Tocade by Rochas is a Amber Floral fragrance for women. Tocade was launched in 1994. The nose behind this fragrance is Maurice Roucel. Top notes are Geranium, Freesia, Bergamot and Green Notes; middle notes are Rose, Iris, Orchid, Magnolia, Jasmine and Lily-of-the-Valley; base notes are Vanilla, Amber, Patchouli, Musk and Cedar.

Rochas Tocade is oriental-floral perfume introduced in 1994. It is very sensual, gourmand and passionate. Maurice Roucel, the designer, in the top notes offers us refreshing green notes along with bergamot, freesia and geranium. The heart is temperament and provocative. Pure notes of jasmine, orris, and magnolia intertwined with gentle fresh-green tones of lily-of-the-valley. The base consists of amber, musk, cedar, patchoulis, warm and soft powdery vanilla. This very interesting bottle was designed by Serge Mansau.

Mouthwatering gourmand and simply fun in a bottle! Remember Opal Fruits/ Starburst? Like the strawberry one or like a Wham bar.

Just found a half full 100 ml bottle at my mum's.
It seems I bought it in 2011 (july).
I'm extatic.
What a vanilla rose bliss.

At first you can hear very bright red flowers. The smell of red printing ink and fresh plastic toys from the 70s, as I remember them in my childhood, was intensified to the limit. This is so cute! Red-orange velvet of geraniums and Cardinal roses. Zesty woodiness on the base, bright powdery dryness. It's a very beautiful scent, but I quickly grew tired of it. Everything is fine if you apply it minimally, pointwise with a needle.

Tocade is doing some strange things on my skin. I got a very different impression of this scent based on the notes list and reviews; I love rose in every form, love florals, love patchouli, so I was feeling pretty confident when I ordered my miniature. Didn't like it on first wear, so I let it sit for a few months, tried it again, still didn't love it, let it sit another few months, tried it a few more times... and I can't decide how I feel about it.

Favorable impressions: the rose note is pretty strong and realistic, smells like a red rose to me which I like. The florals feel well blended. There's this sort of fresh, deep green quality to it that I think is because of the patchouli. It's a nice, grown-up sort of fragrance; feels classic. Classy, even. I like it for days when I'm feeling serious about rose notes.

Yuck: The amber. It's way too strong and way too sweet, and on some days the cedar and patchouli are very sharp, it makes the scent overwhelming. There's this humid sort of quality to it that I don't really enjoy. As someone else said, there's just a lot going on and it can get a bit too much sometimes. I don't really get any powder.

I don't know, I'd like to like it. Maybe it just needs more time.

This is great as a piece of art and perfectly match the image of a Lovecraftian monster living in a cave in a deep forest...
But as a perfume.... who wants to walk around and smell like a unspeakable horror from another world?

When smelled independently from Woman in Gold, you’d think they smell quite similar for a brief 30 mins after the opening of Tocade fades. However, if you smell them side by side you can surely identify WiG. WiG simply has this amazing, rich brûlée-type vanilla scent tinged with rose. It’s so wonderfully piercing and although very sweet, it never feels cloying. Next to it, Tocade pales in comparison (but of course it is also probably 1/12th the price). Tocade smells nice briefly but the vanilla is cheap and reminds me of whatever is in LolitaLand. It also has that weird plasticky smell Casmir and Vanilla Fields has, which is more subtle but nevertheless disappointing because I’m not a fan of either of those scents. Although people say the reformulation is just fine, I’m guessing the scent has been watered down or maybe my expectations were too high. I have to wear this on it’s own to properly understand it, but so far I can’t shake the reminiscence to Casmir and Vanilla Fields, which smell like cheap vanilla to me.

I will love and cherish my WiG decant but douse myself in Tocade because it’s kind of similar but definitely more wallet-friendly (i.e., less guilt inducing). Perhaps I will pick up a bottle of WiG one day, I just have to finish my 100ml of Tocade first lol

I found a bitty baby vintage vial of this in my mothers armoire and she allowed me to dab a bit on my wrist. It's amazing! I could pick up immediately something chocolatey and anise in it. Like a bit gourmand! Perhaps it has aged into a more mellowed amber vanilla but the powder is very slight, an afterthought to the florals. It's not very intense or long lasting, but be that perhaps a side effect to its aged serum... Nevertheless, a beautiful and classic vanilla floral. The bottle is a work of art, truly a design which encapsulates 90s French aesthetics. Brings about memories of my infancy in Paris and the mobile above my cot, the little triangular hatted stick figured men in my creche, the primary colours... Just so whimsical and beautiful.

Rochas Tocade (1994) - floral amber - #mauriceroucel created this oldie, but goodie option beating more expensive perfumes on both smell and price. Starts with Bergamot, Geranium and grass-like Galbanum, yet quickly transitions to its floral heart: fresh Rose, slightly powdery Iris, creamy Jasmine, and grassy Lily of the Valley. Base gives more depth with Vanilla, Patchouli, woody accord, and resins. Reminds me a garden party eating dessert, yet never becomes cloying or dense.

chimidoro

Reminds me quite a bit of Casmir by Chopard.
Both are too sweet for me and remind me of lollipops I ate as a child.
Candied, fruity, sweet and effervescent vanilla.

CurlGurl

This is definitely vanilla heavy. Its one of those, the closer you get the harsher it gets. Its a beautiful wafting, sillage fragrance. I think it's the cedar that you get the closer you smell it to your skin. But I'm not mad at it. It's a loud, long lasting vanilla and I'm loving it.

swedishmilk15

Comparing a pure parfum, vintage, to the 2013 re-release. The vintage is slightly more citrusy and woody, perhaps just a smidgeon less sweet/vanillic. I smell it more as an aura around me vs. being able to smell it on my skin. Definitely more tenacity from the parfum than from the EDP, but both can trick you into thinking you didn't apply enough. Both versions get a "love" from me! Now, to get my hands on the 2018 version....

Ferra_Verto

I like this quite a lot; powdery & spicy iris with rose, all on a lightly sweet amber/vanilla/patchouli base. There's a particularly 'bitter' current that runs through the scent, makes it feel a touch cold and aloof, but never dulls its shine.
Lasts around 4-5 hrs on skin, 6-7 hrs on clothes. Perfect for warmer months, though I think you can get away with this in autumn & winter.

Rochas is a brand that produced more than its fair share of classic fragrances over the years. They tend to have big, distinctive personalities, even veering towards the gauche, but any I have smelled are noteworthy and interesting. Femme is perhaps the most well-known Rochas (and my favourite), but honourable mentions must go to Madame Rochas and Byzance. I would consider Tocade to be the closest thing to a modern classic for Rochas. Therefore, the name seems to be, in hindsight, tongue-in-cheek - "tocade" translates as "fad", but Tocade is still very relevant 27 years later. Tocade is a big, sweet floriental, nicely crafted and well-blended. I have a vintage miniature dating from the 1990s. Maurice Roucel of Insolence fame composed this, and it is typical of his style - big, sweet, amber-floral perfumes. Also, excellent bottle.

Sweet from the initial spray, Tocade opens with a sweet freesia note, tempered slightly by the fresh citrus and green notes. I don't get much geranium. A big, sweet rose note rears its head early on, taking centre stage. The floral heart is rounded out by creamy magnolia and jasmine, and vanilla creeps in, adding sugary sweetness as it develops. The powdery iris note that emerges a little later is initially a welcome reprieve from the sweetness, then becoming assimilated into the bouquet after a little while.

The drydown is sweet, with a pleasant amber-vanilla accord developing on the skin. Soft woody notes and patchouli complement the florals at this stage, and it fades to a sweet musky skin scent. Sillage is strong, and longevity is day-long, as is often the case with vanilla florientals. It is almost a gourmand - the heavy vanilla note veers towards cookie territory during the drydown, but the florals, especially the rose, are the main event.

Feminine in a pretty, sweet yet not exclusively girlish way, this is one of the better florientals I've smelled. Sweet scents such as this are not to my taste normally, but Tocade is among the very best. Here to stay, despite the name. 3.5/5.

This review is for Vintage Rochas Tocade EDT (Blue turret cap atop green bead neck.)

This lady is a classic for good reason! On my skin, she opens with green herbaceous and spicy Geranium notes. Those give way to her floral heart. Iris, Magnolia and Jasmine and a gentle LOTV. All cycling around a majestic, yet subtle, Rose.

As she warms up to you, she envelops you in her gentle Amber aura. A very subtle Vanilla sweetness wafts, rounds out, and lasts through out her impressive lifespan; with moderate projection.

Everything about this subtlely floral, cozy, and lightly sweet fragrance exudes warmth class and comfort. Classic, yet modern. Simply timeless. Well done, Msr. Roucel!

Elfactory

Oh dear. The 2018 version is nowhere near my cup of tea for warm, vanillic fragrances. Pretty much all I get is a very mild bug spray and plastic doll heads. I can see how some are drawn to that kind of scent, but having smelled the round sweet amber that is Rochas Absolu, this is no sister of Absolu. I'm thinking to stop blind-buying based on YouTube reviews from now on because I clearly don't appreciate what many others find beautiful. Will be selling this along with EA' White Tea, another mistake buy based on stellar reviews.

Pickeral

I've tried my decant of Tocade several times now, I was hoping to love it, but I don't. It seems nice-ish, it's not offensive and is sort of pretty, but there are some notes I don't like. It's a little plasticy at the beginning, which compromises it and then as it dries down the persistent vanilla floral just dumbs it down. It seemed sweet and dull to me. I don't know if this is the current formulation but I suspect so, maybe it's not as nice as it used to be? It's okay, but not that great. There are other florals w some vanilla that are better.

pratikshamalayil

Scent is youthful and warm. Has a plastic accord- I don't know where I'm picking that up from, but it does smell like a baby doll or Barbie. Also smells vaguely like Froot Loops! Opening is okay, but the dry down is when it gets beautiful. People can smell Tocade on me from a mile away, and it seems to be inoffensive. Good scent overall, timeless.

Pickeral

I tried a dab from a decant just arrived, (that's one way to afford this habit) and this one is very likable. It is sweet but not overly, it has character, and tho it doesn't project much it has staying power, and the combo of rose and vanilla is lovely to me. I wish I could pick up more notes, but I just don't have the nose. It's a quiet perfume and I think the rosy vanilla agrees with my chemistry. So, looking forward to getting to know it!

krmarich

A few years back, I picked up bottle of Tocade on a whim. Just kidding, this was years in searching for the right color of cap and the right vintage price. In the late 1990s I found bottles of this all over TJMaxx for about $12. I would have stocked up on every bottle had I known now, what I knew then. I was smart enough to get Alchemie! Rochas had the most elegant bottles with stunning contents. Tocade was the everyday beauty that I foolishly passed over.

The most amazing thing I find about it is that is can be worn by females from age 5 to 115! It is graceful and feminine beyond a doubt. The right man can pull this off as well. I like it before bed on cool autumn nights. It is best worn on the skin.

I do not get the difficulty wearing this from some writers. Its gentle, with little projection. If you want difficult to wear from Rochas, try Byzance. It wears you!!!

The simple description is rose petal, amber and vanilla which oversimplifies this complex, delicate composition. The other florals are so skillfully blended that they peek out from time to time-little white florals and iris. The real drama begins with the amber/musk vanilla base. It is powdery and sweet. Almost like baby lotion. I am surprised this wasn't marketed to children! Instead its universal appeal is for everyone.

This is a fairytale in a bottle. The classic cap resembles a castle turret that a sleeping princess is hiding. This is not the Disney content. Rather a storybook before bed. There are no ogres or evil queens here. Just sweet dreams...

Mysticmiah1970

Had this perfume years ago and loved it. Ive been revisiting some of the oldies recently so purchased tocade.
The initial spray i get alot of green notes but 10 minutes later the magic happens
A beautiful floral almost aromatic smell which then gets creamy and powdery before the wood notes come in to play in the mix
I cant pick out all the floral notes as i find it so well blended but definitely smell rose, jasmine and Freesia. So happy to have this little gem back in my collection

Recently blind buy as a YouTuber recommended. What a beautiful perfume with a huge longevity. For sure is a very underrated fragance.

indiglo

A gold capped cylindrical bottle, no funny hat, 1/2 oz., not sure how old?
Just first impressions - rich, different, I get complex notes, feminine, a bit sultry, opens potent/somewhat heavy on me. I like it, not sure it's typical "me" (that's not necessarily bad, I might want something different for some moods or occasions), more testing required.
----------------------------
Another wearing, caught a bit of a mint note, I assume the Patchouli, which in combination with the vanilla gave me an impression of mint ice cream. :)
------------------------------
This one does have different facets that appear with different wearings - today a smoky incense vibe, I like!

