Encre Noire Pour Elle by Lalique is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women. Encre Noire Pour Elle was launched in 2009. The nose behind this fragrance is Christine Nagel. Top notes are Ambrette (Musk Mallow), Freesia and Bergamot; middle notes are Rose, Osmanthus and Kephalis; base notes are Musk, Vetiver and Virginia Cedar.

Encre Noire is a masculine, mysterious black crystal block presented by the house of Lalique in 2006. Its unique but memorable design attracts attention with its dark, woody stopper, which is inspired by black ink and dedicated to intelligent man of today's time.

We can expect the feminine version in September 2009. It was tailored after the edition for men, which was dedicated to contemporary philosophers Encre Noire Pour Elle also arrives in a black flacon with elegant inscriptions Encre Noir Lalique on one side and Pour Elle on the other side of the mystical cube. Special limited flacon is made of crystal, with golden engravings and a top which fits the edition perfectly. Its outer carton is luxurious and composed of painted precious wood.

Creator of this edition is Christine Nagel, who presents scents of vetiver forest, shrubs and greenery surrounded with carefully chosen floral essences in this perfume. The fragrance opens with fresh citruses ruled by Sicilian bergamot combined with ambrette from Indonesia, while cold notes of freesia are an overture to a floral heart of this composition. A heart is dominated by Turkish rose, which is sweet and thick. It is accompanied by Chinese osmanthus, which leaves honey and sweet, fruity aromas, along with Kephalis molecule of the house of Givaudan, which leaves opulent, warm, amber and tobacco-like aromas. A base introduces Haitian vetiver, cedar from Texas and magical trace of musk. The fragrance is characterized as sophisticate, warm and sensual.

Encre Noire Pour Elle will be available as 50ml edp for about 79 euro and100ml edp for 109 euro, as well as perfume extract in a crystal flacon – luxurious and limited one, made of black crystal, available in amount of 30 ml, for 849 euro.

For me this is a heavy, old rich lady type of smell. It lingers a bit too long and dominates the room too much. I gave it several tries, but I just couldn't get around it. So it ended up unwearable for me and a bit headache-inducing. I also lacked a sense of identity in this scent, so it felt very generic and not at all as unique as so many other Lalique perfumes.

viktorijavla

It's fascinating how we each perceive specific scents and notes differently, when it comes to perfumes.

For me, this fragrance smells extremely clean. It carries a fresh, slightly soapy, musky, and clean rose scent. Just a few days ago, I tested Narciso Rodriguez For Her, and it immediately brought to mind Encre Noir Pour Elle. While they're not exact dupes, they share a similar musk note.

This fragrance is very elegant and mysterious, reminiscent of a put-together and sophisticated woman. Beautiful.

toosimilar

giuseppe98gp83 is totally right about similarities with NR for her, but , honestly, NR is a cheapie and quite brutal compared to the gorgeous Encre Noire Pour Elle! I would never substitute the latter with NR. For me Encre Noire Pour Elle is a scent of chic and pure feminity, i just adore it!

LinnieR

This was a blind buy for me. A bit disappointed it’s not similar to Encre Noir for men. It’s nice but I hoped it would be more unisex and a “cold” and dark type of rose. Think roses in the garden on a chilly morning, with dew still on the petals. I usually don’t layer perfumes but I tried it together with Perles De Lalique and it adds that vetiver, earthy scent mixed with rose which I was craving. It’s also great layered with patchouli

swedishmilk15

Sad that this doesn't seem related to the Encre Noir for men. I would've liked to see that vetiver and cypress interpreted for women.

RottigrlNYC

I have a brand new in box plastic wrapped for sale if anyone wants it. Pm me . I blind bought two by mistake. I gave one to mom. This is not for me . I like my fragrances to scream “here I am” . I want strong and loud. This is not it .

LittleYsatis

Sophisticated strong rose with dirty mask. Poor projection and longevity. I have a few Lalique fragrances, but this one is my least favorite.

chimidoro

Admittedly regretting giving away my bottle....
A cool, crisp, dry rose. Like the reflection of a deep red rose in Indian ink.

la_chat25

i bought for her and him because of the brand, i like choosing a brand which not many people know here, although the bottle was extremely heavy but it was not a regret, the smell was soooo addicted, fresh, ozonic, and expensive, it made me wanted to sniff more and more and it also made my outfit smell fresh, although it's been years but i still can smell the fragrance from the bottle. and my boyfriend was also love the encre noir for him, that made it his signature accord.
so sad this kinda gem is discontinued, and i wear Lacoste pour femme for the substitute since for me it is the closest smell i get to lalique

mapache

Finally was able to get this at a decent price. My Encre Noir collection is now complete (men's & women's).
This scent is kinda typical. Ambrette/rosy/musk/floral.....with under lying bright woods vibes. I think the freesia note kinda does not work for me...seems to take it to too much of a true floral/fruity for me. I was expecting a deeper scent...(?).
It is an easy going, uncomplicated perfume. Nothing remarkable....sadly.
In the dry down....i just get "freesia fruity"....soapy.

mellyv1973

A lovely, musky rose with a woody base. I think this smells of high quality ingredients that would be worn by a woman living an upper class lifestyle. I just get "rich lady" vibes with this. Very pleasant and sophisticated. An underrated gem.

vallena

Rosy, musky but soft, soapy clean. Excellent. Its a pitty that such gem is discontinued.

Fragaddict123

Floral dominant fragrance that it might even be too much for ladies to wear longevity is good
Not for men

PlanetGrl

Darkly warm and sexy but pricey. I got a sample to try for a few days, even though my boyfriend loved it I only liked it, just not well enough to buy a bottle.

diego.lesgart

@MsLittlejohn... can it be universal or unisex????

ScentBee

Pure addiction! I can’t stop sniffing my wrist. It’s a soapy dark rose with the wood base. I was so lucky to get a 50ml bottle before it disappeared from the market.

MsLittlejohn

Oooo! I just love it. It's to my nose that perfect, soapy, sooo clean, expensive smelling rosey, musky CLEAN! What the 'Clean' line aspires to be. I feel it wafting all around me and I only sprayed once on my wrist and rubbed together with the other wrist. That was two hours ago?! This is not dated, it is not synthetic smelling. It's just the bomb. Perfect for after-showers in the evening or early morning and anytime you just want to smell straight up GOOD! 😊 ❤️ Highly recommend, for Ladies or Gentlemen.

Tzarina

This stunning chypre can only be described as bottled regality. For all our notions of antiquity when it comes to chypre fragrances, this had proven us entirely wrong, possibly with the blend of ambrette and musk. Lalique naturally delivers when it comes to packaging, and the shower gel was also a decadent treat, although it would've been nice to have experienced the body lotion or body cream.

Yet another triumph that was stupidly discontinued. You can only locate it in a few niche pharmacies in the Mediterranean, and I'm sure their stock will soon run out. Its masculine counterparts, although not unpleasant, in no way match this perfume's majesty.

If you can't get hold of this beauty or if you're looking for a boozier version, I recommend Vengeance Extreme by Juliette Has a Gun.

Jola 72

It is sadly discontinued . It is hard to believe that . BEAUTY .
Yes , it is not modern , it is from another century and just not to stay here in this crazy world , to beautyful ...
My single 50 ml.bottle is soon empty , let's share a tear ...

giuseppe98gp83

Dark:
This fragrance is the female counterpart of the Encre Noire masterpiece. Mystical. It takes you to places that are hidden in the farthest meanders of your imagination.
Strong:
Strong as a warrior, like Artemis, the goddess of hunting but in this fragrance I want to remember her as the goddess of female initiations.
Different:
Without any doubt this fragrance is different. Different from all those that arrive today on the market and even from those who were the great vintage. This Lalique paves the way for another kind of perfumery masterpiece.
Sweet:
There are queens that create terror but there are others that reign with sweetness just like the rose in this perfume but it is not over: The beautiful and delicious ambrette or musky mauve makes that sweet not heavy and very sensual, from the first night of the wedding.
Wild:
It certainly is not suitable for common personalities. There are perfumes that indicate delicacy and if with those we are in a flowery meadow here we are in a dark wood where the only light is dictated by the splendor of a beautiful but deadly lady.
Forget the virile and powerful man of lyrics and songs. Here is the woman to give judgment. It is the woman who makes herself wish like never before. We are not on a bed of flowers, we are on a bed inside an ice castle where the man is to venerate his queen, his muse, his goddess. And at night ... I leave the conclusions to you.
10 with honors.
Similarity: Narciso Rodríguez for her Eau De parfum (same nose).

