"Oregon Art Beat" takes a look at "The Art of Grimm" Thursday, spotlighting professionals who create the look of the show. Among those who talk about their work are graphic designer Carly Sertic, who drew the illustrations featured in the "Grimm" book of lore, photographed here during a visit to the set in Northwest Portland.

It takes a small army of people to make an episode of "Grimm," the NBC series that is set and films in Portland. Now in its fourth season, the series -- as loyal viewers know -- is about Portland Police homicide detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli.)

As a Grimm -- one in a long line of gifted profilers able to see the supernatural creatures that exist beneath the surface of seemingly ordinary humans -- Nick has his hands full solving crimes, and tracking down troublemaking Wesen.

This Thursday's "Oregon Art Beat" goes behind the scenes to spotlight the professionals who help create the world of "Grimm." We meet members of the crew who fashion the look of the show: sets, props, makeup effects, photography, and more.

Among them are Carly Sertic, the Eugene native whose graphic designs include drawing the various Wesen recorded in the big book of "Grimm" lore passed on to Nick from his late, lamented Aunt Marie. "Grimm" fans will feel a particular pang watching the scenes of Sertic's handiwork, given the dreadful event that befell Aunt Marie's trailer in last Friday's episode.

"The Art of Grimm" airs on "Oregon Art Beat" at 8 p.m. Thursday, on OPB (10.)
