. It’s supposed to be a second chance romance and I’m kinda scared the hero is gonna be David, and for some reason I wanted him to be Grim? Please?

“We weren’t unlikely, Nix,” I say, no levity in the words. “We were inevitable.”

What is there to say about The Rebel King? It was consuming, inspiring, and emotional. It pulled on every single heart string I have, and when it was all said and done I wasn’t ready to move on or say goodbye. I wanted a million and one epilogues. I wanted to stay with Maxim and Lennix well into their relationship, like old and gray.

These two change and evolve after the events at the end of book one; they kind of have to as a result of what occurs. Kennedy Ryan, however, still kept the core of their characters and what drives them. Their love is still all encompassing, their love passionate and transformational. I truly am infatuated with their love.

The Rebel King is such a poignant novel. It touches on so many social issues that are plaguing our world. I found myself understanding not just the specific issues that were important to each character but the overall theme that what we are doing isn’t working, and understanding the desire for a better world, for something different, someone different. Kennedy Ryan truly speaks to the social climate we are currently in, but she also leaves us with hope, inspiration that things can get better with the right people. The world needs innovators, fighters, and dreamers. We need intellectuals who are willing to think outside of the box and people who are willing to break down the walls of the status quo. We need a Rebel King and Queen.

Kennedy Ryan proves time and again why she is a must read author. Her style is poetic, emotive. I feel every word. Her stories are didactic and romantic. She combines every facet I love about reading into one epic romance time and again, and The Kingmaker duet is all of this and more.

Exquisite

Gah, this novel had my emotions vacillating between joy, sadness, and hope.

I don't know if Ryan is usually this meticulous but it was gratifying to read how respectful she was of the social and cultural aspects of Lennix’s history.

Overall, an amazing duet.

“We weren’t unlikely, Nix,” I say, no levity in the words. “We were inevitable.”

Must read Book 1 as this picks up where the cliffhanger left off.

Characters
Maxim (has a PhD in Climate Science):
Maxim is from a wealthy family who has made their living in the oil/gas industry. However, Maxim doesn’t support the use of fossil fuels, so he doesn’t want anything to do with the family business and has created his own business. He loves his family, but has a strained relationship with his father. His brother is running for President and Maxim is supportive and willingly sings Owen’s praises because he knows he’s the right man to lead the country.

”My father is privileged and arrogant and sometimes misguided, but he’s the only father I have, and I want a relationship with him. Sometimes loving your family is awkward and hard, especially when you don’t believe the same things, don’t choose the same paths.”

"Politics and oil are two of my least favorite things. My brother is running for president and my father is an oil baron, if we’re still using words like “baron.”
So fuck my life.”

The following words/phrases were used to describe Maxim: voted one of America’s most eligible bachelors, focused, methodical, commanding, determined, delicious, dominant, protective, a man with convictions and goals, hard worker, phenomenon, principled, brilliant, intense, empathetic, explorer.

”He strides into every room like he owns it—like there’s no one in it he can’t persuade, convince, or recruit. The force of his charisma is a tangible thing, a hook that lures you before you even feel it in your mouth.”

Lennix (co-owner of a political consulting firm):
Lennix is a proud member of the Yavapai-Apache Nation (an American Indian tribe). Her mother disappeared when she was around 13 and she is passionate about the plight of her people.

“You don’t hold back someone like Lennix because the beauty is in how she flies. I want to see her soar.”

The following words/phrases were used to describe Lennix: courageous, defiant, a fighter, brave, strong personality, passionate.

The Story:
Told in two parts. There is a huge plot twist at the end of Part 1 that completely flips the story that was developing and Part 2 goes in a bit of a different direction.