Jabouba

This one is one of my favorite from rochas since 1995

Madyana

If you are wondering if you need this, then you need it! Maybe not now in the spring, but before winter, you need it!
This is not the usual vanilla, could go some niche.
I couldn’t even say vintage, because I can’t associate this with anything old-fashioned, like aldehydes, heavy spices, sharp flowers or soapy...but I am not vintage expert anyway. Mayby very far away here could be the atmosphere of a Chopard Casmir, but this smell way better! I think. This is edt, but I don't even want to know what edp would be. The scent is rich, deep and durable. Apparently I have a new version and I'm really happy with this.
Bravo Rochas!

Art_in_a_bottle

It reminds me of Salvador Dali's Itislove! It's quite floral and somehow earthy!

CdeBXL

Oh, Monsieur Maurice!
So grateful for this wonderful scent.

Fresh green notes are immediately knocked over -not knocked out- by bold sweet notes and enchanting iris. The whole is perfectly brewed into a creamy silky blanket of sweet spice and bold flowers on vanilla and resins. This is what yummy is all about.

This is a personal comment on the vintage one, but the reform is almost as enjoyable, albeit less complex and layered, but still outstanding.

An utter delight! Just fallling out of top 5 but a perfect 6th in over 250 fragrances in my hoarde.

PerfumeKeeper

Today I got a full vintage bottle ( green cap and orange "neck", like the advertisement poster with the female model ). I had bought the most recent version in 2020, also in the same size. The verdict: I love them both. What I can say is that the vintage version is more sensual and sophisticated. The recent version is more "vanillic safe", so it´s still a good buy.

Heliotropea

2011 version

Sometime several years ago when cleaning out my cupboards I almost put half of a 100ml bottle, produced in 2011, up for sale. But I didn't.
I haven't worn it for a very long time but today with the snow piled high outside I thought the time was right.
Sooo happy I didn't get rid of it.
This is really a scent so deep I can drown in it. It doesn't just envelop me, it devours me whole, pulls me into its unique warm, comforting depth, floral but not girlie, very grown up vanilla, creamy amber ....and then, powder, powder.
PERFECT !

Sillage : 9/10

This perfume reminds of lolitaland by Lolita lempicka! It's so yummy 😍

I saw it a couple of times at the vintage boutique where I "renew" my perfume and jewelry collection. I smelled it the first time it only gave me vanilla, I'm not the kind of woman for vanilla, now honestly how many hawks have you seen smelling like vanilla? I don't want to disappoint all the people who call me hawk so dearly. After I sprayed my hand with the test dose, I tried two more which I after bought and then I went to serve lunch, so I washed my hands. The second time when the bottle winked at me, months later from the first test, I sprayed again, vanilla again, disappointed again, but this time I let it on the hand. When I arrived home I raised my hand to hang my coat in the dressing room...wow the most greenish magnolia, Iris and lily of the valley I ever smell with a beautiful hint of amber and a little spicy. I was shocked, I smelled my hand in continue for hours, it changed from this green flower into a woody one with freesia then returned to the first note of vanilla but more airy and after it went into a cold aquatic floral note somehow. It's a very interesting perfume, of course I bought two vintage bottles the next day. It's not really my kind of perfume, I don't wear it at the office, but I wear it in bed in the evening, on romantic evenings with my husband, in a shopping session or even when I simply read in the garden. It's a warm and delicate scent, it has a detached noble air and a light vibration of power, but a dormant power😂, like a sleeping grizzly bear cute but lethal if you awake him.

ElisabettaVanessa

Rose, vanilla and amber goodness. Sweet, luscious and sexy!

MademoiselleMaya

Very warm, sweet rose - vanilla - amber comfort scent. It has depth and a day long longevity. The rich and classy constuction is unachievable on today's market of simple chemical scents - so if you crave a comfy, sweet gourmand with a floral heart and have a chance to buy Tocade - do it, you won't regret it. It is truly hard not to like this great scent.

Vilja Vee

It has an almost sickly sweet fuzzy moisturizer type of accord which grosses me out. That said, it has an overall icy cold Everest kind of vibe which refreshes sufficiently. It's sort of like the backdrop is gorgeous but the foregrounded object is as silly and off-putting as a plastic toy piece on the cliffside of a snowy mountaintop. Too high up the mountain to feel appropriate. You can't escape your kid anywhere

Gnossiennes

One of the classics created by great Maurice Roucel for Rochas. It's said to be the very pioneer of the combination of vanilla and rose.

The vintage version opens up with somehow dry greenness. It's like those corrugated fiberboards a decade ago, which is always sandy on the surface. Under this curtain, here come our divas. The rose is fully soaked in vanilla, which is viscous like syrup, but not cloying. So perfect and harmonious that you can see the golden liquid slowly dripping from the petals and through the stalk.

Tocade is like a friendly neighbour girl, but also lovely on boys. Some may regard this as old or dated, but I guess it works out well on those nice and innocent (instead of those pretentious :) ). (Also, the price is very affordable even for teens.)

Due to its syrupy nature, Tocade may be a little bit too much for hot summers, but delightful for the others.

The longevity and sillage are both fantastic. (Even my father's blunt nose can tell there are something fragrant when I'm wearing Tocade.)

Just hope Rochas will revive with (more) classics one day.

labonvie

After years of adding and deleting this from my shopping cart, I finally bought this for the first time in a fit of pandemic blind-buying. Upon first sniff it was instantly recognizable. It smells like the 90’s. Specifically the mid-90’s when ambery vanilla fragrances were ubiquitous. The rose (and geranium) makes this unique and especially lovely. Tocade is thick and jammy and dense and floral-spicy. I’ve outgrown most of the vanilla scents I once wore with pleasure (even the superb and sophisticated Un Bois Vanille by Serge Lutens) but I can wear this because the rose is green and spiky enough to keep the sweetness in check. This will likely come off to many as old and dated. I consider it a throwback masterpiece. Maurice Roucel is a genius. His perfumes are always complex and exquisitely blended. This is no different. In a weird way, I even like the ugly bottle. It just works. Love!!!!
If you like any of the Juliette Has a Gun fragrances, try this.

jule9

For me this is the scent of Christmas. At least this is how Christmas smelled pictured in my infant memory, with spices everywhere, precious fragrant candles, sweet cakes, perfumes mingling in church. It's super sweet and super feminine, but a bit high-energy. It develops wonderfully with body heat, much worse on clothes.

Austrian_in_Denmark

Tocade is so pretty and well-made. Powdery and sweet to the extreme, with decent longevity and sillage. I get absolutely no rose and no geranium, just lot of amber and musk after a short citrussy opening. Very well blended and ultra-feminine in a vintage way.

When I smell this, I see a friend of my parents' before my eyes, who in the late 80's/early 90's always wore red lips and clothes in strong colours. Big earrings, tight trousers and very, very high heels. I don't think I ever smelt Tocade on her - just read it came out in the mid-90's, so no. But this style fits the scent.

There is an attitude to it that I admire, something like: Do others think I am too much? I don't know, I just love it.

Marivictory

Ambery vanilla which is delicately mixed with floral and citrus notes giving it a vibrant feel to it.

I like this in a way that it smells young and timeless at the same time which very few perfumes could accomplish. I can imagine this as a memory scent for those who used this growing up - I didn't because it wasn't in my wardrobe before but do I wish it was a memory scent for me? Yess I do.

This is something I wish I had worn in my teens.
It is a great Amber Vanilla with citrus hinted as it dries down.

UnearthlyApothecary

I decided it was finally time for me to try the Rochas classics so I found a set of vintage minis for a great price and started with Tocade. I LOVE Tocade! It reminds me of one of the great 90’s vanillas mixed with one of the great 90’s ambers. Like a mix of Vanilla Fields and Fire & Ice. There is this plasticky doll head vibe too. Tocade kinda smells like a scented Barbie Doll. Sticky amber and greenish vanilla with rose and iris, and a nice musky cedar base. The silage is pretty skin close but this is based off just a few dabs from the mini bottle. I imagine you could get great silage from a spray bottle. I have to upgrade ASAP ;)

Lulushka

Tocade is not so much a perfume as it is an aura, a sort of portable atmosphere that hovers around the wearer at about 5-6 inches away from the skin, especially during the first couple of hours of wear. It took some getting used to. I even thought for a while there might be something wrong with my bottle, because it seemed like I could barely smell it. Then I realized it was *everywhere*, all around me, and only hours later it began to settle in close to my skin.

This came as quite a shock, because from Tocade’s reputation and the reviews I had read, I was expecting a big rose/amber affair in the tradition of the old school grande dames that feel like a brocade ball gown or a heavy silk caftan, the sort of thing made for lounging around with heavy lids and maybe an opium pipe or at least one of those old fashioned hash pipes that the movies always confuse with opium pipes (in case you want to know which is which, watch Once Upon a Time in the West or The Lover—those pipes that have the large cylindrical attachment on the end, that have the flame of the lamp applied only to the side of the pipe, and seem to require quite a bit of puffing—you never actually burn real opium the same way you do hash materials. Hash pipes look like look like traditional tobacco pipes, only with really long stems and little tiny bowls. Sorry if this seems pendantic, but (1) it matters for lots of reasons, and (2) I’m a historian).

Anyway—despite the regal materials in Tocade’s composition, rose and amber are not the whole story. It’s as light on its feet and as graceful in its carriage as Ginger Rogers—yes, backwards and in heels—and it seems to swirl around in lighthearted wisps with no particular gravitational pull. I can never smell it directly, nose to skin, until at least eight hours in, when it’s at its softest and most pillowy stage. I think it’s the powder, which is every bit as comforting as boudoirish as Lorenzo Villoresi’s Teint de Neige, and I sometimes think I even smell a little heliotrope, but it’s probably just because I have such strong associations of heliotrope with rose, vanilla, iris, and powdery musk.

The rest of the perfume is mostly a springy bouquet is mostly there singing backup harmony, a chorus of mezzosoprano voices that contribute to the perfume’s overall lightness. I don’t really pick out any freesia, which is mercy, as freesia is one of the few florals that I don’t have a loving and comfortable relationship with, probably because I have too many associations with it and 1970s shampoo (I love 70s shampoo, but—excuse pardon the metaphor—I can’t disentangle the memory enough to consider the scent worth the price of perfume. I’m working on it). Maurice Roucel’s signature waxy magnolia is also present, languid as ever, but like the other grand elements herein, it’s relaxed without being aggressively so. I feel like the perfume wants us—me, whoever wears it and whoever smells it—to chill out and take things as they come. It’s a perfume for spring and summer, especially evenings, when the weather is turning warm, the fireflies are starting to appear where I live, and soon the afternoon and evening air will be filled with the chants of locusts and the warbles of frogs.

Even the perfume’s densest elements, the patchouli and amber, don’t really have their usual Oriental formality in this context. They’re too weightless and soft around the edges, too romantic and zaftig. The powder and vanilla never let them take themselves too seriously, so what I get from them are their more comforting and warming qualities—the chocolate and gentle spice of patchouli, and the sweet creaturely comfort of amber. This perfume is for evenings with the windows open, Chopin in his less fussy moods, Debussy, downtempo and ambient music, silk chiffon, layered tulle, soft slippers, and curling up with my lazy and slightly pudgy cream-colored Siberian cat, whose purr makes my entire bed vibrate. She keeps my feet warm while I fall asleep listening to my favorite Roman history podcasts (if you want to know, I’ll send you a link. They’re really good bedtime listening). That’s my Tocade.

So I just can’t take Tocade that seriously. I know it intimidates some people, and believe me, I was prepared to be intimidated. I have plenty of perfumes that do that, and need them for those times when I want a boss bitch in my life, a dominatrix, a shot of confidence, of I’m just feeling like a badass. But this glorious powder bomb isn’t one of those. Spring is here, and when I’m not wearing my exhilarating chilly greens and polleny yellow florals, my middle-aged lady’s fancy is lightly turning to thoughts of Tocade. Especially as I wind down with Livy and my beloved Lulushka-kitty (I don’t speak Russian so I hope I’m not bastardizing anyone’s language. Pedantize away) at my feet. Maybe you’re already familiar with the cozier side of To are, but maybe you’re not—and if you’re not, one of the great things about perfume is how your perceptions can change completely from one wearing to the next. The next time you wear Tocade, try it my way. You might see it in a whole new light.

VolDeMinuit

Flowers, amber, and vanilla like you've never experienced before. When you thought there was nothing else to explore within this genre, Maurice Roucel surprised us all by going a different route, infusing a classic theme with a good dose of impertinent modernity. True to its name, the scent feels impulsive, obsessive, almost maddening. Wear Tocade if you want to be instantly recognized as the bitch who is in control. That's all.

maci2222

Opens with cream soda (yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm) and moves to vanilla powder rose. Smelling the *tiniest* bit dated, this has held up incredibly well over the years. It is spring here and this is smelling great. I can see this working any time.

For the price this might be one of the best perfumes you can buy. Wait, scratch the price part.

kiraagold

Cream soda cocktails at a retro '90's New Year's Eve party.

