smells kind of like if a haunted doll could be new in box

i did everything to own this discontinued perfume
i love it
the oud in this perfume bring the haven in a bottle
love it

Nova789K!

Was this name of the fragrance after the drug, or the famous chef in San Francisco Jeremiah Towers from the 80’s or 90’s. I thought it was a bold name when I came across. I liked it, not to many florals from Nasomatto and this musky floral is kinda dreamy.

twday

i no like.. smell like my china brother who cocaine dealer. bring back trauma memories . gros!

leahlzander

Lauren Bacall vibes. Every time I wear this fragrance I think of her telling Bogey, "I'm hard to get. All you have to do is ask me."

Tomya

To me, this is a cross between Christian Dior's Leather Oud and Cuir Cannage. Or Zoologist's Hyrax with lots of rose.

Fragility

Limited experience with the scent on paper left me with this: old-school pissy, more restrained kouros-like top notes. Take this with a grain of salt but also bear in mind if considering to blind buy.

Esna

Súpra skin scent but everyone can smell your skin, like a hyper strong clean skin scent.
Freshly bathed in a museum looking at a René Magritte painting. This scent usually backstabs me though. I love the overpowered skin musk scent but something has happened to me every now and then, I get floral powdery which I don’t like.

montgomery99

A tragedy that this was discontinued. To me, it smells like powdery, refined labdanum, incense, and dried roses. Some similarities with Prada Amber Homme, altho this is much dirtier with the smoke. The most wearable of the line along with Baraonda. I can't explain why, but I feel like the Olsen Twins would smell like this? You can find a few bottles floating out there on the grey market--I wonder if there's anyway to convince the brand to PLEASE bring it back.

chyprechérie

I am so fucking heartbroken like... WHYYYYYYYY would they discontinue this

nonikocci

Definitely the more palatable of the Nasomatto house. I get a comforting feeling with the powdery floral notes. The woody note doesn't stand out as much. This is like a daytime scent that is unassuming.

KillFox

I was curious about what a powder forward fragrance would smell like. Very clean and almost a bit stuffy. Very nice and delicate fragrance. The light floral in the background keeps me interested.

I can't think of where I would use this fragrance other than just throwing it on at the house to enjoy the smell to myself. Someone mentioned they're surprised by how clean it is without being soapy and I agree. I do not like soapy unless it's on the deep dry down 8+ hours mark.

Overall good fragrance. Think bordering baby powder scent with cute flowers in the back and a hint of wood.

DariaFrancesca74

Defining it as a jewel is absolutely reductive, an absolute masterpiece. Fragrance that pervades your senses… it unleashes contrasting, absolutely seductive emotions, which only the fragrances of the master Gualtieri can masterfully give. Animalic, beastly at first encounter, impetuous and then enveloping, warm, erotic, woody, passionate, sensual until it becomes magically reassuring and powdery. Fragrance with a surprising evolution. Unforgettable olfactory experience, worthy of being lived. Masterpiece.

I almost blind bought China White, but refrained by opting for a sample instead. This is much better than I thought it would be. It shocks me how clean it is without being soapy. As it develops on skin it becomes more beautiful during the dry down. While I still have great admiration from Venus' density, China White is much more wearable than I expected from Nasomatto.

The rose is interpreted in such a unique way without overpowering the clean musky base. There seems to be light green notes that give this perfume body. Everything is rounded out and each note serves a purpose; none of the notes suffocate one another.

Nothing feels synthetic here, yet it still captures beautiful perfumery. I imagine a cool in temperament and confident person wearing this. I'm still not sure how easy of a reach this is, which is why I am relieved I didn't buy a full bottle. Still I find myself debating on a full bottle one day. This is between a strong like to love for me.

Mona708

I wound up liking this far more than I thought I would! It’s very simplistic without being boring; it reminds me of a dryer, less sweet, 1881 Cerruti minus the chamomile. It does a lot better in cooler weather, too. It’s also got an impressive longevity- five sprays last over 11 hours! This would be a great dumb grab for casual or formal events. I just wish it weren’t discontinued 😭

Shawn330

China white … anyways lots of labdanum powdery florals musk and incenses love it also small complaint this is is not a extrait none of their perfumes are as you read the label this only has 20% perfume oil and 80% alcohol that is EDP concentration misleading much? This doesn’t lay on the skin like an extrait but it is a great EDP! Leans a bit classic and has an amazing modernity to it as well. If you think about it though it’s extremely expensive for the quality and the quality bottle if you add the value compared to other niche houses. Same wheel house as duo fragrance bottles with the plastic atomizer which sell for downwards of 30$ for a higher concentration juice . It’s a bit scarey honestly. Anyways it’s not a bad scent it has decent quality juice reminds me of xerjoffs fatal charme. But the bottles and packaging need a major upgrade for the cost. The cap is nicest one I’ve seen so far from the nassamoto collection and quiet heavy but again poorly put together…
Quality juice: 6.5/10
Projection: 1-3 hours
Longevity: 8-10 hours
Bottle and packaging: 1.3/10

As I understand China White is a name for an opioid which cocaine isn't. I cannot say if this smells like cocaine since I never tried it. Anything is possible.

What I found out is this:
“China white is about the strength of fragility. I made this during a year when things were very difficult for me, a very tough year, when you feel very naked, full of fragility. The formula is extremely complex, very long. It’s a perfume of many layers. Making this perfume became a kind of therapy for me.”
-Alessandro Gualtieri

So now I know where the saddness comes from. The calming effect comes from the incensy smell of charcoal tablet in the drydown. Many people use it as air purifier aside from sacred religious rites. But it preserves powdery rose till the very end.

And he discontinued his baby, his most complex creation that helped him. :(

Unisex

I wanted to say something about this unique parfum since it was just discontinued and now you can still find it even if it’s not anymore in Nasomatto’s website. This is great for the springtime and summertime.

Gualtieri never releases used ingredients and notes of his perfumes and it’s ok but what comes to China White I think it’s really rare to find honest opinion about how it really smells.

It’s obvious that CW belongs to floral woody fragrances but all other is speculation and even there is florals and “powdery” note, I want to speak about this creation straight and with the right definition. Powdery for example here doesn’t mean powdery like it’s used in perfumery notes. It’s just trying to describe the scent without using correct words which would be considered inappropriate.

Nasomatto’s China White and Black Afgano has described as Yin and yang which is a Chinese philosophical concept that describes opposite but interconnected forces. Black Afgano is really mellow unique scent with potent untraditional Hashish whiff and I would lie if I wouldn’t say that China White has been made to bring strong chemical Cocaine vibe. That vibe comes straight away after spraying and there is no reason why it wouldn’t be meant to be like that. No doubt that it is maybe as well the one main reason why this scent is discontinued since it’s really challenging to sell this because of it’s unique character and scent which is some kind of tabu to say it out loud.

I hope no one gets offended now because of what I have wrote since that is the reason why this is not described as is should. I’m not trying to glamorize anything - I only want this scent would be described as it deserves since this is very unique and captivating yet brash take on perfumery. I respect the courage which is needed to create something like that and that was the main reason why I bought this long time ago. I was actually thinking that this will disappear even more quickly from the market.