My Thoughts:
The following are my thoughts about this book:
- Thankfully the cliffhanger from book 1 was resolved fairly quickly.
- I’m not sure the bad guys and their reasons were plausible. I struggled with the “why” in this aspect of the story. Of course, not finding the body was just too predictable. 😏
- I loved the relationship between Lennix and her aunt
- Why does everything have to make a statement??? “Can you even grasp what it means for a Native American girl raised on the rez and a black woman to be running the campaign for the probable next president of the United States?”
- I liked that Maxim and Lennix could disagree and handle it like mature adults. It's refreshing to have characters that don't run away because of petty and stupid misunderstandings.
- I understand why there were so many references to the environment and the Native Americans. But, it never let up. Every chapter there was something mentioned and at one point I just felt like I was getting beat over the head with these two subjects. Every situation was another reason to tie in these subjects. Even a meal turned into a climate issue....... “I don’t tell people they should stop eating meat,” I say. “But eating more chicken than beef is a great start, and buying deforestation-free meats is a huge help, too.”
- On top of the two issues mentioned previously, this is a political book too. I felt inundated with "heavy" subjects. “I don’t esteem my right to bear arms over another person’s right to live and not get shot by some idiot with weapons that belong on a battlefield, not in the hands of a civilian.”
- The twist at 50% completely ticked me off and I seriously contemplated not finishing the book. I majorly skipped chapters 26-32 because I didn't want to read anything about that event. It ruined the book for me. 😡😡
- I liked the way Lennix stood up to Maxim's dad. “If you want a Cade for your schemes, find yourself another one.” I position myself between the two men, pressing my back into Maxim’s hard chest and glaring up at his father. “This one, you can’t have.”
- I struggled with Part 2. I couldn’t buy into Maxim’s choice. Book 1 and Part 1 of this book never even hinted he was interested, so I couldn’t get behind the plot.
- The fact that they couldn’t be open about their relationship was frustrating. If you want to paint a candidate as truthful and one who has the country’s best interests at heart, maybe you shouldn’t lie about who you are in love with. It just came across as hypocritical. It’s another reason I really disliked Part 2 of the book.
- At 85% Lennix completely ticked me off. How dare she!!! Ugh. She turns him down because she doesn't want to be by his side for the most important job of his life? 👎 argh 😤
- Maxim: “You signed up for me,” I say, wanting to shout, but keeping my voice low. “And I signed up for you, whatever that means, wherever that takes us.”
- Lennix: ”Easy to say when ‘whatever’ is you becoming the leader of the free world, and me smiling and looking pretty for a ‘say no to drugs’ campaign, or advocating for literacy. It’s not what I want to do. That’s not who I want to be.” Way to support your man. NOT!! 😡😡
- Lennix is either preachy or defensive. She definitely started to irritate me.
- I majorly skipped from 50% through the rest of the book. This didn’t have anything to do with the writing because the quality is what I would expect of this author. It’s just the content, the “preachy” aspects of the heroine and the plot turn that irritated me.

Overall:
I was disappointed. I wavered between 3 and 4 with book 1 and went into this one a little hesitantly. I thought book 1 was a little preachy and didn’t want to go through the same thing in book 2. But, this was a little bit worse because on top of the environmental and Native American subjects, politics was added to the story. So every aspect started to become someone’s “opinion” on something rather than just a fun story.

———————————————
- Do you need to read previous books in series?: Yes
- POV: dual POV
- H likable? Yes
- h likable? she started to irritate me
- h virgin? Not in book 2
- OW/OM drama? No
- H/h cheat? No
- Steamy? Yes
- Did I skip pages? Yes. Skipped the last half of the book
- Big secrets? a small one that Maxim keeps from Lennix
- Did I cry? Yes
- Cliffhanger? No
- How it ends: It ends before the election so you never really know if he becomes president. So for me it didn’t really have a satisfying conclusion.
- Recommend? As much as I love this author, this duet wasn’t my favorite so I’m sad to say I wouldn’t recommend.
———————————————
Quotes
“Should I decorate myself like a float in the Macy’s Day parade, too? That’s only slightly less pomp and circumstance than this appearance on The View.”

“People are sick of bickering. They’re tired of politicians locking horns and comparing dicks and getting nothing done. They want leaders who’ll set their differences aside long enough to actually help somebody.”

“You can still fight with fear in your heart.
The fear of what you’ll lose can make you that much more determined to win”

“this bracelet is significant. It’s symbolic of the fact that I’ve been all over the world, but you are my one place.”