She shows up to the festivities with bourbon fumes and bubblegum on her breath, then dances with sparkling rose geranium over vanilla amber. Fades to a sweet kiss of powdery patchouli for Auld Lang Syne.

Pandarapt

Powdery oriental full of garters, gussets and corsets, cozy Bed & Breakfast roses and makeup frou frou vanilla.

She is inside fashionable circles and probably fawned over, but really is a chill girl that likes to stay at home and binge watch while eating raw chocolate chip cookie dough with a personality of a cat owning librarian with beehive hair. She also has this weirdo obsession with having geraniums everywhere. I like her.

A step-out-of the-box oriental with a quirky aura and a blink-and-miss special quality about it .

Poof, it's a powder bomb

If anyone wants sex in a bottle, this is it. Not the new Scandal by JPG. This. This will last and last and last. On top of being sex in a bottle.

CygneNoire

This is pure powdery goodness! I have the EDT version. I was expecting it to be stronger due to other reviews about the EDT and EDP versions. As time goes on, I start to smell the spices and the lingering powdery note. This is just so lovely <3

fortunatsounis

If you would like to buy it because you are looking for a cheaper alternative for killian woman in gold: It smells similar, but definitely not the same. I miss that kind of intresting nad strong "sparkeling gold effect" thing from this, if you compare to that one. I am not telling it's not there, but not the same amount. This one is way more powdery-creamy. Of course, it still smells nice, but not as nice as that one.

Phantomias

Tocade is a rich ambery perfume, with notes of vanilla and honey (which doesn't appear in the pyramid). Not as potent as Casmir and thankfully free of the harsh notes that perfume sometimes has, T. is a warm and slightly spicy embrace from the past.
Average sillage and lasting power make T. work safe. Not particularly feminine, T. should work on a man, too.
The flacon is unusual, a study in contrasting shapes. I like it!

frankincense&myrrh

Hitherto having never been one for vanillin centred fragrances, nor gourmands -- perfume, candles, bath & body products or otherwise -- I was initially turned off by TOCADE, which I confess I'd never known despite its seeming celebrity (Luca Turin, no less) status and extremely reasonable price point. But having been disappointed bitterly by a recent blind buy I was determined to sniff first and think about it.
Well, low & behold, after my first impression of vanilla custard pastries had me dismissing it outright… something must have stuck, and in a good way. I came back to it a few days later for purchase.
Having read in someone's review that somewhere in this pudding was to be found a near incense like patchouli amber, I was intrigued. And this indeed is what has brought me back I believe. Incensey, balsamic, resinous, smokey anything (even in the powdery vein, which is more what we have here) ameliorates any multitude of sins to my nose. True, I am still struggling with the vanilla marzipan-ishness and, yes, Turkish Delight connotations so clearly elaborated in this however, the rose -- a note I do love -- with just that touch of something incense floating through it is managing to balance things out for me. I'd like to think I've found a vanilla/gourmandish I can appreciate! One likes to believe one's olfactive horizons are expanding.
That said, if I can't get TOCADE cooperating fully with my nose on its own, I'm of a mind to layer it with something spicy. I've a feeling that that will not disappoint.
Oh, and despite its numerous, harsh critics, I find the cap & bottle -- with clear mid-century references (which was quite a "tocade" in the late 80's & early 90's, remember) -- marvellous! … contemporaneous set designs of Maestro Almodóvar films come to mind.
My bottle is 25 years old but seems to have been stored fairly well. So far longevity seems promising and sillage is, though far from overwhelming, radiating decently at arm's length - which for its age is impressive enough, especially considering how hot & wet this summer is.
Warm & irreverent. Familiar yet obscure.
TOCADE has got my attention.

Supernova07

I blind bought this fragrance based on the reviews here on this site. When I received it, though, I hated it. It felt dated and like too much of all the wrong notes on my skin. Then, a happy accident occurred. I discovered that it layered so beautifully with other fragrances adding a sweet, powdery note.

I started experimenting with samples that I didn’t like and adding a layer of Tocade to create several beautiful concoctions. So, if you hated Tocade on first whiff, try experimenting by adding it to other fragrances. As a layering fragrance, it’s kind of magical. You might find, like I did, that sometimes the whole IS greater than the sum of its parts.

gtabasso

rose, amber, patchouli, musk, iris, geranium, freesia, orchid done in a lovely vintage warmth. Cozy. I have the vintage splash bottle. The amber is so powdery that it has an incense vibe to it. Delish.

PerfumePatty

I have a vintage bottle with dark juice. The opening on my skin is lemony geranium, which dries to a sweet powdery rosy geranium vanilla. I agree with PLUMPIE, it reminds me of the candy Turkish Delight (which has rosewater as an ingredient). It's a delightful, fragrant sweet treat! A great geranium perfume, if you like that note (I do). I don't think the bottle's tacky, I think it's adorable!

tandaina

Mmmm. I avoided this for YEARS because the bottle is so dang tacky.

So I'll start with that: the bottle does not match the scent at all. Please ignore the bottle. I bought a vintage refill bottle (pictured above) and decanted some into a decorative spray bottle.

This is pretty. Very pretty, and very feminine. It is rose, a soft sweet gentle rose, and vanilla. Warm fuzzy vanilla. The whole effect so soft, gentle, and easy. Maybe the perfect rose/vanilla for days when you want to smell beautiful without any chance of offending a single person.

Just something simple and delightful about this one. Ignore the tacky bottle, buy the vintage refills and put it in your own bottle worthy of this sweetheart.

SailorV

Today I used my decant of Tocade I won in a generous giveaway on Fragrantice for maybe the 4th time. Clumsy as I am I dropped the little glass atomizer on the floor and broke it just after spraying. I‘m so sad I don‘t have this beauty anymore, and it‘s also quite overpowering as a room scent.

The fragrance reminds me of the 90s so much. I remember I had a very cute sample of Tocade (completely with a round lid with the little cone hat on top) when I was a child and I already liked it back then. It‘s a sweet and happy floriental with the main notes of vanilla and a beautiful rose note that is neither extremely jammy, nor soapy. I also get a hint of leather in the beginning for some reason. Tocade is lush and creamy with a syrupy vibe, but it‘s not as sweet as todays gourmands. I think the geranium keeps the scent fresh for a long time and cuts through the sweetness. The patchouli note is noticeable, but it‘s deep in the base and not dominating the scent.
There is something about this that reminds me a bit of the Jimmy Choo fragrance line, maybe the combination of lush sweetness, patchouli and orchid, not in the sense that they‘re dupes, just a faint whisper of similarity.

However, this is a beautiful fragrance, feminine and warm and though it’s very 90s, it‘s not dated in a bad way. If I‘m not completely over it when my bedroom stops reeking of it, I might one day get a bottle of my own.

cake n' cuddles

I got a little decant of the vintage version of this. I'm not really wild for it. It smells like powdery vanilla and a vaguely mature smell. It's funny how much of a hard time I have picking out notes in this composition but it really smells like one solid scent to me without a lot of contrasts. I do think I smell rose, geranium, patchouli, and bergamot. Although it smells like it's part of the vanilla powder. The scent is one big blob in my nose.

It's got that warm fuzzy quality that ambery powdery vanillas tend to have. A sweater weather perfume. I'm just not that into it unfortunately.

PLUMPIE

Turkish delight! A little bit like jpg classique on me. I Like it but not a love so I have parted with my full bottle and kept the 5ml. Pretty and elegant but not something I would wear too often.

theuntrainednose

To be honest, I should like this a lot but don't.

It's warm, very warm and very ambery, a hint powdery and a little floral. And heady and almost fat, like melted butter and old woods. Sensual and heady, which I usually love.

Yet, for some reason, after a little while it gets almost nauseating for me. It's not that I think it smells bad (it smells very good) or that I don't like strong warm perfumes (I do). But there's a note, I am not sure which, that after a while gives me a bad feeling in my stomach :(

I own a sample.

stacia79

SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT. No really, it literally smells like the Teen Spirit deodorant that I had in the early 90s. The specific scent was "Romantic Rose" and sure it was rosey but it was also powdery because, deodorant. That's how Tocade starts out on me anyway. A very powdery deodorant like rose-vanilla. Dries down to a dry vanilla talc like you might smell in YSL Manifesto.

mounen

This has a powdery talcy quality to it that is just like Lou Lou.

Duende

Instant migraine in a bottle, I'm sorry to say. But that's just me.

chloematilda

I confess I'm not a green lover, and very choosy with the florals I like, so I was a bit worried I wouldn't like this anymore. I wore it years ago and loved it, so when I found it tres cheap, I thought, why not.

It opens very green and floral and I hated it. It gave me that sharp pain right in the middle of my forehead. But I gave it some time.

After about half an hour and it smoothed out beautifully, revealing it's lovely amber and vanilla, and mixing lovingly with the now softened floral and a hint of woodiness. I don't get the freesia, but a lovely rose and powdery iris mix settles in.

It's not the Tocade of my memories, but that could just be my nose. I've been swimming in a sea of oriental vanillas which I'm loving. So soothing and yummy.

But, given time, this is truly beautiful and like nothing else I own. I'm glad I didn't scrub and gave it a chance. This is a year rounder, and quite easily unisex. Excellent projection and longevity. And for $32, a very smart investment. This one will be getting lots of wear.

Oh, and did I mention the bottle? Truly beautiful and a real mid century feel - reminiscent of a piece of Murano glass. It's plastic, but's it's a lovely addition to my collection. If you're a floral/green lover who wants to creep over to the gourmand section, this is a good starter fragrance. Enough of each to please both sides.

@catwoman408

I think it's unlikely you have a fake - if you are testing this and not the new version, what you may have is an old bottle which hasn't been stored well.

This version of Tocade was discontinued a few years ago and the market was flooded with cheap bottles when I bought mine in 2016; checking now, it appears there are still quite a few available through online sellers.

You could hang onto the bottle you have and try testing again in a different season. I was really surprised a couple of weeks ago when I tried Fleur Burlesque, which I had last worn in the summer; in cold weather I barely even liked it.

catwoman408

This is a (sort of) negative review, so if you like this perfume, you might not want to read it. Fragrances are emotional and I don't want to mar anyone's enjoyment of this fragrance with my perspective on it.

Did I get a fake? All I'm smelling is cedar, pencil shavings, something green and lots of soap. It doesn't smell like something for a woman...or a man. This would be appropriate to scent heavy, dark wooden bookcases or crocodile leather shoes or a billiard table with dark green baize. Not a safe blind buy. It smells nothing like what its bottle looks like. The bottle is clear, light and playful with a touch of blue. The fragrance I received is all deep brown and green, heavy wood, cold dusty rooms and soap.

The drydown is sharp, stinging and chemically floral. Still soapy, but there's also something light and fascinating now. The bottle is starting to make sense. It's abstract, youthful and clean.

Max Logan

Killer vanilla. Had to put it away. Its so strongly sweet, that I feel suffocated.

cedar_lea

The combination or iris, rose, cedar, and vanilla smells a little plastic and similar to baby oil on my skin. It's a pity. Every so often I get a woody vanilla that is exactly what I was hoping for. Every so often there is an incense and Rose smell that is so elegant. Occasionally there is a really rich and sappy cedar note. . . . But unfortunately this scent just isn't for me.

Mimosa.Sensitiva

Tocade is a hug in a bottle for me. It is such a warm fragrance and the perfect combination of gourmand, fruity oriental. When I first sprayed it on my skin I thought: Oh no, this smells like Casmir by Chopard! It was quite boozy. But no, the drydown is so scrumptious and warm - orange, rose, vanilla yumminess. Somehow the drydown is a bit powdery as well on my skin.
I will buy another bottle very soon as I have also received compliments whilst wearing this.
I LOVE THIS VINTAGE BEAUTY!!! :-)

JetsBabe

This reminds and smells a little like tobacco? Just fail. I expected more. Don’t buy if young; this is more for a mature woman 40+

cocolover56

This fragrance has made me question whether or not a fragrance can be a gourmand if it only contains one or two very tasty notes... vanilla and rose combine to make an incredibly sumptuous dish that I simply adore. It smells of caramel, rose water and candied violets... like a cupcake loaded with icing instead of the actual baked good... fascinating that I'd never liked it until now, though. I'm glad I held onto the 4 decants and several samples I had!

Green, geranium... but candied flowers and aforementioned gourmand-esque feel with amber and a faint powderyness and camphoric feel presented by said geranium. Interesting.

Anywho

Tocade is all vanilla, Amber, rose, violet and musky innocence to me. It is strong, mind you, my little sample spray bottle gives off a good squirt and that one spray has oomph and lasts all day. After a good while it settles, though, and lingers yummily for the rest of the day - no evolution here, what I smell in the morning I still smell in the evening. Tocade to me is not mysterious or sexy, but a really sweet and friendly number that could be worn by a young women and by the more mature amongst us. I seem to crave it more with everyday. There is something truly comforting and enveloping about this scent and I think it could become my everyday signature scent. Absolutely gorgeous!