@annabear
You have every right to leave a bad review, after all perfumes are subjective :)
However I would give China White a 2nd and even a 3rd try. I remember trying it when it was first released and like you i was not impressed with it at all. I was just discovering the niche world of fragrance and there was a lot I did not understand and I am still learning. China White is vey enigmatic, I sometimes wear it and after an hour I cannot smell it, then it comes back again, longevity is definitely not an issue at least with the bottle I have which is around 7 years old. I can sometimes still smell it the next day. Your money isn't lost so I would recommend you try it again in a week's time, if it still does nothing to you, keep it and sell it in a year's time! I have seen insane prices for Hindu Grass on ebay! Stay Well.

Annabear

I’m sorry to leave a bad review, and it’s in no way to offend those who love China White, these are purely my reflections.
I have both V and Nudiflorum, the latter reinforced my admiration for this brand, so I bought China White blind because my expectation of the brand had been set.
It could well be that this is one of these fragrances which depends so heavily on the wearer. I was completely anosmic to it, I got no powderyness, nothing mythical as some have commented…in fact nothing! I did muse that maybe an impression of nothing might equate to an impression of cleanliness or a vacuum. Because that’s what I got, a big vacuous nothing.
I strongly suggest you try before buying.

I was lucky to score my own bottle from my Costco Australia for only $99! What a steal! I've been wearing it for a 2 whole days now and I can say that although there's nothing groundbreaking with the perfume's core DNA, it still has quite some complexity on it that wows me every time I get a whiff of it. First of all, I think this is absolutely unisex. When you first spray this perfume you will get a little bit of zing, like smelling some clothes detergent. But unlike actual detergent, nothing about it is harsh nor sharp. About the name, maybe they named it after a popular drug or maybe it reference to China's culture about purity and serenity, you will get that in here. It's smells chalky but not in the obnoxious powdery kind of way. I feel like the woods in the background (which are very faint I must say) really does a great job grounding this perfume. For some reason, the image that this perfume conjures in my mind is that of a very bright room with white walls surrounding it. It reminds of me being somewhere very sterile and bright. On the other hand, it makes me think of an antique ceramic shop where everything is glossy and shiny with a little hint of dusty imperfections in between.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a "clean aesthetic" perfume. But this isn't like your typical perfumes you see on YouTube (ie Glossier You, Diptyque's Fleur de Peau) because this has got hefty, hefty weight on it and with a good projection & sillage that can lean towards the heavier side. I'm an oversprayer but this perfumes I can only afford 2-3 sprays coz that already feels enough. So if you're in Australia, as of writing, it's still available in Costco! So grab a bottle of this before it's gone!

SmokeyLady

Today I give up, I must have this before it is gone. Wonderful review below mine. I also like this and Nudiflorum the best and they have completely opposite personalities. I love how I smell powdery rose by the very end but when I sniff up close I smell incense. It is playing tricks. It doesn't make sense it is discontinued since it is one of the rare leaning feminine Nasomattos. Also the only rose I love. RIP! When I get it I will dread the day when it is gone but that is life. I love art of parfumery even more for its ephemerality.

buzz72

So, yes I am like 15 years late from actually owning a full bottle of this fragrance but i am so glad that i finally have it. It’s official that China White has been discontinued and I am honestly bloody shocked at the decision Nasomatto has taken!

Let’s take a real good look at what China White is all about. China White first and foremost is right down the middle a unisex fragrance. It most definitely was wrongly marketed for women only. Also get over the gimmick drug related name that caused controversy when it was first released. I remember reading an article about this fragrance to not wear it near airports because sniffer dogs would think you would have narcotics on you. I have no idea if China White has any illegal substance in it but I can vouch that it certainly has an addictive beauty in it that makes it incredibly unique.

If you judge China White on it’s first few minutes you will be like judging a book by it’s cover like I had done 8 years ago when I discovered Nasomatto and bought my first ever niche fragrance Black Afgano. There are so many facets in this fragrance that it feels like a long journey. From the initial spray i am immediately reminded of Silver Musk but this is accompanied by the smooth leather that Alessandro would later use in his Orto Parisi fragrance Cuoium. I am not the biggest fan of that fragrance but the same leather note that is used in Cuoium is to my nose the same one used in China White. A few minutes into the fragrance and I can start smelling a beautiful floral note. The notes begin to flourish and the fragrance becomes airy. It’s not a monster fragrance to suffocate but it’s not a slouch either. In my humble opinion it’s perfection in sillage, projection and longevity. Since i live in a country where humidity is high this fragrance seems to work flawlessly. The more time passes by the more something unique and striking seems to come out of China White. I am probably starting to believe now that it’s name is a reference to ‘addiciton’ because I can tell you that once you try this on skin it becomes seriously addictive.

If not blended professionally a fragrance with floral notes and musk can become offensively cloying and boring. Alessandro expertly makes China White incredibly smooth and almost spiritually calming. Again, i cannot stress enough that those bothered with the name China White keep in mind that it’s a gimmick. Alessandro is a master of advertisement and you really should not be upset by the controversy in his creations. I have yet to smell his new fragrance Sado Naso that is again creating so much discussion and controversy but I am sure that there will be something interesting in it.

I admit, I didn’t take much notice of China White before and once I knew that it became discontinued i remembered that i had a sample of it and tested it out.
I left it on my arm for good duration of 6 hours and i was 101% convinced that what I was experiencing was a piece of art that needed to be in my collection.
You might call this a fomo ( fear of missing out ) phase. But I can assure it’s not the case here because China White is hands down so far along with Nudiflorum my favorite from Nasomatto. Yes I have other fragrance in my collection from Nasomatto which I love. But Nudiflorum and China White have something in them that makes them feel extra special. I do not know how to explain it but they feel like ‘the most prestigious’ from his entire collection. Like an exclusive Guerlain limited edition.

Every single thing about China White feels luxurious. The cap?
Beautiful heavy ceramic cracked cap that is so beautiful to display and hold. Probably the best looking cap from his whole collection.

Back again to the journey of the scent. I feel inspired and when this happens I cannot stop writing, so if you stuck with my review so far I thank you.
China White has one of the most magnificent dry downs and if you are surprised by the beauty of it’s opening powdery notes with a touch of rose too, you will be more surprised how this turns into a beautiful more calming musky incense with earthy and woody notes that makes you want to smell it up close. If i had to find just one minor criticism in China White is that when it reaches the drydown it becomes more of a skin scent, but let’s face it the majority of fragrances become skin scents and this after a good 8 hours of moderate projection.

China White is definitely not a linear fragrance and that is what surprised me the most. It’s a real treat to perfume lovers that love to go on a real fragrance journeys. With a perfumer that never reveals the notes China White has a lot going on. The majority of notes here could probably be synthetic but i cannot confirm as Alessandro never talks about notes. But if they are synthetic boy they are extremely blended to perfection!

i see myself wearing China White in Spring and Summer as it feels incredibly fresh, clean and so polite. It’s not intrusive and as I have already said it makes me personally feel so calm. I am actually wearing it as I write this review and i am enjoying every minute of it. Some fragrances are not always appreciated as much as they should be upon release and are sadly ignored and forgotten. It sometimes takes a heading warning of ‘discontinued’ to get the attention it deservedly needs and i am glad I took notice. I feel like I won a small lottery and found a piece of olfactory art that I had ignored for so many years!

One last note. Alessandro or anybody who works for Nasomatto I honestly wish that you reconsider keeping this masterpiece in production as It’s undoubtedly one of the best creations that has ever been made. For anyone who has yet to experience China White I strongly urge you to run and test it properly on your skin asap. Chances are that after a few hours, you will return back to the shop to add it to your collection and you WILL own a treasure!

massimilianoinquieto

SmokeyLady

Beautiful, more feminine then unisex. I think China White refers to a beautiful Chinese lady from the past. Delicate skin with white powder and long silky black hair. But she is very melancholic, sitting in an empty dusty room. No opium for her!