“Traditions are the memories of those before us, breathed to life when we carry them on.”

“You can’t give a man lube and then deny him anal, Nix. That’s just cruel.”
“It’s a gag gift.”
“It is not a gag to me. It’s basically a promissory note. This is you promising me anal.”

HOT DAMN!!! The Rebel King was the perfect ending to this duet. The powerful punch this series delivers hit me in all my feels. I’m continually impressed with the way Ms. Ryan is able to convey a story that has the reader so absorbed into the story that the outside world no longer exists.

THE POWER COUPLE

Lennix and Maxim are the ultimate power couple. These two never fail to keep it real. In a world where a woman would be more likely to concede her career and ambitions, Lennix makes it known that she’s not going to give up what she has worked to build. The support Maxim gives Lennix in her endeavors was a nice change of pace to see in the romance world.

She’s my survival kit. The girl who chases stars has war in her eyes, and she’ll need it. The toughest fight of our lives is ahead. The fight to heal.

I love those words. Maxim offers the reader a glimpse, one of many, into how he views Lennix. Together they will forge the future. Along the way, they both must be vulnerable with each other to allow wrongs to be righted.

Nothing has changed, for me, from the first book where I said that ” I want to live within the pages of this book and be best friends with Lennix and have my own Maxim to admire me for the advocate work I’m doing.” RIGHT THERE is why I love books by Ms. Ryan, she creates couples who love and support each other. No one is a doormat or has to give up their dreams for the other person to thrive. Each person in the relationship is an equal partner.

The Rebel King is a duet. The story continues from the first book into the second book. It’s a romance within the confines of social justice. The reader will want to be best friends with these characters. One last thing, November is Native American Heritage Month and Native Americans are among one of the most underrepresented groups of people in the romance genre. I hope Ms. Ryan’s book is a flood gate to more books featuring Native Americans entering the romance genre in the coming years.

Trust me when I tell you that Kennedy Ryan is a contemporary author queen!!!

She writes real-life characters in a real setting with.. you guessed it REAL & believable feelings, conversations, actions... I may not like them all the time, or things they do..but I get them on a basic human level!

Another thing is the heroine...Kennedy's heroine is a special sort of dear to my heart. And I am a hard b*tch to please when comes to heroines. Shout out to my friend Renegade, she explains it so much better than me..but basically why we read & connect with these stories and heroines is because we search for that feeling of the like, similarities, connection...whatever you want to call it...
And I always find it with her heroines. None of them are the same. But I FEEL THEM ALL!!!

I think this book should appeal especially to Americans because of the topics that it deals with especially elections. I love how Kennedy wrote a solid & believable fiction novel with that subject. This is the way I prefer it done. From the legal & politics side of things, she did her homework for sure.

I don't know much about Native Americans ( some basics from school- don't judge I am Europian)
But let me tell you I want to know more after reading this.
And that is another quality of a good book. It makes me want to research more!

Overall this is a five-star duet!

* a book that makes you think & feel

* a book that makes you swoon ...I mean come on the way Kennedy wrote arguments & hot scenes between these two are just...amazing. To be honest I don't know which one I liked more

* a book that makes you believe

If you have questions or want to know where to start with Kennedy's books PM me...

But just to be clear these books of hers are not fairytales all though they are happy endings kind of books. So don't expect to mark a checklist of perfection some of you have.
These books are the real deal...with nice & ugly sides of human experience!!

Thanks to my friend Christine for buying me this book for my B day...Love you!!

I always hated politics, and by reading this book I found out that I hate books that build around it even more! I was bored through the whole book, I thought about DNF it so many times, but I did it and I finished it, so I'm proud of myself!

With this duet, Kennedy has created another fantastic world full of characters that I simply fell in love with. Her writing is so good and so smart. She always brings up real issues and writes kick ass women of color. I loved Maxim and Lennix and their road to their HEA. I do have to admit that I saw that plot twist coming since book one. Of course I won’t spoil anything but I had an inkling that the story was actually going to go in that direction and I was actually glad it went there.