BEST REVIEW EVER! Hands Down!
*Actually makes me want buy this.

Spicey Pickled Ginger

Before I begin, please let me state for the record that I love LALIQUE, and enjoy having their scents in my possession.

The booziest rose I've ever encountered. It will claw its way from the bottle, dripping merlot all over your floor, pick up the nearest blunt object and beat you over the head with it. It will then proceed to touch all of your possessions - TWICE - before anyone discovers your remains.

The only thing she has in common with her big brother, Encre Noire, is the shape and colour of her bottle.

Save yourself, run.

Cauda Pavonis

A pretty, cool rose. I have to admit I was a bit taken aback at first because I thought I'd gotten the men's version (of which I've heard excellent things) and couldn't understand what I was smelling. That being said, after my initial disappointment I found this to be a cool, musky woody floral. At bit sweet at first then dries down to soapy, green fragrance. Pleasant, elegant, a little old fashioned; not like the retro aldehyde bombs like No. 5 but of an even older era. This could easily be a niche fragrance - excellent value for the money. Long dresses, parasols, and rose scented face powder.

UnearthlyApothecary

Encre Noir Pour Elle is a very soapy rose. It actually smells like these little rose scented, rose shaped soaps my mom kept in the bathroom when I was a kid. A kind of nostalgic scent. This (as many others have stated) doesn’t really have much to do with the male version. To me, this a classic (classy) vamp perfume. Something old fashioned and kinda sultry. A great musky rose. If you have a ton of other rose perfumes or an aversion to soapy you might want to pass on this one. The silage is decent so far, will update on longevity later.
UPDATE: barely there after two hours :(

fyrewoman

ENPE does have a tobacco and cosmetic powder quality about it which should be right up my alley. The freesia and musk mallow prohibit me from being able to completely fall in love with this.

I have a hard time letting this one go because there are such wonderful qualities in the formula as well as this stunning and weighty bottle. I've given it a good try over a handful of times. All you need is a spray or two but into the swap/sell pile this goes for me.

It's like a much more complex and sophisticated Lacoste pour femme. Meaning if Lacoste pour femme is a love for you plus if you're into tobacco scents, then this would be a good candidate to sample.

Soofiya

I wasn't interested in this one as I hate male version and I usually like different type of fragrances(gourmands, oriental vanillas) but I think there's something changing in my preferences.after buying lady vengeance,I was craving another good rosey-musky scent. In my local perfume shop I saw a bottle of Lalique encre noir pour elle.it was only 25$ and as I believe in Lalique as a brand which produces good quality and very variable peefumes,I decided to buy it without test
Boy I louve this one!
I'm shocked to see lots of negative reviews
If you're expecting something in the veins of male version it will dissapoint you.if the term "noir" or the black bottle makes you to think this is going to be a heavy, dark or masculine scent,it will disappoint you
Actually I'm thinking that maybe it's a very chemistry dependant fragrance because I read in lots of reviews that they couldn't detect much florals.on my skin, rose shines like august sun.I don't see it as a dark or heavy rose, but it's not weak or watery either.it's a gorgeous rose.I'm not good at explaining different kinds of roses but I agree with one of reviews that it's a boozy rose.like a dark red rose dipped in red wine sweetened by honey.I find it impressive just as lady vengeance's rose.other florals are lighter than a whisper but I can smell a fruity thing in it probably coming from osmanthus
As time passes musk becomes stronger so drydown is a Musky rose layed on a woody base.it's musk is the type that I like.delicate, sweet, not very animalic, clean and a tad soapy.there's just a touch of vetiver in base that acts just like vetiver in Narciso.actually this perfume has some sort of Narciso Rodriguez-ish vibe and is exactly what I imagined Narciso edt to be.
in the late dry down,I mean what remains on skin after hours, isn't much rosey anymore and a is lot less sweet.I can mostly detect musk, vetiver,a little cedar and a light touch of mixed florals but if I have to name a flower,I'd choose freesia to rose.these unexpected charges don't ruin this absolutely beautiful perfume for me.they make it even more interesting and I do enjoy this musky woods and this comes from someone who usually avoids woody fragrances
Lalique encre noir pour elle has truly impressed me.I can't get enough of this musky rose with a light touch of woods, powder and soap.and I feel very joyful of exploring such an underrated gem.it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea but if you love musky rose scents or you're looking for a mature, elegant, sexy, soft and feminine rose fragrance or if you're a fan of Narciso edt, edp,Poudre or such perfumes you are very likely to love this one too.time will show how much I'm going to use it but for now I'm very satisfied and I love it just as much as my other two rosey loves.lady vengeance and byredo rose noir.my husband was mad at me because I had promised him to control myself and buy less perfumes.he was yelling at me that you promised not to buy perfume this week.he stoped talking to sniff air then said with a gentle voice:Mmmm...but this is gorgeous.maybe you were right to buy it.then continued yeah!it's gentle and charming.please wear it more
Sillage is more than moderate.good but not invasive.it's been seven hours and it's still pretty strong
It's bottle is simple but chic.although it's black it has a fine femininity that I believe goes well with the scent
❤❤❤❤❤

Vlud

This one is very different from the original Encre Noire for men, but it retains the inky aspect giving it a new nuance.

EN Pour Elle is very powdery, almost lipsticky and has a classy retro vibe. I picture a confident, chic woman wearing this.

Mari_on_net_te

Huge disappointment :(

I am a long time fan of Lalique's Perles, and having read many different reviews- and judging by the design of the bottle- I was expecting something as rich and dark as Dior's Poison.
Nothing of the sort.
It's just soap.
Overly sweet, suffocating, cloying smell of soap, clinging to your clothes and body.
Like having washed your clothes in a heavily perfumed gel and not rinsing it properly.
Really awful.
And that dark bottle promised so much...

Luckily I have but a small sample, and I will spend it on occasions like cleaning the house or sth like that, when I'm not planning to see anybody XD

karina281

Is it discontinued indeed??!
Lucky me, I bought a 100ml bottle at an extremely low price.
It's so beautiful soft and tender. Cedar and bergamot are so tangible even though they are not main notes here. I usually prefer more intense and even screechy fragrances but I also need to have something relaxing and intimate like this Ink)
I feel a cat woman when it's on me)) I truly love it!

dahlia

It is indeed discontinued, sadly. I love it - a powdery, but not heavy rose, wrapped in musk and amber - a creamy composition with a lovely retro vibe. Very beautiful fragrance.

stereoscopic

Has this one been discontinued? On the official Lalique webstore you cannot order anymore, most of the online fragrance stores do not have it in stock and the ones who do have it, already started to raise the price.

Hmmz ...

djuzz.becuzz

I could not resist any longer my curiosity about Lalique Encre Noire pour Elle and since my request for someone helping me out with a sample did not gain me anything I blind bought it anyway!
Been reading the reviews many times, over and over again, but they are so diverse that it was very hard trying to picture what it would smell like.
Anyway, received it yesterday and I like it!
Boo to all the negative reviews on this one and all the blah blah about it not being anything like Encre Noire male's version and the black bottle not fitting the fragrance as well as the description not fitting the fragrance.
I find the bottle to be utterly gorgeous and it fits the scent perfectly fine! The bottle looks elegant and so is the fragrance!
I was also not expecting/looking for a fragrance similar to the men's version as that is not my cup of tea at all. My fiance had it and we sold it.
What I was looking for: just a nice, clean, gentle rose fragrance...
This one does not disappoint.
The opening has a boozy vibe going, I detect the rose right away and the booziness makes the rose appear deep and dark. Really nice!
As it dries down the booziness fades away and a rather clean and very pleasant velvety, dewy rose shows up. I can see why some reviewers say it smells like Nivea cream. I somewhat agree, it does bring this to my mind as well.
Beside it smelling clean, it also smells sensual to me, there is a layer of warmth underneath the rose.
I am pleasantly surprised and do not regret my blind buy!

carpp79

It was a blind buy on web, arrived today and I liked it very much. Due to I have EN for men as well, I'll do the same epiphany Bluemarinejose did: wear them (for men and pour elle) together.