It also smells of dried flowers and incense, precisely charcoal disk.

Very sad this is discontinued, why oh why it had to be this one! My top three from Mr. Gualtieri. Only he can make me see such vivid images just by smell.

Ilikewhatilike

Exceeded expectations. Much more realistic (allegedly) than the Tom Ford compatriot. I think it’s wearable, but I wouldn’t be sure what occasions to wear it to. But it has my attention. It’s discontinued in the website, so I’ll keep an eye out for a deal as it’s niche in a bottle. I’m also a fan of black afgano and I like the yin/yang idea @enrium mentioned.

Not an actual review, but taken as of today from official Nasomatto website:
"The Nasomatto China White extrait de parfum (30ml) has been discontinued. The Nasomatto China white perfume oil (4ml) will be availiable as long as stock lasts."
So if you like this scent, then better stock up! It is not availiable to purchase on their website anymore.

Enrium

Nasomatto's creations are some of the most abstract perfumes I've encountered. All are pretty unique; their formulae are kept under wraps, and they are very difficult to describe as a result. I expected China White to be an uncharacteristically straightforward scent; powdery florals. Instead, CW potentially seems like an artistic rendering of cocaine (not that I've ever tried it), as Black Afghano is of cannabis. Of course, it is taboo to glamorise hard drug use, so if this is the case, no wonder Nasomatto has been much more coy about the inspiration behind this scent in comparison to BA. CW features a very clean, slightly chemical powder note, initially reminiscent of laundry detergent but becoming narcotic as it develops thanks to a curious earthy undertone, giving a haze-like effect despite its clean lines (sorry). There is a muskiness during its later stages too, but it is far from a traditional powdery, musky floral scent.

CW is powdery throughout, most chemical at its opening stages. The florals, emerging at the opening, smell quite artificial, bringing the laundry powder image to life. It becomes more evocative of makeup as it develops - the chemical edge softens and the rose becomes more prominent. There is a woody undertone to CW as it dries down, balancing the clean powder with a nice earthiness. Here, it is at its most narcotic - strong and heady, yet somehow quiet. It eventually fades to become a musky skin scent. Sillage is moderate and longevity is long-lasting.

A unisex, transeasonal but completely untraditional scent, CW is olfactory art but, like other Nasomattos, is not the most wearable. Not that Nasomatto would care. Somehow mysterious, this scent is deeply intriguing and expertly composed - to be admired. The yang to Black Afghano's yin (inverted I know, but this way, the colours correspond!). 4/5.

evachen

Wow! So burnt!!
My first impression when I sprayed it on.
I don’t smell any powdery note, its all the woody smell, to be precise: burnt incense
Yes, burnt + burnt woody smell
I think you see what I’m trying to emphasize here.

AoiUsagi

I have no idea what a certain white powder smells like, but this is certainly an interesting scent. Earthy and powdery, a little sharp, not sweet but not bitter or aromatic either. It's not for me but I can definitely see it being for someone else!

samaisling

China White was a very posh, exclusive nightclub in Mayfair (London) for much of the 2000s, so I knew the reference. What I wasn’t expecting (but probably should have) was how much this smelled like a certain white powder that one may or may not have done at China White. Guys… another review said that only emerged in the drydown, but I can smell it from start to finish in an almost photorealistic way (immediately accompanied by the white floral-powdery headache I get from fragrances like youth dew or rive gauche- maybe that’s the scent of a hangover 😭). While I did start to enjoy it more as it settled, and it is fascinating…. I’m more of a Baraonda girl. This one isn’t for me.

Fountain30

Please change this, it’s a fragrance for women AND men.
This is a heady, powdery clean earthy fragrance with subtle but not overpowering floral elements
Projection is massive and literally one spray is all you need (much like most Nasomatto’s)
It’s intoxicating and extremely sexy, for all genders
Make a statement with China white, the sexual white powder vibe will make you irresistible like the endless night

First spray is when you get the floral earthy aspects, it feels like a bright spring day
Then after about an hour it evolves into something reminiscent of 90s, glamour and make up
And then the final phase… white powder. Yep, it smells like you know what.

Daring, dangerous, sexy. A degree of confidence required to pull it off

Don’t be fooled into thinking this is a musky old lady scent. It’s far from it

C-Sauce

It should probably read, “for women and men,” like most of the men’s scents on this site. Nowhere does it indicate being specifically for women. To my nose, it’s a slightly masculine, unisex woody floral musk with a prominent opium note (hence the narcotic allusion).

China White was created during a time of great stress for Gualtieri, and it was the answer to his longing for comfort and solace.

One spray on the back of your neck and you will forget your troubles and fade into the dreamy white smoke of an opium den. I often spray this before bed, and I sometimes wear it out to calm my nerves on hectic days.

If you’re interested in a more explicitly feminine version of this concept, I recommend Secrete Datura by Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier. This strange, narcotic beauty is almost uncanny in its effect, and applying a dab will transport you through the looking glass.

I just want to add something to my previous review. I've had China White for at least a year, and out of all of my perfumes, this is the one that I seem to return to over and over again just to explore and contemplate it more. It's certainly not complex, but I still find it intriguing for some reason. There is no doubt that it seems somewhat different almost every time I wear it, and it seems far more sensitive to things such as season, temperature, drier skin, etc. Today it is very much a powdery floral bouquet and I have to sniff very close to get the driftwood. Often it's the other way around.
In any case, I mention it only because after all this time, I still can't determine whether I love it or loathe it. I just know I keep going back to it just to experience whatever it's offering that day. I can't recall ever wearing it out on any occasion.
Aha! Here's the driftwood, starting to come around strong!!! What exactly IS it that makes me have such polarizing feelings about it? I just don't know, but today, at this moment, I am enjoying it. Who knows how I will feel half an hour from now? I certainly don't!

coffeefifofum

Opens like budget incense in a kitchen where someone is making a salad. Not a fresh green, vegetal, but mostly incense. Dries chemical then musty. TBH the drydown smells like a weak version of a stoner's basement. No floral notes. Minimal powder. (Edit: top negative review says this was marketed as the smell of heroin. My notes are from my nose alone and I wouldn't know heroin if it was handed to me.)

Huge bubble at first but fades substantially in 10 minutes. Skin test in a 75 degree room on a fairly muggy day. Maybe this smells better in winter because it's barely wearable IMO in summer.

churinl

Addendum to previous review - I am enjoying this so much more with the spring weather! The floral and powdery aspects come through more, and the driftwood recedes providing a nice base. I found the driftwood much to prominent in the cooler weather. This has the potential to become a love!

Seuni

This is really nice. The powder and florals is obvious and overwhelming sitting on a clean woody and musky base. This is unisex (but it does lean feminine, bear in mind). This is full of jasmine, more white florals with green tones and a touch of green bitterness. Aromatic, 'electric note' also comes to my mind. This is going to be amazing for days when it's clear sunny sky, maybe touch windy, but below 25°C - spring, but without heat.