Overall, this book and duet were my jam. I'm a politics/history junkie and I love political-type, smart dramas with a message, especially is they are Kennedy-esque. I feel like it was a very powerful book and it kept me in the edge of my seat a lot. The romance was incredible, the love story between these characters was so pure yet complicated, but it was truly a soul-mate type of story that spans many years and made me swoon so many times. That is also something I'm completely drawn to all the time. And the sex scenes, oh lord, so freaking hot, like cold shower hot, lol. It definitely kept me wanting more! I need some closure and more of these characters!!! I totally recommend this! Can’t wait to see what Kennedy writes next!

Successful = Selfish

I really enjoyed the thought-provoking, fast-paced, exciting and very sexy first instalment of All the King's Men but The Rebel King left me unsatisfied. I loved the two characters I first met and admired them for their determination and conviction to make our world a better place. In All the King's Men, it seems they've lost that spark I admired. What was left was exactly what I've come to expect from successful people...self-centred and single-minded ambition, to be the best.

Honestly, I nearly gave up at the halfway point. I was bored through most of the first half and thinking the author should have just written one book instead of drawing it out to two. Then, everything went to hell in a handbasket. I didn't like the plot twist and hated that the author went there. The biggest telling point that the author didn't hit the mark was that I scowled instead of sniffled. I just felt that the story didn't really need to go in that direction and the repercussions that followed seemed like an act of martyrdom instead of the drive that it should have been.

I'm not a huge fan of stories that are filled with unnecessary conflict. The angst-driven plot in The Rebel King was guided by the selfishness of the main characters. Careers took priority over loved ones and too many sacrifices were made for the sake of their images. I've never been a fan of keeping relationships secret because of careers objectives. Yes, I understand that women are looked at less favourably when they are sleeping with work colleagues/bosses. But, if you try to hide it like a dirty secret, it's sure to become a dirty secret.

The biggest part that I missed from the first one was learning more about Native American culture and beliefs. I wanted to see Lenix fighting for her people, going for her runs and stepping up to be the face against discrimination and injustice. I was disappointed when right at the beginning of the story, we were given a description of Lenix's shoes. It was obvious that her priorities had shifted. I wanted Maxim to be fighting the people in power in regards to our environment and the damage we are doing to our world. Now, he's all about making money and keeping his investors happy. I just missed that these two characters made me think outside my bubble.

I am definitely in the minority with this one. This was my second attempt at reading a Kennedy Ryan story, and unfortunately, it seems I'm not suited to her style of writing. A lot of my fellow readers loved this one, so please do not judge by my review alone. You may find The Rebel King is perfect for you.

The Rebel King is a superb conclusion to ALL THE KING'S MEN duet.
It's on a class of its own. It is Kennedy Ryan like never before. She does not hold back and gives it to us with a gut wrenching punch to the Heart and Soul and it feels GOOD!

Kennedy Ryan gives us her best in all her books which are Uniquely and Independently AMAZING. In fact, Rita Award-winning.
But she definitely accomplished something insanely special with this story. One I will never forget.

I went through so many emotions and Yes! I cried it was so powerful. I cried and then I smiled. Lennix and Maxim's story is about LOVE but it's also about so much more

The girl who chases stars! *mic drop*
When Lennix says this. I wanted to jump up and down like a mad woman and celebrate her.

All The King men: Warren Cade, Owen Cade, Maxim Cade are in my heart

The Rebel King was Beautiful and Exciting. Daring and Heartfelt. Our character's growth is phenomenal. This story shows us perseverance, endurance, fight, grief and forgiveness. With all these elements and I'm probably forgetting a whole lot more, it's no surprise it was FABULOUS.

RITA®  Award-winning author Kennedy Ryan delivers the epic All the King’s Men Duet.

I am ready to drop...
I am still wondering how I managed to finish this book. I struggled so badly!
Lennix annoyed me to the fullest degree! Maxim was really trying hard for their relationship whilst she did nothing at all. Also I didn’t like the turn of events with Owen, Maxim’s brother.
And all these never ending paragraphs about politics, not my cup of tea!!!