Annabear

This comes on as a mysterious lady...fresh floral, green and musky with great silage, and it lasts for ages.
It's quite old fashioned in terms of being a classic, not a dated product. There's something very compelling and "come hither" about it. Sexy and unique.

mapache

First of all....that bottle ! Different, iconic,yet cheesey...lol.
It opens with florals for me....magnolia/freesia/lily of the valley and the bergamot adds "sparkle". The enters in the rose/patch/amber vibe..with the geranium coming to play.To my nose, vanilla is almost secondary..being used to anchor the other notes. Then underneath we have some iris/orchid floating in and out..but good ole spicy-ish geranium slows them down. Musk is present with the cedar also. Oriental...yes...as it develops further.
I do get a slight herbal/bitter feel...unless that is because I have a vintage bottle....???...As far as the "green" notes...to my nose I am not feeling the green...per se...I am getting herby. Ir is a different, fascinating scent...IMHO,does not smell like everything else out there. Glad I have the chance to experience it.
I am curious about the NEW version, maybe someday soon.

Роза и ваниль

Tocade she is one of my 'teen' perfume from 1990s. I like the rose in this perfume is a beautiful rose with citrus and green leaves also with many flowers of iris jasmine magnolia. This smell like a green garden. Also patchouli smell herbal. The best part is when is dry and I smell vanilla some musk and wood but is a gorgeous crème de vanille. Deep and very rich smell expensive and perfect for summer because she is fresh floral and also in the end smell like good powder. Tocade smell like the perfume by Elizabeth Taylor call Black Pearls I like it too both are strong perfume. My husband love this perfume on me and I was wearing it when he met me for first time. So beautiful!

LuluSaintly

My favourite rose fragrance, which seems to go with everything, and every season. As mentioned below, I didn't like this fragrance at all when I first tried it, but I searched out a vintage 50ml and that turned out to be fantastic, a lovely rich but light rose with a drydown out of heaven.

Earlier review
This review is for a mini of what I assume is a current formulation (2017). Smells like cheap rose soap, with a nasty sharp, green edge. I'm quite close to calling this a scrubber. I will look out for a vintage version, as I think something has gone horribly wrong with this fragrance.

Germanblonde

I want to cry loud and long. She is so beautiful, vanilla with more freshness than I am used to with my other vanilla based juices. Oh, so, so wonderful. I really want to cry loud and long, but not of joy! She is so illusive. Hardly any silage or projection. Staying power is merely half an hour on me, if I am lucky and spray the hell out of her. WHY OH WHY doesn't this beauty last longer on me? For some reason I do not have the skin for her to linger on. Or maybe my nose is rather nose blind to her, because even if I spray her on my hair or clothes she just doesn't want to stay. But how can I be nose blind to her, when I actually detect her outstanding beauty with the initial spray? She reminds me of Traubenzucker candy (grape sugar candy you can get in German pharmacies) with a hint of vanilla. She is gorgeous, but fleeting like a light summer breeze. Why do I still love her? Because she is so gorgeous that I cannot help myself but to give my heart to her - with a teary eye. She is like a lover that brings you joy for a short moment, but leaves you too soon to go on his merry way. Why won't you stay just a little bit longer?

My friend who is a great perfumista has a small bottle of old tocade and she loves it.we were talking about classic perfumes and that I can't like them.I know they are famous and real art but I can't use them myself even one time.my friend said that I'm wrong and gave me one spray of tocade on my hand.I was ready to say:you see it really smells old.but it was not.it smells delicious and if I didn't know I couldn't guess it's a classic. It's sweet and creamy.but not like candy.it's creamy vanilla and lovely flowers.smells very modern for me.it's warm and sexy also comfortable.not very dry or very powdery and it's so beautiful I want to smell it all the time.very good longevity and sillage.I love it

SXangai

Absolutely loved this fragrance. It was my signature scent for a while. Made me feel glorious whist wearing it. A great buy - sexy and sophisticated at the same time.

Inhershoes

Sun-warmed Turkish delight. Creamy vanilla. Completely divine.

paneradfisk

I have the vintage EDT. This is dry, powdery, earthy and balsamic.Together with some kind of aldehydes give this a very inky, vintage feel to it, also with a prominent lemony rosy soapy geranium and iris. I would liken the sourness as well as the powdery balsam to tobacco.

Unfortunately, this turns really sour and string on my own skin, but I really cheris this bottle for sentimental reasons, as the perfume was released one year before my birth. It evokes some blurry yet powerful memories and emotions, and smells very nostalgic to me, the same way Kenzo Jungle Elephant and Gucci Rush does. I would say Alchimie or Lou Lou (both quite similar to eachother) are your choices if you don't like the aldehydes in this. They share the same balsamic powdery base.

I read "Perfumes: The Guide", by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez this week. Bought a supposedly used hardback copy on eBay Uk for £2.80 (free P&P). I find myself strongly disagreeing with LT on his assessments of Flowerbomb, JPG Classique (although I have Intense, not the original) - both of which I like - and Dior Addict EDP (which I love). I cannot tolerate Mitsouko, despite feeling that I really should, given its reputation.

Anyhow, I blind bought 100mls Tocade on the strength of Luca Turin's rapturous review (and the other numerous positive ones here). The version I bought was packaged in a completely red box; the bottle looks the same as the one pictured above - and the ghastly cap has been deposited in the bin (honestly, this may be the most inappropriate bottle top of any I have seen). I haven't any other samples I can compare it to unfortunately, as I think this would be an interesting exercise. I am disabled and getting to shops is not easy for me, so finding Fragrantica with its predominantly objective reviews by ordinary people has resulted in an orgy of blind-buying perfumes.

My first reaction on spraying was: "WOW, this is strong!" - not a bad thing as I favour perfumes I can smell easily. What's the point of wearing something so light that I can't enjoy it?

However, the initial blast wears off within five minutes, leaving a delightful sophisticated powdery, creamy rose scent, underpinned by a non-sweet vanilla and spices from the cedar and amber. I have no idea on the longevity yet - I'll have a good sniff when I wake up in the morning and will update properly then.

This does not smell "modern" to me at all - this is not intended as a criticism of modern fragrances - this smells timeless.

Gorgeous, gorgeous perfume, which is going to be a "love" vote.

Update: Tocade is still smelling delightful six hours after spraying on skin - although my feeling is that the sillage is now pretty much soft, rather than moderate. I can smell it more easily on clothing, though. It doesn't seem to have evolved any more overnight. To me at least, it remains the glorious creamy rose scent I smelled last night - and I am very happy with that.

This was a very good blind buy for me. Thank you, Fragranticans (and Mr Turin, of course).

UPDATE: Tocade can still be smelled on my pyjama top 36 hours after the initial spray. Longevity on clothing is outstanding.

Soofiya

I've not tested newer version of rochas tocade so I can't compare it with my vintage edt
The vintage one,is sweet, warm, powdery, a tad spicy and strong, definitely a classic, but an adorable one..also a wearable one,but only if you can get along with strong scents
Dominant notes are vanilla, amber, rose and lots of powdery iris and orchid..
It opens with lots of alcohol and sharpness,so don't smell it for two minutes after initial spray, after two minutes alcohol fades and all sharpness is rounded with a warm, sweet rosey vanilla, some soft powder blended with a spicy amber,It's elegant, feminine, sensual, lovely, delicious, sophisticated, delightful ..deep and sexy
Longevity and sillage are both great, don't overspray because it can ruin all it's beauty
One of my favorites for ever
This is a masterpiece

I picked Tocade as my first "real" perfume after discovering the existence of this complex world. It was written of on the perfume website Bois de Jasmin, and out of nostalgia for the scent of my grandmother's rose-themed cloakroom I ignored my lack of general enjoyment of rose-scented things and went for three 3ml sample vials.

I really, really tried to convince myself that I liked it. And I think that in some way I do, but quite swiftly after trying it on for the first time I started to feel a bit sick. To me it smells like a packet of Parma Violet sweets and some rose-flavoured, thick, jammy Turkish Delight rolled together.

I want to like it, but I can't seem to make myself cope with violet. And yet there is no violet in Tocade! (But there is iris; and Paul Smith Men EDT, also with iris, makes me feel a teeny bit similiar on the blotter.) I want to understand and enjoy this lighthearted, playful, happy lady of a perfume, but I still feel a bit queasy sniffing at it on myself now.

I think a couple of other people have mentioned getting a violet sweets vibe from Tocade, yet others found a sophisticated rose. Which made me ponder whether it's all to do with chemicals. So I got my Mum to wear it, and lo! Smelling it on her when she walks past doesn't make me feel sick, neither does it bring Parma Violets to mind for me.. but she doesn't seem to pick up Parma Violets from it at any time.

Ah Tocade, there was that one day when I felt you and I had reached a happier understanding, but it looks like reaching that place again would require an unknown amount of aggressive perfume-wearing and queasiness. I'm not convinced I will ever really get there and stay long enough to make the trip worthwhile.

(Maybe it would be different if I had a spray bottle?)

UPDATED: No, it's not chemistry; the scent ofTocade on the sample vial also has the violet present. :( Such a shame, and yet I didn't seem to get that on my mum?

UPDATED EVEN LATER (04/09/16): Okay, I take back everything about not liking this.. it still has this weird 'queasy' note, but I LIKE it. O_O To my nose Alien Essence Absolue has the same kind of feel, and I'm actually drawn to it.

I was pretty sick recently and Tocade was the only thing I could bear to wear. Everything else felt uncomfortable, but Tocade was light and easy on the nose. I don't seem to be noticing the violet smell so much now, either. I've got 2 and a third sample vials left; who knows, I might end up buying a full bottle after these. The journey goes on.

Oriane

The perfume of my early childhood. Women around me were wearing this gem back in the middle and late nineties.

I associate it with "Allure" by Chanel, except that it's more gourmand and less fruity. It smells like baby powder with a note of liquory flowers. I'm not always fond of strong vanilla perfumes, but this one is perfect as such. The sillage is reminiscent of almond cakes. "Tocade" demonstrates with grace that a perfume can be simple, linear, yet beautiful and unique. Very surprisingly, it is versatile in its way, marrying other fragrances easily, fitting any situation in life.

georgequeue

This fragrance reminds me of an ex-girlfriend I had eight years ago; she would bathe in this perfume, which smells really good and never offensive, but it doesn't seem to be very long-lasting as she would reapply it a few hours later. In my opinion, Tocade can be a little bit on the unisex side.

Great scents trigger really fond memories. Very good fragrance.

auroramaria

Beautiful combination of vanilla and roses. Vanilla here is just amazing done just right sweet and creamy the whole composition has a gourmand feel while remaining very elegant this is a scent you cannot miss if you love vanilla also it can be purchased at a very good price

bonnie52

I couldn't wait to get this in the mail as it was a blind buy based on reviews. What I got is nothing like is described here. It is pungent and sharp. So sad...

Sanskilainen

I just added Tocade to my collection and after a week of wearing just Tocade I feel that rest of the bottles may go. Normally I wear different fume every day but now my fingers grab the same bottle over and over again. The cosy vanilla rose combo actually reminds me of Amouage Epic, although Epic with time becomes more rose while Tocade moves towards smoky, not so sweet vanilla tune. Just precious and super cheap which makes it a must in every perfume lovers collection. And really, Tocade imo is not that sweet. It has a gourmand aura, but on me it moves towards a dry, smooth direction. And unlike many others, I love the bottle. I am in love with the 80's style kitchy Memphis style flacon. I am tired of somber squares in Scandinavian coolness and unnecessary decorations a la many houses. Tocade is unique, both as a bottle and as a scent.

LuScentinTenebris

Rose shortbread cookies and a faint whiff of vanilla pipe tobacco. Upon application, it does smell like straight-up plastic for about three minutes, but don't panic- from there it moves through a short cocoa-buttery window, finally settling at rosy-vanilla cake with a slightly green, slightly soapy freshness for the next...oh, until you shower, and even then it will hug your clothes and sheets for another day or two. I find this better when the weather is a little warmer.

Oh, and how could I not mention the bottle? Missing perfume caps are an undesirable occurrence, but in this case I immediately removed that ludicrously terrible plastic, pointy, toy-like cap and dropped it in a junk drawer to languish.