Unisex, leaning feminine, not office safe (aromatic powdery touch bitter), best for anything but heat and cold.

okamikiera

This kind of powder will hit a memory for almost anyone. For me, it resembles cosmetics, musk mallow, styrax and rubbery ambers, but also soapy florals and an old china cabinet. Compared against the vague listed notes, I'm rather intrigued. Strangely addicting, but also mothball-esque with the scent of dust and building materials. It’s not very wearable, but certainly evocative.

Ksj_

This is repulsive and unwearable

churinl

Bright lights, big city, circa 1986 NYC. That is the feeling and era China White evokes in me. I first tried a decant of this and could barely make out anything. I didn't know what to think but I knew it had some mystery I needed to unlock. Let me add that though the name should have been a big hint, I put it out of my mind, thinking it just a marketing ploy.
I recently purchased a full bottle, both to get to know it better but also as a collector's item. The price was decent so I pulled the trigger and went to work. The light floral and powder were more obvious this time around, which was a plus, but quite quickly, a genuine, medicinal scent emerged. This was when I began to develop my frame of reference. This perfume has captured the aroma of the taste of cocaine. I have no doubt whatsoever that it's the driftwood accord creating a dusty appeal and it's something I've never experienced in a fragrance before.
So, clearly, I'm of a certain generation and place, and I've lived a little, but I am sharing the benefit of my own personal memories in an attempt to help others wrap their heads around this one. I have ex-Nihilo's "Sweet Morphine", Nasomatto's "Narcotique V", and other fragrances that rely on druggie names in order to drag you in, but in the case of China White, I don't hesitate to say that THIS is a fragrance where the name matches the juice.
In spite of all this, it remains wearable and I continue to find it intriguing. I have yet to wear it outside the home, though I likely will as the days get warmer, but I have to admit that I view it more as an artistic creation than a perfume I love and wear for the sheer joy and beauty of it. Longevity and projection are moderate at best, and as far as recommendations go, try before you buy. It may very well take you to places you remember or have never been.

EDIT - After reading through all of the reviews there seems to be a pointless little back and forth about what China White the DRUG is, so here are my two cents. Yes, China White is a narcotic, heroin to be exact, not cocaine. But let's not lose site of the fact that this is still a perfume, and issues such as skin chemistry and climate play a role in how it smells on us. In my instance, it recalls cocaine regardless of the name, and as I've mentioned, I truly believe the intent was to capture some aspect of these dangerous drugs, thus the name.

CertifiedMoxie

If you love musk, then this is the fragrance for you as it is musk dominant! Unfortunately, I think not like musk in a supporting role, so this is not for me.

hhaddouti

My wife and I love this one. It's totally unisex. Powdery and something here reminds me to Tuscan Leather. People talk about the cocaine vibe. Well, it should be that.

aldinatic

so light its almost not noticeable

Smells like a rich woman on a lawn wearing Prada Candy is holding a bunch of babies. Baby powder filled diapers are exploding everywhere.

Smells like the end of the night in the old Chinawhite club in London….rich and coked up

Very powdery floral off that bat reminds me of the scented powder a well-dressed woman would wear to the ball, Gualtieri love of musk is present and adds a soapy vibe and feel.

A powdery (what did u expect) rose is constantly present.

An evening at the ball, powder makeup a fresh bouquet of various flowers and roses on a hardwood floor.

Comes across as a bit old style hence the polarizing opinions from those who've bought into the beauty industry fountain of youth image, this isn't black afgano and that's ok this fragrance stands on its own.

Old doesn't mean bad

3-word break down - powdery, floral,feminine

Only God knows what people are thinking. This is absolute rubbish , im talking about in rainy weather. Will try in summer months. I doubt this will ever change. There is Nothing addicting to my nose. Its just some Cosmetic powder that women use. Im male by the way.
I hit you with the truth - there is no Addicting feature , all marketing strategy luring people to believe this smells of some drug . Wonder how marketing and names can Influence Peoples mind.. people have no control , fall for the trap and After investing money , fool themselves to believe this is Actually good.

Damn ! China White is Utter Rubbish , disgrace to perfumery.

P.s. I own Blamage , Pardon , Narcotiv V ,Better in terms of scent But nothing to write home about.

Sorry for Being Critical on this one.

Hit me with the Truth , But not with Lies. I go by this philosophy and it works wonders to my nose and everyday life.

This gives me a strong association with the 90's era.

It has something in it smelling like a super clean restroom in a fancy restaurant only a 90's post-soviet era respectful "thief in law" could get in. Paradoxically, it has the ease of airy powder whisked with high-quality roses but smells dangerous. It does not smell provocative at all, yet it creates its' tension with simplicity. You never know what is hiding behind that simplicity but its' name suggests. Instead of rumors and whispers, whether or not, it states - "I'm China white."

I would say if Alessandro Gualtieri wanted to express this sophisticated tension and dangerous nature of a drug dealer offering you a "free" sniff - he nailed it.

PPAN

On me I smell very little powder, but something that resembles more of a roasted vetiver. It's green and incensy and marble-like and very addictive. I keep smelling my wrist. It's like Vetiver Oriental by Serge Lutens but with all the sweetness dialed down by a lot. The simplicity in high quality makes this for me a standout from the Nasomatto line. Love it!

Fragaddict123

I love China white
It’s a powdery scent
It doesn’t project very much
Though it smells incredible
Iam not sure why it is but I love this one
another masterpiece by nasomatto

xvxmatthewxvx

to me this smells like a really clean fresh powdery soap
nothing unique, mysterious, or exotic...just really clean, baby powder fresh

Chesco

The secret to some of his successful frags:
China White: The note of authentic distilled heroin is in this dna.
Black Afgano: Is made with authentic distilled hash from Kashmire.
Blamage: Made with oil from the finest & rare Sandlewood from Yemen cut 25 years ago.

Charlize2014

Blind bought it, however it was a mistake. Smells like cocaine and not the vibe I get from Tuscan Leather TF, that one I like. No matter how much I disliked, I did wear it for the experience, especially after the divorce, I did wear it on purpose because it fit the mood :)))

vetiverica

Soft, powdery and a little sweet. Super wearable. Kind of gets an orange sherbet note in the dry down, reminiscent of Blamage.

Anamandy

A beautiful, lightly powdery, woody floral with a lovely, slightly spicy, dry down. I think it is a very refined scent and not controversial, crazy, or weird, at all. The only thing controversial about it would be the name, which I personally think is silly, except it does seem to have achieved the manufacturer's aim of drawing attention to this fragrance. That aside, this is a woody floral done right. There is a perfect balance of wood to floral that works harmoniously with no note competing with, or overpowering, the other. It is ethereal, yet very present, and has remarkable silage and longevity. One of the best purchases I've made this year. Just wonderful!

MaquiLab

A nice powdery opening, strong woody notes... A very "Scandinavian" fragrance, I don't know why it makes me think of bad weather, rocky landscapes and the modern architecture typical for this part of the world. It's a stern fragrance.