Title: The Rebel King (All the King's Men Duet #2)
Author: Kennedy Ryan

What an epic conclusion! I was at the edge of my seat while I read The Rebel King.
Kennedy Ryan has cemented the fact that she is truly an amazing author.

The Rebel King was suspenseful and so damn passionate.

Lennix Moon Hunter, the girl who chases stars, this powerful heroine is without a doubt one of the bravest characters I have read about. I am utterly in awe of her.

received_2400061006923124.jpeg

Maxim is intense. But just like Nix aka Lennix, I like it too. I like it a whole lot.
When Maxim says " The first is that I can no longer call what I feel for Lennix obsession, mere attraction, or anything less than what it is. I'm absolutely, irrevocably in love with her ."... my entire body melts on a cellular level.

received_1066998716980893.jpeg

Maxim is an alpha male through and through and my gosh does he make it easy to fall in love with him. When he says " I don't own her. I want her to sore. I just want to make sure she always lands safely. ", my heart combusted into a million pieces.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this duet!
It was such an amazing duet. It wasn't even the passion and chemistry between these two amazing alpha characters that made this love story amazing. Maxim and Lennix's story is filled with adventure, toe curling moments and is so romantic in the realest possible way.

To all those sceptics out that questioned Kennedy Ryan's ability to write amazing, powerful, relevant, beautiful romance novels.. She just proved them wrong.

All the King's duet is absolutely stunning.

This book was totally unnecessary. It was filled with mostly fillers sex scenes. The protagonists goes away for their works, then they come back and have sex.

Both Maxim and Lennix was boring. There was too much politics, and that made me lost my interest. Also, the plot is kind of predictable.

How does Kennedy Ryan continue to write breathtaking romances while making such important, impactful messages in the process? I absolutely loved The Kingmaker and knew that The Rebel King would be no different!

After that cliffhanger of book one, I knew we would be in for a ride in this book. I loved how this started out as more of a suspenseful book and I honestly had no idea how our characters were going to make it out of that situation. Nothing was drawn out, though, which I really appreciated. So much happened in this romance and really tested Lennix and Maxim's relationship. I loved how much they went through in book one and how much they were fighting to stay together in this book. That relationship is so strong and I was in awe over how much that respected each other and would sacrifice everything for one another.

While I'm really not a fan of political books, Kennedy Ryan wrote this in a way where I felt like there wasn't a strong political message she was trying to shove down our throat. I really appreciated the look at Native American culture and injustices, but she tastefully looked at the political climate of the US and didn't try to show how everything could be "fixed." I loved how Lennix was working on the presidential election and how important that was to her life. Maxim's support was so endearing and I enjoyed how closely they had to work and prioritize different aspects of their lives and their relationship.

Overall, this duet was AMAZING and unlike anything I've read. I loved the power and pride we got from Lennix's character and the power and passion we got from Maxim's character. These are two people I won't forget anytime soon and this is a romance I will remember for a very long time.

I knew I knew, I knew this is going to be an epic read and indeed it was. The Rebel King is a beautiful, captivating at some point suspenseful story. The characters are so real and emotion-filled that they touched my heart. I could not put it down.

As the story continues, Maxim proves that he will do anything for Lennix. You will really fall in love with this man on how he treats his lady. He's so swoon-worthy. While Lennix is still an independent, head-strong woman we have known. She really shines here on how she handles her job, and her conviction in protecting the people she loves and the land she grew up with is really admirable. Together they are the force to be reckoned with. I really like how Maxim and Lennix complement each other. And the love scenes are just something to be envy for *wink*. It was romantic and definitely sexy. They are my new power couple!

The writing was wonderful. The storyline was full of passion. Her characters are good, their interactions developed. This book is my new favorite from this author. So, if you want to immerse yourself in a good story, I highly recommend this series.

REVIEW: 4 STARS
"Desire and need suffocate my good intentions."

Disclaimer: I don’t really like when the real world invades my book world in drastic measures. So, I am shocked at how much I enjoyed seeing some political, some activism, some reality to the story, even though sometimes it felt like it was bordering on a certain tone I don’t necessarily want in my books. But I always want real and Kennedy Ryan gave me that - always gives me that.