DutchBalLover

My absolute signature fragrance. Timeless masterpiece.

mrsg34

Nivea anyone? There is no way that this is modelled on the men's version which is fabulous. This smelt generic and boring like a musky body lotion, sorry to those who like it but I was expecting something as good as the men's.I wanted a dark, woody notes where was my vetiver? Sorry lalique this soapy, cloying offering is a fail for me.

Madalina Buleandra

I'm not a rose lover, but much to my surprise, I really enjoy this scent. The ambrette combined with the rose and the kephalis along with the cedar notes give a unique amber-woody compound.

It's smooth, powdery and rather sensual. The longevity is impressive and the bottle has a very nice design.

En Fragrance Delicto

I'm getting a nicer version of Nivea cream. That's all with this one. Shocking, but rather pleasant.

rossyegio5

phanhtofu

1. A very beautiful banquet of rose and osmanthus which portraits a delicate, feminine and charming lady. Don't be fooled by the name or the color of the bottle!
2. Stayed very close to my skin and last for hours and hours. It gets along very well with my body chemistry in Hanoi fall weather.
3. The bottle design is really nice. I want it very much!!!

volafox

It is either love or hate sometimes... but this one is by all means LOVE for me. I'm glad that it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.. the price is a plus for me as well! It lasts, it doesn't beat you over the head nor is it a shrinking violet. The soapiness that many refer to is actually preferable in the Texas heat, where too much musk will make one smell downright skanky.

Viola Rose

Wow! This fragrance is identical to Champs Élysées by Guerlain, beautiful yet affordable.

spinderella

I was very curious about this fragrance, because I love the bottle, and people mentioning the likeness to Narciso Rodriguez For Her. I got hold of a sample, and it is a very clean rose-scent to me. Not harsh or offensive, just sophisticated and clean. And it strongly reminded of an other perfume. And then it hit me, Paris, by YSL. Haven't smelled it for a long time, but somehow this perfume brings it to mind. I'll have to try it for a couple of days more to decide if it is worth owning a full bottle. But who knows.

hnica

Now Encre Noire Pour Elle really makes me mad. Why? Because they should've name it Eau de Disappointment, it's so painfully boring. The original Encre Noire (aka the men's version) is a masterpiece, unforgettable and certainly lives up to the hype (and to the name, black ink). Let's see Pour Elle's description:
"It was tailored after the edition for men" - You gotta be kidding me.
"A heart is dominated by Turkish rose, which is sweet and thick." - Just no. The rose is almost nonexistent.
"It is accompanied by Chinese osmanthus, which leaves honey and sweet, fruity aromas, along with Kephalis molecule of the house of Givaudan, which leaves opulent, warm, amber and tobacco-like aromas." - Yeah, sure. Columbo wouldn't find the honey or the tobacco-like aroma in this.

I used up a 2 ml sample, and all I can say that it's equally boring in any season. Shame on you, Lalique, shame on you.

Cyclamenia

The scent is rose dominated with undertones of woody amber musc. The musc gives it the sweet powdery dimension and the vetiver the woodiness level of the basenotes.
The scent lasts and lasts all day long. It's very good.
Citizen Queen by JHAG is definately its sister duet.

Walking Unicorn

This bottle may look similar to Encre Noir but the juice inside is a far cry from it. I get the smell of freesia with a light rose in the beginning but it is pretty muted. After the dry down the rose becomes more prominent and, while it is still fairly faint, it does remain on my skin for hours. As a fragrance it seems pretty linear and on the boring side so the other day I layered it with my Compagnia Delle Indie Africa Desert Tobacco which is also a light scent. This actually worked out nicely and added some depth to the ENPE. My perfume mix was light enough to be worn to the office without being overwhelming or offensive. I find ENPE to be a nice perfume for layering and for me it was a great Marshalls buy at $19.

alina_ze_tem

Is there some similarity between this one and Narciso Rodrigues for her? Quite similar notes

Megamind

Rose and freesia are my favourites and this perfume has all to please.
The opening is beautiful with a burst of freesia and bergamot. So pleasant creamy freesia lasting only several minutes.
Then the opening goes aside giving place to more flowery and at the same time duck woody notes. I think that the colour of the bottle is well associated with these woody notes.
Osmanthus and roses with the same intensity go upfront but this wonderful mixture is a little bit spoiled by this synthetic woody note. I detect it distinguishably during all perfume wearing. It should be kephalis. Oh if only there were less or no kephalis at all Encre Noir pour Elle would move to my "love" instead of "like" category and would become one of my favourite scents.
From time to time musk takes over kephalis and I enjoy a lot this bold musky creaminess of osmanthus and rose. But then kephalis comes back leaving me with this little bit synthetic and soap woodiness.
In overall it's a good mature flagrance in my "LIKE" category. But it has a potential to move to my "love" category.
I can wear it to work conferences and business meetings. Somehow it imposes the respect of a women wearing it. I agree with Henriette review as it's a kind of intellectual sophisticated perfume. Can become my work signature scent.

evacecilias

Thank you Lily2911 !!!
As a rose lover this bare stemmed -and a llittle harsh carnation like rose
was lacking my wardrobe.....
I am so glad to have it !
This nonsweet rose, soft and slightly powdery formula reminds me of makeup powder and develops beautifully on my skin!
But saying this is a pink and not red rose, isn't easy.
Lovely take on rose!

hippiechick13

This is a deeper version of Bvlgari Rose Essential. Lovely, a bit smokier, but essentially dries into the same smell.

Henriette

I am not one who loves floral scents and even less rose scents.
But Encre Noire pour Elle is special.
It does possess a class of its own and what I like about it is that the rose note is vey discreet and natural. I hate artificial rendering of natural smells and even more so when the result is artificial.
I ignore whether this scent employs absolute of roses or a chemical composition, but in my very personal and humble opinion the rose here is of a far better quality than in Joy.
Is this heresy?
I leave this to you.
Joy used to be a grand floral, but in recent years it has suffered from the IFRA ban.
If you want a grand floral, then Encre Noire pour Elle might be it.
The rose in the heading slowly melts into woods and musk, like a body slowly creeping in a soft dress.
It is beautiful, as sweet as a caress from your son, as delicate as a dew drop on a flower (a rose?), as assertive as a lighting in the dark.
For me this is the scent of a woman, a self-assured, much confident lady, maybe not too young, maturity having come from experience and most of all from beauty of the mind.
No frills, no fashion trends for her, she relies on her own style, which is exquisite albeit simple.
Yes, an intellectual perfume for sure, a scent for a lady writing with a classical fountain pen, preferring this to her smartphone.
Yes, that's why Encre - Ink.

Angela Agiannidou

When I bought EN pour Elle I didn't expect a female version of Encre Noire, it is far too ingenious to be repeated easily.
What I did expect and got it was the depth and balsamic, aromatic allure of Encre Noire. Pour Elle opens beautifully full of rose through a vibe of vetiver while the osmanthus and freesia are constantly present with a faint (to my nose) touch of musk. Interestingly it becomes stronger after a while and lingers for a very long time.
This is a very elegant juice and deeply aromatic.
Bluemarinejosep you were spot on with your combo! Not always layering works with different perfumes but in this instance it worked a treat!
Thumbs up Lalique for the lovely juice!

I get a clean perfumey fresh rose on the opening with the tangy vague fruitiness of osmanthus flower following, and then the powdery silkiness of ambrette and musk rounding up the finish. Encre Noire Pour Elle is proper, elegant and feminine without being bland. The osmanthus-rose combination with the powdery musk bulking it up, is positively seductive. I personally feel like I am too messy for this to be "my scent" but on an objective level, I just like to smell it! Osmanthus haters, beware! I could see the osmanthus going sour on those who do not respond well to it.

Encre Noire Pour Elle is so well balanced: floral and tangy with a silky powdery finish. So, so nice. A scent for a Lady. Capital L.
Longevity is good, projects at about arm's length and leaves a pretty trail.
Thanks to 2746cstreet for sending me a decant of this.

odelnyul

This perfume is way too sweet and powdery for me. The roses and the freesia are quite faint and dominated by what I assume to be the ambrette, and musk. I cannot smell the bergamot, the vetiver or the cedar either...

It's a nice perfume but, as I said, too powdery and also "nothing special": I wouldn't recognize it on someone else. It's really a shame, as I expected it to be a rosey-musky version of Encre Noire.

PastelMoon

I do not understand why people so often associate 'noir' with warmth, sexiness and complexity. It might as well be associated with coldness, emptiness, shallowness, it might be just a shade or accent.