HerNameisVeronica

I've enjoyed wearing this scent for over a year; and it's become my 'go to' everyday scent because, well, it's fun to wear, and appears to be 'floating' just off my skin without wandering off as sillage. So far no office mates offended, only in close meetings I have had people sitting just next to me compliment! I wear it year-round, obvious summer choice, but in winter it seems to also 'fit', playing different notes.
I recently received the 3-scent oil set as a gift (China White, Narcotic V, and Nudiflorum) an have worn the oil once, it ads a depth to the scent, but is an intensification, not change in scent to me. My first scent of this was Absinthe, which is fabulous, especially in fall. I've sampled Narcotic V, which was a little too floral in sampling. I am looking forward to see how oil Nudiflorum wears, the sample was a little too girly floral for me. Duro sample was too dark/masculine to me. China White and Absinth currently tie for best of this house (and 'go-to' daily wear) to me so far.
China White smells more like 'white china' than the drug. The opening is faintly floral - light roses and violets that been ground into a dusty powder--not iris, something astringent; maybe talc, porcelain ceramic or concrete dust? Maybe a fading floral nosegay on a gravestone in a pale dead wood, and a slight hint of incense from the nearby church.
From there, the scent is one I always find myself stopping an sniffing my arm to ascertain what has changed. Something has changed that catches my attention. The floral scent increases over the first few hours, and the incense, light musks and dry magic take turns enchanting my nose. It's sexy not in an overt way; but the way you can sense/scent the attraction of another by being close but not sure.
All of these scents are unusual and will find a devoted audience, but would recommend sampling a few times over a day -- before you write it off at first note or first wear. Every one is a different journey, and like a good maze, leads back to the center of you.

liat

An aldehyde and powder super mix that reminds me of Chanel No. 5 which I don't like. On the other hand (ha ha) I cannot stop checking out my wrist. Do not blind buy.

Roses58

I have been wearing this, during the day, on and off for a few days now. It’s a love but I do adore unusual frags.
On first day wearing I actually got a whiff of a memory of 70s hash smouldering in a cone (yep I’m THAT old) so the intent of this fragrance leading the wearer to a destination of sorts works - for me anyway.
Don’t get any Rose in the dry down, just white flowers, but not sweet pretty whites and of course musk.
Do get other notes but no where near experienced enough to name these, just know that I enjoy this fragrance.
Also, I don’t think this will offend anyone as some of the big hitters from the more “mainstream” houses can.
Anyway, it’s a love for me - sometimes you have to pay a price to get the amazing and unusual 🤩

C-Sauce

China White is reminiscent of iris-scented talcum powder from days of yore. The name suggests something delicate, costly, and addictive.

It doesn’t smell like opium. That’s taking the epithet too literally. Well, maybe there is a subtle opium note in the drydown that is not unlike one of those headshop incense sticks. It’s ridiculous to say it smells like cocaine, which actually smells like aloe + alcohol hand sanitizer.

I would say this fragrance is essentially iris talc with a gimmicky name and unwarranted hype.

It’s floral, powdery, simple, and lovely.

RottigrlNYC

I got a sample and immediately had to buy a full bottle. It’s so unique and hard to describe but I can’t stop smelling it. I went thru my 5 mil sample in 2 days . Btw consider yourself lucky if you don’t know what China White is . You grew up right. Some things are best not to experience or know about.

tulpe

What a strange thing. I can not wear it on daily basis , but I keep sniffing the bottle quite often, enjoying it, , taking a litte dab on my wrist from atomiser without sprayer because sprayed is oh mye boy strong and bold and actually I dont dare to use it from sprayer on day time just for very special occasions. Very special, woody, a bit podwery on my skin, love it, strong and extraordinary, and i love scents i that kind of different way!

Bluebirdpsyche

This is an odd one. I’m not sure of my feelings towards China White... like if entropy had a smell it would be this :All systems conversion of energy unavailable....

This is how I imagine Prince Sirki/ Death would smell like on “Death Takes a Holiday”

Starts with a pungent ammonia like aldehyde and chemical plaster powder blast. Faint incense filament woven through a stark trail of dusty flowers, soapy chalk... bleached fallen fossilized timber wood. The Petrified Forest in a bottle.

This fascinates me and confuses me at the same time, but I can’t stop smelling and trying to understand it either. Longevity is confusing as well. 3 to 4 to 8 hours? I think it’s gone and then I take a shower or something and it’s back, maybe water activates it?

I really don’t know with this one, yet I keep coming back for more...

6opar

This may be the best Nasomatto in my collection. Right from the start I get bubblegum violets, sweet grapes and white powder that make the musky rose-oud plot bling. The whole discourse is blurred by (let me call it) a white noise that fits the overall concept pretty nicely.

Bazza1982

Got a 1ml wore it for a day then got a bottle that night it’s not for everyone 100 per cent unisex it’s modern powder drug intoxicating beautiful floral not a blast of floral but it’s in there it’s phenomenal.... try before you buy

Paulki81

Love this and blamage...fresh, powdery and i get light floral on my skin. It does remind me of that sugar from back in the day...check out Cuba Know on YouTube... he was spot on.

muzzbait

was that me, or did that remind anyone else of Chanel No. 5? I had it on my arm, and it reminded me of my mother in law, who wears it, as long as it projected...

Either way, it's a sweet, dainty floral with mild citrus notes that float up, but, for the most, this is totally not for me...

MartinFord

Guys this one is very good.
It's like Prada Infusion d'Homme/d'Iris Cèdre,
but more intense and floral. Love it.

It's powdery, soapy, luxurious, sexy.

Bubbles1964

Alessandro Gualtieri is one of the best at creating memorable scents from overtly synthetic materials. China White is a defiant and persistent powder, with some dusty flowers, fallen timber and sweet tobacco musk. I think there must be some aldehydes in this mix because I also pick up a retro style, Chanel-like perfume vibe.

China White is named after heroin. I don’t have any experience with heroin but if it smells like this perfume I’m glad I never went near it because this is pure addiction. And this coming from a frag head who normally gravitates away from powder and aldehydes. Excellent performance all around.

Pawly

Underrated scent in the Nasomatto lineup!
In the opening I get some nice, soapy florals. Quite lovely! Not groundbreaking but certainly not bad either. I also detect some musk and also some powdery notes but they're not cloying, which is always a challenge with anything powdery. It's just very pleasant and soft.
The bottle is nice too, Nasomatto just really has a nice way to do them. It lasts quite some time. Not the craziest performance but enough to go to work for a regular day, return home and being left with a nice skin scent to enjoy the rest of your evening.
Again, this is nothing groundbreaking. It's just a very nicely done soapy, musky and powdery scent. I do believe it's more on the feminine side but I still love it as a guy.

shushkin

I usually steer clear of musk scents but I do love China White. On me it's as much about powder and wood notes. It's almost like a soft version of Guerlain Musc Noble. This is a soft and ladylike musk.
No beasts lurking here.

There is a softness with the rose that makes me think of my late beloved Gran. I was picking up on the smell of her face powder and lippy. She used little makeup but I noticed everything. Normally though I would smell her Je Reviens or L'aimant if she was going out.

The powderiness eases off with time and now it is much more woody and bang on unisex.
I get low sillage after 30 minutes and good longevity.

Rosegoldlove

i had tester of this parfume. It’s so different when u compare with other powdery parfumes. It is so sharp and white. All kind of white:) and its very permant on the skin. In my daily life i dont prefer to use it. But it is strong and it sticked in my mind.

Calvini

What strikes me the most is a chalk-like feel—very dry, cold, polished, and minimalistic. It smells of a woman (or rather, an androgenous being) from the future that somehow resembles the past. It is strangely addicting and invigorating, but the wow-factor wears down as if going through withdraw, leaving you blunted... I wish it was more persistent like Cuir d'Ange (which gave off a similar vibe).

ericah12345

Many people are spreading misleading information that this scent was inspired by cocaine. It most definitely wasn't since china white has always referred to opioids. It has meant different things in different eras. In the 70s and the 80s china white referred to heroin, in the 90s it referred to, for example, 3-methyl fentanyl and nowadays it most often refers to furanyl fentanyl but also to some other fentanyl derivatives. China white has also referred to the mixture of pure heroin and alpha-Methylfentanyl. Anyway, the point is that china white has always referred to OPIOIDS. It has never referred to cocaine which is not an opioid.

