Sorting Animals Work

Our toob works are some of E(3)'s favorites!
She really enjoyed this science work in which she sorted the figures according to whether they were birds, reptiles, mammals, amphibians, or fish.  O(6) and I had fun helping her complete this work.  (We used the labels from the animal sorting work from Montessori Print Shop.)

Musical Instruments Work

The girls received several sets of toob figures from their grandparents for Christmas, and they love them!  I'm excited about the figures because it is fun to incorporate them into our schoolwork.

Both girls had fun identifying the musical instruments while E(3) matched the instruments to the pictures in the book.

Our copy of Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin is from a Cheerios box, but you can also find it on Amazon (see link below).

Christmas Bow Transfer Work

Both girls have had fun with this Christmas bow transfer work that I put on their Montessori shelves this week.

The girls pick the bows up one at a time using tweezers and transfer them to the egg carton.

Fun times!

Counting Candy Corn

Our girls had such a fun time working together on this counting candy corn activity.  This activity is a little too easy for O(6) and a little too difficult for E(3), which made it PERFECT for them to do together!

O showed E how to put our homemade sandpaper numbers in order, and then we all counted out the appropriate number of candy corn to put below each number.

Simple, fun, educational, and yummy!

Halloween Eyeball Work

Here is another one of our Halloween "works" that is on our Montessori school shelves.  E(3) puts an eyeball in each opening on the container.  She used chopsticks the first time, but they were not ideal for this activity.

I found the plastic eyeballs at the Dollar Tree and the container at our local thrift store.

Pumpkin Polishing

Pumpkin polishing is E(3)'s current favorite work on her Montessori school shelves.  She loves to "fray" (spray) the pumpkin with water and then wipe it with a cloth.

In this picture, she's wearing a Nicaraguan outfit that our friend just gave her...she LOVES it and wears it everyday while pretending to be a Nicaraguan Queen...love it!  (she's also wearing my reading Olympics medal from 3rd grade :)

E decided that one pumpkin to polish was not enough, so she asked to polish the fake pumpkin, too.  Fun times!

Our First Halloween Work

This simple and fun Halloween work has been on our shelves for a few weeks, and E(3) has really had fun with it.

I bought the jack o'lantern cup from The Dollar General.  E puts the toothpicks into the straw one at a time.
This work teaches concentration and attention to detail, and it is good practice for developing her fine motor skills.

She preferred to pick up a bunch of the toothpicks at one time, so I prompted her to pick up just one at a time.  She's looking into the straw to see the toothpicks.  This was a fun and simple work...the best kind!

Water Transfer Contest

On our first day of homeschooling, I went to the laundry room to put a load of clothes in the wash and when I came back upstairs, the girls were having a contest...they were using several different kinds of droppers to see which one was the best/fastest at transferring water.  What fun!

Polishing Silver

E(2) spent a long time (maybe 15 to 20 minutes) polishing a silver cup when we were at O's school for her last day.  She loved every minute of it!  Since O(5) also loves the polishing works, I'm planning to have several of this type of activity set up in our new school room.

To polish the silver cup, E(2) dipped a q-tip in toothpaste and rubbed the toothpaste all over the cup.  She then wiped it all off with a small washcloth.  Fun and simple!

Water Transfer with a Baster

E(2) and I spent O's last day of school with her (I am the class photographer, and I'm making the school yearbook, so I wanted to get pics of graduation practice and last day activities).  I didn't actually intend for E(2) to do "work" like the other students, but she jumped right in, and since it was fine with O's teacher, it was fine with me.  E thoroughly enjoyed herself, and she showed me several works that she wants to have on her homeschool shelves.  She particularly likes any "work" involving water.

She enjoyed transferring the water from one bowl to the other using a baster.  This is an easy and fun work that I'll definitely be putting on the Montessori shelf in our new school room!

A Fun Transferring Activity

I revamped our frog and insect transferring activity by adding in a set of chopsticks and putting it on a new tray.  E(2) was EXCITED when I offered it to her this morning!

She loved feeding the insects to the frog, and she did a great job.

I love that we can do "school" activities on our deck.  We almost never used our deck until we FINALLY (after several years of thinking about it) bought furniture for it about a month or so ago.  Now, we eat all of our meals out there, paint out there, the girls dance and put on recitals, and the girls have started playing in their formally neglected deck playhouse almost everyday.  Good times!

An Edible Moveable Alphabet

The girls and I were really excited to see these Scrabble Cheez-its at the grocery store a few weeks ago!
E(2) said the name or sound of the letter, and O(5) made simple words with the letters. Fun and simple!