Encre Noire Pour Elle is a bit bleak, kind of 'season blues', kind of 'postmodern', emphasized even more with a cubic bottle.

It is simple. Vegetal rose, rainwashed dirt mixed with sweet soap and some inorganic industrial matter.

And I like it.

This wakes in me associations with the 19th century rich people sophistication and lifestyle. A beautiful, romantic lady wearing lace and silk dress with embroideries and long earrings. I opened the box, and there was a little booklet inside with a short presentation of Lalique -"a cultural heritage, eternally precious", a personal letter for the happy owner of this perfume written with this expensive ink. A feminine, expensive, heavy, high quality glass ink-pot decorated with golden, beautifully arched words (name of the perfume.
Looking at the bottle I was expecting something darker, heavier, thicker and much more mysterious suitable for dark autumn and winter evenings/nights (like Narciso Rodriguez), but actually it's quite light (for me) sweet and inoffensive scent. This perfume is all about a color and scent changing, developing, opening rose. In the opening the rose is fresh, rosy, sweet, dewy. There's a hint of pepper, but very, very light. Then I can smell some sourness + powder, which makes the rose adult and light red. Then I start to get a light veil of musk and vetiver. This veil reinforces the scent of the rose ( and now it's sensually red). And the dry down - an elegant, mature (but NOT old), sensual deep red rose with tender petals. Overall a beautiful, feminine, classic and aristocratic perfume for a lady who wants something unique and rare. And yes- it has nothing to do with Encre Noire. They are 2 totally different perfumes.

Encre Noir Pour Elle is the first perfume that has compelled me to write a review on Fragrantica. After reading everyone else's thoughts, I began to think I was going insane since my experience with it today has been so drastically different...until I got to miZZpuRRfect's review. I swear I could have written her words! I smell no rose. No freesia. No powder and no honey. I barely smell anything at all. It's definitely a skin scent on me. One reviewer described it as smelling like Nivea. I've used Nivea for years and I adore the clean, soft scent, but unfortunately this is nothing like the lotion to me. As the perfume develops on my skin, I begin to smell cedar, vetiver, and a sharp, slightly mildewy note that may be the musk (which I normally adore.) Despite that description, it's not entirely unpleasant. Like miZZpuRRfect, I am judging from a sample vial of Encre Noir. Could that be why my experience has been rose-less?

EDITED TO ADD: I just put a few dabs of Kuumba Made Amber and Sandalwood oil on my wrists which warmed the scent up into something much more appealing. I'm looking forward to trying Encre Noir Pour Elle on another day to see if I can get any rose.

Bluemarinejosephine

I read the pyramid and it wowed me. I thought “this could be among my signature scents”.

On the paper, Encre Noire pour Elle has a full floral opening; the bergamot / freesia combination is very present. The florals from the heart notes – especially the osmanthus – continue the floral energy of the opening.

A new introduction to me was kaphalis. I was not familiar with this wood note which transforms (maybe combined with amber?) the floral notes into an earthy – powdery, neutrally woody, botanically soapy scent. It becomes almost sinister in a Victorian way.

On my skin, however, it opens up in a completely different way. I get honey and powder and underlying neutral wood. It’s a fairy botanic dark garden but wearable an inoffensive.

And then I had an epiphany! I layered it with the Encre Noire for men and Oh my God, what an explosion! One compliments the other is such a way as to produce a wonderful memorable outcome!

The smoky, moist and rooty vetiver from the Encre Noire kicks in and the scent begins to smell like wet earth and burning wood, the cypress note is smooth as silk and the “masculine” musk and cashmere mellow down in an interchange with the powdery, floral notes.

Longevity and projection are good too.

The result from the combination of the two is just brilliant. But, if you are looking for a usual mass people pleaser perfume then do not even bother with these two (let alone with their layering)… you will be disappointed.

As for me; I LOVE this thing and recommend it to anyone who would want to get out of the old adages of perfumery and smell something that is totally out of the box...

Enjoy the perfume hunt!

My father, a pastor, used to write every single sermon using thunderstorm blue ink from a small square bottle. Maybe for him there was a feeling of crafting and creating when he kept dipping the pen into the inkwell. An aura of mystique always surrounded the composition of the text, which he wrote in ornate, old fashioned handwriting. The moment I saw the bottle of Encre Noire Pour Elle, all these memories came back and when I sniffed the cap, it was all ink.

Ink has an austere, somewhat dry, smell to me. But when I actually sprayed my wrist with Encre Noire Pour Elle, all these associations disappeared. This was a soft and sweet rose scent: Goodbye Ink - Hello Nivea! Yes, this is the closest thing to Nivea I have ever encountered in a perfume. I love the smell of Nivea but I don't like the cream, so I immediately took this opportunity to get the good without the... less good.

I reach for Encre Noire Pour Elle at some point almost every day. To me, this is a comforting scent which does not change much over time. It stays close to the skin and on me it lasts only four or five hours. The good news is that it is not terribly expensive, so I indulge in spraying myself liberally and reapplying whenever the craving for more overwhelms me.

There is also an Encre Noire for men, which is very different: woody, smoky, no roses in sight - and definitely no spidery letters on the bottle. I adore this version as well, and discovered that the male and female Encre Noire complement each other in a good way, at least on me. To add some zest and mystique, try a spray of Encre Noire for men among the roses...

I'm not a rose lover, but let me clarify that I am also not a rose hater. I have a few rose scents and I'm generally mildly positive to neutral toward rose.
Much to my surprise, I really love Encre Noir Pour Elle. More than rose, I'm picking up on the kephalis. Combined with ambrette, it imparts a suede-like woody note. Beneath that, I do smell the rose, but it's more of a bruised, slightly fermented rose than a freshly cut one.

I love the smooth, satiny impression this fragrance has. It feels very natural and sensual.

lirael00

I thought this was gonna be more of a noir fragrance. I mean if you only look at the bottle, yes it definitely looks like there's some dark seductive magic potion hidden in there. Well, there's magic in that bottle for sure, but it's not dark at all. It's a light musky rose (may I add one of the best rose perfumes in my opinion), fragrance that makes you feel very feminine and classy. Firstly I thought it was too light for me (I've sprayed it only 2 times on my wrist), but if you want to go for more deeper sensual affect sprayed it 5+ times all over you body. A must in my collection.

leFemale72

The unique creation ...Mystery women with smile on her lips and big secret in her heart Very special perfume...So sensitive and deep, I think this scent has a soul and feelings ...Not for everybody to share with

kikiki

I can't be more than happy to have found this perfume. My signature scents has rose as the common note. To me Encre Noir Pour Elle is a delicate, classy and ultra feminine scent. I believe that it's subtlety is the real charm of this parfum. I love how it smells on my skin--fresh, warm and unpretentious.
I have been looking for this scent for so long, and gladly I decided to try this on at the parfumerie. Encre Noir Pour Elle is going to be one of my favorites.

spidola

Light, fresh floral….nothing dark, mystic, intriguing that I imagined considering the name.
It opens citrusy with composition of bergamot and freesia and rounds with a lot of creamy osmanthus, a hint of rose and the ambrette seeds, which I do not like at all here. On my skin I cannot detect any woody notes …
It’s not bad, I guess it doesn’t disturb anyone with its discreet presence. But...It’s like a perfume that has been choose just because the person did want to wear a perfume, but didn’t know what to choose... That's the point! It's just " A perfume"...I would not be able to distinguish it among many others. Obviously there is the possibility that it is only my non-expert-nose that is not able to notice the deeper nuances, who knows...

Anassa

i don t hate this fragrance but it reminds me of a Nivea deodorant spray.

DutchBalLover

I am no poet nor am I very good at smelling all the different notes. Please check out my profile to see what other stuff I like to determine if this could be for you, too,

I would say this is a very feminine, grown up woman type of scent, warm and alluring, sometimes seductive, but if sprayed with some restraint still suitable for the office. Creamy warm rose. Beautiful. All said and done, after years of searching and spending €€€ I have finally found my Holy Grail.

dalouchi

Very elegant fragrance. Screams with femininity and poise. With the first few sprays, it can be a bit sharp and medicinal. But it instantly turns into a rich dreamy bouquet of roses sealed in a creamy delicious aura!! After a few minutes of spraying this heavenly scent, I felt like I was in a dream, walking among the most beautiful rose garden, with warm sun rays kissing my cheek. I couldn't help but smile at the surreal feeling it has enveloped me with. Encre Noire Pour Elle is definitely a mature scent, with excellent sillage and logivity.. I love it <3

jengima

I bought this by accident. I read many good reviews about encre noire men. I thought it was encre noire for women, so I bought the decant. That's I was... very stupid. When I received the bottle and sniffed it.. ...Oh My.. I hated myself for never learned not to buy fragrance without tested it first. One more time, I got a horrible experience.