As the name of this fragrance HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH COCAINE I'm quite sure China White doesn't smell anything like cocaine. I haven't used any drugs and therefore I have no idea how cocaine smells but I doubt that a perfume named after strong opioids would smell like cocaine.

So, about the scent itself...This is a fantastic scent. The white flower notes are one of the most beautiful ones I've ever smelled in a perfume. It's quite dry and clean and in my opinion it's a wonderful, unique fragrance for everyday use. It won't make anyone around you sick as it's not too sweet or overwhelming. It's so beautiful! Your skin but better. Exactly as addictive and potent as its name suggests but luckily it won't kill you.

PerfumedParrot

I sprayed Nasomatto’s ‘China White’ on my mum today after explaining “it’s inspired by the smell of cocaine”. Her eyes lit up and she insisted that I immediately doused her in it. Goodness knows what she got up to in the 70’s/80’s but for her it was instant love. She’s calling it “a classic woman’s fragrance”. I keep smelling her neck and it works so well on her. It has that spicy oriental Chanel No.5 vibe but with a sprinkling of powerdy cocaine. If you’re wondering; cocaine smells like powered, newly opened stationary - that crisp A4 pack of paper sealed in single use plastic, with some chalk dust. (You’re smiling as you know I’ve nailed that description - that’s why I’m good at this.)

I think I know what I’m getting my mum for Christmas.... and a bottle of Nasomatto’s ‘China White’.

HUEbris

it reminds me the fragrance lab that I had worked. so many mixtures and fruity herbaceous woody rosy iris... strong scented sticky absolutes of herbs... but well balanced.

If you have ever smelled pure coke... ;) it smells exactly like this perfume, it's uncanny. Someone mentioned bleached wood below and that's exactly what I get. Ozonic, very interesting composition. Not something I'd reach for but great for studying notes.

Leonyarra

The “white” in China White is also a reference to the white florals that are used. It has an opulent vintage feel, with a modern cushioning of the notes to give it wearability. You must like woody jasmine and powder. I imagine this would be amazing on a young woman, but aging on an older woman. As for men wearing this? It’s nice and unique enough for a small sample for private wearings.

The bottle is amazing. The cap is actually made to look like china plating with cracking lacquer. The bottle I tried had darkish brown liquid, which also looked gorgeous.

Crowleysviles

Male 26 yrs old, I would wear it, this one really cemented my respect for this perfumer. Black afgano perfect on one side, China white also perfect and completely did scent but ~ inverse opposite. only slightly feminine and the specific qualities of this one add to the ambiguity + mysterious-ness

Crowleysviles

Holy cow Nasomatto fragrances have done it when it comes to the purpose/artistic vision for these fragrances. China white as well as black afgano could not have been better it just blows my mind. I never thought someone could come this close , with the full on scent/ emotion/memory stirring details

Pianomelody

evocative and sentimental,a "different" scent, a beautiful musk rests on woods and floral notes. Delicate, the perfect perfume for fragile and nostalgic souls... a timid rose appears after time, what is very evident is the wood and the moss that I really like here. I love this perfume and I think I never leave it...! ❤

LadyIva

This is a bit like Chanel No. 19 EDP amped up to the max! Although China White is not named after booze and drugs, unlike most perfumes from the Nasomatto line, the opening is very green and fizzy, like an aromatic alcoholic beverage. After a while, it becomes more floral and musky, whilst retaining this nice boozy-bubbly quality. It’s crazy strong and long-lasting - definitely not for the faint-hearted!

EDIT:
Guess what, looks like it WAS actually named after booze and drugs - apparently its name is a slang for heroin. Whatever. I don't get any druggie associations when I sniff this beauty, although it surely is addictive!

Jitterbug Perfume Lover

This is my first wearing and I am in love. It opened with a blast of synthetic powder, then morphed into a stark, modern, minimalist bleached wood. It reminds me of blonde wood interiors in modern Scandinavian homes. It's also a very dry wood, which immediately made me think of the opening scene in Luis Bunuel's "Belle du Jour" where they are riding a carriage through the woods in autumn and all the leaves are a beige/blonde. Then, as the story unfolds we find out that Severine, the main character, is driven by her fantasies to become a prostitute to escape the boredom of being a housewife.
This perfume feels exactly like that movie. You would normally think this type of fragrance would be another boring "housewife" feminine floral woody musk, but it's so much more. The musk is ethereal and light, but also animalic. The flowers are beautiful, but abstract. The wood is dry, but has a thread of smokey incense. I love this!

Arabian Knight

'China White' is an elegant dry amber. The main effect strikes me as a cross between L'Artisan's "Bois Farine" and "Potion Royal Black" by DSquared.

It's predominately powdery, clean musk, with an almond-like sweetness, but in the background sits a dusty potpourri rose, dry wood and a touch of incense smoke. The texture is soft and the sillage gentle, but persistent.

I think it's quite sexy. Not sure if it smells like an opium den -regrettably I've never been inside one- but I think it certainly conveys the image of fragile white porcelain. There's a stark purity to it, but a little sensuality there as well. Intriguing and totally unisex.

koolthing

I've had a sample of this for a few years and worn it here and there, but never really understood it. I'm a guy and always thought it smelled really "church lady"-ish. Really reminds me of an older lady in church when I was a kid.
Actually, it's pretty nice. Definitely floral and powdery, but occupies the same space as Helmut Lang edp (a favorite of mine), though it definitely leans more feminine. I could grow to like this on myself in the right context. I wish I could figure out what context that was.

Suzy Schnabel

I really love it. For me this is no musk but one of the best incenses around. Like a second skin, one of the best Nasomatto. Persistent although soft. This incense note stays longer then many others which claim to have it or to BE it . The musk base comes to me only after many ( five-six) hours , then it becomes also just a little powdery. Before THAT I enjoy a sophisticated aromatic incense vibe.

Blackened

This is a half-dry and spiced white musk that seems to move around the edge of the clean-floral concept but from an exotic or avant-garde perspective.
The development oscillate between the clean and the aesthetic.
In some aspects, I get the dry-spicy aura of Antaeus, in others .. the soapy violet vibe of prada amber pour homme.
A strange work, hardly classifiable that suggests to me the analogy of a flower moon.
You have to try this!

RubyBirdy

A mediocre scent with a luxury price tag and repulsive marketing. Blurb in the shop said it was inspired by "high grade horse." Yeah, because overdosing on heroin has such a highly desirable image and makes you smell really great.

File under "trying too hard." Pass.

atlaseetschristmas

China White wasn't even a radar blip on the olfactory sonar-screen of my mind when I finally got around to testing all of the Nasomattos. Somehow all of the fragrances I was excited about never really "clicked" to me, there was something rubbing me wrong about each fragrance. Then I got to china white and I was instantly intrigued.