This is a review for the vintage 1994 eau de toilette with cognac color liquid and cone shaped stopper. My Russian girl friend Marina love this perfume and she reviewed it on her Youtube Channel (in Russian). It caught my attention and I bought the EDT from ebay. This has been reformulated and comes in a honeyed-yellowish color but don't bother with that one. The EDT is as strong and perfumy as the original ea de parfum. This is a beautiful floral fragrance. Opens up with bergamot, green notes and geranium. The bergamot is fresh and very strong, plus the aldehydes are there (though not listed). The flowers in this fragrance: magnolia, my Russian friend's favorite flower, jasmine, orchid, iris, rose and lily of the valley. These flowers are pretty strong and appear to be vying for your attention. The result is intoxicating, a symphony of flowers. Love the orchid and the magnolia combination. Rose is sweet and just there but not a big player. Jasmine, same thing. Lily of the valley has a rather metallic or plastic scent which I didn't like but no big deal. The amber and vanilla help with the clean dry down. I didn't feel this was very woodsy at the end at all even tough it has cedar. Patchouli is there but this is one of those well made patchoulis. This is a 90's floral scent so if you're familiar with them you know they are strong and heady. It's lush and luxurious. Very feminine. Couldn't see a guy wearing this but of course he's free to do it. This fragrance reminds me of Black Pearls by Elizabeth Taylor, and my friend Marina agrees, as it has something about it that feels a bit Oriental, flowery and the peach in Black Pearls is the bergamot in Tocade. Tocade means whim and this fragrance is whimsical, a lot of different scents waft and pop up from time to time during the 9 plus hours this wears on your skin. At times I got magnolia, iris, jasmine, orchid and rose. What a beautiful beautiful fragrance. And they don't make them like this anymore. I only know one woman that wears this but I know why she does. It's divine. I am so happy I bought this. I will wear it in the summer and spring.

Ever woman is a flower and her perfume is her fragrance.

Another reviewer said this reminded them of L'Instant. I never thought to make the connection but it makes sense. L'instant is a bit more cold and distant by comparison though. The other perfume that popped into my mind was Boucheron's sadly discontinued Trouble. But Trouble is a very sensual perfume, whereas Tocade is still sexy but more importantly, it's a happy fragrance. Warm, deep, smooth and comforting, as most predominantly ambery perfumes, but also bubbly and bright.

It feels very much like it's from a different era, when perfumery was bold and not afraid to make a woman smell powerful nor too worried about smelling too clean. Maybe this is the 90s take on the philosophy behind Chanel n. 5. A velvety smooth ambery floral powerhouse that makes you smell like "a woman", minus the whole Bank of England, tweed suits and pearl necklaces vibe you might associate with the Chanel. The Tocade woman is from an era when its less about seeming too polished and more about being yourself and knowing how to let loose and have fun.

It's sweet like some delicious dessert. Maybe a Turkish delight? But Roucel crafted this powdery rose and vanilla fragrance with just the right sweetness. Certainly cheap now, but great. I have not tried the newer versions of Tocade in its new bottles or any other concentration besides the EDT.

Beware, it tends to stir infatuation from others.

Ok, so I was innately compelled to write another review on this precious. I am addicted like I have not been addicted since I went all crazy over Addict. Wow, seriously, this number is playing tricks on my mind because I can't have this on my dresser drawers, I have to have this near me next to my computer for a spritz every now and then, in the bathroom for after my showers and by my bedside for a healthy spritz before bed. I want the reformulated version as well bc Ive heard good things which doesn't happen very often with the reformulated versions so I must try! I find this scent extremely soft, sweet, the rose/vanilla combo gives this an extremely comforting vibe because Im all about comfort and I can't seem to want to be away from this for more than about 4 hours. On me it stays close to the skin and lingers on clothing. A gorgeous scent I have to give this house a humungous thumbs up for this beautiful concoction! I truly love my Tocade more and more each day. Ive been wearing it everyday which is very unlike me, I always spritz according to moods. Love this :)

JMSG

Rose and vanilla in lovely proportion, straightforward and fairly linear. Because your nose gets used to the sameness of the scent over time, you stop smelling it after a while; then all of a sudden you move your arm, or a breeze blows by, and you're just delighted with yourself all over again.

Tom McGuane: "I like young girls. Their stories are shorter." Tocade is a beautiful young girl with a low voice telling her short story over and over. And everyone wants to lean in and listen.

energia

I've bought a pre-reformulated version, the liquid is a little dark yellow and it's quite strong. I've put three smaller spritzes on me and it is not overpowering, I'm quite enjoying. Actually, I immediately started thinking about buying a backup bottle. The vanilla - rose combination is unusual for me and I'm not clear whether I like it or not. Mostly, I get vanilla which is not candy vanilla, but more burnt, smokey vanilla. Other than that, I sense some powdery notes - I'm guessing it's iris. Anyway, it's fun to explore new things :)

Museumgal

Sophisticated, rich floral Vanilla scent with a beautiful strong Amber note. The Vanilla is not too sweet or cloying. Beautiful! Great for day to night wear.

This review is for the original 1990's vintage formula in the gold and red box.
If any one of you have had the chance to get your hands on the now discontinued and very rare Christian Lacroix Tumult, then Tocade is very similar.
Beautiful, powdery, vanilla infused, rose heavy, beauty.
This perfume reeks of the 90's, the big notes and powdery drydown of the Cacharel Lou Lou era.
The longevity is impressive as I spritzed 8 hours ago and it's still sending lovely powdery wafts of loveliness under my nose.
I absolutely adore this perfume and I'm now on the look out for a vintage back up bottle. Highly recommended if you can get it. I haven't smelled the reformulation so I can't compare, but I'll try to get a sample and do a comparison review. In my opinion, many of the reformulations are pretty good apart from longevity. There are very few that I have tried that don't match up to the originals.

Angeldaisy

arrrgghhh. i have changed my mind about this one.
i keep trying this over and over.
there's something alluring (and annoying - as it was not an instant love, far from one - but it is growing on me and the massive bottle keeps calling me to have another spray!)...maybe it's the powder and rose. i even got the geranium for the first time yesterday (5th time trying it). And a slightly synthetic whiff of something.
the next day...yes...flowers. magnolia and jasmine too! i finally am getting the flowers. my nose must have off days.
it isn't just vanilla powder puff turkish delight after all. it is a complex and beguiling little number. there is warmth and a little spice too. it balances and it works.
my bottle came in the apparently new box (could be the reformulated one you are all talking about?)...but this is pretty powerful on me, longevity and sillage-wise! my little one could smell it downstairs, after one spray upstairs.

i take back everything i said about sweet vanilla and milky bars.
it's just that i am realising that amber tends to dry down amazingly sweet on my skin...and takes on a slight milk pudding sweetness.

be patient with this one. it is very unusual!...but it is fresh, (yes, powder puff), feminine, delicate and warm. i am so glad i didn't sell it!

note to self - "write a review after trying it more than once."

Lilah Veil

Being the vanilla freak I am, I had to have this. Unlike so many others who think the bottle is cute and whimsical, I hate it. I am guessing the bottle suggests a fashionista wearing a red hat but have no clue. I don't get it, but that has nothing to do with the juice inside except causing me to procrastinate buying it. Now that I have smelled it the bottle seems more unfitting than ever.

I see many name this as strong. Hmm.. Also being a great lover of whopping sweet, spicy heavy hitters, at first spritz I found Tocade rather meh; weak and soft but sensed potential. My first try reminded me of my beloved Chopard Casmir; a deep, dark, buttered rummy vanilla, sinfully sweet, and I made the mistake of comparing the two using both wrists. It made me not like Tocade in comparison, but I knew there was something I loved about this stuff in the silly, tacky-wacky bottle so washed CC off to fairly judge it only for what it is; uniquely on its own merit.

For me, that turns out to be a mild to mid strength ambery vanilla cream bomb exploded with love onto a fresh rose, then sprinkled with a bit of silver screen non-musty glam boudoir powder. At first, off-putting synthetic, but give it only a few to warm to the skin and Tocade becomes a real Boozy Floozy!
("Well hello Ma'am." "That's MISSez to you, Dahling. Come to me.")

A rather gentle, classy, classically simple but spell-binding scent, Tocade is the one who looks like the innocent goody two-shoes wallflower who is (maybe?) anything BUT.. and that factor is precisely the mysterious 'it' in this masterpiece that makes me love this fragrance. I cannot think of a wrong time to wear Tocade. Ever. My CC will kill in the heat so this is My New Summer Vanilla Love, though longevity is minimal on my skin.

I can detect no other notes than what I stated - a very vanilla rose with a hint of powder. She is at once sweet, simple, elegant, refined, exquisite, a prom queen, a true queen, conservative Sunday school teacher, a bride, a gypsy, a starlet, a hippy, anything she wants to be... with the potential to tear your clothes off and tie you to the bedposts. Miz Van Rose Tocade is a girl/woman to be wary of.

I think I get the bottle now. Appearances can be very deceiving. ;)
Rochas Rules.

Fragrantlife

I dismissed it at first as an average rose- vanilla non description thingy. How wrong of me!

This is an olfactory masterpiece.

I would like to describe it, but I can't. It is so well blended that all the notes are melded together to create a new reality... It does smell a bit like a soufflé of Turkish delight ... a soufflé because it is not a sticky, stomach turning combination of rose, almond and sugar... It is a mere suggestion of it. And I discovered that I love it!

I most definitely intend to buy more of the pre-2013 version before it becomes completely unavailable.

glitteralex

Can anyone describe the bottle color difference to me? I have two 100ml bottles:

#1 I know is at least 4 years old has juice the color of white zinfandel, and sports a red neck, a pale blue head, and an aquamarine colored hat. It starts out with some bug spray, then becomes the Tocade I know, then fades to a thinner, less round version than I remember. To note, this bottle may be affected by age.

#2 The other 100ml bottle I have has a golden colored juice, a blue neck, pale yellow head, and red hat....just like the fragrantica photo. It came with no box, and smells amazing.

Update: 2 hours in, bottle #1 is a weak, soft, sweet rose and bottle #2 is the Rose Vanilla bomb I love.

Thank you!

micklynl

I completely agree with Alayna1011 - what is being sold as Tocade currently is so far from the original Tocade that the mind boggles to think it is being sold with the same name. I have a bottle with the red, blue & yellow lid and the juice is pure loveliness - Turkish Delight & vanilla in the best possible way - I love it! My bottle is running low so I went to see about getting some more and saw the new bottle. I tested it and was horrified - it smells to me exactly like the original Panache by Lentheric. (Which is very nice, if you like that kind of thing, but not for me.) It is nothing at all like my bottle of Tocade. I am very sad to not be able to replace my bottle and will treasure the last little bit I have. I have ordered Aramis Calligraphy Rose to see if that will help fill the void... Waiting for it to arrive. :)

jds3

I love Rochas - Mystery, Madam Rochas, Femme,Absolu, but Tocade - not my thing. Just bought and tried - far to heavy, smell like baby pother. Very disappointing.

shushkin

I love this and cant get over how similar it is Guerlain L'instant my number one favourite. The difference though is on the dry down which is somewhat chemically or plastic. It only lasts a couple of hours on my skin and moderate sillage.

Planet_X

Its easy to love Tocade, just as the whole old Rochas House
top notes: bright smile, cheeky eyes, freckled nose
in heart: generous hand, big kind hug, plentiful of kisses
base: all previous things and smell of the sunshine
Sweet vanillic bubbling geranium shadowed by ambery iris with rose which as result gave most interesting effect of neither of those mentioned.

lirael00

My favourite vanilla perfume. It's a happy scent. It's sweet but not too sweet. I think it's appropriate for all ages. It's sophisticated and playful at the same time. It definitely brings me joy whenever I'm wearing it. The drydown is the best part of Tocade experience. Thhe longevity is awesome too. I couldn't ask for more.

Alayna1011

Please do not judge poor Tocade on the reformulated version (comes in a red box without the gold symbol on the front, juice also a much lighter yellow color and not deep brown.) I'm not sure when it was reformulated, I expect probably around the time the IFRA cracked down (2010? 2012?) on certain ingredients. Anyway, get yourself a vintage bottle (but be cautious, TWO sellers on ebay responded to my message with "yes this is the one with the gold symbol on the front" and I received the reformulated all red box.)

Anyway, the vintage is GORGEOUS. The opening is harsh, a little reminiscent of bug spray, but don't judge it on that. Wait 5 minutes before sniffing. I remember when I first smelled the opening I was like "oh god, I've made (another) mistake" but it became wonderful a few minutes in.

The smell is deceptively simple. The best word I can come up to describe this fragrance is "electrifying." It is an electrified rose. When you turn your arm one way, it is rose.. but turn it another way, it is vanilla. Almost like a smoky vanilla cookiel kind, if that's possible. And then the rose and vanilla combine to create the most heavenly scent-- it is literally like a rose on fire with vanilla. Or vanilla shocked thru with rose, whichever you prefer. It is rich, sexy, and just luxurious.

Brilliant. I see why Luca Turin gave this 5 stars and for once I totally agree with him.

RozaMoisevna

Oh my goodness! I can't recall the last time I was blown away by a perfume so much as I did when tried Tocade. The only thing I find a bit odd is how the appearance of a bottle (the old one) and the PR does not correspond to its essence. Instead of an optimistic and cheerful I see it as the ultimate perfume of seduction and class. The last accent to put on when trying to leave an impression on a man who's already madly in love with you...A very memorable perfume by all means, nothing boring or plain. The newest version of 2013 is very similar to Halle Berry Halle, which was one of the perfumes I got the most compliments for.