I do not willingly trust any author with hot button issues in my romance books, let alone political ones. So, while this one was waaaay over my comfort zone lines for political romance stories, there is something to say about Kennedy Ryan's ability to infuse her convictions with her romance so seamlessly in one story. She is meticulous in her research, and thoughtful in her narrative - all by giving us a story worth discussing, one worth feeling. One worth debating, and one worth processing internally. She gave me an in-depth look into a culture that I’m pretty sure I never would’ve crossed paths with. I commend her not only on her strength and drive for knowledge, but her voice and confidence in how she's telling it. This can't be an easy subject to broach with her readers. I can't even begin to imagine, but she did it with a clear voice and certainty, and that I can appreciate.

I could go on and on about how amazing her writing is, and frankly, I do it with every review I write for her books. Because, for me, she is that amazing. It's why she sits on my Favorites Lists for authors and books yearly. It's no secret, and I'm proud to say I've read every one of her books and she has touched me or moved me with each one. So there is no discussion needed on how amazing her writing is. However, this is where I vary off the path I have always walked with her. This one book, this is where my tune changes a little bit. I'll be frank, and I'll be honest - I loved the first book. I mentioned in my review that it was a little preachy and repetitive for me, but that overall the love story was front and center. But this one toed a few lines that I am not sure I would have willingly crossed. Not because it was terrible. It's just such a sticky subject, but one that should be and needs to be discussed - but of course, Kennedy Ryan used her platform wisely and brilliantly. Again, I'm not sure there are many, if any, authors I would allow to take me down a very political and slippery slope in my romance book world....but Ryan stands out in a very small crowd of authors I trust.

I found myself falling deeper in love with Maxim by the page. I love the gruff alpha males and the ones that will stop at nothing for their woman - that is who Maxim is to his core. Seeing his alpha side and subsequently his determination to NOT back down, but also giving Lennix some leeway, only to the point that he’s comfortable with, was an exercise in restraint for him, I'm sure. He is everything. He is perfection in literary book boyfriend material. No denying that - I'd be a liar if I tried to. I loved his moody and broody side, his protective side, his loving side and his willingness to do whatever was necessary for his woman, because he made no apologies claiming her as his. I freaking loved that he never bowed down to her anger, instead listening with his heart and mind. He took it and turned it around into a good thing and showed her he knew her worth, he heard her, he saw her, but never took away from her hard work. He was her biggest cheerleader. He knew how hard she worked and didn't negate the amount of work she put in to get where she was.

"I don't mind playing dirty when I care this much about something."

Lennix was stubborn. I struggled with her choices in this one, far more than I anticipated. She’s so stubborn, but I had to recognize that as part of what makes her who she is, so on the other hand, it was amazing to see that strength. I can enjoy the stubborn side of a character and actually love reading that in a heroine. As someone who is very stubborn herself, I am full of opinions and fire when it comes to what I believe - so I easily recognized it in Lennix. BUT. That girl caused me some serious grief. She had tunnel vision at some points, and that pulled me away from the story a few times because the mental discussion I was having with myself was actually louder than the story I was reading. She, I feel, manipulated Maxim - without regards to his emotional needs - into something without him having the full story, in turn causing their biggest argument. One that I felt was completely lopsided and disrespectful of his wishes and wants. And yet, this is the part where I struggle the most because none of it was moot. She was stubborn for a reason. She pushed Maxim to do things because she knew the outcome would benefit more than just her. She was smart and calculated. But, damn! That girl seriously had me ranting a few times!!

"You don't hold back someone like Lennix because the beauty is in how she flies."