The overall impression i got when wearing it all day was that of a strange, gasoline treated suede-couch clean-musk fragrance that was extremely modern yet pleasantly subversive. The florals just sweeten and powder up the whole thing, like dusting finely ground dried flowers overtop some sort of hypermodern Scandinavian furniture in a powder room. It's certainly not an easy fragrance to imagine but wearing it was an absolute pleasure. The longevity was fantastic and the sillage was just right to not become cloying (as powdery frags can, on occasion, fill my lungs with a cloying cloud of powdered chalk dust). I think this might me my favorite of the lot.

pravda48

(Sampling from a TPC sample)

China White opens with what I perceive as a vintage powdery wave, soon drying to a (more feminine) leathery scent with an abstract and very soft sweetness beneath. Raised a brow as I thought it might try to go into styrax-leather territory (I hate styrax) but it never did, yay.

The 1st time I sampled it it seemed to go through about 3 phases, but after wearing it a time or 2 more it just strikes me as a gentle leathery-to-suede scent. Nothing incendiary about it other than the name ;)

There is a certain chemical tone to it but it's very gentle and in the background, nothing out of the realm of leather dyes/conditioners and even the whiff of it I got was fleeting. No, it doesn't smell like flowers or woods to me. At all. What I have gotten hints of with various wearings were green suedey tones (oakmoss?), soft incense, and talcum powder as others have mentioned. I also get a sweet vanilla amber crystalline feel far in the drydown once it's all but gone from my skin.

>>>>>TLDR: semi-sweet powder-brushed seude/feminine leather, and an occasionally perceivable bit of oakmoss or smoky naunces. Close to skin but decent longevity, which for me is anything over 4hrs so probably 6+ on everyone else.

RaulS

Only with a rested nose and a rich experience you can enjoy this olfactory creation. Now, after I’ve discovered her soul facets I can say that I met a masterpiece which mirrors the architect’s vision about the most delicate creature on Earth: the new woman.

The journey in discovering her begins with a look and a short break. The debut is wrapped in femininity. Curiosity is flooding my thoughts determining to ask myself. Who is she? Does she have humor? What story whispers her soul? Like in everyday life each human being is wearing armor. In this creation the new women’s armor is represented by citruses. And I’m not the only perfume lover who feels these notes. They have the mission to keep the distance but in the same time attract me to discover her.

The first minutes emotion is cooling down a little bit and how else can feminine delicacy can be displayed than through flowers. There, in her heart, many delicate flowers are dwelling. A shy rose makes his appearance. This is a sign that somewhere in her complexity I’m recapturing her wholeheartedness.

As time goes by I find out that she went through many difficult moments in her life. The soft smoky woody notes are delicate. I associate this finish with woman’s tumult which loves the man but through her kindness she forgives him for the mistakes he did. Close to the finish line she unveils her joy. This is a sign that she passed over all and her soul is laughing again.

The olfactory design has a modern construction, minimalistic I can say. Each note is put with care, giving birth to a well done blend. Longevity is above average. Projection is average. You don’t have to be loud when you say something.

My journey with this perfume is like a treasure whose richness I find in the power of feminine sensibility.

Q80

Cidar, powdery notes, citruses, and some flowers to break the seal. it reminds me so much of Traversèe Cèdre d`Ifrane by L`Arc but lighter, calmer, and a bit rosy and powdery. the kind of flowers here is the vanillalized happy flowers. joyful, cooling and charming to be specific. the citrus plays the part to add the wet sourness to the cedar but the flowerss slaps that gently and says sorry!!

at the end i felt something soapy as well and it's dominating slowly. this fragrance plays a huge game and distracts me in each sniff!
i just smelled the above description in just one sniff! damn he blend it well!

actually this one charmed me so well, and i'm quite surprised that it did!

edit (10th Jan 2014) now i found out why i got charmed up, when it calmed down it went full throttle to Black Gemstone by Stephane 777. it took me a while till i figured it out as mom helped me so!

Lana148

Really nice fragrance! Has modern-minimalist feel to it. Really well blended and non descriptive but on the end - delicate, soft floral-woody-musk composition. Not too sweet, not too floral, a bit dry, feels abstract, will work for warmer weather. Modern but feminine at the same time. It's a type of a fragrance that just gives you that "never in your face" aromatic aura. I like well done "different" fragrances and this is it! Really enjoyed it!

lovescents999

The opening is a nice musk with some rose leaves, since it's so green. Then it changes dramatically. I like the dry down, actually--I noticed that oud is not mentioned anywhere but all what I get is a strong oud note, blended nicely with some powdery notes.

muzzbait

i found this one an interesting example of scent development. it starts off quite pleasant and interesting, and then the (what i thought was) vetiver, green notes and general FUNK kicks in. it became unpleasant for mine, and i probably wouldn't want to wear it again. it was just too intense for me. but having said that, even though i don't like the smell, the development (the journey, if you will) was amazing and the beginning is quite different from the end...

Heroiiiinnee be the death of me. Its my wife and its my life. Man I wish I knew Lou reed RIP dear brother.

If this house that I'm just now learning about(sue me
I've got a kid. He takes up allll my time, happily) wants to get my attention by a name then game on. This hizz better be an addictive numbing euphoric if I take the time to hunt down a hit or two. Bravo for marketing.

ColdDiss

A sharp, spicy rosewood-incense note up top, cuddly dryer sheets below, and miles and miles of empty space between them. Unbalanced and unfinished-seeming, but also weirdly appealing.

psychocandy

China White. Such an AWESOME name for a fragrance. You clearly miss the point if you are 'offended'. YSL Opium? Opium is the crude processed pungent, floral sap from the poppy...this... is the higher-grade extraction of raw opium, created in a lab. 'Heroin' was an actual brand-name created by Bayer corporation for marketing their new wonder-drug, not a street name. Fragrances are narcotic, addictive and create all sorts of effects. I think China White smells like fresh laundry being folded by a cigarette smoker then placed in a chest-of-drawers in a room where Japanese wood temple incense are being burned.

kely katampa

I got a sample today and though i am not a scent expert i'd say it's quite a distinctive perfume which dries down so wonderfully musky to my skin. It doesn't remind me of any other perfume i've smelt having mentioned i do not possess an 'experienced' nose!
Not irritably sweet, sugary or flowery but pleasantly little bit of all. It 'll definitely be a purchase shortly.

myjebo2012

It smells similar to Bath and Bodyworks, Cherry Blossoms! Its okay if you want to layer it also buy the Cherry Blossoms form BW and it will last for hours.

Houdini4

Right!!! So for the authentic effect, I decanted some onto a bent spoon and burned it a little before injecting and let me tell you it smelled awful!

Okay what's with everyone going on about the name? If you think about it most china (ceramic) is white and paint hues are named 'China White' without any intended drug references to street names for smack! Where do you think that came from anyway?
What would people rather it be called....'Snow White'? Which would have ridiculous fairytale and still further drug connotations! RANT OVER!

As for the smell of this it's BIG and BOLD!
Nasomatto don't know how to do anything else.
Even with a scent like this which is powdery and floral it's an industrial Iron fist in a velvet glove.
I get lots of animalistic musk from this which under normal circumstances I wouldn't like especially in a floral scent but this is intriguing to me.
I have to say I quite like china white not for me to wear but I can definitely appreciate it. It has a unique edge and I can't think of many scents like it.

mejohann

Oh my goodness I smelled this juice and HAD to write a review.
Now, I know I am not crazy here. This stuff is a more intense dead-on copy of the scent used in CAREFREE PANTYLINERS! My hand to God.