Julia1506

Gorgeous rich scent for the grown up girl. Charming floral bouquet accompanied by delicious vanilla. The longevity is enormous, I can't believe the EDT lasts all day long! A single spritz on your wrist will be enough to wrap you with delightful aroma. But… The magic will start after some time, not immediately with the application. At the very beginning the scent is heavy, bold and even annoying. It will not be appropriate for the small close rooms. The scent needs a plenty of time to develop on the skin. But it worth waiting. Just let it breath for an hour and enjoy this masterpiece.

nitschevo

The perfect sexy vanilla - it's ambery, rosy, vanilla without the foody character thats often incoprorated in more current fragrances. Very sophisticated and sexy but at the same time fun. Give it a moment to develop and sink into your skin and then - adore the magic! Tocade is like a veil that floats around you. So happy that I scored a bottle of the original formulation on ebay.

naturasi

this perfume was a surprise for me...a good one...but i rather find it a chypre floral than oriental...in the dry down is very similar with Bottega Veneta edp only a bit weaker...it also reminds me Deci Dela Nina Ricci which is also a chypre...good longevity and sillage...i give it a 9/10

Scentmad

Gorgeous, glorious, luxurious and magical. This perfume seems to have recently been redesigned (not sure if the juice has but the bottle has certainly changed). I have the taller bottle with the long neck and I absolutely love this perfume.

My mum wore it and now when I wear it I am reminded of her. It's sweet but not cloying, rich but not overwhelming, perfectly balanced and utterly mouth-wateringly delicious. An incredibly alluring vanilla/amber perfume that smells like a fattening, calorie loaded sinful dessert. It's just scrumptious.

oldnose

Some days it is hard to decide which fragrance I want to wear because I love so many. I wore this to work today and three people said "My God you smell good, what are you wearing!" It lasts forever without being overpowering, perfect for day or night.

vos

My grandmother wears lots of different scents and at one time she had a bottle of tocade. in my memory it came across as very sweet. Now i can fully apreciate the warm ambery rose that comes through. I own both a vintage bottle and some more recent miniatures. The new stuf has lighter color juce and smells more synthetic.

Forbiddenjade

I did write a review on Tocade a while ago now.
There I explained that this scent seem to develop best on slightly alkaline PH. So if your skin has a regular 5.5 PH you can rest assured that its full charm will never unleash on it. I found in years of wearing perfumes that sillage in particular is affected by the PH and the reaction the fragrance has to it.
I hope this might help you in making a decision, together with my advice: buy samples.

2746cstreet

Tocade is a pretty unique scent. It's a thick, but soapy vanilla with green notes and rose. Nose to wrist there's also a smoky scent at the base. The amber & patchouli, maybe.
I get a slight "plastic doll" note here, which I personally like.
Overall I really enjoy the powdery, yet creamy effect this vanilla has versus the loud, screechy vanilla extract of newer vanillas/gourmands. It's perhaps a more "serious" vanilla than most.

naen

Amazing. Soul catching. Hunting, seductive scent. Something i wasn't expecting, beyond beautiful. And the way it changes according to my mood, amazing... Too valuable for my psyche to just reach for it every day. My new strange looking lover.

priscillaemrich

I bought this mainly because of Lucas Turin's review in the Guide. I really liked the initial scent. The longevity was amazing, that was part of the problem. The base is a very sweet vanilla, with no rose left. I smelled vanilla the rest of the night.

happycapybara

Why on earth is this perfume so cheap? It is gorgeous and so expensive smelling. Roses and vanilla and love mixed together. It is comforting and elegant. It is happy and uplifting. It is enveloping and forms a little cloud of loveliness around me when I wear it. Timeless and ageless, Tocade is for everyone. Wonderful sillage and equally impressive longevity. Although not overpowering, it is a scent that is noticed and remarked upon because it is distinct. The bottle is whimsical and bright. Another interesting dimension that is Tocade.

valbona.bergman

it is a balmy sweet scent,i detect a medicinal sweetness but it is tamed from this "milky" aroma that covers it very nicely like a blanket,it is playfully sweet, very colorful and as blacktaffeta said veeery succeffully, cheap vanilla ice cream..just pure joy <3 lovely

small update: tried it again today and i got a feeling i was sitting near a fireplace with a glass of wine, relaxing, lathered in vanilla cream and the heat made it's sugars melt mixing with the alcoholic smell of the wine...ooh so great!

ps. i just bought a 100ml bottle and it is so lovely...and very addictive just love love love it

nikoleta1

Light sweet floral, preasent, lasting, reminds me a Jimmy Choo, unexpensive, but smells much better than many niches, they are probably in a niche for a reason))))

blacktaffeta

Ice cream, is what Tocade evokes for me. Cheap vanilla ice cream, bought in a cone from a van on a hot summer's day in my childhood.

And needless to say, that's a very charming image and makes me happy.

Tocade is loud, frivolous, obvious, and cheerful. I find it's impossible to be in a bad mood with this sprayed on my arms. Jolly wafts of jasmine, magnolia and of course vanilla keep me smiling.

I should probably mention that I'm approaching this from the point of view of a vintage chypre fan. For me, Tocade seems quite sweet, yet I will freely admit that it is much less sugary than many current mainstream fragrances, and much less obvious too. There is a progression as the notes unfold, and there is complexity. The ingredients seem good-quality and not especially synthetic.

And sniffing my arm again, I'm suddenly put in mind of Shalimar. Is there a little smokiness in there?

So. To sum up, Tocade is bright, cheery and enoyable, yet has some intriguing qualities that keep me thinking. Brilliant!

Vanessa Dunlap

I took one look at the bottle and had to have it! Hey, for $30, why not? I had read a rave review from Luca Turin about this little beauty and was curious, so I ordered one and wore it yesterday. I am pleased with my purchase. Here's what it did for me: Tocade gave me the floral notes, with just a hint of the vanilla, and there was a wee touch of something citrusy, like an orange blossom kind of citrusy (probably the lily of the valley note). It was light, but did not disappear. No one around me complained, but then again, no one around me seemed to really notice I was wearing anything; they had to stand very close to me in order to smell the Tocade. This will be a perfect spring/summer go-to fragrance. For $30, this is a very well made fragrance, by a well respected perfume house, and this bottle is a work of art! The bottle is something I might find on Judy Jetson's vanity. A light, giggly, fizzy little thing. Adorable!

Elmyra

Id pair this up with the deodorant by Yardley ESP stayfast.

I wonder...should i buy this? 100ml? Its hard to find, and in entire suburb only 1 place sells it.
Works out to $ 47,74 as per todays currency. R495 SA rands.

Elmyra

I really like the smell of this fragrance. Unfortunately they only sell huge 100 ml bottles, although well priced, otherwise id buy a 30 ml...i have too many frags and cant handle a 100 ml right now. Im scared frags get old, their life is around 1-2 yrs i believe.
Anyhow, enough on that, back to the frag.

Strange but this reminds me of the Balkan airways hostesses, years ago, i am sure they were wearing this!

Also smells to me a little like lipstick. Like some of those beautifully scented luxurious lipsticks by Givenchy, or Lancome...

Beautiful fragrance, very soft, smells like - a woman relaxing in a jacuzzi filled with red flower petals of all sorts, sprinkled with sugar.
Stunning!

SmellieKat

Tocade is Too Much most days - super sweet and just...giggly. My husband happens to love this perfume, but for me, I must be in the right mood, which happens rarely. Tocade is a perfume that panders to all that is sweet, slutty and apologetic for being slutty. Don't get me wrong - I love Maurice Roucel and think he has created many brilliant perfumes. However, Tocade just doesn't feel like me, or anyone I know, really. As a work of perfume art, it is unique, but will I wear it? Um...no.

kyl77

I'm not sure if I have an old bottle, a reformulated bottle, or if it's just my body chemistry, but the Tocade I have on doesn't have any of the monster sillage or lastng power others have described. Rather, I find Tocade to be a lovely little rose and vanilla number that sits close to the skin. This lasts about four hours on me. Polite and sweet, this would make a great office scent.

jht4060

Rochas Tocade is a sweet rich ambery vanilla, with a touch of rosy floral saving it from being too bland, and a touch of musk in the base. Comforting, warm, and inexpensive. I don't get the wow from it that many people do, but it sure smells great, the price can't be beat, and even the silly bottle is rather cute. Tocade is translated in many ways to English, but my favorite is "caprice". The breezy sundress-on-a-windy-day connotation, not the aggravating the-rules-just-changed connotation. Like the bottle - caprice, whimsy, eccentricity.

stephanieklein

You can find this perfume in Marshall's for next to nothing, FYI. $14.99 for the big size.

SillySue

Been dying to try this one for a while now and finally got a chance to do so today. The verdict: Meh..just another version of Chopards Cashmere really. And that one is not in my good graces either. I will be passing on this one. Next please!

stormyla

Knowing that this is a favorite of Luca Turin's and having read the reviews here, I decided to seek out a sampling of the vintage Tocade EDT. It's a cute quirkly little bottle. My first perfume loves were in the mid 60's,an era with many famous fragrances of the powdery variety. They usually have sophisticated refined sensibilties and I often enjoy wearing them, if only to reminisce about those days.

That being said, never before Tocade have I encountered a fragrance that virtually suffocates one with powder. Puff puff dab dab blot blot all around me with a giant furry powder puff resembling one of those old pink fuzzy slippers. I sneeze, sneeze, cough, cough, wave arms all around my head and wait for the powder to dissipate. I wait and wait and wait. It never dissipates, but it stops choking me.

Powdery vanilla is what comes next and sadly, nothing else. Others say that Tocade reminds them of Organza Indecence. That beautiful scent has a huge cinnamon note as well as woody and fruity undertones. Tocade as I perceive it is just a dull powdery vanilla. Sillage was OK, but the longevity was surprisingly short, about 4 hours.

Fragrance preferences are so subjective, It's really hard to predict how one will perceive a fragrance even with the best of reviews. So,all of you Tocade lovers, enjoy this fragrance and feel confident that I will not be bidding against you for a bottle of the vintage juice!!

bluebellinthewoods

Let it be noted I am a vanilla rose freak. Ok it's subjective in every sense but if heaven existed it would smell of this.

seventh

Tocade doesnt project much of a sillage and has moderate longevity. Apparently has been reformulated as many other gems, but i kind of still like it even though i wish it lasts longer. However men seems to like it, because its very subtle and comforting. I wouldnt find it loud or offensi e and i would recomend it for daytime too as well as in warmer weather. The bottle is quite arty too and very 90s. However i wish i had the chance to try the first born Tocade.

Talia

Reading all the reviews for this famous perfume I imagined it fatal, oriental and dark sweet, but for me it is quite daytime and optimistic and ok for the summer in a reasonable quantity. Maybe I met it somewhere in the past. It somehow provokes nostalgia for the teen years, full of expectations. Very charming and promising one, remarkable longevity indeed.

redsuedekitten

A gorgeous, burnt-vanilla rose fragrance with an undercurrent of marzipan-like heliotropin. Suited to lovers of both gourmand and classic floral perfumes; this one straddles both genres beautifully and its notes are well-balanced. Quite linear in its development. Great for everyday wear and long-lasting for an eau de toilette.

Vanille Bourbon

The colors of the perfume bottle remind me Disney Snow White so much! ;D

Kiku

Not for the timid! Tocade is womanly, tempestous, and uncompromising. It is for the woman who looks life in the eye and never backs down. Such strength is unusual for a perfume whose dominant note is lily of the valley. Drydown is spicy and powdery. Tocade is reminiscent of Tabu but without Tabu's overwhelming quality. I know many people love Tabu but can't tolerate the sheer force of it. If you are one of them, try Tocade. You will probably love it.

Joeysgirl

Tocade of the 90's - delightful
My first & favourite perfume ever

Tocade Reformulated - eeeek
I bought it recently & gave it away

Thanks for the memories Xx

The photos and packaging say it all. It is a delightful young, pretty rose and vanilla combination with a comforting powderiness. Its young but with an 80's vibe. It doesn't seem like an old perfume though. I'd represent it with a pretty young French girl a flirty red backless dress dancing around your bedroom, as light as a feather. I wear this when I need cheering up.

minalistic

First impression is heavy oriental, but it's more of a good groumand consisted of buttery cookie-like vanilla.
I just LOVE it ! This is abslutely one of my best fragrances ever.

This is one of the first perfumes people have ever recommended me to try since I adore roses and vanilla. I finally came around to trying it, and wow, I really like this! It’s so adorably ditzy and playful.

When I first spray some on my wrist, I get a good dose of rose, iris, and sweet vanilla. It doesn’t smell like real roses; it smells quite artificial because there’s a strange plastic smell to it. The plastic smell fades, thankfully, and there’s something that smells similar to raspberries even though there are no berry or fruity notes in this. It smells like fizzy raspberry cola—whenever I spray Rochas Tocade on, I always get thirsty for a raspberry/cherry slushie if that makes any sense. When the rose fades, it becomes mostly vanilla in the drydown. I would say vanilla is the strongest note.

