The supers are back.
Claudia Schiffer commemorated the 25th anniversary of the first time she appeared on the cover of Vogue Italia by posing nude for the glossy’s August issue, along with fellow catwalk legend Stephanie Seymour.
In the photos taken by Collier Schorr, 48-year-old Schiffer poses stark naked holding just a Yves Saint Laurent clutch in front of her chest, with a strategically suspended pair of neon green YSL heels and a blazer held behind her back.
In the second cover shot, Schiffer is slightly more covered up yet still substantially unclothed, wearing only a blazer and black Saint Laurent pumps.
Seymour, 51, posed in the buff for two additional covers, wearing only a black low-slung belt on one and a fluffy neon green feather coat on the other.
In the caption on Vogue Italia’s Instagram account, Schorr explained the inspiration behind the shoot, writing, “The concept was to take the framework of some of Helmut Newton’s most seminal studio shoots, especially the ‘auto-portraits.’ Theoretically, the women in these photographs by Newton were ‘making’ their own portraits in that very brief moment that they are looking at themselves in mirrors and releasing the camera’s shutter with a cable release.”
Continued the photog: “The idea for my story evolved into me stepping into the shoes of Helmut Newton and being shown in the mirrors’ reflections, photographing Claudia and Stephanie…When you are photographing women such as Stephanie and Claudia, who are literally like the walking lexicons of fashion gesture in photography, there are things they will and will not do. There’s not one thing that you see in these photographs that Claudia didn’t want to do – if she didn’t want to do it, she changed it.”