That being said, I have always liked that scent. It was a kind of surreal experience to have that scent on my wrist for hours. Turns out I like it in smaller doses and that I find it a little overpowering to wear as a perfume (I need less powder and more fruit).

In summary, you guys have to try this. It's hysterical (anyone catch that joke?) and comforting and clean. I give the quality, the juice, and the amazing packaging a 10/10. What a beast man. I LOVE it!

dolcethadon

Just had to add to this that the unfortunate name does not imply to cocaine , china white is street slang for a white colored form of heroin..

fletch

China White, very unfortunate name, street slang for Heroin!!

Sandra2

Despite its awkward chosen name, this fragrance is to me a beautiful, calming and gentle fragrance. On my skin it starts with fresh cut wood, like a just manufactured chest in a carpenters workshop. Actually I can smell the whole workshop and fresh wood lying around. After a while a gentle smell of flowers comes through the open windows and step by step covers the room. It can also be a brand new wooden chest full of flowers..... Anyway, a gorgeous scent, and I purchased the whole bottle :)

iam2sexy4uris

I'm not sure why leather is not part of the notes, but I smell two things: Leather being the strongest and Cocaine, that's all, and I'm not sure if that's the best combination, at least not for me.

jht4060

Amazing how differently people perceive this. I got only a moderate indeterminate flower in the top and then a slightly animalic musk in the middle and base, with a bit of wood. Gasoline, sweet, honey, herbal, bitter, vetiver, citrusy spice, vanilla, incense? Not a whiff. Maybe we are all getting different samples. Strange. Oh wait, maybe a bit of incense! Yes, I did get some rather nice mild incense in the trail, mixed in with the musk. I like China White but I doubt I will pony up for a bottle.

antfarm

This is a wonderful, long-lasting, potent incense blend--probably in the top 5 of all the incense perfumes I have tested over the years. Too bad the drug-related name "china white"(slang for heroin) and expensive price point are major turn-offs.

In Hell's Kitchen, the 53 year old petite Hispanic babysitter wears a lavender silk blouse with black polka dots, and a grown out pixie haircut. The young girl embraces her, feeling her bony shoulder blades through the sheer fabric. The girl exhales and her tangled ponytail becomes a still life.

She's somewhere in Georgia during Spring, climbing up onto an enormous
mound of sandy earth. There's a workshop with tires hanging on the walls, particles of dust float in the shaft of light from the doorway, and on the upholstered wicker bench on the enclosed porch, there is a light blue plastic Pegasus with pink and yellow fairy wings, because even though she doesn't know her age, it's her birthday.

Each time she visits this brownstone off Central Park, it is both worn and exquisite: a red carpet on a severely warped staircase... A square shaped Chinese grandmother insists that she eat a warm, skinless pear covered in herbal medicine. The girl promises to eat it, then hides the bowl under the sink in the bathroom. They are both sure of themselves. They go for a walk to the park at sunset so the girl can jump over and over onto her own shadow.

She is now staring out the window of an empty flat in Istanbul in late afternoon in June. The window is open. It feels perfect to be truly alone.

In Nasomatto China White, there is a reflection that renders mirrors obsolete.

The delicate light beauty others got here missed me entirely. China White on my skin was a combination of chalk dust, sticky musk and fake vanilla. On my friend it was clear synthetic vanilla musk, cheap smelling and sharp. Another friend sniffed it and confirmed that it doesn't remind her (or smell like, of course) in any way of its namesake, though I imagine it's not actually supposed to smell ike cocaine so much as be a figurative representation of the IDEA of...whatever. Stupid gimmick as fuggerone says, and unfortuantely not a winner in the blend for me either. Glad some have found their happy space with this, but my chemistry had other ideas.

dabbling on drug slang, i hate this kind of gimmicks!

meditative. This is sort of tranquil, concentrated matte white. Though it is powdery, it is so in crisp, minimalist way- sort of powder I crave.
I like the way it is composed- brief, clear, nothing unnecessary. Dzen state as perfection in eastern traditions. True class in style.
Bitter woodsy notes are those that actually make this white powder smell unique and worth its so descriptive name

Wow, this one is different. After a nice beginning it started to spark memories of the bowling alley, I realized it was smelling like a mixture of smoke and disinfectant. Not good! Not my thing.

first sniff...wow, could this be signature scent?

I have always been dreaming about a white, lacey, powdery scent...

unfortunately a few hours later it has turned annoying on my skin, like a bunch of white flowers that started rotting...could be the make of some indoles, not sure.
could be a business of skin chemistry.

Reminded me a little of Jesus Del Pozo In white and Perles from Lalique. If you like either of those, you might be crazy over this one.

I freaking love China White! Citrusy spice on top, powder notes in between, and I think some slightly woodsy notes and more powder down low. I'm a horrible amateur at describing scents so I'm probably way off. This smells like summer in a laundromat with the door open, where a warm breeze picks up some hints of dryer sheets. Yes, dryer sheets, and I truly mean that in the most endearing way.

I find it odd that Fragrantica is calling this feminine, because in my opinion it's got 'unisex' written all over it. If this wasn't so expensive (or if I were in a higher tax bracket), I'd probably make China White my signature scent.

On my skin this one smells very similar to Sublime from Jean Patou, only Sublime is more complicated. China White for me is definitely not addictive. Actually non of the Nasomatto perfumes are. In my opinion they all are nice and of a high quality, but overpriced and overrated. China white is no exception.

I’m always suspicious of any perfume that has the word “white” in the name because all too often they are full of lily-of-the-valley, a scent that I really do not like in perfume. Oh, it’s fine on flowers, but I don’t want to smell like the real version, let alone the synthetic version. Finally, here’s a “white” perfume that I can wear! It starts out with a big bouquet of colorful roses and some other unidentifiable flowers, and initially has the air of a classic perfume. But wait - how did they ever get the roses to exit so fast? Within a few minutes it dries out to a slightly powdery, clear scent that may contain some iris or violet, herbal things, dry woody plant stalks, and a slightly resinous note behind it all. There’s probably vetiver in it, and something bitter, maybe artemesia. All in all, this is a really beautiful, delicate fragrance. The sillage and longevity are moderate - it’s gone in about half a day, but a little hint of rose lingers on my clothing the next morning. Not my favorite Nasomatto, but it might be my favorite “white” scent.

Glad to hear that it works on you F_A, but on me this fragrance is pure evil in abottle. I will for the rest of my life stay as far away as possible from it. It smells like sorrow, bad memories and depression on me. Very acrid and at the same time dry. Like flowers covered with something that kills them slowly...

Skinchemistry is amazing. But I recommend brave people to try it tough it is quite uniqe.

This is a very rich, I would say "vintage" fragrance, that brings you back in time to the old Hollywood - glamour on the red carpet, young Elizabeth Taylor and her amazing diamonds, Rolls Royces and men in suits smoking good cigars. A friend of mine said, the beginning of the fragrance reminded her of good old LB Venezia. For my nose, the top notes reminds me of Poeme - flowers soaked in honey, but with a drop of gasoline in it. After a while the smell changed - flowers disappeared, leaving the scent of an extremely sweet and spicy honey with the same wandering scent of gasoline. After some more time my skin had a smell of smokey sweet (but not too sweet) lovely flowers again! The scent of gasoline vanished. I understand why they say China white can be addictive - it has something in it, that attracts you, despite all other strange notes it has. I can even imagine a man wearing this fragrance. It's one of the strangest and the most interesting perfumes I have ever tried and surely it's not for everybody.