This fragrance reminds me of my childhood and smells playful and flirtatious rather than sensuous and sexy. The vanilla and amber make it warmer, but I would still not consider this sophisticated or chic. It just brings a big smile to my face when I spray it on. It lasts for many hours and has quite noticeable sillage.

The bottle is so awkward and weird that it is endearing. There’s something so incredibly 90s about the bottle’s bright colors and odd shape. Even the advertisement pictures scream cheesy 90s that I half expect the cast of 90210 or Party of Five to come walking out--I love it. But I’ve heard that this is being discontinued? I certainly hope not, but I think I’ll need to stock up just in case! 5/5

Based on the notes and the reviews, I was prepared to be in love with Tocade. At the mall, the salesman spritzed a bit on my arm and I wandered away to shop for an hour while it developed. Silly me, even though I could barely smell it (the mall is full of olfactory distractions!), I bought a full bottle anyway based on the light floral scent I got.

When I applied this perfume in good earnest, I was actually a bit let down. My husband’s comment (through a sinus infection): “you smell like paint thinner and roses”. And now, I can’t get that reaction out of my head! It does smell a bit like diesel fuel or paint thinner, or some other heavy duty chemical—combined with roses. After that, it morphs into a pleasant enough lily-rose floral and then gets a tiny bit spicy. After about an hour, it is a very light, powdery floral with a hint of spice—it reminded me quite a bit of Ellen by Ellen Tracy. The dry down is strictly vanilla, and the kind of sickly sweet vanilla I don’t care for. The vanilla dry down was similar to what I experienced with Yves Rocher’s Vanille Noire and also with Prince Machiabelli’s Sexiest Musk—to me, it just smells like cheap vanilla. In a way, it starts like Burberry Woman, but then where Burberry goes toward musky-fruity-skin scent, Tocade evolves as a floral-sugary-vanilla.

I’m disappointed, as I expected something unique and fun. Longevity seems to be at least 4 hours, and projection is at least arms length.

fazli ikram

i managed to buy it...i find the smell is unique and intoxicating..i love it though..quite surprise the remarks by others on it..the one that i bought have gold tocade wording on it... i am not sure whether it is reformulated or not but..it smells great....

A decade ago a friend of mine came to my place holding a bottle of it.
She loved it and generously sprayed it all over herself; then her boyfriend came round to pick her up... istantly commenting on what horrible perfume she was wearing.
Disappointed, she gave me the bottle.
A few days later I tried it on. The couple came round to pick me up to go clubbing with a bunch of other friends ... and her boyfriend made a comment on what a beautiful fragrance I was wearing, adding it was mesmerizing.
Goes without saying that my friend was very annoyed.

We went clubbing then and at the entrance everyone - and I mean it! - commented on what a fantastic perfume I was wearing, asking what it was.

This little story is to say that Tocade works for those like me who have slightly acidic or alkaline PH.
The skin PH is in fact what brings out the best in perfume, being that every essence react to different chemistry.
Would be great if every fragrance lover could discover about his/her own one. It'll help them choosing the right fragrance between the fancied ones!

So don't forget: acidic or alkaline for this eclectic, enchanting, exotic lover!

Esscentially299

This was a blind buy based on Luca Turin's review. The bottle I bought came in the all red box.

First impression: strong, warm, rose and vanilla, a little plasticky wierd note...which isn't altogether unappealing: saves it from being too sweet.

Given a little time, it mellows into a warm, powdery,
vanillic fragrance that has excellent staying power but doesn't seem aggressive or overwhelming. ( one small spray at the throat, and a dab behind each ear)

It develops nicely: I love the faded scent on clothing. All things considered, I'd buy it again. Not bad at all.

As for the silly bottle...it's a joke. Like Carmen Miranda's hat. Makes me smile.

joliecat

Review is for Tocade reformulated version in the all red box.

This could very easily be a unisex fragrance. Bergamot (citrus), and Cedar remain strong throughout, becoming wrapped in very lightly powdered soft, unobtrusive florals that are sweet but not too sweet. Tocade settles within 10 minutes, and wears very close to skin. Likeable and easily worn in an office as it is not offensively strong.
Refreshing crisp opening, softening to a mix of cedar, amber & lightly powdered vanilla. Long lasting dry down of smoky woody vanilla. Lasts about 4 to 6 hours, becoming a very close-to-skin scent within the first hour.
Tocade is pleasant, well blended, and a good bargain that doesn't smell cheap. Interesting fragrance for all people of all ages.

Heliotropea

I've no idea what the original Tocade smelled like as I have the reformulated one. I can only say that, imo , it would be difficult to top the one I have. At first sniff it's a bit overpowering but right after this gives way to the most delicious, soft, powdery scent imaginable and it lasts for hours and hours. Absolutely lovely, if you like vanilla (but not the baking cookie type) and powder, lots of it ... yummy.

cecfor

Another one that I had in the nineties and now rebought. I loved it then. Was I going to love it now? Well , when I opened the box a big smile came over my face. Mmmm. I still love it. Soft powdery vanilla. I love it in spite of the magnolia and amber which I am doubtful about now and then. It is a tiny bit odd and that only makes it more interesting to me. The bottle looks like a clown. That makes me smile too.

Edit
There is a note here in the base that reminds me of jimmy choo (which I soo strongly dislike, one of my worst actually). I guess it's patchouli. It's very evident in tocade when smelled from my clothes but not so evident on my skin. I like it in tocade and dislike it in jimmy choo. The world of perfume is full of surprises.

itokatly

Really good perfume! its interesting though... i got it around 6 months ago to add up to my collection! 1st spray put me off completely - was too strong, too powdery, too sweet... i just put it back on the shelve
6 months past, summer came and i decided to give it another chance and oh la la! it went fantastic with my skin this time, lasted literally all day! dry down was very soft, makes you want it smell again and again! very feminine and sexy!

oncidium

Rosey vanilla that turns to marshmallows by the end of the day on me, great staying power without being overwhelming. Soft, comforting and powdery. The bottle is alittle more subtle than the picture here.

jadetrail51

This was an interesting blind purchase. Probably wouldn't have bought it, had not Luca Turin rated it 5 stars, and it was worth the risk as it doesn't break the bank. On it's own, it is a nice creamy vanilla rose with decent silage.
However.....The first time I spritzed this on me, I happened to about 4 hrs. into Cartier's Basier Vole I want to tell you that these two together are magical. Actually brought tears to my eyes. This has happened only once with L'heure Bleue. You really have to wear the Cartier fragrance a while before you apply Tocade. Try it you won't believe your nose.

Endymion

@ichellimay
Procter&Gamble may have reformulated and dillutaded it again...
As they have slaugthered all the magical Rochas fragrances :(

piscianna34

This among my favorite perfumes. Lalique le Parfum is very similar to Tocade

KateAnette

I never really got what "powdery" meant in a perfume, other than there was some kind of softness to it. When i first tried Tocade... wow, there's powder! And lots of it! I felt like i put on some high class talcum powder. I felt like coughing, not because it bothered my throat, but in the way a lady clears her throat to get attention. At first the powder bothered me, because i never felt anything like that in a perfume. The more i'm getting used to it, the less it bothers me. It gives the perfume a very soft feeling. All i get from Tocade is vanilla and powder. The vanilla is a ladylike one. There's some sweetness to it as well, but just a hint. The more i wear it, the more i like it, but you have to really love vanilla to enjoy this one. I sprayed it on last night, and i still could clearly smell it in the morning, over 12 hours later. Not much sillage with one spray though, stays quite close to the skin. I don't really like linear fragrances, but in this case it's a good thing. What you spray on, is what you get 12 hours later, the powder just slowly wears off. I don't get anything artificial in this fragrance, very natural smelling. This Rochas is very affordable too. I have the one in an all red box, with brownish liquid. Thumbs up :)

LaUna

Semi-complex strong vanilla amber floral. Lots of patchouli and geranium as well. It softens and warms up over several minutes of wear and dries down to amber-vanilla with soft powdery undertones. Something syntheticy about this one.
Can be worn by young and mature as long as you prefer powerful fumes. 5-6 hours.

Pierina

Absolute love at first sniff! this is nineties nightclubs in a bottle!
Rose/sandalwood and sweet vanilla.
Lasted all day!
smells like a soft woolen cardigan.
ZOMG! gawjus!
Thank the gods it lasted most of the day because that bottle is a total clunker =)

Mooniq

Light and airy Vanilla-wonderful-scent. Soft and mild yet intensive in a good way. Fresh and timeless, this one is made for both younger and middleaged women. 1 spray makes it to a great every-day-scent, 3-4 spray bring this to a heavy and sexy partyscent. No sharp or edgy notes. You have to be a vanilla-fan to love Tocade. Tocade is a parfum that smells good for many, many hours, on my skin about 7-8 hours.

scentous

This one is really a unique, lovely, heavenly, creamy precious gem, timeless as well..i dont get the fresh opening, i directly fall into warm creamy vanilla, not cloying at all, not overpowering, hint of muskiness at the background which gives it a class, longevity is marvellous..

The_Entity

Soon as I tested this one, I had to buy it, even though I had to go shorton money for the week....my kind of fragrance, a sweet, warm vanillary. The kind of frags you either love or hate. Reminds me of a stronger, warmer Narcisse by Chloe

eilismaireg

I recently re bought the version in the all - red bottle, I don't think the juice is any different, still a wonderful sweet vanillic rose/geranium which does start off with a little 'hairspray' note (Iris again?) which takes a bit of getting used to. Wafts of this will follow you around for the rest of the day and as you sit down, you just smell sweet and edible like shortbread. I like it because it's a scent with a journey, that has unexpected moments.

Sizzler

Thank you lily13ana for pointing out the reformulation and difference in boxes! I see what you are saying about the all red boxes. I am retrying this morning and still having a hard time with Tocade, but it is so much fun actually having a bottle and giving it a try. I love to hear all of the different opinions and thoughts. Now I need to figure out if the problem is my neophyte nose or a changed fragrance, either way I appreciate the feedback!

Edit: I'm enjoying more when sprayed on clothing.

lily13ana

I think my bottle is the reformulated, because i read that someone bought an old bottle and that one it has the box identical with what is on fragrantica picture(with yellow design), but mine, and i believe many others boxes are coloured in red, without the yellow design. And i also believe that all these red boxes have bottles with brown liquid. Anyway, this perfume has a beautiful and feminine drydown.

Sizzler

The relationship between the virtual world and the physical world is so fascinating to me, especially regarding my obsession with fragrance. I have been courting Tocade on-line for about 6 months and finally brought this fragrance into my life, in the form of a Valentine's Day gift from my boyfriend.

Completely untested, going on reviews and 5 star ratings, I received the package today. The price was right, the box is a bit beat up, the juice is brown, not golden (lily13ana mentions this same symptom).

Some reviewers have discussed an opening with green and magnolia notes - I wish I was getting that! I am so disappointed, all I get is sweet powder, I am still experiencing the top notes, but so far it is my first official headache in a bottle (Akio I'm hearing you). So Powdery with little else in the opening, makes me think this bottle is old and the fragrance has changed. My sister has an old bottle of Beautiful that has sour notes that have gone off but then changes to the original fragrance.

This is my first experience, so possibly with time, this scent will become a favorite. I do wonder about the age of the bottle in relation to the quality of the perfume. Of course, I did buy a discontinued fragrance.

artsyrn

I can't stop smelling this! So soft and feminine. This is creamy, sensual.just heavenly! Good sillage and staying power to boot.

neferteria

Living at quite a distance from a good perfume counter, I often buy scents blind without a trial, but relying on reviews on sites such as this one as well as the A-Z Guide. Such was the case with Tocade. I always have a bit of anxiety as well as expectant anticipation whenever I make that first spray of an untested scent. At the first spray I thought that I had surely made a mistake, but Tocade quickly settled into something quite wonderful. Above all, this is a very womanly fragrance to me, a woman in all her various roles throughout the day. It is warm, comforting, but also intruiging and a bit sassy. It is a quite enveloping scent on me with some sweet aspects, but not a bit loud or cloying. And its complexity keeps it interesting. This will probably be one of my favorites and at an amazing price!

Annelien1987

Heaven. I'm suprised everytime I wear it. Pure heaven.

lily13ana

Yesterday when i received this i tested it and first thing that crossed my mind was to sell it.But after 30 min i couldn't believe how wonderful it smells. It is the most feminine smell i have ever felt. The weird thing is that the liquid is brown and in the pictures was yellow. Is my bottle spoiled or waht?

Edit 12.02: I have also Casmir and they share some similarity, but while Tocade is light, Casmir is very dense and heavy compared to Tocade.