But.. a few days later I decided to give my encre noire a second chance. I wasn't sure, but I felt something interesting on this fragrance, very tender and friendly.

I thought I began to love it.

Chocolate90

Just yesterday I bought it and we will see
If its wow or not

zaynaz

I tried and reviewed the male Encre Noir, and was curious to try the female version. A fellow Fragrantican warned me that it bore no resemblance to it's woody brother, so I was warned...

There is no wood here.... It opens with a blast of rose water. I smelled the bottle of that I have and this was identical. It gets a tiny green note as it goes on, like the crushed stem of the rose you're smelling. I'm pretty sure I get jasmine here, but it's brief, drowned out by the overwhelming rose water. It gets a bit soapy during its wear It's granny-ish in that it reminds me of my own, individual Grandma, who loved roses, rose scented soap and potpourri. I feel this could be worn my anyone who likes watery roses- there's nothing sexy here, so even a kid could wear it.

What I don't understand about this excessively rosy, sweet scent is why it has been marketed as the feminine Encre Noir. This isn't the sister of Encre Noir; these fragrances aren't even from the same family. This isn't even a 'dark' floral. It lasts and projects well. I like the bottle, but why would anyone link the marketing of these two fragrances that have no commonalities? It is as if Lalique decided to make up for the lack of classically feminine notes in the original Encre Noir by making this almost a parody of feminine perfumes. I don't dislike it, but it's too feminine for me to wear often. It's a lovely scent, but it disappoints me, I found Encre Noir so unusual and assertive, and this is neither.

rumburakowa

Total disaster! When I smelt it at the store I thought nice, warm but not boring, fresh deep rose.
I bought it but in internet store - I got it and I cried. Cream nivea cream nivea, I dont even find rose.
Maybe my nose fooled me before or its fooling me now, but totaly disappoited

Naji

Now I know what that utterly synthetic blast is - kephelis! this fragrance make me feel as if I'm swimming in the darkest depths of the Mariana Trench where sightless creatures sway to the music of indigo silence. It fills me with dread, this perfume.
Where is the rose? Osmanthus? Vetiver? tons of ambrette though. Superb bottle and packaging, pedestrian concoction. I'm amazed at how none of the Lalique fragrances work. At least not for me.
The house of Lalique should do what it excels at - bringing crystal to life.

Aiant

After reading each and every one of your posts, I'll tell you my experience ... I saw the bottle and your name on it , and I thought of something strong , dark, powerful perfume , great personality , but wrong! Quite contrary to what I imagined. Yes , roses, roses and more roses, but after trying again and again before going to sleep , then wake up at various times of the year, without realizing it, I began to understand the magic of this gem.
The real beauty is in the simplicity of a scent , disguised as a simple , is just the opposite . Today we 're friends , and every time I use it I feel like a medieval princess , not glamorous at the time, but because I imagine that is as close to the luxury that can be had , considering the aromatic ingredients of those times . You understand what I mean? Well, the women went through many facets hormone in the month and every day is different , have this perfume in your collection is worth . Love to all !

KateAnette

This is a very "perfumey" rose. The top notes are a bit harsh and artificial. As it settles down on the skin, it starts to smell more like real, natural roses.
The Turkish rose isn't "sweet and thick" on my skin, like in the description. It's more of an ethereal rose, a bit fleeting.
The citruses, vetiver and cedar gives EN an overall impression of a fresh rose, no honey or sweetness at all. Luckily the musk gives it a bit of dirtiness. Not skank, but makes it earthy, i can almost smell the soil.
Not much sillage, longevity is pretty good/ average.
This is a somewhat generic perfume. Pretty, non- offensive and forgettable.
The bottle is one of the most elegant and beautiful perfume bottles I've seen.

EDIT
Spray more of this than you normally spray a fragrance. It makes Encre Noir less fleeting, deeper. I usually spray one spray on each wrist, and one on the neck. After spraying 3 sprays on the same wrist, it's a different experience. I like it.

maltatude

I love this. It can smell a bit strong and rosy when you first try it, but put it on some fabric and let it settle - walk away and come back to it. It's beautiful. I prefer this for evening wear in the winter, absolutely stunning.

mihaela01

Hmmmmm....very soft,I was actually anosmic to this scent. It never happened before.I could smell the first half hour then..nothing.

nikoleta1

Soft light floral , Ambre, without harsh notes of musk, longevity is ok, not sweet, good for hot summer days, not overwhelming and interesting. The best of laliques that I tried so far.

pisces3774

This is a very ordinary, floral sorta-oriental, non-descript perfume typical of the popular genre. There are no other prominent notes - other than a very wan and synthetic rose. This smells cheaply slapped together. I have not been this bored by a fragrance in a long time. Running to the bathroom to scrub it off now!

rottannie

I love this. I wish I had the experience to describe it. Its soft but not light. Darkish, but not heavy. It stays close, at least that I can tell. The girl I work with said I smelled really good at 10am, 2 hours after I put it on. I couldn't smell it on me. I went out to play in my garden at 2pm, and got seriously harassed by an amorous bumble bee. So id say longevity is beyond what you'd realize. Its lovely. One of my favorites.

Chocobaby

I was not expecting a full blown rose scent, although some reviewers did mention it's very rosy. It reminds me of YSL Paris, which I loved. It is a very pretty rose fragrance, I can detect a bit of musk as well. I was expecting something more mysterious and dark based on the beautiful bottle.

woodlandwalk

It's not inky, and it's not noir-ish, so if you expect the fragrance to reflect the title and bottle design you'll be disappointed.

This is a style of perfume I'm probably not fully equipped to describe, since it reminds me of very clean floral perfumes which I don't normally wear, such as Eternity or Allure. The clean feel is cold-soapy, possibly aldehydic, the rose is a clean tea rose, and I think there might be lily of the valley

If you like clean floral smells, you'll be happy. Luckily I just got a sample, and I've just scrubbed it off and changed my top.

Fair warning for people who might expect something different from the title and bottle design, also from the described notes you wouldn't necessarily assume it would be so very very blinding white and clean!

Later edit, looks like all three perfumes mentioned here contain freesia, I'm guessing this partially gives the harsh clean floral note I don't enjoy

weegee

If you already own Jesus del Pozo Black you'll find Encre Noire Pour Elle simply redundant. Both feature delicious dark cherries and a seductive dusty rose but at 1/2 the price, JdPB is the better buy especially since it lasts twice as long on (my) skin.

Jenny_Was_Here

Some find it perfectly fresh and clean, some find it rich, warm and seductive. My impression: "Encre Noire Pour elle" is something in between. It´s rosy fabric softener, but not the green floral or fresh spicy kind. More like a dark and sweet rosy fabric softener.

Dragon St Charles

I've been on a Lalique bender lately so I had to order this. Not one of my more successful blind buys. I mostly smell rose. I like rose, but I already have rose scents that I like better, and if you are into rose scents, then you probably do too. Nothing to write home about imo. Beautiful bottle though.

Massacura6

I agree with KLOPGOVORUN .
Long lasting as well.

Nomorestars

A blindingly white, clean fragrance. This actually reminds me more of ink than the original Encre Noire. Not the luxurious kind of pen ink that the bottle suggests but of inkjet printers and dry, pristine white cartridge paper and a room that is over-airconditioned. Add some rose and musk and you've got the perfect ice queen work scent.

Mooniq

Lovely, Rose, Musk and Ambrette. Very feminine, very woman'ish, very fresh, sensual and elegant. Perfect!

Underbar, Ros, Musk och Ambrette. Otroligt feminin, väldigt kvinnlig. Superfräsch, sensuell och elegant. Perfekt!

franksgirl

On my skin it reminds me of nivea fragrance. I like it in winter-as it is clean, warm and comforting reminds me of a cozy fresh blanket.

lulu7898

At first sniff (sample), I got sun tan lotion?? After a couple on minutes I was transported to dark forest--vetiver. Not a flowerbomb...very nice. It stays dusky and then the rose and a bit of musk develops--Bingo! That is my cue to order a bottle. Now at 4 hours later, a lovely velvety musk.