The neatest thing I saw, though, was that she challenged Maxim and that in and of itself is what made her who she was - for him. I felt like her instinct was to fight first, and then acquiesce for the benefit of her and Maxim after the fact. Her stubbornness pushed her into scenarios and difficult situations unnecessarily instead of thinking it through and not acting on a ‘man is evil’ platform. Can I understand why she fights so hard? Yes - 1000% yes. Unarguably, yes. Can I get behind her beliefs and why she fights so hard? Again, yes. BUT, I still didn’t agree with the majority of how she handled Maxim and HIS needs, wants, and desires. He did EVERYTHING for her. Every single thing. The one time we saw him lose his cool, I was right there with him. Her selfish foresight and wants overshadowed his and she didn’t give him the chance to make the decision himself, so I truly feel like she manipulated him without thinking of the impact her decision would have had on him. But again, I can see why that captivated him and pulled him in. That challenge is enticing - especially in a world where one never passes up a challenge. I could invariably see why he loved her so hard and was willing to give up everything just for her. Like I said, Kennedy Ryan has given me much to think about and process. I can't complain when I'm forced look at both sides, because while I have an opinion, I always love learning another side to someone's truth. But I'm tellin' ya....R-A-N-T-I-N-G.

"The need to be inside her is so elemental, I can't distinguish it from the need to breathe or blink."

Put aside everything else, though, and their love was scorching hot. They were made for each other and they were tireless in their pursuit of a level of intimacy you can't throw together in mere words. I feel like Ryan chooses the right feelings to emote through her words, and it just comes across as effortless. I always felt her characters' love oozing off the pages, and I am thankful for that. The emotional impact Lennix and Maxim felt with all the trauma they encountered was placated and supplicated in the most intimate of ways. They gave what they needed, and they gave it without reserve....but they also took what they needed without hesitation. I couldn't get enough of that intensity that simmered between them. Because, to be honest, when a strong partner is able to be vulnerable with the one that completes them, that shows how rich that love between them really is. In this case, we had two very dominant characters falling into each other in the most gracious of ways.

"I grip her by the hips and pull her so close, my body is a hard question. Hers is a soft response. A 'yes' wrapped in velvet, lined with satin."

Kennedy Ryan is an exceptional storyteller and her mind has tunnels I'd love to explore one day. There is nothing that I won't trust her to write for me. Because, honestly, I know I can read anything she throws at me and learn something while falling madly in love with her characters. This one was more political than any of her others, but I wouldn’t trust just anyone else. She possesses a masterful skill in delivering a story of this magnitude, with this much depth and this much heart I rarely read from others. But only her would I blindly trust to give me what she does - time and time again, because she makes me think and she makes me process. Ryan shook me with a truth more powerful than I am able to articulate with this book - and I am confident enough to say that. The love these two shared spanned opinions, time, space, and disagreements. It ultimately showed Maxim's willingness to sacrifice for her, because he loved her. Nothing would ever stand before his love for Lennix - and that's how love should be.

"Traditions are the memories of those before us, breathed to life when we carry them on."

There are not enough stars for this book....for this duet!!! I was fortunate enough to delve into this amazing world of Lennix & Maxim early on, and they have left a permanent mark on my heart and soul. The writing of K Ryan is impeccable, the story authentic and original, and the characters are inspiring and make you want to change the world!

The love story of Lennix & Maxim is not a conventional one. It is shocking and intense, and they have their share of both steamy and tragic moments. This book picks up right where The Kingmaker left off, and there wasn't a moment that I was not glued to each and every page - every word. The circumstances in which Lennix & Maxim find themselves in are both harrowing and suspenseful. My heart was pounding and aching for these characters at times, and I just could NOT get enough of them. Their passion for not only each other, but for their beliefs; the dedication and loyalty to their causes, their family members, their political identities, and their backgrounds all combine to create a story that will leave you speechless.

K Ryan has a gift for writing romance stories that touch on today's social issues and have inspiring and diverse heroes and heroines. She does it all with integrity, respect and through diligent research. In this duet, the Native American culture and traditions play a significant role, and I was simply in awe at times - both inspired and transfixed by this beautiful group of people, AND this OUTSTANDING heroine, Lennix. Once again K Ryan has written a female powerhouse within an epic romance story that will leave you breathless and inspired! I am nowhere near done with this duet - I am recommending it to every family member, friend, and neighbor, and I will gladly read it again and again. BRAVO K Ryan - you have single-handedly catapulted the Contemporary Romance genre with this duet to a new level all on it's own! Well Done!!!!