Juma

Hi!
OMG, I can't stop sniffing myself, how wonderful scent is this. Today I've received it by swap and Citronella has found to Tocade a loving home and I hope she will enjoy my decants as I at Tocade.
Lovely soft vanilla, as in Kenzo 5:40 at Madagascar, surounded with warm rose, which is not girly nore dusty.
I detect fresia, patchouli (yes, I am patch. lover) and a lot of musk. I would categorize it as soft, happy oriental.
With one word, to me it's divine.
Tiny, tiny shadow of Mystere de Rochas in Tocade, IMO, which is another gem of this house.
One of the few I own a back-up bottle.

Annica

...and 10 points out of 10 goes to...EK! Well written!

EK

You don't recommend it to UGLY women?????????? Huh? That's even worse than the age discriminating reviews we see all the time.

Sharty

In 1995 (I was 15 years old) a French teacher wore this perfume. I recognized it, because I had a tester three years earlier... At that age the perfume was way too mature on me, and I didn't like it on me as well as on the teacher. French class was early in the morning and it was such a heavy warm woody vanilla smell that nobodies brain could coop with it.
The teacher however was a very pretty sensual woman in comparison to other teachers and in the afternoon the perfume was a bit better.
Two years ago I received another sample. Still looked the same. And I thought: Oh no, don't like this one...
Opened the tiny bottle and sniffed it. French teacher memory was back, but this time it was age appropriate.
To my surprise when I put it on, the scent really pulls out the femininity and sensuality to the surface. However, I don't recommend this perfume to ugly/non-sexy (sorry) women. It would be a mismatch, it would be too much of a perfume.

Tovah

I love Tocade. I have no past associated with it. In fact, I smelled it for the first time when I bought a bottle of it about 10 years ago, for $10.00 at TJMaxx. I fell head-over-heels for it, and I could not believe my luck! I'd worn (out) Tresor throughout most of the '90's, and my first reaction to Tocade was that it made me think of Tresor (original 1990 version)blended with Shalimar. I am a huge fan of the works of Maurice Roucel, and, for me, his signature touch projects from Tocade. Ages before I had access to the names of perfumers, I searched for a certain "something" in my perfumes (for past examples: Krizia K, 24 Faubourg, Musc Ravageur)that I now know is my olfactive response to Roucel's creations. Many have an accord of haunting, deep vanilla that, to my nose, is the essence of feminity in a very womanly way. I've been gifted with bottles of Tocade that are either complete, utter fakes, or long past their prime, and they have a musty quality. The "real" (original) Tocade, which I wound up purchasing a few times before it disappeared from department store shelves, is intoxicating, mysterious, and rich like a liqueur. As a perfume bottle collector, I adore Serge Mansau's playful design.

stephan

Amour Kenzo is similar to this one, but not as complex.
The top notes are not lovely, but the drydown is perfect.

cristina.rizzi

~This is one of a kind scent.
A good friend of mine bought it years ago and her boyfriend hated it, so she gave it to me.
I wore and the very same guy fell in love with it... she couldn't believe it.
It does change a lot on people, but every time I wore it I got men and women asking me over and over again what it was.
Love it!

geekgoddess

Tocade is my favorite vanilla scent after Habanita. Everything about Tocade suggests (to me anyway) loud music, fruity cocktails, and a good time. Still, it somehow manages not to be trashy.
Even though it is from the nineties, it doesn't seem outdated. Don't be fooled by the hideous bottle.

ingrideco

It smells a bit artificial.
Pure vanilla

edpjunkie

Ahhh, once again LT is right on the money. I bought this unsniffed and was put off by it at first. It took me a whole year of wearing it on my hand during the day to fully appreciate it.(I find that doing this gives my nose the space it needs to develop a relationship with a fragrance.lol) Well, now, I love it! Give these scents a try, and one day ,like a song that has always played unnoticed in the background, you'll have the moment of Eureka! And say, “I know this song and I like it!"

The Swedish girl

Once again I`m disappoinetd with a blind buy!
Will I ever learn...

The notes sounded oh so right, I mean what can go wrong with vanilla, amber and roses?

Everything apparently.

It smells just like Chopard Casmir, which I hate.
The same plastic smell. But Tocade have this sour and unclean smell to it also, which I guess is the patchouli and some of the flowers?

Why is it so damn hard to find nice vanilla scents?!

Dj_play_manson

A great scent!!

Mellyhelly

I had a bottle of Tocade years ago and I liked it very much, because the scent is very warm, deep rose but quite a lively one and tons of vanilla without ANY edible candyfloss. It smelled like a mature vanilla and flowers. Nice and not too expensive and also very longlasting on my skin.
Many said it is an intriguing fragrance and I totally agree. You may like it or not according to you tastes, but you cannot avoid noticing the mastery behind.
I still feel attracted by scents that are complex and well nuanced like perfumes before 2000, something that keeps you involved because they smell a little different every moment along their evolution and not like solid bricks with synthetic patchouli and stiff lily with sugar like many modern fragrances.
I liked Tocade then, I would probably appreciate it more now as a good work of perfumery, because it was kind of old school fragrance. I think it would smell outdated and weird to many young noses, but it will always be a wellmade fragrance even now compared to hyped scents.
I cannot find it now where I live. It's not a total love that I would track down around the world, but if I happen to find a discounted bottle in a store maybe I would buy it.

cinsot

The jury is still out on this one.

A discordant mustiness lurks in Tocade. Citrus mould?

An otherwise pleasant vanilla scent mixed with a well-meaning bouquet dominated by sweet rose.

On the upside the vessel housing Tocade makes me smile. I liken it to Mr Squiggle's rocket ship.

Comical bottle aside, Tocade presents a challenge. I am curious to see whether I can learn to appreciate it as the sex-bomb it's rumoured to be.

Time will tell.

boruvka44

Nice sweet, dry, a little bit plastic vanilla-cocoa-rose aromatherapy for home wearing. It would deserve EDP version for better lasting power. After couple hours it turns to Vanilla Fields...
The cap is comic.

Annelien1987

YIPPIEEE!! Finally got it. I went to the perfume store to get Shalimar Initial, but then, in the corner of my eye I saw this, the only bottle they had in the whole store. I asked the lady if I could smell Tocade. She gave an explanation of this being discontinued but then on the market again because people wanted it back. I gave it a sniff.. HEAVEN! Just my kind of smell, warm, heavy, sweet vanilla, heavenly rose and lots of other flowers. They only had the large bottle 100ml, normally I never buy large bottles but I bought it and I'm so glad. The bottle is hidious/ugly... but that doesn't matter!

logicmuppet

My sister gave me this for my birthday last week, and I've been wallowing in it since. When I spray this on, people wandering in ask, "Wow, what smells so pretty?" It makes me want to curl my hair, put on makeup and flirt outrageously with my boyfriend. I can smell vanilla, roses and amber mostly, but taken together, I really have no idea what notes are driving this scent.

Don't let the first spray put you off. The chemicals burn off pretty fast and just leave the sweet, sexy scent. This is what I'd hoped perfumes like "Fantasy" would be!

jtd

Rose and vanilla together. A classic combo. So how on earth does it come to smell like sweet newspaper and acetone? And who would have thought that would be comfort food for the nose? I adore this.

lhollingdrake

Hideous stupid packaging, silly bottle, fabulous fragrance. It makes me happy. It actually has an effect on my mood.

Maeculpa, I agree, one cannot count on Luca Turin alone. Following his advice I blind-bought Arpege. MY review of which is so scathing that Fragrantica has refused to publish it twice. I'll leave it at that or risk erasure...

candymarie

For me, it dries down quickly into a rose-vanilla-amber blend that is cool, not warm, and stays that way. I prefer warm, spicy, woody orientals and I'm not enamored of dominant rose notes (which Tocade has) so I am not the audience for this one. I think maybe because I'm used to having my vanilla and amber paired with spices and woods, the rose-vanilla-amber combination in Tocade just doesn't feel harmonious to me.

Kittycat63

Tocade to me is kind of what I expected it to be from the reviews on here. It definitely smells retro to me and sweet but not in the overpowering, slightly sickly way that a lot of more current perfumes are. It smells sweet in a refined and mature way. It smelled a little heavy to me to start out with but, like quite a lot of perfumes, smelled much better once it 'mellowed out' on my skin and got softer. I've only worn a tiny spritz of it on my skin so far so I haven't been able to decipher many of the notes in it yet except for the slightly floral, vanilla'y sweetness. So, I might get back to this review and add more later! I do notice though that it contains magnolia, which I really like, so hopefully I'll be able to detect that more once my nose gets used to the smell of Tocade! Oh, also I have to say that I agree with what several reviewers here have said about the Tocade bottle - it is quite garish!! Well, actually, the bottle itself isn't but the cap really is. I wonder who thought up the idea for such a tacky, cheapo looking cap for what is actually a nice, refined, classy perfume??!

Also, I just read Maeculpa's comment where she says "..I always try a perfume out by wearing it to bed and Tocade gave me nightmares. I woke up twice thinking "something is terribly wrong" and it took me a moment to realise that it was the fumes of tocade choking me! Sweeet and kind of alcoholic at the same time." God, that made me laugh so much!!! I agree that Tocade might be a bit overpowering in some ways at first, certainly compared to light perfumes, aquatics, etc, but I'm not sure it's so heavy that it would cause most people nightmares when they're asleep and a sensation of being choked! Maybe it will for some people though - who knows??! The only perfume that I can recall so far producing negative results after I made the mistake of spritzing some on right before I went to bed was Provocative Woman, and I woke up the following morning with a pounding headache! I actually really like it though when I wear it in the daytime but clearly it was a bad idea to put some on right before bed! So, maybe Tocade and Provocative Woman are just some of the perfumes that are best left for daytime use and not for putting on right before going to bed!

olga1780

Tocade is a great oriental vanilla with a gourmand edge to it. It is definitely sweet and warm, but an intense rose note keeps it from being foody or edible and more on the elegant side. It has great sillage, but pretty inoffensive at the same time and easily can be worn during daytime. Its comforting warmth puts a smile on my face every time. The lasting power is above average, just like pretty much anything from Rochas.
The bottle is actually much prettier in person than I expected.

A great daytime winter choice for oriental vanilla lovers!

maeculpa

Normally really cloying perfumes don't bother me so much. I made a mistake with Tocade. I couldn't figure out if I liked it or not, and when a cheap bottle presented itself I naively put my trust in Luca Turin's rave review and got it. I always try a perfume out by wearing it to bed and Tocade gave me nightmares. I woke up twice thinking "something is terribly wrong" and it took me a moment to realise that it was the fumes of tocade choking me! Sweeet and kind of alcoholic at the same time. Thankfully a colleague loves this so I gave it away to her but it is a lesson to me: try before you buy and Luca's approval does not make it a great idea to blind buy (Joy makes me gag too, so it is all a question of taste...)

MizLiz

The bottle is silly. The fragrance is a charmingly simple vanilla-rose-amber. I find it very easy to wear, and it lasts a good long time. Tocade is versatile, and can serve as a comfort scent or a date night scent. Best of all, my bottle cost $14.99 US at TJMaxx! Pretty, comfortable, appealing, and long-lasting, all in one silly bottle! I love a good bargain.

mirisaba

Very unique perfume. Couldn`t stop sniffing my wrist when I first smelled it.
An oriental, sweet perfume with a cool note that makes it quite extraordinary. Does anybody else notice that "chilly" note? Very inventive.

julia hird

i think it smells like ''cookies''

Doc Elly

This EdT is a sweet and powdery floriental scent with a warm vanilla base. It’s slightly floral, but not too much so, with a citrusy, orchid-like rose and what I perceive as ripe plum notes. But mostly it’s an ambery vanilla, the sort of scent that envelops you in a warm blanket and almost hugs you to death.

If this is an EdT, it is amazingly strong and tenacious, and I shudder to think what a stronger concentration would be like. In moderation, Toccade is a lovely, warm scent that is more gourmand-oriental than floral. I like it, and would not hesitate to haul out my sample occasionally and wear it.

jacaranda_la

This makes me think of straight up rose flavoured marshmallows. The vanilla happening in this one is a sugary one- not a lot of depth or thickness to the vanilla, but it's alright. The rose is wet and lush, and the overall effect is a strange hybrid where neither overpowers the other.

Hideous bottle, I'm afraid.

Annica

I think that this is a love-hate perfume. I have a huge bottle and don´t know if I want to swap or sell it. For some strange reason I go back and test, test and test again. Do I like it? Honestly, I don´t know. There is definitely something that appeals to me, but also something that repels me. I feel all fragrance notes, very messy. Can´t identify each note. It's annoying.
Why I bought a big bottle? I wish I could answer.LOL
Update: Swapping it was the right thing to do. Now it has found a better home.

Action

Lovers of Tocade, try Marella Ferrera Ambre Ze!
À wonderful sister!

suile

Of all the, well, it must be hundreds, of fragrances I have owned, this would be the one that has been complimented on by the most people. There is something both comforting and yet different enough about it, the vanilla floral mix plus that bit extra.