Ouch!

On paper...this sounds amazing. It sounds like something that would be very interesting to smell. All the tobacco and woodsyness.

I do a love a good rose fragrance but this one isn't doing it for me. I need something a bit more interesting.

It starts out as straight up rose. Rose rose rose...the thing I will say about the ROSE though is that it's very real. Almost smells like crushed petals, slightly dewy but nevertheless...ROSE!

As it dries and the heart notes emerge (which happens very quickly) I am getting the slightest tinge of how it is described, there is a teensy herbalness coming through and the other florals are making an appearance.

Unfortunately the experience ends there...it starts to fade quite quickly into nothingness and within half an hour? gone!

Rose is such a flexible, mouldable note and when blended with the correct things can be turned into something truly magical! With this? I'm afraid it falls flat on its face. :(

I would never purchase this fragrance as it's underwhelming, non transitional, expensive and as weak as rose water.

an.jorePipip

it has nothing to do with the male version, very powdery...I layered it with Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel, and the result is amazing!

loobyloo

just bought this after thinking it would be like my beloved narcisso rodrigez, but all this smells like is old ladies at a tea dance!!!!! it smells cheap!
mot at all deep and dark and musky like i normally like.
I do like floral perfume like marc jacobs daisy and elie saab, but this is beyond floral!!! it is like the rose water i used to make as a kid!!
no impact, nothing but roses!!!! too much, and heavily disappointed as i bought this blind!!

tommy_girl

if you ignore the distinct dark bottle, the name and the male's version, you may find it a mature rose scent.but it's not it was supposed to be!after loving the male's fragrance I had higher hopes for the female's pair.I used to imagine it as an earthy perfume with lots of vetiver which is for strong women, but all I find here is Rose,Rose and Rose!
I think it's suitable for a woman in her 40s.it's not annoying, but doesn't smell incredible either!it's a good choice for rose lovers.it reminds me of Idylle by Guerlain, but I prefer the latter one,as it's more flattering.
not bad,but doesn't match it's pair.

scentous

Looove it..Rose is not dominating, supressed by the musky note and turns into a silky powdery creamy rose with earthiness..Not masculine at all, very feminine on the contrary, but has a dark smoky side as well..great sillage and longevity..definitely a keeper:))

Elenkina

I believe some people find this fragrance very attractive, however I bought it long time impulsively and didn't really like it that much. So gave it to my mom, and she really appreciate this elegant fragrance.

Roma27

I was curious about Pour Elle so I initially just tried it because I'm so in love with the mens version which I occasionally wear. To me it is the flip side to it's male counterpart. It's so light & ethereal but in a warm & sensual way, like it's not even there but then "bang" you get the full effect. It's dramatic without being heavy. I've had men & women coming up close just to take a sniff "What's that you wearing??" It's definitely soft & subtle but what I love the most is it's musky woody dry down. Oh yes the bottle is most certainly A Black Beauty!

Fizzy

Hmmm, delicious sweet rosy fruity amber scent, a popular fragrance in a beautiful bottle.
Similar to Love in Paris by Nina Ricci or YSL Parisienne. To judge a fragrance properly, I have to compare it with something similar. In comparison with NR Love in Paris seems to be this Lalique very beautiful too but in all a boring floral fragrance without exciting. The staying power is poor on me, silage weak and there is not this special cheerful a joyful punch of something you would like to sniff again and again like by NR Love in Paris.
This Lalique is more similar with YSL Parisienne.
But one in all - a beautiful fragrance, you can make nothing wrong with it, that is for sure and the bottle is one of the best part on it. Would I buy it? YES.
Thank you dear Kosmoskukka for your generous sample!

emily7

I am visualising this fragrance as a blue rose. Beautiful, yet cold and deprived of any joy.

In my mind there isn't any doubt - this is one mighty rose. Still, the problem lies in me; I don't like this type of dark minimalism with a rose in a center. On the contrary - I expect rose to be a symbol of passionate love, but in this case all I'm getting is a love letter telling me to "hold on".

Oh no, I cannot wait for rose love!
Monsieur Robert Piguet is waiting for me in Calypso...

atiet97

Hmmm, nothing like I imagine. Before sampling, judged from the bold dark bottle with beautiful engraved letters, I pictured a heavy quality night fragrance, rich, opulent and seducing.....something close to Loewe Gala.

And then I sprayed...Bleh, this smells like a commonly used detergent. Well, you know the rest of the story, erased from my wish list. LOL.

Beautiful flacon, though!!

meg1969

A forest nymph dancing in a bed of velvet roses. The vetiver keeps the roses fresh and youthful, not "old" or powdery. Cedar in the base base perfectly compliments the powerful rose note at the top. The vetiver makes this feel chillier, darker, sexier (some say gothic) frag than most Rose scents, such as Bulgari Rose Essentielle, (which is warmer, and more innocent feeling) but still ethereal. Great romantic scent for a spring evening! Sillage and holding power are phenomenal. Not an everyday scent for me, but great for days when I feel like wearing all black or something with a more romanticized, Victorian feeling to it.

mimi.smell

Quite an unusual scent... sensual and mistycal, watery floral (most of them roses)...and that freshness...I don't know what exactly gives so mistycal fresh impression, but that should be the mixture of freesia, vetiver and kephalis - as I read kephalis gives warm, and rich aromas of amber and tobacco. All in all a special and unusual, but very pleasant daily perfume.

Looking at the strict black bottle with sharp lines someone could think Encre Noir is a heavy serious scent.
But there is some contradiction between black bottle with sharp lines that gives impression of some dark evening scent and the scent itself, which has actually watery -rosy notes and works a bit more fresh than dark. And I think that's the reason of disappointment of most of you who bought Encre Noir without testing.

I've bought it on the base of your reviews guys and I'm glad I did. I like it very much!!
Not to ignore the sillage and longevity - both are good.

tessture

Started out on me with a strongly synthetic note more like artificial peony scent than anything else. Lilies came in shortly, smelling very pretty, drying with the other floral to a bright pink peony and pale white lily scent. None of the base notes showed up for me, leaving me with a very simple, linear daytime floral fragrance. There's nothing bad about it, but it's not my type of thing. I prefer more complex florals in my scent and this is very simple and basic.

polinkasuperova

i have made a big mistake by purchasing two frags on line before smelling them they were the Agent Provocatuer, and the matrisse i was so dissapointed that they smell like balls i decided to make myself feel better and i purchased this frag... at first its strong but as it settled it became soft powdery lovely and very femme i love it and i like the fact that is not very popular it makes it more special ....

nightjasmine

For the record, I'm a man that loves this fragrance. The tension between the top notes of freesia and bergamot to the rose and musk is incredible. Its like watching groups of clouds, some moving slowly and some quickly. and I do agree with other reviews, some days I find the scent very light, while other times appears to be a more heady musk scent. ... And the reason I prefer the woman's version is because the mens Encre is too woody and has none of the excitement. For those who have been turned off to this scent when testing, give it another try on a different day!

I.I

I was very much stroken by the similarity with Tumulte, which i have and very much love.
This one is 'fresher' and a bit lighter, Tumulte has a 'depressing' edge and is much deeper. I don't find it dusty at all but then again, it may be a matter of skin chemistry. To me it is rather bright.

I complitely loved it! To me at least, it is very similar to Tumulte but I will buy it sometime.
Very ladylike, 'full' perfume, elegant and quite mature and sophisticated.
I think it's not for a woman under 25/30 but it's a modern perfume.

irishagold

I got Encre Noir for my husband and this one for myself. As much as I like his cologne, as much I hate the feminine Encre Noir pour Elle. I was glad when the smell was gone. Very disappointed. Too sweet, soapy, and old-lady-like... The bottle and design do not match the fragrance.
I truly wanted to like it. Alas.
So, this one goes to my mom.
She is not too picky.

Les parfumes de l'orient

I have a strange love-hate relationship with Encre Noire. One day I find it very overpowering, musky and masculine. The other day its uniqueness amazes me. It is quite unexpected for a woman's perfume so it will certainly distinguish you from the rest. It can be a nice addition to your collection for those days when you want to smell a bit out-of-ordinary.

id

I can barely smell it. The second try the same result. It is very strange but the scent is definitely not for me.

olga1780

The more I wear it the more I love this gothic cold beauty fragrance. Very long lasting and goes great with black clothes.
The drydown is where the perfume gets sweeter and is really beautiful.

If I were to give Encre Noire pour Elle a Sanchez/Turin-style two-word fly-by, it would be boozy detergent. Despite the apt but snipey sounding description, there are aspects of ENpE that I appreciate and like. Categorically it’s a musky, woody floral---an enormous field. In spite of the common pedigree, though, it’s clever. The various floral elements (rose, osmanthus, freesia) come together to strike one metallic note. The wood is cedar, and I suppose is a nod to the cedar-like vetiver of the original Encre Noire, but I don’t in fact smell vetiver. The musk sews it up. This is not a luscious, round, fruity or animalic musk. Not soft, not cuddly. It is glaringly bright, a bit harsh and utterly desiccates the florals. The dewy, fruity aspects of rose and osmanthus, and the delicate sweetness of freesia are obliterated by the musk. When magnified by the musk, the flowers become a floral eau de vie, giving that double-distilled, blanched feel.

A few points. 1) Unlike the original, ENpE does smell like ink. 2) Noire? This is so bright I see spots. 3) To make the first in a line a masculine but without a gender descriptor in the title is fine. Then to use the name of the original, adding “pour Elle” the same way one would add “light,” “fraiche,” or “sport" makes it a flanker. My issue, though, is that by extension, a woman is presented as a flanker to the universal-since-unnamed man. This boy/girl thing is only interesting if there is a twist---imagine the Rochas flanker Femme pour Lui.

I am in love with this right now. It was not love at first sniff. Then 10 minutes it got better and hours after that I could not stop inhaling my arm. With each sniff, the more I grew to love it. It starts very voilette and powder (in my opinion) and turns to a semi-sweet, warm, slightly honey-dew mixed in with freesia laying over over top of white rose petals. I am not doing a great job on the review here but I can tell you it's a beauty and it lasts for 8-10 hours in a nice strength as well. It is complex, and changes often. The quality is high and the subtle, yet intoxicating. The smell will capture the people who know and appreciate a beautifully made perfume. I have learned over the last couple of years that you can never make a decision on a perfume by the first spray. It requires thinking, appreciation and time. So glad to have it!

Wow, this stuff is really tricky and creeps up on you unexpectedly.
When I got it, i just spayed it on my hand for authenticity purposes, well after 2-3 different perfumes ( big mistake), and for the life of me I couldn't smell a thing. I gave it another spray ....still nothing. So I put it back in the box it came from and was ready to tell the seller I was returing it. The tester looked 110% authentic,so this nothingness really bothered me. What I did was I washed everything off and put it on like I usually put on a perfume: 4-5 sprays. 5-10 minutes later...wow, that was gorgeous. Yes,after all I would call it mysterious, but not in a gothic way. This scent is actually powerful and envelops you like a veil, but at the same time very airy and elusive and doesn't project like a majority of potent perfumes, because when you sniff your wrist, you can't smell anything in particular. Very beautiful dark rose, a bit soapy and powdery. Last for hours and hours without losing much of sillage.
If you want to truly experience its mystery, put it on, and don't try to spray your wrist and sniff it....because all you will get is weak watery scent.

It reminds me a lot of Rose Noire, but I can actually breath and enjoy Encre Noire wiout being smothered by chemicals.

olga1780

I will write more extensively later, but for now I must admit i was one of the people who were thrown off by it's subtleness while expecting something dark, mysterious and smokey.....but I am not disappointed.

I read a few quite critical reviews from dissappointed parfume bloggers before buying this gem. They all said the same; that this perfume had nothing to do with its predecessor: Encre Noir, or with its name: "Encre Noir Pour Elle, as they found it too bright to be related to black ink. Superb blogger Grain de Musc even renamed it to "Pastel Rose" in her blog. Perhaps ironically, as the ENPE gem does have some darker facets eventhough it's not a throughout dark fragrance.

What I think was most enrageing, was the fact that when Christine Nagel got free hands to create "EN for her" she did not create the feminine version of the dark smoky EN everyone expected her to do. Instead she created a completely different fragrance. The whole thing seem to have turned into a matter of equality; like someone would have said: "Women can't drive motorbikes, let's make them a three wheel bicycle instead. And make it pink... but we'll call it a motorbike for women!". I can understand the rage as I'm an equality supporter with a motorbike driving licence (and I used to own an old BMW 750cc). And maybe this fragrance should have got a different name therefore, just to be fully appreciated for what it is.

I bought ENPE without having borrowed orginal Encre Noir from any boyfriend or even smelt it. I was completely unbiased. And when I got my 100 ml bottle I found out that I really liked Encre Noir Pour Elle in spite of (or perhaps with help of?) the reviews I just read. Just because I didn't expect it to be dark, tarry and smoky. After a few days I started to love it and since then my hand has been reaching for that big squared bottle so many times that I actually have made it my signature, which is a big and surprising thing for me.

Encre Noir Pour Elle is a woody rose fragrance with enhanced sweetness from intoxicating osmanthus and plumpness from tobacco. All resting on clean musky undertones. I'm not really a rose lover but now I'm starting to become one. I'm not really a musc lover either, but now I'm truly starting to become that as well. For my nose ENPE could have been bolder with greater projection and longevity, but I spray it on my clothes too and enjoy what I can. I also try to apply less when I use other, bolder fragrances, to make my nose even more sensitive for Encre Noir Pour Elle. If that isn't love then I don't know what love is.

domenicamartinello

On me, this is a gorgeous smoky, powdery rose. Strong, but still supremely feminine. The tobacco notes make this a little naughty, like a mysteriously sexy woman from a film noire or an old school pin up. Great staying power and sillage, and the beautiful flacon is a plus for any boudoir

When I first sprayed it on, I got a headache though. I felt so dismayed, but then I realized it could be because I was already wearing a fragrance. That night after my shower I sprayed Encre Noir on my neck and went to bed... I felt quite soft and beautiful and could not stop smelling myself as I drifted into a lovely sleep. Even better: I woke up in the morning smelling even nicer, and the fragrance lasting all through the night.

This is an absolute chiaroscuro masterpiece of scent. It brings to mind the whole of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, or Rembrandt’s1667 painting “The Jewish Bride,” or Gerrit van Honthorst’s 1625 painting “The Matchmaker,” as it blooms on my skin. On my skin, it is a magnificently balanced, opulent renaissance symphony in rose. The brilliant liquid gold citrus lights of bergamot, ambrette, and freesia swirl smoothly onto a lavish heart of an incredibly beautiful rose. A touch of spicy osmanthus, kephalis, and heliotrope continue to smoothly shade this deeply rich colored composition, blending the contrasting light and shadow into a seamless masterpiece, finally descending into a mysterious, tenderly subtle darkness of cedar, vetiver, and musk. It’s fascinating to note that the top of the chiaro effect is perfectly illustrated by the elegantly fanciful gold decorative script used to label the bottle as contrasted with the base scuro effect of the simple, spare blackness of the bottle. Many have been obsessed and commenting on the blackness of the glass bottle, criticizing that the juice inside as being not dark enough. Well I say it’s dark enough. Frankly it’s an example of shadowy dark perfection in a bottle. Not too dark. Not wallowing blindly in a vulgar miasma of overdone patchouli, excessive spices, woods, or animalic substances. On my skin this translates as inky black, velvet shadows with a few slender threads of golden light swirling throughout. Ultrafeminine, deeply rosey, woody, and rich with an elegant shot of musk. No overdone sickening sweetness. No overdone masculinity in the woodiness. Just a perfectly balanced contrast between darkness and light. Beautifully balanced for me. I have to admit, my skin picks up base notes, amplifies them, and tends to overwhelm with them. The base notes that give this scent it’s “shadow” are very prominent with my chemistry. I feel lucky…. And I love this one. If your skin is like mine, and cannot stand tuberose, gardenia, jasmine, too much patchouli, or too much fruity sweetness, this may work wonderfully for you. This is a deeply subtle and luxuriously complex scent. She never screams, there is no need. She smiles gently, caresses, then speaks softly, staying close to the skin. Although it is a dangerous smile...sometimes. It brings to mind the sober, iron hand of a bejeweled, voluptuous Medici queen swathed in a crimson velvet glove. Truly, a masterpiece. Gloria in excelsis Christine Nagel. Bravo Lalique.

The story behind this perfume is a pure coincidence, exactly when I was thinking of buying it blind, my mother informed me that she had just bought a new brilliant dark flacon. We didn't know we were actually hunting for the same fragrance!
Encre Noire is certainly a classy perfume, it's very much in the style of Narciso Rodriguez and I'm surprised to see that almost no one mentioned that. They both contain vetiver, rose, musk, osmanthus, ambrette. Encre Noire longevity is extremely better, it lasts all day like all Lalique perfumes and I'm starting to appreciate this French house more and more. It's a gentle explosion of sharp vetiver and white flowers, elegant and persistent, very sensual but still quite easy to wear even for me.
The bottle is stunning and deserves a special place in a collector's wardrobe.
My opinion is very positive, highly recommended.

Tigerlillian

The power of fragrance never ceases to amaze me--today when I tried Encre Noire I was taken back 20 years when my teen girlfriends and I would try every possible fragrance from the glass daubers from the Body Shop's sampling table.

That day, my friend bought BS White Musk perfume oil, and I find that Encre Noire is very reminiscent of this scent.

And a shame it is too because Lalique really missed the target marketing this beauty of a fragrance. Like many other reviewers, I was hoping for something dark and sultry; sober and sexy.

That said however, this is a beautifully executed fragrance, with freesia in full bloom and velvety nuances of osmanthus and musk, and clean notes from cedar and vetiver--very 'white' in my opinion, nothing 'noire' about it.

BUT, seeing as white musk fragrances aren't my thing, I have to admit that I'm disappointed. This gorgeous fragrance really needs to be rebottled in an opulent white and gold flacon, and maybe with a white fur collar around it! Too bad a lot of people who like this type of fragrance are missing out if the preconcieved idea of what's inside is being shelved for the outer appearance and name.

WyldaWilson

This perfume is absolutely divine and unique....when its in the bottle. Im so sad to say when its on my skin its rose turns sharp and slightly sour - thus staving off any hope of any of the gorgeous ingredients listed above beginning to balance the rose. I may buy another one just for the bottle though!

gonulciftci

Wonderful Scent. I love this one. The sillage is not perfect but it is really a nice one.It smells sophisticated and noble.

blueberry

I tested it and my answer is: NO! I am so glad I did not buy it blindly.
This is not going to be my fragrance as it is a mixture of sweet everything and the woody notes do not help here, or I don't notice them at all. Too sweet, too messy, too cloying, too synthetic. I only hope the men's version is as good as most reviewers claim because I adore vetiver which I couldn't even detect in the women's EN.

arash121

that,s fantastic , very erotic use in midenight

Red Rose

If velvet has a scent, it would smell like this fragrance. This is velvety creamy & just gorgeous. I'm not familiar with the male version of this scent too, but the female version is very femenin, luxurious & pure delight. It's a pleasure to have.

Manya3

I am not familiar with the male version, but my opinion on this one can only be voiced in sighs and sounds of euphoric delight, such as "MPHHHRRRAAAOO".

I am seriously in love, and this new experience has completely deleted, eclipsed every other rose I have previously sniffed, real roses included.

This perfume could be described as romantic, but not in a tame, Jane Austen way, it's more gothic. This is Bronte all the way, Wuthering Heights, misty lowlands and hushed passions.

I need it. NOW.

(On a more objective note, I think this perfume will please lovers of softly spicy, soapy roses such as "Flower" by Kenzo.)

Bratka

no!
no?
NO!
Never again!
Big dissapointment, well, I think i just dont like woody notes in fragrances. No at all.
And one little - yes. It is not long lasting on me :-)

miZZpuRRfect

i tested today a vial spray 'encre noir pour elle' i got from my local perfumestore.
while the male version is warm sensual sexy, woody, earthy, musky, with a 'inky' edge, a great sillage and fantastic staying power, i was expecting something similar for the female version.

btw the notes of it sound very good but i m disapointed at all. it's very weak, almost a skin scent to put the nose in it to be able to catch a wiff, dries down very fast, you can t enjoy a growth on your skin, detectable is almost the cedar/vetivier, i can t detect any rose or any other flower accord :( and the kephalis which should work as a warmthening ambery base, does not work on me, to me it's like cold smoke and very old papers smell. nothing feminine or desireable as the male version.

my husband - though - he thinks it's an erotic scent because it smells like dirty pantyhose mingeld with the scent of the woman who wore them, when he gets very close to my neck, where i actually wear 'encre noir pour elle'. hah! 0.0 men are somethimes weirdos ! :D maybe this could work as a secret weapon, kinda pheromone-scent???? i don t know! .lol.

the nose behind, Christine Nagel, i do consider as a genious but i think in this case she was reaching too mutch for the topic 'encre noir' than for the topic 'pour elle'.
i think it would have been better, the creator of the male version had done the female version too, as he has to have understood the spirit of 'encre noir' perfume best, to create the matching sister! i don t dislike this perfume, but it's not a real perfume for me as i understand one had to be, staying power could be better too...... i wouldn t buy it!

add note: if you are intrigued by the topic of encre noir better try thiws one: "Noir d'Encre" by Galérie Noémi niche perfumery.... it's awesome ! not listed here on fragrantica, and they have even more very nice fumes which would be worthy to list here in database. :)

I was so excited to try this, I don't know why, but I liked the bottle and the name..... and the man's version is pretty likeable for my taste.
When I first tried it - huge disappointment imbued me.

Then came the second chance.
Well, I will never ever buy a whole bottle, but it is not a bad scent.
I share Sherapop's judgment. It is rather a light woody frag, than a floral one. I can make out osmanthus (that is well-known for me from Hanae, Keiko Mecheri), and somehow the drydown reminds me of Infusion d'Iris (???), but it is a feminine woody scent. Nice, cosy, but nothing special.

sherapop

Lalique ENCRE NOIRE POUR ELLE is not what I would have guessed and was perhaps expecting from the name. I suppose that "black ink" evoked the prospect of incense and dark smokiness to my mind.

Instead, ENCRE NOIRE strikes me as a relatively light and inoffensive woody oriental fragrance. I find this composition neither floral nor musky, and being unable to identify any of the notes, I was a bit relieved to learn that a key player, kephalis, is a synthetic molecule that I could never have recognized, since I have probably never encountered it before!

Although it is pleasant enough, I don't find ENCRE NOIRE to be very distinctive or compelling. It just seems like a generic light oriental woody fragrance to my nose.

lindamelton

Encre Noir Pour Elle is a beautiful soft floral - I realy love this perfume. It is never intrusive, but still long-lasting. This is going to be one of my favorites!

Amarilia

Lalique really surprised me with its newest creation Encre Noir pour Elle!

Iam very glad I gave it a try. This is really something I've been seaching for a long time : modern, fresh, unique and feminine scent . I don't find it masculine at all, just PERFECT fresh woody-floral .Very long lasting too.
The bottle looks very mystical and I was expecting a heavy, or masculine scent, but the initial spray proved I was very wrong.
My colleague even commented that it smelled very aristocratic LOL
UPDATE: Im so suprised this is so underrated!!!
I've added Encre Noire to my all-time favourites! I think it will stay that way for many years.
I get bored very easily, and need much variety to pick up the right fragrance for each day , Encre Noir is one of those Im reaching for most often. It fits in every occasion and weather! Fantastic creation, I love it!!!

sky76sky

I was expecting an exciting, deep, dark beauty that matched the vetiver delights of the male version.

What I found was a delicate, charming pale, sweet turkish rose scent. Nothing special (I'd turn to Narciso Rodriguez for a more classic scent in this vein) but wearable none-the-less.

It leaves me asking where did all the vetiver go? My velvety dark queen was nowhere to be seen. Disappointment.

vertigo

Laliqe, I'm so disappointed!

I've never enjoyed their fragrances for women. There has always been too much of something. But I love all their men's perfumes, with Encre Noire on the first place. So I hoped I'll love this one also.

Error!
I don't get any vetiver, any musk, any woodsy notes. The scent is a repelling mix of sweet synthetic flowers. I can't tell one from the other. So soapy!

I hope it's just my skin chemistry. I'm hardly ever repelled by a perfume.

savovu

Yesterday I have tried it in Galleries Lafayette in Paris, and yes it is realy a nice parfume, different, tailored on the male notes, but a bit too gentile, femminine, sweet. And yes you cna feel the vetyver note since teh begginig, subtile in dry-down. I would bought it only for the bottle. Sorry, my english is not so good to describe a prfume, but I enjoyed it.
